Wow 😚

By Andy |

Delicious fresh pizza, excellent staff and great service in a chilled, relaxed environment. Loved every second of my experience here, after hearing so many good things. Highly recommend the Salsiccia pizza - Italian sausage and basil.

Delicious pizza

By Anant K |

The pizza served here is superb and really delicious too fantastic taste and I love pizza here very much it is good

Pizza is still excellent

By jeanwilsonny |

Glad to see the pizza is still excellent. Tried the Salcissia in addition to the Daviolo. The sausage on the Salcissia was seasoned with fresh fennel and black pepper. We regretted not doubling our order.

Excellent!

By Hannibal G |

We are a family of 4 that were super lucky to stumble on this gem in the heart of Harlem on the last night of our 5 day tour to New York. The food was excellent and the service super. The atmosphere is super cozy and relaxed. We would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for an authentic Italian food.

Decent, but far from the best

By DA2311 |

My wife and I had dinner here. Not sure what the hype is about. Pizza was very soggy, toppings and cheese were sliding off when you picked it up. Flavor was good, but I don’t like soggy pizza. I wouldn’t go back.

Italian pizza

By aledolly |

Really good italian pizza! Tasty, crispy and yummy! The owner is italian. The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is clean and cozy!

Great Pizza

By Jacopo D |

I'm Italian and I can tell you for sure that these guys know hot to make REAL italian pizza, with real fresh original ingredients that taste exactly as in Italy.Great setting very clean and fascinating and owners and waiters are very friendly. There is only one thing which could be improved: desserts are very tasty, specially the tiramisu' but they are too expensive.

Best place to eat

By aliihsanozten |

The best pizza l have been eating in the city. I have recommended everyone to test this pizza. Specially vegetable pizza is the delicious one.

Great pizza

By Susan L |

We visited here from UK, found the place from searching on trip advisor. A little out of the way from where we were staying and an area we were not too sure about (didn’t feel all that safe walking around) - but the ambiance, food, service and wine in the restaurant were fab. We had a starter to share and a pizza to share between 2, just about right for us. And a bottle of Malbec. Loved it and recommend it.

The BEST Pizzas EVER

By AshgoodC |

Stayed on my own for a few weeks locally so ate in here a few times at the bar - the best ever.... Pizza, Chianti and the deserts all great - great staff and atmosphere !!!

Desserts!!

By Eos V |

Loved the pizza and they have the best italian desserts I’ve tried in America. I recommend trying their Tartufo!!

A must try

By KirstenAK |

This is the best place to go for pizza! I feel like I’m in Italy when I walk into Sottocasa. love the smoked mozzarella cheese, and if you come on the weekend you can get the Burrata, it’s amazing!

Real Italian Pizza

By Anthony M |

Great pizzas, wine choices, beers on tap, romantic ambiance, and fair prices. Coming to NYC we did a lot of research for the best pizza; this is the third and best spot—great traditional Italian pizza.

Perfect pizza

By ShannonDuncan |

I have to agree with the majority of the reviews about SottoCasa, the pizza is delicious. My husband said it's the best pizza he's ever had and I would say it's definitely one of the best I've had too! The restaurant is cosy, with a good atmosphere. Great value for money, we ordered 2 pizzas and 2 drinks which came to just over $45. I would definitely recommend and revisit when we are back in New York.

Great food and service

By dvh |

We had dinner this week: 4 different pizza’s and all were great. Service and prizes are very good as well. Desserts good but no wow here.

Cool vibe, great pizza!

By jlsjr |

This place has a great feel and great pizza. It is located on the sub-street level of a brownstone on Lenox, so kind of easy to miss if you aren't careful. Get the salsiccia (italian sausage) if you are a carnivore - it is delicious. Very friendly staff.

NY Best Pizza

By Mary H |

Very family friendly, laid back with authentic Italian food, neapolitan pizzas and Laura Pizza were the best. Been twice and loved it, can’t wait to go back

Very nice and tasty

By Sophie |

Real nice, tasty, well baked pizza. Nice setting and friendly staff. If we ever visit New York again we sure will come back!

Delicious

By harry t |

The pizza here was very tasty. Absolutely loved it. The service was prompt. A nice cozy place to sit back and enjoy.

Almost Great

By JoeLep |

Nice atmosphere. Sat at a high top and had the Diavolo pizza and a glass of wine from the special board. The ingredients used were fresh and very tasty. I only wish that they would have cooked the pizza a little more. The dough didn't seem fully cooked in some spots. Would go back for another try, but would definitely request that they make it well done. Service was good.

So good!!

By Amanda V |

The pizza is delicious. Definitely try the Aglio Olio. The crust is probably one of the best I have ever had. It has a great atmosphere as well

Yum

By Greenlake52 |

Good food, great staff. Grandchildren loved it! Some had pasta others pizza! All loved the food! Will go again

Cozy atmosphere

By The Travelling Tweeds |

SottoCasa was near our accommodation, so our decision to go there was based on proximity more than anything else, but I did see that it had good reviews and they are well deserved. Yummy authentic pizza with a great crust; attentive service and a cozy atmosphere. There's a second seating section behind the pizza oven, so even if it looks busy when you arrive, still try for a table. Lots of tables for 2.

Italian Gem in Harlem!,

By Mari I |

I was looking for pizza around Harlem and found this place through an app. You walk down a stairs an enter to a cozy place with art on it walls. Staff is very friendly despite been in a rush. They have a variety of Italian artesanal beers. That pizza was delicious and the Hazelnut Tartufo was the perfect ending to our dinner. I really love this place and will be back for sure!

Better than Excellent!

By AshBernadette88 |

We found this establishment through TripAdvisor, which has it listed as one of the best pizza places in NYC. If I could, I would give this restaurant an even higher rating than "Excellent"! Located in Harlem, this restaurant offers authentic Italian cuisine; the owner is actually from Italy, and it shows in the menu options and the food! We started off with a focaccia and olives appetizer, along with an imported Italian beer. Both were delicious! We decided to order the taleggio pizza, which consisted of three different cheeses topped with prosciutto. This was the most delicious pizza I've ever had! The prosciutto was very tender and not too salty, and the cheese blend was super tasty! For dessert, my husband enjoyed the tiramisu while I had the tartufo, which was chocolate ice cream molded around vanilla bean ice cream and topped with cocoa powder, nutella, and espresso grounds. YUM! Aside from the wonderful food, the wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The interior decor was very cozy, and the restaurant was very clean. One of the highlights of our trip to NYC! Would recommend this restaurant to anybody!

Super approved 5 ⭐

All very good. Fresh and top quality products. We took a platter of cold cuts and cheeses, pizzas and tiramisu, all really good. Super recommended

The best Neapolitan Pizza in Brooklyn

By Jack S |

These guys have done their homework, imported the oven and flour and have dedicated themselves to the art of Neapolitan pizza-making. Simple and perfect! Crispy, chewy crust, slightly wet center, fresh tomato sauce and cheese. You can't go wrong at Sottacasa. The wine list is short but affordable with a number of drinkable options. The backyard space is terrific on a warm night and the whole place seems to glow with warmth on cold evenings. Highly recommended after ten plus visits..

Best pizza!

By Linda A |

Absolutely delicious! A must try if in new york! I had the tartufata with extra garlic and arugula... OMG !!! Super friendly, super cute, super delicious!!! They are #1 for a reason! I couldn't believe i was in Harlem having the best pizza of my life!!!

Gem of a pizza place

By Lise B |

We were staying in an AirBNB in Harlem and this restaurant was within walking distance. How fortunate! This little gem of a restaurant offered delicious pizza and Italian apps. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, which made the experience even better. The pizza was so good that we overate. I'm sure it would be good for leftovers, but we didn't leave any to take home!

Pizza!

By Nosvoyages01 |

Loved our pizza! We picked the 4 Stagioni w/vegan mozzarella and it was delicious. The crust is thin and just perfect. 1 order was enough for the 2 of us. Service was fast and pleasant.

Amazing Food

By KathrynRivera |

Amazing Food fired pies in the neighborhood which has become a go-to when I'm craving pizza. Authentic Italian Neapolitan pizzas, rarely with a significant wait time to get a table, and all at very reasonable prices. All the pizzas are great. The time between order and getting the pizzas to the table was incredibly fast, even in a packed restaurant. Perfect crust, wooden char, and soggy/wet in the middle - just perfect. Ingredients were fresh. Service was friendly. The reviews pretty much say it all. If you're ever in the area and craving pizza, drop in and you won't be disappointed!

Truely Italian Pizza in NYC

By Alfira731 |

We visited this little cozy place while we were in NY last week. Pizza was delicious, specialy Tartuffino. Matteo was very polite and professional abd took really good care of us. Very simple but authentic and warm hearted place in such a big crazy city like NY. Well done

Best Napolitano pizza

By bobson2000 |

The best pizza in Brooklyn, therefore in NYC. Very family friendly and excellent service. This is certainly Brooklyn best kept secret.

This pizzeria has no competition

By Yasiel Infante |

This pizzeria has no competition, a unique flavor! Of all the ones that I have tried, I prefer this one, its atmosphere, the service and its food, everything is first class.

Great neighborhood restaurant, worth a visit

By Hebeka |

I have visited Sotto Casa many times and they have always delivered a great meal. The quality and freshness of food is exceptional. While the restaurant offers a very friendly and casual atmosphere, their take out is also solid. We usually go with the Autunno, Burrata (only available Friday- Sunday) and Margherita pizzas. It is also great for larger groups as we have had several larger family outings and birthday parties. Service is consistently strong and accommodating.

amazing

By Wellington.D |

This pizzeria serves tasty Neapolitan pizza with diverse toppings in a cozy setting. The staff is friendly, and the Ceci salad and leopard pizza are outstanding. The skilled pizzaioli ensure a clean environment, and the convenient location offers ample seating.

Yummy, authentic pizza in beautiful Harlem

By Gene T |

Delicious authentic Neapolitan pizza in a lovely Harlem brownstone setting. Salads are excellent as well. Highly recommended!

AMAZING Pizza and friendliest owner!!!

By katherine w |

With the current health crisis, we had to celebrate my godmother’s 83rd birthday at home and order in. Based on the reviews, we ordered from Sottocasa and were more than willing to pick it up as we are 10 blocks out of the delivery radius. When I called, Mateo the owner answered and he was more than accommodating as he said they will deliver to us! The pizzas were delicious! (And I’m a very critical native New York pizza connoisseur.) The ingredients are so fresh and the seasoning is perfection! These are thin individual pizzas that are cooked to perfection. To top it off, because I had mentioned it was my godmother’s birthday, an individual tiramisu with a candle was wrapped in its own bag with Happy Birthday written on it, An absolute delight! I’m already telling my friends to support this jewel in the heart of Harlem. Try it, you will not regret it!

Perfect Pizza

By Lesley O |

This restaurant is welcoming and service is attentive and friendly. We shared the Tagliere platter and Quattro Stagioni pizza. Both were generous serves and delicious. There is a huge pizza oven at the back cranking out pizzas with love and dexterity. Beer and wines were moderately priced.

Perfect hidden gem

By mategreat |

Really COZY place, great food pizza and tiramisu. Great service and very friendly vibe. Happy to travel back to eat here again

Pizza pizza

By Tjmd2018 |

Delicious pizza, excellent service. Great ambiance. Perfect crust and right amount of stuff on the pie

Outstanding

By annaritang |

I’m from Italy (really) and I really like good tasty but not to heavy pizza. Now this is the place! In addition outstanding service, familiar but not extravagant, warm, cordial with cosy and very nicely decorated ambient, ideal for both couples or for family gatherings. Service is perfect and all areas of the restaurant are clean and tidy. You can see that is properly run and always under the control of the owners who wore me welcome you at any occasion.

Best Pizza

By Amit |

This place is a hidden Jam in Harlem, but I have no doubt it will become a destination where people will stand in long lines.. so be the first one ( it’s already busy) to discover it.

Nice place

By Frank Frank |

We visited Sottocasa in December with a group of 10 people, family and relatives. The atmosphere was really nice, welcoming. We ordered different types of pizza, the ingredients were fresh and good quality but the pizza was not baked enough, maybe because they were very busy and didn't have time to cook it well. However we had a good time. It is a very nice place.

Best pizza ever!

By Raj Singh |

I came here with my wife and I loved the interior of the place, the staff are really friendly, and helped me make some good recommendations. Next time I come to New York you better believe I’m coming to this yummy place

Best Pizza

By John M |

The pizza was very delicious. Good service. Having such yummy Italian food so close to home is great.

The best pizza

By marconyteref |

The best pizza in New York for sure. I love this place. On weekends, I go there with my friends and we have too much fun. Staff is friendly and service is amazing.

Couples

By Mark Z |

Ok I admit I’m the worst kind of pizza geek. I imported a pizza oven from Italy that is in my backyard. That being said this place was great. We started with a Ceci (garbanzo bean) salad with tuna and capers and lemon that can only be described as clean and fresh and amazing. Complimenting the bean salad was a delightful leopard pizza. The crust was perfect, sauce light and cheese balanced. One of the best pizzas in the States. Support this place!

Lunch pizza

By elinsky11 |

Highly recommend SottoCasa pizza. Wood burning brick oven and fresh ingredients made for the best pizza experience yet. Neopolitan style with varied toppings but the buffalo margarita pizza was our favorite. Fast service and Interesting beers as well. Well worth the trip to Harlem and will definitely be back.

Great surprise!!

By sperezm |

The place is small and during covid it has a few tables in the sidewalk and the street. We went a Saturday night, around 7pm and fortunately we found a table, because ten minutes later there was a line. We ordered the burrata plate which was very fresh and the prosciutto crudo pizza. The pizza was amazing!! Delicious and it came very fast. I also liked the service, the woman was very kind. I want to go back and try the other pizzas.

Okay

By missm922 |

Service was great. Salad and wine—delicious. Pizza—not that good. It was wet and soggy. We rolled it up and ate it so that the crust would take over. It had a good flavor other than the texture. Cannoli and macchiato was very good.

As Advertised, Best Pizza We Have Had In NYC

By Glorydays56 |

Had to try SottaCasa after reading all the great reviews on TripAdvisor . SottaCasa did not disappoint and actually exceeded our expectations. The pizza was incredible. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients that were in the pizza and it made all the difference in the world. The dough was just incredibly fresh, light and airy. Just perfect. The Italian beer we ordered was also great and very cold. It hit the spot on a very hot New York evening. Will go to again on our next trip to NYC and so should you.

A Casual Bite

By Nipendro |

The atmosphere was laid-back, perfect for a quick meal. The pizza was decent but didn’t blow us away. It was a bit greasy for our taste. Overall, it’s a fine spot if you’re craving pizza, but it’s nothing to write home about.

Neapolitan Pizza in New York City!

By GIONIAonTour |

Wow, this Neapolitan pizza was a really pleasant discovery during our stay in New York. The Italian staff was extremely friendly and the pizza was really traditional. It is amazing how they brought the Italian food art in NY!

Great pizza

By Lance D |

My sons both said this was the best pizza they'd ever had... and they eat a lot of pizza! Great service, good feed and a very nice atmosphere.

Italian Pizza in Harlem

By SwmGam |

We ate here first night in New York. The first thing to say about this restaurant is that it serves pizza in the Italian style, which came as a real surprise to us. The pizzas are delicious and large. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area

Pizza restaurant Harlem

By 198larag |

What a great find. So delicious. Highly recommend. Loved that it was in the basement of a brownstone

Excellent pizza

Excellent pizza, we ate 3 different ones, all were phenomenal. Amazing wood oven. Service was excellent, reasonable prices, what more can anyone ask.

Best Pizza in Harlem!

By ishween S |

Quaint little place one level down from street level - lovely staff & the best pizza in Harlem hands down!

Among the best pizzas in NYC

By Giovanni M |

I am known as a prudent italian guy, particularly careful when we're talking about food. This is the only reason I have not written "the best pizza in NYC". We could find a compromise sayng "May be the best pizza in NYC". Howewer this small restaurant in Harlem offers a pizza whose quality could easily compete with the best in Naples or wherever in Italy. So if you want to find an authentic piece of italian food culture, this is the place. Friendly, easy and smiling service. Price aligned with the quality of the food.

Try the calzone!

By Komunik8 |

We liked the pizza - we LOVED the calzone and find it difficult not to order the same thing every time. Amazing selection of Italian beers also.

Great Pizza. Fast Service

By Jessica K |

Great pizza and fast service. Small local business with walking distance from our hotel. Reasonably priced

Genuine pizza napoletana

By Jonas F |

Me and my family visited SottoCasa after a day in downtown NYC. Tired and hungry we really needed to fuel-up before heading back to the hotel. The pizzas were fantastic, almost as good as the one we hade on our previous trip to Napoli. The staff was really nice and service very attentive. And they made the pizzas very quickly, we were in-and-out in less than 45 min. At SottoCasa they make genuine pizza Napoletana and baked for 60–90 seconds in a 485 °C (905 °F) stone oven with wood fire. This is one of the reasons the pizza taste sooo good. The other reason is they use really good ingredients. So if you happen to be in Brooklyn and need to grab a bite, this place is really worth a detour.

Delicioso!!!

By R S |

Listen pizza was so so good we ordered more focaccia and pizza to take away cause dear lord I am so glad this is in Harlem cause I always find myself and our friends back in Harlem!!

A real Neapolitan pizza in Harlem

By Aincy |

After a beautiful gospel mass in Harlem we did not know where to have lunch and by pure chance while walking we found this Italian pizzeria .. After consulting some reviews for fear of having some surprises from one of the many pseudo-Italian places we entered... Just passed the entrance threshold a nice environment with Italian music in the background and to welcome us a Sicilian, I think was the owner, made us sit... We ordered two daisies and, once served, we already understood that we were in front of a real Italian pizza, or rather Neapolitan. The flavors were those of home and the lightness that only first quality products can give... The bill, although high for us Italians, was in line with the prices of New York, indeed perhaps even a little below those we had seen on the menus of other restaurants in Little Italy .. Satisfied, after complimenting the owner, we left with the knowledge that we had returned home for a few hours... Congratulations really for the place and for the pizza!

la miglior pizza di NY

By Matteo V |

I love this place and pizza is delicious!i will definitely go back! i ordered diavola and homemade beer

Tasty, Homemade pizza

By Ksusha |

Fresh, tasty homemade pizza. Great service and wait is not too long. Ordered from there like 10 times, different flavors and never was disappointed. Highly recommended

Genuine Neapolitan style pizza

By Chris W |

tucked away in a basement in Harlem, this place is a hidden gem. Delicious pizza that both real Italians and real New Yorkers can get behind. Comfortable and simple dining room, and good wine and beer to pair with you pizza. Great place to hang out with friends.

Benissimo

By Megan B |

We were in Central Park and googled best pizza nearby. The many good reviews were not wrong. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of Primitivo with two of the best pizzas we've ever had. We were having such a good time that we ordered desserts too. Tartuffo and canoli were both perfect. One of the highlights of our New York visit. Really welcoming.

Amazing

By Aimée L |

Even outside it looks lovely- lots of fairy lights and plants by the entrance. We were greeted straight away and had the voice between a high or low table. The lighting was just right, the music too. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by local works of art, which were all available to buy. Our waitress was faultless, quickly taking our wine and pizza order. We weren’t kept waiting long for our meal. Both our pizzas were sublime! We ordered a bottle of wine to go with it and that was reasonable yet agreeable drinking. Our desserts were out of this world! The chocolate tartufo was out of this world good. We’ll definitely be back!

the real deal

By billcarroll289 |

Having been to Napoli a few times, we have a good sense of what wood oven pizza should taste like..Soto Casa was just excellent and what great pizzais all about. Although pizza is the star of the show, Soto's insalata's are varied, well prepared with wonderful finishings. A great experience for us

Restaurant

By Jason R |

Amazing restaurant with a great staff as well as wonderful food. A good place to take your spouse for dinner.

Best pizza in NYC

By Jonathan H |

This is my second time here. I didn’t think it could get better but it did:) first time I ate pizza with blue cheese, which usually takes over all other tastes. In this case however, it was PERFECTION. This time however I ate the Special Burrata pizza. Both subtle and satisfying it is the best pizza I’ve ever had. Easily the best pizza place in NYC

The Real Deal!

By Euclidian1989 |

Being a self-described pizza snob, I had high hopes for SottoCasa, and it was AWESOME! The staff makes you feel like a family member, and the ambiance of this restaurant feels like someone's home. I enjoyed a margherita pizza. The simple, beautiful Neopolitan ingredients were first-rate, and the restaurant has a very impressive beer and wine list. I will definitely visit SottoCasa on my next visit to NYC!

Favourite Pizza joint

By James lorenzo |

Great vegan options , good vibe and my favourite pizza joint in the city . Been twice and loved it, can’t wait to go back !

Authentic Italian Pizza

By whenisyournexttrip |

This is not New York style pizza! This is the real deal. The wine, the atmosphere, the candles and the PIZZA all transported me back to the streets of Italy where the pizzas are simple and fresh with real, quality ingredients. I have never had pizza this good in the US. I love that they bring olive oil to the table with the pizza. Truly authentic in every way. Thank you Sottocasa for an amazing meal and for maintaining the cleanliness of your space. Top notch!!

Pizza perfection !

By Maddieirish |

We found this place by accident so decided to try it out ,we were happy with the service, and the pizza was perfectly cooked and large and delicuous .

great pizza in Brooklyn

By jeannie b |

We went there on a Saturday night so it was very crowded...they don't take reservations but we didn't wait long. It was very good pizza and wine and we would go there again. Service was good, but the place is very noisy! Our only complaint.

An old favorit

By Tiffany Johns |

Pizza is common, but high quality pizza is not. I really enjoyed their products before, but with their excellent takeout they've become my favorites!

the real deal

By Nichole J |

It's so lovely to walk down into this restaurant, greet your friendly Italian hosts for the evening, walk through the cozy setting with rustic furniture and community table that invites imbibing on their finest chianti, passing by the brick oven and open kitchen to the back patio for a garden-like setting. Simple, fine ingredients make the meal perfect. Whet your appetite on the Rughetta salad and indulge in any rosse or bianchi pizza that you desire. Share a salad and pizza with a friend or go big and have one all to yourself (as I usually do). Walk off your full belly shopping the cute shops along Atlantic Ave or Smith Street.

the real deal pizza

By S B |

the real deal pizza. excellent dough and ingredients.good service. the quintessesntial pizza place..

Excellent pizza

By Jenny_from_PA |

Lots of different pizzas to choose from and we really enjoyed what we got. The only complaint is that they only have one size pizza, 11”, which is a bit large for one person but too small for two unless you get a salad or a dessert. My son loved the Nutella pizza for dessert and it lasted him 3 days.

great go to pizza house in the neighborhood

By tonytD9568SZ |

We've come here several times and have not been disappointed. Three of us split the Amatriciana- tomatoes, caramelized onions, pancetta, pecorino & basil, as well as the Saliccia- tomatoes, mozz, hot italian sausage, basiil . Two pizzas were fine for three of us. service was good.

Great pizza in a basement

By Sundeep J |

Based on Tripadvisor, went to look for this place. Even though I was specifically looking for this, I walked straight passed it, as it is in a basement, somewhat different from what I expected and not immediately visible from the street. The place is simple, but organized. I was served very well by the staff, paying good attention to me. There is no WiFi, for some a positive point, for others a negative point. Now for the pizza: very good pizza, tasty and light pizza dough. Perhaps another 30 seconds in the oven would have been better, because the center part of the pizza got a tiny little soggy. A little more crunch might have avoided that. But the taste was excellent. Although the pizza was for 1 person, it was large enough to feed a 2nd (small) eater.

Good spot

By Ralph P |

Good pizza, enjoyed by the kids as well. Fun place, good service. Will try to return for dinner next time.

My favorite food in NYC! We’re

My favorite food in NYC! We’re always up for a drive into the city for this awesome pizza! Quality ingredients are noticeable and make this restaurant so exceptional. The salads are amazing and anything with the Buffalo Mozzarella is a must try!

Great pizza

By Steph R |

My husband and are pizza obsessed. We had a late check in for our VRBO, and this authentic Italian restaurant was right around the corner. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was GREAT! The waitress made suggestions that were delicious!

Pizza at it’s best!

By Alex_Ryan |

Really liked the food, the atmosphere was very relaxed and the place is family friendly. We’ll go back for a dinner for sure!

Awesome!!

By Juan Carlos m |

We got to this place by its reviews in TripAdvisor. Walking near the beautiful churches in Harlem, you found this semi underground cozy and very Italian place. The service is very good, the Italian-artisanal beers, great; but the pizza... mamma Mia!!! One of the best pizzas I’ve had in all my life (and I am a big fan of traditional pizzas). Try the 4 formaggi, which is just unbelievable.

Good pizzas

By KANewYork |

I’ve eaten here a few times, however it had been a while. Went in this time on a Friday. We got a table after a short wait. Had the boscaiola pizza with sausage and mushrooms. The pizza dough is great- soft and chewy. The toppings I felt had gone down a few steps. The flavors were just a bit different from when they started. Had a bottle of prosecco. Nice staff. Still a great meal!

Excellent food

By eugeniabalseiro |

Great value for money. Food was delicious! Best pizza I have ever eaten so far. 100% recommended if you are in town..

IItalian style pizza

By rk8018 |

We are into a bit different style of pizza So for us was good but no special Our guess is from Sardinia and she loved it Fun location as We were staying in Harlem The Menu is pizza and calzones So not a lot of variety Yes it's a pizza place and that they do well

Excellent,as in Italy ❤️

By Eddy |

Finally a real meal ❤️ Pizza as in Italy, very nice waiter. I highly recommend changing fast and bad New York food.

Probably the best pizza in town

By JumpingLangur |

We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the pizzas here, rivaling those you find on the streets of Napoli. High quality ingredients and very nicely done base, just like true Napolitean pizza. Pizzas and drinks are a bit pricey, but in my opinion totally justified in light of the very good service, nice atmosphere and top-notch pizzas.

Delicious

By siennalee1800 |

You never know what to expect with Pizza in the US, but the pizzas at ScottoCasa were some of the best I have ever eaten. Just delicious, great service.

Absolutely the best pizza in New York

By tgalis |

Sottocasa is amazing! The place is great, the atmosphere is fun and the service is wonderful (Dora is the best!!!!!). We go to Sottocasa often and we went again yesterday for a small celebration dinner. I love the boscaiola pizza, but yesterday I tried the diavola. It was extraordinarily good - do try it. I cannot recommend the place enough.

A little bit pricey but...

By Principissimo |

...what a Pizza. Being Italian I love pizza but it is not always easy to find good ones abroad. This one is really a great pizza and if you have not problem in spending a little bit more than for a regular one go for it.

Good vibe, good food!

By KimGR |

Great food, good location and very nice staff, Anna! Our favorite was Capriccio! Would definitrly recommend this place :)

Really good gluten free pizza

By Beate A |

Best gluten free pizza I have ever tasted! The service was really good and the location was good looking

Great pizza!

By Maura K |

If you like wood-fired pizza, welcome to SottoCasa. Their ingredients are top-notch, and the crust is at once chewy and light as a feather--pizza perfect. The service was prompt and friendly, even on a Friday night. And the facility is charming, if a bit noisy. Remember that sotto means bottom--this place is at the bottom of a brownstone and is easy to miss.

Fantastic

By MaureenJK |

Great pizza, cozy atmosphere, lovely service! Coming from Europe and having grown up with really good Italian food, this was wonderful and unexpected. I‘ve never had pizza in the US that came close. But this was truly authentic and delicious. The tiramisu was another great surprise. You won’t be disappointed! We loved this place.

Great food

By Eddie N |

I really like this place. Best pizza I have ever had and at 82 years old I have had a lot of pizza in my life time. I will be back whenever I am here for business or pleasure,. I want to try everything on the menu,

Gluten Free!

By Natalie |

Fantastic thin crust pizza. They offer gluten free as well as regular, which is great if you want to go with friends without food restrictions. I've not gotten sick eating there. Yum!

Great visit to the Brooklyn location

By Paige G |

The pizza was wonderful. They used a variety of Italian cheeses which made each pizza special. It tastes authentic like we enjoyed in Italy. We also loved the Tiramisu. It was really good and had a great balance of the different flavors. We will definitely return on our next trip.

Great food and service

By Juwels9000 |

Pizza was so good, we had the Two pizzas and some focaccia for the three of us and it did not disappoint. Service was great too.

Worth the rating

By Jeff W |

I haven’t tried all the pizza in NYC but I’m working on it. If you tried to tell me there’s pizza in this city that’s way better than SottoCasa I’d probably punch you in the face. It’s top level.

good pizza in a nice environment

By dei40 |

The first thing to say is that this is not the #3 restaurant in NYC. However, it is a good pizzeria. Good options, good size for the (individual) pizza, good dough, cordial service. I will go there again.

Fresh and Tasty

By havingfunagain |

A warm, inviting , comfortable pizzeria, Sottocasa is a place to go. Fresh ingredients placed in a wood fire stove.  Located St 227 Lenox Ave, Sottocasa is located below street level. I had the Napoli. Really tasty and melts in your mouth. The small pie hit the spot. Reasonable pricing. If you are nearby or want to take a ride stop in. You will be glad you did.

Good Pizzi

Nice cosy place with really good Italian Pizzi. Delicious and authentic at a reasonable price. Would recommend.

Pizza

By Jacco B |

All the reviews on TripAdvisor are correct: the pizza’s in the basement of this Malcolm X brownstone house are amazing. They do not take reservations but even on a Fridaynight at 7pm we had a table immediately. Great pizza’s by the way! And good wines and beers at very reasonable prices. Would surely recommend SottoCasa.

Mmmmm! No words to describe!

By Sailorman8888 |

So my friend I am visiting in Harlem asks me if I want to experience NY Style pizza. So I searched Trip Advisor to find that the #1 Resturant in all NYC is SottoCasa Pizzeria just blocks away! So we were off! The pizza was incredible, the red sauce style we choose had ham and artichokes that combined in the correct proportions with the perfect seasonings and mozzarella cheese, made for a gastronomic experience you can palate with pleasure. All kidding aside. May be one of the best pizzas I’ve ever experienced. You won’t be disappointed! On the way in we had a close call with the wind blowing over an umbrella. But it made for many laughs.

Just might be the best pizza I have ever had!

By ccrgtaylor |

Perfection! I have dreams of this pizza, and it just might have ruined all pizza for me, but it was worth it!

Delicious and worth it 😋

By Laura G |

We found the review on trip advisor, tried to ring to book a table (it was constantly engaged) then read they don’t take bookings so decided to just turn up. We are really glad we did, it was a really cute place was a nice atmosphere. We were seated right away and the service all night was fab. The pizza was definitely worth the 25 minute travel and the home made tiramisu was the best I’ve ever eaten. If you love pizza and want to go to a place with atmosphere and a homely feel don’t hesitate to try Sottocasa.

Good Pizza

By WengerKS |

Good pizza, fresh and authentic. Not sure how this is the #1 ranked in the whole city but it was good. I would definitely go again. It’s a bit of a jaunt if you are in Midtown but worth a trip if you have the time.

Vest Pizza ever

By Sreedevi M |

My son took me and a friend to this cute little restaurant in Harlem. It is a family run place. The server recommended the special, a pizza with pea puree instead if tomato base, it was the best pizza I've eaten.

Must Visit

By Hugo R |

You must visit this joint when you are visiting the city. There's nothing from the menu that is not worth a 5 star rating.

Good vibe and pizza

By JK3581 |

Though entrance (down stairs) is a bit off putting, the pizza is very good. Chick pea appetizer was excellent. Staff was friendly and attentive. Worth a visit with so many thin-crust pizza restaurants.

Excellent New York Pizza

By Mark G |

Whether you eat in or take out the service is spot on, very professional, polite and they get the order right every time. The crust is crunchy wood oven crispy and the top chewy delicious. Every pizza we have have been so flavorful, our favorites are the clam and the Prosciutto. We have had pizza in Northern Italy and we could not tell the difference, excellent pizza.

Entertainment

By Denielsan |

Great experience! I ate pizza with a friend and my family in this locale..la pizza really good! Excellent dough, quality products. Very kind owner! One of the best meals in my life

Loved it!!!

By Gatoresq |

Went for lunch mid-day on a Sunday - no lines and no waiting, which was perfect as we were in a bit of a rush. Service was excellent, friendly and prompt. Started with a charcuterie platter which was as pretty as it was delicious. Seriously the best ricotta cheese and crisp, warm focaccia I've ever had! Then the pizza - truffle spread, some mushrooms and prosciutto on top. Sooooo soooo soooo delicious. Wanted to order a second pie and try something else but we were too full. Great fresh ground coffee too. Very reasonably priced - espec for a top-rated and quality restaurant in NYC. We absolutely will go back for sure!!

Amazing

By margaval |

As an italian I definitely approve this pizzeria! It is a real delicious neapolitan pizza! The staff is friendly and nice, and the service is efficient... Absolutely recommended! We will be back!

A-ma-zing!!

Excellent service, excellent recommendations, excellent pizza and tiramisu. All in all an awesome evening and would frequent often if we were local.

Good choice

By George D |

Really good antipasti, top pizza, reasonably priced wines and a lovely welcome. Worth leaving room for tiramisu too!

Probably the best pizza I’ve had in North America.

By summerforeverandaday |

Excellent tasting pizza at this pizzeria. Top quality ingredients. We all really enjoyed our meals. Will be back when we’re in nyc .

Clean and Inviting

By GoldenMonarch |

I give this a four for the overall experience, not rating the food alone. This restaurant makes beautiful looking pizzas with fresh ingredients. The flavors are simple and mild, so the taste of each ingredient shines. The pizza crust is delightfully soft and chewy, even the gluten free one. The gluten free crust was more moist in the center than I prefer, but I expected it to be that way since that is the nature of this type of dough. I appreciated the inviting atmosphere, cleanliness of the restaurant, and the pleasant staff.

Great Restaurant

By elizadurazo |

One of the best pizza in New York. Authentic feel and lovely staff. I will go back for the great pizza and the best tiramisu in town.

Authentic

By ViaraDimz |

Visited SottoCasa after seeing it was ranked #1 in NYC, have to say the ingredients and dough are spot on. Definitely worth a visit if you know your pizza.

Taste of Italian in Harlem

By AirSchis |

My review is based on a take out pizza I picked up. Visited here based on recommendations from friends. Warmly greeted and provided a menu plus a glass of water. Made my order from choices of red and white pizza and calzone. The Salsiccia pizza was excellent. Neapolitan style pizza with a tasty crust. For certain I will return. The pizza came very quickly.

Very good service, and perfect pizza

By IPD |

Authentic Italian pizza, with nice service and a fine atmosfare 😊. Perfect place for a familie dinner, and I guess it will be a nice place for a date.

Anchovies! Laura!

Excellent pizzas, and friendly staff. Neapolitan pizzas and Laura Pizza were the best. Tab came to $96 with panacotta, tiramisu, 3 pizzas and some wine. To be done again soon.

Amazing!!

By StaciP3 |

So I was skeptical that TripAdvisor called this the #1 restaurant in NYC, but it was in Harlem and we wanted to visit the neighborhood so we decided to give it a try our first night in NYC. Oh my God!! That's all I can say. The food was sooo good we were just in awe. There is great food throughout NYC, and this place was one of our favorite meals we had. I had a great Italian Pale Ale that I wish I could remember the name of so I could try to find it again. Lots of great beers and wine to choose from. Had a Mozarella and Tomato salad that was to die for and then my wife and I each got a pizza. I had sausage with peppers while my wife got the Margherita Pizza. Both were spectacular. The service wasn't what I'm used to in Las Vegas. They were nice enough but not really on you as much as I'm used to. I thought at first that maybe they were slacking, but after eating at other places in NYC, I kinda realized that's just how the service in this town is. The owner was very nice however and we had a great conversation with him before we left. I couldn't recommend this place more and I will definitely visit again if I'm ever in NYC again.

Delicious

Wow, just wow. The pizza is some of the best I have ever had. Nothing can beat a New York pizza! I will definitely be coming back!!

Nice pizzeria

By Lee A |

We visited SottoCasa last night. The pizzeria is a great little place that is situated in a basement. The decor and ambience are lovely. All of the pizzas are nice but we had unfortunately visited Bleeker Street pizzeria previously and we all felt that that pizza was superior. The area where the restaurant is located is ‘up and coming’ which reminds me of Brixton in the early 90’s. If you stick to Malcolm X Boulevard you will be ok, but the walk from Lexington and 116th Street felt a little sketchy. On the whole a nice restaurant that’s worth the visit.

It's like being in Italia !

We go there often , this is as close to pizza in Italy as you can get,,, the managers are very nice .. great place for a date or family's

Amazing Pizza in NYC

By Dario L |

One of the best spot in the City for the real Italian pizza. Staff is always very kind, and food delicious. Also very good choice of wine! Definitely a must go!

Very good pizza, but I wouldn't say it was near #1

By grn11 |

This is a cute little restaurant. The choice of pizzas is varied (we had one with artichoke hearts, sausage, black olives). This is a neapolitan style pizza, so as they state on their menu, the center is "wet" (soggy). This is probably because it is an extremely thin crust, and a thin, wet sauce. It was tasty, but I definitely had better pizza during my stay in NYC.

Wonderful

By Brian |

Delicious pizza ,tomato sauce so fresh .Wonderful personal service and extremely welcoming.See you soon, guys

Authentic Italian cuisine!!

By KirstenAK |

I’d come to New York just to eat here! The food was fresh and authentic. Everything was amazing. The service was friendly and fast, I can’t think of anything that would make it a better experience.

Fabulous

By Steve S |

Possibly the best pizza I've ever eaten. Incredible dough, fresh, hot, cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven. Excellent service too. A hidden gem in Harlem. Perfect.

I went to the pizza place they have in Brooklyn for their end-of-year dinner. Delicious pizza, as we like, the owner very kind and friendly, helped us find a place to spend midnight in the Tribeca area.

The best gluten free pozza

Hard to find good GF pizza but this place does it right. The regular pizza is excellent too. Thin crust, fresh quality ingredients. A must when in Harlem.

Was a very easy walk from the Hilton Hotel. The staff was pleasant. Our food came out fast and delicious! I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area. Traveling on business or pleasure and looking for a good meal. The pricing is very reasonable!

Fantastic restaurant with great ambience, stellar service, and delicious food. Their vegan pizza are amazing, as is their gluten free pizza. This place is very accommodating.

Best margherita pizza I’ve

By Geraldine H |

Best margherita pizza I’ve had in New York!!! Great atmosphere, great service. Perfect for a nice lunch with friends or family. It almost feels like home, cozy and warm. The pizza was amazing, not a thick pizza but rather thin which I prefer. I had a Spritzer and it was very good as well, not too bitter. If you go to NYC you must go have pizza at this place.

Great atmosphere

By Drollighansel |

The restaurant has an authentic feel, with staff speaking Italian. Nice feel to the space, and you can see the chef putting the pizzas in the oven. The best part of the pizza was the excellent crust.

Dinner

By GreatTraveltime |

Worth the trip from Midtown. The atmosphere was like you were dining in someone's home. The food was good and the service was even better.

Lunch on Saturday

By WB1997 |

It was a great experience. Very attentive customer service. The Pizza ingredients were amazing, fresh and high quality. Interestingly good selection of Italian wines and beer. Definitely worth the time

Never disappoints

By Jennifer O |

This is top quality and very authentic Italian pizza. Anyone who tells you otherwise does not know what they are talking about. Great beer list as well.

Great experience

By Kris T |

We split a generous salad before digging into our perfectly crafted pizzas. Both of the pizzas we ordered were superb. Try the spicy oil as a dip for the wonderful crust. Can’t wait to try it again..

Pizza Heaven

By Diane C |

This was real Italian pizza. I live in the UK so I do not have the chance to enjoy real pizza, this place served the best pizza. This was a cosy restaurant with a friendly Italian feel, the manager was very attentive and helpful, he advised my partner on the types of beer they sold (this was Artisan Beer). The service was relaxed and friendly. To start we shared a refreshing beetroot and goats cheese salad, the pizza I chose was the Boscaiola it was like eating heaven, my partner had the special which came without tomato sauce base but he cannot remember the name, sorry. It was a 45 min taxi ride but I would do it again, it was lovely watching the world go by instead of walking, but you can get the Subway. You have to try this place.

Super pizza in the heart of Harlem

By Marzia C |

On the advice of a friend of the owner Matteo, we came to look for this hidden place in Harlem We ate excellent pizza and drank delicious draft beer. Very kind staff and adequate bill.
