Very good table, a little away from the hustle and bustle, do not hesitate to book because often full, the dishes are plentiful and the prices contained, for NY

Food is good, service is lousy

By Erik |

Food is good, service is lousy. Unfriendly waitress. Table was very small for four. No refill on the drinks, very dark in the corner of the restaurant.

Very tasty, but noisy.

By sien |

A nicely decorated place, tasty pizzas and quick, friendly service. The only downside: it is a noisy place. So not ideal for a quiet evening of dining out.

Delicious food, great atmosphere, fast friendly service

By Jo G |

We arrived with no reservation and they fitted us in even though it was a busy Friday night. Service was very friendly and fast without making us feel rushed. Atmosphere was upbeat and food was excellent. Risotto (specials*) especially! Pizzas very good - gluten free was no issue. Portion size was reasonable, not too crazy big. We were the only family (teenagers) there, so wouldn’t recommend for small children in the evening. Overall would definitely recommend! (*Specials change daily)

Mandatory tip

By Cristina G |

I went to this restaurant for dinner. The food is good but the prices are really high. Tax and tip (18%) have been added to the list prices. But shouldn't the customer decide whether to tip and how much, based on the service?!... moreover, having paid in cash, they told us they didn't have to give change.

What a magical place

By Moulinouch |

What a magical place, in fact, we are in NY not in Little Italy, but on 9th Street, near Time Square, and we find ourselves in Italy, the real one. The storefront is period, the neat decor of an old shop that one would find in Naples or elsewhere in Italy. On the ceiling, antique fans turn with belts connecting them to each other and with a single motor which probably dates from the 19th century. The welcome is on par with the rest, Italian, warm, open, smiling. The pasta is exceptional, the pizzas the same, large, generous, just like the mother prepares them. The prices are on par with taxes, NY is expensive, we know that.

Awesome Dinner!

By Ashley F |

Wonderful little spot for a great Italian meal. We were lucky to come across it as it was located near our hotel. My husband had steak and I had the in-house made pappardelle with mushrooms and veal ragu. Fresh ingredients, nice portion sizes, very authentic atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Tavola Highly Recommended

By christylsmith1 |

Tavola was recommended to me by a NYC-based food blogger. My husband, my mother-in-law and I had our pre-theatre meal there. I highly recommend making a reservation. We had a 5 p.m. reservation, and the place filled up quickly. The owner was turning away those without a reservation and sending them to his new restaurant just a few doors down. We enjoyed a very smooth bottle of red wine with a peppery finish from Montecarlo in Tuscany. Our appetizers were escargot with Sicilian salsa verde and marinated olives. Entrees were papparadelle with wild mushroom and veal ragu for me; spaghetti fruita di mare for my MIL; and whole wheat penne with salmon and a creamy pesto for my husband. We finished with the classic tiramisu. Everything we ate was fantastic. Our server took good care of us, and the owner was extremely friendly. I would visit this establishment again.

You must eat the pizza

By Gary G |

The space design is perfect for the food. I have been to many restaurants all over Italy and it is a rare day that I eat at an Italian restaurant in the US that rivals the best of Italy. If you love Neopolitan-style food - especially pizza you should come here.

Fine pizza

By Tristan W |

3 of the 5 pizzas were fairly burned. No idea if that was the reason but those pizzas also had a bit of a crazy star anise taste. That's why they deserve a pass. Friendly staff and a nice restaurant.

Delicious, affordable NY dinner

By pdxdebbe |

I've eaten at Tavola multiple times in the last few years, each time I visit NY for work. It feels like an authentic Italian restaurant on the edge of mid-town. An unexpected delight. Everything I've had here has been very good. Burrata, Orecchiette, Vongole, Lasagna and more. I'd love to try the pizza next time. The pastas are all a big size, the wine pours are generous. The owner is quite welcoming. It's a restaurant to return to for multiple visits.

Nice place!

By Sandra |

We came here on a weeknight without a reservation and were seated in one of the middle tables, which was just fine. I think the keep the tables along the wall for people with a reservation, but honestly - the middle tables were fine; you just might have to share with some other parties. Our server was friendly and the pizza was really good. Pretty good value, too. Overall it was great find!

No substitute for quality

Fantastic food prepared with the best of authentic Italian ingredients. Staff were friendly and attentive. Great value too. Can’t recommend highly enough. Slàinte from Scotland

Great service

By Julia |

Really great service and delicious pizza. Really busy on a Friday night which is always a good sign.

Our best meal in NYC

By Heather S |

Our hotel recommended this restaurant that was close by. I wish we had thought to make a reservation but we were seated at the bar. No problem. Waitstaff were incredibly attentive. We all loved our dishes but the pappardelle bolognese was out of this world. The aglianico del vulture was a smooth lovely red wine. 10/10 recommend for authentic Italian experience at NYC.

A relaxed pizza and pasta joint

By MikeAKL |

Walked in one evening for dinner. Friendly staff. Fast and efficient service. We didn't have a reservation so dined at the bar. Three of us had pizza. I recommend the Fig and Blue Cheese pizza. All pizzas had great flavours and were about the right size. Enjoyable house wine. Check out the ceiling fans!

Great place, new favorite place!

By Lauren Elizabeth |

I absolutely love Tavola! We are here on vacation and asked for a recommendation from our hotel down the block. We came here on a Sunday night and they asked for a reservation, which we did not have, but they seated us anyways. I ordered the Gnocchi with red sauce. It was easily the best gnocchi in the city for me. The sauce was fresh and the gnocchi was like a pillow. The others in my party shared a pizza and bruschetta. They had nothing but good things to say. We also got dessert. I ordered the Belgian chocolate espresso moose. The others in my party ordered tiramisu and Cannolis. All the food was amazing! It was so good, in fact, that we went back the next day! Again, I ordered the gnocchi but with an eggplant pesto kind of sauce. It was simply amazing! The others in my party got the Petto Di Galetto and pizza. We got desert again and I ordered the moose again while the others in my party got tiramisu and cheesecake. Also, the servers both nights were fantastic! They were very sociable and knowledgeable. The server from the second night even took the time to ask us about our lives back home and tell us about himself. Would definitely recommend to anyone!!!!

Great late night dinner

By robert m |

We arrived in NYC late, and after checking into the Crown Plaza they recommended Tavola. It did not disappoint. It was a fun laid back Italian dinner. Food was excellent. The atmosphere was wonderful. The staff was friendly and attentive. Great evening overall.

Authentic Italian

By LT_Dallas |

Good solid Italian food. Great restaurant to go to. Enjoyed the pasta as well as seafood. Great wine selection. Easy access to Times Square

Dr. Mike McCoy and Melissa McCoy Knoxville, Tennessee

By Melissa McCoy |

Immediately upon reading first Appetizer on menu, I knew this was an authentic Italian Restaurant. Very unlike the so called “Italian Fare” served by chain or most local Restaurants. You know those places.. right? They serve a ore measured portion of veal, chicken or beef on a bed of pasta. Sprinkling top with fresh Parmesan cheese, after cracking fresh peppercorns over your salad. The food is filling and for most part a value for its price. Tavola is a traditional, authentic, Sicilian Restaurant. It was purchased from original, multi-generational, owners in 2012. The new owner and chef are both of Italian descent and the proof is in the first bite of Veal Ragu our waiter, Julian suggested we try. Fresh mushrooms sautéed to perfection then added to the Veal Ragu which enticingly smothered the handmade, egg noodles. The texture and density of the pasta was perfect. The Ragu was a perfect complement for the buttery goodness waiting each strand of perfection. If that were not enough to send me into a coital coma, Julian brought freshly baked Italian loaves, that had been sliced to fit into the small stone pinch bowl of a refreshing spearmint colored, fresh pressed olive oil. The flavor of the oil (which they sell) was as refreshing as its unique color. The name of our dish was; “LASAGNA DELLA CASA with FRESH PASTA, BUFFALO MOZZARELLA, RICOTTA, VEAL MEAT SAUCE” which reminds me I failed to mention how the buttery flavor of Buffalo Mozzarella further enhanced the mushrooms and pasta flavors. We had no appetite left for dessert, but from what we saw being served to others, we will split a plate on our next trip, so we can enjoy the decadent looking cannolis. I would recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. It is truly authentic and the service received by Julian made our Christmas Eve dining experience twice as nice. We are bringing our daughter and grand daughter to New York for Christmas in 2020, and plan to have Christmas Eve dinner there again.

Mmmmmmmmmm.

By Sheila F |

Everything was so good. Wine, bread, picatta halibut and cannolis. The waiter said ciao bella as I was leaving which completed my evening. Very busy so make make reservations. The pizza looked amazing, ordering it on my next trip.

Great food and atmosphere

By Stevepfp |

Had a lovely meal here the day after Thanksgiving . Busy restaurant - super quick service ( A little too quick maybe?) Superb food - Meatballs - roasted veg salad - a beef pasta dish and a great pizza. Drinks were a little pricey but thats par for the course in NYC.... A lovely meal.

Nothing to get excited about

By Hammbrook |

Traditional menu with a Sicilian bent. Some individual tables for couples but larger groups seated family style at long tables. Unfortunately we found the calamari starter and the salmon and monkfish entrees somewhat bland. No oil on the table for dipping bread. Just OK; lacked any “wow” factor.

Fabulous

By KEG16 |

We hadn’t booked and the restaurant was really busy so we ate at the bar. We had seafood pasta, lemon chicken and pizzas. All fantastic. Superb service. Highly recommend.

Average try elsewhere

By Tpamart |

Tried this place after good reviews. On arrival friendly welcome However all down hill after that ,waiter more interested in chatting to colleagues ,had to ask for specials and water (which was luke warm) Food -I had lasagna just warm ,would say average nothing more Friend he had pasta which was tastless-how can they do this?? Never asked about meal,so missed oppertunity to complain No comment from waiter when we had left more then half our meals Would not recommend and will not return There are lots of far better Italian restaurants I suggest you give this one a miss

Below average

By jakobmikkelsen |

Wanted to go for an authentic Italian restaurant with decent reviews. Not knowing our itinerary we didn’t book in advance. We managed to get a small table near the entrance, meaning some traffic. We ordered spaghetti, which was extremely hot and a lasagna that was bland at best, both seemed microwave prepared. So a disappointing experience

Delightful and plentiful food - and great service!

By Traveler37 |

Was looking for good Italian food near Penn Station, and found Tavola on Tripadvisor. Great find! I was immediately escorted to the back room, where I could see into the kitchen, and seated at an ample table for two, in a nice comfortable chair. A lovely waitress appeared with the menu and delicious bread, then came back to tell me about the specials, which sounded irresistible. Split pea soup was divine, with chunks of smokey ham. The pasta special with shrimp was equally sumptuous, with plenty of large shrimp, perfectly cooked. For dessert, I was split between the cannolis and my eventual choice, tiramisu. Tiramisu was delightful, perfectly offset with bitter cocoa. The cappuccino reminded me of the ones I had in Rome! Overall, a great meal for a very reasonable price. The service was impeccable - dishes and implements appeared and disappeared as if by magic. Overall, a very pleasant, friendly vibe. Will definitely be back!

Outstanding and personable service!!

By Mella |

I can't say enough good things about this place! I first discovered this place by accident actually last fall. I originally ordered take out from another restaurant, but apparently that restaurant was closed that night. At this point I was pretty hungry and feeling frustrated, so I went to Tavola which was very close by and from the second I took a look at their menu, the manager, Rafael, struck up a conversation and really cheered me up! They were able to prepare the same meal that I ordered from the restaurant which was closed, and on top of that it was very quick and I left very happy. Rafael even came up with a nickname for me and offered me a free drink for all the trouble I've been through that night. I've walked by Tavola several times since I was heading in that general direction, and Rafael remembered me each time and my real name and nickname he gave me!! ❤️ I literally order from them at least 2-3x/week. This place is my go-to!!! AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING SERVICE, and good delivery too & prices 😊

Great Meal

By Gregg C |

Stopped in based on very table bing occupied. After a short 15 min wait I was seated at a small bar area...perfect for 1 person. I was greeted promptly and ordered the tagliatelle with a mushroom and veal ragu. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the ragu was very well prepared. I would strongly recommend Tavola

Great meal after the show!

By James |

This small restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel front desk staff as a nice place to eat dinner. It’s located on 9th Ave, about a 10-minute walk from the Theater District. Excellent lasagna, eggplant parm, and tiramisu. About $20/entree.

Wonderful restaurant

By Rebecca J |

Very nice place with amazing pizza and pasta. Many vegetarian options. The service was excellent and they are open quite late

Best gnocchi ever

By JDChab |

After a long travel day, with no reservation, we wanted a small, authentic feeling Italian New York restaurant and found it at Tavola. 3 of (adult and 2 teenagers) were given a tiny table next to the window. The menu has something for everyone. My teenagers love gnocchi and ordered theirs based on a promise on the menu that they were “lighter than clouds”. And they were! The best gnocchi that any of us have ever had. Another order of a margherita pizza was also quite yummy. Service was quick and friendly. Price was reasonable.

What to do

By olivier |

Very nice place beautiful decoration looks like Rome. Very friendly staff, excellent food and sufficient.

Highlight of NYC

By Lisahug |

Visited NYC twice in 2019 and both times visited this restuarant. The decor is typical New York/Italian, food to die for, wine variety great. I would recommend booking however, if you dont they will always try and assist. Forget Little Italy just go here you wont regret, its become a must visit when in NYC for me

Food was wonderful, 'patio' was not a great atmosphere

By LucyTay1995 |

We visited Tavola as it was close to our hotel and well reviewed. We hadn't made a booking which was our fault, so I would recommend booking this place. We were able to get a table in their 'patio', but this was a space in the road with a bike path in front of it. The tables were packed in here, so it felt like we were sharing a table with people next to us. However, that being said, the food here was really tasty. My boyfriend had the lasagne and I had a spaghetti dish, and they were both lovely. Our waitress was very good and attentive. I would recommend this place for food, but would recommend you get a booking inside.

Delicious & Authentic

By nathansgirl21 |

We were looking for some authentic Italian food and we found it. Their calamari was meaty and fried perfectly. The marinara sauce that accompanied it was soooo good! We also shared a tasty cheese platter and the lasagna. The lasagna had a great filling of cheese and meat. The sauce was very tasty and I’d order another piece if I wasn’t so stuffed!

Cute little Italian Place

By Kate I |

We stopped in here while walking around Hell’s Kitchen, it was super busy and it was still early, for NYC. Stopped in and sat at the counter. Had a beet arugula salad and a few pastas. The mushroom beef Bolognese was excellent with homemade pasta. We had the special risotto, scallops and asparagus. The scallops should have been seared more than they were, but maybe that’s my preference?? It was still a great dish. The bread at the table was just ok, not worth the calories or carbs. Our dishes were super late coming out, but the bartender redeemed herself by giving me a glass of wine on the house. I would totally recommend this place 100%.

Terrible steak.

By Joe W |

Lovely, authentic Italian place but the NY strip steak was literally a strip of inedible fat. My wife’s salmon was lovely though. Waitress just grinned when I told her and shrugged shoulders. Not impressed and very disappointing.

Good food but horrible service

By TheOrrs |

Food was good service was horrible. Took 15 minutes to even ask what I wanted to drink, and a bunch long to get even water to my table. Food was the same. Didn’t refill my water glass once and not ask for dessert etc. and then wanted a tip over 20 percent, I provided a custom tip to match the service.

Family trip

By Steven M |

Service was friendly and attentive. Food was great. Very family friendly. I recommend the pizza. The lasagna was good and the tiramisu was delicious.

excellent!!

By gc8533 |

Amazing, a friendly welcome, top service and amazing PECORINO CACIO E PEPE!! Everything is very good, for my daughters, the best lasagna!!

No mushrooms please

By HolBrut |

This restaurant was awful. The pizza is bland, the server never offers black pepper or grated cheese which was nowhere to be found. My daughter got the New York strip and it was smothered in mushrooms. She hates mushrooms. Nowhere does it say anything about mushrooms on the steak. She ordered well done, which I know a lot of restaurants won't even make, but the server assured her it was fine and the steak was pink.

Best Frutti di mare since Venice

By Beth R |

On the recommendation of our hotel concierge, I dined here with my husband while visiting NYC. I did call first to ensure we would have a table. Im glad I did. We ate early, but within minutes of our arrival the restaurant was full. It is not a very large seating area. The staff was very attentive and made perfect recommendations. Our meal was excellent. We shared the salumi plate to start. The meats were excellent and the olives, so tasty. I had the Linguine Vongole. My husband had the Frutti de mare. Both pasta dishes were excellent, and the sauces were complimentary without being overwhelming. The wine recommended for our dishes was perfect. We shared an order of cannolis for dessert. They were petit and also delicious. perfect for sharing a sweet bite after dinner. We will return on our next NYC visit.

Advised

By Marco C |

Excellent conclusion to a splendid albeit short New York holiday. Rustic place as they define it, but very very nice. Friendly and non-intrusive welcome, the girl who looked after us for the evening was very good. We ate well, pizza as it is made in Italy, quality cheeses and cured meats. Cheesecake, tiramisu and cannoli unanimously approved. The prices are not low at all for those arriving from Italy, but during the holiday we spent more and ate very badly in other restaurants, moreover the place is packed so the reason is on their side. Advised.

Italy in NYC

By bengam78 |

Very good Italian restaurant in New York. The pizza and their tiramisu are excellent. Staff is very friendly and the ambiance is very cosy.

Outstanding, first class service!

By Jim K |

Outstanding, first class service! Joel, our waiter, had a style and personality that can’t be beat. Pizza wine, and other menu offerings were fantastic! Authentic Italian wait staff were professional and exquisitely well trained.

Great food!!!

By usmboyzzz |

If you're looking for an authentic Italian restaurant with fair prices, this is the place. It's not one of the larger places located nearer to Times Square. But if you're looking for great food, this is your place. We tried a couple of larger, higher priced places which had good food. But none compared to Tavola. Everything we had was excellent. Pizza, pasta, cannoli's, cheesecake. oh my gosh. I'd go back tomorrow if I lived closer.

Fantastic choice for after the Show

By Colleen N |

What a great experience. We decided to go to Tavola on the recommendation of a friend who has lived in the city for decades and is a legitimate foodie. Not bougie foodie, but authentic delicious food foodie. I knew he wouldn't steer me wrong. I brought my niece and nephew, who are in their twenties. We tried the arancini, foccaccio, pizza, halibut and gnocchi. Each one was absolutely outstanding. We also tried the Sicilian Spritz and another spritz and enjoyed each one. Our server was fantastic. She never rushed us. I thought the price was more than reasonable (especially for NYC). I would definitely go back again in a heartbeat. It was a fun, casual atmosphere, but we could tell there were not only first timers, but long time customers in there. We were there early on a Saturday night, as we went immediately after a show. By 630 the place was packed, so definitely make a reservation if going on a weekend night.

Utterly misleading management - avoid

By sparkyrob |

Initial impressions were good - the server was very friendly and we got a table for 4 without booking. However, things went downhill soon after. We had asked if two friends - who had already eaten elsewhere and didn't need drinks - could join us. The rest of us were eating and paying an inordinate amount for doing so ($55 for a bottle of average wine is simply insane). The server said that this would be fine and they could sit with us. If we'd not had this option, we'd have gone elsewhere. Our friends came not long after we ordered and sat with us. Soon after our food arrived - pizza from a pizza oven which was fine, but nothing remarkable - we were told that the server had "spoken to her manager" and had been told that the other two would need to at least order a drink to stay. This was simply outrageous. The restaurant was half empty and getting quieter. I think they saw a chance to try and force our friends' hand and shake them down for money, despite the server's initial assurance that they could join us. The same server's friendliness disappeared as soon as she saw our faces. Our friends promptly left, and all that was achieved by a restaurant with overpriced food and drink and appalling attitude, is to encourage their practice to be called out publicly. We'd never return here, and we'd advise caution if you visit.

Charming traditional Italian Restaurant

By Andrew F |

This is a very popular Italian restaurant on 9th Avenue, we managed to get a table for 2 and we were amused and impressed by the old belt driven fan system on the ceiling. I'm not sure it was that effective, but it looked great! Unfortunately we weren't that hungry so opted for pizza, but they offer the full range of Italian dishes. The aranchini balls looked great. The owner and staff were very friendly and the pizza was pretty good. All in all a nice visit.

Delicious Italian in a great NY setting!!

By MidwestKathM |

Love this restaurant space! It's ambience with an airy spacious feeling during this time of COVID, in addition to some outdoor seating. It was early for dinner so we opted for a window table to enjoy both the street view and the traditional Italian trattoria with a bar, tin ceilings, marketplace shelves of pasta and olive oil and other Italian cooking needs. We could see that they have some regulars as the owner bantered with them. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Our water glasses were kept full. And our salad and pizza and Italian beer hit the spot. Really delicious Neapolitan-style pizza!!

Always Delightful!

By Georgesec |

I made it a point to have dinner at Tavola while in NY to work in late June. It is consistently my favorite Italian restaurant in the City. It was super busy yet the service was great. Their new to me Pinot Grigio was wonderfully flavorful and the lasagna was amazing! And Francesco is always the best!!!

The real Italiandeal

By WiseManTravels |

Love this place and so do a lot of others. Make reservations or sit at the bar if there’s room. This place and the employees have big personalities. Incredible menu and you can’t miss with anything. Great food , wine and bar selections.

Excellent, would go back

By Dave M |

Son that lives in NYC suggested that we all go to Tavola, he discribed it as a hidden treasure near the theatre district that he'd been to. My son, my wife and daughter-in-law all had the veal ragu dish and were extremely pleased with it (even my "1st generation Italian wife" ). I had the bricole which was tasty and tender. The service was attentive. Prices were in line with what you'd expect for NYC. You're not eating on linen table clothes, but it about the food anyway.

Cosy joint with delicious food

By a1exC |

Fantastically delicious Italian pizzas and pastas! Not too expensive and friendly service. The food was so heart-warming when we visited on a wet spring afternoon in New York.

great atmosphere great food

By Chris H |

4 of us were kindly fitted in to a very busy restaurant and enjoyed pasta and pizza dishes. The staff were friendly and fabulous. My pizza with figs and balsamic was mouth wateringly excellent

Succulent

By Basset |

Delicious pizza and pasta. Service a bit pressing not to say oppressive. Welcome mezzo to borrow an Italian term.

Delicious Wood Burning Oven Pizza

By Jessica B |

Had dinner here with my mom after getting into the city on a Thursday evening. We had a reservation for 8:30 pm, thankfully. The staff was very pleasant. The pizza was even better. The selection of wine by the glass isn't extensive but it was delicious. All in all a great meal.

Excellent Italian Restaurant Midtown

By JanieEllenSouthWales |

Visited twice on our recent family trip to New York. Excellent friendly service. Extensive menu and all food was delicious. Good selection of wines, particularly enjoyed the Sangiovese. Would definitely return.

Great quick service in a very cool venue.

By Twickerama |

We arrived with no reservation, having booked a hotel restaurant round the corner which wasn't serving food. Our Waitress was brilliant. We couldn't order a pizza as there had been a crazy storm and the pizza oven was out of service. However, the other menu options were great, so we didn't mind. Delicious wine (a special of the week), and speedy but not rushed service. The history of this place is incredible - the tin ceiling, the air con, etc. You feel like you're sitting in New York history. It was our last lunch in NY before flying back to London, and it was a perfect end to our holiday.

Thank you Doug!!

By Jody C |

Dinner tonight at Tavola with friend I haven't seen in years!! Arugula salad was great. Doug anticipated out every need without being overbearing. Thank you Doug!!

Average at best

By BradshawKb |

As visitors without a reservation we were lucky to get seated, the staff were very accommodating to find us a table. Our meal started off lovely, with calamari which was very tasty. Unfortunately the meal was disappointing after this. The pork was a cheap, flavourless meat and did not look appetising in the slightest. Not to mention this, there was barely anything on the plate. The pasta dish was drowned in the sauce and the pasta was under cooked, tasty hard and chewy. The only edible part of this dish was the salmon. We left feeling very disappointed with the meal we had been served.

Three with reservations served

By Jerry J |

Three with reservations served by Angel, a young man totally knowledgeable about his restaurant. 5* him. His wine recommendation for a bottle of Chianti after discussion of meal orders was right on. Appetizers were shared Mediterranean salad and Burrata. Tasty. Entrees: Risotto, Lasagne, Spinach/Chicken meatballs all had unique delicious flavors. Dessert was single order of cannolis = three finger size and were perfect. Service, atmosphere were outstanding just what we look for in NYC

Great little spot

By Reservoirgirl |

Great bustling Italian restaurant with friendly service. Reasonably priced for New York. Good standard of food. Would happily return.

The real deal

By The Aged Traveller |

We just happened across this restaurant on a walk and it was definitely the best meal we had in NY. Great service and fantastic pasta. We had the special of the day which was fettuccine with lamb ragu followed by tirimisu. Both delicious. Should we ever go back to NY this would be a must.

A taste of Sicily

By Denise R |

I thought I had good food before, but the food here was amazing. Great ambiance and great service. A must visit when in NYC. Definitely going back

Best Italian food we have ever had

By JSD47630 |

No kidding this is hands down the best Italian meal we have ever had. We were in New York for 5 days and ate here twice just to hit it again. Chicken was amazing; salmon was life-changing. Pasta was excellent. Simply amazing. Don't miss it.

Great for before broadway show

By Anne-Marie L |

Great service, very speedy, very handy for our hotel (Arlo Midtown) and just a few blocks from the broadway show we were seeing after. Greca pizza was delicious. One of our party eats gluten-free and this was handled no problem by substituting in gf pasta.

Great food and service

By KWong55 |

We were looking for a place that takes reservations at the time we needed to go before a Broadway show and Tavola fit the bill! We had Yelp reservations and our reservations was early enough that we sat at a community table that was divided by wooden boxes containing two bottles of water so it made our section more intimate since no one was sitting at the table with us when we were seated. We ordered the fried calamari to start and our server also brought pesto sauce and bread. We ordered two spinach fettuccine with chicken meatballs, eggplant pasta and spaghetti fruitti di mare. The spinach fettuccine was A-ok but the spaghetti fruitti di mare was humonguous with plenty of big shrimp, mussels, clams and calamari! For dessert we ordered two pistachio gelatos that was absolutely divine, inside a shell made of crushed amaretti, yum yum

Happy Traveler

By Robert D |

Excellent food and service! The wines are from the old country. We’ve been here 4 times over the past 4 visits to NY, and every time has been very good.

Authentic

By mariabarnes |

Friendly Angelina looked after us really well. We had two different pizzas which were wood fired. Both were delicious. Food came up straight away. Nice ambience.

Small, excellent Italian restaurant!

By matthew647 |

We were referred here from the Crown Plaza where we were staying. The bad news is they don’t seem to do anything off-menu. The good news is everything on the menu is delicious. The flavors are intense and well blended. I had the chicken romana. My wife had the papperdelle veal ragu. The pasta was cooked to perfection. The sauces were exceptional. Dinner was capped off with a cappuccino. The service was tops. Seating is limited so call ahead for reservations.

Good outside seating and superb service

By Amar Motivala |

Relaxing dinner after a hectic shopping spree in Manhattan. Very courteous waiter who immediately replenished the drink which spilled due to a shaky dinner table

Very good Italian Food!

By Nancy |

We felt already very welcome when we came in. Warm Italian hospitality! Armando was our waiter, he normally is the bartender but he replaced a sick colleague. We had delicious pizzas and the best desserts. The tiramisu from my husband is the best but my daughter now said that this waste best tiramisu she ever had. Good atmosphere, wonderful food!

Excellent Italian restaurant

By James D |

We were staying nearby at the Even Hotel on 35th St and noticed this restaurant on our way back to the hotel. A little research established the reviews were good so we decided to give it a try for our evening meal. This was a Wednesday evening and we were lucky to get seats at the bar, all other tables were taken with reservations. It is a very busy restaurant, very Italian and the food we had was excellent. The staff were friendly, service was good and the prices were average. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend trying it out.

Perfect pizza

By Brightspark2000 |

Recommended pizza restaurant by local friends. Delicious appetisers like burrata, salumi and fresh bread with peppery olive oil. Pizzas were superb, cooked in the wood fired oven and many combinations. Really busy and quite noisy, not a place for a quiet meal but very enjoyable buzz.

Thursday dinner

By Barneyq101 |

I have not been for a few years due to covid & travel issues. Great to see the restaurant full. Good energy & lively as us brits would say. Food very good. We had the salmon & chicken as mains. Starters good. Nice glass of Sangiovese with my chicken.

Delightful pre-theater dinner near our hotel. Old world Italian. Authentic, friendly. Great food. Very much a neighborhood haunt with a staff that “gets it.”

This restaurant was near our hotel and looked inviting so we tried it out and were very pleased that we did. My husband had a chicken special, I had liguine vongole and they were both delicious. It was served with warm bread and a beautiful olive oil plus I had a salad which was light with a very tasty dressing. It was so good that we went a second night because it was raining and this was so close. It was just as good the next night. I had the pasta with meat sauce which is one of the best restaurant meat sauces that I have had.

Best ravioli of my life!!

By heatherlouise |

The cosiest hideaway for some of the best food I’ve ever eaten! The pumpkin ravioli special was so good I haven’t stopped telling people about it! The staff were really polite and willing to answer any questions about the menu - they also had gluten free options for those wondering :) Thank you for a lovely evening!

Good value for lunch. A decor with soul

By Haskell J |

Perfect for the price. Nice period decor. Good service. decent, simple food at a bargain price for NYC, i e 18 dollars. A good location as well. probably good to reserve

Big disappointment

By geegeeOttawa |

This turned out to be a big disappointment. Although we had a reservation we were seated at a table with uncomfortable stools with no place to put our coats or purses. I had been looking forward to their Cacio e Pepe and it was the worst I have ever had. It was very dry and flavourless. Unfortunately, on my recommendation, my friend ordered the same thing and was also very disappointed. No one asked if we liked our dishes although we hardly touched them. The other two dishes my friends had were much better. The staff were not particularly friendly (bordering on rude). I will not go back.

A must for Italian cuisine

By jessica300 |

Very good address, fast service Quality Italian cuisine Coming by chance as the Mercato was full we were not disappointed

Good for happy hour

By intlwanderlust |

We didn't know it was happy hour and I was initially bummed to learn the menu is very limited at this time. Don't bother looking at the menu outside during this time because only the pizzas are available. That said, there are some great deals on wines by the glass and the pizzas are good.

Real Italian Pizza!!

By LeslieDQ |

Fabulous dinner! Margherita Pizza, Caesar Salad, Clams & Linguine. We looked up nearby restaurants and watched a video of the cook making bread and pizza dough. It was as real as the video! So good! Best pizza dough I had had since Italy. This is a Sicilian restaurant that fills up quickly. Make a reservation! We went back the next day for lunch because we loved it so much. Great service and very friendly crew! Worth the trip!!

Nice (but noisy) dinner

By Aibutiej |

We arrived early on a Saturday evening (with a reservation) and were seated right away in a small table for two. In truth this is not a large restaurant and (as is true in many NY City restaurants) you will be able to hear conversations from the next tables. Overall, this made the room seem quite loud. It was also rather dark in there. However, the service and food were good. My husband got the Orecciette Broccoli Rabe and liked its garlicky flavor, even if he thought the sausage pieces were too small. I got the Petto Di Galletto, which was delicious and just perfect for someone wanting to eat low-carb at an Italian restaurant! This place was a last minute find, and I think, a good find.

Best Pizza in Town

By Torkie85 |

Cosy restaurant where you feel immediately at ease! Italian ambience and by far the best Napoleonic pizza in NY

Excellent food and service

By Mary N |

We had dinner after a matinee my son and granddaughter caught the drama home from penn station. Great service and very good dinner the pistachio encrusted gelato was a big hit

Very poor service

By Carlos Raimundo V |

I do not recommend Bad service, bad food. At every hour they brought the bill, and we were drinking and eating some entries (bad) and then we went to dinner. Very poor service

Very good Italian Food

By Arlene K |

My friends and I met for dinner the other evening. One friend was coming from Javits center and another from Upper Westside. Very good location for them with lots of old world charm. Very crowded restaurant and now I know why. Food was excellent. It was fresh and hot right out of the kitchen. Waitstaff was very accommodating. Would certainly return again even though it was quite noisy.

Brilliant!

By maida22 |

Recommended by our hotel and really hit the spot. Absolutely packed but a great, noisy vibe. It’s authentic and charming. Everything looked terrific though we stuck with appetisers and pizzas which were delicious. Must book at peak times. Only small negative for us was that only espresso coffee is available after dinner.

Lunch for One

By Shannon D |

Cute little bistro type restaurant. Perfect for solo dining. Lunch special is one of the most affordable delicious deals in town!

Quick pit stop at this bellisima place.

By Robert B |

Really good Italian food with genuine ambiance. Highly recommended if you’re looking for somewhere casual and quick. So happy that we stumbled on it.

Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Hard to beat.

By Andy Shaw |

Traveling alone on business can be a soul-destroying experience, but there are joys to be had, if you know where to look. Tavola is one such joy. Waiting in line, seeing group after group turned away without a reservation, told to come back in an hour or so, they always seem to be able to find room for one at the end of the bar. Never give up hope! The food is Italian through and through. From the simple bread-and-oil, through arancini that will guarantee you can’t finish your main, a great mix is pasta and pizze with authentic Italian recipes through to secondi like the pork I had tonight that was perfection on a plate. Gnocchi that melt in the mouth, tomato sauce that tastes and smells of sunshine and the hills of Sicily, pork rolled around herbs and cheese to make sure you don’t feel like you’ll need to eat again for a good while. The staff are attentive but not pushy. Always happy to see you, and like the Swiss flag, a big plus. It’s my favorite place to eat when work brings me to New York and nowhere yet that my colleagues have taken me to has come close.

Great Italian find in Midtown

By joeedgar |

What an absolute gem. We had to sit at the bar as no tables available but still had really personal service. The food was great, good range of drinks, lovely to see locals in and out saying hello to the staff

Amazing Italian meal and atmosphere

By Paul H |

Had a family trip to NYC last week and stayed in a hotel just round the corner. This was the perfect find - pizzas were amazing but my absolute favourite was the veal ragu with the most amazing pasta. So good we ate there three nights out of 6. Really friendly staff - can whole heartedly recommend!

Romantic & Delicious

By Jennifer W |

Food was delicious and service was impeccable. The old rustic Italian atmosphere was perfect for a romantic dinner. Would love to go back next time we visit NYC!

Great Italian food

By Jason K |

Excellent service and food. Great place for authentic and tasty Italian food. Will be going back. Small restaurant and loved the communal table down the middle.

Busy and Fast

By Cassandra S |

Service was excellent, fast, and the food was very good. It was cramped inside and they were turning people away it was so busy!

Great Italian Meal

By rockstem |

We ordered a salad and different pizzas. Everything was great. Top notch. Highly recommend. We were there on a busy weekday night. Be forewarned. This place was very noisy. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, you may be better served looking elsewhere. There was a VERY long wait for our pizza so you may want to think twice if your kids are starving. That being said, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Two thumbs up for the food.

Disappointingly average

By touchingcloth |

Average Italian which had apparently run out of various menu items. Wi fi was not possible even though there were 4 visible addresses with the restaurant's name?

True to its roots

By Meagan E |

Delicious Italian food made from scratch. Cozy, welcoming environment. Make reservations because the space fills quickly. Staff were kind and helpful.

You can do better.

By Abrea J |

Clearly the is microwaved. Clearly. My meatballs were cold, and they brought the wrong ones……twice. Lol! The lasagna was definitely microwaved as well. No liquor….just wine.

Just what we needed

By Doug B |

We arrived in midtown after a long drive with bored children, so were glad to find a table here with no wait. The kids and I loved the pizza; it really was beautifully made. The lasagne was also delicious, as was the house bread and oil. Friendly and efficient service and a charming setting put the final touches on the experience. Bravo.

Not worth it

By Esther-etc |

Not pleasant, not comfy (put at the end of a table already occupied by other guests, no place for the legs, pretended the whole restaurant was booked while maybe the third of it shown up before we left) and even worse : not tasty. Kindly shared our disappointment with the lady in charge...who didn't give a xxxx

Good food, but bad service

By B.G |

Tavola is a nice restaurant with delicious food, especially the pizza. Initially, the service was really good and the person who seated us was really friendly. However, the other servers weren't as friendly or welcoming, and seemed to hurry us out. Food was really good, but not sure if I would go back because of the bad service.

Good pizzas!

By Maribel D |

They are delicious pizzas and desserts (cheesecake), was soo good! Sebastian give us a really good service. Definitely we want return!

Homely restaurant for lunch

By JA1403 |

Recommended by hotel - lovely lunch for my son and I . Attentive staff , delicious food and just what we needed . Really appreciated the waitress saying a bottle of sparking water was $11 ( a bit pricey ) so opted for something else instead ! Lovely decor . Would recommended !

Lovely Food - But .....

By debbie w |

Amazing food, however seemed to be very rushed. After taking our order and serving drinks the bread arrived at the same time as pizza's then plates taken away as soon as one person finnish, as soon as all plates taken away a dessert order taken and promptly arrived followed by the bill, then upon paying the waiter returns saying we hadn't left enough tip, we said we had left 10% he argued we hadn't and should leave 20% so we doubled checked, our mistake we had seemingly under paid the tip did however think it was out of order the way he told us ! although the atmosphere is very nice it's a bit dark and many customers put there touches on to read menu and look at food !!!!

Fantastic Italian trattoria in Hells Kitchen!

By Joan&DennisLINY |

Fantastic Italian in Hells Kitchen! We were in town for a day, seeing a show at Lincoln Center and visiting our granddaughter at NYU. We wanted Italian locally and Ravila was right around the corner from our Hotel Crowne Plaza. Easy reservation, popped right in. The food and drinks were wonderful! We had the arancini appetizer, great cocktails, excellent service! The wood fired pizza oven leaves a yummy smell, so I had a pizza for dinner while Hubs had the chicken! Both wonderful!! Topped off with Espresso to boot!! So glad to find this spot, highly recommend!!

Amazing pasta, service could be a little better

By Eddie |

Guys, this place was a pleasant surprise. It was Friday night after 08:30 pm and I was looking for a place to eat. I asked a recommendation in the hotel, and they pointed me to this restaurant. I arrived there and was promptly seated at the bar. My waiter was a little tired I guess. He did not offer me bread, did not explain the menu or the specials. I ordered my pasta, my beer, and that was pretty much it when comes to service. When comes to food, pasta came in 5 minutes, and made me a little worried because it came really fast. But the pasta was on-point, sauce was very tasty and they offered me Parmesan cheese and black pepper. Price was very good and I recommend this restaurant!

Busy and cramped

By anneha451 |

The food was OK as was the service.. Seating is far too close together, we were on a table for 2 and as with all Americans, the people on the next table dominated our conversation with their loud voices. We were almost touching elbows on tables for 2. We paid $70 for 2 pasta mains and 1 beer and 1 small glass of wine - not cheap!

Wow! You must eat here!

By klrc1969 |

Excellent food and service. We showed up to this restaurant by accident and went inside as we were hungry. The man, who we later found out to be the main manager, greeted us warmly and found us a seat even though we didn’t have A reservation. The atmosphere was so quaint ,we felt like we were in a small town in Italy eating at a family restaurant. Turns out this place has been around for a long time. Used to be a grocery store in Hells Kitchen. The manager took the time to explain the history of the place to us and show us some pictures. The food……OMG! Beyond good! We could have eaten there every single night of our trip. Price was reasonable for the quality you received. If you are in the NYC go eat here for an authentic Italian meal with great service!

Excellent local Italian eatery!

By German B |

We went in for dinner before an event at the nearby Hudson Yards. It's a very warm, old-school restaurant/bar with excellent thin-crust brick-oven 12" pizza. Very reasonable pricing on pastas and pizza. Happy hour glasses of wine were $6 (the pinot grigio and Montepulciano were quite good!). We shared a Meditteranean salad and Viddana pizza (artichokes, red peppers, wild mushrooms, plum tomato, basil, mozzarella). Both were excellent! We are coming back for dinner before a Ranger game at MSG!

Pictures say it all

Perfect authentic Italian restaurant. Highly recommend. The real genuine deal. It's no wonder all the reviews rave.

Quaint Italian

By Dave75714 |

Stopped in for dinner without a reservation. They seated me at the bar immediately. Bartender/server was prompt and helpful with selections. My meal was timed perfectly. Everything was hot and freshly prepared. The salad was crisp and fresh. The pasta cooked perfectly. Will definitely return.

Tasty Italian

By CAdams49 |

Great authentic meal, fast friendly service! The servers took the time to explain each entree. The food was served quickly and hot. Will certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting NYC. Reservations are recommended if you’re eating after 5.

Family dinner

By Lotta |

We had a good dinner (4 adults). Two ate gnocchi more pesto, one ate lasagna and I ate chicken with vegetables and roasted potatoes. Good service but a bit dim lighting. You sit close to the next table.

Our last meal in NY & it was a cracker!

By Abby C |

Absolutely loved Tavola! We were staying in the Hilton just around the corner and found this on google via “Italian near me”. We had a wonderful, lazy lunch there (not least revelling in neither of us having to drive at any stage!) My husband & daughter shared a pizza while I had linguine with clams. It was absolutely stunning, I loved every mouthful. The service was great, the place is traditionally Italian and has a proper “restauranty’ feel to it. Loved every minute in Tavola. If you’re in NY and you want proper, authentic pizza, head here!

Superb Italian food

By TeamWard |

A real quality Italian restaurant, superb staff (make sure you tip well they need it and deserve it) charming atmosphere and tasty items on the menu, great alcohol choices well worth a dinning visit

Wonderful lunch with family

By Marie |

We hadn't booked but popped in for lunch as a family of 5. The waitress was lovely and chef superb. We had lovely table near the front of the restaurant. We had the set menu and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Pizza and high level service👍

By Helle T |

We sat at the bar as we had not booked a table. It made no trace. The bartender was service minded and we had good talk about sights mm. Pizza was perfect - fast and nice service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ Will come again

Dinner

The Italian food was good but not the best that i eat, Wwelcoming environment. But make an reservations because the space fills quickly. Staff were kind and helpful.

Rude

By Gthree |

Very average food . The waiter was rude and unfriendly and demanded a tip . Never come across anyone demanding a tip ever in any country

Cozy and Charming Italian Restaurant

By Debra T |

My daughter and I just happened upon Tavola on a Saturday night after a long and stressful drive into the city. We were seated immediately and had wonderful service. I had the Casarecce Trapanese, which was amazing - cooked and seasoned to perfection. My daughter had the Gnocchi Della Casa, which she enjoyed as well. The atmosphere and food made all of our earlier stress dissolve.

Best Authentic Italian food ever!

By Suthernstyle |

I read the reviews on TripAdvisor and decided to try Tavola. Wow – – and am I glad I did. My server, Denise, was amazing. She suggested wonderful things and handled it all beautifully. The food was absolutely delicious, the ambience is beautiful, and I am so happy I came to this place. I met the owner and had exceptional service. Everyone on the staff was very friendly I will definitely be back the next time I’m in the city! Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

food good, wine so expensive

By Lori S |

One glass of wine was $12.00, the second was a special with spices $16.00. So a small pizza and one pasta dish (very good) and 2 glasses of wine came to $77.00 with tip. Kind of expensive!!!! I hear in Barcelona a glass of wine is 2 euros. Why so expensive here? I know, real estate, real estate. But still.

5 Stars all the way!

By Patrick F |

The food and service were both excellent. Friendly helpful service, and delicious food. I would eat here every week if I lived nearby. Best fried calamari & focaccia ever.

Good food, rude waitress

By Joe C |

We had earmarked Tavola as a place to eat for dinner while staying in New York. When we arrived, it was busy, so we were lucky that we had booked a table in advance. When we first sat down, we slightly moved apart the two, very small square tables our family had been allocated, to give us more room when eating. As soon as she saw this, the woman (who was our waitress for the whole night) moved them back, saying she "needed them together" for no apparent reason. Another problem with the seating was that there was a wall-mounted air conditioning unit above our table that often dripped on my arm. We looked at the menus, and all decided to have pizzas. When ordering, I asked if they could remove a topping from one of the starters, but the waitress blankly refused. This really set the tone for the rest of the evening, as I realised that the interactions with this waitress would not be pleasant. I then felt unable to ask for anything such as extra toppings on my pizza for fear of being dismissed. However, we remained polite and tried to enjoy the evening. When the food came, it was very nice - it was good to have authentic Italian food in the heart of New York. But with our every interaction with the waitress, she seemed rude, as if she had taken an instant dislike to us that she couldn't bother to hide. Overall, the food was good, but the customer service spoiled the experience.

Tasty Food!

By KyloRoin |

It's small and cramped in there, but it's tasty food. Lots of seafood, so watch out if you have an allergy! I had the spinach noodles with chicken meatballs and it was AMAZING. Husband had meatloaf and friend had flatbread. It was all delicious! Would return. It's a little fancy- if you order wine they'll bring the bottle and have you taste it and assume you know what's going on. I was a little confused when they poured the tiniest sip and just stared at me. I'm from Nebraska. We don't do that back home.

Disappointing .....

By tunasf |

Went here on a rainy, cold Sunday evening. Bustling, authentic space with several community tables. Dark interior with attentive wait staff. Really, really loud which made conversation tough. Ordered a pizza (Vesuvio) and minestrone soup. Soup was tasty and comforting. Pizza wasn’t even hot nor was it tasty. The crust was burned and soggy and by the time we were done it was cold. I was so pumped for an authentic NY style pizza and this pie so disappointed. Overall super disappointing experience that just didn’t work for us.

After a show and before the train him, this Italian trattoria is first rate

By Joe H |

We needed a place to eat quickly, but well before we call the train back home to eastern Pennsylvania. So this place on ninth Avenue near 37th, and figured it would work. The food was exceptional. I had a “individual“ pizza enough for two people. Sausage , peppers, onions and a bunch of other spices and it was as good as you could get. My wife had gnocchi with basil and tomato sauce. Her’s was simple yet fantastically good. Nice glass of Chianti, good bread and grilled artichoke salad to start, and you couldn’t ask for more. Service was very attentive and quick. If you’re in the hell’s kitchen east area, this place is where you should dine

Mother’s Day delight

By debraestith |

We made reservations for Mother’s Day and upon entry were immediately greeted by friendly and welcoming waiters and shown to our table with no wait. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The menu offers plenty of choices and we were given ample time to make our choices with our waiter offering his services for questions. My parents chose a wonderful Italian salad and a wood fire pizza. My mom commented it was honestly the best pizza she’s ever tasted. I chose Spinach fettuccini and I couldn’t stop eating it!! Thank you for a wonderful experience for our one night in NYC on our way to Greece.

Gluten Free Options

By BusinesstravelOz |

Nice cosy spot on a cold winters night. Good attentive service. Have to go gluten free and the foccacia was decent. Had the vendetta pizza and the wild boar sausage had plenty of flavour but the base was pretty wet . Have had worse gluten free pizza but also a lot better ( see A25 in Melbourne Australia as just how good a GF pizza can be).

Nice Italian eatery in the Garment District

By BRHoover |

This was a nice little restaurant in NYC and close to our hotel in Manhattan. The waitress did try to upsell me on the wine but was very professional and had a good knowledge of the grapes. It was cozy and a little bit noisy but not overbearing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those visiting NYC and near the garment district.

Excellent Italian great atmosphere

By 39jo |

Happened upon this really excellent restaurant. Delicious food (try buratta as starter and fig pizza) & fabulous service. We asked them to serve slowly as we wanted to enjoy our wine & they duly complied. (Seen afterwards the comments about others being served too quickly)

Perfect Cacio e Pepe

By CatheAtlanta_GA |

After a long day of business meetings this was a perfect spot to grab a perfect bowl of pasta and glass of wine to wind down with the warm and friendly staff. Reservations highly recommended but they do all they can to accommodate. It’s one of the main reasons I stay at the Homewood Suites around the corner on 37th!!!

The worst service ever

By Julia |

I went on Friday with my friend for birthday dinner. The food was good but the waiter so rude, he took my drink and i didnt finish it at all. He never came to ask or never said thank you. This restaurant will lose clients only because of the service.

Food:10, service: 2

By Oliver S |

I love the food in this place: it's quite out of the way for me, but I make sure every time I'm on the West side I stop by here to eat. This is one of the few places where you can find real Southern Italy food, my favorite being the grilled sardines with shishito peppers. Soups are house made and wonderful, salads are fresh and plenty, olive oil of the best Sicilian quality & good bread. Espresso: out of this world. Unfortunately, the service is hit and miss: I've had it very good, this week it was very bad: our waiter had no clue about what he's supposed to be doing, probably one of the multitude of aspiring Broadway dreamers. But I'll be back for the food, and hopefully, better service! **

Superlekker

By VanderZwaluw |

We didn't make a reservation and ate at the bar. Didn't make the experience any less. Great food and service. Excellent value for money (by NYC standards). Cozy atmosphere, authentic Italian. Recommended!

Nice surprise

By girlfromtoulouse |

Very good Italian restaurant in Manhattan. The Manager welcomes you with great sympathy. Good service. Special mention for the gnocchi. We had a good time, even if the service is a little fast for us, the French!

Brought the family to New York from Europe

By Charles H |

I’m a bit at odds with my dining experience this evening. I was asked if I made a reservation however I was told by our concierge service that the restaurant did not except reservations until 2100. So the gentleman that sat us put us at two tables that normally accommodates for people. We were six people. There wasn’t really enough room for all of our food. when we arrived at 1745 I noticed that 16 spaces were available. When we left there were 6 spaces available. So this can only lead me to believe that the customer is not necessarily important however making money is the most important thing. So now for the good. For someone who has lived in Europe for 19 years I can say that the food was absolutely authentic and fantastic. Very delicious and I highly recommend the restaurant for the food. I would give it five stars for the food but the customer service was lacking. Oh well maybe I should practice better expectation management, but it’s just my opinion. Just as a note the gentleman clearing the table was absolutely on point and working extremely hard. Good job for him

Excellent

By Ernesto |

Great food and service. Both pizza and pasta. Cozy atmosphere at a reasonable price for Manhattan. Good variety of wines

Authentic Italian

By TennisTravels1 |

Small intimate Italian eatery with welcoming host who makes an effort to find seating for all who enter. We were lucky to get a table for two in the front bay window and noticed those waiting outside had minimal wait time. Our appetite was small so we went with the tasty margherita pizza which arrived promptly. The dining was casual and spirited and the meals looked delicious. We will wonder back to Tavola during our next visit in town to enjoy a full meal. Pricing was reasonable and the atmosphere was cozy. The decor was charmingly, old, earthy authentic Italian! A place not to be missed when in NYC.

Molto bene

By p g |

Excellent Italian restaurant. Efficient and fast service. No complaints. Lunch offers a more main course at a very reasonable price (20 dollars plus tax and drinks) NB: For the French, you must understand that the notion of tipping is different from that which we have in Europe. This is the server's salary and not a supplement....

A little Italian in Hells Kitchen

By manpa |

Great little “hole in the wall” restaurant in Hells Kitchen. Great, rowdy environment, with local and Italian flavor. Enjoyable staff, good simple food. We had pizza and salad and enjoyed.

Tasty food, good service

By Elsa C. L. |

I liked my sausage with broccoli rabe pasta. So did one of our friends who had the same. Our two other friends liked their pasta with clams. Another friend enjoyed his fresh halibut. My hubby was satisfied with his meatballs spaghetti. The portions are perfect. Their calamari, tiramisu and unique gelato were all yummy. Tavalo proved to be a very good choice to host a lunch treat for friends. Thank you😊 Ms. Nicole! Also for our souvenir pictures that you kindly took.

Went three times in three consecutive nights because it was that good.

By Gates71 |

So, I attended New York Comic Con and stayed at a hotel around the corner from this restaurant. On Thursday, my wife and daughter were in the city and decided to try it out. We didn’t have reservations but the sat us almost immediately. Their menu is only one page long but diverse. You can get pizza, pasta or entrees, each with unique flavor parings. The portions are filling and the prices reasonable for New York City. We decided to put it on our list of places to return to. The return happened the next night. I was meeting friends for dinner. I wanted a reservation for 7pm but the best they could do was 8pm. One of our party didn’t get the message and arrived at 7pm. The restaurant was able to accommodate us at the bar with no fuss. On Saturday, I intended to order some wings in. When it would cost $63 to have it delivered, I decided to walk to find a new restaurant to eat at. Nothing caught my eye until I walked by this restaurant again. By this time they recognized me and greeted me as I walked by. I asked if they had a seat for me and the accommodated me immediately. So, to summarize: delicious food with personal attention that makes you feel special. Will be back again.

The most delicious wood-fired pizza!

By Where2next629 |

This is probably our third visit, never disappoints. Today we tried the Greca and Baresa pies at lunchtime. The pizza is simply outstanding. A flavor party for your mouth. Crust is thin and perfectly cooked. The ingredients mesh perfectly. Portion is perfect for each pizzaat 11". Its larger than most personal size pizzas and smaller than your standard 16". We each ate a whole pie ourselves, 6 slices each piece. For us, its the best specialty pizza we've ever had. Wish we lived closer. The ambiance is perfect. Service was great. They also do a prix fixe menu for lunch for $20.00 with a nice selection of choices. Can't wait to come back to try more of the menu!

New York 2019

By Sylvia S |

A friend had recommended the restaurant and we are glad that we took the time to make the time to eat here. Definitely one of the absolute best pizza we have ever had. The place is small and quaint but has great service and great food.

A+!!!! Amazing food!!!

By FLGRL123 |

Visited this past week. The food was amazing!!! Family had pizza, pasta, salmon and for dessert the Nutella pizza. Everything bite of food was wonderful. This was hands down the best pizza I had all week in NYC which is a pretty big statement. Would highly recommend this restaurant. From a service standpoint, our waitress was so nice and attentive as was any of the staff that came by our table. Thank you for the wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.

Tavolina next door sister restaurant

By Robin R |

We did a google for this area and found Tavolina at 496 9th Ave. I think it took over a BBQ place because Tavolina does not come up in Trip Advisor. After a very long day of Christmas windows we were so happy to find this place. Tables are small and kind of cramped and the bar is also an option for eating. The host(I think is is related to our waitress Sade) was so polite when at 6:30 on a Friday night(also pre-theater) gave a table for 3. Well the wine choice by staff was outstanding and not expensive. Sade our waitress was so very very nice and professional. We LOVED our food. Everyone near by seemed to be very happy. I had an eggplant dish. They have the best bread and dipping sauce complimentary. Just go if your in the mood for Italian.

Pizza and Happy Hour and a step back in time

By Cookiedawg |

My granddaughter and I were looking for pizza before the traditional dinner time and chanced upon Tavola two blocks from our hotel. Between 3:30 and 5:00 PM, they serve only a selection of pizzas and have happy hour prices on wine and Prosecco. We ordered a margarita pizza which was delicious. The service was great, and the place was popular at 4:00. One of the highlights for her was discovering the ceiling fans worked by a pulley system. Would definitely go back.

Good Italian on 9th

By twa203 |

Walked past Tavola earlier in the day. Headed back around 1930. Busy and bustling. Took a seat at the bar and enjoyed burrata followed by chicken meatballs and spaghetti. Good draught beers, wine way too expensive at $14.50 per glass. Two courses, two beers and a glass of wine $80. A tad high.

Awful food at high prices

By elysium28 |

I met a friend for dinner here. The room is pretty but too loud. I wouldn't have minded if my food tasted like absolutely anything. The arugula salad with artichokes was passable but could have used more lemon. The spaghetti vongole was an abomination. The pasta was pre-cooked and then re-cooked in hot water so it was like eating a plate of mush. I didn't taste garlic, olive oil, salt or anything resembling a flavor. The clams were obviously steamed separately and thrown on, and a few of them were barely warm. I have no idea how this place got four starts but I'm telling you, avoid it at all cost. Did I mention that the pasta was $27? :(

Nice Italian restaurant

By UE_DC64 |

My wife and I came for lunch. Really cool restaurant ambience. My wife had pizza with figs and Gorgonzola (Medina?) and absolutely loved it, in part because it was different from most pizzas. I had the pasta cacio e Pepe and it was unremarkable. The pasta was lumpy, and did not seem to have emulsified enough. And to my taste too little pecorino and pepper. I have tried it in many restaurants and at Tavola, on the day I ate, was below par.

The real deal

Ate during lunch while attending convention at Javitz center. Even though there was a huge table of fourteen ordering before us the service was professional. Food was excellent and much closer to true Italian than is normal in the United States.

Excellent Italian

A friend who lives near me in SC but works in the city recommended I go here while in NYC.. Probably one of the best Italian meals I have enjoyed. We ate at the bar only because we were enjoying the service and the recommendations of the bartender (Stephen?) Dont miss the The Gnocchi was fantastic and Eggplant Parm maybe the best I ever had. Oh..and the Ricotta Cheesecake was divine.

Go across the road to Il Punto

Went for dinner with family. Place was mobbed and really really noisy. Doesn't know if it's a restaurant or a public bar. Was told by a rude bloke to wait outside for 30 minutes to maybe get a table. So we went across the road to Il Punto which was also busy, but calm, quiet and the maitre d' allowed us to wait inside until a table was free. Go there instead. It's also much better rated on Tripadvisor than Tavola.

Enjoyed every bite! Warm and welcoming.

Casual delicious Italian food. We had homemade gnocchi with tomato sauce. Gnocchi was light and fluffy. Authentic Italian burrata was homemade and delicious. Pizza looked and smelled amazing. Wish we could have eaten more. Restaurant has a group table in the center which makes you feel like you’re in Italy.

Great food and great atmosphere

We had a fabulous evening here thanks to fellow travellers reviewing on trip advisor. We booked on the day, and we were glad we did, as it was completely full and people were waiting to be seated when we arrived but as we had booked we were seated straight away. The amosphere was amazing, lots of very happy people enjoying their meals with family and friends, it was lively and loud but not so loud you can't enjoy a conversation across the table. We both had pasta and it was delicious, the veal ragu was outstanding. It was a really great evening and definitely one to return to next time we visit NY.

Grazie Roxana!

A nice, reasonable quality Roman restaurant with a pleasant (but dark!) ambience was made so much better by the warm and sunny attitude of our waitress, Roxana. Hasta Mallorca!

Good food and service.

Friendly warm welcome and service. Great atmosphere Quality of food very good. Only downsize is that they cramp people into the space and the bill arrives quickly [before you ask for it] making you feel as though you're on a bit of a conveyer belt/turnover.

Absolutely fantastic!

In our top 5 Italian restaurants and only our second time here. Delicious food. Pizza is outstanding. We had the artichoke to start. Gnocchi entree is amazing, hubs raved about the pollo Romana. Dessert: don't miss the Italian cheesecake made in house. Atmosphere is wonderful. They have a long table towards the back of the restaurant that can be shared or if you have a large party it's perfect for you. Will be back.
