We were staying at the Hotel Wales right across the street. This small bistro was terrific. The service was perfect and our meals were some of the best we had in NYC. Fresh, innovative, well presented...loved it!

This small quaint restaurant was an excellent choice for lunch. I had a pasta dish and my husband had a salad. The restaurant is small and intimate and the service was great. We will probably eat ther again before we leave.

We are always on the hunt for 'go-to' places near our apartment and stumbled on Table d'Hote. It’s perfect; very intimate and homey. We feel like we are having dinner (or brunch, which is also excellent) at the home of dear friends. The service is very attentive. Food is well prepared with plenty of variety without being overwhelming. We've enjoyed everything we've ordered. Looking forward to many more wonderful afternoons and evenings.

Love this place! Perfect intimate place to catch up after a busy week. Food is clean and delicious and the wine pours are generous with a nice selection

Food and service fair. 8 tables inside. Disappointed salmon was sold out and not available. Had salad with substituted goat cheese which was very good. Instead of salmon ordered cod. Fair. Husband ordered onion soup which was 90% cheese. Very little soup. Steak special which was of course more than any entree and mediocre. Dinner without dessert was $230.

Small but consitant quality restaurant. The seafood is especially excellent. The waitersa are knowledgeable and very attentive.

We needed a restaurant in this location before attending a concert at the nearby 92nd Street Y, and another nearby spot had canceled our rez because they sold out the entire restaurant. That was a lucky break for us because this was a very cozy small eatery with terrific food. The whole place has about 15 tables and is serviced by one experienced waiter and one bus person. We shared a very nice beet salad. My wife had excellent salmon and I braised short rib on a bed of fabulous root vegetables and celery puree. Dessert was an apple crumble. During our NYC visit we ate at two highly starred Michelin restaurants, and I actually enjoyed the intimate Table d'Hote more. Reservations on our night were essential. Many others were turned away.

Easy to miss - a wonderful little neighborhood French restaurant tucked away on a side street. Great authentic French food and service. Everything is delicious!

I had a dinner with my wife. The restaurant is located at the corner between Madison Avenue and 92nd street, and this is the area where there are several delicious and sophisticated restaurants as well. The restaurant is small where the capacity I guess is 16 guests inside and 8 guests in the terrace area only in the summer time, and a few pretty pictures are on the wall. The atmosphere is like a small local restaurant in the country side in France. We had foie gras and mussel for appetizer and duck breast and rack of lamb for main course. The foie gras was nice and the sauce of mussel was not our preference since it did not match to the mussel well for us. The duck and lamb, both of which had asparagus, were very tasty and in line with our expectation. The server was decent and friendly, which was comfortable for us. The total price for two of us including a bottle of red wine, dessert and tea was almost 200USD (incl. tax, excl. tip). I can return this restaurant again.

Table D'hote would best be described as little jewel-box of a restaurant. It's very small with a charming atmosphere and well-prepared and well-presented food and the service was perfect. Not sure how I missed this one but it will be one to which I definitely return.

With only 9 tables this is a very intimate restaurant. The service is very professional which enhances the feeling of comfort and ease. The menu is extensive without being overbearing. We started with the mussels which were good but not spectacular...I prefer them to be steamed in a more seasoned broth. The entrées we chose, on the other hand, were quite spectacular. The chicken was tender and very flavorful. It was served on a potato puree and spinach. The salmon was incredible. The seasoning was enough to get your attention but didn't mask the natural quality of the filet. It was served with on a bed of broccoli rabe and pureed potatoes. The Blueberry peach torte was tasty and satisfying. This is a fabulous place and we will gladly return!

We enjoyed an anniversary dinner at the Table d' Hote Restaurant on 92nd Street on the Upper East Side. The service was excellent, the food superb. My husband had the short ribs which he reported were excellent. I had the salmon which, we both agreed, was fantastic (crusty on the outside and ordered a little rare on the inside) - perfect! We finished the meal off with Hot Apple Crumble with ice cream - very good. The restaurant lends itself to a romantic evening. We will definitely return next time visiting NYC. Recommend reservations as the restaurant is small.

Love the small, quaint atmosphere of Table D'Hote, and the authentic french cuisine is simply wonderful. Perfect date night dinner. Relatively reasonable for fantastic food in NYC, as well!! This is a hidden gem for sure, and a "do not miss" for any gourmand/ francophile!

This is a terrific little place tucked away from the tourists and transient traffic. Filled with diners from the neighbourhood. We both had appetisers and they were both execllent. Not a lot of space, but ideal for two or four. Freindly service. Terrific wine list. Freindly and intimate.

My wife and I took our daughter-in-law for supper. I had the hanger steak, which was done as ordered and quite tasty. The ladies both had cod and were pleased with the meals. The only thing that kept our visit from 5 stars was the $12 dessert. It was good, but not worth the price in my estimation. It is certainly worth a visit, however.

We came across the restaurant after going for a walk from our hotel across the street. It looked like a nice place to sit, have a glass of wine and people watch as we sat outside at one of the 4 tables. Our waiter Angelo made us feel as if we were regular customers. He offered suggestions and we ended up having the strawberry shortcake which as he said was very good. We then made reservations for dinner that night. I had the the beet salad, lamb chops and my wife had the bass, for desert we shared the bread pudding and the ice cream. The lamb was some of the best I have ever eaten and the bread pudding was light and delightful. A few days later we had reservations at Cafe Boulud. While it was good, it seemed pretentious and no where near the dining experience we had at Table d'Hote. Thus we returned a third time last night, while it was not on the menu we were offered soft shell crab that was crisp and cooked to perfection. My wife had the duck breast which one of the wait staff confessed was his favorite and I had the braised short ribs. Again, it was a great meal and the staff made us feel like we were old friends. We returned near closing for a nightcap and spent almost an hour talking with the chef who came to our table and cheerfully answered some of our questions about the dishes we had been served. This restaurant was truly one of the highlights to our NYC vacation!

French food cooked to perfection. Wait staff were friendly, helpful, and not stressed. Thank you Table D'Hote! You are a little gem, and you have restored my faith in New York City.

I wouldn't go from downtown to the UES just for this place as New York has a lot to offer but as we were in the area, it was perfect. You couldn't fault the food: big portions, tasty, well prepared and the wines are too match too. The place is tiny so it has a lovely atmosphere and the service is naturally attentive.

Small but comfortable, with sidewalk seating on a very quiet street. I felt like we were in Paris! We ordered the Kale Salad, it was delicious! A unique preparation of shredded kale with a very light dressing, it was perfection! My halibut was perfectly prepared and one of the best fish dishes ever. The Duck Confit was also one of the best I've ever tasted. The other dish we tried was the Cod, and it was also perfection. Despite what some others have said, I think this is a very sophisticated restaurant with excellent food. I think you will like it a lot.

Was recommended by a friend who turned out to be right. Friendly service, good menu with daily specials, and a simple but well selected wine list at reasonable prices.

On the way to a museum we happened upon this little French restaurant. We shared a chopped salad with eggs, chicken, beets, goat cheese, tomato and nice light vinaigrette with an outstanding shortcake for dessert.

Best quiche I've ever had: spinach, sausage, cheese on a crust that is divine! Served with salad, all for $12. Mussels when huge (ask) are special. Sauce is divine even if mussels are small. Compared to nearby restaurants Table d'Hote has sophisticated cuisine in a very simple place.

We were outside at a tiny table because inside was fully reserved. The mixed green salad was large and very good as was the beet appetizer - three kinds of beets well-presented with goat cheese and an excellent cause. My cod was also excellent, nice wine at a good price. Just lovely.

We had our wedding ceremony here followed by champagne and a three course meal. They were so good to us. We paid for our twenty guests and drank a lot of wine but there was no charge for them closing this tiny little place for our exclusive use. Passers - by watched the ceremony through the glass and one waited for the whole thing to be over with his very patient dog. The door was opened many times by the smokers in our party who could just slip out onto the pavement to get their fix. We organised the whole thing over the phone and by fax as we live in London. a night to remember as we went to Siberia after the meal. Something of a contrast!

My wife and daughters ages 11 and 9 enjoyed Table d'Hote for lunch after visiting the Cooper Hewitt Museum. A prior reviewer used the word "delightful" and that sums up my impression. This is one of the smallest restaurants I have ever visited. It can't be much more than 500 square feet. The restaurant is one storefront away from Madison Avenue and hidden behind a bodega, so you need to know it's there. It serves good French bistro food and the waiter is extremely friendly. He repeated the specials with great care so we could remember them. My girls both ordered hamburgers and polished them off. My wife got shrimps with a salad and white beans. I enjoyed a salad with bacon, chicken, egg, beets and feta. Each of the items in my salad was partitioned off, so I could eat them separately or mix them up. I'd recommend ordering an appetizer because both daughters and my wife were hungry after their dishes. Despite the size of the restaurant, there was a decent selection of liquor (Lagavulin, Macallan 12, Maker's Mark, etc.) set up on a shelf that made it seem like you're getting a drink at a friend's house. Several customers called in for reservations during our lunch on President's Day Monday. This must be a pretty popular neighborhood place (we live on the west side). If you are in the neighborhood definitely stop by for an enjoyable meal.

This place doesn't seat more than about 25 people and it's definitely intimate but it's so great! The food, the service, the wine list! I had the roast chicken with cauliflower puree and roasted baby carrots. Mmmm... A lovely dessert wine to end our meal. Just a great spot. Highli recommended.

Small, but excellent food and great ambience. Make a reservation, there are only a few tables. A truly wonderful experience!

Was visiting a friend on Upper East Side and stumbled upon this place. It is so small and quaint - you almost feel as if you're in France! Delicious fish and the lamb chops were to die for. Our server was so wonderful - friendly, warm and made us feel like part of the family. Wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Had brunch here for the first time in 5 years and remembered why I don't like this place at all. The menu is limited (perhaps a nod to the small space and presumably even more limited kitchen). The brunch menu is almost a bargain. Heavy on omelette dishes, which are fairly well prepared, but lack taste, ingredients, and presentation. I had the herb omelette which was nothing more than a fluffy omelette filled with parsley and cilantro and it tasted like dish water. The service is slow, and when the bill arrives, the wait staff will tell you they need the table as others are waiting. The staff here are the biggest problem. They aren't friendly and lack service polish. The tiny dining room is charming and has a nice, shabby chic feel, but like most of the other dining establishments in this tony stretch of Carnegie Hill, Table H'Hote has no substance.

This charming quaint French restaurant can be seen from our Hotel Wales Madison Avenue corner suite & it is delightful .. we sat outside & enjoyed our appetizer of bbq octopus with shredded fennel. Our meal choices were both specials of the day: rack of lamb & soft shell crab both garnished with asparagus, fresh peas & wild mushrooms. Angelo & staff served us graciously! Five big stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Can highly recommend!

We squeezed our way into Table d'Hote for dinner one evening and were really glad we had. Great set of menu choices covering all the usual bases. Winter greens salad with oregano dressing was excellent as was the roast chicken. Good fish too. I liked the look of the octopus as it scooted by on the way to another table as well as the tempting beef offerings. I almost reached out to hijack a plate of short ribs destined for another customer. Next time. Good apple crumble dessert - perfect for the chilly evening. This is a friendly local sort of place, the kind of place that you naturally seek out if you are in the neighborhood - or live nearby.

We literally stumbled upon this little gem looking for Sunday Brunch, and lo and behold we can't stop talking about the food, the service, and the ambiance. In fact, we felt like we were back in Paris enjoying our experience so much. Croque Madame was the best I've ever had, with perfect accompaniments. Even the side of bacon was more memorable than I can say. And clean clean clean! So very important. Just wish I was closer by!

this place is small and intimate. you better have a rez. i had the salmon and it was delicious. i woudl go back.

We've been staying at the same hotel on the Upper East Side for years, but only now did I discover Table d'Hôte using Google maps' "search nearby" -- better late than never! This was a cozy and welcoming place to step into on a cold evening in late November. The menu is not extensive, but we found several enticing choices, including two from the evening's specials: a pan-seared crab cake appetizer, and a grilled swordfish entrée on a bed of farro, tomatoes and shiitake mushrooms. Our second entrée, from the menu, was Chatham cod, this served with kale. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was attentive and helpful -- the restaurant's tiny size (fewer than a dozen tables) allows the maître d' to easily survey the goings-on at all tables -- and professional without being stiff or intrusive. The wine list includes many selections available by the glass; including, that night, an excellent Barolo. A pumpkin tart provided a sweet ending to a most enjoyable evening. We're looking forward to returning!

very small restaurant, with a busy lunch business. My husband enjoyed his meal very much. Good wine selection.

Very nice and cozy place. They accommodated our desire to take out food to our room--loved the terrine and foie gras

It's small and intimate and lovely but you will be disappointed if you do not have a reservation. It is that small. Lovely evening shared with friends where we could hear one another, enjoy some great food and wine. Local restaurant with a wonderful staff who will wait on you.

I've eaten here meny times. It's the best restaurant in the neighborhood. Service is excellent. Mains and apps very good. Wine list and desserts could use some tweaking.

Tight and tiny room only seats about 26. The service didn't miss a beat and worked fluidly in the small space. Food is excellent and well worth the squeeze into the corner.

We had a terrific meal last night....alas, the priciest we've had in quite some time. But well worth it. Yes, the place is tiny...but we didn't feel cramped. Service was attentive and almost Gallic. Terrific soupe a l'oignon......was it Julia Child's seminal recipe? Veal chop---terrific. Duck confit---magnifique. L'onglet (aka hanger steak) was amazing tender, something you don't often find in other restaurants when you order this cut of meat. Lovely apple crisp....and the terrific chocolate tart was so different from the usual chocolate desserts you find everywhere else. And let's not forget the wonderful Sancerre. Who needs Paris.......(did I just say that?!)

We came for a Sunday brunch and have asked for the Croque Monsier and for the Benedict eggs. Both were very good in taste and presentation. The side salad and small potatoes with mustard that came with the Croque were exceptionally well seasoned. The hash brown of the Benedict eggs was also very tasty and crispy. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Five star surprise! What a charming place! And the portions and options, zowee! We were looking for a little lunch before going to the Jewish Museum and after some searching ran across Table D'Hote. Entering the door, we were instantly charmed by the interior and were quickly seated and given menus to peruse. I was smitten with the $19.50 prix fixe lunch menu. Thus decided, I ordered the mixed green salad, salmon and cardamom creme brulee. The salad arrived and while it was fresh and crisp, it lacked "sparkle" - by this, I mean that it was simply dressed with a little oil but some lemon or vinegar might have added just the right touch. As it was, I ended up trying to salt it (I rarely find the need to salt my food) and over-salted it to the point that I believe I killed the poor salad. The salmon arrived next, and the portion was quite generous. It was crispy on the outside and firm on the inside, cooked exactly as I'd requested. It was well-seasoned and I enjoyed every bite. The cardamom creme brulee arrived next, and our server was kind enough to include the lemon pound cake with citrus creme anglaise as well (I think he felt bad as the hubs didn't order off the prix fixe and was dessertless). Oh my - both were amazing! I couldn't get enough, and the hubs had to pry me away from the table to as not to miss the museum. Our service was perfect and made the experience over-the-top great. We'll be back!

This lovely little Upper East side spot is minsicule and classic. Wonderful simple Continental fare in a Provençal setting. A little slice of France in NYC

We had a brunch and a dinner at the Table D'Hote with our son and daughter-in-law. The dining area is small and the seating is tight, but the restaurant somehow maintains a sense of intimacy. The service is good, but come to dinner prepared for a long stay--it was nearly an hour from ordering our food to receiving our entrees. For brunch I had a croque Monsieur, which was different from what I was accustomed to receiving in France. It was very thin and cheesy with only one thin slice of ham. My wife and daughter, however, had the salmon, about which they raved. For dinner I had duck confit with white beans. It was alright, but the duck was a bit dry and salty for my taste. Our son had venison, which he thought was good but not great. On the other hand, my wife thought the sea bass special was excellent, and my daughter-in-law loved her scallops. One final word to the wise: Be sure to check your bill--our waiter mistakenly charged us for two bottles of Bordeaux when we had two glasses.

Little place with great atomsphere and excellent food. I tried foie gras and seared beef - both delicious. Pre booking essential

We reserved a table for two based on the recommendation of a New Yorker friend. This is a small restaurant with not more than 10 tables, most of them for two. Service was friendly and at an easy pace. The wine menu was limited, but reasonably priced and we enjoyed a bottle of Chardonnay. There were multiple starter and mains specials. I decided to try the venison, which they indicated was raised on grass in New Zealand. I had never eaten venison before and followed their medium rare recommendation- it was lean, tender and tasty. The setting is intimate and we ended up sharing friendly conversation with the trio at the table next to ours. Overall this is a great restaurant for an evening of great food in a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. (My only slight ding is that we observed the chef chatting with folks on two different occasions. Clearly he knew these people. He didn't introduce himself or speak to anyone at other tables.)

How could I visit New York and not return to this delightful little restaurant? As on previous visits, I was greeted warmly, this time by Carlos the new maitre'd. The menu had not changed drastically, much to my relief as I have my favourites! As the chef takes full advantage of the changing seasons everything is seasonal and delicious. I had a beautifully cooked salmon with a lovely crisp skin which was enhanced by the addition of a celeriac and sweet potato puree. On a second visit, I had to have the tempting crab cakes, incredibly fresh served with a simple cucumber salad. Perhaps next time I shall succumb to something sweet, I did notice some very tempting delicacies on a nearby table!

Pros Food quality decent for the price Diligent service Cons Place is very small and feels cramped Limited menu Wine by the glass expensive for the quality Rest room facility substandard

Stayed around the corner at a boutique hotel and stumbled upon this small 25 seat restaurant. The food and service were very good and the prices were reasonable for a French restaurant in NYC. Highly recommended.

I have been to this small restaurant twice since the new chef-owner took over recently. Both times the food was excellent and the staff attentive. There are only a few tables, so reservations are essential for dinner, but you can probably drop in for lunch - at least until more people "discover" the new chef. This will be our new neighborhood go-to spot.

Been coming to this place periodically over the past 10 years and have had some very good meals, some ok, but always over priced. Still, given the culinary waste land that is the UES, I come back after a year long absence hoping in vain that it might be different. Well, this night was the last. Only two incompetent waiters to handle a full restaurant that with outdoor seating doubles the restaurant’s otherwise small seating capacity. I over hear diners left and right complaining about the terrible service, lots of demands to be comped. We order a white burgundy that the waiter keeps mistakenly referring to as a Bordeaux which doesn’t arrive until after our appetizers are served. Appetizers of terrine of foie gras and the beat salad or ok but way over priced. Cavetelli with sweet sausage and broccoli is good, but at $30 is not worth it. I’ve lived in France and my partner of over 27 years is a French national so I have some idea of what French cuisine should be. Pass this place by and head over to 2nd Avenue for Cafe D’Alsace or further east to Little Frog.

Why bother fighting for a table across the street when you can pretty much drop in any evening and secre a table and a great meal. Menu is varied and food cooked with confidence and consistency. Small and a bit awkward space not meant for big people.

This restaurant was a real find in this neighborhood. It's rather small but a friend and I were able to get a table and had a great dinner. I ordered the salmon and she had the duck confit. Both were excellent, but I wished I had ordered the duck confit! Entrees are about 20+ each and the wine list is small, but there is an adequate selection with some reasonably priced. It's worth stopping in, especially if you're staying in the area.

This charming and tiny restaurant serves some of the most delicious and FRESHEST food. I ordered the crab cake appetizer (not always listed on the menu, so ask) and the short rib entree. First, I have never in my life known how delicious crab should taste and it has saved me from ever accepting less than. Please order this! Second, the Short Rib was so tender and savory it would be hard for me not to order it again, but I really want to try the Hangar Steak after my neighbor at the next table seemed to really enjoy it. For dessert, we shared the creme brulee. Again, perfection. It is truly amazing how Chef Bill Knapp can create such dishes in the teeny tiny kitchen. Don't forget to give him a wave and a thank you on your way to or from the bathroom.

We went for lunch on Veteran's Day after visiting some museums on Museum Mile. Food was very good. Roasted salmon had the crispest skin I have every had, ate like candy. My wife's Fin Herb omelet was creamy like it should be. Only down side was a little grit in the herbs in the omelet. 26 seats is all this place has. The pictures show 90% of the place, just 4 more tables for two in the windows. Only one waiter when we were there so there was some wait for his attention at times. Service otherwise was good.

Just love this little place..always have an amazing meal..perfect in many ways.. I feel like in back in Paris!!

Shared a quick date night dinner with the wife - very cute little place just off Madison with good food, good service. I especially liked the beet salad.

Celebrated a white coat ceremony here but was a little disappointed. Steak was just okay and very pricey. Halibut was dry and over-cooked. Very pricey meal for rather casual place with "okay" food. Owner was nice and approachable, however.

What a wonderful spot! Here for an early dinner - had wonderful service with perfectly prepared meals. Icelandic Cod and Duck Confit were perfect! Squash soup was world class. Small wine list but paired wonderfully with the menu. Couldn't have been happier. Highly recommend!

The menu changes daily with specials based on what is fresh. Place is very small so reservations are recommended. Our table tried different meats and vegatables. Everything was delicious. Wine and drinks available. Service was outstanding.

Friends recommended it and we came. Table d’Hôte was a small restaurant, only a few tables available. We were lucky that reservation was made days ago; otherwise, we would not have a table for seven of us. The dishes we had were Angus Hanger Steak ($34), Chatham Cod ($31), and Trout. All taste great and scrumptious! We enjoyed the dinner AND the small reunion very much.

Really enjoyed my lunch at this walk by location. It looked inviting with a few tables outside occupied for a late lunch. Decided to eat inside starting with a small salad and trying the homemade cavatelli and broccoli. It was delicious. The portions were ample, so much so that I took have the pasta home. Angelo, the maitre'd suggested a nice rose wine that I enjoyed. He was very engaged with the customers and was very pleasant. At the end of the meal I enjoyed a glass of Calvados which is often hard to find. The price was reasonable. Due to small size of space it would be hard to have a large group.

Lovely spot for lunch. The veggie burger and split pea soup were just lovely. Prices very reasonable and also great desserts! This is a charming, quiet spot with excellent friendly service. Was very happy to have discovered this nice place.

Excellent food & service. Quaint little restaurant. We ate lunch. Recommend white bean & kale soup, & any salad.

We happened upon this restaurant on a recent visit to the city. It is very small and so inviting! The menu is wonderful. The wait staff is so attentive and friendly. We had never been there before but felt like we were greeted as old friends. We hope to return many more times. Our dinners were extraordinary. We enjoyed every single bite! Even the dessert was amazing...the shortcake of the strawberry rhubarb shortcake was still warm from the oven...delicious!!

Tables here are very small and, even for NYC, space is tight. The hearty greens salad with a creamy, garlicky vinaigrette was a tasty combo of romaine and red cabbage. The puréed potatoes that came with the free range chicken were heavenly and the chicken very good. My spouse enjoyed his country pate, but thought the cod was lacking. The Brussels sprouts on the side were excellent. Virtually all the tables were taken the entire time we were there. Overall pleasant, but not exceptional.

Went here for a lingering meal. This place has been around since 1978. And William Knapp is the chef and owner. The menu has some very nice dishes but prices are. Fairly hefty. Servicevisxquitecorifessiinal and they appear to have a steady clientele. Used ton their habits. Although I really enjoyed the food I found the restaurant favoring. Their loyal crowd. I felt out of place. And out of My element. I will stick to places further south

I always keep saying... Don't ignore the little restaurants in big cities like New York. This was a great place! Sit out when the weather is lovely. Do try the duck breast with wild mushrooms, rhubarb and a good glass of chauvignon. Simple menu amazing taste! The service is good too.

Fewer choices these days on upper Madison Avenue. Table d'Hote is the best. Been there a long time. Small, crowded. Good service and food. Two of us had the hangar steak, very good. Others did salmon and duck breast. Bread pudding and apple tart were excellent.

This restaurant, although very small, has a following of the "locals" in this neighbourhood! Their octopus (Grilled) is without a doubt, the most tender octopus I've ever eaten. Soft, but firm, and marinated with their special recipe overnight. The grilled salmon was also very good.

I first visited Table d'Hote a couple of years ago, shortly after William Knapp became chef/owner of this delightful discovery. Having been the chef at Craft and Grammercy Tavern his skills were well known and respected and he epitomised the philosophy of seasonal, fresh local produce. Selfishly, I did not review this restaurant earlier as it is tiny, only 20 or so covers and I felt it was 'my find'. Having just flown into New York, I was staying in the neighbourhood and feeling somewhat jet lagged, I wanted a quick, early supper and Table D'Hote was just around the corner. As I was unfashionably early, the charming Maitre'd made me most welcome and was able to find a table for one, even though I did not have a reservation. The food was light and delicious, the delicate crab cakes are a favourite of mine as are the salads and various fish dishes. The chef's insistence on quality makes dining here a pleasure without any fuss. This upper east side, neighbourhood restaurant, has a relaxed atmosphere which is welcoming both to regular patrons as well as first time guests. Unlike many places, when I have eaten here, as a woman dining alone, I have always felt quite relaxed and genuinely welcomed by the professional staff. This is why, at last, I decided to share my secret with Trip Advisor.

Table D'Hote has roughly a dozen tables in a small intimate room off Madison Avenue. You're not going to find any fusion dishes floating in foam here. You will find remarkably accomplished old-school renderings of classic French and Continental dishes. The service is more personal than professional adding to an overall low-key environment that's pleasing and welcoming. My only small quibble is that Table D'Hote is a bit expensive. If the entrees were four or five dollars cheaper, it would be the perfect dinner spot.

Always lovely to visit, terrific steaks, sides, service, low decibels. A place to enjoy friends and good food.

This lovely little gem is around the corner from my regular hotel when visiting NY (the Hotel Wales, great place), and I stumbled upon it this last trip. It's tiny, maybe 8 tables, in a little storefront. They accommodated me at the last minute on a busy night, graciously and with no attitude. The sevice was warm, knowledgeable, and professional; the food was exceptional (and I'm a private chef, so I can be critical); and the room is comfortable and casual and attractive. This is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant should be.

My daughter lives about 4 blocks from this tiny little bistro and found it while out jogging. Her mother-in-law was in town so she asked us to come into the city and join them for dinner. So, the five of us walked over and I am quite glad they did. This is a very small place. If I said they seat 25 I might be stretching the point a bit. However, the small size does not detract in any way. If anything, it enhanced the experience. The kitchen is able to devote the time and care to preparing every dish the way they should be prepared. The wait staff is able to be attentive and efficient without being intrusive. We started with the crab cake, a beet salad, and the kale salad. My least favorite was the kale salad, but, I would certainly order it - but not over the crab cake. We had 3 orders of Beef Bourguignon; the pan roasted striped bass; and the swordfish special. The swordfish was light and delicious. The beef was hearty, flavorful, and filling. The report on the bass was good (I didn't taste it so I had to rely on the overall impression it left). It was all washed down with a bottle of tempranillo - a Spanish red. Freshly back from a vacation in Paris, my daughter insisted on the Cardamom Creme Brulee. We also ordered this warm chocolate dessert concoction. To me, Creme Brulee is not worth the calories so I won't comment on it but it just might be worthwhile to go back there, order lots and lots of espresso and a couple of dozen of the chocolate desserts. And then not eat for a month. It would be well worth it!! Anyway, the evening ran about $65 per person plus tax & tip. Good food, properly served in a very pleasant environment and no feeling about having to rush out because the need the table for the next guest - what more can you ask? Don't bring the kiddies - there's nothing there for them to eat and they might get restless and spoil it for the rest of the patrons. But for me, that's OK as mine are adults and I'd come here with them any time.

It's a small restaurant with a ton of atmosphere. Be prepared to share your space...but this adds to the atmosphere. A good menu with enough variety to satisfy anyone's taste. Service was friendly and quick. Good for couples.

This tiny place just off 92nd and Madison can be hard to book, but we had no problems getting a table for 3 around 8:30 on Mother's Day. The service was good, but we were clearly the last customers of a long, busy day. Appetizers of foie gras and baby octopus were both excellent. They were out of cod, but the replacement fish with wild mushrooms and asparagus was great. The short ribs and pasta with wild mushrooms were also quite good. The wine list had a nice selection and was not exorbitantly priced. The next time I meet friends for dinner in the area, I'll be back!

Close to the 92nd Street Y - this tiny French restaurant is a find. The service was excellent, the food was a delight and it feels like you are eating in France. It's a bit pricey - but when in New York.....

This is an undiscovered little gem near a couple of upper east side hotels. I discovered it by accident, as it is on a secluded side street. It is very small with only about six tables. I suggested it to some out of town guests. I told them I had never been there before and so we were taking our chances. The three of us loved it. The food and service was second to none. The food did not have that institutional restaurant taste that most of the high-end famous places have. Don't miss it.

My NY cousins live nearby & brought me to this perfect restaurant. Bill Knapp, the owner & chef, took over in 2011. The cuisine is French-accented but eclectic. Everything is fresh, clean, quickly served. It's a tiny space, only 20 covers & it gets packed for lunch, so booking is essential. The tables are close together, there is one round table. The chopped salad is wonderful; the coffee ice cream the best I've ever tasted, the tarte tatin mouth-watering. This is a place for foodies; you couldn't fail to be delighted by the changing menus, see on the website: http://www.tabledhote.info/menus.html I had monkfish, very good portion size & completely delicious. I will definitely return & strongly urge you to rush here-just off Madison Ave. It is NOT expensive.

The charm of this petite restaurant is equaled by the quality and presentation of its food. We had the evening’s specials, crab cakes and halibut. Each prepared exquisitely. The wine list is small, but well chosen so you will have an excellent compliment to your meal. The service was attentive and friendly. The interior design is traditional country French - very welcoming and very comfortable.

My wife and I dine at Table D'Hote at least 1 to 2 times a week. Generally on the weekend for dinner or brunch. While the food is phenomenal, the service is very average. So just be prepared. Overall, a great neighborhood, casual restaurant.

Dined with my wife and adult son. Lovely attentive service. Small, very french. All good - crab cakes, lamb shank, sea bass, duck. Amazing chocolate dessert and some sort of lemon custard dessert that was wonderful. Pricey but worth it. French rudeness is a myth.

Recently tried this intimate restaurant without any prior recommendation and really enjoyed it. The room is quite small and intimate, and the menu is therefore relatively simple, but with excellent choices. I still had a hard time choosing from such a small list as so many dishes sounded wonderful. The waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable and let me sample different wines to make the best pairing even though I was ordering by the glass. I had an appetizer special-- bay scallops with fresh truffles, trumpet mushrooms and small bits of roasted celeriac-- which was memorable. The lamb shank with homemade spaetzle and roasted sunchokes was also excellent, though the spaetzle a little heavy on the mustard taste for my ideal liking. Still the overall dish was delicious-- tender and flavorful, without a lot of the fat sometimes accompanying shank preparations. The roasted sunchokes instead of more common new potatoes provided a great complement to the other flavors.I will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant.

Definitely a neighborhood local, that you would be unlikely to find by chance. But when you get there the menu is fairly brief but interesting, Foie Gras, short ribs cooked to perfection,FRESH fish! Drawbacks, it is pretty cramped so a good humour is required, and the service can appear on the slow side but that is primarily because everything is cooked to order. Definitely worth the effort.

Ate at Table d'Hote on Friday night with another couple. Tiny place full of charm. Chef-owned and service was great...even the call-back from a voicemail I left requesting a reservation was personal and welcoming. Atmosphere and food were wonderful and relaxed. Not uptight or too trendy...just perfect. Delicious salmon w/crispy skin on bed of English/Spring pea puree w/pea shoots/peas scattered about. Homemade pasta was delicious too. Creme brulee yummy. Mostly, a lovely evening. Felt like having dinner in a small restaurant on a side street in Paris in the 6th arrondissement. We don't eat uptown all that much, but would return here and will recommend it to friends.

What a wonderful French chef. We loved every bite here. Even just a crab and lobster sandwich here are really unique. The spinach and feta omelet was ordinary. Perfect service as well.

It's a cozy and friendly neighborhood restaurant. Wine selection was good. The roast beet salad was good but the main entrees were disappointing. They were good but not refined.

Tables here are very small and, even for NYC, space is tight. The little gem romaine salad with a creamy, garlicky oregano vinaigrette was very good. The puréed potatoes that came with the free range chicken were heavenly and the chicken very good with some tasty carrots. Perfectly done comfort food. My spouse enjoyed his country pate and also the cod with Brussels sprouts on the side. Virtually all the tables were taken the entire time we were there. The is a very popular place so be sure to reserve. We liked it so much we had both lunch and dinner here on the same day!

This has become my favourite place to dine when I am back in New York as the welcome is genuine, and food consistently delicious. Table d'Hote remains true to its original belief of providing the best seasonal, local produce, cooked to order. The menu is well designed and brief, supplemented by a few daily specials featuring what is new from the daily market. A reservation is essential as this tiny jewel is always busy, fortunately I have always been successful in securing a table, I hope this never changes.

This tiny restaurant has fewer than a dozen tables, so be sure to reserve well in advance. The menu is strictly French but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. A gem! (Hiint: Probably not a good choice for small children.)

This may be even better than Paris--no airfare, just a walk, subway or cab ride from wherever you are in the city. I love this place! It's tiny--maybe 10 tables or less, and like eating in someone's dining room. Except that their dining room is somewhere in France. Charmingly decorated, it has the MOST delicious food. A friend and I had their cold broccoli soup the other day (a really hot day in July) and I can still see and taste that bright clear color and creamy deliciousness (is that a word?). I've eaten here for years, and am remiss in not writing this review sooner. The desserts are fabulous, and all main courses are wonderful. I have never left without sighing with pleasure. We are eating lunch there again in a few weeks and I can't wait. Truly divine.
You could be in Paris
Intimate French restaurant, we were there on a raining Monday and had a perfect lunch. Best quiche I have ever had, bar none, accompanied by a plain green salad that was masterfully dressed (not sure how the French can take plain lettuce, a little bit of olive oil, lemon and vinegar and turn it into s sublime salad). Very friendly waiter and service was great (it was also late for lunch so there were only 2 tables occupied) - it really was almost a perfect dining experience, all things considered.
