Over Rated and Over Priced

I recently went to NYC and heard about the place. So I decided to give it a try. Nice atmosphere, but loud and a bit crowded. The prices are out of control for what you get. You can easily spend over $100 on drinks alone and then spend another $25-$35 or more on food. Not worth it to me. If you have money in your pocket burning a hole in it this it the place for you. Because it will defiantly put a dent in your wallet for a few drinks and only a fair meal.

Cool pub!

By Holly R |

This spot had been on my list for awhile and finally made it there one afternoon. We walked in and got seats right at the bar no problem. I wanted to buy a tee shirt or souvenir but found out you have to buy online. We only stayed for a few drinks some nice conversation with the bartender and got to pin a $1 up on the wall. Whether you’re Irish or not this is worth stopping into when in NYC.

Can't Miss

By Matt S |

The Dead Rabbit is a must-see, for those interested in "bar" history....but, especially for those that enjoy Irish whiskey! The selection of Irish Whiskey here is unparalleled, and one of the best I've seen.....better than most places in Ireland I had the opportunity to visit! The interior is fantastic, with LOTS of bottles around (alas, some of the bottles are very rare and not for sale or consumption of customers..but they are GREAT conversation pieces! ). The cocktail list is unique and impressive as well. Yes, it's expensive...but it IS lower Manhattan. But, it's absolutely a can't miss place!!

Amazing Bar

By Soupy17 |

So glad I found this place during my visit to NY. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The drinks are great. Irish coffee is amazing. I didn’t eat here but everyone said the food was superb. It’s not cheap, but nowhere in NY is, so it’s on a par with everywhere else and definitely worth a try.

Amazing drinks

By Nikki Q |

This was my second time to NYC and The Dead Rabbit in the last year. Both were great! My two favorite drinks were Doctor's Orders and Bells & Whistles. The flavors were interesting and not like anything I had tried before. This is my new must do in NYC and look forward to our return visit. The food was good also :)

Great venue

By Dori-79 |

I had seen this in a New York guide and felt for our group it would be a hit. The place was very “cool”. We loved the feel and decor. They sold souvenirs too which were nice. My only issue was the hostess and one other waitress seemed a bit snooty. If it hadn’t been for them making us feel like children needing a telling off, we would of stayed for the duration. The food was lovely and the Guinness was good!

Noisiest Bar in Town

By John H |

Noisiest Bar in Town. Seriously, you can’t have a decent conversation in this place for all the people shouting at each other. Food was OK, not the best I’ve had but eatable. Mushy peas were not, however. Skip those and stick to the fish and chips. Their English style beer was pretty good. Would not bother going back there.

Great cocktails

By adriansandu1990 |

Visited for lunch. The leek and potato soup was great. Tried the con artist and old timer cocktails, both excellent

Glad we visited

By Chris r |

We were at Andaz Wall Street, just two minutes from the bar, and reception team recommended to us this place. Great cocktails, nice vibe, fun and fast service, we had some appetizers, were delicious. Worth the visit, a must in the area.

Hope for humanity. 😃

By Jonas H |

Historic bar with warm, welcoming staff, unbeatable cocktails and fantastic gins. The ambience is quaint, cosy, busy and the banter beats like a heart. So great. Can't wait to go back. Nearly got myself invited to a Charleston wedding last time. Cheers.

Outstanding, spirits, staff, & music. Viva the Dead Rabbit! Twice terrific, thrice on the horizon. Mask or not, The Rabbit rules.

For day and night

By Bobby |

Nice pub in the Wall Street area, relaxing by day, bustling and crowded at night. Good selection of beers, nice place.

Over rated and over priced

By Rach.E |

Over rated and over priced. Also added a mandatory 25% tip to the bill. Service was ok but not deserving of 25%. Be warned $20 per cocktail too.

Am I in Ireland or New York?

By Sophie |

Wonderful night out option for food and atmosphere! Recently stayed in the financial district and was looking for a place to eat- and this option popped up. Decent location, very short walk. Despite the amount of people and busyness- my boyfriend and I were seated right away at a counter area. Ordered drinks and food. Received a drink similar to a Hot Toddy, but it was their Hot Punch. I also ordered Bangers and Mash while my boyfriend got the Chicken Pot Pie. We both loved our dishes! Reminded me of authentic Irish pubs in Ireland. Great music. Pleasant servers and fast service. Nice atmosphere with the people. Definitely 5 stars, would give it a 10 if possible!

Irish Pub Approved

By Jamie S |

We went to Dead Rabbit after a friend recommended it and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend, who is 99% Irish, said this was a fantastic and authentic Irish pub. It seemed like most of the employees were Irish themselves and the beers were fantastic. I'd recommend getting a reservation because it's a smaller venue and we got there around 1:30 on a Saturday and they were full. Sitting at the bar was delightful, though!

A must visit.

By sue |

Visited for lunch, cocktails and beer. food really good and value for money, ended up chatting to locals and thoroughly enjoyed our visit

Hostess ruined it.

By Victoria R |

Unfortunately, we did not make reservations for bar/area upstairs. But we stayed at the downstairs bar. We initially had a poor experience. We were asked by a server if we would like a table. We said yes. A female hostess with short hair tried to sit us at a table way too small for our party so we politely declined and decided to go to the bar. She yelled at us that we already cleared the table for us and was very rude. She continued to talk about us to the other server. She made us feel very uncomfortable. Luckily the bar tender made up for this poor experience. He was very friendly and the drinks were delicious. I would highly recommend this place if I wasn't for the hostess.

Meh. Maybe just for drinks

By Kenneth V |

Went for brunch. freezing with the door open. nice staff. food just ok. $300 for four brunches and three rounds of guinness. underwhelmed

The coolest place I have ever been.

By moneeboloney |

My niece who lives in NYC took us here for cocktails after a full day of sightseeing and I loved it. I have never had cocktails like that!! And the upstairs was exciting. Make sure to check out the menu upstairs. So original! I could become a regular.

Superb bar run by great people

By simon e |

We visited 4 times in our weeks trip to NYC as we were staying downtown and I can honestly say that it is the best bar I've visited, anywhere, for the following reasons! 1. Totally unpretentious with really friendly, fun staff 2. Awesome, perfectly prepared cocktails (go upstairs for a more relaxed vibe as downstairs is a very lively pub) 3. Great music 4. Delicious, well priced food. 5 Lovely Irish coffees and an immense whiskey selection. My wife is really not a pub person and every evening would surprise me by asking to go out for a drink here! I'd like to say a huge thank you to Jillian and every one there for making us feel so welcome. Happy new year to you all and keep doing what your doing so well.

Over hyped and pretentious

By rachel m |

OK, so maybe it's because we are spoilt with good pubs in Northern Ireland but anywhere that charges you $106 for 5 beer, a sausage roll and a scotch egg is seriously having a laugh. It also didn't have the atmosphere or friendly barstaff that all the publicity for this place raves about. Also 20% tip added on just because but fell free to add more for mediocre service if you wish!! Better bars by far throughout the city.

Feels like a great place to waste a day

By Wend Jay |

It’s always to a treat to visit a place that is known as “The Best.” Constantly rated high and on the top 50 list it was a a must visit place after seeing the Statute of Liberty. The two floors of bar may be perhaps the most homey feeling place I have ever been, with a grand selections of choices and homemade mixers. The cocktails were tasty and innovate. To my surprise even the food was on par. I tried several dishes that were all good but what I felt was the most impressive was the fried chicken with a homemade batter that was delicious and the homemade curry sauce was a great compliment. I would have stayed there all day and continued to throw back artful cocktail one after another.

Tidy Irish Coffee

By Brian M |

Was in for food and a drink, trad band on so stayed for a few. Food was good, Irish coffee is unreal (small, very small but as good as you will get in NYC) Guinness wasn’t bad either. Great staff, girl that served us was on the ball with with keeping the drinks coming. Atmosphere was good, great tunes and mixed Irish and others crowd.

Fun and Delicious

By Aprilmcarroll |

We decided to eat here last minute. Party of 6 no reservations. Located near the Staten Island Ferry. Every employee I came in contact with was great to include the doorman! The hostess was very accommodating and friendly. We sat at the bar which was no problem. Had amazing cocktails and ate amazing food. My go to is Fish and Chips and I loved the Cod that was served in this dish. The atmosphere was great. Definitely make a stop here.

Worth going out of your way for.

By Zoe C |

Went here on the recommendation of several people in England. It was very quiet on a tues lunchtime but it still had a nice feel. I imagine it would be buzzing on an evening. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all - especially the fish and chips. The service was friendly and efficient and we had a much needed pit stop to get out of the heat and have a sit down in the cool!

A place to remember!

By Rerigon |

Excellent service, fast meal prep and awesome ale. The tables and the place were neat and clean. Received with an smile and felt welcome right a

Average Guinness, rude service

By ScrambledLegs |

Nothing irish about this bar - rude staff and only after your money. Guinness isn’t great and the Irish coffee is worse.

Pilgrimage to one of the world's best bars / pub

By Ian Stretch |

I worked in hospitality for 20+ years. As a result have I have visited the world's very best. Dead Rabbit is in my top 3 in the world. Working in the trade I know how hard it is to great at brilliant basics every singe day for every single guest. Clean glasses Clean staff Clean toilets Orgainsed business may seem obvious but many places get fundamentals wrong. Dead Rebbit nails these every single time. I visited NYC for 3 weeks came to DR on lively nights to slow day times, the culture and standard never drops that is a masterpiece of training and detail. Simply if I could I would work here for free. Brilliant food & FRESH!!!!! Cocktails are outrageously good The team are intimate but know when to leave you lost in your phone when needed. A truly inspirational business. To the whole DR team. Thank You Ian

Mediocre much better Bars around

By Marco |

Having seen The Dead Rabbit voted in the top50 bars in the world we thought this is a must to visit. Very disappointed having already spent 3 days in NY was expecting a lot better. The Dead Rabbit is more of a Dead Pigeon we found it to be lacking in atmosphere and it wouldn’t make my top ten bars in NY let alone top 50 in the world. The Beers were average and staff were just ok we didn’t eat here but will say the food looked good and well presented. There are certainly much better bars throughout NYC and I wouldn’t be rushing back to this one

The Dead Rabbit definitely lives up to its reputation as the most awarded bar in the world

By MenuPassport |

Great if you're in the city center of New York doing touristy activities or if you work nearby and need to unwind after a long day. The Dead Rabbit definitely lives up to its reputation as the most awarded bar in the world. You'll find the best beverages in the country served in The Parlor, where you'll amicably compete for a table with other cocktail connoisseurs.

Stick to the drinks

By Adventure757065 |

Boy had the fish and chips and I had the cheese and ham toastie. Fish and Chips soddy and mushy peas bland. Cheese and ham toastie was horribly greasy and bad quality meat given the price. Cocktails were good especially the irish coffee but overall better value out there.

Poor Hospitality

By gareth d |

We visited this bar as it’s rated one of the best in the world - it fell well short. Food was good, beers were good but after only an hour and 30 minutes we were told that our time was up - our table is needed and is reserved for someone else. There was no reserved sign when we sat down and the two tables beside us were shocked that we were essentially being told to leave especially when there were other empty tables - definitely didn’t feel like good hospitality especially when the 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill too! Having travelled from Dublin to attend the Ryder Cup we were looking forward to having a relaxing few beers and watch Saturday afternoon unfold. Disappointing experience would not recommend.

the hype is justified

By Turner S |

An excellent little boozer. It’s on all the lists for best NYC bars and best Guinness. It is well earned. Best Guinness pour I’ve had in the US by far. Fantastic atmosphere with a mix of all ages. Incredible Christmas decorations.

Great vibes

By Joellen Iena |

Cozy pub, nice atmosphere, great cocktails, decent Guinness. Small, so not for big groups (unless there's an upstairs). Great staff, clean toilets. Good pub! 🍻

Dead 🐇

By kage23 |

One big experience.. love the atmosphere very much.. excellent music, chill-axing vibe.. drinks are amazing too.. best place to refresh..all in all best in town

Delicious and wonderful atmosphere!

By QA_Geek |

Delicious and wonderful atmosphere! The corned beef is not deli meat, tuna fresh and burger was perfect. Dead Rabbit whiskey was perfect.

Excellent food in a quirky place

By MJB08 |

Found The Dead Rabbit online when looking up somewhere to grab food nearby after doing the Liberty visit. It was a really lively, vibrant place bustling with atmosphere. We hadn’t booked so we were lucky to get a table. The food was absolutely delicious. Some of the best we had on our trip to NYC. Staff were lovely and friendly and the cost was reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

Perfect spot… poor customer service approach

By B P |

Fall in love with the place!!! Had been there 5-6 times to celebrate my bd!!! All of a sudden I was refused service!?!?!???? Then realized that in one of the mornings visits I told bartender that she looked tired … as in feeling bad about the person!!!! The management took it to another level and absolutely incorrect!!!! Bottom line, perfect spot but just don’t talk to bartenders…. I guess!!!!!

Fantastic pint of Guinness

By William M |

Really great pub in downtown NYC. We went around Christmas and the decorations and lights were really impressive. The food was great and the Guinness is exceptional.

BEST MANHATTAN EVER

By Jennifer M |

I’ve been in a few places in my life and the Manhattan is a go-to drink. I will surely never find one so smooth and sweet.

Racist Bar against Asians, DONT GO

By Y S |

This place is racist and uses violence to chase Asian customers out. We paid for everything and followed what they wanted and all of a sudden three dude shows up and pushed us out of the bar. Horrible place. DONT GO!

Called after a recommendation

By Itiswhatitis |

Called at a bar the previous night and met a guy from Ireland who said if we wanted to go to an Irish bar call here. Now the name could be off putting.. but it was lovely and quaint. No way you would think you were in NYC. Had a couple of drinks before going on our way.

Wow

By Jen |

Such a wonderfully different venue. Staff were so friendly & amazing choice of drinks. Would certainly recommend a visit.

Great atmosphere

By Dianeportadown |

Traditional Irish bar in Downtown Manhattan, really worth a visit .Met Jack the owner who bought us Irish coffees they were so good, definitely worth a visit.Staff are lovely really friendly especially Annabelle I think her name was.

Fun and friendly place to grab a beer

By Pauly E |

Worth stopping by if you are in the vicinity. We timed our visit just right in that we got there early evening and were able to grab a seat. It wasn't long before you couldn't move in the place, it was absolutely rammo! Our bartender was very friendly and kept us topped up as the night progressed. The busy crowd made for a lively and buzzing atmosphere but did make it hard for those standing to grab a drink. Didn't get to sample the cocktail lounge/bar upstairs but heard it was equally lively although less busy than downstairs so as to keep a cosy ambience. Wouldn't necessarily travel for miles to visit for fear of it being too busy - and it's not particularly one of NY's cheaper bars (yes there are one or two of these even in NY!) but if in the neighbourhood or passing then well worth popping in for a pint.

Excellent, one of the best.

By Explore63657807882 |

Dead Rabbit was on the bucket list for our first ever visit to NYC & it was superb from start to finish, we were seated upstairs in the cocktail bar, had some food and a few drinks off the menu. Everything was great, the sliders on the snack menu are very tasty, girlfriend had the lamb chops. Felt like a proper slice of Home, being from Belfast we were delighted with everything we got to experience.

Terrible and over priced

By Matt Doyle |

Food came out cold and not appealing. Ordered a chicken curry which came with two chicken thighs for 25 dollars. I think that’s appalling. only a small tiny bowl of curry sauce came on the side. Had to ask for more and didn’t come out until after i finished my meal. Will not be recommending or revisiting this place.

Super accommodating staff

By cs |

Impromptu visit to NYC left us some free time. Friends all raved about Dead Rabbit, but couldn’t book reservations. Emailed them and they bent over backwards to accommodate. Good food and drinks. Started with sausage roll, then pot pie, and more drinks. Was as good as friends had told us. Will definitely go back.

Second trip, still fabulous

By Sam |

This is my second trip to the Dead Rabbit and it doesn't put a foot wrong. It feels like a modern Irish pub from home, and the cocktails are creatively delicious. The Irish Coffee was the best I've ever tasted. We went for food this time, and the fried chicken was perfect. Thanks to Annie at the bar for great drinks and great craic.

Good vibes

By maripa88 |

I loved the vibe of this place! would return. In my case the food was regular. A very average burger, nothing special. I would return more type to go to the bar. I loved the decoration!

Great time. Great local pub feel. Food was good, service was great, atmosphere top notch!!! I’ll be coming back again!!!

By David H |

Food was great. Took hostesses advice. Sliders, pot pie and fried chicken. Everything was great!!! I’ll be coming back the next time I’m in the area!!!!

Great Irish Whisky!

By Becca H |

Such a fun find!! Loved their Irish Coffee Martini - so smooth! Excellent service and awesome environment. We got to sit in a small booth/room named “Kate”. What a great experience!! Worth noting that only half of the bar stays open until 3. The other half closes at 2. Learned this the hard way.

Good food, great Guinness, Irish music…happy, happy, happy.

By ElvisTaco |

Six tired, thirsty, and hungry tourists show upon Sunday with a 6:00pm reservation. Table not ready, but the Guinness was ready,so we waited a while. Hostess and manager both apologized several times, very professional, even offering to buy us a round. No problem, as the Irish musicians were sitting near the dining room entryway and we could hear the music. We were finally seated in a snug, a nice booth but we were disappointed that we couldn’t see the band. But we could hear them and they were quite good. Good service. We enjoyed dinner, especially the Scotch Eggs and the Sunday Roast. Chicken curry was so-so. We left happy.

Pub Grub

By Kaza T |

Stopped by after visiting the Statue of Liberty and financial district. Atmosphere was good and the food was pretty decent, filling and good value for money. Staff were friendly and attentive even though the place was very busy.

Great pub for a cocktail and a bite

By dsw1737 |

Visited The Dead Rabbit after a great day of sightseeing in NYC. We enjoyed several excellent original cocktails, plus they also offer a great selection of local and international beers on tap. Food was very good pub grub - we shared a couple of sandwiches and highly recommend the corned beef. The staff was friendly and accommodating, even though the pub was very crowded due to the Sunday Seisiún which featured a very talented traditional Irish musical group. We covered a lot of ground during our five day visit to NYC but our pub night at The Dead Rabbit was a highlight! Highly recommended!

Terrific

By Max D |

This is quite an extraordinary place. As I walk in, I’m transported in time to the past. It is not just a pretty place but with great food to accompany it. Where most bars have the usually bar fare that’s passable to downright bad, here, the food is top notch almost bordering to fine dining. The ambiance is great though somewhat tight depending on where you are at the bar. It is quite crowded at times and where most bars clear out around 7pm, here the party is just starting. The menu is great and plentiful that I will definitely come back to try the rest. There are even some really yummy specials depending on the day. The service may be lacking at busy hours. There are just too many customers drinking but wait a little and enjoy.

Disappointed

By RB72 |

We arrived to just grab a drink or two. The ageing doorman with the slicked back hair was rude shouting down from the door about the age of my daughter…18. Then after a while said he would get us a table . Then he let more people in for drinks only for about another 10/15 mins, and kept telling he was getting a table. Then another member of staff came out and said sorry we have no room for you for a drink would you like to wait an hour. I said no and told him we just had wanted a drink in the bar as we were on holiday from Belfast. To be honest disappointing considering the reputation the bar is living on .

Nice vibe

By nico84ro |

Good drinks and food, cool decor and a nice vibe overall. I had some beers and a burger. The burger was very tasty.

Well worth a visit.

By John G |

Very enjoyable visit. Nice ambiance and good quality food. Staff Very friendly and efficient. A little pricy (perhaps that's just NYC) .

Best irish coffee!

By Katie C |

My coworker and I visited the Irish Rabbit during brunch and shared small plates and cocktails. I had the Pimms Cup which was delicious and refreshing, and we shared the trio and the fries and they were both excellent! We got irish coffee to finish and it was excellent! Can't wait to return!

Great bar!!

By R4825FEmichaels |

Stopped in after seeing Ellis Island and had the best time. Our family canceled our dinner reservations and just stayed here!!! It was amazing!! Great food and great service!!

Nice brunch spot

By John |

Stumbled on this place looking for brunch and glad we did. John David was our waiter and he was great. The food was fantastic. I had the curried Shepard’s Pie and I was a little leary seeing curry at an Irish place but it was the best I’ve ever had. My wife had the Irish breakfast and holy crap was it a lot of food. The bread basket was also amazing. The place is funky cool too. Will definitely be back

Great option, clearly orientated to tourists - good overall

By Boggle75 |

Great option, clearly orientated towards a tourist crowd, but great fun and a lovely stop for cocktails. Worth a visit

Grate Time At Dead Rabbit

By Phfil |

A beautiful bar and restaurant, great atmosphere and very kind people. Loved smashed burgers and meat sandwich, would definitely go again many times.

Unfriendly Bar

By Ed B |

This bar styles itself on a traditional Irish pub but is anything but. As with other reviewers, we fell foul of the seat police i.e. you can't sit there, or there, or there. Imagine this in a real Irish pub! Plus what's with giving you a glass of water to have with your Guinness? Is this just service for the sake of tips?

Memorable experience worth 7 hour flight London just for a visit to dead rabbit

By Margaret Lindsay |

We could not praise the food , drink , staff and atmosphere enough , this really is a true treasure and let’s you feel as if there is hope that the good old times can still be had . Traditions should be kept and appreciated

Highly Recommend!!!

By Nichole M |

Monica and Lizzy are exceptional bartenders!! The atmosphere, vibe, music, etc. was amazing!!! I highly recommend!!!

Service friendly just not quick

By Grazer-Florida |

This place is grossly overpriced. The service friendly but is not efficient. Took forever to get an appetizer, which came long after the meal. Different environment and would be willing to try again in a year or so. Took forever to even cash out and the place was not crowded.

Nice cocktails but over hyped

By TheClairevH |

Like a lot of must go to places Dead Rabbit is nice but over hyped got the feeling they were going is a favour... too cool for school bar tenders charging premium prices

Lively vibes and pricey burgers

By dustythoughts |

This was a super fun place to get a casual meal and/or interesting drinks! I liked the smoked cheddar croquettes and the lamb shepherd's pie; my husband's fish & chips were also very good. The atmosphere was super lively, and it was very crowded, so it took a while for us to get our food, but the food was worth the wait. This place is very popular with locals, which I took as a good sign - it would've been worrisome if only tourists ate here. The food is a bit on the expensive side, though, even for NYC ($27 for a burger?).

It's worth visiting

By Blue |

An authentic bar. Very nice cocktails and terrible atmosphere. If you have not visited it I highly recommend it.

If you’re in the area, don’t give up a meal in this special place.

By elim |

We got to restaurant five on a trip, and we discovered an amazing bar restaurant, the food, the service, the design, everything is just an exception. The steaks were great, so was the salmon fish.

The Irish Coffee of your dreams!

By lvagabond9 |

I'd tried two different authentic Irish pubs last winter for Irish coffee and left seriously disappointed...the straw being that both places had lousy coffee and used canned whipped cream. I Googled this winter and "Dead Rabbit" at 30 Water St came up over and over as #1 in the city for Irish coffee. I was visiting the Fraunces Tavern Museum today and remembered. Dead Rabbit is literally around the corner and I finally had the Irish coffee I'd always wanted. Looks like a small portion but the thing about it is that it's so perfect and so satisfying you don't need or want any more. Great coffee, freshly-whipped cream and you'll be asked if you'd like a nutmeg dusting. Not needed but I opted for a light dusting and loved it. I had a bowl of potato leek soup served with an incredible house made Irish wheat bread...a combo so delicious, rich and hearty it was a meal. Warm, congenial server. Terrific ambience. Highly recommended.

Much better than many other imposters.

By PugwashSanFrancisco |

I recently read an article about the owner of this excellent downtown Tavern in which it was mentioned that he based his classy NYC bar and restaurant creation on Kelly’s Cellars in Belfast, a watering hole that I am very fond of and was once upon a time very familiar with. Made too much so! So, myself and my wife and our daughter visiting from San Francisco where we now live, went to check it out for ourselves. We ate brunch one late morning, then an early dinner on a second evening whilst Irish traditional musicians played great sessiun tunes for all in attendance. Great atmosphere. It was a very welcoming, friendly, cozy and enjoyable few hours. The pints of plain (Guinness) were creamy and delicious and poured to James’s Gate perfection and tasted as though you were but a mere mile from the Liffey and not the nearby East and Hudson River equivalents. The food served was also excellent. Clean plates all round from my trio. My wife enjoyed a few mixologist concoctions, where as I stuck with the Liffey sauce, being that it was such a quality pint. I put a dent in that Arthur keg I’d say! The staff were all fantastic. Our servers, girls and guys were excellent, one and all, as too were the evening bartenders ( I solo returned again in the later hours). Special thanks to Ian who I think may have been the manger on duty - a super cordial and friendly gentleman who was great company and a solid ambassador in the few conversations that we had together. Thanks Ian. I mentioned to my young daughter when we were dining at the Dead Rabbit that I also worked behind the stick of Milano’s (another gin mill up the island a few blocks) and I had humbly been voted Best Bartender in NY (1995) during my tenure there, but I was a younger guy back then and I don’t think I concocted such inventive and imaginative cocktails back in that bygone era. So with that background in mind, I have always had a quietly critical eye on watering holes of good distinction and The Dead Rabbit definitely fits the billing as a very good one. I would recommend a visit if you enjoy a mouth wash or two, no raging tv screens annoying the ambiance and beckoning down upon you here and maybe you will meet and make some good company whilst you are behind the authentic walls and windows of The Dead Rabbit. Continued good luck to everyone at this Water Street warm and welcoming watering hole. Slan.

Super Pub

By treiniger |

Cosy pub with good selection of food and huge selection of drinks of all kinds. Proper pub atmosphere as you imagine.

Great bar

By Tipsy panda |

World famous bar. If you’re in Manhattan you need to stop by and have a Manhattan in Manhattan. This bar is everything you’d expect from one the top 50 bars in the world.

Great pub

By Steve G |

Lovely atmosphere, decent beers, good food and excellent staff. Would give 4.5 stars. A bit pricey even for NY prices but we'll worth a visit

Great Bar

By steve m |

Great Bar with lots of character and a really good vibe. We were recommended to visit and it was great, had a few drinks and meal and all was great. Very Busy. Cracking atmosphere and an amazing choice of drinks. Fully Recommended!

Great Old School Bar

By Ross Chandler |

Located in one of the oldest buildings in NYC and right by the financial center of the world, this bar is one of the most unique and decorated establishments that the city has to offer. Besides really good drinks, I would recommend the sliders and bar food here overall. Also, it was once known for remaining open really really late so as NYC continues to open, we cannot wait to experience this on future trips to Tri-State.

Stop in for a drink

By 785jimwilson |

Stopped in for a drink on my way to the Seastreak ferry. Cool Irish bar. Lots of Irish whiskey to choose from. I had a Guiness.

A visit that did not disappoint

By derrygerry |

We had lways wanted to visit the Dead Rabbit and was able to do so on our trip to NYC last week , we were not disappointed , - a really good atmosphere coupled with great quality food, drink and service .

Brings me back to Ireland

By Rick K |

This is as true an Irish bar as I've found in New York. The layout, the food, the menu and the party atmosphere. The staff made sure we never went dry and the food was very good, The close quarters of the bar and the tight seating made sure you had fun and met somebody you didn't know before you entered. The location is perfectly located near the Staten Island ferry and a busy transportation hub. My only concerns, if there are any, is the price of beer is a wee high.

Best Irish Bar in Lower Manhattan

By Robert Potts |

Came here for food and drinks the Waitress Mitchell was absolutely brilliant with us and the Bar Lady didn't get her name but had great sense of humour keep it up.

Niche, but worthwhile

By hrobinson1114 |

Not my style of food, booze, or ambiance, but still warrants five stars. The Dead Rabbit is on the edges of the financial district, near Battery Park. It’s an Irish pub with Irish fare: fish n’ chips, scotch eggs, sausage/bangers n’ mash, burgers, pot pies, and more. I had the fish n’ chips. The fish was well battered and crispy. The sauces were awesome. The chips were well seasoned, but a little mushy on the inside. The drinks are not the same drinks currently shown on the website, which is outdated. I had a gin based drink and a tequila based drink (mad hatters club and flying boat), which were light and tart. I did like them. The most surrounding thing, however, is how much I liked my next two drinks, both Irish Whiskey drinks (I hate dark liquors, but I wanted to be adventurous). I had the Gilbey’s Highball and Spell Spoke. They were both delicious! So I have to say, if you like Irish/pub fare and whiskey, you must give this place a try. The place was noisy and crowded. I recommend making reservations ahead of time if you want something besides a bar seat or stool. Keep in mind I visited on a Monday night after seven. That being said, the staff are courteous, attentive, and I have no complaints. This spot is a little niche, but worthwhile.

Let the spirits overtake ypu!

By Angela M |

Honestly wasnt what i expected - but it will be on my Go Back List everytime.. severs and bartenders really seemed to care! We had great bartender named Jacob - super informative regarding history and drinks. Suggested G gingerbread old fashion - wow! Fabulous .

Our favorite bar to relax and grab drinks

By SkateGirl314 |

Very cool spot. With lots of great beers and mixed drinks. We had already eaten but the food looked very good. We will likely return and try the scotch egg!

A local bar near Wall Street

By StevieRL |

Fabulous bar with loads of character. We went quite late on a weekday and it was crowded. A real locals bar which was exactly what we wanted.

Irish Pub with craft cocktails

By CTLark |

Dined here on a Sunday night during the Christmas holidays. Sat upstairs in The Parlor after 30 minute wait for a table. They do not take reservations. Bar on main floor was packed but fortunate to get two of the three seats in the tiny waiting area. Listened to the authentic Irish band while waiting. Parlor was quieter than bar downstairs- music from downstairs is played on speakers in The Parlor at reasonable volume. Extensive menu of craft drinks in the $18-20 range. Beer selection on draft was limited to just a few. Dead Rabbit Irish Red Ale was a good choice at $8. Menu was a range of burgers, traditional Irish choices of stews, fish and chips, and pies along with two veggie options all in the $19-30 range. Dinner for four with tip was $170. Food was very good with fresh ingredients and subtle flavors. Burgers were definitely far better than most pubs. Interior was a very good facsimile of a pub in Ireland. Worth a stop on a quiet afternoon or evening when you are near the FiDi.

Irish coffee & breakfast

By eboh13 |

Stopped in on a Sunday morning and somehow managed to beat the brunch rush. We sat at the bar and had a great Irish breakfast complete with amazing Irish coffee. Would recommend if you're in search of a taste from home.

Eclectic.

By Anthony G |

A very busy establishment with a hugh range of whiskey, beers and other spirits. Crowded and noisy which is to be expected with sawdust on the floors and two bars downstairs, giving the feel of public and saloon bars. A tad pricey we thought but with a good vibe.

Get yourselves there.

By kez694 |

Visited New York for our honeymoon, after a visit to the 9-11 museum we wanted to find a bar for some food & drink and a moment of thought for the lost ones. I knew dead rabbit was in the area and we made it a must go visit. Walk through the door and welcomed by the most friendly and amazing staff. Perched at the corner of the bar, we were served by a great bar lady who kept the Guinness coming, we ordered food which came and was out of this world. Adian the host at the time spoke to us the whole time we were there and gave us some great advice for our honeymoon whilst in New York. If the owner or manager is reading this review these members of staff are keepers and really represent your business so well.

What a Pub

By UrbanWarior |

Stumbled upon this place just to get in our of the cold and I was pleasantly surprised. It was jam packed and very cozy. Service is very good and they serve old school Irish Coffees (yummy) Prices are in line with the FD and they have real sawdust on the floors.. Excellent

Great dinner!

By mickeyjunkie |

I was staying downtown for a business trip and a coworker suggested The Dead Rabbit as a must try while in the area. My coworker and I decided to walk from West St. which took about 15 minutes. It didn't disappoint! Though very crowded, they seated us within about 10 minutes. The service was quick and very friendly. The food selection was great (and we joked with our server about where the "local rabbit" comes from). My friend ordered the corned beef sliders and I got a burger and both were delicious. A burger and a beer came to about $30 with tip which wasn't outrageous for downtown NYC. It's a lively crowd so if you're looking for a quiet dinner this isn't the place but if you enjoy a good meal in a pub atmosphere it won't disappoint!

Best Christmas Bar

By Mike R |

Outstanding Christmas bar with absolutely wonderful cocktails. Our experience was elevated 10x thanks to our waitress Michelle who was so much fun, so kind to us, and had the best recommendations personalized to each of our tastes. 10/10 would come again (as long as we're still in Michelle's section)

Old fashion!!

By DJK |

So we're in town for a FDNY conference. We flew in a day early to do some sight seeing. I suggested we start here with drinks before 9/11 museum. What a very cool bar, lot of history to the place. Drinks are incredible, I recommend the old fashion!

Not what it was

By Pablo Diablo |

Having been twice before and thought it was superb, I have to say I was disappointed when visiting on Jan 10th 2020. Guinness was not great, previously I thought it was on a par with pints in Dublin, this time it tasted like it came out a can, also the service at the main bar on ground floor was poor, bar was not particularly busy, staff took the order then forgot about it, went and served other people and when someone else came and ordered the same thing that we had, they simply gave them the pints we had been waiting a long time for. I really like the place based on previous visits and really hope this was a one off, I will definitely return to find out.

Extraordinary

By Tamara H |

Party of 4 no reservations. The food was extraordinary, the service was great, the food was fast at being prepared. It is worth coming.

The Irish Rabbit Rules

By The O’Neals |

Staying at the Hilton next door, stopped in for lunch. It was busy but got seats at the bar and ate. Bartender was excellent. Typical Irish pub feel (which we like). On the backside of the famous Franuaces Tavern (maybe misspelled but the place Washington bid farewell to his troops). The food, oh the food - so good! Can’t wait to come back.

Cool pub in Financial district

By mike f |

Cool place in an old area of the financial district. Interesting decor, good service, and delicious food. Two great beer choices also including a red ale and a Pilsner. Prices were reasonable. We’ll be back !

Been there before- cant wait to go again

By Genie B |

Went this past December and despite COVID restrictions had a great time and meal. Sat and ate at the bar- which is always a bonus. The bartenders there are top notch. We were served by the manager, Laura, later on. She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Had the pot pie, grilled cheese, and burger, plus beers and hot drinks. Great way to spend a cold afternoon.

Great Irish coffee!

By asarantidis |

This is a tiny place full of history. If you stop in after a work day, you'll have to fight for a spot at the bar, but it's so worth it. They don't skimp on the whisky either! Their Irish coffee is more an Irish whisky with a dash of coffee! Go and rub elbows with the big wall street folk. You won't be sorry!

Looking for an old bar??

By Iain T |

When in New York it is a must to visit this bar. Sawdust on the floor and every Irish Whiskey you can think of. Great place to spend a wet afternoon.

Lovely bar, but

By Robinjohn66 |

Lovely bar down by battery park and Wall Street. Was recommended by a friend. Looks beautiful with all the Christmas decorations. Staff very friendly. Beware thoe very expensive, two beers two wines And the tip was added to the bill. $64 ohhh dear 😮😮.

Stick with the drinks

By Irisheyes65 |

Our party of 6 sat in a Harry Potter type of train compartment table. The waitress was great, she attentively described the drink choices and made recommendations. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and main courses for each person in our party. Unfortunately, the fish and chips were inedible; soggy, and greasy. The broccoli bowl was bland; didn't have enough dressing and was mainly lettuce. We will not be back for food but may try the bar.

Brilliant bar

By Steve |

This is a fantastic spot in lower Manhattan, so glad we booked a table as it was very busy. Service was great and food of great quality too.

Phenomenal corned beef, awesome vibe, stiff drinks

By RebHead |

The Dead Rabbit is a great place to get a stiff Irish whiskey and/or cold beer after walking around the FiDi all morning. Has a neat Irish- pub vibe, yet not tacky and touristy. Also has a vintage vibe as well- old pictures and memorabilia is hung everywhere. Food is out of this world. Highly recommend the Corned beef Sammy. Definitely a new favorite.

Great food, terrible service

By Charles L |

We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It seemed like nobody was interested in seating us for about 10 minutes, but we finally got a table once the hostess showed up. We started off with a salad and the potato leek soup. I had to as two different people for a spoon and it took 5 minutes to get one after the soup was delivered. It had cooled significantly by that time. No apology. We also had to wait a very long time for the salad and the tuna sandwich. Nobody ever stopped by to ask how things were. I also pain $5 for about 4oz of diet coke, and was never offered a refill, though they did take my glass away. All of the food was actually quite good. We were just highly disappointed in the service for the price we paid.

Memorable evening with a booth and delectable cocktails. Excellent service Sam

By art-scuba |

We had a booth at the back and it was loud but not blaring that we could not converse. We went after dinner so ordered only the cocktails. My favorite gingery sweet one was spell spoke (almost like sugarcane juice). Spiked hot chocolate is also good if you like the sweet drinks. The folks who enjoyed the non sweetened drinks also had a good time.with psycho killer, appletini etc. Overall good service and drinks. Waiting for the top floor to open for a more formal setting. Sam our waitress did a great job recommending the right drinks for us and gave us an extra shot of rounds at the end. We ended up getting a shot glass as well for memorabilia.

New York dead rabbit trip

By Escape03569036624 |

A great bar with old world charm with lovely Christmas decorations, food was excellent, also the Guinness, an Belfast ardoyne couple in a ardoyne owned bar.

Perfect spot for a pre-ferry trip home

By tms215 |

This place it tiny and LOUD. The tables are jammed together and it gets mobbed all hours. You have to have a reservation to get in. The food is very good and the service is on point. For NYC Visitors it is worth a visit. HOWEVER, unless you work down there or are taking the ferry to SI? It is wayyyyyyyyyyy to far downtown taking local subways that seem to stop every mile. If you fit the model commute Customer? A great watering hole to meet friends

One of the best bars in NYC

By Lella M |

One of the best bars in NYC. Cool atmosphere, fantastic signature cocktails, wonderful cuisine. I highly recommend it.

Decent lunch

By Ang G |

Came in for a drink and ended up having lunch too. We both chose from the small plates options - I had the smashed patty which came with fries (really nice), my husband had fried chicken and ordered a side of fries too. In hindsight he didn't really need to as neither of us could finish our fries. Pricewise the food is good value. The bar looks really good and service was excellent. It was quiet when we were in but I bet it has a good vibe in the evenings.

Small & Tourist but worth a drop by

By jellybean688 |

Place is small and has a good vibe, took shelter from the snow, few Eastside Oysters and a Tequila Piston cocktail set us on our way. Very touristy but def worth a pit stop. Cheers!

Very cosy, paneled, warm

By Willem K |

Very cosy. Loved this place; we had a lunch upstairs (me and my mum). Loved the ambiance, very friendly folks. Arrive early or you’ll be queueing.

Festive cocktails

By Nano |

Great festive cocktails. Very nice vibe. I was expecting more Christmas decorations as their jingle jangle thing was highly rated. There was a lot of nice decorations but it wasn’t OTT. The booking system was excellent

Not worth the hype

By 3812co |

Not worth the hype. Overpromised and did not deliver. Drinks are good, as they should be for the price. Food is awful, service is poor and disingenuous. Booked for a special occasion when visiting from Ireland. Had previously seen a lot of PR about it. The waitress we had did not seem to understand the idea of starter followed by a main as we got both together. Parts of meal such as stuffing and gravy were awful. I was honest in my feedback about the food and the MD did contact me with an apology, which was nice. I was offered some free merchandise but it never materialised (this appears to be the fault of the pr company, who just never bothered to reply on any follow-up). Hopefully the issues I raised will be looked into to improve someone else's experience. Good Luck with your future ventures.

2nd Best Irish Coffee Ever

By Shawnaaa! |

I was recommended this spot by a friend of mine who lives in Seattle (I live in San Francisco). He said it was a fun spot. Great ambiance, I agree. Food was well-portioned and tasty - we had the Irish breakfast and the chicken pot pie - yum. The highlight, though, is undoubtedly the Irish coffee! The bartender, Mario, said it would be the best we've ever had and it was certainly the most mind-blowing I'd had in a while. But, a certain speakeasy in Austin still holds #1 in our hearts (didn't want to tell that to his face, and it's been a year since we've been to Austin... need to travel back for a second opinion). The coffee and sugar are pre-mixed and in a hot water bath, where I usually see Irish coffees made with fresh coffee and sugar cubes. The cream was great, although some of the tastiest I've had has been mixed with a variety of liquors. The nutmeg on top is a great touch. Ah well. Who am I kidding - why be critical... My boyfriend sat there and drank 4 or 5 of these babies at $14 a pop!! Definitely come check them out.

Buzzing

What a fantastic bar this is. Food, service and drinks were great and the bar had a terrific atmosphere.

Excellent Service and Jameson selection

By Matt |

Thank you to the two ladies who served a couple from the UK on 27th December. Great selection of whiskeys and fantastic general chit chat. A great bar to visit.

Amazing ! Best cocktail experience !

By Eimear S |

We visited the The Dead Rabbit in December after I had read about it online. We went in to the bar but I asked the security on the door about the parlor, it was a busy night during the Christmas period and as I didn't book I didn't think I would have any luck. But we got a table upstairs in the cocktail bar and it was amazing. They started us off with a complimentary Jameson and Hibiscus shot in a tea cup and then explained the menu to us. We stayed for 3 drinks each. The staff are excellent, really friendly ! To finish the night we had complimentary Irish coffees. Will definitely back.

Quite an experience

By sakgeorge |

Me and my friends visited the "rabbit" during our last visit in NY. This place was sooo cool!!! Friendly staff, perfectly crafted cocktails, and great ambience. We loved the dark lights and the whole presentation of the concept. Really well spent evening. Definately recomend it when in NY. Cheers!

Great night with family

By DanLang2014 |

Fantastic experience at the Dead Rabbit. Make a reservation and go. Had my first Scotch Egg and it was delicious. Our group had a number of drinks and really enjoyed them all. Our waitress ( wish I could remember her name) was outstanding and I’ll define back when I return to NYC.

Incredible atmosphere

By Adamsl184 |

Popped in for shelter from the rain, ended up staying the afternoon, literally only left due to reservations elsewhere. All staff very friendly however Annie went above and beyond, recommending drinks to warm us up and helping us to get reservations in a beautiful steak restaurant closer to our hotel the next evening. After chatting for a while it turned out we had mutuals back in Belfast, absolutely mind blowing Massively regret not having enough time to go back again. 10/10 from us, even left with a Guinness pump as a souvenir

Great atmosphere and food - loved the cosy booths

By Maeve0804 |

A group of 9 kids, teens adults spent a few enjoyable hours in this cosy pub. We all had food which was delicious - the chicken curry was particularly good. Service was friendly and efficient. Really enjoyed our visit!

Real Irish atmosphere

By Simona70 |

Nice and cozy atmosphere, in real Irish style Wide selection of spirits, bears (ça va sans dire) and typical Irish meals Good food and nice service

Just all right for me a bit pricey

By spursfankent |

Its a bar that has a good interior with quirky decor with all the dollar bills fixed to the wall but the price of drinks is high compared to other Irish Bars. I had a cocktail for $20 and a glass of red was $18 without tip or tax so didn't hang around when there are bars such as Rudy's and other dive bars in LES and elsewhere cheaper and doing happy hours also that are much cheaper. Ticked it off my list but wont go back.

Amazing cocktails and the famous Irish Coffee

By Sudipto65 |

This 2 story bar in the Financial district is a place to go if you like cocktails - but better reserve a place as even on a workday, it was always packed to capacity. Its Irish Coffee is legendary and we tried it - simply the best one we have ever had. But its other cocktails were equally good - potent, tasty and gives you a kick. Service was also spot on and the ambience, exciting. Must go if you are in NYC

Great Irish bar

By Tanya B |

Heard they were celebrating 10 years in business so nipped in as we were sightseeing at the Seaport.. so glad we did as the cocktails, food, staff were all on point and we had a great afternoon here.. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the city..Bowling Green metro is nearby if coming by subway as are the local buses from midtown.. Near Wall Street too .. A great find :-)

Superb purist pub with amazing Irish coffee

By agnes9971 |

Superb Irish pub with excellent cocktails and food and of course the best Irish coffee in the world. Frozen is also offered. Place is out of the way and usually packed but I recommend that you must visit.

Proper Irish Pub in NYC 🍻🍺

By indiana_solo88 |

Great vibe in this classy place. Guinness was the best I had in a while - incredibly creamy and tasty. Only stayed for half an hour but could have been in there all day. Bet they have wild parties too!

Great little Irish pub downtown

By Marky9909 |

We were told about this place by a waiter in Chelsea, so after a trip to see the Statue of Liberty, we thought we'd stop in for a bite to eat. The first impression of this establishment is very pleasing, it has a very cozy feel to it, like a good neighbourhood pub that you'd frequent if it was close to home. The service was prompt and friendly and the fish and chips were excellent, as you'd expect from an Irish pub. It wasn't too busy when we stopped in, but I have been told that it can really get hopping in the evenings. We happened to be sitting next to some nice Irish women, one of whom was the owner's aunt. She had made a point to stop in before her flight back home. Speaks well of the place. Overall we had a great lunch and I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Mind the Saw Dust!

By M T |

Rubbish!! Told off for moving a couple of bar seats from one area, then squashed into table area too small for our group. Friend took reaction to the saw dust and couldn't stop coughing, didn't even stay for drink, we had to leave. Not pleasant visit!

Great bar

By Sue S |

Great location near to Staton island ferry. Great attentive and welcoming staff, nice Guinness and the sausage roll was great.

Fun place with great drinks

By Context |

Place was packed on a Sunday afternoon. Had to prove we had a reservation before being allowed in. Sat upstairs. Fun environment with creative and tasty cocktails.

Found this great spot

By LonnaLinda |

Just walking around and found this great bar/restaurant. Love the interior. Went inside and the nice gentleman gave me a brief tour (3 areas to explore). Crowded at 2PM; found a spot and the bartender recommended the Humble Pie cocktail. Like an old fashioned cocktail but much better. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Imagine the taste!

By Tripper |

We visited on Friday 13th March; initially in the downstairs “tap room” and had both beers and Irish coffees. All the staff behind the bar were amazing. Gave great recommendations and were great craic! We then went upstairs to the cocktail bar. The two waiting staff in hand (one lady + one man) were brilliant. They helped us dissect the menu and pick out the most UNBELIEVABLE cocktails 🔥 Shane behind the bar was amazing! Couldn’t recommend enough! Make sure you visit!!!

Loved the atmosphere, food and drinks!

By kpslas |

We happened upon The Dead Rabbit by chance on a recent Saturday while looking for a place to have lunch. From the moment we walked in we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. From the friendly staff to the cocktails to the food, everything was very good. Would absolutely stop here again if in the area.

Lively Irish Pub Near the Financial District in Lower Manhattan

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

On a quiet Saturday afternoon in Lower Manhattan, we stepped into The Dead Rabbit and found a lively atmosphere in this cozy Irish pub. It's a popular place for both tourists and those who work in this part of the city. The interior was beautiful, and the place had a lot of character even though the bar only dates back to 2013. The Guiness on tap was excellent. We didn't try any food but hopefully will come back here again on our next trip to NYC.

Great Irish Pub.

By Mbrookslxa |

I am traveling on business and always look for a pub for dinner. The Dead Rabbit was great! My bar tender was attentive and quick. I only had a cheeseburger and a few beers but loved the atmosphere and friendly staff.

Excellent pub to discover

By Ximista91 |

This is a real and authentic Irish pub, the interior is definitely worth the detour, we were also pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food….ideal for a lunch in this area

Irish Pub worth visiting

By StevieRL |

Spent a wonderful evening in this friendly pub. They have a fantastic selection of beers on tap and whiskeys of various prices. Will be going back for more during our NYC visit!

Very busy bar, great bartenders

By Sam_Beech |

What more can I say? Great atmosphere and cocktails, beautifully crafted. Very busy but we got a seat at the bar in only a few minutes whilst we were watching our drinks being made. We didn’t eat there but we saw several people having small plates as well as some having full meals - looked tasty. Quite expensive but then you pay for what you get and for the location.

Very Christmassy

By CHRIS M |

The atmosphere was amazing for Christmas. Very well decorated and the drinks were very good. The layout is kind of neat as there are basically like four totally different bars inside. It was super crowded and there isn’t really much space for seating. I would recommend stopping in for a drink or two but not trying to eat or grab a seat during the holiday season especially on weekends.

Awfully disappointing

By CocktailFyre |

A deliberate visit with a group of friends to one of the "world's 50 best bars". Absolute tripe. A number of our group have traveled to visit bars on this list, and this is by far the worst, and by our reckoning not worthy of this title. The cocktails were of a quality that you'd expect in a small town bar with a wannabe mixologist; lacking in flavour, untarnished. The "Doctor Strange" taste like the inside of my hiking boots smell. Service was slow. It was busy, but show me a bar within 50km that isn't! Music was far too loud. Barman was arrogant and unnecessarily rude. This bar should stop advertising itself as the best in the world if it can no longer deliver (if it ever could).

great irish bar - if you are in the area you have to go

By happywonderer17 |

we stopped in past here whilst exploring the financial district, statue of liberty, 9/11 etc was just going to be for a drink, but the atmosphere was amazing, always full, great vibe, wife loved her cocktail so I had another Guinness then we ordered some food and just wow.. couple more drinks...! just loved it.

Great cocktails in cozy speakeasy

By CocktailbarGuiden |

🇬🇧 Located in the Financial District of Manhattan, oddly enough, there’s an Irish Pub with excellent Irish coffee named The Dead Rabbit. If you’re allowed up the stairs though, you’ll find the Parlor that was named the best bar in the world in 2016. The mood is intimate, as if you’d been invited to a british members only club. A complimentary welcome cocktail sets the mood and the friendly bartenders gladly gives you good advice. Naturally they nailed our benchmark cocktail. Half the menu is inspired by Ireland (whiskey and gin), we tried the Walk in the Woods with stinging nettle and honeysuckle, which had a bite but also with freshness. Very nice. The other half is ”elsewhere” where the Velvet Underground, with calvados, banana, walnut and soy(!) blew us away. Recommended! We’ve never been disappointed at the Dead Rabbit, but we do miss the old comic book menu. 🥃😍

My favourite bar in New York

By JulesRossellat |

During my last trip to New York, I did a lot of the city's cocktail bars and this one stood up as the best one. I went there twice. One night in the main area with already great drinks. The next night was spent in the Parlor and there the cocktails were simply perfect. There is a really high level of mixology and the bartenders are really skilled. My friends and I tasted the entire menu and had a great time! The whole staff were very friendly both times. My only regret is that I did not get to eat there because the food looks delicious. I definitely recommend The Dead Rabbit to anyone visiting New York or even living there! But make sure to plan because it gets very busy.

Amazing

By Sammigirl78 |

literally the hidden gem it claims to be. full of life, atmosphere, music, food! Couldn't have had a better time. I love it here. A place for true irish people!

The Dead Rabbit Water Street NYC

Oh my god! You seriously have to visit this amazing beautiful quirky and utterly fabulous pub if you are in New York, Ground floor is sawdust floors and all about the beer, 2nd floor is for cocktails and just wow! From the welcome- we were invited to walk round go have a look, then taken upstairs to our seats where we enjoyed fantastic courtesy, service, cocktails and food. The truffle fries….. my god - they are to die for 10/10 for everything chaps, from the welcome to the ta ta . Dead Rabbit 🐇 you ARE the best, Thankyou.

100% worth a visit

Great to visit The Dead Rabbit 2 years after my original visit. Still a great vibe, lovely food. 100% worth a visit! The pies and sticky toffee pudding are a must!

Old Irish Dockers Vibe

By O Byrne |

Great old Irish dockers vibe, atmosphere and clientele. Food ok. Enjoyed visiting a few times when visiting my daughter from Dublin who’s studying in NY. Staff nice & approachable barr one young female bartender, long blond hair, extremely rude and brash.

The best bangers and mash I’ve ever had, even in England! From and English person I was apprehensive but this was the BEST dish I have ever had! I cannot recommend this place enough. Not all it’s cracked up to be

By Martin a |

My wife and I visited the dead rabbit on our recent trip to NYC. I stumbled across it online, not previously known about it. I booked a table at the Taproom area of the restaurant. We arrived 10 mins before our time but the table wasn’t ready. We waited in the very busy bar for 5 mins then we were taken to our table. The table was right next to the engraver of the washrooms. People using the bathroom we’re passing in very close proximity to us. My wife found this very uncomfortable. The place was packed so there was no way we could of moved to another table. The food.. oh dear. This is what disappointed the most. It was below average to say the least. My wife ordered fish and chips, I ordered the house burger. They both came out in record time and could not of been made fresh. Plus the house burger was supposed to be served in a seeded bun, but it wasn’t. It was served in a normal bun. I was going to say something but noticed other burgers being served with the same buns. At $24 this burger was not good value for money. Yes there was a great atmosphere in the bar area with the live music but the food was a real let down.

Great Corned Beef

By Purpleellie04 |

We ended up here because I was looking for a New York corned beef sandwich. The deli was too far away at that point in our day. We had a great corned beef sandwich, appetizers and drinks. The atmosphere is rustic. Very cool. Very busy but we did not feel rushed.

Ok

By Sarah R |

That's it, it was OK, food was fine but overpriced and the place itself was like a 1000 pubs in Ireland, so no differnce for us. Was there at 8 on a Friday night, was extremely busy and noisy, but a good atmosphere. Could see why the American's like it, quite themey.

Friendly vibe

By 977mike |

Very friendly spot would most definitely recommend if in the vicinity though not particularly worth a detour

Quaint, relaxing experience

By VacationeerUSA |

Outstanding pub atmosphere that was enjoyable and relaxing, staff was courteous, service was friendly and unrushed, there was calm live music & song, and a plethora of bar drinks from which to choose. (The Irish Coffees were tasty and comforting.) The “small plates” were great - we devoured sliders, fried chicken, burgers, Scottish eggs. Unfortunately, the fish & chips main dish was only fair, very bland but very properly cooked; the fries were quite basic. Bathrooms very clean, though a bit dark. The biggest and only real downside is that prices seem high, and for some dishes the value and price don’t match up. Great location around the corner from the world famous Fraunces Tavern and within a five minute walk to Wall Street, Trinity Church, Battery Park, Bowling Green, and the ferries at Pier 11 and the Governors Island & Staten Island ferries. Highly recommend to try this pub / restaurant at least once. This visit was our first, and we plan on returning.

Barstaff overcharge and rob you !

By Robert B |

What a rip off !! We sat at the bar and ordered. 3 x vodka red bull, 1 x gin, 1 x $20 cocktail and $40 of snacks. Our total bill came to $158 !! That’s around $25 per gin/vodka. We’ve been coming to the city for over 15 years and have never been charged such a ridiculous amount ! You should avoid this robbing place at all costs

Best Irish coffee that you’ll find

By Dylan |

We were staying around the corner on South William Street and came across the Dead Rabbit when walking back from South Ferry. It was raining heavily so we went in to get out of the rain and get an Irish coffee. The Irish coffee was easily the best one I have ever had. We came back again the next evening and the doorman remembered us and got us a seat upstairs at the cocktail bar, which was also very nice. The staff are friendly, professional and also very attentive without being overbearing. It’s not a traditional Irish pub, it’s more like if a traditional Irish pub and a Dublin 7 coffee shop had a child together; and to be honest it works perfectly. The only downside is the pricing which is pretty high; however at the end of the day the bar is in Manhattan’s financial district so it’s to be expected. Despite the high prices I would say it’s well worth it and I’ll be back again next time I’m in New York. Also, they do frozen Irish coffee which sounds utterly bizarre to an Irish person, but my god was it good.

Dead Rabbit and Lady Liberty

By Greg B |

Friends from France were visiting - my wife and I were their local "tour guides." Dead Rabbit is one of my wife's favorite NYC bars so, of course, it was a 'must-see' and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is unique and the drinks are excellent. Our friends absolutely enjoyed the entire experience. A special shout-out to Izzy and Shane (I hope I spelled that correctly). Izzy and I chatted about cocktails etc and she pointed me in the right direction. Shane's cocktail's were outstanding! Well worth the trip down to the tip of the island to see Lady Liberty and the Dead Rabbit.

Pretty much average

People seem rather enamored with this place, but I personally didn't find it that great. It's wirth a visit, but not exactly something to go out of your way for.

Best Guinness outside of Ireland

By Saoirse M |

The Dead Rabbit is a beautiful love letter to Ireland, with a special mention to the north. Visited here for lunch with my bf and loved the place. As two Irish people that live abroad, it was lovely to see such a modern, but traditional Irish pub. The food was sensational and the pints of Guinness were the best we’d had outside of Ireland. The music was sensational and the service was great. The prices aren’t cheap, but it’s award winning and in NYC, so that’s to be expected. Most of all, it was so lovely to see an Irish pub representing Belfast and the north with beautiful, modern artwork on the walls. Couldn’t recommend more.

Best pub yet...

From the cozy two room bar, to the sawdust on the floor - this was the best pub we visited this trip. The food was great and very reasonably priced. I had a mix of Irish breads and my husband had truffle fries. They had a nice variety of beer on tap and a dry cider that I quite enjoyed. I'm so looking forward to going back again next year!

Over hyped

I had sought out going to the Dead Rabbit as the owners were from Belfast like me and I thought this would be the first opportunity to sample something like home and not turned into an American paradox of what they suspect irish bars are like. After all it won best bar in the world? Given the Fire i wanted to support home grown business like that also. Now i cannot speak for pre their fire but I hope it was a better experience than now. Unfriendly bouncer on the door, packed to rafters but had booked so got the table quickly. Seemed very busy which is good but that seemed to lead to very very long wait times. We waited over 45 mins to order food and staff kept just passing quickly to avoid being caught to order. The interior had nice touches of Ireland and Northern Ireland especially which was charming and nice. The seating is somewhat traditional irish bar also. The food was not fantastic, definitely an American imaging of irish food not proper irish versions. The best thing was I tried a cocktail which was truly disgusting, and it is rear that i would say that. Cant remember name something like "wheel grease" or similar. I told the waitress it was not nice and she swapped for another on menu for free. So my key points in summary: 1) I did get treated well re drink swap 2) Decor is nice 3) Would never eat there again 4) Not as authentic as things would have previously been made out to be
