Don't let the lack of "curb appeal" stop you from going to this restaurant. It is a gem of an Italian place. For those that have gone to good and great Italian places, you know getting house made tube shaped pasta is rare. It is labor intensive and they are usually making many other pastas. The menu when we were there had 2 dishes with house made tube shaped pasta. Soooo good. That said, my dish with the slow roasted Long Island duck was most excellent. We had appetizers and half orders of pasta entrees before a show. It was the perfect amount of food, especially if you try to manage carb intake. If you like olives, try the meat stuffed olives. They were excellent.

Friends recommended this restaurant for our trip to NY. It was a bit out of our way, but the detour was worth it! The lunch menu was reasonably priced and and had nice choices. As appetizer we had the fennel soup and eggplant cannoli. Both were excellent. I am usually not a big fan of fennel but the soup was more cauliflower and excellent. For the main courses my wife had the duck ragou strazzopretti, absolutely mouthwatering! And I had their signature dish, the Casoncelli, ravioli filled with an eclectic mix of veal and other ingredients. The flavor was subtle but amazing. They also have a nice wine list, but we stuck with the carafe of Montepuliciano Abrruzo

Exceptional melt in your mouth spinach lasagna with a cream sauce (instead of a red sauce)! We had the Panacotta for dessert - the four of us shared it for a taste. It was soooo delicious we ordered a second one! The service was spot on! It was a great way to begin our visit to NYC!

We went for the first time to this restaurant couple of days ago, and if you appreciate your time and money I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Ambiance and decoration very poor, bad service, bad food quality and very expensive. 1) Food: Extremely poor quality overall. Everything that we ordered was tasteless. Also, we ordered the “ravioli di zucca all montovana con mostarda di cremona” as a main course to share with my girlfriend and we got 4 raviolis per person. 4! Price of this course: $24. 2) Service: We went to have dinner at 10pm, and we had 5 waiters (not exaggerating) 10 feet away starting at us constantly. Clearly they just wanted to close the restaurant to go home and they were pushing us to finish our meal ASAP. 3) Price: We ordered 1 STUZZICHINI (Italian snack), 1 salad, 2 main courses (including the ravioli described above), 1 dessert, 3 glasses of wine. Total: $144. Not coming back again.

We liked the restaurant ambiance very much, however I ordered the ravioli with squid ink and calamari and no one indicated that the dish was terribly spicy. I should have been forewarned. Plus, there was hardly any calamari anywhere. It really was misleading and i would have wanted more guidance on ordering. The caponata appetizer was one of the best we ever had anywhere. Service was attentive, but a heads up about the main dish was needed and would have been greatly appreciated. Also not looking for a large portion, but it really was small.

I love a good martini and these guys know their stuff. It was so good, i had two. Big mistake which I paid for the next day. Also, the happy hour price was amazingly low - dangerous but appreciated.

We had a lovely lunch on our way to a matinee. We did the prix fixe lunch which had some interesting choices and a bottle of wine. Service and food excellent. Not crowded like some NYC restaurants.

My party of three had dinner after seeing Angels in America a two blocks away. We arrived about 5:30. When we left after 7 the place was packed. We three had excellent fish - halibut, orate, and scallops. We each were happy with our selection. Service excellent and despite the fact that the restaurant was filling up we were left to sit and enjoy our post dinner conversation.

Usually make reservations at this restaurant pre theatre and it doesn't disappoint. Menu is not for you if you are looking for a Classic Italian place. Menu is very modern but very good. I've had several dishes... Seafood calamari is excellent; salmon, spinach lasagna all terrific. It's reasonable priced for NYC and service is usually good. Not a large space do could get loud when crowded.

I went to this restaurant because my mother had gone already twice during other trips in NYC. The service was okay and the food was great. The problem became when we asked the waiter if he could call a taxi for us as it was pouring raining and his response was that we would have to go outside and raise our hand.

Great Italian on the west side. Fabulous pasta and great veal scallopini. Good service as well. Make a reservation and go to this wonderful restaurant

Nicest meal of our trip to NYC. Their signature pasta dish casconcelli was divine. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive without being intrusive. We'll be back next time in NYC.

Food was excellent, served hot, beautiful presentation. Service was very good, a very attentive staff that works together. Ambiance is very comfortable, large tables, plenty of room between, attractively decorated; lively bar adds tol atmosphere.

My wife and I enjoyed a post-matinee dinner here. Service was excellent - friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. Very cool atmosphere and the food was excellent. Rice balls with a hint of truffle, pumpkin ravioli and pasta with duck ragout. The food is fresh, flavorful and the ingredients are well balanced. As good as advertised!

My husband and I had an outstanding meal, excellent server - and serendipity, for we ate preheater on the night that the restaurant does its annual tree lighting ceremony. Live 3 piece music w great trumpeter and much excitement. (Lighting is repeated later in the evening for the next seating.) This tradition is done always on the night before the Rockefeller tree lighting, so do keep this in mind. The pastas all are homemade; we tried two and each was skillfully prepared. Just outstanding rack of lamb, which they kindly split for us. And my quest for the perfect panna cotta is complete. Found it, richly enhanced by their deluxe sour cherry sauce. I found out that the restaurant is privately owned, and the establishment reflects hands on attention of the owner and the chef. Our third time there - and it keeps getting better!

5 days in New York and a visit to ViceVersa was our treat to ourselves as an upscale restaurant in an already expensive city. Positive's first, it's a nice place and the food we had was very good. My wife ordered the Lasagne , they brought her lamb. We explained that we had ordered lasagne not lamb, "oh don't you want this then"? Was the response! Obviously not....we ordered lasagne! The lamb was taken away but my food remained on the table so I waited a while, no lasagne arrived as mine was starting to go cold I ate it. 35 minutes later, long after I had finished my pasta and after numerous inquiries about the missing lasagne it arrived. So I watched my wife eat her meal as she had watched me eat mine. Not the experience we had hoped for. The LARGE bill arrived (we had 2 courses and some nice wine). I asked to see the manager to discuss experience versus expectations and bill size! "He's gone home" was the response, (the place was still full, are you kidding me, this is supposed to be a smart restaurant). The chap behind the bar was aware of our issues and reactively rather than proactively said he could knock 15% off the bill. Too little too late, like I said what a shame!

Hubby and i visited before a matinee on a Sunday and were surprised by how yummy and interesting their food is. Bloody Mary's that are perfectly balanced, eggs Benedict beyond the ordinary, and an egg-white truffle omelette that is really more like a soufflé!

Wonderful ambience, great food and service. Menu also interesting though nothing out of the ordinary. However, after having been to quite a few places that really disappointed, this was one place we really were satisfied with.

Met friends before seeing a Broadway show. Despite our friends being late, our meal was not rushed and we had plenty of time to get to the theatre. Food was very good and reasonably priced, considering the location. Servers were very friendly and efficient.

I've been to ViceVersa several times before, or after a Broadway show. It's walking distance to most theaters. It's cozy atmosphere, including outdoor seating during nice weather, are superb. I've eaten their scallops twice and they're fresh and delicious. The ravioli is amazing along with other pastas and salads. Great full bar and spectacular service from the wait staff and the owner!

Usually we trust Trip Advisor completely. This place had great reviews but we found the food disappointing, the service lame and the price inflated for such an underwhelming experience. We actually wondered if management had changed as it was so disappointing. Can't recommend it but maybe we got them on a bad night. Take your chances as we aren't going back. Rest of New York restaurants were great.

For most europeans, american food is too salty and from processed foods. We ordered the lasagna (25$) and some other pasta (15$) They could have been great but it was too salty.... Still overpriced. Restaurant is crowded and loud. 25 min waiting for the lasagna. Won't recommend

Every year for the past five I have taken my former students to ViceVersa for lunch. Thursday is best--no matinees, and the pre-fix offers lots of choices. Wonderful staff, and the food is consistently tasty. The ambience is great--there's a garden too. What's not to like?

We booked this place with the recommendation by one of our guest joining us for dinner before going to the theatre. I was pleasantly delighted by the menu and the quality of service was impeccable. ITs ne of a few restaurants where you can have a conversation with your guest without having to raise your voice or strain to hear. I would highly recommend this place for all. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but well worth the money for the quality of food and service. As I always say you get what you pay for. PLease leave room for dessert as the hot chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream is to die for.

Had dinner here with friends. I started with the Eggplant Caponata which was tasy and a tad sweet, followed by the salmon which was wonderful and also brussels sprouts which had bacon and a hint of sweetness.

The menu was varied and interesting. The food, the drinks and the ambiance were as close to perfection as possible but the waiter, David, made the experience even better. He made us feel at home, was attentive and made great suggestions, especially the delicious wine. We usually like to try different restaurants while in the city but will definitely return to ViceVersa.

Nice experience with delicious, freshly made pasta. The space was lovely and service good. Cute little courtyard as well.

We had an early dinner after a matinee show. The service was wonderful. The food was fresh and delicious. The wine a little on the expensive side really no reasonable choices by the bottle. We would definitely go back, the décor is lovely as well.

I've been going back to this gem for years on every one of my 4 or 5 trips a year to New York City. It's comfortable, spacious, friendly and the food is very good. Their pastas are amazing and I love that you can order a half or a full size portion. Their seafood is always excellent. A great place for conversation and catching up or a celebration. From 6 to 8PM its mainly a pre-theater crowd and from 8PM on it morphs into a neighborhood place for those in the know. The drinks are good and the wine list is wonderful with many well priced wines. When the bill arrives they present the table with a plate of complimentary bite sized dessert cookies.

My wife and I have been coming here for years -- it is one of our favorites overall, and the best Italian in the Theatre district. I started with the sauted squid -- none better. My wife had a half-portion of pappardelle with venison: excellent. The New Zealand Suavignon Blanc was cheaper than the Sicilian white, and much better. My wife had the Orata: wonderful; I had the Tagliolini with mushrooms and shaved parmigiano cheese: I ate every morsel. We were too full for dessert, but our capuccinos came with small cookies that were much appreciated. Service great as always, food the best.

We ate here before the theater and all agreed it was one of the best restaurants we've eaten at for a long time. Delicious Bolognese spinach lasagna, chicken and fish entrees. Excellent service.

Recommended by a friends daughter so we went early before a play. Sat out back in the garden, which was super quiet and very nice. Service was excellent (David) as was the food and wine. Actually so good, we went back again the next night. Would definitely recommend. Not super fancy or expensive, just in the sweet spot of well done (nice tablecloth setups inside), and comfortable.

Great service at this small Italian restaurant close to the Gershwin Theatre. First to dinner @ 4:30 with attentive staff. Explanation of the food was great as we took advantage of eggplant appetizer, which was great. Homemade pasta was terrific! For desert we had the apple tart with vanilla ice cream, which was great as well. Overall we were pleased enough to say we would look forward to going there again.

Fantastic Italian food in Hell's Kitchen. A good friend of mine introduced me to this spot now any time I feel like Italian food I want to take a trip to NYC just to eat at ViceVersa. I had a pasta dish with a parmesan cheese sauce, only half a portion. I showed incredible restraint by NOT licking the bowl. Unfortunately I could not indulge in the pear martini due to being with child :) but I had a sip of my friends and it is delicious. Looking forward to my next visit for a full glass (or five). Even if you are full do not forget dessert! We shared four different desserts :) you only live once, right?!

17 Years, still outstanding, Best full 10 oz. martinis in NY. Excellent food (try the veal), world class service, great desserts. Nothing missing. Just excellent.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend of the owners. It did not disappoint, and in fact was incredibly impressive. The entrées, service and atmosphere was first-class and very welcoming. Highly recommend.

Ate here in April 2016 with a larger group. The staff was very friendly on arrival and seated us quickly. Wait staff was very efficient, they served us an excellent red wine and focacia breads. The salad was exceptional. We ate off a fixed price menu, the salmon was quite good, vegetables cooked just right. A few of the diners from France thought the Tiramisu was not traditional and the flavor was slightly off. I thought it was a different interpretation on Tiramisu. The pace of the meal was just right, the owners of this restaurant understand the customer is the focus and it shows. What separates this restaurant from others is the combination of great food and exceptional service.

Vice Versa has the opportunity and cuisine to be extraordinary and create dining experiences. Because of the proximity to the Theater District, the chef, the wait staff and the experience all felt rushed. The 1st and 2nd courses were good, and a good value, so I would recommend to a friend pre-theatre. But if the restaurant has ambition to go from good to great, they should remind themselves that great dining, like theater, has a pace to savor.

Having read an excellent review for this restaurant in the Lonely Planet guide, we decided to give this a whirl. The atmosphere is very nice, not too busy with just the right amount of diners. The menu was decidedly underwhelming and to be honest we struggled to find something to choose but eventually picked 2 mains. We also ordered some bread and literally 1 minute later a plate of focaccia and ciabatta arrived .. it was stone cold .. straight out of the fridge cold!! Having eaten at many Italian restaurants in the past, I was expecting the bread to be warmed up slightly. The mains arrived .. eventually!! Spinach lasagne which looked like it has just come out of the microwave and was soggy! The seafood ravioli was either too al dente or soggy and was extremely salty. All the time we were there the staff were always hovering .. over attentive in my opinion. All in all a very disappointing experience and don’t think we’ll be returning.

My boyfriend and I live across the street so V/V could easily become a mere "stand by". No way. This is fine food, served in a sleek comfortable, gay/straight friendly setting by a competent (eye-catching) staff. Great for groups, celebrations, or dinner for two. Food is tasty and well presented. Have a meal or enjoy life at the bar.

This restaurant rates well and I wish we had more time there. The usual pre show rush but they got us through with pleasant efficiency Great salami/ prosciutto platter to start then lobster ravioli A great Italian based wine list - we had the valpolicella ripasso which didn't disappoint!

Very nice venue with a little garden and classy setup. Service is OK, a little abrupt sometimes. There is no major critic on the food except the lack of taste and flavor.

All we wanted was a snack and a great martini. We got the great martini, and stayed for a wonderful dinner. Their pastas are wonderful, and come in small and large portions. We ordered three small portions to sample the eclectic array of homemade pastas with interesting sauces. The bread was great; service was friendly and helpful; and the setting was charming.

Had an early dinner before a Broadway play. Good selection of Italian dishes. Fish was excellent. Service efficient. Smart Italian atmosphere, good find in the theater district.

Steep prices for the food and plate size offered. Quality of food was ok. Abrupt and not friendly service at the table. Nice and quiet placement of the restaurant but loud music and bad acoustics inside. Lighting and decor was warm and soothing. Friendly and smiling hostess at the door.

Had dinner with friends the other night. Main issue I had was that they put Cilantro in the garden salad. WTF ??? Was inedible & I chose not to ask for anything different. Did not feel the food or ambience was worth the prices either.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge for a meal prior to going to a show. The restaurant was ideally located to the Gershwin Theatre. The decor of the restaurant was very inviting. The service was great. The food was delicious! I liked that they offered smaller versions of the entrees. That allowed me to get an appetizer, entree and dessert without feeling overstuffed prior to heading to the theatre. I got the bocconcini salad, pasta, and panna cotta. All were so yummy. Prices were reasonable. I would not hesitate to go back.

Great wine list, wide menu choice. Specials are better than the regular menu, pasta a bit overcooked. Crowd was sparse for a Sunday evening.

My wife and I were visiting New York and we met up with my sister and niece for Easter Sunday lunch at this restaurant on their recommendation. We were expecting brunch but because it was Easter Sunday the menu on was a special one. I started with wait for it sautéed dandelion leaves different to say the least. My main course was lamb and very tasty it was too. The dessert were delightful as well. The staff are attentive without being pushy and the varied diners makes for great people watching. The restaurant has a great ambience and a splendid decor. With its outdoors terrace this restaurant offers a variety of dining opportunities.

We chose this restaurant as my friend is a vegetarian and they seemed to have some good options for her. The food was great, reasonably priced and the service excellent. It was very quiet for a Saturday night but we were told that this was because the city at the weekend in the summer is very quiet. This seemed to be the case wherever we went. Sadly didn't have room for dessert but was pleased to see that you could buy wine by the glass. Lovely little courtyard outside to sit in.

Great restaurant and staff and hospitality so glad we went to thus relaxed Italian restaurant nig choices abs authentic

Service was very slow at this restaurant. Took them almost 5 min to get me a sprite and no one was in the restaurant barely. The 2 course pre-fixe meals were good. I loved the green lasagna but i think it took 30-40 min to come out. My husband liked his swordfish too but we almost had to take our food to go since it took so long to get to our table. Not a good place to go before a broadway show.

I had a great dinner here with friends and family. The food is always excellent and the service warm but efficient. I think it is a particularly good option close to the Theatre District.

Went here for my birthday after a Broadway. Have been before and the food is consistently good as is the service. They also have a prefixed dinner. You cannot go wrong with the food or drinks here and it is close to the theaters. They are also open late.

ViceVersa is located in/near Hell's Kitchen area and just north of Broadway. We went there prior to an 8:00 show and the were mindful of our schedule which let us enjoy our meal without looking at the clock. The food was very well prepared and delicious, and the wait staff was attentive and enjoyable. The pasta was really good and home made. I had the tagliolini with mushrooms and my wife had the lasagna--both recommended--and we both enjoyed them. The restaurant has about 15+ tables and the atmosphere is lively, but you can still hear yourselves talk. This would be a good place for both business and on your own. I thought the dinner was reasonably priced based upon the quality and NYC. If you're like me, you may spend a lot of time looking up reviews on restaurants hoping you have a memorable and fun experience. I definitely recommend you consider ViceVersa in part of your plans during your next trip to NYC.

The interior décor was beautiful . One of the owners welcomed us at the door. We started with dinner with a very nice glasses of Malbec and crispy olives. We then had casoncelli , squid ink pasta and Bolognese pasta which were all excellent. We had a bottle of Italian red from their all Italian wine list. Please note that all their pasta is made in house and is available in half portions . We also had shrimp and lava cake. David , our waiter ,couldn't have been better. Bravo!

Vice Versa gives the theatre district a place to enjoy a wonderful meal, any time of the day. The simplistic restaurant has a distinguished blend of a traditional and modern ambiance that makes you feel at home. The service was outstanding, and the food exquisite. The servers are very knowledgeable and helpful when deciding what to order. Vice versa does and excellent job at satisfying customers beyond expectations, with its food quality and its outstanding cuisine. If you want a place to enjoy traditional Italian food Vice Versa is your new home.

We had a terrific experience here. The stuffed olives were great, and the Arancini, scented w/truffle, were even better - truly remarkable. We had smaller portions of 2 pastas: the Casoncelli and the Strozzapreti - both were perfectly prepared and a wonderful combination of ingredients. Along with one order of grilled veggies, and one yummy dessert, it was plenty of food. We left comfortably sated but not overstuffed. And the wine list had some very reasonably priced bottles, a pleasant surprise in NYC. Service was attentive without being cloying - thanks! The only suggestion I might make is that the music was quite loud, although it didn’t deter us from truly enjoying this meal.

Our first time here and even though a stormy and hectic holiday Friday night, the service and food was excellent.

We went to the restaurant after seeing a show on Broadway. It was just 30 minutes before the kitchen was supposed to close, but the waiter said it was not a problem to get dinner. Another company arrived after us, so we weren't the last ones. At first we got a good feeling, but as soon as we had ordered the service changed. Dry bread was wordlessly "dumped" on the table, and water likewise. Actually none of the staff said a word between placing the order and settling the bill. There was just three occupied tables in the restaurant, so I guess we were not ignored on account of work load. Where as the food goes, I ordered one of their specialties: Risotto with bone marrow. The bone marrow on top wasn't cocked through, running with blood and frozen/ rock hard in the middle. Needless to say, I didn't eat that. And no one bothered to ask if we enjoyed the food? Won't recommend anyone going to this restaurant.

Terrible. Terrible service and food. Please avoid ! We went here for some beautiful Italian food.... it was everything but beautiful

Our family of 4 dined here on a quiet Sunday night. The restaurant is lovely, very tastefully decorated. We shared the arancini and brussel sprouts to begin. The arancini was superb - very rich. It was not served with sauce - bit it didn't need any The brussel sprouts were very good.. We all had different pasta dishes for our main course and each was delicious. My spinach garganelli was the best pasta dish I've had since I was in Italy. We shared delicious chocolate cake for desert. Service was impeccable. A wonderful meal !

This is one of the most special restaurants in all of New York City. There are many places to eat in Manhattan but this is the best one in my book. From the moment you enter, you are greeted with a big Italian welcome and smile, usually on the face of one of the owners who is always there. You are seated in an elegant setting surrounded by waiters and guests all in the best of moods. The food is excellently prepared and presented from the appetizers to the entrees! Each one is unique and delicious. If you are on a diet, you will give it up for the experience of just being there. One of the the most beautiful times to go to Vice Versa is during the Christmas holidays. There is a huge brightly light tree in the outside garden area and invited coral groups to keep you in the mood all during diner. Don't leave New York City without visiting this elegant and fantastic dining room on West 51 Street. Combine this with a Broadway Show and you will have the most fantastic time that New York City can give you.

Vice Versa is located on a delightful Hells Kitchen block packed with old-New-York charm—low brick buildings, sunken front courtyards, restaurants, bars. It’s only a couple of blocks from Midtown but seems a world apart. The restaurant occupies a below-grade space with outdoor seating in both front and back. The interior, divided between a bar and a dining area, is beautifully decorated in shades of brown and taupe. Italian ceramics occupy niches in the walls. The food is excellent, Italian, not Italian-American. We highly recommend the strozzapreti—“priest-strangler” pasta—with duck ragout. Service is perfect, and prices are reasonable, at least by New York standards.

this is one of the best kept secret to go to before or after a show. its location is "wicked" good! they also have a great Sunday brunch if you are looking for a nice place before a Sunday Mat. the main room has great acoustics so the noise is light, and you can hear your guest. the main room also looks onto a outdoor patio and it adds a nice indoor/outdoor feel

When you go in New York City and you want to eat Italian food you must go in Viceversa restaurant. Good service good pasta good location all is perfect to exit satisfied 😊 I hope that see you soon

Lovely Italian restaurant in the theatre district and the staff are well aware of curtain times. Romaine salad and calamari for starters followed by wonderful roasted pumpkin ravoli, and fish for dinner. Should have opted for the full portion of ravoli as I left a bit hungry. No time for dessert.

My husband and I had come for a 4 night break in New York to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We'd been to see a fabulous show on Broadway. We originally wanted another restaurant but they were fully booked so before we left the UK we checked trip advisor to sort out somewhere else so decided to book this one online. Wrong choice!. The restaurant was 'buzzing' but I'm afraid the food we had was awful. Such a shame, as we wanted it to be so special which is why we booked an expensive restaurant in the first place as we don't mind paying over the odds as long as we are getting good value for money. I had the Dorada (bland) served on a bed of very chewey broccolli/spinich/olives – all very bitter tasting and swimming in what looked and tasted like a bog standard tin of tomatoes! I could have done a better job myself. It didn't need a qualified chef to cook this meal and it was a Saturday night so you would expect better than this. My husband's meal wasn't much better either – he had the scallops which again were quite bland and served on a bed of pureed lentils. The best thing was the side dish of potatoes! We had dessert which was OK but very small sized portions. I had tiramisu which was served in a cocktail glass with a few chocolate balls on top – gone in a couple of mouthfuls! My husband was satisfied with his 'gateau' (can't remember what it was called). This was the worst, most overpriced meal we've ever had. Never mind, the rest of our stay in NY was brilliant..........

This restaurant is going to the top of our “I’ll be back list”! This is a gem and the food was amazing. I’d you like great service, fine dining and truly homemade pasta then run, don’t walk to this lovely restaurant!!

Another Italian restaurant in NYC. Close to theater district. Very good food. The service not so much. They tend to,leave you alone for long periods which many times is good but you do need water, need to order, need the bill. Nice atmosphere. Had the house lasagna; delish. Like butter!

Extremly noisy. Pasta mediocre and overcooked. Slow service. Poor wine list. Expensive for a below average restaurant.

This was my forth time in this restaurant. The portions keep reducing every time I go there. Conscious of this fact, I always choose the full portion, which makes me wonder how small the 1/2 portion would be. $15 wines are priced $50, margueritas 20% above market price. Service is nice and food is tasty. This still keeps me loyal to Vice Versa, but lately shaking.

We were looking for a good Italian restaurant in NYC before our play on Broadway. Unfortunately we stumbled across Viceversa and had our first major culinary disappointment. We were the only patrons, yet the wait staff seemed indifferent to our needs and not service oriented. The menu was limited and the quality insufficient to warrant the price. Keep looking

Walked over after Fun Home....go see that show, btw!!!! The romaine salad with gorgonzola and speck was fresh, crunchy, and perfectly dressed to go with the house signature pasta.....don't recall what it's called but it's little pockets of veal and raisins with brown butter and sage. I wanted to lick the plate...but I'm a lady. ;) The bread was cold and the butter was cold....other than that the meal was just right. Also they do half portions of pasta which was plenty since we were eating late. My husband had the duck ragu pasta....it was good but veal pasta was much better. There's outdoor seating both in front and back. Back garden is lovely.

This was a recommendation from a stranger, and it turned out to be a winner! Good food, great service and a beautiful place to dine. I should have ordered a pasta dish, all homemade, as did everyone else I was dining with. The swordfish I ordered was good, but nothing special. Everyone else loved their meal.

We visited ViceVersa for the first time for a small birthday celebration. The room is lovely and the service earnest and professional. The food was very good with the handmade pastas superb. What a nice restaurant in an area that can be hit or miss!

Enjoyed a light meal at the bar prior to heading out to show. Nice menu. Bartender went out of his way in insure my wife's food clergies were accommodated. Nice wine list by the glass as well. Look forward to going back and enjoying a meal in the main dining area.

We stopped here for lunch after reading a very good review in the Lonely Planet guide book. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, the waiting staff very helpful and attentive and the food is amazing. We had the $25 two course lunch menu and each ordered salads, me the Insalata Romana with grilled speck, apple, walnuts and gorgonzola cheese and the other half the Baby Spinach salad with crispy pancetta, pecorino, toasted almonds and mustard dressing. We both enjoyed them immensely, along with the focaccia bread that also came to the table. For main I had the absolutely amazing Casoncelli. This was Ravioli filled with veal mince and amaretti biscuits with pancetta and sage butter. It was without doubt the best Italian style dish that I've ever eaten. The other half had the Lasagne Verde which she thoroughly enjoyed and I have to say was probably one of the best lasagnes that I've ever tasted. Now some people's reviews have complained that the portion size is on the small size. This might be so for NY but by European standards it was spot on. For the first time since we arrived in NY we were able to fit in a dessert each and we were so pleased that we could. My selection of homemade lemon, coconut and red berry sorbets was fantastic and I'm told the tiramisu was top draw also. The waiter then brought out a plate of irresistible petite fours which we just about had room to enjoy. This was the best Italian meal that I've ever had and the $90 for both of us for 3 courses and a bottle of wine was very reasonable. I can't recommend Viceversa highly enough!

My wife and I dined here recently. I booked this restaurant about 4 months in advance after reading the reviews. The restaurant is very well presented and the service was very good. Unfortunately the food was just average. Nothing wrong it's it but it lacked flavour and was very plain. Even the dessert was bland. I mean, how can you have a dessert which is not sweet and lacks flavour. Considering the fact that this restaurant is not cheap, I expected so much more. To top off a very ordinary night by 1 am I was violently ill and stayed that way for the next 36 hours. It was definitely something I ate at Vice Versa as I had nothing to eat since breakfast in anticipation of a great meal. I will never forget Vice Versa, for all the wrong reasons.

I've been eating at Vice Versa Restaurant in Manhattan for a number of years on special occasions and for just a cozy dinner. The place is fantastic! When you walk in, you are greeted by the owner with Italian hugs as if you were a family member. The staff is just as friendly and always there to make your dining experience fun and fantastic. It's a special place to celebrate important occasions or just stop in to have a casual meal. The ambiance is special, as are the men and women who work there. The food is outstanding and always beautifully presented. If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion with an elegant experience, this is the best restaurant in NYC to do it.

We discovered this very nice italian restaurant during a long weekend in the big apple. Very good appetizers, tasteful octopus, wonderful fresh pasta and fantastic homemade desserts :) The waiters were thoughtful, the music playful, definitely our best meal in NYC!

I don't know what else I can say about the restaurant. I thing those attributes really sum up a good restaurant. I did not rate them excellent because I had nothing that truly wowed me, but that's okay. I would recommend this restaurant and I would return because you can tell that they are consistently good.

Nice location and friendly warm welcome. Starter and main course were delicious and reasonable prices. Option for small or big portion in main. Small was enough as European. Good wine list and the chosen Amarone was delicious of course. Desert (tiramisu) was way to cold and not so nice

Decided to try Vice Versa because it was a restaurant nearby the theatre. So glad we did. We didn't have reservations, and that could've been a problem, but the restaurant graciously accommodated us and seated us at a cozy corner table which we loved. The décor matched the holiday theme and we were very lucky to witness their Tree Lighting. The service was very good, the food delicious. If anyone likes pumpkin filled ravioli, please order it here, I enjoyed it immensely. The only negative I can say would be about the paltry amount of food given on the fresh mozzarella and tomato appy. A half of a tomato, with 2 halves of a extremely small fresh mozzarella ball didn't justify the cost.

Wonderful quiet restaurant tucked away near the Theater District. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Highly recommended for early dinner before the theatre or just a nice quiet dinner.

Vice Versa is a wonderful Italian restaurant in the theater district of NY. The food is amazing, the service is great and the atmosphere is lovely. I have been there several times and I have taken friends and family and it is always a great success. The pastas are delicious and the salmon was excellent. I know I will be going again.

A delicious Italian dinner with incredible, interesting flavors with great service. We started with a grilled octopus with fennel and orange and the sautéed calamari with artichokes and radicchio salad both dishes had wonderful interesting complimentary flavors For the main course we selected the small plates of Strozzapreti duck ragout and the veal raisins casoncelli here again wonderful flavors. Highly recommended for people that like interesting Italian food extremely well prepared

Enjoyed a delightful brunch featuring creatively prepared eggs. Service was outstanding and the food was well worth the price.

The Host (Franco) had the most pleasant demeanor & made us feel like we knew him for years. The chef (Stefano) came to visit our table. He was charismatic & his passion for cuisine was impressive. As far as the food, the pasta was outstanding as well as the fresh seafood. I've dined at many restaurants and Vica Versa has become my favorite. I was first introduced to it by a very good friend of mine, Dr. Michael Dattero. I have eaten there weekly for 2 years now. I highly recommend it. The staff as well as other guests are so friendly. Do not deny yourself of this wonderful experience.

My wife and I have been to this restaurant on several occasions over the last decade and we are always pleased. This time we took a new client and they were as well very happy. I am going to start with what I expect of any good Italian restaurant, which is that they go out of their way to make you satisfied. I am a picky eater and as an appetizer I requested a small portion (from their main course menu) of a pasta with their Bolognese sauce, it was one of the best I have ever had! Then for my main course they had a Cornish Hen, but theirs came with broccoli rob and something with garlic, I requested steamed broccoli and plain potatoes. My broccoli firm and hot and my mashed potatoes were smooth and delicious. I forgot what we had for dessert, we all had a fair amount of wine by that time, but I do remember we finished it all. Good restaurants with quality food and an enjoyable dining experience are not inexpensive, but finding one that gives you good value is a delight.

It is the only Italian restaurant where we go for dinner when we are abroad. Fine food, refined wine list, exquisite staff and magnificent owners.

Delicious food, Awesome staff and great bar! Franco and Stefano were amazing. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Everyone in the restaurant were smiling and really enjoying themselves. I highly recommend it and I will return every time I'm in NYC.

My friend and I came to talk and eat, in that order. Usually noise levels preclude the talking part, but here it was actually possible. Nice positioning of tables - not too close to each other. The North Italian food was excellent. The bread very good, and the Italian wines not too young. The service was helpful and unintrusive. We had no complaints - We each had a pasta dish, and strawberry shortcake. We would come again.

We visited this restaurant on our last night in New York. The food was delicious and very high quality and the service was attentive and friendly. The setting is pretty and we sat out on the front terrace. The location is near to Times Square but far enough away to be peaceful. Best Italian we’ve had!

We have eaten here once or twice a year in January of the last several years. Every meal I has been excellent. They offer half size portions for many things and that suits my wife just fine. On this visit we arrived on a very cold night and even though I had not seen it on the menu I asked about soup and was brought the most delightful bean soup ever. The rest of the meal continued to be excellent.

All the restaurants in all the world, why haven’t we ever been here. I guess the answer is the location? Located on West 51 street between 8th and 9th Avenue is somewhere we never thought of venturing to. American Express sent me a short list of restaurants in the area.when we were staying at the NY London hotel for dinner. Since we tried most of the restaurants in the past we decided to take the walk on a beautiful evening and see what Vice Versa was about. As soon as we walked through the door we knew we found a gem. The restaurant was busy with a moderate noise level for a Wednesday evening and we were greeted and seated promptly. As we were escorted to our table we could not notice some of the dishes that were being consumed. What we like was the tables were not overcrowded. The menu featured the nights specials and the seasons regular dishes. The cocktail and wine list was interesting and not overpowering. After relaxing with a cocktail we ordered dinner which was served to us in a leisurely time span which we enjoyed. The appetizers where interesting and capable of sharing. We tried the calamari with fried artichokes. The pastas were available in half portions allowing us to try a couple of different ones. We chose a pasta with peas and one with with mushrooms. We followed this with a sea bass the was cooked to perfection. Desert a must. Service was attentive but not annoying. We will return!

Best ever! Food was amazing and staff kept filling my wine glass. World Class! Visiting from Charleston SC, thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

We had two meals here on a recent trip to NYC. The restaurant has a lively atmosphere and nice bar area. The staff are efficient and attentive and the food is delicious. Pasta dishes are divine. There is a good wine list with good selection by the glass.

Vice Versa -- A perfect place for pre-theater lunch or dinner. My wife had a dish called veal with amaretto cookie which wasn't what you'd think. It's really veal wrapped in prosciutto with some almond pastry. I had pea soup and the swordfish dish. This is the only time in my life I've had swordfish that wasn't too dry. Just a light crusting, nice sauce and capanato. Geared to getting you out for the theater. A lot of tour bus types of ladies were here for this lunch. Our friend tells us that it gets quite lively at night with a more sophisticated crowd.

Love the homemade pasta. They always make us feel welcome. They have half portions of pasta you can get a appetizer or antipasti and still eat your dinner.

I have eaten at this place many times and never had anything less than a fine meal. Last Sunday I went in more than a half hour before posted closing and was turned away, told they were closed. People were still eating, and I wasn't coming in 5 minutes before closing. I voiced my disappointment that I was being turned away, but the receptionist could not have cared less. He said they were closing early because it was slow. Duh! Business won't pick up if they close early! I had been looking forward to dining there all day. I will think long and hard before trying again. Why bother?

I was traveling with a group and our first evening in New York City included a welcome dinner. We arrived at Vice Versa for an early meal. We had reservations and were expected. The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. The atmosphere, the efficiency of the food preparation and presentation, and the responsive service were all very commendable. The food was delicious. Next time I visit Manhattan, I'll return for another dinner.

Despite this chilly, grey Spring, my colleague & I had a warm, friendly happy hour at the bar with 1/2 price drinks, & delicious appetizers & pasta. The decor is lovely & service very attentive. The bartender recommended particular dishes for me, a vegetarian. We'll definitely go back!

How did I miss this attractive restaurant for so long as I wandered through the theater district? Well, no longer. I have been there thrice over the past few months, most recently as i sought refuge from the faux Irish celebrators on St. Patrick's Day. The ambience is comfortable but smart; the service, impeccable. I especially recommend the strozzapreti and the pappardelle. The wine list is very good as is the selection of wine by the glass.

We were looking for fine dining for our 33rd wedding anniversary. My wife made the best food choices; the arancini were full of flavor and the veal cutlets with prosciutto, parmigiana and truffles also excellent. My rabbit appetizer was lacking flavor and the papardelle with venison was very good, although I could not taste the chestnut in the pasta. The service was just right and the wine delicious (even if it did make up more than half the final cost). My one suggestion: if the chef is going to come out a mix with the guests, he should visit everyone, not just his friends and the famous. It makes the rest of us feel like second-class citizens.

Very inviting restaurant with an out door rear yard with tables for dining set in a garden setting. Very nice bread. A very Italian menu with a lot of interesting culinary compositions. There are small dishes which actually were bigger than expected such as two large veal & mortadella meatballs that were delicious. A second dish was asparagus with fresh sausage. A pasta of egg tagliolini with grated cheese & shitake mushrooms was excellent. Bronzino & swordfish were differently prepared. Finished off with a terrific pana cotta. Reasonably priced for what you received.

I went for dinner. The service and the staff are very good ! The place is very nice ! And, of course, the food is delicious !

You might walk past this restaurant and not notice it (we did this), but inside is like going into another world. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, with a menu of suitable variety and creativity. Service was very good quality. Well worth a visit!

First off its a beautiful contempory space with an outdoor garden in the heart of the city and not a " caricature of an Italian restaurant. The food is always fresh and well made...hand made in the case of the pastas. As the title says the menue is authentic yet original...classic yet innovative. The specials are never boring and the Arancini are the best I've ever had as well as a menu staple. The staff is 5 star as are the genuine Italian couple who own the place. I have become a regular and hope to be for many more years.

We had a nice family dinner here. Food and service were excellent and prices were appropriate. I think it's a great choice, particularly if you are in the theatre district.

This was not your traditional family NYC Italian restaurant (which I love for the record.) It was modern gourmet but not stuffy or pretentious. The servers were super friendly and helpful answering questions about the menu. We both loved our meals and will go back next time we’re in New York.

I've been to most of the "marquee" restaurants in New York - Per Se, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernadin, Daniel's, etc. etc. But Vice Versa is where I always come back to. Perfect service, exquisite food, cozy ambience. The very best New York has to offer!

wonderful dishes, both in presentation and taste. Fresh pasta has nothing to envy to any superb restaurant in Italy. Nice atmosphere and on top kids were treated very well by the staff. Highly recommended!

Our second visit even better than our first. Excellent selections to start and main courses. Fabulous wine list. Outstanding service. Chef/owner is the best.

I returned to my favorite NYC hotel---very nice and very cheap! And to what is a must-go restaurant right across the street. This time I had the octopus appetizer and a half order of the duck ragout. I could not have been more pleased with any dishes than these! The octopus was slightly warm and served with a side of cold potatoes, pickles, and marinated red onion. this was a perfect combination. The duck ragout was also delightful--served with strozzapreti pasta--WONDERFUL! A reasonably priced excellent wine (at happy hour price! yay!) was the perfect addition to the meal. The next night, I met a couple of friends there for drinks and appetizers and was again thrilled with the presentation, taste, price, and ambiance. this place has become very special to me and I don't concern myself with whether something I order will be good or not--it will be good!

This was our second time eating at ViceVersa and we had another excellent experience. Food was wonderful and service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The holiday decorations were still up and added a touch of festivity to counter the cold weather that night. Two of of us did the very reasonable prix fixe and had delicious beef short ribs and one of us had scrumptious ravioli. Desserts were terrific--don't miss the cookie box. Restaurant is a very short walk to the theatre and servers will make sure you do not miss your show. On a Wednesday night the place was packed but sound level was reasonable and service stayed excellent as the place filled up. Vastly nicer in every way than other places we've found in the neighborhood. Highly recommend it.

I've been here on three separate trips to New York and I've always had really enjoyable meals. The portions are reasonable and the quality is very good. I love the fact that you can get half portions of the pastas so that you can have them as an appetizer or as your meal if you're not too hungry. Their cheese and olives are perfect for sharing with a few friends and the garlic rubbed bread is delicious without being overpowering. They have a small, but well curated selection of wines by the glass. In addition to having tasty meals here, I also seem to always get an entertaining waiter.

Always love this place for a pre-theater dinner. Food is always great, enjoyed Tomato Mozzarella salad and a fish entree. Service is always good. Place is always busy so plan ahead and make reservations well in advance.

Ate here Sunday night after a 3pm matinee. Restaurant is beautiful, casual elegant with great service and food.

Every time I’m in NYC I go to ViceVersa. My parents were both born in Italy so I’m often critical of Italian restaurants. I would describe the food as authentic modern Italian. Even though it feels like an upscale atmosphere, it’s not pretentious at all. Most recently, I tried the Casoncelli alla bergamasca and it was unbelievably delicious. We sat at the bar and the owner introduced me to some new friends. Their mojitos are so fresh too. I love how it’s in the theatre district so it’s a perfect place to go to before a show. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had tickets to a show and the place where we had reservations told us when we got there early they gave our table away, but it would only be about 30 minutes. Leaving in a panic, we stopped in front of here to check our phone and I ran in...just to see. They said they were booked, but they could set up a table in the front! Perfect!! Right by the action, the staff were amazing, kept things moving, asking us lots of questions about what we liked, our trip, etc. got us in and out in 45 minutes with apps, meals and drinks. And the FOOD was amazing. Pasta done the way it should be. The arancini is great. Going to hit this place each time we take the week here!! Thanks for helping out and being such a wonderful experience!!

I have been to this restaurant several times and am always blown away. Service is superb, the room is comfortable yet vibrant, the food is . . . well . . . it's just really fantastic. We had been eating (and eating and eating) for several days at this point and so decided to go "light" (lol). We shared an appetizer of stuffed friend olives -- really really good and portioned so generously that sharing the dish was really the only way to eat it. Then we both chose the same entree: black squid ink spaghetti with jumbo lump crab meat and capers. It was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. When I was finished my stomach was telling me that I was full (it was a great portion) but my mouth was begging me for more. Fortunately the stomach won the argument. We shared an apple tart for dessert. Service was good, the maitre d' was relatively new but very pleasant. I know there are so many great restaurants in NYC, and I only get there once or twice a year for a few days, but I always want come here. It's that good.

We went there to have dinner with the family. Food was very good with a very good service. Considering I’m from the same city of the Italian chef, I have to say that was a gem finding my favorite food in NYC. I recommend to have casoncelli or scarpinocc if you love ravioli, but with more flavor. Thanks

My wife and I had dinner here before our broadway show. This was our first time at this restaurant and we couldn’t have been happier.

This was an Italian restaurant where we had a superb meal, served in a dimly-lit and attractive dining room with attentive servers. I had an entrée called Ravioli de Mare, which had various kinds of seafood over ravioli pasta, which was all very tasty and well-seasoned. The bread that came with the table was also superb. My dessert (cheesecake with cherries) was homemade and also very good. This restaurant was expensive, but on par with other NY City restaurant of that level. I would love to go back again for future meals.

Booked a table for 2 pre theatre for the wife and myself. Service from start to finish was absolutely on point! Not too shy but also not too over the top, just right. Asked us if we were seeing a show so they knew our time limit. The mrs had the asparagus dish for a starter and I had the buffalo mozzarella, both were absolutely superb. For our mains I had the scallops and she had the chefs special which was the stuffed ravioli. Now, as good as my scallops were (they were really good) my wife's ravioli was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted in my life. I tried a bit and was green with envy that I hadn't ordered it myself. PHE.NOM.ENAL!!! We followed up our meal with a mango sorbet and ice cream. We had a bottle of Pinot Grigio during our meal which was kept on ice for us. Absolute 10 out of 10 for this place and if we are ever back in NY and going to see a show on broadway, this will be our pre theatre meal. Staff very friendly and attentive. Can't fault the place for anything. Will definitely be back!

I was staying right across the street at the Washington-Jefferson Hotel and looking for a great place to eat. For some reason, the staff did not list this place when I asked. I was right there--so I looked at the menu---decided it would be good---and went in. So glad I did. I had only an entree---but the folks around me were having---and enjoying---several appetizers---and they also expressed their satisfaction with their entrees. I was by myself so I chatted with the nearby folks and got good reviews from all. It was also reasonably priced especially for NYC!

EXCEPTIONAL service from the warm greeting when we entered to the extraordinary northern Italian menu !! The only reason to walk away from the friendly bar is to be seated in the comfortable and inviting diningroom. Vice Versa is a must go if you are visiting NYC !!

So it's been awhile, just because we travel lot, but we stopped by last night for drinks and dessert. Franco the owner said "now it's truly Christmas since you are here". What a wonderful greeting. Stefano (chef / owner) was at the bar too. Great drinks, lovely time spent there. Food on everyone's plate looked great. Bought a box of their cookies, double yum. 21 years and still excellent.

We were recommended by a friend and were not disappointed. They have a great wine list with many glass options. We ordered an appetizer that we thought was the tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, but because it was an Italian word, he misunderstood and we ended up with a sauteed eggplant dish that was still delicious. I probably would have never ordered it because I don't care for eggplant, but they way the did it, it was great. All the pasta is made fresh in house. The chef has owned the restaurant for 19 years and is from Italy. So most of the recipes are truly authentic Italian. I had the dish that looks like raviolis, and it had veal in it. It is the chef's special dish from Italy. It had a sage and butter sauce on it. My wife had the crab pasta ragu. Great crab flavor, definitely a lot if crab in the sauce. We couldn't decide on dessert, so we picked the chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla gelato and the Panna Cotta with a sour cherry sauce. Both amazing and went really well with the Malbec. Our bill ended up being around $125 + tip. This included the 5 dishes talked about above and 3 glasses of the Malbec.

Viceversa has been my favourite Restaurant in NY since almost 12 years: the food, the drinks, the hospitality is absolutely excellent. I wont never be tired of praising this place and the people that are managing it! See you soon in NY!!!

We dined here for dinner, and the food was amazing. Would definitely return on a trip to NYC. In fact, I think this place is probably underrated.

Very friendly service We had: - Crispy Olives: too doughy - Mushroom Polenta: creamy and good - Casoncelli: very good - Spaghetti Chitara: heavy saucy - Garganelli Verdi : tasty but quite salty - Spada: sword fish, ok, a bit bland

Great Italian restaurant even that it is under the street level. If weather is nice try their patio and cross the finger that one cigar smoker will be there, otherwise is the best place to enjoy great food and a great wine list. Nice and friendly Italian waiters. We will try again this amazing restaurant in our next trip to NYC.

My brother and I came here for drinks after a Broadway show. They close early - we got in at 9:50 PM and they were closing at 10 PM. At first, it seemed like they didn't want to let us in and the bartender was not very friendly. In the end, however, we got what we wanted and the drinks and snacks were good.

We had a fabulous meal at ViceVersa. We began the evening at their beautiful bar, where they have happy hour, half priced cocktails on Fridays between 4 and 8. Then, we sat down to a wonderful meal. The pasta with duck ragout was amazing, and the Branzino was awesome. We definitely plan to return to this excellent restaurant.

Several friends and I had come to New York City for the day to sight see but primarily to go to the Met (my first live performance) that night. Another friend had recommended ViceVersa as a restaurant patronized by locals. The restaurant was surprisingly lower occupancy when we arrived. It was a Saturday evening and the seating was pretty tight, which I wondered about. We were there less than a half hour, however, before every space was filled. And it wasn't much later than that for me to find out why. The food was extraordinary! I tried to play it cool with the sauce that covered the meat I ordered, but after a while I simply used the bread that accompanied the meal to capture every juicy, delicious drop! The wait staff was courteous and even did all they could to assist me and my walker as we navigated out of the full restaurant. I most definitely want to return to this restaurant the next time I am in NYC!!

This was absolutely hands down our worst restaurant experience in NYC and we live in Manhattan. When we first arrived, the hostess was about to seat us for our 7 pm reservation, but the maitre d’ insisted we stand by the bar and wait 10 minutes to be seated, despite the fact that I am handicapped and walk with a cane. Some time shortly after we were seated, another couple was brought to the table next to us, and unfortunately the woman’s perfume was so thick, I could hardly breathe, let alone taste my food. We suffered through our first course, but when we couldn’t tolerate it anymore we told the waiter who suggested we change our table. The same maitre d’ who refused to seat us just rolled his eyes and told us it was ‘our fault’ like we were being ridiculous. My husband was none to happy with this response and they escalated the problem. We left without finishing our meal. Avoid this place like the plague. They really don’t care about their customers or your dining experience. Many much better places to choose from in NY. Their behavior and response was truly astonishing. Do not dine here.

One thing I truly hate about a restaurant is when the lighting is so poor that you need a flashlight to read the menu. Such is the case at ViceVersa. The restaurant is set up nicely, but I have no idea of why there are only small spotlights scattered throughout the restaurant. With a large party of 8 people you would hope to be able to see across the round table. Plus unnecessary music, was at times, too loud. The food was good, I had the swordfish and my friends sampled other menu items. Very good bottle of Italian wine was priced well.

We started off with perfectly made drinks at the bar which has happy hour until 8pm. The bartender was excellent and made a terrific negroni and cucumber martini! Their outside garden was a great place to hang out as well. The real problem was the food. It just was ok..A place like this should have a great chef and they'd pile em in. Food was for the most part bland and tasted reheated. The saving grace was their pasta which was really good and served very hot...why everything wasn't this good was the question of the night.

We saw VicaVersa recommend in Lonely Planet and again there recommendation was good. A smart casual location with a comfortable feel. The staff are professional and friendly and make you feel at home. The food is fresh and the pasta dishes very good. It's around a 15 minute walk to most shows on Broadway and they will take orders up to 11pm for the after show diner. We liked this place and rarely for us on a trip went twice.

Went pre-show and though we only had a short time they were very accommodating and still well paced and delicious food and drinks.

We always make a point of dining at ViceVersa when in NYC. The food is great and the service impeccable. The restaurant is near the theater district so the location is perfect for pre-theater dining. The staff asks if you have theater plans so they can time the service accordingly. Dinner at ViceVersa followed by a Broadway show makes for a perfect evening.

I would not usually write such a negative except for the extreme carelessness of this restaurant. Our burrata appetizers were ok. But for the main meal, my scallops were not prepared properly, smelt off and not fresh. My husband's veal was bitter and tasted as though it was cooked with fish. We each took a bite and stopped. I have to say for my partner not to finish his meal, let alone only tolerate a bite, is extremely unusual. The server and staff noted that we had not eaten at all. I noted we could not, and we were not enjoying it, and they asked us if we wanted to take the food home in a box! No further questions, no offer to substitute, nothing.

Attentive staff, efficient service, amazing pasta, excellent food, reasonable prices. Can't ask for more!

What a wonderful find...close to all the theaters but just enough off the beaten track to not be crazed had a delicious after theater meal..the food was very good, the price reasonable and the ambience perfect. The room is perfect...lovely but not too noisy..you can actually have a conversation with your dining companions! Will definitely keep in mind when I go to the theater.

A gem of a find close to our hotel. Good food and attentive service. The desserts were pretty good too!

We had a nice meal here before a show at Carnegie Hall. Really friendly staff set a nice tone. Interesting wine list with lots of quality Italian choices (of course) across a variety of price points. I had the gnocchi and my daughter had the cacio e pepe. Both were quite good, with house made fresh pasta (always a treat). The affogato is a great desert choice! I would dine here again.

I have eaten here on many pre-theater occasions. For is always good, service is always as expected. Sometimes it could be a little loud with tight tables but it's worth it.

Delicious! Obviously this chef knows what he is doing. Appetizers, pastas, entrees and salads were each prepared beautifully. I don't mind spending a bit of money when the food is this good!

I dined at this restaurant approximately 20 years ago several times. I recently went back and I have to say it is the same delicious food. If you are looking for traditional Italian like lasagna and manicotti you might be disappointed. The veal cutlet with the truffle mushrooms and light cream sauce was the best I ever had. My friend had the bronzino which was the whole fish sans head. Burratta with grilled figs was great. Some reviews say it’s expensive. Hello you are in New York City and I found these prices comparable to other restaurants.

Ate here last night with my husband and a friend. Realized when we got there that we had been there before. Our waiter could not have been more perfect. Friendly, very informative--pointed out the chef's specialties, gave us a little background--but not one of those waiters who's always interrupting your conversation to ask if everything is ok. All of our meals were terrific, and so were our appetizers. I had CASONCELLI ALLA BERGAMASCA, which the waiter said was a specialty of the chef, and it was fantastic. I would have it again in a minute. (I had a half portion, plus an order of broccoli rabe, which was also fantastic, and it was plenty.) My husband and our friend had STROZZAPRETI ALL`ANATRA E OLIVE DI GAETA, which they both liked very much. For appetizers, we had the Arancini, which was good, and the OLIVE ALL`ASCOLANA, which we loved. We don't live in the NY area anymore, but we are going to put Viceversa on our "must do" list for our next trip to New York.

We are here when we were looking for somewhere close to our hotel and Radio City. Can honestly say this is the best Italian we've had since being in Rome. Service was as impeccable as the stunning culinary delights, served with beautiful wines! We would recommend their signature dish and the prosecco!

Pleasant Italian close to the theaters. Contemporary warm interior, very good service. Food generally good but some courses can be uneven. A little on the pricey side, especially given the small tastings for appetizers.

We went after the theater rush had left, so it was quiet. The meals were nicely prepared and presented and the staff was fine.

Excelente restaurant in all aspects: food, service and environment. Quite restaurante, excellent service, delicious food. Hot cake chocolate is delicious! It is difficult to find a quite and charming restaurant like this in Manhattan. Strongly recommend mainly for couples or small 'quite' groups. Very very good service!

Amazing staff and excellent food! We enjoyed a wonderful client dinner at ViceVersa, appetizers, salad, main entrees all wonderful. You will not be disappointed choosing this establishment.

We enjoyed a spectacular meal here. We had the scallops with cauliflower and butternut squash and the Garganelli Verde Con Proscuitto. They were both divine. The service was adequate, but the wait staff was unfriendly. I mean I’m a southern girl. If I say thank you at least acknowledge it. I mean there were a couple of gnats in one of the glasses of wine, we didn’t make a big deal. They got another glass, but didn’t apologize. So if you want good food this is a definite. If you want a pleasant attitude, go elsewhere.

We were headed for NYC for a matinee the week before Christmas and found it difficult to make reservations for lunch. A favorite restaurant was fully booked and suggested Vice Versa on 51st St near our theatre. We were more than pleased. The lunch menu for price fixed at a reasonable $26. which included an appetizer and an entree. Perfect for lunch. The servers were very attentive and we were severed quickly with plenty of time to make our broadway show. The presentation was excellent and the food delicious. The restaurant was quiet enough for good table conversation and had a cozy atmosphere.

Was here for dinner for four. Our table (reserved) was available promptly and seated quickly. We ordered the some appetizers including the Arancini, which was perhaps the best I have ever tasted, including those eaten in Italy. All four of us ordered cocktails, which were delicious. Our dinners were pasta, including an off the menu dish of spaghetti bolognese. We loved the entrees, cooked perfectly, large portions, delicious all. We had a french pinot noir with dinner, also very good. Overall we very much enjoyed the meal, and will return one day. I would give the visit five stars, however settled for four, as the service was spotty. Our water glasses were attended to promptly, but our waiter was largely absent. The volume was unusually loud as well, the four of us had a small table, but we found ourselves having to raise our voices to be heard. Not unusual today, but annoying when you are out with friends.

Wonderful Italian eatery on the west side. Great food!! Modern decor, smart and attentive wait staff and reasonable yet large wine list makes this a go to restaurant in the mid town area. Can highly recommend the veal ravioli to start, the romaine and apple salad with bacon. For main course the cottoletto de veal in truffle sauce was exquisite!! All in all a wonderful evening in a restaurant I will be coming back to Can't wait!!

Another wonderful dinner! One of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. The decor is tasteful, the menu excellent and the wines super! Our waiter was very helpful in recommending entrees. My husband chose a veal dish that melted in your mouth and my oxtail ragu with pasta was to die for. The assistant wait staff never let our glassed remain empty. Alas, we had no room for desserts, but they sounded delicious. We certainly will chose this excellent restaurant on our next trip to New York.

On Father's Day, we were visiting NYC, and our son took us to Viceversa dinner. He had ordered a special Pasta Primavera for me and had Lasoncelli ala Bergamasca. Excellent. Great location, atmosphere, service, and friendly

My wife and I visited VV for a pre theatre following a recommendation in our Lonely Planet guide book to NYC. Lonely planet is normally pretty solid so we were looking forward to our first proper meal together in this awesome city. Unfortunately the food, ambience and ultimately the staff are no where near good enough for the price. Much of what we ate, despite being billed otherwise was clearly frozen or at the very least not fresh. From bought in Octopus for a starter to some of the worst Halibut as a special we’ve ever had, it really was poor. Hailing from Scotland my wife and I are used to excellent produce and if you have ever had Halibut you will know how fantastic it is when fresh and cooked properly. The stuff at VV was clearly frozen and tasteless and at nearly $40 for the plate was just a joke. To add to this the restaurant clearly needs some refurbishment as it is tired and the staff or manager insisted on playing loud inappropriate Euro house type music including Kylie Minogue “can’t get you out of my head” and what I can only describe as what sounded like Scooter. The place is a shambles and we couldn’t wait to get out of there but obviously only after they had us $300 lighter. Don’t bother with this place and head to nearby Hells Kitchen for some more reasonably priced authentic NYC grub.
Pre theater dinner with friends
3 steps down from the sidewalk. Tiny outdoor lounge area out front. Great bar area. Beautiful dining room. Little outdoor eating patio/garden back of dining room. Service was great. Food was delicious and beautiful. Yummy bread/butter tray. We shared small squid ink spaghetti with crab in a mild tomato sauce appetizer (sorry no photo) We all loved. 2 of us had scallops 1 had pasta with tiny lamb meatballs. We finished every morsel. No time for dessert (darn)!!! Fantastic choice. I highly recommend.
