great for a quick tasty lunch

By retiredguy2014 |

needed to get a quick lunch as we were going to the tenement museum and had a tour start time. stopped here for a misticanza salad and a chicken cacciatora. both were made fresh and were very tasty. nice little place, good food

very tasty but the coffee is average

By occasional_typo |

We stumbled across this place while wandering Orchard St galleries. Very tasty combinations and if the portions looks small, don't worry they will fill you up. However, the only coffee on offer was stovetop coffee which didn't really do it for us so went elsewhere.

Delicious

Excellent!

This place was fantastic! Pita pockets were made fresh and the meatball was to die for! Would highly recommend!

Horrible, stay away

By Gigi M |

The waiter Hary C. was extremely rude and horrific. I asked him, if there were any juices on the menu. He responded "this is not that type of place if you know what I mean". I've never experienced this type of BIGOTED behavior. For someone who is supposed to provide customer service, he did none of that. The whole time, he made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I did email corporate and they gave me a refund. I had to follow up with them just for that. Please stay away from this horrible place.

the McDonalds version of a real Roman trattoria

By KVerstrepen |

Disappointing is an understatement. Despite the promise of authentic Roman street food, this place has zero authenticity and is only suited for visitors that like fake marketing and have never actually experienced the real deal. The dishes are indeed inspired by Roman trattorias (fried artichoke, arancini, a few pasta dishes), but the food is average at best - like a McDonalds version of a good burger. Similarly, they portray themselves as a wine bar, but have a very limited, uninspired list of overpriced mediocre wines. There are three reds by the glass, of which only the primitivo (misspelled on the menu 🄲) was mildly interesting - but that one was ā€œsold outā€ so I took the Buondonno Chianti which was not exactly a good representation of what Sangiovese can taste like (21 usd for a glass - bottle costs about 25 in a store). The point is: there’s waaaay better wines even at that price point, and a true, knowledgeable Italian owner would have the pride and knowledge to select one of those. As they do in Roman trattorias. Service was by young kids, they did their best - although my order of a ā€œpolloā€ (chicken; was labeled as pollo on the menu so it was not me being snobbish wanting to show off my Italian) trapizzini was misinterpreted as ā€œpolpoā€ (meatball). Not holding that against the waiter, but it goes to prove my point of it being the US - Disney version of the real deal. To end with a positive note- the polpo was quite ok!

Great for a casual, quick bite

By TheSecretVagabond |

We ate in Rome at Il Sorpasso and loved it. The people there told us Trapizzino opened on Orchard Street in the city so we had to try it. This casual, comfortable spot is on the corner of Orchard and Rivington. Tables are close together. Service is friendly. I enjoyed a salad, the polpetta al sugo (meatball) Trapizzino, and the formaggio plate. Each was delicious. My bill was under $20. If you’re gluten-free this isn’t the best spot for you, unless you want a drink and small salad. The coffee is good and there’s a decent wine selection. We’ll be back.

Ohhhh yesss! European service in American. It's absolutely awesome.

By Travelingwookie1 |

Ohhhh yesss! European service in American. It's absolutely awesome. I was traveling solo and in my first 48 hours. This was the first one restaurant that actually engaged. I applaud that. The staff were the best I encountered in New York. Having eating trapizzino in Milan and Rome. I can confirm this place is just as good! Missing the warm Italian sunshine, but then again, I did visit in February. If you haven't tried it before or have had it before. Add trapizzino to your wish list for NYC.

Poor service and forgettable food

By Erik L |

The service staff was nonchalant and did not make us feel welcome. The food was mediocre. If you’re looking for a good italian restaurant in NYC, I would not recommend this one.

Nice Surprise

By iluvbeaches |

Stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. The kale salad with garlic anchovies dressing was awesome. As was the olive medley. The eggplant trapizzini sandwich was delicious. Tasty filling wrapped in warm freshly baked bread. Liked having Peroni on draft. No wait and friendly staff. A pleasant surprise.

Overcharged my credit card, can’t get anyone to fix it

By KaleighVanderKamp |

Went in with a group and had a great time, unfortunately when I looked at my credit card the next day, I had been charged $120 for a $30 dollar split bill. We all had been over charged so we called the restaurant and they said that they’d send over the receipt and eventually, begrudgingly, said that they would fix the mistake. They took the $120 charge back and then charged the $30 bill and an additional $70 that shouldn’t have been there. Called a few times and never got a hold of anyone so I called my credit card company and disputed the charge. It’s a bummer that things ended like this, but even more ridiculous that I’m paying $70 extra dollars for what should have been a $30 dollar bill.

Great find! Delish

By Where2next629 |

It's Roman street food, specializing in bread pockets filled with various fillings, you can get chicken or squash or meatball. They also sell a type of rice ball. All fresh and delish. Good vegetarian options. Prices are very reasonable. I was full after a pocket and glass of vino! Favorited!

A great piece of Italian food in New York city

By gladiator428 |

Went to Trapizzino in a hot day and enjoyed the food the italian atmosphere and the excellent service provided. We have had just 2 meat balls and 2 Negroni drinks.. excellent is the verdict. 5 stars

A taste of authentic Italy!

By Shana M |

I dropped by here before I left for Italy, and they definitely capture the taste of that country! The prices are fair, the food was delicious, and the waiters were friendly. I enjoyed eating here.

Perfect for lunch or snack

By sidzkid |

Triangular bread pockets hold the tastiest home-style Italian fillings. The bread has a nice crust and is served hot. Fillings are hot or cold and include beef, chicken, veg or my favorite, veal tongue. Seasoning is spot-on. Perfect size for lunch or snack. Good assortment of beer, wine, soda and water. My husband and I loved it. We didn't order the risotto balls but the people sitting near us seemed to enjoy them.

Whow!

This is amazing place, the only place serving this stunning food and taste of it is so good I can not find words. They bake their own bread. Fabolous staff 😊

Very disappointing

By Aimee G |

The service was good but the food was terrible. It may have been one of the worst meals I have had in NYC. The aperol spritz did not have bubbles. The waiter changed it various times but it was still bad. The meatballs and arancini were dry and didn’t have a lot of flavor. The caccio e Pepe sauce was runny and clumpy and just not good. The pizza pockets were better but still not great. You could tell the dough was good but the filling was not. I was so excited by the reviews I had read and was disappointed.

Amazing!!! And they also have supplƬ!!

By axecold |

I love this place, I tried it several times in Italy and I was super happy to find it in NYC. The Roman recipes they use for filling your trapizzino are amazing. Definitely recommended! And try supplƬ too. It’s freshly fried and great!

Lower East Side find - delicious food, geat Italian wine list and excellent service

By Clare S |

Loved this place. We had gotten up early and been travelling for hours so we were tired and probably being pretty vague - the server was really nice to us and made good suggestions. This place is very near the Russ and Daughters (for which there was a one and a half hour wait) and the food at Trapizzino's was so delicious I don't feel we missed out in the slightest - who knew a kale Caeser salad could taste that good. Also being New Zealand wine snobs we found the price and quality of wine in New York a bit challenging (although it is a great place for cocktails). Trapizzino's had a really good list of Italian wines and when we said ''can we have something red by the glass' (did I mention we were being a bit vague) the server made an excellent choice and discussed the wine with us.

Great addition

By Jcbach |

We stopped here for lunch yesterday and tried three trapizzinos, the eggplant, the oxtail and the chicken. All excellent. Great service and nice that they provide a carafe of water, especially on a hot summer day. We’ll be back to try the Suppli and enjoy a glass of wine or beer on tap.

Delizioso!

By WindsorTudor |

Stumbled onto Trapizzino quite by accident last weekend, and what a pleasant surprise - an authentic taste of Rome on the Lower East Side. My friend & I left an event that was more of a happy hour (sans food) @ around 8pm, and were seeking a cafe to grab a quick bite afterward. Trapizzino hit the spot - it's essentially pizza fillings served in a square-shaped sandwich...portion-perfect and a superb choice of both vegetarian and meat-centric choices. Reasonably priced as well, with a polite, helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely go back if in the immediate area.

Delicious Sandwiches! Wonderful Surprise!

By Reformer1509 |

My daughter and I were going to have to wait an hour at a nearby restaurant so we began to walk back to our hotel hungry and my daughter insisted that we try Trapizzino. After our trip, my daughter said that sandwich was the best food that she had in New York (and we ate at the hot spots). Highly recommended. Delicious and reasonably priced.

Roman street food, in a great location for more than affordable prices

By RGSOUNDF |

Trapizzino, sitting right on the corner of Lower East Side's Rivington and Orchard streets, specializes in the Roman street food and offers about 25 different dishes, from CARCIOFI ALLA GIUDIA (fried baby artichokes, olive oil, lemon), SALUMI (pork and fennel salami) and FORMAGGI (pieces of aged parmigiano reggiano) for antipasti (appetizers) to more elaborate dishes, such as LINGUA IN SALSA VERDE (veal tongue, parsley, hint of sicilian anchovies), GENOVESE (beef and onion ragu, black pepper, parmigiano reggiano), or CODA ALLA VACCINARA (oxtail ragu, celery, red wine) for main courses. The prices are fantastically low, all main courses are priced at $8 (sic!) and salads and soups are priced from $6 to $8. Of course, you can walk in just for drinks, or take your coffee there, with something sweet (torta caprese, in our case), get a high chair seating right by the window facing Rivington St, and leisurely enjoy people watching. Very good and friendly service.

Cool place with delicious food

By ROSE S |

Excellent authentic Roman street food! Stopped for a bite before going to ICP and I'm glad I picked this spot. Very yummy homemade sourdough filled to the brim and BEYOND with delicious fillings. Can testify that chicken, and eggplant Parm were fabulous. I'll stop again when I'm in NYC.

Good food, cafe atomsphere, wonderful staff

By Anne D |

We rolled into this place late on a Saturday sweaty and hungry. We were welcomed like regulars with Alex, our server, seeing that I was struggling to get a wristband from an event undone offering to help with that before we'd even ordered. The atmosphere in this small-ish restaurant encourages leisurely dining and conversation. The food is tasty and the portion sizes are great for the price. The "hand sandwiches" come out of the oven hot with just the right amount of char on the dough. The next time we visit New York we'll be making a trip just to eat here.
