Best bargain fine dining in NYC

By Dave H |

This place is a gem, a real tiny little take out place that can seat up to 28 customers in good weather and 10 inside. The food is amazing, I’ve been eating here twice a month for the last 3 years. I’ve never had a bad meal, authentic house made pastas, incredible appetizers-try the zucchini timbalo- basically a zucchini parmigiana. And it’s a bargain, $27 for the best lamb chops I’ve ever had, versus $42-48 anywhere else in the city. The owner Luigi is a wonderful host, who will make just about any dish you desire. Oh, and it’s BYOB, with no corkage fee. Grab a bottle of Italian red from the the liquor/wine stores in a one block radius, and you are all set. That saves you $50 right there. And you gotta try the house made tiramisu if you have room.

Authentic Italian food. The guy running the place was incredibly kind and all of our dishes were quite tasty! Just be aware there aren't too many tables for seating (six at most) since this is a "to go" place.

Excellent, non-touristy, but very Upper West Side.

Okay, travelers…want a cool NYC experience? Then try Spiga to Go. Located in a non-touristy, but “with-it” Upper West Side neighborhood, this is basically a take-out spot, but the owner, Luigi, who at one point had a terrific restaurant on the Upper West Side, decided he wanted to cut back and get involved in the very hot take-out business in NYC. But..he has a few tables—he seats about ten—and locals in the know love this spot. Great value and its BYOB, so bring your favorite Italian red. Nothing fancy about the décor but you will look out at a very cool wine bar across the street, which, by the way, is filled with old brownstones and you might even channel once upon a time residents John Lennon, Leonard Bernstein or Lauren Bacall.

Fantastic.

Small, but cute place, with small outdoor terrace and some table on the street, the owner very courteous, like all the staff, the veal escalope with potatoes and spinach are sublime, do not miss it!

Real Italian food in NYC

Great, little, place with amazing Italian cuisine. Wonderful service and a very helpful owner. We were four that night, each one got a different dish and they were all incredible. Like being in Italy.

Delicious and super authentic Italian food!

Spiga is a wonderfully authentic Italian restaurant on the Upper West Side. The food is delicious (fresh burrata! amazing fettuccine a la bolognese!) and they now offer a great variety of wine options (including organic). The space is small and cozy, and can quickly get busy, but they accept reservations. Service is great and Marco, the owner, is very friendly and attentive. I almost hesitate to write this review because it's a neighborhood gem and I'd like it to stay that way, but they deserve it. So, if you’re looking for authentic Italian food in NYC’s Upper West Side, don’t hesitate to go to Spiga, you won’t regret it!
