Wowza!

By Jtrooney75 |

We happened upon this gem while looking for a different Tripadvisor restaurant. The service was excellent. The The food ( cheese appetizer special, lamb patties special, Turkish red wine) was amazing, subtle and delicious. The decaf Turkish coffee was great and the chocolate pastry, whatever it was, stopped me from speaking since it needed my full concentration. I super duper recommend and will definitely go back!!

A good deal!

By ianshamshey |

I had passed by last weekend and saw that they had a luncheon special on Tuesday-Friday from 12-3 for $12.95. I took care of some errands and realized I was within the lunch framework so I headed over. It was after 2p when I got there. The $12.95 special includes an appetizer, entree and choice of drink. The drink choices are between hot and cold tea-the cold tea was unsweetened and cold so it was great. I got the garden salad for my appetizer which included lettuce, red cabbage and carrots with a tasty dressing. For my entree, I got the lamb couscous which had pieces of zucchini and peppers with pieces of lamb in a tasty brown sauce. There was a scoop of brown rice included. It was a filing meal but not overly so. The space has a pleasant decor, a large space with a garden for seating out back. The server was pleasant and accommodating. The restroom was clean and well maintained. One caveat: at lunch they prefer cash over credit-I was not made aware of this until I had to pay the bill but was also told that if I didn't have the cash an allowance would be made. I paid in cash. I would recommend and return-a good deal for lunch!

Expensive? Yes, Good food, ambiance and service? yes, yes, yes

We came here after attending a matinee theater musical on Saturday, December 30, 2023. It was about 5PM, so they were not busy at all, yet. We were met by the very gracious owners and staff. Very attentive to providing excellent service. There were four of us and we planned to have a very enjoyable meal in a wonderful Turkish setting. It is somewhat expensive here, but overly so for fine dining, and really just average prices for New York City. the decor here is very nice, with beautiful wall art and even the table settings were very special. I had a glass of Yakut, which is a Turkish red dry wine.. very good. we ordered 2 appetizers to share, but we were served 3 appetizers, and charged for 3, not 2. We had Babaganush, Spicy Hummus and the Gozleme which we did not order. No complaints we ate it all. My wife and I both had the Turkish Ravioli Special (was not on the menu) and I really did not understand the explanation of what the ingredients were. It was tasty, but a very small portion for the price. My buddy friend had the Lamb Chops which was $40.. he said t was worth it. Then all four of us shared a Kadayif dessert. Basically a shredded wheat dough with syrupy sweeteners. Our bill was nearly $260 before tip. But when you consider fine dining cost it's really not too bad.

Tasty food and good service

By ShareKhan4 |

I have been here a couple of times, and food was quite tasty on both occasions. The second time, my wife and I visited for lunch and we were among the few customers in the place. We had hummus, falafel and adana kebab and all were really good. Service was very good too. I've had Turkish food in Turkey and also in other cities and have to say this ranks among the better ones.

Fantastic

By joshua |

One of my favorite places. The foods is amazing, the atmosphere cozy, and the service very respectful and attentive. There is no rush.

Average and NOT worth the money.

By tobi1kenobe |

We both had full dinners. None of the food was in any way exceptional. The Service was great unfortunately. But what they served was a whole other story

Would visit again

By Flyer89223 |

My husband and I stopped in for lunch before a matinee of Kinky Boots (simply amazing - highly recommend!!). We didn’t know anything about the place but thought it looked interesting and were delightfully rewarded by our choice. We wanted a light meal, so picked three appetizers to share - calamari, falafels, and a special- roasted red peppers in homemade tomato sauce with yogurt mint dressing. All were fantastic, as was our server - very attentive and informed about the menu. We finished it off with mint tea and Turkish tea (the latter was on the house). The restaurant is small and cosy, with Turkish decor that is lovely but not overwhelming. Our tab was very reasonable and the only thing my husband asked was if we could bring the chef back to Vermont with us. A 5/5. Many thanks, Turkish Cuisine!

WOW

By Edward A |

We were wondering around looking for a place to have diner and I spotted the sign across the street. It has been 17 years since we last visited Turkey, and here was a chance to enjoy some of the favours. (I joke they my might have "lime Fanta" popular in Turkey, Morocco and a few other places, but not but not this side of the pond). So, we looked at the menu, I love lamb, thus I opted for the Lamb and Eggplant Kebab, my wife did the Lamb with Yogurt. As a starter we has a special grilled peppers in tomato sauce. The food was great! A true taste of Turkey To finish, Turkish coffee and desert. OK they bring the coffee prepoured in a mug to you. Not the traditional way of pouring it into your cup as they hold the pot about 2-3 ft above cup and manage to hit it... (it all about the showmanship there). Too bad we have to leave tomorrow. Will have to return here sometime. really enjoyed it. Staff was great.

Disappointing

By war1today |

We ate at this restaurant many years ago, different owner, and food was excellent. Just ate here tonight and food was below average to average at best. Dinner for two with tip was $92. One glass of wine was $11... wtf! We ordered an appetizer which was a special and recommended by waitress - peppers with a tomato sauce which was bland and tasted like... peppers! My wife ordered a special chicken kebob dish which was okay. And I ordered a spinach dish with a yogurt sauce and it was bland. This is a one and done for us. Was hoping for nostalgia having eaten here years ago. But instead got a large bill and blah food.

Great Food in Authentic Restaurant

We really enjoyed finding this Turkish restaurant. The food was amazing and the Turkish wines were great too. And it was very authentic with a great family running it!

If You Want Remarkably Bad Service and a Less-Than-Mellow Dining Experience

By Psychologyguy |

My wife and I had dinner at Turkish Cuisine on a Saturday evening in April. We had made reservations, showed up on time, and were promptly seated (or, more accurately, squeezed in to a table-for-two next to two other tables-for-two, with perhaps 1 inch separating our table from the one next to us -- such a tight squeeze that when the next party was seated next to us, they spontaneously commented to us about the tight squeeze). The lack-of-mellowness began in the first minute of our dining: The waitress asked us if we wanted bottled water, and we said we just wanted tap water. She ignored us and began outlining other drinking options: Did we want wine? "No." They had a variety of soft drinks. Did we want a soft drink? "No." This went on and on throughout our ordering process. We ordered salmon. Did we want the fish of the day, namely, a whole fish? "No." It was the special of the day. "No." The clear sense was that this place was trying to maximize their profit. Granted, in this economic climate (and, in business in general) that is the goal, but to so blatantly ignore what the customer is saying is, at best, unpleasant. Let's move on to service in general. We asked for some pita bread and olive oil. Perhaps 10 minutes later it was brought . . . to the table NEXT to us. A one-time error, you might say. Nope. Remember there were a total of three side-by-side tables for two? We were pretty much in on the action of all three tables. The third table over was delivered their meal. The problem: It wasn't their meal. It was the meal of the table in the middle. Right food, wrong table. The two tables had to sort things out for the waiter. The food (salmon) itself was great. However, I had asked to order a side of rice (intending to pay for it extra). When my food was delivered, they had eliminated the salad that is supposed to accompany the salmon on the plate and instead substituted rice. I did not bother to bring this to their attention. Finally, we asked for the check. Want to guess the waiter's response? No dessert? "No." We waited for the check, and someone else asked us: No dessert? "No." And then, . . . someone came over with a tray sporting four sample desserts, showed it to us, and asked, No dessert? "No." Finally, we received the check. IF that sounds like a mellow dining experience to you, then this is the restaurant for you.

Excellent food and service but stung by sneaky sales tactics

By Ellie K |

We had the 2 courses lunch deal which was great value. The food was really delicious and it was so nice to have some healthy food. The food was excellent and very good portion sizes. The young lady who served us was very friendly and provided great service. However we unfortunately left feeling a bit ripped off by the ‘extras’. We were charged almost $8 for a Turkish lemonade, it tasted lovely but I would not have had one if I had known it was going to cost that much. We were full after our meal so did not want dessert, but the waitress came round with authentic Turkish desserts on a tray and explained them all to us, so we would have felt very rude to decline. We shared one between us but we felt manipulated into it. They also added a 20% tip without giving us a choice, and we had to ask for our $20 change because they had kept it. When we first sat down the waitress told us the lunch deal is cash only, so at the end she took my boyfriend to the cash machine in Rudy’s bar next door which was all very odd. We wanted to keep our trip costs down (hence we came for the lunch deal) but we ended up paying $83. We would have absolutely given 5 stars for the food and service but they need to prioritise the customer more.

Best food in NYC!!

By Jaime M |

This place (Hell’s Kitchen district) was probably the best tasting food we had in NYC! We hiked over here after a comedy show at Caroline’s and I think we were the last customers that evening. The food was incredible and our server Han was over the top!!

Back again

By Heather M |

I am happy Turkish Cuisine is still open. It's nice having a cup of tea, listening to some good music while I wait .. I know the food is going to be as delicious as usual. Really is a favorite spot of mine.

Great food, excellent service

By Deanne N |

Came across this restaurant by chance and what a find. From the moment we walked in we felt nothing back welcomed. The service was amazing, very friendly, accomodating and great knowledge of food. We had the home made hommus dip and bread, it just melted in your mouth and the pita bread still warm. Main we had BBQ chicken, rice and veggies, what a great choice. The chicken was cooked perfect, so soft, topped with the garlic yoghurt it was amazing. The whole meal was faultless. As the night worn on the restaurant got busier and busier, yet service never faulted.

Midtown Turkish restaurant

Excellent food! We had the stuffed eggplant and mantu. The yogurt sauce was delicious and the host gave us samples of the babganoush and avocado dip which were also delicious.

Very Good Turkish Food Friendly Faces

By Tripwilmington |

My friend and I have been to Turkish Cuisine in the past and returned two weeks ago. I had one of the specials Rib Lamb Chops. This included 4 rib chops, tender and well seasoned, potatoes, rice, red and green peppers, another vegetable with yogurt sauce. My friend had skewered lamb wrapped in spinach. Photos of both meals attached. The restaurant is small on 9th Ave between 44th and 45th Streets on the west side. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will go again.

One of a Kind

By MDarrah |

Dining at Turkish Cuisine on Ninth Avenue makes you understand why Northern Europeans of the Middle Ages went in search of spices from the Near and Far East. The dishes served here are some of the most delectable I've had anywhere. You can, and should, trust the wait staff to bring you the most exquisite items on the menu. You will not be disappointed with the subtle and exotic tastes. (You will also not spend a fortune.) The restaurant is small but comfortable and is tastefully adorned with touches of the Middle East. The servers are kind and gentle. My wife and I were treated like family members just returned from a long journey. Turkish Cuisine merits my strongest recommendation.

Wonderful Turkish food

By Wendy W |

We are spending a weekend in the city to celebrate my husbands birthday. We had a fabulous meal at The Turkish Cuisuine. We had the best babaganoush and also some unusual specials that were very different. The hostess/manager was also really lovely. We will definitely be back.

If you Love Eggplant

By Devorah33851 |

Great service, great food, helpful descriptions by our server, and if you love eggplant you won't want to miss the moussaka. The specials the day, grilled sweet red peppers and a lamb and eggplant dish, were outstanding.

Yum yum yum!

By JHPSurrey |

Amazing starters, delicious main courses, great wine (not overpriced!) and very helpful staff. Treat yourself to a meal here as you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent Food: Average Service

By Juan C |

I went with friends of mine to check out this place. My friends are fans of Turkish Food. When we got there I was surprise on the decor and ambiance...perfect for couples and small groups of people. We did not have reservation so it was nice that they accepted walk-ins. My waiter was a really cool young guy that welcome us to the restaurant and gave us a nice table. Then he explain the menu and gave us the "specials" for the evening. After he left...we decided on what to eat. Then the service got a little bit weird. He was very persistent that we ordered the chicken and spinash special...even though the guest already had selected something else from the menu. Then the other waitrest sat next to the table and never saw that we needed to have more water to the table. When the food arrived, you supposed to clean all the table first and then served the lady first and then the rest of the gentlemen in the table. All our main courses were brought to the table and the lady...that order an appetizer as a main course...had to wait a little bit more for her food to be ready. My recomendation to the staff is to revised the correct order of service bc that can affect the whole experience of the evening. Regarding food...everyone like the Chicken and Yogurt dish and the Chicken and Spinash special. Also we try the calamary salad and the hummus and they were great. I will come back again for the food but I hope they can upgrade service to the next level.

Great meal

Popped in here and reserved a table for 6.30pm to ensure we got in. When we got there had saved us a great table. Great food, complimentary dips a pudding and Turkish tea. Fantastic service. Can’t recommend enough.

Turkish Delite

By GreekAtlantan |

We had lunch recently walking 9th Avenue to Chelsea and waiting for theater. The food was very good and service exceptional. It is a small restaurant with Turkish Charm and background music. Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly. We shared a dish and had a bottle of Turkish wine. Lucked out on this place.

Warm welcoming restaurant and delicious food

By GMP1943 |

Turkish Cusine is such a refreshing restaurant for dining. The atmosphere is charming. Unique wall decorations, a most welcoming staff and fabulous food!!! We have returned more times than I can count. The cleanliness is something to take notice of. Reasonable prices too

Totally Rip Off!!!!!!

By Hande K |

It was a terrible experience! We were there with my husband and this horrible restaurant ruined our NY romance! The waitress was insisting on selling “Specials”, however the specials were not listed on the menu, I didn’t ask for the price but apparently you think that, its more or less should be the same price with the ones on the menu, at the end you become schocked when you see on the check that they charge around 40$ for “one” special!!!!! Its a lot of money even for NYC standards! Than when you are going to pay with the credit card they say the system is broken, you have to pay cash, everyone does not carry cash! If you do not have any cash to pay the bill the rude, arrogant, grumpy owner of the business recommends you to visit the ATM!! Really???? How dumb I am?? After being ripped off for the terrible food, do I still want to pay extra withdrawal fee in NY?! DO NOT EVER STEP INTO THIS PLACE!!!!!!! And the gratitude fee is also included in the bill, do not TIP!

good menu, leisurely service

By jerseyjazz |

All the Turkish basics are here. Atmosphere is relaxing with good sound level that allows for conversation. My friend and I enjoyed the grape leaves appetizer and okra entree. Another entree (bakti?) was a little disappointing -- not very flavorful lamb in small filo dough rolls, with salad in the middle. Service is a bit slow and pushy at the same time. The wine list has been improved from when I was last here a few years ago--they've branched out from (awful) Turkish wines to some other basics. Also, surprisingly, the sangria is very good. Bottom line, as a theater district option, this is a decent choice.

Delicious and beatifully served Turkish food

By jcgtune |

Small, but nice place with excellent Turkish food. Service was friendly and good. Food was very delicious and well priced.

Fun last-minute choice.

By Michael B |

We absolutely didn't want any more Italian or Burgers. Stumbled upon this and was my friends first time eating Turkish food. I had lived in turkey and Greece so it was kind of a homecoming for me. Very good food at reasonable prices with very friendly service.

Amazing food, service and ambience for reasonable price near theater district.

By stacey327 |

This place was amazing! Walked by looking for a place before our theater was starting. What a treat!! Ambience feels relaxed and authentic. Service was warm and attentive. Food was fabulous!! They brought warm pita with a spiced tomatoe dish to the table. We ordered the Turkish wine and shared a lentil soup, the chicken kebobs on eggplant with rice and the beef ravioli. So flavorful!! Really, wonderful meal. Ended with Ming tea, Turkish coffe and a small sweet. Will definitely return.

Horrible experience

By MARIO Z |

It's an overpriced restaurant for the quality of the food and the service is terrible. I ordered a combo grill for two and they charged me an extra amount of money based on the number of people on the table without tell me this in advance. Furthermore they don't show the dessert and beverage prices on the menu, so If you want to pay 15 USD for a regular dessert and 5 USD for a can of soda this is the place for you.

Unusual and Wonderful

By Thomas V |

The food was great. We've been here several times over the years and have never been disappointed. Sweet small place with friendly quick service. Nice menu, all tasty dishes. Some garden seating. Nice wine list. A real gem

Like eating in the family's home

By Gina B |

I highly recommend this restaurant. Besides the food tasting wonderful we were taken care of as if we were part of the family. We felt as if we were dining in their home with them. After dinner, we were given tea and little cookie-type bites. We are already planning a return visit in a few months.

To try something new.

By J V |

it's not very common for us to find turkish food in our country so we decided to try it, we've got a nice table by the window which was ruined 10 minutes after with a view of all the bags of trash new yorkers leave at the avenue. at the beggining the waitress was very nice, patient and helpfull, she even showed us pictures of the food on her cellphone to give us a better idea of what to order, but for some reason that changed when I’ve asked for a beer and a glass wine for my wife rather than the bottle, the service after became below average, and i can deal with it ..... but after 10 minutes of trying to get the tab she comes with a 20% gratuity chosen for me, like of i had no choice. Im sorry but i didnt get a 20% service value, i left 15% wondering if she would thank us at least and maybe leave cash for the other 5% but as expected she got upset..... great food, but for those prices you need to upgrade the service.

Authentic Turkish Food

By Steven |

I dined here with a Turkish friend, who verified the overall authenticity of the place. The dining room was nicely decorated in simple Turkish style. The waitress was pleasant and extremely helpful, We ate light: each had lentil soup and hummus with pita bread. Both were very tasty. I had hot mint tea. After the meal we were given complimentary glasses of a slightly different Turkish tea. It was a very nice dining experience. The baklava looked wonderful, but we didn't have time before our show. Definitely next time!

Good food

By chaudhry82 |

We are from abroad and our local host took us there. Overall the food was very good. I loved the grilled vegetables and salad came with chicken shish. Humus and cakik were just an average. Chips were amazing too. The important part of the dinner was of course service too, and was brilliant. Hence I will give 5 stars.

Real deal

By nyist |

Has a very pleasant ambiance, excellent location for pre and apres plays, comfortable seating, excellent service, very reasonably priced authentic Turkish menu. Not very extensive but all essentials there, including Efes beer, Turkish wine, baklava and Turkish tea. One can just order a whole bunch of mezes and have fun.

Much nicer than it looks on the outside!

By Lin0515 |

We ate a pre-theater dinner here. The interior is charming and the staff very friendly, though not especially attentive once you've gotten your food--our server never checked afterwards to see if the food was okay, and we had to flag him down to get our check. The menu is heavy on lamb, eggplant, yogurt, and tomato sauces. We ordered two chicken dishes and they were both delicious, with exactly the intriguing seasonings you'd expect in Turkish cuisine. We also tried a Turkish wine which was very nice. The flatbread served with a dish of olive oil seasoned with mint was surprisingly good. This turned out to be a really nice choice for a pre-theater dinner.

Love this place

By David B |

Found this restaurant by accident and have been back several times . Small place with well prepared truly authentic Turkish food .. Love the ambience and the menu Even enjoyed the Turkish wine.

Fantastic dinner

By Travel_Buff29 |

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I really liked the chicken and eggplant. The yoghurt, cucumber and mint appetizer and the deserts were rrally good. The chicken and spinach is very good too. The staff was very nice. I loved the decorations too. I highly recommend it. The sign outside was changed today so it looks different than what is on trip advisor

Authentic Turkish Dining in Midtown

By FamilyMan13 |

Moderately priced midtown restaurant that could just as easily be found in the heart of Istanbul. Welcoming wait staff introduces you to a varying menu of Turkish treats. Loved the Spicy Hummus appetizer and the Feta Pie (a special Appetizer of the evening). The Beyti Lamb Kebap entree was exceptional. The desserts were a Turkish twist on old standards. We came by accident, we will return for the great food.

I won't be their repeat customer

By PerfectStranger_12 |

We were hungry after a Broadway show and wanted to eat something warm and hearty. I am a big fan of Turkish food and when having a choice and a chance usually opt in for a small mom and pop place like this in any city of the world so I googled this place and surprisingly got an availability on late Saturday afternoon when all places are filled in the NY theater district. The first impression was very positive. The room was pretty and authentic in its Turkish décor and brings pleasing vibes. We were properly seated and quickly served with menus. Then their waters started kind of aggressively pushing their specials for both appetizers and main entrees. We went along knowing that usually specials are the most popular and best dishes in any eating establishments. As it turned out, their aggressively advertised and their most expensive special, Lamb Shank, was little on the drier side and, in my humble opinion, didn’t live up to the hype. None of the three waiters which served our table, not even once came by to check how our food was or we need anything else. After we finished our food, one of them finally came by and aggressively pushed their desserts. We love Turkish sweets so we ordered three of their available four along with the famous apple tee. The desserts turned out to be the tiniest ones I ever experienced in Turkish restaurants. Then we were presented with the bill and there were some unpleasant surprises there. $8 for a bottle of sparkled water is unreasonable! Their desserts were priced outrageously high as well. $10-11 for a tiny portion of baklava, kadayifi or halva?!? What are we in Michelin type of a restaurant or something? Overall their food, while being not the best Turkish food, was good if you don’t consider their unreasonably small portions for apps, soups and desserts. However, their aggressive tactics and unreasonably high prices for small portions will stop me from eating there in a future. They should really put more efforts in service than just trying to increase the bill.

Pre-theater Treat

By Landmarkfinder A |

We have returned a few times before theater with friends, enjoying chicken eggplant kebab, lamb kebab, and falafel kale dinner. Turkish coffee superb. Service attentive and professional.

THE BEST RESTAURANT!!!!

By Jamila M |

I absolutely LOVE Turkish Cuisine 10/10! Literally the freshest food in NYC. You can eat a full meal and feel rejuvenated! The staff is great and every dish is made with love. A 10 out of 10. Here is what I order... *Spicy Hummus * Homemade rice pudding (by Miray) * spicy ezme * chicken shish kebab * sun-dried stuffed eggplant * vegetable koskos * falafel Also the staff is GREAT from the manager Ayse to my incredible server Miray.

Great little restaurant

By Jane C |

Small cosy restaurant with a nice atmosphere, good service & good food. We had the mixed kebab plate for 2 with cacik & hummus which was well cooked, tasty and just the right size. A little oasis of quality & calm just a few blocks from the bustle & noise of Times Square. Would happily eat here again if we were staying longer.

ONCE HOME I HAD TO DINE!!!!

By Lorenzo G |

Once home I had to dine. the restaurant looks good, it also has a very comfortable garden, but ... the dishes are ridiculous: small plates per minute portions but the price is so high. 3 people THREE $ 160 then go home and .... dine again. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Pleasant

By Irma G |

A nice choice for a healthy meal in the theater district. The day we dined there, they had a special of Bronzino which came whole or filleted. It arrived crisp and nicely spiced. We requested vegetables and received a small dish of steamed vegetables which were prepared al dente. Our friends ordered hummus. The portion was also small, and there were two small pita breads for the four of us. Our waiter was adorable and very friendly, and we talked of Turkey. He sent us complimentary tea which was very nice. The room is pretty and quiet.

Pretty nice Turkish place

By Bernardo F |

it's a nice quaint and friendly place. The service was very attentive and very friendly and informative. A good variety of food on the menu and the prices were standard for the area. I liked the food very much!

Disappointing meal experience

By terrynev |

Very disappointing experience. Food was good but the restaurant was let down by the waitress who seemed only interested in selling the "specials" and the 20% gratuity added to the bill without warning!! To add insult to injury, we witnessed everyone receiving a complementary Turkish tea on paying their bill but we were not offered one. Maybe because we were not New Yorkers (?) but for whatever reason it completely spoiled our experience. It's a pity as the food was pretty good.

Ambiance, food and service; top rate.

By HudsonDV |

Love the restaurant; Turkish Cuisine. Ambiance, food and service are all top rate. When I’m here I feel like I’m at home. Our servers were so friendly and made recommendations when we asked. We started with some great Turkish wine, avocado hummus, eggplant appetizer, and then on to chicken bulgar and salmon. Desserts were delicious with Turkish tea and coffee. Thank you. We’ll be back.

Really enjoyed it!

By LuvTaTrek |

Food was very tasty and nicely served. Good proportions and reasonably priced. Parking was a bit hard to find, but we managed!

Cozy little restaurant

By OlivkaM85 |

Not a big place, very cozy, and with enough space to move around, tables not too close to each other. We had starters and kebaps, I had beyti kebap, which was delicious! Also tried turkish wine, it was good and not too pricey. Service was great, staff was very friendly. We are lovers of turkish food and we really loved this one, would definitely recommend!

Decent Pre-Theatre on Far West Side

By Douglas T |

We stopped in for dinner before theatre on 42nd and 11th Ave. Attentive service, pretty cute restaurant decoration. Our waiter was friendly but intent on upgrading each course to the special, which was pricier, or a pricier thing, saying everything was very good. The food was actually good. But the portions small and a very small glass of house red was $11. OK for NY but a bit unexpected on the far West Side in Hell's Kitchen. The lamb kabob (special) was tasty. The humus OK but overpriced. We had a tea after the meal which came with "real" turkish honey from Trader Joe's. Nothing to write home about and we will likely go to a different Turkish restaurant next time. But you could do worse.

Wonderful, different food

By Beverley R |

The décor of this restaurant is comfortable, colourful and suits the choices on the menu. We followed the recommendations of the waitress and started with Patlican Tava (panfried eggplant with tomato and yogurt sauce) and another dish.. All were excellent. We then had lamb shish kebob with yogurt, lamb bulgar with salad and a mixed kebob. Everything was perfect and delicious. The restaurant was quiet, so we could talk with no trouble hearing each other. It is just a few blocks from the theatre.

Nice nice nice, but too expensive

By Paghost |

Small place, familiar atmosphere. A mix of Middle Eastern food and Turkish Cuisine. Quick service, food was good, had one beer, it all went well with good advice from the waiter and dessert on the house. So, when the bill came it was quite a (negative) surprise. New York my dear you have become expensive, but this place is too expensive even by NYC standards. Pity, the experience was good until the check.

Excellent food, good service

By imunshi |

We stopped to look at the menu outside Turkish Cuisine restaurant while strolling down 9th at 41st after a show since we love Mediterranean. Waitress convinced us to try it out. So glad we did. Baba Ghanoush was low on salt (good) but very flavorful. They gave us spicy hummus on the house...tasted great and different in a good way. We were three of us so we ordered the Special Combo Grill which was fabulous. Various kebabs on a bed of kale salad - perfectly seasoned and tender. Finished with complimentary light chai (tea). Highly recommended!

A real find!!

By callehuertas |

Where can you have lunch sitting down, listening to good, calm music, eating with porcelain plates and metal cutlery, and delicious food, for 20 dollars??? Well here it is. There is a lunch menu for that price. The food is delicious and on top of that the service is friendly. I will be back several times.

Lunch

By Scielbi |

We had a delicious Turkish meal here for lunch. Everything was tasty, fresh & a pleasure to eat. Small but wonderful. We'd definitely return here again

Very very small entrees at very high price.

By rachelsolell |

We are at the restaurant right now. Very expensive for a tiny niny dishes We expected for more from the turkish cuis, Disapointed!!! The crew was amaizing

Great food ambience but pushy waiter

By Afzal |

Excellent food. Cosy atmosphere but pushy waiter insisting on expensive items from the menu saying these are his favourites. No need to do this.

Very expensive for what you get

Turkish Delight!

By James M |

My wife and I highly recommend this restaurant. The food was incredible. The staff were polite, friendly, and knowledgeable. My wife had a lamb chop special and it was cooked to perfection. Likewise my Adana Lamb with yogurt. We had a bottle of Turkish wine, which was very acceptable. Nicely decorated. We are 70 years old and we both agreed that our dinner and experience was in the best five restaurant meals we have ever had. You can't go wrong if you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable NYC price

Decent eatery but a little overpriced

By Zacass |

We decided to try Turkish Cuisine for lunch after our show. It's a little bit expensive for some of the entrees and offerings. Sangria was $19 per glass so we passed it up but many other diners ordered it. Instead, my friend got a Turkish beer, which was fine. My friend ordered the grilled lamb with yogurt. He was very happy with his meal, both in taste, quality and portion. I ordered the Vegetable Sautee, which was a decent portion and had a decent taste but not very filling. We also split a feta and spinach appetizer, which was a little greasy, tasted ok but a bit small for $16.95. The service was efficient and friendly. The restaurant was experiencing a healthy business.

Great late-night dining experience

Stumbled upon this restaurant walking go the theater. Warm hospitality, delicious lentil soup, eggplant and lamb

Good food but be careful

By charles m |

We were visiting NY with some friends and were looking for a place for lunch when we came upon Zturjish cuisine. Since we all like middle eastern food and the lunch special seemed reasonably priced, we stopped in. The appetizers were very good as were the couscous main course. The eaitress then came out and showed us the desserts. My friends picked several desserts which were brought out and eaten with gusto. When we got the bill we discovered that each dessert was nearly the price of the appetizer and main course. So, enjoy the lunch special but you can get equally good, but cheaper desserts elsewhere.

A Delicious Dinner

By dmcwoof |

We were in the city looking for a good dinner spot. We saw Turkish Cuisine and were reading the menu posted in the window. One of the waitstaff came out to tell us about their restaurant. She was so sweet and so excited so in we went. The decor is very welcoming and you feel like you are in someone's home. We ordered some appetizers and some special appetizers. They were so delicious. There were many vegetarian selections for both appetizers and main course. Everything we had from appetizers to desserts were outstanding.... very fresh and healthy too. Service is excellent and very hospitable. We are already making plans for a return trip to this jewel on 9th Ave.

I Love Turkish Food

By Rachel C |

I have eaten at TC several times but this was the first time I had come for lunch. The regular restaurant room is nicely decorated and is charming. However, we opted to sit in the backyard which is a little bit rustic. It is decorated with mostly fake plants but no matter, they looked real enough. The regular menu items seemed to have gone up a bit in price but the luncheon special menu is a good price. My friend and I ordered and shared a special, the garden salad and the lamb with couscous. It was only 12$ for these Two dishes. We also shared a dish of bamyas-it was fabulous. Now that is Turkish for the word okra but before you go all crazy on me at the thought of eating okras-LET ME ASSURE YOU THIS IS NOT THE VEGETABLE YOU KNOW. Americans have been subjected to eating big, gros, mucosey ,slimy paleface bamyas. These, I found out after asking 2 waitresses- are imported from Turkey-they are tiny, tender and sweet. It was a bit pricey for a vegetable dish but it was very good. The coup de resistance was the charm and generosity of the waitresses. We were brought a spicy hummus and warm toasted pita bread for free. Then after we ordered a dessert called kazan tibi (a milk custard) we were also brought some tiny baklavas and warm tea, also for free. We were stuffed to the gills but that's ok, worth it.

Wonderful food!

By Andrew B |

We ate in the back garden, which was very pleasant. The food was excellent (and we've eaten here before, always with good reports), and the service attentive. The overall bill was moderately priced. We especially liked the grape leaves and the grilled lamb and eggplant!

Poor service and felt deceived

By Meechy327 |

We chose this restaurant with the offer of a free appetizer from the host at the front door. Felt a hard sales pitch on the specials from the waitress, and we had to remind her that she offered us a free appetizer when ordering. Chose the grape leaves - it came out as one grape leave cut in half to share! The meal was expensive and just ok, my pricey chicken kabob was dry. Chose to sit out on the garden patio out back but was completely ignored. Helped ourselves to the water pitcher since no-one came around. It started raining and we were still left to gather up our dinner and try to juggle to bring it all inside the restaurant ourselves. When we asked for our bill to be split, the clearly annoyed waitress told us we should have told her this before we ordered. Would not recommend.

Yum yum yum

By Gerhard F |

Amazing food complimented by great service. Be sure to ask about the specials for the day. Also have a Turkish coffee with your dessert.

Authentic Turkish Feast

By Linda R |

My husband and I found this lovely, small restaurant by chance. We found the Turkish waitress charming and really enjoyed the food. We especially enjoyed the lamb & the stuffed eggplant. The candy floss and baklava were outstanding. It cost around $US100, but it was worth it to enjoy our meal and wine in an ambient environment.

Must Have Been an Bad Day in the Kitchen

By FellowTravailer |

Despite high marks for fast, friendly service and good value, my overall "Average" rating stems from sheer disappointment over my pre-theater dinner. Turkish restaurants are our favorite, and I often order calamari as the appetizer. This version was the worst in memory. Not only was the squid rather bland, the pieces were tiny by comparison. About 20 percent of them were empty shells, with only one missing squid morsel on the plate. I've found calamari to be a good bellwether for things to come. Sure enough, the branzino special arrived overcooked. I regretted the fish had to die only to end up like that, albeit tasty. On a brighter note, my wife found her lamb chops to be perfectly prepared.

Great food, and a comfortable atmosphere

By Bernardo F |

It's great food and they have inside and a back patio as well. Lots of great menu items and the service is decent. Prices are reasonable for the area.

First time and it was awesome!

By Zacatti |

Just happened to stumble upon this gem on our first day in NYC for the weekend today. Took advantage of their lunch specials. Staff and food were amazing. Staff treated us to a couple of complementary apps and tea - very nice indeed. Price was very reasonable for four people. Ambiance, background music, decor - all great. Highly recommended! Will be back!

Average Turkish Food

By Onthemagicarpet |

I am not Turkish but I am a big fan of Turkish food and whenever I travel to NYC I make sure to have some. The food is average and over-priced. Service is ok but kind of aggressive. Once they notice someone checking out the menu outside they leave everything in their hands and go out to convince her/him to come in. It wouldn't be my first choice for Turkish food in NYC. There are better places on the east side of the city around the UN building area.

Delicious meal

By TrvCpl |

A wonderful find in a bustling city! As you enter you notice the wonderful decor with so many tasteful elements of Turkish design. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. The service excellent and the food was superb. The dishes were plated beautifully and generous. The tastes complex and well seasoned. Each diner loved his or her dish.

Loved it so much we went twice!

By Sam @ My Flying Leap Blog |

This place is amazing! We went last year when I visited and loved it so much we went twice during my four-day visit this year! The feta cheese pie is amazing, as are the dolmas, friend zucchini, and the salad with diced tomatoes, onions, and herbs. The creamy almond dessert is great and the mint tea is too! Great service.

Good food brought very quickly , high drink prices , online prices need updating

By Thomas V |

So we tried this place after a matinee show . We got there early , about 5 for our 5 30 reservation . We had a glass of red wine and a Turkish beer . Next time I would stick with the beer although priced high for what it is . Appetizers were very good ; their Coban salad and Babaganush were nice portions and which came with pita squares . The main courses were served within 30 seconds of the appetizers ; I guess they are used to the theater rush , but we were there way ahead of time so felt a bit rushed . The salmon dish was fine . My lamb kebabs for dinner was four lamb pieces with side dishes . Very small portion . Also a little tough and chewy . Also everything was 25-40 percent higher priced than online . We didn’t want dessert but had two Turkish teas which were small and also way overpriced . So all in all you get an enjoyable meal , although next time I would try something different , and no worries if you are in a rush to catch a show .

Amazingl and Flavorful Turkish Food !!

By Therese Prentice |

From Appetizer to Dessert was flavor filled and made to perfection!! Highly recommend this restaurant! The staff is so attentive and personable! I will definitely return!!

Overpriced, minuscule appetizers portions, really dissatisfied. Service was slow. I don’t recommend this restaurant.

Worst experience ever. Grossly overpriced, minuscule appetizers portion. Service was slow. Don’t recommend this restaurant

Great food and hospitality. We especially loved the falafel and the lemonade was excellent. We ate outside and enjoyed great ambiance of the city while eating. If you like Greek food you will love this place

Intimate Bistro

By SoozClues |

Our pedicab driver, who is Turkish, recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food is delicious and the service was gracious. We enjoyed the lunch specials, featuring the kofte and chicken kababs.

Beautiful place

Excellent vibes and super personal service . The meal is fresh and delightful. I will absolutely recommend this place also their back yard so fabulous and quite. Beautiful turkish music playing in the backyard .

Hidden gem

By Regina S |

Surrounded by junk food and expensive restaurants this is a nice quiet place to enjoy Turkish and middle eastern food. Everything we ordered was excellent, and not too pricey. If you are around the area, I highly recommend you give it a try. We had an appetizer of roasted red peppers that was very yummy. We are definitively planning on checking it again.

Very good Turkish food

By Ann H |

Very pleasant restaurant. Our server was really helpful, and recommended a great special appetizer. The main courses were very good, as were the Turkish wines.

Delicious dinner. Delightful service

By Cathy M |

As we waited for our table, people leaving after their dinner stopped to tell us how good the food was. They were right! Everything was fresh and tasty. The winner for us was the chicken with eggplant. Our charming waitress shyly admitted that she personally had made the chocolate mousse & coconut pudding so we had to order dessert. Yum yum !

Excellent food ...

By Groovemasterjay |

Nice place serving excellent food but you almost eat in the dark ! Please review your lights, your food deserves a little bit more light :-)

Lovely !

By Sukiknight |

Had an excellent meal here last night . Great taverna type feel , fabulous main course with very generous portions . We eat Turkish quite a lot and this was very good . Would recommend as a great option away from the hussle and plastic knives/forks of the main tourist areas. Don’t expect a highly polished environment but delivers great , real food .

A very pleasant afternoon in a Turkish garden

By RobertBG |

My wife says i have restaurant radar. We were searching for a place to have lunch with an old friend on 9th Avenue. We were compelled to enter Turkish Cuisine, a small space with an enclosed garden in the back. The restaurant was very well appointed with artifacts from Turkey and small items hand made by the owner. The staff treated us like long-lost relatives. We were seated immediately and unobtrusively attended by the delightful wait staff. For those familiar with Middle Eastern cuisine, the choices were not unexpected. The Turkish equivalent of grape leaves, with pine nuts and raisins, were delicious. We all had the special, a lamb dish with spinach, that was universally appreciated at our table. They also had some Turkish wines. The one we chose was a dry red wine from the Kavakildere Winery, and it went very well with the meal. The price of the wine at $40 may have been higher than the usual markup. As the late May weather was so perfect, we whiled away several hours without disturbance. Our total experience was delightful. The cost of the meal was about $175 for three with wine, tip, and taxes.

disappointed for the second time

By fred g |

Our second (and last time) at this restaurant. The food is just mediocre. No reason to seek this place out. On top of it, it was COLD inside. The waitress assured us the heat was at maximum setting, but everyone had to wear their coats to stay warm enough to eat dinner. Service was friendly, but she kept pushing us to order additional dishes even though there was more than enough food already. We did not finish it all.

Dishonest, lied to get us in then charged $9 for water.

By Jarrod B |

We were looking for Turkish, we stopped outside the restaurant to check out the menu, a lady came out, and asked us in. I told here we were looking for pita pocket style kebabs and they’re not on her menu. She said she does them, I asked how much, she said come in I’ll explain. She seated us, gave us menus, poured waters, and told us the specials. I said, we’re only after pocket kebabs. She said they don’t do them, they’re too simple. We decided not to eat there since she had lied to us. She then charged us $9 for the waters. Avoid this dishonest operator.

Consistently good and authentic

By LorenzoP2147 |

After several years living in Turkey I always miss that cuisine. We're keep coming back to this great place on the west side of Manhattan. Good food and the service is excellent.

Nice ambiance and food

By rubenpedrov |

We had a pleasant surprise in this restaurant, food was good, the staff was very caring and nice ambiance. Good option for Turkish food.

Awesome food

By Badlands_Davy |

Came for lunch , had the lunch special , lentil soup was very nice, chicken shish kebab very good too - authentic Turkish tea too ... and less than $12, excellent value and good service , I'll be back !

Great food but expensive

By Anne R |

We found this restaurant whilst wandering along 9th Ave looking for somewhere to eat on a Sunday afternoon. The place was virtually empty (only 1 other table was occupied) but it had a nice vibe. We ordered the starter special of yellow peppers in a tomato sauce to share, hubby ordered the lamb chops special and I opted for the chicken kebab. Everything thing we had was delicious and the lamb chops were amazing. When the bill came it was $88 and that was without drinks as we’d only had water. The lamb chops turned out to be $34.95. We accepted this as we should have asked the price when ordering but still it was very steep. They’d also added over $13 gratuity. Lovely food but we now understand why the place was empty.

Delicious

By Rachel1807 |

We’d walked past this place a few times and decided we’d have lunch on our last day. Great, friendly service and it’s very authentic inside. The food was delicious and the best we had in NYC. A lovely end to our trip

Very warm staff. Tasty food. Reasonable prices! Great place for an impromptu lunch!

Wonderful food and service

By RPK1990 |

After theater dinner was just perfect here. Service was friendly and welcoming. The menu was explained fully so we made the right choices. They were so eager to see that we had a good dinner experience and made some great suggestions. I was disappointed they didn't offer cocktails and the wine and beer menu was limited. We enjoyed the complimentary Turkish teas after our meal. The tables were a little tight. We enjoyed our dinner here, delicious

Tasty food BUT high prices & slack service

By teresa W |

The waiter was lovely and charming until we were seated and he realised we really did not want to order the specials. Thankfully the chicken shish was tasty and generously portioned. But the staff were slack. I had to prompt several times for water and was I believe ignored at least 3 times when I tried to get attention as the servers went past by saying (fairly loudly) "excuse me". We were sat at a table squished in the back corner next to a door that was frequently left open by staff. The number of times I stood up to close it...... We were also offered (and declined) dessert by two separate servers on two different occasions. They are very keen on the upsel. It's clearly a popular place, perhaps the staff are harassed and too busy to make the service side enjoyable for the paying customer.

nice ambiance, good food

By Lauren K |

As soon as you walk to the menu outside, the servers come to the door to try and entice you in. It seems to work well b/c we ended up there and we overheard many others as they trickled in. The food was all good solid middle Eastern standards. They give you warm pita and olive oil when you order your food. We had the stir fried vegetables w/ chicken (I think) and it was good. The other dish was a special and it was very good. The servers were friendly and gave us free Turkish tea for free at the end. The decorations in the restaurant are interesting in a good way. Overall, we had a good experience there.

Best Kept Secret in NYC!

By Marlabenet |

I can not say enough about this establishment, the owner and staff! I have been to NYC many times in my life and have not come across this neighborhood gem until now! I was here two nights in a row, both times right before closing. The owner, Alyse and server, Sibelius, could not have been more friendly or accommodating! They are both from Turkey and solidified my love for the people of Turkey and, of course, the food! The Spicy Hummus is a must have, made with Jalapeños and Cilantro. Do yourself a favor and run, don’t walk to this 25 year old, well run, restaurant! I can’t wait to re-visit my new friends!

Turkish Delight

By CannukGuy |

We stopped at this restaurant for a pre-theatre meal not having looked at any reviews or recommendations, and was not disappointed. It is not a very big restaurant and was fairly quiet when we arrived but it quickly filled up after a few minutes. The appetizers and entrees came fairly quickly, and all were very tasty. The lamb over a bed of spinach was wonderfully done and is my recommendation. The server was polite and very accommodating. The price was somewhat reasonable for NYC, entire meal for 2 couples came out to around $210 and that included a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers and 20% tip.

Great Service and Tasty Food

By Jack B |

Great night out. Dinner was fantastic. We had the falafel platter for two and the the stuffed eggplant. Amazing dinner and great service.

Looking forward to returning!

By Jeff K |

My wife and I often have good luck "stumbling" across a new place that we enjoy, and Turkish Cuisine was no exception! We were walking on 9th Ave. following a Broadway matinee, and decided to give it a try. Our food was excellent - lamb with yogurt, falafel, a delicious (though small for the price) appetizer similar of spinach/cheese pie. Unlike some places, they were not stingy about refilling the pita either. The service was friendly, with all wait staff working very hard - including an occasional pause to try to bring in customers! All in all, a throughly enjoyable dinner without breaking the bank (do keep in mind we're talking Manhattan here), and we hope to return soon!

Amazing Mediterranean food

By Susan C |

Very friendly! Quaint atmosphere. Excellent babaganush and Cacik. Chicken shish kebab was so tender and flavorful!

Good kebab

By Allen H |

Stopped in for a late night dinner. The kebab was good. The service was fast. Lots of people in the restaurant at 9 at night.

Family meal

By Bobby S |

Popped in on spec, accomdated family of four close to closing time. Food was hot and tasty. The special were delicious, we had the mixed grill combo for two, lamb beyti also. Definitely recommend

Post-remodeling Price Increase

By Scott B |

We were a party of four. My wife had good experiences at this restaurant in the past overall and she was friendly with the proprietor so we thought it was the perfect spot for some great Turkish cuisine in Hell's Kitchen with our friends. The restaurant was recently remodeled, which gave it a more upscale vibe. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered three Rakis, a glass of wine, 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. The Beyti kebab was very good. The appetizers (red pepper dish, hummus, eggplant puree, and stuffed eggplant) were all on the skimpy side, but slightly above average. It was abundantly clear after looking at the menu, that the prices were hiked up significantly over a relatively short period of time. One Raki is $12 and our lamb entries were up to around $24. All of the food items did not seem to have a sufficient amount of olive oil, which is the hallmark of Turkish tapas, so the offerings were on the light and lean side so much so that we felt we could eat more after we left. It's interesting that a light lettuce salad was served with our entrees in the middle of the plate instead of rice. They did provide us a complimentary milk pudding at the end of our meal which was gracious. The bill came to $193.69 before tip. Please note that they DID NOT automatically add a 20% gratuity to our bill like many others have complained about which was interesting. After reading some of the reviews, I thought that I double tipped, but that was not the case. Overall, we felt that the cost is not justified based on the quality and quantity of food and alcoholic beverages. There are many more options in Manhattan that are better value.

Delicious lamb as well as vegetarian

By Sarah W |

Delicious food, attentive service. Our teen vegetarians were very pleased as were the meat eaters. Seemed a little pricey ($8 for hummous appetizer) but then it's Manhattan. Not much of a wine selection but it was fun to try Turkish wines

Padded Bill

By GB10035 |

Diners beware! This restaurant included a 20% Service Charge on the bill (FOR A PARTY OF 2!) with no forewarning or notice of any kind. Not a suggested tip, but an item listed after tax and before the total. Adding insult to injury, the credit card slip indicated a line for a tip as if it wasn’t already included! Unsuspecting diners, who didn’t catch the sneaky service charge, might wind up double tipping. When I complained to the waitress that this was deceiving, she told me that all restaurants do this. I’ve lived and dined in NYC for over 20 years and NEVER saw this for a group of less than 6 people – and even then the practice was clearly stated on the menu. Shame on you, Turkish Cuisine!

Excellent Experience

By Stevens281 |

We had dinner here on a recommendation, and it was spot on . The owner, who came out and talked to us for a few minutes while we had a drink waiting for our dinner, was extremely friendly and such a nice person. The food was fantastic,. We can’t wait to go back again this weekend .

Find somewhere else

By NISIN K |

We normally eat at the Turkish restaurant across the street called Turco, however, we needed a place with a bit formal setting. So we chose this place which also serves Turkish food, in a bit more formal setting. The server suggested the daily special of broiled peppers at $ 13.95. ( off the menu ) This was a collection of small 6 peppers easily found at Costco broiled with a Yoghurt sauce on it - overpriced, then the Mixed Salad did not have the typical flavor of a Turkish Coban Salad - poor, then we received a dish called Spicy Hummus. Now, I know my Humus, I was barely able to identify the humus in this underwhelmed dish. It was a green liquidy small dish - spicy yes but tasteless. You see where I am going with this. Find somewhere else or even Turco across the street at half the price.

Good Turkish food

By NittanyLion70 |

We came here because we were hungry and it’s near the ROW NYC hotel. My wife has the Bronzino and loved it. I had the lamb kebabs that were very tasty. The salads were very tasty. We had no room for dessert. The server was very attentive. We will be back. Not pricey for New York.

Save your money and go elsewhere

By jenlewisneill |

Food was average but the service was the worst. Hovering over us while we ate and clearing our plates before the group had finished. Food was average and over priced. Not a friendly vibe at all. Upselling drinks that wer not on the menu and were unbelievably expensive when we got the bill, shocking to say the least.

Turkish Resturant

By Brad L |

The staff is very nice and pleasant. They do currently require vaccine proof. No worries there. I had the specials of stuff egg plant and baby lamp chops with a Turkish beer. It was amazing.

Amazing Turkish Lunch

By David F |

For $13, this is a great lunch special. The lentil soup was phenomenal, tastes like my grandma made it, with love. The lamb kebab was juicy and the accompanying vegetables were fresh and healthy tasting. Great experience, and strongly recommend.

Best Turkish in New York

By Phill H |

Great food, brilliant service and ideal location. Falafel was amazing and chicken shish was gorgeous and moist.

Nice place, nice food

By Andrea P |

We decided to try the place cause it was the only one open at late night after the July blackout. The restaurant is tiny, very pleasant, tidy, well kept. Starter were really delicious, the sweet pepper on tomato sauce night special was incredibly good. Main dishes (chicken and lamb sish kebab) were tasty, maybe lamb a little too hard. Don’t miss balaclava sweets, the almond milk pudding and Turkish Coffee which is the only one that can really compete with italian coffee.

Really delicious food and a warm welcome

By jsrnyc |

We've been going here for years and love this place. I generally order lamb with spinach and bulgur as my main and ezme and falafel to start, if I have some company. Delicious! The staff is very sweet and helpful. Highly recommend for an unpretentious dinner in the theater district.

The addition that makes you grimace

By Jarnata |

We were seduced by the waitress when we stopped to look at the menu. She offers us a lunch menu at 16.9&. At the end, installed in a beautiful setting, the dishes are indeed tasty. She offers us complimentary homemade cocktails and delicious oriental cakes. When leaving the restaurant, the bill was much more than double, the drinks were counted and the owner also asked us for cash!!! To conclude, good food but a scam and lack of honesty.

Eat here!!

By Maryam A |

The food was amazing, the service was friendly, the atmosphere was calming. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to eat in hell's kitchen. I tried to the chicken eggplant dish.

80th B-day dinner

By Riff M |

We had a marvelous dinner here last weekl!! I flew in from California to meet my sister(the b-day girl) and our 2 cousins for a celebration dinner that turned out to be just fabulous! We were welcomed by the staff and we decided to stay inside in the aircon since the temps were horribly hot and humid outside! I tried a Turkish wine which turned out to be quite nice. There were soo many good apps on the menu that we ended up sharing 3 of them. Yum!! After that 3 of us ordered lamb dishes and one got the salmon. Since I was staying in a hotel and didn't want to have left overs I asked if there was a lighter dish and the hostess suggested that my sister and I share the baby lamb chops. This turned out to be great advice!! There were 4 of them plus salad, veggies, potatoes, and bulgar rice so I cannot imagine one person able to finish all that! The only thing I didn't love was the pistachio pastry for dessert but as a surprise our waiter brought out a lovely coconut custard pudding on the house which we all shared and really loved!! I was surprised to read some other reviews which complained about this place being expensive and adding on tips without notice but we didn't find it to be that much at all. Our total for dinner was $165. My sister was very happy that I picked this spot for her dinner celebration and would come back at other times.

Will add 20% to the bill without telling you first.

By Jack S |

Bad service so so food and above all charges 30% for service without informing the guest. They count on the tourists that won’t have the time to dispute it.

A Busy New York on a Saturday

By Craig S |

A Busy New York on a Saturday night in December, starving and most restaurants queuing on 7th and 8th Avenue. Took a detour and found this place, amazing Food and doesn’t disappoint. Great service, food tasted delicious, make sure you visit and especially if hungry! Amazing value for the food you are served.

Wonderful Turkish Restaurant

By emmybee68 |

With aching feet after a day in NYC my friend and I landed here. What attracted us was the fact that they were cooking shish-ka-bob in the front window. The menu was extensive and had lots of Middle-eastern style food on the menu. The special had a reasonable cover price and offered a large choice of options. Everything was made on the premises. The Turkish tea is not to be missed, strong with tea leaves sitting on the bottom of the short glass, resting on a tightly fitted pillow! You'll love this small intimate restaurant away from the maddening crowd!

Rude. No service and needlesly expensive

By Sam K |

we were at this place on June 1, 2023. Food was ok. service was not Ok. But, they added 20% tip to our bill (abput $40) without asking. Speciality drinks were not worth the price. There are better restuurants near this location. I woud give them less that one star, if I could.

Incredible Middle Eastern delicacies

Great service with amazing appetizers and entrees. The kabobs sampler was a great treat to be shared.

Mediterranean food at its best

By fshugh |

Great staff with great food, service excellent I had the grilled stuffed peppers as an appetizer and the cucumber sauce similar to a tzikiki was the best ever. The almond pudding with a Turkish coffee will be remembered forever. My server was kind enough to walk me through the menu telling which was the most popular and which were her favorites. Truth be said she had great recommendations! The Turkish black tea was also very good. The staff was very accommodating I would go again with friends that I would like to wow with a tasty and differ

very gapped food

By marimar2222 |

My friend and I often stop here before a show and the food is always good. Last time I had the lamb with eggplant in a tomato sauce (can't remember what it is called but very tasty). It is a small, charming place but they open early enough and it's location between 44th and 45th on 9th Ave. is not far from most shows. Service was excellent and I don't think it was terribly pricey although plan on spending $25-$30 per person and that is no dessert. I love it and will go back.

Good Food and Good Atmosphere

By Tara W |

The food was good and the atmosphere was very enjoyable and relaxed. Definitely had to request the check a couple of times, though. It's as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. This wasn't the best Turkish food I've ever had but it was still good.

Turkish Cuisine

By Maryann |

This is a very small restaurant on 9th Ave. b/w 44 and 45. Second time over the years. Lots of wonderful detail around the restaurant, giving it a warm feeling. Service was friendly and prompt. Ordered the appetizer of grilled yellow peppers - that and the nice warm bread was great. Hubby loves lamb and had the lamb shank special. Said it was very good. I had the moussaka and that was delicious. No meat in this version and just a small amount of cheese. Too full for dessert but they looked yummy. Enjoy!

A surprisingly good meal in an unassuming location

By andytherav |

My wife and I went into this restaurant, we were not very hungry, as we had eaten lunch 4 hours earlier. The waitress / hostess was very friendly and helpful, although her accent was not always easy for us to understand. both of us ordered items she had recommended, as we were not very familiar with Turkish cuisine. I had a Beyti Kebab (a kebab wrapped in phylo dough) , which was served with a salad . It was absolutely delicious. The salad was fresh and tasty. I had a Turkish beer, which went down very well. We didn't have enough of an appetite to order the interesting looking desserts. We intend to return. It was a really good place to go after or before seeing a show.

Too expensive

By mari |

Family of 4, 270$! we took 1 aptizer (15$), 4 special lamb of the day (135$) and 3 desserts (33$), 1 beer and water! The prices of special of the day and of the desserts aren’t on the menu, when they offer to you it seems they have the same prices of the dishes on the menu (more or less for the lamb is 20$ per person, not 34$, that is the price of the special)..how supid we were! NEVER AGAIN, not because of the food, which is quite good, but because you feel cheated. If you decide to go, be aware: the tip is included, but when you receive the recipt it seems you have to add it!

Dinner after conference

By 793casper |

Had eaten here before. Its a nice small family run restaurant. Had a hummus appetizer with fresh pita bread. The special of the night was lamb kebab on spinach. Very well seasoned and prepared. They have a small menu but everything is freshly prepared. They serve Turkish beers and wine which was a nice change.

Nice ambience, great service, good food

By HimSad |

I came across this place and was back for the second time today. The people running this place are warm and welcoming. Its a small sized, well decorated restaurant. I like the ambience. Food is tasty and service is great. If they could make the toilet a bit more up market, they could be 5 rated.

Great food awesome service watch for service charges!

By Doctorpulmo |

Great food and wonderful service expensive considering they charged33% as service charges???? Food was good but the desserts were a little disappointing overall a good place to have authentic Turkish food the service provider whose name I forget was amazing. We had double mixed grill combo , chicken chops yeah that's right and not on menu advised by our waiter; lamb koftas, mozzarella cheese fritters, pita bread piping hot on the house lamb kebabs. The desserts were very ordinary the service charges amaze me sine I was with relatives did not raise the issue.

Great Food and Service

A Turkish friend recommended this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The menu had quite a few options to choose from plus daily specials. I had the Manti (small beef filled dumplings, with yogurt sauce and mint. It was delicious and filling. My friend had a grilled chicken dish with spinach. There had to be 8 large chunks of grilled chicken breast meat. We sampled each dinner and both were pleased with what we ordered. Definitely will return. The restaurant is small and it was quite loud. I strongly urge you to make a reservation if you are going before or after the theater.

Delightful Restaurant; great food

By Barbara S |

The food was amazing -- we ordered the specials of the day -- ground lamb wrapped in phyllo and grilled flattened chicken breast with eggplant and other vegetables and both we outstanding. Be sure to try their hummus -- it's unusual and divine -- made with cilantro and just enough jalapeno to give it a dash. We had some good Turkish wine and a lovely evening. The staff is extremely friendly sand the service excellent. A great pre / post theater choice -- or any time for some terrific Turkish fare.

Always have a great meal here

Many years ago, I was staying in Times Square for a conference and a colleague and I went out for dinner. Getting away from the crowds, we headed over to 9th Avenue, looking for a neighborhood place. We found Turkish Cuisine and I've been back probably 5 times in the last 2 years. The hummus and baba ganoush are outstanding. Salads are great. The grilled meats are terrific. Vegetarians who've come with me love it as do meat eaters. Their specials are usually worth checking out as well. The desserts are good, especially the fresh baklava. If you have a chance, try the mint tea. It's different - made with fresh mint leaves.

I left angry

We were looking for a place near our hotel, we passed and liked it. The owner spoke Spanish and we were advised. Good dishes, but simple. We found it excessively expensive, however I attach the invoice and you value. He paid cash and despite the tip included, he gave me $8 to miss, which he claimed and apologized. I'm not coming back.

Great Turkish food in small unassuming restaurant

By Chris N |

Outstanding food in a small unassuming place very close to numerous broadway theaters. The appetizers, vegetarian stuffed eggplant entree, and homemade lemonade were all remarkable.

A Little Gem in Hell's Kitchen

By Lyndagene |

Went on a recommendation. It's a little out of the way as it is on Ninth Avenue but the theater I went to was also on 9th Avenue. Restaurant not big but the food makes up for it and the customers were enthusiastic. Wait staff is friendly and helpful with selections however we had to wait a bit to have our order taken and paying the bill. Appetizer was babaganoush and the management gave us a free eggplant cigar as well. Had the famous chicken chops for main course which came with bulger, potatoes, salad, grilled vegetables. Plenty of delicious tasty food. My only criticism was the wait to take the order. I would definitely go back if in the area.

An excellent "guess",it was great.

We entered on a "hope that it would be OK" and it was great. Warmly received, we were presented with the menu which was fully explained, something that many do not manage to do. By now, six weeks later and back home in NZ, it is difficult to recall exactly what we had to eat, but the meals were excellent and the service was so good that you would go a long way to find better even in New York. The wine list was extensive and l certainly found the recommendation got my full approval. All in all, a great experience.

Charming spot

By kdancs |

We ran into this charming restaurant when we were hungry and it began to rain. All of us were popping our Turkish food cherry that day, and I am glad we did! Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. The lunch specials come with an app, a main dish, and a drink. The food was very yummy and everyone enjoyed their lunch. I got a veggie casserole and Turkish tea that I really enjoyed and my family enjoyed their food as well (a meat dish). The portions were more than enough and I would definitely return to try this place again!

Prices went up. Portions went down.

This had been our go-to place for years in the theatre district. Lunch special went from $10 to $17. Bring a magnifying glass to see the 4 tiny pieces of chicken on your plate. Not coming back anytime soon.

Wandered into Turkish Cuisine before going to a play. Fresh Mediterranean fare with some great variations. Excellent and attentive service. The dessert called Kadayif, a mix of pistachios, baklava, coconut, was awesome.

Overpriced: Consensus - read reviews

By Susan D |

Had come here a few years ago and the restaurant has had a renovation. There is a cute patio out back in good weather. We were here for lunch on a Saturday. They only have a lunch option menu during weekdays. Entrees were about $20. All entrees we ordered had a pita under the meal. Not sure why since pita came to the table. We ordered a chicken dish with tomato and yoghurt - $22. Really it was just chicken kebab pieces on (wet) pita with sauce. That's it. All meats were overcooked - the grill taste was nice but the meat was dry and chewy. I have never had lamb "medium" in a Turkish restaurant before so I sort of assumed it would be cooked through, but this was definitely the case at Turkish Cuisine. We ordered a side of rice - what came was a small side, like 1/2 cup cooked rice. So we ordered two more for the table. $6 each. So, that's $18 for about 1 and 1/2 cups of cooked rice. It wasn't amazing. The service was more polished than friendly. I would not go back due to value for what it was.

Great meal

Ate dinner here last Saturday at 5:30pm. Nice cozy restaurant with Turkish stuff on the walls. I loved all of the Whirling Dervish figurines. I had the fish special..excellent!. Companion had the falafel platter and that was outstanding as well. Roasted pepper appetizer delicious! All the tables were full when we left. Would definitely go back again! Servers were informative and friendly.

Great Turkish Restaurant

By waspccpa |

And I have been to Istanbul. But something I have never seen before is sauteed liver cubes. It was outstanding!!! It came with an onion salad which was very tasty. We also had the cheese plate and the eggplant with yogurt sauce. Everything was sooooooo good. Not a real big wine list but try some Turkish wine. My wife also had some cherry juice drink was was very different and very good too. The service was exceptional. We went before a play and they were gracious enough to hold our leftovers until afterward. This was such great food we ordered more sauteed live cubes to go. There are lots of restaurants in this area. Do not miss this one.

Great Food and one of the most friendly staff in Manhattan

By kalyan S |

The moment you enter this restaurant, you are bound to feel a personal touch in everything. The food suggested by the staff was amazing- I had the pepper appetizer and the spinach chicken and rice main course. I am not sure if it was traditional but it definitely gave the feel of a good homely meal(though slightly expensive). I was luckily present when the staff celebrated the birthday of a 80 years old lady on a busy Saturday afternoon- they went out of the way to decorate the whole place and made her feel special. These incidents live with you throughout your life.

Nice surprise!

By Laura R |

After a long walk because of a restaurant we couldn't find we ended up here. Very surprising and lovely real turkish food. It is indeed a little expensive, but it is not just a simple turkisch restaurant. The food tastes as it does in Turkey and the dishes are very surprising.

authentic Turkish cuisine

This is a small, friendly restaurant with very good food, averaging $20 per meal, especially for those who like shish kebab, offering a good Turkish red wine--Yakut--and Turkish desserts

Great food and service

The lamb chops were delicious and the service was outstanding. I would highly recommend checking this great place out.

Takeout? Sure . . . and good too!

By tobedetermined |

While staying solo at a local hotel on business, take out sounded like a good option for a lazy night. The ladies at TC were very accommodating & my pick up was ready on time. So ensconced in my corner room at Yotel, I really enjoyed the lamb shish & spicy hummus. The pita was warm & fresh and the entrée came with rice & a salad (and the utensil’s to eat it with). A resounding success! Next time I'm in town, I just might venture into the dining room – please say hi to the guy reading a Kindle in the corner.

Good food, too long a wait

By Leslie F |

Seems they must have been short staffed Though the waitstaff were friendly, there were only 3 for literally hoards of people pre-theater dinner time. They could only run so fast; management should have had at LEAST 2 more servers. So I fault the management, not the waitstaff. We mostly sat around waiting. The food was quite good once we finally got it. Others who were seated after us were served before we were (there were only 2 of us). This is a poorly run place, and likely will not return. Too bad since, as I said, the food was good.

Mediocre

By Livpop2727 |

Over priced, Impersonal service, cold mediocre food. Can’t understand the good reviews. The restaurant itself is pretty. Expensive and didn’t enjoy it at all.

We walked from the Intrepid museum to this restaurant. Authentic Turkish cuisine and great service. Order taker had given good recommendations.

Hidden Gem!

By Ashley W |

My father and I were trying to find lunch away from the hustle and bustle of time square, so we walked to 9 th Avenue. We saw this tiny restaurant and decided we would try something new and different. The waitress was very, very sweet and told us of the best things on the menu! We ordered and while we waited, and the wait was not long, we took the touches of the Middle East that were everywhere. I had so much fun just looking around. When my Kofte (Lamb Dish) came out I was amazed, it was one of the best pieces of meat I had ever eaten! I definitely recommend to anyone wanting to eat somewhere good and different!

Wonderful Turkish food.

By R0ckygirl |

We eat at a lot of middle eastern restaurants and Turkish Cuisine in 9th Avenue between 44 and 45 th streets in New York rates with the best. The food was original in presentation but authentic in taste. Service was knowledgable, prompt and friendly. We shared feta fingers - lightly battered and delicious with a sort of vegetable fritter. Both superb. Then lamb and spinach as dish of the day - tender and tasty as well as a chicken in pastry in a Balkan style followed by milk pudding in creme caramel style and a rice pudding. All delicious. The hosts then added baklava and other pastries free of charge. Excellent And highly recommended restaurant. Wish we had found it on ur first rather than last day in New York.

Servers biggest effort is upsell

By AmSarif |

3.5 stars. Very nice ambiance, friendly service. Good food. I was talked into the chicken spinich vice yogurt chicken. Appetizers and drinks were also strongly suggested. But after food arrived I never saw my server again, had to flag her down for lemon, never got water refill. She never came by to ask how the food was. I had to also flag someone down to get the bill. Then a renewed push for dessert. Good place but they should put more effort in service than just trying to increase the bill.

A Hell's Kitchen institution. Family-run and outstanding!

A Hell's Kitchen institution. There's a reason it's been here for many, many years. Delicious food and great service! Excellent lamb chops, and I loved the lentil soup special!
