Sushi Damo Damo offered a great selection of traditional japanese cuisine. It was pretty pricey and the service average however the food was delicious.

good sushi, good service, bit pricy but go try it!

Every time I come here, I get sushi/sashimi dishes that are infused with fresh oils and spices/herbs. The stuff from the kitchen (cooked stuff) also tends to be tasty. It's a bit on the slightly expensive side when you take into account the smaller portions given the price. This place always looks a little dark or empty from the outside but they're open. They have signs up telling you they're open because it looks so dark inside (and empty sometimes). There is also a "sports" bar side that shows the hottest game where you can order drinks and a full meal.

Damo sushi bar is almost next to the Hudson Hotel, and serves excellent portions of sushi roils for a very reasonable NYC price. Party of four ate for $50 and was satisfied. Highly recommend this place..

Perfectly acceptable sushi but nothing special and over priced. Service was fine, waiter helpful but did not leave with a WOW factor.

opposite Time Warner Mall a great asian restaurant.rich menu for sushi but more.you can sit by the bar or at the table.good service. The sushi is fresh and tasty .my favorite is the monkey roll with a glass of pino grigio.my 4th time there and I ll go there again on my next visit to NYC.

Limited range of other Japanese food however the plates of sushi are exquisitely prepared and there is a huge preparation bar in the main restaurant and to get a seat here is a superb experience of seeing how its done. A pricey alternative, service to a typical NY standard but nothing outstanding. Busy every night of the week in the evenings!

Nobu is my favorite restaurant in the world and I have visited it in many cities (recently in London at the Metropolitan Hotel where I stayed) but every time we have dinner at Sushi Damo Damo, very close to our home --I compare it with Nobu and sometimes it fares even better. We had dinner there recently and both the service and the amazing food were great!...Their version of the Rock Shrimp with a creamy sauce is even better than Nobu's. Much more delicate flavor and such freshness! My brother -who claimed he did not like Japanese food and was hesitant about going with us- ordered the breaded Pork Cutlet and it was delicious, crispy and not greasy at ALL. The sushi is great and during lunch their Bento boxes are a great deal. This is a little known restaurant that to us in the neighborhood of Columbus Circle and the Time Warner Center is our secret gem.

Sushi Damo turned out to be our lunch stop this afternoon. I saw the 3 star online rating and was a bit hesitant, but I was outvoted and had to give it a go. As soon as we sat down, everyone was instantly uncomfortable due to the lack of space. All of the tables around us were literally inches away. So, not only do you have no room to sit like a person, you also get hit with your neighbors' yappy conversations on every side. To make matters worse, we were hit with a mind blowingly bad mix tape featuring what I think was Sarah McLachlan, played very loud, much to the chagrin of my poor ears. Regarding the food, the first thing I noticed was how pricey it was. For example, $6 for 2 small pieces of sashimi. That's double what you pay at most neighborhood sushi places on the UWS. The food itself wasn't even average, let alone a level of quality that would warrant such expensive pricing. The fish was roundly awful. Instead of being a vibrant shade of red, the tuna was a pale and unhealthy looking grayish pink. The white tuna was ice cold tough, and flavorless, as if it was recently defrosted. The salmon was passable taste-wise, but very tough in texture. Even the tap water tasted stale. On the plus side those who got hot food seemed to like it, so I guess that's worth a star. But my meal was a total stinkeroo. Can't recommend this place.

We chose this restaurant as a convenient location near to our hotel rather than deliberately seeking it out and as far as the food was concerned, we weren't disappointed. We opted for early evening dining and I tried the Asian Pear cocktail which was crisp, elegantly presented and delicately yet very full-flavoured. The niggle with this, which we didn't query as we weren't in the bar area, was that although we were there during well-advertised Happy Hour, no-one offered the Happy Hour cocktail menu and we certainly were charged full price for it. However, the range on the menu was excellent and we chose two hot starters - one beef and the other, pork dumplings. The dumplings in particular stood out as a brilliant explosion of delicate spicy sweetness. The beef was ok, if a little tough - though still flavoursome. For our main, we chose a sushi/sashimi combo plate to share, which was generous and prettily presented, though definitely NOT cheap for what it offered. Puddings were unusual and interesting (we had a cheesecake and the rice ice-cream) and reasonably sized, though in the case of the ice-cream, a little bland. The service was adequate and politer than some in NY!! Overall for the two of us, the bill came to well over $160 which for what it was is rather steep and which prevents me from offering a wholehearted endorsement. By all means give it a go, but don't be surprised if it's a more costly visit than you might normally expect from a mid-market restaurant of this type.

This place has nothing special. Deco is average, sushis are average to mediocre and service is just average while prices are just above average so obviously the price to quality ratio is not on the right side...

The food is great, the mix of the flavors of the Spicy Sashimi Platter is an really good experience for spices lovers. Maybe a bit of carbs in the plate will make it very complete dish. Attention was good but the napkins had a lot of lint that get all over your clothe.

Made a snap decision to try this place for the first time before the theatre. As it was early, I was seated immediately despite no reservation. The restaurant is attractive with a classy air to it. Service was professional - pleasant without gushing, helpful, prompt. As to the food, the sushi was very good and nicely plated, though as others have noted, the portion sizes are not very large. I ordered some additional items and that was sufficient. Overall, an enjoyable experience.

Stumbled across this place on 58th street, last minute booking which they were able to accommodate which always makes you worry. Nothing to worry about, the food was fab. Efficient service, lovely fresh salad & sushi and a miso sea bass dish that was melt in the mouth. Had a similar dish a Nobu for 5 times the price. Tasted as good if not better. Would definitely recommend. We didn't order desert but the dishes I saw on other tables looked very tasty.

This is a Chinese sushi place. What does this mean? Not authentic or fresh. Poorly prepared. In a nutshell, sushi is a Japanese cuisine and best to go where a real Japanese chef is at work. I decided to venture here after I was tired of the expensive sushi at the Time Warner building. Looks nice from outside but inside is eh. I see in menu there is Omakase. Bigggg mistake. Don't ever do this if you're at a Chinese sushi place. Whereas in a real sushi place, you would get the best fish when you order Omakase, in a Chinese sushi place, you basically get the worst. Basically, a great opportunity for them to clean the fridge. During my Omakase, I had 2 huge plateful of fish. Really big pieces and didn't taste good or fresh at all. The server comes by and ask if it's enough because they got more. I guess they had a lot of cleaning to do. Everything was really cold like it was straight from the fridge. One way to tell good quality sushi is the temperature. It should not be too cold or warm. It should be perfect texture and temperature. There was also not much variety. I've seen more variety at some restuarants' sushi special! One of hallmarks of Omakase is variety. Fish or dish prepared in a different way. Here, it was like 5 nigiri each of tuna, salmon, and white tail. Worst Omakse or most fake Omakase I ever had!

We arrived late (straight off our London -NY flight) and with tired children... and despite that we had an amazing meal... perfect gyoza, and wonderful chicken katsu, with a great selection of sushi and sashimi. Service was good, but not exceptional, since with the noise and our tiredness we had to repeat a number of items a number of times to our very kind waiter. Would love to return - earlier and without the children!

know that eating raw seafood has it's risks. but rarely have I ever experienced a reaction this bad. Sashimi tuna and salmon didn't taste great but I was hungry. Live and learn. Yuck! terrible

Opposite Warner mall at Colombia circle a great sushi restaurant.i had the special eel roll.melts in your mouth.so fresh and good combination. Good service.good for lunch and dinner.

This place is expensive, gives you small portions, doesn't refill your ice tea and puts a 20 percent tip for themselves as part of their bill. Don't go to this place. The servers are not friendly. There are so many other restaurants and sushi places in NYC.

Excellent fresh sushi and good service. Would definitely recommend. We had a selection of the rolls. Pricey, but this is NYC.

Having not been eaten Japanese food, we were apprehensive, but the waitress was very helpful. it was wonderful

This is one of the worst sushi restaurants. I ordered spicy salmon roll. Its taste was totally different from authentic roll. The salmon inside the roll was fried, which is not good. Other sushi also did not taste good. I can say that the price was rip-off. This restaurant is a shame in New York.

Pls note that here you do not order as in Europe and one piece is one piece. Despite asking the waitress to show how big a piece is and not receiving an answer I started orderingång - 2 of those, 2 of those, 1 one of those and so on - in total 7 pieces.... Then my husband ordered his food - bare in mind we had starters. In comes 42 pieces sushi...... One piece equals one roll, ie 6 pieces. I am not a big person and how could the waitress think I would eat 42 on my own - her reply - i think you share... Really? Bad service not explaining despoten asking. Feels like all she wanted to do was to get as much money out of the tourists as possible..... Sushi tasted good though and the food of good standard. With a different Waiter/waitress I might return.....

During a family tryp to NY, we were looking for a place to have dinner and we were very lucky to find Sushi Damo. Great environment, great service and the food was wonderful! We ordered the best Ramen we have ever tried, sushi rolls, Nigiri sushi. If you are near Columbus Circle, try this restaurant and will not regret. Excellent!

Loved the restaurant and atmosphere- food and service were fantastic. we had a great late lunch and the server made sure the meal met my dietary restrictions (gluten free, dairy free). Excellent!

Happy hour drinks are half price. The Damotini is made with Hendricks gin and is large. The Chirasi platter of sashimi is 15 pieces and well worth it.

Very good sushi, honest, efficient and excellent wait staff. Clean. Vibrant atmosphere. Pleasant host. Ask for a window seat to people watch.

Found it by luck as we were sleeping in a hotel right next door. Surprisingly good sushi and all the other Japanese dishes. Good service. Thank you

This restaurant was right next to our hotel, so we tried it out one night as it was crammed full of people and looked interesting. A bit of a mixed bag: the soft shell crab was covered in something and it kinda masked the flavor of the crab. Was disappointed. The actual sashimi was really good, tuna, salmon and others all really yummy. But the salmon rolls were really disappointing again: spicy tuna roll was so-so, we got another roll that we didn't even finish. Service was pretty good and drinks were decent. Overall ok, glad we tried it but wouldn't go back.

The sushi was very good and the portions quite big as well. We were very satisfied by the service. Maybe a bit too expensive. Nice atmosphere.

Terrific fish and friendly service. Sushi chefs are fast and highly skilled. Atmosphere is very pleasant. Returned many times. extremely high prices are the only downside.

Visited this place because the location (close to my hotel) and the reviews on TripAdvisor. The 'hot' towel received when sitting down was dirty - not a great start. Then the Wifi didn't work, password sushidamo apparently doesn't work on Apple products. The Tuna was tasty, I ordered the tekka-don, but it came with very little rice. Luckily they brought me a separate bowl of rice upon request. After finishing this course the waiters were very pushy asking me if I was done - as if they were saying: "order something else, or get out". Overal a nice place, good food.

Soup was not hot enough. Sushis were delicious but service was a question mark. We were warned as because we did leave 7% tip by letting us that any tip should be around 15 to 20 % as this restaurant in New York!!!

Sushi Damo Damo is getting a little tired like a number of other restaurants we have revisited on this trip to New York. The food is no longer outstanding but rather average, not bad just not great, like the service. The Black Cod although on the menu was unavailable, didn't get their delivery? The Sashimi and other seafood dishes we ordered were all OK. Was the meal worth $161.14 and then an expected 18% to 25% tip on top? Definitely not! It was also very cold inside the restaurant, not comfortable.

My wife and I dropped by for some sushi and upon entering we were met at the door by a waitress who seemed less than interested in us being there. Upon being seated, we were ignored for a lengthy period of time and finally after the waitress approached she made us feel incredibly unwelcome. We were eventually treated to some great sushi, but upon paying the bill with a credit card we determined the service was so bad that a tip was not appropriate. This was made quite clear and indicated on the receipt. Checking our account that night we realised that the waitress had determined that she deserved a 20% tip which she subsequently gave herself. We went back and complained directly to management, where the waitress then attempted to claim that it was just additional taxes on our bill. Being tourists with no internet, I then returned to our hotel room to get a copy of my account statement when we identified that following our initial complaint, the waitress attempted to cover it up by reimbursing our account quickly. Unfortunately for her we had screen shots of the account statement showing our account before and after her attempt to cover her tracks. Reading other reviews it appears that this has been a recurring theme, although to varying degrees. I am amazed that management continues to allow this to happen and their lack of action makes them guilty by association. For further confirmation read reviews from: - aurelia77 (Nov 8, 2014) - tripaddict974 (Jul 24, 2014) - Charles I (Jun 14, 2014) - Milano (May 19, 2014) I would not go to this restaurant; regardless, how good the sushi is.

Totally impressed with the quality of this meal! Never heard of it, and boy did I miss the boat! Fantastic service, great food. Affordable and yummy. Everything was delicious!

Me and my husband found this place on our way to Central Park. The sushi was great and the service was good but what we really loved were the cocktails.

Had already been there long time ago, nice environment and good sushi selection but the worst Shrimp Tempura Udon I had in my whole life, shameful!

Stayed att the Hudson New York and passed this place when going from Central Park. Tried it the evening after. Great sushi and Italian white wine, I would highly recommend this place to any sushi lover.

Decent but spotless interior. Interior is ok with a Japanese flair but pedestrian. On the other hand the food is spectacular. Gyoza were best we have ever had and the sushi was also great. My wife's salmon was excellent and I enjoyed a soba noodle soup crammed with mushroom, chicken and pork......it was so large, I could not finish. Service was flawless and friendly but not rushed. The are three sushi chefs so that they do not fall behind in service when the restaurant is crowded Prices were good for NYC. Only thing missing is a coat check room..Delighted to have found this place..

Location is convenient, interesting rolls and friendly servers. Good energy! I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

This place was recommended by a foodie friend who lives in NYC. They don't take reservations and we had to wait about 25 minutes to get a table. But, boy, it was worth the wait. Sushi was great. But they also had a dish called Ox Tail Rice. It was over the top. I will be back and, if they still have it, will order the Ox Tail Rice.

We didn't stay here very long because they closed relatively early, at like 11, but we managed to get two delicious, unique cocktails and order some of their soup. For soup, i thought it was a little expensive.

Terrific energy and vibe and the sushi was super fresh. The sashimi melted in my mouth and the rolls were rolled tightly and inventive. Try the spicy scallop hand roll--it's divine. The sake selection was not huge, but had a decent selection by the glass. I would definitely go back.

We had the sashimi platter and a few rolls- the passion roll was delicious. I would definitely eat there again. Everything was fresh, the ambience was great and the service was very attentive.

Good location. Good ambiance. We were just passing by and only had an appetizer and two glasses of wine. The bartender never interacted and I never saw a smile. In fact, I didn’t hear his voice. Other than that, the place was good

We were visiting New York for a business conference along with a client from South Africa. We had such a great meal and dining experience on the Saturday, we all were desperate to go back again on the following Tuesday. We weren't disappointed on our second visit either. Everything was so light, fresh and tasty.

Had great Japanese beers in the evening. Loved the bar area! Red lamps, nice atmosphere. Waiter very friendly! There is a door adjacent to next door restaurant. When that opened cold wind was blowing in every time. The food supposedly is great! Place packed all the time

I've been to this place almost 4 years ago and this November I have returned and it is just as good as it was before, fast nice service, perfect quality.

Well located, good service, average prices. The large windows make you feel as you were seated outside. Sushis and Sashimis are great!

I popped into Sushi Damo to grab a quick lunch before heading to a meeting. The restaurant does a very reasonable lunch menu and I enjoyed a mixed plate of sushi rolls and sashimi for $18, which included a bowl of miso soup. The sushi was very fresh and service was quick and attentive. There were groups and couples eating there at the same time as me, but I would recommend this for people eating alone also.

During the years my family and I have visited Sushi Damo many times. We like the clean and contemporary decor and the delicious rolls and tartars, as well as the usually good service. What I did not liked at all is the way they put a pre-calculated tip (higher than the customary 15%) in the check, this happens without any verbal information to the customer. This has happened the last two or three times I was there. It's not that I don't like to reward a good service, but I don't like being oblidged to an extra reward when not deserved, and more that that, risking to tip twice, once via the precalculated amount in the check, and the second time, by filling the dedicated blank space in the credit card slip! Hope they will discontinue this disturbing behavior.

We ate Gyoza, different vegan sushi, vegetable tempura. The waiter was very attentive and nice, the restaurant quite noisy...

47 seconds to place your order . If you are not ready - no problem- they will be back 22 seconds later! - We must have failed the test - we took 4 min. 11 seconds to choose our dinner . The red miso soup tasted like an instant soup made with an expired mix pack. The broccoli, mushrooms & sautéed garlic was cold !!! The sushi roll did not taste fresh - Perhaps Wednesday is just the wrong day to go out for food in NYC.

I love walking into a place ravenous hungry and leaving sated. Sushi Damo Damo does this for you with welcome smiles, easy service and wonderful sushi. Not cheap sushi....good choices, good quality. Nice location in between the Time Warner Center and Hudson Hotel.

not cheap - but to start one of the best miso soups i have ever had. This followed by consistently fantastic sushi and tempura. I definitely got my money's worth (thank goodness it was a business trip)

I ate here with a colleague the evening we arrived of the plane. We were staying a few doors up at the Hudson, and didn't want to venture far. The sashimi was very good, the sushi selection was reasonable, the katsu was ok. All in all the prices seemed pretty fair and I had no complaints about the service. As has been said before just watch out that there is a tip included in the bill already, we nearly doubled up. I would probably return if we were staying here again, but doubt I would travel specifically from further afield.

On a recent trip to NYC we were looking for a good lunch while wandering through the area. We came across Sushi Damo Damo. The restaurant was clean, the decor modern and the service was excellent. You get a good combination of NYC style without any of the pretension that usually accompanies. The price was very reasonable for the quality of food. Lunch for two was under well under $40 and we even splurged a little on some sushi add ons. I would recommend a bento box for a good lunch simply for the variety of food you get. If you are looking for a good quality meal in this area that wont break the bank, Sushi Damo beats the pants off of the numerous sandwich shops and pub food in the area.

We went here for a quick bite to eat and it was definitely quick. The sushi was fresh and appetizing but my friend ordered the chicken noodles. It was pretty much a plate of noodles with very little else. We were there for happy hour so $6 glasses of wine softened the blow. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Stick with the sushi to avoid disappointment.

We went to this sushi place as it was very close to the hotel we were staying at and looked nice when we walked past it a few times. We love sushi and really wanted to treat ourselves. The menu looked good and the food was nice but it wasn't anything too amazing and in fact quite expensive. The big let down was the service! The waitress we had was quite bossy and rude. We didn't feel it was worth the 20% service charge added to the bill.

We had a spider roll and stir fry soba noodles with vegetables. The spider roll was not even average. It was mediocre at best. The soba noodles were OK but they were drowned in some kind of sauce. We would not go back. What was really annoying is that the Diet Coke was three dollars and when we asked for a refill we were charged an additional three dollars.

only one of two entrees turned up, the second turned up half way through our main which didn't go with it. Not sure if this was the waitress or kitchen error. The noodle dishes were served on cold plates so the food around the edge of the plates was not hot, although was beautifully cooked. Not great experience though got worse when ended up with having paid our bill and rounded it up by $4, some mad Japanese woman came rushing out to us in the street shouting that the normal tipping for NYK is 16%. The nerve - the service did not deserve any tip at all. Whilst food was good the overall experience was dreadful not to be repeated. would not recommend visiting

The best sushi ever. Not only the ordinairy ones, but allso great new inventions..rich of flavour and all super fresh ingriedients. Good atmosphere and friendly staff

It really is nice sushi. Goes extremely well with the Japanese beer (huge bottle). Had 3 sushi rolls between us; left feeling very fulfilled on an Easter Saturday lunchtime.

We stopped here for lunch on a day while in NYC. IT doesn't not look much from the outside but inside it a cute traditional looking Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere is subdued and the servers are really great. When we walked in we were directed to a front window seat, which in the heat of the day plus the barely there air conditioning it was really hot. The food made up for it though, absolutely delicious! I ordered the vegetarian bento box which was huge and vey well made. It was made quickly so was good not having to wait too long, with things still being really freshly made. If you love Sushi and find it hard to find good places in the BIG cities then this is worth the visit. Located across from the Time Warner building it is also conveniently located if near the area.

I've eaten here periodically and although the price is higher than our regular low key sushi place, the food is good, sushi fresh and we did enjoy our meal very much.

Couldn't ask for fresher and tastier sushi. Great selection and creative menu. Visited this restaurant solo, as i had one night in town. Will definitely be back.

that's the very best sushi i ever ate, so the price totally worth it, it took a combo 1 person and could not end the plate but the fact they automattically charge you 20% tips without saying anything, or that you must ask for the change because they believe the rest was for the extra tips that's rude also the fact I am french, some words are difficult to express and waitress was quite rude, in a hurry, forgot to dress my table, looked in the sky when I asked or when i spoke the chef should be aware of those remarks, because all this work to have the best sushi I ever ate wit a bad service, that's sad... the entrance woman was lovely person...

I love Damo creations sushi. very unique and tasty with lots of fish.I also highly reccomand the sea weed salad. love the place.

The restaurant easily accommodated our party of 8 (3 adults and 5 children ages 8-13). Service was outstanding! Everyone was happy from the edamame appetizer to the delicious cheesecake dessert. The presentation was lovely and everyone enjoyed themselves.

We had dinner at sushi Damo just a few weeks ago. We did not reserve a table in advance and just walked in. We were lucky enough that the place was not completely full and were directed to a table immediately. Service was efficient. Food came out fast. We enjoyed the food very much (we shared 2 starters and several sushi rolls). The place is a bit on the pricey side, but not something that you wouldn't expect from a NYC restaurant. The real surprise about this place was actually when we got to the desserts part of our dinner. The desserts menu is fairly big and has quite a few options in it. We chose a chocolate dessert (I am not sure what is the exact name - but the waiter did recommend on it) and it was just AMAZING. Who would have thought that such a dessert will be served, from all places, in a Japanese restaurant in NYC. It was the perfect ending to a very tasty dinner.

Our family found Sushi Damo Damo by sheer coincidence as we happened to end up at Columbus Circle after a stroll around Central Park. We felt a bit peckish and thought a few sushi and sashimi would just be the right thing to have. It was early in the evening and we happened to be among the first guests to arrive for dinner (obivously no reservation). Service was friendly and efficient. We ordered a mixed platter of sushi and sashimi (as intended) plus a few items on the side. We were truly positively surprised by the freshness, the quality and the presentation of all dishes. We also found that this restaurant offers very good value for money. All in all a deserved Excellent rating and we hope that many future guests can share this experience.

Fresh tasty sushi in a quiet atmosphere near Columbus Circle. One of our New York favourite. Always pleasant staff and good food. Wine list a good compliment to the sushi? The green tea or red bean ice cream a nice finishing touch?

Fast service. Tea is good(complimentary?). Miso soup, shumai and rolls(blackened tuna, spider and shrimp tempura) were good as well. 3.5 stars

Went there on Saturday night and had no waiting time. The waiter was very friendly. The sushi menu is pretty big and tastes really good. Fair prices for the location.

The various meals were OK, the same for the service. The airco in wintertime was noisy and cold. Also they add the gratuity of 20% by default to the price

Folks, this is by far a leading sushi place. I have been to a 2 michelin star restaurant tonight. And I wish I went to damo 2 nights in a row!!! Warm service, tasty sushis and wide range of drinks. No need to go to "Per Se" which is across the street. Just enjoy Damo!

Sushi Damo does excellent and authentic japanese sushi. I heard many locals say it is the best in the city. The place was very busy and lively on a Friday night which I like. Service was friendly and swift. It is quite pricey though and the portions are rather small. I paid about $60 for two rolls and a beer (incl. tip). So, good but on the expensive side...

Located in the heart of midtown Manhattan near Columbus Circle you find good but pricey sushi, modest service and table very close together.

We were craving sushi, so we ordered here using Postmates. We got the sweet potato roll, California roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. Huge mistake. Portions were tiny- spent about $35 on three rolls so small they couldn’t fill one person- and got diarrhea an hour after.

Right near Columbus Circle...a perfect place to grab sushi with family, friends or date night. The sushi was fresh (I'm a bit picky), presentation was exquisite and service was wonderful too. Would definitely go back again.

We wandered around the Columbus Circle area looking for a place to have late dinner on our first day of our five day vacation. Since we both love sushi, we were pleased to discover this restaurant. The quality of sushi was very good, service also. As a result, we went back a couple of days later. We can recommend tihs sushi place to any Japanese food lover.

We used to go here a lot for the decent and well priced sushi in an otherwise pricey neighborhood. Unfortunately, this place went downhill. The last time we went in, as we were about to sit down we noticed a ROACH walking across one of our dinner plates. Completely grossed out, we left. The staff did not bother to apologize. The staff seemed more surprised that we would be disgusted enough to want to leave, than to find a roach crawling on a table.

Went after a show. Near closing. Very unfriendly staff. Disinterested as they were near closing time. Clearly not run by Japanese. Food is average. Be careful not to double tip. Tip is already in the bill. I can see why since the service is so poor that they probably would not earn a tip.

We had an enjoyable lunch here with attentive service and solidly good sushi & sashimi at fair prices. The restaurant was moderately busy. The food arrived at a well measured pace and we would happily return.

This is a great Japanese restaurant in midtown. There are plenty of sushi and non-sushi dishes. Very happy with the food and service.

Huge and delicious sushi menu. They have wondefrul sushi roll creations worth trying. Great service and simple but good environment.

Had a quick dinner, sushi was great and the menu is very interesting. service was very efficient without being intrusive which is very important for me.

Had lunch there. Very busy but we got a table. The food was good, not exceptional, portions were small though. Service was ok.

I ate here with my boyfriend and we had never had sushi before. The waiter was able to explain the menu to us and gave us recommendations. The portions were a bit small (although we thought) but by the time we had finished eating it was enough for us both. We were in and out of this place within an hour, which was perfect for us as we had a show to catch. Lovely food with great service.

This restaurant is just amazing. Been to New York 8 times and have to go back all the time. It has the best Gyoza and the best desserts.

I loved this sushi, great Quality of food, good Service, and The general place is a fun AND a nice place yo go if you aré with friends or in couples.

Had lunch today with family members at this restaurant choices of the food were outstanding highly recommended

Nice atmosphere, with nice sushi-bar dishes and good service just out of Columbus Circle. Very reasonable prices for nicely cut, tasty rolls and sumai. Better for couples.

It’s a nice place, but overpriced. Kani salad is a pretty tiny portion and it’s 15$. We have got a dragon roll and a yuki roll. Both were delicious but 16$ each. Teriyaki chicken was ok. As for me chicken was too dry. Not too clean. But friendly. Our friend didn’t like the raw fish but by mistake he ordered a roll with a raw fish in there. So the server was nice and substituted with another roll of no charge. Not a must go place but good to try.

Cute space. We ordered spicy tuna, tuna tataki, and avocado rolls. Oh and, mochi! All very good and the lunch included 2 maki. The salad was great as well, bigger than usual.

To start, you are going to have to wait for your table, secondly the bar area is way too small for the seemingly hundred people that seems to be crowded into it, and finally don't dress to warmly, the bar gets stuffy. NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF... If you really, really know and love your sushi and long for a sushi restaurant that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with any of the best in Tokyo, Shinjuku or Osaka then grab the phone make a reservation and get over to Sushi Damo. I'm not going to tout this restaurant for it's bar, service times or perhaps courtesy, I can however tell you the food is super-fresh, totally authentic and prepared with the utmost of skill. You wont find any American-Influenced flavor destroying spicy tuna with Jalapeno or red chili and avocado octopus rolls here, this is an authentic Japanese Sushi restaurant with a reputation to uphold and covet. You can be absolutely sure that when you order your fresh Ankimo (Monkfish Liver) Sashimi that it is fresh out of the water, sweet, solid and chilled to the perfect temperature. Even the Uni (Sea Urchin Roe) was so beautiful and fresh it literally tasted like fish candy. I'm completely unapologetic about how I dislike some of the whacko derivations I see of fine Japanese cuisine these days, it's a culture worth respecting and enjoying the way it was defined and evolved over centuries. If you have time, want to check off some of your personal bucket-list sushi experiences and want an evening of sublime enjoyment you are in very good hands at Sushi Damo.

Sushi Damo serves up a couple of rolls and salad as a healthy lunch for what you'd expect to pay for a cheeseburger platter. The gorgeous space is relaxing and the servers are very attentive and without being overbearing. The rolls and sushi are fresh and there's a wide variety and combinations to choose from here.

I've been eating at Damo Damo for years, and despite the higher-than-average prices, the quality and consistency of the sushi keeps me coming back for more. Great eel/avocado, and rock shrimp tempura, as well as good service.

While in NYC on a business trip my colleagues and I stumbled into here shortly after checking into our hotel as it was nearby. We were pleasantly surprised at getting a table immediately for four - and more so how delicious the sushi was. Welcomed with a huge smile, the staff were all very friendly and didn't do the usual USA way of hovering around and asking how things are every five minutes in the hope of a large tip. We were left to our own devices but there was always someone on hand when we needed them. Ravished we ordered a mix of sashimi (the spicy yellow tail was succulent and not too zingy) and sushi (the spider crab rolls were amazing) and veggie tempura (good mix of veg in light and crisp batter. The portions were generous and we left nothing. It was so good we went back two nights later with another friend and tried the cocktails (very strong, be warned) and wine with yet more of the same sushi. A marvellous find and one I will definitely return to when next in the Big Apple. Prices were not high compared to London sushi spots.

Have eaten here a number of times. Quality of sushi is very good, it's a great choice if in the area. I'd definitely eat there again, and they do have a great $14 dollar lunch special.

Sushi Damo is one of the finest restaurants offering sushi that we have visited. We love sushi and seek out new restaurants during most trips. We are writing this review after our third trip to Sushi Damo. Typically our meals consist of sashimi and rolls. The quality of all of Sushi Damo’s offerings has always been high and very consistent regardless of the day of the week or time of day. The restaurant is stylishly decorated, comfortable, and suitable for all occasions. If you are going solo, you should not hesitate to eat here. The restaurant layout is well spaced and not cramped and the staff very friendly and attentive. The quality of their sashimi is second to none. The fish is always chilled just right. They offer an expansive list of rolls that cover a wide variety of tastes and budgets. We encourage you to try at least one of their special rolls. All of them are delectable and, in our opinion, better than dessert. Also we must mention that if you like chilled wines, you should indulge in a glass. Their wine cooler does amazing things.

My son and I are sushi lovers, so we decided to try Sushi Damo during our visit to New York, during the holidays. The sushi was very good: fresh, authentic, well-presented. The service, not so much. We were practically "abandoned" by our server, and neither he nor anyone else bothered to let us know he was taking a break. We requested a larger table as we planned on ordering several dishes in order to share and sample from the menu, but our request was rejected. Ok. We understand it is not always possible to cater to great customers who practically want to order half of your menu... Not a good experience, because our plates were falling off our tiny table, even though they did not bring everything at the same time at our request. There are other -much better- Sushi places that do cater to their customers and offer far higher standards in service. I do not recommend Sushi Damo.

This week I decided to try Sushi Damo's lunch specials. Please note that lunch ends at 2:45 pm and they make no exceptions (as far as I know). So I ordered the sashimi and a Tempura Bento Box. I thought that the portions were fine for the price and the quality was good. I should also mention that the rice was especially good that day. Sushi Damo has a great location too, right next to Time Warner. It also has competition from Blue Ribbon Sushi nearby. Blue Ribbon is good too. Both restaurants have things to offer. I like Sushi Damo for a quick reasonably priced lunch.

Nice staff that where there when you need them but stay away when you don't. The sushi was of excellent quality and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very nice. Just one tip; never ever put your tip on the bill without asking! It offends me and makes me feel like a stupid tourist that doesn't know how to tip.

Went here for a meal the day after our wedding. Wish we didn't bother. Sushi itself was nice, but service was very poor. Waitresses always looked miserable when coming to our table and looked confused when we ordered our meals. Menu layout is bad too, for the unknown sushi eater it could lead to an extremely confusing place. A bad experience, which was a shame.

This place was down the block from the hotel where my wife and I were staying, so we stopped in and sat at the sushi bar. Everything that we had was very good, but the portion sizes of the various rolls that we got were on the small side, so I was still hungry, even after dropping close to a hundred bucks. If there was more food, my review would've been four dots.

Good quality sushi at a fair price. Nice atmosphere. The space isn’t overly large but it doesn’t feel cramped. The wait staff were very attentive.

Tried Sushi Damo for the first time recently and loved it! After appetizers we ordered three rolls and loved them so much we found room to get two of them again. Just when you think you’ve tasted it all, a new spin delights you. You can’t go wrong here!

On a recent trip to NYC, I visited Sushi Damo for the 2nd time. I really like this place! This time I went for lunch, but it is the same menu as for dinner. They have a wonderful selection of sushi, and also many other dishes available. We arrived just as they were opening, and the restaurant smelled very clean, which is always a nice feeling, especially in a sushi restaurant. I started with the Midori Salad, which was a House Salad topped with at least half of a sliced avocado, and came with a ginger dressing. This was delicious, very light despite its large size. My favorite sushi roll was the Spicy Crab with cucumber. I am pregnant, so I can't currently eat the raw items, and this one was delicious. I would get this even if I could have raw items. Sushi Damo has a great atmosphere, and overlooks 58th Street. I will definitely go back there, despite a $100 lunch for two, no alcohol included.

Had a business dinner here in April and visited with friends in November intent on sitting at the Sushi Bar in front of the chef theatricals. Really enjoyed the platter selection and the overall experience. There may be better Sushi restaurants in NYC, but this one does it for me.

Decent priced sushi rolls and delicious! Convenient and quiet location. The servers were excellent and extremely accommodating with our 3.5yo. We even saw Michael Emerson from Lost and his wife who plays Arlene on True Blood there! Highly recommend and Pinkberry is right next door!

Unprofessional staff, Racist staff, and just poor judgment on my behalf to even go to this establishment! By the way.... I speak fluent Japanese and astounded them when I cut the staff off and spoke their language and politely told them how I felt about the service! You could hear crickets in the restaurant!

Great lunchtime venue! Really close to Central Park but it feels quiet and settled. Service was attentive, prompt and accurate - while the kitchen does an excellent job of producing fresh, tasty and high quality dishes.

While I walked down from the upper west side, I've noticed Sushi Damo. Had luck to find a table without reservation. Combination of sashimi and sushi for just less than $50. Misu soup included. Fish was fresh and tasty. Staff is great. Will definitely visit again.

Went here with a party of 5 on a business trip. Three of the 5 had never had sushi before. Our server was helpful, friendly and fast. There was nothing we asked of her that she didn't take care of quickly. Her menu suggestions were spot on. The food itself - everything - was well prepared and delicious. My personal suggestion is the Octopus Dumplings.

Nice sushi spot close to Columbus Circle and Central Park. 5/5 on location and price for sushi in prime Manhattan location, 4/5 on food, and 3/5 for service, which was prompt and attentive but server continually wiping nose with bare hand while also serving food.

Good sushi combined with good service made for a very nice experience. We had a table by the window and enjoyed some people watching while having a drink. Comfortable place with a good atmosphere made it very easy to carry on a conversation. We highly recommend the spicy yellow tail.

Never wanted to try a Sushi restaurant before but after my boyfriend proposed in Central Park just around the corner, I went to be polite because I know Its his favourite. It's now my favourite food too. What a little gem of a restaurant. I loved the food & service was very good. We are vegetarians & had everything vegetable. We even went back a few days later. Its nice that its a little out of the way so its not crazy busy like everywhere else in the city. Thank You for great memories there :)

Able to get in at 5pm without a reservation on a Saturday night ! Food was delicious, especially the uni, tuna, tamago, ikura, chicken teriyaki, etc., etc. Service was good.

Started with the tempura shrimp roll which was so light, then I had one of the 'kitchen starters' that from memory was tempura rock shrimp with a honey mayo dressing that had a slight kick to it that I could've just eaten bowls of. My husband had the lamb appetizers and being an Aussie, he knows his lamb, and said it was perfectly cooked and delicious. He got the terriyaki beef and I got the terriyaki chicken and the flavor was light and delicious and was filling without being heavy. It was a perfect meal. The staff is very attentive, as well.

Very Food Japanese Restaurant Good Price $$$ Very Good service Fast, done need Reservation Accept credit cards

I ate here with two other people. Before we went, I read the reviews on yelp and I was a little concerned. On yelp, people complained about the service so I was already on guard. I was pleasantly surprised. Our waiter was very nice. He was attentive without being disruptive. He helped us with our choice of sake and it was awesome. The food was very good. I think my favorite was the lamb chop appetizer. That was cooked to perfection! I have to say that I thought it was a little pricey considering this place doesn't have the reputation of a Haru, Morimoto or Tao.

This smart Japanese restaurant opposite the most expensive real-estate in Manhattan not only serves excellent sushi it is also reasonably priced. California roll fresh and tasty $7, Philadelphia roll with smoked salmon and cream cheese $9. The Udon soup - Nabe Yaki Udon with vegetables, chicken and shrimp $19 is a filling meal. $55 for lunch for two plus tip.

Went here after a show on a whim. Really enjoyed all of the sushi rolls we ordered. The chicken teriyaki was fine but nothing stellar about it. Would definitely go back for the sushi though!

Fantastic food, ate here twice this year and was treated to first class sushi on both occasions, the food is amazing, well presented with some spectacular specialities, Godzilla Roll and Out of Control specials were simply gorgeous, will being going back here again and again.

This restaurant is fantastic. The service is excellent and I have never had such a tasty sushi. It is also a great cocktail bar if you are not in the mood for anything but a Cosmo. I will definitely go here again and again.

We tried non- sushi items of nabeyaki udon and tempura udon, which were surprisingly good. The restaurant was full of local customers who were enjoying sushi. Next time we will try sushi too!

Stayed at the hudson hotel the weekend of dec 17 and sushi Damo was right down the street. Had walked by after seeing a show and after seeing how awesome it looked inside decided to go for drinks while waiting to meet up with another friend from long island. The Japanese beers are reasonably priced but the specialty drinks are 13$ but they are fairly strong. Anyways we decided to order a few appetizers and they were so delicious we decided to order a few rolls. Ended up staying there with our other friend for a few hours. The guys had two sake bombs which were on the house and charged us less beers than were drank. Service was great, bartender was extremely friendly. Will definitely visit on our next trip to NYC. Great atmosphere as well

Only if you are around the corner. This is NYC and I have had better sushi or perhaps it was an off day for the restaurant. Your guess.

Went to the one on W 58th Street. Love the sushi with sweet potatoes! This was the best sushi I ever had! The service was excellent! Yummy!

Just another Chinese trying to make Japanese food, sushi is the average quality American style rolls ( lots o avocato and spycies ) Expensive for what it is.

Excellent Japanese experience near Columbus Circle. That might be expensive, but the service is great, fast and the dishes are tasty.

Food quality is very good. Everything was served fresh and the taste was amazing. Very good combination of flavors in all the dishes. Service was very good too. The only reason it is not a 5 is because it did not astonish me. Still, a great place to have dinner.

Sat down in the Bar of sushi Damo and had one of the best sushi meals. Great combinations od sushi, good service and a greet experience. Expensive but it is worth the price!

Very simple, unpretentious, clean, nice people, great service, reasonable prices, very good food nicely prepared and presented. A real little, unknown gem right near Columbus Circle at the heart of midtown. Definitely go if you haven't!

This restaurant has a fairly well known reputation, yet it has progressively failed me when I have eaten there. Since it is near my office, I have eaten there on numerous ocassions. They are extremely overpriced and often don’t know how to cook meat to your needs. Their chicken has a strange texture. Unfortunately, the only positive comment I can make is that they are hospitable and very helpful. Their sushi rolls and dumplings are the only consistently good food. Unfortunately, have stopped ordering take out from this restaurant.

Very convenient to the Time Warner Center where we were going to attend a performance. The atmosphere is lovely and the food very good.

We visited sushi Damo on our third night in NYC. we were staying at the hudson hotel a few doors down so passed this restaurant daily. After 3 days sightseeing and grabbing fast food on the go (there's only so much bread, meat and cheese someone can take) we felt like we wanted something fresh and light to eat so we decided upon sushi. Due to it's close proximity we chose to go to sushi Damo and I'm glad we did. The waitress was very polite and friendly and helped me decide upon a drink with a very good recommendation. We chose to skip any entrees and just shared a sushi and sushimi platter . The quality of the fish was very good and everything was fresh tasting. The wasabi is VERY hot so be careful!! The food was like a breath of fresh air after eating new york style meals for a few days and the calming and friendly atmosphere made it an alltogether enjoyable experience.

My partner ordered sushi which she found ok. The teriyaki beef I ordered was delicious. The bottle of reisling was above average. The hot towel that the gave us as soon as we sat down was very hospitable specially when it was raining outside. I am not a desert kind of guy, but the soufflé was outstanding.

I loved this place. We were in midtown last Friday night and wanted to get sushi. Used google to search for a nearby sushi place. We didn't have reservations and the place was pretty busy, so we elected to sit at the sushi bar rather than wait 15-20 minutes for a table. The Sashimi was so fresh and tender. There is no comparison to the Sashimi and Sushi I get at places near my home in CT. The prices are higher, but in my view not outlandish and you get what you pay for. There were couples, small groups and a larger group seated toward the back. Every table was taken, but we could still talk without yelling and the service was efficient & fast. They had 5 or 6 sushi chefs working behind the Sushi Bar. I strongly recommend if you are in the area. I plan to check it out for lunch sometime soon.

We had some pretty amazing food in the city on our first night, and ate here on the second, so I fear our review might be biased against the food a bit. We ate here pre-theater on a Friday night but had early (5pm) reservations so we beat the crowd. The food WAS very good, the rolls were well crafted and everything was as advertised and consistently well prepared and beautifully presented (as a Japanese restaurant should be). The service was very attentive and spot on. We had reservations and were seated and greeted immediately. We did not have to wait between appetizer and entree, and we had no problem paying. Table service as such was very good.

Sushi Damo is a restaurant that has wonderful sushi and sashimi; is always good and prepared beautifully. There are, of course, many other choices, but I have to confess that sushi is all that I have tried and only because I love it there. It doesn't matter whether you go mid-day for lunch or dinner, the food is always good. The staff are always ready and wanting to please. I have gone several times with different people and they liked the restaurant too. I usually don't know what they order because I am so absorbed when I eat good food, but the praises are constant and everyone has complimented me for suggesting this restaurant. The restaurant is always nicely populated and everyone looks like they are enjoying themselves. I discovered the restaurant because a friend of mine lived in the building and always ordered lunch there.

Having Sushi at Damo is a pleasure when you just stepped in from a hectic 58th street. Pleasant staff with open ear for your wishes, like for us when we wanted a different seating from what was offered initially.

Lovely find. Had an hour before going to the Met Opera so found this restaurant on Trip Advisor. Didnt know how good it would be, however we loved it. We had the Sumitomo for starters and Prawn Tempura, both of which were fantastic. Followed up with Udon Chicken noodles, again lovely. Didn't have a table booked and seemed fairly quiet when we arrived at 6pm, by 15mins later seemed much busier. Overall, delighted to have found this place.

A co-worker and I come here for lunch sometimes. Really happy with the bento box choices and the menu in general. No surprises; you know what you're going to pay and what you're going to get. That's fine for a weekday lunch! They get really busy but the service has always been quite good. Haven't been for dinner but it appears that a lot of their business comes from the nearby hotels. They give a discount for paying cash.

Service was great! Sushi itself was good but a little over priced for what you get but hey...it's a big city!!!!

4.5 is what I’d rate. Nice place, delicious food and people are warm and courteous. Must visit if you love sushi

Good sushi but overpriced and waitress not helpful. Wine list limited and expensive. Sushi fresh and nicely presented. Room too dark to read menu and tables too close together.

I ordered the 15 piece salmon sashimi with sushi rice and I got a quarter of a salmon....almost. The pieces are huge! The fish just melts in your mouth! I believe this is a great value and I would recommend this place to anyone who is a fan of Japanese cousine. Service is good too and they have gluten free soy sauce. Lovely.

I'm not a suhi expert, nor a sushi lover, but my sushi-lovers friends were over the moon, and even I cannot imagine it getting much better than this. We were 4 people, and we shared 2 x sushi rolls (8 pieces), a sushi + sashimi mixed plate (16 pieces, if I remember right), 1 bowl of veggies + shrimps tempura. That was plenty for 4. All very fresh. My favourites were the rolls (New Norker and Godzilla). I also dared a tempura cheesecake as dessert: unusual and very cheesy, but I liked it. My husband also had a very unusual sesame cheesecake... maybe a bit too unusual. Service was attentive, the bill honest, the ambiente sleek (japanese...) Recommended.

Lovely atmosphere. Tables & sushi bar. Soooo many sushi choices. Rolls are very creative with appropriate combinations. Big wine list and many creative cocktails. Expensive (avg roll is $20). But worth it!

Sometimes the best spots to eat are where the locals dine, rather than the tourists. Sushi Damo Damo is that kind of place. How do we know? When people walk in and address the bartender and hostess by name... That's a clue. Another is when you see people in the bar talking it up about local issues. Now for the food... The sushi here is always fresh, very consistent (been here 4 times). My favorite is the Spicy Tuna Roll. Another treat is the martinis. Always good especially the Leachy Martini. If your near Columbus Circle, stop in and tell them Dave sent you!

Stopped in at lunch time for a quick bite before meeting a friend. The service was quick and attentive and the sushi was fresh and delicious. I had the lunch special which was soup and two rolls. We definitely eat here again.

Very good food, the presentation of the plates was professionally done. Enjoyed our meal we had shrimp tempura one of our best experience in the tempura crisp and light. Miso soup a classic and chicken teriyaki very nicely done we also had green salad

The hot towels to clean your hands at the start is a nice touch. The service was good, but the sushi was nothing special. We had hoped for better.

Tried a ton of rolls, devoured the lot. The crunchy rolls with tempura shrimp are to die for. Friendly staff. A must try for sushi lovers.

I ordered gyoza and umakase (chefs choice) and a Kirin beer. Awesome but $$$, I'm on holiday so whatever :) I would shell out that much if it was a regular occasion though

Always enjoy stumbling upon an amazing sushi place - and the food even excelled on expectations. Sat at the bar (always a winner when you have 4 brilliant sushi chefs in a well lit area to watch at work). The fish was notably fresh and perfectly cut - nice portions and fantastic service. As a Sashimi fan, I had much to choose from from the Spicy Sashimi platter (with very lightly seared red and white tuna, salmon and yellow tail) or the Sashimi salad appetizer which was crisp and fresh to perfection. As always, its great to walk in, sit on the bar, watch enjoy and move on - but based on how busy the place is, would also warmly recommend for an evening out - walking distance from Columbus circle in NYC.

I came to Sushi Damo with a business colleague. The location was convenient and we had less than 90 minutes to spare. About 3 different people asked for our drink order. Don't these waiters check in with each other? Our waiter, who finally took our food order,John, was incredibly flirtatious with my male colleague, mind you he's straight. This clown proceeded to take our order, and never once acknowledged my presence, as he was too busy trying to get laid. The Shumai we ordered was mushy and greasy, the gyoza was overcooked. Once our rolls came, they were actually good, but incredibly over-priced. We both agreed never to return to this over-priced tourist trap. The service was scattered and amateurish at best.

Great food and atmosphere. I was dining alone and sushi bar was great. Struck up a great conversation with a couple people and got a recommendation for a Broadway show.

This review is not going to be about the food in this resto but about a very strange and for us unpleasant thing we noticed on the bill. We received a check where the tip was already pre-set at 20% level - and there was no possibility to opt differently. Not the way we think it should be.

The best meal our group had eaten on a three day stay in the city. super nice ambiance, friendly and efficient wait staff, and food to remember for a lifetime. The place is a bit high in price but you definitely get a superb meal. I am not an expert on sushi in any fashion but we were thrilled in every way with this restaurant. We will visit every time we stop in Manhattan. Highly recommend to all!!

Very attractive place. Prompt service. Six veggie and fish rolls for $38, which is really reasonable in my mind. All the food was great. Would not hesitate to come back.
Great sushi
Huge menu. Lots of sushi rolls many very unique. Big sashimi menu too. All we focused on but have lots of other choices. Sushi was fabulous with interesting sauces. Big specialty drink and sake menu. We loved it !
