Had Christmas lunch here and the meat was unseasoned and over cooked. Even the potatoes were dry. Our server was unfriendly and sour the whole time (I suppose you don’t have to put much effort in when the tip is already added on the price)

Enjoyed dinner here 2x recently. Great wait staff and good menu, especially if you like English-type food. I had the chili one evening and the portabella mushroom burger the other, both were great. Only downside was the loudness and a bit dark.

The portions are generous but the roast (in our case the chicken) really wasn’t anything special. Less British brews available then I had expected. We had Irish coffees to finish. A little less booze in them might balance them better. It’s not a bad room and the staff seemed hard working but it was for us a rather disappointing experience.

This is a great little watering hole offering an array of imported and craft ales, lagers, etc. A welcome oasis on a steamy hot NY summer's day. We like the happy hour!

Loved this place...So Christmas! Plus some great traditional English food including a Sunday roast. We had some favourites and not disappointed. Will be back.

Nice little English pub. Very noisy inside as the restaurant and bar were completely full when we were seated. We had the Fish & Chips and the daily Hamburger special. Food was very good.

good food, atmospheric bar . we used this at the end of our days sightseeing. Staff and customers friendly

A great spot for brunch or a traditional Sunday roast. Love coming here at the holidays, the place is lovely.

This is great pub just a bit to the North of Madison Park a bit to the East. It is an actual pub scene and while there are servers, so at nighttime don't expect the attentiveness of that of a restaurant. It's not bad service, it's pub style service. You chat with the bartender, you get along and make conversation. Expect people to sit in your booth if there's no more space elsewhere and enjoy. At lunch or early dinner time the service is more for meals, but when it becomes party time it is like any other bar. The food was quite good, lots of actual British beer pub options like fish and chips with mushy peas. As best as can be done in the U.S. with actual British cider vinegar and condiments. The beers is perhaps the best, you can get really great British beers here. London Pride, Old Speckled Hen, Scottish and Irish ales.

Had been in contact with the pub before arriving in NYC as i desperately wanted to get me & my family in there for xmas day dinner but they were fully booked! So the next best was to book xmas eve dinner instead which i did, i am so happy because it was absolutely the right choice and i would recommend them to anybody! The place was so nicely decorated with christmas lights and had such a nice cosy atmosphere about it. It was busy but not too loud, the service was fantastic. They also showed the sport which was a bonus, and the food was a really reasonable price and definitely worth going if you want to eat & save money outside of Times Square. We ordered a traditional English roast but all the other dishes looked amazing too. We met some locals who said this was their favourite pub/restuarant so that tells you something.

I visited New York for two weeks Christmas celebration and special time Thanks to Trip advisor I could find where to go and we found Churchill restaurant for celebrating New Year Eve. It was very good and food is good too I loved hearing Churchill on speaker while in toilet .. pretty hilarious

I stopped in for a few pints and food while I was staying in a hotel around the block. The atmosphere is great and the servers were very friendly.

This is my home away from home. It is truly one of the best pubs in New York City. The food is consistently delicious and has a homemade taste every time. The prices are very fair, the atmosphere is comfortable and lures me into staying well past my bedtime every time. The staff are personable and genuine - most have been there since they opened. If you are looking for great food, drinks and a place where you can actually hear your friends it's spot on.

Went with a group of 10. Booked table, food was great most people had a roast and they gave us heaps of extra Yorkshire puddings, atmosphere is very British pub and they even play Churchill speeches in the toilet. Great place when you are feeling a little home sick.

Cosy and friendly place with staff to match. We had the Sunday roast as it is what I usually cook on a Sunday, especially having had no red meat for 40 days it was exactly what we were craving. It tasted really homemade and as an English girl I have high expectations. Would definitely recommend.

As noted below, the Churchill is under scaffolding right now... typical NYC. I visited one evening for a drink to check out the place. The next evening I returned for dinner... I was not disappointed. Often they use hamburg in shepherds pie... not here! It was ground lamb in a splendid gravy... very tasty. Good service and pleasant atmosphere.

Construction out front made it difficult to find but once inside place is great. Clean, friendly staff, cool Bartenders, great beer selection. Stop in for a pint, you won't regret it.

We flew to New York on Christmas Day 2013 - we booked this place for a traditional dinner and it didn't disappoint ..... Brilliant British pub with great hospitality from American people we met during the day. Superb!

I enjoyed a nice meal here... fish and chips... not beer battered. The service was efficient and friendly. There were not many tables set up outside, but they are working well with what they have available.

Excellent, very neat place. The dishes are very good. Respectful cooking and very pleasant welcome. A very good moment. Thank you ❤️

Went to Churchill after seeing the Book of Mormon...excellent. Service was excellent..late night menu very diverse and food was great. Place was very busy for late night...but...it is NYC

We had dinner here and enjoyed the Christmas decor, convivial atmosphere, good food and cold beer and cider. Made for a very enjoyable evening.

Great atmosphere, Guinness cold and tastes great, I had chilli and chips, great !!! music very British, what’s not too like ?

LOVE it here. Great boozer with epic Sunday Roasts and A* service. Whenever I'm feeling a bit homesick and in need of a hug in a glass or on a plate - The Churchill is my go to.

Stumbled upon this place after a concert and every other restaurant in the area was closed! They were happy to have us, kitchen was open and pleasantly serving. Made some new friends over some good drinks and good food. Sandwiches were well made and hit the spot. We were thrilled we stumbled upon this great find! Highly recommend!

The food is terrific. Now please explain why there were only four women in The Churchill on a working lunch day. Hmm. Great place to go to meet men. Fish and chips is as good as anything I have had in England. The Churchill burger was delicious too. Easy service. Churchill speaks to you in the Ladies room ...It about scared me to death.

I had popped in for a drink and pub meal on November 13th, 2018. I struggled to get the attention of the blond, female server. After over five minutes, she eventually appeared, stating something along the lines of 'manager not here, and I'm very busy!' After finally getting served drinks, I attempted to do the same for food. Again server difficult to find, and when she did appear ignored me. Very unfortunate! The venue did not appear overly busy at 12:30pm or thereabouts. If she was struggling, bring more staff in or have it arranged. Not the customers problem. I won't return!

What a great experience. First of all, the Churchill is a classic English Pub in an old building in the middle of New York. Many of us have been there just to hang out enjoy traditional English fare and a pint or two (as well as Churchill's speeches piped in the rest rooms :-)) In this case we had them cater a wedding rehearsal dinner upstairs for a group of about 70 guests. The food was very good with excellent fish, traditional shepherds pie, chicken, and salads. The deserts of chocolate mousse and home made apple crumb cake were superb. Alina, the manager and Sinead the owner oversaw that everything went off like clockwork. And the bar service was excellent as well. We would all recommend the Churchill without reservation :)!

Went here for dinner on St.Paddy's Day and I most definitely can say that I will be back. The atmosphere is that of a traditional British pub. Decorated with pictures of Sir Winston and HMTQ. Bar tables were not too spacious but enough for two lads and a couple of pints. Being that it was St. Paddy's Day I ordered the Beef and Mushroom Guinness Pot Pie. Fantastically portioned and piping hot, the flavor was excellent with an equal amount of beef and mushrooms. The staff was great and attentive to guests. Wait time was non-existent and overall this was a great visit. The only thing lacking here was the selection of tea. As a place of authentic British food, I would've like to see an offer of Twinings Tea, not Lipton. Other than that, it was jolly good if I may say so myself.

The atmosphere was great, food and drinks were good too. They had a lot of english type food (sausage rolls, mushy peas, curry etc) The only weird thing was the talking bathroom. Hehe

Great bar & good food too. We met a friend here to catch up and the atmosphere in here is great. The choice of beers is good and the music on Friday was great. Churchill speaking in the toilets is good fun too. The menu is good & even has a GF choice, the burger & fries & Shepherds pie were a good choice.

Nice setting that offer a warm welcome and tasty food to compliment the different beer selections. Will definitely return to this place.

So, I wouldn't normally head to an "english pub" when away - there are plenty of them at home! But the lure of sunday roast and good ale before my plane home was too much! - and I'm glad I went in - the roast beef was simply awesome. Worth a try.

We used to visit NYC annually until the pandemic interfered with our plans in 2020. In October, 2021, we were happy to be able to go back and visit the Churchill Tavern again. We usually stay just down the street, so it's a good watering hole before or after jumping on the 6 train. We were very happy to see that they survived the shutdowns. On our first visit this trip, the bartender Blahine was extra kind. Sinead, the manager (?), stopped by and noted that she recognized us as previous customers from our previous visit in 2019, which was very kind. Although we didn't eat at Churchill this trip, we do recommend it. Great traditional Sunday roast and other British pub fare. We hope to be back very soon!

Disappointing Christmas day lunch, could have been so much better. With the cold New York temperatures, we were left waiting outside until 12:00. They normally open at 11:30, so would have been a nice touch to be told this in advance when booking. There was a long queue of customers waiting to get in and were all freezing cold. When we were inside the pub it was nicely decorated, but the staff were not full of Christmas cheer and just felt like any other day to them. As a previous review said when the 20% tip is already included why bother. The table we had has a cold draught coming though, so didn’t really warm up at all. The main meal food was just about warm. Roast potatoes not really roasted, they were new potatoes in skins cooked in the oven. Understand we are not in the UK, but when booking an English pub, you would expect an English roast. The dessert was no better, cold apple pie and cold sticky toffee pudding. By this time we just wanted to leave to warm up elsewhere. Could have been so much better, with some Christmas cheer and food being hotter. I guess it is difficult catering on mass. For the money spent (over $300) it was a such a shame and didn’t feel like money well spent on a Christmas lunch.

Disaster is an understatement! We waited two hours for an appetiser and then a half hour longer for our main meal. It would have been a longer wait had we not asked staff several times for our meals. We skipped on the desserts, as out of the 7 on the menu only 2 were available! It wasn't just us though, we watched as many angry customers, who were promised a cooked Christmas dinner, left angry whilst the owner demanded that they still should pay for their drinks. We saw many waitresses crying because the owner had given them to the dogs. The meals that came varied in size. They were running low on some foods such as Turkey, chicken and ham. So the meals then came out half the size of other customers. To illustrate how low the night was, the owner attempted to make up the night by giving the kids with us some chocolate. However the children were too tired and hungry to care. In conclusion, it was understaffed, under catered and an extreme case of poor customer service.

This bar was in walking distance and didnt disappoint , freindly and fair value for money with drinks didnt eat here

We are over from England and wanted to book a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and we certainly made the right choice with The Churchill Tavern. The whole place was beautifully decorated and felt so christmasy. The staff were so friendly and efficient. The food was really lovely and lots of it too. I would definitely return and try their normal menu, which looked great and would recommend this to anyone wanting a piece of England whilst in New York.

Visited here twice on trip to New York. Both times very pleased with the food. Very busy on both occasions, mostly locals in. Reasonable prices for the city.

After few days in NYC we wanted to feel at home, so we visit this pub by our hotel. The staff was extremely friendly, the lady at the door and the main guy at the bar were very kind. We only had few drinks, however we will come back for some food tomorrow. Also beautiful Xmas decorations I recommend 100%

Came here with some co workers last week and definitely enjoyed the bar. I was only there to drink, but I heard from a coworker that the burger is great! Service is fast and friendly, the beer and cocktail list is long. The music is also chill and fun.

An oasis of fun, good food, drink and laughter in a very cold NYC. The owners, Jonesey and Scott have done a bang up job in creating an English country pub in the heart of Manhatten and could not have been more hospitable. The staff were all attentive and friendly and the food was as good as anything I'd eaten on previous trips to NY at a fraction of the cost. We went in for a quick drink and stayed all night, Jonesey and Lee the head bartender, both Manchester lads had us and the rest of the bar laughing all night and was probably the best show we saw while we were in town. The lovely Devon who worked the upstairs bar was very knowledgeable and informative, giving us lots of suggestions for things to see and do on our trip. We went back 3 more times and we were never disappointed. A lovely upscale pub with great friendly people. We will be back!!

As an Englishman I cannot complain about the roast (me and the Mrs had the chicken and it was spot on). My only complaint would be the extreme lack of service throughout. When we walked in to the place we were not greeted and had to walk around and find a table for the two of us. We found the only spot available and sat there but asked for one of the booths out the back because the only table available the area was literally so dark we had to put the torches on our phones to see the menu. The 3 staff, 2 girls and 1 lad, were congregated at the end of the bar talking and I had to wait longer than usual to get drink considering there was no one at the bar with me. When we sat in the booth eventually the service was mediocre but the food was great.

It was business lunch time, so my client suggested this tavern. We walked in and loved the ambiance. There were cozy booths in the back with lights all over and had their own little rooms, so to speak. We were both in the mood for fish & chips, so that's what we ordered. It was delicious! Homemade fries and wonderfully, not over-battered fish & chips, and not too much. They also came with a side of mashed peas, tartar sauce and ketchup. The food was terrific, but it took a long time for a waiter to take our order and although we also ordered a side of the Brussel sprouts, they didn't come until we were almost done with our entrees. At that point we weren't hungry enough to eat the sprouts so they were a bit wasted. Other than that, loved the ambiance and the food was good.

I've been here many many times and the Sunday roast is as good as it'll get outside of England. Their Yorkshire puddings are great. But the waitress whose always working, has such an attitude it's almost off putting when you go in there. Her attitude absolutely stinks. It's not like your standard English pub, welcoming and friendly.

Such a friendly atmosphere, great beer and good laughs. Big mix of people both locals and visitors and everyone is made to feel welcome. Unique style and something definitely worth a visit if you're over this way, it's really close to the Empire State too.

We had booked for Christmas Day dinner as travelling all day and wanted to have a traditional meal. The restaurant looked very festive and we only had to wait a short while to get a table. We had to ask someone to take our order (the waitress was lovely) and was told there was no vegetables only the brussel sprouts were left. Everyone around us was not eating and we got speaking to the family next to us and they had been there since 6pm and had not been given any food, it was now after 7pm. Our starter arrived which was ok watery soup and 4 shrimps which we had to pay an extra $8 for. On a table nearby the family got up to leave and had words with the manageress (loudly) saying they had been there a long time and still had not received any food. We did feel sorry for the manageress who looked very stressed. We then were told there was no turkey left and had to switch to chicken. The table next to us had only just got there starter by now. We then were given our main meal which was very paltrey(poultry) only 3 very anaemic roast potatoes, a few brussel sprouts and a spoonful of dry stuffing. We spoke to the manageress who was very apologetic but obviously was not coping very well. We had one meal taken off the bill but still paid $88 for a very poor meal. She did ask if we would come back and give it another try but we said not...having said all this the staff were lovely and obviously working under difficult circumstances.

We've been to lots of pubs, and while this location is conveniently close to a subway, and the decor and atmosphere were pleasant, there was some room for improvement. The manager who sat us was very stone faced, and I didn't feel very welcome (though I may just prefer smiles and he is more reserved). The service could have been better... it took 10 minutes to be greeted by our server, and 20 minutes after our plates had been cleared to get a check, with very little check up in between. The drinks on tap were DELICIOUS (Strongbow and London's Pride) but were $8 for a small glass. The Fish and Chips were average. It was interesting to see the "after work crowd" of NYC in a natural environment, but the service needed a little smoothing around the edges.

I had dinner here with my brother and had a great meal. I was excited to see Scotch eggs on the menu (hard to find in NYC!) so I ordered one as an appetizer, and it did not disappoint. My brother even asked to sample a taste, and he was won over. I had the Guinness beef pot pie as my main meal, and it arrived piping hot, with plenty of beef chunks and mushrooms inside. My brother had bangers and mash, which he devoured. Extensive beer menu, and the service was basically what you would expect from a busy NYC pub. Not bad, but not great either.

Was looking forward to trying here as recommended by friends but was pretty disappointed in the end! The Bar was very Cold and dark. We got two NY Steaks with pepper sauce but the pepper sauce was missing, or the chef forgot to put it on, and a steak and ale pie which was very dry and lacked ale/gravy sauce, no way near to British standards the Sunday lunch was OK but not worth the money. Dessert are tiny very strange for New York and as an English Theme pub, the poor single server seemed to be the only person working but he was very good but run off his feet! all in all disappointing which is a shame! Plenty of great eateries in NY

Good lunch specials at 10 dollars including drink. I went to have a couple of pints of English ale even if it was keg - lovely compared to all the nondescript lager. Good value food and cheerful waitress a bonus.

I have eaten here many times for my Sunday Lunch. They do an absolutely tasty traditional British Sunday lunch. The beef is tender, the vegetables are not over cooked, the Yorkshire pudding is light and fluffy. All of this for $20, if you are missing your British Sunday roast, I highly recommend the Churchill (very warm atmosphere). The sticky toffee pudding is also a must have.

We picked The Churchill after researching where we could have a traditional Christmas meal on our special family Christmas holiday to New York. On arrival we were charmed by the festive, cosy decor and surroundings and a welcoming greeting from the owner. However, it soon became apparent that the couple next to us had been waiting a long time for their food and unfortunately we, along with everyone else in the pub, suffered the same. After 2 and a half hours we had only been served 2 of the 3 promised courses which were lukewarm and we were then told it would be at least half an hour more to wait for dessert - which we couldn't do since we had tickets for a show. When we complained they did take a round of drinks off yet apologies were minimal since so many other people seemed to be complaining and we were made to feel as though we had no grounds for complaint because other people had suffered far worse delays. We understand that problems can happen with catering but what really upset us is no member of staff ever came up to our table to apologise for the delay so we got increasingly frustrated. It was a lovely venue so we were sad that it ended so badly but feel that they need to keep customers better informed when problems happen.

When we were in New York we came across The Churchill Tavern by chance and we’re so happy that we did. It was always busy which is a good sign. The decor inside was lovely and very Christmassy, there was such a nice atmosphere and vibe about the place. The food and drinks were reasonably priced and really nice. It was very cosy and the staff were really friendly. We ended up going out of our way to come here 2/3 times. I would recommend booking if you can though as it does fill up quick with it being quite a popular place. We tell everybody we know going to New York that they should go there. It has a very British feel to it and it does some food and drink there that you could get at home but would struggle to get anywhere else in New York.

I went there this weekend. Great for happy hours. Nice service, friendly staff and great food! Strongly Recommended

I first stumbled across this place whilst looking for another recommendation. Once in however, I was warmly greeted by the waitress who offered bar or table service. Myself and my friend initially set out for only a stop off, but due to the warm service and excesllent beer we ended up staying longer than intended. As we enjoyed the feel of the pub the first time round, a few days later we sought it out specifically. Again, only intending on staying for one whilst on our way elsewhere we found ourselves I. The company of rebar managed whilst sat near the bar area. Steve (the manager) recognised our accents and following a conversation we changed our plans and decided to eat in the bar instead of heading off to the intended restaurant. The pub had a good selection. Of English food and I can highly recommend both the Beef and Ale Pie and the Bangers and Mash. Yes - I sampled them both although I'll add big dishes weren't mine! Overall a great experience and a great find on 28th street. Highly recommended. Thank you!

visited this bar in both morning and evenings during our stay at the Carlton hotel just a 5 minute stroll and found the food to be tasty ,good size portions and good value. The atmosphere was welcoming but laidback and only backround music so you could actually make conversation

We went to the Churchill for our Christmas dinner and as it was also my birthday, they made sure the day was extremely special. As soon as we walked in the staff made us feel welcome and were really friendly - they could not do enough for us. The food was also delicious and big portions but very reasonably priced. We went back for lunch on New Year's Eve and again, the food was tasty and very cheap - I had the lunchtime special steak which came with half a pint for only $12! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the area

Had the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. We waited two hours to recieve our main meal. An hour and a half for the entree. By the time it came to dessert there was nothing good left. The owner could care less about customer service and told people not to go to social media because she didn't want a bad reputation. If it wasn't for our beautiful waitress the night would have been completely ruined. A table of thirteen is not an excuse to dismiss meals for that long. There were young children that needed to be fe that we're ignored A couple that came in an hour and a half after us received their meals before us. The only reason I would recommended this restaurant is for the lovely waitress we had.

We went to New York for a Christmas break, we decided to book a restaurant for Christmas day as we suspected it would be difficult to walk in off the street. We decided on the Churchill Tavern after reading some reviews (not on trip advisor). We booked a table for 4 for 6pm on Christmas day. We arrived at about 5 to 6 and were told that it would be 20 minutes before we could be seated,we said ok and got drinks and sat at a table in the bar. Over the course of the next hour and 20 minutes we were given various excuses as to why the table wasn't available. Eventually we were shown to our table where we were told that 2 of the 3 available starters weren't available and that we could opt for grain and mushroom soup (or some other foul sounding concoction). We were further told that some of the main courses weren't available either. Given that they were offering a reduced Christmas style fare this seemed really poor. We managed to order some food from the very limited choice available, after waiting a further 30 minutes the waiter came out carrying what were obviously main courses, I asked if they were our mains and he said yes. I told him we didn't want them as we hadn't yet received our starters and that I wanted to speak to the manager. When the manager came over she was very apologetic. I told her that we were leaving and that I was appalled at how poorly we had been treated. She seemed to be genuinely distressed by my complaint and walked off after apologising again. Whist we were putting on our coats the manageress came back and introduced the owner and said I should speak to her. So I went over the whole thing again and said how unimpressed I was with the whole experience. She said she was sorry and we should let her feed us. But given that we had sent food back and undoubtedly this would be simply be kept warm until it could be given to us again; I declined. We left the restaurant and after trying to get in somewhere else for 2 hours we ended up having our main meal in Christmas Day in McDonalds. I think you would have to search really hard to find as badly managed a restaurant as the Churchill tavern. On a quiet night, with a reduced menu, they couldn't provide a pre -booked table or get an order correct. We noticed that others weren't happy and aren't surprised to see other in negative comments for this sitting.

Needed to kill 2 hours and have lunch in between appointments in Park Ave South area. We stumbled in and the atmosphere immediately grabbed us. Upstairs, downstairs - plenty of room. Our waitperson, Angie was great! We had the warm Kale salad with Salmon...just right! Came back later for the important stuff - the cocktails.

Been here a few times for a roast dinner. Although i am always satisfied with the food, its massively overpriced for what you are getting. The food tastes good and the Yorkshire puddings are made very well. Its also a pretty decent place to grab a few beers or catch a soccer game.

Visited on the suggestion of a work friend. Had the roast dinner and it was very tasty. I love Yorkshire pudding and can be a harsh critic but I found their pudding wonderful. The waitress brought several extra out to share and that was great. Went somewhat early for dinner and got seated right away. It was a nice, quite break from the city.

Visited with my wife. It felt like we were back in London again. A beautifully decorated cafe and restaurant - gorgeous across several floors. We were here around Christmas - the decorations were just perfect, as was the background music. The food as good (especially the pasta in garlic-wine sauce) and very reasonably priced. Very friendly personnel too. Favorite restaurant in New York!

I stopped in for lunch on Jan 30 and the restaurant was still decorated for Christmas. No trees or Santas or anything, but lots of greenery and holly. It was a little odd to see this far into the new year. That being said, it was beautiful and felt super cozy! I would love to stop back in during the holidays when I'm feeling festive. The restaurant was lovely and the staff was friendly. I ordered the gammon steak (cured ham steak) lunch entree. It was good, but not mind-blowing. The French fries were great! They were thick, yet crispy, with just the right amount of salt. What was mind blowing was the sticky toffee pudding for dessert! I can see myself stopping in on the way to work just for that!

Very easy to book via email, this booking was confirmed near to the big day. We arrived and were warmly welcomed and quickly seated with the menu choice. We were quickly poured water and our drinks order was taken, drinks were brought and our order taken. The food was lovely, well presented, well cooked and hot, our drinks were kept topped up by attentive staff. There was a slight problem with one of the puddings and this was quickly rectified. The bill was available without a little nag wait and was good value for Christmas Day.

Visited from the UK in Sept 24 after a friend advised us to pop in as he grew up with the owner back in England. Came back Sept 25 and had a great time again. We had John on the bar for the three days we visited and had great conversations with him and some locals. Wonderful British atmosphere, great drink selection and food looked extremely tasty.

We booked Christmas dinner at 3pm but when we arrived there was just a crowd of people with no waiter around. Nobody knew what was going on or when we were supposed to be seated. When I could locate the hostess she was clearly very busy and I felt like she didn’t have time for me. She would say “I will be with you in a second” and then disappear for 5 minutes. Eventually we were seated at 3.20. There was draughty upstairs where we sat so that wasn’t great. After being seated we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes just for our starters to arrive! They were clearly very busy and had oversold more seats then they could actually deliver. Everyone in the restaurant was waiting at least an hour for some food. The staff weren’t that cheery, they clearly were very busy. It wasn’t very festive at all. The dinner was average, not the best but okay. The 20% tip felt a bit cheeky considering the very poor service we received.

Very good pub with a great atmosphere. Great food and reasonably priced for New York. We had lunch here twice during our trip to NY. Highly recommended A+++++++

What fun we enjoyed at The Churchill! Sunday Brunch was on point - meals were enjoyed all round (the fries are delicious!) The Bloody Marys were looked good on paper but didn’t quite deliver. I would recommend skipping those. The service was excellent and the Christmas lights around the bar set the mood perfectly. The sound bites of Churchill piped into the washroom offers a nice historic nod.

Great English style pub in Nomad district of Manhattan with friendly staff, good food and great atmosphere. Good choice of European beers which are reasonably priced for Manhattan.

And, super cool & friendly staff especially Hailey. They have built out a very comfy outdoor seating area as well. We went all-in for the 'Traditional Sunday Roast' and selected the roast beef w/ horseradish cream. It's a very generous 2-slice portion of tender roast beef with roast potatoes, veggies and Yorkshire pudding, with a rich gravy. It was easily enough for the two of us, but we were glad we tried the onion soup as well, it rivals the French! All around an awesome way to spend a long, Sunday afternoon. Go!

Recently we visited this pub. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The wine was amazing and the sliders were delicious. If you are in the area and need somewhere nice and quiet to enjoy a few hours, definitely stop by.

My wife and I met our daughter for lunch yesterday and decided to try this British pub. We had a very nice lunch, as the surroundings in the restaurant made us feel like we were in England. Considering it was such a cold spring day, I ordered the Beef & Guinness Pie and Chips, my wife ordered the Ham & Cheese Quiche and my daughter asked for the Cajun Chicken on Flatbread. We all enjoyed our meals! Not only were the food and ambience very good, but I got a kick out of listening to Winston Churchill's "We will not Surrender" speech that was continuously played in the men's room! Just something different...

The roast is great, I can't fault it for the yorkshires!!! But the staff are just so strange. One waitress on a Sunday is just so rude, maybe there's a language barrier but every time we go in she's so rude. It's as if we are a hassle to her, or she can't be bothered. Has a major attitude problem. Which I'm not sure why it hasn't be noticed or picked up from the owners. Roast is great, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings, chicken, gravy, potatoes, veg, or roast beef. It's great if you're home sick & want some Yorkshire puddings. Oh and the sticky toffee pudding is brill.

We went to The Churchill Tavern on 26th December. As with all other restaurants in New York City, there was a vaccine requirement, which definitely made us feel safer. We ordered: Traditional Sunday Roast We pre-booked this as we wanted a slice of home while on holiday in NYC and it definitely didn't disappoint. As we went on Sunday, we had the Sunday roast menu available. The food was great, and tasted just like it did at home. As we went around Christmas, there were festive decorations and the inside looked just like any pub in Britain. The atmosphere was great. Will definitely be coming back if I'm ever in the area.

The bar is in a convenient spot for meeting up with friends after work as it is right by the 6 train on 28th street. They serve a full bar as well as food - the Mac and Cheese is awesome and a great deal at under $10. In the bathrooms you'll hear Winston Churchill rallying citizens behind the fight against Germany. All in all it's a great bar with good food a friendly set of folks working there and a pretty authentic "English pub" feel to the place.

I really enjoyed eating here. there is bar space, high-top tables, a long group table, and even booths, so a space for everyone. All the food was top-notch — the potato wedges were a big order, so plan on sharing. The scotch eggs were nicely herbed and seasoned and served with Branston Pickle, the sausage roll freshly made, and all the food good. Definitely a good place to go for British beers as well as food — the Belhaven Scottish cream-ale on tap was awesome, but also a decent selection both on tap and in cans and bottles.

I spent 4 days in NYC and I ate here twice! Friendly, courteous staff. I was there at off peak hours but service was great. Menu seems limited, but we loved what we ordered. I had a cheeseburger, my daughter had the linguine w/vegetables, other family members had steaks, everything was really delicious. There were a lot of places I wanted to eat, but their food was so good I went back. I was nervous about going after reading reviews so I am glad I tried it for myself.

As my Xmas visitors to NYC will know traditional lunch or dinner is a rarity we booked in advance. Good atmosphere and food sadly the kitchen showed signs of great stress. Took over an hour to be seated and three hours veto complete the meal. Next year they need to plan better. However we will visit again

Stayed in a hotel close to this bar. Stopped off one afternoon for a beer and liked the look of the food staff also very helpful. We came back for food one evening which was very nice and service second to none Great bar !!

I come here all the time with my friends and colleagues. It's a nice space, really feels like a British pub. It's a popular place, but mainly with locals - I see very few tourists here. They've got a decent beer selection and the food is quite good. They do a weekly pub-quiz on the second floor. My favorite thing about this place (in addition to the atmosphere) are the records of Churchill's wartime speeches they play in the bathrooms.

Looking for a place for a drink and found The churchill. Good pint of beer for husband and wine for me. The menu looked interesting so we decide to eat. Husband has beef and beer pie which was excellent , I choose a starter, Lamb Lollipops . Six superbly cooked lamb chops, on the bone arrive complete with a dipping bowl of mint sauce, absolutely delicious. Great staff and good service.

Fabulous bar and restauant. The food was great with lots of variety. The staff were very friendly and made sure we had everyting we needed to enjoy our meal. Upstairs they have a lovely private function room which would be great for all types of parties. Will definately be back.

We arrived in NYC late on a Sunday night with single digit temperatures (tail end of the bomb cyclone). Everyone was closed, our hotel had no restaurants or room service available due to a burst water pipe. After walking many blocks we stumbled across the Churchill. The kitchen was open at midnight and the delicious French Onion Soup saved us.

The Churchill pub is the best of the two pub worlds combined as the owners are Irish/English. The pub is full of English and Irish humor even in the restrooms/loos/toilets. The pub has a welcoming atmosphere as you enter, conveniently located near a subway stop with good old pub food, bartenders and efficient servers. I’ve been here during the week, but will try their Sunday roast soon. The hamburgers and artichoke fries are good (as are other items on their menu) if you are looking for something to go with your beer/drink.

We visited here twice for lunch during our stay in New York. The Christmas decorations are lovely and we liked the booths, very cosy and informal. The food was good too, infact this was our favourite pub in NY. I think people sometimes wonder why do Brits want a British pub in NY, it's because you can sit there have a drink with no rush and dont get presented with the bill as soon as you've finished your food which I find extremely odd..

Here with a business friend living in New York. When abroad, I normally avoid any "British" outlet like the plague as I've never seen the point in going somewhere and then heading to home-style eateries. However, my host was insistent. Honestly, its a very pleasant bar, serving certain UK beers but also a larger selection of local (as well as global) beers. As to the food, once again it serves certain British dishes, but is largely the sort of bar food you'd expect. So whilst not there to eat properly, we did have a bowl of the fried artichoke hearts, which I really recommend. Unusual and delicious! Service was attentive, prices reasonable (well for New York that is!) so a good way to have a nice drink with friends. I would say that it would be interesting to be there when its cold outside and more cozy in. Could be very nice!

I visited this restaurant with my fiancé for brunch. I'm British and he's American and he wanted to try some good British food. The food and atmosphere was great and the staff were really friendly and attentive. When we first arrived around 12.15pm we were the only ones in there but by 1pm it was pretty full. My fiancé had the Sunday roast dinner with chicken and he enjoyed it, the chicken was cooked well, the roast potatoes were cooked perfect and so was the veggies and stuffing. I had the full English breakfast without bacon and sausage as I am a vegetarian and it was delicious! We had mimosas and bloody Marys to drink which were really nice and then we had the Teapot with Hendricks Gin, its really tasty but in my opinion, overpriced for what it is. We also couldn't resist trying the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and that was also delicious. We were pleased we visited this restaurant and would go back again.

Now before I say anything its important to note this was my first time in this establishment. It looks gorgeous. I dont't think you could find a more xmas looking place this side of the north pole. However this is where the charm stopped. First off I was seated at the back on a sofa, which was like being 5 again and sitting at the adult table. Whilst its comfy its far too low to eat at the tables. I asked to move to a booth and orderd the Surf and Turf special. It looked delicious, however looks can be deceiving. The steak was crispy on the outside and rare on the inside. Contrary to what I'd ordered. The shrimp was luke warm at the beginning and cold by the time I was done with my meal. I returned my meal as I'd been put off by the crispy mushy steak and the cold shrimp. I expected not to have to pay as is standard for bad meals, at which point the staff who I had to flag down at every point as they didn't even bother to check how my meal was, told me they'd have to check with the manager which was fair enough. To be fair the manager did comp my food and my drink, but only after I told her the staff had at no point checked on my meal. I won't be going back, but it looks by the other reviews it might just be my bad luck.

Good Pub in the center of Manhattan. Good offer of drinks and prompt service. Definately worth a visit for having a drink (or two) ...

Have been a semi regular here for mid-week drinks since it opened, and it's always been a nice place to spend a couple of hours with good beers (London Pride in particular). The enemy had a hankering for a roast over Labor Day weekend, so we went down this past Sunday with our eldest and her boyfriend. In summary; absolutely superb. 2 x had the 1/2 roast chicken, 1 x had the roast beef, and I had fish and chips. All meals were very large, very fresh (even at the 'problem' time of 4.30pm) and very generous helpings. Meat, 2 x veg, roast potatoes, large gravy boat, yorkshire puds, and even brought my wife some mint sauce. $25 for the roast (choice of 3 x meats), and somehow my wife and daughter's boyfriend were then able to demolish a sticky toffee pudding each as well...which was also fantastic apparently. Highly recommend, especially if you like peace and quiet since the place was almost empty.

Being an Englishman in New York it was a real treat to find this gem (hidden behind a mass of scaffolding). I was impressed with the authentic feel of the place and the cider and fish n chips did not disappoint. I don't usually enjoy mushy peas, but their offering was delicious. Friendly staff - I was even given a tour of the place. I really liked the 'garden room' and 'the snug' upstairs. The place was quiet at first, but by the end of my meal the place was buzzing.

One of the must go to places in the BA to cure homesickness if you ask me. There's nothing like a plate of fish and chips to perk you up when you're missing God's country.

We had a great Christmas meal here, staff lovely and very helpful with prior booking arrangements from UK. So good with our children too! Thank you.

Scots other bar as been around a few years longer than the Dog and Bone on 3rd and 25th. This theme is an olde English log cabin , country home so dark wood, booths and more tables and chairs. Beers, spirits and wines as expected and prices. As the place is busier the staff are buzzing around delivering food and beers to the clients by bar. The clientele are more midtown business types staple and the odd tourist walkbys it appears. Atmosphere busy, loud, energetic. If walking around Midtown between 5th , 3rd 30th to Downtown the Churchill should be a stop off point.

This place is beautiful all over. The food, the staff, the atmosphere. Especially the bacon, its the real deal. We will defo come back.

Came here with a group at the last minute. Nice long table. Nice quiet brunch. I had English breakfast. Was good. Good food for all.in our party. Nice holiday decor

Smug, arrogant bar man who thinks he's got a sense of humour. Pub full of locals but was a bit cliquey and none too friendly. It had been recommended to us by a friend but was seriously disappointed. I'd give this one a miss, nothing special

We were four couples looking for a casual place to eat after attending a Broadway play. We chose The Churchill because we could walk to our hotel after eating. It's pub environment is very casual but also very inviting. All 8 people in our group agreed the food was great - better than the pub grub you might expect. Several people gave the fish and chips 2 thumbs up and my Churchill Burger with bleu cheese was delicious. The staff members were friendly, very efficient and happy to make recommendations to the vegan in our group. The beer drinkers in the group were impressed with the freshness of the Scottish and Irish draft beers they choose. Will definitely visit again when we return the NYC.

Been there to get our selves “Sunday roast” i was so exited but unfortunately the Roasty wasn’t what I expected but yet the place and the atmosphere and the staf was terrific

This is a nice cozy place to go on a cold Sunday afternoon, which is just what we did. Met my cousin here while he was visiting from the UK. The place is dark, cozy and bubbling with excitement from front to back. We had traditional Sunday Roast, which consisted of perfectly cooked lamb chops, Yorkshire pudding, lots of vegetables and sauces. A great meal if you are into pub fare. Service a bit spotty, but the place was packed, so we did okay. This place isn't fancy, but it is authentic, so if you want to visit the UK without getting on an airplane, this is the place to go.

Were looking for a cozy, affordable, clean and warm place to have lunch and found this amazing traditional English pub with amazing service and delicious food! The ambiance is super nice decorated, the staff is super attentive and kind and the food was really good! They have a nice menu with many options for everyone's likes! Will be back whenever I am back in NY!

Like to stop in here when I am in NYC. Nice selection of beer and Bangers and Mash is comfort food. Service is always pleasant. Can be crowded and noisy and I take a pass on those nights. Otherwise, nice place to get away, have a nice supper and a pint.

Had the Sausage, beans, eggs and chips...! Even came with Toast certainly wasn’t disappointed. Excellent service, Exceptional value

This was a great place for a get together. The decor was amazing for Christmas, the food was great and FRESH GUINESS!

Great food and cozy atmosphere. Was there by self for dinner after work from out of town and waitress made sure I wasn’t left alone.

We used the Churchill as a meeting point for a large group of friends on a recent trip to NY. We regular ate and drank at the tavern and do not have a bad word to say. Staff were able to cater for large numbers of visitors with professionalism and speed with out losing any of the friendly and efficient service. The food was excellent, with large portions of good home cooked grub! The menu was varied and changed regularly with a specials board updated each day. We also held a private function to celebrate one if our parties 60th birthday. The management and team organised the 'do' provided food and entertainment. We would all certainly recommend this establishment either for a night out or for a lunch whilst you rest your weary feet! A great venue, staff, food and location! What more could you ask for!

Well made food at reasonable prices (for NYC). The service was fast and friendly and the place had a great vibe. I would happily go there again.

Flew in from west coast late and needed some dinner at 12:30 am. Recommended by hotel staff. No wait staff so had to order at the bar. Wifey had fish & chips, which was one slab of fish on a substantial pile of fries. She liked the fish and the breading although the breading was a little undercooked. Daughter had the burger, which was so hefty she could only eat half of it. I had Mac & cheese with bacon. Bacon was practically incinerated and the cheese sauce was so light that the cheese was almost imperceptible. I filled up on all the leftover fries, which were quite good. Despite the lack of staff, the bartender was quite congenial.

A quirky pub based on Sir Winston & good old England. Could not beleive yhey had John Smiths. The only downside was they actually came & asked for more tips !! We had several hours in there & spent over $200

New York's most authentically British fare/drinks/ambience outside of Blighty itself - warm ambience, hearty comfort food & gracious/excellent service. All-around cozy & charming. A must-try for Anglophiles everywhere!

Met with my mate here at the Churchill during my work visit. They’ve tried to make it English theme as much as they can. In the need, quite cozy, comfortable. Does Guinness taste the same- probably not; but all in all, a good visit.

Great brunch (get the eggs benedict)! If you go for dinner, the inventive cocktails and artichoke fries are musts!

Be very wary if you are looking to The Churchill for a wonderfully traditional English Christmas dinner - you'll be sorely disappointed. We scoured the internet for days to book this place at least 6 weeks out from Christmas day. It promised the works and delivered nothing. The booking was confirmed a week before Christmas so we assumed everything would be wonderful. On arrival we were told that they were running about 1/2 an hour late - would we care for a drink at the bar? Not a problem - it was Christmas day so a few delays were to be expected. An hour and a half later we were offered the bar table we were sitting at or we could be seated in the dining area where there were children running amok (not the venue's fault admittedly). We opted for a table (children running around and all) and were told the soup that was advertised had run out but we could have an alternative. Not so bad. We then ordered mains and dessert of one Christmas ham and one Christmas turkey with all the trimmings, one fruit mince pie and one sherry trifle. The waitress who was bordering on downright rude returned to tell us that there was no turkey and no ham but there was chicken stuffed with cranberries and chestnuts - yum!. She returned 20 mins later to tell us that there was no chicken only salmon or lamb chops, AND no veges except brussel sprouts. So that's what we had (my husband isn't a fan of sprouts to say the least!). When it was time for dessert - guess what? They had run out!! They offered us an Irish Coffee instead which was delivered with no cream. The night was a disaster. The food was awful - what there was of it, the waitress was really rude, there was not so much as an apology and we were still charged FULL PRICE!! Lucky we met another couple in the same boat and got slightly sozzled together.

recently had four days in new York, stayed midtown east 29th street , googled English bars before we left as we new of the amount of irish bars in nyc one of the first we came across was the Churchill what a result one street away we called in on our first nite just for drinks, immediately impressed by the friendly atmosphere and the menu , decided to stay for food chose the sunday roast and my first ny burger, food was delicious , the bar staff very attentive and informative making us feel really welcome, during the conversation we realized the bar owner (scott) was from the same town as ourselves what a coincidence we met later that evening . visited quite a few bars during our stay none off which reached the high standards of the Churchill, would really like to thank scott and the team for our warm welcome and superb hospitality , highly recommend this fine establishment to anyone visiting nyc . ps the meatballs and mac n cheese are a must !!!!!!!

Wandered out of the CBS building and needed some place we could sit down, hear ourselves talk and get a good sandwich. It looked like a place I would love to try in the evening for a few beers - nice decor, nice bar and a low key vibe. Our lunch was really good - Cajun chicken and avocado panini and a steak sandwich. Good crisp fries. Other than a bit slow service on a slow day, everything was excellent.

Popped in for a quick drink. Service was really poor. Looked disinterested in tourists. Would not recommend

We dined here on our first evening on our most recent trip to NYC. It was also my birthday and a sunday evening. Varied menu with plenty of choice. Busy night and we had not booked so were given a cramped table by the window. It actually proved to be a good table allowing for plenty of people watching opportunities as diners came and went. Service was good despite the place being busy. Food was good.......i recommend the roast dinber with all the trimmings. Drinks were also very good with plenty of choice. We enjoyed our evening.

We were looking for somewhere to have some breakfast this place is well rated so thought we would give it a try. Although it was gone 1 in the afternoon they did us an English breakfast from the specials board well what can I say bang on the food the service the interior lovely place 5*

Great place for a drink and a bite to eat! Staff are wonderful, a buzzing atmosphere, we had a great night and will definitely be back!

We recently went here for their Traditional Sunday Roast and we were not disappointed! We all had the beef and it was outstanding! The roasted potatoes, parsnips and delicious peas and carrots that accompanied it were amazing! We all got a yorkshire pudding with our plate and they brought out a side of 4 more with more gravy. We all cleared out plates! We also had dessert, bread pudding and sticky toffee pudding. They were outstanding! And of course the beer was good too. I also love the fact that they don't rush you. I think we were there for close to 3 hours, eating, drinking, talking...

I visited this place with friends whilst in New York for a long weekend. We had an amazing evening. It has a lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious.

We had roast chicken and beef. Loads of food and i couldn't eat all mine! They also had London Pride so hubby was happy. We sat in a booth which was nice and cozy. Staff were really friendly.

Granted we were late and a large party but our server could not have made LESS of an effort. Forgot to Put in several of the dishes and then was surly about it. Forgot mine twice actually so I finally got a salad as everyone else was finishing up the pretty tasteless Shepherds pies. Bar looked nice though. Just skip anything that isn’t fried.

I love Britpop and I love Ribena. There are both of things in abundance at the Churchill. We stopped in for some small plates before a show at the Gramercy Theatre. The food was good and served quickly. The music was perfect. If I'm at the Gramercy Theatre again I will definitely eat here.

I came across this pub while heading back to my hotel. It was a quiet Sunday evening, the beer was great (always a good thing in a oub) and the staff friendly and helpful. Struck up a few conversations with others in the bar and generally had a good time. The music was not too loud (important) and had a British slant, appropriately. I called in again during my stay and was greeted warmly by the cute bar tender. Food was good and the beer better. Definitely somewhere to go for a leisurely evening and I will go back if I am in the area and the time is right for a pint of Bellhaven.

Family of 8 adults went here 23rd December for drinks & light dinner. Excellent friendly service & nice atmosphere. The Christmas lishts/decorations were incredible and made us all feel SO Christmassy!! Good food too.

It was the tail end of St. Patrick's "Week" and the place was still running smooth, the staff was incredibly still delightful and the food was authentically British Pub fare. Had an extensive party in the 2nd Floor parlor (supposedly an old Private Investigator's office - spooky!). The staff took splendid care of us.

I had the roast beef hubby had the lamb it was perfect! Best Yorkshire’s I’ve had beef was cooked exactly how I wanted it & was really tasty nice big meal but not too big parsnips tasted great simply perfect staff very attentive tables were cleared very quickly the whole place seems to run like a well oiled ship absolutely lovely great atmosphere the Christmas lights just made it even more cosy we had the rhubarb crumble for dessert & that was amazing too!

Found this bar last night and it was great. Service was excellent, drinks were great quality and very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

I frequent this place often. Jonesy the owner is a great man, the staff are always lovely to me. Food is spot on, drink selection is perfect, and they play the right Christmas songs at Christmas! Happy days!

Good music and atmosphere. Is open late, good service and very well located. Small plates to eat late

This restaurant was recommended to us as a good Christmas Day lunch option as we wanted something different but with a "homey" atmosphere. This place needs Gordon Ramsey to come and rip it apart. The prime rib was over cooked with no jus. I had to ask for horseradish and slather that on it to get it down. The sweet potatoes had zero flavor--not a sweet flavor or a savory flavor. I think they literally just peeled and mashed them. The boiled potatoes were the same way--no seasoning! The bread was stale, cold, and we had to ask for it. My husbands turkey and dressing was ok--but the ham was salty and overlooked. The apple dessert was beyond strange. It had vanilla ice cream on the side which I expected but everything was drizzled with chocolate sauce! Gross!!! The service was friendly but the food completely lacked flavor and imagination--I'd expect better in NYC!

Churchills is a great lace to go for supper and a good beer or wine. The booths at the side are great if you want some privacy. It is like being in your local with great service, traditionally decorated, loved the tartan. We ordered small plates and were surprised at the size and the quality, order less and build up. We couldn't finish ours and the quality was good. Will visit next time in New York.

Very friendly Bar and staff very attentive.Decided to stay for something to eat which did not disappoint.Sausage and mash excellent.Throughout the meal our water glasses were filled up constantly-never get that in the UK! A busy place, lots of noise and music but well worth stumbling upon it.

Have visited a few times throughout the years and it just gets better and better! Great selection of beers and food (recommend the lamb lollipops!). Also the staff are great and very knowledgeable

We decided to visit one of these British themed pubs while out in NYC. The pub was busy but we did manage to get a seat. The staff were friendly and the food was nice. Drinks aren't the cheapest even during happy hour but aside from that it was good. I'd say it's worth coming to have a look if you're visiting from the UK.

Great food, great selection, very cost around the holidays the place was decorated beautifully, clean not however child friendly in that there was no changing table but great pub

This was our second bar that we went to while in New York City. It's nice. They offer food and drinks. We only had drinks. Service was good. Prices were average.

Attended their early morning opening for the Queen's funeral, staff were really excellent, although a somber occasion the atmosphere was friendly especially being away from home at this time, owner came Over and chatted to us after the event, which was appreciated and was nice of her to spend that time with her customers as the bar was very busy, would definitely recommend this bar, and hopefully will get another chance to return before we head home.

Great atmosphere, and a nice alternative than the ubiquitous Irish pub. And, I was nostalgic for Beef-and-Ale pie and a Fuller's LP ....

Went for lunch on St George's Day and it was pretty dire. Meh service, under-seasoned bland food and in urgent need of a makeover. Disappointing

I had an excellent time here! The food was delicious, Fish and Chips, Scotch Eggs, and, Sticky Pudding!! Perfect cocktails, excellent service from the Hostess, all the way through, atmosphere real pub, Just a real GREAT time! Fun Crowd! REAL New York!
A great find
We stumbled across this place by accident but I am so pleased that we found it. We were in need of a drink after a very busy morning walking, sight seeing and shopping. This place appeared like a mirage in a desert! We were given pints of water along with our alcoholic drinks and ended up staying for a couple of hours. It is a traditional British boozer with a welcoming feel and i love the fact the Churhill's speeches are playing in the toilets. we didn't eat here but it seemed popular for food
