Great Weekend Brunch

By Jawknee |

Our first family meal out in Manhattan and the Grey Dog was a great choice. A busy Saturday for brunch and it can often be difficult to find a table. We lined up to the front bar to order and a staff member noticed us, asked if it was our first time there and reserved a table for 4 for us while we ordered. Made it easy and stress free for us and the kids in the popular and busy place. Definitely recommend! The brunch was tasty and the kids enjoyed the start to the day. Grey Dog...please keep that practice of helping find a table...it really makes a difference.

Amazing lunch and ambience!

Excellent ambience, service, & food. Chicken Salad Melt was superb and French fries were out of this world! Strongly recommend!

Don't ignore this one

By PEdinburgh |

A desire to eat at Fred's wife Freda led us to carmine street but a 30 min wait just wasn't on the cards. Our daughter had been to another grey dog and suggested we skipped across the street to try the grey dog on carmine street. What a delight: the grey dog breakfast with fluffy French toast, the smoked salmon and the grilled cheese with avocado and bacon all top notch. Fresh and delivered quickly. Table staff are great and very helpful. You may need to wait but it's worth it and patrons are mindful on a Sunday when it's busy. Def worth a try

Great atmosphere, food was alright

By aj192018 |

I was SO excited to try this place because they have gluten free challah french toast which is, in my opinion, the holy grail of gluten free dishes. Upon trying it however, it was quite dense and not very good. I really liked the staff and the atmosphere of the place. I was simply disappointed with the gluten free french toast I had. I am thankful that they had options for me so that I could eat brunch with friends (which is not always an option).

A nice place to eat

By Tim |

Very good mac & cheese. Loved the ambiance. Superb customer service, very friendly staff. Convenient location.

Lovely refuge from the cold

By scutchy_jo |

Came in here for soup and a sandwich on a very cold afternoon - food was hot and delicious. They have a great selection of beers too. Staff were all v friendly & helpful. Wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Great vibe, vibrant industrial feel

By Lucas F |

Good prices, HH every day of the week. Found this place wandering to the Comedy Cellar! Glad we did!

Perfect place for a scran

By Charlie H |

Visited New York for a week. Ate out 3 times a day and this was the best meal we had. Unreal. Excellent staff, lovely for a conversation and went the extra mile to help. Cost us $80 with a heavy tip so I think it’s fairly priced - especially for the excellent quality of food. Will be craving this until we return to New York.

Great for a quick bite to eat

By steven e |

We stopped here for some lunch whilst visiting NYC. Nice atmosphere inside, staff were friendly. Good selection of dishes. From lighter bites to fuller meals. We had a soup and sandwich between us. Good food, and good prices for NYC. Felt almost a little British, which for us was good.

Decent food, slow service

By Stephanie G |

Portions were pretty good, except the bread with the spinach dip, very skimpy. Waitress only half listened and got my order wrong and it refills slow in coming. Service was very slow and they were not busy. Staff seemed more willing to chat with each other than be attentive to the guests.

Good Value

By adamlipson |

My wife and I have eaten at Grey Dog several times. We've eaten at their NOLITA location, their University Place location and at their Carmine Street Location. Firstly, their people are great. They have people who work incredibly hard to get their good food to you quickly. They have lots of sauces and options for burgers and salads. We love it. They are also value priced.

Fun Bar Food

By Maggie O'C |

Fun, friendly spot with great food. I had the Grey Dog club sandwich and it was very good, crusty artisan bread and perfect combination of flavors.

Pitch-Perfect Brunch

By jeff6 |

No matter your brunch hankerings, Grey Dog has it with taste, style and a smile. Enjoy eggs, sandwiches, tacos and salads with the friendliest staff in NYC.

Great food, love the vibe

By Claudia |

Had breakfast with kids. Easy relaxed place. Onlynthe kids portion of omlette was a bit small, but more than enough on the adult one to share.

Fantastic breakfast

By Jen |

What a fun, quirky place. We had a lovely breakfast here. I adored the atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and seriously never stopped moving. What clinched it for me was our waiter took a huge order from another table. Then he came to me and I asked for a juice refill. He put the order in. I saw him after a moment look around the restaurant area taking stock of where things stood. He eyed the table with the big order he had just put in, he looked directly at my empty juice glass, appeared to realize it would be a while for my juice order to come up after the big order he just entered, and so he went and got my refill himself. It was great customer service. I hope to come back the next time we're in NY.

Delicious, warm, friendly, relaxed

By Hcrucifer |

Had breakfast here on a Sunday. Staff so warm, friendly, relaxed but attentive. And worked together. Had french toast and a fruit cup. Both delicious. Person I was eating with had the big combination breakfast that he said was delicious too. Space is cozy, brick walls, really pleasant decor. Would definitely go back.

Great service and great food!

By Kim C |

Great service and great food! Glad we found this place last minute before we left. I recommend the avocado toast!

Ok for breakfast or lunch

By Dana Los Angeles |

Food was ok, and service was ok. No complaints at all, but it just didn't knock your socks off with anything special.

Brilliant Place to Eat & Drink

By Richard N |

Good food and drink, friendly service, great atmosphere, all at reasonable prices, what more can you wish for? Highly recommend - can get crowded sometimes due to its popularity but hey that's a sign of how good it is.

Wow! A Fantastic Brunch Spot

By SandySRL |

While in NY, we were looking for a good spot for brunch and stumbled upon The Grey Dog. It had a fetching name so we gave it a try. From the outside, it looked none too appealing! However, the windows showed a large crowd of guests who seemed to be enjoying their meal. We were more than pleasantly surprised with the varied menu and the pleasing aromas. Wow! What a large amount of food! We both ordered the same thing - the breakfast. There were scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, French toast, and fresh fruit all nicely arranged in a serving platter. Delicious! We will be regular clients for the prices were reasonable, the service good, and the food was outstanding!

Fantastic

By JonnyWilde |

Great vibe, bustling diner/cafe. Food all looks great. I had the french toast which was amazing, with home fries and sausage and I would definitely have again. Good coffee too and great service. Reasonable cost. Well worth tracking down for a buzzing breakfast.

Great breakfast in a great area

By Jmstudios |

Food was great, service was friendly and timely. It was packed with a line out the door. Not the place to go if you want a quiet breakfast. We would definitely go back.

Great place to visit!

By "Scooterne" |

Great, authentic food, great service, great place to visit! We absolutely recommend this place for a snack, a lunch and a beer.

Best ever

By Tropicks |

This place has the best food. Fkavor, presentation, staff all deserve 5 star ratings. The restaurant is quant, fitting with local culture to make it a well rounded experience. Prices very modest $-$$ which is unbelievable for NYC, however they could easily charge high $$$ and it would still be worth it! Enjoy!

Morning

By laurent f |

You see when a place is good by the number of people getting along with a smile, I recommend the polenta which is just great

Warm, friendly, great food

By Gavin F |

Arrived for breakfast at 08:00 as soon as they opened. Warm welcome, great coffee and the food was amazing. Both boys has pancakes, bacon and syrup. Wife had chicken and waffles and I had the short rib hash. All were amazing and all cooked fresh.

Amazing burgers!

By Pablo Mejias |

I know New York is the city with many many good restaurants but the hamburgers served at this place deserve this 5 Starts review because definitely are amazing! Good environment!

Nice selection of soups, salads and sandwiches

By Steven L |

At Grey Dog you order & pay at the counter, then a hostess shows you to your table. Shortly after, a waiter brought it to my table: a house salad. It was a large portion of a nice mix of various greens, but the tiny container of dressing was hardly enough to cover half. I was in a hurry for a show so I didn't request more. I enjoyed the food, but there are too many steps involved for a first-timer in getting your meal. When you ask for silverware, napkins, water, you are pointer to a small service bar hidden around the corner. Difficult to know if you've tipped properly, since there is a tip jar on the counter at the register, a line item on the receipt for tips; and should you also leave a tip on the table? Or does the waiter get a cut from the other two places?

Outstanding omelets — great breakfast option

By Ron R |

My wife and I popped in here for breakfast — we loved it. Great vibe on a busy Saturday morning. Coffee, mimosas, and omelets were outstanding!

Yummmmmm

By NJWS |

Great place I got a Cauliflower Rice Stir Fry that was like home cooking. My husband got the Grey Dog Club. Both where amazing. The owner came over to check on us, he was so nice. The wait staff helped us by answering some travel questions. I can’t speak highly enough of this restaurant. What a find!

Good Back Up That Won't Get in Your Way.

By NYCHOTSHOT |

I've used the Grey Dog around the city(there are 4 in Manhattan?) over the years in some occasions. It's a low key, very casual restaurant with honest and reasonable pricing. It's busy most times, but nice to have a slightly rustic full menu restaurant with wine and beer like this. The Grey Dog is one of those places that you go because you get seated quickly enough(or immediately) without much hassles so that you can get your eat on or precious time with friends and families. You wouldn't go there for food- that being said, everything I had before has been tasty and reasonably priced. You'll be doing yourself a favor by going there than chain/franchise like Apple Bees or IHOP.

Serendipitous Choice West Village

By MJK418 |

Of the 50,000 places to eat in New York city, you wander into The Grey Dog in the West Village at 49 Carmine St. and discover a great place to have lunch. The black bean tortilla soup was superb as was the hamburger. The cup of Earl Grey tea on a subfreezing day was exactly right.

Cosy coffee, decent food

By foodtravelwriter1 |

Nice ambiance and pretty good food. We went on a weekday for brunch and the place was not too busy or loud which was refreshing for NYC - it's like a little haven tucked away on the corner of Bedford and Carmine. The order-at-the-counter situation won't be ideal for everyone but it seems to work quite well. Although I did notice that at times the line became quite long with take-out coffee orders etc. The guy who brought out our food was cherry and chatty and is a great asset to the place! I would probably give a higher rating but for the girl serving at the counter - she really lets the place down - pretentious, rude, and disinterested...

Charming neighborhood spot

By Susan A |

Charming spot not far from the 911 Memorial. Exposed brick walls and dog friendly that add the charm. Great spot for breakfast or lunch. We had the Big House Burger, Chicken Salad melt, Grey dog Club sandwich and shared the Spinach & artichoke dip. The servings are large and all reasonably priced.

Breakfast was on point!

By 195gailc |

I absolutely loved this place for breakfast! The food was great, the ambiance was low key and comfy and the service was amazing! Definitely going back... maybe this morning!!

oh yes...great place for breakfast

By Angelo P |

every time I'm in NY, I cant help to go by those guys. Friendly staff, very good and healthy stuff...it reminds me being in SF! Just a different view from the window! Approved and definitely suggested! Suggestion: have a pancake with fruit and chocolate! It is worth the visit!

Breakfast with Atmosphere

By jonnsymon |

Went for a family breakfast. Staff were really friendly and great service. Smoked Salmon is amazing and daughter’s chocolate chip pancakes certainly were well received. Coffee wasn’t great but by American standards it was above average. Great atmosphere overall. The only detraction was the bill paying arrangement whereby one orders, drinks arrive - you pay the bill and then food comes. For a non native of New Yorker when to tip was confusing.

A great spot for breakfast

By servicecomesfirst |

When we visit New York we like to search out neighbourhood diners for breakfast. The Grey Dog is a classic diner with all the standard breakfast items. The young waiters are friendly and efficient. My omelette with hash browns and toast was tasty, and the coffee is top notch.

Excellent Breakfast

By Yvonne P |

Nice place, excellent service and the food was delicious. The dishes are large and beautifully decorated. It's worth every penny you pay.

Happy bathroom stop

By 084766554 |

Stopped in to use the bathroom, ended up having a meal. Very friendly staff, food was excellent, prices reasonable, drinks, good coffee, great atmosphere, only one bathroom, seems like a trend though.

Grey Dog Cafe - brunch haven

By Prue S |

I come from brunch heaven, so finding Grey Dog was a real bonus. Great atmosphere; friendly and efficient staff; good food. Great music soundtrack - subtle, low volume and fitted brilliantly with Greenwich Village location. Overloud music features in most places in NYC these days. Table and bar-style seating.

Superb food

By Bigwednesday |

My wife and I stumbled across this place after a stranger we met in a juice bar recommend Carmine Street for food. So glad we did. We had grilled chicken with sweet potato fries and everything was very filling and perfectly cooked. We will return next time we're in the City.

Breakfast served until 3 pm? YUM!

By Lisa S F |

This place has everything right—lovely selection, great prices and wonderful food. I had a fried chicken and egg sandwich which even featured a taste of smoked salmon. My dear pal told me that her BLT was the best she could recall ever having! Such a delight and an easy-going crowd all around us. Loved it!

Twice in one day

By jprice447 |

Had lunch here -- the half sandwich, half soup option -- fresh, good, healthy food and friendly staff. Went back for diinner and wine: super helpful waitstaff and the food was great. V good value after four nights of other ny restaurants and a relief to have something green!

Awesome little gem

By SR-1007 |

After a slice at Joe’s down the street, we stopped in the Grey Dog to see if they had anything on tap. We thought we might be disappointed since it was a hole in the wall on the corner and we didn’t notice any taps, but we had two very good pints of draught beer. Top marks. Also had some excellent guacamole, bean dip and chips (and I’m from Texas). I highly recommend that.

Excellent!

By Austin P |

The food was out of this world and the staff was very accommodating and friendly! Really relaxing environment in a great area. We will definitely be going back!

Nice place

By Martin R |

Great place and great location, but do not order the Granola for brunch. Simply to much granola and almost no youhurt or fruit.

Very good burgers.

By pmejias15 |

This is a wonderful place to have a good burger, not only good I prefer to say an amazing burger. I asked for the side fries to be crispy and they did it perfect, crunchy. Excellent beef on the burger. Everything was 5 starts!

Best breakfast in NY.

By Sole O |

Been there before, just for coffee. Loved decor and service. Breakfast was amazing! I’ll go there every time I visit Nyc for sure!

Yummy scones and nice morning vibe

By Mohana R |

Stopped in here for a coffee with a friend and it’s a great vibe with nice bites (on the pricey side but hey, it’s New York).

Best coffee and great food.

By Lesley B |

This was our second time coming here, and both times were excellent. The breakfast is amazing and the coffee is the best I ever have and I am a coffee drinker. I had an omelette with the breakfast potatoes. Again the coffee is delightful and the vibe and the service is exceptional.

Breakfast stop with a difference

By Tripster |

Great atmosphere and range of breakfast foods. Not your usual menu. We really enjoyed it and will go back the next time we’re in the area.

Fantastic casual spot in the village

By hrobinson1114 |

Unassuming spot in the village. Laid back, almost tropical vibes, with dark wood and friendly service. A few outdoor tables too! I had the seared salmon sandwich on ciabatta with avocado crema, citrus aioli, and perfect thick cut bacon. Extremely tasty! The fries were the average shoestring fries, but fine! They have several sandwich options, including a fancy BLT, a delicious looking club, grilled cheese, short rib, cheesesteak, burgers, shrimp options, and fish tacos. They also have a lot of sexy salad options and several vegan entrees. They have a large appetizer menu with plenty of alluring small bites. They also serve breakfast all day. I had a few of the drinks—one off the menu, recommended by the bartender, and a couple more of the menu. They have a fun, colorful booze menu. Lots of herbs, fruits. They have their own takes on margaritas, fizzes, Palomas, the jungle bird, and more. All very light and refreshing and not too sweet. And reasonable prices for sure! Service was attentive and helpful, laid back and cool! This might be one of my new casual spots to hang out in while in the village!

Everybody is welcomed!

By NYRickWeber |

WoW what a great restaurant. I was checking out the menu on the sidewalk and their sandwiches sounded good, so I thought I'd give it a try. The atmosphere of the place is happy, safe and everyone is welcomed. Even in this big city, it's nice to have a safe place to be who you are and enjoy a good lunch. The staff was very helpful. I'm handicapped and they took great care of me. I can't wait to go back again! Oh, get the fried chicken sandwich - It's amazing!

A Good, Reasonable Casual Restaurant in the Village

By vacationaddictnyc |

I go here with my daughter who lives nearby in Soho and the food has always been good and the service people helpful. Given the location, the pricing is quite reasonable. You can split the decent sized grilled chicken sandwich, for example, and spend very little for a quick bite.

Fresh Food and Fun Vibe

By dedelad |

We stumbled upon this bustling cafe while looking for food. The menu is is written on the wall. Because there is a line you need to decide quickly what you want to eat. The young man at the counter saw we were overwhelmed by the choices. When asked for his personal favorites, he took the time to help us. There were many other dishes that sounded fabulous it was hard to choose. We decided on the veggie burger and pasta with avocado. Both were fresh and delicious.

Friendly neighborhood cafe

By sabearfan12 |

Not our initial choice for breakfast on Memorial Day but most places were either closed for the day or opened later. And we didn’t have much time because our train was leaving at 1020am. After we couldn’t find any of the places we wanted to be open, I called here to see if they were open as they were near our hotel. It was 745 am and all they said was yes they were, you’ll find out why i say it that way. We were about 2 blocks from there so we were glad to try it out. It’s on a nice little corner in the village. Cutely decorated we went in and saw a few older people sitting and drinking coffee and having pastries. The staff were all younger women seeming to have a good time working. We asked for a table and were told sit wherever we’d like and told that we order at the counter and they will bring out to us. I asked for menus and we were asked if we were ordering g from the kitchen and that’s when we found out that the kitchen doesn’t open until 815...😒 And that’s why I said what I did earlier. This meant that we’d be waiting longer for our food and we were on a time crunch. And leaving to go somewhere else would put us in the same position. So we dealt with it and ordered our coffee at the counter which at least was served to us at our table. Ordering at the counter My daughter ordered scrambled eggs with home fries and toast. I got pancakes, eggs, bacon and home fries. I didn’t like the fact that i had to pay ahead of time for a sit down breakfast. Plus at this point we had no cash left, so in order to leave a tip i had to do it on my card and tipped ahead. While we waited I have to admit we were slightly annoyed by the behavior of the staff talking extremely loud, singing and laughing. I like that they were enjoying themselves, but it was personal conversations with each other, mostly gossip about people they know. If they were paying as much attention to their customers and engaging in conversation I would have appreciated it. But it was mostly sophomoric behavior. Our food was delivered by 830 and I can’t say we had any complaints about it. We liked the home fries as they were simply deep fried potatoes so the outside was really crunchy and the inside was like mashed potatoes. Pancakes were good as well. Nothing special, and not our first choice, it was a pretty disappointing way to end our weekend trip to NYC

Great food and great atmosphere

By Lars G |

We were 4 people for breakfast and enjoyed it. The food was great and the whole experience was great. The neighborhood is fun to take a walk through after breakfast. I can recommend this place.

Delicious breakfast at a cozy place

By Cornelia H |

We went here for breakfast multiple times during our 1 week trip to NYC. Super cute place with cool staff and delicious breakfast options. Would recommend to people with food allergies as they were very accomodating & thorough on that topic 💕

Great food, ambiance and friendly staff

By littlemissrachel08 |

I have visited the Grey Dog many times and each was a delight! The staff are very welcoming and friendly and table service is reasonably fast. The ambiance for breakfast, brunch or evening meal is great for family and friends - if you're looking for a cool place to eat, it's here!

Great Neighborhood Spot

By clrinaldi43 |

I love coming here for a quick bite with my girlfriend when we are not in the mood to think too hard last minute about where to eat and what to grab, and lately we have been positively falling back on Grey Dog as a safe and clutch go to locale around the corner from our place. I wouldnt call this place a destination spot by any means; however, its the type of place that you'll love upon your first trip and they'll never fail on any subsequent visit thereafter. Its got a bit of a Williamsburg vibe to it when it comes to the decor and staff, whom are always more than nice and generous, and the food catches a diverse pallet of options, you just gotta make sure to browse and try new things as ive never been disappointed. Anywhere from a relaxing night by yourself (yes its the kind of place that you'll enjoy a solo occasion), quick trip with the significant other to eat in or take it with, or even a small or large group gathering to get drinks from their nice selection of tap beers, I highly recommend Grey Dog as a place that's absolutely worth giving a shot if you haven't already.

Fun Little Place

By Wildwoodatheart |

We stopped in for a late lunch while wandering around the city. Our group had a variety of sandwiches and beverages, and everyone was very happy with their food. The vibe is funky, industrial pub. The staff seemed like they really loved their jobs, and they were efficient and friendly. We would love to return next time we're in the city!

Late lunch

By NAJenn |

Stumbled on this place by accident. Lovely vibe, friendly staff, great food! Huge portions, lots of choice for everyone, especially the vegetarian amongst us who normally has only one option. Definitely worth a visit. Reasonable price for New York.

Great ambience - mediocre food

By Misha Lagodinsky |

Went there with two kids. The place has a great vibe and decor however the food seriously lagging behind. The eggs and home fries were tasteless. Coffee was sub par. Pancakes were ok. The kids were happy.

Must GO!

By Traveler4Life |

This was one of the best “spontaneous” bars we’ve ever walked into. The service is truly unparalleled. The drinks were phenomenal. Recommend to all. Will return.

Great place to eat before your NYU tour. Food was delicious and portions were huge. Very friendly staff.

Perfect place to meet with friends!

By Lorraine M |

What a great cafe serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pancakes were wonderful Egg sandwich even better! Ice coffee my favorite bold and flavorful

Friendly for all eating types

By Christine G |

I have some allergies and a limited diet so it is always nice to find a place where a carnivore, vegan, and gluten folk can all eat! I had the zucchini pesto pasta with Dijon Brussel sprouts and got a piece of polenta blueberry cake to take home. The zucchini pasta was yummy, the brussel sprouts I prefer a little more cooked but enjoyed the Dijon flavor. By far the polenta blueberry cake omg! I can not wait to try a variation at home what a great idea! The service is incredible they're speedy, check in to make sure all is set with a truly warm sunny demeanor. Would recommend. Please do know this is a partial service they bring you the food but not utensils, water, etc ;)

Good spot in the village for quick bite

By Kevin |

In NYC for weekend wandered around greenwich and stumbled across this place. Hearty fresh food, great service and enjoyed the stop. People who work there seem to enjoy their jobs and that makes a good atmosphere.
