Great decor & atmosphere; Food is very good, but not outstanding.

By Beth Moore |

I had heard good things about The Dutch and tried it out for lunch this week. I sat at the bar and ordered the famed fried chicken and biscuits ($32) and a fresh juice. The juice was pre-made, but tasty. The chicken came out really fast (less than 10 minutes). It was piping hot, crispy, and very juicy. However, it just didn't have any flavor. It was as if they used zero seasoning - not even salt! It just had a plain chicken flavor. The two accompanying biscuitsIt were flakey and great - topped with honey. Overall the dish was pretty good, but they could knock it out of the park if they seasoned the chicken or even the flour/batter... and I expect that for $32! I'd like to go back and try their burger. Cool spot.

Fantastic food

We had a fantastic dinner here - a group of 4 all our dishes were excellent with great flavours. The restaurant got noisy (so nearly deducted a mark for that) but other than that it was great. The salads to start were really good and my scallops were excellent. The desserts were also great (we ordered one each for the 4 of us) - none were disappointing with perhaps the French Toast the best. I hope to come back if I can afford it!

Warm and cozy!

Enjoyed a great lunch - service was excellent and food was delicious! Oysters were delectable and served with all the right companion sauces, including fresh horseradish - yum! Lots of cocktail choices with interesting mixes and a short but serviceable list of wine by the glass. A bit noisy in the back room....

Awesome little place on Prince!

Their burger is amazing!!!! I haven't tried anything else but their burger everytime I went there. Nice, cute, small spot that isn't a tourist trap!

Good Dinner Spot for Small Groups

By EVArcht |

My wife and I met another couple at the Dutch to celebrate a birthday and a wedding anniversary. It was a warm spring evening, so they had the corner windows wide open and there was a nice, energetic buzz about the restaurant. Being in the 40+ crowd, I can't tolerate super noisy restaurants/bars anymore. I'd say The Dutch has just the right balance. The bar area seemed to draw a slightly younger (and louder) crowd, but the restaurant (which is divided into 2 separate spaces) had a mix of 30-50 year olds in groups of 2's and 4's having a great night out. The two dining rooms have different decor...the front one being more open with tall ceilings and painted brick walls and the back dining area with a more pub-like vibe (where we ate). They had a nice cocktail/wine list, (I had the spicy Hot Tin Roof) and we ordered a bevy of appetizers including oysters, the citrus avocado salad, burrata, kanpachi and steak tartare, all of which were delicious. The oysters were super fresh and on point. Our waiter was really laid back but knowledgeable about the different species of oysters and which dishes we might prefer over another. Service was efficient and the food kept coming on without a wait. For main courses, I had the fried chicken, which The Dutch is known for. Having moved to NYC from the South, I'm picky about fried chicken, but it was very crispy and seasoned well, and the honey biscuit on the side was delicious! The rest of the table got the lamb, the ravioli and the Grilled Snapper....I tried all of them and they were great (especially the salsa verde sauce for the snapper). So the food gets a definite thumbs up. The night we stopped for dinner, it was hopping and our friends were stuck in traffic and about 20 minutes late (past our reservation) but the hostess was super nice about it and when our friends arrived, we were shown promptly to our table. My only negative comment would be that it is a bit on the pricey side. Given the sort of downtown gastro pub vibe of The Dutch, I was expecting more moderate price points for the appetizers and main dishes. The final bill was more fitting to a more upscale restaurant. So if you go, expect to put a little damage on the credit card. But overall, we enjoyed dinner at The Dutch and I would recommend it as a great place to meet up for dinner and drinks with friends.

nice ambiance

when for a lunch with colleagues. The restaurant has maintain its high quality. The portions are generous. everything is very fresh. Take in to consideration that it is a bit pricey for afternoon lunch with colleagues.

Sometimes Heaven, Sometimes Hell.....

Have been here multiple times during multiple dayparts. If you can get a table, it can be a nice place to eat in a very cool neighborhood. Good food, good service, good peopewatching. However, if you can't get a table or you have to wait for any appreciable time in the bar, the crowding and noise levels can be enough to drive you out of your tree.

Good place to grab a bite in Soho

By tojopop |

Busy and noisy yes. But the food is good. The staff very nice. Grab a table, a booth or eat at the bar. The old time feel of the place is comfy to tuck into. A decent range of choices too- from salad to steak and the chocolate mint ice box cake was dreamy. The bar is famous for its mixing and its whiskies. It is a very busy place and I have found it best at off times to avoid the clamor of the throngs that hang out. Reservations recommended during peak feeding frenzies.

Mediocre food for high price

By Coco4loco |

The atmosphere in The Dutch is good and the service is fine. The food we had was very expensive and of low quality and bad taste. The chicken was dry and the trout was tasteless (we could only taste the bacon). The vegetables all came with a sauce that clearly came from a bottle. Veggies and meats/fish were carelessly placed on the plates. We paid over $300 for two starters and five main courses of us and only had water to drink.

Decent lively place for drinks and dinner

By William L |

Lively place with great cocktails. Decent food - starters were excellent, mains were either a bit over the top or a bit bland but worth going for the starters alone

Over-Priced, Mixed Quality

By DktrO |

Started with Little Oyster Sandwiches, essentially fried oyster sliders. Difficult to taste the oyster in the sandwich. The Shrimp Louie had super jumbo shrimp with a delicious "Louie" crab sauce to dip in to ($24). The Diver Scallops were raw, and while we all enjoy sushi, rare meat, raw oysters, the raw scallops were not appreciated. I had the Black Bass ($38) and have had much better in my small home town restaurant for far less cost. Very unimpressed with flavor and texture. My dinner companion had the Lamb Chops($42) and it was perfectly cooked medium-rare and very tasty. Service was fine, with a nice atmosphere. This was a Sunday night early dinner and it was full.

Just perfect

By Marco de Boer |

I am very selective in eating out. If it tastes worse than home I'm disappointed. And yes, I'm a bit of a foodie. The Dutch ticked all the boxes. Spotless service, inspiring menu, great atmosphere and above all fantastic flavours. I want to thank the team for this evening and making the experience just perfect.

Great cocktails, really good comfort food, trendy, and *pricey*.

By dieswaytoofast |

The cocktails are great - really. They change with the times, and the quality is usually very very high. So yeah, worth it for the cocktails. The food is "new american comfort food", but hipster-y, basically with a twist in one form or the other. So, you'll get stellar steak, with kimchee-fried rice, or grilled halibut with rice noodles served bun-cha style, or fried-chicken korean-style - you get the point. The place is very much a "see and be seen" kinda joint, where all the beautiful people go. That said, there is no snobbishness, they're always friendly, and happy to see you there. The only downside - the prices are up there. If it was around 20% less expensive, I'd be there all the time...

Nice Place

A smooth and great place to have our dinner with their good food and brilliant service especially their fresh quality seafoods.

Great food and atmosphere

By MrB003 |

The three of us dined here on a very cold winter night. One of us ordered a champlain campaigncocktail- kind of like an old fashion: had a nice spicy zing. For starters we ordered eggplant dip and the beet salad. Very tasty, especially the crackers for the dip. For the main we ordered the fried chicken and skillet chicken (go figure). The fried chicken had a great crust and moist inside. The hot biscuits and slaw were really filling. The skillet chicken was also good. The desserts were quite unique: rice pudding and vietnamese coffee cake w/ big cup of hot coffee. Service was great and atmosphere was warm and cozy. A very fun and filling night.

Solid stand-by

By pillowsofwanderlust |

Whenever I think about eating in SoHo, this is one of the first places I think of, and has been a solid stand-by for me for years. I've never been here for brunch, just lunch and supper, and sometimes for Restaurant Week. I've always been seated in the front dining room where windows face the street on 2 sides. This time I visited after the theatre for a 9:30pm supper. The place less than a quarter full, with most tables well into their meals. I started with a refreshing Summer Crusher cocktail, then figs on sunflower toast with sheep's milk cheese. The Dutch is known for their fried chicken, which I've had before. This time I tried the roasted chicken served over sugar snap peas and carrots with sorrel. Incredibly moist. Dessert was shaved ice with berries, matcha, lemon verbena, crisped rice crunchies and mochi bits. Very unique. Service was great. Be careful going to the restrooms downstairs, as the stairs are not well lit and painted black to boot. Until next time.

Scrumptious in SOHO

By chriscaseyatl |

VERY neighborhood-y place in SOHO. Cool, casual, and delicious for brunch. Although we skipped oysters (part of what The Dutch is known for), opted instead for smoked salmon, caviar and bagel, with the most delicious soft-scramble I've had in a while. Chatting with cool couple at next table just made us feel like a local. Service was polite and prompt.

Better for a Drink than a meal

By BlondieandTiggersdad |

Very basic, sort of a chain menu feel (the owners own multiple different restaurants - all the same). Fun for a cocktail or glass of wine - conveniently located walkable to my home in Tribeca. Been here multiple times, only eaten once though.

Late night dinner

By James11111S |

Went there for a late dinner without reservation on a Friday night and of course we waited. That’s not the problem, the problem was more the server who wanted to go home after a busy night. The server just did the minimum! Just take the order and that’s it. The wine guy was, i guess, gone because no one came to the table. The food was ok, nothing really special. Will not go back!

Lively place, great food

By Anne K |

The Dutch is offering a friendly and lively ambiance with a large variety of dishes. Food is perfectly cooked and portions are large, think twice before ordering starters as you might not be able to fully enjoy main courses ;-) Perfect place to have dinner with friends or your partner (except if you are looking for a quiet place) Highly recommended

Loved, loved, loved the Dutch!

By Brian P |

I’ve been wanting to eat here for the longest time and it was definitely worth the wait! Such a lovely, warm & cozy Soho hotspot. We had a 7pm reservation on a Friday evening and to no surprise they were already busy. My husband & I had a cute table in the back dining room, in the corner, by the fireplace and it was perfect. The staff was great from the friendly hostesses, the waitstaff, & even the manager who gave us 2 cupcakes at the end of our meal. Our drinks were superb & our apps & dinner were delicious! I would HIGHLY recommend eating here! Definitely won’t disappoint!!!

Great for brunch, lunch or casual dinner

By DM2SB |

The Dutch is a great quaint restaurant in the heart of Soho. It is great for brunch, lunch or casual dinner. The menu never disappoints with favorites such as the friend chicken, seafood or appetizer and cocktail menu. Low key vibe. Must try.

Highly recommend

By Justin S |

This restaurant has it all. Great food, great drinks, service was as good as anywhere in NYC, and the atmosphere was excellent too. A bit pricey, but you don’t get this quality for nothing. Would return regularly if we lived in NYC.

Just fine, nothing special

By HAV847 |

Nice neighborhood spot. Excessive noise made conversation nearly impossible. Decent food and drinks. Standard fare. Won't be running back anytime soon, as there are a lot more creative places around. But for drinks after work, this is a good place to go.

Lively Place

By GlobetrotterDK1967 |

The place is very lively and look live it is a place for people in the neighborhood. Food is great but chairs not to comfy but will support you during a quick dinner.

Classic bar/restaurant with warm service and great food in SoHo

By Eric N |

Dropped in during a business trip for a quick bite at the bar. As a non-drinker I've found that I sometimes get mediocre service when eating at the bar, especially in East Coast cities. Very much not the case at The Dutch, service was great and the Hot Fried Chicken from the menu was outstanding. New York prices of course but a solid choice.

Expensive and smallish lunch salad

By PedaloMKM2015 |

Had an early lunch when sightseeing in the neighbourhood. Salad was ok, but considering the size and ingredients of the portion it was overpriced, salad wasn't THAT good. Nice and quiet place to have a break anyway, more people coming in for lunch from 11.30 am or so.

Nice place, location and food!

By CTPreview |

Aesthetically pleasing, both location and decor. It’s a place that draws you in and then treats you right. Go there and enjoy. Well worth it.

Pleasant Sunday Brunch

By tavg |

A friend and I enjoyed a nice, long brunch at The Dutch. Service was attentive and the best (and surprising) part is they "let us be" long after we finished our food. (In my experience in NYC, many restaurants bring you the bill as soon as you're done eating, hinting that you're to leave quickly.) We ordered several rounds of drinks, and our table was a little secluded, so maybe that explains why they let us stay for so long - whatever the reason, we enjoyed it! I had their poached eggs with smoked ham and several Bellinis and both were very good!

Cool ambiance, not worth the $$$

By Matt O |

We went with family and friends to catch up and enjoy a meal. The setting is cool, but the service wasn’t that friendly. While the food was good, it was pretty pricey ($32 for fried chicken). I might go back for a cocktail at the bar, but nothing more.

Intimate, friendly place with AWESOME food

By Dominique B |

Dinner last night at the Dutch was terrific. Try the Wild Halibut Cha ca with turmeric, dill, rice noodles and peanuts. Sound like an odd combination, right? But it was stellar. My husband enjoyed a snapper with salsa verde. The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to be accommodating, helpful, and welcoming.

Excellent food and service.

By Svetlan |

I love Soho and The Dutch is a great place for getting the sense of the area. The food is marvellous and the friendly staff are always keen to recommend the optimal combo of food and beverage. Highly recommended!

Lovely place, but quite expensive

By dayaya |

It's a very nice place. We went there for some drinks during one evening, while it was snowing heavily. It was just lovely to enjoy a glass on wine or a coffee while admiring the snow fall outside. The apple pie was amazing. It is however quite expensive.

Lived up to the billing

By Barry P |

We'd heard good things about The Dutch and it didn't disappoint. Great food, great atmosphere and fantastic service - and I can definitely recommend the restaurant's signature 'fried chicken, biscuits and coleslaw'.

Great dinner and drinks

By victoriaann77 |

The atmosphere is great for drinks and dinner after work. It's open late, so you can hang out for hours. The fried chicken is fantastic!

Great brunch unless you must have potatoes

By jpr21 |

First off, forget that you're going to pay 20-30 bucks for an omelette or eggs' benedict. It's New York. Deal with it. That being said, great atmosphere, fine service, tasty food presented beautifully-and quickly. Our only complaints is that you have to pay extra for potatoes, with seems vaguely un-American. Oh, that's right-it's the Dutch...

Delicious

By CRB42 |

Took my daughters here for brunch! Stumptown coffee was fantastic and everything we ordered was delicious! Please order the honey biscuits...so good! Make reservation or sit at the bar.

Neighbourhood gem with great ambiance and comfort food

By Harbourview482 |

My sister and I had dinner during a trip to New York and after an afternoon of shopping in SoHo. We were looking for a neighborhood bistro that had a New York vibe... the Dutch was perfect. The atmosphere is lively but not so loud that we couldn't enjoy great conversation. The crowd is youthful and stylish. The food is a combination of seafood and comfort food with a New England undertone. We started with the Calamari - which was great but very spicy. We both had chicken dishes. The fried chicken was unique and delicious. My dish came with a cheese fondue side which I found to be a little heavy. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant has a nice bar and windows around two sides with great lighting. We loved it and will definitely come back again.

One of my favourites, anytime

By TJF1976 |

The third time I’ve been to The Dutch on consecutive visits. This time a Sunday dinner with work friends. Service is great, the menu has something for everyone, what arrives is fresh and tasty, and there’s a good selection of any kind of drinks you’d care for. The burger is amazing. The buttermilk chicken a must.

Very good

By RANDALL D |

Very good vibe, excellent food, easy to het to from all of lower Manhattan, attentive service. Oysters were terrific but the menu was full of goodies. Interesting wine options too.

Overpriced Soho Restaurant

By SoMuchAloha |

This is my second time at The Dutch. I remembered not loving the food before and went back again recently to give it a second chance. 1. Service- Excellent. Friendly waitstaff, professional. 2. Food- JUST OK. Portions are small, prices are HIGH. Pasta was undercooked. 3. Atmosphere- Crowded tables touching each other. You can find much better in NYC.

Great brunch spot in SoHo

By Paul M |

Visited The Dutch in my first full weekend in New York. A great recommendation for a cold, rainy day! Excellent food, I had the breakfast sandwich, really good! Great vibe and you don't feel rushed. Definitely worth a visit and then followed by a walk around SoHo!

Vibrant and fun

By Rula A |

Love this American style bistro. The lace had a great vibe and much bigger than it looks. Food was excellent. Shared appetizers and each had a main course. The fried chicken was amazing as was the veal. Place was fun but very loud so expect to shout. Not great for a first date but great for a small group.

Good food and drinks

By Kristie S |

We walked from our hotel to the Dutch - good food and drinks. I ordered the snapper and received a large piece of fish, with good sauce and some grilled peppers - it was very good. Entrees are al a cart and there were limited sides to choose from. The oysters were outstanding. I recommend the raw oysters. Dining room is small and a tad bit loud (due to adjoining bar with young professionals enjoying a few cocktails - nothing obnoxious). I recommend for some good, “clean”, whole foods (nothing was fried or process, everything seemed fresh and prepared on site)!

Great food, great atmosphere, great service

By EGSolomon1968 |

Title says it all, what more could be said. OK, my wife generally does not eat fried chicken, but on recommendation by our waitress, tried it and loved it. My T-bone steak, at $66 it had to be good....I would have paid more, it was perfect. Service was beyond question, the best we have had so far in New York, waitress was more than happy to advise and made us feel more at home than in a restaurant. If we have a chance this trip, or in the future, we will be back.

Great table & the mussels!

By SelinaYoung |

Recommended by a friend we thought we’d check out this restaurant. Thought it would be too hipster for me but forgot that after slurping back my first Widows Hole NY oyster. YUM!! Bacon wrapped trout & veal schnitzel were also delicious. Roasted broccoli with garlic and spices sauce was a perfect side. We also had a great table tucked in the corner. Will definitely return.

Awesome Seafood

By JASAlex321 |

We shared the seafood appetizer platter amongst 5 of us. Great selection of shell fish. More clams, please. Then salad, pasta, lobster roll, calamari. It was all wonderful. Service was good and helpful. Smile more.

Cramped space

By patricksy |

My cousin brought me here with my friends and told me food is good. Yes food is good. The steak was just ok. The only problem I got was we were 5 but seated in a good for 4 couch. How can you enjoy the food if you’re cramped like sardines.

Great atmosphere

By norphano |

Stopped in here during happy hour for a drink and it was packed. Great atmosphere and seems like a real hot spot. Definitely intrigued to go back.

Go Dutch

By Kevin M |

A great evening with friends brought us to this SoHo treasure. Unassuming in appearance but it stops there. Fun cocktails or make your own. You gotta love those huge chiseled ice cubes! Dig oysters...well, The Dutch delivers. Want to pass on that delicacy, check out the sticky pork ribs or the American burrata. Both finger licking good. Our group tried the veal schnitzel, skillet-roasted chicken, and fried chicken. All meals were delicious. We ate so well that we couldn’t even consider dessert. Great place to get together with old friends. No one is staring you down to get you to move on out.

I Love this Place!

By justindeans |

My second visit in two years. First went in 2016, found it on trip advisor when I was staying in Soho on vacation and loved it. Back in NYC two years later and made a return visit and it was just as good as I remembered, wish it was in my home town as I’d be a regular! Great all round menu. Had Jerk Lamb Cutlets with Rotti, pickled vegetables and braised lamb neck. Outstanding, so tasty. Great seafood to start and excellent sweet potato pie for dessert. Good wine list. Can’t recommend highly enough!

The best corn bread

By aroundtheclockfoodie |

A cool Bistro with a great drinks list, the sevice at this establishment was on point, allowing a sample of the whisky before purchasing a dram. We ordered a summer crusher cocktail and were sipping away, only to be informed the wrong cocktail was delivered. This turned out to be a blessing as this mystery cocktail we enjoyed more than the actual summer crusher, that was also provided to make up for the error. Having eaten prior to visiting, we ordered a beef tartare to share, a very good version of this dish and we were also impressed with the house made bread, the jalepeno corn bread was the bomb!

Awesome Burgers

By Gabor K |

Overall an awesome experience. Got there at the right time, and got seated quick probably because we had a reservation. Pretty classy and entertaining joint with a good overall mood. Had their trio donuts after the burger. The burger was mint, however the donuts were even better. Presentation was grand and the drinks were awesome.

Nice Place to Celebrate a Birthday

By Hexsign |

The Dutch has a lovely atmosphere. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. They gave us a cozy table and a sparkler with the dessert. They even took a little Polaroid of the birthday girl. However, I ordered the salmon, and it was the thinnest piece of that fish that I’ve ever seen. It came with vegetables on top and some were cold. But the chocolate hazelnut dessert was out of this world.

Great stop while you are shopping for lunch

By Ron M |

stopped here for lunch while I was down in Soho. I sat at the regular bar, as opposed to the seafood bar. It was casual and comfortable. The food was good, but the person next to me got a burger that is not on the menu that was huge and looked delicious. Most people were having brunch and it looked really nice. I would certainly recommend it when in the area.

New Years Eve

By Skiingk |

We dined here over new years and were treated like kings. They had decorations for all of us. Customised menus with our names on them. Privacy. It was a great location and is an extremely popular restaurant in the area. Has upstairs and downstairs and all in between. Great bar scene as well. We were very fortunate to get a booking here. Staff were wonderful and smiling and as we left to jump in our cars, the snow was falling...a wonderful NYC experience. Will definitely come back. Solid venue.

Mixed Emotions

By SSI Traveler |

I have mixed emotions on this rating. PRO Solid menu with something for everyone, great SOHO feel, friendly efficient service and really great fried green tomato’s. CON Didn’t have a table for our reservation and waited 30 minutes, overly crowded bar area, too many tables in small dining space and so noisy you couldn’t hear your tables conversation. Funny, I’d go back because of the “vibe” in spite of the con’s!

Good, pricey, noisey.

By DT808 |

Thought the food was good/okay and pricey. The fried chicken was just okay, nothing special. So was the sea bass. The restaurant seating was tight and very noisy. While i liked however were the desserts. The cinnamon ice creams was novel and good. So was the olive oil cake.

Average best describes the Dutch

By jbmWyoming |

I’ve been here several times over the past month due to the Soho location and menu and I think I’m done with the Dutch. Over and over the same thing... After checking in for reservations they cheerfully send you over to the (usually busy and full) bar to wait for your table. The bar is staffed by several bartenders, bar backs, etc and they still can’t seem to look past guests sitting at bar seats and ask the people standing if they would like drinks. This is not a big bar. It’s sufficiently staffed. There just doesn’t seem to be a sense of urgency to get people served and it’s in no way welcoming. I even saw a guy come over and ask a couple to get up from seats along the window as those are “reserved”. Sure, I get it, but then say to them as you are kicking them out of those seats, “but may I bring you something to drink?” They looked at each other and stood for at least five minutes without getting drinks and left. This attitude continues at the table. I get you’re cool. You probably don’t want to be a server in NYC. I was once one, too. The wine took forever to get to us (comped without asking, which I appreciated) and the food was good but I’m just not putting myself thru this again. There are too many other truly great restaurants in the area.

Cozy place

By Ana T |

Unlike most places in New York, this is a quiet and a cozy place, where you can enjoy a meal and a conversation, perfect for a date. Drinks are better than food. The food has too much seasoning for my taste. The wonderful service by the staff and the ambiance are what makes this place.
