Do Not Eat Here

By snow51 |

My husband's and my lunch experience here was unpleasant and upsetting during our visit to NYC. The restaurant's appearance was nice but the service and food were lacking--from having to ask twice to get the Restaurant Week menu rather than the regular menus they brought after our first request for the Restaurant Week menu, to the cold stale rolls they served, brown ends on the salad greens, the skimpy $15 glass of wine. Then when the overpriced bill was presented, they purported to have an issue with their credit card processing system and asked us to pay cash. We were astounded but since we had the cash, we paid that way. Hindsight says we should have said we did not have cash, but neither would we want such sleazy people to have access to our credit card. It certainly seems like a tax avoidance scheme. Fortunately this was our only bad experience in 4 days in NYC but we definitely would not recommend patronizing this restaurant.

Home away from home.

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. Our home away from home. We go there every time we are in town. We love the music and drinks as well.

Hidden Gem

By Rebecca T |

My daughter and I stayed at a nearby hotel and found this place during a walk around the neighborhood. We each had steak. I had the ribeye and it was very good and my daughter had the recommended N.Y. strip steak. The strip steak was the best either of us had ever had. The staff was engaging and charming and we were very impressed. Yes it is a bit expensive but not outrageous for a high end steakhouse. Would recommend and will return.

Great food and happy hour

By Z.Z |

We live in the neighborhood and sometimes come in for a happy hour which is fantastic here! The sangria is perfectly balanced and the food is cooked to perfection. Try the sliders and the crab cake 👍 Recently we were there celebrating a birthday so I tried a Prime NY Sirloin Steak prepared medium. The meat was too chewy for me. I’ll give Filet Mignon a try next. I hear it’s nice and soft.

A Hidden Beaut

Hidden but what a beautiful location! Was a great find for lunch, and will come for dinner next month.

Great steak and good service.

By Malcolm L |

The Tudor City steakhouse is an apt name for this solid, old fashioned steakhouse. No nouvelle cuisine here just good quality steak and seafood in a clubby surrounding with good service. We met with friends who had recently moved back to NYC. The fillet was pronounced as excellent and grilled to perfection. My wife, son and I decided to share the porterhouse for two. A 18yr old boy can consume a fair amount of food and we were a bit concerned that it would not be enough. Our fears were were allayed when the steaks arrived. There was enough steak for a family of six and it was cooked to perfection. Tender, juicy and full of flavor. If you want a good honest steak, this is the place to head for.

Excellent First Visit!

By RevLou |

This was our first time here (based on a friend's recommendation) and we were not disappointed. The ambience was open, light, and airy (unlike many steakhouses which are dark & somber). The service was extremely attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. For our appetizers, we shared the Lump Crabmeat Cocktail and the Fresh Mozzarella & Beef Steak Tomato Salad. My wife had the 12 oz. Filet Mignon and I had the Prime New York Sirloin. For our sides, we shared the Sautéed Mushrooms and the (wonderfully decadent!) Truffle Creamed Corn. The portions were so plentiful that we had to take some home. . . .which was the only way we could share a terrific Chocolate Cremeux (peanut butter chocolate mousse, candied salted peanuts, mandarin sauce, chocolate cake) for dessert! It's not a cheap pricetag, but we felt that we totally got our money's worth! We stay in Tudor City when we come to NYC and we definitely will return. Highly recommended!

Hidden Gem - Worth The Search

By justcare |

My wife and I recently enjoyed dinner at the Steakhouse and it was wonderful . Salta is the maitre d and she could not have been more helpful . We had the waiter recommended mussels appetizer and they were expertly prepared in a red sauce - simply delicious . We then had the ribeye for two and it was cooked to perfection . Coupled with a reasonable priced bottle of Napa Cabernet and a baked potato and cream spinach sides the meal could not have been better . They also have a reasonably priced bar menu with great food and extensive happy hour pricing . The location is excellent , just a little off the beaten path in the shadows of the UN , locals and diplomats flock to the place and with good reason . You will not be disappointed — two thumbs up !

A hidden gem!

We went last night for my daughters 21st and must say that the food was fantastic and the service exceptional. Sammy is quite a character and alongside the waiting staff made the experience one to remember. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quality steak at a reasonable price (based of NYC prices)

Somehow disappointed...

By Lmz2750 |

Service was not as good as expected and quite slow. The food is average and from my point of view not worth the money.

Dissapointing experience

By CarmenSpain |

I tried this place with an international group during lunch time on a weekday on NYC Restaurant Week. The place is very big and was rather empty which didn't help with the overall impression. The staff tried their best to be nice and accommodating but failed to provide a good service, the food came late and there was a long waiting time between dishes, which is inconvenient for a business meal. In the meantime, another big group came and got their food earlier and was offered pepper on it, which we were not. The quality of the food was average, the salmon better than the meat (even though it's a steakhouse). When the bill came, we were told a story that there was a new NYC law that enforced them to charge us extra if we were to pay with credit card. It's true that they had a sign by the door alerting of the extra charge, which we hadn't seen, but, it is sad that they tried to make us believe this was a new law, when, it was just a policy of the restaurant. A very disappointing experience at a place we were hoping it could become a regular restaurant to go since it's close to the office.

They have an Amarone at $78. That is a deal!

By Bryce S |

I had lunch at the Tudor City Steakhouse on Wednesday. Tudor City is an enclave in Manhattan adjacent to the UN. I am guessing a lot of customers come from the UN. They have a two course lunch menu priced at $45.95. This included items like a crabcake appetizer and salon as an entree. They also have an early dinner menu, priced $10 higher at $55.95. This is available 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Who has dinner at 3:00 PM? It was explained to me this is also available at lunchtime. Why? It has an 8 oz. Filet mignon as an entree choice. They explained customers from the UN want to see a steak on the menu. (They have a full lunch and dinner menu too.) One of the major reasons we were having lunch here is because of the wine list. They have an Amarone on the menu priced at $78. This is a steal for an Amarone in Manhattan! There were three of us. We ended up having two bottles! (This was not my idea!) The crab cake was good, but the filet mignon was excellent! As an FYI, the wine by the glass is a generous pour. The service is good. The restaurant is attractive inside. There is a lot to like. Are there negatives? The full menu is on the expensive side. Also, getting here is best done by taxi, not walking from the subway.

So glad we found this place!

We had a brilliant experience last night at the Tudor Steakhouse. We wanted a really nice steak dinner for our trip and did our research and booked in advance. Everything from the food, the atmosphere and the friendly staff were excellent. We had the fillet mignon and sirloin which was cooked to perfection (the lobster appetiser was great too). Our waiter was funny and friendly and we loved his cheeky style of ‘recommending’ what we must have! Yes it’s pricey but you pay for quality and they know what they’re doing, so we decided to treat ourselves!

Fantastic....what a great spot!

By Stylelust |

Tudor City Steakhouse makes you want to move into the neighborhood so that they will know your name and save a seat for you at the bar. Genuine service, great food, lovely spacious dining - great for large groups. We were three sharing pals who put a fork into every dish ordered. I will return - especially for the big slices of bacon and the chocolate cigar dessert. Okay, my photo of the chocolate cigar is not pretty but....yum!

A great restaurant. It might be a well kept secret

By Bryce S |

We had dinner with friends at the Tudor City Steak House on Saturday. It was excellent. Tudor city is a New York neighborhood tucked along the East River at about 42nd Street. Because it is not easy to access, it is very secluded. The steakhouse is excellent. We arrived early and had drinks at the bar. They poured large glasses of wine, priced at about $15. The wi e list is very fairly priced. The restaurant had a New York Restaurant Week menu, priced at $60 for three courses. The meal was excellent. I started with the Caesar salad. It was one of the best I have ever tried. My entree was the filet mignon. It was great too. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse, which was presented as a cake, served in slices with whipped cream on the side. The restaurant has live music. The guy at the piano, who, sleep, played the guitar as I recall, was excellent. Are there negatives? None that I can think of. It was quiet on a Saturday night, but that’s might be because it is August. It might be a neighborhood place, which would be yet another benefit.

Great Food and Service, Credit Card Payment Huh??

By Tbrrs |

Enjoyed a delicious dinner with excellent service. When the bill came there was a surcharge for using a credit card! I was put off by that as we tried more dishes than usual and certainly do not carry that much cash in my wallet. If they are pandering to business customers who don’t care about it , fine. But if you want to build a successful business you must consider the common man who can afford your prices but don’t like being nickeled and dined!I probably will not go back because of this.

Great dinner

Great food, good service and a nice peaceful restaurant in beautiful setting. Would definitely revisit, The steaks are huge! Sides are lovely too. Great wine đŸ·

Nothing redeeming

By David B |

We were surprised how empty it was on a weekend night. The food turned out to be average and overpriced. The evening ended on a very sour note. Supposedly we were entitled to fee parking but they “ were out of vouchers” it took a hassle to get our car back as the garage attendant and restaurant manager argued on the phone. In our opinion there are much better steak restaurants in Manhattan with better food, better value and more honest managers. We saw nothing to recommend about this establishment.

Great 1st Experience!!

First time here. It used to be the home of our one of our favorite places (Convivio) and it has done our memory of that place proud. Great food. wonderful servive. Reasonable prices and lovely atmosphere where yoy can hear yourself think. Highly recommend!!!

Ripped off

Waiter was rude and swore at guests, did not get what was paid for and to add insult to injury we were double charged for gratuity! Despite attempts to contact management and owner to discuss they have ignored all attempts to reach out.

A Wonderful New Gem in Tudor City NYC

By actress1 |

My husband and I dined here last Saturday night. We found the decor lovely and the service amazing. We started our dinner with a Caesar salad and mozzarella and tomatoes. The Cesar salad was dressed just right and the mozzarella and tomatoes were quite good For our main meal we both ordered the skirt steak. He ordered his well done and I ordered mine medium. Both came out at the right temperature. We also had a baked potato. Again, cooked perfectly. For dessert she had the chocolate cigar and ice cream. Wonderful!!!! We both loved this restaurant and are excited to dine there again. Lynn Ross NYC

Stay away!

By AdventureKA |

We won't be going back! We ate here twice. The steak was of good quality but the food was marred by the experience. The main reason for not returning is the wait staff. The second visit they refused to take our order until all 4 of us were seated even though I told them I would order for my spouse. They were inattentive and we had trouble getting their attention. One waiter was younger and almost too friendly. The other waiter was older and he was the one who refused to take our order. I think a lot of neighbors like to visit the bar and happy hour specials but the space allocated for that it teeny. Honestly, even if they changed wait staff, a good steak isn't worth visiting this place - it's pricy and empty.

Excellent dinner and superb service

I had dinner at Tudor few days ago. I ate the best burger of my vacation in NY: it was delicious! The owner and all his staff were very kind, professional and fast. I do recommend the restaurant, a great experience in avery lovely place with amazing views.

great lunch

Took my family to lunch today at TUDOR CITY STEAKHOUSE they loved it. Very accommodating ,my nephews who wanted to change some of the sides "no problem". We asked for for medium well steak and thats what we got. The cost for lunch was fine for the quality of food. A STRONG GO. BONNIE Y.

A must-try in midtown east!

Excellent Porterhouse steak & pork chops, warm, charming ambience & gracious service all-around. Several restaurants have tried & failed in this location, but Tudor City Steakhouse is destined to succeed! We came for New Year's Eve dinner, which was excellent (& included a jazz/swing band); locals enjoy their daily happy hour as well.

Good steak place

By Ahmed Elshandawily |

Went there for lunch today. Let me start with the positive aspects: the service is great. The waiters are attentive and very friendly. On the flip side, the steak I had was not on par with what is on offer in the other premium steakhouses in the city. I ordered the sirloin, and while it was perfectly cooked, the quality of the meat itself just didn't have that dry-aged, prime "edge." Another thing, it came sliced. In my opinion, never bring a steak to a customer sliced unless you tell him/her first and give them a choice. The side of onion rings was perfect, though. Avoid the truffle butter as a sauce; it is barely edible. Another issue I had was the fact that the AC was not on even though today was quite warm, so I wasn't exactly comfortable while dining.

Overpriced mediocre food , poorly prepared .

By justcare |

Went to dinner here with wife and two friends and was disappointed. Nice place in a good location with decent service. The steaks were ordered medium - rare and showed up rare . Not a good look for a steak house. The broccoli was under cooked and over seasoned with garlic. The lattes were undrinkable. Not a good value with other better places in the area .

Hidden gem in Tudor City

By erik k |

Found accidently during restaurant week and had great meal. Service and food excellent and a bargain. Old style atmosphere with view of East river. Quiet and unassuming, which is unusual in Manhattan nowadays. Great choices throughout menu. Plan to return.

A shocking experience overall

By Lillian |

We booked a room well in advance for over 40 people. We were promised it would be private and quiet as there were speakers. The room was not private, and was incredibly loud. Speakers could not be heard at all. One waiter swore at me multiple times, and provided the worst service I have ever received. He told me if I didn’t like it then I could go to the ******* door and ******* leave. Service was incredibly slow. We waited over an hour to receive our entrees. There was one (abusive) waiter allocated to our group of 44 guests. We were not offered the soft drink and tea and coffee which was included in our set price. After experiencing the worst service, being abused by waiters, and not receiving what was agreed on by contract, we were then OVERCHARGED $400 and still left with an incredibly hefty bill. Now, the owner seems to be impossible to get a hold of, and is intentionally avoiding dealing with the matter. Do not go to this restaurant unless you want to be sworn at by waiters, not receive what you pay for, receive slow service, be greatly overcharged, and have to try and deal with an owner that runs away from his issues.

Relaxing

By Richard I |

I come to this place if I feel like relaxing with her glass of wine at the bar. Or if I feel like putting on a nice outfit and sitting down for a steak. It’s really great.

Be sure to order the fried onion rings. Best I've ever tasted!

Tucked away in the cosy, green neighbourhood of Tudor City with it's pre-war, stone, and stained glass architecture. If you want a good steak done right, this is the place.

Great place to celebrate birthday

By Lily S |

My husband and I visiting my brother in New York for his birthday. We particularly wanted to celebrate his birthday in steakhouse. We found Tudor City Steakhouse through Trip Advisor app. We are so happy we decide to go there. Excellent service. Quite place with nice background music. We ordered steaks and pasta. The way stake was served to the table was so impressive. We had a great celebration dinner which left us with a lot of good memories.

Not worth the $$ at All!!

By nycstarr |

Many of us Living in the Tudor city area were very excited to see a new restaurant come into this former" destination Restaurant" space. Well this is NOT going to be a Destination restaurant . We ate here over the weekend and the food was high priced and Average at best!! The Calamari our table shared was tough and chewy[ obviously frozen] the steaks are average but Expensive, The lamb was decent but high priced and the creamed spinach was actually awful, runny and tasteless, the mashed Potatoes were cold !! Desert, they say its homemade on premise, we shared a few, including the chocolate cigar, and the cheesecake....................NOT impressed, the other couple actually thought the chocolate cigar was awful, with a funny fake liquor taste....... what can I say we are all NOT returning anytime soon. get a New Chef, or something so disappointed!!.

Quiet restaurant with great steak

By Neil Z |

Opened after many years being closed, this is a welcome addition to Tudor City, next to the United Nations. We have eaten here 3 time. Steak is delicious. Service is great. Best of all, it is quiet enough to carry on a conversation and you can stay pretty much as long as you want.

Tudor City Gem

By AdventureTraveler60 |

Tudor City Steakhouse and it's outdoor dining is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! The setting is perfect - right across the street from the park where it's quiet and away from the hustle bustle of the city. Pretty little lights complement the wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Occasionally, a jazz trio also perform which adds to the ambiance. The food is delicious! My friend and I usually opt for the truffle fries, house or caesar salad, sauteed broccoli, sauteed mushrooms, etc. Tonight we had the salmon tartare which was amazing and delicious tiramisu for dessert! The service is wonderful. Highly recommend! We're regulars and we'll definitely return. They have two large heat lamps when the temps drop in the near future.

Great experience

By LBBMexicoCity |

My husband and I went here for lunch the other day and found the quality of everything excellent, from the bread to the expresso. The food was fresh and very well prepared, the service impeccable and the setting lovely. The restaurant was not busy (perhaps they do more business in the evening) but definitely deserves to be!

Good

By Elian W |

Really pretty and relaxing area. Was a nice day so sat outside, but then the wind came and the heaters didn't work, so was freezing! Staff were not necessarily attentive to this. Food was good though. I had the chicken milanese. A bit pricy for a very simple dish.

Best Happy Hour in Midtown

By emdupuis |

Going to Tudor City Steakhouse is like going back into the world of Mad Men. The setting is Mid-Century beautiful, the service is professional and friendly, and the food is excellent. I'm not an aficionado of steak, but I do like a good happy hour and I never go elsewhere when I'm in Midtown -- the people are welcoming and the drinks and apps are really fine. The dining room is Midtown prices but worth it when you want somewhere special.

Price not justified by the service

By guidov |

Overall service (extremely expensive) does not justify the finale price . Nobody explained the the wine list . The menu was provided late and without suggestions. Last but not list we were asked to increase our tip which was expressively taken low to reflect the low level service provided .

Thoroughly Enjoyed this magical spot

Had been here for happy hour -- was quite pleased with great service -- good value. Came back for our anniversary and was not disappointed. Sammy was our server and he was exceptionally engaging and attentive. Yummy food. Great neighborhood -- magnificent ambiance and charm.

Very disappointing for the price

By Bryan V |

My wife and I went to the Tudor City Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan after an event at the UN. You expect a restaurant in this part of New York to be expensive, but you also expect to get good service and good food for that price. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. First, some good points. The restaurant itself is lovely, with a 1920s vibe, and the maĂźtre d' was a charming young man who seemed committed to giving us a good experience. I couldn't say the same for our waiter. My wife ordered a "very dry martini." He brought us a martini with lots of vermouth, but my wife drank it. When he asked her if she wanted another, she very politely said, "Yes, but could you ask the bartender to make it really, really dry?" The waiter informed us that "Our martins have NO vermouth" (which is ridiculous) but said he would ask for very dry. He brought back a martini that had even MORE vermouth than the first one. I hope the joke was worth what it cost his tip. (More about that below.) For my appetizer, I had the shrimp cocktail. I am not exaggerating when I say that I have had bigger and fresher shrimp from ShopRite. My wife had the "Sizzling Canadian Bacon," which was tough and burnt. For our main courses, my wife had the filet mignon. In fairness, she said it was good, though more like "rare" than the "medium rare" we asked for. (Actually, the waiter asserted "medium rare" when we ordered steaks, without asking us.) The side dishes were also actually good: we shared the pasta carbonara (which doesn't seem to be on their regular menu), and I had a baked potato, which was well prepared and well presented. (A minor point: in an upscale restaurant you don't expect the butter to be in those little plastic diner tubs. Their online menu brags about "Chef A’s signature Barolo wine cherry peppers & onions truffle butter," but don't expect that.) My sirloin steak was properly cooked and well presented (see the photo), but it was not tender, and would have been only adequate at half the price at a chain restaurant. We did not order desert, but they brought us complimentary limoncellos. My wife and I stared to think, "Well, maybe they're doing the best they can." Then we looked at our bill: they had added a crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e to the bill (hidden in the middle of the bill) that we had not ordered. I wanted to tip 0%, but my wife is too nice, so we tipped 18%, which is I think the lowest either of us have tipped in our lives. Oh, one more fun tidbit: we were seated right in front of a bug zapper, which loudly popped every few minutes. The electrocuted bugs smelled of burnt hair, which really added to the ambience of the restaurant!

lovely menu

We all had a 3 course meal for my birthday: crab cake, filet mignon and cheese cake with cappuccino. The food was very good.

Interesting place

By GeneseoSupremo |

Tudor City is a charming little areas and this is the only restaurant in “The City”. Charming is the word, inside and out. Woody and spacious you’ll feel like your in an old school steak house that is not rushed and overcrowded. They food was excellent. Lobster, huge ribeye, great sides - all very good. The 24 ounce ribeye came out sizzling and perfectly cooked. It was more fatty than usual, but I was thankful for a big bone and a lot of fat making it not overwhelming. The service was top notch, attentive but you didn’t feel rushed (and granted the place was practically empty on a Wednesday night at 8:00. It’s expensive. No other way to say it. With the money? Not sure to be honest

Great restaurant in Midtown Manhattan

By Ariel F |

This week we went twice to Tudor City Steakhouse, once for drinks and the second time for dinner. We were craving for a good hamburger and rather than going to our usual burger place, we decided to try the Steakhouse: we are thrilled with our choice. The burger was perfectly cooked and the fries were incredible. The service was impeccable. The staff is efficient, professional and warm: we ended up hugging with the waiters and wishing each other a Happy New Year. We also went for happy hour, a great deal. We recommend this place without any hesitation not only for drinks and dinner, but it is a great location for a business lunch.
