great concert venue ok food

By Vanessa la Valkyria |

Our friend played at this venue and it was a very well run venue in terms of restaurant and bar service. We had good drinks and a big selection of foods. We had some pizza margherita a mediterranean platter and a grilled veggie platter to share. It was nice to have the option to share. Also tried cesar salad and the burger and it was not bad for a concert venue.

Good venue for concerts

By Anne D |

We came here to see Mike Masse, Jeff Hall and friends and it was a fabulous concert. It was nice to be seated at a table and eat dinner before the concert started. Staff were very good and food prices were very reasonable but drink prices were ridiculous, $13 for a glass of wine. Anyway overall a good experience and would return to see Mike and Jeff again.

Mismanaged Venue

By D M |

Have been to the Cutting Room for several performances, most recent was brunch with Dizzy Fish. We were a group of 4 and had purchased main room reserved seating. We arrived at 1pm when doors opened only to find that there were no tables for 4 available. Encountered a rude waitress and an even ruder “manager”. We were told that we would need to split up and sit in the outer room if we wanted seats. The only saving grace was a great performance - even though we were behind a pillar at the bar and couldn’t see the stage, and an amazing bartender who couldn’t have been friendlier. They need to do a way better job managing - can only imagine that they either oversold the event or did not check tickets and let people who purchased outer room tickets take tables in the main room. Not sure we will be returning any time soon.

Shake Rattle & Roll Dueling Piano

Total blast!!! All Request Music, lots of humor, could dance near your table if you wanted to, buffing on dings cool idea, lots of audience participation. Would make a special trip to NYC just to be part of this fun fun night.

great bar great venue

By sarah n |

we saw Rufus Wainwright here on the 4th Dec, we really enjoyed the bar before and the small venue was perfect.

Very cool venue

By dianev1020 |

Came for the Jammy Awards and had an awesome time. The venue is amazing - exception is the bathrooms are inconveniently located in the basement. Other than that, the place is great. The music was amazing! Totally worth the trip to hear the terrific talent. The menu is varied. Lamb sliders sounded like a hit but I went for the Tuna which was good. Would definetly come back.

Burlesque Show and Drinks

By LuckyGirl0717 |

I came here with a group of friends to see a burlesque show and to grab some drinks. The show was OK and the drinks were OK. There isn't anything special about it except for the fact that you can get entertainment while drinking. There is a restaurant and bar that is attached to it (the shows are in the back). It does have cool decor and the ladies bathroom is really interesting!

The best music venue on earth

By Kathrina M |

Yes, I love The Cutting Room. One reason is because my artwork is on permanent display there. I paint musicians. And because the music, events and food are amazing!

Entertainment, food and a New York vibe

By tiffanygrinstead |

We loved our murder mystery brunch at this New York gem. The stage and tables felt connected. It had a beautiful vibe and our party from age 16 to age 50 enjoyed the show. The food was excellent and the celebration of birthdays and a wedding were fun and interactive to the show.

Good Food. staff rude

By Cyndi G |

The food was excellent the staff was Rude. But that is NYC! They have events also here so it is also loud if you are looking for a music event I myself would go elsewhere.

Great discovery

By Smel N. Goot |

Saw california guitar trio gig. Very cool intimate venue, in back of restaurant. Food decent..lobster roll outstanding. During performance the noise from front of restaurant/bar is annoying. Better sound proof doors needed

Amazing atmosphere excellent live music venue and great food

Fabulous music venue

By Paula M |

Delicious reasonable menu, great service. Great space to see Erin Hill, singing to and playing the Harp. Great selection of classic and trendy songs. Very enjoyable evening.

A great night out, with a few suggestions

By carpediemmyfriend |

The cutting room is an intimate music venue, co-owned by actor Chris Noth. If possible, buy tickets online and save a few dollars, and try to catch one of the live musical acts. The food was excellent, especially their burgers. It is an excellent use of your time in NYC to have a more "local" experience as it's not flooded with tourists.

Very Nice Small Live Music Venue

By Mark S |

We attended an amazing show by Amy Lynn and the Honey Men last night as she did her tribute to Janis Joplin. First- Amy Lynn is an amazing entertainer and the show was just off-the-hook fantastic. Second, this venue is a little beauty with great sound and sight lines. Yes, the drink prices are expensive but what in Manhattan isn't? We also had dinner there and the food was good if not great. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The place is dark but beautiful. One tiny criticism, if you want to call it that: the washrooms are WAY downstairs from the music room and the mens' room had one of those annoying attendants who is handing you a towel that you are perfectly capable of doing on your own looking for a tip. As a matter of fact, dude even turned on the water to the sink for me! Anyway, that is a blip on the butt of a great place and a great vice. Loved it!

Awesome Spot to Catch Live Music.

By biblioverken |

A great place to catch live music—an eye-catching and dramatic interior, superb sound system and incredible atmosphere. Was here to catch Scarborough on a Thursday night; they were awesome and the crowd was lively and fun. A great time! Contrary to older reviews, I found our service to be just fine. Our waitress was pleasant and accommodating, and there were no long waits for drinks, even though they were very busy with a capacity crowd. We ordered a Mediterranean sampler, which included some warm flatbread and a variety of four dips—they were all superb. Definitely would come back here again to enjoy another show!

Interesting venue

By Hazel P |

Attended a workshop held at the Cutting Room. It’s an interesting venue for musical events. Since this workshop was based on music it made sense. There’s a lot of atmosphere here. Decor is music themed. The washroom were clean & well kept. Only thing to complain about there was some of the stalls have doors that don’t lock properly. Some improvement on that could be made. Also ability to make the lighting brighter would be good. When we were outside the concert room trying to get pictures with Per Bristow who led the singing workshop we had to use flash because it was so dim. There’s a bar at this venue but I think that all they have. No food as far as I know. Sound system was good.

Wanted to like it

By Peter C |

My wife and I visited the Cutting Room last week with close couple friends and we had a very uneven experience. It was her birthday and I called around lunch to see what they might be able to do to recognize her birthday and the person I spoke with was utterly stumped by this question, I asked if they could do a birthday cake or put candles on a desert, and she seemed to think that was possible. I arrived before the doors opened to make sure we could get tickets for the Elton John cover band my wife wanted to see. I got there around 6:15 and there were already dozens of people lined up on the sidewalk in front of the club. When doors opened I bought four tickets and looked for a table close to the stage. All of the tables closest to the stage had ‘reserved’ notes in them so I got a wobbly table about half way back. My wife and friends showed up around 7 pm and walked right into the club, no tickets needed, made me wonder how many people actually paid for the show, and if I really needed to drop the $125??? Before the show started a server took our drinks order then our food order. We didn’t order anything unusual and ordered at the same time as those at tables immediately around us, but their food came first and they finished their meals and had their tables cleared before our food arrived, which is always super annoying and yes we asked repeatedly for the status of our food. One in our party ordered lamb sliders which arrived cold and way undercooked and had to be sent back. It took nearly an hour for a new order to arrive on our table, which was a huge bummer. The rest of the food seemed OK, but not a great value. A tasteless brownie with ice cream and a candle arrived after the show, which was nice but slightly disappointing. Lastly, the air conditioning was hardly working and it was very warm in the club even before the stage lights came on. And very curiously, both my wife and I were bitten repeatedly by mosquitos through the evening, which was also super annoying. The band was terrific though, and we would likely come back for the right show, but would eat first.

Stylish, intimate, nice food

By shvarz |

We really enjoyed the visit. The place looks very nice. Tables are first-come-first served, we showed up early to get one close to the stage, but there really was no need. First, the view is OK from almost anywhere and second, there was lots of room next to the stage so that one could come over and check out the band up close and personal. We ordered appetizers, which were quite nice even by NYC standards. Drinks were good. Service was friendly and efficient. We'll definitely come here again, excellent venue.

Great intimate venue for live music

By Chris P |

I recently saw a concert here by the great Eddie Brigati. The room was great, the sound excellent and the environment very nice. Staff was ok but the waitress forgot one of my parties drink order and was very slow in filling to order and brought their meal 10 minutes after everyone else (although we ordered at the same time) But overall,it was a good club and I would see a concert there again.

Fun night at the Cutting Room

By Megan E |

We saw Jen Chapin at the Cutting Room last night. Given some past reviews regarding service, our expectations were pretty low. We actually found the service to be excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly. I thought the food was pretty average, but I was going to hear listen to music rather than enjoy a fine meal so I was fine e with that. The place itself was gorgeous and the acoustics were great. We would happily go back.

Pete Molinari at The Cutting Room

By Hisnameisbrian |

Had a fantastic night at the cutting room. We watched Pete Molinari (fantastic singer). The venue was excellent, the staff were friendly. The artists were available afterwards to chat and sign autographs. A very pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend this venue and go back again and again.

Came for music

By Ebunny24 |

I came to see a few bands play and ordered a burger and Mac & cheese. One hour and 10 minutes later they brought me a pizza.?????????????? Really??????? Needless to say I had a street hotdog on my way home. Terrible service! The music was really great....please eat before you go to this place.

Good Performers & Horrible Venue Service

By Mark H |

Nice venue. Great music. Good drinks and decent food. However very poor management. We celebrated a milestone anniversary here and purchased tickets for their Sinatra show based on the tickets stating "first come first seated" arrangement. We arrived just to have a very rude manager seating us at a group table of 8 (we were only 2) in the corner with our backs to the stage. 75% of the tables were open, including many small tables for 2. First-come-first-served and $100/per on tickets turned into us sitting in the 2nd floor balcony by ourselves watching the show from a distance. Steven Maglio was excellent but unfortunately the venue itself is not well run.

Not good

By TrishyLondon_England |

We went to see Darlene Love on Saturday night. They had obviously sold more tickets than they could cope with. We had purchased our tickets some time in advance but when we arrived had to wait in line. When we did get in, the only table we could find was upstairs in a very dark corner with absolutely no view of the stage. Whilst waiting for the artist to perform we ordered dinner, which was finally delivered two hours later. The artist arrived late on stage and performed for under one hour with no encore. It is only a small, intimate venue but, they should not have sold more tickets than they could cope with, the waitress told us that most of the order tickets in the kitchen were not even on the board and in a pile waiting to be organised. The reality is, they knew how many tickets they had sold so they should have been prepared, that is their business, and you should not sell tickets for a show when the audience has absolutely no chance of watching it. I have been to many venues where, when you buy a ticket, they say that this seat has a restricted view, but this was not mentioned. Would never go again.

Great venue

By crigs50 |

What a wonderful evening !! We saw James Maddock and it very much exceeded expectations. Beautiful, funky decor. Great menu and we all enjoyed what we ordered. Wonderful service. The acoustics and sound mixing were fantastic. Can't say enough good things. Looking forward to going again!

Great Peformance, Bad service from Venue

By Been With Benji |

To manage expectations; We recently visited for a Broadway Sings, Taylor Swift Evening. Which Was great...However, the service and general organisation of the venue was extremely poor which ultimately effected the overall experience. In order to keep this brief and give you the highlights relativly quickly, I have summarised each point below: Please note: The below is in no way a review of the performance itself, Broadway Sings was fantastic. The following is purely a review of our experience of the venue employed staff and general business of the venue NOT the show. You CANNOT use Apple / Google / Samsung Pay here so make sure you bring a physical card. The owners apparently don't trust digital payments, although they will accept your physical credit/debit card, which arguably offers less protection Etc for both parties. (Acceptance of cards in general has apparently only recently been reluctantly introduced). Know that you will be disturbed several times during the show by the staff suggesting that if you haven't already, you should order food, even though this is not mandatory and you had advised them that you will only be having drinks at the start of the evening (The $25.00 PP minimum spend was already more than covered in our first round, so that wasn't the issue). Be ready to leave straight after the show ends. You will be ushered from your seat, straight after the performance, so make sure your good to go and have finished your food and drinks, you will have already paid the check as that also would have been bought to you during the performance. If this helps just one person, at least prepare for a visit, or better still, the venue fixes these issues, that's good with me.

Great for the live music...could use a dance floor

By Cynhoff |

When you get a good table, it is great! Some tables are either too crowded or you get knocked into by the wait staff or other patrons. The food & drinks are pretty good, but if you need something it is hard to flag down a waitress. The bands are always good & the sound quality is excellent! Would love to be able to dance!

Will never be returning.

By tom a |

I attended a live event last night at The Cutting Room, and I will never be returning. We all showed up to have a fun night out, and we were all treated poorly from the second we arrived. Fine, you don't care about your guests... I can accept that. However, They even treated the performers inappropriately in front of the guests. They sat us in the room, at dirty tables with no menus AS the performers were soundchecking. I watched the table next to me actually lift up the table cloth herself and shake the debris onto the floor. The sound was unacceptable. The show started late because the show before ran late and was cut short. Sure. Things happen. But, for the sound person to yell down on the mic to "wrap it up"??? Wild. If you're looking to book a show here.. Think twice. This was the most unprofessional behavior I have EVER witnessed by a venue.

Great music, great food

By CamPete31 |

2nd visit to this place. Small venue for an intimate evening with a great band. They have great food as well!

Great treatment

By Branan W |

We actually planned an entire long weekend around a show that The Cutting Room was hosting on Sunday night. I called ahead weeks in advance to get some particulars on the show. I spoke with Ryan who was very helpful. We shared a few emails prior. He even gave me a great tip on an excellent hotel nearby. Once we got into the club, we were treated very very well. They went out of the way to make a special night very special for my wife and I. Very impressed. We had good food and excellent wine - the show was amazing. We look forward to having another show (excuse) to return.

Cool Club with a Retro Feel

By JBentraveler |

We were invited to an event at the Cutting Room. It was quite unique and had that old New York type of feel. The wood, curtains and ambience are somewhat out of the turn of the century. One could imagine some old school bands playing here. The bar is quite large and the stage is really set in front of everything. There is an upstairs and a balcony for additional seating. But, there isn't a bad seat in the house. We had appetizers that were very good. The selection of fruits, cheeses and a variety of other items all were well prepared for a club. The service was great and it is a nice place for a unique experience.

Great venue

By edelweiss40 |

My second time here for a David Bowie tribute show. I absolutely love the intimacy of this venue. Interior is beautiful. I have eaten here before and the food is good. Drinks are a bit pricey, but pours are generous. Service is good considering the crowds.

Terrible

By R K |

i came to hear a French cabaret singer who was good - not great. However there was a cover charge and I ordered a Mediterranean platter. It was inedible, i left almost all the food on the plate. The staff was very rude. However the most troubling part of the evening was that the room was overcrowded, I am sure an occupancy that was against Fire Department regulations. To make matters worse a table was put right in front of the doorway into the room, three people were sitting there and the door was subsequently closed. When I told the man in charge it was a fire hazard he was very annoyed. Additionally every table had a candle on it. I don’t appreciate my well being put in jeopardy - the Cutting Room is a disaster waiting to happen.

A Beautiful Venue for Live Music

By executiveproducer |

I visited The Cutting Room recently to attend a musical tribute to Graham Parsons and Townes Van Zant performed by the Cosmic American Derelicts. This place is very spectacular from its guitar formed chandelier to its massive billboard of Jimmy Hendrix. It is located in the upscale area of Park Avenue and it fits in perfectly. The acoustics are great, every seat permits a view of the stage, the prices were ok, and the management was friendly. My only complaint was the servers who were understaffed and unprofessional due to being overwhelmed (on previous visits this was not a problem). If you want to have an enjoyable evening and love live music, this is the place to visit. I highly recommend The Cutting Room.

Doesn't Cut It

By deborah m |

We were there as ticket holders at 9:30PM for a show starting at 10PM, told by the front desk to wait at the bar. Yet we watched others just walk by and seat themselves...(non ticket holders?). The 'hostess' stamping hands of ticket holders insisted that we should wait at the bar. I asked for coat check and she said 'wait a minute' so back at the bar i waited. I decided to just sit on my coat...... So we ordered a drink and really could not hear anything over the ultra loud hard rock piping through the PA system, and neither could the bartender...but we managed to get our drinks pretty quick. The only reason for two stars is the bar staff was doing the best they could. We'll never go back as I would like to keep what is left of my hearing, thank you.

Cindy Blackman Santana Live

By Pemakin |

As a place, atmospheric and intimate. You should get there early if you want to get a good table near the performance stage. The serving was surprisingly slow and it slightly lowers the review. The price level was reasonable. Cindy Santana and the band are true music professionals

A great place for music and food.....

By B_Skyscraper |

For years my wife and I have been friends / fans with the California Guitar Trio. They would play BB King's club, terrible food and a staff that could care less and very high prices. Or The Iridium whose food and ticket prices are also high. I kept telling the band they needed to find a venue that was conducive to their fan base. My brother in law who goes to hundreds of shows a year recommended the Cutting Room as the perfect place for them to play. When the band asked my opinion of the Cutting Room I did not hesitate to recommend it. During the show Paul Richards, one of the Trio was saying how much he enjoyed the venue and thanked me from the stage for suggesting it. The ticket prices at the Cutting Room for the Guitar Trio's show were very affordable at $20. The food and drink of which there was a $20 minimum was also very good. I had ordered a Guinness and one of their flatbread pizzas. The toppings on the pizza were fresh, well prepared and very tasty. Although I would ask that it be cooked well done the next time. My wife ordered the burger, it too was properly prepared and they made the fries well done just as she likes them. The room was not too big just perfect for a trio or a jazz combo and the sound was excellent. If there is ever another band that I like playing the Cutting Room I would not hesitate to go. Check out the Cutting Room I think you'll enjoy your evening.

Pricey

By Leah O |

We had a good time here but was led to believe by the website we needed tickets in advance. We arrived at 9.30pm as advised, but didn’t get seated until gone 10pm and we’re given a table ‘under the arch’, pretty much in the bar! It seems people can sit in the bar for free anyway so felt a little hoodwinked.I ordered a very overpriced bottle of wine, the cheapest on the menu was 30 dollars for a half bottle. I was told I needed to leave my card behind the bar. At the end my card was returned with the receipt which showed a large sum had already been taken for drinks and ‘gratuity’ at a high percent. The performers were awesome and we had fun but the price of the night was high. I would definitely proceed with caution at this place if you’re on a budget.

Great Place for live music

By smotley |

We have been twice now and really enjoy the intimate live music venue and interesting music selections. Each time we paid a $20 cover which seemed reasonable for the quality of the entertainment and received great friendly service from the staff. Would love to return when I am next in NYC. Have not eaten there.

CR is great - but ABBA show was not.

By Scott H |

We’ve been many times for their Broadway Sings series. First- the CR has a great vibe, food is surprisingly good- try the eggplant parm. But tonight the Abba revue honestly was bad - except last 3 songs. I get that it’s interpretive, but people expected an upbeat fun performance- and this was anything but. Talent was strong as always- but the songs were quite disappointing

Good Live Music Theater

By Jon F |

Dinner theater with live music. Saw a great show here - Frank Sinatra tribute with Steve Maglio. The atmosphere is amazing and the sound was great. His show is now every month so we will be back.

Disappointed

By msfighter |

I visited the Cutting Room last weekend while in New York City. After paying a $20 cover to see a female performer, we were ushered into a room behind closed doors. There was a man on stage playing an acoustic guitar and many people sitting at tables listening. My issue is that you could have heard a pin drop in this place! While I understand the basics of nightclub etiquette, this was an uncomfortable silence. There was a card on the table proclaiming a $20 minimum (in addition to the $20 cover!). This was not the New York night life/club experience I was expecting. We went into the main area of the restaurant after about five minutes and finished our drinks...all the while being approached by a woman wanting to read our palms! One of the people in our party gave in and got her palm read...the palm reader gave her generalities about her past (it could have been anyone's past!) and then told her if she wanted to know anything about her future it would cost her an additional $15! We left the place in search of a venue where we could visit with the people we were there to see and hear some good music. Not bound to be a favorite.....

Great place for live music

By executiveproducer |

Went with friends to see the great Terry Reid at this converted playhouse. The location on east 32nd street couldn't have more convenient and accessible. The decor was very unique and included a massive chandelier composed of hanging lighted guitars. Seating was great no matter where you sat, the acoustics were superb, the food was decently priced as were the drinks. The staff was on point and very professional. The attire was NYC casual. I would highly recommended this venue if you want an enjoyable evening of live music with no hassle.

Great live music venue

By Ellen O |

Saw Broadway Sings Bruno Mars. Had to get there early to get a good seat even with advanced tickets but it worked out great. We joined another couple at a larger table. Love the venue. Has a lot of character. We didn't eat. Just had a few drinks. Would definitely go back.

Great place to see a live show. Peter Asher

By Janet F |

We have been here two times. Two days ago being the last time. Each time was a lot of fun. First time we saw Billy J Kramer, and the seating was great. Up close and personal. Billy J was great and we really enjoyed his show. He was so friendly and met with everyone after. The other day we saw Peter Asher. And again Peter met with everyone after. Because we were a party of 6 they reserved a table right up front for us. That was great. The staff was so nice, we had something to eat and really enjoyed to show. I look forward to coming back.

Milo Z

By Anna |

Came here to see Milo Z. He's been on the NY circuit for many years and has always been funkily entertaining. First time in the venue. It's nice looking in the garment district so off the beaten path and I think that is what's killing them. No one was in there on a Friday nite. sad. The cover was $20 but they didn't bother us with an additional 2 drinks per person which is good since we all had at least 3 drinks per person. The stage is a bit awkward on either side are huge columns and you cannot see who is behind them. Milo and his band were great of course. Tight and having fun. 3 saxes, guitar, bass, drums and the hidden keyboardists. The sax players came out into the crowd and jammed. Always a good time. Just what music is all about. There were about 30 people some dancing and grooving. Server was attentive as were the bussers. I would come back again. BTW - drinks are NY prices. But people you have to remember $14 are a 2 ounce pour. Not a single shot. You are still getting your money's worth.

Queue left in the rain, Lauren Hill three hours late, rude serving staff

By Djgold |

We were told doors would open at 8 for a 9pm start. It was pouring with rain and we all had to queue outside. The doors opened after 9. Once inside, and wet, we were crammed together while asked to buy drinks and food. As we approach midnight, I ask my server for my check and am refused, told to wait till the end. I had to seek out a manager just to be able to leave before the end. Lauren Hill came on three hours late after we were forced to endure a tedious documentary she narrated a long time ago. This was a terrible experience. Lauren Hill is Lauren Hill but the management of The Cutting Room is surely incompetent and too greedy.

Went there for a show....ended up eating there (which apparently you're supposed to do)

By Wimperatore |

Nice Manhattan feel place....mainly geared towards shows. We at there before the show (there's a $20/pp minimum for the show, so you might as well eat while you're watching the show). It was a packed night and seating was cramped. Get there early as there a lot of seats/tables with marginal, to no, view. If we didn't end up with a good view, would drop a star or two. Shows vary...we saw a magic/comedy show. Mostly good with one horrible and two excellent performers...others okay too. Not sure I'd go here just for dinner though. The fourth star is because it has good entertainment.

Rubix Cube

By Lisette P |

Went to see Rubix Cube on a Saturday night. We have never visited this venue before. Pleasantly surprised. Drinks were great and the atmosphere was even better. Super fun. Great night out! Will return.

Fantastic intimate venue for a show

By MRK321 |

The Cutting Room has quickly risen up the ranks of my NYC favorite venue list. It is a small venue, which lends itself to a very intimate vibe, but that can also mean that the seats to the side and upstairs aren't going to give you the best view if you're seeing a show that also projects images on the screen behind the stage. For a music venue, I think the food is fantastic. I won't name names, but I think some other venues have just given up on their menu, but not the Cutting Room. I recommend the steak salad. It's awesome. If you're looking for something light, the sushi roll is perfect. I've also found that the waitstaff is super friendly and does their best. The only time I had an issue with the service was during a Darlene Love concert. They poor staff was trying their best, but the place was wall to wall people and they just couldn't keep up. Our waitress comped our meals because of the wait. But hey, I didn't go for the food, and let me tell you something, that night was freaking amazing! I mean, it was a blast. Well worth watching it from the balcony and waiting for a salad. If you go see any established act there, make sure you scan the crowd because this is the place that artists like to go to see other artists. There were a bunch of celebrities at the Peter Asher show and the Darlene Love show. For a great time, find a show you want to see at the Cutting Room and go and enjoy. It's a great place on the NYC live music scene and I highly recommend it.

Surprising find!

By Jjw667 |

We stumbled across this little bar/music club by accident and are glad we did! Nice food, fun atmosphere, good music and the best restrooms we found in the whole of New York!

3 visits so far and have never been disappointed.

By MommaMaria |

This is Matt McAndrew's third time here, so, I've been here 3 times as well. All the seats are pretty decent. Staff is friendly enough. Quality of food is a pleasant surprise. First time, we sat up in the balcony, ok view - brownie sundae - delicious! I can't honestly remember what I ate the second time but I know I loved it! Last night my daughter and I each had one of their burgers- both were juicy and yummy- we were quite full after that. Bathroom journey is like going through a labyrinth, but the actual woman's bathroom is very nice and spacious. Their wine by the glass selection is covers all varietals. All in all a wonderful time.

Great acts to see.

By Rachel S |

Though the food is disgusting, and the service takes away your bottle of wine before it is finished, the performances are of the utmost talent and the club is super cool.

The music room you wish were in your neighborhood

By Jon L |

1. The right size -- just over 200, enabling it to get quality acts but intimate enough that you're never more than 50 feet from the stage. 2. Eclectic acts. 3. Reasonable food and drink (though it's clearly secondary to the music) 4. Easy to get to, friendly, good vibe. What's not to like?

Wonderful show

By Khomus |

A great place with good food and perfect sound. Was there on 29th of April, 2017 to see the show dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Buddy Rich - that was amazing! Dennis Chambers participated it for a couple of numbers, and Cathie Rich was singing. Like a fairytale, indeed! Highly recommend it to anyone.

Great Music Venue

By Cindy M |

For those that love an intimate setting to see live music, this is a premium spot in NYC. Great vibe, great sound, decent food, expensive drinks by friendly bartenders. Enjoy!

Different to say the least

By Lakey1502 |

We visited the cutting room for a birthday drink. We were visiting from the UK and being into my music i really wanted to see the amazing light shade i had seen. So we arrived at the venue and it was dead, (they were setting up for some kind of event) so we took a seat against the bar. When i asked the waitress to make me any cocktail she looked at me with a blank look. Clearly she didn't know how to make a cocktail as i got a martini (not a good one at that). The highlight was the amazing light shade. apart from that sadly a venue with so much potential failed to deliver.

I’ve been going to the Cutting Room since 2001 since the first one opened. Then in 2012 it reopened because in outgrew the space. My favorite place to meet up with friends, enjoy great food, and check out the paintings of musicians on the second floor from Kathrina Miccio!!

Great place for bands

By JCB0787 |

This place had an amazing band on Saturday night . The band was called boogie wonderland and they were awesome. There is a cover and the drinks are not cheap. Overall a great stop

Lovely place

It was near my hotel, great location, very nice place, good food and a lot of drink. Good live music

Beatles Brunch

By Joanne D |

Enjoyed a great show Strawberry Fields, a Beatles tribute band, and lunch. Strawberry Fields will bring you back in time. Each of the band members are outstanding musicians with history too long to list. A most enjoyable time, you will want to see again and again. The Cutting Room offers a comfortable "club" atmosphere with great acoustics. We enjoyed the burgers which were topped with cheese and bacon side of fries. Sinfully delicious! Try the Mojito...simple and perfect. Definitely going back!

Afternoon drinks and evening gig.

By PlanetGaffnet |

Was here for a May 2015 gig featuring Corey Glover (Living Colour) and dUg Pinnick (King's X). Had the pleasure of spending some time with one of the owners (Mark) that afternoon; a quick beer and then back that night for the music. It's a great venue. We need places like this in London. Top tip: if you get the chance, book the VIP seating. It's well worth the few $$s more - reserved stage side seating, waitress service. Great ambiance, good food.

Great Music Bar

By Chris H |

Large bar with live music and good drinks and a really funky guitar chandelier. Worth hanging out in as part of a night out.

For The Eyes, Ears, and Taste Buds!

By Dave Marowitz |

I've been to The Cutting Room several times. It is classy, and yet casual at the same time, with a touch of Greenwich Village all wrapped in one. A night there is more than a good time; it is an experience! Not only do you take in great food, great service, and a wide variety of live music performed nightly by the famous, it is a visual delight as well. This place is adorned with an amazing chandelier constructed out of 12 Fender Stradivarius guitars, the art work of famous musicians, a long bar in the shape of an electric guitar, some museum level items, and much more. I've talked with the owner, Steve Walter, who is a musician himself, and a sincere and friendly guy. He is passionate about, and takes great joy in providing the finest in music, entertainment, to insure that you have an experience that you will never forget. In my view, The Cutting Room is the gold standard for modern day New York City Clubs!

You gotta fight, for your right, to hold on to your money!

By Tyler L |

Good place to catch some surprisingly good local acts, but I could do without the nickel and diming. We went to cutting room to see a coworker perform with his band. Though scheduled to go on at 10:30, they took the stage closer to 11:30. We had to pay a $20 cover though the website mentioned only a $20 minimum. Apparently the bar has the minimum and a table for the performances has a cover. The drink selection was modest with only a few draft beers, about 3 mixed drinks and some wine. Food looked better than it tasted. The steak looked very good but was completely unseasoned. The bands were excellent and the accoustics in the room were very good. It could have been a little quieter as the amps were maxed to 11 and no table is more than 10 feet from the stage, but overall a very good place to catch some music, just be prepared for leaving your wallet.

Nice place for tunes

By kevin a |

The place is really nice inside. The front staff was not so friendly. The venue was in the back of the club. Well set up and the waitress staff was very friendly and helpful. Had a cipollini burger, which was just a burger, came with 1 little cipollini onion. The other dish was salmon. The serving size was a little on the small side, but it was cooked perfect. Over all nice place food ok clean and VG waitress staff in the back. Depending on what your are going to see there. I would say it, it would be worth it. They had a $20 minimum per person that evening. Expect to pay about $60 - $80 per couple

Racist place and worst service

By Sahil G |

5 Indian people we felt place is racist!!! Would give zero stars if I would got there at 10pm with my group of 5 first it took 35 mins to get seat on the hostess came told us the last seats are the seats were all way in the corner in the balcony and just dipped didn’t even lead us to our table but lead everyone else. There were people who check in later and got seated earlier with better seats and got leaded to there tables.Paying $25 per a person to reserve a table for that kind of service is not worth it.

Love this place!

By ListWestchester |

Funky supper club that has great entertainment and good food. Just there for Steve Wexler and the Top Shelf (great band). Small and intimate. You feel like your part of the act. Food is very good. My husband had the salmon and I had the lobster roll. Been there many times and have had other things on menu. All good. The only thing that can be improved is the service. We waited one hour for our food. Don't go hungry.

My First Night in NYC

By TRULYBLESSEDAT60plus |

On my first trip ever to NYC on my first night, I came to the Cutting Room for dinner and to hear the jazz group Mobius. I was there when the doors first opened but wasn't allowed in the seating area until sound check was complete which took another hour (I thought being early was a positive). Once entering the showroom, I ordered the "Gumbo" for dinner which came in this very large bowl with cornbread which seemed to catch other patrons attention as well. The food was excellent and Mobius played almost a two hour set non-stop. They said this was the first time they played "Live" and if that's the case, I witnessed a part of their history. They were great. One note is there is a minimum $20 a person which doesn't include the fare to the show so considering I don't drink and was hungry anyway, dinner and a diet coke was fine. If taking the subway, exiting the "6" at 33rd St puts you less than 20 steps to the front door.

Great place for live music and food!

By BellaJuarez |

I adore the cutting room , I work one block away from it and it is faboulous! the bands selection is great , the food is tasty and the bartender really knows how to do the drinks!. thank you!

Go but get reserved seating.

By Mimz V |

We had balcony seating and really loved the place but by the end of the evening with stiff necks, aching backs, and crossed eyes we found ourselves wondering why they make patrons stare down to the stage through rungs on the balcony and crane their necks to peer under the ornate stage overhang for a good view. There were literally people on the balcony floor trying to get a better view of the big projection screen that was showing movie clips. Take out the stage over hang and replace the balcony rungs with glass and there will be ideal seating in the entire place. The food was average, the service was great. Above all, this is an intimate setting to hear some great music up close and personal but you'll need to spend the extra money for reserved floor seating, until they change the balcony seating to a more sensible viewing area.

Perfect!

By Doreen A |

Purchased tickets to see Samantha Fish at The Cutting Room. We got there a bit early so we sat at the bar for a cocktail and a bite to eat. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating. I had the Cutting Room cocktail and the PESTO PROSCIUTTO Flat Bread pizza with Pine Nuts and Parmesan Cheese - both were excellent. My husband had a cold beer with the NEW ORLEANS GUMBO CHORIZO, ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE, SHRIMP, CHICKEN, OKRA,CAJUN BROTH which was served with corn bread. It was served in a large soup bowl - he loved it! We then moved into the music room and sat in a both and were taken care of by the wait staff enjoying a fabulous cocktail called Figgy Pop made with fig infused vodka. The whole experience will be one of my most favorite!

Great Location, interesting bands

We saw a strange band there, but what a great, great venue! Drinks and food not crazy expensive.. with a really nice vegetable platter and good burger.

Cowsills Concert!

By TDSCM |

Saw the Cowsills in concert on Saturday night. (Dec 8th) The concert was great and was a pretty full house. The location and atmosphere is awesome. The food was pretty good but the service was iffy. Within 2 minutes of sitting down the waitress wanted to take our order for food (drinks I could understand) when we hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu. She scoffed when we said we weren't sure just yet. That was unfortunate because it took another 20- 25 min to then have her come back for a food order. The food was plenty and good, fairly reasonably priced for NYC. (Shrimp po boy and fries was $21 and a burger with cheese and fries was $18). I was a little weirded out that she took my credit card right away and kept it the whole evening. That perhaps is standard in the city but I was concerned about that. We had VIP seating (upgrade on seats) and were told we could sit at any table with a red table cloth. The seats were excellent; very close to the stage. But they were also on top of each other. Tables of 4 and once you sat, pretty much you were sitting until the concert was over. Otherwise four people would have to get up if you had to use the bathroom. The meet and greet after was literally at the front door as it was obvious they wanted you to leave once you got an autograph or picture. The Cowsills were great and literally didn' t push people along but I found the set up of literally putting them at the DOOR was crazy. It's a really cool venue and the atmosphere is wonderful. A few less tables might be good but I guess that would be a decrease in revenue. The bathrooms are down very steep stairs too. I loved the intimacy of the venue as you were literally up close and personal with the artists. We got in line at 6:10 and the doors opened at 6:30. They never checked ids for reservations and I think even if you weren't VIP, you probably could do the meet and greet.

Sonya Hensley

By Wilma W |

This area for live performances in the rear is very nice. I had mac & cheese and roasted brussel sprouts which was very good. Sonya Hensley was performing when I was there and she was superb! Really enjoyed every minute of her performance! A night to remember!

Good show--service/food fair

By bgscaduto |

We went last night,Valentine's Day to see the Sinatra show (Carey Hoffman). Fun, creative decor and GOOD SHOW, but the food and drinks were just average. Service was very slow. The club could use a more experienced service staff.

Want to get the great group of performers out there.

By JoAnne M |

We were in New York City and were walking by the Cutting Room. We had a wonderful dinner and the show starring Steve Maglio and his orchestra were the best we have heard in a very long time. They were phenomenal. We will definitely be returning there.

Great Music Venue

By Kathy C |

Went to this spot to see Katie Kaden. The atmosphere of The Cutting Room is fantastic. I really enjoyed the space and the ambience. It's a great place to catch a show.

Great sound

By Yarrow D |

Good place to see a live band. Very intimate theater and we liked the bar/pub food. We went to see Tony Darrow from the Sopranos and the place was filled with mobster types. It was like being in an episode - without the killings. It was a blast! I will go back for sure to see the Dino Danelli tribute.

A bar, restaurant and music venue, all good

By JVM-Milford-MI |

Met a customer for drinks after work and discovered this gem. The decor is fantastic (see pictures). There is a bar section, a restaurant section and a small music venue section, however, you can get food and/or drink in any of the three places. Our bar tender was busy but friendly and prompt, providing recommendations when asked. After our customer left, my colleague and I stayed for dinner. To our pleasant surprise, there was a band that night. We ate in the music venue and they served while the band played. The place is small but provided a great intimate setting to experience the music. The food was good and the service was as well. Enjoy.

Nice intimate venue

By Bklyn Mafzz |

We were quite surprised when we entered the Cutting Room for the 1st time. It's 100% nicer than the original location was downtown. The 1st thing you see is the chandelier made with electric guitars. Quite a statement piece and I'm guessing one of a kind. There's a long bar when you walk in and some tables outside the main room with a view into the room. Theres also a large video screen you can watch the show on. In the main room tables are small and most are for 4 people which "must" be shared. They're packed fairly close together but definately not the tightest we've experienced. We didn't try any of the special cocktails, but I did have a burger which was just ok. Prices are what you'd expect for Manhattan but be forewarned; in addition to the ticket price there's a per person minimum which was $25 for this show. Our server, Janet, was very nice, efficient. If you want a good seat get there early to wait online. It's 1st come 1st seated. A nice intimate room to see a show.

Nickle and diming

By Extraordinary722201 |

Apparently the 20 dollar admission to shows doesn't grant you the right to sit down. That cost extra.

Show Stopper Extreme

By Skylighter |

We visited this restaurant for a concert. First, I will say something positive. The decor was gorgeous. We were prepared to eat dinner during the concert and we understood in advance that it would be pricey. The issue was the extremely rude, arrogant, and curt waitresses. When you are paying over $100 for a couple to eat on top of the price of the concert tickets, you would expect not to be treated like dirt. The food was ok, not good, not bad. It was about the quality of a discount chain restaurant. But here is the kicker, the restaurant manager stopped the show, told the band that their 2 hour limit was up and we were all ushered out of the restaurant. It was so bizarre.

Fun night out

By arthshapiro |

This restaurant/nightclub is a fun spot. We were there last night to see a preview of a new rock and roll musical. The food was good, the service okay, the ambiance was great. Definitely will be back.

Night of nightmare

By Diana A |

It was a very unfortunate night. We were looking forward to see legendary actor performance Ben Vereen we heard about. We invited friends from Boston and arrived an hour early to get seats. The event was extremely poorly organized. Not only there were no seats available so you can see the performance, we were told by manager that it’s our problem. The place is a restaurant with a minimum $20/person surcharge. Finally we found some seats and were excited to see the artist. The show supposed to start at 7:30. However, at 8:15 there were no announcement or anything indication when the performance will start. When I approached manager and asked him when it will start the answer was whenever artist will feel liked it. I was in shocked of such disrespect and ignorance. We had other arrangements later on and had no choice as to leave. We were not the only group who left. Others were leaving as well. If you ever have any events at Cutting Room Do Not go!

No matter how good the music the service destroys the experience

By Patagoniamom |

Where do I begin? There are just so many things wrong with The Cutting Room it's hard to decide. One would think that a place owned by Mr. Big would have its act together but that's not the case. Reservations for music acts are not taken for less than 10 yet upon arrival multiple tables of 4 have reserved signs on them . Our reservation made by the manager of the band we were seeing was not honored, and Anthony the maitre d was surly as well. Unlike City Winery which is a gem of a civilized place to hear music, the Cutting Room offers stampede seating with a crew of clueless staff. Upon being seated you will wait forever to have your overpriced mediocre cold food delivered to your table. Maybe if you are lucky, you'll get a fork and knife but probably not. Oh ! Let's talk about going to the restroom downstairs passed the hallway used as a disgusting storage facility ! Nowhere to store their garbage? Hey if you are visiting NYC and want to see some music cut out The Cutting Room and head to City Winery or The Rockwood Music Hall until Mr. Big gets his staff ready for prime time.

Amazing Rock Club

By Nyc G |

The place is like an old school theater in a small rock club. Great for an intimate performance. The decor is stunning. The sound system is top notch. The food is pub/comfort style. The crab cakes were amazing. What else can I say. It's a NY treasure. My cousin even went to a rock and roll wedding there!

Great Place to see a show, fun space!

By irinalapin |

I was here a few weeks ago to see a show called "Cabaret Moderne". What fun! I'd never been to the Cutting Room before, but it's a great space. The bar is spacious as you enter, lots of high top tables, along with ample bar space. Bartenders were very friendly. The space has a dark and paneled wood atmosphere with a gorgeous glass chandelier in the middle of the room. There is another room on the side with couches and tables and a cozy, upscale pub like atmosphere. The venue itself was just great! Tables weren't too crowded, and every seat was a good seat for this music, dancing and burlesque revue. The waitresses we had was very friendly, and attentive. Generally, you wouldn't expect much by way of food, but we had an assorted humus plate with nice warm pita that was lovely. I recommend seeing a show here - best idea is to get there a bit early and have a drink at the bar, and then once the doors open nab a table of your choice.

Stiffed by the waitress 2/6/2015, apparently not unusual for this place

By M D |

We went last night, 2/6/2015 to see Top Shelf. The music gets 5 starts, but we were stiffed by the waitress and later found from other websites that others had the same experience at this establishment. We paid our bill in cash, handing the folder to the waitress on the way out. She came running out (pretty, slender blonde) saying we didn't pay enough, when we had given a $30+ tip on a $108 bill. She counted what was in her hand, and it was $103, claiming we didn't even leave enough for the bill. We were in a hurry to catch up with our friends who needed to get a train and at the time, gave her the benefit of the doubt. Even apologized! However, on the train home, my husband (knowing how much he started with at the beginning of the evening) counted the money in his wallet and realized that he HAD in fact given her the full intended amount. If you pay cash, have the wait service COUNT IT IN FRONT OF YOU. I strongly suggest you check your credit card charges if you use a card as well. The feedback about the service here is atrocious, so buyer beware. If it weren't for the music, the place would've closed down long ago.

Fabulous night

By ELSUSHI921 |

Great food, in a beautiful setting, lots of great people watching, excellent bar scene also..The shows they have are top notch.the menu is great, and served beautifully. I totally recommend this spot, for fine dining, or catching a show in a nightclub setting..definitely look around, everything from the walls, to the lighting fixtures, artwork and mire are interesting and have a story..sign up to get emails on what venues will be there. Just a great night.

Cowsills blow away sold out show!!!

By archiedelver |

We went to the Cutting Room Saturday night to see the Cowsills 50th anniversary show. Were a bit apprehensive about the venue, given some of the harsh criticism found in reviews here. The negatives were the doors allegedly never open on time. They were close to an hour late in opening, then once opened, it was an extremely loooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg process. And it wasn't because they were seating people, we had to find the approved VIP area ourselves. Another problem was the meet and greet. It was supposed to be for the VIP ticket holders, whose tickets were twice that of general admission. While I credit the Cowsills for their availability, it would have been nice to been allowed to the m & g first, to refect the price difference. We were exhausted, as I'm sure the band was, just sayin... Finally, the magical mystery tour to the restrooms reminded me of the band Spinal Tap trying to find the stage door, through the bowels of the building, around the bend, past the kitchen, across from the Green Room, etc. Oh, and have plenty of singles to tip the washroom attendant, unless you want to look like a schmuck. The $20 minimum was inconsequential, as two drinks for $24 gets you there. We didn't eat, but the food looked good. The positives include the general vibe, decor, and accoustics. The waitress was friendly and efficient, and we encountered none of the debacles experienced by other reviewers at "tab time" , though we did count it out to her in her precense, a safe policy at any of these clubs. Finally, a big positive for having the good sense to book this particular event. We would come back for the right show.

Really fun night and good drinks!

By laurajy79 |

Went on valentines night to see the "love bites" show, had a brilliant time, performers were great and very funny. Really cool venue and drinks were good, only downside was it took a long time for drinks to be served but it was understandable as it was busy. Will 100% return and recommend to friends 😊

Good place to see local bands

By Sockster |

Came here last night after finding out a friend of mine's band was playing. Venue was very nice and the music room in the back had great sound and nightlines. Drinks were good a reasonable. Service was good too. Recommended!

Peter Asher and Albert Lee

By Debbie R |

Amazing venue. Highly recommend it! Great food! Awesome acoustics! Wonderful meeting Peter Asher after the show! I'll definitely be back!

Holly Molly

By Rgd973 |

A very relaxed place to eat and listen to live music. I came here to see Holly Bowling play on NYE before the Phish show at MSG. The venue has a nice intimate atmosphere. To sum it all up...It’s nice being able to listen to live music in a dimly lit room eating good food while sipping on a cocktail without anyone in the dining room talking loudly or being bothersome. It’s that kind of place. It may change with the type of band playing, and may draw a different crowd nightly.

My first time, and will be the last time coming here

By J H |

Owner Steve was rude and rushed me to finish my food while I was still eating at the bar. He took my food even after I told him I was still working on it. Later, he came up to me and said, "I still have your food at the counter and can bring it back to you," which I found extremely offensive. You rushed me to clear my plate and then tried to return food you had already removed. I've lived in New York for over 10 years and have never experienced anything like this before. This was my first visit here, and it will definitely be my last. I don't know if he was just being racist because he did not do that to any other customers there I was the only single Asian woman sitting at the bar by myself for at least 2 to 3 hours, and he never approached other customers to remove their food like he did with me. And yet, you claim to be proud of being located next to K-Town? You're not even the server--you're the owner. Who behaves like that? I know multiple people who own restaurants in NYC, and none of them would have acted this way. I was a paying customer, and I paid for my food. If you had an issue with the bartender, you had no right to take it out on me by aggressively removing food from the table while I was still eating. This is not a false review. I had multiple witnesses at the time, and as you can see from the comment Steve wrote, he isn't even apologizing for his behavior. It does not matter if it was about the race or not. I am just talking about the fact that he was being rude with bad customer service.

Just Amazing!!!

By Stacey S |

Haven't been hear recently (unfortunately trip advisor won't allow me to go back a couple of years) but we had the most amazing and memorable night here. Went on the basis that we love live music and because its owned by chris noth who plays mr big in sex in the city (im a big sitc fan!). However, we could never have imagined that years later we would be still talking about it as the best night we had in nyc! The musician playing that night was Theo Eastwind and his band who was just out if this world. The food wasn't brilliant but we didn't go for that and the snacks we had were fine. Cocktails were good, as was the wine. But the whole atmosphere was brilliant. Friendly locals who we got into a 'who can put the best song on the dukebox' competition with in the main bar. Walked out about 12am into a hurricane (no I'm not joking) but a lovely new yorker who was waiting for a cab on the street corner gave us his so my dress didnt get even wetter! For a few hours that night we really felt as if two normal english folk had truly experienced what it might be like to be a new yorker...and it was fab!!! You have to make this place if you love music and want to feel like part of the city just for a little while!

Nice place to see music

Had a Good Time at The Cutting Room!!!

By AfrinetNYC |

I attended the Pre-release event for Joe Caro and The Met Band at The Cutting Room in October. The venue is beautiful! I liked the guitar chandelier. This place has a great atmosphere and is an intimate venue which allows you to be up close to the performance. There was a nice turn out, but not too many people. They serve food and drink. I didn’t eat, but the food looked good. The performance was great!!! I will definitely return in the future. I highly recommend The Cutting Room. Tip: This place is easy to get to. Take the 6 train to the 33rd Street stop.

Went for the entertainment, but the food was good too

By SwitzerNYC |

I don’t consider this fine dining, but we were all happy with our food. Big servings and the burger & fries was good. Pasta selections looked decent too.

Un-Organized!!!

By Knny B |

waited a hour in the rain to get into a party that I was invited too. Originally went inside and then was asked to leave. Was told they were going to reopen and left 100's of patrons waiting in the rain. Then they closed the doors and dropped the gate. Very unfortunate I was not able to get a drink or enjoy this place. Managers were misleading and mis-informative. I will never return here. Poorly managed and operated.

Great time

By Maxine_56_10 |

This was our first time at the Cutting Room so it was all new to us. We didn't know that seats were not reserved for the show so we had to go looking for seats. Well, it wasn't hard. It seems that there aren't any bad seats. However, if you aren't a people person, you may not like the seating arrangements. Very close! The service was excellent! Food was very good. and drinks were good and reasonable. And Lionel was great!!

Great club

By Kathleen P |

We were in New York for the U.S. Open. The match we were supposed to attend was postponed, so we had a free evening. We found the Cutting Room after a web search and decided to give it a try. The cover charge and minimum are reasonable and we found the food to be quite good as well. But it is the quality of the music that makes the Cutting Room stand out. We saw "Brother Josephus and the Love Revolution." Very high energy band with talented musicians. A great way to spend a rainy evening in New York.

The Cutting Room

Last night my husband and I joined some cousins for an enjoyable evening here. We were entertained by by The Nelson twins Gunnar and Matthew. They were fabulous. The only problem we had was it was soo dark, we couldn't read the menu's or see what we were eating. We will definetly go back to The Cutting Room..

Great venue for small concerts

Great acoustics and the place has great look. Food is fine but the space is great for private parties and it was a lot of fun to see a live singer there.

What a night ! Amazing musicians and fantastic venue. Good food and attentive waitress but music out of this world
