Lasagna and fettuccini with lamb. Pasta was light, sauce delicious and waiter picked out excellent wine. Great service Near to Sax 5th Ave so hit it with your shopping.

Booked reservation online, table was ready. Friendly atmosphere with amazing food to match. Short walk from the Intercontinental Hotel Barclay, perfect end to NY stay.

We were excited based on reviews for our dinner for 4 at Toscana 49. Ordered a caprese dish to start, and the unripe tomatoes were in super thick slices, with no flavor. It was served with 2 small slivers of mozzarella and a single basil leaf the size of a thumb nail. No olive oil or vinegar. My son ordered a lasagne dish that he said was amazing, although strangely it was drizzled with a luke warm bechamel. Other son had a tasty veal piccata that he enjoyed. I had a lamb ragu with fettuccine that lacked flavor or any depth. The desserts were tasty, particularly the tiramisu.waiter was pretty surly, but bus boys were hustling big time. Anyone with any COVID anxiety should avoid, as it’s jam packed inside. Overall, given the cost, fairly disappointed. With the choices in Manhattan, this one doesn’t need to be on the list.

Service and food were tip top We had a very good fresh artichoke and baby arugula salad perfectly tossed The home made pasta caccio e pepe was exquisite not to mention the ragú tagliatelle and the lamb chops Very recomendable

We found this restaurant just around the corner from our hotel and oh my god - what a find! Being first timers to New York, we wanted to do the tourist points but also wanted to experience some authentic New York culture and this restaurant really delivered. The service was impeccable and staff were really friendly. We were seated immediately and drinks promptly served. Our food arrived quickly after ordering and it was some of the best Italian food I’ve tasted. I would 100% recommend this restaurant and will definitely bring my partner when we return to New York so he can also try it.

My daughter lives in the city and we go in every few weeks to visit. We try to find a new restaurant each time. We are serious foodies and kind of picky. Yet, I had to write this review because Toscana 49 was an absolute 5 star restaurant. The restaurant is quaint and has two levels. We were seated upstairs which was a bit more quiet. The staff was amazing. They knew the menu and could answer any questions. My husband likes "extra" dirty martinis and yet they never come out dirty enough. This place nailed it. The appetizers were very good as were the main meals. You cannot beat the prices. Maybe because they are not located in a tourist area where they charge way above what the food is worth but the quality of this food beats a lot of other places. You absolutely can't go wrong. Put this one on your list and you won't be disappointed.

What a fabulous restaurant! My husband and I ate here on Thursday, September 26th to celebrate our anniversary. It was fantastic from start to finish. My husband had the pasta fajioli soup and linguine and clams and I had the sea bass special. Everything was delicious. Their bread is amazing! We were given limoncello as a special treat. Our servers Polo and Marcello were excellent. They were fun and answered any questions we had on the menu. They are an asset to Toscana 49. We will be back when we visit next year. Thanks for a great night. Ellen Corbett

We had Linguini alle Vongole to $29 and Fettuucini di Agnello to $29, where the portions was good👍 A good winelist as well. We had a 2021 Barberad’alba from Marchesi di Barolo to $65, very fair price But the waiter service was to fast with s focus on selling the table as many times as possible. Plates were moved before all had finalized theirs meals - unprofessional. The bill came a few minutes After the coffee without asking. Again a sign of to get out. There is room for improvement regarding the waiter service

This was great. Food and service were both fantastic. We did book a table outside and when we got there, the outside area was full, but that was fine.

Amazing food and service! It was exactly what we were looking for; loved the atmosphere. Will definitely come back every time we visit NYC.

Handy for our hotel when we didn’t want to have to walk too far. The food was average - typical pasta dishes. If you are on a budget this isn’t the place for you.

Nothing exceptional. Was recommended by the hotel, came in and it was half full with no one at the bar. They didn’t have a wine or drink list, only what the server could articulate from memory. The white table linens were ripped. Food was sub par

We made a late reservation and showed up and was rushed to make a decision. They gave us bread and it was cold not even a smidgen of warmth to it. We got the spaghetti and the lasagna. My husbands spaghetti was less than average it, the meat tasted like grease and the sauce wasn’t anything special and barely warm. The lasagna was hot but nothing I’d make and serve to my Italian great grandmother. Very average and was the last meal we had on our trip to NY.

South American dressed as Italian. There is definitely better in NYC. The ambiance is ok. The food a bit amateuristic.

What a great spot. Totally authentic Italian. They cooked garlic bread from scratch for my daughter! Amazing fish and the best gnocchi I have ever had. Great experience.

This restaurant was delicious. We enjoyed soup, mussels, steak and pasta dishes. The service was fantastic. We would go back.

Very wonderful meal with excellent service. Wait staff is extremely attentive. Menu has a large selection of seafood, beef and pasta. Appetizers were delicious and a nice wine menu. Fun Sardinian wine. Great bread and bruschetta starter. Cannoli was really delicious. Great coffee too. Muscles were really a highlight, homemade pasta. Everything was delicious

Excellent Italian restaurant. I don't know the prices because we went with a voucher, but the cuisine is truly Italian and the owner is a really friendly person. ADVISED!

Authentic food and nice cozy ambiance. Good service. It’s a bit loud but it doesn’t ruin the experience. Would definitely go again.

Classic Italian dishes done well. You could argue the parmigiana was a bit overcooked but it tasted delicious. Good creamy sauce with ravioli.

Excellent food and service, great pasta and grilled calamari. One extra wine glass charged but corrected immediately.

The food is consistently delicious and the service and ambiance is so warm and welcoming. Everyone working there wants to ensure you have a great experience.

Celebrated my bf’s birthday here. I love the ambience, the services were pretty good too, the staff sang happy birthday for my bf, so I appreciate it. However the food was mid for the price, I was expecting something more. Keep improving.

The staff was amazing even seating outside and being completely attentive even though it was below 30 and no other patrons were outside. Food was delicious!

The food is wonderful! Last year I met the restaurant looking for some open place to eat on Christmas day since it was all closed and AMEI, this year I came back to eat again because I liked MUCH. It's worth seeing ✨

Very nice atmosphere food is very good. Only one mishap when servicing the wine the glass was just out of the dishwasher it was warm and had water drops. We asked the waiter to bring new glasses and instead he tried to dry the warm glass. We finally had to demand a new cooler glass for the wine.

One of the many Italian restaurants in Manhattan. Decent Italian food, but lacking space, very noisy and not so cheap (last 2 comments rather usual in New York!). Good level of service.

Maria and Tayaa are the best , they make our night memorable and we really feel like home! Thank you Toscan 49 team for amazing hospitality!

It was a pleasant buzz when I entered the restaurant. It is a lovely atmosphere that you usually find in Italy. Servers were bustling back and forth with dishes and drinks while talking. I got a seat at the bar. While enjoying a nice glass of wine, I went through the menu. As an appetizer, I chose the Gamber! Toscana and as a main course the Linguini Vongole. Both dishes were very tastefully prepared and tasted delicious. The staff is friendly, and the bar lady who was also responsible for the guests at the bar was very spontaneous and service-oriented. It's a perfect place for an Italian bite.

We were in NYC to see our parents ,and Sunday night we decided to go out for dinner to Toscana 49.The restaurant was recommended by our friend’s,and they were absolutely right. The food and the service were outstanding. We can’t wait to go back.

Pinot Grigio Chilled and great flavor Service very friendly and professional Appetizers tomato Mozzarella standard presentation Good flavor bread good Carpaccio of beef ok Mushroom risotto nice Veal scaloppini good Pasta vongolo good but to much oil Clams exelent Cheese cake fantastic Espresso to Acid needs work Overall love the place will be back

We had a very nice dinner for 2 at this restaurant. The clientele ranged from families to business diners and couples and a range of attires. The location around the corner from our hotel at the Intercontinental Barclay worked out great. We walked in w/o a reservation on a Wednesday night although it’s suggested that folks call ahead or have their hotel check first if possible. Prices were moderate to higher but the food was excellent as was the service. Good wine selection and reasonable prices (for a restaurant). Would go back. Note that there is ongoing construction in the area so don’t be put off by the nearby scaffolding outside the property.

Arrived in NY Thursday evening staying just a block away. Toscana 49 was recommended by staff at the Lexington hotel. We arrived around 8PM and seated immediately at a quaint table for two. Wait staff was plentiful and while not extremely friendly, they were very business-like and did a great job waiting on my wife and I. We had tomato soup and salad for appetizers and the ravioli and lasagna as entrees. Bread with I’m sure is their homemade sauce was outstanding. Thanks for making our first dining experience in NYC one to remember.

Had dinner here tonight just by chance - near to our hotel. Friendly staff, good food (loved that the pasta was clearly freshly made on site) and nice wine choices. Would come here again for sure!

We went here with my son and his girlfriend. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Excellent salads and lasagna. Large servings on the soups and pastas. Nice ambiance.

Best midtown lunch. Quality service and food. Price is not crazy for that part of town. Better than the overpriced restaurants in Midtown and the quick luncheon places with poor quality food.

Just the Perfect Italian Bistro experience. Kind staff, amazing fresh pasta, great wine list. We were staying at a hotel a block away & we loved it. Try the Cacio e Pepe

The restaurant was recommended by the hotel concierge and we were not disappointed. It’s a very nice dining room , stylish with smart efficient service and a well balanced menu. We choose to share a cacio E Pepe dish to start which was nice but did not have the real hit of pepper you would expect if your ordered it in Rome. The spicy chicken I had as a main was delicious, perfect Pollo alla Diavola with some excellent roasted potatoes, probably the best dish I had in New York. Would definitely recommend

I had a wonderful meal at Toscana 49 in December! The food was fresh and delicious, and the service was wonderful. I had the caprese salad and the lamb ragout--both were absolutely delightful--and the prices are very reasonable for food of this exceptional quality. The place was bustling, but the service was incredibly attentive, under the watchful and friendly eye of the manager. I heartily recommend Toscana 49!

Lovely authentic Italian restaurant Great food, good service and reasonably pricing. Wife and I had the shrimp to start and the fettuccine with lamb ragu for main. Really great food.

Pleasant looking place, but... when essentially full is very loud, waiters provide a quite indifferent service. They bring dishes without knowing who gets what, after removing dishes and cutlery from appetizers, don't know to bring fresh utensils for entree, don't know that parallel cutlery means you are done with the meal, no one seems to be paying attention in order to get the bill. Wine list should include region of provenance. Food is adequate, but nothing more than that.

Great atmosphere, very authentic Italian food. My wife and I have gone multiple times. A must go in Midtown.Lasagna is amazing.

Our favorite meal every time we visit. We had a reservation and they had our table waiting for us. The service is extraordinary. It is refreshing to see staff that genuinely take pride in their guests' experiences. Listening to our server describe the specials was like an Italian poem was being read! :) We loved the knowledgeable descriptions of the offerings and the very intimate atmosphere. It feels like you are dining in a family's home. The lasagna was indescribable. Special- doesn't feel like it could be replicated at anyone's home except maybe your Nona. My husband requested a dish he had LAST YEAR when we were in the city and they knew what it was and happily prepared it for him, even though it wasn't on the menu. Our kids feel the air of sophistication and don't dare pull their phones out. It's an experience. You will remember it- the food, the experience, all of it! My husband told us several times after we got back home to NC that he would take the train up to NYC, eat there and take the train back home just to have it.

Nice dinner food was good and wine too. The location is cool and classic But tables were too close to each other and there was a lot of noise apart from that in complex a good experience.

We had lunch here. I had the Caesar salad to start. It was average. My wife makes the best Caesar salad and could teach them a thing or two. The bread with the dip was lovely. Very tasty. We both had the lasagna for lunch. It was exquisite. Creamy yet light and very great tasting. One of the best I have had. We both loved it. We would go back. The people were nice, attentive and friendly.

Had a nice casual dinner with colleagues here during a business trip to New York. There seemed to be plenty of locals in the restaurant. The food was nice but not remarkable. Reasonable prices. Would certainly recommend.

Excellent service and food. It was crowded on a Wednesday evening, so we were thankful we had a reservation. All five of us were really impressed. I will be back next time I'm in town. The dipping sauce for the bread is fantastic! They should bottle and sell it.

Good mid-town location, great atmosphere, good wine list, attentive service and authentic Italian food, well worth a visit.

Got there totally by accident. And it was one of the best accidents that I could have… Restaurant is currently somehow hidden behind scaffolding, but it’s a hidden culinary jewel. The food is delicious- all Italian style. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. And they are all fans of European football (soccer…). 😁 Loved it and when I get to NYC again, I will definitely get to Toscana 49 again.

Toscana 49 is a real gem. I was there with business friends, and everyone loved the experience. Iretreat Great

Authentic Italian food. Great selection of wines. Great service, friendly staff. A bit loud but still a wonderful dinner

We came here on January 1st without a reservation so we sat at the bar. We had the mussels to start; absolutely delicious!!! Same for our main course (tortellini and fettuccini) = 100% recommend!!! Great drinks, amazing service! We recommend this restaurant!

This was our first time here and we would recommend it to anyone. The food was wonderful ,the waiters were friendly and helpful and the place itself is charming.price wise for new york city it was very reasonable. We will definitely be back

Great food, superb service. Quiet and comfortable. Reminded us of something from a movie set. Perfect end to our trip to New York.

It’s a nice restaurant and the service is good but the food is just average. The most tasteful party was the free tomato salsa and bread that was given when I got there. I ordered the Tomato Soup which I really wanted a deep tomato flavour but instead it was a little watery and no depth of flavour. Then I had the lasagna and this was lukewarm and the pasta was really thick sheets with so little of the beef which was a shame as the beef was very tasty but so little and too much pasta. Wish it had been bubbling hot with half the pasta and twice the meat filling.

This is a fine Italian restaurant in midtown. The ambiance is low lights and romantic. The menu is about what you might expect although it is a bit light on pasta. I had the white bean soup and lasagna. Both were excellent. My only complaint is that it is very noisy. As a result, everyone talks even louder, making it worse. Other than that, the food and service are good.

I chose this restaurant for a meal with five friends who are based in New York. It was an Italian restaurant with excellent value for money. We went in at 6:30 and it seemed empty, but by 8:00 it was packed. It was a good moment to make a reservation.

Visited this Italian restaurant last night. Lovely staff, great food, nice wine, very relaxed atmosphere. Given complimentary Limoncello after our meal. Only here for 2 weeks and decided before we came not to eat in the same place twice, but will have to break our rule for this place!!

Food was delicious. Especially enjoyed the lasagna. Service was excellent. As with most places it was a bit noisy. Reasonably priced for NYC.

Toscana49 offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere at a first glance. But what could be a good experience was not at all. The staff was pushy and rude and our experience with the food was horrible. The menu seemed promising initially with a some of classic Italian dishes. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite live up to our expectations. They have a lot to improve to be called an Italian restaurant.

I love Toscana49,the best restaurant in midtown Manhattan. Excellent food service andsservice.seservicessservice.service .Thservice lasagn

Such a nice, bustling feel to this cute Italian restaurant. Had a table upstairs, initially next to a big group of loud guys but they gradually quietened down and we had a lovely meal. Bread with tomato dipping sauce was lovely. Veal piccata was extremely good. Pastas were nice albeit bigger portions than necessary. Lamb ragu was excellent as was the pasta with prawns. Service was great - and when I made the mistake of adding 20% service to a bill that already included it, the waiter spotted the mistake and told me to take it off. That would not happen in many places!

The food the people and the ambience Always excellent Grand children always enjoy their favorite in the city !

Good food. The excellent tiramisu. First class service with great attention. The atmosphere is friendly and quiet Very nice place

Went early evening without resos, no problem. Full by the time we left. Service prompt and efficient, food good. Typical NYC prices! Only complaint is noise. Our table of four strained to hear each other. They should add some sound deadening material in there somehow.

This is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant, the neighborhood just happens to be midtown Manhattan. We visited as a family on our trip to NYC and had a lovely meal. Prices were pretty reasonable for Manhattan. The carpaccio starter completely melted in your mouth and I had a lovely glass of red wine to accompany my lasagne. Would definitely return

We very much enjoyed an excellent dinner experience the other night. White tablecloth service with gentle background music. Excellent service. All dishes were very flavorful. We will return!

The food is top notch. Grilled octopus was fabulous. Tiramisu was great. Not cheap but generous portions. Worth the money.

i took some work friends here yesterday (none of them had been there before). they all loved it. this is my go-to place near grand central station.

Great food and service. Richard is a wonderful maitre’d. Had the steamed mussels, caesar salad, grilled calamari, spicy chicken, a glass of chardonnay and amartini. Everything was perfecrt

Loved this place - everything was excellent. Staff, food, location, setting, atmosphere - all highly recommended. We even had interaction with a number of other diners which was lovely. They were all locals and this was a regular place for them to dine so that was very positive too. We chose to dine outside but inside is really lovely too. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Thank you to all

Came into the city on Christmas Day and wanted something close to the hotel. Toscano 49 was in a perfect spot for us. I had the Taglioli Cacio e Pepe, which was so good I finished the entire dish. Our server was excellent. My son said it was the best pasta he ever had. We would definitely go back

Probably the best spaghetti marinara I have ever had. The fish was really fresh, well cooked and there was lots of it. Beautifully complimented by just the right amount of sauce and perfect, "al dente" pasta. The beef carpaccio as a starter was also excellent. Service was excellent, room was intimate (if a little loud). Very good and I will return.

Terrific food, lively atmosphere & really good, knowledgeable service. Who could ask for more? We’d go back in a heartbeat

Average food, we had risotto and veal. Sadly it was nothing special. The worst part of the meal however was the wine. It’s the first time in my life that I have tasted a bad Barolo. Service was adequate. All in all a disappointment.

An absolutely lovely experience! This was a quality experience. The pace of the meal was perfect. Everything we had was excellent. A nice wine selection. I would go back in a heart beat!

Some of the best Italian food ever coupled with excellent service. From the caprese salad to the Caesar it was outstanding. My Wife had the mushroom risotto and said it was excellent. I had the lasagna =amazing. Our server John was super and so was everyone else in the restaurant. Tiramisu for dessert is highly recommended.

While awaiting our trip to midtown Manhattan for a conference, I had researched on Trip Advisor for a highly rated Italian restaurant within walking distance. I found Toscana 49, which exceeded all my expectations! There is a lovely ambiance in the restaurant, reminiscent of a prior trip to Tuscany with a knowledgeable and very pleasant staff. More importantly, we both enjoyed a very delicious dinner accompanied by a very fine wine. To top it off, we finished the meal with Vin Santo and biscotti. It really felt like we were transported back to Italy.

Upon entry we were shown to a table for 4 but, seeing as we were a couple they removed some cutlery only to show some old food from an earlier sitting. The waiter left it there so I pushed it to the floor. He then asked what we would like to drink and we asked for some wine which he suggested. 10 minutes passed and another waiter asked if we wanted a drink as they had forgotten my order, bearing in mind we were the only people there. The meal was ok, nothing special, and if anything a bit greasy. My wife's meal (lasagne) was luke warm and looked distinctly average as if it had been thrown onto the plate. The waiter never addressed my wife throughout the entire meal and made he feel less than welcome. They weirdly take the wine bottle away from the table after pouring and occasionally top it up and I know for sure that there was some wine left in the bottle when they took it away at the end. 2 other tables of customers came and went during our meal and they were given free deserts as they didn't enjoy their main meals.Aot of money for a poor experience.

We really enjoyed Toscana 49. My clients and I were very surprised at the enthusiastic energy level as well as the great food. We especially enjoyed the Pork Chops, the Veal was outstanding as well… Great spot, Great food, Good value. I eat in NYC regularly and would absolutely recommend Toscana 49.

Spot On . We had the Baby Artichoke and Arugula salad, Mussels, and Cacio E Pepe. They make their pasta in house, the bread is perfect, the wine by the glass is exceptional. 5 out of 5. Great service. Casual Bistro Atmosphere. The room gets noisy because the patrons love it here and talk very loud. Welcome to New York.

This place was near to the hotel we were staying in and proved to be a good choice. Food tasted good and service was attentive. Would recommend.

We were looking for a restaurant to have lunch quickly as we had a return flight. In an hour top chrono we had lunch and what a pleasure to be able to eat well. The waiters were excellent and the kitchen well executed. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will return with great pleasure.

Wonderful little restaurant with excellent food and thoughtful prompt service. It is quiet enough to have a real conversation and the food is as close to Italy as I’ve found in a long time. Shaved artichoke salad, delicious ravioli with fresh asparagus, risotto with fungi porcini—all terrific!

Toscana 49 never fails to deliver. Last night was no exception. The restaurant was buzzing yet the staff attended to our table, offered suggestions and never made us feel like they wanted us out to turn over the table. The meal was devine. We all had pasta. My brother said it was the best lasagna he’s ever had. I had the straw and hay which is one of my favorites. Good wine, good food, good service all around. I eat at Toscana 49 every time I am in town. Looking forward to the next trip!

Nice ambience. Food very good. Good and timely service. The only thing I noticed was lack of olive oil unless you asked for it.

We were coming to New York a day early before our cruise and wanted to enjoy a restaurant close to our hotel. We were delighted that we chose Toscana. We had our local nieces and nephew meet us for an early dinner. The restaurant is not very large and offers inside and outside dining. There is a bar area. We had a reservation for 5 people at 5:30 PM – a perfect time as the restaurant filled up shortly after that. It was after all July 4th! We did have to request that they turn down the music twice. (It was our misfortune to be seated right under a speaker.) It was so loud that we could not hear each other across the table. They very kindly turned the music down and we were able to have great conversations. We ordered a bottle of Simi Chardonnay – 2021 Sonoma– a very drinkable and crisp wine. We enjoyed the following: Melanzane alla Parmigiana (baked layers of eggplant, mozzarella, parmesan, tomato topped with basil), Insalata Toscana (arugula salad with pear, walnut, and pecorino cheese) Pollo alla Casseruola (boneless chicken with sausage and peppers), and Piccata di Vitello (veal scaloppini with asparagus in a lemon white wine sauce), My husband had Spaghetti alla Chitarra e gamberi (guitar spaghetti with shrimp and arugula in a light tomato sauce, which was on the spicy side). I was really excited to see that they offered Paglia e Fieno con Panna, Prosciutto e Piselli. This is a dish that brings back wonderful memories of when I lived in Rome. It is dish called straw and hay pasta with prosciutto and peas in cream sauce. It was excellent. The sweet finish to our meals were two chocolate mousse cakes and a Tartufo – enormous portion of vanilla and chocolate ice cream covered in hard chocolate. We all were delighted with our meals – sending compliments to the chef.

Traditional Italian cuisine in Midtown East. Reasonably priced for Manhattan. Appears to be very popular with locals, so have a reservation. Mussels were the best I have ever had- not overcooked, with a spicy tomato broth. Veal was also excellent. Cozy ambience, and friendly professional staff.

This small Italian restaurant is everything you could ever want for homemade traditional dishes and atmosphere. This was our third time visiting there. The first time was during the Christmas season. We just happened to find it on Google near our hotel so we walked. They were booked up but the manager made room for us at the small bar and we had a slight wait. It was so good we went back the next night and booked a reservation. Twenty months later we return to the continued perfection. All the good is amazing ALL of it ! The ambiance is soft subtle lighting but not to dark you can't see. The service is above and beyond. We took our future daughter in law there for her birthday and they sang Happy Birthday. One of the servers has a bravado that belongs on Broadway ! I feel like family when I am there but also like I'm in downtown Venice in a little Italian place. Perfection is not a good enough rating for how fantastic this place is . Honestly i almost dont want to shrethis review because i dont want anytbing to change at this special spot but everyone should get to enjoy such fine cuisine. MUST GO and make reservations.

Fantastic! Great ambience - food was amazing and staff were incredibly well informed from dishes to a great wine list!

Memorable New Year’s Eve dinner Amazed by the quality of food and service. We loved the calamari, Lasagna and great Tiramisu. Can’t wait to go back

Italian food we took was good including the starter, and the tiramisu excellent. But the price was a bit exagerated, and the service guys forced the water consumption by continuously filling our glasses, so that we were brought a 2nd sparkling water bottle we had not ordered. It was our first dinner in NYC of this trip, the restaurant was at the entrance of our Best Western hotel, so very convenient, but we did not go back to it.

We ate here two nights, a Thursday and the following Saturday. We loved it the first night and even more the second night. The food, service, and decor made us feel comfortable and welcome. The first night we tried pasta dishes, and my Lasagna al Forno was unlike any lasagna I have ever had. It was layered in the usual pasta, sauce, and cheese but also a flan-like layer that transported this dish far beyond the ordinary. The waiter said it was a very old recipe which I assume meant a family recipe. The second night we went with fish dishes. My wife's salmon was perfectly prepared and she was very happy with it, but I tried red snapper from yet another old recipe. Wow! Three triangular filets were artistically arranged on a bed of small tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, and some things I couldn't identify in a wonderful tomato sauce. There was a little quirkiness about the wine menu. A folder on the table lists only their wines by the bottle, so I asked for a list of their wines by the glass. The waiter said they didn't have a list but they certainly had wine by the glass. What did I want, he asked, and then started reciting the red wines that were open. I chose one. We did the same thing the second night and he recited the open white wines. It worked quite well for us because we just want a simple wine with our meal. Those more intent on a specific wine can choose from the extensive list of bottles. Service was total teamwork, though only one waiter took our order. The waiters watched from the edges of the white-linened dining room and moved quickly to a raised hand or a water glass needing filling. Prices are moderate for world-class city.

Undoubtedly the best Italian small restaurant for a quiet romantic meal, well off the beaten drag of 5th and Broadway, on 49th off Lexington. The wine and food are superb, the staff are super attentive, and the cheesecake is to die for. If only this wasn’t our last day in Manhattan. I advise you to come and enjoy a traditional Italian dining. Salut

Friendly local, attentive and courteous staff , Some dishes executed very well, others do not remember the taste they would like to emulate. Excellent wine list, very expensive. In 4, 2 courses per person, 2 beers peroni and 1 bottle of water about 70 euros per person

Excellent food and service, we arrived early and we taken in earlier without any issues. Have your COVID vaccination prior and with you. Glad for that!

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was subpar, and they added $100 to the bill, claiming it was a New York rule. The rule is to tip the amount you want to give . It felt like they were dishonest and attempting to maximize the payment. While we paid a total of $540, I believe it's only fair for customers to decide the tip amount themselves. Bad experience , choose other option for dinner , there are more resturants fair with the clients . #CustomerExperience

Lovely restaurant, very busy, we had mussels, salad with pear and walnuts, chicken and a pasta dish, very tasty, great service.

It was really a nice surprise. Everything was more than excellent, service, atmosphere and quality of the food. Prices are very fair.

The food we ate was delicious. The restaurant is dark and the menu is difficult to read. The tables are close together, there is a lot of noise. The bill was $ 83 (2 noodles, 1 prosecco, 1 mineral water). I gave you a $ 10 tip. Our waiter, after paying, remarked that I gave a few tips because this is an extra restaurant..Mistake! This restaurant is good on average! More than 10% tips should have been thanked. I eat this at any polar restaurant in Italy, a third for that, and they’re happy to tip as well.

We went for lunch on Labor Day and were pleasantly surprised to find Toscana 49 open. It has a shed on 49th, but it was a little warm that day so we sat inside. We had a salad , lasagna, ravioli, and a couple glasses of wine. Everything was really good, and service was terrific. Probably caters to the midtown business crowd, but we liked it.

We went on Valentines Day dinner and had an 8pm booking. We arrived on time expecting to have to wait, but were seated promptly which was a good start. Our waiter was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Our main course was good and we shared a very good tiramissu for dessert ... very cream!

We walked by and decided to have lunch here. We very much enjoyed the pizza, pasta, tomato soup and caprese salad. Everything was fresh and delicious.

My Best friend and I have been coming to New York for many years for the U.S. Open. Several years ago, we started a tradition of going to Toscana after the men’s finals on the last day of the tournament. Obviously, we missed last year, but we were determined that we were not going to miss this year and the restaurant did not disappoint. The food was fantastic - not a surprise. The staff was gracious and we also got a chance to spend a little time with Dorian, the owner/every thing, who shared the struggles of the last year and a half. He was able to keep most, if not all of his employees on the payroll and, even though, according to him, things were tough, he feels confident that the restaurant will come out strong on the other side, and, in fact, he has also opened another restaurant in the city. In all, our trip to NYC and the USOpen was a wonderful success with great food and company - all topped off by a visit to this fabulous gem.

Excellent Italian restaurant We went with a 35 USD voucher excluding drinks I don't know the prices But the platter of cold cuts, the fried calamari, the pasta and the sliced with rocket are excellent

This restaurant was a discovery on our last trip to NY that we found delightful. Warmly welcomed, we had a delicious brunch for Mother's Day. After a plate of perfectly prepared asparagus, my husband had the pasta with clams which were really the tiny 'vongoli' of Rome. My eggs Benedicte on smoked salmon were much more typical of NY but excellent. We had a tiramisu and a great coffee, then walked out into the sunshine. The space is limited and fills quickly, so best to reserve. It was full when we visited.

Lovely restaurant to retreat to as a solo diner. Warm welcome, great service, and delicious food, and the tiramisu was one of the best I've ever eaten. I would dine here more regularly if I was a local.

This restaurant is the perfect size and you can actually hear each other talk unlike a lot of other NYC restaurants. The food is always delicious with very good service.

This was our first time at Toscana 49 but it won't be our last. The caesar salad was delicious. I had the lasagna and my husband had veal scaloppini with asparagus and lemon white wine sauce. Both were amazing. Espresso and tiramisu were also very good. Our waiter was so attentive, he reminded us of our trip to Florence. Thank you for a memorable night!

Great service. Great suggestion for wine for our dinner. Artichoke salad was wonderful and was glad we split the order. I wasn't a fan of the liver appetizer. Veal Piccata was wonderful

A quick walk from most mid town Manhattan hotels sits a very special Italian restaurant. Excellent service, great staff and fantastic food, Downstairs is noisy, but fun, while the upstairs is more laid back and better for a first date. I can't wait to come back to N.Y. so I can go there again.

I finally got back to the City and decided to try a favorite restaurant. I was not sure if Toscana was able to survive Covid. But, it was listed as open, so I ventured to East 49th Street. The place looked the same. I estimate that it has about 20 tables of four seats (maybe more, maybe less), and a few seats at the bar in front. It was relatively busy, but I was able to get seated without delay and no reservation. I ordered the veal scaloppini with asparagus again. The asparagus were perfect, but they did not strike me as overly large as my last visit in 2017 (LOL). The main entrees range from $30 to $50, a markup since my last visit but still quite reasonable for this part of town. I had lunch for my previous visit so the menu rates might have been different for dinner this time. My bill landed under $100 covering wine and dessert. The tiramisu was good, well balanced. Thanks Toscana.

We stopped by to book for 2 people and a 1.5 year old, in the stroller in sight of the owner. We went to dinner on December 31st and only while sitting down we discover that they don't have any high chairs, we ask for Wi-Fi to at least entertain the little one, they don't even have that, they serve us two proseccos in a glass without showing us the type or brand, and above all the cost. (prosecco questionably acceptable, perhaps bought in a discount store) €37 We order first course and a rustic bread. Bread is bread with oil, the first courses are made with cacio e pepe pasta which was actually Pepe (too many Simos) and cheese… then a tagliatelle with meat sauce. Everything continues with the desire to send us away quickly, in fact they continued to pour water into the glass, to finish the bottle and make a new order. To the point that after ordering the tiramisu They didn't even ask if anyone wanted a coffee, the bill arrived at the table without me having asked for anything. Nothing really tired them. Ps The first terrible nulls were as they should have been

We had dinner at Toscana 49 last Friday. This is a neighborhood restaurant on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. It is elegant. It was busy. It is fairly priced. Judging by the prices, you get the feeling “they must own the building.” The four of us had a 5:30 reservation. We were seated immediately. This is a white tablecloth type of restaurant where the server changes your flatware with every course. Pasta dishes were $30 or under. The most expensive item I recall from the menu was the strip steak, which was $46. For a midtown Manhattan restaurant, that is very reasonable! We had two bottles of Chianti and shared two desserts. The restaurant filled up. It looks like it is very popular in the local area. Are there negatives? None that I can think of. This is a new addition to our repertoire when we visit New York.

We had an early dinner before going to the theater. The service was excellent. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The Caesar salad was perfect. My husband enjoyed his straw pasta special and I thought the eggplant parmigiana was delicious. Also liked the quiet white tablecloth atmosphere of the dining room.

Lovely late lunch here in midtown, highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Italian food and welcome, even the background music is in Italian!

Phenomenal food, great atmosphere, staff were amazing. We had the lasagna and ravioli. Would recommend again and again!

All 4 of us loved our food!! Favorites were the mussels for appetizers, homemade ravioli with asparagus and pancetta, the lamb ragu, caccio e pepe, and salmon. Wonderful service, and just a terrific night.

What an excellent neighborhood experience near the Barclay hotel. We ate there twice on our recent stay. We enjoyed the specials, pasta and solid wine selection. The staff made of very welcome.

As always this is a mid town favorite. Food is excellent and reasonably priced and service is always top notch. Great neighborhood place

First time and hopefully not last. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated in the comfortable and pleasant dining room. Servers (Sarrar, Tayaa) were excellent, Our light meal included arugula and artichoke salad, pasta e fagioli soup, cacio pepe with fresh pasta, and generous glasses of chianti. I look forward to returning. It's a lovely place with delicious food and many great options on the menu.

Had a lovely Sunday night vacation meal with friends and enjoyed it from start to finish. Great drinks, food, and atmosphere. Friendly and informative staff. Recommend a visit if you are in the Times Square area of New York.

Excellent Italian restaurant, delicious food, nice place, excellent service, the property owner Andrea is very attentive, friendly and fun. I highly recommend!!!

Toscana 49 was a great way to end a long day of travel. Had the Ricotta Ravioli with pancetta and asparagus. Wonderful, light pockets of cheese filled delicious. Will definitely go back.

This place is amazing! The service was wonderfully attentive and the food was phenomenal! We were relaxed and didn’t feel rushed to leave. Desserts were good too!

Toscana 49 is a cozy Italian restaurant with a warm atmosphere, great service and great food. Traditional Italian. We had the fettuccine with veal ragu dish, straw and hay pasta with prosciutto and peas in a cream sauce and chocolate mousse cake and tiramisu for dessert. Good wine selection. Reasonably priced. I would go back again.

Great pasta at reasonable prices. Beef carpaccio appetizer, arugula pear salad, super tender shrimp with pasta in a light red sauce, lamb bolegnese pasta and a delicious chianti.

A nice intimate dinner with my wife. Service and food were superb! Lamb chops cooked to perfection and almost melted in my mouth. Very friendly and accommodating management and staff. Highly recommended.

Booked well in advance and confirmed but on arrival the table was not set / ready and had to wait, as if we did not have a Reservation. The menu is (on paper) Italian, but when tested not all flavors certainly remember Italy; worse dish is the cheese and pepper paste, inexplicably made with a green pasta with spinach (?) and full only of pepper, without pecorino or amalgam. Pasta and beans very elongated and brothy, medium charcuterie board as quality (and small in size), grilled salmon acceptable, chicken in a saucepan quite good. Service not empathetic / not nice, the waiters fill glasses of water in a frantic way even if repeatedly asked not to. At the end of the dinner the same waiters put you in an excessive hurry to clear the table and very abruptly invite you to pay: this is not the best, I'm sorry.

Met our children there and had an enjoyable birthday dinner. The services was great and the food was great. Will definitely go again.

Disappointed with our meal. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is very nice. Our appetizers and wine was very good but the meal was not good. The spaghetti was from a box and the ravioli was frozen packaged not what I expected at all. The creme brûlée was undercooked. It’s too bad.

Finally after American meals we discovered this Italian restaurant which we highly recommend! Andrea the owner served us very well! Starter of delicious cured meats as well as perfect burrata and fried calamari... well cooked pasta, very good meat and excellent bottle of Tuscan wine... average Italian price Atmospheric place

Excellent authentic Italian in every way. Service is top notch. Food is delicious. Atmosphere is cozy. Worth the visit!

Not a real Italian restaurant, nobody speaks Italian! Service long waiting times, Too much talking instead of taking care of the guest!

Came for drink and late bite to eat after the seeing the Rockettes show. We sat at the bar and they had us try the wines we each ordered to ensure it was to our liking. We had a few glasses of wine and shared an insalta Toscano and the steamed mussels. Very generous portion of mussels. Food and service was excellent!

I had dinner at Toscana 49 and was very pleasantly surprised by the experience. The dining room is warm and inviting, with white tablecloths and ample seating space. (They also have a few tables outside on the street.) I relaxed with a dirty vodka martini (excellent) and chose the prosciutto melone as a starter. The melon was just the right stage of ripeness and the sweetness paired well with the prosciutto. As my main course I chose the piccata di vitello, and my waiter paired it with a Nebbiolo. The flavors were superb. The staff presented me with a grappa as a digestive (they also do limoncello). Much appreciated. The pricing was very reasonable for NYC. I will definitely return on my next visit to NYC.

Quiet with delicious food and attentive waiters. The Caesar salad is outstanding! The pasta portion was huge so we passed on dessert!

We travelled from the UK and met some people in Cape Cod who recommend this restaurant as they visited every time they were in NYC. We’ve been to the city a few times so was great to have a new recommendation beyond the normal options, and Toscana did not disappoint. It was packed on a Monday night in the pouring rain, full of New Yorkers - always a good sign. Excellent food, excellent service. 100% recommend.

Fantastic food, wine and service. We went as a party of three on our last night in New York City. The restaurant was buzzing, but we still had attentive and fast service. Delicious pasta, a great wine list, and make sure you order the tiramisu!

This Italian restaurant was very close to our hotel and as we love Italian food it was the choice for our 1st dinner in NY. A charming little restaurant with a good ambiance, though you would quickly realise that this was NY and not Italy with the noise level!!! I am always surprised at the price of wine in the US, they are prolific wine producers so one would think you could get a Californian wine at a reasonable price!! Anyway prices ranged from around $58. I chose a Chianti (when in Rome!) which was excellent and full bodied. For Starters I had Caprese di Mozzarella e pomodoro - delicious and refreshing - my husband had Insalata Toscana Arugula salad with pear, walnut, and pecorino cheese, also delicious if somewhat small! My husband’s main Ravioli di Ricotta Homemade ricotta cheese ravioli with asparagus and pancetta was very flavoursome - however again a small portion and it was served tepid which spoilt it. MINE!!! Risotto ai Funghi Porcini Risotto with porcini mushrooms (One of my all time favourites and eaten copiously when I lived in Italy) well.... the arborio rice was so over cooked that it resembled mash potato - the whole dish was wet and slimy and the mushrooms which should have been the jewel in the crown were again over cooked and rather tasteless. I left most of it! The waiter asked me if I didn’t like it, I said no, so he took it away and said nothing more!!! Finished off with Sambuca(s) another favourite which were great but st $16 each not a cheap option in the US! All in all (excluding the Risotto) a lovely evening. As my teacher use to say though they “Could do better”!

Pasta with ragu was very good and sufficient size. Service was very good. Good wine recommendation and all decently priced. I will come back

The best Italian restaurant in area, very nice staff, delcious kitchen. Lasagne and aglio olio on high level. Homemade grapa. Thanks

We stayed at the Marriott off 5th and walked to Toscana. Made a reservation, got there early, and were seated early so that was awesome. Food was delicious. My daughter got pasta and said it was the best she has had. My other daughter and I got the specials -- a duck dish and fish dish. Both dishes were amazing. Great service Staff, and wonderful atmosphere.

Perfect location for us as we were staying at The Kimberly Hotel. Intimate Italian, great wine, cozy upscale. Perfect!

My first time at Toscana49 was before lockdown. I am so glad they are back! Toscana49 is the best place for authentic Italian midtown/UES. We had another superb meal (the incredible lasagna for both of us) served with first-class service. Grateful to have this place on our radar. I recently recommended this place to a friend for a first date and she said it was perfect. This spot bridges the gap -- ideal for a special occasion or just for a quiet brunch with friends. Superb wine list and friendly service.

A good Italian restaurant in mid town. Food was excellent so was the service. It was welcoming, the decor was pleasant, the atmosphere peaceful and very enjoyable.

We found this place based on proximity to our hotel. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was excellent. The wine we chose per server's recommendation was very good. We ordered the pork chop, which was excellent. Very thick but cooked perfectly. The lasagna was a little disappointing. It was fairly basic. My wife actually makes a better lasagna. But overall I would certainly return for another meal.

Was in town for a few days doing college visits with my daughter. Found this place (was a late dinner), and they had an outside table. Servers and owner (assume he was the owner) were friendly, welcoming, attentive, and made for a very enjoyable end to the day. Food was fantastic. Table had salads, salmon, lasagna, and pecorino pasta dish. All were spot on, prepared well, and very nice. Cheesecake at the end of dinner was awesome. I will definitely go back in future visits to the city.

Great small Italian neighborhood style restaurant serving up traditional Italian food. The place has a great atmosphere and the service is great. Felt really welcome and left fully satisfied with our meal.

People , if you want to see how a restaurant should be run, go here. I have never experienced service at this level, and I have eaten at thousands of restaurants. Hassan was the best and the food was top notch. Went here and was so impressed, rebooked. These guys are the best. Thank you for an unbelievable exsperienc.

Food, service and ambiance were great. Really. Our wait staff delivered, despite one of the dishes being over cooked (which they gladly replaced) and topped it off w extra wine! :)

Small but charming restaurant in midtown east Manhattan. The host and servers were very accommodating. We had brunch and food was delicious especially the French toast topped with strawberries and the scrambled eggs with shrimp. Will definitely return and try dinner next time.

Toscana49 is a real game. I am glad to see this restaurant open after all this crisis. The service is excellent and the food is real Italian ,I had the lasagna and it is the best I’ve had in NYC.. I remember to have a lasagna as good only in Bologna.

One of the best Italian Restaurants I've ever shared a meal at! The food was outstanding, service was impeccable, and the ambiance was that of a favorite Italian restaurant. The House Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay were very good. The Carpaccio, was amazing; sliced extra thin and lean. The fresh mozzarella appetizer with pruciuitto and eggplant was wonderful. The Caesar Salad and Paglia Fiena were phenomenal, best we have ever had. The special Branzino with lemon butter sauce was delicious, as was the Pollo ala Diavola. We finished one of the best meals we've ever shared at an Italian restaurant with cappuccino, and the bartender was kind enough to give us a chocolate rimmed martini glass with shaken vodka and Baileys; we loved both of them. The Maitre D' and waiters were attentive, helpful, and friendly.

Perhaps it was an off day, but the quality of the food has gone down and prices have gone up. The noodles for the lamb ragu pasta were so overcooked that it would break into pieces as I twirled my fork. My son’s lasagna was uninspiring; my wife’s linguine vongole wasn’t bad but was heavy on the garlic. The electric outdoor heat lamp was too weak for the 41 degree real-feel weather. The service, however, was great; the waiter was attentive and thoughtful. The portions were generous. And the super hot plates managed to keep the food warm.

There were two of us for dinner and the tables were approximately separated, the service and food were wonderful. I would suggest this restaurant to anyone.

Lovely friendly restaurant. Started with 1/2 portion of clam vongole (not on the menu as a starter but were happy to accommodate the request). Mussels in tomato sauce - so many. Excellent. Two specials of lamb shank and risotto. Big portions Beautiful And a main of clam vongole which i was slightly disappointed in as there was a lot of empty shells . The biggest disappointment/ annoyance was the toilets. One mixed toilet for the whole of the restaurant. Appreciate we should talk about the food but lining up to share a toilet which to be honest needed an overall (cracked and missing tiles ) spoils the night slightly.

Everything from appetizers to desserts are excellent Grandchildren always excited to eat there Service is very attentive

We discovered this Italian restaurant while walking around New York and we loved it right away. The atmosphere is very welcoming and elegant, the service very precise and the food is very good, we assure you that it is typical Italian one. The cost is not excessive, especially compared to the city average. Absolutely recommended.

A great Italian restaurant with quality food and fantastic staff. We went for spaghetti dishes and tiramisu and crème brûlée for dessert. All of them were tasty, well prepared and delivered in a timely fashion. Staff were really professional and friendly. Would recommend to anyone in the area who is after a decent competitively priced meal

Always wonderful food, ambience, service! Weekend brunch is delightful! On East 49th Street between Lexinton and Third Avenue!

We stayed three consecutive nights in this well-kept and clean restaurant great welcome from the owner and staff, excellent Italian cuisine, excellent desserts I recommend it

Great food! Lively atmosphere. The whole family agreed - this is a destination place when we come to NYC. Cacio e Pepe and eggplant starter were especially good.

This restaurant was an easy walk away from our hotel and thought we'd give it a try after reading a few reviews. We were not disappointed. The service was very good and the food tasty. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere!
We visited the City for 5 days. The first night we ate at a Greek restaurant near our hotel. The fish was good, but the prices were high! On the second night we ventured two more blocks and discovered this gem! The quality and taste of the food, from appetizers to deserts was at the top! The service was very friendly and professional. So, we returned the next night! No surprises, the whole experience was exceptional. We would have returned the next night, but one of the people in our party had made reservations at another restaurant, which turned out to be a bomb! Next time, we will not try another restaurant! Thank you Toscana 49!
