Fantastic Ramen. Be sure to bring cash because they did start accepting credit cards but then stopped! Also, if you have three people, than you must order three bowls...no sharing! If you are not willing to put up with these rules, then you better go somewhere else. Even after all of this, the noodles are great!

We stopped at Totto Ramen (Chicken) on a very cold NY day before seeing a matinee in Broadway. The chicken and pork versions of Totto Ramen are side by side on 52nd. There was a small line up but it moved quickly and the hostess asked us to order before we got our table to move things along quickly. Our meal was delicious, hot, tasty and fresh. It was a perfect meal for a cold day. Cash only.

We visited Totto Ramen on a trip to NYC. I've read good reviews on Totto and wanted to give it a try and it did not disappoint! We arrived around 1pm on a week day and was able to get a seat immediately. By the time we were done, there was a line outside! We order 2 different bowls (Mega Paitan and Miso Paitan) and both were very good. The texture of the noodle was on point and the broth was deep and rich. We had spent 2 weeks in Japan earlier in the year and have been comparing all ramen we're having to the ones we had in Japan and the ramen at Totto is certainly comparable to the ones we had in Japan. Service was friendly and quick. Highly recommend to anyone who's visiting NYC and craving a bowl of good ramen!

Not inexpensive but solid bowl of ramen worth at least a couple of visits in the cold winter days. Best if you are open to share so to go with family members is a great idea. Love the ambiance and nice service. You can be quick in and out if you are in a rush. They are fast in serving you.

During a recent stay in midtown, I ate at Totto 3 out of 6 nights. I loved their vegetarian ramen. The place has a great vibe (despite always being packed), the staff was very friendly and the service is great. I liked sitting at the counter. If you are a Ramen fan and are visiting NY, check this place out.

I ordered the Paitan the soup was very creamy being it chicken base, but it didn't have a deep flavor also the chicken was very very dry, it wasn't bad overall but it wasn't great i feel like the dish was unfinished, it's missing the 20% kick

The staff here was super friendly and the ramen was good. I had the classic with chicken. Cash only.

Best I have had. Ordered the large portion, great pork belly and pork with great broth and noodles. Enough for 2. Appy of kimchi was just the ticket for a great meal. Small place by good turnover of seats. Expect shared tables.

The food is excellent and it is amazing to watch how busy the place is and how a strip kitchen manages the lunch hour crowd. It is a cash only restaurant so be prepared and don’t be surprised .

Just go! The Ramen is delicious! Small place and tight interior so plan for that but BIG portions of delicious food. Nice selection of appetizers and about 6-8 versions of ramen. Very friendly staff.

I loved the cozy feel of the space and the ramen. I'm thankful for vegan broth which is hard to find. The avocado on the ramen was so unique and really made it a special bowl. The service was fast, so even though there's not many seats, we didn't wait long for anything.

By far one of the best ramen places around New York. The place is small and intimate, the menu is simple and has good vegetarian options as well. I was advised to keep cash handy as they don’t accept card payments, I didn’t mind that at all given how well priced the food here is. Portions were great, and wholesome. I wish I had more time so I could return here!

Please, don't go to this place! Don't go with the flow. The staff is very rude, asking for bigger tips aggressively! They put differentes parties and don't ask before do it. Many other better choices around!

My sister introduced me to this place and I loved it. Many times I find myself craving for ramen especially during rainy days. Totto Ramen is just a short distance away from where I live. I’d always go there for a quick ramen fix, although lines can get quite long at times.

I cannot say how much I love their food and how good of a job they do at really creating an authentic Ramen. I had decided to go into this spot when I as working in Midtown and had seen this enormous line that spilled out of the restaurant. Upon talking to some other patrons I decided that I too would wait in line and try the food out. When I got my order I was simply amazed. I loved the full flavored broth and the tender meats and veggies. When comparing their Ramen to the Ramen that I get back in Kansas City there is simply no comparison. I felt that the service was great although the place was bustling during my entire visit. All my expectations were met and exceeded. My only recommendation would be that make sure to bring cash with you as they do not take credit or debit.

My fiancé and I stayed in Hell’s Kitchen during our first trip to NYC. Totto Ramen was just a few blocks from our AirBNB so we decided to try it for dinner on our first night in the city. It was our FAVORITE meal during our entire stay! HOT, delicious ramen that warms your soul in a cozy environment with great service. Limited seating and cash only.

I am not even a fan of ramen but this place has won me over. Their broth is incredible! We also tried the pork bun for appetizer and again, amazing! Don't be discouraged with the line, the queu moves quickly. Totto Ramen is on my must list for NYC restaurants from now on.

The Ramen “best seller” we had, was the best ramen me and my boyfriend had ever had. Perfect balance between price and quality of the food! I would recommend everybody to go there!

The Ramen was delicious and the service was excellent. The seating, as mentioned in other reviews is tight and, after being asked if we were ok with it, we were seated with strangers which was fine with us. I'll sit on the steps with the rats if I'm hungry enough. I'll definitely look this place up again when I go back.

I didn’t realize they did not take credit cards and only had $100. There were 5 of us and bill came to $93. I used bathroom and my party paid and waited for me outside. It’s a tiny bathroom and you can barely move in there. When I came outside the waitress said I only left $7 and that was not enough. A man came over and insisted I made a mistake and I couldn’t leave without tipping more. The waitress said to go outside and get my husband to bring me cash. When I tried to leave they both blocked my way. The man called me ghetto and finally moved aside so I can pass.

Friendly welcome. Hell’s kitchen restaurant where local New Yorkers and tourists come. Classic Ramen are very good

This is literally a hidden jam! Located a few steps down from the street, this small restaurant offers a relatively short menu with a few options of delicious Ramen and some other Asian dishes. Everything is very quickly served so even if you encounter a line outside , do not get discouraged as it moves very quickly. Please note that they only accept CASH! No credit cards.

Enjoyed this place before so came back. That certainly tells a story. Great value and great food. Sat at the bar where you can watch the cooking. Really recommend the dumplings and the paitan. Only thing to remember is it is cash only. Easy on your own, but could be a pain for a larger group. Worth it though.

Walked down here after visiting the top of the rock. Worth the wait, worth walking any amount of steps. Best noodles I have had ever. Try and sit at the bar if you can

Great vibe (bustling) Fast service Cold beer Spicy Ramen Amazing noodles Tasty broth What else is there?

Consistently good quality. Throwback playlist, rushed service, cramped space, but entirely worth it for the chicken paitan.

First, let’s talk about the food quality. It used to be quite good but I noted the quality has dropped substantially in the past two years or so (while the price has increased substantially). Second, the service is normal but the servers are very aggressive in asking for more tips. They even say there is a minimum percentage of tipping that customers must pay (which there is no mention at anywhere in the shop). So don’t expect they let you leave the restaurant without paying tips that can satisfy your server. For the price and food and service quality, there are many better alternatives for ramen in NYC. This place is overrated and not worth the visit anymore.

The broth is salty and strangely thick (like a thin packet gravy). The noodles are chewy. The basic chicken ramen has cold shredded chicken on it and a few green onion like things. It’s flavours more American than japan. I suspect a good quantity of MSG as well...

My favorite ramen joint in Manhattan, fresh noodles, flavourful broth and very reasonable prices!! 👌

I read about this place in my Lonely Planet guide and, as I was nearby, I give it a try. Very good! The standard Ramen that I ordered was very tasteful and I had it ready ina couple of minutes. The local is tiny, so may be crowded in lunchtimes, but I was at 3pm and had no problem finding a chair. I can only recommend it.

I'm still thinking about this ramen, two weeks after I visited. My vegetable ramen was delicious -- the flavors were amazing -- and others in my party loved their meat-based dishes. This place is small, and by the time we left there was a line outside, but it's definitely worth the wait. I'll be back!

Not Totto Ramen location anymore.. it’s a different ramen shop called Toribro Ramen. Needs to be removed from Trip Advisor

Taste-wise, this was the best ramen I had outside of Japan. I went for the mega paitan and couldn't be happier. The atmosphere was also very nice, the staff very friendly and welcoming. There are 2 stores next to each other: one is cash only, the other does take cards. We went to the cash only one because that's the original place :)

I had eaten at the Midtown East location before and this year tried the West Side location which was equally good. Best veggie ramen in my experience.

Dirty place! a huge rat crossed the restaurant, leaving the kitchen and the workers pretended they did not see. I dropped my food and left.

This is an absolute hole in the wall. Five steps down from the sidewalk, long narrow ba, low ceiling, roosters on the bowls, menus, everything. The wait staff/hostess takes your order while you're still waiting to get in and the ramen is steaming in front of you moments after sitting down. The ramen is sublime. Only one level of spicy will clean your sinuses. Noodles are perfection, broth grows thicker and more viscous with every bite as the oils are released. Excellent sound track, super friendly servers. This is not a place to linger. Felt a little like I was in an episode of Girls. It is authentic, off the beaten track, legit ethnic food - the sort really only available in a metropolis like NYC. I'll certainly be back.

It is not economic, little variety and bad. they force you to leave tip, not comfortable place to eat

We were lucky to catch this place on a Monday lunch with no line. Now that we know the quality of the food, we would definitely stand ion line again to eat here. We had the Pork Buns and the Mega and Miso Ramen. All were excellent. Portions large, we could not finish for lunch. Cash only. Service is FAST.

We popped in around 10pm, on a Thursday night, and grabbed two bar seats, without waiting. Our backs faced the entry doors and the cold air painfully leaked in from the outside. Wait for other seats or keep your jacket on. This ground/subbasement level ramen bar has a mall seating area in the back. The bar area feels genuinely Japanese, but one won't come across the typical, ramen selection, payment station machine one would see in similar establishments in Japan. This necessitates waiter service. After quickly scanning the menu we opted for roast pork belly buns and the cucumber as appetizers. The buns were the tastiest we've ever had, thought the cucumber didn't stand out. My friend enjoyed his miso ramen, while I opted for the tsukemen. The dipping sauce/soup was flavorful but wasn't as thick as I prefer. The free refill on ramen was nice, but I didn't like ice cold noodles. There were three servers darting about. My friend's glass of water wasn't refilled, even after making a request to a server. We decided to go with a smaller tip. One of the servers confronted us about the tip expectation in this restaurant. We both thought that was entirely rude and unbecoming of the sever and we won't be back to this place.

Felt like you are in Japan!! This tiny restaurant offers warm atmosphere, value for money delicious meals and creates warm and exotic feelings both on tongue and soul! Open kitchen offers view to the chefs while preparing your meal. Highly recommended!

Second place one at this place (remember to bring cash!) Very busy and loud tonight. But that is not the issue I had. Broth was excellent. So were the noodles. It was the meat I had some issues with. A bit tough. Granted, I’d been talking all day so my jaws were tired. Meet was very chewy. Tasty but chewy. Still recommend this place.

Got the chicken ramen. The chicken was dried out and barely chewable, the broth was disgusting. Salt and more salt in what was supposedly a chicken broth. They skimped on the noodles too. I guess after a few bites I didn’t really care. I sadly had to throw it out.

Our first stop after checking into our hotel in Midtown and we were not disappointed. The ramen (get ‘the bestseller’) was as amazing as last time we were in town. We added a few pork buns to our order and were blown away by how good they were. The wasabi mayo is delicious!

I really miss those good old days in NYC. Definitely my favorite ramen in town. And I would like to recommend Pork buns. You deserve to have a try!

Best ramen. Good ambiance and friendly service. Will return again once back to New York for sure. A Most visit

Wanted some hot soup on a cold night. This place was lively and the food was great. The aoup had a thick broth but when I added the hot sauce it was terrific.

After a long day in new york, we absolutky wanted to try this place, we walked 3km to go to this restaurant, we went to this place. At 10 P.M. all table were taken so we sat at the bar where the chef prepared food. Shows how good and popular this little joint is. Nice young guys/girls energetically working and trying to please customer. All the food ordered were amazing. We recommend this place

My 11 year old daughter & I stumbled upon this place when strolling around the city (I quickly searched Trip Advisor for noodles since my daughter is a fan). It was literally the BEST Ramen we have eaten in our lives! So much so that this is my first Trip Advisor Review. I felt obligated to share our amazing experience. RUN do not walk to Totto. It’s cash only so be prepared for that. It’s a tiny place too but we walked right in & had no wait. It was a weeknight at about 7:00.

I was craving some ramen on our visit to NYC so we decided to pop in. Let me just say that I am still thinking about and craving this ramen! It was delicious. The pork was so tender. I almost wish I had gone back a second time in my three day weekend! Big portions. Much better than any we have back home.

If you are staying or about in the Time Square area Totto’s is a must visit. Be prepared to wait for up to 30mins for a table at peak times- but don’t worry it’s worth it! Definitely try the kimchee and the pork bun! The Mega Ramen is good but only buy if you are very hungry as the portion is quite large. Recommended

This is the real deal. We sat at the bar and so the dishes prepared in front of us. These guys know there are. It was like watching a performance and that eat it! The place is full of good vibes and the food gives you a buzz inside. Just what we needed in cold evening.

My first time having ramen so not much to compare it to, but I thought the food was great. It is cash only so make sure you bring some, but overall great food.

In NYC late at night, most restaurants have a little wait. This one was a little wait, but it was worth it. They don't have interactive waiters, but you get your food quick and it's time to go. Our ramen was excellent and it was very cheap in NY terms. I would go back, but maybe for a daytime snack.

The tight quarters and sometimes long wait times are well worth it for some of the silkiest, most decadent ramen (chicken based) broth that your Grandma wishes she could make, along with some of the best ramen noodles in the City. Their rich, slow cooked and creamy chicken broth is second to none, and comes with a delicious, wavy golden noodle, and topped off with either crispy chicken breast and confit chicken thighs or, pulled chashu pork and tender pork belly chunks - along with scallions and sweet raw chopped onions. Make sure that you add their specialty boiled egg, slow cooked in Japanese rice vinegar for a flavor bomb experience and Totto's proprietary chili oil with garlic, onion, shrimp and scallops) -- all the flavors blend together amazingly well - and the oil adds a kick you won’t find anywhere else.

I will be dreaming about this ramen for months (and I've been to Japan). Exquisitely delicious. There is usually a lineup but it moves quickly and efficiently. Someone took our order while we were in line so by the time we were seated our food was ready. Also, this ramen is worth waiting for. Cash only. Love, love loved it.

I LOVE Ramen and I have to say that I've tried quite a lot ramen places in the city, but Totto is the best by far. Their broth is perfect, noodles are perfect, pork is amazing! I mostly go for their spicy ramen or my favorite is their special curry ramen. It's amazing! The flavor of the ramen itself is everything!

We make a point to stop at great ramen establishments whenever we travel because we love it so much. We were so disappointed with this place that we left 1/3 of the way through our meal. There are many better options in NY

I love a good soup on winter so it is the perfect fit for New York... love their soups and recommend a visit to one of their branches. They have a few some based on chicken and o e more traditional pork based

I love this please, you feel you are in the Shinjuku district. the only sever the best and the best is what they are

Went to the Hell's Kitchen location. Small but cozy spot -- easy walk from Times Square. Quick service. Delicious chicken kara-age appetizer & chicken paitan ramen. Reasonably priced.

Excellent food. We started off with some kimchi and bang bang chicken, then on to two bowls of Ramen. Absolutely fantastic. Definitely our favorite on our trip.

By far, this is the best ramen I've ever had. The ramen is delicious with thick broth and you can add chili to increase your level of spicyness. I also order shewmai, kind of dim sum,but these just so so.

Rude service, mandatory pre cagrged tip, soyp temperature warn, food just ok. Great flavor of the chicken soup Base though. There are better options for ramen

Love ramen? This is the place. Small place, always packed but the ramen is awesome. Tried the veggie ramen, my fave, and miso ramen with chicken. They have small bites too like duck buns and seaweed salad

Very delicious, hygienic and fresh food. Good essence of Japanese cuisine. Had a great time at dinner.

we had to queue at 6pm. it was a bit cramped and the lines were long but the ramen is definitely worth it on a cold day in new york

Totto Ramen is a unique place where you can have a really great time and a lovely dinner, the ramen is one of the best I have ever tried. The place is always crowded so you should arrive early or be patient to wait for a table. Prices are fair.

We were waiting for about 20 minutes in front of the restaurant with another 10 people. Waitress will took your order while you are waiting and when you get your table or bar place, you will be served. I had feeling that somebody is chasing me to eat faster and to go (although the waitress said that we can sit as long as we want..while taking our dishes as soon as we finished) But the miso soup and ramen were very delicious and worth the wait. It was very interesting to seat and eat at the bar, because you can watch how they prepare all the dishes just in front of you. I recommend this restaurant If you have enough time and not too hungry to wait.

Tried the Spicy Paitan with pork. Absolutely delicious. Rich and complex broth, melt in your mouth pork. Chewy noodles that hold the broth extremely well. Subtract one star for the temperature of the broth which was warm rather then hot. In my book this place is better than Ippudo and Momofuku.

Whichever option of their ramen bowls you chose you needed to select which meat.....? Although you could have pork ...the corporate logo each cook wore proudly displayed was a sort of cockerel....sending the clear message their culinary meat basis was not roasted pork (“ authentic “), but .. chicken ! Whaat! I naturally wanted the classic pork ..which should’ve been oven-roasted - but being seated at the bar I could clearly see the monstrous act of the chef blasting slices of cold pre-cooked pork with...a culinary blowtorch!!!!!!!! Did this guy who apparently thinks he’s a half-decent ramen cook seriously believe this would attractively replicate the classic taste of juicy, rich roasting ? No! It was singed & dry ...THATS WHAT IT WAS! Then the matter of the all- important bone broth ....well it was ‘thin’, & not definitively smooth rich & unctuous as good pork ramen broth should indeed be.... Silly price-gouging like charges of $1 for a couple of the obligatory toasted seaweed sheets AS EXTRAS only made this already over- priced IN-authentic nonesense an even greater rip-off . I was surprised the majority of diners present were Asian, which would usually indicate one could expect a satisfying outcome...so either they were American-Asians of stunning ignorance ...or so desperate for a ramen fix they’ll take anything plonked in front of them! Give this a wide berth ..& cash only ? Yeah, in retrospect you could see the disappointment surely coming.

This is a hole in the wall. Cash only. Maybe sits 30 people in here and there is always a line. Sit at the bar and watch the experts in the kitchen spilling ramen water everywhere and slinging noddles in to your bowl in record time. My wife and I had steamed buns and 2 bowls of ramen within 5 minutes...incredible! The ramen is life changing and is terrible in the same breath becuase it ruins all of your ramen orders for the rest of your life until you come back here or NYC. What a great place and if this place was in AZ, I would eat there everyday.

Order a steaming hot ramen meal after a day of touring NYC and you won’t be disappointed. Cash only at this restaurant. Fast and friendly.

Fantastic ramen. Good portion too. Small place so it's best to eat & go as people are waiting to enter. Had the spicy chicken ramen & it was just spicy enough.

Ramen is outstanding! Fills you up!! Not too expensive you get more for what you pay!!! The service is friendly as well

It's good chicken ramen (and that's important to note - its chicken broth, and if that's not your thing, this will not be your thing). Mind you, "good" is a complement, in that most of the chicken ramen in NYC is mediocre at best. Then again, the cha-shu (pork! Get the pork!) is seriously stellar, and very very correctly fatty... And yeah, the noodles are equally awesome. So, go,and enjoy... Lastly, do *not* get the gyoza... (btw, like all good ramen joints, if you have to wait, it won't be for too long)

Read the reviews and was ready for good duck and rude wait staff, armed with a smile we ventured in...they were indifferent but not nearly as impolite as advertised. We worked on them and may have conjured a small smile from one of the guys as we left... Food was fair..there were only 3 of us including a tween, alas 4 is the minimum magic number for the duck...and the tween is a veggie so, no duck. General Tso chicken and a recommended orange beef (fried...) - large portions, food was fine but PDH ain't cheap. Mee Noodles 2nd Av/ 49th while nowhere near as good as it once was in it's old location, is far more reasonable - and the food quality comparable, actual meat probably better at PDH, sauces at Mee might be better....Go with a big group try the duck maybe you will fare better.

I've been living in New York City for over 30 years. I have walked past Totto Ramen on 51st Street in Hell's Kitchen many times. There is always a line out the door and I don't do lines. Last night I was visiting friends in the hood and walked by this restaurant -- there was no line and I saw one seat available at the counter. Now I understand why they are always busy. The ramen noodles with chicken and vegetables really hit the spot on this evening as the temperatures outside began to drop. The broth is flavorful, the vegetables are fresh and the staff at the restaurant are very kind and professional. This place is tiny but well-worth the food and experience. The prices will not drain your wallet. I will return!

The soup is made in front of you. Sat at the bar tonight and watched 2 chefs prepare our dinner. From the seaweed salad to gyoza and the mega paitan. Food is delicious. The pork that was added in the soup was torched up that added the flavor in the soup. Price was reasonable. $20 per person with a glass of wine or soda.

Cannot brag on the miso pork ramen enough! The place was clean, the service was good, and the line to get in went quickly. Absolutely a must eat - especially on a cold, rainy day!

I really wanted to try Ramen and had read great reviews on this place. Feeling jetlagged and in need of some fresh food we decided to give it a try. Althought it doesnt look much from the outside and inside is a bit dreary the food was fresh, filling and good value. The service was good and friendly and I would certainly go back again

Heard great things & thought we would give it a try since we were walking distance away. When we got there, we were seated right away. It's quite a tight space, & tables are next to each other. After about 20 minutes, there was already a long wait. Ordered Spicy Paitan+2 extra toppings. It was okay, not really spicy, total $17 just for ramen. Broth was not super impressive. Noodles were a bit firm Also tried appetizer of chicken breast with some side veggies, not spicy either---just salty. Not sure if I would stand in line for the food.

Got to be here thanks to TripAdvisor recommendations, and it was really worth it! Delicious ramaan and nice service.

There was a queue for this place. After waiting about 45 mind got our seats. It’s a tiny restaurant that sits about 25 people. We ordered a few different types and also a bowl of rice with pork - all dishes are delicious.

We had our lunch there one afternoon before they closed the kitchen at 3pm. The noodle tasted nice, the soup was great. But, for me the best part is the spicy oil. You feel the chili aroma right away. Very nice seasoning! We also tried the beef tongue meatball and that was good too.

Simply fantastic ramen. Period. OK, a little more detail: We had the tonkotsu shio ramen and this had the thickest, richest, umami-est broth I've ever had. You could literally chew this pork and chicken-based broth. The noodles were excellent - firm body and texture which held on - and held up - to this uber broth. In addition to traditional toppings (e.g. nori, menma, cha shu), they also included diced raw onion - which I was a little hesitant about, but it worked perfectly with the rich savory broth. The cha shu pork was good, comprising of generous tender slices (we always order extra) that provided that fatty luscious mouth-feel. Totto was also one of the few ramen shops that offered a vegetarian ramen (my wife is a non-meat/poultry eater) so that was very nice as it allowed her to enjoy a hot meal along with the rest of us. (The veggie ramen, however, was only okay in her opinion, although it looked quite appetizing with plenty of vegetables and a mushroom-based broth. But what can I say? It's not really true ramen without that meat-based broth ... ). We also shared some appetizers of a pickled cucumber salad and a seaweed salad. Both were quite tasty and well-executed. Get there at opening time if you want to avoid a long wait. We got there 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line, albeit not too bad. Nevertheless, for our party of 5, it still took about half-hour wait time as Totto is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, unprepossessing, dark, and narrow, and seating for parties larger than two is very limited (the wait time for couples and singletons was reasonably quick). However, kudos to the cheerful staff who take names (but don't kick butt), keep you informed on your status, and will provide menus and take your orders ahead of time to keep things organized and moving. But despite Totto's physical short-comings, it serves up one hell of a noodle soup, well worth the wait!

This is a tiny place, where you will more than likely wait to be seated. You have to sign your name in at the little podium in the waiting area, and grab a menu. Someone will come and take your order so that it arrives as you sit down. We opted for the most popular Ramen ( the menu indicates is the most ordered, forgot the name). The broth was hearty, rich and had a subtle thickness. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the pork and other meats tender and perfectly seasoned. The minute we were done, someone came and took our plates and brought us the check. Understandably as there were at least 12 people waiting outside. The whole experience felt very rushed, but I guess if you want a fast Ramen and keep going, this is the place.

The place is very simple, the service is fast and they almost do not speak to you, as if in a rush all the time, when they only have 10 seats. Anyway, let's assume that's the asian way?!?! The Ramen is good, it comes out very fast, Very few varieties. I would just recommend it for a cheap, fast lunch.

Service was really nice and food 5/5! Recommend! It was our first meal at nyc and we are so happy that we find this place

Authentic ramen with tasty miso for just 14$. The place is tiny but with a friendly staff! 100% recommended!

We went here for a quick lunch... we arrived around 1.45 and got immediately a place. We ordered two bowls of ramen and got them after 5 minutes. The food was excellent! Really nice lunch!

We ran across this little place and decided to have a bite to eat - It was a great experience! The place is small and family run(I think), but the ramen and service is so very good! They are super friendly and quick! If you like Ramen, go here - you won't be disappointed!

The Ramen was quick, hot and delicious. You can personalize your bowl with lots of options. They do have the expectation that you are familiar with Ramen restaurants and know how/what to order. The waitstaff are busy and don’t tolerate the indecisive. Tables are shared so be prepared to sit with strangers, This is a very small place, claustrophobics beware! The music was very loud and quite offensive, full of swears and violent references. They did change to similar style but more family friendly lyrics when a family with young children came in, but I’m not sure if that was deliberate or coincidence.

The reviewer before me wrote: “I will be dreaming about this meal long after I return home”... I understand and agree. Holy smokes... I was fortunate to have some ramen/ soup left over to take home after our delicious meal, and purposely spread the leftovers out over two days to lengthen the enjoyment. I had the spicy ramen with pork and added corn and avocado... highly recommended. Delicious, fresh ingredients and ramen that is not mushy or overdone in a great broth... Unpretentious, affordable, quick and friendly service- what’s not to love?

I dropped by on a Satueday night around 6:30 PM and there wasn't a long queue yet. I also got lucky because I was going by myself which is why I got seated rather quickly. The place is packed but I kind of liked the business. The ramen itaelf tasted good but it isn't anything extraordinary in my opinion (and I had my fair share of ramen). The staff itself was nice and accomodating.

What a fun little hidden gem! Off the beaten path. Great for all ages. We got to sit at the bar and watch the guys work magic in a small space. Great staff, family friendly and fresh ramen!

Great ramen but it’s crowded and there is usually a long line. It’s better to either come earlier or later for dinner

We sat outside. Busy evneign but they maange the queue well. Helpful and smiley waitress. Foor good vlaue and very tasty.

Great place, very affordable prices for the Manhattan area. The staff was very kind and helpful, we ate very well and tried various ramen, all really excellent!

I had heard good things about this place. We got there at 11.15 to queue up and we’re the first ones there. Staff are unfriendly and abrupt but it didn’t surprise me. Starters were really tasty and the ramen itself was delicious. I’m not used to a chicken broth base but it was yummy. Going to be honest though, still isn’t my favourite ramen ever.... I am still searching.

Most ramen place are the same and yet you have to deliver something different to be called the best. The place has 18 capacity and with a party of 12 we certainly just expecting to fill-up after a long busy and tiring day. To our surprise, this one delivers the hype!!! Sumptuous ramen broth and just perfect toppings to complete a hearty meal.!!! 10tt0% ramen at it’s best. Perfect veggie ramen with little chicken topping. Try the chicken bunn too.

On a cold February day a bowl of ramen was just the thing for lunch. I had their best seller - chicken - and it was filling and tasty. Service was quick and attentive. The ramen was $14 (plus tax and tips).

I always like ramen and I am not new as a review contributors, as you would have noted. I have been going to TOTO Ramen for couple of years now. I would even make it all the way there and sometime queue for an hour for it. Granted you May want to make more money by increasing your price , which if I am not mistaken you increased near 20% within like 6 months, but unfortunately and disappointedly your quality dropped ! Worst, your server was rude and service nearly non existence!! All the servers eying were the tips.! Sad I don’t mind pay more but please provide back the quality of the food and be polite and nice ! Not worth it for the wait nor the appalling service! So sad that a good ramen shop turned south just like that!

Great way to end the day with a nice hearty bowl of ramen. Also good if you’re sick of the western or American styled foods.

Takoyaki was wonderful. Place is small but friendly. Service guy was so friendly and helpful. Maybe the place not convenient for families with children. But worth the visit.

We had a family lunch. The button line is that the food was very good and I would like to eat there again. The place is clean and they served quickly. The service could be a bit better, beside not smiling they had answered all our requests. The dishes were tasty and big.

Nothing fancy, went there 2 nights ago, really crowded since restaurant is really small and cramped. price and food is good. it's a great hole in a wall restaurant. they take cash only.

I found out about this place by reading a travel guide. Me and my girlfriend love noodles so I was looking forward to going. This place is amazing. I am bold enough to say that this was probably my most favourite meal of my life. There was a small que when we arrived but that is because it is a small venue but it you need to stay because it is worth the wait. Its based in the basement of a house but that makes this place extra special. The atmosphere is really buzzing and when I went it was full of locals and international customers. I went for the best selling noodles ($18) and it is a massive portion and made to a high quality. You must visit this special place if you go to New York.

These guys really pay attention to their making of the ramen. Soup is unlike the most of the others. It has a rich yet not oily taste.

We took 3 totta paitan to go tonight, it was excellent! The welcome was top! We will come back for dinner!

Nice little restaurant. The waitress was polite and the food was good. Everything was reasonably priced and the restaurant had a good atmosphere.

We visited in august. The ramen is good with a cheap price. Typical Japanese locatio. Near time Square.

Cold New York evening and a sure way to warm you up is to visit Totto Ramen and order the special a mixture of Pork and Chicken just delightful filling, warming and authentic and some amazing pork buns

I stumbled across this gem of a joint totally by accident and it was very much worth it. There was a line outside, I put my name down on the list (don't forget to do that) and when the lady realised I was eating along I got a seat straight away. Might be hard to eat here as big groups two people is fine, might be a long wait. The place is bustling with noise, greetings and action from the chefs, this place is tiny and busy right up my street. Sitting by the kitchen counter was great seeing the chefs work and they really seemed to enjoy their jobs. I ordered Spicy Paitan and asked for no bean sprouts which arrived super fresh, hot and utterly yummy. Totally worth stopping by here. I also ordered the kimchi and it really was good. With tip it cost just over $20+. I would absolutely go back and recommend for a quick stop, authentic lunch or dinner.

We came here after going to Ippudo the day prior and what a difference! The broth is quite rich from the use of chicken and immediately hits you at first taste. We only ordered the original so can't speak to the other flavors. The noodles' texture was perfectly cooked to aldente and stayed aldente through the meal. A few nitpicks: wish the broth was hotter, it was very warm but not hot. Less green and white onion in the bowl - was overwhelming with onion. Lastly, egg was just a simple hard boiled egg, wish the yolk was softer like most other places and more flavor in the egg white. I wouldn't pay to add an egg again if we came again. We also ordered a plate of seasoned cucumber, which was a nice light and crispy alternative to have compared to the super rich ramen.

Good review so I went. Not the best Japanese Ramen. It was cold in NYC but I had to drink a liter of very cold water after eating as the soup was so heavily seasoned. They will also decide how much tip to give them or they will run after you!

Small place, friendly staffs, good and tasty ramen. Our group is full of ramen lovers and having been trying ramen all over the world, we must say this Totto Ramen is a place to visit. Highly recommended.

Took my BiL for his first bowl of Ramen to this great little restaurant. He is now hooked. Great ambiance at the counter top watching the chefs at work and cute little jars of saki. Can't wait to go back. Take cash (there is anATM outside the door) and allow 30-60 minutes wait, but definitely worth it. Makes me all warm and toasty just thinking about it.

I love Ramen and Totto’s good. It’s popular for it’s very good Ramen. For me to get the best rate a lot more factors (ambiente, service, food presentation, taste...) are relevant. We paid $140 for the food and gave a tip of $9. While leaving, the waiter came to our table and asked if the tipp we gave was correct. In the beginning we didn‘t understand what he‘s trying to say. My mother in law then asked if it‘s not ok. He couldn‘t really answer the question. He just said: „For New York it‘s not normal, usually the tipp is 15%” - so $6 were missing. We were shocked that the waiter requested for more tipp.

Small neighborhood joint. Staff was fast, friendly, and efficient. Neighborhood was nice, walked here from Broadway. Food was simply exceptional. Best ramen I've ever had. Can't say enough how delicious it was.

I had the miso based with tonkatsu and thin noodles and it was good. They have a good selection of ramen on the menu.

Visiting NYC and needed a Ramen fix on a chilly day. Totto Ramen kicked ass!!! Excellent ramen, fresh kimchi and priced right for the quality.

The Ramen was terrific! Great NYC experience. Cash only. The place is tiny but run so well they are able to serve quite a few people. They take your order before seating you, so your food arrives pretty quickly. Be prepared to share a table or sit at the bar. There are only a few tables for 2. We were there pretty late and definitely brought the average age up, but all the staff were warm and friendly. The whole place had a convivial vibe. There are so many restaurants in NYC, but this one is worth repeating!

Went here for a brunch. Tried the Spicy Paitan with Chicken. Soup was very flavorful and rich. Portion size was just perfect! This is not a very big place and they don’t take reservation either. So plan accordingly.

Such a cool vibe. Lucky we went and didnt have to wait. Awesome ramen and good service. Highly recommend!

We very much enjoyed our dinning experience at Totto last week. Just make sure you have cash on hand as they do not take credit cards. The service was fast, friendly, and authentic. The ramen was fresh and very tasty.

We have been eating at TR for many years and it is consistently brilliant. Everyone in the family loves it. I’m not saying it’s the best noodle house in NYC but it’s so good I have little incentive to try others. It’s small and cozy, fairly basic decor, you might even say basic/down and dirty but friendly, quick service, a great laid back atmosphere, very reasonably priced. A NY must.

This little restaurant is very well organised and efficient . When we got there it was really crowded, but we’ve been served in half an hour. The location itself it’s not that great, but the food is absolutely delicious : I advice to get the mega one just if you’re starving! Over the top it’s a pleasure looking at the chefs while they’re cooking . Very good price and only cash payment.

I was hungry after a Broadway show and decided to try this popular ramen spot. I arrived around 10:15 and was lucky to snag the last seat at the counter. The restaurant is a sliver of a space and obvious popular. All of the seats were filled and soon after I arrived, several more hungry diners appeared at the steps to the door and quickly added their names to the wait list. As a newbie to this spot, I opted for the classic chicken paitan version of ramen with pork char su. I wanted to try the spicy version but my stomach had been upset earlier in the day, so I decided to be safe. I started with the marinated Japanese cucumbers which were sliced, crunchy and had a nice, almost sweet flavor. The ramen arrived quickly and was very satisfying. The broth was lighter than other ramens that I have tried. The pulled pork char su was a good choice. Two large slices of pork were submerged in the broth. A side of nori and green scallions were in the bowl. The straight noodles were perfectly cooked. I was nestled between two diners who had different ramen options; both appeared spicy and looked very yummy. I will try the spicy version of a ramen the next time I come to the city. Service is fast and friendly with a quick turn around of diners. Bring cash; no credit cards are accepted.

We tried to go to the Totto on 52nd street for lunch on a Sunday. It was closed, and did not open until 4:00 p.m. Rather odd! So, we found there's another Totto on 51st street. We only had two bowls of ramen, no appetizers or anything, and paid nearly $40. Wow. For lunch at a ramen joint, that's a bit much. Still, this ramen was very flavorful and artfully crafted. I would probably go back, but I would have to find a way to get over my sticker shock first re the pricing.

Flavor of chicken in broth very strong. Pork meat way too fatty, the grease lingered on after a few spoonfuls. Egg tasted as ramen-y as any hard boiled egg fresh out of the boiling water. And they charge you $2 for hot sauce!! Even if you get the more costly $18 ramen. Pity to have gone out of my way to eat here.

This is a perfect example of a hole in the wall restaurant gem. It's a tiny place with lines out the door (Sunday night dinner). But they move quickly and efficiently. We ordered our food almost as soon as we put our names on the waiting list. We waited about 25 minutes on the street. Once seated, dinner was served in 5 minutes or less. We sat at the bar- right in front of the 2 chefs who were preparing all the meals. It was great to watch how the food was prepared! The food was delicious!! Drinks were refilled quickly. Reasonably priced for NYC. I fed 4 adults for $75- including the tip. I am so glad we found this place. We'd definitely visit again.

My son and I were in New York for the Big East tournament during the corona virus scare. Tournament was canceled so we had nothing to do but explore. This is by far the best ramen either of us had ever had, and I had lived in Korea for a year! We enjoyed it so much, that we ate here twice. Be sure you’ve got cash as they don’t take credit cards. Will definitely come here again next time we visit New York.

Excellent ramen in a friendly atmosphere. Ate there with my husband and son; neither was enthusiastic when they saw the tight seating and heard that the wait was 45 minutes. They quickly became fans once their ramen was served! Broth was best I’ve had and meat and veggies were ample. Regular bowl was really more than any of us could finish! Service was quick and very friendly and price was very reasonable, less than $15 each even with add ins!

Nice location, short walking distance from Times Square about 10-15 mins. Authentic ramen, good reasonable price. Fast service, dan dont forget “cash only” restaurant.

Chicken\pork ramen with perfect noodles! Such amazing comfort food... The place is small and authentic, you might need to wait in line a little bit to enter but it’s worth the wait!!! This ramen is SO GOOD

I've visited this ramen shop few times and always amazed how nice and smiling are the staff. The food is amazing especially the fatty and juicy Pork bun! You have to try it!! The only thing that I still have to get used to is the right ammount of ""courtesy tips"" which it happens that I've been asked already twice to give more ending my bills to at least another 15-20$ more which I think it's very not nice to come back and ask for more... I do give tips but based also on what I can afford... So I would give minus 5 just because of this... But the rest OMG you this place is a must!

We came in at 4:30pm for a quick bite, to put off our hunger for a few more hours until dinner. As we were welcomed, the hostess kindly let us know they needed close at 5pm for their staff dinner, and re-open around 5:30. But that was fine for us. We shared the vegetarian ramen (we are omnivores - it was delicious). The ramen was Al Dente, as advertised. The broth was super as well - great all by itself. It is cash only. And each person needs to order at least 1 item.

Chances are there will be a line when you go. The food is absolutely worth the wait and you'll leave belly full and satisfied! You'll need to check in when you get there and order your food when they are close to seating you. Once you're seated it's only moments until you receive your meal since the food is prepared fresh and fast. Enjoy!!

This is a must try while in NY. Authentic Japanese ramen. The place it self is not much but the food is amazing. Friendly staff. We will definitely be back!

I've been coming here for years and it's always good. It's all good, really :). It's often busy, but it's worth the wait.

Reasonably priced very good ramen. The place has been packed both times that I have been here. Both times the staff were awesome. Extremely friendly and polite and very attentive. They take your order before you sit down to speed things up so your food arrives quickly after you are seated. But we were not rushed either time to finish our meals, and they made space for five at a table and worked around us which was not easy for them as it is a tiny place. Flavor wise the mega has an edge over the regular paitan if you have the appetite to finish it.

I am sure every review here mentions that there are two Totto Ramen shops, side by side. We ate at the Totto Ramen Next Door noodle shop, because it has a pork broth, which we prefer, and they accept credit cards. The pork broth was super tasty, and the noodles and pork were very good too. This is a small restaurant, with only 18 seats in a communal style. The pork broth side has shorter lineups, but I don't get why. This place should be just as popular.

Loved this place a lot. Recommend by a friend and it didn't disappoint. Short wait for tables as no reservations but sooo worth it. Minimal decor but it's all about the food. Fresh and bursting with flavor this is real Asian food prepared to order in front of you. Can't recommend it enough for the price.

Ramen is my favorite dish after Curry , and I've eaten it in many places in Japan, this one was one of the best I've eaten

Had the spicy paitan. Very nice broth, the pork was excellent, fast service and reasonably priced. Definitely worth stopping by.

Read up on this place beforehand and decided we would try real ramen for the first time here. It's small....like REALLY SMALL (we sat at a shared table) and they are cash only but the food was good and the service was great ! Would def return next time in town.

This place is so good. It’s tiny and crowded, but the food is incredible and the staff is kind. If there’s a wait, it won’t be long, because service is really fast. Be aware that it’s cash only! They have signs about that everywhere, but it’s good to plan ahead.

Totto Ramen is not only a delicious ramen food experience, it's also a cultural experience that you must have when in Manhattan! Take a seat at the counter right in front of the bubbling cauldrons and take your time to enjoy the best ramen in town!

For all ramen lovers, this is an address not to be missed. Contrary to some opinions we went there around 2 p.m. and there were not many people and therefore no noise.

I have eaten at several different ramen places in NYC and this is my hands down favorite. From the noodles, to the broth- its my favorite ramen and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place if comparing choices of NYC ramen.

Totto Ramen in Hell's Kitchen offers a solid dining experience. The atmosphere is lively and casual, perfect for a quick meal. The ramen was decent, with a flavorful broth and well-cooked noodles, though nothing extraordinary. Service was efficient, and the staff were friendly. Overall, it’s a good spot for a satisfactory bowl of ramen, but it didn't particularly stand out.

The place was packed when I visited. While I enjoyed the Ramen, the broth is a chicken paitan soup, which I found greasy. The presentation is however lovely and the service fast. It's definitely value for money.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. The ramen was wonderful! The staff walked us through the menu since it was our first time. They were very attentive and helpful.

This is an authentic Japanese ramen bar. Literally just a counter and a couple tables. Cash only. Ramen with many options. Including veg options. There is a quick turnaround because they are pretty good at the flow.

After seeing Come from away (Excellent show) we went to this place. At 10 P.M. there was a line up! Shows how good and popular this little joint is. Nice young guys/girls energetically working and trying to please you. Loved their Ramen noodles. Try their chicken....delicious. My spicy Ramen was great. Will try other dishes next time.

First discovered the place 2 years ago and now I always make sure to include this amazing in my culinary visits. Spicy pork ramen is delicious and so is the porc bao.

Great meal with the family! We each got ramen bowls. It was to our surprise there was two separate shops right next to each other - one serving exclusively chicken broth, the other serving pork (both serve vegetarian broth). We went to the pork broth serving one. I’m assuming with any religious dietary restrictions the separation is meant to accommodate - great idea in my opinion if that is the case. Nice staff and really fast service! There seemed to be a line for the next door shop (the one that serves chicken). If you can eat at the pork broth serving one I recommend it - same dishes and appetizers just with pork broth! There was enough seating in he section we were in for about 18 people - depending on how busy this may not be the place for large groups. Each ramen bowl was roughly $10-$14, a dollar extra for spicy sauce. The vegetable ramen comes with avocado, which was the only odd thing about any of the dishes. My family thought it was a good price considering all of the food in the bowl (we all were so hungry so I missed taking pictures of the ramen bowls). Any extras for the ramen (such as an extra egg, tofu, noodles, or toppings) were about a dollar or so more. There were tofu noodles for those on a diet - they advertise they are only 12.5 calories ($3 extra). No one in my family ordered these but it’s good to share. My family also decided to get appetizers. Very good, great flavor and portions. Kimchi was great ($4) and pork buns (each sold separately) were delicious as well. One of my family members wanted a really plain ramen (no garnish just egg and meat) and they easily adapted to the request! Considering what most of the reviews were saying I figured this place would be pretty affordable. It is to an extent but if you get a lot of appetizers or personalize the ramen bowls with extras then it can reach (with a family of ~4) $80! The food was definitely delicious but just make sure you’re not going overboard with all the good food since the sum of it all could be more pricey than expected from a ramen shop.

I had been recommended by a friend, as well as being recommended by Lonely Planet. Small place a little hidden in Hell's kitchen, Excellent ramen, fast service. Frequented by New Yorkers

This little tightly ramen place super busy even around 2 pm, still a short line waiting outside the door, however, after the mega ramen bowl served, kind of disappointed of my late lunch, too salty & too much fat in the soup, also the place filthy too, will be hesitate to return next time !

My kids, age 15 and 12, and I walked here from The Belvedere Hotel after flying in from Los Angeles. It’s about a 15 min walk and we arrived at the restaurant early evening. We all ordered the miso chicken paitan. Mine was the spicy miso paitan. Paitan refers to a broth based on a chicken infused/flavor broth rather than pork flavor/infused broth sometimes referred to as tonkatsu broth or pork bone flavored broth. In Los Angeles tonkatsu style is the more common broth found. The broth at Totto Ramen was flavorful as was the noodles which were also thick. The toppings included green onions, seaweed, and char siu pork slices. The pork slices were good but not as thick as you might see in ramen restaurants in Los Angeles. The only disappointing thing with my ramen is that they didn’t mix the spicy sauce into the ramen. They served me a small dish of what looked like sriracha sauce on the side. The restaurant itself is small and much of the seating is at counter like tables. The service was fast but the server did not seem happy serving us. A smile and how are you would’ve gone a long way for some weary travelers. Overall, the ramen hit the spot after the long plane flight.

Great place for quick and tasty ramen. There might be a line outside but it goes fast. They'll take your order while waiting so the service goes quickly. The dishes are generous.

I LOVED this place!!! Very quaint and tiny restaurant with bar seating and a few tables for quick eating. The ramen was excellent along with the little banh mi sandwiches with duck. But more importantly the staff were so energetic and fun. I had a smile on my face the whole time I was there. I can't wait to go back on my next trip. This will definitely be a stop every time we come to NY!!!

I had a vegetarian Ramen at Totto Ramen, which is surely not as good as the non-veggie kind. Still, it was very flavorful, generous size and fresh. Service could be a bit more friendly but all in all, recommended!

First of all, there are TWO ramen restaurants side-by-side on W 52 street. One is Totto Ramen, the other is Totto Ramen Next Door. Don't be panic, the latter is not stealing the name or fame from the former. Both are owned by the same company. Second, there is usually a long line in front of Totto, but a shorter or even no line at Totto Next Door. The fact is, Totto serves ramen in chicken broth which is what it's famous for, while Totto Next Door serves ramen in pork broth that is more traditional in Japanese cuisine. So which is better and why does Totto always have a longer line and bigger crowd as compared with Totto Next Door? Personally, I like pork broth better - I think it's richer and more flavorful (much umami), but I certainly won't dissuade you from getting in line to Totto. Just to clarify, except the difference in the broth, the rest of the menu from both restaurants (appetizers and drinks) are pretty similar. Third, both Totto and Totto Next Door are very tiny. Both have 3 communal tables that you have to sit elbow-to-elbow to next patrons. The open kitchen is in the back of the small restaurant, so don't be surprised to have your clothes smell like kitchen after you dine here.
Not that great!
To start with, the food tasted excellent. Everything looked delicious and the chefs really knew their way around the small kitchen. However... Within the hour both me and my girlfriend got really sick and had to get back to the hotel which luckily was not that far away. When paying our total was 45USD and we rounded up to 50 to includ tip. The waitress however did not accept the 5USD tip and demanded that we pay more. We experienced this as very rude since a tip is something you leave voluntarily and left the restaurant with a bad feeling.
