Got my whole order wrong. Never brought my shake. My husband was missing his bacon. Very rushed. Just not comfortable.

Gem of a Dinner

By Steve D |

We found Star on 18 by pure chance on the way to the high line. We were a family of six to senior two young children and my wife. The cafe is just by the big bus stop for the highline. The food and friendly staff are worth a pit stop. Lovely food and killer chips!!! Big thumbs up.

Very good worth a visit

By John M |

Very good worth a visit, I had a great chicken Gyro wrap, very tasty and filling, great coffee too. Very fast service.

A good ol' fashioned diner

By Sandra S |

An authentic diner!! Tasty food, cold beer and friendly staff, what more could you ask for? We came across this by accident, we were walking the High Line when we saw it, and though why not? It was lunch time, so it was packed, but we waited a few minutes and got a table. Would definitely recommend!!

Great little diner, lovely staff, big portions - just what you need in a diner!

By CotswoldMummy |

We always come here when we visit NYC. Typical diner food and we visit for breakfast so cannot comment on other meal options. Great if you are walking the High Line and in really nice location. Lovely staff, quick service, decent price and good selection. Excellent pancakes and French toast. Dinerliciious!

Fantastic little diner

By Alistair41 |

Stopped for lunch here one day. Very authentic New York Diner. Very busy when we arrived but soon settled again. Great menu with something for everyone and also very good prices. Staff were rushed but did it all with a smile. Would definitely recommend.

Great food and wonderful service

By William K |

Great place for breakfast, near our hotel. Very good food and fantastic hospitality. Our server was very friendly and really made us feel at home. Whether you are a regular or a first-time customer, you are treated like family. Prices are very reasonable, especially for NYC. We will be back!

Delightful diner with great food

By Marjo H |

Not being familiar with Diner etiquette the staff put us at ease - great salad, huge serve at very affordable prices. A little oasis amongst pricey alternatives near the Whitney.

Huge Portions and Menu!

By nathan b |

We visited this restaurant because it was close to Skyline Park. The menu was huge with a large variety to choose from. We each ordered a special which came with soup, the meal, and also homemade pudding for $15! We were super impressed and would highly recommend.

Delicious and large portions!

By DDrabbit1986 |

Absolutely excellent service and delicious food! Very large portions. I couldn't finish all of mine even though I wanted to. I had a Greek chicken sandwich platter. It came with Greek salad and chips. It was all lovely. My husband had the chicken noodle soup which was delicious and a lamb kofta. He ate all of his and tried to eat mine. We initially went in for hot chocolates before doing the hi line but when we saw inside we decided to eat there. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's definitely worth eating here. The man brought over glasses of water without asking which we thought was a nice touch. That has never happened in a UK restaurant that I've been to, you normally have to ask and even remind them sometimes.

Great little diner with hot tea the way it should be!

By FMH265 |

Second visit to this diner (first time was 2017). If you are walking the High Line, you can’t really miss seeing this diner as it’s painted bright yellow. Food is very good - we tried a burger, full breakfast, French toast, pancakes etc. Service is friendly and quick. Bonus..... I finally found a cup of hot tea that was properly hot (ie boiled not just hot water) with MILK, none of that half and half stuff that really doesn’t work with tea. Yay - I’m happy!!

Amazing

By Trudi sheppard |

A little gem that nobody knows about. Amazing coffee that never went empty. If you’re hungry this is definitely the place to go. Will keep you going for a long day in New York The food is delicious the best we had in 5 days. We took a detour to go for breakfast. If we come again will be definitely making a trip again

Breakfast to set you up for the day!

By WMB |

Whilst staying in New York, we wanted to have a diner breakfast, for the experience. Having read some reviews, we headed to Star on 18 and weren't disappointed. I had the big breakfast (just under $12) and my wife had eggs, bacons, pancakes. The only reason I'm not giving a score of five is that the whites of the eggs on my meal were slightly undercooked (whites still a little gelatinous) although this may be me being pedantic as I did order them sunny side up, so should maybe have gone for over easy instead). I'm a biggish guy (6 foot 2 and about 17 stone) but by the time I had finished the big breakfast I was stuffed - I don't think I ate again until about 8pm. To make it clear - there was so much of the food it was served on two large oval plates; one for the bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes and another for the two saucer-sized, quarter inch thick pancakes. I was a bit shocked at the relative cost of eating out in NY compared to the UK, but of the places we visited to eat, I certainly felt this was good value and struck a good balance of being smart but real world - not overdone with chrome or schmaltzy gimmicks. This is probably borne out by the fact that locals were also eating there, which I took to be a good sign! It is also very convenient for Chelsea Market and the Highline, the former of which is handy for a walk to burn off some calories!

An unexpected find

By Mike N |

My wife and I came to this unassuming neighborhood dinner by chance after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings at a great price (pie included!). Generous portions!

Classic diner near the High Line

By REJ62 |

Lovely old school diner on the corner of 18th St and 10th Ave, just off the High Line about two-thirds of the way down. Friendly, efficient service and decent food with all the diner classics!

Delicious Brunch at affordable $

By Dian N |

We loved our Saturday Brunch here ! Delicious , fresh & piping hot ! I had the Greek Omelette. It came with tea, home fries , toast & a very generous Mimosa. Service was quick & friendly. Couldn't ask for anything better !

Great traditional dinder

By southmouth |

We popped in here one afternoon to escape the rain when we were doing the High Line. It's a traditional NYC diner, with booths inside. Good menu, although we only stopped by for a couple of beers and a cheese cake. The cheese cake took a while to come out, but the rest of the service was good and cheery. We'd definitely stop by again if we were in the area.

Takeout

By Mr. President |

Ordered takeout it was average! It's great because the prices are reasonable and it's close to the highline. Don't go with huge expectations!

Love the food.

By SaintM |

i extremely love the food my only issue is my waiting time but other than that,, def great experience!!!!

Authentic New York!

By Graceruth |

This little diner is perfect for a day trip to the high line! We loved it and visited many times during our time in New York! The sandwiches and subs are great! Hot cup of coffee, great staff! Nothing more perfect than a hot coffee in a great atmosphere.

American Diner

By brfc123 |

This is what American diners should be like, big portion size, decent prices. Must be a good place as all the local workmen where there at lunchtime. Great find.

Spectacular place stopped in time

By Sebastian CR |

Spectacular place and delicious food. He seems stopped in time, holding his own against the big cards and franchises. The Mexican waiter who has worked there for years is luxurious!

Great diner food!

By tmazionsmith |

Was here on a busy Saturday. Service was a bit slow, but the food was amazing! I ordered the souvlaki; there was so much that it was spilling over the plate. I ate every bit and wasn't sorry. It doesn't hurt that it's right across from the High Line - I walked off a little bit of what I ate!

Old School Diner! You'll love it!

By Mike P |

Old School diner you will love it. The entrees are amazing. I had Eggs Benedict and it was awesome. Coffee, juice, all good choices.. portions are HUGE! Come hungry for sure. Need your Vacc card for sure or they wont serve you! :D

Close to the High Line

By Julie T |

Saw this diner as I was walking the High Line south and was determined to a way to it rather then eat on the High Line itself. A diner just like you find in a small town. Food was excellent; serves were helpful and friendly.

breakfast

By Antonia L |

Lousy service. Bad management. Food wasn't hot. I don't know what my friends were thinking wanting to have breakfast here.

Reasonable prices

By SharonB231 |

Prices here were very reasonable. Portions are large. Restaurant is small and not fancy. Food was great.

Great place to stop off from the High Line

By Simbar29 |

A good diner to halt your peaceful walk on the marvellous High Line at 18th & 10 Av. We had pancakes and bacon. The staff were really friendly

BAD SERVICE

By DawnandJoey |

Got my whole order wrong. Never brought my shake. My husband was missing his bacon. Very rushed. Just not comfortable.

Excellent Food and Service

By Tracey R |

We had been walking the high line and left to pick up the open tour bus, this deli was right by the stop so we stopped for lunch. It was a hot day and as soon as we were seated the waiter greeted us with glasses of complimentary iced water. The menu was extensive and prices very reasonable, some of dishes were meditteranean as well as traditional American fare. The food was excellent I had a Greek salad which was fresh, my husband and boys had gyros which was fab, all of the portions were large and we struggled to finish, but not because of the quality. Excellent service, water was frequently topped up, friendly staff. Worth a visit.

Refreshing after the pretentious chelsea markets

By Jo M |

Great little diner, fab coffee and good service. After wandering in Chelsea markets and seeing over priced produce claiming to be artisan this is a refreshing little place!

This restaurant is typical and worth discovering.

By coloclaude |

Very good restaurant to discover. The dishes are revisited by the chef. It's very good and friendly. The staff is welcoming. The prices are correct. Thank you for your meal.

Greek Diner

By fairgal |

Was one of the few places open for breakfast on a Saturday morning. A typical greek diner, well prepared good coffee, reasonable prices. Lots of choices. An extra star for location.

Great cheap food!

By Mr. President |

Wonderful little place to eat and has cheap food. The service was great! I have to admit this was a classic diner right next to the high line! Great location!

Perfect diner for breakfast!

By Hanne S |

We wanted the diner-breakfast! And got it! Insane large portions, polite and nice staff, good coffe, fresh juice! Got the recommendation from a securityguard at Chelsea Marked.

Amazing food ... not just your average diner!

By ddrennon1 |

Great food, huge menu, and great service. Very reasonable prices. We stayed in a hotel just 2 blocks away and ate several times at the Star, not just because it was close but because it was sooo good and has a comfortable atmosphere.

Classic diner

By pete6689 |

A great all-american classic diner. Serves a mean breakfast. Can only recommend it - I'm definitely coming back for more breakfast.

Good Food if walking the High Line in New York

By rebel187 |

After a walk along the High Line we spotted this diner and went down there to have brunch. Welcoming and not huge but food was really good. My partner had the Sonic Breakfast Wrap and I had the 7 grain Avocado Toast. Both were super tasty and this is not a costly diner.

A saviour on the High Line

By Gordon B |

There we were, walking along the High Line, cold but in brilliant sunshine, when, as old people do, you need a nice warm drink. Looking over the edge of the High Line what do we spot, but the Star on 18. So off we go, almost dancing with delight (and relief!) They do all sorts of typical US Diner food, but all we needed was a nice, big, mug of coffee. Fifteen minutes later, totally rejuvanated (in more ways than one!) and we continued our walk. A great interlude in a lovely day.

Lovely example of an NY diner

By AnotherEnglishman |

Spotted this place from the High Line (which is a must do experience) and stopped for lunch next day after a walk up the waterside from the World Trade Center. Good Greek/American menu, everything cooked fresh, decent portions and great service would have won this place a high score, but add its authenticity and its style and it just shines. Go walk the High Line, and stop here for lunch. You will not be disappointed.

Unfriendly

By Antonia L |

Place is an Old Fashioned Diner which is why we went in. But the people that manage it ruin the experience. Everyone that works there is miserable.

Great place for lunch after gallery hopping in Chelsea

By zzeke |

Stopped for lunch after spending the morning walking through Chelsea visiting the art galleries. Was not disappointed, and would look for this place again. Classic diner fare done very well.

Authentic fast food in the heart of NYC

By Nicola |

Authentic American fast food, great food and great service, super convenient area if you're around for tourism. Much more honest prices than the nearby Chelsea Market

What a great little gem!

By Cocokell3 |

We were touring the area, High line and Chelsea Market. While food looked delicious in the Market, there is standing room only for eating your meal and that's just not our thing. So I found Star on 18 on Tripadvisor, right around the corner. We went inside and I can't say enough about how thrilled we were to find this place. Long, extensive menu with any type of food you can imagine. (Breakfast any time, Gyros, Pasta, Burgers, Salads etc) And the prices were SO reasonable. It's a small place with counter service and a few booths. But our family of 5 ate there for about $60, including tip. (I had a gyro, greek salad and order of fries for $10.95 and it was too much food for me to finish!) If you are looking for a quiet little place to sit down and enjoy your meal, vs ordering from a counter and scurrying to find a place to stand to eat your food with the rest of your family, then this place is for you!

Great food, great staff

By Jackof |

Loved the sandwiches here, some of the best I've ever had, very good coffee for a dinner too. The staff are all very friendly and it's a nice place to sit before or after the high line, Highly recommended.

Authentic American breakfast diner

By Henrik I |

This is an authentic American Diner, where you can feel the daily pulse of the people living and working in NY. We went there three times during a week and had an excellent experience all three times, chatting a bit with the staff giving good hints for our visit. Well recommended!

Unexpected pleasure!

By jane p |

We came here by accident on our way to the High Line, we got a little lost and were really cold and hungry; we had stopped in at another hipster-looking place where they wanted £20 for a breakfast sandwich, so had left in a hurry before ordering and Star on 18 was on the next corner. It seemed like a traditional old school family run diner, Greek going by decor though the staff were mainly Hispanic and all really friendly and helpful and smiley. We got the big breakfast because we were so hungry, but were stunned by the scale of it! I've included a photo. We also ordered a jumbo bagel, which we managed to polish off as well (in our defence we hadnt eaten since lunch the previous day...) and everything came freshly cooked, piping hot and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend, especially for Brits who want a real yankee style breakast with crispy bacon, pancakes and eggs any way you order them :)

Great little diner

By Eimear C |

Had lunch here yesterday on a break from the wonderful Highline. Good food, friendly service, and clean toilets! I chose from the list of specials where the price included soup or bottomless coffee and the dessert of the day. All were very tasty and really big portions. A glass of very reasonable - tasting Sauvignon blanc was only $5 on top which would be good value anywhere but most especially so in NY where wine on restaurants is outrageously expensive.

Undercooked food, Poor service.

By Mark T |

I like visiting a diner for breakfast, the food is usually quick, basic, hearty, served quickly and with a smile. Not this place. Sausage undercooked, no, still raw in the middle, didn't eat it as I genuinely feared food poisoning. Eggs were ordered over easy (fried both sides) but these were a little on the 'snotty' side for my liking also, whites undercooked and the yolk membrane still very soft and undercooked. The service was also pretty slow, coffee refills are normally free flowing in diners but I had to repeatedly ask for a refill.

Great

By ssum |

Found this place after a stroll through crowded Chelsea Market. It's easily accessible from the High Line so makes a good break point. We enjoyed the diner style experience. The food was reasonably priced, large portions and tasty.

Last meal

By Stuart P |

We visited this diner having seen it whilst walking along the High Line. It can be accessed from the steps at 20th St. It was our last meal before returning to the airport and was one of the best offer a good range of traditional Italian/Greek food which was excellent value compared to the normal high profile restaurants around midtown and at nearby Chelsea market. This is a traditional diner with a small number of booths but good atmosphere and very willing staff.

The place to eat near the High Line

By thistle-do-nicely |

We were going to have coffee and a snack in Chelsea Market before going on to the High Line, but the prices were outrageous, even for NYC. We spotted workmen (yellow hard hats) from a building site going into this diner and thought we'd try it. Brilliant. Food was good. Service was great and so friendly. Definately the place to eat when walking the High Line, and it's close to the 17th Street access. And if you get a window seat on 18th you can have diner with Mother Teressa and Mahatma Gandi looking down from their mural.

Such a cute place

By Sezi_kirbz |

A cute true American diner perfect for international visitors to get the true diner experience. A massive menu including Greek dishes and all the usual diner classics like French toast, pancakes, meatloaf etc. Visit if you get chance

Good food good service

By Claire M |

Stopped by for breakfast this morning. We were at Chelsea Market at 7am. Everything was still closed. We walked up a few blocks to find breakfast. Nice diner. Kids and I had pancakes that were very good. Husband had the Western Omlette. He said was very good. Glad we came across this little gem.

Nice meal!

By Christiaan v |

Nice American eatery! We had a nice dinner. The price quality is excellent! The Spanish-speaking service was very nice!

Great budget and friendly breakfast

By Korbi |

We had a great time with delicious American food at this place! Perfect place when you wanna feel away from all the smoothie stuff in midtown!

Worst Reuben Ever

By Mardi S |

We were dropped here by our cab driver who recommended it, and it's very cute, very all American typical diner, so we thought yeah, why not? We've both been craving a really good Reuben, and where better than a traditional diner? Wrong. So, so wrong. We both ordered the Reuben with corned beef (I don't mind the pastrami ones, but I've had really good corned beef ones), mine with potato salad, my partner's with fries. Now, my experience of Reuben sandwiches is that they are normally served on rye, with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and mustard, and toasted so that the cheese is lovely and melted, the meat maybe a bit stringy but is tender, because it's been slow cooked. Delicious, right? These came out open, on very boring white bread, not hot, so the cheese was only melted a little bit on half of the meat. The sauerkraut underneath was fine, but it probably came out of a tin or jar. The mustard was in packets in the middle of the table, but the packets were impossible to open so we gave up. The meat was inedible. Completely inedible. I tried. But it was tough, rubbery, tasteless gristle. The knives could not saw through it. I chewed and chewed, but eventually spat it out into a napkin. The care factor of the staff was nil. I gave this place one star because the iced tea was good, and the potato salad was ok, but we do NOT recommend this diner.

Worth the visit

By Blake30 |

Great authentic diner. Huge menu, good food, very sensibly priced. A welcome break from some of the crazy NYC prices! Friendly and fast service. Small but tables turn over quickly if you have to wait.

A diner like you imagine

By Ben R |

First time in USA and keen to see diners like you see in movies. This is it. Spotted it from the Highline and descended for lunch. Felt like we were in a movie. Great food and great prices. Had Cuban deluxe burger. Partner had Disco fries in gravy and melted cheese. Third diner so far and my current fav. Great mural to look at outside as well

Brightest, Most Delicious, and Friendliest!

By VooDoo Kitty Knows |

We found this because we were walking the High Line and needed to to sit down and munch a bite. What a delightful little cafe! It is modest in price but tops in flavors and customer service. If we lived here, we would eat here a lot! The specialty coffees, lattes, are perfectly prepared and served, the pastries are not only easy on the eye but taste wonderful. Great portions and all basics are prepared with skill. They don't mess up on any of the details here. It is true that you can get delicious food in many cafes in NYC, but the customer service here is so much better than in many of those places. They treated us like friends, like regulars, even though we were tourists. A wonderful little cafe. Don't miss it. It doesn't stand out and brag with flash and dazzle: it is a little under the radar, understated. But it is on a lively corner, with plenty of real light coming in, and plenty of real, local patrons who love it, too.

Cracking breakfast

By Mike S |

Just what we needed before asking the highline and around Manhattan. Good quality food, plenty of it, and pleasant helpful staff.

Love this little diner

By evDesignInc |

Stumbled across this place after exiting the Highline. A great retro looking diner. Seems to be family-run but not sure. Service was excellent and the food delicious! Food comes fast. Excellent value for your money as well. I'm coming back here again!

Flowers painted on the windows are a nice touch

By Taughboyne |

We came here hungry after a morning gallery hopping and were seated immediately by a cheery waitress who was always available when we needed her. I had a cup of first class lentil soup, a tangy feta-cheese filled Mikonos omelet accompanied by meltingly soft warm pitas, and finished off with a small tub of rice pudding and cream. Delectable. My wife chose a BLT and rated it highly too. The clientele seemed to be mainly local folk grabbing a bite between shifts and they all looked happy. Convenient to the High Line if you want a change from yuppie style food but don't want to sacrifice solid quality and value. I'd be back in a heartbeat.

Best place to eat in NYC maybe the whole Universe

By 75 |

This place is absolutely superb. It looks a bit ramshackle from the outside but open the door and go inside and you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome, amazing food and adorable prices. This is an authentic American diner and you simply have to visit

Quick snack while gallery walking in Chelsea

By ToadHillFosterRI |

Calamari perfectly fried in a light batter- as delicious as any I've ever had. Better than any fancy restaurant. Lots of tentacles!

Nice surprise at the bend of a street

By Antoine P |

We stopped by chance at this dinner... excellent surprise both by the typical decor and the Mood. And the milkshakes are excellent!

Best find ever!!

By Karen A |

Truly experience the American diner experience here Service - tick, Enormous menu - tick, Unlimited coffee - tick. We still talk about this place a year after we visited!!❤️

Great diner experience - exactly as you expect

By lainyb007 |

Meal was a burger and delicious. Big, fat chips. Hot, fresh food that arrived quickly. Great location just off the High Line and before you get to Meatpacking District where there are lots of (more expensive) restaurants. Meal for 2 with drinks and including tip was under 30 dollars.

Top notch diner

By cl m |

Stopped in for breakfast and if we're in the vicinity again, wld rush back! Lovely friendly service with free tea and coffee refill. Eggs perfect with fried potatoes and lovely sausages. All for less than $20 for two, perfect😉 full alcohol licence

Inexpensive Diner Food Close to the High Line

By Gershwin12 |

On our way to Chelsea Pier for an early morning boat excursion and walk on the beautiful High Line we thought it would be an easy task to find an inexpensive egg sammy and a cup of coffee. Well, this proved to be more difficult than we had anticipated; there were no cheap-eats open in the neighborhood on this early Sunday morning. However, we found Star on 18. A basic no frills diner, 1/2 block from an entrance to the High Line and a 5 minute walk to the pier. Service was friendly and efficient. We had delicious take out, made to order egg sandwiches and two Ice coffee's for about $16. Although we only had breakfast, this place offers sit down breakfast, lunch and dinner including alcoholic and no non-alcoholic beverages. The extensive menu listed traditional diner food as well as vegetarian,Greek, Italian and Latina specialties and desserts.

Quaint and inviting little diner , good food and service!

By Annick R |

Me and my boyfriend found this place by accident, just came out of a shop in the area and were walking back toward the bus stop and saw this place. This appealed to us since it was around 7:30 on a Saturday night and it was affordable (for that part of town) and convenient. The food was much better than I expected. I ordered a breakfast combo (waffle, scrambled eggs, bacon) and my boyfriend order spaghetti and meatballs, (his was a very generous portion) Both of our servings were generous and tasty. Will definitely go there again. Recommended!

Nice diner

By NYCleveland |

A cozy little diner just steps from the High Line. The food is typical diner fare, and quite tasty. The rice pudding is a must.

Cheap. Bland.

By Alex K |

The only outstanding quality of the place is their price range :) Pretty much every other restaurant in the area is much more upscale in terms of price. It seems to be popular among people working in the area, good option for regular non-expensive lunch. Usual diner menu, quite extensive, 3-4 light beers and a few table wines. I didn't have guts to try their burgers and ordered "safe option" - chicken over apple sauce or something like that. Half of a chicken came with Manhattan clam chowder, mashed potato and string beans. Pretty good portion for 2 I'd say. But that's it. It was all almost tasteless. My dog was happy though when I brought that chicken home ;) And service is definitely sub-par. Overall I'd say this was the worst traditional diner I've been so far.

Superb breakfast.

By Ian G |

Spotted this from the Highline whilst desperately seeking breakfast early on a Sunday morning. Can't believe there are not more reviews for this place right next to Chelsea Market. Traditional diner with large portions and reasonable prices and incidentally it tastes amazing.

Good old fashioned diner breakfast

By Kirsy1 |

We had late breakfast here before heading into High Line (which is right across the street). Had California omelet and hubby had pancakes and eggs/bacon. All were good.

Old school diner

By Penny H |

Great diner with booths etc. Pancakes were perfect, kids really enjoyed it. Good choice for breakfast in Meatpacking District. Good service.

Good solid breakfast & brunch

By nomadzenn |

Had the eggs benedict and my friend had the "alpine" omelet. Both were nicely done - the eggs benedict came with just-right eggs - gooey egg yolk emerges when you cut them. Nice. The hash that came with the eggs was a little tasteless and could have done with more crispiness. Overall - good service and great location for the Highline.

Nice little neighborhood diner.

By jeannine130 |

After walking the HIgh Line we stopped in for a lite bite. The atmosphere was classic old fashioned diner, the service was friendly and nice. I had the spinach pie and greek salad. My friend had breakfast. Both our meals were great! Very nice and reasonably priced for a quick bite in NYC.

Great Breakfast

By Megbachman |

Delicious eggs, extensive menu, kind server - so fortunate to find the open diner on Easter Sunday! Coffee is delicious too!

Just okay...

By LInda A |

Stopped here for lunch before going up onto the Highline. The grilled cheese was good but my bleu cheese burger was very dry with the meat apparently a pre-processed patty with a decent amount of cheese on it but nothing else besides the bun. I tried adding ketchup and coleslaw to it but it didn't help much. I'm not terribly picky about my food but ended up leaving most of it. The other bummer was that the waitress just didn't seem to care if we were there or not and although she did the basics of her job, a slightly more welcoming attitude would have made a big difference. In the end... just okay but wouldn't recommend or return.

Great American Diner - try the waffles!

By Melissa M |

After visiting the skyline we stumbled past this lovely American Diner. The menu is very extensive and impressive catering for every taste. But do try the waffles!

Love this diner!

By MJoJ |

We've been enjoying breakfast at this diner for years. The service, food and fair prices make it a must when in Chelsea. All three great qualities make Star on 18 a rare find in this neighborhood.

Vintage, classic diner

By TheDivingFoodie |

We came here for breakfast staying in a nearby hotel, it was lovely. Friendly staff, good choice of food, fantastic bagels and decent coffee, fair prices. Inside it's really nice too, vintage.

Good food

By jlcchew |

A lovely diner serving good classic diner food. We went for breakfast as tourists and it was nice to be there with locals! Great spot to then visit The High Line.

American restaurant

By Jose V.A. |

Good service, huge portions, good price for NY, perfect to get some energy before doing the walk of all High Line!

Perfect ambience for people who are not from the USA and very delicious again

By Fin H |

We only had one cake (Homemade New York Cheesecake) the ambience like in the movie nice American Diner, this time we had to wait when we came in so Completely full house.

Unprofessional

By Twilight360 |

I visited the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. When I came in I sat at the bar and the waitress first of did not greet me. She walked by me several times and did not ask me if I needed help. Finally the waiter from behind the bar asked me was anyone helping me I said no. I then asked him for a turkey and roast beef sandwich. He had the nerve to tell me don't you know that turkey and roast beef are two different meats. I said to him yes. He then said well its gonna cost about 10 dollars. I then said just make the sandwich. Mean while a white man came in and the waitress immediately asked him if he needed help. Overall my experience was horrible I would not recommend this dinner until the staff get some manners!!!

Good food cheap!

By Sandra T |

we had a great breakfast there! the Challa french toast was awesome

Delicious, traditional diner

By easyveysey |

Traditional, delicious diner near the High Line. Friendly staff and great food I would recommend it highly. Good value too. Note to European travellers- even when places in NYC are listed as “Cash Only” there is usually an ATM on site (as in this case.

Walk the High Line, Stop for lunch, walk back

By AnotherEnglishman |

I’ve eaten here before, and gave it a great review then. Now a few years later, stopped here again and it’s just the same. Large portions, masses of choice, low prices, this place feels like a New York diner ought to feel. You place your order, then hear it yelled to the kitchen. It turns up quickly, right. I had a blue cheese burger and fries. You’ll never eat in a McDonalds after eating here, the disappointment would be too much. Pay at the counter, then walk off a few calories on the High Line. This is not haute cuisine- Jacob Rees-Mogg would turn in his grave (he’s not dead, he’s an Etonian vampire) Great place, love it.

Breakfast before the Highline.

By Fivexsteve |

We popped into the Star on 18 for breakfast. We found it close to the Highline which we were walking. We had a warm welcome, and good service. There was plenty of variety on the menu. We had the house breakfast and coffee, both of which were good.

Great find on 18th St.

By 348Ricardo |

Very friendly, very quick, and very good! We went for breakfast but found they have an extensive and interesting menu for all-day dining. Kudos to Eli!

Just a minute walk from an exit of the High Line. This diner is GREAT for experiencing the REAL American feeling. Good food and great Value. Friendly people and very good service. Anything you want, it goes! I'd go there again and again.

Good Food, Excellent Deal

My daughter and I split the fried chicken for lunch. It was good but not great. The diner, including the bathroom, is very clean and everyone who worked here was friendly. The windows look out on some great graffiti art and it's just steps away from Chelsea Market. Do your wallet a favor and eat here instead.

Great Local Diner

We were looking for a 'proper' breakfast diner and this had everything that we wanted. It looks the part, inside and out, the staff are friendly and the menu does exactly what it should do - straightforward, sensibly priced and well made food. We took our kids (we're from the UK and were on vacation) who thought they'd landed in the middle of a film set. If you're looking for decent, good value food and friendly helpful service then Star on 18 is great.

Great breakfast during our walk on the Highline.

While walking the Highline this morning we decided we wanted to find a bite to eat. from the Highline we spotted this cute little place on a corner in Chelsea. What a find! I ordered french toast and my wife had eggs. Both meals were delicious and reasonably priced. After an enjoyable half hour eating breakfast and drinking coffee we finished our Highline walk. I will definitely be returning there asap!

A wonderful experience

From the Highline we found this diner. SO glad we did. The menu was nice, the food we ordered was DELICIOUS & the service efficient & friendly. Our waitress was cordial with regulars & new customers. We had Greek omelet, home fries, coffee, tea & sesame bagel with lox & cream cheese. All SO GOOD. HIGHLY recommend.

Perfect little diner

Authentic diner. Lucky find when walking the high line and came down at 18th street. Really friendly staff and great food. I had quesadillas and my son the burger. Both with fries. Coffee was topped up regularly and my son had a milkshake which was great. Reasonable prices too.

Good diner near High Line

By louisburtoncrane |

I eat here regularly after working out at nearby Chelsea Piers. It’s a classic NYC diner. You don’t go here for haute cuisine. You go here to eat simple food that’s cooked on premises for and is fairly cheap. Today, for example, my fiancée & I had spinach salad, Caesar salad with gyro, soft drink for $32, tax & tip included. Like any NYC diner, the menu is extensive. Star 18 even has a liquor license. At 10th Avenue and 18th Street, it’s near the High Line, about at the half way point. It’s a good place to stop for lunch. It’s usually not crowded.

It’s a great place to eat classic American food , and the customer is pretty good. I highly recommend eating their eggs Benedict which is one favor American diner food ever. It’s a great location in Chelsea where you will be close to many things including the High line. Amazing food anyone visit New York City to should come eat here.
