Enjoyable lunch stop

By MartinCR |

My husband and I ate lunch here yesterday. All very swish. Great service. Burger and pasta mains good, though not outstanding. Rhubarb trifle really amazing though! No way is it cheap here but we were glad we'd stopped by - if only for the dessert course!

Brunch Bummer

By VinoVeritasZZ |

Made a 10:30 AM reservation for Sunday brunch only to learn (after being seated) that the brunch menu wasn't available until after 11:30 AM. Seems odd that they'd bother with a breakfast menu prior to brunch but what do I know. Our choices from the breakfast menu were OK, not great.

If you enjoying being fleeced and insulted...

By FunFlava |

...you'll love the Mark restaurant. The food is overpriced and unremarkable. The service is indifferent when not unavailable. The management is surly and suspicious and the decor generic and anonymous. They even tried to charge me for ice in a glass. Far and away the worst dining experience this New Yorker has had this year. Jean Georges note well.

Maybe just because it was a Sunday evening

By Henry A |

Maybe just because it was a Sunday evening in July and all the regular staff and guests were out of town, but still not an excuse, a half empty restaurant with such a reputation has no reason not to excel when not busy. The waiter didn't know what he was doing. Did not ask us if we wanted wine. Did not bring the 2nd bottle of water that we ordered. Brought coffee without sugar or sweetener. My portion of smoked salmon was great, my portion of halibut was minuscule and lost on the huge plate on which it was served. The redeeming feature of the meal was the dessert. All in all not to be recommended.

Lunch at The Mark Restaurant is a quintessential high-end NYC experience. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the cost is commensurate.

EXPENSIVE AND NOT WORTH IT

By doug100worth |

Service isn't what it should be. Room is beautiful. Food is OK. VERY EXPENSIVE. Jean Georges should spend a night here and get it right as the neighborhood could use one of his first rate restaurants. $600 for 4 people with one round of drinks. $30 for each appetizer.......appetizers were excellent. 3 hamburgers and one broiled salmon..............hamburgers weren't the recommended $45 type with truffles but rather just plain hamburgers PJ Clarke's has them beat by a mile. I keep saying I'm not coming back and this time I mean it

Best Place After the Opera or Ballet

By Preston T |

The upper Eastside pretty much shuts down after 10 PM, So it is difficult to have a meal after the ballet or opera. This restaurant stays open until midnight and has a late night menu. Our favorites are the chicken club sandwich and the shrimp salad.

Uncaring Service, Poor Food in an aging Establishment

By Robyn G |

Some restaurants get better with age, others just get old. The Mark is just old. I used to love coming to this place 10 years ago, but after a recent trip to NY, I was extraordinarily disappointed. I went for breakfast, and after passing through a very well manicured lobby, I arrived at a 90s era shabby restaurant. I ordered a scone and the avocado toast, the avocado toast was mediocre, the scone was hard as a rock, and the clotted cream had a piece of broken plate in it - which I initially assumed was a piece of carmelized sugar, so I attempted to eat it. After getting a mouthful of glass, I tried to get the attention of my server - after one curt "I'm sorry" - she went to get her manager. After 10-15 minutes of me trying to get glass out of my mouth. He finally showed up, he did not ask how I was, but simply said he would start his investigation. Happy Hunting Homes. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Room Service during My Stay

By abbykendrick2017 |

I ordered room service multiple times while staying at the Mark. I had the cheeseburger because I was so hungry. It was cooked correctly, medium rare, and the quality was good. I also had the lobster pizza for lunch which had huge pieces of lobster and was good. I also had espresso and dessert. Also 2 breakfasts. Coffee was very good, poached eggs.. and continental. I was happy with the food.

Classy

By eoc109 |

My husband and I visited Jean Georges for lunch and it couldn't have been nicer and more elegant. We were celebrating a special birthday for my husband. The service was top notch and we sat in our favorite table near the bar and beside the patio. The food (including dessert) was terrific and the restaurant was packed. We had our waiter's undivided attention and she made us feel as though we are the only couple in the room. Without a doubt ...this was a memorable lunch at Jean Georges and well shall be back again and again.

Good luck.

By Robin R |

On our our last trip we ended up Walking out (a first) as after being seated we never saw another staff member so we left. To the credit of the management, they tracked down the phone used to make the reservation and begged for another chance. The second visit wasn’t a unanimous decision , but we gave them their chance. Service wasn’t much better and the food was certainly nothing to write about. We counted 5/6 employees standing around who could have been offering better service. The staff members seemed more impressed that they were working at The Mark than actually doing their jobs. The best breakfast service of our trip came from a neighborhood diner staffed by immigrants.

Cannot believe

By Lizwoolley |

This restaurant is expensive and is helmed by Jean-Georges which would lead one to believe that service and decorum would be a priority. Upon being seated I was offered water. Great! 15 minutes go by with nary a server in sight. Secondly, the table adjacent to me has a man on his phone walking around the tables while on said phone. His dining companion is also on her phone. This is completely inexcusable in a fine dining, expensive restaurant. I'm so tired of the New York restaurants thinking anything goes and they are too cool to care. It's rude.

Still amazing food, one star off for the glitches with the service.

By RGSOUNDF |

We reviewed the restaurant a little more than a month ago; since then we stayed in the wonderful Mark hotel again, and again had a great breakfast at The Mark by Jean-Georges. The food and service, and the prices, and the menu choices, all of the above was top-notch, if not perfect. Moreover, our personal experience was totally flawless. However, what we have been observing around us, service-wise, made us take one star off this otherwise very distinguished NYC restaurant. On more than one occasions, we have witnessed customers waiting (inside the restaurant, by the hostess' station) to be seated. The wait was not momentarily. The issue was that at the same time there were numerous tables available but evidently not enough servers. The miscalculation is not befitting to a restaurant of that level. Otherwise, highly recommended. Excellent breakfast. We would recommend you order The Market Breakfast (Two Organic Eggs Any Style Served with Roasted Potatoes, Boston Lettuce Wedge, Choice of Flying Pigs Farm Ham, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Salumeria Biellese Chicken or Pork Sausage, Toast (Seven Grain, White, Rye, Sourdough, Pumpernickel, Gluten Free, English Muffin or Bagel), Freshly Squeezed Juice (Orange, Grapefruit, Carrot), La Colombe Coffee or Organic Teas), offered for $29. Good deal and superior quality.

Wonderful Dinner Experience

By Stacy K |

Chic and sophisticated decor, amazing food and service. Crispy sushi and Fettuccine pasta were a hit. Great wine list.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas lunch

By Alexis B |

We thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas lunch at the Mark by Jean Georges. It was a nice ambiance with families. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The scallops with Truffle as the first course, the lobster as the entree and the warm chocolate cake with ice cream as the dessert gave me great pleasure. Everyone on the table enjoyed their food. The only criticism I have is the price set for this menu. I understand the restaurant is in New York and that it's a Jean Georges restaurant, but I'm not sure the dishes deserve these high prices. Still, if you can afford it, this is a fantastic restaurant with amazing food.

WAY TOO MUCH NOISE AT DINNER ON SATURDAY

By doug100worth |

While I like The Mark for lunch, we had dinner there last night and it was a zoo. Service and food were fine but the noise was insane. Everyone was having a good time except those who wanted to hear each other. We sat at a table in the bar area. Maybe that was part of the problem

Elegant and Excellent

By 69tiger888 |

We stayed in the hotel and have breakfast , lunch , brunch and dinner with different groups of people. This restaurent is a cross between Nougantine and the Jean George at Trump , menu and wine list similar . The bar area is sizable and opened into the medium size restaurant with table cloth .Lunch was 1/2 filled ,but dinner is super busy ( get to get service attention )and a bit noisy ( especially near the bar , we changed our table ) Sunday Brunch also very popular and busy. We have groups ranging from 2 , 4 and 7 people . The food is superb . I am glad I ordered the cod instead of Dover Sole , , fresh , grilled perfectly on top of spinach , samosa better than Indian restaurent , veal Milanese’s yummy , octopus and calamari good too. . The brunch is fun with the usual breakfast items plus items like hamburger and pizza. On the wine list , they are Sreaming Eagle for 5000! We enjoyed this eatery

Not worth the price

By dlugo |

Business visit for dinner for three. Wait staff broke glass on arrival at table. Service was friendly but slow. Mixed results with Cocktails and appetizers. Good Manhattan, poor whiskey sour. Entries were tasty but nothing exceptional. One average bottle of red with dinner (not their choice), and cheesecake and sorbet for dessert. All in all, didn't stand up to $500+ bill.

Delicious food, indifferent service

By jag343 |

The food was delicious, as were the drinks, but the service was not at all what one would expect for $150 pp meal. From the moment we checked in -- when we were left standing holding our bags for several minutes and had to ask about a bag/coat check -- to when we were seated brusquely -- we were not made to feel welcome. The waiter was hard to hear and answered our questions perfunctorily (example: "Tell us about the cookies", "It is a plate of various cookies"). Our drinks were placed at the wrong guests; we had to ask for serving utensils for our shared appetizers (which included a salad); our main meal came a good half hour after our starters were finished with a perfunctory apology. We went for a special experience. The food was special; the experience was a downer.

Denial of Service

By Marco M |

I didn't have a lunch reservation. I got to the restaurant at 12:25pm. I asked about a table and was told that nothing was available until 2pm. I'm Latin American with dark skin. My lunch companion arrived at 12:30pm, he's white. I told him that we couldn't get a table but he said he would ask anyways. He got a table immediately. Five minutes later a couple comes in without a reservation and is seated next to us. At the end of the meal we told the manager what had happened and he was very adamant that there is no bias.

Awful service, boring food, exorbitant prices, incorrect billing, missing sunglasses

By JillyConQueso |

In town for tennis and wanted a fun brunch. Waitress takes 45 minutes to bring us our bottle of champagne. Another 30 to take our food order from a stupidly limited menu. $46 for a basic Denny's standard breakfast. No butter for toast, no waitress to bring it. FINALLY get check (late to tennis now) and they over charged us by $500 on the champagne. Did they think we wouldn't notice? Manager apologized and fixed it. (Even later to tennis) I call from the Uber that I'd left my Versace sunglasses on the table, and OF COUSE, they are nowhere to be found. This was an absolute embarrassment of a meal and the attempted overcharge and then taking my sunglasses to boot. Close down this awful restaurant and get your name off it, Jean Georges!

MISSES THE MARK COMPLETELY

By NicMoraXO |

I was SO excited to go here after begging my fiancé for 7 months to take me for brunch. I would have enjoyed my cheat meal at McDonald's over this. I should have known this place was a disaster after hearing the patrons walk out complaining as we were entering. We ordered two iced lattes which were amazing but also $11/latte. Did they go pick the espresso beans themselves? Took us awhile to flag down our waiter to order and when our food came, my fiancé's chicken was more dry than the Arizona air in the dead of summer. His salad was tasteless. Now, my mission to get a burger was the real kicker. I ordered their cheeseburger medium. The burger comes, no cheese and the fries are barely hot. They take back the burger and said they'd make me a new one. NOPE. Same burger with half melted Brie and now well done instead of medium. When I told the waiter this, he acted like III was inconveniencing him. So again, they take back the burger and say they'll bring me a new one. Meanwhile, my fiancé is almost done with his food, we barely have any fries left because I was STARVING by that point, and the broccoli rabe we ordered looked and tasted like it died. My burger finally comes with new fries and guess what? Inside of the burger is RAW. Literally raw ground meat. But oh, there was cheese on it, so there's that. I ate around the raw meat and the waiter didn't even say sorry. He did say he was going to remove it from the bill but didn't offer or provide anything for the experience. We told him it's not your fault but this is the worst restaurant we've been to in the city in months. He said he would relay the message to his manager. The manager never came. Shocking. Not. While I was wait

THE BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

By Elena Monci NYC |

The Big Disappointment.I had a lot of expectation, about food and service, both disregarded. My artichoche was uneatable, hard and chewy, the burger was cold and in the middle of the dinner people from the restaurant walked past the tables in the main dining room with giant black garbage bags....Terrible terrible experience.

Reliable on return visit 3 years later

By Richard L |

Hadn't been back for several years and had a good dinner. Sea bass was nicely prepared, Caesar salad-hearts of romaine was ok but presentation not very special. Service good and tables well spaced so you can hear conversation. Bottom line, reliable but not very special.

Best Christmas Dinner

By Jun L |

I heard and read many good things about this restaurant and really wanting to experience dining in The Mark by Jean George. We did with the family during our Christmas dinner. Very accomodating host and staff the moment we entered the restaurant. Our table was almost at the middle of the room and the atmosphere will immediately put you in the mood for food and drinks. The room was dimly lit. Sommelier will offer wine and she is so pleasant. Appetizers to main to desert were uttlerly delightful. Complimentary desert wine goes perfect with desert. Best Christmas Dinner!

Brunch

By Sax_Doc |

Fancy smanshy. It’s a great room with old time great service. The menu for brunch is HUGE. There’s something for everyone. The wine list is huge as well. Did I mention that the prices are huge? The food was very good but not outstanding. The pastries were ok. The bread was ok. The salad was delicious but the chicken paillard was terrible. Pounded rubber. Great cappuccinos. A mixed bag. Should have been better.

Not bad food but too noisy

By Procaccia |

There are too many restaurants in NY which are not cheap at all, catering to a sophisticated clientele, in which a civilized discussion over dinner is impossible. The noise level is such that one needs to scream at the table in order to be heard. This of course destroys the pleasure of dinner even though the food is pretty good. I started with calamari that were a bit too heavily coated but still tasty. A main dish of charred lobster was disappointing, very small portion of a lobster for a hefty price. Overall a disappointing experience.

Delicious food, okay service

By Jane Meissner |

The Mark is a beautiful restaurant with great food! The restaurant has many of the components to make up a five-star experience, however, it fell a bit short for me. Don't get me wrong, I certainly enjoyed myself, it just felt like something was missing, primarily in the service department. The food: Definitely the highlight of our visit. The Roasted Maine Lobster over Meyer Lemon Risotto, Basil & Caramelized Fennel was an explosion of phenomenal flavor. I definitely recommend this entree! I also recommend the Tuna Tartare with Avocado & Ginger appetizer. For dessert, definitely the Butterscotch Pudding. The atmosphere: Modern and upscale, very professional. The service: Here is where I was unimpressed, and why I docked a star from an otherwise flawless evening. The servers all seemed to be somewhat unhappy and standoffish. I was confused, because service is usually impeccable at restaurants like The Mark. I frequently visit equivalently priced and higher-rated restaurants where the servers are gregarious and welcoming. It almost felt like the employees were directed to exude a certain image. I can understand that some people might like that, but I did not. A server's friendliness can really add a lot to an already exceptional meal. Aside from the impersonal service, The Mark would be a great place to go on a date night or celebratory evening. I probably will not return any time soon, but the food is definitely delicious.

The Jean George restaurant.

By AlbertoMay |

I have been to several Jean George restaurants but this one is by far the best The food and service where superb and many celebrities frequent this place. The setting is just beautiful.

Fantastic food - shocking service!!

By carriglea |

We were a party of 6 with people of various ages and the widely varied menu meant that there was plenty of choice for everyone. The room and ambiance was excellent and we were at a very nice table at the bright part of the restaurant with the skylight. The chairs were comfortable too, all of which meant the ideal ingredients for a successful meal. Indeed everyone, without exception really enjoyed the food. However there were many issues with the service. The main issues were as follows:- First, on three occasions the waiter got the order wrong, variously bringing either the wrong dish or extra items that were not ordered. Secondly, it was very difficult to actually get service and twice I had to leave my seat to ask could we order dessert, or an extra bottle of wine because there was no sign of a waiter coming near us. Thirdly, although the sommelier was excellent, after putting in an initial wine order it was left to the waiting staff to produce more bottles. I ordered a second bottle of a white burgundy and instead of asking me to taste it,the waiter just opened the bottle and started pouring it on top of wine that was already in the glasses from the first bottle. I asked him was he not going to let me taste first. The response was that he had tried it himself and it was “fine”. We did enjoy our meal and everyone praised the food. It’s a restaurant I would go back to but I have a huge question mark over the dreadful service. I would have given it 5 stars but for the service. It’s such a pity.

happy birthday to me!

It is always pleasant to return to the restaurant Jean-George at The Mark. Perhaps one of the few places in New York where you can still find a little glamour. "Last but not least" good food and great service.

Disappointing

By Janet T |

How disappointing! I was so looking forward to Christmas dinner by Jean-George. I knew it would be expensive, but I thought the food quality would compensate for it. The steak my husband had was overcooked and boring. I had lamb, which was also overcooked and boring. This is the mark of a fine chef? Perhaps Jean-George wasn't present and didn't teach his staff. If you offer a Christmas dinner, don't you think you could decorate for Christmas? The decorations were as bad as the food. We were also overcharged $130.00. Mistake or intentional?

Avarege restaurant

By Yakov B |

We visited restaurant in The Mark hotel and were disappointing a little. The food is average, nothing surprised us except maybe fried sushi. We were expected something higher in quality of food. The service was really good though.

Typical JG restaurant

By Wilson L |

Friend was staying in the hotel so we decided to give the restaurant a try. Service was OK, not super attentive. I selected a pasta as my appetizer and it was quite decent. My Veal Milanese was also quite delicious. However, my friend's tuna tartare came with so much sauce it was beyond salty! They replaced it with one that barely had any dressing. And to top it off, they charged her twice!!! In the end they did reverse the one charge. My wife's appetizer special with peach and prosciutto was OK, but her fish as her main course was not tasty at all. However, the blueberry pie and salted caramel deserts were good. For a restaurant that has so many italian dishes on offer, there was only 2 pages of italian wines for selection. Just a little strange. A little overrated, if not for the celebrity chef's name attached to it, I wonder if it'll last.

Great dinning experience

By Storm S |

This popular hotspot in upper east is a great place to enjoy dinner for a date or friends dinner. Try the pizza black truffle!! Fantastic. The breakfast is extraordinary. Ask for a table in the atrium. Feedback for the restaurant would be that it can be very noisy, small tables. Wine list is long and expensive

TERRIBLE

By rafael_azzi |

1- my appetizer plate was dirt, I asked to change and they sent me the same dirt plate (it had a yellow dirt on it) 2- asked for a bottle of water AT LEAST 4 times 3- MAIN COURSES CAME IN DIFFERENT TIMES. One of the guests ate her dish before everyone else (5 of us). You can see on the pics. 4- ordered a diet coke 3 times 5- they served the birthday cake )we were really trying hard not to upset the birthday boy with the fiasco) without silverware. So we could eat. 6- the table was DIRTY during ALL MEAL. no one came to clean it. 7- the manager came after our complaint and said the desert and drinks would be complementary (we didn’t want that, all we wanted was a normal lunch) and of course when the check came, everything was on there. 8 - desert was served next to the ketchup containers (ser pic) I felt like at a Burger King expect I was at a one of the “comestes restaurant of NYC” So sad to experience such a terrible service and it is not a COVID. or non COVID situation. The hotel & restaurant have enough of a structure to be able to service a regular table of 6 for a normal Saturday lunch. After all of this I still had to pay a 84 usd bill. I will NEVER come back to this place again.

Dissapointing

By dduck245 |

We often have friends visiting from out of town and sometimes wish to take them to an upscale restaurant. We checked The Mark one time for lunch on a weekday, and it was OK. Nice ambience and food. This time we went for brunch on Sunday. The first two courses and service were OK and then boom we sat looking at dishes from the entree and our waitperson disappeared. Service people were flying all around but we were ignored. I finally called over a guy in a suit and asked that they clean up and that we wished dessert and coffee. The coffee arrived and by the time the desserts (not too great) arrived, 10-15 minutes latter the coffee was cold. Again waited for someone to clear up and offer us a check, nope, had to ask the guy in the suit again. After giving our credit card, had to wait at least five minutes for the bill. One of the worst service experiences we have had in any restaurant, expensive or cheap, anywhere. Avoid, unless you are a regular, they may to get the fawning efficient treatment.

Huge Disappointment

By TravelGuy1945 |

Dinner with a friend. Our expectations were high. Appetizers - an enormous Caesar Sald. Tasty, but nothing special. Tuna tartare - spectacular, as one would expect at. Jean-Georges restaurant. My date had a cheeseburger - it was very good. I had halibut - it was fresh but boring, tasteless, not enhanced by the sauce. I ordered a side order of asparagus - large, tough and too much pepper. If the only factor in rating was food I would have given this place an Average rating. But, the service was non-existent. The captain was unpleasant when he appeared - which was twice: when we ordered and when he brought the bill (which I had to ask for). Had to flag down another captain to get a refill of water because waitstaff was nowhere to be found. And, the restaurant is very noisy, with no space between tables in the room with the high ceiling. I recommend you not go unless you enjoy ordinary food at very high prices and uncaring wait staff.

Exceptional food

By Katrin S |

This is one of the best meals I have had in NYC. Exceptional food, service and ambience. Whether it’s the cheeseburger, veal or the salmon bagel pizza or the cocktail and desert, everything is Michelin star level without being complicated or noisy. Just loved it.

Good drinks

By X375IEelizabethg |

Went on Sunday before the marathon for drinks. Not the fastest service, but the drinks were very good (although extremely overpriced).

Overrated

By MeatLover100 |

I expected so much more... Sunday brunch The service was impeccable, as expected. The lychee belini was nice. The smoked salmon in and of itself was amazing, but the chef doesn't make it. It comes from Russ & Daughters... Otherwise the food was bland and overpriced. The quality of ingredients was there and yet something got lost in the preparation. I was just disappointed. $250 for a couple for brunch - I expected more culinary talent. I definitely had better food for less money. Maybe I built it up in my head too much before getting there...

Bad day at the mark

By Elizabeth D |

The service was far below par.. no one checked on us.. we needed to send the food back but, no one came! The payard was thicker than a fist.. the globs of dressing felt as though the drain was clogged somewhere.. it was gross

Hits the "Mark"

By Rissa D |

The restaurant is a pleasure every time I go. The maitre d' Matthew is so welcoming, our latest server Hamid was so attentive and the food delicious. And with the pandemic happening, I still really enjoy everything and feel comfortable.

Superior Dining

By nscheuer |

I went there with a client/friend to celebrate, over lunch, the closing on her new home. We requested and were seated in my favorite area of the restaurant - the central core which is the area in the restaurant with the greatest natural light and has lovely décor. I ordered the Black Truffle Pizza. It was divine. My client/friend said her Tuna Burger was excellent. The only fault we found was that the waiter was annoying at times. He kept asking if we were finished eating when we clearly had not. As it was not late and there were empty tables it was strange. We told him we would let him know when we had finished and he ceased with the inquiries. The prices were definitely on the high end for lunch but I thought worth it.

Nice high-end breakfast, but not as special/perfect as before

By HMac_2013 |

The Mark’s reception area and Jean Georges restaurant are gorgeous, and the food and service are nearly perfect, but somehow less so for this very special breakfast than we remembered from prior visits. Nothing big, just little things like having to ask for a coffee refill and jam for our toast coming in little jars instead of a pretty crystal dish. Too picky? Maybe, but perhaps not for a $90 (with tip) breakfast for two. Another time I’d still like to return for a drink and a bite to eat in the restaurant’s very beautiful bar area.

Moms Birthday, Good Food, Service Needs Help

By David B |

Celebrated a big birthday for my mom with family in attendance. We sat under the skylight, so the ambience was weird. The Mark Hotel and the restaurant is part of the union, so that means you have a lot of men (bus attendants) just stand around. They made no eye contact with any of the tables, the captains were all woman, they were more attentive to our needs. My background in the hospitality industry spans over 20 years, so the guys just pouring water and clearing plates needs better training. The food was really good!!!! Prices are extremely high so you are being forewarned.

Fell Well Short of Expectations

By TrvlsEatsExplrs |

This restaurant should excel in all aspects of what goes into providing an incredible dinner out. Although decent, it was not what it should have been. Food was decent but salads had too little dressing and no anchovies as an option on the Cesar salad. The lobster burger was very juicy to the point where it soaked the bread and made it mushy. May have been frozen lobster of left soaking in water. All in all it was a decent meal but fell well short of a Jean George restaurant and the price that came a long with it.

OUTSTANDING

By jbella 7 |

This is by far the finest restaurant in the city. I first experience tasting Jean Georges's food was in 1999. It was a pleasure to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner outside in New York City,

A truly enjoyable evening

By Stanley N |

Start with a great bar scene and drinks and follow with a elegant yet casual environment where the attention to service is only matched by the food. Split some casual appetizers in the center of the table while you enjoy drinks and atmosphere.

Nothing special. Disappointing actually.

By Aquacarpet |

The grilled octopus consisted of a few large chunks of rubbery texture. The tuna burger was more like a canned tuna fish burger. The fries were good yet really oily. The cheeseburger was just good. The burrata was a bit flavorless. I won't be going back.

Don’t waste your time

By john c |

Very unpleasant experience-many far superior establishments in the area. Strictly a tourist trap and way overpriced given the level of cuisine and service. Since the restaurant community is so challenged right now, it’s disappointing how lackluster the service is at the Mark

First dinner here.

By elvira k |

Beautiful decor. Mostly inedible food with over seasoning, poor presentation, skimpy portions, and overpriced. Long wait for food. When food returned for over seasoning, the replacement was equally over seasoned. Very dissapointing.

This Is Not 2016! Much Better!

By mookie61 |

So Trip Advisor just reminded me of my 2 dot pretty lousy review of the Mark in 2016. I still stand by that review. BUT things have changed here in 6years. We ate here twice in June, and most recently three times over the last week in October. It is VERY good. The service is terrific--and we were happy to work with the somm Paul and our favorite server Sultan on creating great meals for our guests. And trust me-we had breakfasts, mid day drinks, and dinners. We tried all meals and lots of different dishes. And all of it rocked. We cant wait to go back.

Art moderne restaurant with fine food

By edkiii |

This restaurant is modernistic and friendly suggesting even that it is the latest style in dining serving sometime ordinary dishes ( like hamburger) with a high cuisine twist. My dessert of butterscotch pudding was without peer. A wonderful place to lunch in casual elegance.

Losing a step.

By billyboy18 |

Still a fine restaurant but seems to missing something. Tangy Caesar salad fine and my salmon was fine. Dessert molten chocolate cake was ok. Service a bit spotty and overpriced which I don’t really mind if it was a more special experience.

the Best!

By NinaG212 |

Love this place. The atmosphere is beautiful and elegant and always ideal for special occasions...for a popular place it also doesn't ever seem to get too crowded or too loud. The food and service is also excellent and never disappoints

Lack of menu imagination

By sjmluckett |

We enjoyed our dinner the other night. Clearly a restaurant that caters for comfortable food for its targeted clientele. Nice setting though I'm never comfortable seated with my back to an open room looking at a wall. The service was very good and at our request was a leisurely enough affair. The menu lacked imagination and I was puzzled by the pizza section. Food was well presented though minus a star for presenting the mains on cold plates which is unforgivable in my book. The sommelier was obliging and helped the evening along. The experience was a little unforgettable - had expected more of Jean Georges.

Is Jean Georges in the Kitchen? I don't think so!

By Laura W |

Jean Georges at 1 Central Park West in Manhattan is a delight and deserving of its five star ratings for both food and atmosphere. At the Mark, a classic hotel on the UES of Manhattan, this chef has attached his name to an eatery that is really mediocre, verging on bad. The menu is broad, offering every fashionable dish you could want--tuna tartare, sea bass, different pastas, a cheeseburger, fine steaks and veal Miilanese, to name a few. It is so broad that one wonders if it is really meant to serve as room service for the hotel.I cannot opine on the dinners of my colleagues but mine was this: a cold vodka martini that was generous, cold and delicious; a caesar salad of chopped romaine with Kraft parmesan that could have been made at a coffee shop; and the soggiest veal Milanese in the world, inexplicably served with overcooked soggy snow peas on top. The highlight of the meal was the crusty, chewy country bread that was served in small white bowls with a few tiny pats of butter for a large table of 10. Unfortunately everything went downhill after the martini. The wine list is apparently designed to make customers squirm as they hunt unsuccessfully for a decent wine under $200. Dessert was ok if you like caramel popcorn with ice cream on top. Out of a table of 10 people, not a single person thought their meal was good. Maybe JG was having an off night, but boy, if he is putting his name on this, he should stop mailing it in.

A dreadful service; snobism at its finest. Food not worth the try.

By Nicolas K |

I am writing regarding the dinner we had on September 18th at your establishment. Overall, the service was some of the poorest I’ve experienced in Manhattan and by far the worst experience at a JG restaurant. It took multiple attempts to have our orders taken, and then our first course was brought out so late that we nearly left. When the first course was finally served, we had to wait - again - for someone to bring the correct utensils. We were there to celebrate a birthday and ended up having one of the worst evenings out this year. We could clearly see the staff socializing and distracted - and clearly NOT paying attention to our table -; which makes the delays and poor service even less excusable. At this price point, it is frankly unacceptable. And the food was not even interesting.... I also sent an email to the manager; and never got a response.

It is getting worse

By Procaccia |

It is the third or fourth time that I am invited by a friend to the Mark. The experience is deteriorating from visit to visit. The noise level is too high to conduct a conversation without screaming. The background music at the beginning of our dinner was so annoying that my friend had to go to talk to the manager (the waiter refused to do anything about it) to get rid of this nuisance that truly does not belong to a restaurant of these prices. Then trouble started. The first bottle of wine had turned and was sent back. The second was OK (with a mark up by a factor of 4...). We then shared a pizza between three of us, it was good. The main dishes were a shame: two of us ordered rare, and the dishes arrived well done. Two plates out of three were returned to the kitchen. The replacements were OK. Asking for the check required three attempts. Obviously the place needs a floor manager to provide the service and quality that the prices require. I hope that my friend had enough of this place - it is not worth the trouble.

Jean-Georges Puts His Stamp on The Mark

By Rhet |

Having trouble getting into Jean-George's at Columbus Circle? I know I have. Even Nougatine proves quite the struggle. But worry not, as Jean-Georges has jumped over the park and put a quiet little outpost at The Mark Hotel. Seated in a romantically amber and red-lit dining room, we shared piping hot pot stickers, cripsy crab cakes with hints of ginger and citrus and a glass of Pol Roger Brut. A little bit of Osetra Caviar with dreamy, fluffy belinis came next, and we liked the Brut so much, we paired the Caviar with another glass. The Mains? How about carefully crafted lamb chop, a yummy 3-cheese ravioli with truffle and more hints of citrus! And desserts? Well, that’s something we’re going to leave alone for you to discover. We wanted a taste of Jean George. We got it. We left satiated and satisfied, and curious to seek out more. Can’t wait to get our feet in the doors at Columbus Circle...Hey, a foodie can dream, right?

Spacey

By tamjan |

Beautiful decor . Spacey bar. Modern contemporary . Didn’t eat just had a drink . Pretty exterior, nice for pics. Disabled access, WiFi, prices standard for the area. Guggenheim , metro museum all near . Snacks come with drinks

Modern and elegant with a beautiful bar and terrific cocktails

By mariannehinton |

If you want to go to someplace that is incredibly stylish and has inventive food, try the Mark Restaurant

Excellent meal, even better service.

By PeanutPopcorn1 |

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner here. I had the tuna tartare appetizer and Halibut, and my husband had the octopus appetizer and the lamb, with a side of the mushrooms. Sorbets for dessert. Lovely meal. Fantastic service. Cool vibe at the bar and in the restaurant. Jean George's restaurants always deliver. Excellent!

Beyond Disappointing

By ellebelleaz |

2 weeks ago we went to The Mark restaurant for my birthday. We have been many times and always been very happy. We had drinks, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. I had the scallops. No one else did and I got violently ill. Not the way I planned to spend my birthday. I called to let them know and got a whisper of a “sorry” from the receptionist. She directed me to email the general manager. I did so and have heard nothing. I will NEVER return and it makes me sad. Also makes me skittish to go to any more of the restaurants in the Jean-Georges Vongerichten empire. The prices are exorbitant and we knew that going in. For a special occasion with good food we are happy to spend the money. What we didn’t know is that food poisoning was part of the experience. Shameful!

A+ at the restaurant, the bar, or in the room..

By Chris F |

Great food and proper cocktails... you will love it. We ate outside in the tents, at the bar and in the room... everything we had was fantastic... you can't go wrong here..

Terrible Bar & Service

By RaezoR57 |

We had just been at Bemelman's Bar @ The Carlyle (which was absolutely overflowing with guests) and walked in to this wall of sound bar / restaurant, the noise level was unbearable. We had two Bloody Marys at a cost of around 45 USD for two, which is par for the course in a NYC cocktail bar. Problem was the drinks were made by a gentleman in a white coat that had no enthusiasm for the job. Sad looking, no eye contact with the guests, nothing. He made, possibly, the worst BM we had ever tasted, bland with no real flavour and heavy on the Vodka! We heard they have some excellent rooms in the hotel, perhaps they could "fix" the bar too.

Beautiful decor

By Don P |

Our preference is to dine at the bar, but took a table due to lack of bar seating. Food, drinks and service were all very good.

Major disappointment . Over rated !

By Fabrice Vitali |

As we were staying in the Mark hotel, we decided to try the breakfast . Although the restaurant was empty, the staff offered to sit us in a dark corner, we asked them to sit us under the veranda to enjoy the sunny skies they moved us right away but it seemed to annoy them, they had an attitude. The eggs benedicts were not cooked at all, the white part of the eggs was raw. The toasts they brought were burnt and the coffee machine had a problem so they could not do a cappuccino . What a disaster from a to Z . We didn't dare to try another meal there.

Great for dinner. Equally as special for lunch

By AmyC723 |

For a Friday night dinner with four people we had a delicious lobster salad followed by simply prepared and delicious scallops. Sightings of the famous abound. Desserts are a must! The soufflé and salt/sweet ice cream were standouts. Also, two signature drinks, names escape me, were loved by all.

Lovely Family Brunch

By TPL1970 |

My husband I have dined at the Mark Restaurant before for dinner. This time, we took our daughters for Sunday Brunch to celebrate my older daughter's birthday. Brunch was just as lovely as dinner! The setting is lovely, the food was delicious, and the service was just perfect. We will definitely be back!!!

Landmark restaurant of Upper East side

By worldcustomer2017 |

One of the landmark restaurants in NY. Always coming back here with pleasure. This time I had the best oysters in a while. Lively and lovely ambiance, this is a must place to go to when in New York.

Well worth the high prices

By Gloria B |

The food is amazing by award winning Chef Jean-Georges. Try the Tuna Tartaki and the Black Truffle Pizza appetizers for a real treat. I had the grilled Sea Bass and it melted in my mouth. I also tasted the Sole and the Salmon that my family were eating and they were superb. Another guest loved the lamb chops. I particularly enjoyed the delicacy and lightness of all the food. Be prepared to pay $40-55 for an entree at dinner. Loved the small Blueberry tart for dessert. Beautiful setting for a special occasion and impeccable service.

$76.00 for glass of bourbon

By Frasc31 |

On Sunday May 6, 2023 I went to the bar inside the hotel for a glass of Angels Envy Bourbon which retails for approximately $47.00 for the bottle. The hotel charged me $82.00 including tax for a single bourbon in the rocks. They even measured it out making it a very week pour while the bartender asked me three times to pay the bill before even finishing my drink.

Still never comes close to Nougatine

By JODI11963 |

The service here is fine. A bit pushy, we needed a minute to catch up and then look at the menu. Even after he told us what we wanted wasn't available he stood there and waited. I had to dismiss him and tell him to now give us another minute to change our order. The food is good, but never as good as nougatine. I have eaten here many times before, and always feel like it's missing the management portion to make the food a bit better and the service a bit more polished. There was no tuna for lunch. I always order some sort of tuna dish at any JG restaurant, because it is always very good. Well there was no tuna at all, so all the tuna dishes on the menu were off limits. Had the chicken coconut soup, they could have done without the rice and added more chicken to the soup. The butter lettuce salad was good. Truffle pizza was also good. Nothing was mind blowing.

A wonderful experience for the New Year

By Rissa D |

The restaurant is so beautifully decorated, the food amazing, the servers incredibly attentive. We order the Crispy Calamari, Truffle Pizza, Fettuccine, and the Warm Chocolate cake. I have zero complaints. I would most definitely suggest that anyone check it out.

Poor Service ...

By Techvestco |

Decent food but very poor service. Had to fight for a table not near the kitchen or the front door. Wrong orders, slow service, impossible to even get a bill, no refills on water or iced tea, no smiles whatsoever. Felt unwelcome (and we were hotel guests!) Oh well. Just like too many restaurants in NYC. But expected much, much more from a JG restaurant.

Disappointing experience

By Brittany S |

We were in town to celebrate my husband’s birthday and selected this restaurant as we’ve been to other JGV restos and had great experiences - this was not one of them: - Bread was stale + butter hard - Service was not what you would expect: we didn’t even have drink menus yet & the waiter was asking us what we wanted for our entrees. That server disappeared halfway through the meal and another server came who didn’t introduce himself. We felt rushed the entire time, despite the restaurant feeling empty. Servers made no attempt to answer our questions or offer any help with the menu. - Food was just okay. I had the halibut which was fine, but my husband was disappointed with his selections. Overall, just very disappointing for the name, prices and expectations. Highly recommend not going - we wish we would have selected elsewhere.

It can be better

By Angelo |

Some friends booked a table , but upon arrival we were told table was not ready, did not confirm bla bla bla...after about 20 minutes table ready....good service, decent food with some ok-ish offers on the menu but nothing spectacular. Nice ambience and decor and interesting crowd from the hotel guests

Perhaps an off evening...

By cdpinNYC |

Special occasion, my wife's birthday. We used to live close, loved the bar, but had never hit the restaurant. It seemed perfect for this year. We got there a little early, hoping to sit in the bar for a drink, but it was packed. Fortunately, they could seat us early. The room is elegant; really beautiful. Comfortable, and pretty quiet. Nice for conversation. We ordered a cocktail and oysters. Big wait; drinks first, but no worry. We ordered dinner. Then, the oddities. The salad came first. Sent back to wait for oysters, that finally came. They were pretty perfect. Another wait for the salad, during which time we ordered some wine. The salads came back, and honestly, they were the same ones we had sent away. Much the worse for wear and time; soggy Boston lettuce and not at all acceptable. Dinner was good; I didn't say spectacular as I expected. My lamb was a bit overdressed with some very nice onions and broccoli rabe - the problem was just too much of it. My wife had veal Milanese; the veal was good, approaching perfect, but again, sitting on a bed of sauteed vegetables and just too much of it. It wasn't an elegant dish; it seemed like they were trying to fill plates. Wine service was very well done. They did take care of her birthday with a nice, small chocolate cake and a wonderful Sauternes. Our waiter was great; a little chatty, but pleasant and what you'd expect from a top restaurant. The service just didn't seem to come together and the food was reaching a little. I think we'll go back, but this wasn't up to expectations.

Disappointing dinner at The Mark

By Travelerfrom10024 |

I ate here yesterday and the food and service were very disappointing for the price point. I would not recommend. When a manager asked about our food and we noted that it was not well prepared, they didn’t take any action. I have had much better experiences in terms of food and service at significantly less expensive places.

Terrible restaurant; the ultimate rip-off

By Clive D |

I have been visiting NYC for about 30 years. I label this place, "Marks Restaurant", the biggest joke, the biggest rip-off in my culinarily history; its so bad, I have to laugh writing this review. To put this in perspective, I had an amazing steak lunch at in my view the best steak house in NYC, for $214.00. It was superb and I have been going there for 20 years. This rip off I spend $212.00 for a plate of prawns on ice, a burger with brie cheese, a soufflé desert, one beer and one glass of red wine. Yep you read this correctly. $212.00 !! If you have so much money, you don't care - good luck. And.... the burger was about as good as McDonalds. Always happy to pay for quality. No problem. But ....................OMG, words fail me.

Great for a special lunch

By Caroline J |

Went here with my mom for a special lunch and had an amazing time! Their sandwiches and fries are sooooooo good! Service from the staff was impeccable

IMPECCABLE!

By JEROME T |

Heard from my colleague that The Mark Restaurant was one of those places in the city that you had to try out, so I made reservation for me and my girlfriend for dinner. It turned out to be a fantastic choice. It was not at all some place that will overwhelm, and ambience was to some extent relaxing. I would strongly suggest dining here. From the service to the food, the experience was impeccable.

Great food and swanky setting let down by expensive wine list and complacent attitude of staff.

By GoPlaces599863 |

Overall an enjoyable experience but could have been so much better if staff had been more engaging and the wine list not having more than 90% of range at $150 plus...

Really nice restaurant

By jcmtl1965 |

I was lucky enough to get a table at this upscale restaurant in the Upper West side on a Sunday night. It helps to have well-connected friends. The room was dim, the noise level was low and the food was amazing. I had calamari followed by linguini. I appreciated that the pasta was offered in a half-portion. I would definitely go back.

Horrible

Had a terrible terrible lobster burger. My companions chicken was dry. Just a horribly disappointing luncheon

Niçoise salad to die for

Lunch over the 4th weekend was again a pleasurable visit and an enjoyable time over a very busy holiday. Exceptional food, great service and a comfortable setting. And, it is out of the din of the shopping crowds ten blocks south.

Beautiful Restaurant with Great Food

By Clementinefox2018 |

This is a beautiful restaurant. Food is excellent, wait staff competent, but not at the top level of attentiveness. Recommend the lamb chops, roast chicken. Pasta sauce bit too salty. Great drinks.

Good but not exceptional

By Rula A |

Ambiance is great especially if you sit in the large room under the skylight, otherwise a bit dim. Wait staff were attentive but sometimes overboard- obvious some are actors! Lots of choices in the menu almost too many with no real theme. Everything we ordered was good although waitress forgot several items (not usual to JG). Location great and ambiance great.

Christmas Day disappointment

By Frandg85 |

Having heard great things about the great Jean George restaurant I was excited to get a booking on Christmas Day for The Mark. I was seated at a table which is in appropriate to have dinner the base is so large there is no leg room. I did not what to sit straddling a table and requested to be moved which was accommodated by the waiter. Other guest were not so lucky I hard another 3 tables complaining about the same issue. The food it's self was ok presented well on the plate. Unfortunately the service let the kitchen down. It was an incredibly long wait for drinks or table service even as the restaurant became less busy. My bottled water was then watered down with tap water by another waiter without even asking. I don't pay for bottled water then wish for it to be mixed with tap water. The cutlery for my main course which was lamb was incorrect I was given a fish knife. I was never asked was the meal to my liking or if everything was satisfactory. I chose to forfeit the 18% service charge as it was not deserved so gave 10% instead I even for thought this was to much given the service had ruined my meal. Only to be chased out the restaurant by the waiter telling me I had not left enough! I told him he was lucky to get anything! Let put it this way I will not be visiting another Jean George restaurant.

Very disappointing Anniversary dinner at the Mark

By Jane Skok |

We visited the Mark restaurant on Sept 23rd. It was our first dinner out since the Covid lockdown and we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have stayed at the Mark many times in the past and since moving to New York have enjoyed visiting the restaurant and bar. However, on this particular evening we were very disappointed. First, we were greeted by an inhospitable maitre d, who refused to seat us as we arrived 25 mins earlier than our appointed booking at 8pm. This, despite the fact that we then spent the next 25 minutes standing on the pavement staring at no less than 4 empty table that never got filled! We were not even asking to be served until the appointed hour but just wanted to rest our feet> The maitre d' condescendingly told us to go and take a walk in the park. We were also really disappointed by the lack of imagination and limitation of the menu. We know this is Covid era but we could have cooked this meal ourselves at home and saved ourselves $400.00. The food was high quality but very boring and not the standard we had expected from a George Jean restaurant.

Don’t go

By Stephanie G |

JG should be embarrassed. I’ve eaten at many of his restaurants in NY and elsewhere and have never had such a negative experience. While the room and service were lovely, and the black truffle pizza delicious, the other courses were barely palatable. The hamachi crudo, beyond being overdressed in sesame oil, was not fresh, and the best that could be said is that its rubbery texture was met with tastelessness. Similarly— while one might look past boring droopy mesclun, a few sad tomatoes and microscopic potatoes as well as no anchovies in the nicoise—the tinny, overdried, very fishy tuna shouldn’t be served at all, let alone cost $29. Bumble bee is tastier (Ortiz even more so), and lingering metallic mouth feel less than pleasant. Waitress very accommodating, manager, not so much.

Excellent food

By chris8648 |

The food here is excellent. Prices are high but represent both the quality of the food and the atmosphere.

Style and substance on a quiet street

By HappyTraveler997 |

The bar at the Mark is wonderful. Style and substance, subtle class and elegance. On a quiet street but close enough to Midtown for business purposes.

Special breakfast

By Robin R |

Return visit to a lovely restaurant. Very good breakfast as one might expect. Improving the coffee service might help. Serving method results in cold coffee and a larger than required production to alter the result.

Fave

By Siana A |

Very cool restaurant so much variety . This is a busy street just around other great landmarks that were also great. If you don’t have much time it’s a good day out nice to know kind of restaurant . The menus are well displayed and you might even visit more than one

poor food

By David Minkovich |

Although it is owned by a celebrity chef and is expensive, this restaurant serves food that is barely edible. Stay away, find another restaurant. I have nothing else to say that will help the situation. The owner needs to sit down and eat a few meals there. But if he has and thinks that the food is good, shame on him, he should know better.

Very nice return visit

By HowE90 |

We have been here about 4 times since it first opened. The "buzz" remains, while serving good food, well-plated in an elegant atmosphere.

Overpriced Average Lunch

By Alexandre D |

My Fiancé and I were looking for a place to have lunch before we walked over to The Metropolitan Museum of Art and decided on The Mark Restaurant by Jean Georges. We were greeted by an unfriendly woman who looked us over twice, I'm assuming judging our attire. We were seated and there was only one other table in the entire restaurant. The service was good, but cold. The food was slightly above average but grossly overpriced. Next time, I will dine somewhere else.

Feels more like a hotel restaurant than a Jean George restaurant

By rhinocar |

I had dinner there last night and while the food was fine, the overall experience felt very mediocre. The main problem is that the service is amateurish at times with no finesse. There were a dozen examples of small mistakes that just made the place seem like they didn't know what they were doing. For instance, they sat me at a table for two when the reservation was for 3. They seemed confused when I pointed that out. Also, they were out of still water in bottles (!)...so tap water was the only option and that tap water was luke warm with no ice. Very strange. Then the server plopped down some amuse bouche without saying what it was or even acknowledging that they had put something down. Same with the bread. All this is fine if you are just expecting a regular hotel restaurant meal but it had none of the grace or charm that you'd expect from a JG restaurant. Also, a restaurant with $50 entrees needs to feel a little more special than it did. It was hugely popular and crowded for a Monday night but I personally would never recommend it given all the other good options in the city.

A Nice Fine Dining Experience

By James W |

Our party of six recently met at the Mark for dinner. It was quite a pleasant change from many other restaurants in NY. We were seated even though our full party was not present! The tables were spaciously separated. The high ceiling and acoustic dampening allowed for normal conversational volume. The wait staff was quite professional and immediately available. As for dinner, everyone did enjoy their meal. I had the cod, and it was delicately prepared and served with spinach. In all, we enjoyed a very pleasant evening.

Classic JG

By Ironman713 |

We had a wonderful dining experience here for our party of six. It was during the July 4th, holiday period, so the restaurant was not busy and therefore the atmosphere was all the more enjoyable. To begin, I had the steamed shrimp with avocado, enoki and champagne dressing... the shrimp tasted much like the meat of a young-tender lobster claw. A great way to begin. For main course, I opted for the grilled lamb chops with smoked chili glaze and broccoli rabe. The lamb was prepared to perfection; slightly charred with chili glaze on the outside, medium heat/pink inside... tender and tasty. Two chops were served atop the rabe, but they were large and contained ample meat. For dessert we shared rhubarb tarts; a nice touch to finish the meal... not too heavy, nor to sweet. All in all, a delightful dining experience was had by everyone in our party.

The Mark Restaurant Experience

By marhow2001 |

After hearing and reading so much good stuff about Jean Georges and his growing eatery empire we decided to check out one of his establishments during our recent holiday visit to Manhattan. The restaurant is located off the lobby of The Mark Hotel, which is a lovely and elegant venue, as is the dining room and lounge. Very comfortable and warm decor and not very crowded made for pleasant dining. The staff was polite and most professional, if not a bit stand offish and cold. Aside from the busboys the folks working there had zero sense of humor and the overall feel of the place was rather cold. We started off with the crab cakes and artichoke appetizers and then had the hamburger and smoked salmon club sandwich. Although the food was good it was underwhelming on all levels, especially at those uptown prices. The main complaint we came away with was the quality and presentation were nothing you couldn't have gotten at a multitude of restaurants in NYC. For instance, the tomato on the club sandwich was pale and tasteless like the variety you get at your local supermarket. I would think Jean Georges would want to serve a decent hot house tomato and not the substandard fare we were served. Disappointing to say the least.

An Upper East Side staple

This is the Upper East Side at it's best: chic, beautiful, great food, expensive. Worth it if you're willing to pay. Their breakfast is particularly good.

Upper East Side Excellence

By crepesuzette78 |

I love everything about this place. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, white table cloth restaurant with excellent wine list and a menu that has something for everyone. In fact, I wish there were little bit fewer items on the menu to make ordering a bit easier. But the food was generously portioned, well seasoned and overall excellent. The team of waiters is very attentive, observant and anticipatory. Overall, just excellent!

Elegant fare in NYC

By chriscaseyatl |

So we only had time for lunch prior to departing NYC. Easily accessible about one block off 5th, at E 77th. Very stylish décor, comfortable yet chic at same time. Excellent and diverse wine list, even by the glass and half-bottles. As a Certified Somm, I appreciate the option to NOT consume an entire bottle at lunch! My salmon lunch special was expertly prepared, and very properly portioned. The Mark burger -- a signature item -- was just the perfect amount of messy (and delicious).

Decor and Ambiance

By johnmark9780 |

Upon arriving at The Mark Restaurant I couldn't help but to notice how impeccable the restaurant looks. We dined in an area called The Atrium which sports a glass ceiling and is perfect for lunch/brunch. Everything we ate was cooked to perfection and the staff was very attentive.

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

A must!! We had an amazing dinner experience! Great tasty food…Shrimp salad, lobster risotto and the key lime pie and pavlova…. oh so good! Great cocktails too! Our server Ardit, was super attentive, on point recommendations and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. We will be back!!!

Disgraceful

By Aventuriste |

Insanely exorbitant prices, inedible food and lousy service. Save yourself the cost and aggravation and just don’t go.

Nice lunch outside

By Kenneth Pages |

I had lunch here while waiting for an afternoon apt. They have nice outdoor seating on 77th. It was a good table for people watching. This was my only experience of having to wait for service. After having been served water I waited for some time and ultimately had to flag a server to take my order. Once that happened the service was excellent and I assume there was confusion as to who was assigned to my table. The food was excellent - I had the caviar egg and a Boston Bibb and arugula salad. They made excellent cocktails (and I highly recommend the bar for drinks and alternative venue for lunch) and there was a very good wine list.

Excellent choice

By Marianne B |

We already knew a head of time that this was an expensive restaurant. Celebrating our 27 anniversary we decided that that would be no issue. And I would say If you can afford it it is worth it. It is located in a part of town where people don’t care about money, and it shows in the clientele. That being said ,you are treated just as well here if you show up in a tuxedo or a scruffy shirt. We didn’t have room for a starter and went straight for the main course. We had the lamb chops and a great wine from Oregon, recommended by the sommelier.Staff was very attentive and needless to say, food was delicious! We were just thinking about dessert when they surprised us with a happy anniversary treat! This is a place you go to if you want to be treated well and enjoy good food that is worth your money. Just a little advice though: perhaps the staff should discuss their indifferences elsewhere than next to someone’s table?

FRAGRANT & TASTY GOLD-STANDARD CLASS

By VKMc |

Is the haze of chic pleasure surrounding you when luncheoning at THE MARK an actual substance?? Why, yes, Gentle Reader, it is! The cute Cocoa stand & luxe bike-cart outside THE MARK RESTAURANT BY JEAN GEORGES got me in the door & my fancy lunch began coming through the très-smart hotel lobby leading to the MARK BAR. It was hard to pass through this lively & artistic entr'acte bar without pausing for a stained-glass aperitif. The recommended “Shanghai Cosmo” was perfect—colorful Plum Sake spiked with Stoli & fruit delights. There I was let in on the QT that the fragrant Mark Lobby is literally perfumed with its very own designated master fragrance, titled alluringly “Jurassic Flower,” as if you could bottle stylish design & market the feeling. Knowing this made the promenade to my table, down the copper+glass entryway of back-lit show-stopper wines & specially cologned carpet quite a lark. I found myself thankfully tucked into a deuce beside the gorgeous sky-lit Madison Room in the back—and was glad of it, because the place became quite crowded & festive with excitement as the lunch-hour unfolded. Even chilly outdoor tables were filled, so European guests could smoke at liberty. Though soon enjoying a little Argentinian 2014 Malbec, a bright full-bodied Finca Decero from Mendoza, I must say, their Whitehall “Tre Leoni” Cabernet Sauvignon has my name on it for next time. After a little Avocado Toast to whet the appetite, I enjoyed perhaps the most austerely simple, exquisitely marketed Salade Niçoise I have ever eaten. I had the distinct sense that each tender lettuce leaf had been artistically placed there by a chef, underneath miniature potatoes & vegetables & some bright Autumnal splash of vinaigrette—although, the non-albacore flaked tuna was a bit quotidian. Dessert, however, was marvelous—a “Cranberry Almond Tart” with Crème Anglaise. Every flavor was alive with freshness & excellent with their good coffee. The Mark was a stellar, soon-to-be-repeated diversion.

One of New York's best from one of the world's best chefs.

By M9276MBbob |

A truly great restaurant serving continental cuisine. Particular favorites include Margarite Pizza for appetizer and Veal Milanese as an entrée. Very popular; reservations essential. If you go, have a cocktail at the bar in the back (bypassing the one as you enter the restaurant. A New York classic.

Ratatouille is a more appropriate name for this restaurant

By Jose-Antonio Buenano |

We had the worst of the evenings at the The Mark Restaurant by Jean Georges on feb 13th 2020. After an average meal and service, we saw a RAT beneath our table which was, to say the least, very chocking. Worst than expected was the reaction of the waiters and manager, who tried to diminish the event, and blame the construction building near by. And yes, I paid the full bill. We did not even get a phone call or an email apologizing. Pathetic.

Great ambience and service

By pchrist0 |

Loved the tuna tartare and the roasted lobster. The egg & caviar received good reviews, and so did the salmon. Service is very attentive and courteous.

They Should Be Ashamed of Themselves !!

By leslie e |

I recently had the unpleasant experience of trying to celebrate my partner's birthday luncheon at this over-priced, sub-standard place! To begin, we were seated at a nice table. Then it went downhill from there... the waiter had no personality and did not seem to know where he was. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water which took quite some time to arrive. We also ordered two glasses of champagne. We then placed our order.. to begin, the tomato soup for myself and the hamachi appetizer for my partner. This was followed by a main course of Caesar salad to which I added an $18.00 portion of grilled shrimp. My partner ordered the salmon sushi. After an extremely long wait, the appetizers were delivered. My partner's hamachi appeared to have mushrooms strewn across the top of it which had not been included in the description of the dish. He has a sever allergy to mushrooms and truffles. When we finally attracted the attention of a server to ask if they were indeed pieces of mushroom, he did not know. He said he would ask the chef. In the interim, my tomato soup was sitting there, so I decided to taste it while it was still (supposedly) hot. Tasteless and tepid!! When the young man did not return for at least 20 minutes, I managed to attract the attention of the initial waiter who said he did not know and would also inquire of the chef. He finally came back after another 15 minutes and said, yes, they were pieces of mushroom. He proceeded to remove the plate and I asked if they could prepare the same dish without the mushrooms. He said he would ask, taking the dish with him. This left my partner with nothing in front of him and I with my bowl of tasteless, tepid tomato soup which had now gotten even less warm! At least 20 minutes passed and I finally called over a suited gentleman (presumably a captain, or something) who apologized and said he would check on the hamachi. When he returned, he said they were preparing it and he would make sure it was removed form the bill. The hamachi finally arrived which my partner proceeded to eat while I sat there with an empty, dirty bowl of soup in front of me. Moving along to the main courses... they arrived a while later. My Caesar salad was okay, overly garlicky and the "grilled" shrimp were small and pale. (For an additional $18.00 charge) The salmon sushi seemed to be acceptable. During this entire time, no one ever came over to see if everything was alright and/or if we were enjoying our food. I also noticed many of the other tables being served bread and butter which we never received. There seems to be an inordinate number of men in ill-fitting suits walking around not doing much of anything. Our original waiter disappeared completely mid-way through the meal.. A couple were seated near us and left after being totally ignored for at least 15 minutes. Another couple had to ask for menus after at least 20 minutes. In my opinion, the restaurant is rising on it's "Upper East Side" notoriety. Mr. Vongerichten and his staff should be ashamed of themselves!! The prices are slightly RIDICULOUS!. The food is truly MEDIOCRE and the service is SUB-STANDARD!!! Do your self a favor and DO NOT GO !!!!!

Amazing Dinner, Lovely Decor !

By CC120192 |

I had brought my grandmother here for her 77th Birthday. She loved the setup and decor. Especially with all the BEAUTIFUL flowers all around. I was surprised that everything I had noted in my reservation was acknowledged by the staff and kitchen. Service was top notch and the restaurant was exciting and buzzing. I personally loved the cripsy sushi and tuna tartare. My grandmother enjoyed the steamed shrimp salad. The Enoki mushrooms made it REALLY enjoyable ! We will love to come back !

Comfort Food, Personalized Service

By attractiveknocko2016 |

I spent an afternoon at the Mark with my boss and 2 other colleagues having meetings in his suite. We then wound up our day with a meal at the Jean George Restaurant. Its a gorgeous and huge restaurant with a menu to please everyone. My favorites were the Crispy sushi and the roasted cauliflower. My boss was called by his name which was nice! The manager (Mr. Lamba, as I asked for his card later) stopped by our table and greeted us. We mentioned to him that we were waiting for our drinks which he then rushed and came back with some Indian samosas. He also mentioned that the New York Times had done a story on samosas today. These were such a great surprise and my colleague actually checked his app to see that the story was indeed there. Another highlight were the unassuming desserts which tasted great. The ginger creme brûlée and cheesecake with figs were awesome. I am definitely going back and look forward to Mr. Lamba's and all the staff's hospitality again.

super chic bar and restaurant

By VTwelltravelled |

Since I was at the hotel for several nights, I tried the bar and restaurant my second night and was not disappointed. Delicious salad, spicy tuna tartare and one of the best Manhattans I've ever had. I went back the next night just for drinks and they bartender literally remembered my drink orders from the night before. Great atmosphere and attentive servers. A bit shout out to Barbara who make be "talkative" but warmed my heart and was first rate - she made my second night. Top quality food and drink - a bit pricey for drinks but hey, you are paying for this area of Manhattan!

The service was very poor

By LondonPilot |

We were staying at the hotel and called to make a reservation. We were told that the only time available was 6 PM. A friend who is a local called on my behalf and immediately we were offered a table at 8 PM. Upon arrival we were left to wait at the door and then taken to a rotten table around the back of the restaurant where we were completely isolated. There were four other tables available and we were told they would soon be filled. In fact there were many tables available. I'll starters were good, however when they served the main course, my friend had mash potatoes however without a spoon to serve them! We had no salt and pepper on the table and when I had th tenderloin steak and asked for mustard, I was told that Americans don't usually have mustard with hamburgers. The service was poor and the cost of $360 for two was inappropriate given the poor service I was embarrassed for my guest with the restaurant and very disappointed. You are better at polo.

Food great, staff needs improvement, ambience awful

By Susan K |

I celebrated my 60th birthday at The Mark Restaurant with my son and daughter-in-law. I confess that I allowed the high price per plate convince me that this was going to be an elegant dining experience. I won't do that again! We had to snake our way through a cramped little bar to get to the dining room. There was no visible station at which to stop and be received--just a computer stuffed into a corner with someone dressed like a server standing by. As we were led to our table, what struck me most was the noise level. The place sounded like a cafeteria--plates and glasses clinking, loud talking. There were too many servers rushing around. It reminded me of the main dining room of a cruise ship. Unfortunately we were seated by a door that led back to the Mark Hotel so there was a lot of coming and going. Also there was a computer by the door and wait staff often congregated there and had conversation. A slightly sour-faced server came and took our order and was somewhat attentive. The sommelier made sure we knew he was incredibly knowledgeable about wines. The food came and mine was delicious. That's the only reason I would return to The Mark, but it's not reason enough for me to do so. It was not elegant and for the price, it was only moderately classy. For my birthday, they gave me a candle and two chocolate chip cookies, for which they claim to be famous. As we left, we stood at the exit watching staff member talking to each other for nearly half a minute before any of them noticed we were standing and waiting to get our coats. Then back through the cramped bar where we saw a barefoot woman with her feet up on the couch--just a little too casual for my taste. Price does not equal high quality. It was an expensive lesson, but it was a lesson learned nonetheless.

My worst restaurant experience in New York

By jeromesh2001 |

I'm staying in the hotel for a week, I have the restaurant reserved by concierge, I was expecting at least something coherent and correct. But when I arrived , I was given a corner drink table for diner. Anyway , after talking to the manager , I was switched to another table. However , the service was really slow and bad. And I think it's the hotel's style to pour water on the table. I have even eating a week at the breakfast, I always got wet when they pour the water for me. Anyway I finished quickly my dinner, which was not worth the name of jean George, and I need ask for 3 times the bill, and waited for 20 Minutes for the bill to come, and then a fourth time to let them change the bill because I am a in house guest! Anyway, it's the worst dining experience for me in New York. Highly not recommended !!

Great ambiance, so-so food, poor value

By podleyblumstone |

Had lunch here with some family members, some of which were older parents, and the setting was ideal. A very pretty room, quiet, with outstanding service. However the food was so-so, and the prices were quite steep: we had lunch sandwiches that ran $30 each, and they weren't unusually tasty or filling.

Always a sure thing

By LondonHH72 |

Been coming since it opened years ago. In a city where restaurants come and go, The Mark continues to hold its place at the top. Great scene, great food, great service. Always a sure thing no matter what time of day. Brunch, lunch, dinner- all are terrific. Benjamin, the manager is the best, and so is the truffle pizza.

Paying for the name

By Jamiednewyork |

We had dinner last night at The Mark. The service was extremely mediocre. Several times I had to call the waiter over. The bread tasted stale and the ridiculously overpriced dishes are really not worth it. You’re just paying for the name but spend your $$$ elsewhere.

Nice

By ORH |

We had dinner which was good but not excellent as expected. Decir is impressive, service is attentive, huge selection of wine but you'd expect more at a restaurant if this level. Price is very high.

Smoking permitted at a Patio table

By Tamir B |

While the Patio at the Restaurant at the Mark Hotel (themarkrestaurantnyc.com) is a lovely venue for a special occasion, our dinner this evening was marred by two people smoking (a cigarette and a cigar) at the table in front of us, despite the obvious NYC laws that forbid it. I immediately got a headache and another diner behind us could not stop coughing. We asked our waiter (Tony) to have the Restaurant Manager (Rina Careri ) intervene, yet 20 minutes passed and she was nowhere to be found. We kept on asking other staff to locate her – but to no avail. Someone finally came over, but instead of being emphatic and advising the smokers to immediately Cease & Desist, he engaged them in casual conversation while they... continued to smoke. We reserved the Patio for a celebratory occasion, it proved to be anything but. Stay Away!

The Pricing is Out of Hand while the Food has Slipped!

By Cornelius M |

I have been going to this restaurant for several years and have always loved it. Our latest visit was disappointing for 2 reasons. 1) Although the food is still very very good, it is a notch below what we have enjoyed in the past. The tuna tartare is still heavenly and the profiteroles are out of this world delicious. However, the main course, my favorite Mark cheeseburger which was $25 a few years ago and is now $40, lacked the flavor of former visits. My wife also felt that her salad was not of the same quality. 2) The prices have gotten out of hand. My wife ordered a martini and when the waiter asked what kind of gin she would like, she asked for a recommendation. He recommended a particular one. She said she would try it. On the bill, it came to $42 for a single drink! (Martinis made with other gin or vodka were $25 as were most cocktails.) We complained and they very nicely removed the surcharge. Waiters have been instructed not to mention the price of anything unless asked. Entrees are running 40-60 and first courses 20-30 with soup the only exception. We love Jean Georges restaurants and have recently enjoyed ourselves at Perry Street and Jo-Jo. However, as much as we like it, we will not be returning to the Mark where dinner for 2 with one drink is running $250. I noticed that the dining room was not as full on a Saturday night as it used to be. Perhaps this is the reason.

Wow....what an incredible meal.

By Suefowl |

Had a marvelous dinner and lunch here. Service was excellent and food was amazing. Restaurant is relatively quiet which was a nice change.

Not worth the $$$$

By Joejacobs2014 |

Over priced place to be seen. Young bartenders ignored us. Miniature over priced poorly prepared cocktails. Entrees cold and burger buns burnt. The notable chef should be embarrassed.

The perfect iconic New York lunch

By Nena C |

My friends and I had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon - it was perfect. The food, ambiance, service - all excellent. Pricey, but if you are looking for a treat, you've found it!

RIDICULOUS

By doug100worth |

Dinner for 4 at table 32 tonight took 3 hours. Two of us had artichokes with mustard sauce. The sauce was brought in a tiny container and I had to ask for two more. Service was terrible and it took 15 minutes. I had a lobster burger, one of our friends had pasta, one had sashimi one had pizza. Clearly, there was something wrong between our server and the folks in the kitchen. We had the sense that they were punishing her and we were victims. Also, the chairs are peculiarly designed and most uncomfortable. They know this and have designed pillows if you ask. RIDICULOUS

Upscale French Healthy Restaurant

Boutique hotel with a nice restaurant in an enclosed patio, plenty of light warm environment. Try the avocado toast with salmon or their veal milanese, For something different, try the home made ginger ale.

Mother’s Day menu fit for a Queen

By Doc_Riyadh_SA |

We three reveled at the superb food and service at The Mark.a canapé of Damon topped with caviar to start; followed by ‘Russ and Daughters’ Norwegian Smoked Salmon and a wonderful delicate terrine foie gras. For entrees slowly cooked salmon in an amazing ginger-chili vinaigrette and roasted Maine lobster over a Meyer lemon risotto with caramelized fennel. If that were not enough, we completed this feast with warm chocolate lava cake with ice cream and a strawberry shortbread filled with mascarpone cream, lemon thyme meringue. What a wonderful dinner and with marvelous personalized service.

Disappointing

By trip |

The ambiance was very romantic and the tables were spread apart. That is the good news. The bad news, two of the dishes arrived cold. A third, didn’t have the vegetables explained by the server. They replaced the vegetables but rather than just replacing the vegetables, they took the entire plate and then recooked the lobster entree by cooking a second time. A fourth dish was undercooked. They brought it back again, undercooked! For a restaurant that is named after one of the top chef’s in NYC, it was a very disappointing experience.

Excellent Food and Service - BAD Table management

By ssbelltx |

With indoor dining just reopened at 25% I was completely frustrated that in the main dining room with most of the tables empty that continued to seat 2 groups on either side of us rather than seating them further away. I understand their desire to preserve 4 tops for larger parties BUT it was unnecessary on this evening. This place is expensive- you should expect that and if you look at the menu you should know. But with that, you are reasonable to expect a higher level of attention and detail. We started with the Osetra Caviar and then 2 main courses (Scallops and Sea Bass) and then shared a bottle of wine ( 1 glass is about what 1 bottle retail costs and the bottles even more) - and shared two desserts. Service was excellent, unobtrusive, and followed mask and glove mandates. Overall a lovely evening. I just can't get over the seating of people near us in a virtually empty restaurant.

Great neighborhood restaurant

By IsaManhattan |

If money is no object, this hotel restaurant will satisfy your culinary dreams with a well-thought out menu and wines by the ($$$) glass.

Great food , but loud.

By buckclose |

This is, as you'd expect , a great restaurant. We had a small dinner in back room privately last year and they did a great job. However, even in the private room , with the door closed, it was loud. Service was impeccable and food was over the top. When it's just us we sit at bar in the restaurant ( not front bar) because we forget to make resides. They are always nice and service excellent. Super expensive, but , you get what you pay for.

stay away and save your money

By cocos267 |

simply terrible, went there with my elderly parents. All our food arrived cold and i suspect simply just reheated so by the time it arrived warm was overcooked and inedible. How you can go so wrong with burgers and steak is beyond me. A simple offering of dessert for free would have gone a long way but this seems beyond the thoughts of the staff. For a restaurant that charges well over $100.00 per person this is simply unacceptable. Stay away

It's in the mark hotel

By ScottBKnows |

I have no clue how this eatery was not on my radar. What struck me most about this eatery is each individual flavor and fixing was so clearly the freshest and best form of itself. You can truly tell when places you go have remarkable food. Also, The Mark utilized them especially well. It was one of the best lunch I have had in NYC and I exceedingly prescribe it in case you're heading off to The Met or surrounding area. Hell, this place is justified regardless of an uncommon outing to the Upper East Side just to attempt it.

The best place to start the day

By Arlene624 |

Breakfast was not only beautiful but also delicious. Service was quick. The restaurant is quiet and intimate. A great place to begin the day .

Excellent breakfast

By RGSOUNDF |

We have been staying at The Mark for 2 nights, and picked Jean-Georges' restaurant for our first breakfast. Arguably, the best NYC breakfast experience, and throughout the years we have explored dozens and dozens of Manhattan restaurants for breakfast; The Mark easily beats its competitors. Not only due to the relaxed, comfortable, tastefully decorated dining area with the see-through glass ceiling, not only due to the impeccable service and well trained staff anticipating every possible wish of a customer, not only due to the great food, fresh, elegant, prepared perfectly and served admirably, but last and not least due to the restaurant's price tag, commendably budget-friendly. The Mark Breakfast includes "Two Organic Eggs Any Style Served with Roasted Potatoes, Boston Lettuce Wedge/Choice of Flying Pigs Farm Ham, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Salumeria Biellese Chicken or Pork Sausage, Toast (Seven Grain, White, Rye, Sourdough, Pumpernickel, Gluten Free, English Muffin or Bagel), Freshly Squeezed Juice (Orange, Grapefruit, Carrot), and La Colombe Coffee or Organic Teas" and is attractively priced at $29, which is a real bargain for NYC's restaurant of that rank, and even a greater bargain for Upper East Side. Highly recommended. We will come again, hopefully, in 2 weeks.

Fancy but mediocre

By Gourmand |

Was looking forward to drinks this evening at the Mark having heard a lot about the bar. I left thoroughly unimpressed. To start off with, I was served a very flat prosecco so had to poibt it out. Then, the whiskey cherry sour was not a sour but an old fashioned so again had to bring this to attention. The inattentive, inconsistent service and frankly speaking average quality of drinks isnt worth it. Like with much in the city, there sometimes is more hype than actual quality.

Terrible food at outrageous prices

By Shea |

We thought we would try this place again since it used to be very good except for our last visit. We returned February 23, 2021. Since my black bass last time was horrible, I opted for the $38 cheeseburger. How bad could it be? My spouse opted for a fusilli pasta dish since her salmon last visit was a disaster. We started with a Caesar salad and a kale salad which both were marginal at best due to wilted greens. The fusilli finally arrived after a lengthy wait only to be lukewarm, overcooked and tasteless! My cheeseburger was over cooked, dry and very tasteless. In fact, it didn’t even taste like beef! Sawdust and breadcrumb filling maybe? Fries were the same as Macdonald’s, nothing special and were lukewarm at best. We strongly regret not having returned the food and left. All we can say is, Don’t Go there! Never again for us.

Unfriendly and dishonest staff

Food took a long time to arrive, staff was very agressive and tried to add two items they never brought to the table and said they cancel from the bill, they bring the bill and the items are there, i try to explain to the manger and he got angry i even complained, very bad service, totally understaffed

Delicious brunch

Second time we have been but first for brunch. We all ordered different food and all was delicious. The room is gorgeous and do ask to eat in the atrium/conservatory if eating in the day, Staff courteous and nothing too much trouble.

What a place

By drjsaleh |

We just walked into the Mark, for lunch, without any prior knowledge about it. The place is so cosy, ambience is relaxing. The service was so good, waitresses were helpful in explaining the menu. Food was top class quality and taste. All over experience is very positive

Birthday

By claredoole |

I am from New Zealand and after reading excellent reports on food and service took a party of six to your restaurant tonight. It was my birthday. The booking was made in the name of Baker, it is the 27 November. Our reservation was at 7.45 pm. The restaurant was pretty empty all the time we were there. I along with another guest had the lobster risotto as a main course., Unfortunately the lobster risotto at $59, was overcooked and dry, which made it very hard to cut , chew and digest. Also the octopus appetiser I had first, was the same, overcooked, tough and tasteless. We were not offered coffee or tea at the end of the meal, nor liqueurs , which we went elsewhere to enjoy as we were the last patrons in the restaurant and felt uncomfortable and not encouraged to stay. The managers' disparaging comments about the hotel we are staying in, were unacceptable. He said it was like staying in a mall, the busiest hotel in NYC, and he only stayed in such places when he was 25. We are staying in the Marriott Marquis at Times Square, and I find it perfectly acceptable. I thought it an unnecessary comment for him to make, considering we were paying his wages. As his restaurant was by then empty, perhaps he should think carefully about encouraging guests, rather than criticising their choice of accommodation. The worst part of the evening occurred, when along with the desserts my guests had ordered, I was served a cupcake with a candle in it. It was my birthday, however I had not ordered anything as I don't like desserts. And I didn't eat it. Imagine my surprise when I checked the bill and found I had been charged $13 for said cupcake, having not even ordered it. I complained and asked for the charge to be removed from my bill. I remain most disappointed by the whole experience, and feel my birthday celebrations were spoilt by the poor food and service I received. I would not return, and will advise my travelling friends not to go there either. In my country, such an arrogant attitude would not receive a tip at all. Clare Doole. Auckland New Zealand.

Outstanding restaurant in NYC

By French S |

We had a wonderful meal at this Jean Georges restaurant in The Mark Hotel. I had the veal chop and my wife ordered the sea bass. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. Our appetizer and sides were delicious as well. The service was excellent. If your willing to pay for excellent food and service with a fine dinning experience, then this Jean Georges restaurant on the upper east side of NYC is where you need to dine.

Brunch was elegant but pricey.

By bewtrip |

Went here for brunch with my family on a Sunday around 11:30. Service was slow, but not an issue since we wanted to visit a bit anyway. The menu options were typical brunch food: eggs, omelets, pancakes, french toast, etc. Food was OK - nothing special. Prices were exorbitant, and portions on the small side. The ambiance was wonderful, very luxurious and comfortable. Worth it if you want to spend time with friends or family.

The Height of UES Chic

By Sue K |

Having lunch at the Mark is a New York experience, at once old fashioned luxury and 21st C. modern. The decor is all clean lines but detains a sense of warmth. On the high side in price, it delivers beautiful food served with grace.

Is The Mark Restaurant still reliable

By Richard L |

Back to the Mark Restaurant which has always been a reliable neighborhood restaurant, but this evening with invited friends turned out otherwise. Best to start with the service which was not up to the usual standard. The amuse-bouche was almost tossed on the table, left without description. Salads ok. The main course arrived an hour after we finished the appetizers. The food was cold, the hamburgers were not cooked as requested, French fries were limp and soggy, the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were also limp and not well presented. The staff at all levels attending our table were not attentive. An attempt to make amends was lame. The good news is that the tables are not close so we did have good table conversation. Perhaps we were just unlucky and this experience was a rare event.

An excellent choice

By DavidWashingtonDC |

Something for everyone in an elegant set of rooms. The atrium is the most desirable. Each offering is thoughtful designed and executed with first quality ingredients. In many cases these renditions are far better that the local high end east side competition Prices are standard for the UES - so dinner for two is expensive. The wine list does not offer good value but is not outrageous either. Service is excellent.

A High Priced Dump

By bankruptcy |

Had dinner with our friends for their 50th wedding anniversary and we were embarrassed. The restaurant was hot and stuffy and reeked of garlic. Service was bad and the food was simply ok. My appetizer was trash, main courses were good and desserts were not good at all. We asked that a dozen roses be delivered to the table and the hostess would have blown it if I had not gotten up from the table to remind her. We ordered coffee and tea that never appeared. Service was very bad by the end of the meal! Suggest that the staff take some lessons at the Jean Georges at the Trump to get it right. A total disorganized mess.
