SO GOOD!

By Kelsie B |

We love this place and visit every time we are in NYC. This location is also our favorite. We were told to visit this place by a friend who is from NYC so we knew it had to be good. It didn't disappoint. The food is always fresh, the service is great, the atmosphere is very cool. I love the different levels of the restaurant. Make sure to make a reservation or you won't get in. It's always busy! Make sure to get the HUGE fortune cookie while you're there. It's ICONIC! The perfect treat after a long time of walking around the streets of NYC!

Super cool

I found always comfortable in this restaurant. Cool ambience Warm and smart staff Tasty and wide ranged food Same for drinks A bit noisy and pricy ( but it is Ny !)

Tao uptown has slid downhill, poor service, average food, overpriced

By technique |

I have just read many new reviews that are saying the same thing. Tao midtown has had its day and feels badly managed. Do Noah Tepperberg and Jason Strauss even care at this stage? We went to the restaurant in its heyday and decided to go back for some nostalgia. Unfortunately, the awful experience started straight away. As usual, we were shown the way to the ‘holding area’ by a listless staffer. Went to get two drinks at the bar, and was confronted by an unusually rude and unresponsive barman. I couldn’t believe it, almost think it was an act, but I kept my composure. He seemed irritated and uninterested in taking my order. We tried to not let the barman’s bad manners get in the way.  The food came and was good and well flavoured. Yet the place has definitely fallen on bad days, the atmosphere was lacking and it really seems to be a place for bachelors parties now. Our service was disorganised and unresponsive, similar to the barman experience.  I wouldn’t mind if the meal and experience were good value, but it’s overpriced, which is not unusual in New York. The poor service from the bar man completely ruined our experience. I would not recommend this restaurant, and would advise others to avoid the bar area altogether. There are so many better options for Asian fusion.

Great Asian Restaurant

By phat_dawg_21 |

This was the best Asian food we have had in a very long time. The sushi plates we ordered where first class, especially the spicy tuna on crispy rice and the Crispy Spicy Tuna Roll. The pork pot stickers were so good we almost ordered another plate. The fried rice with pork prepared three ways the beautiful. Service was excellent with an engaging server. Nice setting with the big Buddha dominating one wall. The only thing we didn’t like was being asked to place our entire order at one time. We would have preferred to proceed at a slower pace. A credit card deposit is required for reservations.

Great food, great price, great setting

By Demonakis |

I took 6 colleagues here for dinner after work. The food is fantastic, the service great and the setting is amazing. I was plesantly surprised with the bill which wasn't too bad for what we ate and drank. I will definitely go here next time I'm in New York. A welcomed break from oversized sandwiches and burgers.

Timeless institution worth a visit

By BermudaSolo |

Great menu, excellent service and timing of food delivery. Varied fusion of food choices and all our group of 4’s choices were greeted with delight.

Spoiled by a very long wait.

By AlyBee2013 |

Whilst the atmosphere and decor were amazing (Tao is obviously one of New York's hottest locations) we were extremely disappointed with the wait to get to our table. We had booked for 7.30 and arrived promptly. However, it was nearly an hour before we were shown to our table which we felt was unacceptable. There was nowhere to sit most of the time while we waited and eventually we were shown menus and asked if we wanted drinks. Slightly shocked at the price of drinks ($27 for a gin and tonic!) but we were prepared for it to be on the pricey side! The food was good but didn't really justify the prices, although the portions were generous and we were asked if we wanted to take anything away. The service was good, even though the waiter did pour water in our friend's beer accidentally (which was replaced!)!!! Would we go again? Maybe but only if we could get to our table in good time!

Expensive but Good Pan Asian Cuisine

By Robert T |

When you enter the main dinning room of Tao you are struck with the size of the room and the 15 foot Buddha floating over a pool of water. The rest of the space is interestingly decorated in a quasi asian theme. For such a vast space I expected it to be much louder but it was actually not very noisy. There is a short cocktail list but a fulll bar and wine list. Our service was very good and the food quite exceptional. A large selection of small plates, dim sum, soups, some BBQ and noodle or rice dishes, fish, steak chicken sushi and sashimi. Everything we had was delicious but prices are high for what you get. 3 people with only 2 drinks cost us $192 before tip. If you are willing to pay, it is worth going.

Felt like an upscale TGIF

By 2nd Chance Travelers |

We've been to Tao in Vegas and the downtown NYC TAO, big fans. This past Saturday night we were in town to see a show and decided to do dinner at TAO "Uptown". We had a reservation and barely could squeeze by someone with a double stroller (first clue). We were a few minutes early so we grabbed a drink at the bar. The bar tenders were absolutely disinterested in helping us, once they finished their lengthy conversation they dropped a menu. We ordered to glassed of wine and its as if we were inconveniencing her. At that point we should have left but our table was ready. We were seated downstairs. This TAO is nothing like the Downtown version, this one is small, doesn't have a wow factor and at 630pm on Saturday there were lots of families with toddlers. The biggest disappointment is the menu didn't have as much as the other Tao's. I had the overpriced filet, it was ok but not worth price. Mrs2ndChance had a noddle dish and it was very good. Our waiter was ok (hence the 2 star) but he got bogged down at other tables with lots of kids. Never asked if we wanted another round of drinks. We finished with the Fortune cookie mousse and it wasn't as good as we remembered. Suggestion, spend the time and money and Uber to the Downtown TAO. Avoid the uptown imposter. Lousy menu, service not great, food meh and no vibe or atmosphere. What a disappointment.

Avoid

This restaurant is horrible. The people at the door could not care less. The food is horrible. Skip it and go anywhere else.

Excellent food and service

Overrated

By McmullanP |

Went with my wife and daughter, nice ambience in the restaurant and the waiter was good but clearly wanting a tip and had the same patter with everyone he serviced. Overrated and overpriced. Was average food at overinflated prices.

Great food and BAD SERVICE

By LAURA0124 |

Food was very good, nothing to complain about it, but it would been excellent if i would have got my maincourse of course. We got our appetizers and while we were still eating those , we got the maincourse (1 maincourse only) + 2 side dishes already on the table. So the food runner pushed our appetizer plates on the side so he can drop my husband’s wasabi crust fillet mignon on the table like on a cheap diner. In fact i am sure even there they would wait first. We kept eating the appetizers, then my husband started his maincourse while i was waiting for my maincourse. I kept picking from the side dishes waiting to see the server at least to ask him about my maincourse. He never showed up until the end when the busser already cleared up our table and i told him that my maincourse never came and he can cancel it as my husband already finished his meal. We saw the server once at our table when he checked with our appetizers and then never saw him again!!! We had to pour ourselves the Dom Perignon champagne in the glasses the whole dinner as we waited with the empty glasses in the front of us. Let’s be honest here!!! Tao is great and the food is excellent but the service was always lacking as they hire short time actors and stars “wanna be” that have nothing in common with a restaurant service ( maybe a diner at most). But if you pretend to be a high end restaurant - at least make sure you have servers that know service including opening a bottle of Champagne and not lifting up the glasses in his hands while he pours it, or even worse I ORDER THE BOTTLE and he presented it to my husband. This is BASICS SERVICE !!! You present the bottle and you give a taste to the person that ORDERED that bottle to you regardless it’s a women!!! You don’t decide to present the bottle to the man on the table just because you think that’s the right thing to do !!!! I added a photo after our table was cleared where my husband filled up our glasses as he did anyway through the whole dinner

Keep Coming Back

This is a fun place to have dinner with friends. Your literally transported to a different world. Love the ambiance, drinks and a number of dishes on the menu. It’s just a fun place to be.

A hidden Gem in NY

By L'aquila |

The restaurant is situated at the upper torn of New York and easily reachable by public transport. Being a cozy and trendy place, there is always a crowd waiting to be seated. The reservation system works well and you do not wait any extra minutes than your reservation. The menu is successful and meets all needs. The staff are friendly and doing the best to make you enjoy yor dining experience. I suggest for all occasions and recommend to make a reservation prior to your visit.

Reliably terrific

By NYMertzy |

I've been here before and as usual, the food and service are top notch. The fortune cookie dessert is the best! Customer for life!!! :)

Trendy place

By cristinamaria75 |

Very trendy atmosphere. The music a bit too loud and lights a bit too dim for us. Also AC really freezing. Food was really good. We order a lot of dishes to share ao we teied a bit of everything. Sushi was really good.

Ok... overall. Really loud.

By Belladonna802 |

Ok... overall. Really loud however. The food was good - orange chicken and Satay skewers. Tempura shrimp sushi was “weak” as my daughter said. We had a nice time but couldn’t talk because of the noise.

Consistent asian fusion

By yaniv s |

This is a tourist destination, priced accordingly but offers a club atmosphere and good eats. Chicken skewers with peanut butter, asian salad and fortune cookie desert.

Beyond our expectations!

By mdmoss1 |

Came here for a fun place to take the kids and was blown away by the food! The sushi was by far the best I’ve ever had and all of our entrees, Chilean sea bass, filet mignon, orange chicken were outstanding. Our waiter was fantastic. Really helped us make our selections with great input. The desert fortune cookie and the banana pudding were out of this world. I’m a NY’er and hard to impress. Will definitely be back and soon!!!

Go to PF Chang’s instead

By sheldon_region4 |

Average food with the worst service you can imagine. They haven’t been honest enough to acknowledge that this place only works for Uber Eats or DoorDash, they simply stop caring about the service.

Dark, noisy dark unpleasant

By Grouchohorseman |

So dark it was impossible to read the menu or see the food when it arrived. The thumping music made any conversation and ordering the food a shouting match. The staff were pleasant and helpful when they noticed us. The food was ok if a bit too sweet. The younger members of the crowd may have enjoyed it but I noticed tables emptying as quickly as they were filled. A place to be see in, not a place to eat.

Friendly and no disappointments. Solid if not the most unique Asian kitchen

By erikoinenmatka |

Friendly service. Kitchen works fast. Plentiful portions. Good taste - not super authentic yet really good for a family experience since the kids will enjoy it too. Reasonable pricing for NY.

Fantastic meal with great service

By Littleone527 |

We just left the restaurant and had to quickly write a review while everything was still fresh in our minds. Just a fantastic meal from start to finish. The sushi, dumplings, entrées, and the fabulous chocolate lava cake with salted caramel ice cream were spectacular. Our server, Precious, took care of our every need with a smile and an amazing attitude. The restaurant was very busy, but servers were so attentive and topped off our water constantly. Food came out promptly and at the right temperature. Great selection on the menu. Definitely will be back!

Pricey - but worth it

By Veronica Å |

We were warmly welcomed by an engaged and friendly waiter. He became a bit less available as the visit went on, but still very pleasant. They have a wide selection of dishes and drinks, all of which tasted amazing – but it’s definitely on the expensive side. The atmosphere was fantastic and the place itself is beautiful. Would love to come back.

Delicious food, great experience

By Alier A |

I visited this place on my visit to NYC. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance about it and looks cool inside. We arrived on a Friday afternoon with no reservation and we were seated within five mins. There is a bar area where we waited where you could have a few drinks if you wished to do so. My wife got the steak, I got the kungpow chicken and my two daughters shared the orange chicken (I think it was called). It was some of the BEST if not the best Chinese food I have ever tasted. I sampled each of the above dishes and would have been delighted with either choice. The portions are pretty huge also we had to pack away half the orange and kung pow chicken dishes. The waitress we had was lovely, interacted playfully with my little girls and was the one that suggested the dishes above. It was a bit pricy, I think the bill came to around $140 but I have paid similar and gotten considerably worse food in NYC during my visit and in my opinion it was worth it. I would hugely recommend it for anyone spending time in NYC on a trip.

Beautiful place with great food

By OLenany |

We usually go to Downtown one. And it was our first time in Uptown Tao. We had same great experience. Impeccable service, great food, served fast. Definitely on the list of our favorite places as well.

Always a nice, reliable option in Uptown Manhattan

By PJRibadeneira |

TAO has been around for quite sometime, but the place has managed to become a "classic" in Uptown Manhattan. Their giant buddha still welcomes you at the main dining hall, while servers offer you a premium attention (although it could be a little bit slow at lunch time). Their food menu has very reasonable prices, but be careful when ordering drinks and wine, they are above the market's average!

Shady management

By Robert Lantz |

They are shady, I was double charged by the waitress. I only got one reciept that I signed and my account showed a double charge. I spoke with Ryan Stras head of thier management and he would not refund my duplicate charge. I ask for the director to contact me and he did not and they won't give me their contact info. I had dispute to this charge with my bank and Ryan admitted his waitress double charged me and he still will not correct the situation. I am very angry as i live in Maryland, not New York I only went their to dine on my B-day. Very unfair treatment to a new customer I WILL NEVER GIVE THEM ANY MORE OF MY MONEY!

Very bad welcoming staff

By NA |

Disrespectful staff gave our table because we were only 15 mins late in NY traffic even if we called from taxi. And for punishment they made us wait for another 45 mins. Yes the brand is well known but guys this is just a restaurant ran by egomaniac teenagers. You can do better than this.

Great Food and Amazing Place

By FPAdventurer |

I was surprised that while you wait for your table in the lounge area they do not have servers. You have to go to the packed bar to get a drink. Once you are seated in the restaurant the experience changes. The restaurant has cool decor, the food was great, but the servers do have a bit of an attitude to start. She warmed up to us after a while but it may be that they deal with a lot of obnoxious customers. Who knows. The Pecking Duck is amazing, same with the Chicken Dumplings and the sushi rolls. I really dont think you can go wrong with anything you choose there.

Terrible attendance.

By R Y |

Unfortunately, I made a reservation and we waited more than 30 minutes for the table to be ready. We received poor service and no concerns about the delay. It used to be a good restaurant... today I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Good food but very expensive

By DidILikeItOrNot |

From the outside this place looks bad! Once inside though it is very impressive. We were unsure what to choose so decided to order as we go. We had 4 starters and they were large portions and very tasty. Unfortunately we were too full up to have anymore food as we would have liked to have tried more. We followed the food with the Tao special dessert which was a massive fortune cookie filled with white & dark chocolate mousse and fruit. This was also great. Although the food was good and the atmosphere was buzzy, the tables are really close together and the girl serving us was not very friendly. Whenever we asked any questions she had a bit of a bad attitude and replied with answers like "you do what you want to do girl", "you choose", etc. Although the food was delicious and i would definitely go back here, this is a very expensive restaurant with a fairly quick turnaround. We got the impression that they wanted to get customers out as quick as possible so as to get more seated. Also, $82 for half a duck is very expensive!

Chic, fun and yum

By Grace Annette C Y |

I like to go there once in a while with friends for drinks and appetizers and my family went there together the past Friday for small scale family meal and we loved the services and food there. I loved their Lychee martini, their Tuna Poké. Hubby loved their spicy basil Thai chicken lettuce wraps & steak entrée and our kid loved their clams and miso seaweed soup, appetizers and Thai iced tea. Services were attentive and sincere. Decor is fun. Good and drinks are always good. Will continue to go back once in a while.

Best Asian food in new york

By ellieg1234 |

2nd time visiting tao and it didn’t disappoint ! Amazing food and the decor inside is unreal. Quite expensive for food and drinks but worth it for a nice meal. Only negative was we got sat on a table pretty much with another couple - not exactly the best for a romantic meal! Especially as they weren’t enjoying themselves!

Great Happy Hour for a quick dinner and drinks

By PB123 |

We have eaten here several times before. It has always been good (a bit noisy) and we decided to have an early dinner at the bar. The bar tender was extremely efficient and friendly. We ordered both from the happy hour menu and the regular dinner menu. The happy menu offered some great values for first courses and drinks. We had the 3 mini martinis & beers & sake. Food: dumplings, gyoza, edamame, spicy tuna on rice and one of the chicken main dishes with bok choi as a vegetable. All solid offerings, and we were so full we couldn’t finish. It is a great choice for an after work early dinner.

Good Athmoshere

By Paolo1005 |

I had a good time Service and food were excellent. atmosphere was good. some of the people I was with found the music a little loud I was ok with ii.

Perfect evening at TAO

By Annika_x_x_x_ |

We had a fantastic dinner at Tao Uptown in May 2024. our waiter Keita was friendly, competent and very quick. Plus - more important for me: you could see that he likes working at Tao. We had the orange and the kung pao chicken, which I highly recommend. We will definitely come back - thanks for a great night!

Good times are gone

By peters |

Went to Tao after some years again. Already at the receptionist you could sense boreness and no client friendly smile. We (4) have been seated quite quickly and ordered the menu. 2 having soup with mussels 2 papaya salad. Where the salad was tasty my 2 other friends having mussle soup had stomach problems all day. The waiter was not very attentive and so after 5 minutes the main course has been brought even we have not finished the starter. Saying that to the waiter he just said „this is not my mistake“. As Taos used to be high class in earlier years i cannot confirm anything anymore to go back. Food is mediocre, service is bored, and the decoration dusty.NYC is full of vibrant and delicious food experiences, so i will spend my money elsewhere. Sad! Psp

Average food

By izz892018 |

Theirs restaurant was cool, basically a night club but for dinner. The food wasn’t anything to brag about. Music was nice and loud. Would not recommend for a date, perfect for a birthday celebration among friends.

Good food and vibrant atmosphere

By Anvita72 |

Tao has been our most hands on place In our prolonged stay in NYC. I have visited Tao a couple of times with family and with friends but have always found it buzzing. Very well designed restaurant with a basement disc, a ground floor bar and seating and a level up is resonating Vibrancy. The avocado tempura and sushis are my favourites. Chocolate fondue is a must try dessert.

Great birthday meal

By Emma |

Recently visited for my 40th birthday The staff and food were great I really enjoyed it Great location and atmosphere The desserts are huge we made the mistake of ordering one each but unfortunately we could not finish it

Expensive but good portions

By Foodie1983 |

We were recommended to go to TAO downtown however this was full so we went to their uptown restaurant for dinner. First impressions were good, welcoming host and impressive decoration with a 16 foot buddha statue and water feature creating a focal point in the restaurant. The prices were expensive which was to be expected given the location of the restaurant however the portions were quite large so at least we left with a full stomach. We out a lot for business and I guess if you are putting it on expenses, (like most of the clientele in here will be doing) it doesn't really matter and the restaurant was full so I guess the prices work for them. Toilets and restaurant were clean and we'd consider eating there again.

A family favourite

By nikkirhys |

This place never disappoints consistently good food great atmosphere friendly staff - food can come out slow but just so busy but a family favourite for us - well done!

Nearly perfect

By roadpeops |

We had an amazing time at Tao Uptown. The pictures don't do it justice, it is truly a beautiful setting. We had a table on the upper level overlooking the Buddha. My friend, whose birthday it was, had a birthday greeting waiting at her seat. The drinks were amazing. The food was spectacular! The staff and service was impeccable. I highly recommend the sea bass. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The dumpling appetizer was also incredible. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is not handicap-friendly, but otherwise a gem!

More massive than I thought.

By patriciaDubai |

More massive than I thought. Nice setting but it is a very big restaurant that probably is a club in the nights. Average service, unimpressed with their food. Wouldn’t go back

Beautiful place and great service but the food was just ok.

By GetAway4us23 |

Decided to eat here while on vacation for the weekend. Made reservations for 4. When we walked in this place it was beautiful and a great vibe. Pretty impressive dinning area. Our table was on the second floor and we had a great view of the restaurant. The services was A+ even though our waiter barely spoke english. I tried asking questions about the menu but there was a language barrier issue. He tried to u understand and was extremely friendly. We ordered appetizers that were good but nothing amazing. The rice was exceptional but 3 of the 4 meals were just ok. Not bad but nothing spectacular for the prices. One of the meals was a steak cut into slice for you. We all shared to try different things. The steak was the best thing we ate at the restaurant. It was a sweet/savory flavor. Overall we had a great time and good food. If the food was a bit more impressive I would have given four stars. I will go back again when visiting New York because its a beautiful restaurant and great service.

Terrible

By Mariau88 |

Waiting for one hour despite having a reservation. Finally had to leave. Very unsafe. Packed. Unfriendly. Don’t lose your time. They send you to a “lounge”, and can spend there all night waiting. Don’t go. Reservation not respected.

Excellent!

By LitsaChr |

Food (and we did try many of their dishes) and service was excellent! Was on a short trip to New York with friends and we all loved it, stongly reccomended .

Great food with some Service Issues

By 212nytraveler |

We were in for a late lunch (2pm on a weekday) & the place was 70% empty. First, they marched us straight to the worst table in the room (next to the stairs to the bathrooms) when there were many, many, other decent tables available, a pet peeve of mine. We were more than appropriately dressed, so no issues there. Restaurants should never use the table next to the bathroom or waitress station, etc, unless absolutely necessary. It should be the last table used. Ordered a few appetizers, but didn't want to order main meal yet because we weren't sure if we would be able to eat any more. Server told us they had a rule about ordering everything together (understandable if it weren't empty in the middle of the afternoon) & was fairly cold in her delivery. She warmed up slowly as the meal went on (or we got closer to the tip). When the check came, I gave her my credit card, & she announced - as if it were some rare, unforseeable event that we pay with a credit card - that she has to use a machine for the card. Now, using a machine in itself isn't the problem - but her standing there, holding the machine staring at your face while you press a button for the tip amount is AWKWARD! Really puts you on the spot & makes the process very uncomfortable. Food excellent though, would be a 5 star with some service improvements, especially since it's a very high priced restaurant

Very good Asian in NYC

By Yash Poddar |

Very good menu that has a mix of Japanese Thai & Chinese food with trendy atmosphere and great service too.. good cocktails & drinks

You pay for the environment which is great.

By kristin8788 |

The atmosphere is fun and exciting...I did visit during the "unlockdown" so I do believe the staff may have been a little rusty. I found this for comparable restaurants throughout NYC. Overall, we had a great time! Just give the staff a little grace, as we have all had a tough year. We had a fantastic bottle service and fun drinks along the way.

La maison de la casa house redux

By eternaloptimist815 |

In "Alice, Let's Eat," Calvin Trillin wrote disparagingly of the kind of people who would pass up a delicious-smelling barbecue joint in Kansas City in favor of a place serving fancy "Continental" cuisine called La Maison de la Casa House. Transfer this to Manhattan and consider "Continental" Asian "fusion" cuisine, and you have this place. The telltale signs were everywhere on the menu, whose sections went from "Dim Sum" to "Noble Treasures of tthe Sea" to "From the Air" to "From the Land" to, incongruously, "From the Sides." 9 dollars for an order of steamed rice might be a giveaway too. Not a single dish had detectable spice, including the piece de resistance, kung pao chicken that, apart from the chicken, had on resemblance. to that dish -- no chilis or peppercorns, maybe a peanut somewhere, chicken deep fried and coated in sweet and sour sauce, pineapple -- if it had been "blessed memories of 1970s sweet and sour chicken" it would have been truth in advertising, but it wasn't. In all fairness, most of the rest of the dishes were decent if completely unspicy productions of what they were called. For many tens of dollars for each dish. Pulsing music and too much A/C completed the vibe. I would pay a lot not to go back.

Very slow service

By kingofcashmere |

have been here 4 times before and the food is great but the service on this occasion was truly appalling . Took my family on our NY break and had told them about Tao. Waited 40 minutes to get our table which was booked for 8.15 .OK it’s a busy restaurant but that pushing it . Appetisers came within 30 minutes and were superb BUT sadly after 1 hour no mains ‘ it’s on its way sir ‘ 1 hr 10 . Just leaving the kitchen 1hr 20 nothing . It was 10.40 by the us time so we said enough was enough and asked for the bill. Then the pompous waiter said he had spoken with Chef and they were willing to remove the mains from the bill which was really good of them as we never received them ! What a Cretin ! Called the manager explained the situation and he handled it the best way he could which I will not reveal .

Consistent good option.

By jenn_ |

Tao is always a good time. Not much changes in terms of the food decor or experience. On point per usual. Same tried and true dishes are still winners.

Great Dinner

By Stephanie D |

Sushi was delicious, atmosphere was great. Will be returning again this weekend! The service was great and we had a gerat time celebrating my friend's engagement there.

RUDE DISRESPECTFUL STAFF

By Nadia |

I have been a regular here for a while - ordering lunch there daily. Made an online order for my dad and when he tried to pick it up the staff was very rude and disrespectful. They did not prepare the food on time and said he will have to wait outside in the cold and would not let him wait in the reception area until it is ready. They also said it in a very disrespectful manner. The food was 30 min late. While I've been happy with the food, will avoid because of the disrespectful staff. Why would I pay to get terrible service?!

Always Amazing

By KeytonM |

This is one of our favorite places to eat when we are in NYC. The food is always amazing and the service and atmosphere is top notch.

NYC favorite!

By Arkansastraveler74 |

I love Tao! The orange chicken is so crispy and taste delicious. We went for lunch and my friend had the pre-fix lunch for $32 and she liked it. This is a must do for me in NYC.. lunch was very quite and nice.

Good food with bad service

By Henrique L |

I had been to the restaurant in 2017 and loved it, I made a point of returning. The food is still very good, but expensive wines with few options and terrible service! The waitress didn't make any effort to be cordial or explain the dishes with good will.

Very bad service

By larissa x |

I had a very bad experience starting when I got to the place, I waited almost 1 hour to sit and I had a reservation for 9:30 the time I was on the table was 10:20pm. After that, the waiter was very very very rude with me, I asked him a question and he pointed to the menu saying, didn’t you read? It’s here. I don’t recommend this place and I’ll never come back!

Thai dinner.

By Fiorea62 |

We had already been years ago in this very particular local restaurant on three levels, the staff were kind and quick in serving, we tried several things, all good, the only flaw was very noisy.

Young, vibrant restaurant

By dustythoughts |

This marvelous, super-popular restaurant was a great place to celebrate my mother's birthday. The whole restaurant has preppy Asian-fusion vibes, with cool staff and hip music. The whole crowd was young and vibrant. We checked in for our reservation and had a 10-minute wait in the (loud) bar, but we were then seated at a table upstairs where it was marginally quieter. The menu has a lot of options for everyone, with a variety of dim sum, small plates, and entrees. Food came out relatively quickly after we ordered. The Chilean sea bass was sublime, the red snapper had a deliciously small kick to it, and the eggplant side that came with the red snapper was delicious. I also really liked the duck egg rolls. The one thing I'll say is that the music upstairs got progressively louder throughout the night so that it got harder and harder to hear everyone else at the table.

1st stop everytime i am in NY

By dryfus14 |

I usually post my reviews on Open Table..but thought I would use Trip Advisor to reach another audience. I always look forward to going to Tao Uptown [which I prefer than the Downtown location]. Great space with an animated downstairs bar. Nice menu and great Red Dragon cocktails...but... what makes my dining experience the best since I mostly dine alone on business, is the bartender upstairs, Joynas is the best! He makes a tasty Red Dragon and is super nice! Already looking forward to my next trip!

Nice place, delicious food, staff so so

I loved the place but I didn’t find the hostess and stuff very friendly, the reservation was in a booth table and they didn’t care even when my friend told them that he make a reservation in a booth, they said when one of them is free we will change and guess what!? That never happened, food was great we started we lucky cat cocktails, and the appetizer was chicken gyoza with chili garlic sauce, it’s a little bit spicy but I love spice stuff, then my friend had the filete mignon and I had Thai sweet and spicy shrimp with tamarind and bell pepper, we were really happy with our meals, I could easily come back cuz I find the food amazing and I like the environment and decoration of the place, the stuff well it’s NYC and no much to do with people ...

Very nice place, but very

By niemol |

Very nice place, but very fancy too. Food Waw perfect, special lobster with ricd was delicious! It is nice place to see how NY lubes at night etc. but the music is TOO noisy. I know that people prefer to No talk but with such nosie it is impossible to talk with yelling :) but still recomend it!

Very poor service

By ashurbanipal5 |

Some of the worst service I’ve experienced. It began with the hostess who was curt and borderline rude. It continued with the bartender, who seemed like he had more important things to do than help customers. And the waiter had to pay reminded several times. Really poor overall. Avoid

Dinner in Manhattan

By Dean H |

Great modern Chinese food and an extensive sushi menu all in one place. A very trendy and spacious building with ground floor and loft level dining and a noisy and vibrant ambience. The food was terrific and exceeded our expectations and the service provided by Alexander was impeccable. We also thought that the prices were reasonable for the quality and the location.

Terribly disappointed and sick....

By frederic b |

We ordered a wine that we liked on the menu (DAOU Reserve, Cabernet-Sauvignon 2022) , we were surprised to find that the one served to us did not correspond to that of the wine list, although bearing the same name but of inferior quality (DAOU, Cabernet-Sauvignon).... at the same Award. The explanation given to us was that this was an error in the drafting of the wine list and no commercial gesture was proposed. It would have been honest to point this out when taking the order and not after serving us the wine.... But the worst thing was that the three of us were experiencing terrible symptoms of food poisoning all night..... We are not ready to go back to this restaurant

Excellent Food

By Adventure521007 |

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with few friends and family. The food was excellent and much to our surprise, for a group of 8, with meals, drinks and shared dishes, the price was not very high as we had anticipated.

Far too cold !

By Lesley T |

Sadly the restaurant was very cold and continued to be despite asking 4 times for the air conditioning to be turned down. So many tables had people sitting around in their coats, because it was so cold. Food was nice but served far too quickly. In and out within an hour, does not make for a memorable evening. Felt like they just wanted to rush every out, so they could get the next lot of customers in. Would not return.

Overpriced and not super friendly

By Cassie |

The best thing about this place is that the food was pretty good. Beyond that however it just wasn’t the best experience. We were there for a friends birthday and were squished into a table between a post and other tables of people pushing into our backs. Our waitress was not super friendly. When we told another server who stopped by our table that it was our friends birthday, he excitedly told us to “pick out a couple of birthday desserts”, implying that they were on the house...they were not, and they were probably $20 ea that we otherwise wouldn’t have ordered. It’s just the little things that make a difference and for those reasons I wouldn’t go back to Tao.

Great Experience

By Frank P |

The food, atmosphere and service was fantastic, loved it all from the decor to the fast service. The food was great, will be back

no class

By Angela P |

This place is a tourist trap, ur paying to look at the COY fish pond and the big IRON Buddha s , its a lively place and ok for a drink but the food is very underwhelming ! WE HAD RAW PORK Potstickers, and the fish was overcooked and this place is very $$$$ , I would never recommend it !

Perfect special occasion lunch

By robertjamessaunders |

We went for a weekday family lunch and I think this was sensible - the set menu at $29.99 for two courses, $34.99 for three was excellent value (and there is a lunchtime 'three tiny martini flight' for $15 which made a great accompaniment), the place was not crowded and the (terrific) music was just the right volume. I think that in the evening it would be far more crowded, much noisier and much more expensive. The set menu was very good and the portions were generous - we certainly did not need the extra portions of rice we ordered. We also had a smoked salmon roll ($23) to share - it came in eight slices and was an excellent addition. The decor is simply amazing and service (from Kara) was marvellous - warm, witty, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Terrific place.

extremely thick hostess

By Leonardo A |

We had a bad experience at this restaurant. I will never return. Unfriendly hostess. to work with the public it is necessary to be friendly and flexible, unfortunately we were not well attended.

One of my fav places in the city

By ginadthompson |

Love TAO! always a great vibe and food. Menu is pricey but good music, crowd and food. I would highly recommend an outing here for a Saturday night with the Chinese sausage/shrimp fried rice. Also, must try the cocktails!!!!

INCREDIBLE!!!

By scoutharper |

We had the best dinner here!! We took out 2 sons and absolutely loved it from beginning to end! Food and cocktails/wine were amazing and the service was perfect!! Would absolutely recommend visiting!

Loud, ice cold, food but top!

By geniesser242015 |

The restaurant looks very chic inside, but unfriendly and impersonal welcome. The Mood is very noisy and not for a nice evening dinner for two! It was so cold that you were freezing despite the sweater and you were glad you were out again. The 4 points are only awarded because the food was really top quality. Recommendation ehr only at 50%. Next time we will try the TAO downtown.

So overpriced!

By L A |

We were really looking forward to our meal here and left very disappointed. Upon getting to the restaurant we had to wait a while for our table - which seems silly when you book and pay a deposit to secure your space. The waiting room was cramped and very loud. When we got to our table the restaurant was very loud and dark - ambient but we could barely see or hear anything! The food was average and not at ALL worth nearly $300. The restaurant didn’t even take off the money we’d paid for the deposit. The whole place was just packed with people taking photos for Instagram. It was really quite a sight. People obviously go just to take photos and not actually are bothered about the food. But it’s very off putting when there are flashes going off in your face and you can’t get down the stairs to use the toilet because people are taking photos there. Seriously would not recommend, we felt like we wasted our money,

Excellent place! Amazing food!!!

Great food!!!!! Excellent environment!!! More Dark situation with dishes for all tastes!! Try sushi and sweets!!

Fantastic Night

By kslg |

We love Tao. We come here every time we come to NYC. We went here last night after a day of Christmas shopping and it was fantastic. We had a fabulous seat and our waiter was spot on. The food was delicious. The reception woman was so friendly, too.

Overpriced, toilets look like in a simple British pub, all the fuss out of nowhere.

By Ayla N |

The food is ok, really don’t get where from all this fuss came? We had to book the place in advance, but compare what you get in return for what you pay, the place is average. In UK average Japanese restaurant would be better than this place. Hence, overall my dining experience in USA is not good. Probably one of the worst places to have a gastro tour:)

GOOD REQUEST!!

By Allan C |

The restaurant environment is pretty exotic, I went with 4 kids 5,6,7,8 they loved, good food and good Condimented good to take care of the children, would not ask the Peking Duck for who likes ...

STAY THE F*CK OUT OFF THIS PLACE

By N B |

My friend was physically abused by a girl at your event space. She forcibly pushed my friend at the party and called the security guard on us. We were physically mentally and emotionally humiliated tonight by the abuser girl and your security guard. At such a multicultural city, being racist and kicking out the Asian group is an UNACCEPTABLE behavior. We demand and demand an official apology from your employee and the abuser girl!

Abundant and very tasty dishes. Charming place

By Giulia T |

Excellent place, suggestive, in line with the prices of other American restaurants. Oriental cuisine and hearty dishes.

What a horrible experience

By Jonathan H |

We arrived early for our table and had to wait in a cattle pen of a bar. There was a palpable simmering tension in the over-stuffed room - no tinkling laughter or romance or fun - perhaps because from the first moment it was clear we weren't guests, we were just business. When half an hour after our reservation we still hadn't been seated, we decided to push through the crowd of similarly disgruntled 'diners', hand back our beeper, and leave. Maybe the food's good, but the experience, the atmosphere and the attitude is not. AVOID

Trendy Asian

By Cricket002 |

Trendy Asian restaurant with great decor and so so food. Went with a big group and ordered many different dishes. Nothing stood out.

You pay for the ambience and location. Food is average

By Shivalax |

Nice decor and very good service. Food was average. For instance the few pieces of the Kung Pao chicken was nice and moist & few were hard. Salmon was good and so were the spare ribs. The chicken with Lettuce was bit off. U pay for the ambience & location and not for the food.

Beautiful space with exquisite food & atmosphere

By German B |

We came for an anniversary dinner. The bar scene was quite lively downstairs, but we got a table upstairs. We had a view at tables down below as well as of the restaurant, which has a wonderful Asian sense of decor and lighting. The drinks (TaoTinis and margaritas) were excellent, and we ordered the chicken gyoza dimsum appetizers - awesome! Our meals of honey salmon and curried scallops were delicious. We finished with their chocolate cake (divine) and cappuccinos. Service was spot on all night and we had a wonderful time there. It is definitely pricey for Chinese food, but everything was upscale, perfect and worth it for a special occasion. Well done! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60763-d425705-r989602711-TAO_Uptown-New_York_City_New_York.html#

Not an upscale authentic Asian restaurant - a disco place with some kind of Asian food for Teenager, Bachelors …

By Sven H |

This is by far not an upscale Asian restaurant besides the price. It is more a loud disco place with some Asian food for teenagers, bachelor and birthday parties! The food is ok but by far not authentic Asian food. Fact is that even the speciality „Kung Pao Chicken“ is a „Sweet & Sour Chicken“ with some crushed peanuts on top but has definitely nothing to do with an authentic „Kung Pao“ dish! The table setting is poor with poor wood tables as many fast food restaurant would not allow to have. Overall a huge disappointment!

Amazing place

By Victor G |

This place is amazing, fast service even it was full , good services, excellent food, amazing drinks, very nice environment 🙌🏻👍🏻

Great late lunch/early dinner

By Matthew W |

We had a late lunch/ early dinner before a concert and as such the restaurant was a lot quieter and altogether more civilised than our last visit. It was still busy enough but the service and food were excellent. The kung po chicken would have fed 4! Really enjoyed this visit

🤩 wow

Amazing food - great service - wonderful atmosphere- came here for my daughters 18th birthday celebration - did not fail to impress. Pricey but worth it 💕

Dinner

By Raven M |

I came to tao to celebrate my birthday and the food was delicious ! Although they ran out of the crab and lobster the waitress let me know of her favorites always on the menu which was delicious . Also they had strong drinks !!

Waste of time

By Martin M |

What a waste of time. We had a reservation for 19:00. They over book their restaurant. 20 of wait , no sign of a table in the next hour . Just left . Why pay for a reservation ahead if they don’t deliver . Dont go

Great service, excellent food and great place to bring out of town guests

By Charles A |

Ready to seat us exactly on time, but our friends were delayed by 15 minutes. They had us wait in the bar area, which is large and comfortable, until the full party had arrived; so I had a Lychee martini which was yummy, but a little pricey. As soon as our friends arrived, we were seated right away. I asked to sit upstairs and they easily said yes. Server Marisa was awesome -- knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive to the different food tastes amongst the 4 of us. We shared 4 small plates for appetizers: Tuna Tartare, Satay Chicken, TAO Temple Salad, and Steamed Edamame -- all very good. Four entrees: Peking Duck for two was wonderful, Chow Fun with Stir Fried Vegetables and Tofu for our vegetarian, and Triple Port Fried Rice with Port Belly, BBQ Roast Port and Chinese Sausage. The wine list is extensive -- selected a sparkling rose. Marisa recommended a nicer, more expensive bottle, Flowers Rose that was significantly marked down on sale to only a little more than the bottle what I was going to order -- what Marissa recommended turned out to be a wonderful choice. No room for dessert, but the list did look interesting! As we were leaving some other diners were taking their picture near the stairs with that Big Buddha in the background. We couldn't help ourselves -- I walked over to ask Marissa who happened to be talking to a colleague of hers, if she would take our picture; she smiled warmly and agreed to take the picture for us -- she actually used two phones at the same time to take the pictures -- again, all with a big smile. To reiterate -- great service, excellent food and it was a great choice place to bring our friends who were visiting NYC from South Africa.

Horrible

By karissa d |

Bouncers let multiple groups go in before us. Didn’t explain why. We waited for over 20 minutes with before walking away because the cold, the wait, and the guys asking for money next to the club was not worth it. The people that cut in front of us paid 100$+ for 2, as a “labeled high scale club” I would have been willing to pay, but wasn’t even given the chance.

Can't wait to go back. . . still full the next morning!!

By Daun F |

Had a 600pm reservation last night for my daughter and college roommate. We were seated promptly, had amazing food (beautiful to both the eyes and tastebuds) and had some of the best, most attentive service we've ever had in NYC (and we come in from Jersey A LOT). Can't recommend the sizzling seafood stir fried rice enough (big enough for three to share) and the big dessert (can't remember what it's called) was beautiful, tasty and enough for 4-5 to share!!! Perfect end to the meal. Not surprisingly the sushi was VERY fresh and melted in our mouths.

Amazing!

By bella3004 |

Amazing restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation couple days before. We had ours at 8 pm, and it's better to come later to feel the real experience. For ut it wass too early st start, so it was still like tourist-family place, with people coming with families or in sneakers and sweats. Later it was more clubbing atmosphere. Food was more than amazing, drinks also, people working there super kind and welcoming, I would go back again!

Good Asian food with decent ambience

By Ushuaia4 |

The food at the restaurant was very good as the staff who checked us in were outstanding and the lady who served us at the bar while we were waiting was awesome. However the server on the upper floor was less than ideal and his service was subpar. Did not think to check on us at all after the food was served and we had to ask for the manager, Chris, because of it. Hopefully, he will provide some remedial training. Food was great and the bar did a great job with my cocktail, but food service was below average.

Only a nice place

By Jorge Tunon |

Nice place with good asian food...but... drinks at the bar were undrinkable. I tried a Gin Tonic that was pure gin with water. They don't have tonic. Service regular.

Incompetent Manager

By Avery H |

Highly disappointed in the manager of this establishment. Went there with a party of four, was told we have to take body temperature. I informed the manager I would like my wrist or inner arm temperature read. She informed our party she can only scan the middle of the forehead because the thermometer can only read the forehead. I informed her she’s inaccurate and insisted I needed to talk to the general manager. She said she was. After about a 15 minute stand off with her, informing her how we came far and wide to eat at one of our favorite restaurants, a member of my party asked her what about the back of the head. She said “ok” to that area. Earlier, she informed us the thermometer couldn’t work no where else but the middle of the forehead. She ended up not even taking the temperature but gesturing as if she did. We had reservations for 8:15pm didn’t get seated to eat around 9:00pm due to an incompetent manager. Even her own staff was complaining about her actions.

Actually managed to spoil our New York trip

By CaliforniaDreaming_9 |

If you want to feel like a number, go here. It's obvious that this is just a business and nothing to do with service or experience. Can't speak for the food because we left and had a good time at The Bar Room on E60th instead. Seriously, don't give the people who run this your time or money.

Cool Experience

By Ryan131983 |

This was a very cool experience. When we arrived we, were given a buzzer and asked to wait in the bar, we did so and enjoyed a drink. Our wait was about 30 minutes. When we were shown to our table, the waiting staff were friendly and explained the menu to us. We had 2 starters and a main to share. There was plenty of food and it was very tasty. Our only complaint was about the temperature. We were on the side right under a fan and it was cold. (We did not complain) I would recommend this place.

Beautiful restaurant, and excellent fresh food

By LBHouston11 |

Lunch was amazing-the lunch special —chicken lettuce wraps-best ever—and kung pao chicken—so fresh with incredible water chestnuts-excellent sauce…and dessert! Mango sorbet with coconut Love this place!

50th birthday dinner

Tao was amazing. The cocktails were awesome. The vibe was amazing and all the food was delicious. I recommend the short ribs small plate. It melts in your mouth.

Disappointed

There was a bit disappointing experience. The service was slow. We had to get up several times to be served. The cleaning also had shortcomings. The food was you fair. But not value for money

Great restaurant for late lunch

By Matthias Kohle |

Every time we visit New York, Tao Uptown is at the top of our list — it’s become a tradition! The food is always amazing, full of bold flavors and beautifully presented. From appetizers to dessert, everything tastes fresh and perfectly prepared.

Top of the line in NYC

By Edomommy |

Superb pan-Asian food, lovely atmosphere (photo-worthy), and ready to seat us at exactly the time of our reservation (make a reservation, it's that popular)! The staff is so attentive, but not intrusive, it really is a smooth experience. I just love the decor and the presentation of the food. Even though we always like to try out new places, we make sure to get here once a year!!!

Friendly dinner

By alkimadrid |

My friend and I meet every time I'm in NYC in a restaurant close to grand central, makes the commute easier for both of us. This time we wanted asian food so we chose TAO. It was my first time there, at the entrance I thought it was a small place, until we were shown to our table, This place is immense! It's located in multiple levels, all looking internally onto a huge Buddha statue. When we arrived it was early so it wasn't that busy but by the time we left it was completely full. On a week night. We decided to take small plates and share in order to try more than one. Everything was very tasty, well presented and cooked to our taste. Our waited was friendly and professional. I find it pricey for the amount of food we ordered. On our way out we decided to stop by the bar for a drink. It was hugely overpriced but really tasty, I don't remember the name of it but it was a cocktail with a bubbly wine and strawberry. If you want to spend 20$ on a drink that's the one to order!

Not the same

By EliteTravellers |

It has been years since we visited this location and while close to Times Square, the next visit will be back downtown. Early dinner, so place was cold until it filled up. Ordered a Moscato (sweet) and they brought me another wine instead of just telling me it wasn’t available. Had Satay bass, potstickers and our favorite sea bass for appetizers. For main course Branzino, sea bass (not as good as the appetizer), sausage rice. Sticky rice for dessert. Decent service from Paolo but not excellent.

A wonderful place. The food was very good and especially the attention of a waiter named Diego.

By benigno gonzalez |

The restaurant is beautiful, very good atmosphere, wonderful food and tremendous service, especially from a waiter named Diego. Thank you very much for all your attention.

Unique experience

By SP |

High-quality food overall, but I liked the starters / sushi a bit more than my main course. Nice interior. Very busy and loud place which was not ideal for our business meeting.

Great Ambiance!

By 3BoysPlusMOM |

Fantastic atmosphere, delicious food, great service! Even prices seemed reasonable considering NYC....3 people, 2 appetizers and 3 mains plus 2 drinks were $205.....Would definitely go again!!!

We visited this restaurant

By Gill163557 |

We visited this restaurant two days ago, what a dreadful experience. This is canteen food all pre prepared and served like a conveyor belt. My main course was blackened cod €45 served white, undercooked and luke warm. The whole meal cost €185 for two people what a rip off. If you want quality food and a nice experience don’t visit this restaurant, you are served your food quicker than McDonalds.

Peanut & Tree nut Allergy friendly

By Brooklyn278 |

We are always looking for the hidden food gems in NY, but we can never go wrong with TAO Uptown. Eating at these large trendy restaurants is an experience but sometimes food and service suffer. Not At TAO’S. We have been dining here for many years and it is never a disappointment. If you are not aware, TAO is an Asian fusion style restaurant with a Thai flare. With that being said, eating out can be a challenge with a severe nut allergy. Since TAO’s has a lot of peanut sauce, you would think it is not wise to eat here. Well, I have to disagree, every time we tell the server about our allergy nothing gets ordered until we get an okay from the kitchen. The servers go above and beyond to understand our allergy and list the items we can order and if another person in the party orders something with nuts the server will make us aware of it. My favorite is when the dessert menu is presented and the server without letting us look at the menu tells us each item that we can order which is safe. The food is always consistent, presented well and of course delicious. Reservations are not easy to get but it is worth the wait. Brooklyn278.com

Fun place but noisy

By orrdin |

Tao is a fun place to visit - has a great vibe, always crowded and good food and drinks. My only issue was it was very noisy where we sat. But overall was a fun evening.

Mediocre food, Snoody service

By Piotr P |

The restaurant serves mediocre, at best, food that is overpriced. The service is snooty and wait times for your reserved table are routinely 30 minutes. With all of the delicious food available in New York how this restaurant stays in business is beyond me. Maybe for the Instagram photos ? Save your money and go somewhere else. $10 food in Chinatown is better than Tao.

Low quality of the food.

By Promtus F |

Reservation was at 19:30 but we had to wait for an hour to get to our table. Cocktails in the bar wasnt very balanced and it seems this is a buisness idea to have people drinking and waitinf for their table, this i can understand but 1 hour!! The waitress was just lacking good service but the worst was the food. The Orange Chicken was very dry and there so called Waguy Beef was the worst quality iv ever had, we had to send it out. Just to say i have 30 years of restaurant experience and i work with some great chefs. Otherwise its a busy place and cool wibe.

DO NOT GO

By VVVi |

DO NOT GO!!! Its horrible: - very loud - very busy - awful staff - terrible music - rude service We came for a booking with a reservation and were told to wait. Waited 15 mins. Asekd again. No result. Waited another 15 mins. After half an hour and no table, alongside maybe another 30 people waiting and they also had no table, we decised to leave. The reservation was prepaid. Wondering when we get the money back

Lively atmosphere

By ronos |

Really good Asian food, and an absolutely great vibe in the restaurant for a night out. New york prices. Only thing is was a bit too dark...couldn't actually read the menu in the light! Would recommend for a weekend night out

Great food!

Tao is one of the best Asian fusion restaurants I’ve been to. We started sharing some Dim Sum, followed by sushi. All very good and highly recommended.

Great food. Great atmosphere shame about some parts

By Loving life |

Great food. Great atmosphere , Shame greeting staff let it down . We Returned here and had a great night and meal. The greeting staff have a lot to learn , talking and looking down at customers, talk to them awful and they all to table point and walk off , no goodbye thanks. Too busy trying to look important in tatty Badly fitted outfits. Management won’t say anything as obvious friendship and cuddles . Shame. Ruined a good night. Manners cost 0 , waiting staff good. Have us wrong drinks twice and food was warm . But very tasty. USA yes you get a tip but I’m UK would struggle . Shame. Would not return. Next visit .

Fantastic

By Grace W |

This is not my first time at this restaurant and I loved it as much (if not more) than before. Ambiance is absolutely stunning. Any of the pictures you see barely do any justice to this place. Most definitely a restaurant for a special occasion, if you’re looking for one. Service is fantastic. Staff is super attentive and definitely on point. Food - Star of the show - simply wow! I know the Chilean sea bass is mentioned quite a bit but serious, an absolute must try. This shush would turn anyone into a fish lover. So incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned to make this melt in your mouth delicious. The scallops were amazing as well, another must try. I seriously want to go back just for that sea bass. We went for my husband’s birthday and they brought a giant fortune cookie filled with half vanilla & half chocolate mousse. Soooo good. Perfectly crispy and light. Delicious ending to an amazing dinner.

Walk in Sushi at the Bar

By The O’Neals |

On a business trip. Went in on a Friday night to sit at bar and have dinner. Super busy at 7:30 but I got a seat at the bar. It was loud and that’s okay when you are solo. I don’t think I could have heard others talking if I was with a group. Food was excellent. Will go back. Close to Central Park.

Amazing Decor, Ok Food !

By Rodes |

Arrived and was amazed by the decor of this restaurant! Absolutely amazing and has a great atmosphere. We were asked to sit for a while and then upon being called for our table and are taken through it is out of this world. We ate upstairs, and the view was amazing. Our starters arrived and we were very pleased all round. Our waiter explained all and was very helpful with our wine selection was was delious. However when our mains arrived they were only luke warm which was disappointing. Sweet was amazing, and coffee to follow. No Drambuie for the hubby, but I had Baileys for an afternoon dinner drink with coffee.

Trash!

By planetographer |

This was by far the worst meal we have ever had in our lives. The seafood they served us reeked of rotten trash and when we mentioned it to the server she pleasantly took it away but never offered us any credit for it. We literally sent full plates of food back to the kitchen - that’s how bad it was! Do not trust the photos people post - they don’t do the justice - what they serve is pure trash and unless you want to have the worst meal of your life get some sort of food poisoning, stay away from this place. Trash, trash, trash.

It was nice trying it the place.

By tony2905 |

We just loved to NYC so learning the city and it’s places. We went here to celebrate a bday in a fun way. It did not dissapoint. We likes the food, the place has a good vibe. Not the best food food out there, but it was good.

Quick lunch

By Jaclyn R |

We thought it would just be a quick lunch.....it was a great experience. The decor was beautiful. We had a pre fixed lunch menu. I got the vegetable egg rolls, chicken pad Thai and the banana pudding. It was delicious but that banana pudding was one of the best desserts I have ever eaten!! My husband had the shrimp skewers, Kung pao chicken and the parfait. The BEST Kung pao chicken I have ever had. I couldn’t keep my chopsticks out of his plate!! Can’t wait to come back.

European family visit

By Damian A |

Our family came over from Europe and we took them around the city showing them the sights. We only thought it fitting to dine here. Mackenzie was our server and she was on point and made the experience very memorable. She suggested items and we enjoyed everything that was served. The kids loved the dumplings and they didn’t stand a chance. Should have gotten three orders. The sushi rolls were so fresh no sauce was needed to enhance the flavor. The red snapper special was the best way I’ve ever had snapper. The crust was perfect and the sauce enhanced the flavor and the subtle heat was a beautiful finish. The lacquered pork was tender and had a sweet sauce drizzle pairing. The pork fried rice was also a hit. Dessert was a selection of ice cream and sorbet with the added lava cake boxed in chocolate.

Worth a visit

By Linda |

The food and service were fabulous. Unfortunately, we were only sitting in a drafty corner. The price-performance ratio is right. Water is refilled free of charge without you having to say anything. The toilets are also super fancy. In general, the restaurant has an exciting atmosphere.

Tau going downhill: hope they change management before it’s too late

By Aha444 |

We went to this restaurant years ago and had a great experience. Unfortunately, and I use that word for a reason, this was not the case this time. We called up and told the woman that we were going to be late for our reservation by about 15 minutes as we were walking to the restaurant but I was on hold for 10 minutes. Once she finally picked up the phone, she said you were a minute too late on letting us know so “unfortunately your reservation has been canceled” I tried to explain to her we are only 30 seconds at this point from the restaurant. She kept using the word unfortunately and basically sorry about your luck. When we got there, we told them we were here, and a different woman was nice and actually seated us after a few minutes, no problem. When we got there they had plenty of tables. The wine list was outdated, the food was so-so, the atmosphere -- the whole situation just wasn't as good as it used to be. Before we sat down we got a drink at the bar and the cocktail waitress kept telling me she gave me my credit card back and I knew she did it and then lo and behold she “found it“ I guess on the floor inside the bar somewhere. When the waitress first greeted us our greeting was “so do you know what you want “. Tough greeting when you’re about to spend close to $1000 for a table of four people. Probably won't be going back.

a better version of PF Chang's

I've been here 5x in past 15 years. I feel like it's really good, but a notch below what it should be. Took a friend who was in from out of town here for his birthday. We had the chicken lettuce wraps, sushi, scallops and Wasabi steak. It was all very good, but nothing screamed out "this is the best thing ever!" It's a cool vibe inside and you feel like you're at a cool NYC restaurant. Our server (Sven) was terrific and enhanced our experience.

A blast!

This is a packed, noisy, wonderful place. We sat at a round tale with 7 people and shared so many terrific dishes. The service is very competent and friendly and there was NO dish that disappointed. Try the giant fortune cookie for dessert. Enough for everyone--very whimsical.

Amazing family experience

By Hicksy |

Visited early evening pre theatre with family. The food, service and the overall atmosphere was really fantastic. We sat down just after 5pm and it was a little quiet but by 6pm the place was buzzing. The variety of food choice was very good and we just shared 5 or 6 dishes all of which were beautifully cooked and presented. Service was also very attentive. Really can’t fault this place.

Good food and atmosphere

Great appetizer menu as well as entree menu. Beautiful inside - great bar too. Not a lot of alcohol in the cocktails which were on the steep side ($20). Delicious dinner and would definitely go back!

Drinks were great ! Not very

Drinks were great ! Not very happy about the food ..ordered a appetizer and there was a hair cooked into it so it kinda turned me off , I do recommend trying their lychee martini ( with tequila) trust me 😉

still a very good choice if you are looking for a fancy place

i have been to Taos last time in 2016. the service is still on a very high level, attentative and fast, the selection of food and beverage is still very good- we enjoyed and will come back again next time!

Tao uptown Manhattan

By Claudio P |

Worse place ever, we booked for 930pm seating, got there a little early and wait for the text message to get the table, we waited for 40 minutes and nothing, they just said "people are paying the checks...", it is crowed, loud and certainly a place with an interesting mix of people, not a good place for those who are looking nice atmosphere and good quality. While we waited we had drinks, we couldn't finished them as they tasted awful and extremely expensive. OVERALL: NEVER AGAIN

WOW!!! It is not a compliment- this restaurant has an unbelievably bad management. Although we had to make a deposit to reserve a table, we got our table 20 minutes later. The restaurant was literally at 1/5 of capacity and offered an awful table which they refused to change. The reason was that there were no waiters but you could see 8 waiters just talking among themselves. Worst of all, when we talked to the Manager, he dismissed our bad experience by saying that “it was usual for customers to have to do long waits to be seated despite their reservations” which makes it seem like this is a recurring problem. The Manager Ryan Stras was incredibly rude and threatening. To name just a few of the things he did: refused to change our table even though there was plenty of space and other families were getting seated after us in diferente tables, condescendingly said that my daughter was underage without caring to ask for an ID which she had because she is 22, and essentially tried to kick us out after raising his tone to us and not wanting to refund our deposit even though we made it on time to our reservation. There are too many good restaurants in NYC to waste your time in this one; would not recommend.

Busy but really tasty

This was a very busy spot but the food did not suffer for this - really enjoyable .. but my colleague did order the vegetarian dish and looked like Peas/rice and was not that appetising. The portions were excellent though another friend had a crab and it looked like the full catch had been delivered.

Vegan options are great

Food was great but we dined at 10 pm And there was zero atmosphere and staff were all packing away and rushing us to order so we didn’t enjoy as much

Overrated and bit disapointing

we ordered four courses and a wine. Three were excellent and one was OK. the value for money was not worth it, not spectacular.

Enjoyed the restaurant but not the food poisoning!

By pa1984s |

We enjoyed our night at this restaurant, great atmosphere, staff very helpful, food seemed great with excellent music. Unfortunately my wife got food poisoning from the tuna dish she had as main. This has now ruined our last day in new York as she still feels very unwell.

Just ok

By EDx |

We ate at Tao whilst in New York and it was ok, but nothing special. The bar/ waiting area is quite cramped, and we ended up being held in there for quite a while before our table was ready, despite having a reservation. The restaurant was very busy and so the atmosphere was good. The food was ok but again, nothing to write home about and the restaurant in general felt a little dated.

Flashy...and delivers

We had a great evening sitting up at the bar enjoying the best Chinese food (and cocktails) NYC has to offer. Staff were friendly and helpful, the place was buzzing and we had a blast. Its a tad pricey, but we knew that when we went. Would go back!

Fun evening with great food and stellar service!

Food was fantastic, and our server Precious was the best! The kimchee and lobster fried rice were my favorites. She also let us know of the events at the Las Vegas location, and we will likely be heading there in a few months!

Excellent Restaurant Week Choice

By William Lee |

Once we arrived at our table Aseret greeted us and brought a glass of cold water for a hot day. We went for Restaurant Week and we were pleased it was their regular pre fixe with a good variety of options. We both started with the Camelized Shrimp. The combination of flavors was amazing! For our main we had the Hanger Steak and he Vegetable Chow Fun with shrimp. The hanger steak was very good. I loved the Vegetable chow fun. Being from North Carolina we were curious about the banana pudding for desert. We both ordered it and WOW, it was as goog as any I've had! Aseret did a great and the decor was very appealing. We look forward to returning.

Stylish Asian restaurant with Instagrammble interiors

By sunskidundee |

The fortune cookie giant desert thing was amazing. Really special. As it the interior of the restaurant. Fabulous. The food was upstaged by the decor but only just. We had the salmon, sushi, and the pork fried rice thing was dry and too sweet. The edmamame were good and the service was efficient and nice. Tea was good too. Probably the highlight along with the cookie.

Half an hour in a crowded bar waiting while we had a reservation. Very unfortunate. Fortunately, the food and service made up for it somewhat.

I’ve just returned from Tao midtown , and I must say , they are consistent and proficient at best ...Ive eaten at Tao many times , and the food , the service and the Dishes are great ... Super spot on environment for your 1st date , Girlfriend or girls night out ...Chris the manager does a superb job , the food comes out timely , hot and delicious ....Not to mention the delicious signature exotic drinks ...highly Recomended for all, and they have dishes that are Gluten free as well ... I have the gluten allergy and I have never ever gotten ill...highly recommended...Great Instagram opportunity’s as well, lots to see and photograph....

Very cool and great food!

Loved the experience. Young, bustling, energetic place. Love the decor and ambiance Food is amazing. Particularly loved branzino, sea bass and tuna pringles. Have to have the fantastic huge fortune cookie. Service is prompt once you are seated, but they will only seat you once your whole party is there and the wait in the lounge for a table on a busy night maybe long. Overall just very fun and cool place. Definitely recommend for couples, groups of friends for evening.

lack of respect

By Paulo C |

Reservation does not work. I do not recommend. we made a reservation for 9 pm, they charged us for it, and to my surprise, when we arrived at the restaurant we had to face a long wait. A big lack of respect, because at that time we had no more restaurant options.

Delicious Pan Asian

By Floridason |

Simply delicious food. Don't consider this 'just another Chinese restaurant" it is truly Pan Asian with so many choices and flavors. We dined on a Sunday evening but the energy was immense. Our server, Sam, was great. She was very attentive, made awesome food and drink suggestions and kept touching base with the table but didn't hover. She had several large tables as well but we never felt like she was anything other than focused on us. There is not a single thing I would not order again. Fresh is the word, I believe everything was made from scratch when we ordered it. You could certainly have a meal of appetizers and sides but the Wasabi Crusted Filet Mignon was so tender and a treat! Just go here, you will be so glad that you did. And make reservations, they can be BUSY!

Overpriced and overrated.

By NJtravel099 |

Odd experience. Ushered in to a holding area upon arrival, even though we were right on time and the place was empty. If this is there usual process, at least serve a complimentary glass of champagne. Got seated in a booth very soon afterwards. Very good table service. However the food was average at best, and definitely over priced. The only exception was desert - the sweet dim sum basket was something special.

Busy reasturant with a good vibe

By IL06 |

We had reservations here at 8 PM and arrived about 7.55, were asked to order a drink in the bar as the table was not ready. No issues, however, when the table then becomes ready within 5 minutes and we are led to a dining room with a multitude of available tables, it becomes clear that this is probably done for the revenue of an extra drink and to give the venue a greater air of exclusivity. Once seated, service was rather good and the food was nice, however, the price:quality ratio is not quite there. I would return thanks to the ambiance and the drinks but not necessarily for the food alone.

Bad service.

For this amount of money - dont go there. Rude waiter. Gave us the check before we asked. Didnt explain the menu. In general a bad visit.
