My favorite place. Food off the charts as well as service and ambiance Do not miss this place. I had about 50 Italians for dinner there. All loved it

A solid Italian culture and dining experience.

By Stephen |

When we made reservations I specifically asked for a certain table environment and location. They met both requests. Promptly seated and allowed for a full dining experience. Franco was awesome. A no joke kinda guy but fun and Italian all the way. Dinner was as expected no surprises. Definitely would come back.

Good place, needs to improve .

Late lunch on Friday, the place was almost empty. Service was very professional. List menu a little short and prices too high. The food was just good, my venison was warm and the polenta too cheesy , but other dishes were very good.

Fantastic!

By VinoVeritasZZ |

I came across Valbella when searching the best restaurants in the Meatpacking District, and it certainly lived up to the great reviews and on-line accolades. From the moment we walked through the entrance, we knew we were in good hands. The host and hostess greeted us warmly, and we were seated at a great table for two along the rear wall - perfect for people watching and taking in the lively scene. Our waiter, Sonny, was a classic - entertaining, knowledgeable, engaging, and responsive. The food was fantastic, and the bone-in filet was among the top 10 steaks I've ever had. Every aspect of this meal and experience was top notch. If you're looking for a lively, energetic establishment with top quality food and service, Valbella is for you (and ask to get seated at one of Sonny's tables).

Thoroughly enjoyed it

We visited last week on a Thursday evening at 9pm, having prebooked, and the place was very busy with an atmosphere that was buzzing. Despite being busy the service was friendly and attentive. The food was divine - I had scallops to start and then fillet steak with lobster tail in a brandy sauce with asparagus. All delicious. I would’ve like to see a drinks menu as I was nervous about how much the drinks cost, but they just said ‘it’s a full bar - we can get you anything you want!’. I held back on my drinks slightly as I didn’t want a bad shock on the bill. If I’d known the cost I could’ve had another.... The bill for 2 courses for 2 people was $340 including tax and 20% tip. This included 3 glasses of chianti and 3 cocktails. We were quite full so skipped dessert as nothing jumped out at us - we had an extra drink instead! Our starters and mains were the more expensive dishes on the menu, (my scallops were $25 and steak $55) if you chose a pasta main it could cost a lot less. Valbella lived up to our expectations and if I’m lucky enough to be in NYC again I would love to go back.

Outstanding Experience!

By Munidog |

I'm not an experienced food critic by any means, but even I recognize "great". I was at Valbella last night with a group. The food was outstanding and the service bordered on incredible. Altogether, the experience was great for me, and I wanted to put in a good word. If you, go, try the "chocolate soup". (It's a souffle.) The tiramisu was also amazing. I can't wait to go back here!

Excellent service and food

Business dinner for 4. Fantastic food and service. Every dish was surprising in quality, taste and presentation. Serving size was ample. Manager/host was extremely sincere and appreciative for business. Was recommended by an assistant who has a great track record and didn't disappoint. Would definitely recommend for a very beautiful dinner and cozy ambience.

The food here is superb. Everything we ordered was beautifully served, and delicious. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

Sublime!

There’s eating, dining and then there’s Valbella. If you really want to treat yourself to excellence and feel like royalty for one night that’s the place to go. Food is outstanding. Service is excellent. Desserts are out of this world. Pure class and elegance.

Great Food

By Daniel C |

Love the pasta fusilli and tomato sauce, love the veal martini and the cesar salad. Get some wine and drink and enjoy the ambience.

fantastic food, surprisingly empty

By Gabriel |

The food was truly amazing, a perfectly prepared blend of traditional and creative, which came to the table at a good pace. The service was very good, and the ambiance was as well, though there were surprisingly few people there for dinner on a Friday night. It's a block off the main meatpacking drag, but that should not have left it so undiscovered. For groups, they have several private rooms upstairs that are beautiful.

Quality Italian

By Prescottdiner |

We were at Valbella in the Meatpacking District for a pre-nuptual dinner party. The atmosphere was friendly and noisy, all the basic feel of a "neighborhood" hangout. But the food was top quality. We had a wide variety of entrees to choose from. We started with a "pasta duo" of penne vodka and a parpardelle concoction that were both excellent. We chose the Veal "Martini" which was a sort of Milanese style. The portion was generous.

Upscale and pricey

By Debroz1111 |

This was our first visit. The service was impeccable. The waiters were top notch and extremely polite. The food was delicious and well-presented. The wine list is amazing however the wine bottle selection prices started at $125 and went up to $1000. Definitely not a place for anyone looking for a casual meal. Our bill for two people with a bottle of wine, two cocktails, salad, main course and dessert, with tip was just over $400. Definitely an upscale restaurant for a special occasion or for those where price does not matter.

A Special Night

By Lavallette2014 |

Dave, the owner, will make you feel special as you arrive. Service is top notch professional and friendly. Food is excellent and wine list, though pricey, is also excellent and you can find a few good values. The staff will help you if asked. I have attended an annual US Military fund raiser there several times and the food and service continue to be great. dave supports the Military with great prices, service and even buys a good deal of donated items.

Want to be treated in a RUDE MANNER…this is the place for you!

My husband and I went to Valbella last year in the Meat Packing Distict on 13th Street in nyc on the recommendation by Regis. The restaurant was empty, but we had exquisite service. This year it was awful. First, we had to wait for 20-25 minutes and we had reservations and the people walking in after us were being seated right away. Okay, I understand it's the Holiday Season and they do need to take care of their regulars. However when they finally seated us after I went up to them-I was seated with my back towards the room staring at a pole, so I moved my chair to the other side of the table. That's when the rudeness started. This was not acceptable and they let me know it. Then when I said I will sit on the other side then. From then on they bumped into me-the hostess, the waiters, the captain, the sommelier, the general manager- and how did I know it was on purpose-not one of them said excuse me. My $45 dollar lambchops had bones in them and I was ill when we got back to the room from the food on top of it. The waiter kept asking my husband how he liked his meal, did he need another cocktail, totally ignoring my presence. We were so disappointed after our 40 minute taxi ride because of the typical holiday traffic in the city. Well they won't miss our business because this year was packed. We won't miss their less then stellar service either. We have too many other places that we go to in the City and the service is fabulous and the people are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. They need to visit the 21 Club and Le Cirque-they treat us like family and we are in the city 4-5 times a year. We'll be dining elsewhere and you should too. (We did leave the standard 20% tip, but we are usually more generous if the service warrants it).

Believe what you read!

I know im super late on this review but time and obligations prevail. Went to visit my family in ( 1/2 in Femington NJ) and half in The City. Of course I am not a local, but have travelled and dined extensively. I rarely do these but one must be sure you will be treated as if you are truly cared for or family, and really great food. Im dying for some pasta with truffles (?) I forget entire name, but i truly have travelled a bit, and my brother in law chose a great place. I come back a few times yearly only due to job constraints but its a very fab establishment! Keep it up!

Amazing private dinner

By fran J |

There were 22 of us for a private dinner in one of the wine rooms. Highly recommend it. The cocktails were superb, top quality with interesting twists and garnishes. One of the most perfect Manhattan's that I have had. The passed appetizers were delicious and plentiful. Two that stood out were the artichoke hearts and the mushrooms with sausage and broccoli. The first two courses of dinner were served family style (recommend the orichetta (sp?) and the house tossed salad. Caesar was good but nothing as special as the house.) For dinner I had the veal medallions based on prior TA comments. First, enormous entrée. Who would have thought to melt a bit of brie like cheese over the top. It was over the top! The chocolate soufflé was also fabulous...somehow I managed to stop eating the veal to save room for the dessert. Our service was impeccable, neither too hovering nor too lackadaisical. The wine and water glasses were kept filled. Come to think of it, it was a good thing we were in the wine room so we didn't disturb the other happy patrons.

Simply the Best

By IndoOne |

Visited this restaurant for a work function, perfect from start to finish. The food was exceptional and the wines perfect. From the initial snacks thru to dessert the quality was beyond reproach. The staff were also fantastic, each one of them a NY character. This is a place for special occasions, quality without compromise. Not much more to say!

Stay away unless your a regular !!

By Robert K |

This was our first visit (and our last). When we sat down the place was almost empty at 6 pm. We were presented with a bread basket of decent but all the same italian bread.(not warmed). We perused the overpriced wine list (imagine $85 for Santa Margarita pinot grigio) and selected a nice wine which our very nice waiter brought quickly. We sipped our wine and looked at the menu for about 20 minutes during which the place began to fill up. We ordered 2 different salads which were excellent, shared a pasta and a main each. We noticed a manager fawning over many tables and presenting them with a salami and cheese platter upon being seated(which we did not get). While we were eating we noticed the same manager stopping at every other table to inquire how they were doing. We did have a problem. My wife's fish arrived incorrectly unsauced and when we sent it back it was returned with cold sauce. When we pointed this out to our waiter he took it back and completely redid it. Throughout our dinner the manager did not visit our tablet but focused his attention on several other tables. Overall the food and service were very good but the actions of the management spoiled this very expensive dinner. We dress very nicely and visit many high end restaurants and receive treatment commensurate with the quality of the restaurant. We were very unhappy being ignored in Valbella for no reason of our own. There are many fine choices in New York City so I would avoid Valbella Restaurant !!

One fine restaurant

By Neal C |

I have eaten here several times and always come away with the feeling that I have had a special experience. The preparation, quality and presentation of food is first rate, as is the service. They have an extensive wine list with some high end bottles but also some good choices at more levels. I usually stick to the reasonable side of the list and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant is1 block form the highline. In nice weather take a pleasant walk before or after dining.

Overpriced and underwhelming!

By ringo8553 |

OK...the service was great, but at 6pm the restaurant was pretty empty. Cocktails are $15 plus and cosmos came out different from each other. Calimari appetizer at $22 wasn't big enough to share, and the $40 plus pork chop served on cold broccoli rabe and potatoes had to be sent back to warm. Sorry, nothing special here. The other three diners enjoyed their meal, and desserts were great, but overall, I will try someplace else next time, because I just do not see the value here.

Best Napoleon in town

By Ana Carolina A |

What a great surprise/experience! We decided to have a late lunch with no expectations the restaurant was empty when we arrived only one table... We were greeted by a very nice and friendly waiter that made us feel very comfortable. He suggested us the burrata and a giant shrimp from South Africa that were absolutely delicious. As main course we also followed his suggestion salmon with a crab crust and pappardelle with ragú two winners!!! But the Real high that you cannot miss is the Napoleon just unforgettable and worth another visit!!!

Great place

By BabaAnne |

Extremely energetic place - great bar, great food, lots of energy & great people-watching - a definite place to which we will return

Excellent food, expensive

By Simon O |

We had a party of five at Valbella last night. Friendly, welcoming staff, well informed about the menu, and enthusiastic about their fare. Interesting and fun environment. We had the branzino, halibut, and pork, with a delicious starter salad. All excellent - but expensive . And the wine list is both ridiculously long and way overpriced, which is why this gets four stars not five!

Great food and great spot for business

By fkher |

Yet again Valbella delivered on the food, service and ambience. Great spot for a business meal as they have round table to accommodate up to 10 people and it is quiet enough so that you can hear the conversation. Tables are generously spread APART. Wonderful. The food is first rate and so is the wine list. Service is good Highly Recommend this spot for business dinners

Impecable service but average food

By Andy Bruce |

Will remember our waiter Sonny for a long time - great service and good advice on the food. Also gave a good recommendation for an after dinner beer. The food was not bad, but when I am in NY paying these types of prices I expect better. The creamy mozzarella starter was very good but the veal papparadelle was overcooked and not as tasty as it looked! A friend had the veal scaloppini and was also disappointed. In fairness the other friend loved his filet. I won't be back strictly due to the wine list. Very little on the red list under $150 per bottle which is just too high for some of the selections.

Not to be repeated

By Samia G |

We booked one of the wine cellar for a commencement diner.the restaurant situated in the meat pack area, trendy, nicely decorated with big long flowers vases all around the restaurant. We went to the room cellar, freezing , all of the guests were wearing summer clothes, the ground slippery, obviously the parquet was cleaned with oil!! No waiter could solve this problem in spite of the guests complaints.we started with a two kinds of pasta, over cooked, most of the plates were sent back half full? The endives salad looked as if it was prepared a day before. The only dish was very good was the filet mignon It was a disaster., for sure the wrong place to celebrate a commencement, especially having flew all the way from Jordan.

Wow, would return again

By AndySpyder |

Welcome, bar service, knowledge and attentiveness of the staff as well as the unique decor/ambiance all formed a great start to out business evening, and it only improved; the food was excellent and waiter service impeccable - I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, except to say, returning 6 weeks later, I couldn't get a table any night during my stay in NYC, so word must be spreading !

WOW !!!!

By bbsydney96 |

What a meal ! Valbella is all about Italian food done really well. The service is outstanding. Its all a bit pricey but it truly is worth every cent. Our meals were outstanding, the service from our waiter was sensational and the chocolate soufflé, like nothing I've ever tasted before. I loved this experience. We were a group of 5 on a round table so it was really social and great fun. I would certainly visit Valbella again, its outstanding.

Really nice Italian

By Global-EXEC-Travel |

I had the Veal prepared with a lemon Sauce for an entree which was preceded by a really nice pasta dish and a tasty salad with beats mixed in. The deserts were also very good. The food was light and not too heavy.

Hidden Gem

By PrimaM |

Good food excellent service we found this restaurant by googling best Italian restaurant in NYC. Our server Sonny is amazing he knows what he is serving excellent suggestions & portions. We're celebrating my husband birthday in NYC but this restaurant is not on our list to go to here in NY now it is the place to come back. I will highly recommend this restaurant to all our friends.

Birthday Dinner Delight

By P M |

Stopped in to dine in celebration of our sons 21st birthday. The meal was absolutely delicious from the charcuterie plate and buratta all the way through to the cheesecake and souffle for dessert. Our server and the other front of the house workers were attentive but not overbearing. They were quick to offer suggestions assist in any way necessary. They have a very extensive wine by the bottle list but a very limited selection by the glass. The by the glass selections were ok but would have been nice to have a broader selection from which to choose. They portion sizes were above average for what we have experienced in other nyc restaurants so that was a pleasant surprise. The ambience was nice but it did get pretty noisy which made it very difficult to carry on a conversation across the table without shouting. We very much enjoyed our dinner and look forward to returning.

Excellent Service, Quality, and Flavor

By Troy B |

We stumbled upon Valbella through the OpenTable app ... very fortunate. We arrived at 6:30pm, seated and offered drinks immediately. Our server knew the menu inside and out and recommended not only the excellent wine choice, but nearly all our entre's as well. Quality was fantastic and flavors exploded. I 4 star reviews certainly were not our experience. I'd go back without hesitation.

Romantic Dinner for Two

By Kathi W |

Valbella is one of my boyfriend's favorite restaurants, and after eating here last Friday, I know why. The atmosphere of this Italian gem is understated, the service of their top-notch staff highly professional and congenial (Thank you Ricky!), and the food is superb. I had Venison in Pomegranate Sauce and my boyfriend had the Pappardelle with peas, burata and mushrooms in a Veal Bolognese sauce. Both were sensational. Our entire experience made for a very special and romantic evening. I'm looking forward to returning, again and again!

FABULOUS!!!!!

By id9703 |

Definitely pricey but so worth every single penny! A absolute must is the linguini with truffle oil and pamesano reggiano. MOLTO MOLTO BENNE!

Simply Wonderful

By Carol L |

This restaurant offers everything in a dining experience that you would want and expect. From start to finish- simply wonderful. While the food is remarkable, the service is where you are swept off of your feet. I recommend this restaurant for those who ideally want a 'fine-casual' experience.

Tucked away a little gem

By floristonhall |

I've been here before a number of years ago but had forgotten how good it is. Not easy to find but worth it. The food is consistently good. A menu that makes it tough to decide. Great and inventive specials. Very attentive but relaxed service. Good seating area outside. Relaxed atmosphere. On my list of hidden gems.

Bland, Blah

By BPT |

Beautiful restaurant and wonderful service. Very disappointed in the food though, especially for the price of the evening overall. Had a seafood pasta starter. Lobster & shrimp were well cooked but the tomato based sauce was just bland. Main of short rib was not very tender and again lacking flavor. I normally would clean my plate, at the risk of exploding, to finish both short rib and pasta dishes!

Exceptional

By moonsgal |

The service is impeccable. The food is wonderful and creative. A most enjoyable evening. Great for couples or a group.

Good food, great service, but oh that wine list!

By Frank C |

Valbella is fine dining at its best. It has excellent service, is located in a hip and trendy neighborhood, requires reservations even on a week night, but the one thing missing is a nice selection of more modestly priced wines. There were perhaps three reds available for under a hundred dollars; otherwise look to pay from a hundred well on up. The veal chop was cooked to perfection but the portion is rather small. A side of pasta was delicious. Lamb chops and fish are also highly recommended. Great neighborhood, good vibe, a tad noisy, but a hip, hot, fun downtown spot. Pricey but worth it.

Our favourite restaurant in New York

By Jim70 |

This was our second time at Valbella and the food, wine, service and overall experience was first class. The food and wine menus are extensive. At the end of the night they insisted on buying us a drink we said we would have the same again so out came a bottle of red wine and bottle of champagne on them. The oysters are great and I do not usually eat Veal but it is to die for. Our waiter Sonny made the night also. This is a five star dinning experience which will not disappoint. Enjoy

Lovely atmosphere

By Fayann A |

This is a more mature scene. I went with colleagues last night and had an excellent time. I gone there several times and enjoyed every time. I had the veal last night but you can get branzino, chicken whatever you like. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Please have the experience. You will not regret it

Food and service were great, decor wasn't my thing...

By KCKC |

I had been here before just for drinks, and you can see my review below somewhere. At the time, I remember being impressed and thought that I'd like to return to eat here. Well my husband and I returned for dinner. The bar was moved up a half level and didn't really feel right to me. It was crowded and we felt we were in the middle of a private party, which.... we were. People were talking to each other over our heads etc... It was so loud we could barely hear ourselves talk. However, the pamesean cheese served for guests was noteworthy..delicious. At our table we found a waiter friendly and professional! Our food was terrific. I had the beef tenderloin medallions and the portion was larger than I had expected. My husband loved his stuffed veal chop. Yes, it was expensive but quite good. What I did not like was the decor. The back lit wall of wine is cool but that is really the only decor in this modern room. I found the room sterile in appearance. We sat in an area of the room that had a low ceiling which made the noise worse. Bottom line is the food, wine and service were great but the style of the restaurant was not for me. I will stick to more cozy restaurants.

Delicious meal for a special occasion

By FiandFam |

We decided to celebrate our 10th anniversary here after a recommendation from our concierge, and we were not disappointed. High end Italian tantalised the tastebuds accompanied by a selection of divine wines. The service is excellent and the decor gives an intimate yet contemporary ambience; fitting for the Meatpacking district. Try to get a window table if available (would definitely recommend booking) and you can also enjoy watching the world go by.

Great place for italian food in NYC

By Sandra Völler |

We had a great time for an italian dinner with a large group of people. Perfect service and real good food. Loved the fish and the desserts!

Bland and wildly overpriced. Go anyplace else

By readytogoagain |

We would have never picked this place voluntarily. We had dinner here at the bequest of family. The first thing that strikes you when you sit down is the outlandish menu prices. My companion had a grilled fish that went for $45 and had no flavor as it seemed pouched rather than even grilled. No spices. Butter, wine, or anything else to give it any flavor. For $45 it should have been to die for and it was not. It was not even filleted properly as bones were still present. I had a pasta dish with garlic and oil. Again no flavor and almost no garlic taste. The meat that came with it was not good either. No flavor. Broccoli Rabe that came with it had no taste either. $30 for this? The bill for 2 entrees and 2 soft drinks was almost $100. I've better food at a chain restaurant then this place. So I can't understand why it has many positive reviews. Several describe it as "tourist trap" and may be being in the Chelsea area near the Highline now qualifies this part of town for that. Yet you have 2 superb Stephen Starr restaurants (Buddakan & Morimoto) right here too as well as Spice Market and some nice looking casual places right inside Chelsea Market. Who knows what else is an option as I don't know this revitalized area of the city to well. The bread basket test: if what comes out 1st is superb, so shall the meal be. Here there was no effort made: just a cold but OK rustic bread. You were left to place your own olive oil on a plate if you wanted to dip. At the used-to-be good Macaroni Grill chain the would make a show out of mixing it with black pepper on a small plate. Other places put the olive oil in a small dipping unit, maybe along side some other unique spreads. Here: nothing. So I know there are soon-many good Italian places in NYC with far more reasonable prices. So I can't imagine why you would ever want to come here. If you want really-expensive Italian Food walk a couple blocks over to Mario Batali's Del Posto and at least enjoy what is supposed to be outstanding food for your financial toilet flush.

Now THAT's Italian!

By Carol138 |

I have been to this restaurant twice before and this past experience did not disappoint! Service by Franco was spectacular (how does he remember all of those specials?)! The entrees were all wonderful - we all had fish and it was perfectly prepared and flavorful. We split the Tramisu and it was one of the best I have ever had. We were all surprised that the restaurant was not busier on a Friday night. If you are looking for a great dining experience - Valbella is it!

Luxury meets comfort

By Dana T |

Superb atmosphere and great food. One of my favorite dessert "Napoleon." The owner David will always greets you and make you feel special and welcomed.

Great food, excellent presentation, superior service

By Frank C |

The title really says it all, about Valbella, located in NYC's Meatpacking District. Their pastas are creative, and since they offer half portions should be included in your selections. They are so accommodating that they'll split a portion as well. I ordered their veal chop, and while expensive, medium came out absolutely medium. Service is impeccable, what it should be at a high end and high priced restaurant such as this one.

Great Italian Restaurant in the Meat Packing District of NYC

By Jo v |

Fantastic restaurant, beautiful décor, attentive service and reasonably priced for NYC. I had the porkchops stuffed with cheese and prosciutto which was lovely. My daughter had chicken in pastry which she loved. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would love to return when I'm in NYC.

Classy Italian!

By 77JAP |

Went to Vabella at lunch on the 16th Oct. Very attentive service from the outset, everything that was asked for was brought promptly. The bread, olive oil and balsamic was extremely good and when we asked for a little parmesan – this was freshly grated and brought to the table. For my starter I had foie gras with a port reduction and figs. Really complemented each other. My main course was breaded veal scallop and salad. Delicious. This was washed down with 2 lovely glasses of house red! Left feeling very satisfied and definitely recommend Vabella.

Great place!

By Trvlstrp |

We had a really delightful dinner here last night. The service was superb. I had veal and my hubby had filet and lobster tail. Both of the dishes were great. We didn't get dessert but saw a really delicious napoleon that I wish we had ordered!

Amazing

We went there May of 2013 and it was AMAZING!! We were with several couples. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. We tried several different dishes and wines. I only wish I would have took pictures.

Great Dining Experience

By AreBe1 |

We had party of ten for daughter's birthday. Food and service were impeccable. We ordered some dishes on the menu, off the menu and their specials for that night. All was delicious including the molten lava cake. Our server (wish I got his name) was extremely polite, professional, and attentive. We all loved it. It was our first time there and certainly won't be our last. Thank you Valbella for a memorable meal!

Excellent food & ambience but a bit rushed

By evansclan |

Valbella is one of my favourite restaurants in the meatpacking district and whilst the food & wine was excellent, I did get the feeling that the staff were really keen to turn our table very quickly. The gap between our starter and main meal was way too fast (a bit like speed-dating) and I had to insist that the delivery of our desert be slowed down. I'll put this down to a really busy Friday night at the restaurant; it was a shame because Valbella is a great place.

Noisy, expansive with good food

By theoneandonlyArnold |

was there with a group for a business dinner. we reserved weeks ago but the table we got was in an extremely noisy area, actually next to us was a very noisy birthday party going on and they just put up a thin curtain... the food was good, prices extremely high and the immense noise level killed any conversation .... the evening was lost ! very bad experience, they didnt advise anything before nor offered an alternative.

Outstanding Rehearsal Dinner

By mcondon61 |

I hosted 91 people at Valbella for a rehearsal dinner. Everyone loved it. The menu was great and the service was outstanding. Many in attendance said it was their best experience. I cannot say enough good things about our night. We were upstairs in the wine room.

Downhill

By Keith W |

Fresh Parm and antipasta when you sit down - gone Attentive well timed service - nope - rushed and indifferent Great food - no, pretty good food at. Wet high prices Once this was my go to for a great meal - not so much anymore - wow how you have gone downhill

Excellent Dinner in Classy Environs

By Bill W |

We enjoyed this fancy restaurant… The waiters were classy and kind… The martinis were made to specifications… The carpaccio was delightful… And I would recommend trying the short rib entrée… All in all this was a special evening and we will visit again…

Awesome evening!

Our hotel front desk At Bryant Hotel “JO” referred us to this beautiful restaurant . Two girlfriends looking for upscale midtown restaurant . Was a close walk. Large doors and indiscreet sign welcome you to this beautiful restaurant! Very happening bar even though It was a Monday night. Had Julie an Diana take such wonderful care of us! Wonderful cocktails and best fruit di Mare ever had! Can’t wait till return!

Simply Elegant and Delicious

By Stephanie C |

First I confess I have been here 3 times when visiting the city and have never had a bad meal! This is one of the best restaurants in the city and you can not go wrong with anything you order. During this last trip I enjoyed the Black Truffle Pasta and Short Rib Ravioli for starters along with a fresh and tasty seafood plate with prawns so large one was filling yet there were 4! The porter house and the branzino are delicious and truly you can not go wrong with any of the deserts but as many reviewers described the Napoleon is pretty amazing! Located in the Meatpacking district this is the place where the locals dine!

Great place, great food.

By Jim R |

This is a high-end Italian restaurant with great food and interesting decor. My wife loved the pasta and I had the a delicious veal chop.

Great Service & Food

By vinoron |

I was invited to lunch at Valbella's Ristorante in the Meatpacking District (13th Street near 11th Ave) to meet Argentina's Greatest Winemaker Jose Antonio "Pepe" Galante. (There are several other locations for Valbella restaurants). Our small group used one of the five private dining rooms on the second floor. In addition there is a chef's table in the kitchen. All the private dining rooms are surrounded by wine racks that serve as storage for their extensive wine collection. If you are lucky Sani will be your captain. He is knowledgeable about food, wine and cheese. Our menu was set to match the five wines served. I can't wait to return to sample their regular menu.

A terrific place to go after a visit to The Whitney

By Alice S |

I reserved for lunch here for an after-Whitney visit, although the Zagat review said it was noisy, because the food was highly rated. We were three, my husband, an old college friend visiting the city, and me. I must say, it was quiet and wonderful. Yes, it's apparently noisy but that's at night! Well, the food, the wine and the service was spectacular. Our server, could not have been nicer. He had wonderful suggestions, offered half portions and was attuned to our desires. We started with a gift from the chef, parmagiano reggiano with sausage, and had a burratta special for the three of us. Our friend, who was having an early dinner in Chinatown, had grilled octopus and my husband and I shared a fabulous papperdelle with bolognese. They had wonderful Kistler chardonnay and I had a glass of Estancia pinot noir. Dessert was a plate of cookies. I can't say enough how much we enjoyed each others' company and the quiet (at least at that time of day) surroundings. It was a perfect lunch, not cheap but worth it.

We went there May of 2013 and it was AMAZING!! We were with several couples. The food was excellent and the service was just as good.

Hands Down a "Must" for a Special Celebration

By CJ Goes |

Attentive from the moment you call to the good bye and thank you at the end of an enjoyable evening. Valbella is a must for any special celebration. Second time at that venue and this one excelled our first visit last May. We reserved a private, wine room for our party of 14, selected 4 courses from special menu and were so satisfied. The crowd raved at the delicious Northern Italian food with the freshest ingredients as well as the super attentive service from Gianni and team. They don't miss a beat or detail. Excellente.

Dinner w/friends

By Pil255 |

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Reservation was at 9pm but was available for earlier times. Book on Open Table. Restaurant is very clean. Typical NYC parking outside. We used a car service. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was a little loud as we are in the main dining room downstairs. Didn't explore the upper level. Not sure if there is more romantic accommodations. All the food was great. Mozzarella app, calamari, bread, all was good. Drinks were well poured. I had the filet which was amazing. Tried the ricotta gnocchi dish w/filet ragu. Amazing. Chilean sea bass was very good. Not too pricey. Everything was great and would definitely go back.

Excellent dining experience - food and service first class!

By Michael Y |

The moment we walked in and were greeted we just knew this was going to be a good night. Informative and friendly service, cocktails that were spot on, a broad menu set the night up perfectly. We had pasta for starters and the pork tenderloin for mains ..... loved them all. Chocolate lava cake to finish and we headed off after a couple of enjoyable hours vowing to return.

Dinner after a matinee

By Cheryl G |

We got there early and had wonderful service; although it appears this restaurant always has wonderful service. They provide a leisurely pace and are very helpful with the menu and wines.

Excellent!

By Kajunintn |

Visited during the holidays. The ambience was lively and picturesque. The waitstaff all were very energetic, helpful, convivial, and focused on making us happy. Great atmosphere for a large group or a small twosome(like us). The food we had did not disappoint. From the antipasta special to the entree. Everything was tastefully presented in a very timely fasion. I would highly recommend, as you will not find this place easily. It is off the beaten path in the meatpacking district. We will recommend to friends, and return next time in the city!

Extraordinary Cuisine

By Ahg2 |

Outstanding food, service. The pastas are fresh and the sauces were excellent. The specials are numerous so try and pick out what you think you are interested in as they are announced. The wait staff was extremely attentive while maintaining a friendly face. Atmosphere was excellent, minor background noise allowing the table to carry on a conversation in a pleasant atmosphere. The wine list is filled with a wide variety but bring money, it's expensive.

GREAT FOR PARTIES

By R K |

You want to throw a celebration / holiday party well this may be your place. Fortunate enough to be invited to a number of events here - Valbella just does it right. With the understanding this is high ($) end - Valbella meets expectations. High quality food served by professionals. Pick hors d'oeuvres from one waiter - a 2nd follows to take your toothpick and used napkin. Drinks are quickly refilled as waiters take your glass - you don't even have to approach the bar. The upstairs dining area is comfortably laid out. Individual rooms for different food options A seafood dining room / A cheese and antipasti room / A pasta room. Also upstairs you have a spacious main dining area if you prefer to stretch out and enjoy your meal. Dancing areas are both upstairs & downstairs - ambience is festive. Important note: On a more recent event unexpected main courses arrived later in the evening after a number of guests left. Perhaps if a "dining schedule" was offered upon arrival more guests would have stayed and enjoyed these dishes as they should not have been missed.

An Amazing Dinner

By 3508Nana |

My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary evening at Valbella's while visiting NY. The decor is contemporary. I loved the twinkling white lights. It was very busy and a little loud, however. The food was delicious. We had beef and veal, and both were prepared perfectly. The pasta beforehand was amazing- melt in your mouth! The wine "book" is very extensive and expensive but our server helped us select an appropriate bottle of wine for our two entree selections. The service is very professional and attentive. This will be an expensive evening but worth every penny if you choose to go!

Brilliant Northern Italian in Meatpacking District

By 49viaggio |

Lively, happening venue. Owner greets customers, truly professional wait staff and servers. Extensive and expensive wine lists. Food is of exceptional quality - fresh and properly prepared. Daily special risotto with shrimp and white asparagus was truly wonderful. Starter seafood platter of lobster tail, lump crab and shrimp also excellent. Rack of Colorado lamb was properly prepared (although it was served with mint jelly -an anachronistic practice). I will return here on my next visit to NYC.

Best Anniversary Dinner Ever

By mab4442018 |

Our party of 6 were in New York to celebrate a 20th wedding anniversary. Elva and her team were inviting and the food was tremendous. Thanks to Elva, we were able to sit in one of their private dining wine rooms and had one of the best dining experiences we have ever had. It beat the Michelin starred restaurants we ate at during our trip by a multiple of 10. Phenomenal.

Very good

By Thetravelinman |

Great service, fairly priced, portions are what you'd expect. Very good food. Definitely recommend if in the meat packing district and looking for an upscale Italian meal.

Noioso...

By island04575 |

A single traveler, I stopped in early after visiting the Whitney, because of reviews here. I was not so impressed, and wanted to be. The greeting was warm, but the bartender was either uniformed, or just uninterested. I asked for comparisons and she gave me a bland "they're all good." The wine list by the glass (wine being one of the mentioned high points in other reviews) was really limited and not in any way special. In my entire weekend in NYC I experienced much more enthusiasm elsewhere - including noodle shops. The food, particularly the venison was good - but I felt I got there in spite of the service. If value is your objective, I would strongly suggest that in spite of the other reviews you're not going to get it here.

Amazing ambiance and delicious food

By MrsRI |

My husband and I ate at Valbella for our anniversary ....the ambiance/atmosphere is spectacular! Our waiter was very nice and gave wonderful service....our meals were delectable..y husband had a veal chop and I had veal also... It is pricey but well worth it. The only thing that they could change is the wine list because that was super pricey and could be cheaper. We will definitely dine there again.

Great place for a Holiday Dinner

By BHP_Canada |

Attended for a corporate holiday dinner: about 50 of us in a perfect sized room. Amzingly, there were at least 3 other parties going on at the same time and, aside from getting lost to and from the rest room, I never would have known they were there. Service was good, food was great, and the venue was truly perfect. Only (tiny) complaint was that it was hard ti find from outside .. although just follow the numbering system and you find it easily.

In this city full of restaurants, why choose this one?

By Christopher C |

While the menu is tempting (I really couldn't decide), the food was hit or miss. We were a big group (10) so we were able to share many items. Simply prepared dishes seemed to shine. More elaborate preparations became leaden and dull. If you're a fan of truffles, this is your restaurant. If not, the staff was good about making substitutions. Wine list is solid. Seafood was served piping hot. Speaking of service, it was overblown, out of touch, and at times patronizing. Don't order the desserts. Even though they are made in house, they are pedestrian and unimagined, you'd be better off with an after dinner drink.

Great Ambience

By CliffordCar |

This restaurant was a surprise diner for my wife for our anniversary. The place is absolutely charming inside and really sets the mood right for a intimate dinner. Though it was busy it felt like it was just us. The wine section is extensive (2 actual books) was a little overwhelming till we got some suggestions. The steak was perfect that I ordered and my wife loved the bolognese. Might have to make this place a ritual. Loved it.

Birthday meal. Great food

By Timberley1 |

I heard amazing things about this place and the food didn't disappoint. The server who was helping us was brilliant. He was knowledgeable and understood our needs. Unfortunately another staff member did dampen the overall experience with his rude manner. I believe he was called Peter and Polish i think. He was very abrupt and pushy when we were sorting the bill saying you've not done the tip. Do the tip! But we hadn't finished getting the money collected between the friends. This was no way to speak to customers. In the UK a tip is earned not expected and when we do give tips it's appreciated as they know it's for great service. In this case he wad rude and not deserving of a tip.

Best Italian outside of little Italy

By John P |

Located in the meat packing district, this is a must dine restaurant for those individuals desiring, IMO, the best Italian Food that I have ever had! I can highly recommend any of the veal and or shrimp dishes, and the Caesar salad, topped off with a plank of parmesan cheese, was outstanding. The service was excellent and our waiter was very attentive in spite of a busy night. Reservations and a cc card required!

Superb Italian Reatuarant

By Bevis6 |

One of many great restaurants in the Meatpacking District which comes alive at night. A stones throw from The Standard Hotel this place will not disappoint. Nice private dining room upstairs for group. Good for groups and couples. Too many great menu options to single anything out.

THis place is just fantastic. Great great food all the way from apps to main course to desert . Services is just fantastic. One of the best places i have ever eaten.

Awesome food & Grrreat service

By Jerseygirlgirlfriend |

Recently had my husband's Xmas party here. Was set up in a private room as a cocktail party with served appetizers and a cold raw bar. Let me say, service and the food were off the charts. Raw oysters, lump crab meat, Huge shrimp and lobster, cooked & put back in clean tail shells. All were served to you. Other appetizers were passed around, tuna tartar , chilean sea bass, veal & any wine or cocktail imaginable. Service was so awesome, before you were done chewing, someone was offering you another! Bite side appetizers were also passed which were very good. All while the restaurant was still serving dinner. Bottom line, food was superb, service, even better & I consider myself "tough" & a "foodie".

A most memorable evening

By Cappio |

The food is excellent, but overshadowed by the stellar wine list. I did not get beyond Italian reds (so deep are their listings), but I dream of Brunello like what we drank Saturday night. Also, the service deserves special notice. We had a noise complaint concerning a neighboring table (we don't begrudge anyone a good time, but it was keeping our party from being able to talk). It was dealt with in the most courteous and intelligent way possible, and in a way that basically guarantees that we will be long term patrons of the restaurant. A level of service that is almost unheard of today.

service service service

By Sak3md |

the service is so amazing you will be spoiled going elsewhere and the food merits better reviews than it gets on other sites--definitely worth trying

An ok meal

By bcsfromsydney |

Nothing memorable but the again we were there with a group of 150 so we were left with a choice of steak or salmon. The steak was ok. The salad entree was probably the highlight.

Great dinner!

By Diane V |

Great atmosphere, service, food and drinks! Must get the Nepolean dessert! So good!!!! Good bar, as well, for cocktails before dinner!

Great dinner, real Italian food

By Tiberius V |

The General manager - who might actually also be one of the owners welcomed us... it was our anniversary and when the manager found out he brought us two glasses of champagne, which I later found out he comped for us... totally unexpected. Sea bass was great, the salami and cheese plate they bring at the beginning with fresh bread was a nice starter- complementary for all. Highly recommend. Make sure you make reservations ahead of time.

Excellent food and extensive, but pricey wine list

By Mark S |

I hosted a business dinner for a small group (8) recently and everyone really enjoyed the food and wine. We had excellent service throughout. My only complaint was the markup on the wines. I expect the usual 2-3x - but found 5x retail to be fairly common on the wine list. I was able to find a really good and OK priced wine that we all enjoyed. I would definitely go back for the food and carefully select the wine!

Do not go there

By Amsterdammer1804 |

Ridiculously overpriced, arrogant staff. We left after the first drink after seeing the prices on the winelist. Hardly any wine below $100.

Should be much better

By JogNy |

This branch of Valbella is located in the Meatpacking District, which to begin with is one of the most overpriced and pretentious places in New York. There's a reason why you won't find the prices listed on Valbella's menu: They're very high, even for that neighborhood. Like many places, it suffers from a design style that makes the whole place look like an unfinished construction site. The food was pretty unexciting; Pollo Diavolo, for instance, chicken with sausage, should be spicy hot, which it was, but otherwise uninteresting. The sausage was good enough but the chicken was without flavor. Likewise Chilean sea bass, which is so tasty on its own, but they managed to prepare it without any flavor. Other dishes I tried were likewise bland. The service was pretty terrible. One waiter sounded like he was working there only because he failed the audition for "The Sopranos." OK, I'm not trying to make fun of the guy, but I expect a bit of refinement in a place like this. The waiters managed to consistently deliver the wrong dishes to our party of 11 people. At one point, they placed the wrong plate in front of one person, who used it to sample another diner's dish, and left some unfinished food on it. When she realized the mistake and pointed it out to the waiter, he merely scooped off the bit of food and placed the plate in front of the correct diner, not even bothering to change the plate. Waiters pouring drinks managed to hit me in the head with their arms a couple of times, and apparently didn't even notice, let alone apologize. I have no idea what this meal cost, since our host paid, but whatever it was, it wasn't worth it.

Always amazing!

By Emma S |

I LOVE Valbella. I've attended many private parties in the wonderful upstairs wine rooms and pastry kitchen, as well as dinners in the main dining room with family. This restaurant never disappoints. Classy and elegant with a modern vibe, great service, and delicious food. Best Italian food in NYC if you ask me. Definitely in my top list of restaurants in the city.

Meatpacking’s Best

By BIGMIKE275 |

Another fantastic Dinner with my wife for our anniversary. We split the artichoke salad, excellent. My wife has the lamb Val Bella ... she said it melted in her mouth that had a very distinct taste. I had the Berkshire Pork chop WOW ... also fantastic. We finished up with what is probably the best dessert you ever tasted: their made in house Napoleon. HOLY MOLY .... a light wafer crust, filled with cream that harkens me back to when I was a little boy and grandma let me lick the blender blade when she made cream for her pastry shells !! Valbella .... a must visit when you want a romantic dinner in a beautiful setting. And if you’ll feeling adventurous after dinner walk across the street and go up to the dance floor at the top of the Standard Hotel. YOLO ... :)

Great experience

By mq0015 |

Food was amazing and the service impeccable. The waiter made fantastic recommendations with wine and food. There is a notable wine list and great atmosphere for a romantic special occasion.

WOW

By Krass12345 |

Went there for the second time. The quality of the food is just outstanding. Even coming from Europe and travelling a lot in Italy the food couldn't be better there. Every dish is made to perfection, the staff is very friendly, restrooms are very clean. If I had to criticize anything then it would be the pricing of the wine. As a wine lover I know the prices and they charge 4 to 5 times the cellar prices. Quite steep. On the other hand I chose a bottle that cost 450 $, and when I tasted it I thought that it had a problem and refused it and that was no problem at all. I could chose another wine and later I talked with the owner, we retasted the first wine and I had to admit that it was ok after all. To my astonishment he brought a second pair of glasses and refilled our glasses twice with that wine, I only had to pay for one bottle. We will certainly return again.

Just ok

By Gene G |

For the price point and the ready location you really expect more. The pork braciole pasta was excellent. However the pounded veal chop was tasteless and the crust was like the old shake and bake. The service was very good. They oversold a seafood appetizer that wasn't very good.

Authentic upscale Italian food in the meatpacking district

By Toni S |

This is a part of a mini chain with similar restaurants in midtown and CT. It is rather large, with sitting on the first and second floor, the latter used for private party. The place is elegant and comfortable. The food is italian-mediterranean-continental and everything we had had prime quality and was very well prepared. The italian pastas offer a selection of different regions and is superb, but so was the meat and the fish. Great dessert and the service was professional and efficient.

Amazing Romantic Meal

By Mandy2222 |

My boyfriend and I went to Valbella in the Meatpacking this weekend and had the most FABULOUS meal ever. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and a very romantic setting. The food was phenomenal, we got the filet minon (perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth) best steak we have ever had. We also had the penne rose which was amazing also. We got two of the antipastos that were on special, also very very good! The service was great made you feel right at home I would definatley recommend this restaurant. A tad on the pricey side but worth every penny!

Customers Beware!

By Kaitlynn M |

So disappointed. I have been going to Valbella's in Greenwich, CT for almost every important occasion in my childhood. My family threw their NYE party in 2000 there. My cousin held his engagement party at the Meat Packing location shortly after they opened. So when my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to NYC, I couldn't think of a more fabulous place to have dinner. I remembered how amazing their truffle cream sauce over penne was from the numerous events they catered to our family. When the waiter announced it was available as a special and we could have it as an appetizer, of course I did not hesitate to order. The waiter assured us that this was one of his favorites and mentioned "he would add something special to it." When it was delivered to the table he arrived with a truffle which he shaved over each of our dishes. Although it tasted like heaven on earth, I was perplexed when the bill arrived. The waiter charged us $60 for a $25 half order of pasta with truffle cream sauce because he added the truffle shavings. He took advantage of what he clearly thought to be tourists. His ability to be so unethical and slimy does not reflect on the entire Valbella Restaurant Group well. Tony the old maitre d would have never allowed this! Customers please beware of this hideous behavior that has somehow taken precedence over maintaining a loyal customer.

A Wonderful Evening

By travelguy21776 |

After reading all of the reviews about price being an issue, I may have given this restaurant four stars. Since we came here as guests of some amazing new friends, price was not an issue. So I am going off of the food only. The food was simply amazing. We had a smorgasbord of seafood appetizers, soups, salads, pastas, steak, fish, crab, lobster, desserts, fine wine. You name it, we had it. Everything was perfect. It was an honor to be guests of this fine restaurant. We really enjoyed our evening here. You have to try the Neopolitan. Amazing!!!

Simply outstanding

By ronneedham |

Cannot recommend this highly enough. High end Italian in a great location. If you want a beverage before or after the meatpacking district, where it is located, is perfect.

Wow! What a place!

By Steve74017 |

The price is high, but the food, service and atmosphere are outstanding. We were with a group and they seated us upstairs in one of the private wine rooms. The service was excellent along with great food and wine. If you can afford this place make sure you give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Great Italian food in an traditional warm friendly Italian restaurant.

By steve1860 |

we had a great evening at Valbella. I had heard great things about this restaurant and was keen to try it. The food and the service did not disappoint. The Carpaccio Di Manzo tasted fresh and full of flavour. I could taste the quality of the food I was eating. My partner and shared a Ravioli Aragosta that was divine. The veal, Costoletta Di Vitello, was superb as was my partners Truffle crusted chicken tasted fantastic. Pollo al Tartufo. A very enjoyable evening of fine Italian dining, starched table cloths, cheeky and humorous waiters, a great wine list. Very enjoyable.

Una bella esperienza da pranzo!

By JB10001 |

While I've had many excellent meals, the dining experience at Valbella was nothing short of perfect. The owner (?) greeted us at the door by saying, "Welcome home." The bar and wait-staffs attended to our party of 4 as if we were royalty. The restaurant decor is stunning. The food was wonderfully prepared, presented, and we licked our plates clean. We started with a seafood platter and carpaccio, and then to a pasta course of homemade fettuccine in a creamy truffle sauce and penne in a fresh tomato and basil sauce. For entrees, the veal scallopine was killer and tender enough that no knife is necessary. The bronzino was fileted and served with broccoli rape--magnifico! The double cut veal chop draped with wild boar bacon should be illegal. For dessert, we shared a chocolate souffle that was quite tasty, but the Naploen... the Napoleon! The Naploeon was hands down the best I've ever had, and I've run with a few pastry chefs in my time. One of our party is a restrateur and he confirmed that I wasn't being delusional. I left the table between courses to explore the restaurant. The upstairs has a few rooms for smaller parties (10-40?). I am booking one of the rooms for a family party that I am having. The decor (this bears repeating) is interesting, different and quite tasteful. Do not overlook this unassuming looking (from the outside) gem in Meatpacking.

Extraordinaryily good Italian cusine

By Anders B |

Went here for a business dinner on a Saturday night. Didn't do my research, so I was blown away right away by the service and attention from staff. Had pasta for starter (half order), bacon-wrapped beef for main and a desert the like of which I have never tasted before (an odd log sprinkled with flakes of nuts) The wine list here is exceptional! What a wonderful experience here: a splendid blend of great ambiance, great staff, and world-class food and wine. see you there very soon! Only minus: insane noise when the restaurant is full on a Saturday night. We yelled at each other across the table all night. Only minus

Amazing service

By Yotav C |

Been there with some colleges and I really enjoyed from an amazing service and quality italian food. Great wine collection, ask them what is there preferred wine.

Best branzino ever!!!

By diazarceo |

Excellent italian restaurant!! Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff attending there was like a group if though Italian guys coming out of The Sopranos but attentive. The scallops with foie gras and the oysters were fantastic. The wine menu outstanding (not cheap but it is worthy). And the king of the night was an extraordinary Branzino. The best I have tried. Desserts are also a must. We went for the Tiramisu which was excellent and something that I had never tasted THE NAPOLEON. You have to try it!!!!

Trendy, hip spot and the kitchen delivers

By travelingman921 |

In the ultra hot, meatpacking district near the high line, this stylish looking and expensive restaurant serves up the goods. The homemade papardelle was excellent as was the duck special. The freshly made baked Napolean was a spectacular dessert.

Great dinner

By Vicki M |

I was in NYC on business and was recommended this restaurant. The special pasta that evening - Lamb Ragu with Orecchiette was really good. It also included morels. I went with a work colleague but would suggest that this restaurant is more for couples or groups of friends than business.

Best Italian in Meat Packing District

By BerryErwanto |

We were looking for a place to eat around our hotel, and I open the Trip Advisor app, and I found this restaurant is particularly near. So I said why not make a reservation. I went there with my boyfriend, and they put us in a quite huge round table, I found it amusing. ;) Looking at the price in the menu seems like pretty pricey, but we said what the heck we're in holiday. But when the food arrived I know exactly why we paying a big bucks, because it worth the taste. It was Devine. So if you're around the area, why don't you give it a try. But also be prepared with the loaded credit cards. ;-)

Delicious, beautifully prepared food. Wonderful service, creative decor.

By travelmore056 |

The pasta infused with truffle oil (a signature dish) was perfection! Entrees- veal chop, salmon also excellent, and wonderful presentation. Best Napolean I have ever eaten- l am still dreaming about it! Our server, Sani was the best. He was very accurate and knowledgeable about the menu, and his suggestions were excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. We will be back!

Don’t Bother Making reservations unless you’re a regular! SAME Lousy Service Different Night!

By gymtandrink |

We were meeting friends who like the place so we decided perhaps their rudeness of the staff the last time was a fluke-WRONG!!! We had to wait for 20-25 minutes and we had reservations and the people walking in after us were being seated right away. Okay, I understand do need to take care of their regulars. However when they finally seated us after I went up to them. This time I tried the $45 steak. The meal was cold and they let me know I was bothering them because I sent it back to the kitchen.to get heated. The other couple was surprised-we told them we were not and then told them what happened the last time(see review Dec. 23, 2013). No service until we asked for the check. Well you know the expression: Once shame on them, Twice shame on me AND there will not be a third time! GO TO 21 CLUB or Le CIRQUE!

Great option for Meatpacking District

By Mark E |

There are a lot of choices in the meatpacking district for trendy dining and this place is a solid choice for Italian fare. Very trendy decor with a South Beach feel but what I really liked about it was that the tables were not too cramped and despite it being a saturday night and full it didn't feel crazy crowded or too loud that our table couldn't hold a conversation. Great wine list. They have gluten-free pasta and wheat pasta as choices for those that need that. All four of us enjoyed our food and the service was great. No complaints here.

Very nice vibe and location - mixed on food

By Michael G |

Was very glad to try Valbella based on reviews and location. Is in the Meat Packing District, very cool location and vibe. Greeted immediately, lovely drinks at the bar (brought out complimentary cheeses and meats - nice touch). Service was very good, above average wine list. Some of the dishes were very good - others were average (like the ravioli). Over all it was a very nice experience - typical expensive NY prices.

Overpriced

By Gino P |

As an Italian, personally, I am offended. It’s good food don’t get me wrong, but nothing special. Completely overpriced. Italian food is peasant food at heart. We aren’t french and we don’t try to be haute cuisine, as it isn’t meant to. A 40 dollar pasta dish is a Ponzi scheme.

One of the best meals of my life!!!

By Marc T |

We were a party of 8 and had 7 courses, each course was perfection. One of the highlights was a small pasta dish and the server pulled out a huge white truffle and sliced beautiful morsels on our dish. For dessert the ladies were invited by the pastry chef to help make our desserts. Truly a great meal.

PERFECTO !

Amazing food, great service, SUPER recommended. The food was nothing but art and yet was served very quick. The meat was AMAZING, same with the fish

An excellent Italian restaurant

Great location in the midst of the Meatpacking district and a short walk from the Standard Hotel. Really good food, combined with an excellent wine list and great service.

Another great meal!!!

By Marc T |

We started with drinks at the bar and were served soprasetta and parmigiano reggiano on a plate as a snack. Once seated we had the beef short rib ravioli which was delicious as an appetizer, I had the filet and it was tender and tasty. We had a variety of desserts with port and they were incredible. The owner came by a couple of times to make sure everything was alright. All in all an excellent evening!!!

Top quality New York hospitality

By Gary W |

From our greeting on arrival, with a fantastic array of canapés and champagne our large party of 24 had a serious dose of New York hospitality in this vibrant restaurant in the meat packer district. We had a great private room with quality attentive service our host was a great Italian with all the patter. All the food was excellent, good portion size beautifully presented, even a birthday cake conjured up with no notice. When in New York you just have to go

Impressive Food, Wine, and Service

By Travelwld |

NY upscale dining in an inviting yet classy atmosphere in the heart of the meat packing district. The menu originates from Italian roots but you will find some surprises. Excellent quality food and wine with service that is exceptional. Aside from the main dining room, there is Intimate dining in private wine rooms or the pastry chef's kitchen but book in advance! Great for friendly, romantic, or business dining. Also, staff is great to work with for parties where you may have prefixe menus. If you can't tell, we have had repeat dinners here since it is so good. Also try the midtown or CT locations.

Not What I expected

I felt the food was not outstanding and the service was very disappointing. We sat for quite some time before being offered menu's.

Owner of Valbella Has No Integrity

By Elizabeth W |

I hosted a private dinner for a very large group of business clients at Valbella in the Meatpacking District a few months ago. We spent in excess of $10K. On the night of the event, I arrived early to pick out the wines for the dinner. I met with who I thought was the manager of the restaurant but found out later that he was actually one of th co-owners. His name is David. He never introduced himself as the owner. In any event, I requested to taste some red and white wines so that I could pick out the ones we'd serve for the event and advised David that I did not want to spend more than $100-120/bottle. Rather than listening to my request, he kept trying to offer me much more expensive wines and I kept telling him that I did not want to spend more than $120/bottle. I was actually laughing during the process as he kept ignoring my request and bringing me wines that were $150 or more/bottle. He was extremely pushy. I told him that I've been hosting events like this for many years at fine restaurants all around the country - including NYC - and I never spend more than $100-120/bottle. I advised that most times, I manage to keep the price below $100/bottle. There was one particular Chardonnay that I liked and then he told me the price was somewhere in the neighbor of$145-155/bottle. I laughed again and said I could not spend that much and that I'd like to try a different one. Instead, he offered it to me at $120/bottle. I indicated that if he offered it to me at that price then I would definitely like to serve that wine at our dinner. I continued to try out some reds that he was showing me and found a Pinot Nior that I liked. Once again, he told me that this wine was more expensive at $150/bottle. I once again laughed and told him I had to stick to my budget of no more than $120/bottle. He said, ok you got it! Thus, we agreed on the wines for the dinner and the prices - all verbally - and proceeded with the private dinner event for the rest of the evening. I then received the final itemized bill via email 2 days later and discovered that they had charged me $150/bottle for both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. I reached out to the event manager - Elva - and let her know that I had chosen the wines with David and he agreed to only charge me $120/bottle, not $150/bottle as I otherwise would not have chosen these wines. I said there must have been an oversight, to please check with David and make the correction. She checked with David and he said I was confused. He claims he only agreed to lowering the price of a Cabernet, not the Pinot or Chardonnay. Note that we bought 27 bottles of the Pinot and 3 of the Chardonnay which resulted in an additional charge of over $900 before tax (since charged me $150/bottle rather than $120/bottle). The fact that David now said that I was somehow confused about the pricing is absurd. He obviously has no integrity or ethics. At this point, it was my word against his. It appears that the only way someone can do business with him is to agree to pricing in writing as he is not a man of his word. It is quite shocking to say the least that the owner would handle business this way with a client (particularly with a client who is spending so much money at your restaurant). I am writing this review as I want others to be warned about what kind of man they are doing business with. I can assure you that I will never host another event at this establishment and I will also tell anyone I know who hosts private dinners to stay away from Valbella.

Outstanding northern Italian food without the snootiness

By gojushiho |

We went to Valbella's on a blind faith reco from a friend to celebrate our anniversary. Given its location & reputation, we expected over-priced yet mediocre food while being waited on by bored-looking yet jaded servers. Well...surprise, surprise...that's not what we found at all. Instead, the wait staff were very attentive, helpful and pleasant while not hovering during the meal. The food really was outstanding as others here have said. They are true to the Northern Italian traditional yet do it with a bit of a NY twist. My dinner mate had ravioli with an egg in it with white truffle shavings --and was in fact worth every penny of the $120 it cost. I had the tagliatelle with a filet mignon ragout and it was among the best I ever had. The only drawback, if you will, is that the place was a bit nosiy --although that is to be expected. However, the noise was tolerable while drinking their lychee martinis. Sounds a bit crazy but they were great. Well worth a visit especially for a special occasion as Valbella's is not inexpensive.

Great dinner!

By Pagasman |

This is a New York City restaurant! Fabulous atmosphere, lots of energy, chic people, and great food. It is LOUD so it's not ideal for a romantic dinner. However, if you want a terrific meal with friends, then this is the place. Our food was delicious. Everything was extremely fresh and tasty. I had the Chilean sea bass and it was quite simply the best I've ever had, and I've had very good sea bass before. Still, their's was exceptional. By the way, the wine list is staggering...and expensive, but there are some fine choices. We had a delicious French Burgundy that paired exquisitely with our meal. If you don't mind very loud dining environments, then don't miss Valbella.

Deliciousness

Valbella was absolutely amazing. My boyfriend made reservations for our anniversary at 8:00pm on a Saturday night ( 12/19) Despite the time of year and the fact that it was a weekend it was not overbearingly crowded as most NYC places are around the holiday season are. We had a table by the spiral staircase on the second floor. I ordered Linguine Con Frutti Di Mare which was sauteed lobster, crabmeat and shrimp and fresh herbs in a plum tomato fra diavolo sauce. DELICIOUS. We also had a bottle of wine the waiter recommended. Wish I could tell you the name, but I don't remember it. The manager walked around and spoke to us several times and shared a few good stories. For those who are on a budget, please keep in mind dinner for 2 was somewhere in the $200.00 range. Overall the food was great, the ambiance was perfect and we had a wonderful time. I highly recommend eating here.

Great spot for business dinner

By Cisco D |

Visited Valbella for the first time for a small business dinner. We were in an upstairs private room. Service was superb. I enjoyed the food, though my fish was a bit overcooked the other elements made up for it.

Special Occasion

We booked the Italian Wine Room for a special event. The atmosphere service and food were all exceptional. Thank you for making a special day even better!

Excellent food

We had a great meal for our anniversary. My wife ordered a spectacular appetizer of scallops and artichoke, and I had one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had - Linguine fra diavolo fruti di mare. Just a great overall experience.

Wonderful Surprise

By WakePhil |

We were told to check out the meat packing district and another restaurant was recommended, but we ended up at Valbella. It was wonderful. Before really taking in the menu, our waiter talked us through so ideas and built an antipasto and pasta course and both were fantastic. The short rib ravioli was an interesting suggestion but one of the highlights of the meal. I'm not someone who traditionally seeks out Italian but I am reminded now why I should seek out good Italian.

Great Atmosphere and Great food

By Gary N |

We dined here as a party of 22 in one of the private rooms. From arrival to leaving we had a fantastic time the staff looked after and entertained to the highest standards, service was high level but not "stuffy" ! The dining experience for us was 1st class. Truly a night to remember food and service first class , thanks to all the team at Valbella.

Highly recommend!

By Sarahviz |

Beautiful ambiance, a spiral wooden staircase, gorgeous function rooms. Came here for a work dinner and was NOT disappointed! The passed appetizers were all amazing, especially the mini beef sliders. Pasta was mouthwatering and the filet and Chilean sea bass were out of this world! And then? Desserts! Perfection on a plate.

An incredible meal once again

By Marc T |

Last visit was in 2015 with a 7 course meal, this time we did 5 courses. From the caprese salad to the black angus filet mignon with a delicious peppercorn sauce this meal did not disappoint. Dave (owner) made sure we were enjoying very dish, two highlights were the white and black truffle pasta and the banana souffle with homemade chocolate ice cream. Do yourself a favor and head to the meatpacking district for a special meal.

Great mix of hip, old school service and great food

By Jomled |

Really don't understand the complaints about service in previous reviews. We went peak time saturday night, place was packed and service was terrific. Let's start with venue. warm and hip at same time. Crowd is mixed from young professionals to middle age out on date night. Well dressed crowd with both men and woman dressed to impress. Not a place with kids at bar looking to get drunk. Food is over the top good - we had the burata which was as good as being in Italy. Cold seafood special was fantastic. Wife had Chilean Sea bass I had veal. Both were outstanding. The food prices lean to high side but the quality reflected it. I do have an issue with wine list. It's 50 pages long but 95% are over $100 a bottle. I struggled to find something right at the $100 range. It was a fantastic Chardonnay but it bugged me that they really didn't have $75 options which would have been more palatable. This is why I gave it 3 stars on value. Will I go back - 100% yes but not as often as I would like because total price is just a little over the top. Go try it you will love it.

Too pricey and Nothing special!

By Njoshe |

Ambiance is trendy what you would expect from the meat packing district. Food: Pasta with truffle was pretty good. Other than that, too pricey! They charge $30 for Napoleon! Really?? Probably will not go back.

White table cloth, red gravy and steak... what else do you need?

By bowtieguy61 |

Got nervous standing outside waiting to go in... we were on holiday and very dressed down in jeans and oxfords, and watched several go in in jackets and ladies dripping in cocktail attire. We even considered cancelling because we were so underdressed. Convinced we'd be turned away or happy to settle for a crappy table with the worst waiter next to the kitchen door, boy was I ever wrong. We were warmly greeted by the natty host, and ushered to a lovely table in a great location with an even better waiter. We often feel snubbed by waiters because we don't choose to drink alcohol, but our guy didn't bat an eye. Menu is appropriately deep with enough that forces you to need to make choices. Dishes around our table looked as amazing as ours. Lovely salad choices, and at the suggestion of our waiter tried the Endive. Truly amazing, refreshing and perfectly balanced for a early summer evening. My husband is still dreaming about the pescatore risotto. I voiced my delimna about pasta choices to the waiter, and he spontaneous offered a solution of two half portions. Excellent!!! My heavens, the gravy on my perfectly thin pappardelle was just like Nonnas. The cavatelli with sausage and broccoli rabe barely escaped me licking the bowl I'm not sure I could have finished a full portion of either. Again, not the typical response you'd expect from a NYC waiter. The meat packing district location guaranteed us freedom from the theatre district tourists, but we did have quite a parade of people watching of the B and T crowd in for a nice evening out, and several men joining the second or third wives club! Advice? Focus on prime and secondi... dessert was fine, but truth be told I would have rather had another entree course and skipped the tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake. We will be back. Millie Grazie.

It's all about the Food....

By Kate O |

The minute you walk in the door you are greeted by cool people, beautiful decor perfect lighting and heavenly smells. The food and service are amazing. We had a table of 10 & every person LOVED their food. The waitstaff & service was probably the best I've seen in NYC in a long time.... Bravo Valbella!!! There are so many fabulous dining choices in the Uber-Fashionable Meatpacking district, however, a good amount are more focused on the "party" than the menu. Don't skip this one fellow foodies out there, and men - if you want to impress...great date spot as well.

Incredible Experience

By jblock330 |

Celebrated a birthday dinner here in the private wine cellar upstairs (a must) and had the most fantastic experience. Food is amazing, service was on point, ambiance was incredible. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The owner walks around, spent about 15 minutes with us and made the night special. At the end of the meal he invited us into the kitchen to prepare our own deserts - what a great experience. Definitely on the pricey side, but incredible wine list. A must try.

Fabulous

By fkher |

Another wonderful dinner at Valbella. Outstanding food, great wine and attentive service are the wonders of this restaurant. The Burratta salad and the scalopini martini were mouth watering. The gnoochi in veal sauce was delicious. To finish we had a lovely roasted almonds torte that was so light and delicate. All we could say is WOW!!!

The best service you'll ever have! Best Italian

By Pamela A |

I am not a huge fan of the pretentious meat packing but when my best friend suggested this place, I knew we had to try it. The service was one of the best in this city and we loved the atmosphere. Yes, it is pricey but the food is excellent and the service and ambiance make it worth it. I'd definitely return for a special occasion and would suggest it for date night. I recommend the burrata appetizers, calamari and I had a delicious pasta dish with lobster and shrimp which was amazing. The portions are large so you can definitely split apps and entrees like we did.

Not too loud so you can actually hear people across a table for 8

By Richard10024 |

I didn't find the food worth the price. I had a salmon which was grilled nicely. But the rest of my dishes just weren't that interesting. I had a tuna appetizer which was recommended which wasn't particularly flavorful. The side salad with the salmom wasn't that interesting. I tried the mashed potatoes which came with my wifes meal and it had little flabor or taste. None of the food was bad, it was ok but uninspiring. I did find the table and noise level of the restaurant acceptable. When going out with a group it is often a problem that you can't hear everyone at the table. I just don't know if that is a reason to go back to a restaurant. There are other restaurants which are not that noisy with more flavorful food. However, if you are looking for a business meal with solid basic food where the conversation is more important than the food this could be a good choice.

Expensive , but taste explosion worth it

By Michael A |

Sometimes words are over rated. This is more of an experience. I have been here before for parties , and this is simply not the same experience. This place is amazing. It starts with an amazing bartender who made perfect martini's. Then the food and waiter service..OMG. They had this white truffle gnocchi , that if I was given a last meal, this would be it. Short rib, fish, pasta...everything was on point and deserving of high praise. This place is expensive...I don't say that much , but it really is...but, if you can afford it...don't miss this place...it is one of those places.

Wonderful dinner

By Vonkhan |

We came here based on reviews on OpenTable and had such a wonderful dinner! The food was so delicious, with generous portions, so feel free to share, we had Prosecco and the waiting staff was so attentive. This place is a real gem, pity that we were so full and couldn't try the famous Millefeuille, but will definitely come back for that!

Amazing food and Fun Staff

By Maureen H |

We've come for our Christmas party several times and they do an incredible job both with apps (arrancini, tuna tartare, shrimp, etc) and the main dinner. Family style service (except the entree) and two pastas and two salads. Wonderful wine. The service team was close to one per person in our party. A great venue!

Mediocre pasta based dishes that are overcooked with skimpy bland sauce

By Dila S |

The pasta dishes here are overcooked and stuck together mixed with skimpy sauce that not only lacks flavor but also simple seasoning such as salt and pepper. As if the chef got a box of cheapest pasta in store with a marinara sauce and dumped them together without even adjusting the food for seasoning. SIMPLY MEDIOCRE! The service is atrocious as well. There are bunch of stern looking men just walk around and god forbid if you ask them any questions! They will promptly inform you that they are not your waiter. But you are the manager right? The least you can do it to call over the waiter? No? apparently no! I mean if you are so ashamed of your job, and being in service to the restaurant customers, WHY DON"T YOU CHANGE YOUR JOB? Oh and if you criticize their food in any way, they will tell you that since you are not an Italian, you have no right to judge an italian food because you don't know any better!

Good Food, Service Could Have Been Better:(

By ficklefoxco |

When we arrived we sat for twenty minutes before I finally requested menu's and a wine list. Our dinners were very good, wine list is amazing, didn't appreciate the attitude when I complained about the service.

Best dinner yet in NYC

By Charlesham |

Best dinner of five nights in NYC. I had a large bone in filet. Cooked perfectly. My wife had a pasta dish with lobster. She really liked it too. So glad the other restaurant the concierge tried to send us to was "full". It's actually across the street and had plenty of tables open as we walked past it. Very nice inside. Great service from all. Very friendly. We arrived at 7pm on a Friday and the place was empty. This worried us but the service and food were wonderful. By the time we were headed out the place was filling up. Definitely would come back.

Dinner Party Extraordinaire

By Jeffrey J |

Can here for a dinner party with 40 co-workers and spouses. what a place we had the whole upstairs to ourselves. The service was tremendous our glasses were never empty and the passed h'orderves of meat and cheeses seemed to be endless. When the meal was served the 2 pastas and the 2 different salads were unique and exceptional. The main course the Filet, Branzino, Veal Chop, or Chicken were all excellent the portions were very good and the filet was cooked to perfection. When it was dessert time they moved us into the back room and they let us "HELP" make the desserts. The whole experience was awesome.

Best Napolean in town

By SJL0612 |

Valbella is one of the finest Italian Restaurants in NYC. Although very expensive always worth the price. And just remember to save room for dessert. Nothing is bad but the Napolean is the best.

Excellent food and service

By Bill D |

They were able to accommodate a private party of 20 upstairs in a private room. Excellent wine list and our table was surrounded by the wine choices on racks around the room. We had samplings of 2 pastas, 2 salads and a choice of entrees and desserts. The salmon, sea bass, Bronzino were all excellent and the veal medalians were some of the best I ever had. Outstanding and attentive service from 4-6 servers kept everyone's glass filled and met the needs of all guests.

Excellent high-end Italian restaurant in the meatpacking district

By Rubyrex |

Excellent restaurant. The Burrata Mozzarella appetizer was superb, as was the Branzino and the braised beef was also outstanding.

AMAZING DINIG EXPERIENCE

By Thomas K |

A lot of choices in NYC but this was AMAZING!! We experienced one of the best waiters ever (Sonny). His knowledge and presentation of the menu was so well executed that there was never a doubt what we were all going to have. The way he described each item with such passion and excitement as if he had prepared them himself delivered one of the most memorable dinner experiences ever. The food was so delicious. Our only regret was not having enough time or room in our stomachs to taste more. Well done! This will always be our first choice for dining when we get back to NYC.

Fantastic restaurant

By martinehatlem |

Amazing food and really beautiful restaurant in the middle of Meatpacking district. Me and 2 friends were there on a Saturday, we made a reservation in advance. The food was just exquisite, and WHAT a service! They also had an amazing wine list, which was more like a book! I would definitely come back here!

Great Experience!

Had the opportunity to have dinner at Valbella and have to say it was a fabulous experience! Eddie took excellent care of our entire group and the dessert lesson was incredible!

Classic Italian with family vibe in meatpacking district

By DubaiBelle |

Really enjoyed this italian restaurant and loved that it stuck to classic styles but is in the midst of contemporary alternatives. Dishes were delicious and wait staff were great in recommending dishes that we could share as much as enjoy independently so that we did not have to get take out after. Highly recommend

Outstanding Birthday Dinner!

By Jeff D |

We were in NYC for 2 nights and should have eaten here both nights! Great bartender and atmosphere......she provided great advice on dinner along with excellent drinks. Dining room was energetic and waiter was very attentive. I had a chicken and pepper dish and wife had veal dish....both very nice. See you on the next trip!

Enjoyed every moment and very bite!

By Jenni_mjt |

I was only in town for a brief business trip, but a local recommended Valbella to me as a great experience. Although I was traveling alone, I'm never one to miss a wonderful dining opportunity and I can confidently say that this was a tremendous treat! Every staff member was welcoming and hospitable, not to mention very helpful. I left my choices for the evening in the hands of my waiter and he did not disappoint - every single one of his recommendations was mouth-watering. I also don't feel like he took advantage of my pocket-book and made some reasonable choices based solely on the tastes I would enjoy. The atmosphere was lovely, the food memorable, and my experience was one to remember. Thank you for taking such great care of me Valbella!

Relaxing lunch after visit to Whitney Museum of American Art

Our large group of library patrons from Port Jefferson, N.Y. were served a three course lunch at this lovely restaurant in the Meatpacking District. Despite the size of the group, the service was excellent and the food very good.

Best Meal

By Allison G |

We came to Valbella in the Meatpacking District the last time we were in town. My husband had only been to the Greenwich location. I had never been and we went with a couple that are regulars. I am not exaggerating when I say this was the best meal I've had in... I can't remember. After hearing the specials-we were overwhelmed everything sounded great. We ended up telling him what we were in the mood for and they brought out the dishes. We split several appetizers, enjoyed three bottles of top notch Cabernet's.. From the Wine Selection, to the Service, and the Food--this place is the best dining experience I can recall. Take the waiter's opinion if you are unsure of a dish. You will not be disappointed. I had the Crab Appetizer (probably could've had it as a meal) this dish alone met and went above all of my expectations. This is a new favorite restaurant of mine.
