Beautiful decor, outstanding French food. We had a very special view from the table in the cutout balcony which led to a very memorable date night

What a nice place, and good food. We had dinner reservations for 4:30 on 12/21, went early to have a glass of wine (and get out of the cold). Bartender was great. Food was great, atmosphere was great. Too bad the service was terrible. Would never go back.

Nice decor and ambiance and busy. But that’s the extent of the good part in my opinion. Walters were nice but service was very slow. Food took too long. Portions small. My tartar trio as a starter was a joke - smallest starter I’ve ever had - no good if hungry. No bread. offered either. Bronzino for main was odd - covered in some peculiar sauce which def wasn’t as described in the menu. Broccolini was good, it had some bitter topping on though- not sure what it was to be honest. Dessert menu poor so didn’t have. All in all a very average experience and wouldn’t return.

Everything was absolutely wonderful! The food was good but the ambiance and service was fantastic!!! Our server Boki was the BEST!!! He honestly made the experience! !! He made our daughter’s birthday truly special! ❣️Will definitely be back again! Thank you Boki!!!

This is my favorite midtown spot. For delicious fancy dinner, beautiful designed place with a great vibe and excellent service. Big shout out for the best dessert the chocolate lava cake. I strongly suggest to check out this place, for a business meeting, or friends gathering, or a romantic dinner or just happy hour dining. Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Very good place for relaxing brunch time with anyone. Broad menue with delicious toast choice did satisfy my craving needs to the fullest. Javier took care of us in the best way possible.

We had lunch at The Consulate on Friday at their midtown location on West 56th Street. The restaurant is stunning on the inside. A curving staircase brings you to a second story dining area. We sat on the ground floor, past the bar with the high top tables. Our seating was banquette style. The restaurant had a New York Restaurant week menu. It featured two courses for $30. In Manhattan, this is a great deal. The special menu was divided into three sections, appetizer, entree and dessert. You choose two. We both started with escargot. There were six, served in the traditional round escargot dish. No shells on the snails, but plenty of butter no parsley. They were quite good. My wife chose the sausage entree. Although it was a special type of sausage, presumably French, it looked like a hot dog served alongside mashed potatoes. I ordered the mussels with fries. The fries were spectacular! They looked like the twice cooked fries, a style that gives them a crisp exterior. The mussels were on the large side, but they were disappointing. The traditional pot they are served in was only about half full. I am guessing there were 12-15 mussels. We had glasses of wine with lunch. They were about $18 each, maybe a little more. The cites du Rhone red was quite good. The Sancerre was good too. The service was good. On the negative side, I thought the entree portions were on the small side. Hopefully they are larger on the regular menu.

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Cesar was an amazing waiter. Knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. Especially great for a special occasion!

The place is incredible. The manager is very professional and elegant. The bartenders are outstanding and very friendly. I had the great time at the bar, will definitely be back for a dinner.

This place is great with great food and the most wonderful bartender full of life and love!! We ordered the Branzino and the braised short rib which was excellent!! Then the pineapple upside down cake!

The food was very good and the portions good sized. The noise downstairs was overwhelming but the dining is upstairs and our table was in the back of the seating area with a charming waiter. However the 2 cocktails were beyond disappointing and the cost for the 2 Martinis with Plymouth Gin was 52 dollars. Even for Manhattan this is expensive but it was not a full out and the olives were inferior. We should have sent them back but did not and have written to the restaurant managers with no response. So do want to prepare others.

The food was great! Really tasty and the service was excellent. Fun vibes with the DJ playing a nice mix of house tunes. I can feel the Bagatelle vibes.

I had bone Marrow, truffle fries also we had escargots and 16 oz dry- aged T bone( I didn’t got chance to take a pic of it cause it was so delicious) also for the dessert we got upside down pineapple cake.Ambience was ON TOP! Definitely recommend to visit! It’s a perfect location close to Central Park,Times Square if you visiting from outside and staying in the area you must visit this place!

The food was superb! The service from all servers and staff was great. From walking into the building, the staff was attentive and during dinner, everyone was great and cleared the tables as needed. Our server was excellent with our reservation note about food allergies and actually had it in hand when we ordered. We had our anniversary here and we’re greeted as such. I would highly recommend this restaurant and would be glad to come back!

Super tasty food, and awesome service from Marvin! I got the tomahawk and split it 3 ways instead of 2, but we also had a lot of appetizers so it was plenty.

The bone marrow was terrific. My wife had the short rib cavatelli and I had the Oxtail special. Both were delicious. They have a nice wine list with a good range of favorites. We will definitely be back.

We had a late lunch elsewhere, so by the time it was dinner we were looking for a nice place to get quality food. The place was beautiful with a very unabated atmosphere. Our server Dragona was exceptional and so sweet. We started with the French onion soup with was perfectly flavored with a rich but not too salty broth, the perfect amount of melty cheese and just the right amount to share! I had the striped bass which was delicious. I loved the variety of vegetables under the fish. They were Pete toy cooked full of flavor with a touch of crispness to them! My husband had the 8oz filet cooked medium rare with mashed potatoes, both were excellent! As a side we split the Brussels sprouts with bacon which were so tasty! They were cooked perfectly with the perfect amount of sweetness and the bacon a great savory accent that wasn’t too overpowering! We were too full for dessert! It was a great quit spot for an elegant dinner out!

We treated a visiting friend there for brunch. It’s our first time trying this and found it very pleasant. Services were great. Food presentation and tastes were amazing. Food options are not a lot but they made everything we ordered wonderful. Very convenient location as well. Will definitely revisit!!

So, the “captain” pressed us in a very aggressive way for a review, so here you go: 1) at a 7:30 seating (in NYC) they were out of the first 2 apps we ordered 2) the well intentioned staff struggled to understand us. They tried, but they didn’t understand much of the discussion 3) the “captain” approached the table and engaged us, but proceeded to tell us what he did not do and that he’d send our waiter. Point is this: don’t ask what you can do, if you have no intention of doing anything 4) ordered a salad as an appetizer and it didn’t come out. 5) food was pretty good, no complaints. 6) then, at the end, the “captain” comes back to the table, and presses us in a weird way for a review and I quote “you will give us a good review, it is very important to me.” It was odd. Seemed like a good concept, but messy at the end of the day. Suggest ownership spend more time in the building. Chain shop with a mid-town address. Deeply disappointing.

Here for dinner. Seated upstairs. Somewhat noisy with the bar below. Pros: Excellent service and beautiful food presentation. The strip steak, halibut, bread pudding, and crème brûlée were delicious. Cons: The tables are too close together. It was uncomfortable hearing every word said at the table next to us and the wait staff having their backside in your face when turned away from our table.

The Consulate Midtown showcases a modern yet classic take on French-inspired cuisine, architecture, and design and exceeded every expectation I had prior to my visit. The impressive service, delightful menu, and stunning architecture made for a perfect night out with friends after a long weekend of travel. From check-in and cocktails to our post-meal crème brûlée, the overall experience had me in awe, and booking another reservation right away. I would highly recommend making The Consulate Midtown a must-visit dining establishment for everything from a girls' night out, date night, or a solo night on the town.

Our first experience at The Counsulate was hands down an amazing experience. Great service by Stefan with providing us with great menu selections on the drinks and main courses. The ambience provided an intimate setting with beautiful decor. Our entire meal from the appetizer, salad, main course and desert were all 5 star.

Went for lunch at 3:30pm. There was only one table and us, server only gave us an appetizer and didn't cared no more. She walked next to us multiple times and never asked how we were doing.

We decided to stop in after my friend found the spot on yelp. It’s a great little spot and atmosphere with friendly staff. Javier took care of us and went above and beyond to make sure we had s nice time.

great spot to grab a nice dinner and drink before a show at carnegie hall. slightly overpriced, but good cocktails and steak. mostly post-work crowd, but again, very convenient and nice ambience for a pre-show dinner

Very nice staff, but only average food and high price. Cavetelli which the waiter said was the signature dish was bland. It could have used some spice. The broccolini was most stems. Small portion of expensive mashed potatoes. The $25 lava cake, served with ice cream, was very good. I went because of the Inkind app which reduced the price by $60, and because of the the surprisingly high ratings. So if you go I would recommend the card. But the ratings are inflated.

Food was great along with ambiance. Romantic yet great for groups and special occasions such as a birthday or anniversary.

Third time coming here, and was never disappointed. First time was a group of five, second and this time I was with a friend. Timely service and really pleasant staff. Crocque Madam is to die for! The food was incredible!! Every dish was so good that we ordered one of the appetizers twice! Our server Javier was amazing!! He was very attentive, knew the menu well, and made our experience so wonderful for our 5 year anniversary. We will def be coming back as we are from the west coast. This was our final night and really made our NYC trip a trip to remember. Love this place for ever.

We visited The Consulate for a nice evening together. Both of us chose the braised short ribs from the specials menu, which was a little spur of the moment for us because we had intended to order steaks. However, we were not disappointed. The braised short ribs were so good and the au gratin potatoes were spot on. Additionally we shared the bread pudding, which was also delicious. Oftentimes I feel that it's difficult for high-end restaurants to stand out in the crowd. It's pretty easy to find great food in New York, but often the service is ho-hum, or the music is too loud, or the tables are too close. The Consulate stands out because they've managed to balance atmosphere and service in addition to having really good food. We could carry on a conversation without yelling over loud music, we had a little more space between tables for privacy than lots of other restaurants in this category currently provide, and we couldn't help but notice a level of professionalism among all of the staff. Our server Daranni especially was professional, attentive, and well-versed in the menu and bar items. She elevated our experience and made this a splurge-worthy evening out. Bottom line: within the very crowded high-end steakhouse offerings in New York, service and atmosphere combined with the beautifully presented menu items makes The Consulate top of our list for evenings out in midtown.

Beautiful venue, really warm and cosy. The French/American cuisine was delicious. Portion size, presentation and taste was amazing. Everything was also really well priced. We only dropped in initially for a couple of drinks, which quickly turned into dinner. Staff and service downstairs were excellent, our food waitress on the other hand needs to find a different job. I have never come across anyone who hated being at work more and was so not interested in helping. She brought down the whole place, hence my 3 star rating. Without her, this place is definitely a 5 star. I hope management read this and sack her, only to improve the standard of what this place really is.

Dinner at The Consulate was a lovely occasion with most of the dishes being good. Some like the Tartare Trio and Halibut were disappointing. Concerningly, the bill included an item that we did not order and we only discovered this long after we left the restaurant. So, please check your bill before paying...

Came here for a work dinner and it was great. Got the steak frites and the lava cake and everything was yummy. Javier was our server and he was lovely!

I just have to say that I was amazed with service and ambiance! I had lunch here 3 days ago, and I only have good things to say about it. Ask for Tamara, she was awesome! Also try Lamb tartare, and Avocado toast! It was great. I haven’t seen a lot of people mentioning the coffe here, but it’s better than in the coffe shop in my opinion.

We really liked signature cocktails and mussels were the biggest one I ever saw! Music and ambience was vert classy , perfect spot for Sunday evening.

Our experience was fantastic. We stumbled across this restaurant while walking around town. The menu (French Modern American Bistro) is very appealing. I had the Korean short ribs with cavatelli pasta, my wife chose the pesto pasta with broccolini. Both were very good, but the pesto was just a bit too tight, needed a little more moisture. Service was excellent.

We are here in new york for our honeymoon and our concierge recommend this place. We agreed and came and my god it was the best thing we have done. On our annual Christmas visit to New York City, my wife and I dined at The Consulate. The Consulate is a sophisticated and elegant French/American restaurant on 56th Street. They have a full bar with bar seating and dining rooms on two floors. We began by sharing the mussels appetizer. They were served in a delicious sauce of white wine, shallots, garlic and butter. They also served charred bread alongside. Entrees were the steak frites and the short ribs and cavatelli. The steak was cooked perfectly, served in a rich peppercorn sauce with a huge portion of fries. The short ribs and cavatelli was served with herb ricotta in a delicious sauce. The staff was very friendly and professional. The Consulate is a very good choice for a fine dining experience.

Went here twice for dinner and it was excellent both times. Everything we had was delicious: mushroom flatbread, soup, watermelon & tomato salad, grilled artichoke, flank steak, branzino, and pineapple upside cake with sorbet. Also it’s a great deal on cocktails for happy hour. Nice pre-theatre menu. It’s all a good value. The service is personable & genuine. Great atmosphere. This location is near several hotels: the Whitby, the Peninsula, and St Regis. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely dining experience at The Consulate (MidTown). The ambience of the restaurant is perfect for a great night out and a lovely meal. The restaurant is in a great location - easy to access but tucked away enough to be on a quiet street. The service is impeccable - just the right amount of attention and the cadence of bringing the food out was spot-on. There is a great drink menu and the cocktails were made just right. The food, from the appetitzers, salads, and main courses were show stoppers! My wife and I each had soup (the BEST french onion soup I've ever had), then shared a salad and a main course which was a perfect amount of food for us. The flavors in everything were out of this world. We LOVED this meal! So happy we found this restaurant and hope to dine here again. You will not regret it!

Expectations (after reading many reviews) were very high and were partly disappointed. Good meat with fried potatoes (but we ate better quality in New York); also tried a sea bass with (lots) of vegetables, which was satisfactory. Good desserts tried (pineapple pie and chocolate cake). The bread (a bit hard) was brought to us only on request. Service was slow and overall unprofessional. Fairly high prices.

Went to the Consulate Midtown with family after a show on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was nearly empty so certainly did not expect kitchen issues. The food was cold and the steak was not tender. It was also overly sauced despite the fact that the menu does not mention this. The staff tried hard to make amends and prepared a new steak, but it took too long in the kitchen. At that point I took it to go since everyone else was done with their meal and I needed to catch a train. To make matters worse, I was given the wrong leftovers. In the end, I paid for a very expensive meal and ate French fries for dinner. I will not be returning to the consulate nor do I recommend it.

We came for Oysters, Kevin was the bartender and he was amazing!! 10/10 will recommend. The oysters are so fresh and the drinks are great

Stylish restaurant with a modern touch of decor. Selection of wines was expansive. Food was delicious and artfully presented. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. I truly recommend this venue.

What a great restaurant! Love the atmosphere- amazing prix fixe menu and happy hour! Staff is wonderful - especially our server Cesar! Recommend for a pre- show dinner or any time!

Amazing and tasty food, wonderful and hospitable staff, great interior. Decent prices. Very clean and tidy restaurant at good and accessible location. Great place for brunch, but having a dinner is highly recommendable, since it was a great experience and enjoyment. Going for a drink (signature and classic cocktails) and a snack was also very pleasant. Definitely a MUST visit place.

Amazing host and waiter. Great recommendations. Delicious cocktail “Lola” and steak frites was phenomenal. The wild mushroom truffle flat bread???? Heavenly.

Such a great place to have a brunch with your friends. The food is delicious and came supper fast. Friendly stuff and pretty venue for deferent accessions. Highly recommend this spot for dinner or brunch!

The food was great -- the service was awful. Waiter zooms in and takes order as fast as he can, then zooms off. No connection, no sense of welcome. My glass of wine arrived after the first course was served. This after a second request to find and serve it. That's just an example of the whole evening -- chasing down our dinner all night. 2-3 requests to get anything, The restaurant was hardly full when we sat down, but a manager responded that they were "overwhelmed." Really? I expected a nice, pleasant, relaxing evening, What I got was a sense of being in the middle of a bunch of different servers rushing around -- but accomplishing little.

Ash was the best bartender and even gave us some great travel tips! The food was very good! Crab cake was amazing!

We asked for a table downstairs and the hostess said one wasn't available but that there were plenty of great tables upstairs. We said we can't do stairs and turned to leave when the hostess said "wait" and then seated us downstairs. We ordered the Tuna Tartare with avocado, yuzu and crispy shallots but you'll see in the photo, it came without the crispy shallots. I don't know if they would have made a difference because the dish was great but forgetting/not apologising for not having an ingredient listed on the menu is not what one would expect from a place like this. I also found a fish scale in the Tuna Tartare, which was a bit gross. The Grilled Salmon with sautèd spinach had a beautiful crispy and tasty skin and whatever citrus sauce they put on top was really tasty. I did find some bones in the fish so just check that before eating. The customer service was friendly and decent. I did get given a plate that had not been washed properly and when I asked to check that it was clean, the lady took it away and instead of getting me a nice clean one, wiped it with a wet cloth and brought it straight back. It wasn't even properly cleaned and smelled of wet kitchen cloth. It was also not dry so I had to wipe it with my napkin! We were asked if everything was ok and I suppose I should have mentioned it then but I felt that the staff would get irritated with us so I didn't. Overall I think the food is delicious and would certainly go back to sample more of their great menu, however making a reservation could be prudent.

First time having brunch here and I was thoroughly impressed - the vibes were amazing, excellent service, delicious drinks and the food was excellent. The manager came out with complimentary dessert for the tables as it was The Consulates birthday. I was invited for a double date but will now be back with my friends for brunch and I will need to try their dinner menu.

We came here on2/26 celebrated with great cocktails by Caleb. Who has tremendous skills and makes the best cocktails the food is awesome too The place is pure class. Class 110 percent Happy hour is great too 330pm. It’s a 10/10. Gustavo and the whole staff are awesome Caleb is the man

Several weeks before our visit, we had reserved a table for 6 people for Christmas Eve at 9:15 p.m. and we were warned on December 23 that we had to change our slot because the kitchens were going to close at 9:30 p.m. We therefore agreed to modify our reservation and took the 8 p.m. slot. As agreed, we arrived at 8 p.m. and were pleasantly surprised by this warm place. We were very satisfied with the dishes we chose. But not at all satisfied with the service! because this one was expeditious! We had not finished the first dish when the second was already on our plate. We quickly understood that he wanted to close quickly. Which spoiled the pleasure of enjoying our meal as well as our New Year's Eve evening! We arrived at 8 p.m. and at 10:01 p.m. we were presented with the note on the table, to make us understand that they were going to close. All this for the damn sum of $884 for 6 people, I should add! It is just scandalous to treat customers like this and even more so in this type of restaurant. Under these conditions, reservations must not be accepted or the establishment must be closed. Rather than taking tourists for cash cows and imbeciles! Who, by the way, keeps them alive! It's a shame, because it gives a bad image of the establishment... what's more, it's French...

This was my first time visiting.As any other restaurant, i didn’t expect much.But i was so wrong!The food was magnificent,the staff was so incredibly nice and the environment was so gorgeous.You must visit!

The place rides the line between casual and fine dining. Delicious food served up quickly by attentive staff, but without pretention. Caesar took great care of us. The atmosphere can get a little loud. Our table had the steak, fish, and chicken, and each of us thoroughly enjoyed what we had. The chocolate lava cake for dessert was fine, but unsurprising. Somewhat expensive place, but I didn't feel cheated for what we got.

This place completely exceeded my expectations. Food was absolutely incredible, service and ambience were perfect. Our server Javier was very attentive and the manager Vancho as well. More than five stars for this restaurant. Will be back soon!

My wife and I were in Manhattan at Sixth and 57th St and decided to try the Consulate for lunch. The atmosphere was elegant and sophisticated. Their lunch special (29.95 for two courses) was an incredible surprise. Perfect celery soup served hot in a heat bowl was followed by grilled branzino with an arugula and fennel salad. A glass of house wine for 10 dollars kept it well priced for the area. I also have to compliment the friendly attentive staff.

Fantastic food flavors will satisfy any of your cravings, elegant atmosphere and amazing service definitely make your experience very memorable and make you want to come back for more!!!

Absolutely lovely time! Came with friends and had great drinks and food. We had a large assortment of appetizers…the salmon tartare was divine and our server Dragon was very attentive.

The food was excellent, and the staff were incredibly accommodating, helping with all of our requests. We were also seated in a great area of the restaurant.

Food, AMAZING! Service was great and the whole vibe of the restaurant is so nice. Very aesthetically pleasing and super clean. Javier was our server and we loved him!! Got to practice some Spanish :) and had a very lovely lava cake for my dad’s birthday. The branzino was soo good and the short rib cavatelli was awesome. Highly recommend. Next time I’m in NeW York I’m definitely coming back.
