Had friends in from out of town wanted an Irish Pub type place for dinner and so we selected this place. A major mistake. Entered the door with a no smoking sign in the entry yet two people smoking and no one from pub went to tell them move outside they were in the entry way. Watercress sat us gave us menus after 10 min she came back and took drink order then she came back 5 times to see if we made decision on food yet no drinks. Next drinks finally arrived we placed our food order. Last we saw of her or any one for 35 min then we got attention of a guy who checked on food and took 2nd drink order. He also disappeared, food came out half of things missing. The missing items took another 25 min to get then the 2nd drink order showed up. We asked for our checks the waiter had no idea of what we ordered or who ordered what. You ask me if we would recommend to anyone! Food that showed up was ok not great or good ok.

Loved this place. A couple of blocks from my office but didn't even know it was there. It's a step-down, dark, pub/tavern style decor as others have posted. A little tired around the edges but not too bad and added character in my opinion. Service for lunch was efficient, food was good. Prices pretty standard for NYC ($15 for burgers and the like) so I don't understand the posts complaining about the prices. Would I go back? Heck yeah. Seems like it would be a good place for pints with coworkers after hours. Look forward to checking out the back patio when the weather improves.

Lively, great food and great service the patio area is lovely and the wall are full of pictures regarding the history of the hotel owner

Shepherd's Pie was a dream come true and the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies (Kid's plate) rock!

Felt the food was overpriced for what it was and the menu very limited. Charged different prices for the same drinks every time. There may have been an offer on but if so this was not clear!

After a workshop, we were searching for a quick bite and a drink before heading back home at Grand Central. We found The Wheel Tapper on google and made our way over. Upon entering, it was evident that patrons were enjoying their time-it was loud, but not obnoxiously so. We were seated quickly, even though the wait staff had to bring chairs from other parts of the restaurant. They did so hastily. My friend and I ordered cosmos-we should have stuck to wine. They weren’t good! The food was typical bar food-crunchy crusted single margherita pizza, potato skins and sliders. They were average. Our server was sweet and attentive, and very busy! Oh-the bathroom was spotless, which is always a good indicator! All in all, it was a nice place and a great evening with friends.

Stayed at the Fitzpatrick so we ate in here a lot and it did not disappoint. Great value and good portion sizes. breakfast was great and the gluten free bread was a great touch, it's hard to find in UK!!! Smoking area is excellent too :)

Not a great choice for breakfast from the menu. Last breakfast in New York. A 'Full Irish' for him and a Wheeltappers sausage on brioche. Pretty but ordinary especially for the price!! No sauce or 'ketchup' offered, no toast either. The soda bread with the breakfast were beyond doorsteps and the butter straight from the fridge. Not very Irish we don't think. So with tea.....and added grats and tax $58 US. £50. Mmmm makes Wendys sound appetising.

Stayed at the hotel attached to this pub! Great food with huge portions as is usual! Showed Champions League football so my husband was pleased

Specious bar, fast service, clean restrooms, very central location. People in my company who ordered food was satisfied.

Great food, good location, not the greatest service. This place is connected to the fitzpatrick hotel. Enjoyed a nice brunch here, not the warmest environment in terms of service. Server was quite brute and not the most personable, but hey, the food was great.

We ate twice in The Wheeltapper, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both meals were lovely and staff were very friendly. It has a lovely atmosphere with a beer garden out the back. There is a tarpaulin cover for when it rains that they pull over. Highly recommended.

I can only speak to the breakfast here...and it was great! Waitstaff was very accommodating to our 1-year old daughter, bringing her a cup of fruit to keep her occupied while we waited on our main course. Wish we could have had time to have drinks and dinner here because it seemed like a fun place!

We visited here as it was part of the hotel we were staying in and had a great breakfast. The pancakes were fantastic. There is a good choice on the menu and you can choose various items and build up your own breakfast. We would definitely return.

We tried this place out as we stayed in the hotel above it - didn't disappoint. Food was great, best battered fish we had eaten on the whole trip. Gin was very expensive though - about $50 for 3. Staff we very friendly and approachable. Overall though, no complains, would recommend

This Irish-themed bar has great atmosphere -- good food and fast service. If you are staying at the Fitzpatrick hotel it is a perfect place for breakfast or supper.

Had breakfast two mornings. Service couldn't have been better. Pancakes were enormous but very good. American breakfast also excellant.

We liked this place, though a big part of our favorable experience was the fact that it is set up to resemble a railway terminal (Grand Central is a half-block away), has (mainly English) railway memorabilia decorating some of the walls, and has a good selection of beers and other beverages. It was a rainy, rotten night, so we decided to have dinner there, too. That's when you notice that it seems expensive, at least when you are used to small-city Midwest pricing, as we are. I should quickly add that it probably is not bad for mid-town Manhattan. And the food was mixed. We ordered potato-skins as appetizers. There was quite a bit of mashed potato in them - they tasted OK, but we expect more of the good stuff and less potato. My entrée was fine, though pricey, but my wife got a Shephard's Pie, and she immediately did not like it. I tried some, and I did like it, because it reminded me a bit of chili con carne. Trouble is, a shephard's pie is not supposed to be like chili. Based on our experience, we would definitely stop here again, but next time, probably just for drinks.

it has the twist of being part of a nice hotel, and the patio area is much better that the "pub" per se which does not offer anything special

It's in that midtown east side area where there are a lot of "pubs", but this one was fine. We could ignore the karaoke up front, and I kind of liked that it was going on because it said that this was a real neighborhood joint. The service was good, the Reuben sandwich was good, the beer was good, the prices were good.

Definitely a nice area outside. Big heaters, tv and comfy couch seating as well as tables. The beer was $8 and the first one purchased was flat. Asked for a different brand with some life to it and the server was like...okay. Looked like he couldn't understand what was wrong with flat beer. The next were fine. The wine is $10 per glass...which is fine in NYC, but the glasses are from the 70's. Small. Buy some new wine glasses! We had the potato skins which was fine. We stopped in last year, and left after our first drink as the bar woman was not nice at all---seemed to be doing us a favor. All in all, will stop in again when the weather is nice to sit out and hope for a nice experience.

Nice traditional Irish pub with good food and service. There are two bars and a patio with canopy. Busy pub on Thursday evenings. Had live Irish music on Friday evening. Part of the Fitzpatrick hotel (Grand Central)

I am one of a couple of individuals visiting our NYC office for training and the company picked the Wheeltapper as an after hours get together destination as it is close to the office. The atmosphere is very Pub like and keeping with the vibe and feel. We had a section of the back patio reserved and it was nice with waitstaff that was available to take drink orders. The weather was very nice so being outside with a view of the clear sky was a nice addition to the loud and packed patio. We had appetizers as well which were a hit with everyone there. Would definitely recommend for dinner or drinks later in the evening.

A great pint of guinness is served. The staff are all friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was lively but a good craic is to be had. Can get a little busy at times especially 6-9pm, it seems many office workers go there after work but still a great pub.

Conveniently located adjoining the Fitzpatrick Hotel where we stayed. On our first evening having just arrived after a tediously long journey, the Wheel Tappers was packed solid and so noisy with a rising crescendo of voices as everyone vied to get themselves heard. The interior is a typical Irish pub, decorated in dark Oak with train/station memorabilia adorning the walls. The waiting staff were very helpful in finding us a table quickly when we explained we were tired, hungry and needed to sleep! The food was good, if a little pricey, but where isn't in NY!

A typical Irish bar with numerous cozy conversation areas. Appeals to locals and visitors alike. Enjoyed it every day while staying at the attached Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel. Breakfast, lunch, dinner or just drinks.

we ordered burgers for lunch and Irish Breakfast (the brown bread was to die for) while staying at the Fitzpatrick...great job!!

Nice Irish pub with an authentic feel. Friendly staff, nice freshly prepared food in big portions! Yummy bread basket! Nice breakfast :) Recommended bar with a lively mix of tourist and locals

We got breakfast vouchers so decided to try it out. The food was average. One server was good and the other was lousy so we were not impressed. Won't go back again.

We stayed in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central for a week and we ate almost all of our meals in the Wheeltapper, which is just downstairs. Lovely friendly atmosphere with very helpful staff. Breakfast was fabulous every day! Evening menu doesn't have a great selection but all the meals we had were very tasty. Also, we were able to watch the hurling final on the Sunday morning!

The staff where great really friendly and great service. The beer garden was comfy. It was strange as during the week it was so busy whereas the weekend it was quiet.

Had Christmas dinner here while staying at Fitzpatrick Hotel. The Shepherd's Pie was wonderful. Also the special ham/turkey Christmas plate was good, with the best mashed potatoes we've had at a restaurant. For breakfast had the Irish poached eggs which were good also. Very warm, cozy atmosphere. Excellent hotel restaurant.

The service is superb & the atmosphere charming--it's the menu that's lacking. My burger was quite good, but the house salad was oversaturated in dressing, the fries too hot & the apple pie was not warmed & tasted like a grocery store-bought dessert from the freezer. In other words, meh--And certainly not worth over $50. Perhaps it would be worthwhile trying other entrees, but they certainly need to elevate their "pub grub" game at the prices they charge.

Decent little pub which is attached to the Fitpatrick Hotel, Grand Central. The food was good if not great. Busy spot especially on a Thursday and Friday evening where the after work party group seem to gather. Pretty nice outdoor area as well for those who smoke or vape or just want some fresh(if you could call new york air fresh) air.

We didn't eat in the pub so can't comment on the food, but we did visit a few times for a beer as we were staying in the hotel adjacent. In the early evenings in the week it gets very busy, & has a fun atmosphere. When we visited during the weekend it was much quieter. We enjoyed it.

I've been to the Wheeltapper several times. The food, service, and cold beer has always been on mark. Tried the BLEAT sandwich for the first time and was quite impressed. BLEAT stands for bacon, lettuce, egg, avocado, and tomato....yummm!!!

Whilst staying we visited the Wheeltapper pub for a early evening meal after a long days sightseeing. As a British couple we made the classic mistake of ordering 'chips' which are crisps!!!! ha!ha! food okay, lively early evening atmosphere in Irish pub.

Well we cane across this one by chance whilst walking down Lexington Avenue. As we strolled in we saw it was busy however there was a little alcove we found inside which was truly private and great to have a one on one. Talking to the bar man about a Manhattan he told me the difference between the bourbon which was quite impressive and made one of the best I’ve tasted. It’s all about the bourbon he said. The menu has a bit of everything and you won’t be disappointed however going in there for drinks was our primary motive as we felt at home here.

Very nice place, restaurant and pub, for drinks and dinner. Very good service. If crowded you may not find a table, but you can enjoy.

Lovely friendly bar that reminds me of a train. Lovely helpful staff and good food with plenty of it. Staff take time to speak to you after you walk in from shopping all day. Nice having a drink before going up to our room to refresh. Can't wait to go back x

We ate here after a hard days exploring, friendly, reasonably priced, had a booth, so lots of room. Enjoyable.

Stayed at the Fitzpatrick hotel, where the WheelTapper is located. Ate there breakfast for 10 days in a row and never, not even once, were dissapointed. The pancakes are unbelievebly good and the French toast is to die for. The staff were always nice and helpful.

My wife and I recently visited NYC for the holidays - we stayed at The Fitzpatrick - Grand Central for a week. The Wheeltapper is conveniently located next to the hotel. Food: Re Breakfast - their menu gives homage to its Irish ambiance - which pleases me since my wife is (part) Irish ;) We ordered an Irish Omelet, Irish Sausage, Irish Toast, 'Irish' everything. Our coffee was constantly topped off, with decadent mango, peach, and strawberry jam on the side - on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest - (5)! Re Dinner - we had probably the best burger in the Grand Central - topped off with "Irish" bacon. Let me say, I'm originally born and raised in NY - over 18+ years strong - no touristy-type enthusiasm here - my opinion is NY certified ;) Beer: Fully stocked bar - Brooklyn Lager, Stella, Grand Marnier, Pinot Noir, Heineken, Blue Moon, and Bloody Mary's were our drinks of choice during our stay. Be it beer, wine, or liquor the quality wasn't watered down or flat tasting. (5) Service: Top NOTCH and main reason why I am compelled to write a review. Abdou (sp?) was among the exceptional waiter(s) who helped make our stay memorable. He introduced us to his boss' and made a deliberate effort to welcome us every time we visited the Wheeltapper. Very courteous, personable, and professional. (5). Thank you to the staff at The Wheeltapper!

This pub is connected to the lobby of the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel. Its great for brunch and lunch but turns into a noisy bar scene after work making enjoying a meal impossible.

Pub food - very convenient for a nice cold beer or a juice, a great salad or a shepherd pie, a selection of dessert - all tasty and well served. Very attentive and helpful waiters and waitresses. Next to Grand Central (where the food court is actually gre4at but noisy). We wanted to meet a friend and sit down, eat a bit, have a drink and enjoy the company, and it worked out well. Drink a Guiness...

As we were staying in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel next door, we popped in to the bar expecting a bit of a touristy irish theme pub. We were very happy to find instead a buzzing pub with a fantastic choice of alcohol that is popular with the after-work crowd. The service was fast and friendly. We ate in the restaurant twice during our stay and the food was beautiful. There is also a large outside covered terrace with plenty of seating and outdoor heaters for the cooler evenings. A really nice place to unwind after a long day sightseeing.

We had a lovely time in NY and went to this bar couple of times. Just for few beers and snacks. Staff is fine, food is good and beer is tasty. Its just a bit pricey.

The atmosphere is great you could be sitting in a bar in Galway. Really busy little bar I would go back to

Right (actually to the left) attached to the Fitzpatrick Hotel (fabulous hotel) you can enjoy a fine night out with great service and food only a stone's throw from GCS!! If the weather is reasonable, the outside venue is very interesting and comes with the great waiters and Heating from above (they have a moveable cover also in case of rain or snow) not unlike fine places we've been in Europe. Gotta go- fish and chips remind me of my early seafaring years!!! Love it!

A business partner took me here during a business lunch. Front of the house looked great and I wish I had time to get a pint instead of lunch. Food was fine - nothing exceptional although the fries were really really good. I'm not a big fan of pubs for lunch but I'd go back to watch some soccer on TV.

This is a great place to unwind after work - if the weather cooperates, find a spot to sit outside and sip on a properly poured pint. Nothing fussy about this place - it's just right!

I’d heard tales of the legendary Irish Breakfast. Mind was made up the night before and I stuck to the task . Went for the poached eggs which were perfect and the bacon not too fatty . Only downfall on an otherwise great breakfast was the sausages . Nothing Irish about them , more Frankfurter. I would highly recommend this venue and reckon this is a good spot for a few pints in the evening . Wait and see .

Always fun and authentic, great location and the food just completes this Irish place attached to a hotel. Look up the history or Wheeltappers and have fun

Look it was fine, just not $45 a person for a glass of wine each and appetizers. They also don’t take contactless payments, as an FYI.

Stopped in for a drink after a meeting. Not an extensive beer selection, but good choices. Had a couple of Smithwicks in a corner booth. Really has a cozy pub feel, very neighborly. No food, so can't speak to that, but definitely worth stopping by for a pint.

This bar was attached to our hotel so a great convenient place for a drink or breakfast or an evening meal. Varied menu and drinks. Has an outside seating area too

The food we had at the Wheeltapper was really good! We had the salmon and the brisket and both were delicious!! Really cosy little bar- would go again for sure

I’ve lived next to this bar for years. Full of rude staff and subpar overpriced bar food. Its’s an Irish pub that is only in business due to the fact it’s connected to a high end hotel. There is ton’s of better options in the area. Expensive. Non attentive staff that could care less. And silent as a church. One of the worst pubs in the midtown east area in my opinion

Cant say anymore than a typical Irish bar in New York super friendly excellent. Nothing to dislike.Staff super friendly , gets very busy, but this just adds to the atmosphere.

Why would you even consider lingering inside Grand Central before your Metro North train departure when the Wheeltapper is just across the street? It's as dark and cozy in a way that welcomes rather than intimidates. As the deep space unfolds into several distinct sections - including an outdoor patio - you keep discovering new aspects of what appears to be simply a storefront pub. Quick, polite service, reasonable prices and very competent pub food make for a winning combination!

This is a nice Irish bar and the pint of Guinness isn't bad. A bit more practise needed on changing the kegs as there was none available for a day! But still worth a visit and the food is good and the staff and great.

Small cosy little pub that serves great food..was a little expensive but good spot to grab a quick bite to eat and a drink!!Located right beside fitzpatricks grand central and 1-2 minute walk from grand central station!!

We were staying next door and my dad somehow got 2 free drink vouchers, and gave them to us. We walked in at 9:00 on a Thursday night and it was busy. I found a table in the corner and we waited quite a while until I flagged a server for drink menus. Then, 15 minutes later I flagged another guy to order drinks, and he did not look pleased we had vouchers. I got the Barefoot Beachcomber, made of sparkling wine, coconut vodka and pineapple juice, $14. Stephen had a Guinness on draft, $8. Service to get the drink was slooooooow, and we never found anyone to cash us out. Assuming it's 100% free, I left $3 tip and walked out. I'm being generous with 3 stars, considering we had to do all the work, aside from pouring the drinks ourselves.

This place looks (and feels) beat-up - which is normal for authentic Irish pubs, but then, where's a selection of beer resembling that of Irish pubs? It's just not there, the beer card is lousy, I wonder who put it together: your run-of-the-mill American brews plus Guiness. The food menu is mediocre, and do is the food itself and its presentation. On the positive side, the service was quick, no issues there. I wouldn't go back there even for an after-office drink (what to drink?).

Staying in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel, and on it's ground floor, it was natural to wander in here every morning for breakfast. A full menu was available with the usual Irish staples (the Full Irish, porridge etc, black pudding if that's your thing!), a huge fruit bowl with yoghurt was my favourite, plus plenty for local tastes as well. The lunch/evening menus were varied and tasty, we never made a bad choice. Service was prompt and efficient, with many staff being Irish, making the place seem a home from home. However, one could not forget that this was the centre of New York, so prices reflected this fact. A couple of drinks, say a glass of white wine, and a pint ( the US version is a lot smaller than the Irish one), was $18, add a tip, and every round becomes $20, ouch! However, I did see Guinness being served in proper pint glasses, but nothing else was. To sum up, I would recommend this fine pub/restaurant as friendly and welcoming, with a fine selection of food and drink, surely a spot not to be overlooked on a visit to the "big apple".

We stayed at The Fitzpatrick Grand during the holidays and we and our friends had drinks here and a late night snack on the way back to our rooms. We found all of the staff to be friendly and fun and the food (burgers, steak sandwich) and drinks to be good. Food was simple and filling and was just what we wanted at the end of a long day of site seeing, shopping and drinking. I would not go out of my way to come here unless I was staying at the hotel or in the area. But, we did enjoy the pub atmosphere and would return if we were in the neighborhood.

This place has a great location next to grand central. It's a small place but it has a back patio. It's a good spot to stop for happy hour

As the weather was a bit inclement for a couple of evenings we popped in here from he Fitzpatrick Grand Central next door. Very good indeed, good meals and good beers, nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. Well worth a look.

Caters for after work drinkers. Poor staff and lousy beer selection. There are far better bars in the vicinity.

When in the city, we always stop in the Wheeltapper for a drink and enjoy the great bar staff including our favorite lass, Aelish. The perfect pub and right next to Grand Central Station. We have been coming to the Wheeltapper for the past 13 years and always look forward to seeing Aelish! Have a drink at the Wheeltapper and enjoy.

Stayed at the hotel so had a meal here the first and last night and breakfast one morning. The first night (Friday) was a disaster, they had one girl serving who was rushed off her feet but then got upset when I had the temerity to give up and go to the bar and order food ! The food was okay and the Guinness was good. It's not expensive. Breakfast was much better, the food was nice and the service perfect.

Please don’t tell me Ratatouille cooked my fish and chips tonight. I know this is the heart of New York City, not Paris, right? I was happily enjoying my perfectly seasoned fries and beer-battered fish when, out of nowhere, Ratatouille himself came out to personally thank me for dining with him on this chilly evening. I had a couple of drinks, so I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but NOPE—the table across from me saw the same thing! Apparently, the Wheeltapper employs rats, and I’m calling the health department.

Comfortable dining area, Good food and many Irish Delights such as stew.Perfect for a cold winters day post shopping

It is said that you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. When I stayed at this hotel a number of years ago, I enjoyed the Irish ambiance and had one or two pleasant breakfasts. Clearly, an Irish Pub usually has skill in the beverage department. We stopped by a year and a half ago for lunch-and basically didn't have any-the kitchen appeared to implode after a very large outdoor early summer party. This Sunday, we needed an afternoon bite knowing that an early dinner and even some mid afternoon snacks were in the offing. The Wheeltapper was serving Brunch, not one of our favorite meals, but we decided to give them a try. The ambiance is still inviting. There were plenty of servers moving about, although not all that efficiently. We did place an order for French Toast, and the order appeared after 30-35 minutes. It and the coffee were quite tasty. There were other, heavier items on the Brunch menu that we might have tried under other circumstances. So, all in all, a decent place to stop-if you are not in a hurry. With all the competition in town, I'm not prepared to move the meter any further to the right.

Stayed at the FitzPatrick, no problems there, went to breakfast, sat down, first issue it's choose your own seat so noobody knows that you are there, greeted by a very busy but friendly Irish young lady, offered coffee after 10 mins, order taken afer 10 mins, no food until one hour after ordering. Absolutely no attention was offered by the staff. Was looking forward to an "Irish breakfast" what i got was runny eggs, cold, burnt to a crisp what I think was black pudding, not sure, fair bacon, 2 sausages, cold toast, no butter and a slab of freezing cold Irish bread. SOme of the food was hot the rest was cold! This place could be great but either needs a new chef or bettr management. Dissapointed. The nice lady in charge said she was sorry and quickly and it seemed rather quickly comped the breakfast.

This was honestly the worst and probably the most expensive meal we had in Manhattan. We ordered a club sandwich & nachos. Not sure if the bread was stale or very slightly toasted for the club sandwich which was filled with processed meat. The nachos had no chilli meat at all and had no flavour. The chips we clearly frozen & thankfully had a little tub of sauce which helped with the taste. Honestly please don’t waste your money. We stayed in their Hotel over 20 years ago and having had a great time & serve then we assumed we would have been of the same standard. How disappointing and would have had better meal from a fast food place for so much less. Waste of money

after a long day of shopping we where to exhausted to go back out for dinner so as we where staying in the hotel we decided to have dinner there. The food was nice and reasonable priced and the staff very friendly

First impressions are essentilal when travelling with a child who suffers with allergies and anaphylaxis . On our first morning at the hotel we went down for breakfast to an empty pub amember of staff walked past us and another guest who had joined us . Within a few minutes a woman appeared and ushered us around the corner to be seated .handed us the menu I mentioned my son had allergies and asked what the ingredients were to the pork sausage , instead of getting the packaging or asking any other member of staff for help she kept answer pork , it's just pork irish pork as of I didn't understand it was pork ! We left having no faith in his safety and reported her reply to reception and explained we would not eat there with her attitude to his allergies even if she could be bothered to answer our concerns. Where was that Irish hospitality again .....

Ended up in the pub after a meal out nearby. Very quiet (& it was Friday evening!!) - as in, it was just the three of us & one other party. Understandably, I suppose, come closing time, we were (politely) asked to drink up & be on our way. That dosn't happen back home!! That said, Guiness wasn't to bad & the lady behind the bar was very good & friendly.

This pub adjoins The Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel. We frequented it regularly as we were guests at the hotel. In the main, it's okay, however you'd be mistaken if you thought that you would get a genuine Irish welcome. On one occasion, we returned early to the hotel and popped into the pub for a drink. It was quiet and we felt that they were overstaffed. The young women on duty spent their time chatting, swearing (mother f**Ker being one of the words) a squealing about a bug, which had been stomped on and scrapped of the stompers shoe, in front of us. They seemed oblivious to our existence as paying customers. Pushing that aside, we decided to eat in there on 4th July. A number of the young women were off duty and drinking before going out (we assume). Again swearing ensued and those who were supposed to be working didn't seem interested in serving or working. We had to get our own menus, had condiments thrown onto the table. Plates were removed before we both finished eating. No tip was left and we complained to management. The best service received in the pub was in the morning for breakfast. Why? Different servers were on. They were attentive and polite and didn't swear.

We've been going to the Irish railway-themed Wheeltapper for a number of years now, using the venue for anything from a quick drink and dinner, to formal business meetings. The best features of this restaurant are the outdoor 4-season patio that is an unexpected find so close to Grand Central; and the highly attentive and friendly wait staff -- including Eileesh, Gabriella, Vinnie, Abdou and Bashir. Be warned, however, that the popularity of the 2 indoor bars and the outdoor patio often render the venue noisy and very crowded once the sun's over the yard arm!

I must say I love pubs but this was the worst one yet. We stopped in her after a day out in the city and from first glance the place looked very nice and inviting. We sat down for a few drinks before dinner at one of the tables. We were greeted right away and given menus but then were not given any attention after that. We waited 15 minutes to be asked what we would like to drink. After finding out they were out of a seasonal draft we waited another 10 minutes for our waiter to return to take our order. We each order 1 drink which are very overpriced. Disgusted with the service so far we decided to leave after one drink. We asked for the check and the waiter acknowledged us but then disappeared. After 20 minutes I had to get up and ask another waiter to cash us out. We will not be back

We came for a bite to eat after a long day travelling. It was very very busy and noisy. The food was fine. Service was quick but the waiter forgot our nachos and also brought the wrong bottle of wine. Popular with the afterwork crowd.

This pub was part of our hotel we stayed in, it had great football atmosphere, good drinks, and the breakfast was outstanding. what topped it off was that Ireland were playing - so even better atmosphere.

On a busy Monday evening the Wheeltapper offered N escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC. Just off of Lexington and in close proximity of Grand Central Station, this pub offers a good array of beers and typical pub fare. I had he Sheppard's Pie and it was the comfort food I needed.

Good pub located within Fitzpatricks Grand Central in Midtown, beer garden for the smokers, restaurant towards the front with cool booths

No problems here. A nice pub with great people. Food was good. I had the steak. $36. Beers I think are $6. Patio out back as well which is covered. A good spot to pick.

Variety of food was great and it all tasted delicious especially the mud pie!! Great atmosphere in the bar too with a real Irish feel to it!

Went here with my wife on our first night in NYC. We sat outside, although it’s so covered and comfortable it’s hard to think of it as being outside. We got drinks and sandwiches. The sandwiches were okay but the fries and chips that accompanied the sandwiches were FANTASTIC. I would go back again.

We ate and drank here as guests of the hotel, but I don't think I would have if we hadn't been. It is not particularly enticing from the street, or well advertised. The patio area at the back of the hotel is great, as they can cover it if the weather is bad, and there are heaters, so you can sit out in any weather. Service levels were OK and food was average, but at Manhattan prices. Good, but compared to other bars in Manhattan, could do better.

I have no joy in writing negative reviews; especially when the people effected seem very pleasant and earnest. Having stayed at this hotel before and having had an enjoyable breakfast, we opted to stop by on a Sunday for lunch en route to visiting a friend and after a couple hour train trip from New Haven. There was a large and "energetic" group in the outdoor patio, and the hostess, sensing our concerns, took us over to the traditional pub area. We were advised that they were only serving "brunch" and not lunch. Brunch is usually not one of our favorite meals, but we were hungry and thought we would find something on the menu that would be satisfactory. It is very strange being in an Irish pub pretty much all alone. That should have been a warning signal. A very personable waiter came over and took our order. The beverages were delivered quickly. My wife ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered Shrimp and Grits. Both preparations seemed a long way from typical Irish fare, more California style. After about 20 minutes, the waiter came back and apologized. They were all out of the Shrimp and Grits. I switched choice to the Eggs Benedict. Another ten minutes past, and no sign of our order. We were then told they were out of Eggs Benedict. Very reluctantly, we switched orders to "two Irish Breakfasts" with Irish Bacon. After a few more minutes, I put cash on the table to pay for our drinks and stood up. No sign of our order. The hostess came by and apologized. They were having "a very bad day"-at least the kitchen was. As we were discussing the situation, a different waiter came by with one order of Eggs Benedict with salmon-while we like salmon, it wasn't something that either of us ordered. And there was only one serving. The serving staff is very pleasant. The kitchen let them and us down. They were overwhelmed by this large group of perhaps 30-40 people. I assume these folks didn't show up unannounced. I always try to be positive, and have never before given a review below "average", which to me is a level of experience we all want to avoid. I know they are capable of doing better. There are hundreds of places we could have gone for lunch-well quite a few less on a Sunday in the city-but they left us hungry and upset. They are in the hospitality business, and we expected considerably better. This is the first review I've written where I couldn't comment on the food-since there was none.

attached to the Fitzpatrick hotel. So you can get breakfast /brunch/ dinner drinks,, great location/great back yard court

Since this restaurant is attached to the hotel I stayed in for three nights (Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel) we decided to eat here for a quick bite prior to attending the theater. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We each had a drink and shared the Irish Mac & Cheese. If the weather allows sit outside on the patio. It's situated in the alley between two buildings but at dusk with the lights twinkling and the space heaters on it's a cozy environment. I ate there on a Monday evening when the other patrons consisted mostly of business travelers. The restaurant may be louder on the weekends.

This restaurant is within a small hotel near Grand Central Station. It is primarily Irish style food and has a year-round covered patio/bar. I came here for breakfast and ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was very large and the patty that came with it was an Irish style sausage patty. It came with breakfast potatoes. For anyone staying in the hotel, this is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat.

Good pub food, Irish fare and cold beer. Great place to gather with friends for a pint and conversation.

I ignored the negative review prior to departing for our dinner. We spoke with the “Director” mid day and struck a deal on table, specific sports event on TV. So we were comfortable and looked forward to our experience. What transpired when we arrived was all that we read in the negative reviews… detached service. Nobody on the floor cared that we were there. Beer was warm and one skunky. The table that was promised was occupied by a bunch of regulars and we knew that would never come available. I’m a huge fan of Irish Pubs and consider myself a connoisseur. This one… not good!!!

Just wanted to write a review as we had such wonderful service from Bilal , who was the nicest, most friendly and professional barman. Thanks for looking after us so well Bilal. We really enjoyed our drinks.

We were walking back from our trip around the city and called in by chance. The meal we had was lovely. It was in an ideal place so called there later in the week. Service great and good value

We dived into here when it started to snow on our trip in New York. Lovely cosy booths and fireplace welcomed us, as well as friendly staff. Lovely pint and we were on our way again.

Good Spot for a pint and some pub fare in midtown. Their burgers are good and always have a great meal at the tapper.

Lovely ambiance a good place to get together with colleagues. They have open area too . Food was good and service was great.

Went to meet a few friends fro a Friday night happy hour and stumbled across Wheeltapper. It had a great pub feel and found a table quickly. The food was good but a bit high but made up for in the taste.

I read the bad reviews on this restaurant and strongly disagree with the reviews, we had dinner and breakfast in here and it was delicious, staff so friendly and great fast service.

Stayed in the adjacent hotel (Fitzpatrick Grand Central) and had one or two drinks in the bar. Perfect pint of Guiness.

So, it was a little difficult to make a gluten-free and light meal. So, what I did was ask them to replace the creamy mashed potatoes that was served with the salmon with the sauteed vegetables. They willingly obliged and I was very satisfied with my choice.

it was an awesome time and experience couldn't have been happier with the hotel and this restaurant/bar.

A fun enjoyable place to enjoy family and friends. Warm atmosphere and good seating. Could use some larger TV’s for sports.

Really enjoyed our visit here! Steak- very generous portion- prepared perfectly. Fish, salads, dessert - excellent. The outside decor & heaters/ lights were a very nice touch- a perfect night out with great good. Service was great too!

Mrs B and I stayed at the Fitzpatrick which is the adjoining hotel. We sat out in the covered but open air garden (with patio heaters turned up to the max - it was March!) watching football. Nicely laid out inside, designed on an old railway carriage. No free wifi unlike most of it's competitors. We didn't eat here, just had some drinks, however unlike the hotel staff next door in which we stayed (see my review of the Fitzpatrick), the barman was surly and made a cheeky comment about us to the waitress, which I heard. He didn't but the waitress did get a tip. His tip.....don't look down on your customers!

staff are a bit snotty and not the friendliest especially the female bartender in the outdoor bar, bar menu, portions just average and expensive enough for drinks, gets a lot of the after work crowd

I ate here for 5 days while on holiday as the restaurant is right next door to the hotel fitzpatrick's where I stayed. The food is ordinary food but everything tastes very good, I wasn't disappointed with any meal. The portions are big so you get value for your money and the service is excellent as you won't be waiting long for your meal. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting New York.

This is a great bar with a lovely patio area. They serve meals including full Irish breakfast which many people have outside in the patio area., especially when the weather is great. They also have fans which keep the patio area cool on hot nights The bar has a good selection of cocktails .

service was ok and atmosphere is very contrived. venture away from the hotel to get something better.

I've been here many times. It's usually for drinks, quick bar...but I've also been here for breakfast and that was really good. It's close to Grand Central, but it has a lot of character inside.

As in the title a nice friendly pub and restaurant, stafff were friendly and polite, the only reason I did not give this a 5 star rating was although what food was on offer was nice there was not enough choice for my liking, please don’t let this put you of this is just my opinion and I have to admit I am a fussy eater.

awful service. we only went once with free vouchers from the hotel we stayed at. wouldn't go again, considering this was our first restaurant visit as visitors to the city it didn't leave a good impression. we left still with two free vouchers which we didn't want to use. there are many other fab places in the city to try. this is not one of them. it seemed as if the staff could not be bothered. we had to tip regardless of service. food wasn't the best either. we ordered two burgers. couldn't finish mine.

Staying in the hotel, when we go b&b we always enjoy the breakfast here. There's a good choice of full irish, continental or porridge. Restaurant is decent too, good for burgers and sandwiches. Bar is lovely in the evenings, seems popular with the after work crowd.

Popped in for a drink on our first night in New York and had the worst customer service ever from a waitress with pink hair ... her attitude towards us was unbelievable and how she ever got a job as a waitress I find hard to understand... and I think she expected a tip !!! We left our flat beers on the table and hoped this wasn’t a typical New York welcome ...

We had a few beers here during our stay in the hotel. Very busy on the Friday night, but seemed to empty fast. It was fine on the other nights though. There's a barman, I think his name is "Octo", who is second to none, great great service, a credit to the pub.

So, here we are vacationing in New York stoping by the Wheeltapper for dinner in a Irish "pub" atmosphere. Two things I'd like to point out is; 1. You're not in Ireland 2. This is New York City, Manhattan. So if you want an authentic Irish pub then go to Ireland. What the Wheeltapper does offer is great food in a bar scene with a railway theme. My wife had the Reuben and I had the Fish & Chips. Chased with a Guinness and a Lager. Everything made to order and piping hot. Eilish was a great host and had great recommendations. Be advised it's Manhattan with prices accordingly, but still worth a look for a great meal.

Within a few yards of Grand Central Station, this railway themed bar is an unexpected delight. On entering, there’s a small bar, with a few tables, and a lovely intimate atmosphere. There’s a very friendly welcome and prices are reasonable, especially in happy hour. Where this venue comes into its own though is when you walk through to the back of the bar, where there’s another small bar area and then outside into the space between the buildings which has been turned into a delightful outside space, with another bar and table service, which was also friendly, quick and efficient.

Bar and restaurant attached to Fitzpatrick's Hotel near Grand Central on 44th street. Nice pub atmosphere that appears to be partially outdoors, almost like a covered alleyway, using gas space heaters the day I was there. Friendly service and the burgers were quite good. Fries, however, were extremely salty, so watch out for that.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Great to sit in the patio area with a cup of coffee. Can get busy early evening!

Breakfasts were good. Got very crowded some evenings but there was a hurricane on so difficult to go out! Everyone still got served though!

Prompt and efficient service.reasonably priced good portion size. Basic comfort on seats but adequate.nice atmosphere.menu could have more choices

there are plenty of tables. sofas.outside. tv. 2 bars. outdoor hostess. there are also heaters outdoors. smoking allowed outside. very nice !!

I have known wheeltapper for years and it is definitely one of my favorites. Food is excellent, service is great ..everyone that works here is friendly and caring. I don't understand the bad reviews, everyone has their expectations, mine is good food good drink good company and friendly stuff. What more do I need . No place you go is perfect but for me wheeltapper is as good as it gets..from Chris, Bilal the bartenders to the waiters and waitresses have been exceptional!. Thank you !!

We ate breakfast here for the five days we were staying in New York, friendly staff, breakfast was very tasty, plenty to choose from, we also had dinner one night. Thank you

I chose this venue as it was close to my hotel. It was snowing out and I didn't want to venture far. Jet lagged and tired I needed a quick eat and cheeky little beer before bed. The service was prompt and staff were efficient and friendly. The food was hot and delivered quickly. I'd definately dine here again.

We enjoyed drinks in this Irish bar in our hotel - the Fitzpatrick Grand Central. We also had lunch and a late dinner one evening - good pub food. Lovely patio area too.

I wanted to order some food as takeaway. The waiter suddenly left in the middle of my order to do something else. After it had gone several minutes I asked other waiters, they said that the man will take my order. He came back after about 10 minutes and asked «did you make you order?» "What?" I asked, not understanding why he was asking this, as he was supposed to take the order. «DID. YOU. MAKE. THE. ORDER?», he repeated as if he was talking to a child. «No, because you left in the middle», I answered. «Ok, so lets make it now», he said. No apologizing. I had to wait another 20 mintes for the food. Highly unprofessional. Other servants seemed nice and collaborative, so perhaps I was unlucky to end up "collaborating" with a less sharp one. The food was ok, but not in relation to the value.

We stayed in the Fitzpatrick grand central hotel next door so used this every day. The staff were so friendly and the food was good. We will certainly be going back there

Great food, great atmosphere, lovely bar. Really good for meeting people & having a quiet drink & a snack or meal. Highly recommended

It was great to end each long day of city sightseeing with a stop at The Wheeltapper before heading to our room at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central. Service was great. Angelica was an awesome and friendly bartender (as were the rest, but we didn't get a chance to ask each his/her names). Irish Potato skins were a very yummy treat and we actually stopped in for a final helping before heading back to Wisconsin. The atmosphere is fun and there was lots of chatting going on each night. We enjoyed getting to know a few of the other patrons who were visiting from Ireland and staying at the Fitzpatrick as well. It really added a great liveliness to our travels.

Myself, sister, Mam and aunt ate her last week during our week stay in NY. We had heard good things about the Wheeltapper so we were looking forward to it. My mam and aunt arrived before us and where hungry so ordered theirs, we arrived a while later and ordered ours. We then ordered some drinks the waitress was lovely. My Turkey burger and my sisters fish&chips came out first, my aunt had ordered steak so we thought that's why ours came first. My Turkey burger was pink and cold in the middle so needless to say I sent it back and said i'd have fish and chips. No apology from the staff. My aunts steak came out covered in sauce she ordered no sauce and the waitress had said when she ordered it she said sauce on the side either way the steak should not have been covered in sauce and the waitress was rude about taking it back. My mams chicken pot pie was not nice either. My fish and chips came out and still no apology about the RAW turkey burger. At this stage we were really annoyed and finished our drinks and asked for the bill. When it arrived i was charged for the fish and chips which i think was not much in the price between it and the burger I really think I should have gotten my meal free. My aunts steak was $50 and was so not worth that. In the end we paid the bill and then asked for the manager. When he came out I explained what happened and felt something should have been taken off the bill he said follow me and I will sort something. We went to the cash register with him and he took money from the till and handed it to me and then mumbled something at me. We took the money and left, we coulnd't wait to get out of there. Next he comes running up the street screaming at us we stopped to see what was wrong he starts screaming you never paid you took all the money back. So i still had the money in my hand he had handed back to me so i looked at it and there over $200 dollars in my hand. It turns out he had handed me back all the money and said take 2 bottles of Corona off the bill. How the hell did i know how much the 2 beers were and why didn't he just give me the money for the 2 beers instead of the whole lot. I just gave him the money back and told him I wanted nothing off him and that I would let people know how he treated us and walked away. So out of all the restaurants we visted over our week this was by far the worst. Avoid here and if you want a friendly Irish bar with food cooked properly visit Muldoons around the corner.

I recently came to the Wheeltapper Pub for the first time for a happy hour event after work. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space inside the restaurant! Once you walk into the front door, it goes all the way back and around to fit two bars and an entire back patio that is well-lit and spacious. There are servers and staff everywhere you look so there is always someone around to help. The waitress helping my party was named Ashley. She could not have been more attentive, fun, and efficient. My team and I greatly enjoyed the food and beverage that was served, and I'm already looking forward to returning.

15 of us met at the Wheeltapper for a drink and a burger. They seemed a little overwhelmed at first but we had patience and soon they took our drink and food order. We all ordered a burger. As she took the menus from us, she asked each one if we would like fries with it. We all said yes, figuring it was the traditional side, and we didn't need a substitute. My friend did ask if she could substitute a salad. The waitress said yes. So imagine our shock when we got the bill and fries were $5.50 and a small bowl of salad was $13.50! $77.00 worth of fries!! They were in tiny metal cups, ridiculous! It's NYC folks. Pay attention to everything. It's expensive and criminal. Yes, the burgers were delicious.

I met friends here for an early dinner on my most recent visit to NYC. I was pleasantly surprised to find lighter fare on the menu in addition to traditional Irish pub favorites. I enjoy a fresh, crisp salad of spring veggies while my friends opted for burgers. There is Guinness on tap, but there are other choices to satisfy non beer drinkers. Friendly, efficient service.

Great spot on 44th East. We needed a late night snack and this was next door to our hotel. We had sliders (which were very good) and wings. The wings were seasoned with a dry rub and cooked perfectly. Service was great as well.

Staff good. Good pint of guiness and fantastic burger. One of the best meals of the weeks holiday. If I was local it would be my local.

Restaurant is on the smaller side but they do have a nice big patio to sit out on and enjoy a few drinks and some food. Some of the items were a bit pricey but the staff was great. Abdou our server was great and Steven the manager was very helpful and funny which made our experience that much better. Definitely will be back !

We stayed at the Fitzpatrick and this was a gem to have right in our hotel. Food was excellent. Service was very good. Beverages excellent!

We stayed in the Fitzpatrick Grand Central which is attached to the Wheeltapper so visited a couple of times. The atmosphere is cozy and deinitely does have that traditional british/irish pub feel to it. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is good and on a warm Christmas Day we made best use of the Beer Garden which is a really nice place to relax and feels like a millon miles away from the busy New York Streets outside.

Stayed at the Fitzpatrick for business terribly rainy so decided to eat in pub. Three meals all had issues.. brunch Sunday eggs Benedict hard poached eggs.. dinner soup came with dinner by the time you ate soup dinner was cold.. breakfast next morning soft boiled eggs in tin? Eggs hard boiled toast cold.. maybe just bad timing but probably won’t eat there again .

I like this bar as it has a great character, however be aware it is not cheap! It has an outside area that is great in summer. In the winter when it's busy it is extremely loud because there's no soft furnishings. I'd say, go and have a drink but move on after a couple.

On a cold night the staff and atmosphere were welcoming and comfort food was perfect. No one rushed us. Great night. We will be back.

Comfortable, great food, fine service and reasonable prices. Good value and very convenient. Great quality.

Quite a few years since we have been back to Fitzpatrick’s given the pandemic etc and while I understand that we are all living in an inflationary environment, I think $25 for a basic Irish breakfast is nothing short of excessive … family of 4 for basic breakfast for over $135 is questionable to put it mildly !!! 20% tip automatically included and then your bill leaves a space for an additional tip. The service / experience does not merit that …

Went here just for drinks on a recommendation. Very nice place and very unique overall. I can't wait to check it in the better weather, when it is not so cold and can hang out on the outdoor patio. Definitely a must stop for any NYC bar hopping, hanging out type of visit.

And you can get proper English Breakfast Tea here too! Not a lot of vegetarian options but you wouldnt starve - interesting rail related decor - made me want to visit the sister hotel in Eire!

Stayed in the hotel next door. Ordered two whiskeys and soda and was charged $44!! I could buy litres of whiskey for that price! Had some food on the last day before leaving for the airport. It was pretty good and similar prices to the rest of new york. Some of the seats in the booths are a bit knackered and need replacing.

Food is amazing. We stayed at the hotel and ate everyday having breakfast every morning and an evening meal every night. We had the burgers, fish & chips, curry, pizza, irish breakfast, american breakfast and all were extremely tasty we cannot fault. The staff and service is faultless nothing was too much for them. Very busy in the week

I was staying in the adjoining Grand Fitzpatrick Hotel. I went for the traditional Irish breakfast which was well cooked with very little grease. The outside patio was a godsend for a smoker on a cold winters evening. The patio heaters are amazing and very cozy seating set in a nice atmosphere. Was so nice to be able to sit in a t shirt and enjoy a cigarette with my drink. Staff all very friendly and would recommend this place when visiting New York and wishing to escape the tourist traps and crowded bars found elsewhere.

One of the best Irish Pubs in NY. Great location. Great staff. Good food. real buzz here and Smithwicks. Yippee

This pub has a lovely back patio that is open to the sky on nice sunny day and has covers and heaters for less nice days. Very nice stop if you are near Grand Central.

Irish Breakfast is lovely the toast alone is enough for most people for breakfast,Drinks a little on the expensive side though

On our first evening in New York we decide to stay in our hotel - Fitzpatrick Grand Central. A good decision. The food was good, was served without delay and with a smile

We were tired, hungry and trying to squeeze a meal in before a show. This was recommended to us by an employee at Grand Central Station. The food was delicious and the tea was the best I’ve had in the states. I ordered the fish and chips, the best I have ever had! The atmosphere was warm and relaxing. It was great. If I lived near to it, I would go at least once a week. The only misstep was the server was a little inattentive and we overheard him say he didn’t know this was his table. Maybe it was during the shift-change?

The server overcharged is on the order by tripling the price and manager did not help; they provided no evidence and forced us to pay.

Nice pub, good ambiance, good level guests. Several beers on tap, good IPAs, good place to have a beer and a conversation.

This lovely bat is attached to the hotel we stayed in - could not fault it for quality, choice and value for money.

We opted for the Wheeltapper Pub for Christmas dinner. It was rather disappointing. The soup starter was good but the main dishes were just average. The staff were friendly but very unprofessional and had little or no knowledge of the menu. Two members of staff had a disagreement which was by no means discreet. We were disappointed and expected more from a Fitzpatrick hotel.

An Irish bar near grand central station that has friendly staff and good service, had burger and beer here and really enjoyed it. Themed in the style of a railway carriage its gives it character with cosy little booths, even though it was busy you felt comfortable with your own space.

The Fitzpatrick Hotel offered breakfast vouchers to guests and I was so pleased with the experience. We were greeted by a lovely Irish server who brought fresh coffee and orange juice. The breakfast platter included fresh fruit, cold meats and cheeses, toast, and several pastries. The decor is charming and we thoroughly enjoyed the start to our day in the city.
Good Menu and service
A traditional Irish "Pub" leads into an open air area at the back which is nice for al fresco drinks. The menu is varied and good and mid-priced. Service is friendly and efficient.
