Chai here is atrocious.

By Manoc J |

My friends and I tried all their chai options, iced chai, iced dirty chai, hot dirty chai. Wow. Not in a good way. This chai is horrible. Really watery, zero taste of real chai and the coffee doesn’t even make up for the flavor it lacks. Beautiful setup and ambiance but a horrible chai makes everything fall short. Oh, and I paid $8.00 for it. Never coming back.

Superb Test

By Monique Cooper |

I highly recommend this place! They serve fantastic and delicious dishes at affordable prices. Staffs are very kind and well-trained and they provide a very good service. Great spot and great ambiance. When it comes to their dish, try their super juicy chicken! You will absolutely love it!

I dream about this place

By heidi_little2 |

We took a trip from Orlando, FL and stumbled across this place. My daughter, 16 years, was craving a hot cocoa. We got the Nutella hot cocoa and a mini chocolate desert and OMG amazing! We were only in NYC a week (Midtown at that) and we had to go back to this secret gem before we left. It's quaint and I felt like we were among family as we sat in there and chatted with locals. The group was so diverse (AWESOME!). We have been back in FL 7 months and dream of this place. It's mid July in Florida and I am craving the Nutella hot cocoa from Blue Stripes. If they came to Lake Nona in Orlando, my life would be complete!!!

cacao!

By Kai C |

I loved this place. The cacao is done expertly and competently, as if you were in Yucatan, and presented beautifully as if you were in Kyoto. Friendly, inviting atmosphere and an idiosyncratic place.

Amazing Drinking Chocolate!!

By Caroline McKeldin Wayner |

If you love drinking chocolate, then you must come here. They have all different kinds of drinking chocolate, both hot and cold. I got the super dark, and it was fabulous. They treat chocolate as medicine!

Don't know what you are missing.

Why is this place great? Unique among coffee shops due to their super fresh cacao drizzled on delicious cakes and even doughnuts. Absolutely sublime. Owner very pleasant and accommodating. Clean and very pretty environment. Loved the interior design, especially the gorgeous front door and window. Who thinks of design when going for coffee? A real treat. Can't wait to return.

Best Birthday Celebration

By Rachel M |

I found this dessert shop on Instagram and it did not disappoint. Everything is chocolate. It is the best thing ever. Seating is limited. The local college kids use this place like a coffee shop to do homework, so it can get crowded. The menu can be a little confusing, but so worth the visit

Amazing coffee

By Ck1ck |

Decided to enter this small coffee shop. Glad I did!!! Great ambience met by a friendly barista Yeniv. My Latte and Almond pastry 🥐 delicious. I enjoyed the music selection. definitely will return and would recommend to anyone who is in the union square area and would like to have a warm cup of coffee.

Max is BACK

By PriusGirlVA |

This place is fabulous!! It is owned and run by Max Brenner, who started the huge chocolate restaurant named after him that was later bought out. We did not know the back story until after we ate at Max Brenner, and to be honest I felt a bit guilty for eating there! The company who bought him out sounds like they royally screwed him over ☹ . But he appears to have bounced back, because Blue Stripes is awesome. It has a great look/feel/vibe. There is a counter for laptop use (with convenient plug-ins) and the rest of the space is laptop free. The décor is warm, funky, and welcoming. The signage is really good, too. We were surprised and pleased that Max himself was working on the day we went. It felt like we were in the presence of a celebrity (although he did not give any airs of being fancy or famous). The staff were all friendly and offered guests tastes of what I think they called “Chocolate Cloud” – it tasted like a liquid chocolate mousse in a glass. Yum! It took forever to choose what to order because every choice sounded delicious, but we settled on a cacao juice with coconut and lime and a pancake sandwich with passionfruit and white chocolate. We were very happy with everything! The juice was a unique taste that delighted our palates. And the pancake sandwich was so full of different tastes that I felt I needed to eat it slowly to make sure to savor every bite. We will head back to Blue Stripes next time we are in NYC – there are lots of other things on the menu that we need to taste (next up will be the chili cacao juice!).

Absolutely delicious

The perfect place for chocoholics and one's that are about to be after visiting here! A huge variety for vegans too!

Chocolate cravings

By Garima Gautam |

If you’re looking for a go to chocolate spot in the city ,then look no further. Blue stripes is owned by the same person as Max Brenner. Their menu is extensive and boasts of high quality rich chocolate desserts. The place was crowded but the ambience was friendly. What we got - 1. Iced Nutella foam - I absolutely love Nutella and this hits the spot for that craving. 2. Chocolate brownie - not too sweet and I love that it was made of dark chocolate 3. Chocolate lava cake - it was scrumptious and soft. My only issue was the temperature. I wish it was warmer so I could enjoy the hot molten chocolate lava actually burning my mouth 😂 Next time I want to try the chocolate pizza and mousse on their menu. IG- drfoodieee

Nice walk in

By Christopher I |

We stumbled upon this cafe on a stroll around the block and found exactly what you need in this wonder but stressful city: tasty coffee and Coco, nice pastry, working WiFi, clean and tidy restrooms and friendly laid back people. Thanks guys.

Excellent Service!

By Mads |

I have a newfound nut allergy so a lot of items on the menu were limited for me, but the nice ladies who work there made sure I knew of any cross contamination risk, and what was in each food item. I settled on a simple butter croissant which was delicious in itself. Thank you for looking out for your guests and being so hospitable!

Chocolate heaven

By Amanda V |

Everything here is amazing! If I could’ve eaten everything here I would have happily done so all day. My only complaint is that they served us a croissant on a piece of cardboard which just get tossed out. A plate would’ve been a greener option

Perfect atmosphere

By Jos S |

Great cappuccino, good music. While it kept raining outside we had a great time inside Bleu Stripes. We loved the relaxed atmosphere. A inique place to go, much better than going to Starbucks

Ecuador Chocolate

By Anise2014 |

Ever have Ecuadorian chocolate? Now's your chance. Rose flavor is my favorite. Had a cocoa coffee here. Excellent! Will return.

Food is great!

By canrubu |

We went here for a quick breakfast. Had the Avocado toast and the beet toast both with eggs. The food is very good and toast portions are pretty big. The place is all about the chocolate and is very good.

Cafe Serves Up More than Good Eats and Drinks; Great Place to Hang

By Twila E |

I selected this cafe as a meeting place with friends I hadn’t seen since moving from NYC to San Francisco 14 years ago. It was purely arbitrary from a list I requested in a general cafe search of the Union Square area. I did not realize how lucky this choice was until after eating a late lunch there and then meeting with many who came to this designated place and time to reconnect. This is a lovely and tasty choice for exactly that and to hang out for hours of enjoyable conversation, great nosh and very accommodating staff. And here’s the best part: they played the best selection of 60’s and 70’s rock on a continuous stream; one great and memorable song after another and at a level one could enjoy hearing and yet have a wonderful catch-up conversation with old friends. If you’re in the area and want to just chill or chat, or even plug into your computer for whatever your reason, you will find this venue a number one local for that and for delicious treats, sweet or savory, as well.

Chocolate heaven

By USCKaboom |

Looking for a tasty snack as we were wandering around, we came across Blue Stripes. Not realizing that it was a new spot from the legendary Max Brenner. We had a good time. The melted chocolate was delicious. The Brenner Favorite was enjoyable as well. They forgot or someone accidentally took our hot chocolat. But Max himself noticed and had another one made.

Wow, just wow!

By r_cam2 |

We came across blue stripes after we heard some recommendations. Oded the owner has a big reputation to keep being the master behind 'Max brener' and boy oh boy he delivers. First of all the Clouds - sweet different flavor fluffy drink, like a cloud as the name suggests - amazing, pour fresh from a tap (like beer), and delicious! We also tried the chocolate pretzel, and listened to Oded suggestion and took the Pancakewich - a sandwich of pancake instead of bread covering nice chocolate layer with caramelized choped banana and vanilla souce. It was a really good and sweet meal, decent price, and a great service, Oded kept on checking if we are good, if it's all to our liking. If I could give this plece more than 5, I would.

Yummy:)

Busy but Good

By amethystloucks |

I was at the Strand to sell some books and since this was basically around the corner and on my list of to visit places in the city I decided to go. Given it was Saturday afternoon when I went, it was a little busy, but the food and hot chocolate was worth it.

A chocolate haven!

By Aliyah O |

I love this place. There have been days where I've sat and worked there and went from a delicious breakfast a yummy lunch and a series of indulgent snacks in between. I think often about the avo toast and the hummus and edmame with what I've come to realise are the best pretzels in the city!

What an amazing chocolate discovery!

By East_Coast_Foodie |

We have been away from NYC longer than we planned. We fondly remembered the wonderful Max Brenner Chocolate Shop, and while walking in that neighborhood looking for a place for something sweet after a satisfying dinner, we passed the new Blue Stripes shop and the scene from window drew us in. I have since read that was recently opened by Oded Brenner, one of the original founders of Max Brenner. Blue Stripes is beyond fabulous! We stumbled on the shop the first time, and made a special trip the other two times we visited during our recent vacation in the city. In the evening it is insanely popular, but worth waiting for a table.

Great place

By amitgreen |

Got here with the kids. The place is amazing. The choklate has the texture that melts in your mouth, the kids got their sugar rush in a few minutes, and we enjoyed fantastic coffee. Will defenetly be back.

Mediocre

By Schipa |

I stopped in for a hot chocolate on a rainy evening. The staff stood around for a few minutes ignoring me for a while and then I ordered my hot chocolate, special dark version. They pulled out a half gallon of Ithaca chocolate milk filled a small round cup with no handle about half way and filled the rest of the cup with Ithaca whole milk. The preparer took it over to the espresso steamer and warmed it up to just over lukewarm. They smeared some chocolate syrup around the rim (I guess maybe to give it a chocolate-like flavor) and for $7 I sat there thinking "Well, I guess this is not Angelique in Paris", though the prices, if not the ambience (loud hip-hop), are roughly similar.

If you’re a chocoholic

By Ayeletbz |

This is the place for cacao lovers. Everything looks tempting, but I went for iced chocolate drink as it was so hot outside, and I loved it. Kids went for krembo and a huge Ferraro Rocher. Yum!!

Amazing choice of delicious food

By Lisa L |

There is nothing Gimmicky about Brenner’s new place. We were there early so it was quiet and I really felt that the less people who know about this place the better ( I don’t want to share with lots of tourists). The not chocolate based food is equally as delicious as the chocolate food. We found out too late that they have a menu with photos as we just went off the written menu behind the counter. Next time it would be good if these menus were more readily available for customers. Of course I will have to return to sample some of the amazing things I saw others order after I’d eaten. I also had an iced latte which was very good on a hot day. You definitely feel like a local here. I loved it and I will return.

No advisory on nuts

By HotelFashionista |

I visited this place two times during my last trip to the city. The first time, it was quite crowded, so I relented and left without purchase. The second time, I decided to purchase some snacks to go to the airport. Now I realize this place is new and your staff is young, but PLEASE train them on nut protocol. I bought the yummy looking smores cupcake. My first bite was divine - as I love a perfect marshmallow fluff. My second bite was DISGUSTING. Who puts peanut butter AND cherries in smores? Why do you not tell a customer this? Anyone who is a fan of smores does not expect this. I have a nut allergy - whilst it is not as severe for a hospital visit, it is real. I disgustingly spit out the rest of this $7 cupcake out. Sheer disappointment as I washed down water and benadryl. I also bought the suggested Krembo, which is a flavored marshmallow fluff atop a cookie. Again, you should tell people this does not travel well, nor should you take it to go. You should eat it in store. I opened the box not long after I bought this and it was a a sugary syrupy mess. It was inedible. Part of me wants to give them another chance. The other part of me is like "save your $20." I am torn because I wanted to like this place as I love max Brenner around the corner. But, this was disappointing.

Great chocolate, great ambience and great staff !

By Jerry45 |

The décor is warm, funky, and welcoming in other words outstanding. The signage is really good, too. The staff were all friendly and offered us tastes of whatever we were looking at. We passed by Blue Stripes shop accidentally and the scene from window drew us in.
