Great bar. Excellent food. Cool vibe. Nice neighborhood place with lots of good choices, including the mussels, kale salad, branzino, and pork chop, and friendly attentive service.

My husband and I were staying at the Beacon Hotel in New York. We googled nearby restaurants and this came up. We weren't sure what to expect and it was great. We ate at the bar and the barman looked after us really well. The food was absolutely yummy and we had a lovely wine as well. One of our sides was forgotten and they didn't end up charging us for it which we didn't expect. Highly recommend this place as we travel a lot and this was good value for money and great food.

Rabbit Cavalatti great sauce and the gnocchi like pasta is tangy and chewy. Octopus salad chargrilled and soft. Oh yeah the mini banana cakes are deliciously free!

We ate their mostly because it was close to Central Park and to the Beacon Theater. I eat organic and grass fed so I chose the venue for those reasons. The food was very good. The servers did their best to accommodate us.

Great if you are going around the corner to Beacon Theater The food was a really pleasant surprise Big juicy meatballs Best chicken I have had in awhile Nice warm service....

We went as a group sponsored by our investment bank. The food was selected in advance. Everything was delicious. We had the Cauliflower to start along with vegetables with assorted dips and the Blistered Shishito peppers. All were great, so tasty For the salad we had the baby kale Caesar salad. I never had Kale before, I really enjoyed it. The Burrata was to die for. The main course was the Ristto with mushrooms Seared Atlantic Salmon and hanger steak Fritis. All were serve hot and very tasty. For dessert we had the chocolate warm cake, apple cobbler with gelato and a ricotta cheese cake. All were excellent The wine was Pinot noir was perfect with the mail

We were looking for a spot to have dinner and decided to try out Tessa. Two of us ordered 4 different items and shared them all. Everything was tasty. We sent the beef dish back to the kitchen because it came out well-done and we ordered it rare but they were very nice about it.

Sometimes you go to a restaurant with good reviews and your not too impressed, well this place was spot on, cool vibe and ambience, good knowledgeable server. The meatballs were brilliant big portion too, also enjoyed the gnocchi with ricotta and meat sauce most meals can be ordered in a smaller portion which is great if you're not too hungry. Would strongly suggest reservations popular, would return.

The restaurant is nice and the service OK. But the food is not very tasty. I ordered a Truffle Risotto (winter truffle, Sottocenere cheese, Parmigiano, according to the menu) and it was terrible. It was rice with "nothing." The truffles became some drops of truffle oil. I don´t recommend a restaurant that does not know how to prepare the dishes they sell at very high prices. 29 dols. for a bunch of rice?

I have not been to Tessa in awhile, but went back when a friend suggested. I forgot how good the food and atmosphere is at this UWS spot. They have gluten free options, although I would suggest they mark on the menu. I like that they have appetizer portions of some of the main dishes, as they are a great size after sharing starters.

Tessa is a nice little restaurant located on Central Park West, only a few blocks from the Beacon theater in NYC. Their menu is principally Mediterranean with a mix of French and Italian cuisines. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful Friday night pre-show dinner this weekend and found both the service and the cuisine to be delightful. The Drunken Mussels was hands-down a delicious appetizer - very fresh and tasteful. Our entrees were also great choices - the Branzino was served hot on a bed of Broccoli Rabe and Potatoes, and the Capellini was lush with fresh shrimp and mouth watering clams and garlic. Our server, Fernando, provided excellent service the whole time. Highly recommended!

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience at Tessa prior to a concert at the Beacon Theatre. The service is attentive, professional and friendly...the atmosphere is casual and they have a very unique ceiling comprised of what appeared to be black iron gating. We split a Tessa salad while enjoying several pieces of their hard crusted bread and a glass of the house cab (1/2 price till 6 pm). Our entree's were the Rabbit Cavatelli and the Artichoke Risotto which were both well seasoned and absolutely delicious! We finished off our meals with three scoops of ice cream which we shared and a cup of coffee. The pacing of the meal was just right and we look forward to returning to Tessa again real soon!

Definitely don’t waste your money. The walls are lined with brick which is the worst acoustic material you can have. I sat across a small table from my wife and we had to yell to one another in order to be heard. The tables to the left and right of ours were literally 6 inches apart. We had to move both tables so I could exit. The conversations to my left and to my right became part of ours regardless if we wanted it. We had a couple of overpriced drinks and some very flat tasting hors d’oeuvres. That was enough we needed to leave at that point. Again, don’t waste your money.

I loved the architecture and decoration of the place. The service was great, they are super kind, I was there with kids. The food was very good. Good find after visiting the museum of natural history.

Tessa is convenient because it's open later. It offers reliable Italian, but is uninspired. Very popular with couples.

We came here for lunch and it was a great tasty surprise! My family ate the hamburger which they all thought was very good and I had one of their salad but could not help eating a lot of my husband wonderful French fries. I liked the decor and the staff was very nice.

Fantastic experience. Food was delicious. Atmosphere and service couldn't have been better. We'll be back!

Great drinks and busy bar. Food is excellent, but not a huge variety. Pricey but worth the treat. Dessert was rich, chocolaty and amazing! Great UWS place to meet friends.

Finally was able to try out Tessa and so happy I did! Fine selection of wine, happy hour includes Sangiovese on some days which happens to be my favorite red so this place automatically had my approval. My friend and I got risotto and the lamb meatballs for an appetizer, delicious. This place is a little pricy but so is everything else on the UWS. The difference between Tessa and anywhere else is that it's worth it!

Had dinner with friends on a Sunday night. The food was average and overpriced. The chairs (kind of metal folding) were very hard & uncomfortable to sit. The opera cake dessert was dry and terrible!

A delayed transit into NYC by NJ Transit placed a planned dinner in jeopardy. We called Tessa to let them now we would be an hour late and should probably cancel dinner because there would be limited time to dine. We were told that our table would be held for us and we would be served appropriately to make the 7pm show at the Beacon Theater. Clearly, Tessa has been through this drill before. When we arrived drinks were served immediately and an assortment of small dishes (some from entree list) were placed and began to be served in 10 minutes, including a soup, a fish dish, pasta, meat balls, and duck pastrami sliders. All of the dishes were very good and prepared innovatively. The service was pleasant, with smiles, and without delay. We must return to enjoy the ambience and desserts!

Utter disregard for customer satisfaction or their promises. I will NEVER return. Promised a round table and even TOOK A CREDIT CARD to guarantee, but surprise surprise gave our table to some other party, and completely didn't care about the promise they had made to us. When the table became free, before we ordered, we asked to move and they said no b/c it was reserved for somebody else.. WHAT?? what about us??? it was reserved for us. WHY were they willing to honor everyone else's reservation but NOT ours. C'MON get with the program.. b4 you promise the table to TWO different parties, make sure you didn't already promise it to somebody else. GET A BOOK or better yet a computer program. This was a very special birthday celebration (4 days in 5 days) and 3 people at the table were over 80. A round table was very important so all could be seen and heard. The elderly are hard of hearing. If the table wasn't available we would have had the option to go elsewhere! but you denied us that option when you promised the table but didnt deliver! Also very noisy and unenjoyable. Better food elsewhere.. Spend your money somewhere else!

Great food, ambience, and staff. LOVED every member of the team I met, all went above and beyond and gave great recommendations. Duck was some of the best I have ever had. LOVED the charcutier board and scallops on point. Ate here 2x during my stay in NYC.

The food is creative and delicious, the waitstaff is attentive and professional, but this place is painfully loud. Seriously unhealthy.

Not only is the food so delicious but we had excellent service and loved the atmosphere!! Unique dishes and good wine!!

Me and my wife went there to shelter from the heavy rain after visiting the AMNH. We just wanted something to eat. We had no expectations. But we where pleasantly supprised. High quality burgers, good beer, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

An expensive choice for what is served. Good fare and good choice of drinks. Service was attentive and professional.

I ordered the $25 Wagyu Burger, which was supposed to come with caramelized onions, bacon and cheese. The burger was tasteless, the onions were almost nonexistent and the bun was dry. The rosemary fries were nicely crisp on the outside and soft inside. But the burger was so uninteresting, i ate only 1/3 of it and couldn't even entice my husband to finish it. I understand though that the salads and pastas are better.

Tessa has a varied, delicious menu and a very adult, sophisticated crowd. We like to sit at the bar and order small plates and drinks, although the full table experience is remarkable also.

We chose Tessa as it's within walking distance of the Beacon Theatre (yay Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band). Great variety of choices for appetizers or a full meal. Cucumber Gazpacho was flavorful with good body, refreshing on a hot day. Sugar Snap Pea salad had a bright variety of flavors and textures. Steak with mash potatoes was juicy and well prepared. Reserving a dinner time 2 hours prior to show time gave us enough time to enjoy a leisurely dinner and get to the Beacon in plenty of time.

This brand new place is bound to be a gem in the neighborhood. Opening onto the street felt like sitting in a European café. Trendy and pretty inside with an old world feel. Great happy hour half-prices on wines and cocktails. A specialty seems to be charcuterie boards. Beautiful presentation and nice selections.

Four of us ordered different entrees; all were great. Not a huge menu but a wide selection. VG wine list with reasonabl prices.

Amsterdam Avenue is filled with dining options of all kinds. Tessa nicely fills the bill when you are looking for good food, an understated classy atmosphere and professional service. The noise level is not optimum for a romantic evening, but if you are out for a pleasant evening, look no further.

There is a great selection of food on this menu. The staff were friendly and helpful when selecting options. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and everything tastes delicious, especially the lamb meatballs. I'll be back!

Just over a year to the day, my wife and I (in NYC for a concert at the Beacon Theater), returned to Tessa...having thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last June and then written a glowing review. I'm happy to again report--Tessa has not missed a beat! General manager Patrick gave us a warm welcome back (emphatically, this engaging young man truly knows how to run a finely tuned restaurant!), and our waiter, Dalim, was attentive, professional, and eager to please. Even Fernando, our waiter from last year, stopped at our table to say hello. The entire staff, in keeping with the invitingly warm yet hip decor, always seems to sport a smile. Cocktails are amply poured and reasonably priced; the menu and wine list price points provide excellent value. Most importantly, of course, the food continues to shine, along with it's presentation. It all happens seemingly effortlessly given the packed pre-theater dining room. We shared an outstanding drunken mussels appetizer (Patrick had graciously pointed out it was more than ample for two). My Berkshire pork chop was huge, perfectly grilled, sensational. My wife's sea scallops special was equally fabulous. Coffees are "two cuts above" the ordinary. And desserts are sicko. Believe me, this now second rave revue is deserved in every respect. Tessa...still firing on all cylinders. You really just gotta go! D. Slater New City

After researching places online for Thanksgiving Dinner in New York we found this gem, and that's exactly what it is. We arrived at approximately 7pm for our reservation, and although our table was not ready we were taken to the bar where we ordered a couple of cocktails. Our first impression of the place was, WOW! It's dimly lit and has a bit of a rustic feel, overall a very hip and cool vibe. We dined on the set Thanksgiving Dinner menu and accompanied this with the wine pairing. I can't fault any of the courses, every one was absolutely delicious and the wines they were accompanied by were perfect. The service was also great, our waiter was very attentive and nothing was too much of a problem. Since we have returned home to Scotland we have been telling everyone how great the place is and we have a few friends who are travelling to NY in the coming months and they are looking forward to checking it out. Until next time Tessas, thank you!

Went to Tessa for dinner - I had been there for brunch -see below. Great dinner. Great service. And despite being packed with after work crowd, it was easy to carry in a conversation. Food was well prepared. Good selection of wines by the glass. Will definitely return. Easier review: Great place for weekend brunch. I had some business to transact in a sociable setting. Tessa was perfect. Good service, excellent menu and food well prepared. Quiet enough room to be heard. I will return sometime to try their dinner menu. But brunch was terrific.

The meal was really good, but if you're a bit specific on what you want, the service becomes less nicer... i'm French, and was born in one of the truffle area so i know a bit about truffles, but this server made such an inappropriate remark to my sister that i thought i was going after his balls but she told me not too because it's one of her favourite restaurant in town, this guy was so rude !!!!!!!!!

What a fabulous find! Authentic Mediterranean fare expertly prepared and presented in very generous portions and affordable prices!

This restaurant is cozy and elegant at the same time. I love the decor. The food is consistently good. The grilled octopus appetizer is a must! Sitting at the bar is delightful as well. Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere.

We very much enjoyed our dinner. The red wine was very pleasant. The service was good and courteous. I absolutely will go back!!😍

There were four of us at dinner, but we had to yell and/or cup our hands behind our ears in order to converse with the person seated across the table. (And we weren't even near the bar, where the music was turned up high.) I gave up and spoke mostly to my friend seated at my left. I'll have to ask my wife what she and the friend opposite me talked about all night. The food, billed as "modern Mediterranean," was good...pretty much the Italy part of the Mediterranean rather than the eastern end. Wildly busy on a Wednesday night.

We took our family out to dinner here on the recommendation of our daughter. It was a wonderful experience; great food and wonderful atmosphere. (Although it Is very dark inside, so if you have poor eyesight and need good lighting in order to read a menu, make sure to have a small flashlight along with you!) Our appetizer was the gazpacho soup, which was excellent (although different...more creamy than most gazpachos). We also ordered the olives and the cheese plate for the table, both of which were excellent suggestions. For my main course, I had the roast duckling, which I thought was wonderful...one of the best dcuklings I've ever had. It came with poached carrots, zucchini and other veggies, all in a light sauce that perfectly complemented the dish. I thoroughly enjoyed it (and it was an ample portion!). Dinner for the five of us (for appetizers, main course, but no alcoholic drinks or desserts) came to around $300, including the tip. It was well worth it, and in line with dinners in other NY City restaurants. I would love to go back for future visits.

We were jet-lagged and at least 24 hours into our day and Tessa was near our hotel and open. Having had a sort of a meal on the flight we weren't over hungry. We shared the meatball starter and it was 5 times bigger than we expected. Big glass of wine, though.

Indulged install plates to share. The beet salad and burrata came first and the wonderful combo flavors in each were so great. Melon and the supple and subtle burrata. And the beet and tangy goat cheese. Then the drunken mussels in a layered jus that the fine bread was made to sop up and lamb meatballs with a great little kick of heat. Meyer lemon panna cotta to finish which included a lemon sorbetto. Fab. I loved my mezcal cocktail too.

I booked a reservation for my boyfriend's graduation lunch at Tessa after the restaurant that I had initially booked spontaneously closed three days before the event. I was holding my breath that the restaurant would be suitable for such a special occasion, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The wait staff was accommodating and patient, the food was spectacular, and the prices are probably the most reasonable in the city. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. Strongly encourage anyone interested in a reasonably priced yet elegant and enjoyable afternoon or night out in the city to try Tessa!

Great little place! Went for a late dinner after seeing Giselle on the recommendation of one of our friends who lives in the city. We had several of the shared plates and loved them all. eclectic menu that was executed well.

We came and to our disappointment heard the kitchen only offered tapas and a burger at the time we were there (approx 3pm on a weekday). The burgers were very nice, absolutely no complaints about the food. Still, one would expect something other than burger on the menu besides finger food / tapas.

I've been to Tessa with my family to celebrate a landmark event. I've been with a friend to thank him for his help. I've been with a party of twelve old friends holding a mini-reunion. I've been there on my own, sitting at the bar watching a game sipping wine and ordering off the menu. It is without question the best restaurant in my neighborhood -- I live literally around the corner and it is my go to place in any circumstance. When people ask me for a restaurant recommendation for a Beacon show, no hesitation -- Tessa. You can start off with a glass or bottle off their estimable win list, or a creatively different cocktail. I've never gone with their shared plates -- the cauliflower plate is unparalleled, the meatballs are superb. The menu changes, so it's hard to recommend specific dishes. Last time, I had an amazing plate of ricotta gnocchi with wild mushrooms and tarragon, and I hope to see it on the menu again. The pasta dishes are always available in two sizes, the small size giving you room to sample a variety of great shared plates, apps and sides. The protein plates -- in my groups, everyone has loved what they've gotten, although these are pricy (but portions are sizable). I had the pork chop last time, not something I order all that often, and it was perfect, complemented by a tasty escarole and bean side. Dessert? Don't waste your time looking at the menu, just order the bomboloni. Eight fresh, hot donuts, four glazed, four filled with chocolate hazelnut cream. Every time I've been to Tessa, the party to my left ordered it, the party of my right ordered it, and I ordered it. You can go next door to DD and get twice as many donuts for the price, but these are twenty times as good. If you're on the upper west side, go to Tessa. You will love it.

A hard to decipher boring entrance can be deceiving as this railroad car layout restaurant opens at the back into a comfortable brick-lined dining area. The service is friendly and super efficient and the American menu quite delicious even if manageable. A good beer and wine list adds to what is a smart meal. Place is often packed on weekday evenings by locals, a good sign.

We LOVED the food here. We also loved the atmosphere and decor. Three of us went for a business dinner. We had reservations and were seated right away even thought the restaurant was packed. We started with the trio sampler of hummus, tomato salad and a yogurt dip. It was delicious and different than just having hummus. I had the duck breast, cooked perfectly to medium rare, and seasoned so well. My dinner guests had the rabbit cavatelli and the special short ribs over polenta. Both said their meals were delicious. We were baffled by the service we received. No one came to our table for at least 15-20 minutes. Finally we called over a server and she took our drink order and eluded to the fact she was not our server but would be happy to help. About another 15 minutes later, our server came over and gave us the specials. Then, the first server took our dinner order, about 10 minutes later. Since we had plenty to discuss, we were not in a hurry, but we felt that no one person had given us their full attention. Because the food was so good and we enjoyed the vibe, I would try Tessa again.

We wandered by, poked our heads in and couldn't resist - it's really beautiful inside. No reservation, so we had dinner at the bar. The experience was amazing - probably our favorite resto visit in NYC. Everything you want in a low-key, upscale resto/bar was here, from the decor to the food. Unlike some of the other upscale places in the area, the staff here were very relaxed and nice while still doing a great job. Some of the best drinks we had in town were here as well - just a very memorable time.

TERRIFIC. We were a group of 7, 3 generations on college graduation weekend, and we were the old guys. It made me feel young to come into a packed bar of 40 year olds watching hockey and comfortable to be seated by a lovely young woman who took us to our table in the back. The women ordered appetizers to share.....terrific. I had a hanger steak and substituted roasted asparagus for fries. Service was terrific. As one of us is a "regular", we were sent desserts "on the house". I'm told they were excellent. Under watchful owner eyes, Tessa is a big winner.

Walked by Tessa late on a Monday night while searching for a good spot for dinner. Ended up having the meal of our NYC trip. The mushroom risotto was unreal, lamb meatballs were better than my nonna's and the Branzino was perfect. Lucky for us my fiancé wasn't hungary so we were able to finish off the Duck which was prepared perfectly (color, texture and chewiness). Always skeptical ordering Duck but Tessa knocked it out of the park! We were the last to leave the resto Monday night. Wait staff was polite and helpful and never rushed us to leave. Will definitely hit this place up again next time we visit NYC.

Very nicely decorated upscale Italian restaurant a few blocks from the beacon theater if you are so inclined to be going there. We split the pasta with little neck clams and shrimp and kale which was cooked al dente and very tasty. A little heavy on the sauce. we each had the chicken which was outstanding with root vegetables and couscous. Attentive staff and I restaurant that I recommend.

Just arrived to nyc and was banking on a quick hummus and pita at Pita Palace. It was closed so we stumbled upon this little gem. The cherry blossoms center pieces made me hopeful for spring. The food was delicious.

My wife and I went to Tessa before seeing Jerry Seinfeld at the Beacon Theatre, which is just around the corner from the restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal. The grilled octopus appetizer was out of this world, and the pastrami sliders were very tasty. The butternut squash soup was a hit. My main dish was veal and it was delicious. My wife really liked her bronzino stuffed with brussel sprouts. I would recommend this restaurant if seeing a show at the Beacon.

We visited Tessa with family & friends on 27th May. Very cool decor and atmosphere. Excellent quality food, good portions & very nice wine also. Great service & 'banter' with the Tessa team. Perfect evening for our family/friends catch-up. Definitely a 5/5 score, could not find fault at all. Simply superb & the roasted squash (not butternut but courgette) was second to none! Recommended!

We ate here with native New Yorkers on a Saturday, while not spectacular a very pleasant meal. We had made a reservation but arrived 20 minutes late and had to eat outside on the terrace (street sidewalk) not a problem as a warm night. Service was quick & polite. Food ranges from various starters to decent mains e.g duck which was excellent. Good wine selection. All in all a nice place to eat away from the main hustle / tourist eateries. But do make a reservation.

I read an earlier review that this is an italian restaurant. It is not, it’s greek, although they do throw in a cacio e pepe on the menu just to confuse. The food is very good. Portions are small to medium. So the bill gets high to fill up. Wine by the glass is around $17, which seems a little high. We had the fig flatbread - was good, but not much fig. The octopus appetizer was very good. Entree: branzino. Good but small portion. Cacio e pepe. I ordered the appetizer portion because I wasn’t very hungry. Good thing. The app size is tiny. Even if the entree size is double the portion, it wouldn’t be enough. Overall, though, the food was quite good. the restaurant was very crowded. And they stuffed people in everywhere. I was jammed between the wall and a large table of people, with barely enough room for my legs. And the table stuck in my stomach. I should have asked to move, but didn’t. Even those seated at the bar looked like they were stacked up so close that no one could move their elbows. The best and most comfortable tables are the high tops in the front next to the bar. A good restaurant, that will run you big $$.

We met friends for dinner on the recommendation of my son’s friend. I live 10 blocks or so away and had never been here. The restaurant is beautifully done in modern tones and exposed brick with an interesting ceiling. There is a big bar area with a bar and high tops and a restaurant with tables in the back. The noise level is loud primarily because the restaurant is packed but it gets better later in the evening. That being said no one complained because the service was excellent. Thank you to the lovely young lady from New Zealand. I didn’t think ordering would be easy on first look because I always have to watch my calories. We ordered several things to share as it was our first visit. I have to say the food was consistently delicious and perfectly prepared . The roasted cauliflower on a bed of mint yoghurt sauce was perfectly cooked and we loved the mint. I had the salad with sliced apples and cranberries and nuts which was large enough to share but good enough to eat the whole bowl. I had a piece of my husbands roasted chicken also perfectly cooked. Our friends had the hamburger ( extremely impressive with French fries) and branzino. My husband had the mini donuts and I broke down and had the hot chocolate served in a glass mug with a huge marshmallow and an extra infusion of chocolate. Just yum. Our friends insisted on treating us which was extremely nice. It’s on the expensive side for a westside restaurant but aside from the noise I felt the food was so good it was worth it. Thanks for a great evening.

I will start off with what I liked and then get to what should be avoided. Among the appetizers listed is "Tessa Meatballs" (5 per order). They were served with a tasty tomato sauce and were among the best meatball dishes that I have ever had. My main course was a bland duck which, if I was blindfolded, I would not have known what I was eating. The other thing to avoid (during this very cold winter) is a dining table that is below a cold breeze. That CORNER TABLE is the FIRST TABLE for two you see on the right hand side just after you walk up the 4 or 5 steps.

To be clear, this is not about the food...... A couple of weeks ago, a few of my buddies and I stopped at Tessa for a drink. We had a good time and afterwards stepped outside for a bit of fresh air. They have a small outside area with a few tables and a low fence-like stands. That was where we were relaxing and chatting. After that, I hailed a cab to take me home. It wasn;t until I was about half way on the way home when, to my horror, I discovered that I was missing my credit cards (plus a bunch of other plstic which I carry with a money clip). Luckily, I had some alternative payment methods at home that I used with the cabbie. As it happened, my credit cards must have somehow slipped out of pocket and landed in that gated area. I called Tessa the very next morning and - hallelujah - they had all my cards AND the clip. The manager that I spoke with told me not to worry (after dutifully confiming my identity :-) and to come pick it up whenever I could. You can imagine how relieved I was having almost lost practically all my daily tools! The folks at Tessa are terrific! I promise that I will come back and will sample every single item on the menu (and will pay the full price as my sign of appreciation). Then you can expect a real review from me

After a couple of years.... But just as good! Great room, great service, great food, excellent wines. Not the cheapest, but far from expensive so no complaints at all. I'll be going back, I'm sure. Mark

Great atmosphere and service. Our brunch was flavorful, and satisfying. Drinks were also very good. I loved the HANGOVER CURE. My daughter loved the chocolate tart.

Had dinner here before a show at the Beacon, it’s super convenient to the theater. Started with the mushroom flatbread app, it was to die for. Main entree was spaghetti scampi, outstanding!! Others had the duck and branzino, both excellent. Desserts were all delicious too!!Can’t wait to go to another show at the Beacon so I can eat at Tessa’s again, will definitely return!

We ate at Tessa on a rainy Saturday. Our group of 5 were seated quickly. Service seemed slow. We ordered the Burger, Avocado Toast, Burrata and a sticky bun. Everything was okay, seemed to lack a lot of flavor.

We had a great dinner here at 5:00 on Saturday. Our appetizers were nice. Entrees were very good. Three of us had the brick chicken, and we all recommend it! Desserts were great, too. I am a dessert person. The donuts were delicious. Hope to come back!

The bronzino was delicious and fresh. The mussels were good. The bread is nice and hot and very tasty. The service was impeccable. Our server and all staff were pleasant and they gave my sister and I great recommendations. Salvador was very friendly and attentive while serving our wine bottle. The restaurant is following covid safety measures. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or with family. They have indoor and outdoor seating.

We went to Tessa for dinner before a show at the Beacon Theater, and it was terrific. Great, fun vibe. Wall to wall people, mostly young, brick walls, noisy, upbeat. The food and service were excellent. We told them we only had so much time before the show, and they made sure we got finished in time. The pappardelle was outstanding, as was the ricotta gnocchi. Meatballs were a little disappointing. Overall, definitely a place to check out, and we'll be back on our next visit to the city.

Been for brunch and dinner - both are delicious! Food comes quickly, drinks are good and strong, and the desserts are fabulous! There's also a semi-private room in the back with a long table for larger parties, or parties with guests that are hard of hearing.

This is a great option for dinning in the UWS. Centrally located on Amsterdam, Tessa offers a great range of Italian cuisine. The rabbit ragu pappardelle was outstanding, the fish was good and the gnocchi bolognese was great. The wine selection was good. Dinner will run about $80-$100 pp.

Four of us had four different dishes and we were all pleased. The lemon linguini was delicious. Others had salads and other pastas. Wines very good. A bit noisy even though we sat in the back. Crowded.

We had a great lunch at Tessa. They were very accomodating to food allergies. Food and service was excellent. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. We'll be back when we are in town again.

I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and I've eaten at Tessa five or six times. I've eaten at the bar three times, at a table twice and today I again ate at the bar. On each occasion the service was top notch, the food fresh and tasty and the ambience just right. Lots of buzz but not over-the-top noise. Here's an example of what I like: I asked the server at the bar about a pasta dish I'd had with truffles two years ago and he didn't remember the dish. He brought over the manager who remembered it, chatted about it and said they might be doing it again in the Fall. This is the kind of service I love. I love the experience that is Tessa. I'll be back real soon.

Extremely limited options on Sunday brunch menu. Does not offer a lunch menu option on Sunday, so it is 1:30 and most options are eggs. I decided on the flatbread only to learn that they "were out of it". So I Ordered a flattened chicken salad dish that was awful. Was supposed to have mixed greens but they were all stems. They charged $4 for a minuscule Coke and when I asked for a refill they charged me another $4!!!

As an out-of-towner, it can be intimidating and overwhelming to pick a restaurant. We happened upon Tessa when headed to the Grand Bazzar flea market and could not have been better blessed by serendipity. Brunch was delicious and reasonably priced. Try the Benedict with the arancini as the base, inspired. Service was great. It was a little loud but not bad compared to other places in the city.

Outstanding food. Try the figs and burrata appetizer. Great service and setting. For dinner I had the scampi and it was great!

Went here for drinks and it was a great experience. Bartender was an absolute doll and hilarious, great atmosphere and decor . Wine was superb! Can’t wait to go back and try the food.

Despite average food, this place was packed on a Friday evening. The bar had a friendly vibe with a mix of regulars and first timers. The service was brisk and professional but wait staff had no time or interest in getting to know the patrons. The salads and soups were ok but nothing note worthy. The truffle risotto was bland and very thick and sticky. The Osso Buco was well done but didn't have a lot of flavor. Desserts were ok but far from memorable. If you're looking for a popular neighborhood restaurant that has a good lively atmosphere, but unremarkable food, you'll be fine here.

What an amazing restaurant. My wife and I had a trully wonderful dining experience. I would recommend you book in advance as it is very popular. It had a extensive range on the menu and any special dietary needs could be catered for. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere great. We finished our meal with a selection of donuts for dessert. They were scrumptious. An excellent venue for a special New York dining experience.

Al Fresco cocktails were delightful at half price happy hour, weekly from 5-7 Wonderful Watermelon Martini was most refreshing. Trip to the powder room led thru a beautifully appointed bar and restaurant. Friend reports that food, though pricey, was delicious.

Its a place i can see going regularly with a friend, sit at the bar--enjoy decent food and good atmosphere. But definitely not a place to have conversation with more than one person. We did change tables once to a quieter area, but you look around and there is very little to dampen the sound. All hard surfaces, not even a tablecloth. Food is ok--not great, but good enough. I may go back with a friend sit at the bar, get a few bites and a glass of wine on a Monday night.

Four of us had dinner and were most impressed with Tessa. Located on the upper west side of Manhattan on Amsterdam between 76 and 77. Must get reservations due to demand. Fine mixture of appetizers, small plates and boards, pasta, risotto, great fish and steaks. Servers were most attentive and careful to get us served in time for us to take in a concert. Highly recommended, no reservations at all.

What a wonderful Birthday ´s evening .. Thanks for your kindness ! Meals very good. Very Nice place … we will come back again !

went for a bite after a matinee and although they weren't offering a full dinner menu we were happy with the Mezze dip platter, a pasta dish and salad. the wines special was nice at $6 and yes the pour is not generous but nobody pours a full glass anymore. Fresh, well prepared, delicious food. Sat at a table across from the bar and it was perfect.

Why do restaurants pay so little attention to noise dampening surfaces? The interior of this brick & wood establishment may be attractive to look at, but if you are expecting to have a nice meal without having to yell at your table mate(s), forget it. So much for the "atmosphere"! We had two entrees, one very good, the other returned. The grilled branzino (are there any left anywhere in the sea?!) was perfectly prepared and presented. Would recommend it without any hesitation. The pasta dish Lobster Rye Trumpet was a horror. Undercooked ( NOT al-dente) pasta, thrown together with a single tough chunk of lobster meat and a weird assortment of other ingredients served barely warm. A dish that sounded good on paper, but awful in its execution. It was returned. The manager came to the table to apologize for the dish and served a complimentary dessert . The service was fine. With all of the good dining options available in the area of the Upper West Side, I would not recommend this one.

Poorly managed from the top down, I tripped over the hose they had draped across the sidewalk while cleaning the on-street dining area in the morning and fell straight down onto the cement. Luckily, I saved myself with my hands and was not seriously hurt, but it was a pretty big fall and it was upsetting and not without some pain to my hands and shoulder. It could have easily been avoided by taping the hose down or putting up cones, or numerous other ways of addressing safety in public. There was no manager on duty to speak with. However, when I called to speak with the restaurant, their beverage manger just said I'm sorry. Then he was silent. Then he asked what do you want me to do? I asked to speak with higher management and the only thing he would volunteer was the general info@ email address. I could name this person I spoke with but, just like there was obviously no training provided to the worker cleaning the outside area, it's obvious this beverage manager has not been trained properly to respond to problems. Someone should buy the team Danny Meyer books. I live in the neighborhood and have looked at the menu and it never looked very appealing compared to other options. I worked in the industry and have a culinary background and the menu looks typical and boring. Now, here was the opportunity to not only find out the full story, take corrective action and assure me this would be handled, they also could have gained a customer for life at this point by inviting me to come by and show them what happened, maybe offer a drink or a dessert or a meal. What does that cost compared to leaving a potential customer angry and bothering to lower their rating? Based on my experience, I will never eat here and will make sure my numerous friends and contacts in the area know about my experience and avoid the restaurant at all costs. Based on my experience today, it appears that management is not present, does not care at all about the customer experience and they are just milking the people in the neighborhood that don't know that much about food. If you eat here you are just out of good ideas on where to dine. Hopefully, they will take care to be more safe with their hose and avoid hurting someone more fragile.

It has never happened to me, as it happened in Tessa yesterday, that while I am immersed in a conversation with friends and not noticing, a waiter takes my 3/4 full plate (and my husband's half full plate) without even drawing our attention and asking if we want the "remains" to be wrapped. I was astonished, no other word, to not find my plate. When I asked what happened to my food, a waiter offered (twice) to prepare for me a new entrée; but at that point, we just wanted to leave the place, which is extremely noisy and unjustifiably expensive. But you know what? I only ate a few pieces of my pasta, so who knows, maybe it was excellent.

Lovely setting, delicious food, fantastic ambience. Prompt service too and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Creative cocktails, a super wine list and Mediterranean/Italian food choices that you will thoroughly enjoy. Started with the lentil soup which was excellent , had the ricotta gnocchi and my date had the salmon and a side of Brussels all were executed to perfection and with top notch service from Fallon our night could not have been better !! We will be back for sure.

My work colleagues and I came here for dinner for a work-related event. We made the reservation a few weeks in advance, but we were placed at the back of the restaurant in a perfect space for large groups. This would be great for any large group, regardless of occasion. The service was brilliant. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was lovely. Given that we were at the back of the restaurant, I didn't think I would get an idea about the overall vibe of the restaurant, but the relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere radiated throughout the restaurant. I would highly recommend Tessa for groups or couples. I will be returning.

We went here for dinner prior to a concert at the Beacon Theater based in Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Everything from the atmosphere, the staff, to the food was terrific. Third generation bartender Mike was awesome and his drinks and food suggestions were spot on. We'll be sure to come back when we visit NYC.

Dinner with friends - great menu with choices for anyone and solid wine list. Excellent service. We enjoyed appetizers that we shared and then ordered. Managed to find room for desert!

We had a lovely evening at Tessa's for our very special anniversary dinner. Arrived 15 minutes early, but they seated us immediately, away from the bar as we requested. Wanting to save room for dessert, we skipped appetizers, but enjoyed our entrees very much: Branzino and Long Island Duck. The shared baked alaska topped off our meal nicely. Service was excellent---friendly, attentive, but not omnipresent. Very reasonable for UWS.

Wonderful evening- excellent well prepared and interesting presentation. The wait staff is super professional but not overly solicitous. Excellent menu options

Service in the dinning room was very good but food wasn't up to the expectations. Setting was rustic Manhattan style but acoustics were loud. Prices normal for the area.

Visited on our first night in NYC and was very impressed. Service was excellent as was the food. Cheese and meat board was great. Lamb saddle special awesome. Seafood Pasta beautiful. Wine list was also great we opted for a nice bottle of Douro. 100% recommend this little Jem.

With a million choices why would someone go here three nights in a row? It's fantastic - terrific food, a great bar...and bartenders, cool decor, an enticing Happy Hour, all at a very fair price.

Wonderful service and great food! We actually returned here during our stay. Try the meatballs and the apple crostata. Really good!

We went for my birthday dinner - 6:30 on a Saturday night so I expected that it would be busy and loud but you couldn’t hear the person sitting right next to you, forget about across the table. Brick, wood and metal- not a thing to absorb the noise. That pretty much overshadowed the food for us and we skipped desert to get out of there. My friend and I both got the kale salad. Didn’t think much of it - too much kale, where were the almonds? Had a bitter taste. Her hanger steak and fries were the best thing ordered. I had fish which was good and my husband enjoyed his green salad and the 1 vegetarian entree on the menu. Wouldn’t return with all the other options.

Stayed nearby at NYLO hotel. Wandered over for a late-night dinner at the bar. It’s a dark, warm, yummy, proper-feeling loungy Restaurant/bar. High end and contemporary, but not snooty or awkward. I loved the food (drunken mussels and fried artichoke small plates). Wine was excellent; bartenders attentive and smooth. A perfect spot, and I never even sat at a table for a proper meal. I would go there every night if I stayed nearby again.

No Tessa is not an Italian restaurant. It's an American restaurant. The menu is eclectic, but nothing over the top. The presentation, the tastes, the smells, the MEATBALLS! OMG. The best balls in town. Sorry, but they are! The decor is industrial but not really, the bar is roomy but not too, the dining room is gorgeously lit. The staff are one of the best in NY. From the smiling hostess, to the great bartenders, the house management, this place is very welcoming, the people are very nice and the food is terrific.

This was a lovely place to have brunch with friends. The food was excellent, the service was charming and efficient, and the restaurant was most accommodating when we had to make changes in the numbers in the party.

Tessa was tremendous. The ambiance is very nice but it is topped by the food and service. Everything we ordered was tremendous. Cacio e Pepe was outstanding as was the Rigatoni. The Beet Salad as well as the Tessa Salad were also excellent. Probably would order the smaller size for the entrees next time as there was more than enough. Will definitely return..

Came here on a trip to the West side and totally loved it. Tried the Gnocchi and my friend tried the duck - both were superb! The atmosphere was fantastic, buzzy and just a great selection on the menu. Would definitely recommend. Wine was also really great and the service very attentive and friendly.

We walked in and sat at the bar to have a drink there first before heading to our table. The bartender was friendly, nice and efficient. The atmosphere was fun. Then we sat at a table and our wonderful server, Brinkley, was great. The food was so delicious! The service, the wine choices - just everything about this evening was grand. I only wish I lived in the neighborhood. And, this is how good it was: I told the manager before leaving. Who doesn't want to be told that they have a great restaurant and fabulous employees.

Impeccable service, beautiful atmosphere & delicious food. We had the chicken Paillard, 2 ultimate breakfast sandwiches and a build your own eggs benedict dish. Deelish!! Big wine list & creative juice drinks. We'll be back to try their french toast for brunch!

The place is nice, great service and excellent food. We went for brunch and the menu was healthy and with a nice variety. The final surprise was an outstanding panacotta!

Consistently good food… Right near the Beacon theater ...great for before a show.. Right across from the JCC which has the movie program… Also great before a movie. Excellent chicken Perfect salmon and pasta

Ate here earlier in Oct. Nice lay out to the restaurant. Food was good, beers, wine too. Our server asked us about dessert, just as we pushed our dinner plates away. Said we'd give it 2 minutes. So, 2 minutes later, she returns enquiring. Told her we had just finished eating, and that WE would call her when ready to order dessert. That worked. It's not something unique to this restaurant but definitely is very prevalent in NY. And with several empty tables around us. Honestly, why the rush?

Dinner with friends: Tessa serves delicious food worth the prices, which seemed to be straining our definition of reasonable when we paid the bill. Here's some details: Meatballs, 15 Burrata, 16 Baby beet salad, 17 Linguini, half, 13 Cavatelli, rabbit, half, 19 Baked alaska, 13 Aperol Spritz, 15 Gassac Rose, glass, 13 Gassac Rose, bottle, 50 TOTAL, 251 Brunch with the parents, one of whom is required to eat gluten-free, was very nice. The service was nearly flawless. This is an excellent restaurant, as we've learned through many dinners, now reinforced by our first brunch. Our gluten-free diner had the burger less its brioche bun, and there was a Croque Madame, Palliard, and Hangover Cure at the table. The Palliard was reminiscent of a sausage instead of a pounded breast or a schnitzel. The hangover cure, with soft poached eggs, gigante beans, and chicken sausage in a casserole, was slightly more saucy than I would've liked. Mini banana muffins for the table were delicious. The bill, with a Coke, was 82 for 4. TIP far from the outdoors in the main dining area TIP coffee refills? Not offered: was one cup $4?

It's hard to see from the street, but there's a very comfortable dining area towards the back of the restaurant. The food was excellent and they have a great selection of local beers on tap. Great date spot or for pre-dinner drinks. Unpretentious and very good value for money

This restaurant is a mixed bag, the food is not equal to the prices but the room is pleasant and the staff generally good. We felt a little rushed out at the end of our meal, we had been there a while but the restaurant was more than half empty so there was no need for our table.

This restaurant has a very buzzy bar scene up front and a somewhat more subdued, but still noisy, main part of the restaurant in back. We had a Tessa salad, the soup of the day, and two pastas...the linguini and the lobster rye trumpet pasta. The latter was more meaty than I thought it would be, but it, and everything else was really excellent. And the service was superb. The price was moderate, for what you get. We'll be back for sure.

Lively bar with dining towards the back up a few stairs. The bar itself was a wonderful drinking emporium but the food was incredible. We sampled quite a bit and everything was spot on. Highlights were the truffle risotto, meatballs, a salad with duck confit and the Osso Bucco. I've eaten in some of the great restaurants of Europe and Tessa is right up there. GO!

The seating is tight, but the staff hustles as they navigate the cleanup and resets to make it work. We had a sampler of the house dips, fresh, clean and solid. The Octopus was terrific and the best of our dishes. Tagliatelle came out with her Risotto so the timing matchup made my dish stick together in big lumps. Not fun to have to try pulling it apart. Flavors on both dishes were excellent otherwise. The wine pours were tight. So it prompts an additional glass, which we enjoyed, but 60 bucks for essentially a glass and a half each is a pretty hefty margin.

Great place for weekend brunch. I had some business to transact in a sociable setting. Tessa was perfect. Good service, excellent menu and food well prepared. Quiet enough room to be heard. I will return sometime to try their dinner menu. But brunch was terrific.

Had a great dinner with friends at Tessa President Day. Place was pretty quiet but filled up later. Service was attentive and our Waitress was great. Pastas were all fantastic, nice wines, salads etc.. The space is very nice, warm and cozy. Will definitely had back to try some other entrees.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Amazing food and incredible service! They also have an amazing wine list. If you are looking for a quality place look no further!

UPDATE 11/9/2018 Friday night couple dinner Tessa is still totally solid. Here's the latest: Burrata, 18 Shrimp scampi, small, 19: We preferred some of the other pastas. The shrimp was excellent. Duck pastrami sliders, 18 Rose, glass, 13 Fuego Verde, 15: A spicy margarita. The spicy margarita is having a moment. e's Bar and Jacob's Pickles make good ones, too. SHOUT OUT to Michael and Adrian for friendly service every time. TIP: For grown ups; try Playa Betty across the street with children

First time at Tessa but not our last. The Octopus a la Plancha, the Drunken Mussels and the Cauliflower Fritters were plentiful and delicious. Had I known the appetizers would be so generous I would have ordered only 1 dish not 2 as my main. The Tessa Burger, both duck dishes, the Gnocchi and the Branzino were also well received. But we were pleasantly surprised by the modern take on Baked Alaska and if you like goat cheese then you might also enjoy the Bruleed Goat Cheesecake. The noise level in the dining room was a little too vibrant to carry on a good conversation but it created a nice vibe in the bar area. Service was efficient and friendly always making sure our water glasses were full. Our group of 6 left satiated and happy. Another nice addition to the Westside.

Great service. Nice, hip place. We had great drinks (watermelon martini, manhattan), burrata app which was also great, we had 3 fantastic pasta dishes best I have had in awhile, and my son had a great burger. And to top it off we split a couple of desserts between the 4 of us, which were also fantastic. First time in awhile that a restaurant hit on all facets for me. Absolutely will go here again if hitting a show at the Beacon theater or for any other reason being in the area.

Food was great. We ordered different kind of pasta, steak, fish and pork chop. The appetizers were sliders, hummus and octopus. Service was great too. Will definitely go back

We stayed nearby and after reading the reviews we decided to give this a visit. It was very busy and had a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our main course was meatballs which had to be shared by two, they were really light and the sauce was very tasty. My main course was a New York strip with potatoes, the steak was not great, some of it was tender, other bits not so and one bit which I lost the fight in the 8 th round. The potato really did not add much to the dish. I explained to the waitress about the steak and we were given a baked Alaska on the house, so credit to them for that. This dessert was really nice and tasty. So a mixed bag resulting in a 3 rather than 4 star review.

Tessa looks nice and we were all set for a nice dinner but that didnt really happen. Starters came 5 minutes after ordering, a bit too fast.., but they then served one of the main courses as starter, a rather obvious mistake. The uninterested waiter didnt really apologize. When the mains did come it seemed as if the earler served main had been kept under a heating lamp as it didnt taste fresh. Either it had been kept warm or it was a very badly prepared pasta. So all in all a very disappointing visit. The only positive note was the drunken mussles, they were really good.

The appetizer of Octopus a la Plancha was first rate but it was a quick descent into average or even mediocre in every other dish sampled, from the underwhelming kale salad all the way to the main course offerings of beef and pork dishes. The restaurant was much too noisy to permit polite conversation and that fact made everyone shout all the louder. Our server was excellent, the place was packed, and the bill felt padded (not really, just a feeling that you'd spent far more than the meal was worth). But the octopus was as good a rendition as I have ever had.

The food was excellent with a varied menu. The portions were generous without being overwhelming. The service was attentive. We were informed when there was a glitch in the kitchen and the progress towards its resolution. This being New York the tables were close together and the place a bit noisy. It is definitely a place to which I will return when visiting New York again.

Not at all obvious from the outside, Tessa's is a very well conceived restaurant. Quiet, gracious, with a long, friendly bar and numerous tables in the rear. Well lit, and comfortable. The menu offers numerous choices, many of which are delicious. Not overly affected, but clearly aimed at encouraging conviviality accompanied by good food and wine. A winning formula, especially in this great upper West side location.

I came to Tessa with my friends and family and we absolutely LOVED it. We had four days in New York and came back to this restaurant almost everyday. The bartender, Michael was amazing and always made sure to take good care of us. All the staff were so gracious and were always laughing and smiling. The staff seemed like a big family which is what I want to see when I go out to eat. The food was incredible. The drinks were ever better. Get Michael to make you one of his special cocktails, we couldn’t get enough. I can’t wait to come back here and tell everyone about this hidden gem. You MUST try Tessa’s if you’re in New York!!!! My favourite drink was the garden martini and they had some killer donuts for dessert. Thank you to everyone that made our visit special!!!

Our reservation was honored on time. We were seated promptly. Service was excellent and food as well. A tad noisy but not intolerable. A very enjoyable experience.

Stopped in for truffle fries and beverages. Was not disappointed! Service was great and so were the fries and drinks. Would return for a full meal.

Tessa doesn't look like much from the street, but is very nice inside. We stopped in for lunch and liked the ambience and food and the service was excellent. Would definitely return on next trip.

This place is awesome! Food is fabulous, service is great! We had the muscles and it was delicious. We would go back repeatedly. The prices are very fair

Went for dinner recently without reservations Only option was bar seating which we prefer anyway Very attentive bartender with great cocktail options Also nice beer and wine choices Great meal. Hanger steak frites was delicious Beautiful prepared steak with great flavor Frites were thin and crispy. So yummy Partner had ricotta gnocchi. So light and tasty Wonderful meal Would definitely go again

We had an excellent meal from start to end. Service, food and value is 5 star. We had the burrata. Truffle fries, tuna tartare, some local cider and tap beers, everything was perfect, this was our second visit, atmosphere a nd music suits vlient self, sophisticated and relaxing,

Delicious food- mussels were great, with toasted bread to dip in the broth. Don't pass up the truffle fries. Dip appetizer is a great start to the meal and easily shared.

Wonderful food, great Bloody Mary, super service. We were a party of 5 and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The perfect place for a boozy brunch if you're with a bunch of friends but equally good for a family as the food is family friendly and really really good.

We had an amazing dinner pre Bob Dylan concert at the Beacon. Everything was outstanding from the welcoming bar and wait staff to the off the charts food. Artichoke fritti, pulpo, meatballs, leek soup ( a special) Cavatelli with rabbit ragu. Branzino, Salmon ....all amazing. We dined here because of the proximity to the Beacon but it is completely worth going regardless of whether you have something to do in the neighborhood. Not to be missed....really !!

We were in the neighborhood and picked this place based on other reviews. It was well worth it! Fantastic wine selection and decent happy hour specials. The food was amazing and our server was super friendly and attentive. We ate on the front patio area and just loved the vibe. And this may be an odd thing to mention, but this place has the perfect bathroom set up to be gender-neutral. Individual stalls with shared sinks/soap/mirrors. I wish more places would set up restrooms like that!

Tessa, Assets sister on Amsterdam! Same cool vibe, same cool ambiance, and same great food and drinks. They have a great outdoor set up with nice tables and music. Happy Hour is one of the best in the area. $4 beer, $7 cocktails, and $8 wine offered from 4-6. Truffle fries are to die for. Bursting with Flavor and topped with fresh parmesan. The octopus was fabulous, so moist and tender. Green Mussels are cooked in a cilantro, tomato garlic, and white wine sauce with a touch of coconut milk. Open until 11 on Weekends, my husband and I like to stop in when we're in town, for a late-night glass of wine before going home. The Malbec, by the glass is one of my favorites, and the bartenders are always so nice. It's a nice end to the evening.

Went to this Upper West Side treasure to try the octopus. Was far from disappointed. The octopus was fabulous. Also had the duck breast which, although some might consider me a heathen for wanting it well done, was exactly like I wanted and still moist and tender. Can hardly wait to get back to try some of their other dishes.

The food was very good classical Mediterranean fare. The service was very good and cost reasonable for NYC.

Everything we had was first rate, the cauliflower fritto we shared, the spaghetti with seafood (my wife’s choice), the pappardelle with rabbit ragout (mine), the cheesecake. On food alone this restaurant can be described as excellent. The service was also excellent. Alas, the music played was disagreeable: what could be heard was a monotonous thumping of a drum. At first it was subdued, but the volume rose as the restaurant filled up (having not had lunch, we were there early). Why do restaurants so often fill their patrons’ ears with inferior music?

We ate here twice on our vacation in NYC. The beet salad and pasta were tasty and the prosecco was delicious. Good service and good value.

Pretty good restaurant but not quite as good as I expected from previously read reviews. Service was good - attentive but more functionary than welcoming. Waitress took our orders and answered questions about menu items but offered little more. Skip the spaghetti carbonara - not much flavor. The sauce seemed pre-made. Hanger steak was excellent - bursting with flavor as was the 1/2 roasted chicken, an almost perfect dish of it weren’t for the couscous which was bone dry. Manhattan cocktail was fine but nothing exciting nor were the deserts. Skip the apple crumble. The crumble tasted eerily like a bowl of instant Quaker Oats apple hot cereal and the olive oil cake was bland. A little lemon or orange zest would wake it up. I will try again but will order different entrees. The restaurant is very pretty and has a relaxing charm. One suggestion: it’s mid December. Go ahead and remove the autumn themed cocktails and add a little winter celebratory cheer.

Good resturant, large portions mostly with Italian flavor. Nice res. with comfortable seating, welcoming stuff, a bit noisy place for a romantic meeting.a bit overpriced.

Had dinner with 2 friends. We all enjoyed our meals and, thanks to my friend's relationship with the owner, we got free dessert! Can't beat that. My only complaint is the Tessa salad is too big. It needs to be about half the size as it's too big for one person.

We went to this restaurant with friends and had a great meal. The service was good and food was good as well. If you do not mind the noise level it is a great restaurant that knows what it is doing. They have dishes for all taste. From burgers to octopus, you cannot go wrong. I had the duck that was good but a bit fatty. That did not stop me from clearing my plate.
Superior and delicious on Amsterdam and 77th
As tourists we walked and walked to find a 'decent' restaurant. Tessa's was it. We had to wait an hour to celbrate a birthday, but what was outstanding about our fish and chicken dishes were the surprising multiple sauce (gravy) tastes on both our plates.
