I used to be a frequent customer before the pandemic. I came in today with my husband for dinner and drinks with no reservation, host told us the restaurant was completely sold out. I went on OpenTable and I found a table within 15 min. When we came back and host and bouncer kept saying the place was full but he was "able" to find my reservation. Not sure if he didn't want us there because we were a gay couple or because we were dressed very casually . We stayed for over an hour and there was only 1 more table occupied in the entire restaurant. Everything else was ok but the experience was so degrading that I will never come back to this place after being here more than a dozen of times and I only wanted to support this place during these difficult times that we all are going through but obviously they don’t care.

Do the bottomless drinks for sure. Well worth it and in two drinks you’re covered. Burgers, steak sandwich, eggs Benedict were fantastic. Bartender was awesome. Would definitely trek down to NYC for another good time with friends.

Went here on a Thursday night for drinks with co-workers. It was very busy and very loud, but we were still able to find some spots at the bar. Great selection of drinks. Didn't eat anything, but the food looked amazing, so will be back for that.

The hamburgers are small, but adequate, as were the salads. The chicken sandwich was large, but a bit dried out. Beer selection was good with lots on draft.

Decent bar pub that has a nice selection of draft craft beer and some good choices for food, but it was good, not great. The staff is also very friendly and had good service. The Hangover burger (cheddar cheese, bacon and egg) with sweet potato fries was good, but certainly not the best burger that I have had. Tip: They have a rooftop area where you can hang out.

Arriving late in NYC my husband and I decided on Tavern 29 as it was next door to our hotel. The roof top bar and dining made it all more appealing since it was a beautiful evening. And a great choice it was. The football games were on their outside TV and the menu offerings were just what we needed. A selection of craft beer and a decent wine selection to. Our waitresses were great offering us suggestions on the menu and quickly making us feel at home. Yes, it was a homey kind of atmosphere. Roof top, TV, beautiful night outside, food and drink delivered with a smile! I enjoyed the Tavern burger with truffle fries. Hamburger was cooked as ordered for this food snob; medium rare. The chef got it right! Yeah. The potato bun was fresh and hit the spot. The fries were crispy and not too salty. No need for extra salt! My husband had the Kobe Sliders with sweet potato fries. Another hit. I tried the kobe burger. And it was moist, tender and tasty. Enjoyable dinner on the roof! Would visit again for sure.

I have watched many games here and the food, drinks, and service are always very good. With three levels, we are always able to get a table. Audio for the big sporting events is a plus as well. Rooftop is nice, but no views due to the neighboring buildings.

Friendly staff; Kobe sliders were delicious and conveniently located across the street from the hotel.

This may have been partly my fault. Was in a rush to find a place to eat equidistant from my work and that of a friend. Quickly glancing over the reviews, looked okay. They really mean Tavern. Smelled like the beer haunts I frequented in college...smell of aged beer. The flatbread pizza was excellent. The stuffed animals on the walls were a bit much but the waitress was charming.

Had a great meal and a nice selection of craft beers and wonderful service too! Waitress even tracked us down at our hotel down the street after my wife left her hat there.

This is a classic NYC bar...dark, well appointed in a period style, with plenty of space. We hosted a wedding rehearsal gathering at Tavern 29, on the second floor and the service, food and drinks were great. They have a huge number of beers on tap, and just about every distilled spirit you can imagine. The staff was fantastic, from the planning to the execution of our party, and was just as great a few days later when we went back to grab dinner downstairs by ourselves. They also have a rooftop space available.

New Years Eve “Event” turned out basically to be an oversold frat party. Complete waste of time and money. DJ was useless. Tunes were rubbish and he loved the sound of his own voice too much. Paid $114 for the ticket which was to include Premium Brand drinks. Choice of beer was Budweiser or Corona! Had one drink and left. Definitely avoid their NYE party

We had dinner during our NY trip, very good hamburgers and sandwich . High quality and also many differents draft beers . I like also the location , pub style warm and welcoming with sport TV.

Tucked just around the corner from Park Ave South, head up to the third floor and enjoy the biergarten. The setting is open, but intimate and service is great!

We had already had dinner by the time we arrived here, but the drinks were just fine. They were out of the two selections that I had asked for, and that's kind of a bummer. I was the only one in my group to have that problem. I have to say that the menu looked appealing, and I'd be tempted to try the food the next time. Nice atmosphere I thought, and everyone was comfortable.

We were staying at the Gansevoort Park Ave and we stopped in here around mid-night for a snack and a few drinks. The food, drinks and service were all very good. They have a roof top outdoor dining area which we did not eat in but I could see from our terrace across the street. A great place to stop if you are nearby.

We met family here for drinks and food and catching up. Service was off the charts great. Nice drinks. Great pub fare. Small, Irish Bar feel.

Weirdest experience of my life. The second waitress working the roof (not ours) came with the bill and was so rude to me. When she took back the bill processed she ripped it so hard she broke my nail. No one was rude or had any it interaction with her until this point. We had each 1-2 drinks tops and a 20% tip was auto added to this group. I have never experienced a situation like this. Would highly suggest you go somewhere else. It’s not special enough to be treated this poorly.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood or staying at the Gavensvoort this is a must. Not trend but a totally local hang out Went for a friends birthday bash and exceptional staff, great drinks and nice eats. Always nice to find a place that is there but a city dweller hang out

The place was beautiful. I loved the three floors. However, the burger was mostly bun. I loved the fries. I would go back for the fries.

Chimney rooftop with high walls on 3 sides. Large beers selection and generous pour on mixed drinks. If you are a wine snob this is not your kind of place. It gets packed with groups from the neighborhood. This is more of a place for tacos and other apps to nosh on while you hang out rather than full dinners. Service is very slow but friendly. Drinks after work? Absolutely. Go for what it is, not fancy but gets the “bar” thing done.

Tavern 29 is a fun casual rooftop restaurant. The place was packed and the atmosphere is casual with great food! Most of the food is pub style but I highly recommend the New York Strip! We will be returning!

Service was good, but it was quite hot where we were seated and dark. The food was nice and we were seated and served quickly.

Family of 4, we came in for late dinner after a long day at Six Flags. It seemed like more of a «bar» place so we were impressed by the food which was really good. Mac’n Cheese and Duck Burger comes highly recommended. Local Pilsner was also very good. The waiter was very attentive and gave us a good experience.

Visiting Time Square from Ireland and came across this little gem a few short blocks away from the madness. Great funky decor particularly in the alcove with its pop art and had the best chicken burger I have had in a long time washed down with a craft beer. Highly recommend!

We went for a drink and decided to have diner later on. The waitress was very friendly and said that reservation was not neccesary. When we arrived after 8pm a man said that we have to sit in a corner because we had 2 minors with us, so we said thank you but we will have diner somewhere else. When we pass this place again after diner (because our hotel was near by). The man was outsite smoking and said to us ... oh you finally got rid of your childeren (they went to the hotel earlier than us)... this was over... shame for the other nice people to work with this kind of man!

Fun bar located close to Martha Washington Hotel. Serves decent bar food and good selection beer and cocktails.

My wife and went to Tavern 29 last night. We ordered Farmer's Board, which is a large selection of cheeses and meat. Too much food for 2 unless it's two NFL football players. Great bar food. Ask for Ivy- a phenomenal waitress. Take whatever recommendations she makes.

Early May 2024 was my first time visiting the electric NYC. I was a tourist, so after hours of exploring the city I was eager to find a nice bar where I could go for some nice drinks and good food. Myself and my pals landed in Tavern 29 around 7pm. As soon as I stepped in the bar I was greeted by a lovely and bubbly Irishman named Peter. The service was really good, all the staff were friendly and the bartender Leo served us some of the nicest pints of Guinness I have ever had. He is also a very interesting man when it comes to all types of sport. We are all into our sport so we chatted for hours across all ranges of American and Irish sports. We had a fantastic night and met some very interesting people from all backgrounds. Overall, Tavern 29 has very kind and attentive staff, lovely Guinness and tasty food. I would definitely recommend it to any New Yorker or tourist if ever they are that side of town.

Let me start by saying I heard this place has a roof top bar. I didn't get up there but only sat at the bar on the main floor. Set in a narrow building. The first floor has two options; sit at the bar or sit at high top tables. A little pricy but this is expected. Service was fast and the food selections were pub like food with some daily specials. Food was good and it's a nice place to stop for a drink or casual meal.

It was late. We had just flown in. It was freezing cold and my birthday and our hotel recommended this nearby bar. Two perfect seats were available for us at the end of the bar. The staff was friendly as were the patrons. A very nice neighbor at the bar even bought me a martini to celebrate. It was a good place to walk into on a freezing evening. I cannot, however, speak highly of the whole meal I ordered. It was a plate of 3 sliders, one supposedly being lobster roll, one pulled pork, and the other a burger. The pulled pork was good and the burger ok, but the lobster roll -- It did not resemble lobster to me. Nor did it taste like lobster. There was a lot of mayo and small bits of what seemed to be tiny shrimp bits that had been boiled beyond taste. And I was so ready for a good taste of east coast lobster, even a small bite. However, I recommend Tavern 29. If I'm ever back in Murray Hill, I would go there again. It's a good bar. Friendly Clientele. Good service.

We were celebrating a friend's going away with drinks and stopped by Tavern 29 after hanging at the stuffy NoMad Bar. Tavern 29 was definitely a lot more chill with a masculine decor, hidden table areas, TVs, good music, and relatively quick bartender service. The cons: the crowd was 90% men. I don't know if it was a fluke, but my single male friends were certainly not happy with the selection. At one point the back bar area also smelled like toxic cleaning solution, which I choked on for at least 10 minutes until I gave in and absorbed the fumes, prematurely aging my lungs. But again, it could've been a coincidence.

We went after watching Hedwig & the angry grinch and when we got there we were disappointed that the rooftop was closed (it was 11pm on a Friday) but decided to stay anyways for drinks and dinner. I had a great salad and as the minutes went by the place started to fill up. We loved it though we could not see the rooftop!

First night in NY we decided to eat at Tavern 29, our waitress was great even managed to squeeze our drinks order into happy hour, our food was amazing and service was great with a lovely atmosphere, nothing was too much trouble for our waitress (can't remember her name, sorry). Decided to call in again a few days later and how different an experience (different waitress) moody, couldn't careless whether I serve you or not attitude, in the end we decided not to stay after our first drink, however as previously stated the food is good here, not a huge choice but what they did, they did good. Shame Miss Moody spoiled it for us on the last visit otherwise it would have been 5 stars Tavern 29

Nothing like a quaint little English pub close to your hotel where you can grab a good beer and watch a game.

We visited mid-afternoon and later the same evening but during a quiet day in the run up to New Year. Nice size bar, intimate but comfortable. Decent selection of beers and standard pub grub. Friendly staff

This was a perfect venue to meet with friends and family. It was energetic yet the noise level was reasonable. The drinks and food were exceptional and the bartenders/servers could not have been more accommodating.

Only went here for drinks with friends, however, it had a really good lively atmosphere and the mulled cider went down well

Friendly service and an impressive long list of beers available. But - they forgot the pilsners! An oversight but is needed!

We went for Sunday brunch, hoping to enjoy the rooftop terrace. Unfortunately, it was very windy up there, and we didn't get a lot of sun because the buildings around are so much higher than the terrace. The staff was not very attentive to us, they seemed to be cold and were mostly keeping to themselves. The food was ok. Maybe the ambiance would have been better in the evening.

I enjoy Tavern 29 for the occasional business lunch and cocktail hour. It is not all that exotic, not all that unique, but it is dependable and you are able to visit.

We went to Tavern 29 for lunch and sat on the rooftop patio. The vibe was fun and the crowd was a younger. The food was great when we got it. It took them an hour to bring out one buffalo chicken salad and two plates of Kobe beef sliders. They never checked back with us to see if we wanted a drink or give us an update on the food. It was hot on the patio with no shade or breeze so if it a sunny day it can be almost too hot to eat.

I was looking for a good beer selection close to my hotel. A colleague and I went to Tavern 29 as it was right across from my hotel. The beer menu was well thought out, but not overwhelming. the staff was extremely knowledgeable with great recommendations. I will go back.

Considering NYC prices $15.00 for a burger & fries is pretty good. The burgers were good not acceptional. The beer prices were about $8.00 I thought again were fair & plenty to chose from. But the server was not attentive & made mistakes when they weren't even busy. She couldn't get the beer order right.

Only had a little time between events but wanted a beer and a quick bite to eat. Great Beer selection and friendly staff. Fun crowd and lively environment.

We flew into LaGuardia, took a cab into the city and met our daughter here. You have to check in on the ground floor and be admitted to the rooftop. Tavern 29 is sandwiched between two higher buildings. Tables are picnic style so you might share a table. We had drinks and the lobster mac n cheese which was very rich and delicious! We probably should have split an order because of the generous amount of food and the fact that it was so rich! No room for dessert but they looked wonderful.

It's a beautiful pub, located near our hotel, the redbury hotel! The thing I'm sorry about is not finishing my California Sandwith. Next time I hope to enjoy it better.

When we went they pushed the rooftop on us. I should've gone up the three flights to check it out first. It was open air but more of a German beer hall setting. You're crammed into tables with benches. Very uncomfortable. Bar food is on the menu. Just stay for a drink while you plan on somewhere else to go for dinner.

Good food; generous drinks; and pleasant staff! Big screen TV's for sports enthusiasts indoors. A small terrace for limited outdoor seating.

We recently enjoyed a great dinner and a few beers after spending the day in the city. The Sixpoint Sensi IPA and McKenzie's Cider Reserve matched perfectly with the burgers, fries, margarita flatbread and calamari...and the best part was getting a growler to go!

Hi I was staying at The Redbury, just a couple of doors down from Tavern 29, in mid May. I dropped into the Tavern for a couple of beers one evening. It was quite attractive inside and the atmosphere was laidback. The young lady behind the bar (shoulder length blond hair) was very nice and as I was not sure what to have, she suggested I try a sample of a brew..before buying. Just wanted to say sorry that I didn't leave a tip. I wasn't being a tight sod, but simply forgot and being English it is not something we do. PS The French fries a.k.a chips were okay.

Just arrived in NYC at the hotel, Redbury. Very hungry. Decided to walk less than 1/2 block to Tavern 29. The bartender Joe was very welcoming. Sat at the bar for lunch. Excellent service, friendly servers. I had a Greek salad with 1/2 grilled chicken breast. The salad was awesome. Chef threw on extra Greek olives without me requesting them. I love Greek olives. I will definitely return again when I'm in the city. Afternoon happy hour is also a plus.

In an area of more than enough taverns, this by far separates itself from the rest. Great service, great drink specials, and great food. Looking forward to going back and enjoying the rooftop!

Beautiful suntrap rooftop, great in the good weather. Burgers were great as were the fries, and happy hour drinks were lovely too. They were a little understaffed so service was a bit slow but the staff there were very apologetic and kind.

I enjoyed the rooftop bar, service was good , not much choice for Wine and my draught beer was a bit flat.

A really cool bar for a quick bite, before heading out on the town. Great rooftop bar as well with an awesome selection of beers. Service tends to be a little slow at times, though.

We flew in late for our trip to NYC, made reservations here (which we probably didn't need, but were being safe). Had a upstairs/outside section that we did not see, but was closing at 10 on Thursday night. We had a few beers and waitress, maybe bartender, made a requested French 75 that was perfect. Wife ate the tavern burger with truffle fries, both were great!! I had the cheesesteak with salad and also as great! Would return if we needed a place for food and drinks. My only problem was sitting in the booth I closed UNDER the stairs...as expected, heard everyone going up and down the stairs. Service was great!!

Sat in a dark cubicle and the lightbulb was out and no replacement could be found. Not even a candle. My cheeseburger arrived lukewarm ( but properly cooked), but no catsup was served with it, so by the time this arrived the food was cold. I was then charged for a beverage I did not order. So all in all, not a great experience. I specifically went there because previously I had a great burger there and was really in the mood for one yesterday. Not sure I will return even though it is a block from my office.

Sunday brunch - we waited 15 min. for table on outside upper deck and it was worth it; up 2 flights of stairs, dining was on picnic tables shared by other diners but it was not awkward; we ordered crab cakes with poached eggs (crab cakes were a little bland), old school burger - delicious and cooked perfectly, and ample fresh greek salad. We also enjoyed the mimosas. Tuesday lunch - seated inside charming bar area with tin ceiling; ordered old school burger (again delicious), experimented with the Elvis Burger special - burger with bacon, and peanut butter and it was fabulous; and black bean and quinoa burger, delicious. we enjoyed our 2nd meal as much as our first; casual atmosphere, great food, nice servers

i think that for a bar its pretty nice. the food was average. the staff not really attentive. the bathrooms looked like a park bathroom (eww) will i be back? no should people come here? yes, great location.

A friend of mine visits Manhattan with work every couple of months andhe was the one who told me about Tavern29. I'm so pleased he did! It looks pretty nice from the outside and inside has a lovely feel to it. Very friendly bar staff and great cocktails!

We had a group of four who enjoyed watching the 2017 Super Bowl in this great local bar. Food was good as was the selection of beverages. Friendly service from Allie was outstanding. Worked out perfectly for us as did the Super Bowl for fans of the NE Patriots. Cheers!

We went there as a family because next to our Pension. We were very well received. Quality food for the Award. Super good fries, a pretty nice setting. The only downside is the music a little loud, but we did not mind going 3 nights during our stay.

Stopped in before a rock band gig across the street. Super nice and prompt service. Kobe sliders are the best burgers I've had in a long time. Rare, tasty, smooth, soft, carmelized onions, potato bread, aioli sauce out of a dream. Amazing. And the house draft beer was PERFECT. Nicest staff in the world too. Fan freaking tastic. Please support this place and don't change a thing. I want to die here, with burgers and beer in my coffin. Can that be arranged?

Stopped in for a quick lunch on a weekday. Good burger, very good fries and friendly service. Good setup with TVs showing various sports games, etc. A nice low-key pub.

We revisited Tavern 29 while staying at a nearby hotel (the Redbury) Years ago I had an unforgettable salad here: baby kale, beets and avocado. That one was gone but other delicious salad options have emerged. Chose fried buffalo chicken wing salad with gorgonzola and loved that too. The burgers and parmesan fries are excellent as well but the salads are standouts. Hope they keep the chef - or the techniques! The place itself is charming. We sat in one of two cozy alcoves off the entrance way that were lined by red banquettes and had two small tables in each. There was a tin roof (or something resembling one) and a lot of dark wood around a classic old bar. Love this place.

We came here for my birthday off of a recommendation. We reserved a table for 8 people at 7:00 PM. We were stuck in major traffic, and when we called to tell them we were going to be late, they said it was not a problem. It was not crowded at all, but we liked that it wasn't. We got a table on the second floor. A couple of my friends ordered a Hefeweizen from the first floor bar. I wanted one as well, and the waiter told us they have different taps upstairs and downstairs. However, our waiter was so accommodating. He kept going downstairs to get it for us, and half the group was drinking the Hefeweizen. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share at the table, and mostly everything was surprisingly delicious! The mac 'n' cheese with pulled pork was yummy, the buffalo dip was tasty, and the sliders were awesome! We weren't impressed with the flatbread pizza, and the truffle fries weren't anything special, but we still finished everything. There was a dj playing music all night. We like music that is fun to dance to but not electronic/techno dance music. We really loved the music the dj played all night! Just fun and laid back. We definitely want to come back again and check out the rooftop when the weather gets nicer.

Had a really good peach beer, cold and refreshing. Fun rooftop in a super cool old building. Great service. Didn't try the food but it looked great.

My wife and I went to this bar last night at 9.30 pm to be met with complete apathy by the two bar men. They weren't busy, no one else required serving. One was trying to hit on a customer, the other trying it with another member of staff, After standing at the bar for 10 minutes we decided to leave and found a great little bar on East 28th called Churchills with great service. If I could I would have given no stars.

Head all the way up to the roof for a feel of old time New York and great atmosphere. Fun, fast, friendly service at reasonable prices. Just a good time.

With the seemingly endless options to choose from when we first arrived in NY, my girlfriend and I were looking for a nice bar to have a drink and get some food. This was good bar food. We had the buffalo chicken dip, truffle fries, and mac and cheese. It won't disappoint if you have limited and want to stay close to the area where you're staying.

Visited NYC with 2 girlfriends and were staying at the hotel next door. We happened to notice a rooftop bar next door, so we popped in to check it out. It was a Sunday brunch menu and so delicious! Good brunch drink specials as well. The ambiance was great on the rooftop! Staff were great as well!

This bar was right next to our hotel and we arrived in the evening so went there for convenience. We were very pleased that we did- it was excellent. Lots of different beers were on offer - we had a very fruity one. We then shared a Margarita Pizza 🍕 platter - it was yummy

Sophisticated pub fare, with some tasty healthy choices. Highly recommend the crab cake salad! Though my husband's burger was great too! Nice selection of beer. Friendly atmosphere, excellent service.

After a long day of touring, we stopped in around 10pm for a lite dinner. We enjoyed our salads and drinks. The salad combinations/options were varied and the ingredients were very fresh. Great, fast service. Music was loud (Bar scene).

Last minute decision to go with some hot and grumpy family for food. Staff were lovely and friendly, very relaxed (although not busy) and food was fine. Highlight was the American sport on the TV which included diving dogs. Well what a way to cheer everyone up! Should have that on every night!

I had a seat at the bar and ordered a couple of the smaller dishes. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the food, which arrived quickly, was excellent. Tavern 29 was exactly what I hoped for: a warm, lively, well-run bar, good for a couple of beers and a bite to eat.

Huge selection of good beers around the world and good food in a nice atmosphere, what else do you need? Oh, and the price level was nice,too...

I stopped by here for a late afternoon brunch to catch the football games. I walked in and was seated right away. The decor was really cool and it looked like a very fun bar. I had the eggs benedict with some fresh oj. The food and service was great! Definitely recommend this place for a brunch spot or to meet up with friends!

I'm writing this only to inform that the vast array of quality on tap options is only available at the 1st floor bar. And a great selection it is! Every listing contains where the brewery is and the ABV. Servers are very knowledgable, the bar is old fashioned attractive, and the crowd (on a Wed evening) was lively but not too raucous. The 2nd floor is a little quieter and only had about 6 beers on tap.

Popped in on a whim to grab some lunch and wait on a business appointment and it was the best choice I made all day. A small, cozy pub atmosphere, the staff is friendly and takes service excellence seriously. I had two “starters - the deviled eggs and California flatbread. Both were fabulous and unique. The theme is wood fired grilling and they do it to perfection!!! While the choice of Tavern 29 was lucky happenstance - it was the best choice you could make for lunch, dinner, drinks or just a social place to meet friends and family.

Went here for food whilst on holiday in New York - great service and good food. The rooftop is a bit scruffy - nicer ones available.

My husband and I both got a flight of beer. There is a decent amount of choices. The beer was very good. We got an order of Parmesan truffle fries to share, with homemade ranch. The fries were absolutely amazing. There is a decent variety of bar food to choose from. If the weather is nice, make sure you enjoy the rooftop. The staff was super friendly. We would stop by again.

Our last night and the hotel we were staying in upset us do we visited this eatery opposite our hotel. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. You can eat inside or outside on the roof where you share long tables with benches. We had been watching the roof restaurant from our room over 6 days and it s very popular and open on Sundays. The food is good and we left very happy.

Went here for lunch one Friday. I got the tavern burger medium rare with a side salad. The burger was cooked pretty much perfectly, very large and juicy. Side salad was a little skimpy, but overall, pretty good. They have a great selection of draft beers. Bartender was great and let me sample a few before I made my choice. This was important since the beers are pretty expensive...as is everything in this place. I truly enjoyed my lunch, but a burger and 2 beers shouldn't be $35.

Found this great NYC Bar with fab atmosphere and brilliant food & service. The Waiter was really friendly & informative and gave us some great tips for our stay in NYC... I’m a Englishman in New York 🎼👍

The owners of this place really need to employ better servers. Ours, Christopher, only had a few covers but seemed way more interested in chatting to the girl behind the bar. We were sat for nearly 15 minutes before he decided to end his conversation and take our order. He then checked on us within seconds of our food arriving and didn't then check again. We were sat for a good 10 minutes with empty glasses. All the time, Christopher was enjoying a lovely chat with the bar girl. The food here is excellent. Huge portions, well prepared and very reasonably priced. We tipped 15% but only because we figured the tips are pooled and it's only Christopher who fell short. Had he served us promptly, he would not only have got the full 20% but we'd have been able to have two rounds of drinks rather than one. Note to the management, that is $16 extra revenue on a 2 cover table and note to Christopher, an extra $3.20 tip at 20% Great venue, great food, poor service. Get the service right and you get a 5 rating from me.

Very friendly staff and good beer and drinks. The rooftop is awesome. We had a great time there. Highly recommended.

We were staying at the Gansevoort Hotel across the street and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. The rooftop area is full of large picnic tables and the weather was perfect. That's pretty much where it ends...we both ordered the Hangover Burger and fries. The bread was very soggy, and even though the burger was large and packed with ingredients (including a fried egg) it was essentially flavorless. The fries were larger cut, saturated in oil and mostly stuck together in one large clump. We also ordered bloody Mary's, which were a bit watered down with melted ice by the time they arrived. One of the female servers was literally standing beside us talking at full volume to other guests about her "hating people from Texas"......yes, I'm from Texas and did address it with her in a polite way. I travel to NYC very frequently and absolutely will not visit this establishment again. Food-bland, Drink-watered down, service mediocre at best. The positive: the person downstairs at the entrance was extremely friendly and inviting.

Love the rooftop...fun casual and friendly...excellent burgers..the rest of the food seems a little eh.. solid drinks. .smaller pours of beer... overall a good fun place for basic evening or afternoon hang..

We found this place when we were desperate for a much needed drink. We were headed somewhere else but passing by this place took our fancy. Prices were good and atmosphere fantastic on a cold Friday evening. The place was crowded and felt upbeat rather than cramped. We didn't but food looked interesting…served on wooden platters. Very pleasant way to spend an hour indeed.

Early week, early dinner with husband in this clean and cozy spot with a cool personality. Has the cool vibe of a bar and food and service of something more. Grilled cheese and tomato soup took the edge off a cold March day and the entree salad so fresh n tasty. Nice craft drafts and simple wine list to add to the taste.

We went with another couple to brunch here last Sunday and we loved it! It was dark, warm, and cozy on an extremely freezing morning. The brunch menu was great. We had fried chicken biscuits and burgers - both were delicious. They also have a 2-hour bottomless mimosa, bloody mary, and pilsner deal for $25, which we couldn't have since we were driving home, but lots of people there were having that and we were jealous! I loved it here and wished we could've relaxed and had a few more drinks before leaving.

Went there with a large to their bar on the second floor. Place is great for large gathering. I loved the duck quesadilla there. the drink menu was ok... not the best, but good.

Was invited to a Christmas Party at Tavern 29. Nice cozy atmosphere with a rustic kind of setting. The party was held upstairs, together with another smaller group sharing the other side of the floor. The good was good and do was the drink. Even thought the bar was open, there were several servers making their rounds at regular intervals on the floor. Overall service was very good and would definitely recommend.

This place was 2 doors down from the hotel we stayed in and we only went to it as it was raining really bad when we left to go find some where to eat. We where not disappointed at all we both had the steak sandwich our steak was cooked to perfection and was really tasty. The staff made us feel welcome and the atmosphere was perfect.

i walked in at 3:30 PM Sunday to find out they still had a brunch going on. I had the 2 egg omelette with side salad and it was fabulous. They put the salad on top of the omelette and was seasoned just right. I never thought to eat an omelette this way. The ice tea was free ( maybe had to do with the brunch?). The staff was friendly and the music was good , even though a tad bit loud.

Went with a good friend to catch up. When we made the reservation we thought this was a restaurant and not a bar so shame on us. We were seated right away on the 2nd floor. It was very loud. The upstairs bar was a party scene compared to downstairs. Both were loud. Not the best scene for a quiet conversation. We did not see the roof top nor were we offered to sit there. Food was mediocre. We both ordered burgers which reminded us of a frozen TV dinner meal. Fries were good. We only ordered water as they did not have Sangria, which is fine. We didn't know what to expect. A close friend told us she had a great time for dinner so we took a chance. The server was kind and quick. Food took a long time to come out. Would only recommend to come and drink definitely not for food.

Everything was great. From booking this event extremely last minute, Daphne was amazing at organizing everything with such ease and professionalism. This was our first event there. The place was beautiful, food was delicious and the staff went above and beyond. Highlights were the Veggie Burgers (Best I've ever had), Fry Platter, Sushi Platter and any of the sandwiches. A huge thanks to FeFe, she made the day even better with her wonderful personality and ease behind the bar. Everyone that attended has complimented her and Tavern 29 as a whole. Thank you again and we look forward to booking again in the near future.

Not very experienced with NYC brunch scene, but enjoyed this very much. All you can drink bloody mary, mimosa, or beer and you can have all three at once. Our waitress was very nice and gave us full pitcher right before the cut off time, which was very nice of her. The food was also delicious. We had a great burger, though it was a bit messy, and also a very nice pizza, though that was a bit heavy on the cheese for our taste.

I came here with a party of 6, and we requested to be on the rooftop spot. We had booked out seat in advance, which I recommend you do just in case. Our server was really friendly and attentive. Half of us got bottomless brunch (+$25 to your food) and the other half just ordered drinks as they wanted. I ordered the breakfast biscuit stack which had fried chicken on biscuit, sausage gravy, fried egg, and crispy bacon. It also had cubed potatoes and peppers and onions. It was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a nice spot in the city, I would highly recommend going here. They have big fans up there to keep you cool, or they offer you a space in the shade if you get too hot.

Had the occasion to meet a West Coast colleague staying down at the Carlton Hotel at 88 Madison. Since his only available time was Sunday, I hunted around on the Internet and found the Tavern 29. Photos and menu were inviting and it was barely a block walk from the hotel. We entered around 1PM on a Sunday and found the place packed with an energetic younger crowd. A waiter greeted us, a young Irish lad with Dublin roots (a city I have visited more than once). He, as it turned out, was the best part of our experience. He found us a comfortable table in the rear and attended to all our needs for the ensuing two hours. I picked stuffed French Toast from the Brunch menu and my friend a Turkey Burger. He is a wine connoisseur and was strictly pedestrian but he had a glass of two or three varieties which he enjoyed. List seemed more than adequate. I stuck with coffee. My portion would have been better served if Challah Bread or similar had been used but it was delicious and unique and covered with plump, fresh blueberries. All in all, a good stop and our waiter made it all the better.

First time here was this weekend and it was AMAZING. Everything was fantastic. The popcorn shrimp may have been the best thing I have ever ate. The margarita pizza was a table favorite as well. The presentation of everything was great as well. 5 stars!

Met here for drinks after work on a weeknight and the place was happenin! Convenient location, very nice decor with lots of wood and pretty chandeliers. Tavern, yes, upscale, yes! Great beer list, but my one complaint: skimpy pours of wine. Service was excellent.

we came to Tavern 29 on a Saturday and it was full and lively quiet noisey and was more filled with younger crowds so ended up sitting at the bar, it would be okay if it wasnt just full of kids but maybe it was a one off .

The rooftop eating area got a bit windy but it was still nice and unique in the city. The food was very good. But be careful about the sodas - no free refills!

Cool rooftop and nice waitresses. Directly across from our hotel so it was an easy choice. Truffle parm fries and lobster roll were tasty. Also hard rootbeer floats!

We were here last night night. The rooftop bar was hoppin'. It's a mini NY version of a Munich Oktoberfest Biergarten. Fun atmosphere. After drinks on the rooftop, we had dinner in the well appointed tavern on the first floor. Great atmosphere. The food was excellent! We would go back! Also, a great value.

My husband and I enjoyed dinner here during our Christmas trip. Staff were great........attentive and helpful. The food was plentiful and very tasty, try the fries or sweet potato fries........best we have eaten in a long time. Good drinks menu too.

This place is pretty awesome! Took some friends there for a Sunday Brunch ... And we had a very good time !!! - rooftop area is perfect for an outdoor boozy Sunday ... Food was tasty... Bloody Mary's kept flowing ... Our server was very accommodating and always making sure everything was fine. I definitely recommend Tavern 29

As soon as you enter the bar, you feel like you are way outside the "big city". Dark wood gives it a very warm cozy feeling. They have a large variety of hamburger options, and an even larger variety of specialty craft beers. There is an upstairs patio on the 3rd floor as well. This is a great alternative to a crowded bar, or an expensive restaurant experience.

This was a very positive dining experience and well worth a visit, friendly staff and very reasonably priced.

Stopped here around 1:00 on a Friday afternoon. Waited a few minutes for a table to be cleaned. Clean, friendly pub. From what we saw it isn't very big, yet it seemed roomy, if that makes any sense! They didn't squeeze in too many tables for the space is what I mean to say. There are two cute little private rooms at the front that would be fun. A sign mentioned an outdoor bar that was being renovated the day we were there, so that might be something to check out on a nice day. The Tavern Burger was very good and juicy and just the right size, at least for me! To others it may seem a bit small. We tried the sweet potato fries and Parmesan fries; both were average.

Really enjoyed visiting this Tavern. Mixed clientelle and nice staff. Good choice of wine and beer with comfortable seating. Quite small but adds to the atmosphere. Check out the outside space upstairs!

Excellent food, the bar staff were extremely attentive, especially Peter and Leo. They served with a smile and took an interest in why we were in NY.

Great atmosphere, loved the drinks, pretty good service for a busy bar/lounge. Loved the "hidden" tables!

What a hidden gem! I chose this place for myself and 3 coworkers. It was a stones throw from our hotel "the redbury". After ready the reviews on yelp, do I have to try the hangover burger. Everything that we ordered was absolutely fantastic. You will not be disappointed in the truffle fries or the hangover burger. If you can enjoy the rooftop dining. You truly get to soak in New York City.

Great place across from the Gansevoort Park Hotel.. Beers where great food and staff wonderful!!! Amazing roof top!

I was probably a little old to be here but it had a good groove and I was well looked after. I had the hangover pizza which was excellent along with a coupld of different white wines. Would happily go there again. The trouble is its in NYC and you want to try them all.

This is, as other reviewers have noted, a pretty good happy hour bar. They have a good selection of beer and a well thought out wine selection. The oysters were fresh, and an appetizer of jalapeno guacamole was pretty tasty. One member of the party had the scallop salad and was very happy. The downside: Truffle fry accompaniment was never delivered. The ahi tuna salad was inedible (grey, cold tuna - really gross and disturbing that they actually decided to serve it in broad daylight - it was unprofessional and couldn't be interpreted as an oversight). The biergarten (very nice) on the third floor has no bar, so on a crowded evening servers have to run up and down three flights of stairs for anything that isn't beer, which takes awhile. This sort of sets them up to fail. Our server couldn't have been nicer, friendly and professional, but the place is not quite up to par. It also isn't cheap, our bill (one salad, 1 dozen oysters, guacamole, 4 beers and 3 glasses of wine was over 140.00 and we did not get charged for the bad salad). Overall, we might give it another try, but definitely avoid the ahi salad. This was so bad that it overshadowed the whole meal.

Nice décor and ambiance, good service, something for everything on the menu. Really enjoyed the prosciutto and arugula flatbread, tastiest I've had. Beer selection was great, though a bit pricey at $10 per. Nice dinner option, seemed to be popular with locals.

I had a great 6 day visit to New York and visited a few pubs, sampling many great craft beers. Tavern 29 has a great beer menu, great food, and nearly great staff. I visited, however, as the pub is listed on the Premier League website as one showing matches. Out side, the pub advertised the Manu Spurs game. The game was shown but without commentary. I had to listen to 2 hours of loud music. So, a great pub, but not if you want to enjoy a football match.

Nice place to have a drink in the early evening. Good service at the bar and tvs around. Pleasant atmosphere

To be honest I was slightly disappointed, this was partly down to how quiet it was but that was down to us and the day we chose to visit so I am not factoring that into my review but just be aware Sunday's are very quiet here based on when I visited. The reason for the review not being full marks is that we were greeted by a member of staff who rather than saying hello said 'I.d please' which I thought came across as rude. Also despite it being very quiet the service was the slowest we experienced in the whole time we were in NYC, it was well staffed but they were often just chatting. The food was good though and so were much h drinks and essentially that is what matters.

Sat on the rooftop bier garden which was very nice. Service was fast but uninformed about their menu. Brat and sauer kraut were tasteless and the potato salad (Prussian style) although tasty equal 2 teaspoons. You can get better brats for half the price from a food cart

If you're tired of the uppity rooftops teeming with Murray Hill bros and bankers, Tavern 29 is just the place for you! My friend and I found this hidden gem to be refreshingly charming and unpretentious, complete with a wait staff that went out of their way to make us feel right at home! Fe Fee was very down-to-earth, always mindful to keep the drinks flowing, and checking in with us after the food arrived to ensure we were completely satisfied with each course. She also recommended we sub out our fries for a side of parmesan truffle fries - and they did not disappoint! Tavern 29 had a very homely feel to it, in large part because it seemed to be converted from a 2-story townhouse into the bar, restaurant & rooftop that it is today. Having three floors, it seemed like an ideal choice for a casual get-together with friends for a few rounds of beer, or perhaps even a private event encompassing one, two or all three of the floors! On the rooftop itself, there was a beautiful brick wall on one side, giving the place a very rustic feel. There's not much of a view - but you can tell that before you walk in the door. It's a 2-story building surrounded by taller buildings. But that's the beauty of it really - being somewhat tucked away makes it perfect for locals looking to avoid droves of tourists! The wooden picnic-style benches cemented the feeling of a genuine tavern in the heart of NYC. Although we couldn't pass up a bottle of rose this visit, I think we'll have to sample a few of their beers the next time around! All-in-all, we really enjoyed our lunch hour there, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the early afternoon. A wonderful place to unwind and enjoy some delicious comfort food. Cheers! We'll be back soon!!

The service was fantastic. I liked that they brought bread at the beginning with a delicious garlic paste. The buffalo wings were pretty good, the gnocchi was quite tasty, and the burger did the job. All was reasonably priced and they had a good beer selection. I wasn't blown away but I would go back. It was all around very good.

Omg. Fab Kobe sliders w truffle fries. Arrived super early for lunch 11:15 am before hitting the NYC shopping scene. The bartender looks like Chads brother from the Bachelor. A definite must stop.

We had just got married the day we visited Tavern 29 and we're really hungry as we were also due to fly home that night. We were not disappointed, it was yummy. The sweet potato fries...... delicious!! We had them with a steak sandwich which was also scrumptious! Staff are really friendly and we're congratulating us on our marriage. We sat in a lovely little booth and it felt really intimate. This is one place you must visit for food!

I had two beers and a calamari appetizer. I sat at the bar and the service there was friendly and quick. The calamari was good with two different sauces. I will have to go back for a full meal and will report back.

A sport bar with a good range of tasty beers and good food.We had trouble understanding the baseball on TV but the barman/waiter was an excellent source of informed advice, and I think we learned more from him than from attending a match, which we'd intended to do. Nice and close to our hotel (The Redbury), too. As elsewhere, friendly and obliging service.

This was my first time at Tavern 29 and it was for a business lunch. This restaurant seemed to offer a good menu selection but the music was way too loud. Although the restaurant was almost empty (maybe because you walk in and your ears are assaulted...) it was hard to hear at the table. We were subjected to hard rock with lots of drums and occasionally lyrics laced with offensive words. When I asked our server to please turn down the volume she said it didn't go any lower. I find that hard to believe. When I asked the manager the same thing, he said he would lower the volume but did not. My falafel pita sandwich was a bit too heavy on the mint but did offer a limp green salad to go along with it. Return? No. Spread the word? Yes.

Burger was pretty good, nice atmosphere and service - aircon was welcome in mid July. Worth noting that the roof terrace was only for 21 and over if youre travelling with kids.

Ok.. We were promptly seated upon arrival of our reservation. Promptly served mimosas for our Sunday brunch. The mimosa refills were generous and flowing and we never felt rushed. My medium burger was cooked to perfection. There’s nothing I could fault about this establishment. The rooftop is kind of small but my company and I enjoyed ourselves.

Passed by here several times and decided to go in for a drink. Met at door and asked if I had a reservation which was a no. Asked for ID. My passport was in hotel room safe, so that was also a no. This was my fifth day on holiday here and never been asked for ID anywhere and being 65 years old was obviously over the legal age for alcohol. The place was empty which is hardly surprising. Not impressed to say the least.

Tavern 29 definitely seemed like a great hangout spot for locals. My boyfriend and I dined here for dinner, kind of spur of the moment. He throughly enjoyed his meal, while I did as well but thought it was just average. He got the classic burger with sweet potato fries. The burger he mentioned, was outstanding! The sweet potato fries were dressed with some vinaigrette which I did not care for too much. Even though we just got a local beer and wine to drink, they were delightful too! Beyond the food and atmosphere, the service was spot on. Our server, Aaron, was great!

This fun little pub was down the street from my hotel and I needed a classic "bar food" lunch and their menu offered it up. The turkey club sandwich($15) was fantastic and would typically have been two or three meals on a plate but I was hungry and dominated it despite being asked if I wanted a box as I was up against the ropes in the 11th round. Kendra was great and took care of me, kept my water glass filled and a beer(Lagunitas Daytime IPA $7) in front of me. Things seemed fairly reasonable for the city and they have a third floor roof top which I didn't check out but sounds awesome.

This fun little bar/eatery is right fabulous. The atmosphere is warm and fun and they have the best burger I've eaten in NYC. Get there early though because it's a real hang for the locals and it gets crowded quickly!

Called in here for drinks on two separate occasions during our stay (we were staying at the hotel next door) and the girl behind the bar remembered us the 2nd time, which I thought was a great touch. The bar is great to call in just for a couple of drinks, they have a great selection of beers and cocktails, though had to ask for the wine list. We didn't have food in there but saw some coming out of the kitchen and it did look good. Would definitely go back here next time! :)

Delicious food, with a great menu. I had the beet salad and salmon and was very impressed. The atmosphere was charming and cozy, and the roof awesome.

We were wandering home from a jaunt around town and wanted to stop by someplace to watch the kickoff. Given the number of bars around town, it is difficult to pick one. We are glad we picked this one. This was not crazy sports-bar vibe but a nice, chilled out, old-fashioned vibe. Decent beer and wine selection. We didn't try any cocktails. We ordered the parmesan truffle fries but it was just blah. I don't know why they all do the coating for the fries. Fries are just supposed to be potatoes fried in oil not potatoes coated in something and then fried. Adding toppings later is okay. Even though the customer service at the bar was nothing to write home about, the hostess was nothing short of amazing. It was raining and she even gave me an umbrella to bring home. I might go back for a happy hour drink sometime.

We were staying nearby Tavern 29, and that's really the only reason we went in. First night: Saturday evening, we ended up sitting in the ground floor section, as the music on the second floor was just too loud. We had some food, which was pretty good. Service was OK - the female bartender was far more interested in bending forward in front of any male patrons to worry too much about great service. The second visit was the next afternoon - we sat on the roof terrace. Service can be a little slow, as the staff have to go back downstairs to get most drinks - but friendly/quick service. The third and final visit: we didn't even get a drink. We did order drinks eventually, and the female bartender said something about being on her own, and she wasn't ignoring us (I think in reference to taking so long for her to come to us in the first place). After waiting for ages for our drinks to come, while we watched all the other staff just milling about and our server was busy chatting to other customers, we decided not to waste any more of our time here. There's loads of bars close by, where they value your custom - we'll be sure to visit one of these in the future.

Nice pub offering a variety of food and drinks. Possibly one of best service in NYC. Our server, Victoria, was wonderful, very helpful and attentive with my son and me. Food was good, coffee horrible! New York type prices. Centrally located to Flatiron area.

Stopped into this awesome bar to have a night cap with a friend and ended up bringing 15 co-worker/ employees for drinks the next afternoon. When you walk in, there are 2 cute booths right before the standard bar begins. lots of bar stools and some 4 top tables. What you dont realize is that there are 3 more levels to this place and the ambiance and vibe on each floor is cooler than the next. If you get there when its nice out, they even have a roof deck!

This place was so so. The staff- particularly our server, wasn't very attentive. My salad had the hottest dressing and it was supposed to be a honey dijon. I couldn't taste anything. I didn't eat the salad. The waitress asked if I wanted her to do anything. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10+ years. You don't ask, you do. My prosecco was served to me in a small daiquiri glass. I should've known.

Have come here quite a few times during mine and my family's visit in New York. Very convenient as it is straight opposite the road to the hotel we are staying at. Food is very tasty (would recommend the Parmesan truffle fries for a snack) and drinks are reasonably priced. Great atmosphere in the evening with good upbeat background music playing. The rooftop bar is the added touch and we are very impressed with the service - waiter Stephen is very funny, chatty and attentive.

Found this place by chance. Very efficient and friendly service with advice on selection of craft beers. Lovely atmosphere. Nice booths for a quiet drink. Pleased we only ordered the "small" plate cheese and meat. It was huge! Give this venue a try nice inside.

Great relaxed bar with large beer selection and the sliders were the best - and Eleanor is an Egyptian goddess with a laugh to die for and smile that melts hearts

(Last visited 1/1/2023.) After celebrating New Year's Even in NYC, it's time to start the year off right, with mo' drankin'! Lol. We booked a brunch here at Taven29 because we loved it so much last time. Here's why! Atmosphere/Appearance: It's exactly a Tavern. They didn't lie in the name. Lol. Lots of light woods with a light, bubbly atmosphere. There are TVs behind the bar you can check out if you're here for a sporting event. Up front they have these super cute alcoves that you can sit in where you feel like you're separated from the rest of the restaurant. We sat here on our first visit, but at the bar on our 2nd. Service: I can't remember who took care of us either time, but we have never had an issue here, especially with having our bottomless mimosas refilled! Food: I've only had the wings here and I love them. Simple, straight to the point. The mimosas are also made to order so if you want light juice, just ask! We love that! Value: This place won't break the bank at all. Which is why it's so appealing. In conclusion, you'll likely see me here again! Make sure you check this place out if you're looking for a good brunch!

Great 'comfort food' , and an amazing value all-you-can-drink brunch on weekends. There is a nice 'neighborhood pub' atmosphere to it too - very helpful staff to top it off

We were looking for a place to pop into on the way back to our hotel and stopped in here. The night we were there, the host went out of his way to find us a spot, as the restaurant was hosting many Christmas parties. The decor was cool, laid back and the locals were friendly. The food (truffle fries and chicken quesadilla) were very good.

Really busy bar, lots of beer choice by draft. Lovely bison burger, tasty sweet potato fries. Waitress was fast and efficient, maybe a little too much! We were in and out quite quickly. Great atmosphere.

An establishment that refuses customers on the grounds that they do not have tables for one person, even though the place is half empty. For the warmth of the welcome, we will come back.

Love the bar and interior, but disappointed with the glasses in which they serve beer....all mugs! Not great, considering their beer selection is good and quite diverse. Food is ok...nothing great. Love the bar itsself....great decor and Jasmine the bartender is great. They could use another bartender, as she both tends bar and waits the lunch tables. Overall, a good find near Penn and never crowded.

My colleague and I stumbled upon this place after a meeting at the Empire State Building. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Kendra made us feel right at home and offered great suggestions on the food there and elsewhere for our trip. The truffle fries were amazing and the Burgers are great. It was an awesome spot for a quick bite and I'll definitely be back again next time we're in town.
Great NYC Bar with better than average bar food
Got here at 915 on a Tues night, the roof top bar was still open till about 10 with last call for food at 930 & last call for beer at 945 (just for the roof top bar). I had friends visiting from out of town so we rushed up to the roof top, our server was over to us quickly. Got our order in quickly and we got our food no problem. My girlfriend and I shared the quesadilla and the California Chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, the chicken sandwich was definitely something better than I expected. They had several types of beers on tap that are not your run of the mill beers (No bud, coors etc although perhaps they were just not on that beer menu) Several beers were made by Great South Bay. We were bar hopping so we didn't stay long but I would return. There was a TV outside on the roof top bar as well and lots of long tables with bench seats.
