Great downtown dining

By Camper12661738321 |

Low key ambiance but really great experience. Very attentive service and the server took each question seriously. The Espresso Martini was just fantastic with a true espresso crema on top. Everyone had fish and everyone had something different. Everyone enjoyed the meal. Only one downside: add another ice cream flavor, coffee would be perfect.

Cosy neighbourhood restaurant with a great atmosphere

By Leila B |

We arrived late for our reservation but the reception staff were very accommodating and so friendly. We had a small wait in the bar area which was vibrant. When we were showed to our table it was lovely. Really cosy restaurant which is candle lit. You can hear the chat around the restaurant but it was at the perfect level to create atmosphere and you could still hold a conversation. Our waiter was very pleasant and looked after us well. The food was delicious and all in all it was a great evening and I am very glad we chose this place for our first night in New York. You can tell this place has a lot of history and the fact that it was very busy shows it is still very much a popular place to dine. The staff are really nice and welcoming and I would recommend this restaurant to colleagues, family and friends.

Great Realxing Bar

By SigEpGov |

The restaurant is medium in size with a smaller bar. I did not eat here but will say the seating area looked inviting. While the bar was busy, the crowd was filled with folks just getting off from work and gave a nice easy feel to the place. Staff was friendly and the service and refills were fast. I would come back here. Would like to try it for dinner.

Great Tribeca Restaurant

By Cheryl E |

Started with salad, then Pan Roasted Faroe Island Salmon and grille asparagus. Great service - price in range for the area. First time there with a regular - so that helped. Hope to return.

Still around after all these years

By EANYC |

It was probably not the best of ideas to pick Odeon for a dinner among five friends who had not seen each other in a long while; it was not so much the large round table at which we were seated as the unbearable noise. Perhaps I had more tolerance for loud noise the last time I dined at Odeon, but this time noise overtook every sensation. Odeon is a pretty place, made to look like a Parisian brasserie; the fact that it is still so popular attests to the continuing fascination of New Yorkers for French brasseries. The service is efficient and attitude-free. The food is unremarkable, and this was the general view around the table - my steak tartare certainly was; and the fact it was served with mayonnaise and ketchup on the side means that diners expect it to be unremarkable. The prices are not New-York high, but they are high for the food and noise. I'd much rather pay slightly more and go to Café Boulud next time

I Have Loved The Odeon for 35 years!!!!!

This ultra venerable NYC establishment has seen many others, come and GO!!! The always vibe, and, retro atmosphere, of this place, is LUXE, CHIC, and, FUN!!!!!

Consistency Throughout the Years

By Tom L |

Odeon has been doing their thing for many years. We re-visited after an absence of a couple decades. I am pleased to report that they are still doing their thing with consistency. On a Friday night the place was packed & humming with good energy. Our table was ready. We settled in. Our choices for the night were frisee salad, moules frites & roasted half chicken. All were pronounced excellent in their preparation, presentation & flavour. The kitchen knows how to deliver. Throughout the night we were served by the very informed & pleasant Sabrina. Her service was on point. This is a reliable brasserie that will send you home satisfied.

Pricey but retains a buzz

By Aitele |

The arty crowd almost completely drowned by the pinstriped brigades, hipsters and wide-eyed tourists who all combine to give it a modern buzz. Cool, professional, service and reliable brasserie food reflect the higher prices.

One of Best Burgers

By Max D |

Been looking for best burger in city and I feel this is it or at least one of the best. Burger Joint and Corner Bistro are other contenders. The beef patty is nice and big. Juicy but not overly juicy. I hate when too much oil comes out, The bun feels big and maybe a crushed potato bun with sesame be better? In all, a very fine burger with the basics LTO and ketchup. I like mine with bacon and no cheese. This is hard to find these days with the burger places trying to be different with caramelized onions and special sauce. No thanks. I just want a finely cooked beef patty with the basics and a decent sized bun so it doesn’t feel like I’m eating the entire bread basket. The fries are actually awesome. Very rare. Usually when the burger is great, the fries suck. I would love to try their other stuff here but will either come late or less busy hours. They are quite popular so expect crowds at the bar and tables at prime hours. Service is perfect. I got a trainee but she was even better than the regulars.

Excellent - Per Usual

By BlondieandTiggersdad |

I live in the Tribeca neighborhood of NYC and have eaten hundreds of meals at this establishment over the past 25 years - the fact that I've never reviewed it before is an oversight on my part, and shall be fixed today! The truest testament to the Odeon is its staying power over the nearly three decades its been in its current location - not many NYC establishments, or restaurants in ANY city, can make that claim! The bar is always hopping - but the bartender usually recognizes me and gets my martini ready for me as I approach! I'm fine eating at the bar if I'm dining solo or with a friend, but usually opt to take dinner dates or professional associates to a table. My favorite tables are the corner banquette near the door, or one of the 4 tops by the front window - or the Thomas St corner outside in summer. The nightly specials are wonderful, but I usually have steak frites and a tartare to start. Roya - the DM manager, is one of the stars of this establishment - not only for her sweet persona but also for the INSANE good vintage wardrobe she dons!! I enthusiastically recommend the restaurant to anyone dining in Tribeca - its a NYC classic in every way!

Old-fashioned elegance, with service to match

By TravelingLily2014 |

My husband and I used to eat at Odeon when we lived a few blocks away, back in the late eighties. It was wonderful to re-visit this iconic restaurant and find it much the same. We went for Sunday brunch and had superb service, with lots of smiles. Food was served quickly and cooked to our preferences. Everything was delicious. The coffee was as we remembered; nice and strong and just plain good. I ordered the lemon tart for dessert, although part of me worried that it wouldn’t be the same wonderful tart I remembered….but yes, it was! Just as creamy, just as delicious, with that lemon flavor bursting through. We truly enjoyed the experience, especially the staff. Our server was on summer break from Brown, and another server we spoke with was a Trinity student. It was wonderful to be back at Odeon and to see how it has withstood 9/11, the city’s economic woes, and now Covid. Bravo, Odeon!

Consistently good meal

By Voyager178373 |

Stopped by for a midweek dinner. Baby was sleeping so we sat outside. Service was a little slow but the food was fantastic as always. I had the burger. It was juicy and had so much taste. My better half had the purple sticky rice bowl. He said it was one of the best dishes he’s had in a really long time. Can’t go wrong with the Odeon....

Old school NYC restaurant in Tribeca

By Pierpaolo A |

Authenticity is what you breathe in this authentic venue, with good food and excellent service. It's like a flashback to old NYC.

Overrated, overblown mediocre food. Unable to talk while eating

By I_viajera2012 |

A place full of noise in which to eat becomes a hell for the senses, barely 15 cm separate you from the next table, which makes it impossible to have a conversation with your companion and if we add a fairly regular meal the result is an overrated and overexploited and of course, very expensive place. Seeing the Michellin award, I thought the food would be good at least. I wouldn't come back, or recommend it to anyone.

Reliable and trusty spot

By foodieinTR |

A mainstay in tribeca since the 80's, the odeon is still buzzing. Lovely bar, beautiful people and good food. The salmon was spectacular, but t the steak was just ok. Didn't feel dry aged, neither did it taste like prime beef. But the salmon was spectacular. Great wine menu tho and acceptable prices for tribeca make this a go to spot.

Overpriced for what it is

By DP710 |

This is your typical NYC restaurant, always busy, looks lovely but the food is incredibly average. I would go here for lunch but skip dinner for something with more flavour and character.

good, classic food

By X375IEelizabethg |

Ate dinner here on a weeknight at the bar. The food is classic French food and very good. Would go back.

Thank you for existing

By Rachel |

Recently walked in unbeknownst that is was their 30th anniversary party where they served champagne to the whole restaurant. Memorable, iconic and so happy this still exists. Please don’t ever close

Excellent value for money

By Mara K |

We visited The Odeon on our last night in NYC, for their lobster roll! Let me tell you it did not disappoint! There were big chunky pieces of lobster in a pillowy soft bun with a lemon mayo. It was fantastic! We also had a few drinks and a dessert each. For the quality of food and the service the price the meal cost was exceptional value for money!

As good as I remember it being

By FancyBlueViolet |

Have not been to Odeon in n more than 10 yes but it is still as good now as it was then. Had a quick lunch and a glass of wine. This place is definitely one of the good old spots to dine when in Tribeca. Lunch time was packed, glad i got in before 1:00 PM.

Maybe a Revamp?

By courtney9384 |

Have been coming here for years, particularly when I lived in the city in the mid 00's. I came back last year as I always likethe food, but maybe a little update is needed...

Excellent food

By 310Andy018 |

This was our first visit to Odeon & it was generally a happy experience. The decor was warm & the ambience lively. The hostess did a great job fulfilling our request for a certain table. Our appetizers & main courses were superb. The only problem was with the service. One of our drinks appeared, 10 minutes later the other one showed up. Again with our main courses, one appeared, the other not until much later. Our servers were very apologetic. The hostess comped our deserts. Unfortunately neither was up to the standards of the rest of our meals. But we enjoyed our time there & will return.

Lovely, French-style brunch spot

By ThePackedBag |

Brunch is such a big thing in NYC these days, so every one is doing their thing and here they do it pretty well. I ordered my go to: poached eggs, smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. However, here they bizarrely served it with very thin fries in a pot. Not sure it's a combination I can get behind so I treated them as separate dishes. The decor and ambience (French bistro) and service are all good.

Excellent restaurant!

By Steven S |

Went here for lunch with wife, daughter and grandson after visiting the 9-11 Memorial and Museum. The place was hopping...as people left others came in. The food was excellent and our server took very good care of us. The next time I am in New York I will go out of my way to have lunch here! Highly recommended!!!

Great food and service, in good location

By Florencia P |

Had a great brunch experience. The food and attention were great. The place is nicely decorated, lovely french style. I recommend the avocado toast, but the menu has amazing options.

Lunch at the still great Odeon

By seanworc |

I had lunch here today. It is a French brasserie. Although it is started in 1980, it looks as if it is as old as La Couple in Paris. This was the place where the Downtown literary and artistic communities hung out. Bright Lights, Bright City crowd. Food and service are great, very professional and first rate. First time I have been here in 20 years and it still has its magical charms. Please check it out.

Dis-Liked The Soup, Loved The Lamb.....

By WasOnce |

Business dinner with the boss-man picking up the tab so why not begin with a bottle of Sancerre (my favorite wine)? I started with the soup special (chipotle chicken) and was disappointed with what amounted to a whole lotta overpowering, unsatisfying fire broth. However, the Porterhouse lamb chops were delicious and the accompanying green garbanzo bean/pea/mint mélange was a refreshing treat. My co-workers each enjoyed their entrees and each of them ordered dessert which they raved about, and I resisted. Our waiter was perfect: knowledgeable, friendly, unstuffy and efficient.

Brunch at The Odeon Restaurant

By Samantha Elizabeth |

While visiting NYC, I decided to grab brunch with my relatives at The Odeon Restaurant, a French-American Bistro located in TriBeCa. The tables were covered with white tablecloth. The environment was rather relaxing and they provided magazines to read while you wait for food. Our server Kiowa was polite, friendly, and hospitable. For drinks, we ordered bottles of still water, iced teas, a draft beer, and Odeon Punch Mocktail. The Odeon Punch consisted of a blend of grenadine, pineapple juice, club soda, and lime juice and garnished with cherries and lime wedge. My dad ordered a Steak Tartare, which consisted of raw all natural black angus beef, shallots, egg yolk, capers, parsley, dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar, and salt and served with homemade croutons. It was amazing. My mom ordered a Country Frisée Salad, which consisted of frisée, diced fatty bacon, and croutons lightly tossed in bacon vinaigrette and topped with a poached egg. I ordered a French Onion Soup Gratinee, which consisted of a savory beef broth, onions and crouton with melted gruyere cheese. I loved how the broth was sweet rather than salty. The other guests shared a Cheeseburger served with crispy fries. We ended our meal on a sweet note - two orders of warm sugar dusted doughnuts served with a maple and a raspberry dipping sauce. I loved how the doughnuts weren't too doughy.

Early Dinner After Seeing “Six”, The Musical

By David B |

Came for an early dinner after seeing Six on broadway. Have been here numerous times, but not as much as my wife. Ordered oysters for myself, my wife ordered gem Caesar and shared with my daughter. My daughter had Mac no cheese and my wife and I each had a cheeseburger, it was that kinda day to have comfort food. For dessert we shared their profiteroles, yummy goodness. Alert service and great food, will be back sometime in the future.

Very Correct French Bistro

By Thomas V |

A very classic bistro with classic French/American food well-prepared. Super popular and full, so make a reservation. Beautiful interior. All the food we ordered was quite good. Excellent service. Expensive,

Great dinner experience

By Miramar |

They don't take reservations specifically for outdoor seating but you can make a standard reservation and put in the notes that you prefer outdoor seating, but of course this is no guarantee. The ability to dine outside is important to me, as I don't currently do indoor dining. My reservation was for 5pm and I when I was seated they were not yet busy. Of course as the night went on, both the outdoor and indoor seating filled up. The outdoor seating is covered along the front and along the side of the building. The service was attentive without being intrusive. I really enjoyed everything that I ordered. The espresso martini was one of the best I've had with a very robust espresso flavor. The French Onion soup was average but tasty. My main course I had the NY Strip steak with frites and added the au poivre sauce. The steak was perfectly cooked and the frites nice and crispy. What to choose for dessert presented a conundrum, as there were a number items I liked. Ultimately I chose the profiteroles and was not disappointed. I look forward to returning here in the future and trying other items as well.

A pure Restaurant

By vailwood |

The location is Tribeca, the layout is very good, the staff is professional and correct. The menu is complete. The wine list respectable. For a good meal, in a traditional good restaurant, this is the place.

Still Love The Odeon

By janeblogs |

I just love the Odeon and it I miss it so much no longer living in NYC. I used to come all the time in the 90's & early 00's so it is always a trip down a very happy memory lane. The menu doesnt change and neither has the crowded, happy vibe even as the decades have moved on for both the restaurant and we customers! One can always sit at the bar and strike up great conversations with others while awaiting a table or just having a drink. Martinis and Moules are old faves for me and it is a happy place. Crowded, buzzy & fun as great neighbourhood haunts should be and its one of the few still standing in that area from back in the day!

Classic Diner Feel With Modern French Touches

By Monica Hughes |

I’ve been to The Odeon a couple of times, both of which were amazing. The food is consistent, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is great! The Odeon has done a remarkable job at keeping the old diner design while also maintaining a modern French vibe. I recommend and will be back here in the future.

Oui!!

By Thegoodegg |

Ate here last night. Loved it. Great vibe, service was excellent. Menu options so good it is hard to choose. Moules, delish. Had a simple salad with paillard, also excellent. Onion soup total classic. Would absolutely eat here again. It was a rainy night and this was the perfect dinner.

Good but not great

By bootooyoo |

Nice buzzy New York restaurant. Cocktails were great and starters were all good. Disappointed by the Mac and cheese which was pretty tasteless and a bit dry. Other entrees steak and mussels were very good. Profiteroles amazing. We were at the restaurant to celebrate a big birthday, sadly the restaurant did nothing to mark this in spite of us alerting them in advance. I guess they don’t feel they have to make the extra effort as the place was packed on a Monday night!

Dinner at the Odeon

By Norma P |

Food was really good and hot, service was excellent and very polite staff, We had not booked but were very obliging on Christmas day

Trendy spot with decent food.

By sophiegirl0814 |

Very friendly attentive (at times over bearing) staff. I have been here before in the past. We came in about 4:30 in the afternoon. Was not crowded. We ordered burgers. I sent mine back to because I ordered well done it was bleeding when it came out. Usually I wouldn't send something back but I really couldn't eat this. They bring a new burger out it was also rare. I just ate around the edges because I did not want to risk a 3rd attempt. My friends burgers were not cooked to their liking either. In the past was very good. Maybe we caught them on an off day or they were just in a rush. It seemed like the entire staff was sitting down to their meal and they just wanted to be done with us. Hence the servers constantly trying to clear our plates. We ordered dessert my friends sunday was not correct. We ate and left. May try it again but was disappointed this time!

Where History Meets Taste

By Frank |

It's a restaurant with history and, from what I understand, the most famous neon sign in New York City. It's noisy and busy in a fun way. You can sit outside and inside, and the servers are quick and active in their doings but with a smile. The menu features a lineup of beloved dishes, ranging from chicken paillard and beet salad to burgers and cheesecake, catering to everyone's tastes. The dishes are prepared with adequate attention to detail, and the portion sizes are reasonable and manageable.

Delicious

By Sheryl T |

We came here after visiting the 911 Memorial. I was able to get an online reservation. I had the chicken salad with gouda on bread with fries. It was fabulous. My girlfriend and I couldn't stop eating the crispy fries and we had to tell the waiter to take them away. She had the tuna burger which she said was the best she had eaten. Then it was berries with hot fudge and whipped cream. We were a little perturbed when they charged us $2 for the fudge and $2 for a dollop of whipped cream.

Bland food, indifferent service

By Klooska |

Maybe it was a bad night. The jaded waiter, the bland mussels, the frites that tasted more like MacDonalds than an expensive Tribeca institution. Boring. The atmosphere feels old New York, which feels, well, old. Dated. With so many great restaurants around for that money, find something else. Small list of cocktails. Had a ho hum one that is their signature drink.

Would not be my first choice.

By travbud1 |

There are many places that certainly tread on their reputation, certainly this is one of them. A side of bacon for $10 and rather poor French onion soup for $18. I certainly understand that food costs have risen with inflation, but there are so many places that don’t just rely on their history and must keep up with the times and updated standards. I would certainly recommend elsewhere for brunch.

Good option for a dinner in TriBeCa and somewhat of an institution in the area

By TravelWriter74 |

Great menu choices - great vibe, outside seating options and good quality food. Despite having a reservation we had to wait 15 mins or so and the bar was a bit chaotic but they seemed very busy. The place was rammed. The waiter was very nice but not as knowledgeable about the menu as some others we have experienced. Good fun place though

Wonderful food, super nice environment! Attention notes a thousand.

By SuzanaDias |

Wonderful food, super nice environment! It was an excellent birthday lunch, we couldn't have chosen a better place. A thousand note in the heart of TriBeCa!

Good atmosphere

By PhilipAz |

The good atmosphere matches the food and service. A staple for ny'ers and if you are in the city it's worth a try. Unpretentious food with a little flair. Not cheap but like I say, you get what you pay for. Weekend reservations are a must, walk in during the week is possible. Try their burgers, very tasty.

Beautiful dinner!

By MKatherine |

We had such a nice evening! With a party of 6 from out of town, we were definitely extra! But the staff was perfection and the food divine. Absolutely our best meal in NYC! Thank you!

Straight Up🍸🍸🍸🍸

By Stan Tecza |

Steak tartare was good but the martinis are what I will always remember here. Even went up to the bar after brunch to have another. Crown Royal Manhattans Straight Up ! That’s the way to do it here.

Our Favourite Go to in NYC

By RebeccaBH9047OE |

This place is iconic! The standards are always high food/staff ambience 5 star!! Love the history of this restaurant from Andy Warhol etc all the New yorkers love to eat here.

Amazing and Amazing

By madge |

Odeon is a staple of Tribeca. Food is delicious. Menu caters to everyone. I had the Odeon burger and fries - delicious. Vegan choices. Pescatarian. Vegetarian. They have it all. This is a must go when in town.

Here, it’s authentic and good!

By Jean-Eric V |

An authentic restaurant. Not the kind of room made from scratch with fake new old things intended to make people believe in the historic character of the establishment... A room that has truly lived, in the positive sense of the term, with an intelligent arrangement of tables which combines conviviality and a little intimacy. And good, rather classic cuisine.

Classic

By panicgallery |

This restaurant is fantastic, is a classic New Yorker for French food and it might be the oldest place in Tribeca. Great for cocktails too and is open late.

Wonderful restaurant!

By P H |

Great service, really good food. I highly recommend reservations- they had a very good weeknight crowd.

Big disappointment

By Gwen C |

We looked forward to eating here while in Tribeca with friends for lunch. The service was terrible, the place was crowded and nosy, none of this unexpected. However the food was not good enough to put up with poor service and being shoehorned into a table where our neighbors were almost as close as our companions.

Not even Odeon is perfect all the time

By Hege M |

You can practically feel the history at this classy New York veteran establishment. The soft jazz in the background and the very friendly staff. Sometimes that’s just what you need. I would characterize the menu as updated American interspersed with some French classic dishes. The tuna burger, made with sushi grade tuna is the best tuna burger I’ve ever had! The Niçoise salad, however, was not living up standards. The medium rare tuna was cooked to perfection, the potatoes were nice and creamy, lovely niçoise olives…but the pickled peppers AND the pickled tomatoes made it a wet vinegary yucky mess. Rubbery green beans and NO anchovies?? Stepping bigly on Salad Niçoise devotees' feet here. The pear-almond tart with ginger ice-cream, luckily, put a band aid on my Salad Niçoise wound.

nice quiet location with exterior tables and good food

By Nick L |

revisited since visiting last September and the staff are just as professional and the service and food just as good. We were overcharged on the bill but after informing the waiter it was removed.

Classic, delicious local spot

By Katie S |

A friend of ours took us here for the first time, and we would definitely return! It's beautiful inside, and the service was quite good. They jazzed up my oatmeal with coconut milk, which was a really nice addition. My husband loved his Smoked Salmon plate. We will definitely return.

Reunion

By Sandra W |

A trendy place with a tasty menu of old and new dishes ,great east coast oysters, please book ,very busy even midweek and even with a booking you may have a wait . Excellent service and reasonably priced

Old school decor meets modern food

By Sam R |

After wondering the neighborhood looking for a decent meal we were eventually drawn in by the crowds. The place is big and bustling. We were squeezed into a small table, but that was a small sacrifice. The people watching was great, the old school decor magnificent, and the food was sublime. I felt as though I was in a movie. Not the most romantic spot, but a great experience overall.

A vibe-y place for locals and tourists

By Debbie A |

Be sure to make a reservation if you are going for dinner or be prepared to wait. There is a reason this place is packed. The food is that good. And the retro look and feel of this place made me feel like I was in a different time. Although the restaurant is described as a French brasserie-ish, there are plenty of options if you want good American fare. I had the roast chicken and my husband had the burger/fries and we both very much enjoyed our meals. There is a large wine list and plenty of craft cocktails and beers too. If you are in the mood for a drink, you will have plenty of options. We sat near the bar, which was full of people, and the bar looked like it would be a fun place to have a drink. We had a great server, and no one around us was being rushed out. I wish we knew more about the history of this restaurant. It seems like would have a long and interesting story.

Still fun after all these yeara

By ZenaRd |

I remember going to Odeon 30 years ago when it was one of the first really fun brasseries in town. The bar and restaurant were lively and the ambiance worth the trek downtown. Clientele has always been interesting. Fast forward 32 years and it is still worth a visit. Steak tartare and fries are delightful. Service is terrific. A true classic.

Very Pleasant and Comfortable Bistro

By Duxburygal |

A late afternoon lunch was very enjoyable with great service and a large, varied menu. The staff was warm and welcoming and I felt right at home when I saw "Duxbury oysters" on the menu. The croque monsieur, while not of Parisian caliber, was tasty with excellent, crispy frites. The salad was sparse and overly priced at $13.00. In fact, the almost $50.00 price tag for the meal seemed high for a simple bistro lunch without alcohol or dessert. Nonetheless, it provided a pleasant rest from walking on a chilly, rainy day.

GREAT PLACE AND EXCELLENT FOOD

By ginni |

The place is really cozy and welcoming with the perfect atmosphere for a unique dinner in the city. The food was excellent. Me and my mum had the french onion soup, I would definitely say a must try. we also tied the mushed potato, the best I ever had in a long time.

AVOID - mediocre diner food at Balthazar prices, arrogant staff, awful manager

By owen m |

The continued popularity of this place is baffling. True, the ambience and decor have a genuine FDR era feel - but that just makes the actual dining experience all the more disappointing. I went there twice in a week (not my choice) and found the food consistently mediocre and fantastically overpriced. The chicken salad sandwich was no more than basic-deli quality, the strip steak was deeply ordinary and cost over $40. Worst of all was the service - aggressively fake, brisk and passive-aggressive - and the manager Austen, who refused to serve us after an after dinner drink despite the place still being half full of customers with snooty, dismissive contempt. That guy should not be let within a million miles of a customer service job. All in all, with the exception of decent cocktails, one of the most overrated places have ever dined. Unless you enjoy being gouged and humiliated, avoid.

Superb dinner with friendly service and great desserts

By RUG17 |

Went during recent visit to NYC, made a last minute reservation (highly recommended to get a table), arrived a tad early, table was set-up and we were welcome with a big smile - if you have been in NY for a few days you understand why I mention this here! The place was full to the last seat, over a few Martinis and Cosmopolitans we ordered food which arrived swiftly. Special of the day - grilled seabass - was done to perfection, nice and crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside. The burgers drew a few positive comments and so did the onion-soup as a starter. The steak tartare was good, although the opinion seemed to be that it could have been done with a tad more spice. However, the absolute highlight were the desserts, which were all light and tasty, without being too sugary - again, you'll understand after a few days in NY. Service remained friendly throughout the evening! Loved it!!

Great brunch

By Rula A |

Fun ambiance and cozy, very accommodating to families with kids (even offers plastic cups with straws). Service and food were excellent. There are lots of choices - eggs, pancakes, burger- something for everyone. Best French toast and donuts I've had in quite a while. Maybe best French toast in NYC - perfect consistency and not too dense or sweet! Loved it!

Excellent Sunday Brunch / Lunch at The Odeon

By Peter R |

My partner and had heard about The Odeon before but never dined there. However, a few days before we got married at City Hall and afterwards on our way to lunch we stopped off at The Odeon to have a cocktail. When the young woman behind the bar found out the reason for our visit she told her manager and he gave us the drinks on the house. We were so charmed by this gesture that I reserved for Sunday brunch that evening. On arriving we were offered a banquette by the hostess at the front of house. The welcome wasn’t exactly very smiley or welcoming but the table was appreciated. Maybe that’s just her manner with everyone? Her coolness however was more than made up for by our server, Lucy, whose dry New York sense of humour had us in stitches whenever she came over to serve us and really made the meal even more memorable. I have to say the atmosphere in ’The Odeon’ was a subtle mix of Manhattan with an ever-so-slightly European vibe and it was lovely. There was a great mix of people of all ages and one could easily make oneself heard as the restaurant wasn’t loud or noisy. I could definitely see why this restaurant has such a great reputation with locals and visitors alike. We started with a spicy bloody Mary and a superdrug vodka Martini. We followed this with a first course of French Onion Soup Gratinée and Crispy Calamari with chipotle & tartar sauce. Our main course comprised a spicy steak tartare with French fries and NY Strip Steak and fries. We ended the meal with a creme Brulee and Cheesecake. All of this was washed down with a delicious bottle of French Rose Sancerre; a glass of desert wine; water and two double espressos. The bill came to $238, incl service. Pretty good for what we had and how we enjoyed the food; the sophisticated ambience and the charm and humour of our server.

Great dinner and atmosphere

By t0ursf |

Had a nice dinner here with my sister. The food was great and so was the service. I felt like we were a bit rushed but otherwise everything was fantastic. For the quality of food and the ambiance the prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend it.

Nice Bordeaux from: Haut-Médoc - Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) for wine in the Bordeaux wine region of southwestern France, on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary. Covering a large part of the viticultural strip of land along the Médoc peninsula, the zone covers approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) of its length.

Excellent Lunch place

By alexanderkh |

Their menu ranges from the seasonal dishes to "typical" Manhattan courses, the wine-list is well balanced and the service is truly flawless (at least when I was there;)

A Classic

By foodloversacto |

I have item and come to the restaurant whenever in New York as it is consistent. I always eat the steak and fries which is a great brasserie item and done very well a Le Odeon. I really like that their late night service as if you are hungry at 11:00 PM that is not a problem as the restaurant is open. Patron are a real cross section of society so however you dress you are comfortable.

disappointing...

By Paul W |

this was a huge disappointment; nice enough environment although the tables felt a little small... 3 of us ordered the New York strip and frites; let me tell you now it was not worth the $40 price tag!! and they mixed up the medium rare and rare steaks when they came out... overall a bill of $350 for four of us was a bit hard to swallow... much like the steak!!

Not really worth it

By Klavs M |

The best part of the restaurant was the service and the only truly tasty food was beef tartar but the rest dishes was just mediocre and much too expensive for the quality. There was basically no taste for the fish and the ny strip steak was just not worth it. Wouldn't recommend.

Great atmosphere and food.

We went for dinner with friends and everyone had a wonderful meal. Salads were fresh and delicious. Trout, omelet and pasta were excellent. Save room for dessert! Service was outstanding too. Lots of families because we went early but it wasn't too noisy.

What a disappointing lapse - unworthy of a restaurant with a strong reputation

By ColoradoTraveler1120 |

I know the Odeon is regarded as a first-class restaurant. But our experience was miserable. Our son and his partner (now husband) were to have lunch there last week immediately after their courthouse wedding. (In advance of a real and participatory wedding ceremony in the coming months.) While the two of them did not want this to be a production and asked that mom and dad, and other family, wait for the real wedding / party to come, we clearly wanted to do something to acknowledge the major occasion. Accordingly, I called Odeon the night before to arrange for something from us to be delivered to their table. I was referred to a manager who seemed polite, diligent and like he knew what he was doing. We agreed that a bottle of Prosecco, their favorite drink, would be delivered to the table shortly after their arrival. Over the phone, we picked the particular bottle; I dictated a short note to accompany the bottle that the manager read back to me; and we put it on our credit card along with tax and generous gratuity. The manager assured me that all was set and that before going home he would make sure the notes were passed to the right person and attached to the reservation. Yet, the next day, nothing. Nothing was delivered - no note, no bottle, no greeting from us, nada. When we called the restaurant to find out what had happened, they were highly apologetic. Even while not offering a good reason, or really any reason, for the screw-up. I understand that mistakes happen. But this was a rather significant one for our family on a very special day. We did everything right and were assured that everything was set. Only for the ball then to get dropped or lost. A first-rate operation does not fail in this way. Get it together, folks.

Great burger! Packed restaurant

By starfighter56 |

I was in NY last week and was taken to lunch, haven’t been to The Odeon for a very long time. This used to be a super famous hang out after hours joint where all the famous (and not so famous) acts used to hang out decades ago. The Stones, Tom Petty, etc etc have all partied here and the place hasn’t changed much. Excellent service, restaurant was packed at lunch time, our Irish waitresses were charming and my burger delicious. Will visit when back in NYC next.

A Blast from the Past!

By SueBlue962 |

The Odeon used to be one of our favorite spots for brunch, drinks, and occasionally dinner. We found out about The Odeon about a year after it opened (the 80's). That was before marriage, kids, and a house in the suburbs. My husband and I both worked in the city and were always going to new hot spots with our friends. A close friends boyfriend was a bartender at a "club" and one of his frequent patrons told him about it. I will fast forward over 30 years and we recently dined here for brunch with my son, who is a recent Tribeca resident. His suggestion, as I had totally forgotten about this little gem. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival and seated at an eh table crowded in between a lot of other tables. Our waiter was terrific, very attentive, and handled my reminiscing with a smile. I ordered the Croque Monsieur and Parmesan Fries. They were both hot, delicious, and great way to start the day. My husband ordered the burger and was a very happy camper. His exact words were "This is not the best burger I have ever had, but pretty close." My son went with the Three Egg Omelette because he wanted it stuffed with his choices. I was keeping my fingers crossed that they still made the sugar donuts and they did! We should have ordered more than one because they were warm, cinnamony, and dipped in the accompanying sauces divine. Our meal was very good, our waiter was perfect for us, and every staff member was helpful and attentive too. My only complaint was that the tables were to close together and made for many bumps as staff and patrons passed by. We tried to move the table to reduce the bumps for one of us, but there really was nowhere to go. I am glad that my son passes by on his way to work each day as I got to relive a little taste of my younger days!!

Loved it. Buzzing noisy atmospheric restaurant.

Reminded me of Langhans in London. Great food, service excellent and wonderful ambiance. Bit pricey but unpretentious and worth every buck.

Its Old and Still Very Relevant...

By jrc-esq |

So I've been coming to the Odeon since 1987 when it was super hot... then in the '90s for martinis, while I was in law school around the block, when it wasn't so hot...then again in the 2000's... getting hotter and now the 2010's when she is her old, hot self and its still, as it always has been, simply excellent. The day manager, Austin Nixon, I don't think was born when this place opened but man does he get what this place is about and suppose to be. Kudos young man. Its a hot, french bistro scene that has very good food and great service. People... a french bistro... not Le Coucou, Bouley, Le Cirque or Le Bernardin... a bistro. And at that it excels... Frisee aux Lardon, oysters, steak frites (killer frites people), and the amazing beignets with dipping sauces for desert. Do not miss the martinis at the bar or the lovely selection of wines by the glass... the Macon Village was lovely with lunch. Two glasses, thank you. The service was attentive to the point where the trailing waitress-trainee was making sure we were catered to properly. They served groups, (a birthday party and a small wedding) as well as couples while we were there with absolutely no lag in service. And the kids, ages 4-10, in the wedding all seem to enjoy what they were served. After all these years, they are still doing it and are still relevant... Well done people... well done. Go and Enjoy!

An NYC Classic.

Over the years, decades now, this has been a consistently wonderful restaurant in the heart of Tribeca. The food, the service, the celebrity sightings!

Best French New Yorker

By panicgallery |

This is one of my favorites with Balthazar, food is amazing and has an old New Yorker ambience that transports to an intellectual realm.

Good!

By Kasia Z |

The review would have been excellent if it wasn't for the mediocre donuts dessert. The corn ravioli were delightful - light, flavorful, just perfect. The mussels and grilled branzino were very good as well. We also ordered a chocolate pudding, which was great - smooth, dark chocolate flavor. The only disappointment were the warm donuts, not warm, not fluffy, very dense, so next time, I will avoid these. The service was good and friendly.

Great Experience

By Anita F |

Went here for breakfast. It felt like we were travelling back in time with the Art Deco decoration. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The only problem was what to choose I wanted it all. You felt like you were in New York😂

Great food

By Magdalena_fs |

Nice restaurantens great food. A bit expensive but it’s woth it. I really recommend this place. Also possible to sit outside during the summer.

Over Hyped

By T S |

Everyone said go here for great food. Well the service was excellent and the food ok. I ordered salad and steak/fries. The salad was nice and fresh. My steak was not great and undercooked - fries were fries. Would not come again or recommend.

30 years later!!!!

By Santa Monica advisor |

Incredible room. First went there 35 years ago!!! Back yesterday. Still buzzy and beautiful at 11 pm. Food fine, service nice and we got in without a reservation at 10pm. Maybe my memory but was the food a bit more delicious years ago? Maybe it’s memory. Anyway, an iconic place. Hooray for history.

Trendy and overpriced

By Ingrid h |

When I read some of the reviews about how great this place is , then I wonder what they are used to. Friday night place is packed Tables are so close to each other that we had to move the table in order for me to go to the ladies room. Dining room is very loud, forget that romantic evening Server was not too friendly, probably because we did not order any drinks. I have no complaints about the quality of the food but it comes at a high price without standing out. Probably the price you pay for a trendy place where you pay to see and to be seen. If you like packed loud but trendy places where you pay a high price to walk out hungry then this place is for you

Odeon has it all

By Babci_13 |

Went there for dinner and could not have been nicer. The menu is quite diverse so we had everything from dumplings to steak tartare to salmon. All was very tasty. The mood is relaxed and not pretentious but low key sophisticated. Service was attentive and pleasant. A great spot.

Set the standard for service.

By K P |

The restaurant was incredibly busy. Yet we were never left waiting for service or attention. Every restaurant seems to believe they should get a good tip. The Odeon set the bar in our visit, and nowhere else came close. Food was really good too. And the ginger martini, amazing!

Good for lunch

By Christen P |

Stopped for lunch after visit to 911 museum. The food was good but the noise level was pretty high. If you want to be able to hear across the table, try another place. The food was average for the price.

Great food and super ambience

By Arktistadt |

Not our first time at the O. We love this restaurant for its good food and its egergetic - never loud - ambience. The O is a superb spot for people watching. There are so many diverse types of people there. We had the steak and som desert. Great food and a discrete yet attentive waiter. The O is certainly a must do for us next time we're in the vicinity.

TOO QUICK TOO RUSHED

By threeqs |

I went with a friend this week as I have for the past several weeks and of course it is outdoor seating only. I get the fact that this is less than ideal for the staff and management but feeling pushed out is not the feeling that any customer wants. I asked to order a drink while reading the menu and was told I had to order food at the same time. I did this and asked that she wait awhile before placing the food order so my friend and I could enjoy a couple of drinks and talk. The drinks arrived. The food arrived. The entire process was less than 1 hour. It is very disappointing to feel hurried. The waitress was not friendly at all. She brought the bill and eyed us while we spoke for a few minutes and then decided to leave (forever).

Awesome service, perfect locale and decent food

By andal03 |

Excellent place for the summer, when you have dogs and can sit outside. Service was really good and that is the reason for the 4 stars.... as the food was good, but not exceptional. Tea was a bit small (I think I had 3 bags), so please provide bigger servings. Would go again due to convenience.

Great atmosphere

By katie w |

Went here to meet up with a family member I had not seen in 30 years. As you can imagine, we were slow to look at the menu, slow to order drinks and dinner. The wait staff was so patient and understanding when we kept asking for “a few more minutes”. Two people had salmon and loved it, I had a simple baby kale Caesar salad and side of macaroni and cheese. The salad was crisp and amount of dressing was perfect and the home made croutons were not soggy. We enjoyed a drink from the bar and a wonderful molten chocolate cake with the best peanut butter ice cream I’ve had. The atmosphere was lively but not obnoxious. We were there for almost 3 hours and never once felt rushed or like we were holding up a table (it was a Monday night not Friday or Saturday however). If you want something not touristy where the locals actually go, or you just want some great food, this place is highly recommended in my opinion!

Great Service

By Jim M |

My wife and I ate lunch here - she had an omelette that was very filling and I had a very good nicoise salad. We split their highly rated ice cream sandwich which was good. The highlight was the service. Dimitri was outstanding as was Glori . Big personalities, pleasant and professional.

Charming and consistent

By Carolyn B |

This is a very attractive place that has been around for a long time. The food is consistently good. You can count on it. The French Onion soup was delicious but probably too sweet for certain tastes. The Moules frites with saffron were tasty and tender, but I prefer smaller mussels. The banana cream pie is a small tart, very tasty and the chocolate pudding is nice dark chocolate. Cappucino was good. We were a party of ten and had excellent service. We were there on a Sunday night on the late side and it wasn't noisy.

Outstanding Bistro

By barymad |

Excellent choice for a nice brunch of eggs Benedict or other specialties. Crowded and sometimes noisy, the restaurant always delivers with great food and service.

Great take out wish we had time to dine there as well

By Andy05255 |

We were in NYC for one night and stayed at the Hotel 50 Bowery. We ad hoped to dine at the hotel but the restaurant was not open yet. The concierge ordered us dinner from the Odeon delivered to our room via the food service called CAVIER . Our food arrived still warm and ready to eat. The Hotel provided us with plates and silverware so we cud really enjoy our dinner o plates instead of the food cartons

Great atmosphere, food, & service

By MJames88 |

Great meal to celebrate a birthday. Mussels and frites were awesome, lamb shank special was done to perfection, and delicious desserts. Great wine list and very reasonable. Fun bar to have a drink. Lots of energy in the restaurant with tables packed in tight. That is part of the experience. This is a great French bistro not to miss.

Excellent Weekday Breakfast

By jen1105 |

I decided to stop in for breakfast during a weekday late-morning. I sat outside b/c I was in the middle of a walk with my small dog. I had the omelette with breakfast potatoes and some excellent coffee. Everything was really well prepared and I liked that they gave me the option of how I would like my omelette cooked - soft, medium, or hard. This was my second visit to the restaurant. I previously had an excellent brunch with my family. I recommend The Odeon!

Fancy inside, not so fancy from the outside.

By Positivelydivorced |

Great dining experience. The food was AMAZING, but OVERPRICED, but it is NYC!! Hello!! It was quite a fancy dining experience. I didn't know it was going to be this expensive, but I felt it was worth it. I had the burger with a side of brussel sprouts and my friend had the burger with fries. I had a hot tea and we had the COCONUT SORBET which is MADE IN HOUSE and AMAZING. The bill was 94.00 without the tip just to give you an idea. I treated myself and my friend. I would love to come back. If you are a foodie, this is your spot!!! Try it!! Service is EXCELLENT, but we went for lunch at like 2ish...so no crowds.

Decent lunch

By Peggy L |

I went here with my daughter because of the reviews I read here (and because it is close to a boutique we planned to go to). Frankly, I was disappointed. I ordered the croque monsieur with fries. The fries were excellent, but the croque was only ok. I love this meal and get it every time I'm in France, but this was just a sad reminder of what it can be! Really no flavor to the cheese or the ham. Wouldn't order it again. My daughter ordered the soft-shelled crab sandwich, which was better but still not outstanding. The crab was nicely cooked, but covered over with toppings. The service was fine and we had a good time, but I wouldn't og out of my way to go there again!

I wish all my friends were this reliable: Consistently good experience!

By JuliePinkie |

When I want to feel pampered by impeccable service and have very good food I head to The Odeon in Tribeca. It has a dark cool vibe (though lots of strollers on the weekends which isn't so nice). I like the macaroni and cheese, the asparagus with Bernaise and the chicken dumplings. They don't give you too much food… just enough, but it is always perfectly cooked. You may have to pawn your wedding ring, but so what? Like marriage, they're overrated.

Good food

By Shira L |

Great food. Sitting is very crowded. Nice atmosphere. The entre'es are excellent. The desset is a bit dissapointing. Good alcohol choice

Wedding Brunch

By John S |

This turned out to be an ideal place for my best friends wedding meal. After a warm greeting and a wait for the pre-booked table we were seated. We were impressed with attentive service and touches like servers not having to ask ‘who is having X’ when food was brought to the table - slick! The food was 5 star and the champagne was amazing. Love the TriBeCa location which is in my opinion, now the coolest part of Manhattan. Overall, highly recommended and on behalf of the happy couple, we thank you!

Classic bar and restaurant in the heart of Tribeca

Wonderful atmosphere. Understated and comfortable. Great american food like mac n cheese, salads, very good side dishes. Affordable and casual. Bar is a great place to meet up. Convenient near the Chamber Street subway.

Cosy very nive place

Great place very cosy, very good service. Not a very wide menu but has everything you need! Best on the group was onion soup, chicken dumplings and tuna tartar! Great final with the sunday! Good price to quality!

Went for breakfast. Efficient and polite service from a waiter. Lovely granola with fruit and yogurt. An iconic NY place so well worth a visit if in TriBeCa.

Pre-dinner cocktails

By Nicky Meredith |

Stunning, vibey restaurant where we met up with some friends. The cocktails were lovely, and even though we didn’t stay here for dinner, the food that we saw, looked absolutely delicious. Very busy & popular (even at the bar area), think we’ll make a reservation the next time we’re in town...

Oddly Unflexible Chef

By Shari B |

I have eaten at Odeon many times. Today it fell far beyond my expectations. I ordered a roasted broccoli and cauliflower salad on the menu. The server did not tell me that it was actually far too small to be a main course (even with the $17 price tag). She did, however, ask if I would "like to add any protein" to my dish. I said I would like to add a hard boiled egg. She said no problem. She later came back to the table and asked if a poached egg would be ok. I said that would be fine. (And my dining companion had ordered a very similar dish wish also contains a poached egg.) When the food was brought, however, there was no egg. When I asked them to follow up, the server came back and said no egg would be coming. She said the chef does not permit adding eggs to any dish that does not already come with them. When I asked why I was asked if I wanted to "add a protein", the server said that only applied to adding meat. I asked if I could simply order the egg separately, but I was told the chef also does not permit that. This was not a question of payment. I was happy to pay for the egg. When I asked why my dining companion was allowed to have a poached egg, I was told that is how the chef arranged the menu. I spoke to the manager to see if perhaps this was a misunderstanding, but was again told the chef is rigid on this issue and you can not have an egg unless your dish specifically lists one on the menu. I'm confused as to why this was, but this clearly was not a situation where they look to accommodate any one. As a vegetarian, I often look for ways that dishes can be tweaked to make them vegetarian friendly. Fair warning that this restaurant does not feel the need to be accommodating.

Classic and still fabulous

By Joannasable |

What can I say about The Odeon that hasn’t already been said? I have been going here every time I visit for a long long time. I remember when the area was covered in the coolest artists. The Odeon is still packing them in. The vibe is fabulous, the space has soaring ceilings and is just so comfortable. All day and all night it is hopping. Everything here is yummy and the service professional and friendly. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food and travel fun.

Good vibe, great food

By magivey |

Early Friday night dinner with my son. Place was hopping at 6:30. Really nice waitstaff. Frizee salad, steak frites and pan-seared salmon were all wonderful. Grey goose martinis made the night.

Fantastic Evening

Fantastic night! Great atmosphere, cool, fun and delicious food! Very NY and definitely one to eat at when visiting the city

a welcome respite from some vicious weather!

By garlic_prawn86 |

My mum and I discovered the Odeon while staying in nearby Tribeca last month. It was our first day of the holiday, we couldnt check into our hotel room yet and had decided to go for a walk. That proved a mistake, as the weather had taken a turn for the worse (think gale force winds and rain and general cold misery)! We dived in here to warm up / dry off / fortify ourselves with food - and were not disappointed! Between us we had pancakes and croc monsieur - which were both gratefully received and did wonders to revive two weary and jet lagged travellers!! The actual food itself was excellent, and in a good portion size - not so much you felt sick, or couldnt finish the helping. Service was excellent as well - both friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend if in the neighbourhood, and would like to go back next time we are in the city!

Couple's dinner 🩷

By Marianna A |

Nice place, there were several birthday dinners. Overall average, waiters friendly and helpful. For a New York local the food isn't bad, we spent $100 for two with some wine.

Classic place delivers on food

By pickling |

Easy going, large, diner-like, open place, but we got a booth in the back. Great service and they were amenable to making some GF adjustments for me. My food not only looked great but was delicious as well and used modern ingredients like chive sprouts. Definitely NYC prices for brunch however... Yum.

Still as busy as ever

By rnarisetti |

A recent weekday night at the bar. Good wine list (think $15 glasses) and a full menu (good especially when the restaurant is often booked and packed for dinner. The bar area--a long counter--was never not occupied but also seems like lot of regulars. Service is friendly, fast and attentive.

Reliable

Reliable neighborhood eating place. Great for an outdoor brunch. Helpful service, friendly smiles, pricey but that's to be expected in its location.

Lovely meal

By highflyer07 |

We went here for dinner after my son's college graduation, as he also works here! So it came highly recommended. We had a lovely table by the window and service was excellent - professional and polite. There were four of us and we were all very pleased with our meals, very tasty! I would definitely recommend eating here.

Felt like we were in NYC!

By Linda R |

Had lunch here, as we'd had dinner at it's sister restaurant Balthazar. Food as excellent as Balthazar. Had a hamburger that was so flavorful, mmm! One of us had a croquet (?) that looked marvelous, nothing was left of it! Dessert was good, we enjoyed the creme brulee, with just enough of the carmelized topping. Did have chocolate pudding, that was a little disappointing. Enjoyed looking at all the other patrons while we were there!

Never disappoints

Oldie but goodie

By sandyhandz2016 |

Still hot and happening after all these years! Walked in and told there was an hour waitlist. Went online and got immediate reservation and seated right away! Food is good but if you are a people watcher, even better. Waitress spent more time talking to table next to ours about her education and lofty acting ambition. Overheard there were producers in the restaurant. I just reminisced about late night stops and various meals Ive had there 20 years ago and was happy to see them still around. One of the few nyc staples. Postcard ending was great souvenir.

Happy French Restaurant

By Adrian W |

Had dinner at this atmospheric Restraunt. Based on French cuisine the menu has some outstanding dishes at reasonable prices. From New York strip steak with “frites “ to Eden trout with a wonderful salad, we tried them both , delicious. Also worth trying is the mussels with frites again delightful. A good wine list with some appropriate Cote de Rhône wines like the food reasonably priced. The menu has a daily specials with suggested matching wines. Book and enjoy.

Hip classic

By glamourprincess |

We were staying in the area and wanted to explore local restaurants in Tribeca. Odeon came up as a popular spot! We made a reservation, which is recommended, as the place was very busy even on a Sunday. It was a good mix of families with kids, couples and groups of friends. Everyone seemed welcome! The restaurant is a French bistro with classics such as moules frites and steak. It is not cheap, but the food was good. The service was friendly (more than average in this city). The dessert was fantastic - sundae with hot sauces. The burger and fries were also really tasty. The atmosphere is lively and cheery. In NYC there are so many restaurants to choose from, but I may still return to the Odeon!

Expected a Little More

By Michael L |

This small and fairly crowded restaurant has a large neon "Cafeteria" sign on the side wall outside; the sign got it right, as the ambiance of this place reminded me of nothing more than an elementary school cafeteria, albeit one with a lively bar scene. Old-looking beige paint, industrial floors, old-appearing and not very inviting tables and chairs crowded fairly close together, plenty of noise. Someone in our group said it looked like it hadn't changed since the 70's, perhaps it hadn't. We were there for brunch and everything we had was perfectly adequate, with some dishes reminiscent of some of the better diners I've been to. Portions are not the least bit generous. (Yes, I understand that's a trend, but some seemed absurdly small). Prices are aggressive. All in all, it was an adequate experience but I don't see myself returning anytime soon.

Great food and desert

By FrankL |

Great little cozy restaurant in Tribeca. Deserving of their high ranking. Food and service both excellent for price. They make their own ice cream and sorbets which are definitely worth a try.

love the bar and the food is really good.

We had a small cocktail party at the bar and the staff made it a perfect event! Drinks were good - the bartender was lovely - and the finger food was just right and lots of it. We will be back.

Try the french onion soup and Steak/Frites

By Kevin Parsakia |

Came here by chance and was pleasantly surprised The restaurant has a very classy vibe to it. Within 30 minutes of opening it filled up pretty quickly. Now for the fun part: Food!!! The 8 ounce aged NY Strip with frites with garlic butter was amazing! I'm a big fan of French onion soup and I've become a bit of a snob about it. It's normally too salty, cheesy, or tastes like it came out of a freezer. In this case it was amazing! Never got a chance to try the drinks but the bar looked epic.

Caesar head waiter - Marie Antoinette - want more soup for French onion soup BUY ANOTHER ONE!

By VeeDubNYC |

Why do I give service a 2 star? Let’s see we ordered a bottle of veuve, half a bottle of chapuy, a dozen oysters, 2 buffalo chicken dumplings, tortellini, a burger and onion soup for a few hundred dollars. I asked for more broth for my French onion soup and was told I had to order another soup to get the broth. How much does half a cup of broth worth? A bad review? I have lived in the neighborhood since 2007 and have been an Odeon staple until I moved to Hawaii. I still have an apt in tribeca. What is half of cup of broth worth? And it is not just the waiter. It was the manager who responded with Order More Soup! Is it the Marie Antoinette equivalent of let them eat cake. I guess New York is coming back and they don’t care about customer service any more. Will I come back again and invite friends? Hmmm….

Slow down and enjoy this place!

By PeginUT |

We love this place... the drinks are superb, the staff is friendly, the food is savory and the atmosphere is unbeatable. We have been here a few times and I am always amazed at how many people are there...even on Christmas Eve. We love sitting at the bar because you can do some amazing "people watching" because they have a mirror above the bar that slanted at the right angle to view the restaurant. Plus the bartenders are always so accommodating and knowledgeable while you listen to the acoustic music. If you are in the area, please do yourself a favor and walk in.

Delicious Brunch

By jen1105 |

My family and I had a delicious brunch at The Odeon. We shared Crispy Calamari and the French Fries. Both were delicious. For my main, I had the excellent Avocado Toast with Poached Eggs & Frisée Salad. My family members enjoyed their mains, which included Herbed Chicken Salad Sandwich, Tuna Burger, Omelette, and Country Frisée Salad w/Poached Eggs. We sat out front on a beautiful mid-morning Saturday in August. Service was attentive and friendly. Very nice view of Freedom Tower. They also have an ice cream cart near the front doors. On my list to try for next time! This is a great place for brunch.

I have loved this restaurant since I moved to New York in the 1980s lol! Always have the steak frites with the bernaise and au poirve sauces. Service quick and efficient, location PRIME tribeca, vibe is still hip after 3 decades! Roya at the door is the chicest and sweetest person one will ever encounter!

Classic NYC bistro with hip vibe

By RAH47 |

Great service in a spacious and classically hip setting. The mid-day menu was perfect for a late afternoon gathering- with light but substantial options like a tuna burger and an outrageously delicious mushroom side dish. French influence on menu but also varied choices.

Paris a calling!

By fkher |

Mes amies if you want to feel like you are dining on a Paris bistro go to the Odeon in the heart of Tribecca. The restaurant decor begins the process of transporting you there. The paper topped tables and apron clad wait staff propel you further and the experience is completed by wonderfully executed Parisian dishes. I can recommend the fried blossoms, moules and the onion soup to start. The steak frites, seafood dishes are wonderful. If you to really step into Paris have the Croque monsiuer with an egg. Yum My only complaint is that like a real Paris bistro the tables small and are jammed together so you can feel and hear those around you No matter. I love this place

I visited the Odeon with my brother for dinner. Hannah our waitress was awesome! She made super recommendations, served with a smile, and took so good care of us. The atmosphere is special here. It’s darker than in most places, people speaking in the tables and the bar. Also, you can feel some of its history. This the place where De Niro, Warhol, Belushi, etc. hang out in the 80s. I went all raw this evening: oysters, steak tartare, and homemade ice cream. The oysters were super as a starter! And then Hannah told me she would go for the Steak Tartare. Thank you! It was the best of its kind I’ve ever had. It melted in my mouth and the flavor lasted for a while accompanied with a good red wine. Don’t miss this place and make a reservation to be sure.

Good food

This place has history, from Warhol to Basquait, but you would never know about it. I thought that they should play this up. Aside from that, the food was good, tasty and just enough. Staff was attentive, and the place is clean.

A large party nicely handled

By TravelingTo693 |

Made last minute reservations for a large party of guests. The staff handled our table very professionally. The calamari appetizer had a kick to it and was very memorable. The drinks were satisfying. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and desserts. Overall, a nice restaurant with great ambiance to socialize and have a pleasant meal.

Good food, mediocre service

By Mark M |

The food was great. My omelet was one of the best I've ever had and my wife's French toast was delicious. Potatoes were also great. But the service was horribly lacking. It took a while to get our coffees, then the waitress walked back and forth by mostly empty cups without ever checking if we wanted more. I finally stopped her and asked for more, and after a few minutes she came back and said they needed to brew more. The place wasn't even that full, I don't know how you run out of coffee, but had she checked on it when we first got low it wouldn't have been 10 minutes of waiting for more. She just didn't seem to have an interest in being there that day. Unfortunate because the food was a 5 star breakfast.

They Seem Happy To See Me

I enjoyed a late lunch on a HOT afternoon inside.. the A/C was fantastic as were the service and food. I generally eat off-hours, so the restaurant was uncrowded and unhurried. This is not McDonald's, so the burger comes at a price, but the atmosphere is worth it. I am elated whenever I find a restaurant that does not feel compelled to have a TV over the bar... always a PLUS in my book.

one of the best

By mlesser1 |

This restaurant has been around for many years and the quality of food/beverage, service and hospitality is definitely unequaled. A French bistro that attracts a local crowd, some celebs, but they honor all reservations. Dinner was great and everyone at the table was definitely satisfied.

After 40 years still a great place to dine

By RROesch |

The Odeon is one of the oldest french bistros in New York (established 1980). We had dinner at the Odeon twice because the interior is still modern and cosy. The mix of the clientel are great: families with children, business people, New Yorkers and tourists, young and old. The staff is very friendly and professional. We loved the Tuna burger as well as the tasty angus beef steak tartare with chips. They also have great cocktails as well as a nice wine list to choose grom.

Still has its Mojo after so many years

I frequented the Odeon in the late 1970's and early 1980's. I went back for the first time. They deserve a lot of credit for still being relevant. The mussels were FANTASTIC and my Salmon was very good. My daughter had the swordfish which was also excellent. Worth a visit!

Great brunch, excellent service

By Kari H |

Love to have brunch at this NYC institution. Prices are high but the ambiance, people watching and service are excellent. Food is always great. I've never been run off or felt pressured to leave. Favorite place to have a relaxing brunch with friends in terrific atmosphere. Love the french toast and omelettes.

Good place !

Great place, good and fresh food, brasserie type. Had great Oysters and a delicious burger. A good test for a French restaurant is to test the crème brûlée, their was perfect.

Excellent lunch

We walked here after visiting the 9/11 Museum and enjoyed this NY landmark. It was a bit of a walk, so don't think it is nearby, but a place to consider when you are in Tribeca. Our foursome thoroughly enjoyed our meals which included a cheeseburger, steak tartare, tuna burger on Gluten free bread ($2 upcharge) and chicken salad sandwich. The service was nothing special, we had to catch our waiter's eye several times for requested items (mayonnaise, water, etc). The French bistro atmosphere was a bit worn (it's a busy place). Food was very good.

Underwhelming dinner

Very crowded restaurant, with tables close together. Service was good, but food was fair somewhat pricey with $30 hamburgers.

Paris meets NYC

By MLXV |

Worth booking in advance, it's a busy Broadway brasserie. The menu as well as wine list is heavily France - inspired. Good steak tartare (a little too chilled for my taste). I later went for the trout but eventually followed our server's recommendation for cod (not on their regular menu) - and not regretted it. Try their home-made ice cream and sorbets!

Brunch

Very popular restaurant for brunch, food was good, eggs benedict excellent- hollandiase sauce was very tasty. Fries were good too, as were the mini donuts! English Breakfast tea was also good!!

This was an experience

By Roger Paul M |

We were invited to dine at the Odeon after an opening and this was a wonderful experience. Firstly the ambience, when you walkin, it almost felt like being transported away from the 20th Century, and back to a time when dining was more than the mere consumption of food. And it was immediately apparent why the organisers had chosen this venue, it is classy. They had prepared a set menu for the guests and it was delciious, with a salad as a starter and a variety of entrees availabe to suite people with varying eating requirements. Brenda chose the Halibut and she indicated that it was amazing, I chose the New York strip Steak. Another guest next to me chose the chicken and she reported that it was fabulous. The dessert was interesting, serving an ice-ream based dessert (On a snowy night with minature hot doughnuts and a berry sauce. The food was very tasty. And the waiters and restaurant staff were on the ball with their service.

Great dinner

We stopped here on Sunday night for dinner based on a friends recommendation. I am a pescatarian and there were so many great options that I could not decide what to order. Fortunately our server was super helpful and had many great recommendations. The atmosphere, food and server were better than expected. Will definitely go back next time we are in the area.

An Old Standby Still Does Well

By klemps49 |

Everybody who lives in NYC or has visited it frequently has eaten at The Odeon at least once--or I should say "nearly everybody". Last week was my first time, and it was a more than decent time. The place is crowded, noisy, and very well-run. The wait-staff does a great job and at least two managers patrol the floor to make certain everything is going according to plan. The restaurant does very well by its two tartar dishes--tuna and beef--by its several pasta dishes and by its two burgers, especially the tuna-burger. My hunch, from a broiled trout that was too busy with accompaniment that really didn't go well with it and that was slightly overcooked (and overcooked even a little is ruinous for a trout), is that one ought to stay away from the "entre" type dishes. The chocolate pudding was very ordinary but the donuts, an original post-dinner touch, were super. Our waiter, a Serbian actor and a big Djokovic fan, could not have been nicer or more efficient. A good time was had by all.

Yummy all the way through

By DadMD |

Excellent and attentive service. No attitude about answering questions. A very delicate salmon tartare, not fishy and not over spiced. A really incredible espresso martini. Had trout that was perfectly done and delicious. Great all around.

Solid French

By Sailgirl22 |

The Odeon is everything I want in a French bistro - reliable favorites (steak frites, croque madame, French onion soup with gruyere, frisee salad, etc...) that are well executed and use good quality ingredients. I also adore the efficient but not hovering or pushy service. It's not inexpensive but in my opinion the dependable product is worth the premium.

great service great location great food and outdoor tables !

By Nick L |

a friend took me here for dinner and I loved it. Great food, great service we had a table outside as it was a sticky evening. Nothing was too much. It wasn't expensive. It was very good.

Good food but like all restaurants in New York, too expensive.

By Hajfi |

It is a nice place with good service and food, Lunch for 4 persons including coctails and a bottle of sparkling American wine was $US 270.

Good BLT

By Sarah n Pete R |

Went because we were looking for a seat outside in the sun for an early dinner as it was cool in the other places we had walked by. We had BLT & a burger both were very nice, service was great by Mike the waiter.

Reliably wonderful

By Mezzanotte G |

We came all the way from the UES down to TriBeCa to go to The Odeon for late breakfast. Service was friendly and accommodating and the food as always, was delicious. A nice aspect is being able to get a glass of champagne or wine to start off the meal. The menu has the usual staples (French toast, eggs Benedict) but also some very healthy and hearty alternatives.

A favorite in NY!

One of our favorite places in NY! It never disappoints. Lovely Thanksgiving dinner and great people watching. The service is exceptional, thank you Brynn!

Worth the Wait

Happened to be in the neighborhood and realized I had never dined at this classic. Wonderful environment and welcoming staff. Enjoyed a great chicken salad sandwich and great coffee.

Excellent food and service

By George S |

A wonderful dinner experience at this icon of a restaurant in the Tribeca area of New York. Though the place was jammed with patrons the food (generally on the French side) was superb as was the service. My cold corn chowder (with shrimp) was outstanding, the moules frites were excellent and the Mac and cheese was good. Prices were on the high side but you get what you pay for, as the saying does. Highly recommended.
