A little gem in NYC

By AnnaB |

Great food, nice selection of cocktails and pleasant indoor and outdoor seating. We came across this place last Saturday, just wanted a cocktail on a beautiful spring day. St. Tropez had a few good choices, in addition to a very good wine list, and we ended up having delicious appetizers, cappuccinos and even shared a desert - just because we did not want to leave.

Gem amongst other gems!

There are so many great restaurants in the general area of this restaurant but this is our adult daughter’s favorite. We decided to stop by late on a Saturday night. The place was very busy but the owner seated us very quickly. We ordered a nice Beaujolais at the recommendation of the owner while we reviewed the menu. We ordered salads and entrees, primarily pasta. Everything was properly prepared and served timely. The food was fresh and outstanding. The service was outstanding.

Perfect spot in west village

We had a dinner for two person during a busy evening, the food was great and the waiter was very friendly. A great address

Quintessential NYC west village casual dining experience.

By epochsee |

Let me start this review by saying that this restaurant is a keeper. On the small side, noisy, with tight seating inside but that is not meant to be perceived in a negative way. The service is friendly, professional, and spot on. The drinks are done right and the food is exceptional. Its not traditional French haute cuisine but it is fantastic food and there is real talent in the kitchen. Started with Mussels appetizer which was perfect. Escargots were the best I’ve had. Bronzino over Ratatouille was light and very tasty. Fish was prepared perfectly and the veggies were firm but not too firm. The wife and I had to catch a show so we could not linger (but we will next time). Staff were very attentive and service was excellent. I was running late for my reservation and called. It was no problem they held the table for us and served us promptly. This is definitely a winner in my book.

West Village Gem

By Arturo G |

I walked to west village from Chelsea because getting anything to eat at Chelsea Market was a nightmare. I came across this little bistro on my stroll to find something to eat. It happened to be brunch so it was super busy. Luckily, it was just me so I was able to get seated in about 15 minutes. I ordered off their brunch menu, had the cheeseburger; I had been craving something melty and messy, this hit the spot. It came with a beautiful mixed green salad, and baby roasted potatoes, not fries, but potatoes, so good. I accompanied it with one of their yummy bloody marys. It was the perfect lunch. The restaurant was loud, but I was able to have a conversation with a couple that sat next to me who was also visiting from out of town. I was still there when the brunch crowd left, so the restaurant got quieter and nicer.

Super Chouette

By TripperFiend |

Great ambiance with a single open room with both large communal tables and smaller tables for 2/4 etc. French wine bar with a nice broad selection of wines and a versatile menu with both entrees and small plates to share. Great date place or a gathering of friends. The noise level is not overbearing which is nice and they play good music. The best thing I can say about St Tropez is that it's fun......yes it's French but it doesn't take itself too seriously and I could easily see this place as a casual neighborhood restaurant in Paris. The food was solid and our table of 4 ordered numerous small plates that we shared. The service was very nice with no attitude; we lingered till all the other customers had left and no one even hinted that it was time to leave. Highly recommended!

Nice - but not better than many others

By EzPablo |

Vibrant and lively place. The food is good but not spectacular. I do not consider it to be particularly French. Neither do I consider it to be a wine bar. It’s a NYC restaurant with village crowd and the accompanying food and beverage service. Which is great, but not more. Side notes: The vegetarian options such as risotto are not really good and creative. It can get cold in the winter with the door constantly opening and closing. And, lastly, they tend to overbook and “forget” about your reservation or try to sit you outdoors.

Great but loud and a little rushed

By NaplesVisitor |

This place probably deserves the top rating but I am taking off a little because of a couple of reasons. First, the good - charming neighborhood, adorable inside, nice menu, good food, fairly priced, and excellent service. It really is a bustling and charming French Bistro. That said, we knew that the tables turn like clockwork - and it did. We sat at about 7:30 and by 9:05, the next party was hovering over us (the place is pretty small and it was too cold to wait outside). The food comes out quickly and the servers move the whole meal along in anticipation of this. I suppose if we didn't know this in advance, we would have been a little upset. Also, it's very noisy in there. So, if you want to linger over your meal or be able to have any sort of meaningful conversation during dinner, this may not be the place. Or, come here late in the evening when they aren't turning the table again. Overall, it was terrific and I would return notwithstanding the pace and noise level.

Superb food, wonderful staff!

By IainLoudon |

Went here for a 9pm reservation. Taken bang on time and the food we got was genuinely incredible! We had oysters to start that were so fresh it was like they were just out the sea. Mussels and meatballs for starter’s. The sauce sauce the mussels were in were that good we got an extra bowl of bread to scoop it up! Lamb special and veg was my main and my partner had the steak sandwich, we forgoes to take photos of these as they were that good we devoured them! Staff were great and attentive, cocktails were fabulous.

A perfect evening for a romantic birthday dinner

By SNG56 |

Booked here for my husband's birthday dinner based on reviews and menu. Arrived and decided to sit in the enclosed are outside. It was very warm, cozy and quiet. We started with cocktails from the list. Then shared the mushrooms in puff pastry which was exceptional. For mains we had the chicken and the daube provencal with a side of ratatouille. We also had a half bottle of Rhone wine. Everything was delicious and perfect for a cold rainy evening. For dessert my husband had the chocolate mousse which came with a candle. Service was wonderful throughout the meal. Our server, whose name we didn't get, was from Poland and was absolutely wonderful. For what we ate and drank, the price was more than reasonable. Highly recommend and we will return,

Cozy little jewel of a bistro/wine bar

By janeaustinNY |

Happened upon this by surprise! Nestled on a lovely quiet West Village street, it has a great little menu, charming servers and very fair prices. Seems to attract a youngish crowd; very lively, also fairly noisy but the well prepared cuisine and pleasant ambience makes up for it. Portions are modest but really sufficient-food rich, nicely garnished. Enjoyed a delicious charcuterie platter. Chose a Fourme d’Ambert blue, a country pate, and a tasty jambon de Bayonne. Lovely garnitures. My guest swooned over the blue! A healthy portion of chicken stuffed with mushrooms and served with sautéed veggies and salad on top was rewarding. The sea scallops (two plump ones) were nestled on mashed potato with green beans. Wines are varied and some are unusual, not to the French but to some in NY- like a sancerre rouge! Dimly lit with very close seating, some at shared tables , may not be for everyone. But enjoyable. We were told that from Wed.-Sat, reservations are a must!

Cool place in the village

Fabulous

This is a gorgeous little restaurant. We went twice while on our holiday in NY. We didn't make a reservation on the first visit, the food was delicious and great service although the wine is on the pricey side. Second visit we made a reservation and I'm glad we did, this place fills up quickly. We were there during happy hour and we're able to order a taster of different wines which was good value. Again the food was delicious and I highly recommend this place and definitely book a reservation to guarantee a table.

Such a great place

By Tania |

Fantastic christmas lunch. Christmas far from home isn't always cheerful, but this place really made our day. They were so welcoming, they actually asked a group to change tables and moved the tables around in order to make room for us. All waiters were really friendly and warm. The food was perfect.

What a find!

By Lisamarie C |

Ate here tonight with another couple and had such a wonderful experience. I knew it was going to be a good night when I asked out server her name and in return she asked us ours and then called us by name all night. Lucy was truly an outstanding server; drinks came out almost instantaneously, she recommended perfect wines for both me and my husband, she was so attentive all night, and just an adorable human!! Oh.. the food? Just delicious. The mussels were tender and floating in an almost creamy sauce. My husband’s lamb shank melted in your mouth. And my scallops over sweet potatoes will be what I order on my next visit! Such a great first visit.. can’t wait to come back!

a very nice French restaurant in the West Village.

By Marc Levy |

Great for a casual diner, the food is really good, the service is great, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is delightful.

The kitchen and service are always outstanding!

Ever since we discovered the amazing food at St. Tropez my husband and I have been returning for lunchs and dinners. The restaurant used to be so cramped and loud before, but due to Covid, they have wonderful outdoor space, and it's been even better! we highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!

Awesome

By FNANY |

St Tropez is such a great addition to the west village. Inspired by southern French cuisine, the place looks like an old French farm but oozes with energy you would find in a trendy Parisian restaurant. The food is excellent, from the scallops to the garlic scampi, the beef stew, the pate or the apple pie, you cannot go wrong. The place is well priced and the service excellent. What can I say, it is simply awesome.

Just Like France - at least for the service

By Annabella G |

Have you ever been to France and had that experience that my old French teacher used to refer to as "cochon payeur" (basically, you pig of a customer)? Here you have it. We had reservations for 4 for a Saturday evening at 5:45, very early by NYC standards. I wasn't notified of a slew of rules when I made the reservation but several started popping up as text messages 30 minutes before arrival. I arrived first, one other person was a few blocks away walking, and another couple texted that they were in their Lyft and arriving in 5, so they sat me. At a communal table with 2 people on the end. We're a group of 4 adults, with two men over 6 feet at a table that would hardly be suitable for a kindergarten group. Being so early the place was still pretty empty and even so the noise was deafening. After a few minutes a different waitress came to tell me that we'd be moved to a high top table (unless the tall men in my group, I am only 5 feet and can't enjoy a nice meal at a high top) adjacent to the bar. I was also informed that we'd have to leave in 75 minutes and that a large party was coming. The menu looked great. The prices seem fair, and the food reviews were great. But I wouldn't know. It all worked out because we went next door to the Black Derby, who took us with out a reservation and provided delicious food and great service.

Welcoming ambiance. Delicious food. Relaxed, interesting vibe

I love this place. On both occasions I found it welcoming and gracious. The food was outstanding. I still haven't forgotten the creme brûlée. Perfectly situated on one of the most charming streets in the West Village.

Little Provence in New York

The atmosphere is cozy and so Provence like even have Cassis blanc wine by the glass! The menu is great with typical provence dishes and we specially loved fresh oysters and mushroom risotto.

Great Little Find In New York

By gedfab |

Great little find restaurant in New York, right off the beaten track, but definitely worth the visit. The restaurant was very well decked out, with a great lively atmosphere that wasn't intrusive and the service was spot on, staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was very, very good. Can recommend the Salmon fillet, and the Poulet looked (and tasted) amazing. All in all a good selection of food, cooked and presented well, good size portions. and a good price. Definitely worth a visit

Highly recommend

Amazing food and the best lamb I've ever had. Friendly and welcoming staff, quick service and beautifully arranged patio which creates cozy atmosphere! Will be back!

GREAT vibe and dinner

By alwayssunnyhere |

Travelling solo for dinner after a long day and was referred to St. Tropez. Sat at the bar and ordered the Kale Salad (the BEST I've ever had and also ordered a fish dinner which was also lovely). This quaint hidden gem was packed! 99% women, which was interesting. If you're looking for wine, this is your place. I wanted a Kettle One martini and they don't serve liquor...just beer and wine - that was disappointing!

Great Food & Service at very reasonable prices

By NickLCFC |

This is a bustling French restaurant which is clearly very popular. Very simple menu with starters & mains all priced the same except for a few specials. The food is excellent and delicately flavoured. The retaurant is small so tables are very close together and they make the best use of the space by seating couples on stools sitting on window tables. Only downside was my seat which was right by the entrance door so every time somone went in or out, I got an icy blast. I was going to give it 4 stars because of this but that would have been unfair as the food was so good. Also we were given a glass of complimentary champagne each because of where we sat. Bill came to $111 for 3 courses + 2 courses and half a bottle of wine. Very good for New York. YOu ned to book and make sure you dont get the table by the door!

Perfect

Charming bistro with wonderful staff and delicious food. We called in for lunch while in the village and it was delightful. We had the lunch special, which was $19 for an entree and a glass of wine. Amazing value. Truffle Mac n Cheese was so yummy. Service was super friendly. Highly recommend

delicious lunch formule

By NadiaAlex |

We really loved this small and cozy restaurant. I had scallops, my husband had angus beef stew and everything was so good! The lunch formule includes a glass of wine for U$1 more, so the total price is U$19. We had chocolate mousse for dessert and it was fabulous as well. A place to come back over and over again.

Lovely!

By misopiso88 |

As a vegetarian, I don't usually frequent French restaurants because all the good dishes include meat but friends of mine wanted to try St. Tropez so we went. Wine was amazing and there were a couple items (like mac and cheese) I could order. All in all, a great night!

Very good, with one MAJOR flaw....

By Hobokenite |

The food and service are excellent (and Ali is a great waiter!) However, their seats are horribly uncomfortable... Their website photos show them well; your basically sitting on a thick piece of solid wood, which greatly distracts from the dining experience. Everyone in our party commented how incredibly uncomfortable they are. (The restaurant is very popular, so maybe it's intentional to not have people stay long / flip the table as quickly as possible?) As ridiculous as this sounds, bring a cushion or plan to sit on your coat; your ass with thank you for doing so!

Small charming place with amazing food

By RayR |

I loved this place! Our waiter was friendly and helpful (we had a reservation for 4 but showed up with 5 - and despite the fact that they were packed - he worked to accommodate us - without a hint of attitude - he just went to work to make it happen). We ordered several dishes and shared - and all were delicious. Their oysters were fresh and juicy, their octopus was perfectly done, and their scallops were outstanding. I will definitely return (particularly during happy hour when they apparently have $1 oysters).

Great find

By Marea S |

Stumbled into this great restaurant for early dinner. So lucky we did. The best steak I’ve had in years(hanger steak).

Holiday lucky find. Just wandering the streets and found this wonderful restaurant. Congratulations to all involved.

By John M |

Yes the place was fantastic food, wine but the staff and location cannot be beaten. The waiter even picked our country of origin based on pronunciation of one word. That is experience. Over the years I have been to many restaurants but to just stumble upon this place when their neighbours so rude to us. Well done everyone highly recommended

Wonderful French Lunch on the heart of West Village

Amazing Al Fresco Lunch at this wonderful French restaurant with delicious French classics and more. Lovely ambiance and great service

Easy cocktail stop, nice atmosphere

By brmusicman |

We had a dinner reservation elsewhere in the neighborhood and stopped in before that meal for a drink and bite. We found seats at the (small) bar. Nice, convivial, tight atmosphere--very West Village, very New York. Bartender was welcoming and friendly. We both ordered classic cocktails. They were ample! I've had better martinis, but it wasn't bad. An old fashioned was a little on the sweet side, but still acceptable. We ordered a half dozen oysters. They were served with a smile. Again...acceptable, but not great. Can't really comment on the full meal here. We left having enjoyed our visit but not necessarily blown away. Would probably go back.

Gem in the Village

By YoYo8313 |

OMG. I cannot believe this was my first time here. It is soooo good and so adorable. I LOVE French restaurants and i think this may be my new favorite one I've been to so far in NYC. They have locations in West Village and SoHo. The service and food were top notch, can't wait to go back again.

Must go!

By federicagiacometti |

I have been there few times by now and never been disappointed. The staff is always welcoming and attent, and the food... well the food is just delicious. I sit at the big windows, enjoying the view of the neighborhood together with scallops (my favorite) and a glass of red. Can't ask for more!

A Gem of Many Gems

By FoJ4life |

I have written a number of reviews for places all around NYC and I struggle with the right words to describe this place. From the service to the ambiance to the food, this place is perfect for business meetings, drinks and appetizers with friends, or a first date destination. I went with two colleagues from work and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. By the way, you will not beat the price point really anywhere in NYC. Thank you, Chef Gérald, Yohann, and your team, for having the vision to create another element that makes the West Village a live and happening spot. I look forward to my next (of many) time at Saint Tropez Wine Bar.

Saturday evening

By OG N |

The place was a bit noisy because of an event that was taking place. And I was not really happy about it. But I need to note that as soon as I tried the very first piece of my dish I forgot about everything. It was so very tasty, just perfect. And everyone is so sweet and nice and attentive. You’re doing great. I wish you good luck!!!!

West Village Stalwart but take care not to lose the charm

By Manish W |

Romantic yet buzzy West Village stalwart. The servers are very good, friendly and add to the atmosphere. The food is good we went for the escargot, cheeseboard and sea bass (very good), natural flavours where the ingredients do the talking. The only negative was the maitre’d. She lacked the panache of a maitre’d at a French restaurant and especially one in New York. There is no room for a charmless spirit to let the team down.

Lovely cosy place

By Thomas M |

Spent one night with my friends. Really lovely cosy place, with warm atmosphere and excellent menù. We shared several dishes including a very nice and tasty risotto. Very nice selection of desserts and wine too. Highly recommended

C'est merveilleux... and who knew?

I found this jewel while exploring The West Village. From the welcome at the door to the final morsel of brunch, it was an extraordinary experience. Service and ambience make it a perfect place work a weekend brunch or meeting friends. It is very popular, so reservations are advisable and certainly a must visit again. Thanks to our server Alondra for brightening up the day with you attention to detail..

A very warm welcome, with excellent dishes, I recommend 100 times! The waiter was adorable, even managed to speak a few words of French
