Weird atmosphere but a good feed

By K0okie |

Whilst looking for a place to eat before heading to a show, we were enticed into this place by the three course $25 dollar menu and the nice chap outside the door. We were given a nice booth by the window and informed of the drinks happy hour. Oddly, although it was 2 for 1 drinks it was "per person" which meant that we couldn't order 2 drinks and have one each; we had to order 4 and have 2 each if that makes sense! They served one round at a time though so at least we weren't sitting there with 2 glasses of wine each on the table at the same time. One of the servers seemed to know her stuff but the other girl wasn't very knowledgeable and the first question we asked (what the soup of the day was) she didn't know the answer and in general she just seemed uncomfortable which made for a weird atmosphere throughout. The food was nice though, and the set menu had a good choice for starter and main and there was chocolate brownie for dessert so can't complain! From reading other reviews this place sounds lively and fun but we were in rather early so did not witness this. It was a good pre theatre for us. I wish there was a "good" option as I would say above average but not quite 4 stars; however since there is not I have given 4 as the food is of good quality and value.

Great supper and Jazz club

By Kelly H |

On a recent couples trip we dropped by Swing 46 and Supper Club. During our visit we listened to a great jazz band with male vocalist. We had cocktails and shared a crab cake. There are several areas in the restaurant that does not require a cover charge. However, we paid the cover charge to be close to the band and take advantage of the free dance lesson included with the cover charge. What a fun night!!!

Guy outside is an idiot

By Kerry553 |

The food was not bad but the guy outside trying to get people in was annoying. If you asked anything all he would answer if it ain't got a swing you ain't got a thing. He would of said it dozens of time. So sitinside so you don't hear it.

Restaurant Row Great

By Rachel N |

Hubby and I went here in between a matinee and evening show for the prix fixe meal advertised on their menu. The restaurant is really cool. It's decorated like an old jazz club with a speak-easy feel. The prix fixe menu was great and an affordable price. The food was a good sized portion and we left feeling full. We both got the hanger steak- it was amazing. The brownie option for dessert was incredible too. Super gooey and delicious. I read that people thought the food was overpriced; I assume they ordered from the a la carte menu. We looked at it and the price for the hanger steak was the same as the whole prix fixe meal, so I could understand if they thought it was a lot of money. The prix fixe meal is the way to get the best bang for your buck and the food was DELICIOUS. The staff was quietly attentive, never hovered, and very kind.

A Restaurant Row Fave

By Shelli F |

I have visited Swing 46 on several visits to NYC. My food has always been great! I even brought a group here and the staff took very good care of us. Music has always been top notch. I highly recommend a visit.

We liked the food but we loved the music and dance. This restaurant was the basis for a perfect night on the town

A Piece of NYC that is memorable.

By rnm1126 |

NYC is an irresistible attraction for us. Swing 46 is a good part of that attraction. We were hooked on our first visit about ten years ago on my birthday (Nov.26). We make this fun place one of our regular stops every year, sometimes several times a year. We come alone or we bring friends and family to show them a unique piece of the original NYC nightlife. The primary reason is the music: swing, jazz performed by quality musicians and singers. We've eaten dinner in the main dining area and paid an additional cover charge to dance. We've also sat in the bar area with drinks only listening to the music. No cover charge to listen. Other nights had drinks and food opposite the bar. You can watch the dancing on a closed circuit TV in the bar area. The food is standard fare but the charm and experience is a piece of NYC that is memorable. We'll be back.

Steak and Seafood Splendor

By 366SandyM |

Our Best of New York tour guide suggested we check out Restaurant Row for our after tour dinner meal. We decided on Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club, partly because of its three course, fixed price menu and full menu options. My husband chose the Angus Hanger Steak for his entree. For my appetizer, I chose the Prince Edward Island Mussels, and for my entree, the Seared Scallops with Bacon. The prices were what we expected for a fine dining establishment, but we were pleased to have arrived in time for "Happy Hour" and its two-for-one specials. While the live music didn't start until later, there was jazz playing softly in the background. It was a perfect ending to our first trip to New York.

Great place for a fun night out in New York

By Amanda H |

Came here after a theatre trip. Booked in advance, so we got a great table near the dance floor. Music was great - the band, Swingadelic, played fantastic music and it was brilliant to watch people dancing - some obvious beginners, and some real experts. The shrimp pasta was delicious and the cocktails went down a treat. A really fun night with a friendly crowd. And to top it all, my boyfriend proposed to me! A real night to remember.

This is just THE best in the City

By Tootsielala55 |

Whether you love jazz, love to dance or simply want one of the best ever meals that does not cost a kabillion dollars this is THE place to go. Want a lovely meal before the theater? Swing 46 is your place. Want something light after the show? Swing 46 is the way to go. Don't want fancy schmancy but do want a great drink and a place to enjoy people? Swing 46 in the answer. Love to dance Swing? There you are, right there. Always a good band to enjoy and dance. Not sure you CAN dance? Don't fret, come in and take a lesson and then jump right in! Alone in the City and concerned about venturing out alone? Not to worry. Have gone there alone many many times and always felt safe and comfortable. In fact, once left my wallet there. They found it, put it in the safe and called me. In NYC? You betcha! Everything was there. The only thing touched was my business card they used to track me down. You have so very many places to check out when you are in the City. It can be overwhelming. Not to worry. Start at Swing 46.It may become the only place for you to be, it certainly is for me! .

Great place

By chefcruiser |

Had good food, good service, good ,live entertainment, a very nice meal, especially the ribs, would go back for sure.

Private Party

By Tinyte13 |

We went here for a private party. It was ok. The murder mystery was entertaining but I thought was were going to get some clues to solve it rather than just finding out who did it but some of the characters were so much fun. Service, I was surprised since the drinks were included how quickly refills were delivered. As for the food, it was ok. The portions could have been larger. The hanger steak I liked but I am pretty sure the mashed potato were out of a box. Had the chocolate mousse for dessert, tasted it and decided to pass. Wasn't crazy about the flavor. Bathrooms are disgusting. Overall murder mystery was fun but I don't think I would go back.

Not "all that"

By Nicola M |

I was expecting more given the $20 cover charge per person upon entering. The food was low standard and overly priced! The drinks were also a lot more expensive than they should have been. Service was ok but an automatic service charge at the end is not ok! Then you must put your jacket in the cloak room, and guess what?... your charged for it! The band was nothing special, old guys playing really old stuff! I felt it was a tourist trap, all about getting money from you! Would I go back? NO and I'd not recommend anyone else to bother going either!

A wonderful night out

By Sharbeaux |

We fell into this club by chance. I knew I had to find somewhere for dinner rather than run around all over NY looking for a place we liked. I found it online and made a reservation. We had a terrific table and a piano jazz trio was just completing their set. We started dancing immediately. Ordered a bottle of wine and dinner but we were not rushed. The wine came chilled and both dinners were excellent. Then the band changed and we found the place filling up. We spent the night on the dance floor surrounded by many other wonderful people. What a terrific night!

Excellent

By FabrizioP82 |

Higly suggested, had great dinner surrounded by good music and then dance. We ll get back next time in NY

Swing 46 Good Theater District Bar and Dance Venue

By etelnj |

Pleasant room for swing dancing and bar to have a drink and listen to nightly array of live big bands. Truly friendly oasis (and no cover or min at bar) within the theater district "ambiance."

Great time out

By Oleg A |

We had a great time at Swing 46... Like with a magic wand, you are transferred into New York 50-60 years ago. The band, the music and the singers were great, well worth the $15 cover charge. And the free swing dancing lesson is a nice touch (thank you Brian!) - you cannot learn swing in 20 min, but you definitely get your initial steps and break the ice. The food was decent, even though a bit overpriced - but hey, it is NYC/Times Square, and the portions were generous. But really, it is a place to come for the music and the experience - we had a great time and felt very welcome

BEST NIGHT OUT

By Joy Taylor |

My friend and I only went for the music and we had the time of our lives. I danced the night away with some of the best men I have ever had the pleasure of swing dancing with. It was the highlight of my trip to N.Y.C.

Terrible food, average band, flat beer

By Laurence L L |

The food was awful. Flavourless lasagne with no seasoning and tasted rubbery like it had been microwaved. The sauce it came swimming in was also like tasting water. The salad was overpowered by blue cheese. The cheesecake tasted off. The beer choices are severely limited and the one i chose was flat and for some reason came garnished with a slice of orange? The waiter was rude and affected our night. He chose to give himself an 18.5% tip when we would have given him the minimum possible if we had a choice. The band was very average too and for some reason stop after an hour to eat dinner (it’s our Friday night and we paid to watch and dance to a band all night). Very disappointing. The previous night we went next door to a piano bar and it was a million times better in all aspects. Also, no WiFi.

The best Jazz and dining experience in NY

By Arlyn V |

Visited for dinner and Jazz. Live Jazz with Harlem Reinassance Orchestra on stage. Jazz dancing class previous to presentation. The dancers which are locals, gave a great show of what it means enjoying jazz and life itself. The service was great and the dinner selection was excellent. Had a steak and some appetizers and it was perfectly cooked to the requested grade. A must if you love Jazz, great music, good environment and delicious meals, plus drinks and good company.

awesome dinner and music

By klikesfins |

On the last night of our trip to New York, we were looking for somewhere with live music. Could not have chosen a better spot. We were there around 7:30 and were seated right down by the stage. Happy hour until 8, gave us buy one get one glass of wine. We were happy. The four of us split 3 appetizers and 2 entrees. At 8ish, a free swing dance class started. Fun to participate and watch. The George Ghee Band was playing that night, a ten piece swing band. Awesome. The highlight of the evening was having Dawn Hampton in attendance. She was and is a fantastic swing dancer. At the age of 89 she was a treat to see on the dance floor. Service was friendly and attentive. Very nice way to end our trip to the Big Apple.

Dancing Like a Star

By Ciganinha |

Wonderful finding, we were wondering around, looking for a fun and good place to hear jazz and swing music, and found this hidden jewel right on 46th St. Excellent band, floor dancing big enough to have fun dancing, martinis were very good and so were the food. I definitely go back next time I'm in New York

Birthday !

By Zindo Mesquita |

I had a lovely birthday here tonight Every Wednesday they do jazz night with a lovely band all night ... So all I needed for my birthday ... The food is good too and service is impeccable .... Lived it !!!!

Really good!

By FrenchSnail |

We spent two nights here during a recent holiday to New York. Very enjoyable evening with good music and service, and a brilliant atmosphere. Female waitress was super friendly and helpful and made us feel very at home. Food good and value for money although drinks were a bit pricey - could do with a better beer selection if I was being critical. We all had a great time and will go back next time we stay on 46th Street.

Great atmosphere and excellent food

By LTT30 |

Went here on 18th December the night before my 30th birthday. After an extremely busy day we decided to go and eat somewhere a bit different and we found Swing 46. The service was very good and there was enough to chose from on the menu. We decided against the $25 set menu and just went straight into the main. We ordered 2 steaks, pork chop and shrimp pasta and all the dishes were very tasty. The music was excellent and the atmosphere was buzzing. We decided to go again 2 nights later as the steak was so good. I had the scallops wrapped in bacon which were beautiful. If you are going to give this restaurant a try I would suggest you go after 20.30 when the music seems to start.

Learn how to dance swing

By AlineD2010 |

This place is absolutly fantastic! We took a dance class and the live band is outstanding, they have different bands everyday, everyone is really friendly.

Brillant

By joelw4507 |

Food was great, a set menu which was also good value. The band and dancing was amazing, certainly go back on my next trip to New York

Average Restaurant

By Melitta B |

Ate there on a Sunday evening. We had steak, creamed potatoes, salad and sorbet. The food and the service were average.

A little pricey, but great fun

By Lynn E |

The food here is very, very good, but it's the atmosphere that makes it worth the visit. in a city teeming with entrtainment opportunities, I'd make this one a must do if you like big band/ swing music. Authentic 40's nightclub atmosphere. We really enjoyed the fabulous music of Swingadelic and watching the dance experts. Our waiter was a little snooty and didn't seem happy that one light-eating member of our party ordered an appetizer for dinner and I thought he was pleased. ALSO, BEWARE if you go on certain music nights, there is a $10 per person cover charge, even if you just come in to dine and leave. They really need to tell you this up front (we had advance reservations.) Nevertheless, it's a great place for good food, great music, and a unique experience.

Amazing place for live (big band) music

By pence30 |

We just went by the place and the music invited us in to have some beer at the bar. It is possible to have a table in the music hall as well if you want (and they have available tables). Nice staff, amazing musicians and singers. Felt like being back in the 50-60s!

A fun Date Night left us wanting more.

By MTBFAM |

Went to Swing 46 for its weekly Thursday night "Date Night," really excited to go to a cabaret style restaurant offering dinner, live music, and dancing. We enjoy ballroom, Latin, and swing dancing (we are borderline intermediate level), and there are surprisingly few venues of the sort in NYC or it's suburbs. Swing 46, right in the heart of Times Square, offered us an opportunity to swing dance (and fox trot) to a live band in an authentic, swanky supper club setting. The place is really a throwback to an earlier era, and even if you don't dance, the ambiance and music are still really cool. The seating is arranged so that everyone is facing the dance floor and the stage. The six-piece jazz band that played that night, Felix and the Cats, accompanied by a couple of old-time blues/standards singers who alternated throughout the night, was awesome, although the majority of the songs they played were a bit more suitable for the two kinetic and free spirited Lindy Hoppers, who barely sat down the whole night, than East Coast swingers like us. Nonetheless, we had our opportunities to dance, and the place seemed nonjudgmental and non-intimidating for first timers or beginners, although that could be because it was a "Date Night" crowd. On the other hand, it also seemed that most people getting up to dance were people who had some inkling or experience (however minimal) with ballroom or swing dancing. To that end, the dance lesson started much later than advertised, and although it was basic for us, I think they should have done it earlier and worked harder to encourage some of the non-dancers to take part. I understand that Tuesday nights bring the top-flight dancers, and Friday and Saturday nights are more crowded. The food was good, not great, but because I made my reservation online for "Date Night," we were limited to a fixe prix menu. $75 for a 3 course dinner for 2 (salad, entree, dessert) with a bottle of wine, and a quick beginner swing lesson included. I had the flank steak with mashed potatoes, and my wife had the salmon over rice. Both dishes were serviceable, as was the bottle of Merlot we ordered. The waitress was attentive and friendly and began serving us as soon as we arrived at 7 o'clock, our reservation time. The place was fairly empty at first, but continued to fill up as diners arrived throughout the night, some of whom did not look like they had reservations. Ultimately, about two thirds of the tables were filled, and the dance floor never got very crowded. In retrospect, we probably could have opted to order off of the regular menu and order our own drinks, but the simplicity of the whole prix fixe Date Night menu was fine for our first time there. I'm not sure if I would limit myself like that again, though. We had a great time and will definitely return.

Unpleasant Experience Due to Rude Boss/Owner at the Restaurant

By Zena S |

It is important for any establishment, especially a restaurant, to have a positive and respectful work environment! Not in Swing 46! We were sitting at the bar and a man ( with a hat) who we found out was an owner was rude unprofessional and disturbing. He was constantly rude to the staff using profound words in front of the customers. Very said that we had to leave and couldn't listen to great music... I would definitely report him to NYC Consumer Affairs!!!!!

Wow - great place and great music

By Rupert P |

From the welcome at the door to the service at the bar and the fantastic music there is nothing we did not enjoy here - thanks guys and would recommend to anyone looking for great ambience and superb music and a fun night out in New York

Fun atmosphere - good food

By Susan K |

We were here for a catered event. They had a surf and turf buffet set up which was good. There is an area for swing dancing, including staff to help you with a free lesson. There is a large bar and plenty of seating. Had an enjoyable time.

Saturday Night Fun

By Derek R |

It was Saturday night in NYC and we just had to do something different. A dinner / dance evening out seemed like a good idea so we went for it. What we got was a nice dinner and fun in spades. Service on the way in could have been better though. There is a $20 cover charge per person on entry. That seemed a bit of a shock to some people who clearly didn't know, maybe partly because the lady on the door just asks for it as you've stepped in - kind of "Hi, welcome, can I have $20 each please". I think some decided to turn around at that point so the management may wish to review their welcoming process... The food was very nice, kind of traditional with a twist - we had calamari, lamb, pork and it was all very nice, but to be fair we weren't really there for the food this time - it was more about the overall experience. We arrived at 8 and were seated and ordered - then the waiter asked if we were having the dance lesson at 9. This was a little shock for my wife as she didn't realise that a lesson was involved. We said yes and the main course was held over for us until later. Sure enough, 9 o'clock arrived along with a professional dance instructor. We then had an impromptu 30 minute dance lesson before the band and our mains arrived. The rest of the evening was spent trying (with limited success) to dance, listening to the swing band, enjoying the rest of our dinner, and also watching the other dancers. I have to say that this joint attracted some pretty good dancers and I was as happy to watch them as to be on the floor myself. So, to summarise... Did we have a good evening? Most definitely. Was the meal good? Yes it was. Was it good value? If you measure it by just the food then no but compared with another type of night out in NYC (e.g. theatre) then definitely. Finally, would I recommend it? If you just want to go and eat then you will probably be better off elsewhere because you can eat as well more cheaply but if you want an experience in the city then go for it - but take plenty of cash (about $100 per person).

Highly recommend

By twinklewitch |

My husband and I discovered this little club completely by accident while walking through Manhattan. What a lucky accident. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel very welcomed by Steve and Jonathan. The drinks are great and very reasonable pricing too. We loved it so much we made a reservation for Saturday night when they had a live band playing. We had a fabulous night, food that was five star and danced the night away to a fab band. They have live musicians most days so would definitely recommend you take a look for yourself. We will definitely be back again next time we’re in NYC.

Dining, Dancing and Having Fun!

By John B |

I did not know what to expect, as I have never been here before. I wanted Dinner and Dancing.. And I got exactly what i wanted and more... It is a cozy club, not large, but big enough, we had a table for 4. We got there early in the evening about 7 and had dinner, very few people in the dinning area at that time. The musicians started showing up and setting up, and at 8 ish the music began, and It was great. Impossible to not move your feet, as swing music just takes you over. After two sets, a dance instructor came out to give, anyone interested, some dance lessons, most of the people in the club came on the dance floor, and it was wonderful, great tips, lots of fun. In recap, Good Food, Good Drinks, Fantastic Band, and wonderful dancing. What a great time in the Big Apple.

Swing 46 is a Must When Visiting NYC!

By cream78 |

I absolutely love this jazz club! We enjoy an evening at this establishment every time we visit NYC. Great location in the theater district. Entertainment-The entertainment is top notch and visiting this restaurant is an unusual thing to do when visiting NYC. We saw Swingadelic and were so impressed with this ten piece band. They played classic jazz hits by Count Basie and Duke Ellington. The $15 entertainment cover charge is well worth it for excellent bands! Dance lessons- Our dance instructor Stephanie, was super patient with people who have never swing danced before. We had a great time learning some basic moves and dancing. It's a fantastic couples night out! Dinner- The food and drinks are very reasonably priced. I recommend the coconut shrimp appetizer. The filet was wonderful with sautéed fresh vegetables. The Rigatoni and shrimp is only $28 for those on a tight budget.

Excellent music and dancing, overpriced food.

By singbach |

The music and dancing is tops at this place. The food we had was okay at best, and incredibly overpriced. Since we ordered the "special", I didn't expect it to be $33. It's worth it to pay the cover if you like big band music and dancing...just eat someplace else first.

New Years Eve Bomb

By Vincent B |

We were sold a $200 per person New Years Eve party with open bar, hor d’oeuvres and live music and dancing until 2 am. We did not also buy the dinner. The seating, if you didn’t have dinner (and for some who did) was abysmal. To accommodate additional dinners it looked as it tables were added to the dance floor which became pretty small as a result. The band was not very good - the best music came on their breaks when canned music was used. The hor d’oeuvres were terrible - a small variety and I am pretty sure they would give you all you wanted but then you need terribly hungry people with faulty taste buds. The band got a big plate of them at the break but they were almost all not eaten. The drinks were good except for the wine by the glass - but can one drink $200 worth per person. Save your time and money. Oh and although the diners got New Years hats etc we got nothing.

Fun night out

By ,Jodi O |

I went with my family for the first time. My parents took lessons and danced all night while my siblings and I enjoyed a verity of cocktails. excellent. Service was great and our waitress had a great energy. The food was ok and very expensive! Not worth it. But its a place you go to for the band and atmosphere. Overall we had a really good time. I will definitely go back!

Great spot

By Judy E |

Looking for a dinner spot without reservations can be tough in NYC. A tour guide recommended Swing 46. We were able to be seated around 5:30pm on a Saturday without a reservation. We chose the price fixe menu and were totally delighted with our meal. Salad/soup, entrée & dessert for $25. Also as it was happy hour it was 2 for 1 drinks. For $40 I had a great dinner of hangar steak which was delicious and 2 gin and tonics. Can't beat it. After 8:30pm there is swing dancing which we were told is quite enjoyable.

Pleasant enough pre-theatre

By sanvegas489 |

We visited here for a pre-theatre meal after looking at all the options on 46th between 8th and 9th and deciding their pre-theatre menu looked most appealing. We enjoyed our meals, but overall thought our experience here was just ok. Firstly we were told most drinks were 50% off by the very nice fellow who was outside tempting diners to come in. Together with the $25 pre-theatre this sounded like a good place to be! It was only when we were ordering our drinks that it was explained that the offer was 2 drinks for the price of 1, and you couldn't share so you had to have 2 each. Not a major problem as we knew we would likely have 2 drinks, I just didn't like the trickery involved. However if it hadn't been for their odd rules we would probably have had a third drink, but as we had a show to get to we didn't want to have a 4th, so this deal may backfire on them at times. There seemed to be 2 girls serving us. One who was very nice and friendly and the other who didn't seem to know her stuff. First of all she didn't know what the soup of the day was. And she didn't do a very good job in explaining it to us once she found out - "It's like clam chowder" me - "oh, it's fishy?" Her - "no, it's not like it that way, it has corn in it". Hmm. Ok. I decided just to chance it and see what I got. I've since been told this is a normal question to ask, but it confused me greatly at the time - on ordering salmon I was asked how I liked it cooked. I didn't really know how to respond so was asked how I like my steak cooked. Apparently it's one answer fits all. I had it well done and it was fine. As always dessert was good and thankfully led to no further discussion. I get the feeling we didn't see Swing 46 at its Jazz time best. While the food was nice I was too put off with their Happy Hour rules and confusing menu chat to become a fan so would be unlikely to recommend it to anyone I know heading to NYC.

Great entertainment, not so great food

By taysak |

We arrived around 10 o'clock with a large group and were seated promptly. The atmosphere was wonderful, everyone applauding the band and dancers. Unfortunately, the food was expensive and not great. The steak was tough and sides were average. Would return for the bar and dancing, skip dinner.

Lovely evening

By MH E |

We had read about this bar and went one evening. There is a cover charge of $15 for a table in the dance room, but free to sit at the bar. There was no dress code, as we had read about. Music and atmosphere was good. If you like live jazz & swing music & dancing, then give this place a visit.

Boring, old school, expensive

By angmohgao |

I suffered through two hours of this place. The music the night I was there was just horrible. I expected so much more based on what I had heard. Finally we just walked out. I won't be going back.

Food was not good

By TravelBug123 |

Positives: neat quaint place. Enjoyed sitting outside Buy one get one drinks Welcoming staff Food presentation was pretty. Negatives: Food was bland and less than average "Steak" was roast beef Mashed potatoes tasted instant. Brussel sprouts very bitter. Brownie tasted nothing like a brownie and had a cigarette taste Overall, I do not recommend, especially for the price.

Gin and Jazz!

By Ckline95 |

Excellent little jazz and swing place. Live music every day of the week with full dance floor. If you're like me, just hang at the bar, enjoy the music and watch the folks dancing. Casual, laid back and a lot of fun. Not loud...yes, you can actually talk to your date without yelling. Say hi to Eric if he's tending bar. Awesome guy.

Come to dance not to eat

By Lolly’s Look |

A group of friends decided to finally give this place a try. We made reservations for 8:30 and planned to have dinner before the lessons and show. The menu and food were lackluster. The entrees were "adequate". They were edible but not enjoyable. The dance lessons and swing music were fun. We wished we had dined elsewhere and just came for the drinks and dancing.

Great meal, fun time

By Illysa I |

Great meal, fun time, cool place, great service. We were 10 people and the restaurant had no trouble bringing us our meals all at the same time. The music was great but full disclosure: our niece was playing :). I would go again even without her on the stage.

Fun and Romantic

By WT Goldman |

I went when the Harlem Rennasaince Orchestra was playing. Everything from the orchestra, to the food, the drinks, and service was absolutely fantastic. I went with a date, they gave us a table with a romantic setting, we had a few cocktails including their pear tree martini, absolutely delicious and smooth. The environment was fun without subtracting from the romanticism. There were a handful of people dancing of all ages and it was quite entertaining to watch. The food was of great quality and not wallet-busting. I'm already planning on returning in the coming weeks and being a bit of a regular there.

An absolute delight!!!

By Amanda J |

We only really went to this club as it was right next door to the hotel, it was completely empty and we started to wonder if we would regret our choice - hell no! It filled up really quickly, the staff were so friendly and the food was excellent! However the best part was the band who were amazing, the name eludes me at this time. This was the kind of experience I hoped to have in NYC but didn't expect to find - a definite highlight with a free swing lesson to boot! Thank you Swing 46 - don't ever change!!

A blast!

By jandn |

First of all, I didn't eat here. My son brought me here after a play on Broadway for the music and dancing. The music was terrific and we danced until 1:30 AM. I recommended this to a friend who went there last week (10/12) with her 3 girlfriends. She said they ate there and the food was good but the highlight was the rest of the evening. They had a dance lesson at 8 PM and the instructors danced with them until the wee hours. She said that since she had been to NYC numerous times and had seen the sights, this was the absolute highlight of her trip. It's a very unique experience and lots of fun dancing as well as watching some very good dancers.

Not bad but not great either

By kiwikid1110 |

On our last night in New York we chose Swing 46 having wandered around in the snow for a little while checking out a few different restaurants. We'd got to a point were we just wanted some warmth!! We chose Swing 46 as they had a fixed price menu for $25 but when seated we weren't offered this just the dinner menu and having looked at the choice we decided to go with it. For starters I had the mini beef wellington and my wife had the coconut shrimp, both well cooked and enjoyable enough. Mains consisted of maple glazed double cut pork chop and the angus steak, again it was nice enough but didn't have a wow factor we'd experienced at the Market Place or Red Cat. With desserts and a bottle of wine thrown in the bill came to $216, our dearest meal of our visit but it didn't really feel like value for money compared to the two restaurants mentioned. The place itself is nice enough, good atmosphere, you can pay extra to sit through the back to see the show and learn to dance jazz if that's your thing! We were happy to sit in the window and watch the snow. Swing 46 is okay, but it didn't leave a lasting memory.

Fantastic dance and live music spot in the Time Square neighborhood

By Dmitriy E |

What a superb club to listen to music and dance. Live bands. Great sound and music selection. Plenty of room on a dance floor. Even a lesson offered in between a band change (by a professional dance instructor). Food is fairly good. Drink are excellent. Highly recommend for any couple (my wife and I take dance lessons for 5 years). Plenty of regular people just enjoying themselves on the dance floor.

Such a great place!

By Angeldaniel108 |

The food was amazing, the drinks were amazing and the service was extra amazing. We were there with a group of 21 and they seated us all together and quickly. The music is wonderful and they have a fabulous dance floor. I would highly recommend this spot!

Overpriced

By Gerard A |

We went for music and jazz and thought this might be to the place to have a special dinner. We had the coconut shrimp, chicken caesar and soup to start, very basic and no effort put into the presentation. The entrees were nice and substantial. The Pork chop was very good, Angus steak good too but the seafood risotto we felt was quite small. We only had one dessert, the cheesecake which was ok. With some cocktails maybe 3, the check came to over $400. We felt we could have eaten a a Michelin star restaurant for these prices. The music was good and we paid a cover charge on line to cover that as well. Also too many pleas for donations to the "tip bucket". Wouldn't be rushing back...

Wish we had listened to reviews

By Misswardxx101 |

We booked and went completely open minded expecting a good evening even after reading a few negative reviews unfortunately we left highly dissatisfied....whilst we were there we caught the tail end of the band and then listened to pre recorded music rather than live music as it was over an hour until the next act came on! The whole reason we went was for music...I won’t complain about the $15 charge to be in the main room as that seems a reasonable fee for live music but there wasn’t any the majority of time we were there!.....we ate off the pre fixed menu which was pretty limited but the main menu was extortion....the whole time we were there we were not asked if we wanted more drinks and we were not asked if the food was ok ...my main was not cooked so I left the middle section and it as obvious my food was not ok ...to be honest it felt like we were an inconvenience...

A lively place with great atmosphere

By Izabela F |

We found this restaurant by accident, mooching around during the day, and booked a table for the evening. We were attracted by the swing band. We had a wonderful evening. It's a small, intimate place with excellent good and entertainment., especially the vocalist. There was some audience participation in the form of dance classes and the opportunity to practice. The dance floor was a tad on the small side and it did get quite crowded but there was a great atmosphere. A very enjoyable evening.

Outdoor jazz and dinner close to theaters

By Nomad0921 |

We had dinner at Swing 46 as a prelude to theater. We were able to get an outdoor table which allowed us to people watch. Dinner was a very reasonable prix fixe for salad, entree, and dessert. I had a caesar saad with dressing that was fresh and not overpoweringly fishy ,the salmon over rice which was well prepared, and a rassberry fruit sorbet The other members of the party were equally satified with their meal as well. The service was prompt and gave us plenty of time to make our show which was one block nearby. The music which was piped in during dinner was just thr right volume, making its presence known but not having a negative impact on the dinner conversation. We would consider returning to Swing 46 during a future vist to the NYC theater district.

Great late night spot

By Curious446526 |

Okay, you're not going to come here for the food - but maybe it's not such a bad idea. Food was affordable and above average. Price was affordable. The live music accompaniment was unexpectedly good. I was surprised the place was almost empty - but it was a Wednesday late evening. BTW - if you're catching a show on Broadway and eating late, this place has their full menu available until late.

Great Music and fun dancing

By Gene B |

We enjoyed our time at Swing 46 it was truly a great way to celebrate our adventure in NYC. We have not eaten here but love the cocktails and atmosphere.

cool for cats

By andy-murphy72 |

I did like this place for the entertainment factor, food not so great. some of the dancers I believe must have come straight off Broadway, they were fantastic dancers. I would definitely return here again.

Unprofessional waitress with an attitude

By tommyrageous |

4 pm visit... no customers in the place.. got seated in a freezing cold table near the front windows so it would look like customers were in the restaurant. Hostess walked away and disappeared before we could request a more comfortable table. Waited a ridiculously lomg time for anyone to come over... I excused myself and went downstairs to the men's room... which was inexcusably filthy... I thought to myself.. if the rest rooms are dirty with no customers in sight.. what are their sanitation skills in the kitchen like? When I returned to the table... my wife had been subject to being ignored, STILL.. while being a victim of having to hear 2 waitresses on the end of the bar cursing and using foul language complaining about how cheap some customer was on her tip. We walked out, but not before my wife scolded them on how NOT to act in front of paying customers!

Love this place

By bettyboop003 |

I have been to swing 46 at least 4 times now and absolutly love everything about it. It is such a fun night and the food is delicious plus excellent service. The entertainment is fabulous and you can get up and dance afterwards. Will visit swing 46 everytime i visit new york and would highly reccomend it.

Great music and food

By Mary P |

A great place to go to hear good swing music and have dinner or just snacks. You can also dance if you want to. Highly recommended.

Late night drink with live music, whats not to love?

By Fran008Birmingham |

Stopped here after seeing a show (Jersey Boys), and had a lovely few drinks. Service, ambience and prices were all very good. The live music was really excellent and special mention to the chap at the front of house, who was welcoming and pointed us in the right direction for drinks.

Enjoyable Meal

By Suzanne88823 |

This restaurant has live swing music, which added to the atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food was lovely. It's worth walking the two blocks from a very busy Times Square to be transported back into the 50's swing era.

Great place

By Adam G |

This place really made my solo trip to the big apple, Food was great! Girls behind the bar are lovely specially the girl who has the head wear on all the time she was lovely! Band that where on great! Dancers was a pleasure to watch! My friend is going to nyc next week and im sending him here!

To dance with a not disappointing meal

By Monpetit |

You come here to dance...some slows but essentially rock'n roll, in the mode you want it. It is live music with some pause but always with music and so dance everytime. Friday it is a big band and so back to the 40's and 510's, type jazz. The restaurant is not bad . Classic/club : crabcakes, srteak, scallop... Very good cocktaiuls. Nice atmosphere.

Swing and the Singer

By Susan H |

The atmosphere was going into another world, the music was just that swing, the singer that night was wonderful Vanessa. I had met her earlier, but had not heard her sing, she just got everyone dancing the Swing. The food fabulous, could have ordered another plate or asked for a take out, wish I had.

Swinging and buzzing night

By Chris |

We were a group of 10 colleagues visiting New York for the weekend. We came to Swing for our last night in the city. Swing is located Midtown on 46th Str between 8th and 9th Ave. After a warm welcome by the manager we crossed the first room full of customers packed along the long bar. Our table was in the back room where a stage was set up. After a couple of good cocktails we started dinner. I ate chilled shrimps, salmon filet, strawberry cheesecake. Food was OK, service was ordinary, California Coppola Merlot was fair. But the most interesting was coming in front of us. That night Jerry Costanzo and his jazz band were great in playing tunes of the Great American Song Book. Clients of all ages stood up and started swinging on the dance floor with a dance instructor. Atmosphere was buzzing, all was fine. To wrap up, we had a lot of fun.

Ridiculously expensive

By milliegordon2 |

I would have given this a lower rating, but the music was very good and the service was also decent. However, the prices are insane. We ordered mussels (late at night). For $18, the appetizer selection had the smallest mussels I have every seen. Thank goodness we had bread. I would definitely NOT return.

Great mussels

By Su K |

Just had simple drinks and mussels outside... food was great and nice to have music outside... not live music but still nice jazz

Great atmosphere...food just ok

By ElBar11 |

Going to restaurant row is like walking the boardwalk and all the game workers bark at you trying to get you to try their game. After a Saturday broadway show matinee we walked down the street and hosts stand outside trying to get you to come into their restaurant by talking "price fixe" meals-appy, main course, and dessert for 35, 30, 25, etc. We picked this restaurant (which is evidently a happening jazz club late at night) because it was $25 for the 3 courses and 2 for 1 drinks. Service was ok, the waiter was difficult to understand and not very helpful. We both had a mozerella and tomato appetizer which was 2 slices of each from the smallest tomato I had ever seen. We had pasta with shrimp for the main course which was again small but tasty. The dessert was a half of a brownie diagonal cut with a smidgen of whip cream. The meal was enough to satisfy but by no means worth it. The two for one drinks were weak, basically half the liquor split between two drinks. Not the worst considering it was NYC but certainly not the best value for price. On the plus side, the atmosphere is candle lit with nice lighting and a retro-jazz decor.

A True Blast!!

By Millie0702 |

My husband and I along with two other couples were visiting NYC for the weekend and we chose to make reservations here because it looked different and was interactive. We made reservations for 7:00pm on Friday, 5/17 and booked a party which gave us several hors dóeuvres to share, a salad, dinner option, dessert and premium open bar for 4 hours and I mean premium and open! I think we all chose the Angus Steak which we all agreed was delicious and cooked nicely! The cost for each person was $90.00 and they added in the fee for entertainment and tip and tax and told us the exact cost before hand (I'm thinking it came to about $125 per person). This was all money well spent. Our waitress, Christine didn't miss a beat... she was awesome, prompt and friendly and made us feel like we were A list all the way! Everyone here was friendly and accommodating! At 9 we had a 30 minute dance lesson which we all needed and it was fun! At 9:30 the band started we danced and drank the evening away. Our open bar ended at 11:00 and we planned on staying on because there was beginning to be a good crowd but with traveling earlier, dinner and a whole lot of drinks we headed back to the hotel. Truly don't miss this experience... I couldn't find one thing that was just not perfect... the place, the music, the food and most importantly the people... PERFECT!

Not so good...

By MonctonAcadien |

The waiter was not good.. He wasn't friendly and didn't came to check on us. We asked him for fresh peppers and never got it .. It took 20 mins to get more water! The food wasn't even that ... Will never go back !

Dinner

By Erica J |

Food was ok and service wasn't the friendliest. We were drawn in by the happy hour offering bogof on drinks Please be warned these are incredibly limited and your not allowed to share my husband and I ordered one glass of wine each and it was only when we got the bill charging us for both that we were informed of this !!!

Fantastic night!

By A5h1eigh |

Not sure why the negative comments are below, as we couldn't knock the place at all! Booked a table for 7pm, it was pretty quiet. The waiter was extremely helpful and polite. Drinks: plenty of cocktail options but me and my fiancé are beer drinkers, they didn't have many options for tap, but quite a few bottled beers. We ended up going with the orange beer off the tap, it was a very good choice!! Food: My fiancé ordered mozzarella and I ordered mussels for starters, both were delicious, especially the mussels! I could have easily eaten another 10 bowls of them as they were incredible!! We then both ordered the filet mignon steak for main, both rare, and my fiancé asked to swap his veg for fries, which they were happy to cater for. The steak came out in good time, lovely and tasty with plenty of flavour, and a good size too! Okay the food was a little pricey but worth every penny! Entertainment: thought it was due to start at 8pm but no entertainment started until 9, which was the dance instructor. We got up and tried it which was good, but as the dining area was full and a lot of people got up to try, the dance floor was a bit too crowded to move. Had a good laugh though. Once the band started the music was fantastic!!! Just a shame we'd been there over 2 hours already and were looking at heading out to other bars. Don't know if this was due to them waiting for all the tables in the dining area to fill as a lot of people didn't come in until late. Service: The staff were extremely helpful! They even catered for a couple that weren't happy with their seats, and helped a couple who's table was wobbling. I could not complain at all about the service! Overall a very good night, it was just a bit pricey. Our meal and 8 beers came to $180, the band and table charge was $20 each and the 18% gratuity is added automatically, which was $30. Total: $250

Just average - they don't stand out

By PeacefulBaja |

We stopped for dinner as they have a three course deal for $25. Salad, dinner and dessert. The salad was unremarkable, dinner was (herb chicken) was good...not great and dessert was tiny. I ordered a Patron margarita with Grand Mariner, light on the mix. What I got was a $14 margarita mostly mix with the tequila and GM undetectable. Since I was a bartender for several years, there was no disguising the ingredients so I sent it back for "repair". It came back without the expected transformation into a real margarita so it was returned. Fun place that skimps on potions and shots in my opinion.

Strong drinks, Bland food, expensive

By Mati W |

Just was walking by and the place looked interesting. Someone greeted me outside and showed me to a seat. He informed me that if I wanted to dance it's a $15 charge-- they had a jazz band. I ordered the mini Wellington, but was not available. My second choice of the chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables was like fifty shades of blandness. The music stopped for an intermission that morphed into a non-musical dance lesson.

bad experience

By hep-gezen |

we had couple hours and wanted to listen jazz. The place was close where we stayed. The guy at the door (then we learned he was the manager???) said with the cover charge $15 each we can listen live jazz. We said okay and ordered a bottle of wine. Then band was average. Then performed one song and then had a break. In the meantime there was a group with a teacher learning dancing. After 40 min we asked the guy. we wanted to listen live jazz that is why we entered and claimed the cover charge. He was so rude. we argued and paid everything. It was our experience. As a jazz lover. I will never go that place again.

Great food and entertainment

By nomuss |

This restaurant on West 46th on restaurant row has great food with fantastic swing/big band entertainment. There is a small cover but the show is well worth it.

What a disappointment

By Vicky W |

We came here after looking for a dinner dance for my 30th birthday. Sadly we were neglect from the moment we walked in to when we left...! It took 20 minutes from being seated for someone to come up to us and give us a menu, and take a drink order. we were then told that the cocktail I wanted wasn't on our premium package deal (all top shelf drinks should be included!) we were generally forgotten about, the food was poor... Not terrible but considering how much money it cost, bad value and terrible service. Such a disappointment on what was supposed to be a fantastic evening on a special event.

Good food good service

By hacksawCanada |

My wife and I were walking past and stopped to look at their menu. We did the early price fix. Very good meal and good service. We were to early to really experience all this place has to offer. We will come back in the evening to take in the live jazz. They have a wonderful setup in the back for this. Only small complaint was their restaurant was rather warm. It was however 90f outside, so I am sure this was a factor. Overall, we had great food and service.

Great band and atmosphere

By Lily6452 |

We had dinner at this restaurant and happy to have chosen it. The food itself is poor quality and expensive as most places in New York but the music made up for it. There was a 9 piece band singing and they did so very well. Some people chose to dance and the whole atmosphere was really upbeat. A great evening out. Recommended but maybe not for food.

Don't Need Custom

By SD62BMW |

I visited Swing 46 on 3 evenings out of 7 that we were in Manhattan five or six years ago. I was looking forward to visiting again but after the following email exchange have surmised that they need no further custom: ME: Your calendar for August has 24th - 30 missing.  I guess the 26th is George Gee orchestra?  Would I need to book a table for this? SWING 46: No its not. ME: Oh yes, I didn’t notice the small slider, however due to your rude and curt reply I’ll take my party of 6 to dinner elsewhere. SWING 46: You will have much better time there then here for sure. I know the food is good and I know the music is good but what a shabby way to treat your customers!

Great food and music

By suber2016 |

The food was amazing. I had the salmon and salad. Will be back for that meal. The jazz music was very enjoyable. We watched the swing dance lesson. Everyone was having a good time, perhaps next time we will join in. The drinks are pricey but my margarita was refreshing.

Fun

By funlovinginNewYork |

We went here just for drinks so I can't comment on the food. The place is awesome, so much fun watching swing dancing and the band was awesome.

So good - we went back 3 times

By Peter2507 |

I had found this place partly through a friend's recommendation and then looked it up on the web. Maybe unlike some of the other reviewers I knew there was a $12 per diner cover charge. If you don't eat it is $20 per head to get into the back room where the music is. In my opinion well worth the money based on the acts we saw. We eat there one night and just drank and danced there two nights. Both the food and drinks are the sort of price you expect to pay on Restaurant Row, possibly slightly below what I had expected compatred to some of the other places I have patronised there. The food was faultless, my steak cooked exactly as I asked for, which is a fairly rare occurence (pun intended!). Dessert of NY Cheesecake also excellent. The bottle of wine we had was $40, not cheap but about the going rate for the quality it was. The waitress who looked after us on Sunday was probably the best service I have ever had anywhere. The Ray Abrams Big Band music on the Sunday night was excellent although the place was a little sparsely populated. There enough partners to dance with and everybody was very firendly, reminded me of the Ceroc / Jive venues in the UK where noone gets upset if you ask thier partner to dance. Tuesday and Wednesday were far more lively and the main act was Johnny Boyd. He worked the crowd like a real pro "You're the best audience I've ever played!" (He said that on both nights!) The only criticism is that I could have stayed another couple of hours, dancing and listening to the music. I will definitely be going back next time I am in New York.

Good food, great entertainment

By Charlene T |

The $35 price fix dinner was excellent. I had the steak and my friend had the salmon. Both were great. There was a 9 piece band with a vocalist. Not too many dancers but it was a week night. Great atmosphere and a nice evening.

Authentic swinging club

By Kat R |

I was looking for a place to listen to some jazz music and to get an impression of NY swing community and I got pleasantly surprised with this fabulous authentic place

Delicious

By We_Love_2_Travel2013 |

Staff here are fantastic, food is delicious, drinks are awesome and very clean place. Would absolutely recommend.

Don't miss this midtown gem!

By binky1 |

The food is Very Good so don't hesitate to eat here but go even if you aren't hungry. They have live music every night of the week - ranging from Swing to Jazz to Elvis and more. We went on 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised to see couples in their 20's along with us 60+ enjoying music, dancing and Great Service!

Good place for an enjoyable evening with live jazz music

By Erwin van der Laan |

Went here for some draught beers and jazz when I was three days in NYC in October 2018. Arrived here after I had a really good 2 hour stay in Birdland, and although the atmosphere here is not as enchanting as in Birdland, it has an above average flair. Cannot say anything about the food, and the girl behind the bar looked cranky, but the live swing jazz music was really nice and people were dancing and having a good time. This all made up for a good time and I would come back here when in NYC.

Dissappointed

By Cassia100 |

Popped in here for a quick drink as it had been recommended by a friend. Cocktails were awful wouldn't go back.

Wow what a place !!

By Karen J |

We ate a lovely meal 1st November and we were lucky enough to find that on the first Thursday of every month they have the amazing wonderful George Gee Jazz orchestra playing and with an excellent singer

Ok Food, Aweful Service

By amacsee |

Visited on being persuaded by the pleasant looking outside and reasonable set menu price ($25 for 3 courses)... But the service and general attentiveness of the staff was awful... We had to remind them of our drinks order twice, and then our starters arrived before our drinks! This was then followed by a painful wait for the mains (they were not full or particularly short staffed)... Eclipsed only by the even longer wait for dessert. They then automatically added an 18% tip, which they wouldn't remove. There are plenty of good restaurants on this road - why did we end up in this one... 2 star as the food was reasonable.

Good meal, outdoor seating

By mikesD7469GU |

This restaurant is located on restaurant row in the theatre district - 46th street. We sat outside and the meal was excellent. Inside was a band and dancing. The service was slow at times on drinks. A reminder to bring drinks happened several times. I would eat there again though. The food was excellent.

There is some good dancing, and you better like loud and crowded.

By Andrew C |

Never been anywhere more fun for Swing dancing. Lots of dancers - many of them terrific, and many interested in dancing around. LOUD and crowded...this is a place to go to dance and drink..not to chat!

Be careful with the waitress

By Adrian V |

The place was nice, the music was very good and the food was good, but the waitress ruined our night with the bad service and wanted to charge us a more expensive menu option that we didn't ask for.

Dinner, drinks, and show

By Tour78730 |

The show was excellent. We saw Donny Most and he and his orchestra were fabulous. The service was excellent. The food however was a mixed bag. The prices were fair for what we ordered. I ordered 2 appetizers. The crab cake which was somewhat tasty but quite bready and cold and the portobello with goat cheese which was quite dry and overcooked. My dh ordered a Caesar salad and barbecued ribs which he said were good and almost filling. I wouldn't return unless I wanted to see a specific performer.

Great place for jive and jazz!

By Don B |

Dropped by Swing 46 on a recent visit to New York by chance, when the nearby bar we were headed to was closed. It was a Tuesday night, and the music started at 8:30, so we gave it a go. What a blast! I was there with my brother, my daughter and her friend; we quickly settled in for a night of dining and swinging with the George Gee Band. The music was fantastic, and there was some energetic talent on the dance floor as well! Very entertaining. My only regret was I was in the middle of a bad cold and didn’t want to infect anyone, so I bowed out of the intermission dance lessons, but my companions had no qualms about getting out and cutting a rug! My daughter is now adamant about taking swing lessons with her boyfriend. Re: the meal – I’d rate mine fair to middlin’. I ordered the Prince Edward Island mussels, which were more shell than mollusc (a few shells were empty); my brother enjoyed his salmon filet and my daughter her scallops. In any case, we were there for the music and the fun, and that paid off in spades! Definitely worth a stop if you enjoy good live jazz and dancing.

Truly amazing

By Marina D |

We happened to come on Monday when Swingadelic performed - playing tunes from the Count Basie and Duke Ellington era of the 30′s to music from the swingin’ 60′s like Ray Charles and the Beatles. Truly amazing performance!!

Make sure you ask what extras they will add on at the start !

By OiPunk |

One of the best nights out you can have that gets completely ruined by the extras weighed on to your bill at the end. We went for the three course meal for around $75 a head. We also ordered a bottle of wine for $55 ! But the cheapest we could find in a decent establishment in the city. The entertainment was excellent, we bought some more beers, and all in all it was great. I can’t remember all the extras, but it put a real bad taste in the mouth. I genuinely believe it should be down to the customer who decides what type of tip they pay. And trying to tell me it’s the law won’t rub. NYC taxes added plus a big percentage for the band, not disclosed at the start. We had tipped the band anyway. If you ever want to feel like your custom doesn’t mean a lot and your just a walking dollar bill then visit not only here but the whole city itself. Such a shame, and such a bad ending ti a great evening,

Great music. A step back in time.

By Carl M |

We came here on two nights for late cocktails and some jazz, which we heard was very good here. On both nights the music was fantastic. The drinks were good (though not cheap) and the service was polite. We didn't eat here (and didn't see anyone else order food either). This venue is great for people who like swing music and dancing. Recommended.

Great music, food and service

By Rick S |

Food was great and the staff could not have been nicer. The music was terrific. We sat in the bar, not to avoid the $15 cover, but to talk. This was a last minute choice and well worth it. Not sure about the negative reviews, but I guess there are always people that can’t be pleased.

Fun Place for Drinks and Dancing

By Sandra G |

Cute place on Restaurant Row near Times Square. Swing Dancing every night-- with a lesson around 9 pm. There is a cover-- but some nights they seem to waive it. They have a full menu as well-- but we just had drinks and did some dancing.

Great jazz and great food

By Tlucky4 |

We were here before our show and ordered the price fix menu. The appetizers were so-so, the house salad had a dressing that was very vinegary tasting, but the mozzarella and tomatoes were good, not a huge fan of the Caesar salad either. The main courses were delicious and made up for apps. We had steak, shrimp rigatoni and the ribs. All were plate clearing good! The desert was a brownie or sorbet and our party had both, each were the perfect finish to the dinner. The Kazz Jazz Trio was performing when we were there and the music was the highlight- loved the whole night! Service was excellent also.

Dancing and dining - great experience!

By Flosu |

When I came along this site on a walk in the Hells Kitchen area, a nice guy handed me out a flyer with the meal available and a timetable of bands playing there. For the next day there was a big band announced, so I decided to give it a try. By ringing up them by telephone they reserved me a nice table with a great view of the stage so I could see all happening there. As food I tried a Caesars Salad with chicken and it was really great and enough for a meal alone. While the band began playing their leader tried to encourage people to dance. Later in the break some musicians also offered some dancing steps and I joined in. The rest of the evening was a lot of fun because of the open-minded atmosphere you also could invite ladies from other tables to have a dance with you. I really enjoyed myself this evening so much - everything was perfect: from the kindness of the staff, the music, the atmosphere, the people. And it even wasn't expensive: They wanted a 12 $ fee for the band, 15 $ for the salad and some drinks plus tip plus taxi to Midtown made the evening a budget one for me with around 50 dollars - but you can also underdo that if you try.. I would fully recommend this place to anyone who has a likeness of Swing music. Thank you for the wonderful evening!

A rare opportunity to sample good food with good music in NY

By rowlandz1968 |

I've been a couple of times now and the place definitely deserves recognition. The food is excellent, the service is good and the live music is different every night. It's slightly off the beaten track so you don't get caught up in the tourist rat race.

Enjoyable but overpriced

By ajsdealz |

We came here to listen to the jazz/swing live music as well as dinner and drinks. We had looked it up online prior and then made a booking. Upon arrival we were told if we wanted to have dinner in the live area (at the back) there was a $15 cover charge (typical in a lot of places though...) or bar and front area was free - but you could easily see and hear the music anyway. We had also seen online that they had a $35 three course set menu, however we were told that wasn’t for the back dining area-although our waiter did say it was fine and allowed us to order from that. Without the set menu, the mains were on average $30 and the cheapest wine by the glass was $11. Which again is typical In NYC. We just didn’t feel the wine quality matched the price as well as some of the meals. Overall, it was good, not great, and for 4 people with only 4 alcoholic beverages the bill was $300- including tax and tip (which they added on automatically with no choice to change the amount) I felt it wasn’t worth the money.... Others may have felt differently, but just our opinion...

We Lucked Out With Music We Loved

By Mike B |

We lucked out. The music they had at the time we reserved (5:30 on a Saturday) was exactly the kind I like best: standards from the American Songbook. The song selection was wonderful. The pianist and drummer were very good. The bass player was spectacularly good (he belongs playing in front of thousands and in recording studios). Amy London, the leader and singer was personable and energetic, but not the best at singing (many of her notes were flat). Although we were delighted with the music, they offer many different types and styles. You might want to check their calendar before reserving. The food was OK, but we wouldn’t come here just for that. My hangar steak was nicely flavored; some of the pieces were chewy but that is in the nature of hangar steak. However, my wife was very disappointed with her Orecchiette pasta. The menu says the dish has sausage, but the sausage was a few tiny little tidbits. And she didn’t enjoy the sauce. The mozzarella on tomatoes (what most places call a Caprese salad) had good cheese but the tomatoes were winter supermarket quality. The raspberry sherbet dessert was very good. Menu prices were not bad but they charged us a $15 per person cover charge that was not disclosed where they posted the menu outside (there was a little sign on the table). Service was good. The room is set up nicely to allow the most people to see the band.

Shocking

Absolute garbage terrible food and terrible service Very low class establishment Three courses with three drinks 300 dollars I certainly wouldn’t recommend at all NO live music

Great night out

By Jezzer7 |

Can't say that I am a fan of Jazz music (in fact I normally avoid it), but went here one night with a few friends for a meal and night out. However, the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra (Jazz) were excellent and very entertaining. Had a fixed price 3 course meal (they also have a standard menu) and although portions were smaller than expected, they were more than enough (having had a couple of super size meals already in NYC elsewhere in the few days previous). Mid way through the night we had a free dance lesson, which was useful and fun to participate in. However, the best part was watching the older locals dance the night away - what great moves and great style they still have. Just be aware that there is a $15 cover charge per person on entry which pays for the live music, and which is effectively an entrance fee (and doesn't come off your bill at the end of the night). This might be obvious to some, but it wasn't to me or anyone else in my group. Still a great night and can recommend it for something a bit different in NYC.

What a disapointment!

By SDS769 |

Stopped by to hear the Swingadelics and to have appetizers and drinks during a staycation (we live here in Brooklyn, NY). What a waste of time. It was fun to watch some of the dancers;however the service and food were terrible. When I first sat down at hte table I noticed that the chair was very loose and on the verge of collapsing when we told the staff they said "oh yeah, that chair is broken" and we had to insist that they change it out for a new chair. We ordered a glass of malbec, a Shock Top and roasted beet salad with goat cheese. The salad had almost no cheese and was poorly presented with almost no flavor. When the waiter came to clear the plates he dropped the plate and lettuce went flying every where. There was no apology. We sat through one set of music (about 50 minutes) and about half of the songs were non-jazz or swing. This is an overpriced tourist trap. Save your money and go elsewhere.

swinging evening!

We listened to George Gee Swing band, had a dance lesson from Laura and ate a lovely meal. Even our girls (18 years old) enjoyed the evening! Enough said.

Great experience

By Seankmcdonnell |

If you're looking for just a quiet dinner and are on a tight budget, go somewhere else. If you want to be entertained over your supper by a 15- or 18-piece big band then Swing 46 is definitely worth checking out. To those complaining about the cover charge and the higher cost for food, I'd argue that Swing 46 is a fantastic value. How much do you think it takes to hire a small orchestra in Manhattan? Divide that by the 50 or so people being entertained and you'll quickly understand why a cover and a small premium on the food is a necessity. So is the need to tip a little higher when you're sitting at the table for three hours or more. Soup, salad, entree, two drinks and cover was $90 before tip. I'd give the food a 4. The corn and lemongrass soup was tasty and the presentation of the swing salad was nice. The vegan lasagna was not as tasty as I'd hoped but still good.

Not worth the money such a let down

By Matthew Fong |

So the table for two was booked and confirmed three months before we went to New York and in that time they managed to loose the booking so when we arrived we weren't on the list. Good job we had a printed booking confirmation with us. Now the venue had a good atmosphere and the lady on the door was very welcoming and was quick at getting us rebooked and sat. The menu looked great and as a foodie was really looking forward to the meal show and dance lesson. We were sat at a candle lit table in a romantic setting (expectations were high). We ordered a cocktail each neither of the cocktails we ordered were on the menu but they whipped up our amaretto sour and long Island ice tea in a very reasonable time for cocktails. The only thing that spoilt the atmosphere was the owner/manager very publicly disciplining a member of staff and then another and another and another. After the above it seemed all staff in our area were on edge and this affected the service. They seemed to be paying more attention to said manager than the guests. The room we were in held about 70/80 people max. With a good blend of mix of ages. The starters came out and I won't lie they were really good came out quick and this only increased expectations for the main meals. The starters were cleared quickly and we were presented with our mains. Now I don't know about you but I like to see what I am eating and the lighting in the venue was a bit dark and it was difficult to see what we were eating if I hadn't put the flash on my camera you wouldn't see any food. Now the main meals came out and looked good, but unfortunately that was the only good thing about it. The steak I ordered (the Angus hanger) was tough and fatty and I left two larger pieces of meat just too fatty for my liking. The beef was bland the sauce was bland the potatoes tasted like smash (a powdered potato, mix with hot water to make a really bad mash potato) my partner ordered a pasta dish which was over powered by pesto, you couldn't taste the Italian sausage just an overwhelming pesto which after washing my mouth out with water stayed with me till I got back to the hotel to clean my teeth. If you LOVE pesto you would love that pasta but if you want to be taken on a journey of flavours with a well balanced taste profile this journey would of had on stop and that was pesto town. So the food, starters good mains were so bad I nearly forgot about how good the starters were. But let's face it we weren't there just for the food if we were this would be a one star 🌟 review. So for an extra $20 each you can get a show and a dance lesson. Well the room was full and when taking my partner to dance there was clearly not enough room. The dance instructor seemed to know what he was doing but the lesson would have been better had he been audible. With several microphones to hand he really should have used on to ensure everyone could hear. The instructor was jolly friendly and nice. The only thing that could have made the dancing better would be maybe a few less people with everyone on the dance floor and swinging it was a little like bumper cars. The band were the best bit of the night great mix of swing, blues and classic rock and roll. It's great to see some old boys doing what they do! So to summarise go for the music and cocktails but stay clear of the food there are so many better places to eat in NYC. For what we spent on the meal food and entertainment we could have see a Broadway show. The night was not value for money, in fact quite the opposite, I wouldn't recommend this Place to anyone I like, maybe to someone I don't like. Total stars 🌟🌟 two Food - poor Dancing - too busy Band - best thing of the night Staff - felt bad for them because of the way the manager spoke to them in front of the customers. Service charge - was included I'm guessing they do this because people wouldn't tip given the choice. Value for money - no way!!! Final thoughts what a let down... Super club... Bull S-+t

GREAT SPOT WITH FANTASTIC ACOUSTICS

By Stephen M |

Went last minute and was able to get in on a Friday night. Sat in the bar and had great view of stage. Ordered drinks and some food- it was very tasty. Special thanks to bartender- very friendly and genuine- can't remember his name but he was a great host and looked after our food and drink needs. Very reasonably priced. And of course the JAZZ WAS FANTASTIC.

Nice band okay food

By Yusuf Aytaş |

We had a dinner in this bar and listened the live Jazz music. The band was pretty good but food was okay.

It's all about that JAZZ

By Gerrits-of-London-86 |

If you like Jazz, then Swing 46 is where you want to be. We only had some appetizers and wine here, but if the rest of the food selection is as good as the appetizers, it would be to die for. Our main reason for going to Swing 46 was to hear the Jazz, if and when in New York, it's all about that Jazz. The night we were there, they had a seven piece Jazz Band which was great, and they have dancing to boot. It is a great place after a busy day of hustle and bustle to sit back, take a load off your feet and relax with a great bottle of wine and phenonimal music

UNBELIEVABLE SWING BAR

By laura |

This is the best jazz/swing bar I have ever been to! Definitely pay the cover and sit up front by the band. It is great learning the dance moves at the beginning of the night at the dance class then getting to practice for the rest of the evening. The food is wonderful (definitely very expensive) but there are also great restaurants along the same street that are Delicious especially the Argentinian! Loved every minute of my experience at swing 64 and every time I visit New York or a friend is visiting I always send them there! Incredible atmosphere, especially when we visited on new years eve.

A show & dinner & then a show again!!!

By Mena630 |

After an early afternoon broadway show, Book of Mormons, we decided to stroll "restaurant row" and surrounding area. Swing 46 has a nice price fixe menu & a jazz show. Since we like to dine with music from time to time, we decided to stay. Our seating was perfect, the menu is limited but sufficient. There was a donation cover charge ($10 total) but well worth it. The musicians were professionals!!! The drinks were typical of pricey Manhattan (other restaurants had promotion price drinks, but don't be fooled, many times watered down or not top shelf). We shared a beautiful bottle of wine that was perfectly priced. A fun day & night had!

Big band fun for our company Christmas party

By BenVerona |

We bused 30 people into the city for our company Christmas party, and had a great time at Swing 46. The food was average, but the music was phenomental! A full live big band (full instrumentation), complete with vocalist in the mid-40s Sinatra style, was absolutely great! For a night of live music, you cannot beat the atmosphere here. Don't go for the food, however - just go for the music.

Great Steak

By debbie w |

This was our second time , we where there 3 years ago & raved about it the streaks where the best we had ever had ,cook to perfection .On our return we had to have the streak again & it was cook to perfection again, every bit as good as the last time we where there . We loved the music as well I wished we had looked up trip advisor ,because it took us 3 day's to find it ,but we did & would go back again next time we are in New York I would highly recomment this place for a night out

Perfect swing outlet

This is a real jewel, great swing/jazz bands. Friendly place. Fiord is OK but not great, price reflects this. I cannot think of another venue this good to dance to swing music.

Great sound of Felix and the Cats swing band while dining and 🍷 drinking wine. Dance floor tables in the back as well as dining up front . Great ambiance

Good music, careless service

The band was playing nicely , 10 musicians, waiter service was careless, served wine to my water glass. Worth the visit, but choose the right band on their website.

Cool Little Spot

By ExpatMom4 |

This is a cool little place! The food was good:) We had dinner and we were happy with our food and service! The band was good! I was expecting a little more upbeat swing music ... but the music was good. Different bands play so it is not the same experience all the time. We arrived in time to watch a swing lesson and that was cool. If you like jazz this is a great place for dinner and dancing! We had strawberry cheesecake for dessert and it was so good! The prices were not as crazy as some restaurants in New York, it was more moderately priced! They also have some very yummy Cocktails! They have seating in the bar area and then seating in front of the stage and dance floor. It’s dim lightly and has a great mood. Could be a very romantic evening or equally fun for a group of friends. There is a cover charge for everyone, even if you are having dinner. It was 15 dollars when we went.

If you like dancing you will love this place

By Sussi78 |

I would wish Denmark had a place like this. You can eat here first if you like or only drop by later for dancing. There's a free lindyhop taster (about 30 minutes) and then you're ready to dance on your own. There's also non-swing music if you like to also dance to the newest hits. If you want to be sure to get a table make a reservation.

Pleasant surprise!

By SouthernFriedGerman |

It was my birthday and we were under a time constraint. My party was getting impatient with some of the other restaurant prices and waiting lists. So we walk by this jazz place and I immediately ask the host what the wait time was. He said, "none" and we went with it. Walk instead to find a groovy live jazz band with people dancing on the dancefloor at 6pm. Dinner was a price fix of $25 for starter, entree and desert. We mixed it up and everyone was pleased with portion size and how quickly the food came out. Happy hour was 2 drinks for the price of one. Service had problems communicating but the atmosphere made up for that! Would definitely recommend this place to others who like Jazz!

What a Night Out!

This is a fantastic restaurant/night club on Restaurant Row- w 46th /st. Great food and music that will soothe your soul as your palette is delighted. Dinner with a 16 piece jazz band.whether a tourist or a NYer. This place is a must

Great Fun for Swing Dancing

By Tuba4You |

Yes, it's a dinner/ dance venue. The food is good, but not spectacular. However, that's not the reason for coming here. It's the live orchestra playing the great swing hits from the 40's and 50's that make Swing 46 so much fun. The dance floor isn't particularly large, but neither is the crowd. A smaller style venue, reminded us of what a speak easy might have been like, and we had a wonderful time dancing the night away. Great music from some outstanding musicians and it was difficult to stay seated. If some fun dancing is your cup of tea, this is the place.

Dinner listening jazz

By Jarmo_Y |

We find this restaurant by hearing it. They give us nice patio table outside. Service was polite and quick. I eat risotto with sea food.

Absoultely terrible, massive rip off!

By Dansilverfox |

So we stumbled across this place and thought we would give it a try as the menu looked nice and seemed like we would get a good atmosphere inside. The lady on the door wanted us to pay a $15 just for a table near the band however we took a table which was by the window to avoid this charge. We had 2 bottles of bud, a cocktail, glass of white wine and two main courses (as they didn't have the mini beef wellington) which amounted to $127!!!! (Yes you read that correctly!!!!) The waiter was terrible, he constantly got our orders wrongs and we had suspicious ins he was stoned! (Partner works for a drug treatment service) Plus when paying for the bill, he decided to add the service charge as a mandatory part of the bill and go through why he had done this as in america they don't get a salary and need the tips!!! (We know this however it doesn't need to be chucked in our faces after our meal). Now for the food, its was very bland. I had the chicken which was okay however nothing special and my partner had the steak which again, was very average. Not worth $127. Overall, The band was okay and the girl on the door was nice but overall for the terrible service we got from from the waiter , the price and the very average food, I would avoid this place at all costs! Massive rip off!!!!!

Loud & profane argument by owner and an employee put a temporary damper on the evening.

By traveltheworld012 |

My wife and I were in NYC with another couple. They wanted to go hear some live jazz and dinner. They chose this place and calling ahead we were assured a table to hear the band play. On December 27, 2023, we walked over from where we were staying (about 6 blocks away). We were seated in the room where the band was playing by a man in a hat who greeted us at the door and took us to our table. As soon as we sat down, my friend's wife said it was too loud, so she asked to be seated in the bar dining room, which we were by the same man in the hat. About 5 minutes after we were seated, the owner was yelling and screaming, "Get the F*#K out of here" several times while pushing and shoving the man in the hat out the door. There was some resistance, so we thought there may be a fist fight. Instead, the man in the hat did leave and it quieted down. I assume if we would have stayed where the band was playing, we would have avoided witnessing this nastiness. That was unsettling to say the least. We had our menus and a 3rd staff person came over and took our orders. Then the owner came over to our table and apologized for the argument and said he would give us a free bottle of wine. We enjoyed our free bottle of red wine with a shared appetizer. All four of us ordered cocktails and an entree. I had the Orecchette Pasta with sausage for $30. If you sit in the room with the band, there is a $15/person cover charge, supposedly no charge in the bar room, but one can still hear (but not see) the band. My friend's wife (who complained about it being too loud) felt bad and picked up the tab for all four of us. I don't know how much the total tab was, but I imagine around $250 or more plus a tip. I would have preferred staying in the room to hear the band and dance with my wife, so maybe next time in New York. ...maybe a different live music establishment.

Swing time

By Bonnie M |

We were encouraged to enter this place by a street person. We sat out the front and had a lovely meal with a lovely bottle of red. We were watching all the amazing people enter the club, some dressed for the occasion and some waiting for first dates. We had a great time just watching, we paid the extra fifteen dollars to go in for the swing club and so worth it. We could have swing lessons which I preferred to watch as the band was fantastic, it was so good that my new husband and I had our first dance together. Great night, great atmosphere.

An authentic New York experience

By FrederickAKJ |

Those of us of a certain age will remember those old films where dinner and dancing was the norm. Well this is as close to that bygone age as you are going to get. The food was reasonable ,if a little ordinary. The service left a little to be desired but the overall experience of having dinner with a live band playing and people dancing and having a good time is a once in a lifetime experience. The band were excellent by the way and I am sorry that I can't remember their name. The staff were really friendly too. I think more places like this should cater for those of us in the prime of our lives. Great evening.

Great Live Jazz

By Le Flâneur Ni |

We stepped inside Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club on a whim. We sat at a nice table in front of the band for a cover charge, and drink minimum. The Stephen Santora Orchestra and special guests were wonderful.

Excellent throwback to the big band era.

By Royalscott |

We had visited this place previously but only later in the evening. We had made a note to return on our next visit. If you go after your Broadway Show or Pre Theatre you miss what this place is all about. We arrived about 8pm and paid the $15 each cover charge, this included a swing dance lesson. The staff hold your Dinner to allow everyone to participate and you really have to join in the "Swing" of things to enjoy your evening. After some one on one lessons from the "You Should be Dancing" dance studio even my two left feet had the basic steps. Dinner was nice but not outstanding, but who has time to eat with a big band with excellent blues singer to aid you to dance the night away. One thing I liked, they did not hound you to buy drinks, when you wanted one you gave them a wave. The teacher stays on and will gladly dance with the ladies to allow them to try their new found steps. The place attracts some good local swing dancers to show you how it should be done. All in all a great night out if you are willing to join in. Don't miss it if you are in the City.

A must in NYYC

By Gino P |

Do it. Go to a jazz club in Manhattan. This place was rated highly so we rocked up on a Thursday night. Service was great from the start. We sat in a raised area and had a great view of the band. The dancing was fun, though I'm not a dancer. But during the night they gave 15min of lessons and I had a lot more fun after that. The food was quite good, but you come here for the music, and that doesn't disappoint. Started off with Jazz, moved to swing, then back to jazz as the night wore on. A must do in NYC.

Phenomenal Food

By Manifesting Morgan |

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. We went before the Swing band got there, but I'm sure that would only add to the experience. Its a typically priced restaurant, but the food was by far the best we had all week.

Evening Meal at Swing 46

By Kate |

I was really dissapointed with Swing 46, we booked this restaurant as it looked nice on the website and we wanted to watch some Jazz. Can't fault the Jazz but the food was terrible. I had Ceasar salad to start which was ok. I finished my starter after my partner and they had already cleared his plate away, this is something we consider as rude in the UK, its just manners to take all the plates away at once. Therefore as I still had my finished plate I then had to hold this up so the waiter could put my main meal down!! I read the menu before arriving in New York and the burger sounded the most appetizing to me. Dissapointed when this was not on the menu, the menu was extremley limited I then chose italian sausage pasta with a creamy spinach sauce, that is definitley not what I got, firstly the sausage was minced (not what I expected at all) lets face it minced meat does not look the most appetizing, not what I expected in an overpriced restaurant. The 'creamy spinach sauce' was grey and had the consistency of dishwater. All in all the meal was terrible, I explained to the waiter when he asked if everything is ok which he replied with nothing, another waiter then came over and apologized and asked if I wanted anything else, I explained that as my partner had finished I was not going to go through waiting for another meal and eating it on my own. At this point I just wanted to get out of there, we must of waited 20minutes for the bill, when it finally arrived with my meal on there (the cheek! since I ate about 3 mouth fulls) the Music tax, which again I was told prior to our visit that we would not have to pay this as we were eating there. Nobody then came to collect payment so we went to the bar to pay, my own fault for not refusing to pay for my meal I know I should of! But like I said I just wanted to get out of there. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone, overpriced, limited menu and shocking service.

Overprized to it's quality

By Mane31 |

We had dinnerr here one night. It wasn't quite what we expected. The prizes were definitely too high compared to it's quality. And the overall experience wasn't so pleasant. I wouldn't recommend this to.

A great place to have a wedding!

By Soozi13 |

I attended my nephew's wedding at Swing 46 two weeks ago. He had both the wedding ceremony and reception there and the friendly staff did a great job of transitioning the room. The meal was delicious and the band was excellent and they kept the dance floor packed. I would certainly go back for a fun night out.

Exceeded Expectations

By P M |

We arrived in the city on a Saturday for a 5 night break. We decided to try Swing 46 as I wanted to step back in time and enjoy jazz and have a dance in a cool setting. From the moment we arrived the wonderful experience began. We were told that to eat in the main lounge it was $20 cover charge per person which we did as we wanted the ‘full supper club’ experience. We arrived at 830p. We each chose a signature cocktail to Swing 46. Delicious. At 9p a couple announced they were going to give Swing dance lessons and invited us all in to the floor. I’m glad we had not yet ordered food as this was so much fun to do. At 930p the band started and we returned to our seats and ordered. Throughout the night we ate, we danced, we listened to the great music. The food, the music, the ambience was fantastic. We stayed till around midnight and only left because we were getting tired as we had travelled that day. I will definitely be back. It was such a wonderful first night in the City. Cannot highly recommend this place enough.

Decent food, disappointing service

By kan919 |

My daughter and I stopped in for a pre-theater dinner. We were promptly greeted and shown to a table. We were told we would probably see them filming an episode of a local reality show. I guess this is why we suddenly became invisible. It took very long to get a drink (only one other table occupied inside and two outside). We ordered from the Prix fix dinner and found the pasta tasty. Sadly, our three requests for grated cheese were ignored until we were almost finished with dinner. The specialty drinks were pricey and not very good. I would stick to wine or beer, The decor is cool, reminiscent of a swing club. It was a very hot day....but the air conditioning didn't cool us enough. The couple sitting behind us seemed to send their food back three times and where heard complaining about the drinks. Even though it was happy hour (2 for 1) my daughter and I declined because they were not very good. Maybe it was just a bad day for them with the TV show being filmed however, with so many other choices on restaurant row I probably won't go back. :(

Great evening at Swing 46!!

Excellent evening at the Swing 46 sampling range of cocktails and bar snacks accompanied by excelllent Jazz music

Great night out

By irenemacp |

Visited here on a snowy Saturday night, mainly because it was just across the street from our hotel. We booked a table for dinner for 7.45pm having been informed that a band would be playing from 9pm. We (party of 3 friends) were greeted promptly and shown to our table through in the supper club. Our waiter was friendly but unobtrusive. The cocktails were delicious. The food was excellent, piping hot and the portion size was just right. Dessert was big enough to share. After dinner there was a free dance lesson for anyone who wanted to partake. Some were more accomlpished than others but everybody had fun and, at the end of the lesson, were equipped to dance to the band's tunes. We had fun watching the dancers and singing along with the band (told you the cocktails were good)!! There were two young couples in particular who were either professional dancers or very good amateurs. I loved watching them and fell, just a little in love with one of the males! This was not a cheap night out, the bill for three of us came to $308 including tip, cover charge ($20 each), two drinks each, three entrees and two desserts. Hey ho, it's not something we do all the time so we didn't mind. Would we go back? Most definitely yes!!

Swing-a-delic

By jerinichols |

Went to listen to the swing-a-delic band. They were great! Even though it was a quiet night they still put on a good show. I would love to come on an evening when it’s packed and see the full energy of the room. It’s a great place for a date night, something different, and you can put on your dancing shoes! A hidden gem for sure.

We actually meant to go to the bar next door

By Colin A |

But my wife directed us in here. You need to understand that we had been out all day. Top deck of the Big Bus Tour. Top deck of the Circle Line Cruise round Manhattan. No change of clothes in hotel. A walk back from the Pier to Restaurant Row. The Manageress literally looked us up and down. She may even of smelt us. I am sure I heard someone heave a sigh of relief at realising there were about to be customers more shabbily dressed than they were. The guys in their ultra smart suits and hats. The dancers all jazzy and elegant. And us with our red weatherbeaten faces and sweaty parkas. But fair play they "let us" have a seat at the bar. We caught the Jazz Band doing about 5 numbers. While it's not my favourite music it seemed to be pretty good despite the constant introductions to "Mr Somebody on piano", "Mr Someone else on Drums" At this point of our NYC visit we were numb to prices so can't remember although my wife thought the cocktails were good with a decent amount of kick in each

False promises

By Frissels |

We booked a table at this restaurant after walking past yesterday evening and hearing live music coming from inside. A young man was stood at the door, inviting people in. He showed us the fixed menu at $25 dollars per head. This looked good. We checked if this menu was available all evening and was the only cost for the evening and he said yes. He took us inside to show us the available tables and we selected one which was in a great spot. We were really looking forward to the evening. We got there this evening and the same young man took our coats for which we had to pay $1 per coat. We were then shown to our table. The menu came and there was no sign of the $25 menu. We then noticed an information card on the table which gave some information about the musicians. At the bottom of this was a sentence which said that $12 per person would be added to the bill to cover the music. We are more than happy to pay for good music, but we are not happy about being given information which is patently not true. We may well have still booked a table had we been given honest information from the outset, but we were not prepared to stay on principle, so we left. So please beware if you are thinking of eating here that the costs are considerably more than you are led to believe.

Spoiled Our Last Night in NYC

By Mark D |

We had planned to spend our last night here with our friends. Got there and was promtly seated, then it started to go wrong for me, they wanted to take my coat (no mention of a charge see previous review) when I said that I was not prepared to let it out of my sight (it had my passport several hundred dollers and a camera in it) I was offered a separate chair to place it on, fine problem solved good customer service. Opened up the menu no sign of the $25 fixed price menu, when the server came we asked for the menu we were told that we could not have it at our pre-booked table we could have it if we wanted to move to the bar area in which the seating was not suitable for a party of 4. The coat problem had not been solved the server insisted that they could not stay where they were despite previous arrangement, when challenged I was lectured like I was a 10 year old and I had to stop her before I really lost my temper. The reason given was that it blocked access to other tables, which was a complete load of hogwash as they had to move them apart to make a table for 4 in the first place. Cannot comment about the drink as we were asked to quickly and l do not like ordering things blind. Our friends ordered anyway, when theirs arrived we were not asked if we had decided. All this left a terrible atmosphere around the table as me and my wife really did not want to stay. Our friends could see this and were kind enough to give us an out, as we did not want to spoil their last night anymore that it already had. When we left fortunately the server was so inatentive as she was sat at the bar with her back to us we were able to get out without further interaction with the place.
