The surprise pricing ruined the evening

By bigearslargeyes |

Great theatre location. Delicious food. Lovely service. I was about to give five stars and then the bill. We are not afraid to pay fairly for service and food and location. But really? $18.50 for a hand roll? A whole plate of sashimi was reasonably priced. Why throw this curve ball? My husband ordered a spicy Margarita ( hold the trappings). Essentially a shot of the spicy tequila. They charged us 8 dollars for the shot vs the actual cocktail. We are now leaving feeling ripped off when minutes before we were happy customers.

Amazing sushi, decor needs some work

By world_traveler_ct |

I've been to all three Sushi Seki locations, but this was my first visit to the Times Square location. The quality of the sushi is fantastic and is extremely consistent with all other locations. We took omakase and it was nothing short of perfection. The service deserves a special mentioning -- every person who came to our table was genuinely pleasant and professional. We were seated on the second floor in the dining room. While the first floor has great wood paneling, the dining room on the second floor is just four white walls with nothing on them. The room is begging for some wall art. This does not diminish in any way the quality of the food or service, but the room would look so much nicer if it was decorated (similar to 23d street location). We will certainly be back to Sushi Seki!

Very fresh and tasty

By JBella2015 |

Enjoyed the sushi and sashimi - very fresh. They had a special eggplant appetizer that was delicious too.

Excellent sushi

By SATraveller25 |

This restaurant offers an excellent selection of sushi and sashimi. We had the edamame, gyoza, and the special sushi dinner. What we liked: - Good attentive service - Really fresh sushi - Interesting toppings (I never had sushi with a tomato topping before) - Relaxed atmosphere What can be better: - A bit pricey

Very delicious sushi!

Amazing dinner! It was delicious and everyone was very kind. I had a very fun night with very tasty food! Would definitely recommend for going out with friends or family.

Fantastic sushi in Manhattan, the best in town for sure.

This is my favorite place for japanes in the amazing state of New york. totally love it. recommended. I have been going to this place since 2008. My all time favorite,

Solid but a bit overpriced

By alreadypacked001 |

Been to the upper east side restaurant many years in past and always thought highly of sushi Seki. First time back to NYC in 6 yrs and wanted to try their time square store. Food is excellent but my opinion is a bit overpriced. It's still very solid (go for the omakase dinner - you will be delighted).

Will I be going back? You betcha!

By Karin L |

I've been around the block a time or two - well, OK, several times - when it comes to Japanese food, so I'm not exactly a rookie. I can definitively say that this was some of the best Japanese food I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and so delicious. As the Terminator famously said, "I'll be back." PS - do make sure your wallet is full, however. Perfection does come with a price.

God awful! Horrendous service

By NivyM |

I barely write reviews, but our experience was so terrible that I must warn others! The server was rude uninformed and obnoxious. On the menu the restaurant charges 2$ for regular sriracha big first response when we asked for hot sauce was no we don’t have. The sushi chef was kind enough to over heat and instruct the server(of course we were charged for it!) They even charge for a quarter cucumber sliced (call it a side!!). Nonetheless we could read the menu and all this was clearly indicated. My 4 year old son asked for lobster sushi, the server went back and forth on prices. Similarly we asked for roe and we were rudely informed that the “side” price only applies if we order sushi with it (please note we had just ordered 2 plates of salmon nigiri…and a bunch of other stuff). I agreed to her ask for the menu price of 5$ instead of 3 and yet the server came back two mins later saying I need to charge more! At this point we were so sick of this nonsense of nickel and diming over dinner we just waited for our son (4 years old) to eat and let without our dinner. We still Paid a $140 bill so that should indicate to you that we were definitely not the ones nickel and diming. To top it all, a guy came and asked us “ how was the service” and then once we told him it was terrible just stared at us and did nothing to help. Bizarre! Avoid if you can.!

Accidental Dinning

By 860Vetman |

Not knowing where to go on a Saturday evening we stumbled upon Sushi Seki. What a great find it was. They offer a wide selection of choices sure to please most anyone. Our group of 4 had numerous items. We started off with basic Edamame which just spiked our appetites. From there we had a tuna roll, salmon roll and shrimp tempura roll. Not wanting to quit yet we then ordered tuna and king salmon sashimi. Mouth watering to say the least. Our final item was the Udon noodles, tempura style. Our evening ended sitting at the bar where the bartender did a fantastic job making some very unusual but extremely tasty drinks.

You Need a Game Plan Here

By Diver Dan |

This place below street level has 3 aspects: a normal sushi counter, dining areas both tables and communal, and finally, 5 seats directly in front of the kitchen. Where you sit depends on what you're having. There is omakase sushi/sashimi at the first counter, dining room for ordering off the menu and finally what we did, the combo omakase with cooked dishes (my Japanese wife thinks just sushi gets monotonous) which is 5 stools facing the open kitchen. First, the sake recommendations are a big up sell in the $120+ range. The omakase we had (a special occasion) was $155 and as expected, has several styles of cooking (all fish no meat). It is made in front of you along with the other cooked orders being called in. This does not include anything fried; I asked for a taste of tempura (3 pieces $10 extra). The final sushi course 5 pieces, is brought from the front counter. Everything good, nothing memorable. The head chef is Japanese and is somewhat personable but reserved, as is customary. With the sake I went downscale on ++ it came to $500 for 2 and I have to conclude, not worth it.

2-3 star food with 1-2 star service at 5 star prices

By Peter B |

First time visit tonight. Waiter (of which there were 5 in total, none of them coordinated with each other) taking our order suggested "Chef’s Selection"... "Our chefs will select the best fish of the day for you to experience". This selection which consisted of decent though highly unspectacular selection of sushi/sashimi came to USD 100+ per person for food only (ginger and seaweed salad all at fridge temperature). On top of that was added "20% service charge" with the customer friendly addition from another waiter that "no need to add service as included in the service charge". Altogether bill of USD 470 for 2 adults (inkl two beers) and one child, mediocre food, terrible service. Will not merit another visit and would not recommend to anyone

Restaurant week

By Senyum |

I always love Sushi Seki! The lower east and this restaurant are much better than the one in UES. This new restaurant has chic and clean decor. Definitely a great date place or for a good night out. My husband had the restaurant week lunch at $29. Great value. Earlier in the week we had gone to Morimoto and it was a disappointment with measly portions. I didn't go for the restaurant week menu at Seki as I love their signature deluxe sushi platter. It has all the delicious marinated sushi that you get at omakase. It's $45 but I think worth every dollar.

Simple and good

By Noemi V |

Excellent dishes: being an à la carte menu we preferred to take some serving dishes and some sushi rolls. We took Gyoza, Udon and 3 sushi rolls: all very simple and good! Good price for a not too expensive dinner, very kind staff.

Excellent Sashimi. Some of the best I have ever eaten in the USA!

By Kent D |

I eat sushi everywhere and after reading reviews, I decided to try Sushi Seki. Happily, it is a very traditional high-end sushi/sashimi restaurant. Several factors make Seki stand out. 1. The quality of the fish is superb, some of the best I have ever eaten in the US. 2. Seki grinds their own wasabi from the fresh root. Fresh ground wasabi is far superior to the usual wasabi paste made of horseradish, mustard flour, cornstarch and green food coloring. But very few places offer real wasabi, because wasabi root is extraordinarily expensive at $80/pound. 3. Seki makes their own egg tamago from scratch. 4. Seki serves fresh green shiso leaves with sashimi. The flavor of fresh shiso is sublime. Slightly pungent, grassy with hints of spearmint and basil. Fresh shiso leaves can cost up to $1 per leaf. It is one of my favorite parts of a sashimi meal. I began with a Naratotai Black very dry sake. Carafe $38 + one extra glass @ $20. I tried the Hijiki seaweed salad with lettuce and a creamy onion dressing ($8) I was skeptical about the sweet dressing but it was delicious, not overpowering and a very different twist on the traditional hijiki salad dressing of sesame oil and rice vinegar. The eel and cucumber hand roll ($10) was soft warm buttery eel and presented not in the traditional cone-shaped hand roll, but as a flat roll, open at both ends. I ordered all sashimi (two pieces of each fish averaging $10) and a bowl of white sushi rice. (I prefer brown rice but they did not offer it.) I was tempted by the Toro but I opted instead for the regular tuna ($10). It was sublime and tender, as good as some of the higher priced toro I have had at other places. I also ordered hamachi, amaebi sweet shrimp, king salmon, tamago and uni from Washington State ($18). Ika squid can often be chewy and tasteless. Their version was slighty parboiled, sliced in thin strips and tossed in a light sauce. Tender and tasty. Service was attentive and constant, but never intrusive. I sat at the bar directly in front of the main sushi chef Shin-San. He was also attentive, very friendly and asked me several times if everything was OK. All is all, this was one of the most satisfying sashimi dinners I have ever had. Of course, this quality is not inexpensive. My dinner, w sake, cost $180 before tip. Sashimi is one of the greatest pleasures of my life. So to me, a meal like this is worth every penny.

Excellent quality sushi

By Andrew d |

This was my third time as at onenof their restaurants. This time and the previous one was with my Japanese client. The ambiance is typical japanese restaurant nothing to write home about. However the sushi was divine. We shared some shumai and roasted eggplant to start. The shumai was so light not doughy at all. The eggplant was a small serving but with a very tasty dressing including sesame. Then i had the sushi sashimi combo which came with a excellent roll filled with rice avocado, spicy tuna and anothwr fish wrapped in cucumber. Delicious. Plenty to eat very very fresh sushi. My client concurred. Will definitely return

Great Sushi close to Times Square

By Naji 🇱🇧 |

The cousins and I had omakase and we were not disappointed. The fish was very fresh and some of the sauces, prepared by the chef himself, were truly divine. Would recommend this place to anyone who is an avid fan of sushi (and who happens to be in the area, too).

Very disappointing tasting menu

By Adr S |

We tried both sashimi and sushi omasake, which were just ok. We agree we would have paid 50 bucks for it, not 160 ... Sake was good and they had a fair choice Service was ok

A cute restaurant with wonderful service

By alirish |

On a recent trip to the city my local friend chose to dine here as he’s never had a bad meal before, and he was right. From the beautiful, feng-shui inspired entrance with soft toned wooden interior through to the fresh ingredients in the dishes and most polite of service, it was lovely experience. What I enjoyed most about the experience was that we were meeting a friend who lived in the city and had so much to catch up on but unlike in many restaurants where they want you in and out as quickly as possible, they was such experience here. We were sat on the ground floor at the back by the wall and chose our food with great knowledge by our waitress. Everything was so nicely presented with colour and great taste. We only drank water without meal and no desserts and the bill came to $80 which for the level of service and location, it was well priced.

Flavorful and quality sushi

By jswflights |

Seki Sushi has creative restaurant layout and includes rooms having a traditional Japanese style for larger parties. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. The service was a bit awkward in not getting orders correct. The restaurant has a more casual atmosphere. The yellowtail seemed to have the most flavor and is recommended. They had limited dessert choices.

My Vegan View - Sushi Seki

By beachpebbles47 |

After much deliberation we chose this spot with seemingly many veg options for me, the vegan, and my friend, who is not vegan. Unfortunately their veggie udon and soba are made in a fish broth so that was out. We had edamame (basic, no complaints) and kinpira gobo (fine) for an app. My friend had the sushi special platter and thought it was good and I had three veggie rolls - avo, hijiki salad and kanpayo squash. The rolls were good but maybe I wished for a tiny bit more of them. Veggie rollls are pretty basic so no amazing reviews although I was glad to see a variety and the salad roll was pretty good. They even had a vegan wine by the glass! The Gamay which I really enjoyed (twice). (Photos were after I dug in a bit because I can never remember to take the picture first). Service pretty good - we were seated a few minutes after 6:30 and walked into our show down the block at exactly 8pm. So keep that in mind if making reservations. All in all- decent vegan options and great wine.

Great food and service

By Lizzie |

Stumbled across this restaurant on our first night in New York, and very happy we did! The food was excellent, a good choice of dishes and friendly service. They were easily able to accommodate my partner’s gluten intolerance too.

Just what we were looking for.

By Markeen F |

Japanese is my comfort food. We were walking along with my 2 year old grand daughter and we came across sushi seki, my grand daughter is pretty picky when it comes to food...so I needed her to eat well before bed. Everything was prepared beautifully and it was good. Atmosphere was warm, clean and simple. Service was excellent. Sushi was good. My salmon teriyaki was delicious, which my grand daughter ate and I tasted.

In Search of Miso

By Frank D |

My wife and I went to Sushi Seki in search of Miso. Sushi Seki is very conveniently located near Times Square and is clean and somewhat modern looking. There were about 4 different types of Miso and also Udon in Miso. My wife had the Vegetable Udon while I had the Tempura Udon. We loved the Miso broth and also the Udon itself. It was simple and tasty. Watch out for the pepper powder you can add - it has a beautiful smokey taste but when you get to your miso broth the remaining pepper powder is there and wow is it hot! We can't wait to return and try other dishes. Overall A+

Very enjoyable dinner

By Cynthia K |

We enjoyed everything about our experience at this restaurant. The decor is lovely and the service was terrific. Our server was there when we needed her, but not hovering. She was very helpful in guiding our selections. Every piece of sashimi and sushi we ate was excellent, and we ate a lot! It was all so good. We will definitely be back when next we are in NYC. The restaurant is very convenient if you are in town to see a play, as we were. We haven't had the best of luck with restaurants in this particular area near Broadway, so were happy to find one we really loved.

1 Star is TOO high- this experience was short of criminal

By katiuska15 |

Full disclaimer, this review has NOTHING to do with the food. The review is ONLY a reflection of the atrocious service we experienced. Two of my friends and I went there, I didn't eat. They asked about the Special (fixed) and when one of my friends said she wasn't a fan of some of the fish that came in the special, the server said he could make the special with the fishes they would like and that's what he brought. Except that when the bill came he didn't charge us of the special but for the MOST expensive market price fish on the menu because "making the special work for us" was ordering a la carte, without even letting us know this is what he would do. When he explain that this was NOT what we ordered or how he sold it to us, he said there was nothing he could do. We said we couldn't pay and so he said we couldn't leave the restaurant. After 45 min in which he said the manager was at a Saturday 10:30PM meeting and couldn't come to solve this issue because "there was nothing he would do", me explaining that not allowing us to leave was kidnapping and also that we were willing to pay but ONLY for what was sold to us, not what was billed, someone - who I can only assume was a manager or was in a position of power- came to us, didn't introduce himself and in a very condescending and patronizing manner explained that this time he would do us the "favor" of giving us a discount but that we should know that specials "around the world" are always fixed. Be that as it may, even when we explain how his server just sold us a different special, he not once apologized for the inconvenience or 45 min of complete discomfort. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Customer service is clearly not of any importance at this place.

Amazing food, perfect for per theatre or just a nice high quality sushi dinner.

By lakesideruby |

Wonderful pre-theater place for my wife and I to go to. We usually have 8pm shows nearby so a 5:45 or 6pm reservation is perfect. Plenty of time enjoy our meal and walk a block or two to the show. The Sushi Deluxe dinner is VERY good. Nothing exotic or crazy, if you want to venture that way, get the omikase and tell them that you are not sqeemish (I am). IMHO: Hot foods that are a must: shumai and miso black cod. Sushi is amazing, if you want to pick out a few pieces, you cant go wrong and the semi-fatty toro is my favorite but there are so many wonderful combinations. The "Sushi Deluxe" has 9 or so pieces of sushi (or Shashi if u please) with a shrimp tempura roll (which make for a nice dessert). It has nice sauces that compliment the sushi in lieu of soy sauce for flavor. The sake menu is impressive. My wife likes hot sake and I like cold negori. We always are very happy with our selections. If you are a 2-some and/or on a date the Terrace is the place to be, and dining at the sushi bar is quite the experience too, especially if you go omikase!

Better sushi than some more famous Restaurant Row sushi restaurants

By RBAceo |

The sushi here is very good and reasonably priced. In fact, I'd say the sushi is better here than at Sushi of Gari down the block. Granted Gari is fancier and prettier sushi, but Sushi Seki's sushi is equally as good and fresh. The service is not so good. We waited a long time to place our order and waited longer for the appetizers to appear. Then our main dish came immediately after the appetizers arrived. No room on the table, and no apologies for messing up the timing. Drinks that never arrived were still on the bill. Overall, it's a very good place because of the food. The service is something one should be prepared for.

Exquisite

By Jorisvm |

We ate some appetizer specials and sushi & sashimi plates. All the food was exquisite, best Japanese food we ever ate. Friendly and helpful waiter and waitress. A must-go for sushi lovers!

Excellent quality sushi and great Sake selection

By ammrw |

The flagship Sushi Seki provides excellent quality sushi and a great Sake selection. Eat at the large Sushi bar upstairs.

Not my choice

By 1director |

Compared to all other Japanese restaurants I have eaten, I am sorry to say this was my least favorite ever. We were a large party and ordered a number of appetizers, yet we were all still hungry as the chicken skewers were small, the Negamaki very small and quite tasteless and the other appetizers nothing to even speak of. The Sushi was ordinary with too much rice and too little fish. The service was mediocre. They forgot my Sashimi until after we were all done, and while they did try and make it up by bringing complimentary tuna appetizers, it went to waste since everyone had already finished lunch and in the end I spent a fortune for this poor choice of a restaurant in my opinion. The only thing it has going for it are the private Tamami rooms so there is privacy for groups, business, etc.

Excellent black cod

By DeborahandAndy |

Beautiful setting and delicious food- Andy had the sushi dinner and I enjoyed the grilled miso black cod- started with a bowl of miso soup and shared the soft shell crab appetizer. Enjoyed the complimentary green tea at the end. Ecellent service

Enjoyable

By BizTraveller168 |

Decided to come here while walking Restaurant Row. Atmosphere was pleasant, they had my reservation, and even offered to check my bags. Sat at the counter, had hamachi Jalapeño, agedashi tofu, 3 pieces of Otoro sushi and a California roll. They also had an excellent selection of sake. Everything good nothing to complain about. The price is fair for what I had, but it turned out to be my most expensive meal for the trip, more than Wollensky. The Otoro and sake (I had a carafe) was 60% of the bill. Enjoyed myself thoroughly

Excellent Sushi - Perfect Before a Show

By Atlanta_GATravelgirl |

Had a wonderful meal with my friend and her daughter. Sushi was very fresh and the staff was awesome. Very gluten free friendly. Loved the food and the cocktails were excellent too.

Some really nice dishes here, you won't be dissappointed!

By Deb_Cole1969 |

It was a bit of a last minute thing, but they managed to squeeze my party and I in for dinner. I'm so glad they did as the food was amazing!

The Best Sushi in NYC

By JBentraveler |

After a long day, we decided to treat ourselves to some outstanding sushi. we started at the bar and had a few dozen of oysters from Washington and BC. They were excellent and served with some very unique drinks. Then to dinner at the sushi bar. We had at least 15 pieces of Sushi & Sashimi all custom made for us. Everything from octopus, mackerel, salmon, cod, buttered clams, scallops, eel, sea urchin, yellow tail, shrimp, squid and who knows what was served from the Chef’s Supreme Tasting Menu. Each item was delightfully seasoned to produce an explosion in your mouth of unique flavors. The quality of the fish and sea food was exceptional and the chef personalized everything. Truly an over the top experience and the best sushi.

Great fish, nice atmosphere

By Phil W |

You can always tell a great sushi restaurant if they have Japanese clientele. Well they do. The restaurant has an upstairs and downstairs like many restaurants on this block do. The food is very good, prices can be higher on main dishes but not too bad. Overall a great experience. I’ve been back here many times with friends who live in the neighborhood who can go anywhere.

Rises above the corner sushi bar

By Fineshmecker |

I am on a business trip. A friend suggested this place I was skeptical. But. I was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent sushi (I only ordered sushi) Some of the items were very original. The Toro was high quality. A bit pricey. I swiped $165 per person for a modest order and beer. But it's good and it's NY I will be back

The Best Sushi Ever

By MIKGC45 |

I was visiting NYC and my friend who lives in NYC took me here for dinner. It had been a long day and my iPhone was dead..when I entered the restaurant I asked the host if there was a spare iPhone charger....instead they have a phone check in service...you leave your phone and collect it when it is charged. Great idea!! But this review should be about the food...which was amazing! We sat at the Sushi bar and ordered the service where the chef makes whatever he wants and you eat it. One piece of sushi at a time, with an explanation of the ingredients, the chef was a master! If you ever reached for the soy sauce the chef would send daggers your way! The food is so fresh with such great flavors that to drown it in soy sauce was a no-no. One of my best meals ever! Go and eat there if you love Sushi!

Very Good Sushi

By 510mark510 |

We visited late one night with our kids after a show. We are big sushi / raw fish fans and everyone enjoyed the meal. Fish was very fresh and the wait staff helpful. That was a good thing because there were many items on the menu we needed decoded for us, and they were more than willing to help.

Excellent

By RetiredNLuvinIt_11 |

Truly top notch sushi with innovative toppings. I never imagined one could do anything to improve bluefin tuna, but they did. Portions small, but sushi excellent. Great sake selection as well.

Excelleny

By Sharonam318 |

Came with our 16 year old daughter for her birthday. Ordered the chefs sushi special. It was excellent, very fresh and our server was excellent.

Excellent sashimi

By sdgt625 |

The food - excellent . I ordered the sashimi plate for dinner - which came with five kinds of fish . I am not a fan of Spanish mackerel usually , but the Spanish mackerel sashimi on that platter was so tasty ... all the other fish was fresh and tasty as well The setting - very pleasant - roomy dining rooms , calm , zen feel The service - interesting . Lots of servers, even at 23:30 at night . My server started off not being the most friendly , but warmed up tad the evening went on . He even made me a vodka based cocktail that was not on the menu when he saw that I was indecisive about the choice of my second cocktail for the evening . I would not hesitate to recommend this place !

Would definitely return when in the Theater District

By KJC93 |

Good location with a fun vibe, a short walk from Time Square. Chef’s selections were very creative and delicious. Servers were very informative.

Moms Dinner

By Janet M |

I can never go for sushi anywhere else after trying Chef Seki's Omakase! We sat in a private tatami room and had excellent service. The setting was very authentic and the sushi was the highest quality I ever had. The seasoning and originality was great and we enjoyed a fantastic sake pairing as well as seasonal cocktails to start. I would highly recommend this conveniently located midtown location.

Very good sushi near Times Square

By Truegoy |

Great place, lacks a little atmosphere but you won’t be disappointed with the quality of ingredients. Slightly on the premium side for value but in the area that’s going to top the list. No loud music and great service..

Great Sushi, Lovely enviornment

By NYCshopper |

It was a rainy cold Monday evening and we stumbled upon Sushi Seki on Restaurant row located by all the Broadway plays etc. The appetizers were fresh and delicious and our sushi was of quite high quality. We eat some pretty wierd things like Sea urchin and Toro and everything they served us was fresh and delicious. Prices were not bad at all for the high quality and good service. We would most definitely recommend and go back to this place. Remember, Dowstairs is their open kitchen for people who eat cooked Japanese and upstairs is the traditional sushi bar......However you can order anything in either location. Really something for everyone, even non sushi eaters. Cheers!

Wow! Talk about Sashimi!

By Guadalupe777 |

Wow! What an amazing experience enjoying the quality of their sashimi! Even the hot green tea at the end was exquisite. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fine culinary experience. Did I mention the impressive selection of Sake? I had the Urakasumi CRF.

Our Favorite Pre-Theatre Restaurant

By Darcyclinton |

Our second visit in three weeks was just as wonderful as our first. Our first visit was for ourJapanese granddaughter who was craving gyoza. We all loved everything that was suggested and couldn’t wait for a return visit. Every meal each of us has had has been wonderful. The service is excellent from knowledgeable waitstaff. Our new favorite pre-theatre restaurant.

Good food - slow service

By Pizzaexplorer |

I'd rate this place a three and a half, food was tops, good stuff. But when it came to getting our food was, it extremely slow! And they were not crowded. I had the Gyoza and yakitori and my wife had the poke with avocado. Great food when we got it.

Pre theatre valentine's dinner

By Leslie M |

Confusing, I know. Valentines dinner with the kids, but Aladdin was to be the highlight of our trip so the whole fam had to eat. Unfortunately my wife did not enjoy the meal as much as the rest of us. Her crab and fried rice had no crab but cubes of other mystery seafood and the sautéed mushrooms were vinegary and cold. Luckily the top grade tuna was amazing ($18/piece) and the hamachi jalapeño went down easily. The kids' rainbow and shrimp tempura rolls were enjoyed as was the edamame and fried chicken thighs. The edamame shumei was not. My miso soup was good and the miso cod was better than average but not up to Matsuhisa standard. Service was good and we were out in time for the show but not the start to the evening we had hoped for. Not inexpensive either. Lots of restaurants in NYC, so next time we'll go elsewhere.

Very good service and sushi

By SZ2013 |

3 diners, we each enjoyed our sushi dinners . We would all go back again. Conveniently located near the theatre we were going to.

Hmmm...impeccable service...but...

By honestNUfanfromIA |

Cool setting and solid service staff. Where were the specialty rolls? How were they out of all draft beers? Spicy tuna was as "special" as we could find. Really? I would venture elsewhere. Feel like we missed something.

Very good sushi

By Traveler_Eyal |

Sushi Seki Times Square serves reallly good sushi. It is a bit pricey but fairly authentic, as it is managed by a sushi chel from Japana.

Drink Special

By Jennifer V |

We only went for drinks at the bar. The happy hour was very reasonable, and the bartender was a sweetheart. She was knowledgeable and fun.

Wow. And wow.

By pgworld |

We needed a place to entertain business associates who love Japanese food, and were staying in a hotel close to Times square. We were extraordinarily fortunate to discover Sushi Seki, Right on restaurant Row. But a world away from all the predictable Italian restaurants in the area. What a refined, elegant, scrumptious experience. I have never had sushi this fresh – absolutely melted in your mouth. The service is incomparable. But the real wow factor is the chef himself. Congratulations Chef Seki on a really impressive meal!

Fantastic Start to Finish

By soul_surfer |

Sushi Seki is a great restaurant in a very competitive segment - high end sushi. I found the presentation, the selection, and the taste of the pieces to be on par or superior to all of the finer sushi/sashimi spots in NYC. I highly recommend the omakase (4 plates, a hand roll, and dessert). You will not be disappointed.

One of our favorites

By Erol T |

Great food and great selection of Junmai Dai Ginjo sakes. You are lucky if Seki San is there behind the counter and treating you with his great Omakase.

Very Expensive for Mediocrity

By KJM-NYC |

Being a foodie and always in search for great sushi, what a disappointment it was for me and my husband to dine at this place last night in the heart of the theatre district before seeing a play. We are New Yorkers. We are used to getting ripped off. 2 pieces of Octopus was $36. Uh...really? 2 toro scallion handrolls were $18 each. If it's stupendous, I am a willing consumer as these are the prices one must endure in New York City for great sushi. But $215 for 2 people, 2 glasses of wine each and still feeling slightly hungry? Skip this place completely and if you are looking for great sushi goto Sushi of Gari UWS, Nobo 57 or Nobu Downtown and Blue Ribbon for the same price. If looking for great sushi in Times Square, skip it as it's not possible!

Best sushi I've had

By Rula A |

I have been to many sushi resturants in NYC, London, Dubai etc and I can say by far this is one of the top 3 I have ever eaten. Fish was fresh and amazing. We had the tasting menu sushi and everything Was spectacular. We had different fish as well as spices and sauces on them. Was a great experience!

Tasty sushi and attentive service

By David H |

We tried the special sushi dinner with a slight twist as my good friend had a shellfish allergy. The chef was fully accommodating and made two different but both excellent sushi platters. The fish quality was very fresh and the subtle toppings on each piece of sushi added zest and flavor. The service was attentive and friendly but not overwhelming. There are a number of creative cocktails with unusual ingredients (the one we tried was a bit tangy but tasty) and a great number of sakes and some well select wines from around the world. Definitely a very good sushi restaurant and not so busy that reservations are mandatory.
