Had a delicious dinner with wonderful service on a recent Saturday night. I have no frame of reference for Brazilian food so I cannot speak to its authenticity, but it was tasty. This is not a full Brazilian steakhouse like the popular chains, but I did see several skewers of meat being served if you want that kind of dish. We started off with Caipirinha, a traditional Brazilian drink which is similar to a mojito but more tart. I had a "bobo" shrimp dish that featured several large shrimp in a tasty sauce served with rice. The passion fruit mousse dessert that we shared was wonderful and unusual. Our waiter was very nice and made great suggestions, and was forgiving of my sad attempts to pronounce the menu items. I thought the total bill, coming in at around $100 before tip, was fairly reasonable given that we were in NYC. The jazz trio with female vocalist also gave a nice vibe to the restaurant.

Great service, huge portions and delicious food. What else could you want? We will definitely return here!

Outstanding food, drink, and hospitality. Can't wait to return to sample more fare. Very knowledgeable, friendly staff!

Had a great dinner here. Meat was lovely and served on a metal skewer with some amazing stewed beans and rice on the side. Would recommend as a reasonably priced dinner

We ate here before the theater. Having had a very nice experience here several years ago, we were expecting the same but were disappointed. Two of us had steaks which they said were very good. I had a seafood paella which was disappointing - the seafood wasn't that fresh and the rice was under-cooked. There were at least three times when we gave specific instructions to the waiter which were not followed - ice in the martini, no onions in the salad, split the check three ways, etc. Overall an indifferent experience.

Service was amazing. Very professional and attentive. Menu was quite varied and meats are delicious. Atmosphere quiet and comfortable. A welcome special retreat from the hubbub of the theater district. The peppers are really friggin hot. As my friend said, “I feel like I just had a dental procedure, I can’t feel my face.”

The exterior is not impressive but the service and food are definitely worth the visit. The restaurant was across the street from our hotel so we decided to stop in for a glass of wine. We are so glad we did. The aromas were immediately inviting. Many of the customers were locals & that's a hint to the quality. We were not disappointed. Everything we had was great. We returned a number of times during our trip. Add to that friendly service and you've got a winner!

Found this restaurant thanks to TripAdvisor, and loved it. The server had excellent recommendations, and everything was outstanding. The salad had bright, citrus flavors and hearts of palm. The Mariscada was packed with clams, mussels, shrimp, squid, and more, in a mild but delicious broth. The flan was among the best I've ever had: silky, rich, and not at all watery. I will definitely return on a future visit to the city.

This spot has a lovely atmosphere and excellent food! The service was attentive but not invasive. The black bean soup and cheese bread was wonderful. This was a great new place to find for dinner before the theater! We will be back!

food - ok ... National dish is a bit pricey though taste is ordinary. location - ok service - good although , we were not attended to until the captain arrived . waiters just kept on looking at us by the door.

I was staying at the hotel next door, and decided to eat here for convenience as it was late, I just need something. I opted for the Steak in Mushroom Sauce - it was divine. It melted in my mouth, cooked to perfection. The service was fantastic, and even though I was dining alone, I was very well looked after. It was so good, that I choose to go here the next night too.

Brazilian place on 46 large and clean... staying at the hotel above the place we went 3 times because the value for money, to be in New York, was excellent... we ate both meat and fish and everything was delicious, well cooked and generous courses... sympathy and helpfulness of all the staff

This was the nearest to our hotel, we found it inviting after a tiring journey. The staff are really friendly and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced.

The food here was fantastic! This one is a big favorite of the people I traveled with who visit NY regularly. It was great because they even held a table for us (we called them) when we were running late from our Broadway show and having trouble getting our lyft in the rain. Feijoada is what brings my friend back time and time again but they had also recommended to me the acorn squash that had a cream sauce and shrimp in it. That dish was particularly incredible. I certainly understand why they come back. I won’t recommend the chocolate mousse though as really it’s more just like chocolate pudding. It tasted good but nothing particularly special about it.

Saw this restaurant just walking by. Stopped in for dinner and it was delicious. If you are looking for some authentic Brazilian food this is the place to go.

It was our first visit but it wil not be our last! The service was excellent. The food was very, very good Wait staff was very helpful in explaining anything you might have a question about.

Very service minded staff that took great care of us during our stay. Good menu with lots to choose from. Whole family choosed different dishes and they where spot on. Great deserts too. Definitely recommend a visit when in NYC.

An excellent Brazilian restaurant with an excellent Midtown location. The service is good and the food excellent with very good caipirinhas.

Delicious...friendly, will definitely come back on our next visit to NY Chilli sauce with the steak and fries is fantastic, followed by a fabulous chocolate mousse 👏🏻👍

I was initially put off by the exterior - it looked like a dive bar when I was hoping for authentic food. However, once inside, although not fancy, the place was clean and friendly. I had the Brazilian national dish, a kind of spicy stew made of all kinds of parts of the pig and cow, black beans and rice. It was delicious! And portions were large. I left happy, and remember it fondly.

We enjoyed a wonderful mid-week dinner. We had the Mariscada and the beef Churrascos. This was the best steak I've ever had. We will be back!!

Excellent food, well served portion and fair price with very good service in English, Spanish and Portuguese. I tried the gaucho barbecue that was roasted excellently.

We came in on a Sunday evening and were not looking for a long heavy meal so only ordered a main course. Everyone had something different and we all agreed that the food was really good. The waiters were pleasant and friendly and the ambience in the restaurant gave it a nice comfortable feeling. Will definitely come back.

The food, service, and employees are amazing. The owner remembered me by name from over a year ago. They have hundreds of different kinds of cachaca and they make dozens of types of caipirinhas; in addition to any other drink you’d like. The entire staff is impressingly multilingual, very knowledgeable about the area and very enthusiastic when it comes to helping you with anything.

The place clearly has been here for an age. Service is courtesans friendly. Good and tasty food. Great intro for Brazilian novices. Cheery bar staff and waiters serving good drinks . Not badly priced for area.

We went for a lunch in this amazing restaurant in NYC and it is a must go restaurant if you love Brasilian food. Cousine is so authentic and tastefull it takes you to Copa. Capirinha is just amazing. All the sea food is fresh and superb and the meat...the meat is fantastic. Service is wonderfull, place is amazing, it really has that brasilian vibe. I couldn't say anything less than congrats to this amazing place in the heart of NY. Will be back for sure. Obrigada.

Wanted to try something new for us so we headed to Little Brazil Street. Fortunate to find a new favorite restaurant in New York! Looking forward to checking out more of the fascinating menu options... the sortidos, vatapa and bobo de camarao were all superb. Have to go back soon and try more!! Great place with plenty of delicious options we've tried and more we want to.

Found this little gem by mistake . `We orderd Calamari for a starter best i ever tasted . the main court didn't disappoint either . Not over priced like a lot in New York . Great value for money and exceptional food. Deff go there again on our next visit to the big Apple

A place to have a good Brazilian food for the money. Big and tasty Chicken salad + Caipirinha costed 25 USD. Also many other Brazilian options, normally based on meat. Also Brazilian waiters

Ordered several traditional Brazilian dishes and was quite dissapointed. Beans and olives were straight from a can and the meat was very average. My wife who is Brazilian was veth disappointed. They even managed to screw up the caipirinha. The staff was very kind and helpful which was the only real positive.

My husband and I ate here for dinner on a Sunday night. We were seated immediately to a half booth half chair table. It was very comfortable, the game was playing on a big screen, and the waiter approached us immediately. The restaurant is very clean and has table cloths on all tables. The wait staff all assist each other which helps you receive supreme service. Now, the food.. SO GOOD! We ordered caipirinhas and beer for drinks, and the chicken stroganoff and garlic picanha for the main course which came with farofa, rice, beans, and a vinegrette. All was excellent. I personally prefer my picanha as a little thicker cut as these were very thin, but the taste was still delicious. The farofa was perfect, and there was so much food we weren't able to finish, which was a shame because I wanted to inhale the stroganoff! Highly recommend, would definitely return!

Just popped into this resturant to see what it was like and immediately liked the decor and ambiance with its old school charm and live piano jazz playing in the background. The food was delicious with generous portions and authentic side dishes. Will definitely visit again

Very nice restaurant. I ordered the bean soup which was wonderful. And I ate stroganoff, delicious. I highly recommend it. Top service.

This place is x and the truly zero meat is of excellent quality was very hard that if the taste good but dry the service some very good waiters and others regular. They don't have good glasses for wine definitely wouldn't come back!!!!!

The food was great and our waiter was wonderful too. Makes me wish I had a Brazilian restaurant like this in my hometown!

I am very picky with my five stars. I have given very few. Since there are no half points I have to go with a five because it was well past the four. Apps assortment was great six different items to share. Cesar salad was one of the best in a long time. The picahana (sp). Was delicious and cooked to perfection. Choc mouse one of the best I have had. Service was outstanding

I consider myself to be a fairly generous type in all that I do, but I have never felt quite so embarrassed and humiliated as when I finished my meal at this eatery. It was our 1st stop on arrival in NYC and the welcome was warm, staff immaculate and the young waiter who seated us happy and smiling. Drinks ordered and eventually delivered, food order taken, eventually and after a wait delivered to the table. I believe they call it being served. The food was authentic and my partner and son enjoyed theirs, mine was delivered on a long skewer and dumped in the rice on my plate, it looked great but their was no sense from our server of occasion, indeed he didn't even speak. My main consisted of a small piece of steak which was thick, juicy and cooked to perfection! Also on the skewer was a piece of chicken, a Brazilian sausage and a thin pork chop. All 3 were over cooked and dry, however our server didn't get to know as he didn't return to ask how the food was, instead focussing on other, clearly regular diners. We finished our meal and had the bill of over $120. As the service was only ok and my food likewise I decided to leave a (I thought generous) 10% tip. The waiter then went on at length to correct me telling me that "you don't understand, because you not from here, tip is 20%" How embarrassing, I have travelled the world including all over the US and have NEVER been accused of under tipping. Had we had excellent service and all that goes with it the outcome would have been very different. As it was we left the restaurant our 1st impression of the city tarnished. I had hoped this was a one off and the guy was having a bad day, however I have since seen other similar reviews. A real shame as the restaurant has real potential as the rest of the parties food showed.

My family had a wonderful time at Via Brazil. Service was outstanding! We ordered the picanha with garlic and a delicious bobó de camarão. The food was very well prepared, and the meat was delicious. Overall, it was a great experience.

Very well received in Portuguese 😊. Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and generous portions. We loved the environment. It deserves a visit. Looking forward to returning.

Really enjoyed this place service was good and the food was excellent they have a really good wine list too

Always when in NYC I go to this restaurant for Oswald Aranha filet and caipirinhas, this time we went twice and we had a great time and fantastic service.

Location a little outdated, great food and definitely value for money (except the cocktail a little pricey). More smiles could corroborate the Brazilian atmosphere provided by the Portuguese speaking waiters. No live music this time, I have to come back!

We ate here because it is down the street from our hotel. I enjoyed the fried shrimp with melted cheese & the rice was very good. My wife enjoyed her salmon in a pineapple sauce. It was leisurely dining. The desserts were scrumptious: truffles & coconut flan.

Whenever we get a yen for great feijoada and capirinhas, we come here. This place has been on Manhattan's "Brazilian' street for a long time -- but still delivers great food and a comfy atmosphere. Highly recommended -- but remember: don't eat feijoada too late! It's very heavy on the stomach (as intended!).

I was in town on business during the Olympics in 2016, so it seemed appropriate to try a Brazilian restaurant, but I didn't want Churrascurria. This fit the bill perfectly. Food was tasty, portions were large, service was excellent.

One of NYC's best Brazilian restaurants, Via Brazil is conveniently located. I have enjoyed a number of meals with colleagues and friends: those who prize authentic Brazilian food were particularly impressed. Very nice service and atmosphere.

We are Brazilians who live here for a long time. My parents from Brazil were visiting and we ordered a combination of meat, strogonoff, and parmigiana. Everything was delicious. No exception. Will certainly come back next time I’m in town! The staff are great!

Just came upon this restaurant when walking from Radio City to Grand Central, and was drawn in by the posted menu and appealing appearance inside. White covered tables, nicely positioned to have enough space. Extra during dinner was the piano and bass players, not overly loud but pleasant in the background. Excellent attentive service, with reasonable specials and an extensive menu to meet most consumer needs. Probably not great for vegetarians, but plenty of meat, chicken and fish choices. Try the coconut flan with prune sauce at the end - and expect to take half home! Very rich but wonderful! Food was plentiful, both my daughter and I took home about half our meal.

Nice and quality service, the food is just spectacular. We really enjoy the first time and invited a couple of friends for a second visit, was a really nice Friday night dinner. The black beans soup is incredible, the picaña just incredible and the chocolate truffles were maravillosas. Certainly a remembered dinner an a restaurant to return.

Everything was very good here, if a little on the bland side. The caparhainas are strong and the beef is fresh.

Super delish! fun & cozy atmosphere. friendly staff who sat us quickly though we didn't have reservations. Food was yummy, nice portions for the prices, and variety of selections. We hadn't experienced Brazilian food prior and definitely hit the jackpot! Just wish we had been there for the live music!

There's no reason to get anything else but the steak here... that's what people come for! I make the mistake of getting the chicken.. it was ok, but my husband's steak was delicious. Get the assorted appetizer and the Via Brasil salad. The flan is the best I've ever had!

Found this gem last minute on trip advisor and was so happy with the entire meal. Really great food, service was spot on and a great live piano performance capped it all off. Also were able to cater to my gluten free/celiac issues with absolutely no problems.

A go to must in midtown. Kind service and authentic cuisine. Caipirinhas to die for. Tutu a Mineira like grandmas! Gotta go every time in Manhattan.

Had the hearts of palm and chesse. What a delight! Malbec good but Argentine Cabernet better. Just the right amount of background music. ( Not my style but not offensive)

The Via Brasil is a good, midtown option. It is conveniently located on W46th Street between 5th Ave. and 6th Ave. (Avenue of the Americas). That is just a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, Time Square, Radio City Music Hall, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and other top attractions. That particular block is "sub-labeled" "Little Brazil," and there are other Brazilian eateries located there. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and efficient. It is not a churrascaria -- a Brazilian steakhouse -- where servers wander about dispensing portions of meat and other food, sort of like a dim sum style Chinese restaurant. Instead, Via Brazil has a wide variety of excellent Brazilian dishes. We split two appetizers and two main courses. One starter was Linguica Frita com Manioca (fried Brazilian sausage with yucca/manioc fries) ($11). It was tasty enough, but pretty bland and not very interesting. Much, much better was the Sopa Feijo, a black bean and saugage soup ($7). One of our main dishes was Bief a Milanesa, a breaded steak served with mashed potatoes with a black bean-based sauce ($21). The other, and the clear winner of all we ate, was Feijoada Completa, which the restaurant called the "National Dish Of Brazil" It is a black bean stew with both fresh and dried beef, salted and fresh pork, bacon, sausage and ribs ($31). A very generous portion came in a black cast iron pot with sides of rice and c lightly fried, almost crispy collard greens. The dish also came with an array of alternate toppings include farofa (toasted cassava/manioc flour, diced oranges, and diced and very hot peooers. It was delicious. If you go to Via Brazil and order this national stew, skip the appetizers. The serving was huge. A double serving for two is $48, a very good buy for what you get. A glass of decent cab. was $9, bring the bill including tax but before tip of $85. That made the restaurant a very good value, especially for midtown Manhattan. Were we to go again I think we would skip the sausage appetizer and instead of the breaded steak have one of the bacalhau offerings. Bacalhau is rehydrated salted cod, which, if you have not tried it, you should sample.

We stumbled upon this wee gem late at night and very hungry! Its a brilliant wee place - not much to look at on the outside but it's the food that matters and it's great! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent tasty food in the centre of New York - without a hefty price tag!

This restaurant was suggested by our hotel receptionist. She had said everyone that tries it comes back happy. Never having had Brazilian food, and dining with a hungry 13 year old boy, we were nervous, but decided to try something new. Boy were we happy we did. We started with the assorted Brazilian hors doeuvres, which had 4 or 5 traditional Brazilian appetizers, sorry I can't remember most of them, but I would say we enjoyed 3 out of the 5, and would order it again. They had several lunch specials that day, and I decided to try the Brazilian steak in a wine sauce, not really knowing what I was going to get, I was surprised when my meal was basically pot roast. A very good pot roast, one I will never be able to duplicate. My son ordered the Bife A Baiana, which was similar to steak tenderloin, with peppers, onions, & tomatoes in a red sauce. The waiter warned that the sauce was spicy, and for a family who doesn't do spicy, we found it had a kick, but not so much we didn't enjoy it. This meal was the favorite of all of us. The steak was tender, an sweet, but the sauce added a kick just at the end that made every bite delicious. My son was full, but didn't want to stop eating. That has never happened before. My husband ordered the Picadinho de Carne, which was diced beef in a red wine sauce with a poached egg, and fried banana's. We have had some similar dishes in Spain, but nothing quite like this. It was very flavorful when put all together. We also had the house specialty drink a Caipirinha, one was lime the other mango. They were delicious. We did not have dessert. So 2 alcoholic drinks, a milk, 1 appetizer, and 3 entrees was $135.00 with tip. The service was great, they took the time to explain what everything was, and were patient with us not being familiar with the menu, or food. The dining area is small, and a bit cramped when busy, but it's New York, you kind of expect this. The restaurant was still busy for lunch at 3pm with couples, families, and friends. You could tell that some of the patrons were regulars, and knew the staff. It was very welcoming, It will be my new go to when in NYC.

After business meetings in New York City, it is always a treat to visit Via Brasil (on 46th Street between 5th & 6th Avenues). My husband loves the Moquecas Peixe, a traditional Brazilian Stew mixed with white fish - it is truly amazing. This time I had the special of the day - grilled white fish with a passion fruit sauce - simply yummy. Most of the main dishes are served with freshly cooked veggies, rice, black beans and pirao - a yucca flour puree. Portions are large - the service is excellent - reasonable prices and again, we look forward to the next time we are in the City and can enjoy another amazing meal a Via Brasil!!

We went to this restaurant in "Little Brazil" New York City after a matinee show of "Hamilton." As it's hard to fine decent Brazilian food anywhere in the U.S. we decided to give this place a try. It certainly did not disappoint. Very friendly, professional service with awesome food. We had the feijoada, Brazil's national dish, while our guests had the filet mignon and the chicken strogonoff. All the dishes were superb. The feijoada came with farofa, orange slices, different cuts of pork, collard greens and of course the black beans. I couldn't have asked for a better feijoada in the U.S. The caipirinhas were really strong which meant the restaurant was generous with the cachaca (sugar cane liquor). The prices were very reasonable for New York City (obviously not cheap compared to other cities in the U.S.) There was live music as we went on a weekend. A great place overall.

Popped in after reading the menu in the street. Very friendly greeting and beautiful food and fabulous service. Would recommend...steak and bananas 😁

Via Brasil is that traditionally New York restaurant--narrow and intimate. Although we opted for salads unique to a Brazilian epicurean establishment, the menu prices were not out of kilter with the neighborhood and quality of the place. Service was swift, unobtrusive and professional.

Wonderful food, from several states of Brazil, we were served by the Wellington boy, very polite, attentive, was a pleasure. A beautiful place, perfect food. Super indico. We ate a wonderful bean tutu.

We enjoyed a great evening dinner Sunday night. Our server, Luan, was very helpful, attentive and friendly. I had picanha and my wife had shrimp stroganoff. Both were very good. Ordered a bottle of pinot noir which went well with the entrees. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I would never return. I ordered a traditional Brazilian meal of black bean soup followed by braised beef and mashed potatoes, plus a club soda at first and a cup of coffee afterwards. This simple meal set me back $40. Let me describe it. The black bean soup was mostly liquid, although tasty, but hardly a good value. The beef had the texture as if it was canned (not fresh) meat, with a heavy, tasteless brown sauce. The mashed potatoes tasted as if they had been reconstituted from dried flakes from a box and had a watery, tasteless quality. While the service was good and the location is in the heart of mid-town Manhattan, I would NEVER return to this place. Its food offering was totally sub-standard. I would never recommend it.

Went to this place for Dinner after I heard good reviews from my colleagues. Now I am passing it on. This is nice, quiet restaurant with great brazilian food. I loved it.

Food a little under the average, service too. Be aware of the bill they automatically charge you a (20% obliged) tip. Last but not least they brought us a 6$ 500ml water filled up with the same water of the carafe. Just BE AWARE

On the rare occasion that my entire family was able to get together we decided to meet at Via Brasil. It was a fantastic restaurant. We all loved our meals.

This place has a lot more than just your typical churrascos from southern Brasil. They have so much more! So far I have tried the Vatapa and the Bacalhau Cozido. Both were fantastic! The flavors and spices were perfectly balanced and the portions were plentiful! They good wine selections in their list to compliment a great meal. The service was excellent. Jesus was my server and he was attentive but not intrusive. He was informative when I asked about the different dishes and everything in my meal was delivered with perfect timing, from the bread to the offer of coffee. I am in NYC about once a month on business so I dine out a lot. There are so many restaurants in NYC that I have rarely made a return trip to one, but I will definitely return to this place. This one is worth sharing with friends.

On our first night in New York we came across this wonderful restaurant in Little Brasil. We were impressed with the variety on the menu and the prices were very reasonable. Our food was absolutely delicious and served by a very friendly and helpful waiter. We would love to return during our stay, live music at the weekend so hopefully we will. Highly Recommended

Not far from times square, it was a hidden gem. Lovely food and wonderful decor. My wife had a marvelous steak and I had the paella. We both loved our dishes and the waiter was very helpful as well. Prices were pretty fair for the area.

Our hotel was next door so we called for dinner. My wife's meal was disappointing but I had a great burger reasonably priced and the service was very friendly and attentive. Next night we decided to try again, and came with two friends from our tour group who were impressed. and once more I was very happy with my choice. My wife chose crab cakes which came with a far more exciting salad than the one she had the previous night. Again the service was good, the wines are reasonably priced, and we were glad we gave it a second chance.

Looking for a nice meal before Hamilton, near our hotel, we just started walking. Found Via Brasil, liked the looks of it and menu choices (many and varied). We were early so not many people there, but thought we’d give it a chance. Oh, so glad we did! Top quality service. Place is small, intimate, lovely, so clean. We both had the osso bucco with yellow rice and shared a side of broccoli (veg of day was mixed vegetables but rge server offered to just give us the broccoli from the mix). My absolute only complaint was that the portion was so large and we couldn’t save it since we were traveling! It wax fabulous! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in Manhattan!

From the moment we walked the service and atmosphere of this place brought a smile to two sickly English people in New York, from the warm welcome to the live music it all added to our trying to be romantic evening :-) Food was lovely and plentiful, wine was reasonably priced with a good selection (in my opinion).

What A great find, very near to our hotel in a quietish street just off 6th Ave. Decor and ambience just right, cosy table settings, music pitched right, service was amazing, and as for the food...best in NY so far. Braised beef and perfect mash, Barrimundi with caper sauce that was delicious( with slightly underdone broccoli) Calamari fries and Caesar salad, 2 beers, a cava, lemonade with real lemons and to finish a superb creme caramel...for $91.... we ve paid a lot more for a lot less. Great place.

Excellent food and service. Luis was very helpful in welcoming us and explaining the restaurant story. Humberto provide a perfect service. The feijoada was perfect the appetizers delicious.

We sat at the bar and had cocktails and appetizers. The best was the beef, chicken and sausage skewers in a thick grilled pineapple slice. The bartender was friendly, too. We will be back and try dinner the next time.

Hard to chose from near 11,000 places to eat in New York. Don't go past Via Brasil, service is first class with excellent knowledge of the menu to find you what you will like, add in fantastic fresh ingredients you'll have a great meal here.

I make it a point to come here every time I visit NYC. Love the food, ambience, service and most of all, the wonderful musicians who grace this little gem on weekends. Must have the capirinhas!!!

Got back to my Latino roots My family and I were there last Saturday. Great place to get in touch with Brazil away from Brazil. The staff is polite, quick and not annoying. The meals got us in touch with our Latino roots (both my wife and I are from Paraguayan descent, but we’ve never been to South America). The food was amazing. She got a Frango Bossa Nova (because of the name, she loves the music genre, haha) and loved it. The meat was lean and fine and the beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had a restaurant special – churrascos. Again, the roasted meat was lean and juicy and I loved the farofa. The atmosphere was very interesting. There was a live band playing and that gave the whole evening an even more traditional notion. My wife even danced at her chair after having a caipirinha. Which reminds me that they also have a rich menu in cocktails that are very rich in flavor and very strong, so don’t drink too much of them, hahaha. We had a great time and we plan to make a reservation for somewhere in mid August to take some friends for some caipirinhas and bite. Cheers!

We came upon this restaurant by chance and we were happy we did . The food was excellent and the service the same. We found out this restaurant was 39 years old and was family owned and it happened to be the oldest Brazilian in NYC. We wish we had found it on our first night here and not our last! We will return.

First time at Via Brazil, and enjoyed Maqueco bowls that were an excellent choice. Pricey for the small portions, they could afford to be a bit more generous on the size of meals. The best choice in NYC for this fare.

On a busy Friday night....prompt and quality service....fabulous food. Thank you! Great pre-theater dinner.

A short walk from Times Square. Wonderful food and different. Every single person in a party of 7 loved their meal. Delicious and different with an emphasis on their Brazilian cuisine. Clean environment and an efficient and friendly waiter. What a great find. I have added it to my list of favorite places to eat in NYC

We had an amazing dinner. The black bean soup was so good that we we cleaning the bowl with bread so we wouldn’t miss any. My wife and I both had filets that were rich, flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. Our friends had fish and beef stroganoff both of which were equally good. The flan was very good and the chocolate truffles were exquisite. I had an excellent young cab with dinner that was deep and rich. One of the best meals we’ve had in New York.

Not what I expected. Appetizer took a while to arrive and entree had the wrong sauce. Dessert wasn’t sweet, more like sour.

Amazing food, great drinks, reasonably priced. A lovely little setting with friendly staff and some of the best Brazilian food I've had outside of South America!

I first came to Via Brasil sometime in the 70s. And then I came on visits to New York. Now, since 1993, I have been a proud customer. It is so classy, and impeccably run. Assistant manager Dante is one of New York City's finest. The food is quite good, but the real attraction is the classy servers! I need to go back soon!

I love Via Brazil. Always great service (As for Carlo) though there has been a price creep. I wish they had music on a more regular basis as I seem to miss it more frequently. The feijoado is the best.

Had a great steak here and my other half had a very good paella. Good food, good service and at reasonable prices, would recommend.

Romantic dinner for two before a show. Reserved and received a quiet corner table. Began with a nice glass of Cab. Appetizer of Calamari was more than ample size for two with spicy dipping sauce. Dinner was seafood paella for two. Again more than ample (could not finish it) with side of HOT Brazilian sauce. Finished the evening with Caramel Flan. YUM. Staff was attentive and Maitre D who made our original reservation, recognized us when we walked in, checked in with us twice during the meal and again as we left. Jazz Trio was beginning as we left. They were also very good and would have liked to stay and listen to the music but had to head off to the show. Will definitely return. Thank you to the entire staff front and back of house for a lovely evening.

Spent three days in city and in my opinion the meal here the best we had and the most reasonable priced. Was first place we ate, just a few steps from our hotel. I would have ate dinner here every night but wife wanted to explore and I could agree with that. Excellent service with food and drink to match.

We loved Via Brazil. It is a cozy, colorful space with great ambience. Service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and more than willing to help us navigate our way through an unfamiliar cuisine. The food was delicious. We started with the fried sausage and yucca. It was a tasty treat, and more than enough for two. For entrees, I had the Chicken Bossa Nova (garlicky, lemony, wonderful), and my husband had grilled filet (great presentation, cooked perfectly, huge portion). Both were served with beans and rice. Honestly, we should have split one entree. So much food! For dessert, we took the waiter’s suggestion and got the flan. I’m not usually a fan, but this version had a cheesecake density that I loved. Just wonderful. With wine and a cocktail, our total bill (with tax and tip) was $150. A bargain in NYC for a great meal!

I was skeptical that we could find an authentic Brazilian restaurant in the middle of the theater district. But Via Brasil was a pleasant surprise. Two of us had Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa - shredded baked cod, potato, onion, olives and egg served with rice. I doubt that many tourists order it. It certainly tasted authentic and like someone's grandmother might make. Service was prompt and we made it to our show without rushing. We will definitely return.

Very disappointed with food and service again won't be back. Looked like they were in a hurry to close and prices were high for the atmosphere of a diner

Very nice food and not so expensive. Service is great. We had some steaks which were done as we asked and were very good. Side dishes also home made and fresh. The interior look is not something to brag about and the paper maps on the table does not add to the feeling - but the kids wont notice any of that...

This restaurant seated 12 of us with no reservation Sunday evening post nyc marathon. They accommodated us beautifully even rearranging tables for us to be together. The food was delicious, everyone loved their meal, appetizers thru dessert and cappuccino. Service great. Highly Recommend this restaurant and staff.

The food and drinks were very good, the ambience was inviting, but nothing that was spectacular to bring it to five stars.

Go for fantastic food, that happens to be Brazilian. Be sure to try a caipirinha. We visited on Valentine’s Day, which can be a busy night that compromises. Not a Via Brazil. Our service was perfect and food superb. We keep coming back in all seasons. It’s been here since 1978 for a reason. Prices good for this quality in NYC.

Stopped in for a nice business lunch and had a good Brazilian meal. The Milanese was crisp and tasty and the dessert was delectable. The only disappointment was the bread, but it was on,y the house bread and not a specialty bread.

The food is consistently good. I had shrimp in a pineapple sauce that was sweet, tangy and delicious. My husband's osso bucco was falling off the bone. The service is always that perfect balance of professional and friendly. To top it off, the jazz was great. They've also managed to create a fun vibe that isn't too noisy. Via Brasil just always gets it right!

I like this restaurant The location is really good - quite central but on a quiet street so it was not to busy or hectic. The Restaurant was quiet but we visited around 3pm on a weekday so that was understandable. Firstly the restaurant was clean, it was spacious and quite luxurious compared to the value of money which was priced well. The staff are very friendly and the wine was firstly good. The menu was vast and was a good balance between meet, fish and vegetarian - excellent that the waiter had good knowledge and provided great passion and advise about the food. The fish I want for and it was lovely and good quality

We are foodies and wanted a really good steak... they didn’t disappoint. The toilets were very clean also. Very attentive Luan was amazing and so knowledgeable about the dishes ... Highly recommend..

My friend and I walked in after a long day in the city. The outside makes this restaurant seem casual, so we were surprised when we stepped in to hear live music, feel a warm energy all over, and see black tie waitstaff. We sat near the back, and had a lovely waiter who went above and beyond. Unfamiliar with Brazilian food, he explained some items we did not know. I ordered one of the nightly specials, a chicken with heart of palm sauce and rice. I was unfamiliar with heart of palm, and the dish exceeded my hesitant expectations. The waiter even brought us out some raw heart of palm to try during our meal so we could be more familiar with the flavor! It was so kind and sweet of him. The other staff was wonderful as well, and attentive to our needs. After walking all day in the cold, we were extremely thirsty and the staff was extremely attentive and filled our glasses no less than ten times. If ever New York again, we absolutely will be revisiting Via Brasil.

I was in a bit of a hurry to catch my plane, and my waiter did a GREAT job getting the food served quickly. Decent caipirnha, FANTASTIC black beans. lovely pao de quiejo. I had the grilled chicken and it was cooked to perfection. And don´t forget the quindjin (or however you spell it)---SO glad I stopped!!!!!

The Via Brasil Restaurant is the close you can get to real Brazilian food in NY. Besides our famous Churrascarias or Steak Houses, this Restaurant delivers a real taste of the Brazilian Cuisine. I had a Feijoada that is the Brazilian Bean Stew with some pork cuts. The dish was great and plenty!

Located in Little Brasil, it's definitely the best place to go for authentic Brasilian food, especially the steaks. You can get a variety of different meats but I will tell you that if you go there, and don't have a steak of some kind, you are really wasting your experience here. Their steaks are beyond unbelievable in quality. So tender and tasty without being overly oily, this place is well known for the beef game. Get steaks done up to medium-well, don't go past that (well-done) or you'll really deplete the steaks of their tender greatness- which is true for most steaks but especially true of Brasilian steaks. The prices are a little on the high side, but considering where it is located, and the portions you're getting, it's still a good thing for a special occassion. I always go to this place when there is a band playing, and I have a party of 3 or more. It's a very lively place, especially if you get in on a Friday night. If you're the type to worry about price, but still want to get the intimate experience in with another, again, Friday night is the time to try the place (make a reservation). You can take a date here, sit at the restaurant's bar, or get some coffee and treats there instead of a full meal, while enjoying the band and that conversation, instead hitting a regular bar that night. Some people are worried that the music will overwhelm the conversations they're having, but that's not the case, trust me. I've sat next to the band, many times, and have had no problems. Staff is very helpful, very attentive and polite.

We found this restaurant on our recent visit to New York. We went with family and enjoyed it. I had a steak meal and it was excellent. The price was quite reasonable and the service was good.

Via Brasil Restaurant is not a good otion to Me. Touristic places like this, are not good for Me. I went more than 32 times to NYC on vacations always and my time is very short, always too. SORRY!!! (expensive!!!)

Wonderful atmosphere, food, and service! It's worth the short walk from the theater district. The traditional Brazilian food did not disappoint.... and don't skip the coconut flan - the best I've ever had! Great find and only a 7 minute walk from Broadway....a quiet retreat from the chaos of Times Square, which is just a block and a half away.... will definitely return for more!

Nice atmosphere and Brazilian music on weekends. Food is really really good and authentic. Moderately pricey but definitely worth it

We went to Little Brazil looking for a restaurant that is no longer there, so we stopped at Via Brasil. My husband and I both ordered the churrasco and it was good. My brother and his girlfriend ordered a chicken dish that they were not impressed with. The service was good and the food OK. No chimichurri, which was a disappointment. I would not go back.

My boss and I went here for dinner after work. It’s a beautiful and quaint restaurant with very good service. It’s in the Little Brasil section of Manhattan not far from Rockefeller Center. I had the Fejoada, single serving, and my boss had the shellfish paella. I finished with my favorite Brazilian dessert, Quidim. We enjoyed our first experience and I’d definitely go back.

We’ve stopped for drinks but had never moved beyond the bar snacks. The caipirinhas are Rio quality, probably better. Loved everything we had for dinner. Service was fantastic.

Came here with my husband for dinner before going to see the Radio City Christmas Show in December 2015. We were seated right away. The live music was absolutely beautiful. Servers were helpful and very nice. Our food was delicious and we did not have to wait very long. Came back in January 2016 to take my mother in law out for her birthday. My in laws are born and raised in Brasil and loved everything about this restaurant. We will absolutely be back!

I have Ben coming to this restaurant since the 80s, and always enjoyed the meal. This time I felt there was something missing the the meat they served: that typically Brazilian taste was not found and the medium to rare came medium to well done! The caipirinha was still terrific, so I had three! I'll be back next time, and hope to recuperate the old taste!

We had a very good experience here. Great service, good food, and excellent caipirinhas. Everything was tasty and we left feeling very satisfied.

Service here could not be beat, they took care of us like royalty. We ordered the pao de queijos and they were excellent. Churrasco turned out to be a little disappointing, the meat had excellent flavor but was quite tough and not as done as we would have liked. The farofa was different than our Brazilian friends make at home, this had lots of vegetables in it. Prepare to leave a little cash here as well!

Just tried this spot for the first time when visiting the area. This staff was so welcoming and great! I had the Camarao Com Abacaxi - this was the most amazing dish I have ever had at a restaurant! The flavor was so unique and delicious- it was accompanied with a Caipirinha! Yum!

We ate here on our last night and wished we had tried it sooner. We ate off the set menu and both of us had a lovely meal. Friendly staff and good choice of drinks too. Reasonable prices for New York, I would definitely go there again if I get a chance.

A fabulous restaurant with a varied menu of delicious authentic Brazilian dishes, attentive and efficient service that does not break the bank. We were all delighted with our choices.

Had dinner here with another couple. All four meals were outstanding. I had a delicious mixed grill assortment of meats prepared on a skewer, my wife's chicken was cooked to perfection. Our friends both got seafood that they said was fresh and wonderfully spiced. Save room for dessert, the banana cake is dense, sweet and delicious. Lovely atmosphere, we were here mid-week and weren't rushed at all. It was quiet enough for conversation, the waitstaff was super helpful in making our choices. All in all a great experience. We'll be back!

Via Brazil is located not far from Times Square and provides good Brazilian food at a reasonable price. This is not, however, a restaurant that focuses entirely on churasscaria but rather provides a range of dishes. The pork and beans was very good and the best I have eaten outside Rio. My friends had mainly seafood and were very happy with their food. So if you want something outside the standard US fare this is a good place to go.

An excellent lunch , at a very reasonable price for Manhattan. They had a good selection of lunch entrées and all of our choices ( steak/fries, pork chop and braised ribs) were terrific. Large portions and great, friendly professional service. A great option for lunch!

That's my understanding, Via Brasil is owned by the same folks who own Plataforma, probably the most renown Brasilian restaurant in NYC. Wouldn't surprise me as the quality of the food and service of the former is on par of the latter albeit it on a slightly smaller scale and price. On a mild March afternoon, visited Via Brasil for lunch. A parking garage is conveniently located next door if you're driving. Thanks to the weather, the somewhat narrow establishment was open to the street - a small attractive bar, followed by a music area with a piano and then a pristine dining area. As usual, my Brasilian lunch companion helped guide the menu selections and with ordering in native Brasilian Portugues resulting in Torta de Bacalhau ( cod fish cakes), Frango Grelhado (grilled chicken breast served with mixed vegetables), Tutu a Mineira ( broiled pork chop, sausage, fried egg, black bean puree topped with sauteed collard greens ), Farofa ( a Brasilian staple ) and of course, several Caipirinhas - Brasil's national cocktail. For dessert, Manjar, a delicate flan. In short, the food and service were impeccable and comparable to Plataforma where we've also dined, while the setting was more intimate at a cost of $117 excluding gratuity. Reservations are probably necessary on any week-end - highly recommend a visit.

Excellent place, excellent food, excellent service, excellent price-quality ratio, Did I mention it was excellent?

I would recommand the bife parmigiono and the bife with frites. Very nice meat and friendly people. Would go again

We will definitely be going back here. Everything we had was very good. The service was excellent and they even had live entertainment.

We called in last night and had a really good dining experience. Warm welcome on arrival , drinks ordered and now down to the serious work of choosing our dinner. So for our starters it was the sausage and potatoes and my wife had the fish cake, both delicious. For our mains I had the house special ( the name escapes me ) which was a very deep cast iron pot of goodness full of different meats, black beans and in a intense sauce accompanied with rice and veg , my wife had braised Brazilian beef in a red wine sauce. Both dishes cooked the perfection and packed with flavour. For desert we shared a coconut flan with prune sauce again very nice. The portions are very generous trust me on that. Our waiter ( tall chap with grey hair ) was attentive and engaging so thank you sir. We really enjoyed our meal so no hesitation in recommending Via Brasil 10/10

Excellent reception and assistance by the staff. We came for lunch and enjoyed thoroughly the Brazilian dishes. Well prepared beans, saucages and shrimps. Go and try this yourselve, and remember easy on the caipirinha.

Stayed at nearby hotel and decided to stop in for lunch. Tremendous! Moderately priced and the food was excellent. Give it a try when you visit NYC.

The food was delicious!! From the beef (picanha) to the sides, everything was well made. Had a caipirinha too which was excellent too. They were very nice and accommodating to our kids. And the dessert (can’t remember the name) was also so so good. The place is nice and our waiter was very friendly and like I said, accommodating. I would highly recommend it.

I ate steak at a fancy French restaurant two nights before having lunch at Via Beasil, and I greatly preferred the chirasscuro here. It's reasonably priced at $27 for a large portion and very delicious. Good service and good food. Highly recommended.

Very nice restaurant, the music had the appropriate volume the service is good and the space is comfortable. Good option to eat in New York

I found via Brazil by Mistake, but am glad I gave it a try. The cheese bread was light and fluffy, and they provided me with a lovely pepper and oil mix for my sausage and fried yuca. The caipirinha was boozy, and the bartender who was serving be my meal was delightful.

Had lunch here before a show. Service was attentive. Great recommendations from the wait staff. I would eat here again for sure!

I enjoyed steak Brazilian style and the fries that accompanied it. I love ethnic food, and would like to return here for another taste of South American fare. Nice place.

In my view this place is overrated here on TA. Were a group of 7, service was fast and attentive but food was at best average. There are definitely much better Brzl restaurants in NYC

Had a shrimp stew which was tasty and smooth in texture. Not much of a kick and could be accused of being slightly bland, in my opinion. Service was quick and pleasant. Bread is complimentary though you don’t get a lot. It was fine, but I think there are better restaurants.

This was such a surprising find. We happened upon it while out shopping in Manhattan after the NBC Studios tour, and while trying to get out of the super touristy area, stopped in here by chance. It was a beautiful lunch presentation and the service was wonderful. We walked in and I could tell we had escaped the mad Manhattan rush, as groups of locals, Businessmen, and Brazilians were dining in a relaxed but elegant European manner. We ordered the risotto and ragu with no idea what to expect, but they were both fabulous, and very reasonably priced! I was hesitant to leave, I could have stayed there forever! My new favorite restaurant.

Nice service & Great Food & Reasonable Price. Gallery Style inside the restaurant. Live music is also great addition!

We completely enjoyed our experience. The food was wonderful and the the service amazing. I would highly recommend!

Went here for lunch on Easter Sunday after walking 5th Avenue to see the Easter parade. I was early as they had just opened their doors and weren't quite ready yet but they still seated me and served me a cup of tea while I perused their menu. It was an excellent menu with a lot of traditional Brazilian dishes. I would have liked to try their beef dishes but wasn't hungry enough for it. So instead I ordered the tiliapia dish which was their lunch seafood special. It was perfectly grilled, served with rice and mixed vegetables. The atmosphere was very soothing with light Brazilian music playing in the background. I definitely would come back to this place to try the rest of the menu. It's a very wide range of dishes that sound absolutely delicious.

Family of six, our meal was outstanding . The atmosphere could not be better and yes the service was worth every dollar. I will come back when next in NY city. Thank you. In case you are wondering, I'm from the oregon -Washington area and yes I Highly recommend you eat here.

White table cloths, friendly staff and delicious food. We both had seafood dishes that were spicy good. It was such a good dinner after a matinee. I read the trip reviews before and it was on our walk back to the hotel. I am so glad we got the chance to eat there. We had top shelf drinks and such a wonderful and relaxing meal which was around $70. The Brasil special seafood dinner had lobster and a variety of other cooked just right seafood. A good side portions. Just makes me hungry to think of the tasty flavor. There were several families and couples when we were there. If you like spicy good Brazilian flavor, I recommend this place

We got tickets to a Broadway show so we needed a dinner place nearby. We don't have Brazilian food too ofter, so we thought why not? We made a resso for a Wednesday at 6:15. It was pretty empty. From the outside looking in, it does look like a tourist trap, especially because of its proximity to Times Square. But they had good reviews, and the menu looked good and was reasonably priced, especially for that area. We ordered: -Assorted Brazilian Hors d'ouevres - this was an assortment of 6 different empanadas/croquettes with various meat/cheese/rice filling. Some were good but there were a few I didn't like. I don't even know what was what because nothing was explained to us. But its a fun dish to share between two people if you want to try a little bit of all the flavors. This was served with a side of some chili/tomato oil, which was really good but if you can't take spice, this dip isn't for you -Feijoada Complete (black bean stew with fresh and dried beef, salted and fresh pork, bacon, sausage and ribs, served with collard greens, rice, sliced orange and farofa) - we shared this and it's definitely enough for two people. I didn't care for the beef, but love the pork because it was tender, and the sausage as well. The collard greens were a nice garlicky tradition. I've never had feijoada before but having stew with orange was new to me but it was actually kind of refreshing and cut some of the richness of the stew. I didn't care for the farofa (toasted cassava flour). It reminded me of eating nutritional yeast. We wanted a bit more carbs to go with the rest of the stew and the cheese bread would have been great to soak up all the sauce but unfortunately, this was sold out. How can you sell out of cheese bread before a dinner rush! We ended up getting fried bananas, which I do not recommend. We thought it would be like fried plantains but it was literally battered and fried halves of bananas, kind of like the banana tempura you would get at a sushi restaurant. I don't know if I liked this place enough to come back for a second visit, but it was a great first experience.

This restaurant was amazing, the service was 5* as the staff made sure that we had everything we needed and that the meal was okay, which it was. The food was out of this world, the steak was cooked to perfection. A must visit if you are in the city.

Were we in Rio? Excellent food, beautiful setting, this place knows what it's doing! Late Saturday night dinner, close to closing but not at all rushed. Full menu available; impeccable service from the maitre d' to the best waiter, Gaspar. Some experience in choosing Brazilian specialties, but Gaspar's help was wonderful. It was the best and his addition of that pepper oil completed it. Not to be missed. Try the 4-meat specialty and the fish.

I cannot speak too highly of this restaurant. We dined three times at this marvellous eatery during a recent stay and every meal was excellent. If you haven't eaten Brazilian beef before, then you are in for a treat! The nightly specials menu offers great value and the portion size is generous. But the key to this restaurant's success is the quality of the food, backed by very good service and a pleasant atmosphere. I would particularly recommend Thursday evenings where live music further enhances the dining experience. Overall, this is a great place to eat and I will be keen to return on my next visit to NYC!

After a long shoppingday we didn't want to walk far to get dinner.. zo we went next door. The menu at the door showed prices around 16-20$. But once inside the menuprices were higher. (Except for the specials). No drinks were listed on the menu, only to discover a glas of wind cost $11,- the bread we didn't asked for was also about $8, And tips must be at least 15%. The have it, printed on the bill "to help you". The food was oké but nothing special. Next time we 'll walk an extra mile..

The food was good and the partions were big. Little diissapointed getting rice insted of risotto. However the experience got really bad when getting a bill with prefilled tip of 22% Not a good way to get happy customers.

Great Place to eat and staff were great steak cooked to perfection live music just right temp to set a great night out price was good to would I change any thing NO

Food is great, the management really goes out of their way to accommodate everyone, meal arrives in a timely manner, overall great vibe for everything Brazilian!

The meat was all bones and fat, pretty bad food... the sauce and the rice were the only good thing 😊 BAD experience, not worth the money!

All three of us had one of the specials. The main menu is typical NYC prices but the specials are more affordable. Very tasty - especially the dish with chicken in heart of palm sauce.! Very friendly waiter served free bread (but they charge $5 for a bottle of water).

Stopped here for a few drinks. Had some great caiprihanas and good conversation with a very nice young woman waiting on the bar. Very friendly place.

The food is authentic. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Rodrigo was interested in our visit and our plans. Well worth a visit.

Sightseeing with a friend from out of town and wanted to dine on Brazilian without eating as much as the typical Rodizio fare restaurants. Picanha and Skirt steak were excellent. Appetizers of fried calamari and linguica. Service was excellent.

I love via brazil. It is not a churrascharia but has great food you would expect from a abrazilian grandma. Delicious. comforting and delightful to the eye. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice ,warm and welcoming and the nightly entertainlng delightful.

Hostess so friendly, waiter polite and attentive, what a nice place to eat a delicious and fresh Brazilian food. I’m a big fan of parmigiana that’s what I ordered, so yummy! The best I ever had in the US. Also had plum pudding which I highly recommend cause tastes amazing. I’ll be back for sure.

Group of four and we all enjoyed our meals. The restaurant was quite crowded on the evening we stopped in...and while the staff did their best to keep up, the service was slow at times. The food - we had pasta, steak, seafood - was cooked well and presented very nicely.

We found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and liked the reviews so decided to try it. The empandas were good, the chicken in Hearts of Palm sauce was delicious. The service was excellent and the meals were reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend this to others.

Great traditional Brazilian food in a warm and friendly restaurant . Decent wine list that will please most people and wonderful caipirinhas! Carne secca with acorn squash was delicious as were all their churrascos ( grilled meats) Esp the skirt steak. The ossobucco de porcho was well prepared and huge. Finished our dinner with flan and espresso! Obrigado. Good idea to have reservations as they’re usually full.

Loved this place. Very attentive and friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Unusual, tasty dishes. Generous portions. Not a meat on the skewer chain. Spotless.
An awesome cultural experience!
This is our first time in New York and we wanted to experience the vast culture. Our bartender, Camilla, was very friendly and provided lots of education on the culture of Brazil including traditional foods. We took her advice and ordered two traditional meals, Feijoada Completa and Moquecas Peixe. The food, along with the experience, was excellent. Camilla warmed our hearts as she talked about the food that continues to remind her of her grandmother. If we ever get back to NYC we will stop in again.
