Went with a friend before a Broadway show, made dinner reservations for 6:30. We arrived a few minutes early but were promptly seated. Our waiter was great, explaining the menu appetizer edamame came cold not hot, etc. He helped us have a great meal: the turkey sandwich with fig jam was flavorful, but the razor thin 4 slices of apple was not nearly enough for the heavy cheese while the sushi nachos were excellent! Only issue was the noise level, because the dining area bleeds into the bar area. Overall, a good experience.

Visited The Elgin with 3 friends. This is a perfect addition to the neighborhood which is mostly super high end places and low end pubs. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere and awesome food. The French Onion Soup burger was cooked perfectly, The Cauliflower Steak was hearty & delicious and the Chopped Salad has the most delicious dressing. We also had the calamari, shishito peppers and slider appetizers which were all great. Also loved the cocktail and craft beer menu (at least 25 of them). Overall, a really fun night. Will definitely be back soon.

Perfect cool lunch spot, white wine sangria was excellent. Service was prompt and efficient Great experience overall

The cocktails were creative and tasty. The food was a little better than average and relatively reasonably priced for the area.

Had the elgin burger. The patty was fairly small in diameter but overly thick. Absolutely fantastic. The thickness enabled them to cook the patty perfect. The roasted tomatoes in the burger were too notch. The chef came out to say hello (always a nice touch) Had a Manhattan (we were in NY after all) made with rye, best one of the trip.

Veggie burger and fries were phenomenal. Also had the French onion burger with fries which was also great. Veggie burger was made in house and was very fresh. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. We went for lunch.

Stumbled on the Elgin while wandering aimlessly around Manhattan completely dumbstruck after a long day travelling. No tables as it was 7pm on Saturday night but they offered up seats at the bar to eat. Food was AMAZING, just what weary travelers needed and the service was great. Spent the next 5 days trying to find similar places as it provided a good benchmark.

We visited yesterday after a Broadway matinee, made a reservation online and we’re given the choice of inside or outside dining. My daughter had filet mignon, a generous portion and delicious with grilled onions, potatoes and fresh green beans. I had the sliders and a green salad with a tasty lemony vinaigrette. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The bathroom was spacious and immaculate. We definitely will return again. Thank you.

We entered by chance and I must say that the place is very well presented, friendly staff. We ate two very good and unique burgers, and also liked the cauliflower steak (as a vegan option). Average spending for the city

It's a classic NY bar and we enjoyed ourselves. Great beer selection. Service is average and the food was also average although it's nice to have vegetarian choices. It's noisy due to low ceilings so hard to have a conversation.

After watching the Thanksgiving parade, my daughter and I walked about the city and stumbled upon The Elgin. From the host, to our server, we experienced amazing service! So friendly and accommodating. The food was also great! We had a hankering for a burger and chicken sandwich, both were really good. Fries were awesome! They have a nice beer selection. We really lucked out by stopping here. Great cozy vibe inside!

The Elgin is a good place to host a work event. They will hold you a space for a group (we had about 25 prople) . Nice food and good services

The Elgin offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We ended up eating outside. We ordered a number of apps and a pizza. All came out really good. The service was flawless. Prices pretty reasonable for NYC

Great location, atmosphere, food and fast service. Excellent value - highly recommended.

The ladies at the front desk were amazing and found us a table, however the person behind the bar chatting up a women rather than serving and ignoring customers, should either conduct his business away from behind the bar or have a little more sense and go on a customer service course. It resulted in a zero tip being left. Not bade food and other staff were great.

This was a great spot for appetizers and drinks. We stopped in after going to a very busy holiday market. I had a reservation and we got seated right away. The Christmas decor was great and our service was quick. We had the cheeseburger eggrolls and the buffalo chicken sliders, both of which were very good. I would recommend this place!

They served Best hamburger I’ve had in quite a while. Excellent service. The Elgin lager was very good if you like a lighter style beer. Will definitely return

Arrived in NYC on a rainy, miserable day - the museum we wanted to visit was closed and too foggy to go to the Top of the Rock, so we were looking for a place to get in out of the rain and come up with a plan B. Walked by The Elgin, so we stopped in - so glad we did!! Waitstaff could not have been friendlier or more attentive. We just got drinks and appetizers, but they were absolutely delicious! Very glad we stopped, will definitely make a return visit for dinner on our next trip to the city!!!

We stopped in for a light liucn and got a bunch of appetizers. Every one was great and the service was super friendly and efficient. Comfortable seating and a cool bar.

We went on a weekend to NYC, Jacob was brilliant. We have spent the weekend ranking beers and he took a genuine interest Well done Jacob

This little place surprised us!!! They were friendly! Had amazing food, the music was crazy good, the seats were comfy and the service was the best during our whole stay in NYC Super recommended! We didnt want to leave!

Great location and lovely inside. Staff very friendly and service was great. Food was excellent and reasonably priced for the location. Great way to spend an evening in Manhattan

Service was great and pretty quick. The food was just ok. I had the turkey sandwich and it had slimy deli turkey meat. The fries were so salty that we could not eat them. My son says his rigatoni was good. We had churros for dessert which were covered in fruity pebbles which was interesting. I had a Coke and it was mostly ice so I finished it quickly. I was never asked if I wanted another one or anything else to drink. And didn’t get a glass of water.

I had the french onion soup and the sloppy Joe empanadas. The soup was very good, but I wouldn't order the empanadas again. Great service though.

Lovely evening I had last week. Service was great, very polite bar staff, namely Cecilla. As a tourist, the Elgin felt very homely. Defo will be returning next time I'm in Londonl!

Nice atmosphere, great service. Not a huge menu but what we ordered was fantastic. Impressed that they had the forethought to issue letter to allow us to get past the police blockade for the Rockerfeller lights turn on 😂

Clean and very nice atmosphere. The bartender was perfect, the food was ok, I think we should have chose the burger, every one I observed served looked fantastic, I will return and have one.

Great spot for dinner. Loved loved loved the tuna nachos and pigs in a blanket. Must get those dishes!! Good wine by the glass and my husband enjoyed the large whisky selection.

Looking for somewhere to eat on our NYC visit and came across The Elgin by accident whilst walking around. . Really enjoyed it. Very authentic atmosphere for us (U.K. Visitors ) Food good, service good. Prices for food appear to be the same as the rest of NYC. Would certainly eat here again if in NYC.

Despite being in the heart of midtown Manhattan where tourism and capitalism are king, The Elgin is located on a side street and appears to be a popular after-work spot for many working in the finance industry. I went with two locals while visiting NYC and around 5 PM the front bar was packed. We luckily got a table in the back and ordered beers, wings, and truffle fries. Note: there is no happy hour. The service was adequate, the setting wasn’t too loud, and our order came out correctly. Give The Elgin a try for your next after-work social gathering.

Good thing we did because by noon it was jammed. Had the burger and beer deal. It was pretty good. Burger was small, but enough for lunch. Server was ok, just not around enough.

After a very long day travelling, this was the perfect place, lively, welcoming, great food and particularly impressed with the staff - who were friendly, attentive and very courteous! Definitely recommend!

What a wonderful bar with the best, old world decor and superb selection of drinks. Rachel from Ireland, the bar maid was an absolute joy!

The Elgin was just brilliant especially after a long day of sightseeing. The service was so friendly and welcoming, and the food was just perfect. I would recommend the Elgin Balls and the French onion burger - very tasty!

We came here for a late lunch so it was pretty quiet, but the ambiance was fantastic. If you happen to be gluten-free then this menu is to die for option wise, but they have plenty of choices for all diets. Everything we had was fantastic… plus the staff were extremely nice, knowledgeable, and fast! Also, the drinks were way above par. I could not recommend this place enough for a quick drink or a lovely meal.

What a fantastic find! Desperate for refreshments after hours of exploring and sightseeing we came across this bar and what a find! The staff were second to none, attentive, friendly and extremely professional! We enjoyed our couple of drinks here we went back the second day for food and wow! This was fantastic! A great little find, if only we weren’t just on holiday so we could make it our local bar! 5 star!

From the festive decor outside and in, to the craft cocktails and delicious gastro pub food, the Elgin was a great experience. We had a charming young woman from Ireland as our server and conversed with a couple at a neighboring table. Read the wall plaque which tells the history of the place. Within walking distance to our Times Square hotel and many shows. We will be returning!

We went to the place twice because we loved it so much. It's a PUB, great for late nights or happy hour. Typical American food, the best burger we ate in NYC. It has a very good beer list and the best bourbon and rye list I've seen in New York. It's worth every penny for the quality of the food and service.

Great spot, very friendly and attentive staff. Sinead is a fantastic hostess and makes everyone feel wolevome. Would go back just for her. 5/5

What a fun time at The Elgin! The food was delicious and they have a great wine selection. We shared a few appetizers - the Spinach & Cheese Croquettes, with smoked chili mayo; the Cheeseburger Egg Rolls and French Onion Soup Burger which was smothered in bone marrow glazed onions, beef onion jus, gruyere - delicious! This new restaurant is gorgeous with an incredible eye to detail. A must if you are in the Time Square/Rockefeller Center area.

We ate in here on our first night after flying from the UK. We wanted something tasty and easy, the food was delicious. The French onion soup burger was out of this world (I had food envy, again) but my chicken sandwich was lovely too. Service was great and a fab atmosphere!!

Good address , fish and chips as well as pizza good Price quality ratio . Fast Service and a typically public setting. In short a good address.

My friend and I flew into New York quite late in the evening, and popped into The Elgin for late night dinner as it was fairly close to our hotel. The atmosphere was lively, if not a bit too loud, but a friendly atmosphere to be sure. What surprised us the most was the food! From the salt and pepper fries…why have I never had these before? ..to the tasty gluten free tacos, it was all great! Our server was a casual and friendly young woman, and we felt quite at home there. Would recommend!

It's very seldom that you can meet up with friends for drinks and or eats at 7 PM in Manhattan and #1 Be able to find enough places to sit or #2 Not feel claustrophobic from all of the people smooshed into your personal space if you are fortunate enough to snag a table. The Elgin is a gorgeous bar with 2 floors, that while full of upwardly mobile people after work, was still able to make me and my friends feel cozy and right at home from the very moment that we sat down. They did not rush you out of the space like some bar and grills do if you're not eating fast enough for them either. Speaking of eating can we talk about the menu please?! Wowzers! We had a lot of discerning ie picky people at our table and every last one of us found something tantalizing to tempt our tastebuds on the menu! The wings were delectable with sauce or with the curry rub. The steak was perfectly pink and so very tender! The burgers are just as yummy and the buns are incredibly soft! The fries come with a fried egg PERFECT for dipping should you care to indulge! Not a meat person? No problem try the cauliflower steaks or bites they are simply scrumptious! The mac-n-cheese was delectables and had the right amount of cheese to appease your craving without overwhelming your palate. Lastly their menu had churros and a s'more fondue and we couldn't choose so we ordered both! Dipping those warm churros into that gooey chocolate and marshmallow awesomeness had to be my favorite part of the experience! It was Heaven on a small plate! The Elgin gave us the experience we wanted and needed and we will definitely be back to hangout soon!

Excellent food and service ..great to hear the history connection to our home town Elgin Morayshire ..Highly recommend

We were in town for one night for a show. We checked into the hotel and wanted to get dinner with no reservation. We figured we would stumble upon somewhere interesting. When we saw The Elgin, we liked the vibe from the street. We went closer to look at the menu posted on the wall. My husband and I were not terribly impressed with the selection, noting that it appeared to be more "bar food" than dinner entrees. There was a guy sitting with his family on the bench outside. He told us to try it. He said it was the second time they had eaten there that week. With his endorsement, we went in. It was packed even at 4:00 which surprised us, thinking we would be early birds. We got a nice cozy table in the back. Our waitress was wonderful, charming, welcoming and efficient. We ordered wine and the artichoke dip appetizer. She recommended that we get an extra order of toast with it because the dip is such a generous portion and it only comes with 4 toast points. Great suggestion! Then, we each ordered the Elgin Cobb Salad (mine with steak, my husband's with chicken). This salad was so delicious. I don't even know everything that was in it but it was so interesting and tasty. Definitely recommend trying it. Those around us were enjoying burgers and pizza. Everything looked very good. Dinner for 2 with an appetizer and 4 glasses of nice wine only came to $100 so very reasonable for what you get. Definitely glad we listened to the guy on the bench.

Had reservations and we were quickly seated during the holiday rush. Martinis were on point, dinner was good. Server was sweet, and though she was quite busy she was attentive. Great experience. Big bathrooms that were fairly empty for the size of the place. Would go again!

Nice atmosphere, kid friendly, variety of menu items, clean restrooms, adequate service. Glad we stopped by for dinner.

Beautiful pubs with nice food and good beer. A place that encourages you to come and stay… Well prepared dishes and good beer. Kindness of the dark-haired waitress who also serves outside, the opposite of the kindness at the cash register who doesn't even look at you and leaves you standing for 10 minutes to pay without asking for anything. Recommended anyway

Not far from broadway, we could have thought that the place was nothing but a restaurant made for tourists. We’ve been amazed by the hamburgers which were so good, as well as the fries. Very high quality, I can only recommend.

My wife and I stumbled across the Elgin on our way back from the Rockefeller. We booked for dinner a little later as heard it got busy. On arriving the staff were very friendly and showed us to a cosy table at the back of the restaurant. It was pretty busy but we were served quickly and efficiently. Both went for the Elgin burger- it was super! Cooked to perfection and the chips were great :) The atmosphere in there was great too- real mix of families, city workers and couples etc- just felt like a very cosy and inviting place to be. Money wise it wasn't bad at all by NY standards. The burgers with fries were $17 each I think (plus we added bacon for $2 extra) and I had a pint of their own IPA which was $8 (seems about the going rate for a pint here). All in all highly recommended- I can't believe there aren't more reviews on here for it already!

We had a great time. Service was fast the dish very hearty and very good well seasoned and stocked Add almost 10% tax + tips to choose from We had it for 55€ flat + drinks all inclusive I recommend close to Rockefeller Center

Fantastic spot in the heart of Times Square. Table for 8 was available right at lunch time after a show. Food was amazing, ambience was great, Christmas decor was up. I had the French onion soup burger… was very good!

Read all the good reviews so it was on my list of places to go. The place is very nice with a spacious beautiful bar. Bartenders were both very nice. We just split a salad and a Lobster roll. The salad was very average and it tasted like they just poured vinegar on it. The Lobster roll was dry and very bland.

What a find. The best meal we had whilst in New York. Without doubt one of the best steaks ever had. The cookie dough skillet was a hit with the whole table. Waitress was very good .

The Elgin is a comfy, cozy restaurant with a great bar & attentive staff. If you are in the Rockefeller Centre area definitely have a drink here or even a good meal! The bartenders were friendly & acknowledged you even through the crowd.

Friendly staff, welcoming and hygienized location. Fantastic food! I recommend! ……………………………………………………………::.:…::.:…:::……………….

A serendipitous find after a long walk in the city, I loved the Elgin. Had the chicken Paillard with kale with vinaigrette on top and it was delicious and healthy. Great and friendly service and very reasonable prices for this part of NYC. A vibrant bar scene too.

Work around the corner and stopped in for lunch to celebrate boss’ birthday. Had the lamb burger and it was ok. Wings and mezze platter were really good apps. Would I go back. Not really. Tons of places in the area to scope out.

Great after work buzz in a lively space with a beautifully restored, historic but contemporary bar. Thoughtful menu, delicious food, nice waitstaff (ours waitress was from Ireland and very friendly). Great burger - tried the onion soup burger and it was awesome! Cool upstairs space and bar. Good place to know about for pre/post theater or Times Square visits.

Nice bar for a late night dinner. Mainly mainly burgers and pizza type of place. Food was good and not too run of the mill. Drinks were good and tried the pizza which was better than expected, cheese burger egg rolls were fabulous, and spinach dip tasted great and was lighter than most. Certainly worth stopping if you need something for dinner and you are near by. Nice atmosphere.

We discovered this beautiful New York pub by chance, a few meters from Rockefeller Center, a really nice place, with attention to detail, frequented mostly by New Yorkers who work in the offices in the neighborhood (this very factor made me appreciate it even more ). Truly excellent dishes (both burgers and pizza) at more than affordable prices. I recommend it to everyone, I will definitely return!

We were walking around NYC and found this inviting gem of a restaurant and loved it. Such a great atmosphere and all decorated for Christmas made it the perfect lunch date.

We had done a million steps (well that might be a slight exaggeration) but it felt like it lol) and needed a pit stop. We came across The Elgin by chance and we were glad we did, what a super place and it was so Christmassy. Lovely inside but we chose to sit in there covered outside area at the front which was lovely and cosy. We only stopped for one as we had another million steps to do but the drinks where good the staff really friendly.

All for of us selected the house burger and it was very delicious. Also the fries were very good and I also enjoyed the salad. A very good, light dressing with nice dark green leaves…amazing. What is also important to mention is that they have gluten free buns with all their burger options.

We ate here for a quick lunch before a play. What a fantastic choice. The onion soup burger is truly memorable. It is cooked to your specifications and wonderfully juicy. The waitstaff is very accommodating without being in your face, the tables aren’t crammed together and you aren’t rushed through your meal. I loved everything about this place.

Really delicious food. The wings were not crispy as we expected them to be and the service was a little slow. Overall this was a positive place and we recommend. The cheeseburger egg roll and cookie skillet were delicious!

We found the Elgin while walking back to our hotel after a long day at the US Open. We were hungry and tired, and thankfully we found this place! It was a cozy atmosphere, and our waitress was kind and helpful. Our table shared the cauliflower appetizer, and I had the chicken wings, both of which were delicious!

This restaurant is by far one of the best I have been to in Manhattan. The price is so reasonable, the food is amazing and the atmosphere and staff are fantastic. It is not a large place so I do suggest reservations.

enjoyed the food although the steak my son had was not a consistent colour throughout and ranged from well done to red. My problem is with the waitress- do not know who she thought she was with her cold attitude and unfriendliness and she ignored us a lot and got order mixed, it is scary how she still expected a tip...... well I am sure our tip reflected her service!!!!

If you are heading to NYC in search of a pub that feels local, is perfect for couples, families with children I highly recommend The Elgin. The service is as excellent as Del Fresco's and the food/martinis are excellent. This is the second year i brought family there after our holiday Rockettes show Everything was even better than last year thank you .

I had a good hamburger there it was really good and the place is very nice, I'll come back if I come back to New York one day!

We had our holiday party here for work. It was a fantastic venue. Nicely decorated. Good food and drinks. I hope we always have our holiday parties here.

I went on a week night for dinner and the place was packed and loud. Friendly bartender, not so friendly hostess. The Elgin burger might just be the best burger I've ever had. Food and alcohol were reasonably priced.

We stopped at the cutest restaurant. We started with the crab artichoke dip...amazing!!!! Then I had a sausage pizza and my son had the chicken paillard. The seasoning was amazing and very tasty. This is a relatively new restaurant that can be missed. Rachel, our bar tender, was so nice and helpful. We will definitely be back next time we are in NY

This place was a cozy and lively break from the cold and crowds. A friend and I sat at the bar and were thoroughly entertained by the friendly and competent staff (especially Jose). Drinks were amazing! We were having so much fun, we ordered pizza-would still be there if we hadn’t had to catch a train home.

We found this pub on our way into Manhattan and stopped for dinner. The place is frequented by many young people who stop for a drink after work and linger at the counters. Those who opt for dinner are seated in a very welcoming room just behind with comfortable sofas. Dinner was served quickly even though the place was packed with people. The polite and friendly staff served us excellent quality food and we very much appreciated the NY steak. Prices average for the area. Definitely recommended

This was a great find right near Rockefeller Center. Spacious restaurant with upscale American dining. When we went it was decorated for Christmas which added some extra charm. Despite it being in the heart of everything, it felt more like a local hangout than a tourist trap.

This is my first time in NYC with my Mum and as two brits, the Elgin was just the break from the hustle and bustle we needed. Really lovely, chilled, cosy atmosphere and all the staff were incredibly friendly. Special mention goes to Jason and Rachel who when the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The food was nice and we will definitely return if we can’t get a table anywhere else this trip!

The Elgin Balls/veal meatballs were crazy good. Nice staff great food and a cozy atmosphere. I also the southern chicken sandwich which was very good.

Perfect central location in Rockefeller Center, and a quiet oasis when you need to relax and regroup from the crowds and site-seeing. Staff was attentive and friendly. Burger was good but a bit soggy from their house condiment/onion jam. Highlight was the fries: Generous portion of salty, crisp perfection! Soooo good. Given the atmosphere and staff, I would come back next time for happy hour -- bar was big and inviting. They also have outdoor tent seating.

Great spot. Had just arrived in NYC, looking for a bite to eat near the hotel. Just stumbled on this place. Nice ambience, good beer list. Great service ( from a Londoner no less) and the Elgin burger was excellent. Nothing fancy just old school beer and burgers or fish and chips if you prefer. Would highly recommend.

Interesting choice of beers and food too. Service was good and it was nice to be able to sit outside given the great weather

Stylish pub just steps from Rockfeller Center. Comfortable seating and a well-kept vintage environment. Fast service and tasty sandwiches. As a size itself is not plentiful, but the portion of meat in the interior is generous. Overall great sandwich served by discreet fries.

We ordered a roasted mushroom soup and a rigatoni to share. My son and I weren’t very hungry since we ate a very late lunch. We are so glad we didn’t order a lot. The rigatoni was $30 and was very mediocre. Bland salty flavour, the mushroom soup was also too salty and way too rich. The waitress seemed nice, but came too late in the meal to ask how the food was. The only positive is the food came very fast, so if you’re in a rush then this place is a good choice.

The Elgin is a good sociable place for a drink. I thought that the food was average overall. Nice ambiance and outside seating.

The Elgin is in a busy section of Midtown, but it's a great restaurant and definitely one worth checking out. My wife and I came here in January and we loved our meal. It's a cozy place and that was perfect on a cold winter day. Our service was very good and we started our meal out with a cocktail and a local draft beer, both of which were tasty. We had fried cauliflower for an appetizer and it was quite tasty. My wife got the steak au poivre and she loved the steak, but really, really loved the fries (the best she's ever had). I had the Elgin burger and it was very, very good and very satisfying. It's a lovely restaurant and one that we'd visit again!

Made a dinner reservation here for two to celebrate my birthday. We were seated right away. The restaurant had a great and cozy atmosphere. Our server was attentive, but not overly so. We had two drinks, shared the pizza entree, and the Molten cake for dessert. We enjoyed everything and didn't feel rushed. We saw a show after dinner at it was about a ten minute walk to the theater, perfect to walk off the meal! Would definitely dine here again, but recommend a reservation on Friday night/weekends to avoid a wait and get a good table!

Found by chance walking back one evening after skating at the Rockefeller. Just wanted pizza and a beer and found we could sit out front under heated cover Quite busy with locals meeting for a drink, but service was quick. Both the beer and pizza were the best we found during our 6 day stay, highly recommended

We stumbled across this restaurant and we really enjoyed the experience of eating there. We didn't have a reservation for dinner but they got us to a table instantly. The food is good with service even better.
Good bar
Excellent whisky sours, the perfect pick me up after the emotional experience of seeing Leopoldstadt at a nearby theatre
