great service. v friendly. hustle to get people served and pleased. looks like a hood favourite. had the avocado toast. was v good. maybe not as ‘authentic’ as Buvette. but pretty damn basic and good.

To begin with, The Flame is open 24 hours and delivers around the clock. There is the extensive diner menu with daily specials - all good. The rice pudding keeps me coming back.

It’s a pretty good diner the menu is WAY too big. Service is fast and efficient. Try the blue burger but substitute fries for the onion rings.

Very nice athmosphere, great food, nice servants. We liked the diner so much, that we went back several times during our 1 week stay.

This was a cross the road from our hotel so used daily for breakfast while in new york. Excellent service, good quality hot food. Always busy no matter what time we went in. Gave a good start to the day before heading out to shop and sight see.

Good food, good service and reasonable prices. It is a diner near Columbus Circle, its offering is beyond what is found in the area, where there is a lot of packaged food, so it is valued.

Excellent service and very friendly staff. The food was Very Good and plentiful. Thoroughly recommend it.

The service staff were brilliant, we ate here a few times during our stay. The breakfasts were very good, omlettes and potato rosti especially nice. Coffee refills plentiful. Very attentive.

Excellent service. Big menu. Sparkling interior with enough kitsch to be cute. Good is excellent. Prices reasonable. Out of the hustle and bustle of 8th and 7th Avenue. A/C works very well :-)

Handy for the Hudson Hotel and opposite "Fluffys" (also reviewed). Had breakfast here twice. Gigantic portions, efficient service, dozens of staff. Expensive by British standards but on par for New York. Typical American Diner

We had a feast, felt at home staff present to assist if needed accessible rate close to CP and TS

The food was great, the service prompt and friendly, and the surroundings clean and tidy. Definitely recommend the pasta carbonara!

Awesome cracker home cooking! Everything we ordered was superlative and reasonable! Especially liked the fried chicken livers and collards! The fried green tomatoes too. They have many old Florida offerings on the menu; alligator, catfish, locally-sourced beef.ALL GOOD! Very down home and unassuming!

I stayed at a hotel in NY for 5 days and ate breakfast at the "The Flame" about 4 times during my visit. I really enjoyed the coffee and most of all the price was just right. The staff were nice and the restaurant stayed busy the whole time. I would definitely eat here again if I come to visit NY again.

This is a quintessential NY diner with an eclectic menu that includes American, Greek, and Italian family dishes. Attentive wait staff who efficient and quick to serve. You cannot go wrong with the Flame.

We stayed at the Hudson so this was very convenient being across the road on the corner. It's nothing fancy but the food and service is excellent. I tried a different omelette every morning... all really good. Was never disappointed. They are constantly refilling your coffee up which I thought was great. All staff friendly and service was great. Prices reasonable too. Happy days!

Went here for breakfast. The food was decent. But the service - the service was terrible. Our waiter, a South American man, seemed to be in a bad mood. He was needlessly abrupt and passive aggressive right from the get go. Slapped our food down in front of us. The only time he was civil was when he brought us the check. On top of this, the very second we had paid our bill we had people making hints that we should move on, even though we still had drinks to finish. Just to summarize - the food here is not great and the service is poor. Go somewhere else for breakfast.

We strolled here for breakfast after walking out of the Brooklyn Diner due to lack of service. We were seated right away and provided water and menus. I ordered the Bacon, sausage and ham omelet with French Fries with a side of gravy. The omelet was delicious and the shoestring fries were nice and crispy. The portions were also generous. The entire staff was very nice and the prices are very reasonable.

Thanks for the hospitality! We stayed at the Hudson across the street during the NYCWFF and came in for dinner one night and breakfast the next. HUGE food and wonderful, personable service. The waitstaff were very attentive and nice. The moussaka and eggs benedict were beautiful and SO big. I took food back to the hotel. My fiancee also enjoyed the veal parm and eggs and sausage the next morning. I'm pretty sure the next time I'm in the city near Central Park I'll be stopping in!

We visited this establishment for breakfast on two different occasions. It's proximity to where we were staying is what attracted us. The premises are modern and clean and laid out in typical diner fashion. There is ample seating at the bar or in booths. Decor is typical diner. Service was fast and friendly. Food was as expected. Good but nothing outstanding. Prices were reasonable for this area.

We were staying very close by and most of us chose this place for casual dining for both breakfast and dinner (the hotel we were staying at falling far short of expectations on both). It is what it is - a classic diner with little or no frills. Good service not unfriendly but with that certain Manhattan 'Je ne sais quoi' practical attitude. Extensive menu but over the few days we all had our favourite dishes. Very reasonably priced in an increasingly expensive NYC

Ate there several times this past weekend. Kids in tow, looking for comfort food. The food was great, the service happy and efficient. We were very grateful.

We found this diner just off Columbus Circle. They open at 6am and you are welcomed in. The service is freindly and prompt and the food is good and plentiful with a bottomless cup of coffee. Two adult breakfasts with coffee and juice $25.

If you want to be warmly greeted at the door, seated in a comfortable and homey decor, served delicious food, surrounded by local citizens, then this is the spot for you!

If you have never been to an American diner, this is typically what you would expect. The menu has everything. The food is fresh and tasty with big portion sizes. The desserts looked ridiculously good but with the brunch portion sizes, we didn't have room to try them. The staff were friendly and there was no waiting around. The food was steaming coming out it was so fresh. Well worth a visit for the American diner experience.

My friend Scott and I were looking for a quick, cheap, and delicious place to have dinner near Lincoln Center, and I instantly thought of The Flame. I've been there many times, and it's always stellar. I had my stomach set on an omelet, but was tempted by one of the specials, the fettucine carbonara. Oh Lord it was delicious. Our server was Nikolas, a classic old school wonderful New York diner waiter. He was one of the highlights of the meal.

Recently had 4 nights stay at the Hudson this restaurant is approx 40 meters away , it's got a real comfy feel about it the waiters are very attentive there is a good choice on the menu again at reasonable prices bonus is open 24 hours ps soup what a starter 👍 basically a very pleasant experience

This was just around the corner from our hotel so we had breakfast here every morning, staff great food great and the price was ok for New York. Coffee refilled many times and free water for all the sausage was great and egg cooked perfectly, my kids loved the Oreo pancakes and the Flame waffle, a mix of locals and tourists, I would recommend The flame to anyone.

So many diners in midtown have been pushed out so we were so happy to find this one close to our hotel. We went twice…we would have gone a third time but we were meeting a friend downtown for our last breakfast at another great diner. The food and service were great. Lots of variety. Very clean. I’m sure the plexiglass walls were per Covid but I hope they keep them up as it cut down on noise from other tables. We were a group of three but they managed large groups fine.

Out first night in new York and we try this place since its close to the hotel. I got the lasagne and my wife got the meatballs. My lasagne was ice cold in the middle, obviously had been microwaved from frozen and was still very cold in the middle. I managed about 3 bites before I felt sick. My wife's meatballs were at least hot. That's as good as it got, she only managed to eat half of it before saying she felt sick. 30mins later, it came back out. The staff barely spoke to us at all even when bringing out the food it was just dumped on the table in front of us with no words and barely a glance from the server. Nobody came to ask if the food was ok, nothing. We also got lemonade to drink, this in fairness tasted good. But looking at the black and brown grit that was embedded onto the lemon skin, I am assuming they had been chopped on a dirty surface and not washed before being used. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere as we were quite literally sick! On the plus side, after stomachs settled, the pizza shop fluffys over the road was quite pleasant.

Eat in this place 3 times in 5 days whilst staying across the road at Hudson Hotel. They have a very extensive menu and the food was cooked to a great standard. Recommend the steak and eggs breakfast, sorted me out for a long day of sightseeing. Would defo recommend

Our hotel was very close to this restaurant. The hotel had no food options and this was a really handy breakfast place for us. Good choices, average prices, good service and friendly staff. We ate breakfast there every day. It was always busy. They were open throughout the day.

Service: not so attentive. Food: ok, but nothing spectacular. Overall experience: we preferred to eat at our hotel better.

Had breakfast here two mornings in a row and tried different items. Food was always prepared perfectly. We came in one night and ordered four different desserts to take home and all shared. It was so much fun!

The best image I can conjure up is to suggest this is the US-equivalent of a Little Chef restaurant. Although service was with a smile, the food quality was acceptable.

Wow Flame Diner is awesome, great food, great staff, locals eat here too. Ordered a waffle which is as big as a dinner plate and I had pancakes, choose multi grain with yoghurt and fruit- both meals amazing and my wife loved her waffle and fruit. There is a wide variety on the menu and to be honest we should have gone again this diner is fantastic.

Have breakfast here every time we are in New York even when not staying nearby. Tried it for the first time several years ago and have used ever since. Quality and service has never altered year by year. Highly recommend.

Good food, convenient, good service and at a good price. Couldn't fault it really - Corn Beef Hash was excellent for breakfast.

We had lunch here because it was recommended and close to our Hotel. The Patty Melt was the best I've ever had. The service was quick and efficient. The experience was so good, we went back for lunch the next day. Same good food, same exceptional service. Part of our group even squeezed in breakfast one day and late night dessert another.

Skip the breakfast at your hotel and take a stool at the counter (or take a seat at a table) and enjoy a breakfast as you like that’s quickly prepared and brought to you with a meant smile. For the staff you’re a friend that’s coming to eat. Great ham and eggs and propped coffee! Open 24/7 also for dinner etc.

It's one of the very few good diners left in Midtown. It's always open and the food is good. It's the typical diner fare, portions are huge and everything is cooked to order. The servers are kind and fast. I would go back and recommend it. It's also priced nicely for NYC! You don't feel like you've been robbed when you see the bill.

This restaurant is in the Columbus Circle area in Hell's Kitchen. It is open 24 hours which is a plus. And the entire menu is available pretty much for all of those 24 hours. Food was pretty ordinary, but satisfactory. It seemed like the waiters knew most of the customers and this was nice to see in a neighborhood diner. One of us had liver and onions while the other chose eggplant parmigiana. Only in a diner could you see this wide variety in the menu. Prices were average.

I live nearby and go to the Flame pretty regularly. Their breakfast ain't the greatest, but passable. However, the lunch and dinner are good and the specials, in particular, are really nice and worth every penny. Full portions, nice choice of sides, including freshly roasted potatoes and homemade ratatouille instead of the standard bland and over-done sides. Great, attentive service and an appreciation for the needs of customers regarding seating arrangements. Don't order the delicious-looking desserts in the dessert case, opt instead for the fresh rice pudding!

Polite, freindly diner serving tasty meals. Our order was mushroom omelette and lox baigel. Both plentiful and flavorsome.

Staying at a hotel nearby, we didn't want to stray far for Dinner. So we gave this place a try. Pleasant welcoming service interesting and varied menu and obviously popular with locals. We enjoyed a dinner by the window whilst we watched the world of New York passing by. We returned the day after for portions of the lovely desserts which were a winner.

Good coffee, good food, good service, fair price. A good choice for a reasonable-priced, well-prepared midtown Manhattan meal!

A friend who lives in New York recommended The Flame to us. As it was literally just round the corner from our hotel we decided to give it a try. We were really impressed. The place his nice, bright, clean & spacious. We were quickly shown to a booth. Our merger was lovely. Really polite and didn't put us under any pressure to rush as you sometimes get in NYC. The food was delicious. Really hot and nicely presented. You didn't have to wait to ask for anything as there were people walking round constantly topping up water & coffee. We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day. A great find and highly recommended.........

Found this gem while spending some time in New York ( Breakfast most important meal of the day). We were greeted with a smile and immediately seated, our server then greeted us and offered us coffee while we reviewed the menu. I had the spinach, mushroom and cheese omelette with rye toast and hash browns. My girl had he Belgian waffle. Both orders came out promptly and well prepared( not everyone does Breakfast well) I highly recommend this restaurant for a great breakfast!!

Great Breakfasts, Really Good Coffee & plenty of it and friendly, attentive staff...unpretentious local diner.

I took a walk while my wife was having a minor procedure done at nearby hospital, raining outside, I decided not to go far. Looked in a few windows and decided, this was wereiwas to have lunch. The waiter came over, very nice, and proffessional made some suggestions. The complete lunch was a great value, ranging from $12 an up. Soup entrée and beverage. The soup was home-made clam chowder, I loved the soup, so I ordered wine. The spinach pie came out with a Greek salad, hot food hot cold food cold, I enjoyed my lunch, was not rushed. My thought is a local place been there for a while, not going anywhere. Definitely give it a try!

Great NYC Diner, open 24 hours. It has all the right elements: friendly, fast and affordable. I eat her each time I visit NYC.

We ate here nearly every morning staff very attentive and friendly food was really good although massive portions. Worth the money

This restaurant is spacious and has bright lights, booths, a counter with bar stools, and lots of neighborhoody-type people. My wife and I had dinner here in December 2016, on a Sunday night just before Christmas. We liked it a lot. My cheeseburger had a perfectly-toasted sesame bun, and my wife enjoyed her bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. The french fries were good. Service was very good. Prices are normal (not scary NY prices). No complaints! I will go here again.

Enjoyed the Flame for breakfast. Large, bright restaurant. Good food and over the top service! Wait staff were constantly circling the restaurant with coffee pots. Will be back!

We had been walking for hours and needed an American coffee shop to stop and have a nice coffee and my boyfriend wanted a corned beef sandwich. We stopped her and did just that....a wonderful respite after lots of walking and lots of rain too, and the corned beef sandwich was massive !!!

Had heard about this from my local town bus driver, who visits the city often. After a late night visit to a hospital for a relative, stopped in here for breakfast. The place was clean, and the service was pretty good. Received fries instead of breakfast type potatoes, but that was okay. Some of the prices were a little high (OJ $4.25 for a small!), but overall the breakfast was really good. For four people the bill came to almost $50, but this is NYC after all. I would go back and try a different meal.

Enjoyed a fantastic group brunch today with 7 people, which the Flame handled smoothly. Most of us chose one of the Specials offering creative choices such as avocado eggs Benedict, chorizo/eggs/toast combination or breakfast quesadilla. All the specials includes choice of coffee/mimosa/bloody Mary, in contrast to other brunch venues in this area charging $4.50 for a cup of coffee. Traditional pancakes, waffles, fruit and granola also looked amazing. Friendly service made this diner a fun and reliable option near Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center. Highly recommend!

The restaurant is a typical New York diner, with a big menu and many diverse selections. It is laid out like most similar restaurants, with a friendly, attentive staff. The soups are good, and the salads are okay. My wife ordered the moussaka, which you think would be good in a Greek diner, but was not. My guess they can make simple things, although moussaka is not all the complicated, but when you get beyond the basics, they do not do it well.

I've been eating at the Flame for years. This is a coffee shop with a diner influence. The food is plentiful and tasty, always fresh. The menu offers a wide range of dishes, hot and cold. The service is professional and helpful. The Flame is located a short distance from Lincoln Center. Why pay the high prices at crowded restaurants when you can have delicious home-cooked style food a few steps away.

The grilled chicken was good. Aside from that, everything was at best mediocre. E.g., canned/frozen veggies, ho hum matzo ball soup, avgolemono thick like too much corn start, poorly constructed bloody mary (tomato sauce with horseradish in a small glass?), small booths/tables. The waittress even told us that they can't make any special dishes because a lot of the food is pre-prepared (e.g., frozen, etc.) It looks interesting from the outside and all sounds good, but in the end, although I thought it was possible that a diner was different and better in New York, it wasn't.

I was visiting from out of town and went here with a friend who lives nearby. This is a typical New York neighborhood good restaurant. Lots of menu choices and reasonable prices. I had the spinach and feta pie - excellent. He had the veggie lasagna, also excellent. And the portions are large. A real value for the price and in New York, that's important. The service was very good. This is a nice place to eat without going broke at one of the many expensive New York restaurants.

Cozy little place for breakfast and lunch. Unlimitted mimosas for brunch, except for Sundays until after 12PM. Hard to accommodate large parties, but overall, would come back again if in the area.

Busy local diner with a Hugh menu. Service was great, food exactly as you'd expect. If you want a cheapish quick to longer meal without the bangs and whistles then this is a great bet

Our group of four had a nice dinner here. The staff was very friendly, had the feel of a hometown diner. The menu was good and had something for everyone including vegetarian. The food was good. Waiter took a bit to get our check but we weren't in a hurry. The restaurant was clean and the staff attentive.

Fast and friendly service, decent food (fries were great) but really expensive. Watch out for the surcharge when you pay by card.

We liked the breakfast, fresh juice, eggs and pancakes were nice. For coffee I ordered a double espresso with milk aside. Beter than the regular coffee. Tables quite close to each other but try to sit next to people that are not too loud (;-) In fact if you make abstraction of the very busy floor design (look up), you can really find a it a relaxing place.

Called here at lunchtime, recommended by a guy hiring bikes on 8th street. The staff were welcoming and the choice was great. We both close different chicken salads, they were fabulous! The beer was cold and the wine well chilled. Would highly recommend.

This is not a posh restaurant but a good honest diner, giving great service, great food and great value. We had been out walking the streets of New York all day and were heading back to our hotel and decided we'd eat on the way. The Flame has a huge menu, which often puts us off, but we were hungry and what we could see through the window looked good. We were shown to a table and the waitress came and took our order - we both ordered the Penne Pasta with Chicken and Broccoli. The waitress then offered us a choice of a glass of wine, a bowl of soup or a fresh salad to start - which she advised us was FREE! We opted for the salad, which was enormous - a meal in it's own right - beautifully presented and delicious. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was lovely. Our Penne Pasta with Chicken and Broccoli was also an enormous dish - piping hot and cooked to perfection. We just couldn't eat it all! One of the best value meals we've ever had!

Stayed at The Hudson Hotel and a member of staff recommended here which was just on the corner. Good menu, friendly staff, quick service and great value for money. Worth a visit.

I really wanted to like my experience at this classic NYC diner - as it was a pleasant and comfortable place to be - but my salmon burger was so terrible, it tainted the whole experience! It was in the menu as a “grilled salmon” burger, but in reality it was a sloppy minced salmon patty with far too many breadcrumbs and other fillers, and tasted of absolutely nothing. I guess this is the NY answer to “grilled salmon”, and it’s not their fault I didn’t understand what i was ordering, right?! Otherwise, a friendly older waiter, which whom I struck up a conversation: he, very professionally, took up my query about the burger with the kitchen, and looked after me very well. PS. I returned here with a friend, this time for a turkey burger, a couple of days later. I’m afraid it wasn’t much better!

Basic New York coffee shop experience with the usual extensive menu. They closed for renovation and reopened about a year ago with much higher prices. Nothing wonderful but you won't get anything bad, either. They stay open late. Capably managed and service is efficient.

You get what you expect, a very generously sized meal with plenty of trimmings. The staff are very efficient and very friendly also.

Since I make a few trips to New York City, I like to eat at a good diner. Unfortunately, the diner I use to go to closed and using Trip Advisor I came upon the Flame Restaurant and my brother and I had a wonderful experience! We were greeted by a friendly hostess, quickly seated and a waiter came over right away. I ordered pancakes and bacon and they were wonderful! The restaurant was very clean including the rest room. Next trip to New York WILL definitely include a stop at this great restaurant!

If you are staying in or around Times Square, as we were, then this diner is a short walk away near Central Park. We came across it on our first morning and found it to be worth another visit. It's a busy place but we were quickly seated and drinks brought. Whether it was pancakes, corned beef hash or bacon and eggs all dishes were tasty, plentiful and delivered promptly. The servers were attentive and quickly refilled drinks as required. As this is not centrally located the prices were excellent too. Well worth the walk, and you can use the extra steps to justify ordering a big breakfast.

For some reason not known to me, my review of The Flame Diner appears on Trip Advisor as a review of The Red Flame Diner. The Flame is located within easy access to Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The Red Flame is closer to the theater district. The original review was written in 2014, but I am pleased to report that nothing has changed. The Flame, open 24 hours, is a great find. The prices are very reasonable and the dinner entres and sandwiches are never less than passable and sometimes---the lamb shanks w/orzo in particular, much better than that. Where The Flame shines brightest is BREAKFAST food. When you order scrambled eggs soft, they come soft; when you order them hard, they come hard; eggs over medium are different from eggs over easy and The Flame makes the difference every time. And when you ask for extra butter on your toast, that is what you get. And you get your breakfast very quickly from an invariably friendly staffer, even when the diner is nearly filled which, I am happy to say, is happening with greater frequency these days. Let's hear it for The Flame!!t

Great classic diner. Good food and atmosphere. Conveniently located at 58th and 9th adjacent to Columbus circle. Nice stop at any time of day or night. All ages dining here! You can't go wrong here if it is good diner food you are after.

Coffee shops like this are rapidly vanishing from the New York landscape. Stopped in for a late breakfast during an overnight in my old home town. Good selection of omelets, etc. for breakfast / brunch. Counter service. Passable coffee.

Flame Diner is one of those old-time New York neighborhood diners with an extensive (and not expensive) menu. The menu ranges from all the traditional breakfast foods through a very good diner lunch menu (the club sandwiches are certainly worth trying) to some really nice dinner selections. It is not a "fancy" place, it is a just a diner with good food and quick service. Just steps away from Central Park, this restaurant, it is a place where both locals and tourists can enjoy the food.

We came for breakfast two days and it was very good value for money. the set breakfast deal with eggs and potatoes was delicious, toast and fruit juice and tea or coffee all for $8 service was quick and the food well above average for the money.

The place appears like it's been there for many decades and the the florescent lighting is bright enough that you'll see every grain of rice and morsel of meat on your plate. Look, this dining establishment isn't gonna blow you away gastronomically and the creature comforts barely exists. What you get is basic pasta, Greek type and standard American fare, but what you'll get is that it's better than average and you'll get plenty of it. The service is attentive and fast as a New York minute. So if you're in town for whatever reason and just want to get through your day with a good meal, this place will satisfy your hunger and you'll be served quickly.

First time and will be back! Good food, good service, nice people... A bit tight, but it is NYC:-). Enjoy!

We stopped by for a quick dinner, and it was great! Homemade Greek pistachio with a nice salad, friendly staff, quick service. We often stay at a hotel within walking distance, so, needless to say, we'll be back!

We were lucky enough to have this diner less than a block away from our hotel, The Hudson. It’s the kind of establishment with regulars, where the servers know their names and preferences. And the food! Huge servings of simple yet flavourful variety. Not fancy, but good “home cooking”. I’d like to give a shout-out to our server, Dawn! Friendly, the kind of person who would call you “honey”, she bent over backwards to deal with my friend’s various allergies, even convincing the kitchen to cook something not usually on the menu - and she did so patiently and pleasantly- with no eye-roll whatsoever! 😉 Just wanted to make sure we left satisfied and happy. We did!

An absolutely delicious breakfast! We had the Eggs Benedict; Pancakces; and the Lumberjack (I think that's what it was called!) breakfast (which was French Toast, your choice of eggs and toast)- in my case, I combined Ham with Swiss cheese omelette for my Lumberjack. The French toast was "to-die'for"! The Ham & Cheese Omelette was exactly how I requested- runny/under-done- absolutely HEAVENLY! I'll return for another breakfast before we leave NYC!

We went here as it was close to our hotel. Enjoyed the moukassa and other Greek dishes. Staff attentive.

Very Bad Service. They wanted me to pay my meal before I ate it. I was dining in solo. The Management was very rude and very standoffish. The Management embarrassed me in front of the customers.

We had breakfast here twice during our visit to NYC. Food and service were outstanding and price point reasonable. Our servers were very polite and quick to fill your coffee and ensure everything was to our liking. Food was fresh and coffee was great. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a quality breakfast.

Way too expensive for diner food. Ordered a burger, thought it was standard with most diners and regular restaurants to include the basics like fries and lettuce and tomatoes. It's $18 for just a basic burger. $5 extra if you want the fries/lettuce/tomatoes. And it's barely a single portion of fries. My advice is to go elsewhere... the food is just ok, but definitely not ok for the price. Went with friends and burgers alone came out to $80+ without fries and extras. Avoid at all costs.

TIP: The vegetarian moussaka is super here and comes with a small Greek salad (often but not always on the menu).. Has a good West Side location that is so convenient to Central Park's South west edge near Columbus Circle. -- it is right behind Time Warner Center . Has a nice New York feeling.. The foods are hearty, honest and delicious. And the extensive menu serves so many palates. One friend can choose a salad, another may simply choose a bagel or full breakfast at 11 PM, while I will myself will choose a full dinner that is always more than satisfying. The place is bright and cheery with a view to the street where the energy of the city passes by in good view-- including horse carriages that you may also see in Central Park.

Dropped in here for a quick bite while visiting at the hospital. Burger - meh. Grilled cheese, well how can you go wrong? Service brusque, atmosphere typical sterile type diner. No charm. So - you get what you'd expect from a medium quality NYC diner.

Popped in here on our last day in New York for a quick bite to eat, food was all good, staff friendly very clean. Seemed pretty popular as WA quite busy

This place was down the block from where my wife and I were staying, so we wound up here twice, for breakfast. It's your average diner eggs/breakfast meat/hash browns/coffee, nothing more, nothing less. Both servers we had were friendly. It looks like a place you'd find Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer!

I ordered eggplant parmesan. Specifically asked the eggplant to be well cooked and not rare . “ yes will cook it that way for you.” - the food came out within 4 min. Needless to say the eggplant was mostly uncooked !!! I guess you can still order caned soft drinks here - but not much more.

Love the breakfasts here. A real New York diner with great food, well priced and a good selection. The only down side - please don’t tell me how to tip - I’m not stupid and I’m can make up my own mind. This approach lets you down from being a great great place.

It deserves the best because it is the best for what I was looking for. A breakfast like I have always seen in films and TV series of the last century. Scrambled eggs and bacon and friendly staff constantly refilling your coffee cup and glass of water. Spartan place where you can stop for a couple of hours.

We ate here three or four times and alwys found it popular and great value. Staff were friendly and the service exceptional. Wish we'd come here for breakfast too.

Flame is a very reliable breakfast diner. The place is spotlessly clean. The menu is vast. The servers are polite & efficient. The coffee never stopped. High marks for the multi-grain waffles & Greek yogurt.

You want a home cooked meal on the road this is the place. They also have a few exotic meals as well. Everything we ordered was great. Outstanding service. Across the street from Fluffys.

Sorry to say I had the worst filet of fish sandwich ever at The Flame. Dried out and had to ask for tartar sauce. That said, the fries were okay as was the carrot cake.

Had a lovely breakfast at the Flame Diner, very reasonable price and great food. Not too far a walk from Columbus circle but much cheaper than some of the more central diners.

I love breakfast here - it is inexpensive, lots of food, service is great, and it is predictable. It is traditional breakfast diner - so not for the Bougie set. Close to Lincoln Centre, food available throughout the day. So no excuse not to try it at least once.

Classic American diner with typical diner menu. Exactly what you would expect. Prices seemed ok for NYC. Service was good.

Excellent family restaurant with good food and very reasonable prices. We even went twice in one day (returned for desert😉).

love it the food the drinks the venue the staff all top ten for sure I went there three times and was there a week so what does that tell ye

What tremendous service and quality fare at a local diner just blocks from Lincoln Center, St. Paul the Apostle Church, and Fordham University. Our favorite waiter is Polito, but they all go out of their way to make your dining experience memorable. So glad we found them. We are weekly guests.

We just loved the place! Visited for breakfast Great food, which arrived quickly- freshly cut fruitsalad, pancakes and french toast was really good- the place has an autenthic feeling- not fancy, but that was just what made it so nice.

Was busy but getting people in and out. Wife had the breakfast quesadilla and it was incredible, didn’t need salsa. I enjoyed the eggs Benedict with corn beef hash and potatoes which was delicious.

Real bad, again they were trying to get us to buy booze in a diner. The fries were cold, the service was poor, overpriced. I guess anywhere that looks anything like a diner in NYC is to be avoided now. At least we didn't get poisoned at this place.

Pretty straight forward diner. The Flame Diner offers what you'd expect from most diners. The food is pretty average at best, but hits the spot if it's what you're craving for. Breakfast items seem to be the most popular. The corned beef hash is decent enough.

So good we came back the next day. Each time I ordered the red, white and blue waffle (waffle with strawberries, blueberries and cream) and my husband had pancakes with eggs and bacon. It’s a comfy, friendly, low key place that we would return to time and time again if we could. Always busy but never a long wait for a table.

Great NYC diner Open 24 hrs. A classic. With all the normal pluses and minuses. Had breakfast there. Eggs brilliant and coffee surprisingly good

Coming here occasionally for something light to eat after a concert at the Philharmonic we are usually impressed by seeing one wait person serving 40 or so patrons. There is an art to this and The Flame is the place to witness it. Food is well prepared and even fried items, French fries for example are not greasy. The establishment is well lit and clean. Prices are fair, and given the number of places to eat in the neighborhood, this one attracts passing police patrol car crews for meal breaks. Like any good diner, this one has a carousel under glass of some wicked desserts. This will test your will power.

We are visiting Nyc and near our hotel we've found this place. Simple cuisine, great portion, open 24 hr. Friendly service. We'll return surely for a simple stop

We enjoyed our impromptu stop at The Flame Restaurant. The service was wonderful and we just loved our waiter. This is diner food and you feel a little like you are in a Seinfeld episode. Portions are large and the food is fresh.

Solid diner breakfast menu. Everyone in our goups said that their meals tasted great. Waffles were particuarly perfect.

Well i think that this speaks for itself... I was there today with a few friends. The food was disgusting. That, of course, is to be expected. What surprised me was something much worse. While sipping my lemonade, I found a nail in there... 🤮

I ate here after I finished the NYC Marathon. It was ideally located near the finish line for lunch. I had a pretty good cheeseburger (my wife also liked hers) but the fries were a little plain. My one daughter had a turkey sandwich and it was very dry. My other daughter had a gyro that had no sauce in the gyro and she had to ask for it. Also the gyro looked dry as well. Overall, the burgers were good but everything else was just ok.

I have been going to flame for years since it's very close. We can count on simple choices like breakfast food or burgers to Greek favorites. My mother who doesn't like to dine out, can find something satisfying. It's a classic diner with clean surroundings and comfortable booths. Great for an uncomplicated and casual meal. My favorite are egg sandwiches and the coffee. Moussaka is pretty good too.

After a recommendation went to The Flame Diner to try out breakfast. It’s a family run restaurant and after reviewing the menu prices are very reasonable. The menu is extensive but I opened for the corn beef hash and my other half had the waffles with cream and fruit. Food was lovely and hot and tasted great, just what was needed for the day. Portion sizes were just right, my corn beef hash came with free coffee refills too. If you’re after a good breakfast then definitely give this place a visit, as we would happily go there again.

Well worth a visit, and is convenient from Hudson Hotel (also highly recommended). Our server was very helpful, and gave us good advice about what to see and what not to see in NYC. We tried the Fish and Chips, and were very pleasantly surprised about what a great job they made of this very British specialty, 3 medium size pieces of cod and freshly made chips with tartare sauce. Next time we are in town we will introduce them to yet another British staple - mushy peas. Will visit again when next in NYC, highly recommended.

We visited this diner a few times as we found the service and food really good. Coffee and water refills, lots of selection on the menu and reasonably priced.

I had breakfast in this place for the first time forty years ago.....the place is still there, the food is that of a good greek luncheonette, the people are nice....what you want more....

This diner is open 24 hours and serves tasty sandwiches as well as steaks, fish fillets and other entrées. Conveniently located near Columbus Circle and Central Park

Just not very good. Not a lot more to add other than we were just generally disappointed with the food and we will not use again .

What a lovely little find. We ate breakfast here every morning! The staff are so friendly, the food is brilliant! We even squeezed it in on the last day before our flight to get our last pancake fix! Would definitely recommend.

A decent diner that filled up with lots of locals and many visitors to the neighborhood. Your usual diner experience--tables, booths, an extensive menu, friendly service, etc. We are diner people on many nights. The food was good, but not special and not a special value. Full prices, medium quality. We will keep looking for other choices in our new neighborhood. This place will keep filling up since it provides what most people want.

Stopped here for breakfast one morning as it looked like a somewhat classic, non touristy type neighbourhood Diner/Restaurant which I guess it is. Service was good and quick which is always nice for a late breakfast. I ordered an omelette and my partner ordered eggs with some bacon....pretty standard stuff and although these were OK the potatoes that came with it were just a bland unseasoned pile of mess. Maybe we just got a bad batch as it looks like there are some pretty positive reviews here but we didn't bother going back again.

Initially, we visited The Flame for lunch, had a decent experience overall, and opted to come back the following morning for breakfast. Probably the best way to describe this eatery is to think of it as a standard diner with ordinary diner-type food prepared with ordinary diner-type quality. The atmosphere is casual but truly nothing special. Service for our lunch visit was prompt but surly. Service for our breakfast visit was attentive and friendly. So that aspect is hit-or-miss at this place. I ordered a turkey club sandwich and my partner got a salad with grilled chicken for the lunch meal visit. The following day, I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich and he got a tomato, mushroom, and spinach omelet. All of the meals were just fine--nothing special, mind you, but wholly acceptable. Impressed with the place and our experience there? No. Would we go back for another affordable and "safe" meal? Yes.

It's everything you want in a diner: big selection, quick and efficient service, and tasty food. We even got food to go to have on the plane during a cross-country trip, and that sandwich still tasted so good several thousand feet in the sky! We did have one error in our order -- my spouse asked for his eggs scrambled but got them "over hard" instead! -- but we were in a hurry and didn't bother having them remade. Otherwise, it's a solid place that's been around forever and it's only improved over time.

This diner is open 24 hours, and although the prices are a bit steep compared to Fluffy's on the opposite corner, the servings are typically American (large) and the menu varied. Service is fast, and friendly.

I’ve been here many times for breakfast and lunch. Always great service and food. I always love their omelette and ask for my potatoes extra crispy. Last year they even updated the decor.

After a busy day, I sat down and was expecting to be quizzed about what I wanted. I asked them to recommend something to me and the owner took away the menu and brought me three great dishes: soup, lamb shanks and Baklava.

We visited this diner after reading about it in the Matt Scudder books. It didn’t disappoint. The food was great and our server was so friendly and on point.

Had breakfast and dinner here as our hotel restaurant was out of order. Breakfast very good. Dinner average. Menu varied . Service good. A very convenient little place near Central Park. If in New York again would call in and use again

We were staying close by and ended up coming here for 3 out of our 5 breakfasts, during our stay in NYC. They accommodated us (party of 6) easily, the food was very good; the service was excellent and they even mixed things up for us when we wanted to go off menu. Highly recommended for that classic diner experience.

100% Authentic, great and fast service and super food - everything from healthy to crazy and back again

Open 24 hours so good for jet lag time differences. Nice breakfasts and good service. Can’t go wrong really.

We use a parking garage near the Flame on all our trips to New York City and enjoy eating there, whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Large selection of foods, always good. Looks like they've renovated some of the interior recently, everything looks brighter.

We had 4 different dishes for lunch today, wraps and sandwiches with chicken, turkey and ham. All the food was good and the price was reasonable. The service was exceptional, everybody were friendly and attentive, and the meals were served extremely quick.

The french toast was AMAZING. This was my first french toast experience and it definitely will not be the last! It totally lived up to the hype! I absolutely loved it. My boyfriend had the berry filled french toast and really enjoyed it, whilst I had the regular french toast with maple syrup - both were amazing. Definitely recommend. Waiters were also very nice. They served us with water as soon as we sat down, and kept refilling it throughout our stay - I always see this as a great sign of service as it shows care and attention.

Flame is a classic NY diner run by Greeks which is reflected in some of the menu items. Basic food nicely prepared and generous. The soup was obviously homemade. Nothing fancy here - just good and reliable. Check it out and sit by the window and watch 9th Ave go by!

Reasonably priced and the food is perfectly decent. Service is attentive. Lots of coffee and water refills. Good value for money. A Manhattan classic

Local diner for locals! Very American with the booths and simple decor but good service and very decent food. Nothing fancy but good and reasonably priced.

Traditional diner experience, plain and simple - no frills. Ate here on New Year's Day, it was busy but once you were seated and had a waiter appear you were set. My order got mixed up, but again they were slammed with customers. I was too hungry at that point to wait for what I actually ordered. Good: -Flame Omelette -Corned Beef Hash Benedict Bad: -I found out after I waited for it that the Corned Beef Hash Benedict was actually just scrambled eggs and hash (not poached egg over hash over a bun with Hollandaise sauce)

This 24 hr. all purpose NYC "coffee shop" is at Ninth Ave and 58th Street, near Mt. Sinai West (formerly Roosevelt) Hospital and Lincoln Center, six blocks north. It has a diverse menu of breakfasts, sandwiches, salads, dinner entrees and desserts; the food is good and the costs are reasonable. There is a full bar. Most of the seating is in booths. It is a good place before or after a show a Lincoln Center, away from crowds and outrageous prices. Another "The Flame" owned by family members operates at 44th St. near Sixth Avenue and the theater district.

Food was great, it was reasonably priced and coffee was kept topped up. The staff were courteous but not over friendly, they know when to leave you alone. It seemed to be used by locals as much as tourists.

It was nice diner in NYC. Recommended if you are around there for a fresh breakfast. I liked the egg Benedict!!!

The food was great! Service was too! Had the San Francisco Omelette and it was really good! The service was excellent! Everyone was so friendly!

Open 24 hours, and they have a little bit of everything. Seafood, pasta, some Asian stuff, omelettes, you name it. All of it is good, though you really come here for fast service and fair prices. This is a solid, hard-working diner that serves good portions. I like it.

Hearty breakfasts. Always a solid choice. It's very close to my usual hotel, which I stay at week(s) at a time. I visit here at least for one meal, typically breakfast. Staff is friendly and efficient.

Had a couple nice breakfasts here - just down the street from the Hudson Hotel. Good prices, ok coffee, hot entrees or grab and go.

Standard fare, not expensive. Fast, cheerful service. Servers have been here a while. Full lunch and dinner menu with Greek food influences.

This is our favourite diner in New York. The portions are large, very tasty and the place has a great atmosphere. The waiter was very attentive and friendly and always at hand to refill the coffee.

Dropped by on the basis of late night opening and we loved it, great food, freshly cooked and served with a smile. Warning- the portions are huge, I have a good appetite but never ate everything the sent. Roast pork loin - fabulous, Moussaka - yummy, breakfast was great. They also do everything to go so a meal in your room in front of the TV is an option. Good selection of wine too.

Went for breakfast on our last morning and wish we'd tried it before. Friendly staff and an extensive menu at reasonable city prices.

I took my Mother here on our trip to NY last week so she could experience a traditional American Diner. We weren’t disappointed. The place was spotlessly clean. The menu was substantial with plenty of choice. The prices were good and the staff were so friendly, polite and courteous. All in all it was an excellent meal and visit and really positive, enjoyable experience. This place is located a stones throw from Colombus Circle so if you live or are staying in that area of New York, then I’d definitely recommend this place. A special mention to our main waitress, Emely. She was absolutely fantastic. Really friendly and worth her weight in Gold to that Restaurant!! Thank you so much for a great meal and experience!!

We ate here twice as it had the ultimate American diner feel to it. Food was good, breakfast was a little overpriced we felt but it was good all the same. We felt we got more for our money at dinner. Burger was delicious. The waiting staff were friendly, the owner looking man however, was not. He didn't even speak to his staff nevermind his customers, just pointed at tables and plates. I felt sorry for his staff. ☹

I'm a big diner person and I visit The Flame on 44th Street on the Westside. While I don't expect superior meals, I was disappointed with the sandwich and limp fries. Another visit might be different. It is relatively close to Lincoln Center for a less expensive and quick meal.

Everytime we visit NYC and stay near Columbus circle we have breakfast the Flame. Service is always fast and food comes out fast too. Huge menu with what seems like too many options. Nice place for a quick breakfast of dinner also near Hell's Kitchen area.

American dinner open 24 hours a day, we were there twice and both times we ate well, friendly staff, excellent value for money

Varied diner menu. Reasonable prices, with nice touches like a complimentary glass of wine with dinner entrees. It's a New York experience but not a tourist attraction. Good food and service.

Diverse menu, solid food, large portions, affordable, and nice people. Had beef stoganoff it was great. Rueben was great. Corned beef and cabbage was great. Soups were fresh and good. Staff are effective and very quiet.

Food was nice, good mom and pops place frequented by the locals, drinks were cold staff were friendly, bit of the expensive side for what it is but that's it
Horrible Hamburger
The restaurant was packed. Busy. Food was unacceptable. Hamburger was dried out and burnt. Just not a good day for them there. Won't be going back. Really bad experience.
