In NYC, where there is no shortage of great greek restaurants, this place in Tribeca shines Amazing, delicious, authentic greek food Outstanding, personable service Terrific greek wine selection Very nice interior and location IMO #1 in NYC Highly recommend Alex

This restaurant is so good! The venue, the service and the food is incredible. I would recommend the spreads they serve with warm crispy bread - all the spreads are absolutely delicious. Also their Souvlaki and Bifteki are incredibly good. The staff are very helpful and warm and the restaurant is charming and comfortable. Prices are very reasonable. Absolutely a must visit if you are in New York.

We were advised that we couldn't book for 3 persons so we took a chance and although the restaurant was very busy we were squeezed on to a table. However, the owner, manager and staff were wonderful and made us feel both welcome and comfortable and the fact that the place was busy, created a great atmosphere. The food was traditional Greek and unbelievably tasty, the dips, breads and mixed grill is highly recommended. A great night out and we will definitely be back.

we enjoyed a fine dinner here after our Broadway matinee. had an assortment of appetizers which were excellent, really enjoyed the cheese balls. Entrees were fish, lamb shank and veal chops all were excellent, and desserts were huge and delicious. The atmosphere is dark and street front is not well marked.

Beautiful place, the service is really good . Nice music selection and of course the food trully tasteful.totally recomended !

The food was good but overpriced (even for NYC), portions are not very big, service was OK but really could have been better. There are other much better Greek options in NYC. We will not go back to this place.

Aside from other eateries where there was a standout dish I adored, this was the best meal I ate in new york. Every dish is well balanced and wholesome, with fantastic wines and service. the decor like the food is unassuming and authentic and you leave having eaten far more than you should with a big smile!

This is a really wonderful place ; busy but not noisy ; comfortable and with an incerdibly good menu. You MUST choose the moussaka, which is a real delight ; try first the appetisers : big choice and delicious. If you hesitate, take advice from the expert and pertinent waiters. The service is perfect.

Dear Tom and the Team, You are beyond amazing! Anyone who finds time to read this review or my Trip advisor review, you only need to know 3 things, 1. You have to meet the owner, Tom, he is the sweetest man and gives personal service. You won't find this service anywhere else. 2. Food is just mouth watering good! Despite being a picky eater and always looking for a good restaurant each year to celebrate a birthday, this is by far the best one! The lamb to the mixed grill was very flavorful! Trust me on the food part! The girls who were with me loved the Greek fries which were unique and very tasteful! Whatever it is you order, it will be filling and delicious with the freshest ingredients and their wine and beer and most liquors are imported from Greece! 3. You will not find a better team of people. It's the little things that they do for you when you are going for an event that makes it all, even more amazing! I will always have good memories and if anyone ever asks where to eat, this is the place. Not just for food but for the Team there! Tom, the host to our waiter. Thank you for an amazing experience. I am forever grateful. I will be back for lunch one of these days soon! Ευχαριστώ!!! :)

I wish I could give The Greek 0 stars. Stay clear from this place at ALL costs. Our evening started out great, celebrating my mother’s birthday. That changed drastically when I took a bite of the lentils and found a 2 INCH RUSTY SCREW in my food. I called the manager and she told me she’d look into this major health hazard. She returned to say she’d be happy to remove the lentils from our bill and give us a free dessert. Her response was a complete joke, furthermore, the manager of the Greek, Alexandra Tsutsufas, continued to explain that this screw did not belong to their kitchen equipment and that after looking at the security cameras it was not put their by a restaurant worker. She then accused me of putting the screw in the meal and demanded we pay the full bill and leave. I was completely shocked to be treated this way in a neighborhood restaurant, especially with the screw I just bit down on. Instead of acknowledging this major health hazard in their food or compensating the bill, I was accused of trying to get a free meal. I let the manager know that I would notify the department of health of this matter since it’s extremely dangerous. She pompously retorted the she wasn’t worried as her sister works there. The Greek managed this situation disgracefully and should be ashamed of themselves, not to mention be permanently closed. This seemed like a great family friendly restaurant and I was looking forward to bringing my child here, but after this experience I’m glad that I didn’t. Most importantly, I’m glad it wasn’t my child who bite into a screw. I will gladly continue to take business to my neighborhood favorites like Sushi of Gari, Tinys, Thallasa, Max, and Locanda Verde. In short, stay clear from this restaurant unless you want to be poorly treated and be able to build a closet in your apartment with all the hardware you’ll receive in your meal

The night we were there they had a duo playing Greek music. Fantastic. The food was excellent and authentic.. Definitely worth a try.

There was so much to like about The Greek. It had a nice neighborhood feel, you could tell the clientele were regulars and the staff recognized them. Unfortunately I was not a regular or local and kept getting skipped over to get a table. 10 minutes turned into almost 30 with no apologies or explanation. The food was probably better than it tasted after a not so great experience.

Cute neighborhood gem, a bit obscured by the construction fence next door. I've been here twice, both positive experiences. Busy and fun atmosphere, reservations usually required for evening. Service is great even when busy, although the bartender was more intent on doing a show for the single ladies at the bar. Good variety of Greek food on menu, fish and options were great. Definitely will return.

Had a lovely lunch here on a walk around TriBeCa. The staff were well informed and attentive. Meal was great to share with my husband. Excellent flavours, would certainly recommend and visit again.

What a gem, unlike the high-end midtown Greek restaurants, The Greek in Tribeca is a true country Greek dining experience. From its subtle yet authentic Greek countryside decor, to the variety of Greek countryside dishes, you will be in for a treat as you dine in country-style.

This is a really good Greek place in TriBeCa. We stayed at a hotel down the road and walked here. The outside is very deceiving because it looks like a small little quiet home, but when you get inside it's a different story. You are greeted with warm sangria to warm you up, we went in December. They don't take reservations unless it's a group of 4 or more, but the place was packed and we only had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. The decor and music were amazing. And the food and drinks were even better. The prices are on the higher side for Greek food, but most good restaurants in NYC are. We started with the sampler and split a Greek salad, but were amazing. We also split the half chicken main course, which was cooked perfectly. I have to say we didn't leave stuffed but were satisfied. I would definitely come back next time I'm in NYC.

Tom Gallis and his team showed us a tremendous time! Very cool decor, great service by Yianni and Demetrios behind the bar, but the food was the highlight. Feta appetizer was tremendous; had too many others to mention and all were good. I had the lamb chops and they were cooked perfectly. Had veggies with feta which were finished quickly. Great Greek wine selection too. I will be back next time I am in New York City.

Not even a block away from by bed is hidden the best Greek Restaurant in NYC. Traditional to a fault, even the accents fit. Great Greek wine selection pared with food that brings me back to the Islands. Go there you will not regret. (Hi Sister)

Had a truly amazing meal in super surroundings! This restaurant is a real gem away from the hustle and bustle of central Manhattan. Excellent food and great service.

Fantastic Greek food in downtown Manhattan, Tribeca. Worth a trip from further North! Mezza excellent and deserts sublime.

Dinner for two on a Saturday eve. Initially quite empty, filled quickly. Wines limited to a few Greek varieties. Shared a delicious spread selection (4) - but very skimpy on the accompanying bread. Meal choices very limited, quite expensive, quality good. Service efficient. Would not want to venture here again - many other local choices.

This popular restaurant is bustling. It took a while to be seated at our table and the bar was a bit cozy but the bartender took good care of us. Don't miss the Greek wine - an upside surprise for this picky princess. Don't be in a hurry and don't expect a quiet chat - but it's fun and alive and the quality of the food and drinks made it all worth while.

I like this place. It's hard to find decent Greek restaurants in Manhatten. Most of them are totally overpriced and/or not really authentic. This place is different. It's like stepping into someone's home. Maybe it's because the manager/owner took some time to treat us like his personal guests. He explained the different open Greek wines on the menu and really guided us well through the experience. It's also a very cozy spot, very warm and comfy, not like these big mid town Greeks. The food was very good, just simple well executed Greek standards. We will return soon. A true neighborhood gem.

My husband and I visited the Greek TriBeCa and we were so glad that we did. The food was beautiful and the service was fantastic, to start we shared a range dips and bread followed by the filo cheese and spinach parcels, and a pork dish. We felt that the portion sizes were large and a couple could easily share one of the dishes. For our mains my husband had the moussaka and I had the lamb, our only regret is that we couldn't eat all our food as were were quite full from our mezze starters. The moussaka was mouthwatering! The atmosphere was lovely and we would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Without a doubt this was the best meal we had whilst in NYC!

Had a very enjoyable dinner with friends and lots of good food. Appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. We shared the beets, a spread assortment and very tasty octopus. The fish and lamb entrees were good. Enjoyed a bottle of Greek red wine. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff very attentive with no rushing. And while I know it's a NYC restaurant the thing that lowered my overall enjoyment was the bill, which was with tip a hefty $350 for four. A bit too pricy considering portion sizes and fairly standard Greek food. It was worth trying once though.

Beautiful and clean interior. Wonderful, healthy, fresh and tasty food options. Place is perfect for groups or a date night! I can wait to come back!!!!

As a guest I felt like I was a member of a large Greek family. The food is traditional Greek with a pizza for children and a chocolate souffle for dessert.

Four of us visiting NY on return from Portugal. Greek food sounded like a good change of pace and The Greek had good reviews. Called to book and was advised a table was available but we would have to put a deposit down. Really? OK, it's NYC and it was a busy Saturday night. I get it, but I don't like it and it is a bit off putting before you even get to the restaurant. But, we agreed and booked. Found the menu to be fairly short, but quite diverse. Can't say the same for the Wine List, which was short and overpriced for what you were getting. Opted for Greek Beer, which was nice, but also overpriced. Food was good and service was prompt, but not overly friendly. Left with mixed feelings. Did not like the deposit for reservation. Really cool decor and feeling in the restaurant. Good overall food selection that was prepared well. Felt everything was overpriced a bit, and I am not cheap! Wine list needs help. Adequate but not overly great service. Biggest disappointment was that most Greek restaurants are fun and relaxed. This location was a bit uptight and too serious. Don't want to suggest you don't try, but won't be a "go back" for me.

We loved the appetizers. The fried feta cheese and the beet salad were to die for. I wasn't crazy about the moussaka, but luckily had filled up on the appetizers. Truly the best I've eaten

We really enjoy this Greek restaurant recommended to us by someone late at night in the street as one of her favorite in the area. Our other friend the next day concurred when we walk by so it was unanimous. Food was delicious and super nice staff made for a pleasant experience.

Very romantically decorated, with a lovely staff and beautiful bar just as you come in. I went in for lunch and certainly think I couldn’t have made a better choice. Check the greek salad! Just amazing!

We had the 4-spread selection as an appetizer and it was the best of the dishes we had, so no matter what you select afterwards, do the spread: tzatziki (cucumber sauce frequently found on gyros), tarama (perfectly balanced white roe),tirokafteri (cheese spread), melitzanosalata (eggplant). A plentiful serving, enough for 3-4. The primary reason we stopped here was on account of a Bobby flay recommendation for the garides saganaki, a shrimp with tomato and cheese dish. Excellent. Their mousaka was delish but too rich to eat alone. Luckily we shared everything. This night, they had a red snapper (whole) special and that was the best dish outside of the spread. Best red snapper dish I've ever had, and this variety of fish is not a favorite. The teamwork service matched the excellence of the food. Brilliant service.

A group of us made a weekday visit, and were constantly attended to throughout the duration of our meal. Food was really tasty and well-presented, with interesting cocktails on offer. Massive bonus was that they have vegan options.

Please avoid this restaurant. We waited over an hour for our food to come out. Once it came out we could not even eat it - it was horrible. We left. So many other restaurants to try

I was visiting NYC and my friend suggested stopping by The Greek for an early dinner. We shared a bottle of white greek wine, some greek olives, a village salad, fakes and the grilled octopus. Brought back memories of Mykonos. Very good and authentic.

If you are like me and over 50 (actually over 60), sit in the back where it is less noisy. Regardless, the food is inventive and great. We had the assorted Greek appetizers (hummus, Baba genouche, etc.); they were delicious and not standard fare. Two seafood entrées were very good. Roasted potatoes, fried veggies and other sides good too.

Our friends who live in the neighborhood, recommended for a bunch of us to meet there. They really liked this neighborhood place. We were a group of 9 people. The place was very busy on a cold Friday night. It's an attractive place but can get very noisy if you sit next to a big table with rowdy people. The food was very good. However, we had the waiter from hell!!! Rude to the point that it became comical! At one point the owner, or manager, came over to undo the damage. Price wise, it's not a bargain. I guess it's ok for the neighborhood. Will not be a destination for most of our group.

The Greek Tribeca is where I come when I’m missing Greece and craving authentic Greek food. The ambience is beautiful whether you choose to go in the daytime or at night, the service is also great as well. I love the uniforms the staff wears. They have a great selection of Greek wine and beer as well. I would recommend trying everything I have because it’s all so delicious

Party of five with two Greeks, and three others who have travelled a lot in Greece. To those who say this isn't authentic Greek food, I would say that Greece has a lot of variety throughout its mainland and islands. What you eat on one island may be prepared totally differently on its neighbour. So we had a big selection of starters to share including dips (excellent tarama), octopus (really tasty), spanakopita (lovely - my favourite), and keftedes. I shared a mixed grill with a friend. The chicken souvlaki was slightly dry but the lamb chops were absolutely perfect. Biggest problem is that the portions are huge and none of finished everything we were given. There was a large party next to us and the noise level was high. Wine list has some very good wines at reasonable prices. The service was nicely paced. Definitely going back.

Basically, I found this restaurant as good, not great. The Yelp reviews are excellent, but I'm not sure why. The food was not authentic. Best authentic Greek food is in Astoria queens. The atmosphere was very nice and warm, so I have to give them that credit. The host who greeted us was very nice and sincere. I ordered the short rib, which was very good. The spinach pies were bland and needed salt. I do like to have a beer during dinner and the waitress did not bring it until dinner was finished, so when she came around with my beer, I had to tell her forget it. Something so simple did put a damper on the dinner. I was hoping for a better experience since it was our 3rd anniversary dinner.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere had a romantic feel. We ordered some dishes to share and all were tasty. The service was unbelievable. Superb! Favourite restaurant in New York!

Very interesting menu, lots of authentic greek food done right. I had the avgo sto fourno which was amazing. My wife had a salad with souvlaki (also a great simple dish). We had the gigantes for an appetizer which almost had us both full along with the warm pita. A little pricey (could that be due to the copious amounts of lunch time alcohol... perhaps) but well worth a visit. The service is very high quality, unobtrusive and very helpful.

Always eager to enjoy refined, origin-true Greek food, I noticed The Greek in the 2014 Michelin Guide and stopped by for dinner at the bar. Right away I was impressed by the service. Too many restaurants all but ignore women dining alone, but this was certainly not the case here. When I commented that I'd never seen an extensive, all-Greek wine list in the US, Tom (the owner) enthusiastically explained the restaurant's sourcing philosophy and invited me to taste a couple selections. Diners can easily make a meal of the tasty hot and cold mezdes (small dishes) and sides (with lots of choices for vegetarians), or order entree-sized plates of carefully prepared seafood, chicken, beef, or lamb. As my meal came to an end, Tom offered me a piece of the house's not-too-sweet loukoum - the best I've ever tasted. I'll definitely make it a point to visit The Greek every time I'm in NYC.

This is a gem in the neighborhood. The best part of this authentic Greek Restaurant is the consistent and excellent service and true neighborhood feel. The kumato salad is fantastic - The meatballs are excellent. Great for drinks or dinner (alone or in company). The owner Tom is the real deal and the team is excellent. Guaranteed a good experience.

Busy but not too noisy, we came here on the recommendation of a hotel concierge nearby. Appetizers of grilled shrimp, a fried feta (no saganaki on the menu, so they pressed feta into a cake and fried it, giving it a wonderful crust--delicious), and "fava," which is what the Greek call a porridge made from yellow split peas. Usually served warm, the fava was served cold, but was absolutely delicious, bringing me back to Santorini where we've had that dish dozens of times. My entree of a grilled red snapper was wonderful. A properly-made Manhattan (Blanton's, Antica Fromula, Luxardo cherry) made this cocktail snob very happy. A very pleasant experience!

We went to the Greek Tribeca for lunch on 1/11/14. We ordered several small plates (Mezedakia Zesta) that were split amongst the four of us. Each one was EXCELLENT. We were asked if we had a preference for the order in which the food came; we told our server we did not. As a result the cold small plates came out first, which was fine by us. We arrived at approximately 12, when they open. I will say that our server's attention toward us declined substantially as the restaurant became more crowded. He seemed flustered. I was willing to accept the decline in service as we REALLY enjoyed the food. I will say something we did not enjoy: there were several families visiting the restaurant while we dined. The children were permitted to literally run the length of the small establishment. In addition, as we exited we literally were stepping on their toys at the door - I suggest the Management ask that kids NOT leave toys in front of the door as patrons enter & exit.

I visited the Greek with my boyfriend. From arriving at the door the service was excellent, the ambience too! It's a great vibe chilled and comfy and the hosts make you feel right at home. In terms of food we had the meatballs with potatoes and my boyfriend ate the Souvlaki chicken skewers. The food was excellent! For a side dish they also gave us a bean dip which was great! We will definitely be back when we're next in New York! And would certainly recommend!

We went here on a Thursday night and this was one on the best meals I have ever had. It is clear that they use only the best ingredients and pay attention to the fine details of preparation. We tried a broad range of their offerings. From the spicy feta dip (outstanding), to the Greek salad, to the fish, to the mixed grill; all were superb. They paired this all with wonderful Greek wines. The prices aren't cheap but they are less than many other "fine restaurants" in New York City. We will be going here every time we visit New York City.

Tip: if you go here with your family on a Sunday or holiday night, lower all expectations for the restaurant is a veritable crèche. Tip: Do not expect-any questions to be answered from the po faced staff. Example: Well how is the sea bass prepared? ( yawn) Its very good. Tip: do not expect any level of service or expect staff to pay attention. Example. Please bring all our food out at the same time. Result. 4 adults waiting around for nearly an hour after the kids had finished. Tip: Do not expect to be served what you ordered. Result. 2 vegetarians who had ordered the vegetarian moussaka were served a huge plate of lamb under potatoes. Final tip: don’t even say anything to the manager, he will just argue with you till the cows come home. A dire experience.

We arrived at this place after ask a person in yhe street and he suggested us this place. Amazing warm restaurant, friendly staff, "speakeasy cocktail" and good food...

I went to The Greek twice in the past couple of months for lunch. Once for business and the last time with a friend. Had fantastic service and good food both times. It is crowded but the sound control is well done, you can easily talk and hear people that are seated at you table. The Manager and the young lady who helps him are both amazingly polite and welcoming. I asked for some advise on what to order. She listened carefully to our tastes and recommended the cheese puffs with honey and the fish of the day. Loved both and decided that wasn't the day to start a diet! The decor is chic authentic. Check out the bathroom, it is very cute. The fresh flowers, smells and the decor, make you feel that you are on vacation in Europe.

This place is like one of your favorite record albums where you love every song because they hit it out of the ball park. Every single dish we had here was terrific and some were sublime. Starting out with the spread, the crisp bread was perfect with the best tzatsiki sauce we have ever had. The salad was quite possibly the best Greek salad as well; the feta cheese was perfect and it was all fresh and crisp. We also enjoyed the mixed grill and the highlight was the lamb chops which were sublime. The artichoke moussaka really transcended any moussaka we have ever had. We also enjoyed the lamb guvetsi and the octupus and the chicken dish. We had a party of 6 and our delight in the dining experience was unanimous. Every plate was finished clean. The desserts were lovely as well; we enjoyed the feta cheesecake, baklava and chocolate cake. The service was fantastic and the waiter really selected everything for us and clearly succeeded in making a great impression. No trip to NY can occur without coming here for a meal for me in the future!

Food was good, only problem was that I found two metal pieces into the sausages I was eating. This did not cause a price reduction.

Stumbled across this place while walking around the area. WOW, what a place. Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Probably the best restaurant I have been in NY.

What a cute, cozy restaurant. The food and drinks are excellent! Friendly bartendress. Xanthi gave us an excellent table and superb service! The food is authentic and flavorful!

The food oozed comfort. The staff were unusually attentive and patient. The place was packed on a mid-week evening. Our party was a walk in, and we dallied over dinner. Eventually, our waiter offered us a drink at the bar in exchange for the table… the nicest way I’ve ever been moved on.

The Greek, amazing place to have dinner. The food, service and environment is awesome. We tasted some good familiar foods, that brought us back to Greece. I couldn't get enough of the Ouzo

The lamb chops were really good with great spices and flavors. The octopus is great but wish it was bigger and more octopus. The decor is old and rustic and you would think this place was here since the 1900s. Service is terrific though I initially wanted a table but was not given one despite a relatively empty Sunday and so had to settle for the bar which is not bad if there were back rests on the stools. In all, not a bad meal though for better bang for the buck, I would go to the Chinese place around the corner.

Very welcoming. Nice staff. Nice menu where you can see what's glutenfree, vegetarian etc. Very nice veggie appetizers. Reasonable prices (for NY). The moussaka is the best I have tried.

This place has a very nice atmosphere and, more importantly, great food at its price point. Friendly staff and great quality ingredients (makes a huge difference). Really, really tasty and very well priced. I would happily come back here to try other things on the menu- which is saying something given all the places to try in NYC. The white wine was good too. Ps. Their homemade bread and the olive oil they give you are 👌🏼

Friendly waiter who patiently explained the dishes. Excellently prepared - delicious. Comfortable setting, neighborhood favorite rather than touristy (even though we were tourists!)

We wanted Greek food, and The Greek was a short walk from our hotel. What luck! First -- it is beautiful. Beautifully furnished, beautifully lit, and great ambiance. Very comfortable seating. Second -- the food was delicious. We shared a really good Greek Salad (the kind with cut up cukes and vegetables, not lettuce, and topped with a lovely slice of excellent feta, not some random crumbles. We also had the grill (lamb chops, sausage, meat patty, chicken kabobs, greek potatoes) delivered in a cast iron skillet with a wisp of smoking sage. Easily fed 3 of us. The dolmades were warm and wonderful -- not at all the little ones you see cold in salad bars. Third -- nice staff. We didn't drink that night, but the bar looked to have a wide and interesting selection on wines and spirits from different regions of Greece.

My son told me that this was a good place and so looked forward to the evening. Unfortunately, things did not pan out due to: rude and indifferent service, lack luster food (with the exception of the octopus appetizer which was delicious, rude hostess, and lack of attention to our order (our entree was delayed almost one hour). Frankly, neither the food nor the service is deserving of a repeat visit and I recommend you consider other options.

Terrible service ruining a delicious meal. Not the same experience when Daphne and Tom are not around.

My clients and I were around the corner at a meeting and I looked at the Google map to find a place to take them for lunch. The Greek showed up on the map so we walked over. There were 6 of us. They were very welcoming and sat us a great round table so we could all see each other and talk. The atmosphere in there is wonderful and believe it or not, the bathroom is really cool! Meanwhile, we ordered the plate of dips, which were all delicious. Then came the meatballs, which were so incredibly tasty in a wonderful marinara sauce. The Greek salad was wonderful and not too big with a nice big slab of feta on top. Great dressing. Several of us shared chicken kabobs, which were very tasty. Maybe a tiny bit overcooked, but very tasty. The chips were delicious. So was the rice. Everything was tasty and wonderful and I'd come back here in a second. Everyone in the group loved the place. And by the way, one of the owners was always checking on us to make sure we were happy and gave us these amazing chocolates as a nice meal ender. Really terrific place.

We went there for a causal dinner the other night and to our surprise, the food was really good. The chilled octopus was so so but the Greek salad was very good. The souvlaki was excellent and most of all their bread was one of the best we ever had. The services were great and we were always being taken care of with a smile. Funky little place for sure!

The menu is exotic and the service is excellent but neither are contrived. As if they didn’t have to try because they already are...elegant.

Charming, warm, rustic and quaint atmosphere with exceptional wait staff. Started with a spicy/hot cocktail that my daughter had a different time and highly recommended. Was way too hot and they immediately prepared another one that was less hot. Got it right and was very yummy and refreshing. My friend got the meatballs, daughter got a feta cheese vegetarian dish, and I got a chicken dish. All were excellently prepared and delicious. Recommend!

We had a great evening at this restaurant just around the corner from our hotel. Took the advice of staff on wine, and food and were very happy with everything. A cold Mythos beer to start, rose and red wine, village salad, fried feta with honey, lamb chops, lamb shank and beautiful feta cheesecake. Lovely designed restaurant, great staff, a very good choice for an evening out.

The wine list was exclusively Greek though divided by region. Pricey, though; no bottle of red less than $59, or glass less than $14. The service was excellent, by Greek natives, and the owner was cordial. The food was unexciting, though, and the music coming from speakers in back was jarring and, given the din of voices and clatter of dishes, unhelpful in allowing conversation.

Visited on Christmas Eve with a group of 6. Great food with live entertainment and dancing. Fabulous lamb and the best taramasalata. My only criticism would be the limited wine list and crazy prices for mediocre wine. Would definitely return.

Family dinner on Sunday night. Atmosphere great with live music which was just the right volume- not too loud so we could still speak at the table. Lovely meze with best cheese croquettes ever. Mixed grill (x2)fed the five of us. Followed by feta cheesecake and Greek coffee. Great selection of Greek wines. Service, atmosphere, welcome: everything superb. Will definitely go again when in NYC.

I was at the Greek last Saturday night with two friends for my birthday. I was so disappointed that the 5 star rating let me down. My 2 star rating is based on service and food. The decor of the restaurant is extremely beautiful and we sat on a nice comfy couch...the evening was off to a good start... We were sat with no menus for a little bit but it was a really busy night so I understood. Finally our waiter with glasses who introduced himself as a number comes over. We told him we needed help with wine and he said he had to help 2 other tables select wine. He told us that when he was done he would come over and let us try a couple wines before deciding. Great! 10 minutes pass and another waiter brings over 3 full glasses of wine. We tried the wine but it wasn't what we were looking for. The number named waiter came over to take our food order. We mentioned we didn't order that particular wine and he assured us we did. Ok, not a big deal...we didn't feel the need to complain, and just kept the wine. Our food finally came. We ordered octopus, 2 orders of meatballs, and the mixed grill entre. The mixed grill was ok...the sausage and chicken screwers were dry and overcooked. We only got 1 order of meatballs and the octopus was the worst I've ever had. The octopus was very rubbery and chewy, and also had that spoiled fish smell. We called the number named waiter over to tell him about the octopus...he asked us "Do any of you have experience eating octopus?". What kind of question is that??? The octupus was not fresh. He took it back to the kitchen and off the bill. Last but not least for dessert we ordered a chocolate cake. The cake was brittle and didn't have much flavor. Honestly chocolate cake from a duane reade cake mix was better. Because of the poor service and the octopus the number named waiter apologized he asked if he could treat us to a small glass of a greek dessert wine...which was very nice. After 15 minutes an older gentleman who might have been the owner gave us the bill and thanked us. Okay...maybe the dessert wine was coming? The number named waiter came over to get the credit card...we reminded him to take the 2nd order of meatballs off the bill that we never received. He quickly adjusted the bill and thanked us. That greek dessert wine did SOUND good. Save your Saturday night and go to one of the better restaurants Tribeca has to offer.

Dimly lit rustic atmosphere. Beautifully prepared Greek food that was superb in flavor and quality. My avgolemono soup was the perfect warm-up after running around Lower Manhattan in cold rain and the potatoes rounded out my need for "comfort food". The taste and texture of the bread reminded me of a meal I had at the Temple of Poseidon. Absolutely delicious!

Fantastic wine and drinks. This is a neighborhood go to for drinks, and any meal. Brunch is amazing, and a great value for the size of the portions.

I don't even care for greek food yet this was one of the best meals i have had in a long time and I highly recommend it. It is located in such a cool and quaint area and the food and atmosphere are so great. Definitely have the soup and the lentils.

I went her with my family this weekend and wasn't disappointed in any way. Very nice atmosphere and impeccable service. For dinner, I ordered the horiatiki salad and shared the mixed grill entree with my dad. Many gluten-free options for someone like me. Good portion sizes. Food was well seasoned and authentic. Great location as well; close to water and in nice neighborhood. Was a little pricey but excellent.

One of our favorites in NYC, the food is delicious and authentic, and the staff is wonderful. We've come here many times, as it's our go-to guaranteed delicious meal. We can't recommend the place highly enough. The warm dolmades (yes, they should be served warm if they are authentic!) and the bougatsa (a pastry and ice cream dessert) are the best I've ever had, and their flatbread and spreads are a wonderful side to every meal.

Love this place! Respectfully, contrary to other reviews I read on here regarding the staff, they're actually incredible. I was there several times in the past couple of weeks and can honestly say that they've been consistently professional and polite. Perhaps there has been a recent change in the past month or so? Peter, who usually is the first to greet us, is always an absolute joy. He always makes us laugh, makes us feel welcome and goes out of his way to make sure our evening is fantastic from beginning to end. The restaurant itself is beautiful. It has a tremendous vibe, a fantastic decor, live soft music once a week and the food is simply delicious! I can't wait until I go back this week with friends who have also been there and love it as well.

Decor is casual but upscale, service is awesome. Have eaten here earlier this year but most recent visit was just for drinks. Really great fish options and appetizers. Good Greek wine selections

(There were five of us in the party) The food was absolutely above average. The musakah was burnt on the bottom... but the lamb chops and the sardines were to die for. The wine list (we had 3 bottles) was, again, above average... but incredibly expensive. One bottle was $120, the other two around $80. And none of them tasted better than a good quality solid sauvignon blanc. And you might ask, why would you buy such an expensive bottle?! The answer is... that was the LOW END of their wine list. Dream on if you needed more bread for their different yummy spreads. They brought a bucket of bread (toasted pita) for our table of 5... but in order to get a second order of bread, after 20 minutes of waiting, I had to pull over our server and tell him, "I don't care if you steal it off someone's table... get us more bread!" 2 minutes later we had bread. The quality of the meal was very good. The service was lame on a level that they should be ashamed. All the goodwill and friendliness is fine... but TAKE CARE OF ME. Bring things out in a timely manner! Communicate what's going on! Refill our glasses of water... (obvious stuff) Don't make me sit there like an idiot for 45 minutes and make me ask where my entre is???! And finally, if you're going to stick us in the WAY WAY WAY BACK (right next to the bathrooms), and we're going to spend $700+ with tip for 5 people---TAKE CARE OF US!!! NO ONE CARED. NO ONE MADE IT THEIR JOB TO CARE. It seemed like there was no manager on duty. (They were all anxious and yelling in the vestebule next to us by the bathroom). This place was recommended to me by Conde Nast as some place special. I will be telling it to pull it off their list. It will NOT be in their magazine over my dead body. The food is very good. The wait staff, while good intentioned, sucked so badly I say, "don't go!". And finally, a note to the mangers and owners: if you're going to try and build a restaurant that is supposed to be outstanding... TRAIN EMPOLYEES to treat the customers like their important. Such a disappointment for the money spent... I already regret it.

The Greek was crowded and busy but we were able to sit at the bar as we awaited our table. The food was very good and the waiter was helpful and attentive. Overall, it was a wonderful evening. Although the restaurant was crowded and noisy, we were able to hear one another and enjoy our conversation.

I grew up eating authentic Greek food. This was divine! And packed, so I was not alone in this assessment.

We came on a local recommendation - I expected a gyro and Greek salad spot. Actually, it was way more upscale with much more sophisticated fare. A vibrant and active dining room , excellent food and service. We'd be happy to return.

This is a very nice restaurant with amazing food , also the owner and the employees are so friendly! I can feel that this restaurant is made but heart and love for what they love ! All bless

The place is outstanding! Food was excellent and the atmosphere of the place was fantastic. Great place for a night in the city.

The first time and second time, I loved this restaurant. Great drinks, interesting dishes. But by the third or fourth visit, I was ready to give it a rest. But I imagine I will be back after a few months time has elapsed and maybe there will be some new dishes.

The bartender took me under his wing when I inquired about Ouzo and Greek wines. Both good. The food was great. Greek salad unique and very tasty. The chicken kebob was wonderful. Only problem is they were busy with a couple of big parties and the service was friendly but slow.

We came across this inviting Greek Taverna walking North from the World Trade Center towards Canal Street around lunch time. We ordered several hot and cold appetizers from the interesting menu and enjoyed the variety of authentic flavors and outstanding presentation. Nothing touristy about this place. The texture of the warm dolmades left no doubt they were hand rolled. My favorite was the grilled octopus and tomato braised lentils. The service was outstanding and friendly. We were so impressed we returned the next evening with our son for dinner and were not disappointed.

Just visited with my wife and teenage children. This quality restaurant is rather inconspicuous along Greenwich Street. However the atmosphere is lively and the food excellent. The Greek was almost full, even midweek. We enjoyed some of the spreads on flatbread to start. These were delicious and authentically flavoured. The mains were equally good and filling. The grilled meats were done to a tee and scallops were soft and full of flavour. My daughter had the moussaka and rated it one of the best ever. The service was attentive and polite. Overall the Greek offers excellent food and a bustling atmosphere at a fair price.

Highly recommended. Great service, tasty food, lively atmosphere that doesn't cramp your table conversation. We had a group of 12 plus a 17 month old baby. The baby fell asleep while we waited for appetizers, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate the stroller in their space close to us. The service was top-notch; the sharply dressed waiters were as attentive to our needs as they were to looking like Anthony Quinn as a young Greek. As a large group, we pre-selected our apps; be careful not ruin your entree by overeating the scrumptious yoghurt spreads. The salad selections were tasty. The grilled octopus had a nice vinegar taste. As an entree, the sea bass was perfect, on a bed of lentils as good as my mother makes them. Regret that we were too full to taste their truly Greek desserts.

Had a late night dinner for 4. Used staff recommendations for both food and wine. All 4 meals were very good to excellent. Enjoyed the pork belly the most. Big portions. Had no room for dessert. A little wait after our reservation time, but a round of ouzo on the house was a fair tradeoff. You can't go wrong with this restaurant.

Back again, and had another fine meal. Tried both soups, avgolemono and lentils, which are a generous cup and with some warm, spiced pita quarters (you should order some extra pita for this, and the mains). Followed by a vegetarian moussaka, a large portion in a crock. One order of the turkey, which comes as large nuggets in a tomato-based sauce (extra pita useful). An order to share of spanakopita. Staff friendly and helpful. A very comfortable place to chat, or just to chill over a satisfying meal.

We just returned from a two week vacation in Greece and decided to try this restaurant which had good reviews. It is a pretty place in a quiet TriBeCa location. The service was nice and not pretentious. The menu is fine and authentic but not extraordinary. The prices however were unreasonably high for fairly basic dishes. The preparation was not at all special and the entrees suffered from unnecessary extra spices which distracted from the flavor of the fish and meats.

Stop. Just stop looking. This is it. The best Greek restaurant in Manhattan. The food is fresh and insanely tasty. Everything tastes like it was made by a Greek grandmotherly cooking on the Olympics, and she’s going for Gold, damnit. With every dish my friend and I were like “Wait, can you bring more of this? Keep it coming!” It would be like cruising in a luxurious but homey yacht through the Greek Isles. You have 10 islands to stop at, but each one you’re like No, I’m not leaving. I’m going to grow only and die on this island, the best place I’ve ever been. I was hesitant to write this review, honestly. I want it to be popular, but not so slammed that I can’t get in when I return with my wife. And frankly I’m a little hesitant about taking my wife. I say this as a very talented home chef. I make her very happy. I want to keep making her happy. The last thing I want is her saying, “This is good, sure, but it’s not The Greek.”

I'm no expert on the nuances of Greek culture/cuisine, but upon entering the restaurant and gazing at the beautifully decorated pergolas, I knew that I was in for an authentic experience. I was immediately captivated by the smell of a familiar herb (which I still can't put my finger on) and then understood why this sensation was happening as my stare suddenly shifted to a gentleman carrying a platter of various grilled meats vegetables garnished with a live-burning herb/dried vegetation of some sort throughout the restaurant. Ambience: the music was at a perfect volume (not too loud where you can't hear one another talk, but not too soft where the restaurant is just filled with the sounds of various people talking), the lighting was perfect for an evening date, and the smells were all enticing. Service: very prompt and attentive, a majority of the staff seemed to be of Greek heritage which added to the authenticity of the restaurant. Food: delicious. Ask for the blistered peppers even if they aren't on the menu. Can't say enough about them other than it's a beautiful balance saltiness mixed with acidity. The mousaka was also excellent - such a comfort food. It's also a lot of food which makes for great leftovers. I actually enjoyed the mousaka even more the next day at work for lunch! The flavors seemed to meld even more in my refrigerator. Also, the Greek fries are a must for a side dish. I consider myself to be a potato connoisseur and this potato dish is definitely one of my top favorites of any potato dish. Some of the handcut "chips" were thin and crunchy and others had a thicker cut with more of a bite. The variety in textures was a welcome surprise and delight! My date had the lamb chops and boy oh boy were those fun to eat! Not too game-y and just the right amount of seasoning to flavorfully transport you to the Mediterranean. We ended with the feta cheesecake and it was such a nice light, yes you read that correctly - light, way to end a fantastic meal. Feta and cheesecake might not sound like the most fitting of pairings, but it works just nicely. Would I come back here? Yes. Should you come here? Yes.

Visited a few months back, and had a really nice lunch. Service was super, food tasty and unpretentious. Good greek dishes done well. Portions are generous, you won't go hungry! Would visit again.

What a great experience we had here! The food, the flavor, the service, the people, the music, thé ambience!!!! Fantastic! We highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. Thank you to all your staff and the owner Tom for the hospitality!

We visited The Greek recently and had a mixed experience. While to food was truly exceptional and well priced, we waited 30 minutes after being seated to place our order and it did not get better from there. Every interaction with our waiter (getting another round of drinks, getting the check etc) took far too long which resulted in a simple meal for three people taking 3 hours. I hope that it was an off night for them (in all fairness, it was pretty full) as I plan to give them another chance based on the quality of the food.

Lovely. Great service, lovely food and great atmosphere. This is one of those restaurants you put into your book and promise you will go back to.

I was with a large party of people for dinner. Food and service was superb! I had the New Zealand lamb with the Greek fries which were gorgeous. The staff went above and beyond to look after us. Met the manager and he was lovely, to ensure that we weren't left waiting for food he had brought in extra staff for a shift for our group.

I love the atmosphere of the Greek. It is cozy and lively. Great cocktails and food selection as well.

I love this place. It's up there with Locanda Verde and Marc Forgione for me. We stumbled across it when looking for a local brunch spot and it was perfect. Great food, service, jazz music and amazing decor. They also gave complimentary Fava dip and dark chocolate at the end of our meal. So good it warranted my first review of a restaurant.

We loved it! Sitting at a high table in view of the bar we could savour not only great Greek dishes but also the refined atmosphere: nice set up, cozy decor and excellent real Greek food, with a contemporary twist. A place we will visit again!

The food was exceptional, from the salad, to the spinach pie, to the shrimp, everything was delicious! Our waiter guided us to excellent choices and we totally enjoyed our meal.

As a native Greek myself living in New York I was surprisingly amazed with this restaurant in beautiful Tribeca. Great decor, excellent service with a wide Greek wine selection and a memorable Daphne cocktail prepared me for a great meal! The portions are big while the price is very reasonable. Can't wait to try more!

Have had lunch here twice. Service is wonderful. Very good value; you can eat here on a budget. The bar is very nice, and all the food authentic and tasty. As a starter, the Greek spreads (Taramasalata, Tzatziki, etc.) are great value and very tasty; for lunch the Greek sandwich is HUGE. Also a nice Bar to hang out after work. Issac was my server and was perfect.

On a business lunch today great Greek Salads, plate with spicy feta, crab dip, eggplant and yogurt with breads. Also big beans in a sauce- delicious. Small restaurant but deep lots of seating and a bar.

I passed my first night in nyc but was too busy and i couldn't even order a drink from the bar.The next day after of my session in tribeca film festival i passed and i was able to enjoy great greek dishes and amazing cocktail with tsipouro.

After staying near the crowded Times Square area, it was so nice to visit these very quiet neighborhood streets and find this restaurant. A local took us here, and it was wonderful. It has a dark, warm, and inviting decor. The food is truly traditional, and not just the dishes you see in all the Americanized Greek restaurants. Everything was delicious. The prices were a little high, but certainly not out of line with other restaurants in New York. My only disappointment was a cocktail that the waiter recommended that was too lemony, but it did have lemon in the description, so I was forewarned. Other cocktails were very good. The waiters were attentive and their food recommendations were excellent.

Very good food and very friendly people, my 1st time eating at a Greek restaurant and I love it, must go

My wife and I found this off the beaten path when walking around Tribeca one weekend morning. Very Authentic, great service staff and food. Seems like a fun place in the evening - so guess we will be on an evening walk, next time in NYC. Worth the visit if in this "neck of the woods".
wow, we did not expect this....
We thought this would be just a nice neighborhood spot near our hotel, and we did not look for a big meal. Well, that was not what happened. Good selection of wines. There was an herbal tea from a Greek recipe. A very generous Greek salad with halloumi cheese. Fabulous avgolemono soup with a vegetable base, not traditional but delicious. I had the lentil soup, also really generous portion and with a slight kick from some hot pepper. The spreads with veggies and pita were unusual and a treat. Also we had orders of spanakopita, which were huge and different, not greasy, totally tasty. Finally, Greek coffee and a huge piece of really delicious baklava. The food here has so many unique characters. The recipes are from the owners' family through two generations, reflecting tastes of the Greek north. A treat.
