WOW. So Ramen is awesome

By Mike B |

My wife and I tried Terakawa for the first time. We NEED to come back five more tomes to try all of the delicious on the menu. I had the signature, she had the Miso and we split three appetizers. Everything came out quick and delicious. Super impressed. Sat at the counter and arrived early to avoid the line. Would have been worth the wait.

Amazing ramen! Worth the wait

By TanaPanda |

Amazing food. Hard to miss it's the building with all the people waiting outside to eat here. I had the spicy ramen and an appetizer that I forget the name of. Everything looked delicious and was well worth the wait. I will be eating here again whenever I am in philly and I recommend that you do too. I was in Japan earlier this year and their ramen is spot on.

Super delicious japanese ramen

By TRIPWUCHOICE |

Highly recommend. If you come to Philly Chinatown, you must get some ramen or other food like Taiwanese beef noodles.

Delicious and Very Reasonable

By Roadmeister |

Four of us went to Tetakawa Ramen last Saturday night at 530 before the movies. There was already a line waiting ahead of us, but we have our names to the forceful young hostess and she accurately predicted a wait of under 15 minutes. We were pleased to find that the noise level was quite mild considering how crowded it was. We ordered 3 appetizers and each had a main course soup/ramen dish. My wife and I enjoyed the Signature ramen with its rich broth and generous array of meat slices. The bill for 4 was $50 not including the tip. I have to admit that they moved us along, but it was not a night when we wanted to linger. This restaurant is on my list for return visits.

Authentic Japanese Ramen in Philly

By Yasu A |

If you want to eat an authentic Japanese ramen, you have to try Terakawa Ramen in China Town in Philadelphia. I have visited many top ramen shops in Japan and Terakawa is very close to them. The wait to be seated is long, so be prepare to wait outside.

Great Experience!

By Woohoo451 |

Went for dinner with a couple of friends after never having this style meal. This was a great first experience. I was surprised with how delicious and filling it was. The staff was friendly and very quick. I couldn't have asked for more. Absolutely wonderful.

Authentic Ramen

By TeamDavis1 |

If you want authentic Japanese ramen, look no more. This place is it. Most of their menu is variations of ramen and not too much else but when you make it right, not much else is needed. The only downside is that it's not very large so it doesn't take many people for the place to be crowded. Portions of ramen are huge and prices are great.

Good Eats!!

By Sylvia B |

We had dinner here for the 1st time and the food was delicious and economical. I had the crispy pork buns for appetizers and karaage chicken curry for my entree. I tasted my sister’s Beef Udon which she substituted the egg noodle for ramen noodles. Tasty!!! We avoided the line by arriving before 5:00 pm.

Finally found exceptional authentic Ramen

By jenniewald |

There is usually a wait at this small awesome Ramen place - do not let that put you off. I still think about the Terakawa Ramen I had. I can't find anything close at home. And it was SO reasonable. I would have, and have, paid twice as much for what I ordered. I would never go to Philly again without making it here.

Noodle bowl

By travlinrn |

We were fascinated by the different types of ramen noodle bowls they had here! They make their own ramen noodles, which was pretty different from the packaged ramen!

5 star

By Bryce W |

Small restaurant, was extremely busy, 30 minute wait for a table but worth it. They do not take reservations.

RUDE!!!

By casandra1977 |

We took a cab from our hotel specifically to eat here. We were the only people waiting when we arrived ... 25 minutes later they took a party of 4 people from behind us in line and sat them instead of us (because they knew them). We said something right away and they said, you’ll have a table soon. Terrible way to treat a customer! Obviously, they don’t want tourists at their restaurant - so we left! Thanks for wasting our time!

Real ramen in Philly

By breadl |

Tried 4 different ramen restaurant in Philly and this is the best by far. The ramen broth and noodles were definitely authentic and tasted similar to what you will get in Japan. They also have sesame with grinder for your ramen if you want extra fragrance! The service was fast and good. If you are craving ramen, do yourself a favor and come here!

Delicious, authentic ramen!

By AnonE-Mous |

My three favorite restaurants in Philly are within two blocks of each other: Terakawa Ramen, Dim Sum Garden, & Nan Zhou Noodle house. All three are very affordable & offer the best in their cuisine. I always get the Signature Ramen with an extra egg & the takoyaki appetizer. Don't be put off by the word "octopus" in the latter; it's just a bit of chewy protein in balls of yummy goodness. I've always had to wait for a table at lunchtime, even midweek, & the foyer isn't very big. That's never been an issue for us because we look at the weather forecast before making the trek in from the suburbs.

Very close to authentic Ramen

By David L |

The pork broth was thick and the noodles chewy with portion just nice. No hesitation to go back again and again. This place is located in the heart of Philadelphia Chinatown. Small but constantly pack even on weekdays.

Delicious Ramen

By travelerAnnArbor |

Delicious, flavorful ramen soup for fast casual price point. Would highly recommend. Wait staff was very patient and explained the difference between several menu items. 5 stars for flavor, price & service.

Excellent

By Lisa C |

Great soup, wonderful atmosphere. Service was great would definitely recommend visiting this place for lunch or dinner

An Amazing Dining Experience

By Flyboy101 |

Simply incredible. The service was fast and fantastic, the cooks HUSTLE to get the food out quick, but the food is 2nd to none. It is sooooo fresh and the portions are huge. I will go back over and over again. Its worth the hour drive.

Fantastic Ramen

By C B |

Was looking for another noodle bar and fortunately found Terakawa Tamen instead! I wanted a hearty bowl of hot noodles to warm me up from the 29 degree weather and their Mayu Ramen Did the trick! Order the red bean and green tea Mochi for a great dessert after!

Phenomenal Food!!!

By The World is My Oyster |

Probably THE best Ramen place I've ever been too outside Japan! The only negative thing I'd say, is that the temperature check and mandated hand sanitizer to walk in is a bit much 3 years after the pandemic. Now, that being said, the food was absolutely spectacular! We started off with the steamed pork Belly buns, which were incredibly tasty! We then ordered their specialty Ramen, which was so flavorful and with fresh ingredients. It is BYOB, and service was very friendly!

Great ramen, odd service

By Madeleine Rose |

Call me ignorant, but Philadelphia didn't seem like the type of city to have a vibrant Chinatown. I was proven wrong. During a day trip to Philadelphia, I stopped by Terakawa Ramen for a hearty lunch. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the signature ramen noodle bowl, and it satisfied me totally. The portion was generous, the noodles tender, the broth not too salty, the pork marbled with just the right amount of fat. I don't know about the service though. The waitress was nice, but seemed rather rushed and curt. Yes, it was lunchtime on a Friday, but she could have taken her time a little bit more. All and all, Terakawa Ramen serves fabulous food, and I will visit again.

One of the best ramen I’ve ever had!

By Marianne Mikami |

The ramen is incredible, I definitely recommend! The place is quite small so it’s best to arrive early. Price is fair as well.

2.5 hour drive FOR THIS????

By Maria R |

This is absolutely one of the best ramen i have tasted in my life! If you are in Chinatown Philadelphia, you MUST go! Staff was friendly, food was amazing! We had to wait to be seated but it was DEFINITELY WORTH IT! And it was not a long wait at all..I totally recommend this place to anyone INCLUDING VEGANS!!

It's ok to slurp the noodles

By Gunther N |

Ramen in a large bowl served piping hot. Excellent broth with plenty of noodles. Great spot in China Town. I will go back for the katsu don

Good but not great

By Siufung Wu |

I like the ambience of the place, feels like in japan itself. I took one out of the star cause i had better ramen but overall good.

Very good tasty soups

By Rob Z |

Went with a colleague one night, full restaurant long waiting list. We didn’t gave up and returned the following day. Shorter waiting list and we made it. It was worth it. Variety of soups to choose from and other dishes. We have chosen their favorite ramen and it was great. The other choice of soup was very different and also with good taste. Pictures are attached.

Good ramen

By Romain S |

I had the mayu ramen. By Japanese standards, it was good (even if not great), which is not so common in the Western world. The chashu was a bit too fat though. The service was OK, but could be improved.

Worth the wait....My new out look on Ramen Noodles

By tja209 |

While visiting Philadelphia for a few days at the end of January 2018, my wife and I were taken to this restaurant by my step-son (college student there in Philly) who recommended this restaurant. He indicated that he has eaten here many of times with his college buddies for late evening meal. Upon walking up to the front of the restaurant, I noticed the TripAdvisor sticker in the window, besides some people that were standing outside waiting to be seated. Our names were already placed on the list but the wait time was 30-40 minutes. Once inside the door, people were a little cramped in the door way area...but it was moving. The host eventually called our name and asked if we didn't mind sitting at the counter since there were 3 seats available. We accepted. We ordered our meals and waited for our food. While waiting I was peeking over the counter wall and watching the cooks do there thing. Food came quickly and the portions were HUGH.. We enjoyed our noodles, maybe cause it was a little chilly outside but overall the food was, in our opinion..Excellent, something different for us. We paid our bill and left. As we were walking, there was still a line of people waiting to be seated. They do serve soft drinks BUT you are ABLE TO BRING your own liquor to enjoy with your meal. On weekend evenings, EXPECT to wait. Overall, I recommend this restaurant if your into noodles or if its winter there in Philadelphia. Our son graduates in May 2018, and we plan on returning to this eatery at least 1 more time and any time we visit Philadelphia.

Great Ramen Place

By Frank O |

My son and I have gone here a few times in the past. Easy to get to, great service and food is out of this world! Various types of ramen dishes. The broths alone are outstanding. Good portion for a decent price.

One of the legit ramen places

By Criszette |

I chanced upon this restaurant while waiting for my friend and i am happy i did, they have one of the best katsu and ramen i ever tasted. Place is pretty packed too! Would definitely be back here!

Best ramen ever!

By jbv91 |

The portions was good, and there was vegan ramen! My parents are picky eaters, and they were really happy and satisfied with their meal here. :)

Great Dinner

By Renee S |

I was in town on business and I wanted something easy. The food was quick and delish! It was very busy and the menu was simple and easy to read. I would highly recommend for a casual bite. No cocktails or beer if you are looking to wind down after work.

Best noodle shop in the city...

By Tri_State_Foodie |

This place is amazing! I've tried several of the ramens they have to offer, and they have been nothing less than great. It gives you a taste of authentic Japanese noodles without having to go to Japan. They also offer a very popular Japanese soda called Ramune. It would be better if they offered more flavors of it, but the original is still good. The Takoyaki is to die for.

Cozy spot for some great eats!

By FNB_Birdie |

Really enjoyed our meal here, once we were able to be seated, they used a waiting list app a d we signed up. We were the first party on the list, yet the party of three that was on the list after us were allowed to sit before us. If you are going to have a “public” waitlist, might be better etiquette to respect all your guests. We had a great sampling of appetizers, pork buns, shrimp, and braised pork and sticky rice. I personally had the spicy ramen bowl, it was great! My wife had the signature ramen bowl. It was excellent as well. Fortunately the service after being seated was excellent.

Delicious Ramen

By Jeff W |

Wonderful meal, beginning to end. The servers were attentive, helpful and friendly. We had the takoyaki appetizer. It sounds horrible on paper (potato, octopus, shaved fish, bbq sauce and mayo) but was amazing. Spoiler alert. A lightly fried mashed potato ball with an octopus gumball surprise in the middle. The ramen was outstanding. I had the signature ramen. Great broth, super tender pork slices, and the noodles have a great chew. Get the egg. Youre welcome.

Slurp Sensation!

By Sierra M |

I'm a bit of a ramen nut and seek it out whenever I can. I ate lunch here with my family after reading about it in Philadelphia Magazine. It was absolutely delectable. We ordered steamed dumplings, curried chicken, mayu ramen & Terakawa ramen. All were prepared to perfection & were very savory. Prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is cozy. We sat at the bar seats (no alcohol served) where we had a great view of the kitchen. One word of advice, parking can be challenging.

Secret Gem

By ralpht1030 |

This little hidden Gem is worth the find. You cannot beat the value of these hand prepare roman dishes. With flavors I have only discovered here you will be told its a 20 minute wait when you arrive. But the customer change over is quick, from seating to ordering to a fresh delicious meal. It is a jollification location every time. Each trip to into the city has a stop here for me.

Amazing ramen

By Tom H |

The ramen is amazing, soup base is one of the best. Must try. I'd recommend trying the Terakawa Ramen, or curry rice. The regular beef/pork/chicken bowl isnt special at this place

delicious, cheap and friendly, GO FOR IT !

By pillowtester |

don't hesitate, they seem to be popular for the ramen, i loved it, very very tasty with reasonable prices. And you can add for 1-2 dollars, additional meat, mushrooms, eggs, ... I am actually returning tomorrow to try a curry that I saw on the table next to mine :p Their menu shows pictures of all plates which is clever.

Nothing Special

By sophie |

they always have a long waiting especially in lunch time..its not worth to wait for me...its Just a normal Japanese Ramen.. but, If you wanna try Ramen in Philly, Go for it.

this place is the bomb

By simnznc06 |

what isn't to like? excellent service, superb ingredients, awesome menu selection - food is hot, well prepared, reasonably priced and the place is packed. love it.

Do believe the hype...

By DOMINARJVC |

Just amazing...hands down, absolutely worth the wait and knew it as soon as I walked down the street and saw the line outside. The soups were luscious, get the mini chicken curry bowl fro an extra couple of dollars. The space is small but turns quickly with a surprisingly larger menu than I anticipated. The service was great and the portions were just perfect. I seriously cant wait to go again and again!!

Who knew?

By akadad |

Who knew that you could get rockin ramen in Philly? The vibe was fun, the service amazing, and the ramen was incredible!

Best Taste of Japan!

By Brad M. |

I've eaten ramen throughout Japan and the taste here is authentic. Absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is just like Japan, too. Philadelphia is fortunate to have an authentic place like this. You can't go wrong with any menu item but I'd recommend the signature ramen, pork buns as an appetizer, and green tea mochi ice cream as a finish. My one complaint is there's no alcohol but the food more than makes up for it. I'd highly recommend eating here. The service is very friendly and super attentive. Terakawa is so authentic I'd go out of my way to return here and eat some more ramen!! Don't hesitate. Go!

Yummy food in Chinatown!

By Tirzah D |

We loved walking through Chinatown and decided to stop for ramen. We walked in and it is a tiny little place. It was also very hot in there. We waited outside until they had a table ready for us. Once we ordered our food came out pretty fast. Also, I asked for a fork because I didn't know how to eat with chop sticks (I know, such a noob.) Our food was delicious and the servings were massive. Neither of us finished our food.

Great ramen

By Sarah W |

Great place for ramen in Philly! Try the chicken Katsu! Egg perfectly cooked. Great Japanese soda! Centrally located downtown near everything in Philly.

Delish!

By Brianabulls |

I’ve been to Japan and this is as good as it gets in America. We were seated quickly and our server was amazing! She gave recommendations, was very friendly, and even took pictures for us. The ramen was phenomenal! Fresh, hot, and full of flavor. I got the pork ramen with this amazing black garlic sauce. When you order ramen you can get a smaller portion of the chicken curry for $3! The chicken curry was amazing to the point that I wish I had a whole order. I would definitely recommend and return!

A must try

By SAdams |

Went for the ramen, loved everything. Like most ramen places it’s cozy inside, but that makes it all the more enjoyable. We had the steamed buns, the goyza, and ramen. The food and the service were amazing. Ramen is like chicken soup for me…it warms the soul and soothes. Will definitely be returning.

Great Ramen

By Escape469351 |

The Mayu Ramen was brilliant. I was seated immediately as a solo overlooking the kitchen. Great service, meal, and overall wonderful experience.

Great food

By Don P |

We had a great meal. The staff was friendly, this was our first visit. For appetizers we tried the shrimp tempura she mai and the takoyaki octopus, both very good. For the ramen we both tried the Terakawa Ramen signature ramen. Also very good. I drank the iced green tea, will visit again.

Real Japanese ramen

By TravelProNY |

Had Gyoza, Chashu rice ball, Takoyaki for appetizer, then Mayu? ramen. All of them was really good. This is an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant, nothing is fake. Highly recommended.

WOW SOO GOOD

By miXivan |

Just what you would expect: tasty, friendly, fast, large portions. Everybody was happy with their ramen

Great food - keep waiting on that line!

By Gaia A |

I had chicken with traditional Japanese curry sauce, my husband had ramen. We both really enjoyed the food and the service. Would definitely go there again to try other dishes. The place is small, but it doesn't take away from the experience because the staff is efficient and fast. I would recommend it to my friends for a quick delicious meal, just be prepared to wait sometime. We sat down after 10 min.

Chinatown gem

By Happy_wandererB |

I just moved downtown and looking for a good Ramen spot. By far, this is the best Ramen in downtown Philly. I had Spicy Ramen which is surprisingly good. The appetizers are to expectations or good. Portions are large and reasonable prices. Service is good and attentive.

Go for Japanese food in Chinatown

By Hoosier1959 |

We stopped on for a late lunch about 2pm on a Monday and were immediately seated. The wait staff was very friendly. We each ordered a different ramen bowl, and we all were very pleased with our choices. The ramen bowls were huge, and my daughter and could not finish ours, but my husband and son finished theirs. The broth was hot and flavorful, the eggs were perfectly done, and all the other additions were high quality. About $48 not including tip for four ramen bowls. We had no appetizers and only drank water. Well worth it!

Excellent Ramen

By Leisure_Queen_11 |

I stopped in here at random one day for take-out. I was really pleased with my food. Very flavorful and served piping hot! Tried to return with a friend for dinner at another time, but it was an hour wait for a table. Yes! People are in the know of how good this place is. It's really small but very stylish in decor. Would highly recommend! Prices are moderate, and the serving sizes are good.

Worth the wait!

By Bell W |

This is a very small place, but the food is excellent. This was the first time our group of four had been there and our waitress clearly explained the various menu. She was attentive throughout our visit and responsive to requests. The food was delicious! Members of our group chose the Terakawa Ramen, Miso Ramen, and Vegetarian Shoyu Ramen. Broth was rich and tasty. Meat in the Miso Ramen melted in your mouth. We arrived about 5:30 on a Friday evening and waited about 20 minutes for a seat. By the time we left, the line was out the door. Within walking distance of City Center.

Good food with good price

By Yueina X |

We went for lunch during our visit in Philly. The decoration was very Japanese with an open kitchen. We had Takoyaki as a starter, one ramen and a katsu curry (pork cutlet in curry sauce). As soon as I saw the starter, I knew I could not expect our other dishes to be authentic Japanese. The Takoyaki was deep fried. The flavor was close enough but deep frying is just not how they make takoyaki in Japan. The ramen was good. The katsu curry, well, it was good but still, if you want real authentic Japanese food, I wouldn't suggest you to go there. I think they mixed peanut butter into the curry sauce. The quality of the meat is reflected in the price. It is a cheap place to eat. The pork cutlet was just OK quality. The portion of food is very generous. Fast service. Overall we were really happy with this place. For a quick eat or a fun meal with friends, this place is perfect.

Yum Yum Yum

By TopazDreams13 |

I have not had a bad dish here! The Rene the waitress/hostess is awesome, so very friendly! I've tried 3 Ramen Bowls so far while all were super yummy my favorite still is the Terakawa Ramen. The appetizers are super yummy, might I suggest the Takoyaki or the Seaweed Salad?

Excellent Philadelphia ramen shop

By Winston |

Terakawa Ramen is an excellent ramen joint in Philadelphia's China town. I had the spicy ramen, it was magnificent. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

A Local Favorite

By Chloeferg192 |

Being from out of town, we went to Terakawa because it had the highest rating which often deters the locals. There was a 45 minute wait when we showed up and all locals in line telling us that its worth the wait and it was. Very pleased with this experience, but plan on waiting to get it!

Ramen not as good as it used to be

By Sharon Z |

Terakawa’s line is pretty insane on the weekends so I have resorted to getting take out now. I have been a frequent patron but since it got popular, I feel that the quality of the food has significantly went down hill. The broth doesn’t have much flavor to it except for the saltiness. I have stopped going recently all together because the quality of the food is no longer worth the $12 that they charge for a bowl of noodles.

Great find!

By dreamer8313 |

This is a nice little restaurant located in Chinatown in Philadelphia. It was packed on a Sunday evening with a but of a wait but it was so worth it! I ordered their regular ramen and it was delicious. It's greatly appreciated the back of their menus explain how to eat ramen, including topping your ramen with the hot sauce, the sesame seeds, among other things on your table. Will definitely be back!

Best ramen in the city!

By Ashley J |

Our party of five got seated in 5 minutes in the middle of the lunch rush, so I did not experience the wait other people did. The food is well-priced and so filling and so so delicious! The broth is thick and creamy and makes you feel warm and full and fulfilled! You'd never ever compare this to the dorm room staple. The pork and the egg and the bamboo and the ginger and the mushrooms all add such delectable flavor! I was in heaven here! Will be back again and again!!

Great Ramen

By erin w |

Came here as our 2nd stop on our girl's night Chinatown food tour. We came here for the ramen specifically and it did not disappoint. We each had a different type of ramen and while I liked my bowl the most, each were delicious. The wait was quoted at 40 minutes but we probably only waited for 20-25 so that was a plus. The only reason that I did not give it 5 bubbles is that the service lacked a bit. We were kinda rushed out of the restaurant and they even started cleaning up around us. We were not the last people in the restaurant either. I would definitely go back to this restaurant despite feeling a bit rushed.

Quick and easy stop for one! And sooo good.

By bolza |

I had an amazing quick dinner and had enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Great, fast service. The ramen was some of the best I have ever had. Highly recommend.

Very cool experience

By Fettucine |

Stopped in with my daughter on a Saturday afternoon and luckily did not have to wait to find a couple if stools at the counter facing the guys preparing the food. First time here and found it to be friendly, spotless and delicious. In addition to the bowls of ramen that we liked, an order of crispy pork buns was outstanding. Could be a small meal in itself. Highly recommended.

Authentic ramen and good choice of starters

By mosesh324 |

Four of us from UK enjoyed an informal and fast meal at terakawa ramen on our first night (after a long flight). My companions enjoyed their spicy ramen more than my terakawa ramen, but fortunately I ordered lots of starters to share, so no one was left out! Excellent value for money.

Delicious!!!

By Jennifer B |

The ramen here was quite authentic and delicious! If you're looking for a hearty soup, it's a good place to stop. The only reason I give it one less star from perfection is because they skimp on the meet a little.

Terakawa is Ramen and So Much More

By SEY |

In the heart of Chinatown is a Japanese ramen noodle house, Terakawa Ramen. While Terakawa serves Japanese curries, tempura and other dishes, it's ramen that brought us there. The restaurant is mid-size to small with both bar and table seating. Our party of two arrived @ 4:30pm and the restaurant quickly filled up on a weeknight. Food comes quickly so a short wait isn't too long from what I saw. The waitstaff are attentive and quick without being obtrusive. They served the ramen quickly. The ramen comes in large black bowls with soup spoons & chopsticks (forks available for the asking). The ramen is cooked "al dente" so it has bit of chew. The broth is simmered for two days and is delectable. On the table spices sit that can be added to the ramen and broth. We had ordered Spicy ramen and Veggie Miso ramen and both were the best we'd had. I'd imagine that any order would be yummy. You can't go wrong trying Terakawa Ramen.

If I could give them a 10, I would

By Megan F |

Fast efficient service, amazing food and inexpensive. First off, my best friend and I love real ramen. I live in an area where you cannot get it, so when I am in big cities I check TripAdvisor for high star ramen places. I was actually walking through chinatown in Philly and saw this place and a line out the door so I checked the reviews and was happy to see the recommendations. This is a tiny place with minimal seating, about 45 seats alltogether so you may have to wait, luckily we were seated immediately, served water and ordered green tea. On TA reviewer advice, ordered a side of the chicken curry for $2, it was delicious with crispy fried strips of chicken and a curry sauce over rice. I got the spicy ramen (included a picture on TA) with roasted pork, kimchee and the half soft boiled egg. The broth is pork based with added seafood broth and spicy chili added. I wish I had added an extra egg, they were so good and upped the flavor profile with the silkiness of the egg yoke. I usually do not eat the pork in ramen, just like it as the added flavor to the broth but this pork was fantastic and I ate it all! My best friend ordered the miso ramen and ate the entire bowl of soup (except the pork, I ate that for her. Ha, score), she advised hers was delicious and she "surprisingly" loved the egg. I will say that the spicy ramen may be too hot for some people but I felt it was spot on. We finished off with green tea mochi so I could have something to cut the heat of the soup. If I visit Philly again, I will most definitely be back for more.

So delish.

By Kali M |

The soup is to die for. I can't wait to go back. Get the roasted garlic broth, you will not regret it!

Wonderful Ramen...so tasty...so good...I want more

By ZagatMen |

We love Ramen and we were completely satisfied by this place. The food is great, the service is great, the price is reasonable. The only negative is the wait ...they could double the size of the place with no problem. this is a no brainer for Ramen lovers !!!

First Ramen experience

By Matthew W |

Love this cute place. Once you enter, you are immediately greeted by the kitchen and wait staff. We arrived on a Sunday at lunch and the place was mobbed. Staff was friendly and knowledgable. Only down side is no wine or beer. However, the Ramen broth and stocks were fantastic, the attention to detail was off the chain and I am now an enormous fan.

Worth the Wait

By Dana M |

There was a 25 minute wait for our table last weekend at Terakawa, but it was completely worth it. There's a certain awkwardness of being crammed into a tiny vestibule with hungry strangers with waitstaff dancing trays of hot soup through the crowded restaurant. I had the Terakawa Ramen. I usually don't finish the broth in any broth soup, this was the exception. I could have taken a whole thermos of this broth with me - it's made from pork bone. The noodles were al dente, and the thick cut bacon fell apart in my mouth. Red ginger was a great touch, and I'm always down for a soft-boiled egg, which appeared as though it had been ever so slightly pickled. My date had the Chicken Karaage platter, which came with a nice looking small side salad including two ripe tomato slices he didn't eat (of course... like I could ever get him to eat a salad) a bed of sticky rice, fried chicken, and a really nice curry type sauce that tasted fresh and gingery despite looking rather chunky. He orders it every time he goes there, he tells me. The only negative is a complaint I have about bamboo shoots, which to be fair, I've yet to eat really good bamboo shoots at a restaurant. For some reason all restaurant bamboo shoots to me taste too much like they came out of a can, which I'm sure they did. I just feel like I remember my mom making soup with canned bamboo shoots when I was a kid, and I used to love them. Same thing with water chestnuts. The first ramen place that can do bamboo shoots and water chestnuts that don't have that over-saturated can-with-Saran-wrap-over-it-in-a-fridge taste will earn the fifth and final star, all other things greater than or equal. I'll be visiting Terakawa again. It's a restaurant I would actually specifically make a trip to the city for. Prices were very reasonable, and the service was prompt and professional. My date and I ate for $25 total, including a can of coke for him and endless refills of hot tea for me. Location is convenient, just blocks away from Jefferson station.

SO GOOD

By Jmim1 |

Ate there alone on a business trip. Sat at the counter and got just a bowl of ramen. It came quickly and was absolutely delicious. Couldn't have asked for a better experience, but I'm pretty sure it was because I was by myself and could squeeze in at the counter. Tiny place and people were definitely waiting for tables - and it was the middle of the afternoon around 3 or 4pm!

Ramen was the bomb.

By Silvo62 |

Tried something new with travel team. Trip Advisor did not let us down. This Ramen was excellent and service was terrific. Manger asked us to try spicy edamame which was amazing. I had the Terakawa Special which was awesome. Should give this place a try.

First visit...so good...worth the wait!

By Kelly V |

While looking on TA for some dinner options we found this place and decided to give it a try. My (adult) kids have been to several different Ramen places, this was my first time. I was not sure what to order, but found items on the menu I thought I would enjoy...and yes, I did enjoy them very much! It's a smaller place so be prepared for a wait, but know that it is worth it...my kids loved it and I really enjoyed it as well. The staff was friendly and very efficient, they took good care of us. This will be a new addition to our meal options when in the Philadelphia area.

Just slightly above average

I was struggling with this review but ultimately decided that overall it was just slightly above average. Not bad by any stretch, but nothing particularly memorable either. Prices were reasonable, service was quick, and it's in a nice lively little location. I've just had a much better Ramen in so many other places. If you're in the mood for Ramen it's not a particularly bad choice, but I have to think there are better options in Philadelphia.

First visit with a friend - Delicious ramen!!!

By Margaret C. |

We arrived around 7:15 or 7:30 pm on a Saturday and there was a line out the door, but the wait was not too bad. Only about 10 or 15 minutes for a group of 3. The prices are very affordable and the ramen is excellent! My husband and I both got the spicy ramen bowl and our friend had the signature style. We all enjoyed our meals, though the spiciness got to my husband more than me (my nose was running and I love it!). The spicy ramen has fatty pork slices, kimchi, bean sprouts, mushrooms, half a soft boiled spiced egg, spring onions and, of course, ramen noodles. The noodles were cooked well but had a nice firmness to them still and the broth was very yummy. The spice level is probably pretty high for an average person, but I like things a little hotter and this satisfied and lived up to its' spicy name. (I've tried so many supposedly new "spicy" sandwichs at fast food joints that never live up to the name.) Service was very efficient, I was drinking a lot of water and they came back to fill it up a bunch of times with little delay. This is a pretty small place that is quite popular, so they try to move people through quickly. If you don't like to be rushed, this might be a negative for you. I did not feel rushed when eating though, even though I took longer to finish than my compatriots--but you better believe that when I was done, someone came to take the plate within 2-3 minutes or less I'd say.

Tan Tan

By stugeedodd |

The whole experience was fantastic. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. I’m chronically indecisive and asked our server for recommendations. She gave us spot on explanations of the differences in broth and noodles. We ordered the tan tan- one chicken and one pork- and the spicy ramen. All were excellent - the broth was full and flavorful and the noodles perfectly chewy. Our drinks were refreshed regularly and our food packed well for the ride home. I can’t wait to visit Philly and Terakawa again!

Busy on a Saturday

By Jackie H |

Had to wait 30 mins but it work out. The noodle was perfect and I ordered the spicy ramen and my family order shoyu. It was good but can not compare - never been to Japan. I enjoyed it. It is in china town and a 10 minute walk from Marriott downtown. Good service.

There's a line out the door for a reason

By Nan D |

This cozy place serves delicious ramen soups, rice bowls, appetizers. The flavors are on point, and the prices are very reasonable. Great service too. They don't take reservations, they do take credit cards, and it's BYOB.

Great place

By snorkler09 |

Stopped in with my daughter and her boyfriend. We had to wait about twenty minutes for a table There were people waiting before we got there and when we were leaving. They definitely have a steady flow of business. The service was very friendly and efficient. We , had two apps, pork buns and seared chicken. We each had a noodle bowl, consensus was that the Tan Tan variety was the best for our taste. Value was great , the place is a gem. looking forward to a return visit.

Tiny Ramen Shop with Great Food

By SeaMariner22 |

Terakawa Ramen has a wide variety of noodles to serve hungry patrons. Unfortunately it is very small inside although they had many cooks available to fill the brisk take out orders. Food is great but be prepared to wait.

Delicious Ramen

By sgtmorrison |

We waited outside for about 45 minutes on a brisk Saturday night. You watch the people come and go, some check endlessly every 5 minutes to see how much longer the wait will be. When it’s your time, be ready to go. The ladies talk fast and move fast. Turn over is fast. We got the seaweed salad which was very good, the pork bun which wasn’t my thing. Tomato on a pork bun? The Ramen was the star of the show. I like how you can pick how done your noodles are. I chose firm. They have a thin noodle and one that is a bit thicker. I liked the thick one best after trying both. The broth was very good. She said the spicy was a 7 out of 10 so I opted just to add spice to their house special. I will make this a return spot for sure. Especially as the temperatures go down.

Wonderful destination for ramen

By travelbug61 |

A colleague and I sought out Terakawa on a recent business trip. Very popular lunch spot for locals, but we were lucky to be seated right away. We both ordered their signature dish, the Terakawa ramen, as well as a couple of small dishes. Everything was super-tasty and fresh, prices were reasonable, and service was friendly and prompt. Couldn't have been better!

Soup Lunch

By Jhon |

The ramen soup selection was excellent and truly delicious one of the best in town. The meal was affordable and filling.

Quick and delicious lunch

By napalovers |

I would recommend this for both novice and experienced ramen eaters. Our wait for a seating was not too long, especially given the crowd in this small spot. We sat at the counter but even this did not make the bustle of the busy place a problem. The tastes were rich and balanced. Service was speedy. Be sure to specify if you want your noodles firm or soft, salt level low, normal or high. My Terakawa Ramen was a large bowl brimming with noodles, pork and veggies. The "pro" ramen eater much enjoyed the heat and flavors his Mayu Ramen. The prices for size of the servings was also quite reasonable.

Must Try! Terakawa Ramen

By Ruby S |

Best place to have Japanese cuisine. Located at China town. Must try restaurant in Philly. Vegetable soup with vegetable stock was the yummiest ever had with jasmine rice was a hit. Place is always crowded. Wait time of minimum half an hour located at the main road. Parking available at road corners. Staff is friendly and understands your need guide you with your food preferences.

Delicious ramen

By Muzzling |

I had traditional ramen with minced chicken and bean sprouts. It was deliciously filling and wonderful. The place is clean, organized, and well-run. No wonder there was a line!

See the light of deep broth

By thomasdemaar |

My introduction to noodle soups came via an A. Bourdain episode. I knew I would like it. But every ramen/pho/egg noodle soup since then left me wanting. Until NOW! I have seen the light. If you want enlightenment, go eat soup.

Tan Tan

By Jenfoxj |

This was my first experience with Japanese Ramen and it was super yummy. I had the Tan Tan which is mildly spicy. I'd eat here again.

Probably the only acceptable (for Japanese) ramen joint in Philly

By Makoto N |

In my humble (Japanese) opinion, this is the best and the most authentic ramen joint in Philly. Possibly the only place I think could survive in Japan. The best one is Terakawa ramen, which is their signature ramen. If you are not Japanese (or not used to thick pork broth), you may find the soup too strong, but that's what Kyushu ramen is known for. So at least try once or twice before give up. They are rich in flavour and addictive. (Thin) noodles are good. You might want to ask "katame" (hard) like Japanese, eat super quickly like Japanese (before the noodles get soft after soaking water), and order extra noodle ("Kaedama"). Gyozas (dumplings) are ok. Nothing special but not too bad (except for its tiny-ness). I have never tried other side dishes, but they do not seem anything special, from Japanese standard.

Ramen in Philly

By Luca Miragoli |

Delicious , i suggest terakawa ramen signature . Consider to wait al most 30 min before to have a table.

Good food and service!

By aTm20 |

My coworker and I stopped here for lunch during our time at PLA. The service and food was on point. I had the pork bun and spicy ramen. The portions were justified for the price and the meat was soo tender. Yum!

MY FAVORITE AUTHENTIC RAMEN HOUSE

By BearTriggerPo |

This place in Philadelphia's Chinatown is just a small restaurant. I live in Montgomery County and I had to drive an hour to Center City just to be in this place. The ramen noodle is freshly made. The broth is very tasty! My favorite ramen is of course Terakawa Ramen although they have other kind of ramen to choose from. For appetizers, I will suggest that you guys try Takoyaki, Gyoza, crispy pork bun and Shrimp Tempura. Just a heads up... do not go to this place during lunch and dinner hours... the place is always full packed! But I assure you guys... you will not regret coz the food there is really awesome!

Love this place

By Tim |

The food and service was awesome. The wait at the peak of dinner time on a Friday for a party of 4 was 35 minutes. Had spicy ramen, and shared some appetizers- everything was fresh, prepared well, and delicious.

Worth the wait!

By Rarema |

We waited around a half an hour because the place was very crowded, but I was very much worth it. I had Kyushu Danji Ramen (Whopper Style), which is the dark ramen, was very delicious! One of my friends took the Spicy Ramen which wasn't too spicy and also very good. The staff was very friendly.

Tasty and good value

By Abby Dee |

We arrived without a reservation and was told 30-40 minute wait. We only waited for about 15 minutes before getting a table. The appetizers were amazing and the ramen portions are massive! we split one bowl and could not finish it all. The flavor was really good and you can tell its homemade. When we were leaving there was a huge line out the door. I would recommend getting there early!

A must try in Philly

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

About 8 different types of ramen on the menu. The spicy ramen with a seafood broth has really good depth of flavor and some of the toppings are really good: the egg especially. The chicken ramen had much less depth though it got better over time. The portions are solid but not huge esp for the $15 price. Restaurant is a little tightly packed but it works. Their COVID protocols were really safe and the service is attentive.

Everything was wonderful

By thecatskinner |

My wife and son were with me. We shared karaage chicken and pork buns on soft rolls as an appetizer and they were both perfect. The chicken was crispy and meat was extremely juicy. Both my son and I had spicy ramen which was a real treat--and spicy. My wife had the vegetarian miso ramen and had the same review.

Great ramen!

By wright762016 |

This is a small place, looks like a hole in the wall. It's clean, staff is good, food comes quickly, and it was fantastic! I got the spicy ramen. All of the ramen bowls were $10-$12, and you could add extras to the bowls for a couple dollars.

I’ve been looking for a real

By Evelyn P |

I’ve been looking for a real Japanese ramen house and this place is the answer. Delicious ramen variety but I their house special is the best. Great service from all the staff, friendly, efficient, and quick serving your order. Highly recommended.

First Ramen

My first ramen experience was delicious. The place was packed which is usually a great sign. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal.

Best Ramen I’ve ever tasted!

By Evren G |

Lives up to its reputation! I have never had ramen like this before. All the items on the menu look exceptional but the ramen is definitely the best!

Picky Ramen Eater. Loved this Ramen

By ScubaKimmy |

I eat ramen whenever I can and am picky. I know good ramen from ramen great is nothing more than instant noodle trying to be disguised as ramen. The miso ramen was delicious. I didn’t want it to end. The portion size was perfect with the exact combination of broth, noodle, vegetables, and of course pork. The steamed gyoza was also very good. I wouldn’t say it was the best I had ever had but they were good. The staff was friendly and efficient. If you are looking for great Ramen in Chinatown this is the place to visit.

Great lunch; BYOB

By David P |

Came for lunch. Very busy. Make sure to arrive eArly. It’s byob so bring your own alcohol. Ordered the spicy ramen and edamame. Staff was efficient and quick.

So good!!!

By Elena t |

We walked here from franklin square... the Raman was phenomenal! Small restaurant, not a long wait but I’m sure that depends on how many are in your party.

Yummy

By Bobdec |

Great great ramen. One of the best I’ve had in a while, and certainly the best in Philly. Service is ok. It’s a busy place and worth the wait!

Great Ramen

By Karen M |

What a find this was, the ramen may be the best I have ever eaten. I read about this place and I'm sure glad I did, can't wait to go back and try some different items but I will get the ramen again, they were that good.

Excellent Ramen

By dvlpp2003 |

First time in Philly and decided to grab lunch. I was in the mood for ramen and searched for a local ramen shop. This place is amazing. It's small but the food and staff is amazing! Not pricey at all. Would recommend going during off peak hours.

Nice and warm place

By Valeria M |

It's a nice restaurant with good food, we tried the dumplings for appetizer and ramen, the plate has a nice size and a really good flavor I really recommend this place

Has to be the signature ramen

By Kenny W |

Best ramen in Philadelphia it's not even close...every time I visit I have to go. I recommend their tempura shrimp too..it's like cotton candy in texture

Good times

By martha475 |

My miso broth vegetarian ramen was delicious. Food was great, and the efficient service was wonderful. The kitchen and the servers, most impressive!

Excellent Spicy Ramen!

By myklrl |

Nice little place in Chinatown for authentic Japanese style Ramen. Small, crowded, and a good selection on the menu. I was most impressed with the heat level of the spicy ramen I ordered. It really was spicy! Just the way I like it. Prices are decent and the staff is attentive and prompt.

Pleasant surprise

By Captkave |

This was our first time trying a ramen other than instant ramen. We both love all sorts of instant ramen and finally got a chance to try it at Terakawa Ramen in Philadelphia. The initial impression. Fiirst, the place was neat and clean. Second, the aroma of ramen broth was definitely inviting. I had to try Taco Yaki since I haven't had it in many years and it was delicious. For ramne, I ordered their signature ramen, Terakawa Ramen, and my wife ordered Tan Tan, spicey miso, chicken broth ramen. Mine came with straight noodle with pork based broth. It was great and very delicious. My wife's ramen was a bit heavy for me. The broth was very thick and rather heavy. But it had great flavors. We visited their during the week and did not have to wait in line.

Worth 45 minutes of standing on the sidewalk

By ked909 |

Three friends and I went with a preschooler. Every one of us (including the vegetarian) left full and happy! The place was packed but not uncomfortable. Despite the long line, service was quick once we were seated. The ramen entrees were very tasty; the broth was richly flavored. Most of us enjoyed our appetizers even more than the ramen itself, though. The takoyaki, in particular, were fantastic. The preschooler would've eaten two orders if we'd let him. The shrimp shumai-based appetizer was also a hit, as was the onigiri and the seaweed salad. I think the udon noodles looked better than the thinner noodles in the terakawa ramen, but I'm glad I tried the signature dish. I'd try a different ramen or the udon next time, but I'd definitely go back. This place was absolutely a great dinner. Good value for money, too.

Son HAD to try real ramen

By Freddieb7 |

Good place, found out that real Ramen isn't quite like what we are used to. Quantity was plenty (I got the smaller size and it was plenty), nice to try something different.

Great ramen

By Jim C |

Busy ramen restaurant, walked in at 5pm and already there was a wait. 30 minutes later, we had our table of four seated. The hostess or manager was a young lady and she was a gem, handled all the walk-ins with greetings and got parties seated in a perfect orderly schedule. Ramen was great, service was great, just wished it was a bigger restaurant.

Long wait but totally worth it for the ramen.

By Katie |

Came here with a friend and my first time experiencing "true ramen." This place is very popular so our wait time was over 30 mins but it was definitely worth it. The ramen was so delicious and was the perfect meal on a cold day. I will definitely be coming back for more in the future! Side note: it's a pretty small restaurant so if you have a large party it may be difficult to get seating.

A must-do if you love Ramen ...

By Foz2B |

It can be quite a task trying to ascertain which places to dine at for a person's first visit to Philadelphia ... Terakawa Ramen proved to be a wise one. As can be said of notable dining venues, the location of this restaurant is nothing to write home about. Arriving after a long day at the Wizard World Comic Con at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre, there was a quite a crowd of Comic Con attendees and local residents waiting to get into this tiny restaurant - you can wait around in the tiny narrow entrance way or mill around outside until your name is magically called. It is nicely air-conditioned inside when you are seated ... and away you go ... We started off with the delicious gyoza ... ramen bowls ordered were the Kyushu Danji Ramen (Whopper style) and their signature dish, the Terakawa Ramen. If you have a hearty appetite, then the Kyushu Danji does not disappoint ... and with the Terakawa Ramen ... each ingredient in that bowl was delicious. When "apologizing" to one of the local residents waiting in line about the flux of Comic Con visitors lining up, she said she did not mind at all ... as all the extra business will go towards helping keep one of her favorite places to dine at around in the future.

Excellent food! Seems popular with the locals

By Ellen P |

Glad we stopped here for dinner. Both my son and I love ramen and we try places wherever we visit. This is one of the better ones we’ve had. The Terakawa ramen soup base is the smoothest, silkiest I’ve ever had. The pork was soft, tender and well seasoned. The bowl was just enough, but not overly filling. There is a wait list you can punch in your name and number - and you can monitor the wait list line remotely. It’s pretty accurate in predicting the timing of when you should get back on site and when you’ll be seated. Definitely a well run operation.

Excellent mayu ramen

By Philoramen |

We ordered the mayu ramen (with black garlic sauce). Everything was very good. Straight noodles that fit well with the tonkotsu broth. The egg was very good, still gooey. There were some red ginger slices in the broth, Hakata-style, and you can add grounded sesame or other spices if you want. It's very busy.

Perfect ramen

By jessieallie |

Found this place by accident and went back a few days later. It was that good. Delicious and a great price point. Can't beat it for filling deliciousness. I will be back again and again.

Not your college calorie stand-by

By Drew K |

Wow what a great place - by far the best ramen I've ever eaten. The place is small but very friendly with an enormous staff of cooks and wait staff. I ordered the edamame which was the best I've ever eaten, even after five trips to Japan! Because it was my first time I went with their signature Terakawa Ramen. It was wonderfully layered with flavor sand textures. The broth was superb and noodles perfectly cooked. The Berkshire pork was spiced well and a good balance of fat and lean. The marinated soft-cooked egg was unlike anything I ever ate. To top it off the meal including hot green tea and tip came to $14. This place is amazing and a must stop in central Philly.

Good flavors

By Meghan A |

We visited here for dinner. Everything was very good. We ordered the curry chicken, Miso ramen, and chicken ramen. Yummy!

17th Anniversary Lunch

By Shybland |

Just got finish having our 17th wedding anniversary lunch with my son and husband. I would say the place is small, but the food was pretty good. I had the Shoyu(?) Ramen, which the noodles were really good. I would of liked the broth to have a little bit saltier flavor, but that is just my preference. Overall a really good restaurant, friendly staff, and convenient location. We took the PATCO train in from NJ and only walked a few blocks to the restaurant. I prefer to go to a more romantic dinner for my anniversary with just my husband, but this was still a nice place.

New experience

By Xzacklee |

The line was out the door. The hostess said 45 mins was the wait, it was more like 25 mins. My family and I have never been to a ramen restaurant and I can’t compare it to anyone else but what I can tell you the food was hot the waiter was attentive. This was very tasty food. We definitely would go back.

Worth the wait

By Beth W |

Our party of five arrived at 7 pm on a Thursday night to find the place packed and the wait time was 30 min. It was my daughter's birthday, and a couple of people had driven a ways to be there, so we stayed. It was our first time there, and had heard great things. The seating capacity is small, and only a couple of tables can service parties of five or more. We were glad we waited though. The birthday girl had the spicy ramen and was very happy with it. I very much enjoyed the Mayu; the pork was very flavorful and the medium broth yummy. The staff was great. We had brought our own cake, and we asked for some forks and plates. The server asked if he could take the cake to the back, and without being asked, they brought it back with candles on it and the staff sang 'Happy Birthday' to my daughter. Very thoughtful!! We will be back! There is street parking-- we had come in two cars and were able to park on the same street (9th street) within a block of the restaurant. There are also paid parking lots nearby.

Yummy!!

By Minibelle4 |

The place is small, full and no line when we went there on a Tuesday night. We had Gyoza (5 pcs), Takoyaki (6 pcs) for Appetizer, Kaarage Chicken Curry, Katsu Don, Kyushu Danji Ramen for the Main Course. The food is just delicious. We will definitely go back to try other food in the menu.

authentic Japanese Food

By ckatmomi |

Terakawa Ramen was recommended to us by my son who says this is the closest to the food he had in Japan. We had pork buns and shrimp tempura shu mai as an appetizer both were very good and the Ramen which was also good.

Popular so Get there early

By Gary B |

On the edge of Chinatown this is worth a visit for authentic Japanese food. I got there by 6 and when O left the line was out the door. The Gyoza is a good start ($5) and tried the spicey Ramen ($13).

Come for lunch on a weekday

By Kenny |

It's my understanding there can be a bit of a wait during prime time dinner / weekends. So this place is perfect when you can pop in quickly and get a superb bowl of ramen.

rainy day foods

By Joni T |

Generous portions. Ramen bowls themselves were good and there were a lot of options. The sides were mediocre and drink options limited and I would have preferred tea be made, not from a plastic bottle. Did a brisk business with a chic clientele.

Good Ramen

By Yokouno |

We were craving for some Japanese Ramen, and looked it up on Yelp.. We found this place in Chinatown of Philly. The food is good.. one dish tends to be on the salty side.. but is still alright.. The best one out of the whole meal was the Spicy Seafood Ramen, it was so fresh and delicious..but you needs to be able to take the heat.. it is quit spicy..

This is a place that you want

By Trails4U |

To go early to beat the rush. If you like it spicy, make sure you ask. Otherwise, you will be disappointed when it is not spicy. Reasonable prices great service and worth the wait.

Ramen love

By robertmoffett |

We visited on a busy Monday evening and took the last seat in the house. What a wonderful, wonderful gem we found. We sampled potato croquettes,Vegetarian Shoyu Ramen and Shoyu Ramen with fish cake and chicken and each dish was great. Excellent choices and I would return!

Comfort Food!

By Darrell M |

My first hint that it would be good was the projected 20-minute wait for a table for three to eat ramen on a warm autumn afternoon. The second hint was learning that it was my son's fourth visit. It did not disappoint. My wife had the Terakawa Ramen (signature ramen), my son had the Shoyu Ramen (his favorite), and I had the Mayu Ramen. All were excellent. I washed mine down with a mango Calpico and we all left quite full and happy. The service was attentive and quick. The prices were quite reasonable. I would definitely go again, even with the wait for a table.

Yummy Find in Chinatown

By Theatricalgal23 |

This was a great find amid the countless restaurants in Chinatown. If you love ramen don't hesitate to stop. Delicious broths and perfectly cooked noodles. The restaurant is clean, cute and delicious. The service was just as excellent as the food. Definitely adding this to my list of Philly favs.

Must try for Ramen

By TravellingTrio720 |

Must try for Ramen. Our standard order is Terakawa Ramen and Miso Ramen. The tonkatsu broth is rich and full of depth, the best we have tasted so far, including NYC. Service is friendly and brisk. Can’t really comment on the other food as we only come here for the ramen.

Amazing!

By Sara W |

I came here on a whim, but I am so glad that I did. This was some of the best food I've ever had. The staff was really nice as well, and the wait time was barely there. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

First time's a charm!!

By iamoasis |

I'd like to start by saying this was the first time we've visited a ramen place anywhere so I can't speak from experience nor am I an expert in this cuisine. Although throughout university I did live off ramen noodles and I'd be insulting this place if I even compared the 25 cent ramens to this restaurant. Upon first walking in on a Friday at 730, there was a line up. We were seated at the "bar" (which faces the cooks). This was neat and I can certainly appreciate their hard work. Since I didn't know what to get i just asked the server to pick for me and she selected the miso noodles. My wife selected the signature ramen. We started off with pork buns for app, three of them. The pork buns were good but for 2.50 each I felt they could have been a bit more. They tasted good, don't get me wrong but 2 bites and gone. Both my wife's noodle bowl and mine were amazing. Both distinctively different flavor (my miso had egg noodles and hers were called "thin" - I have to admit i didn't understand the server but I think she called them "thin" noodles). Doesn't matter they were both good. By the time we left at 9, there was still a line up out the door. This was a great restaurant and the wait was worth it.

Great food!

By NJAirbrusher |

Charming, busy with an authentic Japanese atmosphere. Reminded me of being in Japan in their awesome smaller family restaurants! Great broth in the ramen bowls! Great appetizers! I even bought a couple of their shirts 😊👍🍜

Ramen poorly done

By ScottyV0909090909090 |

While in Philadelphia I noticed this place on apple maps. It has been quite a long time since I last had a "real" bowl of ramen. I was a bit excited walking in since they were packed. The menu included what I would have expected without going too far from the theme. I ordered the Kyūshu ramen and a chashu onegiri. The onegiri was delicious. It had me super excited for my main course. The bowl of ramen came out and it looked wonderful. I am not a fan of pickled ginger in my ramen. So I quickly picked it all out. The soup lacked flavor. Something was missing. Maybe it wasn't salty enough. And the ramen was really thick and a bit undercooked. I spent a lot of time in Japan and became a bit of a ramen snob in that time. For me this place wasn't worth the $20. But perhaps for the uninitiated it would be a fantastic Japanese mini vacation.

Good Ramen

By Bal Kaymak |

Signature ramen is really good. Curry food is average. Karrage chicken is also good. Prices are normal but serving size is a bit small.

Good ramen place

By Dmitri K |

Why "a hidden gem"? This place is quite popular and is not hidden at all. Gem? Well, the ramen is good but not excellent. Atmosphere is a bit hectic. I would not go there if I had many people with me since the place is fairly small and it takes a long wait to sit a group of over 4 people (case in point: we were seated, ate and left and a group of 6 people who were in front of us in line were still waiting to be seated). The service was quick but a bit too quick. Our plates were literally snatched away from us the moment we put our chopsticks on the table. Inexpensive.

definitely add to your dining list

By c b |

Dined here twice during the past week and was not disappointed. Tried the appetizers, curry, ramen, udon and rice bowl. The staff was friendly, place was clean and the food was delicious. Would definitely dine here in the future and recommend to others.

First time for Ramen LOVED IT

By Kim W |

My daughter and I split the Spicy Ramen. Fantastic. One bowl was plenty for us to share. We also had the croquettes. These were also very good. A friend reccomended the fried pork buns. While good i wish they had more of the wonderful pork filling. Lots of choices on the menu. I will definitely be back.

Great food at a good price.

By Philip G |

Wait for a table can be long, we waited 45 minutes, and parking in the area is limited but the food was so good that it was worth it.

The absolute best

By IndySig |

It was certainly worth the walk to eat here. When we arrived around 5:30, we were almost the only ones in the restaurant. Twenty minutes later, there was a line waiting for seats. I had the veggie ramen and it was out of this world. All of the food coming by us looked amazing and smelled just as wonderful. The price is very reasonable and the wait staff are very efficient.

The best seasoned eggs

By GoPlaces09868037183 |

This is the best ramen shop in Philadelphia. It's always crowded because it's near the shopping arcade. The roads around there are narrow, there are a lot of people, and parking is not good, so I always go by train. It's an 8-minute walk from the station, so the train is convenient. If you don't make a reservation, you'll have to wait about 20 minutes. I ordered the fried chicken because I had to wait. The fried chicken was too good. The taste of the Terakawa ramen is delicious, and you should try it if you go. I always eat it, but the portions are so large that I can't always finish it all. On top of that, the seasoned eggs here are light and soft on the inside.

Excellent place for ramen

By PaK90 |

Had a tasty and healthy ramen here. Food was served quickly and was perfect on a rainy day. Price was very reasonable as well. It is located fairly close to the National Constitution Center museum. I would definitely return to this restaurant.

Always a great call

By C B |

For me as a Ramen lover I have to say that Terakawa is my favorite place to visit when in the city of brotherly love. The pork bone broth is such a satisfying meal especially during cold weather that I can't pass it up when in town for business. Go!

Great Food!

By Dana M |

Stopped here for a dinner with 5 friends on a Saturday evening. We were seated quickly as the hostess offered to seat us at the bar so we could all stay together. Food was excellent--simple, but reminded me very much of the food I had during my stay in Tokyo. Will definitely return if I'm in the area!!

Used to be better, now three stars (means below Tokyo standard)

By Makoto N |

I have been a royal customer of Terakawa (actually I have been a royal customer from its unsuccessful a previous incarnation), I always like Terakawa, and always thought it’s by far the best ramen joint in Philly, but I noticed deterioration of quality recently. Seems like they got more popular (with ramen boom), and they hired a lot of new people. Last couple of times I went there, soup got noticeably weaker and less flavourful. And the last time I went there, they served extremely over-cooked noodles. They used to ask how I want the noodles to be cooked, but they stopped doing it in the recent years, and I can see that the guy cooking the noodle is not as serious as the old guys. According to my observation, the guy was chatting with his colleagues, and did not check the clock super carefully, which I think led to overlooking of noodles. I returned the noodle as this was so bad in quality. This used to be the go-to place for ramen, but I don’t recommend this place anymore. It’s not better than other decent ramen joints in Philadelphia. If you are not Japanese it’s fine. If you are Japanese, don’t have high expectations.

Excellent Ramen, a definite must for Ramen lovers!

Visited this place today for lunch. It is really good Ramen for a very good price. I had the Terakawa house special and it was excellent. I've ate Ramen in various places including in Japan , Toronto and DC, and I really enjoyed this place. It's good, simple Ramen for an affordable price. I would really recommend it for Ramen lovers. Really liked the slightly spicy pickled veggie, it added a nice touch. The mushrooms in the dish were probably the best I have had in a Ramen dish. Can't say enough good things about the food. The place is really busy, so service can be hit or miss.

This was my first time at a Ramen place so I was a little hesitant to try it. I am so glad I did. It was very busy but we got a seat right away probably because there were only two of us. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were good too. I will definitely eat here again when in Philly

Delicious!

Visited on a Thursday evening. This is a tiny place. Be prepared to wait. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. Staff was prompt and courteous. Definitely worth the wait. We each tried something different. Large servings and delicious, especially the pork. Highly recommend!

Expect a wait- they take your cell number and call you when your seat is ready. Delicious udon, spicy edamame, tempura shrimp. Prompt friendly service . They also have traditional katsu on rice dishes. The pork buns are absolutely delicious

Authentic and awesome

Cold noodles are a MUST as are CRISPY pork buns and any one of the ramen varieties. Come hungry and BYOB! Small place with huge flavor. Service is classy too.

Tasty food! Pork was delicious, but it was a bit fatty; it was cooked excellently so that the far was melting away, just be aware of this if you're finicky about fat. The cold spicy noodle bowl with chicken was my favorite! Shrimp tempura was absolutely perfect!
