Great Italian food and served fast

By Annette R |

Friendly service, authentic Italian food. Prices cheaper then I thought they would be for San Francisco. Meal comes with free awesome bread and oils. Nice atmosphere

Good Italian food.

By PhillipP |

A recommendation from a fellow cable car passenger, we enjoyed a predominantly pasta based dinner at Ti Piacera. The food was very good and staff attentive. The restaurant has a nice setting but it does get loud, making it difficult to have conversations with people at your table. There were some gluten free options as well as a wide range of options suitable for vegetarians. A good all-rounder.

Great pasta but...

By 515Kat |

Stopped in last Sunday...I ordered the clam linguini which was quite tasty; my boyfriend ordered a breakfast scramble...the scramble was OK but the side dish of potatoes appeared to have been cooked much earlier & left on some kind of warmer. They were dry & cold. The waiter was a bit flustered by that & apologized but there were no freshly cooked potatoes to offer. LOL. Maybe best to stick to the pasta dishes. The Cosmo was excellent. Nice ambiance; good, but slightly slow service.

Great Happy Hour

By Glennalan4458 |

Surprising as it is, we usually have problems finding a happy hour place in SF with good, inexpensive wines. We were staying a few blocks from Ti Piacera and kept passing it and looking at the menu, and finally went in. We were very glad we did. The prices are great, $5 house wines, and $2 off appetizers. Lots of good choices for the bar bites, The staff was friendly and we ended up going to happy hour four times during the week. We did eat dinner here one night, and thought the food was good, but we enjoyed the happy hours here a lot more.

Very nice for Sunday brunch

By stemar97 |

I dined here with my family of 4 for our first meal in San Francisco. We had just arrived after a long early morning flight and were very hungry. This restaurant is in a very eclectic area near the California street cable car line and it was easy to find. The decor is pleasant with a bit of south western flair. It was still Sunday brunch time and I ordered the bottomless mimosa, very good deal. Our drinks were served quickly but Unfortunately we waited very long for our food to come out. Our waiter was nice and kept apologizing for the delay but I wish some bread or crackers would have been offered while we waited. When our food finally came out it was tasty and very fresh. My florentine eggs Benedict ($12)were cooked just right and the vegetables were still crisp. Portions were ok although a few more home fries would be nice. My family also enjoyed their meals so if there is time I would come back to the restaurant.

Fun Italian on Polk

By Zoom_Gotti |

Smaller italian restaurant with lively happy hour crowd. Nice range of Italian dishes, wines, beers, etc. Daily specials. Good desserts. Bread sticks and garlic oil for starters. I had a nice pork cutlet dish. Grated cheese for the soups and salads. Don't have to dress fancy. Take the California cable car to Polk.

over priced and noisy place!

By tony d |

the deep fried calamari was over deep dried, my friend's veal piccata was tough, the ambience was wonderful if you don't care about what you are eating! It was crowded and noisy! we pretty much had to shout to each other to have some conversations.

Pasta and Cosmo heaven!!

By BrianT1970 |

Lovely place great ambiance, tentive staff wonderful food and cosmos to die for.... Super place for drinks, lunch and dinner. We did 2 out of the three, very relaxed. Will go back again and again...

Gone Downhill

By chanyu1 |

Have not been to this restaurant for a couple of years and went there to entertain some guests from Hong Kong because it was good a couple of years ago. What happen? The food is not as good as before. We ordered my favorite pizza, the Margherita, and it came out blah as compared to before. I even told my friends that this was my favorite pizza place because they made a thin crust Margherita pizza that was the best. The pizza we got was bland and somewhat dry at the top and the crust was not thin and crusty but rather thicker and doughy. We also ordered the salad which they charged almost $15, and the portion was so small that an average person would need double portion to even touch getting filled. We also order the seafood pasta which came out decent. The only thing that truly remained the same as a couple of years ago was their chopped olive oil for bread. That is still one of the best dips for bread and you can really get full just eating this. But unfortunately, their overall food quality has definitely taken a dip from a couple of years ago. Hoping for improvement the next time I go back...

MUST HAVE THE EGGPLANT PARMESEAN!!!

By Lisa |

We were just stumbling through the town... came across Ti Piacera and decided to see what they had in store for us! We seated ourselves at the bar due to them having an entirely full house! We had our dinner served at the bar. Four glasses of wine, Riesling and Chardonnay. He loved his Chardonnay's while I delightfully enjoyed my Riesling's. Their garlic bread dip was SO tasty! We shared their Ti Piacera salad... I'm sorry but the salad was so yucky... it was horribly bitter!!! So we took their bread dip (well the garlic of it) and scattered it throughout our salad and then it became... well... Okay to eat. We also shared their Eggplant Parmesean. This was the best I've ever had!!! The Eggplant was evenly battered and perfectly and doused with sauce!!! The melted parmesean complimented the eggplant excrutiatingly well! Imagine your entire mouth savouring this full hearty dish!!! IMMENSLY DELICIOUS! The only downfall were two cross dressers (forgive me for categorizing) that came in... and no one serviced them. So we moved our chairs over (at the bar) and gave them space to enjoy their drinks as well.

Average experience, not worth the price

By Tara A |

We went here one night during our trip to San Francisco, mainly because our hotel was just around the corner. The hotel recommended it and the menu looked decent. However, the experience was just okay. Out of the three of us, one of us thought our food was pretty good, the other two said it was okay but not great - definitely not worth the price. The service was not very good. We were made to feel like we were a nuisance, despite actually being a very easy and agreeable group. Overall, I don't think I would go back. Many much better options in the same price range around San Francisco.

No oysters

By chris m |

They sold out of the blue point oysters which was the only reason we went there. We got the Calamari Fritti- Paprika seasoned fried calamari served with caper- mustard-dill aoili or spicy marinara and the Cozze e Vongole- Oven roasted musseles and clams in garlic, thyme, white wine, lemon- butter There were at least 5 mussels that were just shells with no meat. Our waiter sucked! He was too busy at the bar socializing to notice we were out of water and was not very receptive to us at all. The atmosphere was pleasant and the music was nice. The Tiramisu was fantastic.

Booked by mistake. So glad we did!

By illequis |

I booked online, but I must have gapped when I selected the type of restaurant. My mistake, but what a happy mistake. We were seated immediately, drinks were offered, and when I realized I had booked incorrectly, the waiter was very amusing. Basically he said, 'you're here now, and I can have a glass of wine in front of you in less than 3 minutes' Sold. Great selection of food. Very lively atmosphere, The restaurant has the feel of a local hang out, but even with that, we were made to feel like regulars. Food was great, a selection of pastas and seafood was thoroughly enjoyed by our party. If you're looking for a great selection of food and drink, with a lively atmosphere, you will not go wrong here.

Great Italian

By Elaine W |

Wanted restaurant close to hotel on Van Ness Avenue for our last night in San Francisco. This place looked inviting to weary tourists and did not disappoint. Good menu with enough choice to satisfy all party including teenagers. Food is tasty and reasonably priced and whilst not gourmet a really enjoyable evening thanks to great ambiance with friendly, attentive and cheery staff

Dinner date

By mrschondel |

We need some place where we could walk to from the Masonic Theater where we parked and left our daughter and her friends at a concert. Ti Piacera was perfect. We loved everything that we had especially the pork chop. It was so moist and full of flavor. My husband ate his own meal and then finished off mine. The servers were very attentive and helpful in our making just the right choices. We would definitely go here again.

Delicious Italian in Inviting Space

By LisaB |

Ti Piacera hosted my Mom's 75th Birthday dinner and it was an amazing experience, great food, wine, and service. Working with Apo on the menu was seamless and fun! We were a group of 14 people mostly coming in to San Francisco from out of town. We sat in the front area of the restaurant which is warm and welcoming. From the shared apps to the birthday candles on the cake we brought into the restaurant, every detail was covered and made our experience smooth. Everyone noted how delicious their meals were. Really perfect!

A little gem on Polk

By LandingLuaus |

This restaurant was recommended by the Holiday Inn on their pre-printed restaurant suggestions. I was somewhat hesitant, but the concierge was insistent that this was one of her favorite restaurants. Very pleasant surprise. Interior was quaint, cozy. Staff was helpful and attentive. Food was yummy and generous. I ordered the Linguine Ala Vongole at the recommendation of our waiter, and it was perfect. Of all the restaurants we visited during our week long visit, this would rank in the top 5 for food and bang for the buck. Will definitely visit again!!

Best gnocchi - ever!

By G V |

We stumbled in here just for the cozy look of the place one chilly night. Looking at the menu I asked the waiter if he would recommend the ravioli or the gnocchi. He said, "You will have the gnocchi" - and boy was that a good choice: these were the best gnocchi I ever had, just so light and tender and creamy - delicious!

Nowhere near authentic nor good.

By carlobrayda |

The place is fairly quiet and therefore good for business meetings. The food is nowhere near authentic. Ingredients are poor quality. They substitute extra virgin olive oil with low grade vegetable or seed oils. The food comes across as "tired". At the end of the day it's very overpriced for a pretty empty experience. Definitely would not recommend it. The management needs to take heed if they wish to earn customer respect and return visits.

Excellent

By Tierandy |

Just stopped for margherita pizza n drinks... Phenomenal. Definitely get the coffee Tia Maria drink. Add the Burratta cheese to it. Will go back for full meal n bruschetta.

Pleasant Italian Restaurant

By wcs222 |

This restaurant was near the hotel we were staying in San Francisco, so we tried it for dinner. It is 1/2 restaurant and 1/2 bar. Having visited Italy previously, the menu and ambience looked quite authentic. We had bruschetta and carpacio as 2 appetizers, which were small portions for the price ... the carpacio was not very authentic. Our pasta plates and veal parmigiana entree were tasty and of good portions. Servvce was pleasant.

A Delightful Dinner with my family in San Francisco!

By dellis0812 |

I wanted to give a shout out to Ti Piacera! The food, portions, the ambience, the wine , and the service were all TOP RATE! They treated our family like family and we will DEFINITELY be back!!!

Friendly and efficient staff, good food, and reasonable!

By diane_chehab |

We went as a large group, and each person ordered their own food. The drawback was that we couldn't have separate checks, and had to figure out what each person owed. However, the food was very good, and reasonable by San Francisco standards. Service was great, and happy hour drinks were inexpensive (until 7 pm).

Enjoyable ... You bet ...

By Don S |

Great meal, very enjoyable. Arrived at 4:00pm, Happy hour, very relaxing atmosphere. Appies very nice, dinner great, house wine just right with meal. Did I mention dessert ... Terrific ... Off the beaten path where the locals eat. Don't miss it ....

Trip to SF Highlight!

By Beverly H |

What happens when you phone a restaurant at 5:30, requesting a reservation at 7:00 for 15? If that restaurant is Ti Piacera, expect magic! Our friendly and skilled waiter accommodated requests for separate checks (8 of them), special orders for fussy young teens and tweens, and made helpful recommendations. I had a filet of sole prepared with sun dried tomatoes, artichokes and lemon, that I would happily fly back from the east coast to enjoy again. Even my non-fish eating, 13 year old grandson (who loved his individual pizza) thought my dish was delicious! Everyone claimed theirs was the best meal of the week. The atmosphere is old world-ish charming, with just enough noise to feel relaxed and welcoming. I highly recommend!

Surprising Find

By Wiskid |

This little restaurant on Polk Street was, at first glance, a hole-in-the-wall kind of pizza place that was surprisingly bustling after 9PM on a Monday night. The menu promised more and as we were tired travelers, we took a chance with a booth. A carafe of red italian table wine, warm bread, salads, good veal parm and sides of pasta with a heavenly homemade meat sauce abd candlelight... for less than $40 for two people! If you're looking for a gourmet experience this may not be it, but for good food at a good price, look no further. It's no wonder they've been in business since the 1950's!

Swan Bay Oyster- NOT!

By billyart |

Here's the deal. We had yummy intentions of hitting Swan Oyster Bar now so famously pimped by Tony B -that's Bourdain for those who may not know him. Walking north on the west side of Polk we passed Ti Piacera an Italian eatery. Looked in the window and saw a few patrons whaling on a couple plates of pasta. We looked up and saw the ginormous line in front of Swan Bay Oyster and immediately felt the disappointment rush through our veins. However, not all is lost in this experience. We decided to have lunch at Ti...and were flat out wowed!! The bread and balsamic dip was fresh and tasty with just the right amount of oil for dipping. The cappelini pasta and basil pizza we shared was flat out of this world! This story is not over yet. After an incredible lunch - by 200 the line had died down and we still were able to put our oyster bag on at Swan's. A wonderful 1-2 punch!!

Great fresh Italian

One off the best meals in the usa for us. It was realy the tast of italy in an nice formel setting. Great service, but that is what we have seen everywhere in the us

Very Good Italian Restaurant

By sileb2018 |

Ate lunch at this restaurant. The service was good and friendly. The food was really delicious and I will definitely eat here again. I had Chicken Marsala which was one of the best I have eaten at a restaurant The restaurant is simple and not pretentious.

Excellent Food

By KatieNM |

We dined here on a Friday night. It was getting crowded, but we got in. Happy hour was still going on (ends at 7 pm). I had the chardonnay for half price ($3.50) and it was good. The highlight was definitely the food! The ravioli with pesto creme sauce was outstanding. My boyfriend had the chicken risotto and he said it was great. I'd recommend this place for sure.

Great Food... service can be a little patchy... slow

By Lcc009 |

We visited here on three occassions. Each time the food was great... probably the best we had in SF. The first evening the service was great.. there was one waiter who was clearly very experienced. THe other two occassion the service was not so great. When telling the owner this he was very responsive and got to work. He is a great guy who wants to run a good restaurant, he spends time with the customers and has a great work ethic! I would defo recommend this place for couple or families. Good food, reasonably priced and great owner!! Go try it!

Worth the Visit

By Eira T |

Great restaurant, I had the beef carpaccio and the ravioli. Both were excellent. Nice atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.

The Neighborhood O-Garden

By Andrew H |

Ti Piacera has been around for quite some time and established itself as one of the anchor neighborhood spots in the upper Polk. You’ll get a loving greeting but only if you live nearby and visited often; which is not unusual for Italian restaurants. Still, you’ll get pretty good service though it may seem a bit perfunctory and rushed. Being a neighborhood restaurant means it can get a bit rowdy and noisy beyond belief (as many have noted). There are two seating areas. The smaller one in the front is more intimate, the larger back room is not particularly appealing. Forget the bar area, it’s way loud and rambunctious – then again it may be your thing. Food here is generic, it’s not bad but it’s barely above Olive Garden standards. Fortunately, prices are about the same between the two relative to the Bay area. What you don’t get is unlimited bread sticks – you need to pay 5 USD for house-made bread with very good roasted garlic dipping (as noted in other reviews). Unfortunately, the bread is much less interesting than the dipping. I would forgo the pizza as it seems to come out rather bleached – not good by Italian standards. Anything else is just fine even if uninspiring. The wine list is mediocre but the glass pours are generous. Something you would expect in a local-only spot. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go to Ti Piacera but if you happen to be nearby it’s a reasonably good choice.

Great dinner first night

By ltushla |

Selected Ti Piacera in part because it was close to our hotel. Great dinner. Good service, reasonable prices.

A fantastic find!

By Zac M |

We happened to be walking down Polk St and took a punt on this restaurant - what a good thing we did! The restaurant is also very easy to reach down the California St cable car line. Very smart and welcoming inside with a highly professional staff. Service throughout was excellent - prompt and diligent without being obtrusive. The calamari was some of the best we've had in the US. Both mains were excellent and full of flavour and it was refreshing to see restrained (although still ample) portions. Desert was also great. All in all a wonderful experience and definitely one to look out for in San Francisco!

Terrible New Years dinner

By hammahlee94 |

Appalled by our meal here. We are neighbors and decided to make this our NYE spot. First, they stuck my date and I into a corner with a very tight squeeze and the draft from the door. After we asked to move, they brought us our meal. My steak was absolutely inedible. I could not chew threw the tendon in the middle of this $27 steak. I sent it back as when it came out (without a steak knife) the steak was cold. At this point, my date had already finished his meal before I had even begun. So I gave up thinking they would at least apologize and comp the meal, but no. Finally they just gave up and ignored us entirely, even though we tried to be polite despite the unfortunate events. Wont be returning.

Disappointing dinner

By Susan V |

Very disappointing. We were made to feel a nuisance when ordering. The waiter was friendly one moment then the next, he went cold. We didn't really know what we did wrong. Even the owner was awkward with us when we asked about the bill. It was an eye opener. We won't be going back! There are plenty of restaurants where custom is appreciated. It certainly isn't in Ti Piacera.

San Francisco Weekend

By 194MarkG194 |

Bad food, I mean bad food. Cook should work at Jack-n-box. Poor ambiance in part due to 1980's music/hair bands blasting.

Friendly service with good food

By MandMWorld |

Went looking for a restaurant on Polk St as it is at the end of the California cable car. Found this as soon as we got off the car. It had a buzz about it. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellant and reasonably priced.

Delicious Food

By Amy K |

Stumbled across this restaurant for lunch and it was a great find. Great menu. We both had pasta- spaghetti bolognaise and linguine carbonara. Both were delicious. Will return again before we leave.

Go for the whiskey sour, stay for the food

By Alison S |

While all the food I had at this restaurant was excellent, the outstanding item of the evening was the whiskey sour, which was one of the best I've had in years: a real whiskey sour with froth and egg white and not sickly sweet bottled mix. I had all the women at our table drinking them. We had calamari, which was light and crisp, homemade bread with olive oil dip, excellent. My entree was chicken Marsala that had no breading and a perfectly light Marsala sauce. The seafood ciopinno looked amazing and those who had it confirmed that it was. It was another great option if you prefer to avoid pasta, which I do. Chocolate truffles, tiramisu and lava cake were sampled for dessert and any of the three would be an excellent choice. Service was excellent, there was live music. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Good food at a fair price

By Kevin D |

We walked by and spotted a free table, though the place was more than half full. Half full is always a good sign when you don't have a reservation. the food was very good, service was relaxed and the price very fair. We would return without hesitation

Very Good Italian Place

By Debbie K |

This is a very nice little Italian spot that turned out to be a good place for a relaxing lunch. I stumbled on this place while walking to the Haas House. It was somewhat unpretentious from the outside but offered a very cozy and comfortable dining area. I was seated quite quickly and the server attended to me right away. She was pleasant and gave pretty decent service though she seemed to be a bit overwhelmed at times. The menu offered Italian/Mediterranean fare as the name of the establishment suggested. There were some interesting choices. I had the Panino con Vegatale which was a sandwich with grilled eggplant, mozzarella, zucchini, roasted pepper and red onions. The dish included a side salad. It was a very tasty choice and the portion was more than adequate. The price at $9.95 was fairly reasonable for the fare I received. Overall, I would recommend this spot for a quick Italian lunch if you are in the neighborhood.

great food at reasonable cost

By CMC7 |

I took my brother here for dinner for his birthday and had a great time. The food was great! We especially like the seafood linguine with fresh clams, caesar salad, and chicken madera. The service was a bit slow but they didn't mind us sitting and talking for 90 minutes either, and we weren't in a hurry. For the 2 of us it was only about $50 including wine (before the tip), which I found to be very reasonable. It's a great neighborhood restaurant.

A nice, friendly taste of Italy in SF

By Beemnz |

The food is really good and tasty, and is only really beaten by the friendly wait staff and good service. The menu and wine list are varied enough that you can find something you like, without it being too big that they cannot specialize in some good meals. The environment is very casual, and not very Italian-feeling, but it is a pleasant setting for a couple of group of friends type meal. Noise levels are ok, so conversation is easy.

Nice Italian Restaurant

By minnesota |

Nice atmosphere, cute little bar, good food, efficient staff, seemed clean( which is hard to find in town). Would definitely recommend and return again.

Fast food Italian would've been better

By ECBV2013 |

This restaurant served its purpose as a quick meal after a long day, but would not go back. It was difficult to see who exactly our waiter/waitress was. Staff was spending quite a bit of time on their cell phones. The food was "meh" and it was so salty!!! Bread was dry. I think Fazzolis would've been better and more cost effective.

Nice Casual Local Italian Place

By Jay F |

Found this place on OpenTable as it came up as a 1000 pointer. Advertising works! Friendly staff, small but vibrant bar, and plenty of seats. Water, and my drink order were taken care of within 2 minutes of sitting down. My drink came back from the bar and I was ready to order, choosing the Sole. The menu isn't extensive, but has something for everybody. Burgers and Pizza, Pasta, Entrees across all the major protein groups. I didn't look at desserts since I don't usualy imbibe. The Sole came out fast, as the kitchen wasn't busy, and it did not dissappoint. Large enough to satisfy my appetite, with just the right mix of lemons and capers. Giving this place a 4, since the menu was a little limited, the martini wasn't huge, and the bread could have been tastier. Great for families. Restaurant allows combination of tables to accomodate large gruups.

A Hidden Gem

By Jamie Y |

My colleagues and I recently went to lunch at Ti Piacera and we're absolutely BLOWN away. This is the best Italian restaurant I have enjoyed in a very long time! The bruschetta was delicious and their mushroom polenta was perfectly flavored! Their salad was perfectly dressed and tossed with fresh ingredients. We also had the porchini mushroom ravioli in a pesto cream sauce that was incredible. The chicken fettucine, mushroom risotto and eggplant Parmesan... All delicious! They serve this amazing roasted garlic in olive oil with fresh baked bread as well that is to DIE for! Aside from the food, the ambience and service experience was superb! Exposed brick and candlelight for the evening time with rich wood and warm colors throughout... Beautifully decorated. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend this restaurant!

Basic pizza and pasta

By Amy W |

We came here because they had availability for our large party with short notice. Nothing was bad, but nothing was especially memorable. I did enjoy the olive oil that came with the bread- it had roasted red peppers and olives inside.

Avoid

By TheUnwins |

We just returned from California, only had one bad meal the whole time. In an eleven day trip Ti piacera was the only restaurant that we left hungry. I had the salmon which was an overcooked thin fillet. I had THREE Small slices of potato and a couple of desert spoons of veg. The wife had Penne pasta with spicy sausage, small portion, pasta had no sauce. The brother inlaw had chicken with the same amount of potato (three small slices) and veg as me. I'm no cook but even i could have rustled up that food.. I could live with a small portion but the food was'nt even tasty...Rubbish Restaurant with Amateur chef in my opinion....

Friendly service, good food

By FainaAgain |

Strange, nobody posted a review for this restaurant! The service was friendly, the waiter was there all the time, when we felt it was too cold, we asked to close the window - it was done immediately. The place is very clean. I didn't really like the bread, once you bite, it becomes like clay in your mouth, but the oil had interesting herbs in it. Probably the first place where a spoon served with oil, so you can put some of it on your plate and everybody dips bread in his/her own plate. Side salad was good quality, polenta with mushrooms and sauce too. The entrees were regular size, not too big, just right. Coffee not great, but very digestable. On the menu, probably it's on line, mostly pasta and pizza if you like it. Risotto too. 3 of us had 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, a bottle of Pellegrino, 2 coffees, 1 amoretto. Before tips the bill was $65. Sure, we'll come back, loved it there! faina22@hotmail.com

A very happy visit

By Dara S |

I ended up here because my feet were killing me, and Swan Oyster Depot (recommended on this site) had a ridiculously long line. I really liked the atmosphere – it was warm and inviting and semi-upscale. The restaurant part was pretty empty (it was around 4pm) but there were locals gathered around the bar. Two women eating alone, and a group of middle-aged friends. The happy hour deals were great - $3.50 glasses of wine and discounts on some of the food items. The food was of the sort you’d be really impressed if your friend made – on the classy side, not perfect, but really good. My steamed mussels were tasty. My polenta wasn’t totally warm when it arrived, and the polenta’s texture wasn’t great, but the mushroom sauce was really tasty. I was finally able to relax, people watch, and not feel like someone was waiting for my table. The bartender also acted as host and waiter but did a fine job of it.

Lovely Bar/Restaurant, but

By Steve L |

My meal wasn't great. Minestrone soup was weak (why don't Americans put pancetta in it?) - and my Chicken Parmigiana was over cooked and the potatoes well overcooked. J's was good. Food served very quickly (another couple next to us were actually served their mains whilst still eating the appetizer!!!) staff were very good - but at SF prices and that ridiculous 15-18% tip....well average it is.

Cosy, lucky to squeeze in on Christmas Eve.

By Alan P |

Due to a particularly annoying incident with a booking for another venue for this evening, we were hoping to find somewhere to eat. When we arrived it was looking like we might have a quite a wait, but that was not the case and were seated easily in a short time. Naturally busy Italian restaurant, but we were pleased enough with the choice of food and the service was good. And thankfully not a place to confine you to an expensive set meal with no choices. Pleased we were lucky with the choice.

Hospitality on a different level (I haven't experienced such a warm owner in ages).

By Ben Hoffmann |

We originally wanted to go out for an espresso but ended up having a super great evening and an incredibly delicious dessert. We can only recommend the restaurant (are sad we are leaving tomorrow, otherwise we would certainly have stopped by again) to anyone and had not met in the 2 weeks USA stay as sympathetic a host as our Turkish friend (owner) from tonight. Feel free to get in touch when visiting Switzerland 🇨🇭 we would be happy to invite you for a glass of Jägermeister and some toffifee 😉 GLG Ben

Not the Best Dining Experience

By michbren |

Last week's visit to this restaurant was disappointing. One can overlook a lack of ambiance and indifferent, slow service if the food is good, but all three of our dishes were lacking in some respect. My husband’s caprese salad had three hard and very unripe tomatoes, my son's Bolognese was ok, but not much sauce and less meat and while my chicken Marsala featured tough, stringy meat.. San Francisco is home to many fine Italian restaurants; do yourself a favor and check out other ones. There were few diners in the restaurant and the neighborhood was rather spotty.

Highly recommended. It's worth it! Trust me!

By LinQue |

Have been here a few times in the last 60 days. After passing this place up a dozen times or so, decided to give it a try. So glad I did and have been back a few times since. First time, I had the leg of lamb! Definitely a favorite. Cooked to perfection. Succulent and savory. Meat falls off the bone. Deliciousness with an exclamation! Highly recommend it. Second time, I tried the Petrale. It, too, was great. Tender and juicy white fish. Absolutely recommend it! Third time, had the Salmon. Juicy, tender, flaky and crusted to perfection. Again, highly recommend it! Nothing seems to come out of this kitchen bad. Service is always top notch. Desserts are great! Recommend anything on the menu. Not once have they disappointed! Usually seats are available for inside or out! Background music are classic rock and appropriate volume to make a great dinner and dessert!

Delicious food and excellent service

By Laszlo S |

We have eaten here several times. Our son who lives nearby in San Francisco is a regular and every time we visit him we have a few meals at this lovely restaurant. We have never been disappointed - in fact it improves with every visit. We can highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

Nice food-Apalling Service

By AndyR73 |

Having just completed our dining experience at this restaurant, I felt it only reasonable to warn any other diners-and tourists in particular, what to expect. We made a reservation in advance for the dinner, and would therefore have been expected to be seated and seen to in a reasonable amount of time. Our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive -"changing the keg" -not quite sure how that applied to my wife's G&T? Starters -after prompting- took 50 minutes-and arrived with a 10 minute interval that meant my wife's had gone cold. The food itself was good-but gets lost in poor service. What particularly grated was a table of locals who came in 20 minutes after us, and were well into their mains before our starter arrived! The manager squared the cost of starters and drinks.. but damage well and truly done..avoid!

Salmon was fishy

By Deb L |

Place was packed, good happy hour pricing for good wine but my dinner was fishy tasting and recommended by staff. Wish I would have had pasta

Good spot for lunch

By PalmSpringsCA |

Solid food and I liked the feel of the place. I stopped in for a quick lunch before leaving town and it was well worth it. The waiter/bartender was very friendly and was fine with swapping spaghetti for linguine. The bolognese was tasty and the bread served prior was excellent! I'd definitely come back and try something else on the menu too! Finally, the price is a bit less than other comparable places with just as good quality.

Service and food ++

Chose this restaurant because it was close which turned out to be a great find. Fun started with a friendly, helpful waiter. Decent wine list that didn't charge over the top for really good bottle of Chateau St Jean and a good arugula and fennel salad to start. I had the pork Marsala which was paired with a thinly sliced potato dish and some fresh veg. Fantastic! Dear heart had crab ravioli and was in heaven. Split an orange creme caramel, (old fashioned fave), and an Affogato to finish.

This s the waiter there he s very good and he points u to some very good Italian dishes like the stuffed pork chop and some decent wines not a big selection by the glass but perhaps enough good bruschetta, excellent salad mixed greens with a vinaigrette

What a great Italian place

By Traveler32722 |

The menus had everything I was looking for. The oysters were so fresh the salad of arugala and fennel with walnuts and sweet oranges was delightful. The service from Jeremy was to notch now there is a man that can handle a busy restaurant and enjoy himself. What a great find in San Francisco. Oh and the happy hour was such a deal !

Best gnocchi ever!

By LJ11111 |

After checking in late to our hotel, we stumbled upon this Italian whilst on the hunt for a restaurant that was still open late evening on a Monday night. They'd closed the kitchen at T. piacera, but the manager said he'd be able to get the chef to rustle us up some pasta/salad dishes. Hungry and tired after a long journey, we accepted. Within seconds we had our drinks and a breadbasket with fresh garlic dipping oil. My other half chose a meatball linguine- the meatballs were enormous and the dish was delicious. I ordered spinach and parmesan gnocchi, which was to die for. It wasn't too heavy and the creamy sauce complimented it pefectly. We even said if we had the time during our stay we'd go back for more! The service was excellent, and we were made to feel very welcome, despite the extra efforts that were made to feed our rumbling tums! Brilliant family-run restaurant.

Great atmosphere, friendly and professional staff

By rhodesius |

Walked int this restaurant on our first of a three night holiday in San Francisco with 5 in our party including three teenagers. Great atmosphere with comfortable decor, dark woodwork, large picture windows onto Polk Street, smallish intimate setting with large antique bar on one side. Friendly staff was helpful and attentive without being annoying. Food was solid and high quality if not delicious and beautifully presented in several cases. I had their evening's fish special which came cooked nicely with asparagus And grilled portabella on the side with whipped garlic potatoes. Nice food, great atmosphere and attentive service all combined to make our recent family dinner here tasty and memorable.

Cosy

By Irene H |

We had 2 different salads, and each of them were ok, but some of de ingredients we held out of a glass e.g. the rot beets. The service was very fine and the restaurant cosy and nice.

Charming place, great food

By Sheriff60 |

This little Italian place has a quaint, romantic atmosphere. The burrata and bruschetta starters were very good. The linguine marinara was excellent although a bit stingy on the shrimp (only 2) while the chicken marsala and the stuffed ravioli were quite good. Service was attentive and pleasant. All in all an excellent outing.

Good find

By fishywog |

We were just strolling down Polk Street and came across this Italian restaurant. My husband normally does not go for Italian but we were hungry so went in. I ordered the pork chop and he the beef strogonoff. Both meals were excellent and we would definitely go there again

Great

By TinaSanPedro |

My husband and I visit Ti Piacera when ever were in San Francisco. I had the chicken Marcela and my husband had the seafood pasta. Both delicious! The vegetables that came with my dinner were cooked perfectly and came out of the kitchen "just made" not scooped out of a batch of veggies made earlier in the day. The manager took our order and took care of us all evening. I asked him if he was the owner and he told us his brother was..he worked the restaurant as his own. The entire staff was very busy but happy. The ONLY thing we didn't care for was the music in the background..to us it sounded like Vegas elevator (techno) music. Not our thing. When your in San Francisco in a quaint candle lit italian restaurant you'd expect music more romantic. With that being said we'll see you next year!

Just meh

By lchicagolaw |

We went for dinner because we could walk from our hotel, and we wanted some cioppino. The cioppino was tiny, tiny and just ok. Not worth $36. We also had the carpaccio, which was good, and the calamari, also good. Here is the kicker, though...poached pear for dessert for $12, and it's just half a pear! (and it's not even cored). A pear costs, like what 75 cents? It's no more work to poach a whole pear than half of one. So, to me, I was served a plate of, "Don't bother eating at this establishment again." The service wasn't adequate. Barely saw our waiter, so had to ask a busboy to order us some bread (for $5) and also to take our payment, because our waiter didn't come back after he dropped off the check.

You might get accused of walking out on a bill?

By Californiastneighbor |

Wow! What a welcome. I walk in the door and sit at the bar and ask for a menu and immediately am asked if I would like to settle my outstanding tab. I explained that you have the wrong person. I have not been here since my last visit some 2 years ago. I was then made to feel as if I was lying then shown a terrible picture of an ID on a cracked screen on an old IPhone 8 of "someone who looked like me" and was told not to "take offense." I showed my ID to show I'm not the one who ripped you off, explained I will never eat here again, and you may want to not have such aggressive accusatory management that will chase local customers who live just blocks away and like to spend money

Super Friendly

A long way from home and welcomed here like family. Great happy hour. Our final night in town so had dinner here and it was superb.Where do they get all that friendliness ? Would highly recommend

Wonderful restaurant

By 80237travel |

I stumbled upon Ti Piacera while walking around San Francisco and decided to have lunch there. It was the right choice. Ti Piacera is a wonderful restaurant. My salmon caesar salad was excellent. Likewise, I had an excellent glass of gruner veltliner wine. Prices were fair and more than reasonable. Service was attentive. Absolutely no complaints. I will return.

Special occasion, wonderful meal....

By Muffin3rd |

This restaurant was recommended by the concierge at the Holiday Inn Golden Gate Hotel. We were very happy with the service and the food was very good. While not the best food we've ever had in our travels, it certainly did not disappoint. We were celebrating my granddaughter's college graduation by visiting San Francisco and making more travel memories. This special supper added to the enjoyment of our trip.

Horrible.

By kg8367 |

My husband and I came across this while walking back from Lombard st. The place was half empty which should have been a sign but we're on vacay so why not try something new? Our waitress was half attentive and the food we ordered was bland and pretty much tasteless. Even my little one didn't eat the spaghetti (and she loves spaghetti. My husband ordered the risotto, which was also bland. My white sangria was pink, and pretty crappy. And when I figured I'll get a piece of tiramusu (because how can you screw that up?!?) even that sucked. They put salt on top of it. So I left highly disappointed, went across the street to walgreens and bought a bottle of sprite and tums in case I get sick late tonight.

Superb for families or just a nice dinner out

By Shadmonster |

We are on our last night of vacation and wanted to have a nice meal to end on a high note. This place did not disappoint! Our waiter Juan was outstanding. He assisted us with our questions about a food allergy making us feel comfortable. I found the prices here very reasonable for the city. We found a good bottle of wine at a reasonable price. the food was outstanding. The Penne Matricciana was delicious. The sausage was light and spicy and the white wine broth was perfectly paired for this meal making the pasta dish not at all heavy. I tried my daughter's wood fired Margherita pizza which was very flavorful. My wife had the veal piccata which was very tender and had a healthy amount of vegetables as a side....something you almost never see in restaurants. I highly recommend this restaurant whether you are visiting with your family or just meeting friends for a dinner out or wanting to have a romantic date. This place seems able to satisfy any occasion.

Soul food

By Schnugguselis |

If there's any desire for home in San Francisco, it's definitely Ristorante ti Piacera. The pasta cooked to the point with sauces like at Nonna. The wine list is also well stocked. And the service as everywhere in the USA very friendly and accommodating.

Great Restaurant out of the Tourist area .

By Trail18544404398 |

This is a very good local Italian restaurant in San Francisco. The service is very good and the food is also very good. You will see mostly local people in this restaurant.

Love this place

By John D |

We found this restaurant by accident when we caught the California Cable Car to Polk and as we waited for a bus we saw what looked like a nice restaurant. We were right!! This place s a busy, loud, typical Italian restaurant where the food, drink and atmosphere are all fantastic. Give it a try

Great food, service at a reasonable price, can't beat it

By rtlg |

We were staying at the Holiday Inn nearby and were looking for a place to take the kids and celebrate my birthday. The place looked like it would be expense so we walked by without looking at the menu the day before. It was raining and when we stopped to check out the menu, it sounded reasonable and lots of Italian choices. It could not have been a better choice. Service was great, the waitress mentioned it was happy hour so it was half price beer and house wine. The food was incredible, I wish we had gone back the next night.

Good burger!

By johnnyfromtheblock |

We stopped here for dinner and each had the burger and fries which was really good. The place is just near to the Van Ness end of the California St cable car.

Good lunch

By S. L. M |

We tired of the hour+ wait next door at another venue and came here instead. We were seated immediately. We enjoyed exceptional service, wonderfully warm bread with garlic sauce, and split a very good salad. We saw another couple share a salad & pizza, so we didn't feel too cheap. ;) The prices seemed high to me, but I'm not from the area.

Good Italian place with excellent service

Stopped by for lunch while out on a walk Sunday afternoon. Had a fine meal. Felt like it was a locals place - I was visiting from out of town. Very good meal and good service

Amazing experience in a really relaxing place with good live musicians, outstanding service and delicious food! If you are in San Francisco you gave to try this restaurant.

Welcoming

By onthesearch |

Was in the neighborhood earlier in the day and noticed "Specials/Happy hour info." outside. Mentioned my curiousity to my bf so after running errands we decided to go there for a drink. What we got out of the experience was much more then a good price and value for the money. We sat at the bar where several locals were also sitting. Within a short time they engaged us in conversation and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The staff was also very friendly and relaxed. This is always what we look for when trying new places. What started out as just having one drink and then home turned out to be an appetizer pizza (excellent) and 2 1/2 glasses of wine each!! And a pleasant and perfect ending to our weekend. We will for sure come back and tell all our friends as well.

Great Find!

By PRBubba |

We ate here twice on our trip, very unassuming place, on Polk street. The food was great! The garlic oil served with the bread was zingy. I had pizza one night and gnocchi another. Both exceed expectations. It was loud, much like you would expect from an Italian restaurant. Staff was friendly. Definitely a must go.

Excellent Italian

By elledan |

Great food at reasonable prices. The wine is excellent too Staff very attentive. The resturant itself very comfortable too

Delectable and Classy--even in Levis~! An Unexpected Experience...

By Xingdelancey1234 |

Ti Piacera is amazing~! Beautiful and warm, the decor enveloped us when we walked in. We half expected to feel out of place, because we'd stumbled in while walking through the city on a casual afternoon, but we were warmly welcomed and made comfortable--even though we were wearing Levi's and college sweatshirts. Italian hospitality from the front greeting desk to the parting of ways, we felt charmed and like Ti Piacera belonged in a small town on the Amalfi Coast. The menu was extensive and everything was presented well. (Hot dishes stayed hot throughout the meal--so nice~!) Don't miss out on the Moussaka. The lamb with sweet spices and bechamel was a taste-bud-to-die-for experience. (The well-rounded wine list was a surprise.) The price range will allow for any budget to enjoy this cozy and classy spot on Polk. I returned the next day after calling because I'd left my expensive sun glasses behind. The staff held them for me and greeted me like a returning friend when I popped in to retrieve them. Delicious dinner served with warmth and personal regard, hubby and I enjoyed lingering here....this one's highly recommended~!

Great family meal out

By Kirstymcnz |

We had the best night here. We arrived family of 6 no reservation. It was busy. A table was found for us. We were welcomed. The server was great, the kids loved him. He was helpful and funny. The best we have had on our visit to the USA. The food was divine. All adults, teenagers and the tween enjoyed their meals.

Very good food for lunch, service and outdoor dining!

By D i |

We stopped here for a late lunch and found the menu just fine. My girlfriend loved her panini and I loved they served breakfast items way into the afternoon. My frittata was very good as were the cocktails! if you're looking for other very Italian or Sicilian dishes, check th Little Italy area of SF or other restaurants, Just responding to another review.

Call in if you're in Polk Street

By Bill M |

Just reviewing this venue as a bar I can say it's worth going in if you're in the area. It's clean and has an inviting ambience. The bar isn't big but the drinks including beer are varied and reasonably priced. We actually had some bar appetisers, the artichoke and spinach dip was very good. The staff when we were there were friendly and helpful. Worth spending a few dollars in.

Great evening - fabulous atmosphere- amazing pasta!

By Anna N |

We happened upon this little gem during our trip through California. Honesty has the best night. Wednesday evening saw a great little jazz band play. Really added to the atmosphere- skilful and not too loud. If you eat nothing else, choose the clam linguine. Fresh as you can get. The broth sweet and salty, perfectly balanced (I finished it with a spoon!). The clams and pasta beautifully cooked. The best dish I’ve eaten for years by a county mile. Reasonably priced and very attentive and friendly service, even though it was busy there. The only down side is we’re moving on tomorrow so won’t get to eat there again this trip. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Scrumptioso

By KatrinkaSD |

Okay, fake Italian word, but real Italian food. We stopped in here because the line at Swan's Oyster Depot was ridiculous and we figured the spot next door probably buys their sea food there. We were not disappointed and the atmosphere was a heck of a lot more comfortable. Great food! Only regret was that we didn't get the fried calamari that the next table ordered. Looked sooo good! But we had a light lunch and two glasses of house wine that were simply perfect. I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything off their menu. (But do try the calamari!)

Great Italian Eat In or Take Out

By crayonline |

We went in on a Tuesday evening. Not too crowded. Got a nice table for two next to window to people watch. Quick service. Moderate menu selection. Saw pizza on next table, whole plate look really good; but we were in the mood for pasta. Noticed several people ordering to go and waiting. Our order came out hot and delicious. Creamy penne and the chicken was juicy. Would definitely come here again.

Off-quality

By Curt S |

We've been coming here for years. Ti Piacera is like a big, comfy saloon for reasonably priced Italian comfort food, with friendly efficient service. BUT last night's dinner was an unexpected mess: The normally creamy carbonara had big fat mushrooms in it with no guanciale (or pancetta) in evidence; the stem ends of the unusually large and unappetizing Brussel spouts were hard as rocks; the shaved "parmesan" shards on the un-oiled and flavorless beef carpaccio had the texture of oily plastic. Upon our hurried departure, we asked if the chef was new. No, the maitre-d said, same chef for the past 10 years. Oh. We hope these comments will help Ti Piacera's managers begin to improve the food quality at this popular Polk Street spot.

Great Food & Service!

By LifeOfTrip |

We had a delicious meal at Ti Piacera! The service out outstanding for our group of 11! Try the ravioli - seriously delicious!

Excellent food, great atmosphere.

We visited here in August. Really nice pizza and a great atmosphere. I can also recommend the house merlot!

A very good lunch in a cozy athmosphere

By Juhani P |

We had lunch for a party of three. Good pasta, friendly service. It was not very crowded at lunch time. The previous night we had tried for a dinner, but we could not get a table without a reservation. The ambience was peaceful. Simple but cozy decor.

Great spot, super friendly staff, great food and cozy atmosphere

By soyrubiamad |

We had a great late-night dinner here after getting in from a day of traveling and staying at the Holiday Inn on the block over. The staff was friendly and attentive and we had a great meal. We'd definitely recommend.

Honest classic italian

By Marc F |

After looking for two hours for a restaurant, this was a godsend :) my steak with gorgonzola sauce was delicious and so was the polenta with mushrooms apetizer. My girlfriend's pizza was a bit ordinary though. Service was very friendly.

mediterranian at its best

By limeyca |

Loved this restaurant. Everything from the staff to the cuisine...excellent. If you are in San Francisco and have the opportunity to go to this restaurant you will not be disappointed.

Disappointing

By stenolass |

We had walked past this restaurant on the previous evening and it was packed (a good sign usually) and so we thought we'd give it a try. We both opted for the chicken lasagne - now my idea of a chicken lasagne would be nice chunks of chicken in a lovely sauce with cheese and pasta. Sadly, their idea was finely ground chicken which was tasteless and, in the first instance, stone cold in the middle!! The waiter did take the dishes back and they were returned at the right temperature, but the food itself was very average. When I have a meal in a restaurant, I expect it to be better than I can produce at home, and this just wasn't - and I'm not blowing my own trumpet here!!! Perhaps we were just unlucky, but given the number of eateries on Polk, you can do an awful lot better. Price wise we thought it expensive for what it was.

Love it

By Mtcrook1 |

Excellent food, excellent friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. I have never had a bad meal in this restaurant, we've been on many occasions when in San Francisco. The waiting staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. They are not afraid to recommend dishes or wine. Even our son was treated with respect which is unusual. Will be visiting again and again next time we're there..

Valentine's Day

By PeterBruceG |

It was a bit of a surprise to have a different menu on arrival without notice when we made our reservations. The pasta was good, but of course over priced for the honour of a table on a busy night. Our server I found a little stuck up and hard to find most of the night. The bussers and food runners were pleasant. I am sure it is a great restaurant, I won't be back to find out.

great food and atmosphere

stumbled across this little gem one evening top food and a great vibe will be heading back there when in san fran

great Food

By WiltshireScots |

We were very impressed by the food here. Not too expensive and had a nice vibe. We did have to wait a bit to be served and again for our meal to arrive but it was worth the wait. fresh hot and very tasty. The service got better and our water got topped up when necessary. Would recommend eating here

Great neighborhood spot for a relaxing evening

By Sean H |

We booked this at last minute and were thrilled with our decision. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly service reminded us of our native Melbourne trattoria and the food was excellent. We were impressed by the barman singing along to The Smiths and this typified the friendliness of the venue. A great evening at the top of California.

Great Way to End the Day

Walked in, cozy, nice atmosphere. Bread incredibly fresh with nice mix of pesto/garlic vinaigrette for dipping. Half portions a nice feature. Linguini carbonara delicious!

Quaint, awesome food, great hosts and atmosphere!!

By Joberger |

We’ve eaten at this restaurant on both trips to San Francisco and it’s wonderful! Quaint, great atmosphere, fabulous food and the proprietors/staff are efficient and friendly. We ate here as a family Jan 2021 and my husband and I took a chance on NY eve 2022 and were given a great table in the window. (We had to vacate before the booking arrived but we had more than enough time!) We were just grateful to be accommodated. It’s close to the hotel district so easy to walk to and reasonable considering you’re in the city. We would definitely recommend Tia Piacera and look forward to our next visit when in the USA/SF!

Friendly and good food

By Judy S |

I've eaten here several times when visiting San Francisco, and it's always good. The Italian cuisine is fresh, well prepared and generous. The wine and beer selections are good. The service is friendly and prompt. It's a good neighborhood place where an outsider is made to feel welcome.

Best Clam Sauce

By Betsy D |

We were blown away by the red clam sauce! The Manilla Clams were perfectly cooked and Sal, the owner, made us feel like part of the family. Also noteworthy, were the calamari, minestrone, and the eggplant parm. Loved the informal atmosphere!

Great Food

By Chris M |

Solid wome selection, great food variety. My girlfriend had the spinach gnocchi. I had the penne chicken pasta. Everything about our dishes was great. Her gnocchi was amazing! My penne was fantastic! Highly recommended!

Best Food I Have Ever Eaten!!

By bayernbabe |

I do not say this lightly when I mention it was the best. I visited the restaurant during New Years Eve, and although it was a little busy, everything went perfect. We made reservations about an hour before arriving and went around 8:30. Myself and my husband sat in a very beautiful corner table. There were candles and great dim lighting. I ordered the lamb (medium) while he ordered the steak (well done). The only issue with the meal is that they switched the meat temperatures, so him and I just switched, but the food tasted perfect (I tried both obviously). The side dishes were also amazing with the mashed potatoes (literally the best I ever tasted). Although pricey, the perfect ambiance, amazing food, and impeccable staff made our New Years Eve perfect. The only issue (which is not their fault) is the parking. We had to park up hill a few blocks away. I recommend arriving a little early to try and search for a better parking spot as it was hard in stiletto heels.

Nice Casual Vibe

By Sandra S |

We tried this place after looking at the reviews and menu online. This is a good casual place and the food is also very good. No linens on the tables and a bit noisy and I would consider sitting at the bar and eating the next time, as it was very lively and seemed like the people sitting there were having a great time. We started with cocktails and tried the Cauliflower Soup, Beet Salad, Petrole Unico and Salmone, all really delicious. Our server was very attentive and the overall experience was very good. It was also a really good value! Check it out for yourselves!

A great find!

By ggcaiazzo |

In an area that seems to have more than 100 restaurants, this little place is a gem. It's a nice little Italian restaurant on Polk Street. The food is very good as is the service. I started out with the mussels and clams which were nicely done although they could've used a little more garlic. For my main course I had their seared tuna in a caper lemon sauce on top of the bed of fresh spinach. It was delicate and flavorful. The restaurant has a full bar and a nice wine list.

VENTURING OUT

By Quasarsoujourner01 |

Ran into an old acquaintance at a SF Housing Reception. We decided to get together for lunch. Since he works at a French Cultural Institute. He picked Ti Piacera Restaurant on Polk Street near the French Cultural Center. So I ventured out to Polk and California for this restaurant. The front of the restaurant has an open cafe like sitting to the street. However, when I got there at noon. There was only one patron. We picked out own table. And, the server was prompt . One side of this restaurant has a full bar and the remaining side is for dining which can safely sit over 30 persons capacity. To my surprise, my French friend was also on a diet and not eating too much red meats or chops. So we both went for the same soup and salad menu, plus beef as our beverages. Thereafter, the bread and the garlic oil dish came. It was a change of taste and nice zing to the tongue! The creamy soup came but was luke warm, followed up with the salad which was very good with goat cheese and nuts. The price for two was reasonable for two. If one is ever around this neighborhood, drop by Ti Piacera. Its not bad.

Pleasant surprise

By Richard F |

We were disappointed that there was a 45 minute wait to get into our first choice dining spot, so we bailed. But this fallback worked really well for us. Lamb shank, lemon veal and red lentil soup/salad were all lovely - as was dessert. Good ambience. Service was attentive and the glass of wine was tasty. Price was fair. Wonderful conclusion to a great day out. No complaints.

A fantastic Italian restaurant

By coojen |

Went here on our last night in San Francisco what a gem of a place food lovely friendly staff and helpful. Would definitely eat here again

Cozy and Delicious

By StevenVA |

I visited Ti Piacera with friends who live in San Francisco. It is one of their favorite Italian/Mediterranean restaurants, and I was impressed. The restaurant is not large, but it has ample space for a decent size crowd without being cramped. The menu has an extensive selection, with delicious entrees that could satisfy most any taste. I opted for the Spaghetti Bolognese, and found it to me much more like what I have experienced in European restaurants than what is normal in the States. The sauce was very meaty and was not overpowered by excessive tomato sauce - just enough for flavor. One of my friends ordered the gnocchi, which came in a rich sauce and looked devine. This is definitely a place to visit when in the city and you're looking for more of a "local" spot away from the touristy areas!

Great business dinner

By KMS320 |

We were in San Francisco last week for a conference and wanted to get away from Moscone and the crowds. This restaurant was a short walk (20 minutes) from our hotel in Union Square. The bar tenders were wonderful and we great to chat with. Dinner was wonderful and they had gluten free pasta which I ordered because of a food allergy. Most in our party got pasta and everyone loved it. Great restaurant with attentive staff!

Nice Italian if You Are in the Polk St. Area

By FrequentTraveller034 |

Other than having to wade through various Polk St. panhandlers and other colorful characters to get to Ti Piacera, this was a good experience. Almost every table was filled and there were two very large parties in the mix – the waitstaff was really struggling to keep up with them and we waited quite a long while until we were finally asked for a drink preference. From that point on, all was OK. The bartender (perhaps the owner) had jumped in and took our order and handled us throughout the meal; he was super friendly and a nice all around guy. We had excellent cocktails and really only wanted to have a main course since we had had a late lunch. We had their Salmone filet which was just average and not as moist as it could be, accompanied by very fresh vegetables and scalloped potatoes. We also ordered Petrole Sole which was pan seared and quite delicious, accompanied by a dollop of wonderfully fresh spinach; however the roasted potato slices seemed a bit tired. Prices were not too bad, although they were higher than what appears when one clicks on their menu tab on the Tripadvisor web site.

The Italian Job

By Alan H |

The last night of our 'Coast to Coast' tour and a few or our party wanted to have a meal together. I had seen the page advert in the Hotel Guide (Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, just around the corner) and so I suggested this. At the end of the evening, everyone was congratulating me for a great choice. After eating in various types of places across the country, we found that Italian food generally did not disappoint - see La Vela, Amsterdam Avenue, New York; Osteria Marco, Denver; Pasto, East Aspen Ave, Flagstaff. Ti Piacera did not let the team down: good service, enjoyable company and wonderful food.

Last dinner here

By Karen A |

We were recommended via our host, who got it from an Italian colleague, so thought we’d give it a try. We had a great meal and not massive portions. The restaurant was busy with a buzzing happening vibe. We had 1 starter, 2 mains and 1 dessert plus a bottle of wine total $104. Service was attentive but not pushy or rushed. Great place!

Lovely

By Chris W |

We had a lovely meal here. Great food. Great service. There is great atmosphere. The food was tasteless and the portions were nicely sized. The meal was good value for the money.

I do not understand the bad reviews

By JimmyChuck1948 |

Four of us are visiting San Francisco and saw this restaurant while on the cable car. We looked it up and had mixed feelings about giving it a try. Curiosity won! It proved to be very good. Between us we had a pizza, ravioli, veal, and a shrimp and pasta special. None of us had any disappointments. The pricing was fine, the service was fine, all around we had a great night. One confirmation to the previous reviews; the bread and olive oil accompaniment was indeed terrific.

Cozy way to spend Christmas Eve

By newyorkdoll4 |

A perfect choice for a local Italian restaurant. The staff was friendly. Restaurant is small and a bit cramped but it was warm and inviting. The penne with vodka sauce was very good. Well priced with a real neighborhood feel.

Perfect. Accidental find and exactly what we wanted/needed

By yesimallpacked |

We got off the cable car and began wandering the nearby streets looking for a place for a bite. Mid afternoon. Walked up to Ti Piacera, looked in , looked at the menu. Perfect. Bright. Clean. Greeted immediately. Given table at the window. Service very efficient, prompt. Listened to our questions and directed us to perfect choices. One of the best clams and mussels in garlic/white wine sauce I have ever had. Very fresh. I even sought out the chef/open kitchen to tell them upon leaving. Very reasonable prices. High quality. Our Table also beet/citrus salad, pasta, and a twist on bruschetta. Would definitely recommend.

Popular for good reason!

By Lewis F |

This is a very pleasant place for lunch or dinner. The service is good and on both occasions I ate there the good was excellent. They have a limited range of pizza but a good selection of pasta. Soups and salads and some very good entree (main course) options.

Lovely Atmosphere, Great Food

By SandyCA44 |

We wanted to try the oysters at Swan Oyster Deport but the line was out the door and down the block. Sorry to have missed that, but we'd been walking all day at the arboretum, so we chose T. Piacera for immediate seating. It turned out the be a lovely choice. The atmosphere was peaceful and pleasant, staff were friendly and the food was creative and delicious. We especially enjoyed the appetizer Involtini Melanzane, eggplant stuffed with mushrooms.... amazing! I'm sure this place would be more crowded at normal meal time, but we were having a pretty late lunch and the dinner crowd hadn't arrived yet. Very nice experience!

Love the Chicken Penne, Fried Calamari Appetizer

By Gerry C |

I am in San Francisco for a few days for a new job orientation. The sales manager took 3 of us to dinner and this restaurant was his choice. I do like Italian food but not much of a food critic! The waiter was attentive to our needs, drinks in less than 5 minutes. I ordered organic wheat penne with chicken. The other guests ordered chicken marsala, pepperoni / mushroom pizza and caesars salad. An order of fried calamari was also added. I do not eat calamari but it looked interesting and it was really good. The batter was just right, not too thick or thin. My order of organic wheat penne was definitely out of the park! The combination of tomatoes / sauce, squash and a sprinkle of olives provided a contrasting taste once one starts chewing on the food. I will be back next week for another week of orientation and I will for sure come back to have dinner here with my girlfriend.

Something not quiet right

We dined with others of our group at Ti Piaceria Italian restaurant on Polk Street one night. We were disappointed, though the service was good, we felt the meal was overpriced.

Birthday dinner

Came here to celebrate my birthday wasn’t disappointed. The food was great as was the atmosphere. Couldn’t have asked for a better night. I had the chicken in Marsala sauce which was gorgeous. I even had a candle in my dessert for my birthday. Would highly recommend you try it :)

Great welcome on Polk St

Found this place originally for a happy hour drink. Great staff and welcoming reception. As a result booked for dinner – the food was excellent and for a San Franciscan restaurant – very reasonably priced. Would recommend - would give four and a half stars if I could

Good food, nice people!

I am doing this review for our friend, who hates all seafood and refused to eat at The Swan with us. I told her to try this place as we saw steak & chicken on their menu! She had the steak shiskabob and said it was really good. She spent $17.00 on her meal. They said they get quite a few odd people I that did not want to eat at The Swan.

Solid italian food

We were looking for a place near our hotel, and 5 his wa convenient. I had chicken parmigiana and mt wife had the prosciutto pizza. Both were very good, not great but solid value for the dollar. Our only complaint was our bill was hand done and they added wrong, by mistake maybe but it was a $14.00 overcharge. I always double check everything and they fixed it quickly, but others may not.

Fine service, good food and an atmospheric place

We came here on Thursday evening without a reservation but they were able to seat us. The restaurant wasn't totally full but there were many people. Our waiter was a funny guy and the service was good and attentive the whole time. Our drinks and food came fast. Both the pizzas and the pasta worked well but if I need to choose, I would recommend their pizzas. All in all, we had a great evening there and I would go there again to meet friends or have to a romantic dinner with my girlfriend.

OK Pizza

By Brian y |

Decided to have a late evening pizza at Ti Piacera on our first night in San Francisco. We were going to order the pizza con proscuitto e rocco, but were told that they didn't have arugula, but instead were substituting spinach; it's not the same. Our second choose of pizza ti piacera (italian sausage, mozzarella, peppers & caramelized onions) was OK but was lacking in toppings & flavour. The pizza must have been sitting around for awhile as it wasn't very hot. House wine @ $8/glass was good for what we got. I'm sure that there are better restaurants in the area, but we were hungry at the time. You win some, you lose some.....

Bustling and vibrant

V-Day menu selection was not as diverse as I hoped, however, the atmosphere was good.

Tasty, Reliable Italian Cuisine; Nice Atmosphere - But Too Noisy

By Melany W |

Ti Piacera is a very nice, tasty and fun restaurant in a fun neighborhood. The service is great; the wine list is very decent and the menu has good variety. We were a little underwhelmed with the salsiccia starter and totally delighted with the polpette. I would not order the Penne al Matricciana again here - have had tastier at other restaurants, but the lamb shank was outstanding and the Linguinne Carbonara was good too, though I've never had it with mushrooms. The only really unfortunate thing is that like so many restaurants, it is just far too noisy and very difficult to have a conversation. Also, many restaurants print their menus with a small and very narrow font and this, combined with dark lighting makes it difficult to read menus.

Great Food and Drinks at the Bar

By Daveandshirley |

As we explored the streets of San Francisco, Up and down the hills, we decided to look for A unique local place to try the cuisine. To Piacera was a fun stop for lunch. The drinks were great and the beer on tap cold enough to Quench my thirst after climbing a few hills. We had calamari and a little pizza which all came out hot and delicious. See pictures.. Our bartender Juan was a great server. He was Attentive, knew the menu, made great drinks, and made us feel right at home. This was one of Our best stops in SF. It’s right next to a MUNI route if you’re not feeling Energetic or Uber is a easy solution from anywhere in town.
