Great place for drinks and a bite...

By whatme33 |

Stopped in for something to eat and a few drinks. Bar was hopping and we were seated near the back. Service was excellent and the drinks were amazing! We had the deviled eggs, buffalo spring rolls and the chicken satay! Everything was wonderful! Definitely a cool place and we will be back!

Vibrant atmosphere, great bourbons and small plates

By Visit-upstate-NY |

Dinner (solo) at the bar was really fun, the barkeep knew his bourbon and how to whip up a mean Old Fashioned. The place was hopping on my Monday evening visit, but food arrived at the bar at just the right time. The vegetable dumplings and citrus hummus with pita were both delicious.

Fun, friendly spot in the heart of Midtown

By Mark R |

I fun unpretentious restaurant and bar in the heart of Midtown. I went there on a Saturday night where I had a bite to eat, then stayed for the dj playing dance tunes up near the front. Whereas there was a line to get into PH.D at the Dream Hotel next door, this place was a fun alternative without the hassle of the velvet rope and wait. Through no fault of the restaurant, someone picked up my Samsung 9+ phone off of a communal table when I went to the restroom. It wasn't there when I got back, but management was very helpful to me as I tried to recover it the following day. All in all, I would definitely recommend Tanner Smith for food, drinks and a good time in Midtown. There was no cover charge! The management and staff are very caring and helpful.

Went for "tea"

By Denise T |

Atmosphere, tea and food excellent. Tea is alcoholic and cold but served in a tea pot with china cups!

Really Enjoyed Our Brunch Here!

By LazloNashville |

I like this place. We had Sunday brunch there today and the four of us were well pleased. Our dishes were tasty and the service was spot on. The live jazz group is a nice touch too!

One of the best, unique & reasonably priced

By JulieNewJersey |

Totally stumbled on Tanner Smith's by accident. One of the BEST places ever. From the outside you see big bright letters "B A R". Never in a million years did I ever envision that we had found a best kept secret. You could hear a saxophone playing inside which was captivating & upon entering realized it was a prohibition feel to it. The four of us ended up eating at the back bar which seats (4) & we had amazing drinks & meals. To start we ordered drinks; Wild Westside (awesome), Lucky Luis (awesome), New Kid on 55th (awesome), Unruly Behavior (awesome) & Drop Kick Mule (awesome). Drinks were spot on & the glasses that they are served in are fun. They have the glass on the menu. Brunch another home run! The Avocado Smash was amazing which I had & my son's boyfriend also enjoyed. My son enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Benedict & my daughter with the Jalapeno Mac & Cheese (not too spicy). They offered hot sauce if you wanted to "kick it up a notch". Service was excellent. We were not rushed like sometimes you feel like in NYC. Our server/bar tender was GREAT! I cannot wait to go back here again. This is one of the best places I've been so far in NYC. It was that classy jazzy prohibition gem!

Great late afternoon drink and bite

Active pub, very attentive staff - polite friendly and efficient. Interesting small plates , and appetizers. Enjoyed chicken spring rolls and parm fries with our beverages .

Great Vibe Awesome Server

By Brian BF |

Food was great! We asked our server Danny for recommendations and they were spot on. We had the spicy chicken sandwich and chicken and waffles both were awesome. Bees knees cocktail was great as well.

By happywonderer17 |

found this place on Google before our trip, great atmosphere, great styled bar, the selection of food and drinks is excellent and kept us coming back a number of times throughout our trip, and the staff are friendly too

Good for before theatre

By Lorne B |

We went for a quick dinner before a play. It was warm and comfortable with dark lighting. Service was efficient. I had a burger which was good and my wife had a flatbread with truffle oil which was great.

A speedy dinner

By Jacqui S |

We were flagging slightly after a long flight into NYC and came upon Tanner Smiths as a place to eat. We were greeted warmly and welcomed the efficient air con! We had a table away from the crowds and ordered burgers, chicken tenders and tacos. All were delicious. Service was attentive and we appreciated our quick drop in.

Pleasantly Surprised!

By Sarah G |

Great experience! We popped in here on a whim so I didn't know what to expect - the food was GREAT! Well, my salad was delicious but my husband's truffle mac and cheese was better... so I may have stolen some of it. The drinks were great too, and the service was top-notch. It got a little busy while we were there and you could see all the servers start helping each other out to ensure great service but also lend a hand to their coworkers. Love to see it. I'd definitely come back here!

The best Halloween cocktails!

By 180178 |

I visited tanner smith’s yesterday for drinks. The Halloween decorations were so cool and the drinks were flowing! We had the Frankenstein mule, which was greats our server Claire was most helpful and provided great service and a fun atmosphere. We will be back!

Visited the bar

We stopped in for drinks. Cool vibe and atmosphere. Craft drinks if you like or standards. The bar staff was great. We will return when in the area.

Hot chicken sandwich

By krissullivan |

Great ambiance and fabulous beer selection. I wish I enjoyed the food more. The hot chicken sandwich was far from hot and nearly flavorless. The dry rub wings were better.

Tipsy Tea Fun

By Tgator |

My husband and I hit this place up for their Tipsy Tea special and it was amazing! We had the buffalo chicken spring roll as the appetizer to accompany our tea and it was delicious! Excellent customer service from the bartender!

Wonderful Sunday Brunch, Great Ambience!

By Karen O |

We had brunch at Tanner Smith's before seeing a show at NY City Center. The atmosphere is lively but not too loud, just a lovely buzz.....there was a jazz combo right in the bar area. We sat in the back of the restaurant and had a delightful brunch. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant though she was busy. The food was delicious! We have already recommended the place to people and will definitely go back....

Great bar but limited gluten free

By Pembrae |

Great bar with atmosphere and friendly service. We chose to eat here because the menu showed several gluten free options. However, when we tried to order, we found the items were gluten free, but were fried in mixed oil. This is not helpful for gluten intolerant dining. We had the tacos, which were delicious and gluten free. Great bar and would recommend for people not requiring gluten free intolerant options.

Great place for a corporate event

By StephenCross |

Tanner Smiths is a great place to host a small corporate event. Great food platters and the service was exceptional. Good vibe in the place.

Local away from home

By jennedinb |

We were in NYC for a week to celebrate our mother's 60th birthday and we visited Tanners pretty much every day, ranging from a couple of us hanging out at the bar to many of us for drinks/food. Service at the bar was friendly and humorous, cocktails were great and food at the high tops also good. I have coeliac disease and ate here several times with no issues - I was even told about a shared fryer without having to ask and explain (this hardly ever happens anywhere). Jazz brunch on Saturday 14th was a great way to round off our celebrations, and our group of 15 was accommodated perfectly.

Not Feeling It

By dallen64 |

Went to Tanner Smith’s last night before a concert at Carnegie Hall. It was in a very convenient location for that venue. Got there around 5 and there was already a crowded bar scene; everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were seated for dinner by a very nice host, but that was probably the high point of our dinner. Our waitress was fine but offered little by way of information about the food. The appetizer of wings was brought quickly. They didn’t have much flavor but were cooked nicely. Our main dishes were brought out before we were even half done with the appetizer (and we weren’t eating slowly). One of us had the fairly tasteless chicken mole tacos; the best part was the spicy salsa and the chipotle mayo. The other had an average burger. Prices were fair. Wish it had been more tasty though.

Delish!

By Ali Vanderstar |

Our waitress Ashling was lovely, and the food was yummy. My husband enjoyed his beer — they have a great selection. Thank you for a great brunch!

Fun evening - drinks and apps

By EBinDC |

What I appreciated about Tanner and Smith’s is there was room to spread out, have a conversation where we could hear eachother and they heard it was my friend’s birthday and brought her a free dessert! We were there on a Friday night and while the early crowd was out in force - it didn’t feel crowded.

Brilliant Bubbly Bartender

By Anna D |

Stopped in for food and a few drinks on my second day in the city. Our bartender Claire gave fantastic recommendations on her top 3 broadway shows and favourite sights to visit. Very impressed by her cocktail knowledge and the shrimp tacos were to die for!!. Will be back on our next venture to NYC.

Authentic

By Dan H |

Drift into the day of the speak easy. Order an "Old Fashioned" and talk with the well appointed server. There is a trilogy of establishments and each must be visited and experienced to obtain the NYC feel.

Middle of Road

By Bette J |

We had to be in Greenwich Village at 6:30pm and my daughter was in town for a few days on the Upper East Side so we found this right in the middle for us to meet. The staff was very nice and sat us in the bar area for us to have a quick drink and something to eat. We ordered the assorted olives which was great, Classic Margarita Flatbread, also very good. My daughter had a bowl of soup which was lacking in flavor but other than that we had a nice time. Very nice crowd of happy people!!!

Excellent Night Out!

By Patricia S |

We made arrangements in advance for 14 people. Katie was very attentive to our request and confirmed everything in advance. The hostess escorted us to the table. Jen, our waitress couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. We had several appetizers- each was delicious and presented beautifully. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, from burgers, salads, mac & cheese pulled pork-- everyone was more than satisfied!! Will be returning soon!!!

Amazing!

By green678o |

Me and my husband visited last week. Clare was our bartender and recommend the Paddy wagon for me as I love a tequila drink and the Winona for him (which was amazing)! We had some apps too which were both lovely. Clare was so friendly and we had some great conversations with her. Will definitely recommend this place to any of our other friends visiting New York, and will tell them to ask for Clare 😊

Speak-easy Bar

By v9m7i |

Speak-easy themed bar/restaurant. We found out that kids are not allowed after 4pm, but they let us into the back of the restaurant with our 2 kids. Place had a very lively energy with a great crowd. The cocktail menu was expansive, but not overwhelming. I was introduced to their signature drink, The Winona: bourbon with maple extract and oak smoke infusion. Seems like a gimmick, but it tasted really good. Not too overpowering, hint of sweetness with a mellow smokey flavor. The food was mediocre, but we only had appetizers. The garlic parsley fries were good, dry rub wings were over-fried and dried out, 3 peppers nachos were not good. It had good flavor chips, but lacking in flavor for everything else. Thr eggplant chips are a good concept, but it was too mushy. I would come back for the drinks and atmosphere.

Drinks after Dinner

By JohnP122 |

Following dinner at a nearby restaurant we wanted to experience a NY bar and have a couple of night caps. The atmospher was great and the bar had a great buzz. Not sure eating there would be my cup of tea but then I'm the wrong side of 45 by some way.. Bar tender was really attentive and it was a great finish to a good night. I would recommend the location as a bar but not a restaurant

Friday lunch

By John Macken |

Devilled eggs - small portion. Duck sambo - flavourful and great sauces. Friendly service with attention to detail despite busy lunch rush - good wine service. Shout out to Anna!

Nice bar

By NeilW61 |

Great bar with brilliant atmosphere and food to match. 6 of us went last evening with no reservation. They managed to sort us a table with minimal fuss. Staff excellent lots of good food and a great range of beers. If it’s a typical New York bar your looking for it will not disappoint

Great Atmosphere and Service!

By 22Natty05 |

Great atmosphere in this bar, very wide variety of whiskey on sale and food available to order which we did not have time to try. Innovative and interesting variety of cocktails - its a cool place and a shame they don't sell T-Shirts because we'd have bought them! Conveniently near to 57th Subway.

Beers, Cocktails, Finger Food and Fun at the Bar

By bbbob84 |

We were on our way to Carnegie Hall and this establishment was very close. Being the Holidays and a Friday Night they were very busy, but the atmosphere was great. Well staffed bar with three or four bartenders and barmaids. Great selection of beers on tap, as well as, some house special artisanal cocktails. We enjoyed the duck confit egg rolls and some dry rub wings with our drinks. Everyone was in the holiday spirit. Staff were very attentive and accommodating. Great location. Definitely will be back.

Surprisingly great brunch

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

Chose this place off the sidewalk as it was near our matinee theater. What a lucky find for brunch!! We ate outside which was lovely. The share cocktails in a teapot (we got the gin one) were delicious and super fun and more price effective than single ones. The chicken and waffles were extraordinary (and I usually fine them boring) and are the must try here! The nicoise salad had excellent seared tuna but the rest was just good. All was fairly priced and the service was excellent.

3 1/2 dots = good

By L H |

Staff are very nice, but inside is way too noisy, Outside is actually kind of cramped, with rickety tables. They pull off a good Reuben, deviled eggs are tasty, but a bit hard to chew atop extremely dry/hard toast squares.

Fantastic cocktails and great staff!

By MarieP2005 |

Dropped in unexpectedly and discovered a fantastic spot for amazing drinks, lovely food nibbles and wonderful bartenders. We sat at the bar upstairs and I ordered on the menu for the first-simply great!, but I asked Tiarnán to make something off the menu with gin Andy next two drinks were amazing! Will definitely be back before we leave town!

Can't go wrong!

By Taxito4 |

My daughter and I had dinner here and didn't want to leave, so we moved to the bar to listen to the live music! I found them here on TA - not over-priced and interesting menu, so we gave it a try. There were so many unique dishes, we decided to get a couple and share. Food was great, server was very friendly, love the dining room atmosphere. Bar area was equally as inviting, bartenders were fun to chat with, got a kick out of the slogan, "You can't be Half a Gangster." My 20-something daughter wants to come back with friends. Tanner Smith's was a great find!!

Worth a visit

By Christine C |

Popped in as looked lovely from the outside, and it was! Food delicious, drinks a little pricey but ambience and service made up for it.

Great dining experience thanks to our server “The Daniel 2.0”

By Karen B |

A friend was visiting me from London and wanted to go somewhere with good food and a great atmosphere, Tanner Smith’s did not disappoint. We were greeted by a friendly staff member that seated us. Our first server was lovely but was at the end of her shift. We were then introduced to “The Daniel” 2.0. Not only was he friendly and professional, he was also very entertaining. He was able to make my friend feel right at home in the Big Apple as he also lived in London and was familiar with many U.K. places and sites. We had the best time. I will definitely be back and so will my friend on her next visit to the U.S. so we can discuss the DIVA’S oK podcast. Thank you for a lovely dining experience “The Daniel 2.0”

Brunch and more

By Regina C |

Found this little gem on my last day in NYC. It was a cloudy, cold, rainy day. I needed a drink, food and out of the cold. Bartenders were excellent - good drinks, delicious food (shrimp and grits) and live music. Just really comfortable atmosphere...no loud TV's to compete with. I wish we had one of these in my town.

Mixed Bag

By selvaticofiore |

This was a mixed experience. The first round of cocktails and the burger were decent (not amazing, but average. The second round of cocktails were horrible to the point my companion couldn't even drink his, and I regretted drinking mine -- We weren't sure if we were being subtly pushed out the door for not ordering enough food or not, but for the price of the drinks we were pretty disappointed. To be fair, they did not charge us for the undrinkable cocktail!

Good Place for Drinks and Light Snacks Before a Show

By Rita S |

We were looking for some where to have a drink and a light meal before going to Carnegie Hall. Tanner Smith's is a short walk. Upstairs has loud music and gets quite crowded later in the evening. However, downstairs is more quiet and you can have a conversation. The cocktail menu has a variety of choices and they also have different wines and beers. There is a great selection of appetizers and we shared four different ones. The portions were fine.

Great Place, Wonderful Service

By DivaRegina |

This has been my favorite spot this trip to NYC. The food was delicious, we had the poutine with the fried egg and the Brussel Sprout hash. Fantastic food, great atmosphere. The best part of our meal was the service. From the minute we were sat by the hosts until we left, our every whim was well taken care of. If you are lucky enough to get Ana as your server you will have a great time and stellar service! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Friendly staff, good food, clever cocktails

By TimMAroundTheWorld |

I enjoyed Tanner Smith's. The environment is nice, the staff were friendly and accomodating, the food was good, and craft cocktails are available. They have a good select of different liquors that normal bars do not have. A popular place with an energetic vibe. Conveniently located next to Dream Midtown.

Trendy Bar

By janee882 |

Go in and have a cocktail Great atmosphere and buzzing at all times of the day The decor is hip and there is a good mix of age groups

Great atmosphere but didn't like the food

By 14Roger |

Very cool vibe but bar is much darker than I'd prefer. Restaurant side is nice. Was decorated nicely for halloween. Draft beer selection is good. Interesting cocktails but none that were really good from what we tried. We like to drink old fashioned and the drink called Winona was recommended. Presentation was cool as the glass was delivered alongside another sealed bottle with smoke inside it. You pour it in your glass after waiting a min or two. Taste was just ok. At $15US it was not worth it. Where this place really fell down is the food. We were a large group and tried everything from the mezze, olives, wings, duck spring rolls, mac n cheese, chicken satay, cauliflower, etc. Nothing got finished because it wasn't worth doing so. Like the vibe but not the food so for beer this place is fine.

Hot and thirsty.

By Howard J |

Staying at the Manhatten at Times Square, we walked around the corner to find Tanner Smiths. Order a beer and wine and settled to watch the younger folk enjoy life.Hunger arrived so we ordered, and the food was great.

Great Cocktails

By Smithie83 |

A very lively place that allows you to sink back and relax while you have a great and inventive cocktail and casual fare. It's billed as a speakeasy but the decor and atmosphere aren't indicative of the 20's. Great service and go for the cocktails.

What a guy!

By JJWhite01 |

Came to the bar for early drinks for my friends stag party before attending the Yankees game. When the group chatted to the live singer, the staff knew the occasion of our visit. Pretty quickly we were provided free drinks on the house from owner Andrew which was very generous as we celebrated until the Yankees game. Thereafter, I left my jacket in the bar before attending the Yankees game and the jacket was secured and kept safe for me on my return. Andrew wouldn’t accept money as gratitude nor would he accept my invite to buy him a drink. A Very generous and kind person. Great bar, very good live music and extremely friendly staff. Would highly recommend visiting if your near Central Park! Cheers Andrew, we will be back!

Very good burgers and beer 🍺

By Bulend I |

We went there while looking for a quick place to eat before concert, service is fast, waiters are friendly, burgers are tasty , beer selection is good enough I would go again while in the city

Great late evening stop for a bite to eat.

By HDWall |

Excellent food and great live music. Sit in the back of the house if you want to hear conversation. Best bean and kale soup ever. Loved the duck rolls with black cherry sauce.

Live Jazz Brunch

By Nick P |

This is a fun little find. We went Sunday for lunch, which turned into their Brunch menu. the menu was limited compared to what we'd found online. We sat in the back and could hear the music, but couldn't see it. A pancake was $16, my burger was $18 and $5 for fries. I'd call it a bit pricy. The kitchen staff was prompt, but our service probably fell into the less than attentive/poor category. The pancake my son ordered was probably one of the best I've ever had. The fry portion was small, the beers were $11. I didn't expect to drop $200 for lunch, but that's what happened. It was a very cute place though.

Awesome for brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks!

By stingley23 |

This is a really cool prohibition-style, speakeasy-ish place that just has a great vibe, great eats and delish cocktails. Every time we visit NYC, we come here several times - pre-theatre, post theatre, brunch or great bites for dinner. It's all super. Some of our faves include the Grilled Cheese Sando w/ Bacon & Tomato, Jalepeno Mac & Cheese (Hmm, seeing a trend here), Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls, & Beef Skillet Nachos. Go to cocktails are the Tread Lightly (Bombay East Gin, Liquor 43, red pepper & ginger) and the Dropkick Mule (vodka, lime, ginger beer & balsamic). Everyone is nice and we especially like Morgan & Vanessa behind the bar. And there's a realy good jazz group playing on weekend days.

Great brunch!

By Það eru margar undur í höfuðkúpu |

We had a great Saturday morning brunch in this place. We were seated in the back, which was quite quiet compared to the front. Try the duck confit, absolutely delicious!

Great vibe

By Tjgat |

Cool Live Irish music, great Irish coffee, and Peter behind the bar was a pleasure to chat with...very cool

Good place

By YourMomLovesToast |

Was 2 blocks away and trusty trip advisor didn’t steer us wrong! Decent beers on tap. Food was good. Spicy chicken sandwich with fries hit the spot!

Too Cool Bar

By lizbrowning |

Cool cocktails. High prices. Loud music. Good late night gathering spot. Bring your friends and sit in the little couches.

Good brunch!

By andreadecillia |

This place provides a nice refuge is offering something special and tasty in a very touristic area of New York. In a speakeasy atmosphere they are proposing on Saturdays and Sundays a Jazz Brunch with live music. Brunch menu is short but offers so many great options at a very reasonable price. I had the avocado toast (over a Texas toast bread) with poached eggs and we shared their pancake (one portion for 3 is enough). Food was good, i really liked the small spiciness of the sauce that came with the toast and the fact that the pancake was well balance in terms of sugar. Service wise, food was well-paced and our server was always nice and attentive. No complaints. Though nothing too extraordinary but everything was well executed and enjoyable! Overall the breakfast was good with good food in a wonderful atmosphere!

Great food, family friendly, excellent service

By Mystiqz |

Came here without a reservation for lunch at noon on a weekend and we were able to get a table for 4 adults + 2 kids. The majority of their seating is in the back of the restaurant. They pulled 3 tables together and all of us were very comfortable. They only had one high chair at the time but they were going to ask their sister restaurant for one, they kept us updated about the status of the high chair but after about 30-45 min, they told us they weren't able to get one. Which was fine. I am glad that they tried and kept us updated about it. The AC worked well and we were very comfortable in the restaurant. They also had live music/performance out in the front. I had the skillet baked pancakes which I thought was excellent. I ate it without the whipped butter and still thought it was excellent. The edges were crispy. The marmalade + maple syrup + dusted sugar wasn't too sweet or overpowering. The texture was soft. The service was excellent. I found the place to be quite baby friendly. I would definitely come here again. You can come here with a group of 10 and it would be okay but come early so you won't have to wait in line.

Our go-to place in mid town for brunch, lunch & late night cocktails!

By stingley23 |

My wife and I have been coming here for years, and after a long, covid-related delay since our last visit came back and of course still love Tanner's. Faves? Buffalo chicken spring rolls, THE BEST BLT!, mac & cheese and just about anything else. The folks here are also the coolest, and we just met Monica our server (and manager) who was soo nice, fun, friendly & attentive. LOVE THIS PLACE!!

Wonderful Burger!

By Clare46408 |

Tanner Smith’s is rather noisy for us (we are seniors) but has a high energy vibe for younger diners. Our waiter Josh was attentive and no complaints. I had the Smokey Cheese Burger and it was spectacular - truly one of my favorite ever burgers. I had the single patty, which was more than enough. I got a side salad (a good sized bowl) and my husband the hand cut fries (a rather smallish portion) and we shared the two items. They have a large assortment of beers and cocktails but no TVs so not a place to watch a Yankee game! It was around $80 for the two of us with one beer each.

Best fun for brunch

By Bergeneddi |

Excellent food(not just pub grub), fine selection of spirit, terrific service(thanks Josh--GREAT waiter), and really entertaining quartet featuring Tara O'Grady(if you like folk bands, buy the CD) add up to an unexpected fun brunch. Recommend the duck hash skillet washed down with LaChouffe brew.

Perfect place for a night cap

By Kc777 |

We tried to do dinner here- granted we showed up without a reservation at 7 PM- our bad. We didn’t want to wait an hour so we went elsewhere and came back to the downstairs for a night cap after dinner and had the BEST experience. We tried the ‘Hudson Hustler’ (I think) and another mezcal cocktail that had basil and strawberry- can’t remember the name- it was the bomb. The rim seasoning was phenomenal. Love the environment, staff was cool, best hang.

A gem for sure!

By JoshuaBrock |

Stopped here for brunch at the end of a stellar weekend in NY. Vegetarian options were great, incredible atmosphere, wait staff and owners all very attentive. This is a wonderful place you should support when you’re in NYC!

Fantastic bar and staff

By Brian Rowntree |

Fantastic bar and atmosphere. Discovered the bar last year while stopping in the westhouse hotel whilst on holiday from England, and loved it. Came back this year and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic friendly staff, especially the young lady on the door called Shae. She made us feel extremely welcome and gave us great advice about staying in New York. What a great asset to the company she is. Hopefully we'll be back next year. Can't reccomend the place enough.

Great bar

By Cgh |

Great place for a few drinks in NYC. Our bar tender Claire was great. Fast service with a smile. :) definitely will be back again

Cocktails

By Gervase P |

Spent a lovely few hours in this wonderful bar recently. Our bartender was an Irish girl called Clare and she really made the visit special. Nothing was too much trouble for her she made myself and my wife several beautiful cocktails and kept us in craic all evening. Hope you’re served by Clare if you visit. I highly recommend Tanners.

Crowded but nice hangout

By Vegan World traveller |

We had reservations for the basement floor for ourselves which was small group. Food was good and drinks menu was awesome As well. Bit muted light and dated settings with barrels et al. Music was on as well. It was indeed crowded and noisy on the main floor. Good service overall.

Loud, but dont be put off

By Paul K |

We visited early on a steamy August Friday evening. The street level bar was very loud and we were invited to share a table downstairs. Service was fast and efficient, food very good at the price point, though $15 for a glass of Pinot Noir seemed steep. Would definitely return.

great

By Getaway360178 |

good food, interesting menu, nice ambience, great service - nice lunch before a show - not too pricey

Cool Bar!

By Christine C |

We sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice and recommeded some drinks for us. They have very good descriptions and they'll help you pick! Staff was very friendly and drinks were good.

Good Food & Drinks

By espressoself |

My husband & I ate here for lunch. We had a few drinks & shared appetizers & lunch. The drink menu is really cool & inventive! They were really good too! The food was also creative & very good. I would go back here in a minute no problem.

Disappointing

By Craig H |

Based on reviews had expected better. Service was below average: Order mixed up, had to request a fix twice. Small glass of whiskey at $18 was not of value. Dark and dreary climate. Seating bench in tear uncomfortable and too low for the table.

Great lively bar - amazing service

By StephenCross |

We had a staff function down the back of the bar. Flatbread and burgers Great. The service was really amazing and no idea how the chap serving us kept track of all the drinks - well done.

Quaint Pub

By O1624BUcraigw |

When my wife and I arrived in NYC after a long airplane ride and taxi into Manhattan, we needed some alcohol. So, we spoke with the hotel conceive. She directed us to this cute pub about a block away from the hotel. It was a small bar or pub that had a nice look to it. I had a gin and tonic while my wife had a glass of Cava Spanish version of champagne). The bartender was a friendly young Irish ☘️ woman. She made one feel at home. There is bar food available, but, we didn’t eat anything. We will go back there, the next time that we visit New York City!

Breakfast

By setter3 |

We were only here once so I can only review the breakfast. Service (Jesse?) was fast and professional early on a Sunday morning. Four of us ate a variety of foods. One had French toast and it was pretty amazing. One had some great pancakes. Another had pancakes with chicken sausage but was underwhelmed by the sausage. I had the egg white omlette which was a little bland but okay. Coffee was too strong for our liking but I know some folks enjoy it like that. Breakfast for four with tip came to just about $125. Bathrooms are downstairs...not sure if they are handicap accessible.

Could have been higher...

By na07950 |

Not sure if Tanner Smith's wants to be known for its bar or its restaurant (the big neon sign you'll see outside is for the bar), but we were there for dinner after seeing a show at the Roundabout Theater (which is just down the street). Our disappointment (and the reason for the 3 star rating) was due to seating. We were told when we arrived that no seats were available in the dining area and the only available seats were at the bar or on the high tops in the bar. We stayed and really enjoyed our food (burrata and pretzel small plates as apps and lamb burgers and grain bowl as mains) but the seating was really uncomfortable. Plus....one of us went to the rest room and just happened to see lots of free tables in the dining area. Why lie to the customer? Did they just want to make the bar area look full? Had we been seated at more comfortable seats the rating would have definitely been higher and we would have stayed for dessert (and might have thought about returning before/after the next Roundabout show)...

Very Nice place

Very nice food and a fast and friendly service. Will definitly come back When I have the chance!!!!!

Just what we were looking for

By Melissa R |

My mom and I wanted a quick bite before going to a matinee. The burger and blt were just right. The aioli for the blt was tasty and good with the fries. The garlic parsley fries were good - but needed more garlic and salt. Would go again.

Came for drinks which were great!

Morgan was great, made lovely drinks and was v professional. Atmosphere was cool and lots to choose from on drinks menu. Only downside was it felt like we were pushed to get a second drink before we had finished our first ones.

Great food and Service

By Mary |

We enjoyed dining at Tanner Smith’s. Great decor, food and service. No Sunday Jazz brunch any longer. But we want to come back there again.

Great service, great food!

By Glamourpuss-Tourer |

Came here on the last day of our vacation and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the service was exemplary. Would definitely recommend!

Great place

By amellor007 |

Went for dinner, food excellent my wife had the fish and chips and it was delicious service was excellent and drinks good as well would highly recommend going back again tonight

Good bar well worth a visit

By Marco |

Tanner Smiths was recommended to me by a pal who visits NY on a regular basis First visit one evening sat at the bar .....friendly bar staff who although busy would take time out to chat with you. Decent selection of beers and spirits and in our opinion particularly good wine (white) Second visit in the afternoon we ate in restaurant area at the rear of bar. Nice atmosphere and again great staff very attentive. Food was reasonable and service very good

Best post NYC marathon dinner!

By BecLaird |

We actually ate here twice! Was a convenient walk from our hotel, service fantastic, food really really good & prices reasonable. Atmosphere/ambiance is outstanding: relaxed but with a great feel/personality. Burgers and Steaks were both as good as each other. Wanted to try the starters but portion size meant a Main/Entree was more than enough per person. Would return on my next visit to NYC.

Loved it

By Kay D |

We went for lunch on August 6th. The smoked cheeseburger was the best Burger we’ve ever had. We had two sides tater tots and sweet potato fries. The drinks from the bar were strong and cold. The service was impeccable. 10/10 for us.

Upscale mountain retreat in Manhattan

By IvyNYC |

How had I missed this place? The noise in the main bar and dining area was intense, so we were offered to sit in the downstairs bar. It was like a mountain lodge retreat right in the middle of NYC. Cozy, attractive, comfortable with excellent service and terrific food & drinks!

An exceptional speakeasy

By Elodie R |

Superb pub, exceptional address. Impeccable service, super friendly waiters and doorman! The decor is that of a speakeasy, the atmosphere is great thanks to the perfectly selected playlist and the decoration (old photos, old maps of Manhattan, silent film projected, fireplace behind the bar). Taste the cocktails: they are divine!!! As for the cooking, it’s flawless! Well done !!!

Exquisite service

By sean743 |

Torn between venue's, my friends and I finally decided to try tanners for a meal and a drink. The food was delicious and the drinks werent half bad either! Aslo a special shout out to Clare for the excellent service. We will definitely be back!

New York

By Notis6142 |

Food was over cooked, it was on of the worst meals I have had in a long time. I had hoped for a good meal but all the dish’s looked they had been reheated

Unique NYC experience

By Leann F |

This establishment is unique and way too cool for us. They have it dialed in, the interior, food, drinks, and service are all A+. We visited it twice in the same day. There is a downstairs bar that you have to check out.

Nice atmosphere and good food

By MUTigerFan90 |

This was close to our hotel and turned out to be a good pick for our first meal in NYC. It was a Thursday evening around 7 pm and when we walked in it was super noisy around the bar in the front of the restaurant. We were lead to a table in the back and it was a much better atmosphere for visiting. We were surprised with how quickly our food came out after ordering. I ordered the pork nachos which were good, but my friend ordered the Margherita pizza which was delicious.

I miss this place

By Evan C |

I came in to this place once or twice just before lockdown hit! Clare was our bartender she was so positive about the whole thing and just so lovely. She made us amazing cocktails and just made us so annoyed we couldn’t come straight back to this bar!! A hidden gem in midtown New York. Ask for Clare.

Great Sunday brunch

By Nick C |

Recommended by friends who live in New York and we were not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere with live music. Great coffee and tasty food. Thoroughly recommend the Brussel sprout hash with steak!! Serving staff were lovely and friendly too.

Fantastic Bar Food

By animalhousewife |

My husband and I walked in just by chance one evening, because our hotel was just around the corner and we were looking for food and drinks. The staff are super friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced (for the location). But let me tell you about the food! It's simply fantastic bar food. The cheese curds, the garlic and parsley fries, the chicken wings, the fish and chips....it was all fabulous. We found ourselves there repeatedly throughout our trip, raving about it on our Facebook check-in posts and just overall thoroughly enjoying ourselves. When I return to NYC, I will return here.

Amazing old fashions!

By Karen H |

Frequent Manhattan with our timeshare on 56th St and 7th. Tanner Smith’s in right around the corner and has wonderful signature twists to your typical cocktails. I get their version of an Old fashion with its smoke infused liquor that is actually smoked in front of you. Bartenders are great and very conversational. Combined with the stylish setting of an old speakeasy, it’s a fun place to hang out.

Bartender mess up

By Christian W |

I like this place it’s fun, but the bartender messed up my drink order then gives me it then wouldn’t gave me what I wanted because I already drank out of it. I find this frustrating especially when it’s the bartenders fault

Glad we found the place!

By Linda M |

A "pub" to be sure, but the drinks were cold and the food was delecious!! At the time we went there wasn't any music or raucus young people enjoying themselves and we were happy we hit it at that time...we just needed a nice cool space with good food, attentive staff and that's what we found. If you're looking for a more lively crowd, call and ask them when there's good music and crowd....but whenever you go, you won't be disappointed!!

Nice late night Meal

By Erich B |

Really enjoyed the meal here. Especially the Cauliflower with watermelon dish. This is a comfortable spot with nice small plates. Perfect for after a play but not wanting to eat too much kind of a meal. Our drinks were good too!

Excellent bar staff fantastic

By Michael J |

Excellent bar staff fantastic a must for anyone visiting New York a good find will be back next time in the city

Great location and vibe

By Josh H |

I came here with a group of business friends on a whim from the Hilton nearby. This is a very convenient location close to Times Square, but not too big. The menu wasn’t anything special, but the service and drink selection was worth the visit. If you are looking for a casual place in Midtown, this is a good spot.

Great Barstaff

By scallenby |

Nice drinks and food at a good price. The bar staff are very friendly and helpful, I would recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a casual setting for drinks and food.

Lunch and drinks! Just go!

By Jenny S |

Omg. Love this place. Love the food. Loveddd josh from Tennessee. Live music at brunch on Saturday! Amazing place to start off our girl weekend in the city!

Alright

By Aurelien |

We liked the atmosphere and decoration of the bar/restaurant. The staff was very friendly. The dishes were good as long as you like savory dishes. To advice.

A familiar stop in NYC

By David S |

The drinks, as usual were awesome. The Burrata and the side dish of Brussel sprouts had excellent taste and texture. A point lost for the chocolate dessert. Too dry

Great Place

By SteveLalaE |

Came here on our first nite in NYC. SO GLAD WE DID.!! When we walked in it was crowded. We checked in our coats and found a table that was being used by another couple and asked if they wouldn’t mind sharing and they opened up their table to us. There was a live ban playing which was awesome! Drinks were very good and easy to order. I’m sorry we didn’t come back to eat here, from the reviews they looks like people were happy with the food. Come here, enjoy the great vibe, you will be glad you did.

Great brunch

By Gerard A |

We visited here for a Sunday brunch with jazz. A great menu selection and very tasty. A wonderful band entertained us for the 2 hours we spent here. Would definitely recommend.

Pre Show eats

By ames3480 |

Came here after my husband & I read all the reviews. Great Atmosphere, Aaaammmaazzing Cocktails, Loved the food the duck confit spring rolls were killer& NY Poutine was greeatttk..(but I personally didn’t care for pork nachos ( lil dry) )Service was perfect Krystal had great drink and food recommendations . We told her we had to make a show and she had food delivered in perfect time w/ out making us feel rushed . This is a place I’ll definitely go back to . Now my reason for 4 instead of 5 stars .. the front bar pretty loud / crowded however if you dine in the back or downstairs area you’ll be fine —unless you want the music , bar chilling scene than yea stay up front because its cool ..

Great afternoon lunch for family with teens and adults

By sbhsy |

After MOMA we wanted a mid afternoon lunch that wasn't a huge Italian or Asian meal (which were many of the nearby options) and that wasn't too expensive. Found Tanner Smith's which was well rated on Trip Advisor and glad we tried it. The front is a cool bar area and the back is a restaurant that's bigger than expected. Good beers on tap which we ordered and were delivered quickly. Everything we chose was excellent. Grilled cheese with bacon, grilled chicken sandwich with a lemon hummus really nice aioli and guacamole, cheese, pastrami reubens (2) and a roasted vegetable sandwich which had lemon hummus, aioli and goat cheese. Each were served with fries which were crispy and served with ketchup and a ranch? dip that was great. Portions were large but not monstrous. The downside was the service. Our waitress was kind of scattered. The food and water refills were served by others so x in the mid afternoon but we spent 15 min more than we wanted waiting to pay our bill. Atmosphere was relaxed and fun - pub/inn feel with a layout that isn't crammed together. Neat maps and prints on the wall, vintage wallpaper, dark wood, etc Definitely recommend it but not if you're in a rush.

Sit in the back if you like it quieter

By divefan |

We came for drinks around 10pm on a weeknight, twice during our trip. The first time, we sat in the bar area at the front of the restaurant, and it was packed and pretty loud (81 dB average). The drinks were good but the crowded bar made it a challenge to get served. Most of the patrons looked like young professional types. The second time we sat in the back, in the restaurant area. We ordered some chips and guacamole with our drinks, which were conveniently delivered to our table. The back was much quieter, and we preferred that experience.

Traditional Irish!

By joneo |

DId Sunday brunch with live Irish music - great experience! Not an empty seat in the house. Great ambience with lots of revelry on a Sunday afternoon. Nice variety of food options and a little different than a typical brunch menu so check before you go. For example, lots of egg options, but no omelets. Recommend baked pancake and duck hash.

Drinks and chats

By Aine L |

Myself and a few of my friends were going to see Wicked and wanted a nice cocktail before our show. We called in to Tanner Smiths which is only a few blocks from the show and we were reluctant to leave. The cocktails were flowing and the atmosphere was great. Special shout out to our bartender Clare who even though the bar was slammed was always taking care of us while also keeping conversation flowing.

Great food, Great staff

By MalibuAndPineapple |

stopped in for drinks with friends after a show at Carnegie Hall and decided to grab a bite to eat after looking at the menu. Great selection of beers, drinks and food. Staff was very attentive, friendly, and fast with our order. Food was EXCELLENT! I will definitely be back

Over Priced Cocktails

By Rebecca B |

Cocktails were very mediocre and expensive ($17). Food was great, eggplant chips were delicious as well as the flatbread and burrata! Ambiance was nice and overall cool vibe, however I felt as if the waitstaff was rushing us, continuing to ask if we were ready to order.

Clares’s the girl

By Karen O |

Great place, made even more enjoyable with the service, craic and cocktails from our waitress Clare from Newry, Northern Ireland. 😃

Good ambience and drinks but avarage food

By Grecia J |

I came here with a friend for drinks. It’s a nice place and the atmosphere is cool and moody, typical New York sexy bar. I had a special kind of Mule which was delicious. Although, i came back with my mother for dinner and ordered a Hamburger, because you can’t go wrong with that! When it got to the table looked normal and yet when we got to eat it it was like my brother had made me a hamburger! It was like i was eating a freezer box hamburger for $20. Disappointing. Don’t order the hamburger. Anyway, the waitress and staff were very friendly.

A night to remember

By Shauna T |

Just arrived home from our trip to New York.. our night in this bar was definitely one to remember! Our barmaid Clare couldn’t have done anymore for us she was so knowledgeable and great at making cocktails! She kept myself and my husband entertained for the whole evening! Loved the having the craic with her! An asset to the bar and will definitely be back on our next trip over!! Great venue, music and staff!!!

Great meal and service

By TrishBoc |

Was looking for a place close to our client’s office and this place was perfect. Really cool atmosphere - fun music, friendly staff. The waiter did a great job recommending food - the buffalo chicken egg rolls were so good. We had the fried chicken sandwich (with garlic Parmesan fries that were so good!), the prosciutto and arugula and fig flatbread, and then the lamb burger. Everything tasted great, we had plenty of food, and the service was very attentive. Would definitely go back!

Must Go To Bar!

By lbmatuszczak |

Super cool vibe. Awesome live music, jazzy vibe. Decor was cool, a little dark, but not too dark. Food was excellent!

Great for Snacks and Beer

By Timothy E |

This restaurant and bar is only about a half block away from the Courtyard by Marriott at 1717 Broadway and was a convenient stop over for a snack and beer. I went in and took a two top by the back bar with a friend. We each had a beer and shared guacamole and chips. The snack was fresh tasting. The service was efficient and friendly. It is a nice atmosphere for a casual chat.

Three visits in 3-1/2 days

By SFSDSK |

If you like a fun atmosphere with friendly staff, good food, and unique drinks, this is your place. We were in the city 3-1/2 days and discovered Tanner Smith's shortly after checking in to our hotel. Our first visit was for brunch and cocktails...both were great! The banana bread was amazing!! We stopped back two more days during our brief trip, once late afternoon and once late evening (planned to be our last experience before leaving town). Unique cocktails we loved: Irish Coffee, The Winona, The Gutshot (way better than it sounds), just to name a few. Three visits in 3-1/2 days tells you all you need to know! 4 stars only because the late night DJ was playing some trippy music that sounded like a broken record and didn't fit the atmosphere.

Fantastic service and choice of drinks

By Lorna C |

Popped in here for a few drinks late afternoon before a show. Really attentive and polite staff. Great ambience. Would definitely recommend and go back. Beautiful toilets, look Art Deco.

Good food, good drinks, but very dark and pretty cramped

By TophersTravels71 |

Four of us for a late lunch on a Friday. Place wasn't empty, but it wasn't jammed either. We got stuffed into a small table pressed up against two walls that was hard to get into and out of. Service was slower than we'd have expected given that it wasn't that busy, but she was friendly and helpful. The food was very good and the beer selection was broad, so it was generally a good stop. Next time, we'd ask for a different table.

Great beers and service

By Jayne9023 |

Popped in here on Sunday, there was a 4 piece jazz band playing creating a brilliant atmosphere. Good selection of ales and beers to try. Service good, didn’t eat so can not comment on food but lots of people were eating. Would go back if ever in NY

Great spot for a nightcap

By bugzzeye |

My Wife and I went here one night after a show. This spot was great because it’s close to the Theater District but far enough away. They have a great late night menu and the drinks were great. We had Beef Nachos, Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls and Carrot Cake for dessert along with some fantastic drinks. The service was great and the ambiance of the place fantastic

Great food. Great atmosphere

By wombat2002 |

We had dinner here. Restaurant area is at the rear , bar area at the front. Great selection of food and beverages. Highly recommend this place

Delicious Lunch

By Lizchasteen |

We really enjoyed our lunch at Tanner Smith's. The service was great and the food delicious! I highly recommend it!

Good for a drink after the theater

By GradingMachine |

My wife and I popped in for drinks after the theater: we say Morning Sun and HIGHLY recommend it. My wife had a Smuggler's War; I had a Cote du Rhone, Ju De Vie.

Great staff, great experience and a great time.

By Brian R |

Fantastically friendly place to eat and drink. Great atmosphere and welcoming staff especially the manager and young lady hostess who looked after us at the weekend, making us feel very welcome. If we return to NY from England, we'll definitely be coming back to see you.

After Work

By Mymilesandsmiles |

Happy Hour - Bartenders are excellent and DJ plays on Friday and Saturdays Brunch - good drinks, delicious food and live music. Just really comfortable atmosphere

Classic old time bar with great food and atmosphere!

By Rebecca R |

This restaurant is decorated with an old school gangster time theme. It had great old pictures and displays and the foood was awesome!

Very good lunch at this "speakeasy"

By Northern_Traveler00 |

It looks like it's been around forever, perhaps it has been. I had an excellent burger and the handcut fries, she had the Salad Nicoise, with so much extremely rare and delicious tuna. Prices are fairly reasonable for that part of town. Service was very attentive

Fab first night in New York City 🥰

By Debbie V |

Found this little gem on our first night in NY city, the food was delicious & the cocktails 🍸 were nice ( very strong ) our daughters first legal USA 🇺🇸 drink 😜 Highly recommended great staff & lovely ambiance 🥰

Hot Chicken & Waffles For the Win!

By SparkysCrew |

Great service and the atmosphere is cozy but with breathing room. Small plates hit the spot but the Hot Chicken and Waffles MADE the dinner. Adding this spot to the rotation, for sure!

Great place

By Simona70 |

Warm and lively atmosphere , good food and great service. We also loved the live music band, absolutely amazing We will definitely be back

amazing hidden gem in tourist hotspot

By PT |

this place was so amazing. A hidden gem just off Times Square. Great atmosphere, wicked cocktails and really good food. I was really impressed with the service and friendly employees. Try the flatbreads and chicken tenders. Plus the gin cocktails were soooooo good!

Hot Tawdy!

By Jennibrad3190 |

I was staying across the street at WestHouse and was suffering from a respiratory virus. Went across the street with my sister for a glass of wine and the waitress suggested a Hot Tawdy. Worked like a charm and tasted superb!

Cannot understand why this bar is even rated

By Steve W |

Saw reviews on line which seemed decent. We were seated at a table and gave our drink order to our waitress. Never saw her again. Walked out after 20 minutes after watching other people seated after us get their drinks. Can't really comment on the food.

Excellent Food and Drinks!

By Jason Jones |

My wife and I ate here on the evening of Nov9. Lively bar atmosphere with a live DJ. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. My wife had buffalo chicken spring rolls which were also outstanding. They had a nice draft beer and cocktail selection. We were also highly pleased with the service. The manager came over to our table at the end of our dinner to offer free drinks due to the time it took to get our food. We declined the free drinks as we were highly impressed with the overall dining experience. When the waitress brought the check the manager had removed the charge for one of my beers and one of my wife’s cocktails. Very classy and nice gesture. Thank you!

Nice Cocktails

By Neta_Avivi |

We had a good time at Tanner Smith’s. The cocktails were nice and tasty but not the best you can find in other cocktail bars in the city (Employees Only, Nomad, to name a couple).

Brilliant bar with a brilliant atmosphere

By Jaime G |

Brilliant bar with a brilliant atmosphere . The food was delicious and the staff so friendly . We really had a great evening here and I totally recommend you should go here . Great place

Fun atmosphere, great drinks!

By Catherine S |

Tanner Smith's is a fun bar, with great drinks/snacks. It has an awesome trendy feel, in a grownup atmosphere.

Somewhat disappointing, stale atmosphere

By John W |

It's been quite a while since I visited this "speakeasy" bar last, but I remembered it as having a nice atmosphere, often times with a jazz band and singer playing in the front corner of the room. This time, when visiting with a friend on a late Saturday afternoon, I was hoping to experience that again. However, what we found was a fairly dull atmosphere, no band, and not many people. So, we just had an overpriced drink and went somewhere else on a very crowded Saturday in Manhattan. The only consolation was the staff was friendly.

A comfortable, local bar

By CityRobin |

Great carnivore and vegetarian choices....comfortable relaxed surroundings....had Winona specialty drink...will go again next time I am in the city

Definitely coming back for brunch!

By Jay |

The banana hot toddy is fantastic if you’re a banana fan and was great in the cold weather. I went for the fried chicken sandwich, nothing unique but a good chicken sandwich. My friend enjoyed her burger and we both loved the truffle fries. This spot is known for this skillet pancake so we shared that as well - don’t skip it - one of the most delicious things I’ve ever had and maybe the best pancake. Service was a little slow but didn’t mind, and the ambiance and light prohibiton-era vibe is so nice especially if you catch the band playing like we did.

This place is amazing

By Sean F |

Our fourth trip back for brunch...best brunch in NYC. You have to get a booking, but do it!!! The food is outstanding, the music is amazing, he drinks are excellent...and the food is outstanding. Even if you get there at ten before the band, the old school R&B will get you into the mood. Avocado smash? Great. Breakfast flatbread? Great. Waiter named Josh who can really dance? Check!! Get a reservation, go. Just go... Thanks for another great brunch gang!!

Great Service!

By KurtProctor |

Our group of six ordered a wide variety of lunch items, from salads to sandwiches, with everyone ordering beer and cocktails. The terrific rotating tap of regional beers poured a well-rounded variety of beers for every palate. Somebody there must be doing a taste test before they bring something in, because every beer we ordered was outstanding. (We all tasted each other's beers) The cocktails were inventive and good, without being so pretentiously odd that they failed in the tasting. The Paddy Wagon was a particular favorite. The sandwiches, fish and chips and salads were all generous, filling and very tasty. The Reuben was outstanding. For a NYC location, the prices were very reasonable. We paid almost twice as much the day before for a lunch that was only about half as good. So - good restaurant in NYC. Big deal, right? The big deal was the service! You don't always get great, friendly, accommodating, helpful service in the big apple, but at Tanner Smith's we were pleasantly surprised by the server, the hostess, and the manager on duty who all wowed us with their hospitality. We'll definitely go back to Tanner's when we're back in the city in October!

Cocktails and live music

By Emily S |

Went here after a Broadway show on a Sunday for a late night meal. Good creative cocktail list Perfect size portions for food--variety of meals to fit each person's taste. Live music playing in the bar.

Fab bar

By LisaT |

We didn't eat here but had drinks on a couple of nights as it was opposite our hotel. Always busy, great atmosphere and great drinks.

Welcoming appearance

By ifsharpe |

Not too far from our hotel and decorated well for Halloween 👻 too so we gave it a try. Initially we were seated downstairs but it was really quiet so we asked for an upstairs table which wasn't a problem. Apparently there had been a large group of people downstairs who had just left and they were trying to fill if up again! The atmosphere upstairs was buzzing and much better. We chose the tacos and mac n cheese with two of the local beers and enjoyed it very much, reasonably priced too with a good menu to choose from.

Knowledgeable & Friendly Bartenders

By Kate Notwell |

Connor & John were great to us. They knew so much about bourbon, Irish whiskey, and the city in general. We felt so lucky to have found these guys. Also exceptional service. I am a server/bartender and felt quite at home with these gents. In fact we changed our plans to spend more time with them. Us Canadians will be back to this bar every time we come to the city. Thanks John and Connor for being awesome!!! Highly recommend, especially if you are bourbon fans

Pre-drinks prior to a show at Carnegie Hall

By Gershwin12 |

Stopped in for drinks prior to a show at Carnegie Hall as recommended by a friend who lives in the neighborhood. Seems like a place for tourists To stop in for a taste of traditional NYC pups and locals wanting a post-work drink. Arriving at 5 PM it was not terribly crowded, however by 6:30 PM it was extremely crowded and difficult to get out the door. Recommendation: after entering the pub go directly to the back of the restaurant where there is a second bar; it is not as crowded and you get the same terrific service and menus. Nice place to unwind and have traditional and inventive cocktails. Atmosphere is old school, yet has a trendy feel. Bartenders were all helpful and willing to make beverage and food recommendations based on our individual desires. Remember this is Manhattan and drinks can be expensive but for us it was well worth it. Oh, and remember to tip your bartenders!

Great NYC bar, best burgers too!

By MattyTheHatt |

Stopped off at Tanner Smiths post Central Park. A great bar, great atmosphere and ambience, barmen was very attentive and explained the cocktails he was making whilst we tucked into a couple of the best burgers we tasted whilst on our 5 day NYC trip. Be sure to go and find this bar!

Very bad customer service, would not recommend!

By Sarah V |

I’ve never seen a place with such bad customer service. They took my drink away when it was half full (even though I left for five minutes) and the bar would not take accountability for it. I’ve never experienced someone so rude with customers (I believe it was management). They wanted to charge me again for a drink even though it was their team messing up! Drinks here are expensive but you are definitely not getting the service you deserve for it. Management should be held accountable for this type of behaviour.

Brunch

By Sax_Doc |

Overall solid brunch but nothing special. Nice space with live jazz on Sundays. However, you can only hear the music in the bar area. We had no idea in the back of the dining room. The wait staff was, well, just ok. Hard to track down. We waited a long time for someone to come to refill our coffee. The food was adequate but not memorable. The toast was as bland as bland can be. Meh.

Great cocktails

By Scrotchidson |

Came here just to get sh*t faced on Old Fashions and we came to the right place! Sat at the bar and enjoyed the barman/women create their cocktails.

Very nice place with great burgers

By Phil25 |

Visited as right opposite our hotel and had previous good reviews. Weekday evening at 6.30pm it was very busy at the front but much quieter at the back where we were seated. There are no menus - you have to scan the code and look on your phones at their website which is a bit fiddly but got there in the end! We had the TS beef burger with garlic fries which was excellent and the French Onion Wagyu burger with hand cut fries which was nice but perhaps not quite as good as expected for the price and the fries were a bit undercooked. Portions were about what you'd get at home, not larger. Our waiter was very nice and helpful and the bill with a bottle of Magners and a coke came to about $80 which seemed a bit steep but guess this is central NY! Overall we had a nice evening and good burgers.

Good cocktail

By Gibbo4673 |

Good cocktails, full at the bar, nowhere to sit, but good ambience. Happy hour? Unsure how to work that one out....

Egregious vulgar

By Chmpgnrose |

Post-Theater summons libation in hopes for merriment for a happy ending to a Saturday evening. It was 5:30 pm when I entered a semi quiet bar in the Theater District. Hooks are available under the bar counter. I had to request for water rather than being provided to customers. Tanner Smiths is a dark, dingy bar. There is a large TV displaying a vintage silent film that is viewed on a continuous loop sequence. I was hoping for pigs in the blanket or shrimp or salad for small plates. The wine list is limited. Drinks are excessively overpriced. I do not believe Happy Hour is offered. Business cards are available for grabs by a wall near restroom entrance. Cabernet Sauvignon, (Joseph Carr, California) $15 Subtle and good finish. Average. Utter dismal price. French Fries gf $8 Gluten free and served piping hot. Average. It was 6:30 pm when I departed a hustling busy bar with abundant customers. My male server was average with his customer service and social skills with customers yet fending a disgruntled meaningless life attitude and displaying a nonchalant tone as he worked sifting through the evening. My male server visibly noticed my seat empty as I went to the facility and I started a tab with the bar holding my credit card. When I returned to my seat it was occupied and my plate of unfinished French fries and finished glass of wine were removed from the counter. The dude blatantly assumed I was finished, but behold he still has my credit card keeping a open tab. The male server did not have the courtesy to hold my seat voicing "someone is sitting there" nor the woman sitting in my seat notice my tote bag hanging on the hook. I feel I was ejected possibly alienated as I did not spend a lot of money or I was alone without a party or the social injustice or perhaps is it something else? I refused to continue my experience standing resulting from my seat was occupied and my remaining unfinished food was removed without my request, ergo I have taken my leave for the evening. I retrieved my belongings and closed my tab intentional leaving a small gratuity for this reason. The bottom of the bill embeds "suggested tip" of 18%, 20% and 22% ergo patrons do not have to calculate the arithmetic sequence. I departed dispirited and utter dismayed. "Bye, Felicia!" "All hope abandon ye who enter here." -- Dante Alighieri's "Inferno"

WORST PLACE TO EAT EVER!!!

By Luis J |

Worst Place to Eat Ever! Everything is refried: the chicken, the hand-cut fries. I got sick from eating at Tanner Smith's. I don't recommend it, not even to my worst enemy. Save yourself the time and money and go some place decent to eat.

Amazing bar and restaurant

By Riaz D |

I have been here twice now and love coming in whenever I visit New York. The staff always treats me well. The live music always sets a great mood. I just love all of the subtle things they do to make sure you are well taken care of. The prices are very reasonable too. I recommend everything!

Busy Pub

By riny |

Tanner Smith’s is a popular & busy pub. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and good bar service - but it gets very crowded & noisy with after the work crowd. Not a place to go for a comfortable and quiet drink.

Good atmosphere, great service

By Mackenzie Wilson |

Great to see a place with such great atmosphere midday on a Friday. Even with the crowds Anna’s service was efficient and attentive. Good Rosé. Frisee salad was tasty - cheers for the recommendation.
