Incredibly rude staff

By Colin |

Staying in the hotel Edison but was told the rum house just lease off the hotel Edison. Be aware of rude bar staff especially the guy with a beard and long hair ( I will attach in photo) started screaming at me because I went through the wrong door which I thought was the toilet. Embarrassed me infront of other guests.

A lovely surprise!

By Jules |

We stumbled upon this beautiful bar after coming out of a comedy club in Times Square. It was a Sunday night so most places were closed but a quick Google search let us know that The Rum House was open until 4am and even had live music! We made it in time for the last set and the music was fantastic. We had old fashioneds and rum & pineapples and were not disappointed. The rum selection was unbelievable, although of course being in the US there were no Cuban rums which bummed me out, but not the bar's fault! We ordered a bowl of olives which were delicious, a nice option! Being Canadians who love Cuba, we were very pleased with this find. The next time we're in NYC we will be back!

great bar

By ronl910 |

we really enjoyed this quaint little hole in the wall Rum bar. the bartender was a riot. he kept us laughing. his specialty drinks are awesome. highly recommend this bar if you are a rum lover.

Lovely place to visit

By The_original_tidzy |

Very old and settled feeling inside and a great place to see some live music... It's tiny inside so tables are thin on the ground but the man seating everyone doesn't stand no messing there is a waiting list for tables and he sticks to it Lovely place and the measures are very generous. We came out at 1am very well oiled

Fabulous jazz

By Sarny |

A dimly lit atmospheric venue. The floor server was lovey seating us, taking orders etc. The music much enjoyed. A real experience.

Hidden Gem!

By Catherine S |

It's not exactly a hidden spot, but you don't want to miss it. I've been several times and never disappointed. They have great craft cocktails. The bartenders and wait staff are excellent. They will concoct a special drink for you if you let them know what you like. I will definitely go back whenever I'm in NYC.

Lively

By nreigle |

This is a cute and lively bar in the Edison Hotel. They have nightly music which sometimes can be too loud, but on a recent visit there was a jazz quartet and they were very good and not extremely loud. The service is excellent. The prices are high but typical of NYC.

So glad it was pouring down rain!

By Susan B |

We wouldn't have gone to the Rum House if it hadn't been pouring rain. Was staying at the Edison and was so happy for this accidental discovery. Totally charming, intimate, and GREAT service.

We loved this bar

By Jennifer C |

Very nice little place. Small and vey crowded but we didn't have trouble getting a table. Took awhile to get our drinks but well worth it. We loved the drink menu. Pricey but once again expected. The Cesar was my favourite drink by far.

Amazing little gem with live music every night!

By SirFabulous |

Amazing little gem with live music every night and good boozy cocktails! The place is quite small but very cozy, and absolutely perfect for a few drinks if you’re staying at Hotel Edison (as it’s connected to the hotel) or near Times Square/Broadway. Friendly staff and good music. Would reccommend!

Perfect for drinks before a Broadway show

By Foster44 |

Popped in just for drinks before going to see a show on Broadway. It was happy hour too, so a beer was $5, certainly the cheapest I'd had in New York. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. The bar is connected to a hotel, so a bit of a trek to the toilets, but would certainly go back here.

Drinks N Jazz

By Jeff S |

We stopped in for drinks and to listen to live music. Cool jazz and good rum, two of my favorite things. Must try the “Tortuga” , one of the best I’ve had.

Great Ambience and Jazz

By Murray L |

We called into the Rum House after a show and were delighted to be entertained with some great jazz. The ambience was awesome, and the hosts singing of various jazz standards a bonus. A personal request for a rendition of Van Morrison's Moondance was performed superbly.

Nice little bar

By Vincent S |

This is a nice little bar connected to the Edison Hotel. They were checking vaccines upon entrance. It is a small area. About 15- 2 top cocktail table They have a shot gun bar. 8:00 the jazz trio started playing. The atmosphere before and with the live music was nice. Not too loud. Dimmed lights and candles on each table. The bartenders were professional. The drinks use very small cubed, almost crushed ice. A small detail because it makes a very good cocktail. They have a large selection of rums. My wife had "the escape" which is an old fashion way pina coladas used to be made, not frozen. I had "summer in the city". This was also tasty. If I come back to NYC I'll visit again.

the worst

By Navigator93848 |

the worst i've ever been. Bouncer sucks, people suck. If you want the worst of NYC, this is where you go.

Wow!

By t3quil4 |

So many options! Bartenders know their menu and recommendations are great. Troy was our bartender and he made really nice job. Knew exactly when we needed him and not annoying in trying to sell whatever we wouldn't like. Pretzel is THE food to get here, fresh and hot, the best I had in town. End up staying way later than we planned to. We were meant to try another bar and we stayed here instead

Barman super rude !

By Eimear S |

We visited in December after we had read really good reviews about it. The barman was extremely rude after we informed him that the table we were sitting at was actually broken, the wooden top was completely lose and could have fallen on someone. He told us that that was not his problem. We actually removed the top off the table and put it on the ground as it could have fallen at any moment seriously injuring someone. He also refused to serve one of our party who is 53 years old as she did not have I.D, I do understand the requirement for I.D but I think some common sense should be used when you can someone is clearly 30 years older than 21. We left without getting a drink, really disappointing.

Great Bar

By Sandy H |

We go here every time we are in New York. They have a very lengthy rum menu. The nightly entertainment is great.

So disappointed

By Rick K |

Being a serious rum drinker, the Rum House was on my agenda when in New York. Five of us made our way in the afternoon to enjoy a few selections from their well publicised menu. After five minutes of choosing our first rum, the server came back to our table to tell us they were out of that selection, so we opted for another. The rum was nice, but very expensive, for no reason. We decided to try another and after a few minutes, the server came back to tell us they were out of that rum. Once more, we selected another choice, only to be told they were out of that stock as well. We laughed about this, being called the Rum House and being out of stock of most of our selections. It reminded us of the Monty Python sketch of the Cheese Shop. We decided to move on, so I went to pay the bill when I noticed that they sell t-shirts. I thought I would at least have a shirt to tell me about this visit. They were sold out of my size, so I thought I would buy my rum drinking buddy a shirt but they were out of his size. At this point, I looked to my buddy and said "Cheddar". We had a laugh and moved on to another bar.

Jazz quartet

By Teakwo23 |

Top notch bartending, live music, and amazing drinks. What’s not to love? Always packed so get there early and grab a seat.

Speakeasy vibe, great live music

By Kimberly N |

This is my husband's and my favorite little place for a date night if we happen to be near Times Square. We can always count on a lively atmosphere at night when a jazzy band is playing. It may be hard to find an open table but you can usually try to squeeze in at a table or even share a space with others. Drinks can be a little pricey but it is a bargain when you think of the cool NYC speakeasy ambience you get to enjoy, complete with talented musicians, without paying a cover charge!

Great spot

By awesome_1971 |

We went with my wife for a drink after the theater. It was such a cool place. We didn’t have very much time because we had a dinner reservation but still, we enjoyed the very cool environment, nice cocktails, very fast service. That night there was a small band playing making things even more nice. Hope next time will have more time.

Amazing choices of RUM

By walkingman12017 |

Great place to have a rare Rum that is aged and they make the best drinks with them. Thanks for the great service

My favorite bar in NYC

By blackmarble1j |

I've had so many great memories at The Rum House. Whenever I'm traveling to NYC I make sure to stop by. The music is great and the drinks are some of the best. It's a gem of a place and the atmosphere couldn't be better.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN NEW YORK!

By Beth D |

Visited here for the first time, I had already ordered two drinks for me and one for my mom. When I was halfway through my second drink the manager asked if I wanted another one, I hesitated as I was still drinking my second drink, he then said " you will have to get the cheque if you don't have another drink ". Didn't realise I was in a drinking competition. I decided to get the bill and leave. Thought this was really rude, I had already ordered three drinks all together and was halfway through my drink. Really dissapointing as this was my last experience in New York. This place does not value your custom, go elsewhere!

Cool bar & film location too

By Carole S |

I was desperate to visit this bar as it is featured in the Oscar winning film Bird Man. Cocktails were excellent. Sit at the bar for the full experience. Perfect spot for before or after show drink. We dropped in after seeing the amazing Chicago.

Swanky Joint

By Peter M |

This bar is quite small and if you want a table you are going to have to wait. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated however, we had our drinks inhand before that and didn't mind due to the live Cuban band playing music. I has the real Havanna Feel to it. I know my cocktail's, so believe me when I say that they were tremendous. Each of the signature cocktails were an explosion of different flavors, notes, and even feeling. Not one was like the next, each told a different story.

The most disappointing bar in NYC

By Greg_ChCh_NZ |

Non welcoming weird rules never experienced in a bar before. We were pretty excited to have flown half way around the world and drop into NYC and have an opportunity to visit this place. Bizarrely we were asked not to use our phone to view the menu in the dark and also to keep our chairs at a 90 degree angle in a 1/2 full establishment. Never even bothered with a drink so left. So odd…. My advice is to go to one of the rooftop bars that are more welcoming and have views that you go to NYC for. Spyglass or St Cloud are a better bet and right next door. So sad because I love my rum and never experienced this before. The other bars were awesome. If you are only in NYC for a short stint give this place a miss.

Still my favorite NYC bar - a cocktail lounge throwback.

By Ron T |

If I am in NYC it is a must stop place for the best selection of high end aged rums. Smart bartenders, dark and quiet. It is an oasis right in the theater district. My wife got a margarita which she said was the best she ever had.

Its good but not great

By Nmack75 |

I like my rum and this place appealed for its history and selection of rums however I was left with no real desire to return. Maybe it was an off night but I had hoped for more. Plus points include the live music - which was excellent, the selection of rums available and the decor of the place - steeped in history Im sure. The staff were pleasant enough but I never found them engaging but I guess after you serve a thousand rums to a thousand tourists you run out of chat. Id score the place a 3.5 out of 5 based on my visit but readily admit that on a different night it could be a 5. Thats just the luck of the draw!

Great music and service!

By KGoodtime |

What a great place to stop in for a drink or two. The live entertainment was amazing and soulful, incredible musicians. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend for a nightcap!

Cool

By Little_Summers |

Great atmosphere. Excellent drinks. Very nice and friendly service. Good vibes! Recommended before, after theater, pre-dinner or small bites.

Great fun!

By norxis |

I had a great evening here at the Rum House. Great live jazz being played by the band and the vibe inside is fantastic! Although the drinks are a bit expensive the experience inside is well worth it.

Cool Vibe

By Kj W |

A cool place to have a drink and hear live music. The atmosphere was great and people were lining up to get in. A great location near many attractions.

Drinks

By Bernadette C |

Stayed at the Edison Hotel so had to visit The Rum House as its on the door step very friendly and polite staff a busy little place with music at night

Good for after work drinks

By jenaranjo31 |

This place is small, but thankfully not overcrowded. They have a nice selection of rum and great choice of cocktails. However, despite sitting at the bar it took awhile to get our drinks. Specializing in rum it would have been nice if the bartender made some recommendations. I ended up getting a vodka drink. If you like rum, this is the place to be.

Great spot for a drink in New York

By kangelini |

Small bar but full of character and vibe. They make good drinks so worthwhile to come here either early or late.

Cute, Cozy Little Bar

By Emptynesters09 |

Great little wood-paneled piano/jazz bar. Tried a few of their happy hour specials. Some good, some not so good. Liked that they had live music playing. Nice place to enjoy music and drinks before theatre or after work, though not very conducive if you want to have conversations. Nice, personable bartender when we were there.

Excellent Spot!

By myfabny |

I love the vibe of the RUM HOUSE. Particularly on the days, they have live music. Great spot for pre-show cocktails!

$11 for a glass of wine

By Suetoyou |

Not much of a facilty for travelers, very dark and dingy inside. Drinks over priced, service non existent

poor, poor service

By mrtravel72 |

Sunday, Feb 25, 4PM. I walk in, there are 3 people at the bar, 2 ladies in a corner table and myself. Sat down, no service, bar tender is flirting with a female customer. Take out my phone, 10 minutes goes by; I check facebook, 2 email accounts, CNN, BBC and CBC news web sites. I get up and put on my coat and gather my things, bar tender still ignoring me...really??

Jazz and rum--what could go wrong?

By Reslysten54 |

After the Broadway show we looked for a place to have a drink before heading home. We got that, and more, at this tiny, crowded, lively, popular place. The band was great, with a saxophone player leading the show, engaging the public in sing-along, and introducing one guest after another to contribute with high level artistry. The menu of rum drinks is impressive, and if you can't find a good one, it is your fault. Small bites are on offer as well, and I can recommend the ham and gruyere sandwich. Just don't expect to talk much, because the music takes up all the space. So just lean back and enjoy the moment, and save your comments for the walk later.

Perfect meeting place

By NWRob |

The Rum House in the Edison Hotel is a perfect place to meet friends and have a pre theatre snack. It is located in the heart of Times Square, yet provides a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle on the street. Good service and a good bar and snack menu.

Wonderful Atmosphere

By Valerie M |

We stayed at the Hotel Edison and after a day of shopping we could hear the music from the lobby and decided to check it out. The music, drinks, and atmosphere were amazing! We cannot wait to come back!

A hidden treat

By Ken D |

I’ve been here a few times, it’s a great bar in midtown which is close to Times Square without getting mobbed with people like some of the bars right on it tend to be, it’s close enough to be able to go for drinks before or after a show and it has a great selection of drinks, reasonably priced

Awful

By Bagila N |

THE WORST BARTENDER IN THE WORLD. Guy bartender was so rude and unfriendly. Awful. Very regret that we went there. THE WORST BARTENDER IN THE WORLD. Guy bartender was so rude and unfriendly. Awful. Very regret that we went there.

Nice bar

By dag758 |

Visited here with my husband we went during happy hour and sampled a couple of drinks from this menu, we then stayed and sampled more from the normal menu!! The drinks I have to say were fantastic, the bar tender really knew what she was doing, she was quick, knowledgeable and on point with the drinks. The drinks were some of the best cocktails we have had and we have frequented many a bar!!!!! The bar itself has a very cool vibe. I would have preferred it if staff had been a little bit more friendly with a few more smiles, service goes a long way with me however that said, I can forgive due to the quality of the drinks.

Amazing visit

By Amie91 |

I came here with my Mum to enjoy the live music just off Time’s square. We had a great time. Enjoyed the jazz and the staff were lovely, especially Nick who was amazing. Would definitely recommend this bar.

Nice bar, cheeky bar guests

By Stijn v |

Nice bar with a nice atmosphere. But maybe the bar should pay the staff a normal salary. Instead of bar guests complaining that we don't tip enough. If we already pay more than 20% tip. And then at the end rudely say that we don't have to come back anymore. Luckily we didn't plan to do that anyway.

Just go. Thank me later - Authentic Old Manhattan - What a GEM!

By Marcie C |

As a Canadian who has been to New York almost a dozen times over the years, I have certainly developed a love for my favourite hot spots in the city. I JUST discovered The Rum House last Sunday night (September 24, 2023) along with my best friend (who found the place on google), and WOW were we ever surprised. I can say with certainty that this was likely my most favourite night I've ever spent in Manhattan, EVER. George and his band sang straight to my heart with all the classic songs you'd expect out of a vintage New York in the 40's, 50's and 60's. I sang my heart out without a care in the world while George stayed classy and hit every note as though he was Sinatra's, Martin's and Armstrong's living spirits! The drinks were great, the people were from all over the world, the staff was friendly and professional and the entire experience was a thrill. My heart needed that night, thank you for delivering. I will be back! Well done! Marcie.

Back to Broadway Bar

By Diginn |

We were fortunate that this bar adjoins the Edison Hotel where we stayed, yet, it had a street entrance, too. Great location for a quick beverage and appetizer between afternoon matinees and evening performances. Cocktails and service were impeccable, as were the tasty truffle pretzels!

Rude staff

By Jason M |

Stayed in attached hotel so called in for a beer. bouncer on door rude and dismissive. Bar staff unfriendly and $10 bottle of beer. Didn't come back. MUch nicer Irish bar down the street with friendly staff.

Great bar

By Gillian N |

Fabulous bar great Blues Band freat music fabulous cocktails gotta say drinks a little pricey but well worth a visit

Jazz Beat Club

By darrensullivan |

Visited The Rum House while on a night out, we were greeted and sat down at a table by a server, the tables and seats are very close together which is fine by me but might not be for everyone. I feel it gives the club more intimacy. The cocktail list is mostly rum based which is great if you love rum like me. However they also cover all the classics. I recommend the Old Cuban cocktail There was a jazz band playing and they were brilliant, piano, drum, bass and sax. The real winner for The Rum House is its authenticity, you cant buy a great atmosphere, perfect drinks, old style decor and the jazz. I really felt like beat, great experience. Love it.

Unique Spot

By ConnieMeyer |

A great, quaint spot of a good cocktail and great music in the heart of NYC. Has a good time. Will be back.

Had Cocktails at the Rum House

By MaureenT7224 |

Had a cocktail at the Rum House before heading out to dinner - it is actually just off the lobby of the Hotel Edison.

A Convenient Bar

By Bob S |

Connected to teh Hotel Edison the Rum House is a traditional New York bar with lots of dark wood. A convenient watering hole.

Beautiful music in an engaging environment

By Maurizio F |

I went with my wife for a late evening with live music and a drink. A great manouche jazz band was playing. The cocktail with rum and kiki is excellent. Very cheap prices. Very kind staff.

Rude staff and overpriced drinks

By Debz |

We were staying at the Edison Hotel and went into the Rum Bar for a drink and hopefully listening to the Jazz . We were told to stand in the middle of the room and wait to be assigned a table ( the place was virtually deserted ) ! After feeling awkward ,standing there for around five mins we sat at a very vacant table ( which thankfully promoted a response ) from an extremely rude loaded who told us she would do her best to finds a table ….. ahhh the place is empty ! After agreeing we could sit where we were for 90 mins (???) we were told we would have to purchase a minimum of two drinks each ! The menu was thrown on our table so while trying to read it we were told “no flashlights from your phone” and a small table lamp was out on our table . Dreadful experience ! After hearing from fellow hotel guests of similar experience to us I felt I HAD to write a review to tell others, especially like us if the look of this bar on the Edison hotel web site swayed you to book .

Nice atmosphere, good tunes & drinks

By John B |

We really liked the warm, comfortable ambiance of this bar and the blues/jazz music just melds with that atmosphere. The drinks were good, although a bit heavy-handed on the lime juice, which was remedied when we asked for the lime to be toned-down for the second round. We've been here twice and enjoyed both visits. Heads-up: their website claims they open at 12 PM but they didn't open until after 1 Pm on the Saturday we went.

Must go!!!

By Shawn P |

What an incredible place this is. Great handcrafted cocktails! INCREDIBLE music. Super cool joint with a great vibe. The wait is worth it. It’s a must go

DISAPPOINTING TO SAY TGE LEAST!

By Sue C |

This place SUCKS! Service is terrible… Went in and the place was almost empty and no one even acknowledged me… No one smiles... Food was terrible and the service was bad as well. Save your time and money and go somewhere else

The best NYC bar

By Ron T |

3 people working and no one came near our table, but I am a rum aficionado and this is the place to try the best rums in the world. Today was Zacapa and Papas Pilar, which are my favorite rums. But so little time and so many rums!

Don't bother unfriendly and not accommodating for groups over 4

By Elan P |

This was the worst bar we visited in New York, unaccomidating, unfriendly service from bar tender and server. We stayed in the attached hotel. Number of people in our party, we were nice but it wasn't reciprocated.

A secret treasure off Times Square

By Stevieconlon |

The Rum House is a bar on 47th Street adjoining the Hotel Edison. It reminds me of an old time joint and features jazz trios and live music on many nights. The bartenders and staff are friendly and the bar smoothly adapts to the ebb and flow of pre and post theater and after work crowds and groups. Great old time joint feel in spite of being next to the bright lights and action of Times Square. A longtime personal favorite spot.

A fine place for one drink - if you can find a table

By JudyMetroNYCarea |

The Rum House is a small bar connected to the Edison Hotel. It appears to have a mix of hotel guests and other tourists who stop here for a drink before going to a Broadway show. Drinks are pricey, food is limited, tables are small and packed tightly together. This is not a place for all night entertainment. Most tables were occupied by people slowly sipping a drink, killing time until their show started. It explains why the staff was a bit surly. If someone occupies a table for more than an hour with 1 drink, what could the tip be? Not much. We ordered some snacks: olives and pretzel. They were fine. So, a good place to stop and have a drink- if you can find a table.

The Service at the Rum House is wonderful!

By melissadaley |

We had a great time and the music was wonderful The staff was exceptional. The atmosphere is friendly.

great style, vibe and drinks!

By happywonderer17 |

found this bar during Memorial Day celebrations, if you thought New York was busy on a normal day! Great style and vibe, friendly staff and live music! Love our cocktails and so much history in that bar

Little Jazz Gem

By G13-Ireland |

Great little bar in the heart of Manhatten. Prices are very reasonable for NYC and staff & service is excellent. Whether you just want a drink or free jazz every night at 9.30pm. Great live music in an intimate setting, I would highly recommend this hidden gem for jazz lovers.

Excellent drinks in The Edison

By Michael S |

Rika (bartender)is knowledgeable and friendly! The atmosphere is sophisticated, inviting and relaxing. Friendly clientele. Great selection in rums. Well-worth a visit!

Unexpected in Times Square

By Betsy H |

Tory, our bartender, was fun to watch while making drinks. The three piece jazz band and singer played all the standards with style. The pub was small, intimate and with the dark wood quite inviting. The music, drinks, and atmosphere were pleasantly unexpected for Times Square. It will be my go to place after going to the theatre.

Crowded and popular

By Mike F |

Went in for a mid-evening drink after getting back from work. Difficult to find anywhere to stand, forget about sitting. Drinks served with reasonable speed given how busy it was, drinks not cheap but not over-expensive for where it is located. Not bad for one, at most 2, drinks as part of a larger evening plan.

Great Bartender!

By Jan R |

Troy was great at suggesting and mixing our rum cocktails. The selection of Rums was as you would expect from a place named the Rum House. We had 4 great drinks we can BARELY remember LOL, we will be back. They do have entertainment/Piano player that starts at 10:30, but we were ready for bed waaaay before that ;-)

Cracking place

By lasvegas062018 |

Beautiful little place with amazing selection of rums and personal service. Attached to our hotel so easy to start or finish the night In. I tried a few rums as the bar tender gave plenty of advice . Dark cosy bar gets very busy !

Very good drinks and service

By James |

Drinks and service are top notch. Not too heavily trafficked. Pretty spendy, but given it's midtown location, you kind of expect to pay more for drinks. My drink of choice is a mojito. And this place delivered. Several choices of quality rum from which to choose. If you're in Times Square, need a reprieve from the crowd, and aren't on a budget - this is a great watering hole.

December visit

By cmseasman1 |

Well ignore all these negative reviews about the barman, he was fab with us and very accommodating. Renee, the server was amazing, so friendly and drinks were served within minutes. Great music every night we were there, highly recommend,

Very disappointed

By Frieda S |

Went with a bunch of friends to hear rhythm and blues music. Spending close to $200.00. As we finished drinking & eating the show began ( the band started 15 minutes late) . Ten minutes into the show the waiter started cleaning off our table and said sorry we need your table for other customers. We were literally thrown out. Don't waste your time or money . The minute you stop ordering you will be thrown out. Extremely unhappy.

Great Retro Bar with Live Jazz

By Ruxandra A |

Fantastic Old NYC atmosphere, with a great variety of rums and proper cocktails (also, tasty nibbles, too). With my friends we tried a few different rums and cocktails, all very tasty and tasteful. To add to it, there is live jazz music in the evening! It is located in Midtown Manhattan, and the prices are really good for the quality of the drinks and bar snacks (including fresh pretzels and empanadas). Staff also very professional and friendly!

Hey! Hey! I'm over here... can I order? Please?

By Amy S |

What are the drinks like? I wouldn't know. We sat at the bar waiting to order for 15 mins while the barman chatted and polished glasses, blatantly ignoring us (and after giving us a menu to look over, no less). It may trade on being 'the bar from Birdman' but it's a tourist trap with bad staff. We left and got great (cheaper) drinks elsewhere. If you want a real jazz bar go to the Village.

Live Music is the Tops!

By Stephen J |

Great small bar with wonderful talent each night. From jazz to sultry singers the entertainment was top notch!

Great fun

By Janyce M |

This bar in the Hotel Edison is busy every night and has live music. People share space and interact easily. Lots of folks from around the world to share stories. Drinks are hearty and fairly reasonable for NYC. But it’s small and crowded so be ready to be cozy👍

Atmosphere

By Flavio P |

Have been here three times in 5 days during our vacation... go there and you'll know why. Wonderful place!

Nice bar but get there early!!

By Alasdair0169 |

Just arrived in NYC and went for some early drinks (16.30) at the Rum House Nice table in the window and 12-6 happy hour helps The Lager was very good and the girls loved the rum punch Our server was great and we sympathised as he’s an Arsenal fan!! The place filled up quickly at 17.30 and was packed and jumping As I say get there early!!

Great service, Great food

By tvnut |

Because we stayed at the Edison Hotel we found it very convenient to eat here. The service was impeccable and the food was the best we had in Time Square!

The place to be for aged rum afficianados

By Ron T |

A hundred or so rums and knowledgable bartenders guide you in choosing what is for your palate. Our friends had rum punch with a pineapple note and an outstanding fine rum taste base. Snacks, sandwiches and empanadas are the only food on the menu

GREAT SMALL BAR

By Toni D |

This is a great little bar - cozy and buzzing. Very popular with great staff and a cool atmosphere. They have live entertainment in the evenings - which is great - but can by a little loud if you are wanting to talk.

Captures the atmosphere of New York

By Roger H |

Lovely and memorable way to cap our last night in New York. That guy on the piano was immense! Loved the Norah Jones rendition- great double bass accompaniment. The half-lit saloon sets the atmosphere for relaxation, good conversation and fun. Drinks are pricey but that is New York; could have stayed in there all night.

Daiquiris are First Rate Here

By NJ-Eric |

Perfect Daiquiri and lovely service. What more could one ask? (Apparently to stretch this out to hit 100 characters.) Will be back!

Tasty cocktails

By AJR |

We stopped on a Monday around 6:30, and had some nice drinks. It seemed upscale and that the clientele just got off of work. The Old Fashioned was perfect, but the service was a little to be desired. We were off to a show, and had to get going. Waitress was nowhere to be found, and the guy at the bar was working very hard to ignore me as I just wanted to pay my bill and go. Despite ho hum service, the product was very good! This was a nice little hide away from Times Square.

Had an enjoyable stay and drinks are excelent

By Steve K |

A bit crowed but very cozy. another enjoyable place to visit while in NYC and either before or after a show.

Taking a step into New York culture

By Mattstriker |

A true original feel, oozing class. Amazing live music. A mix of hotel guests and off the street punters. Relaxed atmosphere, local New Yorkers, informative staff.

Geez, we were here twice in January. On a Wednesday and Thursday around 4:30 or so. But even though we sat down, and it wasn't that busy, no one paid attention to us. The waitresses were over by the cash register talking and visiting. The bartenders busied themselves with everything but the customers! After 15 minutes, the first night, we had to ask a server to take our order. The crafted cocktails were good that night, albeit expensive, nice touch with the garnishes and one large ice cube. So why weren't they the same the next night?? We would not have returned but a friend was meeting us there. THIS time we sat at a table, but my husband went straight to the bar to order the drinks -- and brought them to the table himself. Good strategy for the waitresses still were chatting up a storm at the end of the bar. Oh well, we saved some tip money!!!!

Classy drinks bar....

By John B |

The Rum House is attached to the Edison hotel but is open to the general public (and accessible from the sidewalk). Well appointed and welcoming, offering a variety of cocktails and spirits aplenty. Calm, friendly and tastefully decorated. We were drinks only so no comment on the food.

Best bar in Times Square

By rogerlaidler86 |

Happy hour at this place was well received. Had a rum punch which was lovely and the waitress was very pleasant also. The dim setting of the bar suits it well with candles on every table. The ambience cannot be beaten. Want to return!!

Excellent Cocktails and Great Live Music

By MrHao |

This is one of my favorite bars in the city, and I make a point of going anytime I'm in town. The cocktails are excellent - well crafted by a super knowledgeable bar staff. Selection of spirits (Rum in particular, go figure) is quite good. Ambiance is great, cozy, old-school. And the live music - frequently a little jazz or blues combo in my experience, just tops off the overall experience. A gem of a bar.

The Rum House

By Georgette M |

This little place is a gem. Different live music . One night it was jazz, another night Blues. Drinks were very good . Need to get there early for a table

Nice little bar with live music

By lawmom4 |

This is a classy little bar, that has live music after about 9:30. I stayed in the Hotel Edison, so it was nice to be able to access the bar from the hotel as well.

Great discovery, great memories

By Roaming_user |

We went there as we were staying at the Edison hotel. It was a great discovery. It is small but you feel right in a bar in the 30's. On a Sunday evening they had an amazing local band (Mimi & the podd brothers) playing great music! We were glad we tried the place!

Very Good Food

By Mason Shaw |

This is a very good place to go when you are getting back from you show and its 9:00 and dont want to leave the hotel. The food is very good. There is music somtimes its live the food is great. The bar is a great place to go everyone if nice. I would go here again.

Do Not Bother!

By Jenny G |

My friend and I had been so looking forward to some great evenings of jazz in the bar attached to our hotel whilst visiting NYC. We were sorely disappointed. Greeted (loosely) by a guy in a long coat and a beret before he heading off elsewhere leaving us stood there wondering what he'd just said. We spotted several empty tables and sat down at one... mistake number 1 according to the rude and power happy waitress. We were advised that there wasn't availability (despite all the empty tables) and told us that we should have booked if we wanted to drink there but she would see if she could find us space. Came back to advise we could stay there but would have to buy 2 drinks each and be gone in 90 minutes time. She gave us drinks menus but it was so damn dark that we couldn't read them. Used my phone torch to read and was immediately told off by the waitress. We then spotted a couple of little lanterns they handed out here and there for anyone who needed to actually be able to see to choose their drink. We would happily have bought more drinks and would love to have listened to the jazz but chose to leave even before the jazz started because of how unwelcoming they were. What a shame for the hotel that the bar they mention on their website is so damn rude and unwelcoming.

Hidden Gem in the Times Square Area

By Kevin P |

The Rum House is truly a hidden gem. Full of the charm of days past with its rich wood and leather interior, there is nightly music, friendly patrons, and an upbeat atmosphere. A great way to wind down your evening.

Great cocktails

Lovely bar and great cocktails. The jazz was amazing. As visitors from the UK we asked Chris for places to eat and all three he mentioned where brilliant

Entertaining Evening out at a Jazz Club

By lolabunzzz |

I visited NYC during the Christmas season with friends and we walked the streets until we came upon this jazz club. Very pleased we decided to check it out, there was a bit of a line to get in, maybe 10- 15 mins wait on a Sunday night about 9pm. We didn't eat food, it was more drinks and a good vibe on a Sunday night. It looks unassuming from outside, but it was a good time and I recommend the experience. The music was very good. It was a wonderful last minute experience added to our trip.

Waitstaff cares more about their conversations than waiting on customers

By Jackie W |

Yea, the drinks were ok, but they made no effort to bring me my drink. They were going to finish their conversation first, so I just got up to get it myself. When I asked for what playlist they were using, they didn't want to tell me what it was. Really? Like i'm going to start my own bar and use the same spotify playlist....Grrr Drinks were decent and they have a long happy hour (with local beer and rum punch). that's the only reason they get 2 stars...

Memorable New York experience

By Ed B |

We just popped in for a cocktail and sat there for 3 hours listening to Terry Waldo and his pals play some brilliant jazz while drinking some great cocktails. Not cheap, but definitely worth it and would particularly recommend the "Golden Boy". On a short trip to NY it was a memorable evening, all the more so for being unplanned but if we return to NYC we will definitely return the Rum House

Quaint but lively rum lounge

By Carmen |

Great little spot with ambient lighting, live jazz, and great drinks! Server was excellent gave us details about where the rums were made and their distinctive flavor. This will be my go to spot to taste and explore new rums in NYC.

NYC

Excellent location in the Hotel Edison lobby area! Great drinks and entertainment nightly. Close to Time Square and Broadway.

Wow

By Karen F |

We saw the high reviews on TripAdvisor and weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere, amazing drinks and live music every night. We saw Mimi & The Podd Brothers, a great jazz trio and already plan to return later during our stay.

Rude Host but great music

By cynthia l |

Excited to see a friend performing at the Rum House and came into the city to stay at the Edison just for this reason. It was crowded and we waited for a table first at the bar then seated on a bench by the band. When the tables became available the host refused to seat us saying “not for you.” People who came in after us were seated at tables. We ordered drinks at the bar and enjoyed an hour and a half of music before the host came to tell us we could not sit where we had been sitting and needed to go wait by the bar. A classy place with an utterly crass individual running the customer experience.

I love this place

By GavinGoesPlaces |

It's small, the menu gets pricey, it's hard to get in, it's hard to get a seat sometimes. If you're going to complain about this or the price, it's best to just not come. The Rum House is great all the time, but when the snow is falling outside, it's especially even better. It's one of "those" kind of places.

Rum and Nice

By d4Bal |

Great selection of rum, good bar staff and fun atmosphere. We ordered bar food which was very nice but had much more run than food. Great night although leaving was hazy.

Great atmosphere - and cocktails.

By Glaswegian148 |

My friends and I stayed in the Edison Hotel for 4 nights and visited the Rum House several times. The service was good and the rum punches certainly enhanced my holiday! The "happy hour" was elastic and popular with locals too.

Don’t be pressurised

By topsy779 |

I agree with many of the reviews also staying at Edison hotel went in for a drink and to listen to music rude staff insisting I buy 2 drinks each I was probably going to as we were going to listen to the singer but left as I’m not going to be pressurised into buying alcohol

Great ambiance

By Lisa H |

Stop by even just to check out the art deco theme. The Hotel Edison is great and a drink at The Rum House is a must stop if you are there. I enjoyed the Frank very much. But from a look at the menu, you can't go wrong with any drink.

Small but Fun!

By Katrina K |

The staff at The Rum House was so friendly and helpful. Drink offerings were fun and the music was great!

A great little bar with a cool vibe and music.

By Steve D |

As we were staying in the Edison we came here on a few occasions. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and the cocktail list has plenty of drinks to tempt. We tried quite a few of the rum cocktails which were very good. The nightly music is very good, and plays the older genre of American music, which is great to see and hear. If in the area, a visit to The Rum House is a must.

Brilliant bar in Times Square

By emjmm_ |

This was by far the BEST bar we visited while in New York. The entertainment on the evening we were there was a jazz band and they were amazing and added to the atmosphere of the bar. The drinks are average price for Times Square (expect to pay anything between $8-$12 for a drink). The night we were there was incredibly busy so I would recommend getting there early so that you can get a seat. This typical New York bar really added to the whole experience of our trip and we would recommend to anyone who is staying local to Times Square!

Maybe the Best Bar In Times Square

By Frank C |

The Rum Bar may be the best bar in or near Times Square. It's a classic old dark-paneled room with an incredible rum selection, very capable bartenders, a great craft cocktail menu and usual an excellent little combo playing in the evening.

Old School Atmosphere

By schnauzer67or68 |

We've walked by this place a hundred times (easy to do!) but stopped in for pre-theater cocktails on concierge's recommendation. Wound up sitting at the bar (it's a fairly small space); we quite enjoyed our bartender, drinks, and the historic, cozy vibe. A great spot to escape the hoopla of Midtown/Times Square for a bit.

Charming stylish Rum Bar

By Mrswynne84 |

This charming little bar was tucked away a couple of blocks down from our hotel, and we’re glad we found it. It was very busy inside, but that’s always a good sign. A good menu of rum-based cocktails was given to us, and the drinks we had were tasty and well-made. The bar staff were excellent, and there was a small jazz band playing which really added to the atmosphere. We wish we could have stayed longer, but we’re just not wealthy enough to pay $15 a drink all night.

Surprisingly Fantastic Drinks and Live Music Just Outside Times Square

By LaurenCDaniels |

Quality: Awesome! The drinks are on point, and the bartenders really know their stuff. Decor/Atmosphere: the place is attached to the Edison hotel, but has a rustic feel. All the chairs, tables, and barstools are wooden. The bar and all its shelves are wooden as well. Black and white tiles speckle the floor. There is a piano, and Terry Waldo used to plays a live music jam session every Monday. It's Really good. Service: The drinks are amazing! Seriously, they're on the short list for best Manhattan drinks in NYC. It's not always quick, as it can get crowded. But true art takes time, and it's always well worth the wait. Also, they serve popcorn.

very good place to go and relax after a long day of sightseeing and shopping. run punch was great staff was very good

First class location, old-school vibe

By Josh H |

It seems that any time you would come here, this place will be busy. Don’t expect to find a seat immediately. But this is exactly why we came, just to have a bustling experience. We came on a Sunday night, and there was live music, which seems to be the case many nights. If there is live music, you will have a great time here. Expect the drinks to be pricey, but what else would you think when the location is just a block off of Time Square? Our small group had a nice time making a stop along the way during our evening. It is also very convenient for anybody checking out a Broadway show.

Disappointed. Had high hopes.

By Chad P |

Three night stay at The Edison and purposely saved our last night for The Rum House only to be let down by a rude staff member. We entered from the hotel side and were told to take a table. It’s really dark and we are not old people but took out our phone to read the drink menu only to be scolded that we had a light on and we were being discrete about it. We are professionals made to feel like second rate citizens. Sat for ten minutes thinking we’d stick with it only for no one to return to wait on us. We left.

Stayed for a while

By jelmwood |

Happened in on a Sunday afternoon. Great bartender. Really nice atmosphere. Old school bar. The tender made a mean Maitai

Great Bar . Great Music

By DavidK1030 |

Rum House makes the best drinks. The mixologists add their special touch and do their magic. The live entertainment is great . I could sit there all night and listen if I didn't have to get up in the morning. Check it out .

The Definition of Poor Service

By Traveler2121 |

Three of us went in during a late afternoon where the bar was far from crowded. A waitress strolled past the table where we were seated and said in a flat, apathetic tone that we had to order at the bar.( I still wonder what her purpose was there.) There was one bartender at the bar and a few patrons seated at the bar. He managed to do things behind the bar at the other end and ignored me for a while. Then he came over and I gave my order for three simple cocktails. He then talked to the seated patrons at the bar and took their orders. He continued to do a masterful job of ignoring me. Finally, he came back over to me and asked me to repeat my order as he had forgotten it. After we finally got our drinks and then finished them, I went back to the bar to pay. Again, the ignoring act continued on and on. I must emphasize it was not crowded and it was not busy. I kept wondering if I had said or done something to offend him but I had so little face time with him, that was not the case, In addition, the atmosphere was dark and dingy. There is no reason to ever return there.

Nice little place.

By Night_Bridge1 |

Popped in for a quick drink before heading off for a meal. Lovely little place with great decor and a good atmosphere. Great selection of drinks, bar snacks and cocktails. Excellent live music performance when we visited. Worth a visit!

Not cheap

By eddieprice13 |

Very expensive drinks. Has a jazz group playing. Tried several rum drinks however, they are an heck of a lot more expensive than in the UK

Friends/business

By Barbara B |

Were here for a conference. Googled best martini close to me and this darling place came up. Felt very retro. Black &!white tile floors. Entertaining cocktail list! Only small plates not really a restaurant. Just go. You won’t regret it.

Music, rum and atmosphere in droves

By Melange B |

One of the highlights of my New York trip. Should be on everyone's to do list. It was packed , but the staff come to you so you don't have to brave the bar. Yes its $14 a cocktail, but they make them strong, aka just right. Great service Great cocktails I'll be back.

Great spot for after-show drinks

By Avi_Shaul |

We had drinks after a nice show at this place. Cool, dark with large options menu, this is a gods spot for Pre or post diner drinks

Cozy

By spdar0ca |

I was surprised that this little place is so cozy and relaxed. We went there for drinks before our dinner in the City and had a very pleasant time. We ordered rum (of course!), a dirty martini, and champagne. The olives were good and plenty for the four of us. We shall go back!

Best Hot Buttered Rum!

By Grandmalinda273 |

This bar is conveniently situated by the Hotel Edison. The music is great and the bartenders are fabulous. Make sure you try the Hot Buttered Rum drink!

Great Place Mid Town Manhattan

By KevinPenthouse |

Great little place . .. in midtown hotel bar . . . but throw those stereotypes out the window . . funky juke joint with boggie wooggie rock n roll blues on piano old school place . . service was killer and crowd was also . . .exotic drinks and location

Busy place with cool vibes

By Kelli |

We stopped in for a pre-show drink. It took a bit to get served because they sat our server with multiple tables at once. We ended up asking for our check when to ordered so we could pay/tip cash and leave on our own time. Our drinks were great and our server was friendly! Hopefully on a future visit we’ll have more time to hang.

Cool cocktail bar with live music

By John F |

Small, casual, candlelit, wood panelled piano bar, connected to the Edison Hotel with live music is worth a mention. Great jazz trio when I went, nice atmosphere. They don't do food, just nibbles. Cocktails and craft beers

Small but Lively Bar

By Emma C |

This bar was attached to our hotel, it was quite busy so we couldn't get a table to sit at until after the live music had finished. we had a great time in here, drinks on par with anywhere else - you get a good measure!!

Good music

By Charles P |

The music is the top draw here. Good location, too. The menu is limited and the service was not what you'd call "with a smile."

small, little crowded but a beautiful bar with lively atmosphere and live music. Would definitely go again!

By Mr_AK_82 |

We were staying at Marriott Marquis nearby and a quick search showed us this bar. Loved the atmosphere inside with live music, lively atmosphere, fun, and friendly people talking to each other. A bit crowded for our taste especially during the pandemic but it is what it is. The bartender was knowledgeable and very friendly, I think his name was Jade (I might be wrong). He recommended me a drink and I loved it, my wife ordered old fashion and it was one of the best old fashion in our experience. Definitely recommended.

Came highly recommended!

By ken h |

When a bartender recommends a place to stop you have to do it! We couldn’t get there at night for the Jazz but checked it our prior to leaving NYC .. great stop .. Sarah was our server and she was a treasure ... when we return it will be a night stop for sure. Ps the empanadas were out of this 🌎

Be aware !!

By Devya A |

⸻ After visiting the rum bar earlier in the week, We had a really enjoyable and personal experience thanks to the barman. We enjoyed it so much that we returned on Saturday evening, especially as there was a live jazz band playing. However, the experience this time was very different. On arrival, the doorman immediately told us the bar was full. My husband explained that we’d been earlier in the week and it had been recommended to us. He went inside to check and then waved us in, saying he’d “found some space.” As soon as we walked in, it was clear the bar wasn’t full at all there was plenty of space to move around. We ordered our drinks and noticed a free table, so we sat down. Shortly after, one of the managers approached us and said that you could only sit if you ordered at least two drinks. As we settled, and with music playing, a second manager came over and repeated the same message, adding that it had to be two drinks per person and that we would only have 90 minutes to drink. While we were more than happy to order drinks and stay for a couple of hours, being told we must buy a minimum of two drinks and finish them within 90 minutes felt excessive. It completely changed the atmosphere. Instead of feeling welcomed, it felt like the focus was on how much money they could take rather than offering a great experience especially compared to the warm, personal service we’d had on Thursday. A word of caution: while the bar itself is lovely, some of the managers may come across as pushy about spending rather than ensuring guests have an enjoyable experience!!

A small beautiful Times Square bar -- but packed and noisy

By JonS44240 |

Adjacent to the Hotel Edison on 47th St, this small, dark-paneled bar should be a quiet, romantic retreat -- but forget that. Perhaps it's so on weekdays, but in weekend nights it is packed with all seats taken and many standing, with no room to mill around. Both weekend nights we stopped in but the music was loud and meaningful conversation was difficult. Well named, though, with a vast array of quality rums and rum-based drinks.

Great spot for cocktails and live music

By Drumaqueen_MW |

We go to Cuba every year so this was right up our street! Relaxing vibe with superb live jazz music and every type of rum you could possibly dream of (and plenty we hadn't heard of either) Great staff, friendly, professional service

Not what we expected

By 774Pat |

In reading reviews of The Rum House, we knew that they had an extensive selection of rums and expected a high-end atmosphere. The selection of rums did not disappoint but the atmosphere was more dive bar than upscale. The first bartender wasn't very good. I selected a rum, told him that I wanted a glass of ice on the side and he brought me a rum and coke with a glass of ice. I explained that I just wanted the rum. He then brought me the rum with a glass of coke on the side??? The next bartender, a young woman, was very good. She was knowledgeable about the rums and didn't try to make everything into a rum and coke.

Great date night

By Mizbcurly |

The night we visited the rum house they had a live band and they were awesome! The atmosphere is fun. There is no dress code you can come relaxed or dressy and feel comfortable either way. We met a lot of people enjoyed a lot of laughs. If you want to mingle you can if you want to relax and cuddle you can do that also. Great bar!!

A jazzy bar with great craft drinks in Times Square

By ef10s2 |

We loved the feel of this place. Great jazz quartet with singer playing the American songbook and interpretations of more contemporary songs as well. Dimly lit. Rustic like an old speakeasy. A little crowded and noisy but that added to the ambiance and energy of the room. And the craft cocktails made by expert bar tenders were complex and unique and of high quality. Exceptional.

Very good bar close to Times Square

By philip949 |

The Rum House is a very nice and well stocked bar close to Times Square. It is on the ground floor of the Edison Hotel but it is not owned by the Edison so you cannot take your drinks into the hotel. There are signs and it is enforced. There's happy hour early evening when wines and punches are $10 and beers / lagers $5. Outside of happy hour all the prices rise significantly, but remember the location; it's expected. The bar area can get pretty crowded but the ambience is excellent. One night we saw some musicians but on another night half the bar was closed off for a private function so we struggled to get in. We were impressed to find last orders are called for a 3:30am closing so you'll find plenty of people coming in and out all night closely monitored by the doormen. We thoroughly recommend the Rum House and will definitely return on our next visit to NYC.

Would not darken door again !

By yvonne d |

So disappointed with the staff at the Rum house ! we were staying at the fabulous Edison hotel and popped in for a drink after an extremely hectic day (second time in NYC) our 2 sons 21 and 37 were asked to show ID fair enough ! My husbands joke " what about his ," (he is 67) was met with a glare ! We went to sit at a very ordinary table to be shouted at by another member of staff ..can't sit there unless each of you is having a minimum of 2 drinks !!!! We only wanted 1 at that moment might have had second if we were welcomed ...as the bar stools were all full we stood in the bar area this is absolutely unforgiveable when there were many empty tables to insist a 67 year old stands and still paying for the privilege ....HELLO ??? what's going on here ?? Oh wait let's add insult to injury the 21 year old feeling slightly uncomfortable decided not to have even a soft drink to be told by yet another extremely unfriendly snd rude member of staff he could not stand on the floor in the bar drinkless even though he was with 3 full paying alcohol drinking adults ..now Rum house that is taking the absolute proverbial ! come on Edison hotel don't let yourself down with this horrendous treatment of your guests you deserve better and so do we !! This is not the New York welcome the rest of hotel portrays ! We didn't venture in again during our week long stay but found many very very welcoming places near by where my husband could sit wherever he fancied and my son could drink coke tap water coctails or nothing atall without feeling like ....?? .I have no words left ..PS I usually up ratings as I know hospitality is a tough business I worked in it for years but service with a smile and definitely a seat is a must !!!!

The worst service in New York

By Bernardo N |

The red-haired waitress was very inelegant with us. We arrived with the bar empty and stayed at a bad table because of her. At the time of paying we were coerced into paying a tip saying that it was the rule of the house.

Nice atmosphere

By L M |

While staying in Hotel Edison, my sister and I had pre dinner drinks in the Rum House. Cool decorations and nice atmosphere. Pretty steep pricing with 2 drinks (incl tax and tip) costing around $50. However, this is probably to be expected given its location. Would still recommend visiting.

Great place to have a drink and listen to music

By Jillana Esposito |

We came to Rum House after seeing Beautiful on a Saturday night on the recommendation of our bartender at T45 at the Hyatt Centric hotel. It was packed but we were able to get a spot at the bar. The bartender was amazing. We have never seen someone handle so large a crowd with such ease and expertise. The music was fabulous - Danny Lipsitz and the Brass Tacks. So great. Would definitely return to this spot. We didn't eat so can't rate the food.

Great Hang-Out!

By KyMask |

The Rum House is a great place to hang out after theatre. There's always a jazz combo or a vocalist for entertainment. Crowded in a good way!

Great jazz and drinks for a late evening out

By Michele C |

Wow, we feel like we hit one out of the park by finding "THE RUM HOUSE" for after-dinner drinks and entertainment! We went to the 7pm Friday night performance of "Moulin Rouge" and then immediately ran to get in line at The Rum House. Luckily got in and found seats after just maybe 15-20 minutes of waiting. TOTALLY WORTH IT. There was a four-piece jazz ensemble that night that were fantastic. Truly enjoyed the music. Talented bartender -- I had a couple of rum daiquiris (NOT frozen) that were delicious! The warm soft pretzel was just perfect to soak up the liquor! What a charming venue. We really enjoyed our late night at The Rum House. Will definitely return the next time we are in New York!

Stopped in for a drink

limited food menu... like really, there is nothing to eat here, very small space. Only one person working the bar and he was also serving drinks to the tables.

Loved it here, great atmosphere

we spent a lovely evening here, its only small but we were lucky enough to get a seat in the window. it has a great atmosphere and its dark and cosy. we had a mai tai which was nice but blew our heads off :-) we stuck to the delicious pina coladas after that .

Don’t expect to stay long

By Jay S |

Visited this bar as it’s attached to the hotel. Asked the server for a sherry as it’s advertised on the menu and was told no and laughed at as he walked off and served someone else. Was given a table and ordered some nibbles which took an age to arrive as did the drinks which seemed very overpriced even with the tax added $30 for a beer an a rum which is priced at $23 before tax., I think they may be adding the gratuity without telling you. The whole evening was ruined when as the music started we and another couple we had met were given the bill and asked to leave as they needed the tables for other guests who had reserved a table, this despite their website clearly stating they don’t do reservations. We had spent over $300 between the two tables and were literally asked to leave. The hotel were powerless to do anything as it’s a separate business and nothing to do with them despite them advertising it a a hotel facility. You will be better off saving your cash and visiting the Irish bar just down the street as they will allow you to actually enjoy your evening without kicking you out once they’ve had enough of your dollars.

Romantic Perfection!

By JulieFabris |

We give this place a thousand stars. Romantic, candles, amazing Rum drinks (I had the Escape and my husband had Bright Lights big City)and you will feel like you are on a first date all over again. Definately go after sunset.

New York State of Mind

By K K |

This bar offers drinks mostly based on rum as the name would suggest. The greatest asset is the atmosphere & interesting music talent that coalesces around the piano area. We witnessed a trio morph into a quintet. The size of the room requires no amplification for musicians & almost imposes dynamic literacy on rogue loud instruments. There was no cover or table charge the several nights that we attended, so it is suggested that a donation to the musical talent be made directly to the musicians. Washrooms are located in the lobby of the Edison hotel.

Fun Bar in the Theater District

By atima |

Nice bar with knowledgeable bartenders. Yes, it's on the smaller side and can get very busy as it's right in the heart of the theater district, but it's a great spot to meet for a pre- or post-theater drink. We'll be back.

Loved this place, great drinks and live jazz

By Ian K |

Stopped in late after a weeknight show and the bar was hopping. Luckily we got two seats at the bar as another couple was getting up. They have a great handcrafted bar menu and the bartenders put a lot of effort in making each drink... but with 2 bartenders and a crowded bar, it does take some time to get a drink. We had a few tasty cocktails, listened to some great jazz over the loud talking and generally had a great time. This should be a stop on your NYC bar crawl in the Theater district/Times Square area.

Nice cocktails
