Sometimes you walk into a coffee place to be met by a coffee guru, who is a bit over the top. In this case, the ‘guru’ was hopeless, opinionated, didn’t know their product lines, and the coffee was burnt. Give this a wide birth, unless you like average coffee accompanied by misinformation. Won’t be back.

Their signature Pastrinos are excellent! They have several kind. Absolutely worth a try! Highly recommended for a brunch 👍

Loved the feel of the restaurant and the food was delicious! The service was very good and very fast. Would 10/10 recommend going again for a quick lunch!

For the price you are paying, the portions are rather small. It tastes pretty good, not excellent, but good. The restaurant is very clean and it is a central location. But again, you are able to get a better tasting breakfast for the same price and within a walking distance, anywhere nearby (Hell’s Kitchen is nearby).

I stopped in for a latte and food with my family during our trip & it was delicious! Everything came out very quickly and it all tasted amazing! The seating arrangements were nice as well. Overall, 10/10 highly rrecommend if you are visiting!!

Excellent secret gem! By a recommendation of our hotel we had breakfast here and was a nice surprise: coffee and sandwiches excellent! Recommended!

Husband was looking for a place for a sweet treat, and I needed caffeine. He searched for paces near our hotel and found this spot. My vanilla latte was perfect, and he tried two cookies - both were delicious. Staff was super friendly. We will be back!

We stayed at Row Hotel which is within easy walking distance from the cafe. This cafe had the best mocha we experienced in the city. The sandwiches were equally delicious! Service was fast and the employees were nice. Ample seating.

The service is friendly and fast. There is seating and tables and wifi. It is one of the few places where the sales assistant had a smile. Well done guys

We went in today to warm up from the snow and were treated to amazing coffee (my husband) and a golden milk (me) plus friendly conversation with the baristas. Such a warm environment here--plenty of places to sit (which is rare considering the neighborhood!) and my husband proclaimed it the best coffee he had in NYC. Highly recommended.

During a trip to New York, my family and I had breakfast here several times. During the week, we had the opportunity to try great coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Their great pastrina was an experience. I had apple pie, bananatella and breakfast pastrino. I had banana chocolate chipmuffin, blueberry muffin, banana walnut bread with an excellent espresso. They are delicious. Of the croissants I tried, my favorite was the almond croissant. The butter croissant was also excellent. The service was helpful and fast. They always found a free table at Vanilla Gorilla Cafe, even though they always had a lot of customers there during the morning.

Perfect coffee, tasty sandwiches and friendly staff what more could you want. If I’m ever back in New York this will be my first stop

The breakfast pastrino was our best meal while on vacation in New York city. We went there 2 mornings in a row. Substituted mayo instead of Sriracha on ours. They are even great warmed up. Saved half of ours and brought back to Texas. 2 days later warmed in the oven and just like new. I pray they will come to TX in the future. The staff were all so nice as was the owner. Thank you for adding so much satisfaction to our trip.

Contrary to other reviews elsewhere, we found the coffee to be lukewarm, stale, best to look elsewhere. Off- night?... You be the judge.

What a hidden gem we luckily found right next door to our hotel on day one of our trip! We visited here multiple times because the coffee..food and service was THAT good! The almond croissant was divine and loaded with delicious almond filling! The Best latte I had while visiting NYC and it was the hazelnut honey latte...delicious and not too sweet just like I like it!!! The service was impeccable...fast and friendly!! The next day we tried the pastrino sandwich and it was so different and delicious. Sure wish we had a vanilla gorilla cafe in Michigan!! Give this hidden gem a try!!

Great spot, really nice coffee (and tea) and a great brownie. Staff are really charming and the decor/marketing is great.

Vanilla Gorilla Cafe Is a great place for delicious coffee and breakfast items with a twist. The best part is the man who takes the orders. I was there three times and he remembered the little decaf lady. I recommend the salmon sandwich and the bacon and egg sandwich.

I absolutely love this place! The staff is super friendly, the shop has a great vibe and is very clean. The coffee quality is at a very high level and the Pastrinos are incredible!!

I’ve been looking for decent breakfast in Hells Kitchen and I found it 👏 love the wraps and the coffee is not too bad

Me and my girlfriend come to New York from Wales UK and found Times Square is where tourist seem to congregate for food, which we didn’t find was anything special we had breakfast at appletree which was boring and plain, we come across this cafe on our adventure to find better breakfast the next day, and Vanilla Gorilla cafe nailed it very tasty ultimate breakfast sandwich & coffee would 100% recommend

Really great coffee and cakes/cookies ideal for breakfast and would recommend. We went for 3 mornings as local to where we were staying, unfortunately have never experienced such unfriendly service no hello or thank you or smile, we went back for the coffee, such a shame as great potential and a smile is free

Yummy food served hot and fresh ! Very friendly staff, makes you feel at home immediately. Good place for family, good place also for friends. Something in the menu for everybody.

Great food, location, on Eighth Avenue, a few blocks north of Penn Station. Stopped to get sandwiches and coffee. Portions were a bit small but service was prompt & polite.
