Skip the appetizers, entrees are a better value

By Tim M |

We started w/ the shrimp satay and the papaya salad. Both were good, but when you consider cost/serving size, nothing was so spectacular that I'd write home about it. We ordered the shrimp curry entree and found this to be tasteful and very generous w/ the shrimp. There were 3x more shrimp vs the satay for $2. We also got the long pepper chicken and found it to be very light & fresh (vs drowning in oil) w/ the perfect amount of spice/heat. The service is friendly and the place is always packed whenever we walk by it. The decor is simple & cute w/ the Birch tree dividers. There were only a few tables available when we left (Tuesday evening). I'd definitely go back, or would grab something to go...

Mediocre Meal

By Stuart R |

During previous visits to NYC in the last few years my wife and I had eaten in this restaurant a couple of times. Our meals were not memorable enough for us to recall why we ate there more than once. Yesterday I did a takeaway for my wife, myself and one of our adult daughters and wish to record our uniform disappointment while it is fresh in my mind. The takeaway included Long Hot Pepper Beef, Sauteed Veggies and Vietnam Curry Fish Fillet. With the exception of the beef and a little zing from chilli, the first two dishes looked and tasted too similar. That problem was exacerbated as the taste was very dull. And the Vietnaam Curry was curry in name only. The dishes were ample in size, but having more of mediocre food was not a selling point from our perspective. And given the mediocrity of the food, the size of the portions also did not justify what we all thought were high prices.

Fantastic flavor

By CallieSLC |

We had a pleasant dinner outside on the patio. Not too crowded. Great service and very flavorful food. The chicken satay was tasty as was the ginger chicken. Crisp vegetables with tender chicken. I would recommend for any occasion.

Quick service

By Mayoite658 |

So we got here fairly late one evening and got a table really quick - when we have come here early the waits are long. The service was super quick, faster than a fast food restaurant! The food was a mixed bag. Some of the dishes we ordered were really good but some were average at best. Hence the rating of average.

good quality food and good service

By bb416 |

to be fair, I've only had lunch here, a couple of times. but I judge by spring rolls a lot, and theirs are good.

Very tasty Vietnamese food with good service

By Rachel B |

They had a very broad range of traditional Vietnamese food and all of the dishes we tried were very tasty. The portion sizes are huge - we split a starter and then had two mains and we didn't come close to finishing the food (even though we had just been out for a run!) The service was ok - very polite and helpful, but not always the easiest to get their attention.

excellent meal and service

By stevensusan |

went to restaurant on short notice without reservation. staff was helpful with menu selection and food was excellent with large portions considering modest price. most entrees were around $15

Nice and quick

By Benjamin |

Great place for a quick meal, in house or takeout. Serving was lightning fast, with a smile. Good taste and lots of dishes on the menu!

Try the Canh Chua or Bouillabaisse

By ChrisTravellerUS |

Great neighborhood restaurant with good prices and quick service. Canh Chua or Bouillabaisse are must tried!

Fantastic flavors!

By Erika S |

We were looking for Vietnamese within walking from the Met. Our meal was delicious! We had pho, curry and coconut soup, papaya salad and bahn mi sandwich- everything was very fresh with wonderful flavor combinations.

Authentic Vietnamese Food

By billcarroll289 |

My friend who lives in this neighborhood has been raving about this restaurant and it fulfilled my expectations. We have had Pho in Vietnam and this was the real thing, thinly sliced steak cooked in the hot broth, noodles, bean sprouts, lemon and a wonderful spicy sauce on the side. The spices are authentic, portions generous and price very reasonable. We also had ginger beef with vegetables with your choice of type of rice. Again this dish was excellent. The service was great and there is also outdoor seating.

Great Restaurant

By NYCSE |

Vietnaam is the best of both worlds inexpensive and delicious. They do a tremendous job on preparation and delivering a high quality product. In a city of thousands of other great restaurants, I would rank this very high. The beef and shrimp were great and recommend either. Will definitely be returning soon. The bill for 2 people was $ 33 so you can get generous portions at a low price. The wait staff was very attentive. A high recommend.

Tasty food.

By Serj S |

Had to wait long time for a table. Around 30 minutes, but we were party of 6 and it was weekend so that is perhaps understandable. Food is nice and it came out quick. Calamari ( not very Vietnamese, but hey...) was just terrible, it was over-fried and chewy so its best to avoid it. The rest was great. Pork with pickle was delicious. And spring rolls were very good. Atmosphere is lively and vibrant.

Great place to eat at upper east side

By J P |

I had the chicken dumplings as appetizer and the long hot pepper chicken for dinner. Both were well prepared and tasty. The restaurant is clean, they have outdoor seating available and the service is above average.

great choice for vietnamese cuisine

By ELLlady |

Wonderful food, service, ambience, and price. Good demographics with people of all ages from diverse backgrounds.

Highly recommended

By Edith G |

Had dinner in this very lively restaurant. A varied Menu of Vietnamese fare. Friendly and attentive service, mid-range prices. Excellent food. Willing to accommodate special requests. Full house indicative of its popularity. Glad to recommend and shall return.

Can service be too fast?

By Keblehistorian |

Good food (esp spicy ribs) though not sensational because relying too much on volume rather than subtle flavours and presentation! Main reservation: food is too rushed. Is it right that mains arrives before entree is finished? I know Americans expect fast service, but one should not be rushed. Staff were very efficient, but the odd smile would not go amiss!

Tasty Vietnamese!

By native-travels |

The prices were normal for the neighborhood, so kind of steep but fairish. The drinks rocked and the food was delicious. The restaurant was pretty full but the waitress took great care of us and we did not wait too long for the meal. It was a great experience overall and if I lived in the neighborhood I would eat there often.

Delicious and fresh

By Historygirl76 |

Delicious food with fresh vegetables. Have been here twice in the past year and consistent quality. Had the shrimp pho both times, along with several appetizers like spring rolls. All food was very good and fresh. Lots of menu options. Service is prompt and polite, albeit not warm and fuzzy. Indoor and outdoor seating. Atmosphere is pretty nice, although not elaborate. Friends of mine who live on the UES get take-out from here regularly and apparently the food is always good. I'm not familiar with Vietnamese food, so cannot rate authenticity. Absolutely plan to eat here any time I'm on the UES.

It hit the spot

By Adrian C |

Had a great time the food was great the service was great and the atmosphere had a great Buzz would definitely recommend it and would go back again.

GREAT LOCAL PLACE

By eugene s |

We go here regularly and their ribs and pork chops are the best. Their other food is just as good and service is fast attentive. Pricing is very good.

Great pho plus they deliver,

By annbury |

We have eaten at this place many times. We have also ordered for delivery. Apart from the fact that they don;t have an advertised duck, the food is great. My wife loves pho and has it all the time.

To Vietnaam For Dinner

By Keke L |

I ordered the Eggplant with Sticky Rice, Taro and Peanut Dumplings and an Oolong Tea. The Eggplant is cooked nicely. It is soft and does not require hard chewing like some Eggplant dishes. The Eggplant is unseasoned, so it is the sauce that makes this meal come alive. The sauce taste like sweet vinegar, then the faintest hint of heat comes up behind the sweetness and swipes the tip of your tongue. I am sure you will miss it the first bite. The restaurant is spacious and luckily for me it's a cold Monday evening in New York, I can sit and enjoy, the quiet. The chatter increases, I look around to find more tables filled. It was nice while it lasted. A bussling restaurant is always a good sign and Vietnaam's got a good thing going on. The Taro Dumplings are good too.

Big Banh Mi

By David L |

We ordered 4 Vietnamese hoagies (banh mi), an order of vermicelli noodles (bun), and fried spring rolls. I never order fish at Vietnamese restaurants, but my buddy insisted I try the filet banh mi. It was a hit. The sandwich is a bit larger than your typical French baguette roll (which I've only seen in NY). The rolls were made with rice paper (a major plus), and the grilled chicken in the bun was tender, unlike some other places I've tried. Very busy on a Saturday night (around 6pm), so go early or take out.

A little of everything

By barbara1954_13 |

We had a great time. This place seems to have it all. Great for eating family style. You get to try many Asian foods

Hidden Vietnam

By Uhlen T |

I really enjoyed the food hear and my girlfriend would also agree. We have been living here in the UES for sox years now but this is the 1st time that we dine here and absolutey no regrets. I would recommend all the food the we ordered, grilled beef satay, nem, moon dumpling for appetizers and lemongrass grilled pork chops for entree. All of them are so tasty and delicious and one thing that i like here is that it comes with different sauce unlike the other asian restaurants that we have tried. So come and try this hidden Vietnamese gem in the UES. Delish!

Dietary restrictions

By 🛶🏕🍷🍸🍹 |

My wife is soy free and gluten free. The staff where very accommodating to her and made sure that everything was fine for her. The food and service are both very good here.

Great Pho

By martianwalrus |

I was in need of a quick lunch and one of my clients recommended this spot for a meal. Not only was the food good, but the service was quick and unobtrusive. The price was a little high for my taste (it is soup, after all) but they have rent to pay, so I can't complain. I also got the iced Thai coffee, probably not the smartest choice on such a cold day, but I enjoyed it all the same.

Yum yum yum

By europhile105 |

This is our go to when we’re on the UES. Amazing summer rolls, chicken banh mi and pho. Love the meatball pho. Great for a quick inexpensive bite. The sister takeout place Saiguette is on Columbus and 106. Also great.

Good but I expected more

By DayDrem46 |

Soups were good, sandwiches ok and the basil chicken was very good. We shared the plates and everyone loved the soup, so make sure to order one! Service was fast.

Best in Manhattan

By DanHNYC |

We went on Saturday night with some friends and had a dinner that blew us away. They don't take reservations, but was given a 20 minute estimate at 7:00pm and we were seated exactly 20 minutes later. The service was excellent, waiting just the right amount of time for each event and we did not feel rushed. The waiter made some great recommendations and we tried those as well as some familiar dishes. The portions were large, flavorful and elegantly presented. Can't wait to return.

Nice selection

By Benjamin |

We were there with family. The selection is really huge. The food was really good and the staff quick and friendly. In my opinion its not typical vietnam food.

Great Food and pleasant service

By DannyMor |

Came there for a very late lunch. The food was great and the dishes generous. Prices are reasonable for the size of the dishes. Definitely a good bang for the buck! Service was pleasant albeit a bit slow considering the place was almost empty. The decor and atmosphere are nothing to right home about. All in all, worth coming back to.

Great food!

By Tanya7171 |

Tasty food, big portions, good service, average prices i.e. not cheap but not terrible. One of the few places I ate at twice during my visit to New York!

Dedelicious oriental food

By Vladimir P |

Come here for lunch or dinner and enjoy this tasty food with wine or beer prepared with no delay. In the evenings place is crowed so be ahead of your neighbours. Not much of the decor but with good service and ambiance!

Amazing food makes up for the staff

By Lauren D |

Recently came here for a late night dinner, I had always wanted to try Vietnamese food. The food was AMAZING. The two of us split 1 order of dumplings and two entrees and everything just kept getting better. I would 100% recommend this to anyone, whether you love Vietnamese or have never tried it! Our waiters were not very polite, and rarely came to check on us (took awhile to get our check),but it was over shadowed by the delicious food.

Continues great

By robcurtross |

I had a late lunch at one of my favorite Asian restaurants on the Upper East Side today. Service was fast efficient and very friendly, and cleanliness is very good. The calamari was perfectly prepared with a tasty coating and three separate sauces, quite different and all delicious. The mixed vegetables with sticky rice were cooked to perfection.

Good Solid Food and Service

By steveredler |

Very Crowded on a Saturday Afternoon in February. They don't take reservations but only had to wait 15 minutes. The appetizers/starters were outstanding. The Chicken Satay was the best if ever had; flavored just right. The dumplings, spinach and vegetable, were also great. I had the salmon ginger with Asparagus and broccoli. The vegetables were cooked just right. The salmon was just ok. Service was good.

Sweet

By Comac39 |

Came here with a group and ordered four or five different plates to try to get a variety of flavors. While they were quite good, all dishes tasted very similar despite being plates with completely different sauces. It seems as if, to cater to the American palate, they just make sure everything is extra sweet. We would have preferred a little more variety.

Big portions of good food.

By spzusman |

It is a nice restaurant, with indoors and outdoors sitting. Plenty of room. they serve a large variety of Vietnaam and adjacent countrys' dishes. The portions are generaly quite big, half of them enough for 2 people or for a person with very big apetite,

Best Vietnamese on the far(ther) UES

By Douglas T |

On the upper upper east side, this is a hidden gem. I have not had a bad meal. Service is nothing special, not the ambiance, but the food is really good. We especially like to order and pick up so it is fresh. Great vegetarian options, and not expensive at all. Best Vietnamese we have found withing striking distance of our apartment.

Vietnaam - Two A's

By bonel_pogi |

Yes, this Vietnamese restaurant deserves two A's. My friend treated us for lunch, she ordered Pho Nam Yang noodles soup, chicken salad with Taro chips, Grilled chicken tenderloin, calamari and Pork Belly fried rice. Happy tummy - we ate it all!!! Reasonably price. Highly recommended.

Changing my previous review

By RiBa_100 |

I visited this place in May 2016 and placed a review that the food was good and the service was messy. I went back in July and had a very bad impression about the food, besides I found a piece of plastic in my dish which seems to be a piece of a container. It was lucky that I found it instead of one of my small grandchildren that could have swallowed it. The service is still a mess. The manager was not on duty on lunch time on a sunny Saturday.

Love It

By RRaluca |

I only seeked out Vietnamese food after visiting Vietnam and didn't have high hopes I would find something close to the amazing food there - so much of their flavor is driven by the freshness and full flavor of locally grown ingredients. However, Vietnaam does not disappoint. I don't think they can fully replicate all dishes so I focus on a handful of favorites every time I go (pork belly and pork shoulder esp ones w lemongrass are among them). I also love their Thai iced tea. Prices are really good value also. Definitely recommend

Better take out than eat in!

By Victoria T |

Have used the take out delivery many times and always been happy with the food. Decided to visit restaurant for a change, but it is very noisy and busy. Much prefer home delivery and the food seems to be better too.

Best noodles ever!

By Oyesola |

We went for a family dinner here yesterday evening. It was the best noodles I have ever had. I don't usually like the noodles at most Chinese restaurants but I loved this so much, I had a second and third helping. We had the beef noodles, shrimp noodles, fried rice, chicken and broccoli and pork chops. For starters we had the fried squid and spring rolls. Simply delicious!

Love The Food

By Grace C |

Food is always really good and always fresh. Pho soup I loved, Bo Luc Lac is to try and you will love it. From the appetizer to the main course no regrets. We visit or order 4 to 5 times a week.

Very popular with locals, a good sign

By oldmayor |

We had lunch here on a Monday and almost everyone was of Asian decent. Everyone was clearly enjoying their food, a good sign. I had a pounded chicken thigh in a lemongrass sauce - delicious. My husband had the traditional Banh Mi sandwich with duck. Very friendly and attentive staff.

Superb

By martyperinton |

My wife and I ate here twice in 1 week. Everything we experienced was excellent. On our first visit my wife had a shrimp dinner and I had a beef curry. On our second visit, she had a whole fried sea bass and I had the beef teriyaki. Both times, our meals could not have been better. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was pleasant with sufficient space between tables. Prices are very reasonable. When we left (on a Saturday evening), there was a significant number of people waiting for a table. Because of the high quality of the food, this restaurant has obviously become very popular with those living in the upper east side.

Great food

By 782sineadk |

the food is really good here, especially the fried rice dishes. the prices were pretty good and the service is fine not great

Really nice Vietnamese food

By rb_ldn |

This place was packed on a Sunday evening. The food is delicious and well priced. The noodles are particularly good as is the Pho.

Decent Vietnamese food

By red259 |

Went here for lunch and had the beef Pho and some iced coffee. The meal was decent and having returned from vietnam recently I can say that it is certainly authentic at least in terms of the pho and people who complain about it probably don't like authentic pho to begin with. Its on par with some of my lunches in Vietnam. The iced coffee was good, not as good as you can get in hanoi cafes but its close enough to satisfy my craving. I was hoping they would have bun cha but did not see on the menu. I will go back again and try some of the other options.

Best String Beans

By panamama |

The nim chow (summer rolls) were excellent but my favorite were the string beans. Fantastic. We also go the whole crispy fish and the bok choy. THe bok choy didn't have a lot of flavor, but after we polished off the string beans, we moved the bok choy to the string bean plate to soak up the rest of the string bean flavor and it was better. Very quick service.

just amazing

By Abigail H |

Best restaurant in NYC! every meal is just amazing, especially the Bun Xao. I have never loved food so much!

You can't beat Vietnaam. When will we learn?

By Voice of Experience |

Delicious dumplings--especially the garlic chive shrimp steamed moon dumplings. The Show Me noodle is an unbelievable combination of texture and flavor. I can vouch for the beef, chicken, veggie, and shrimp--they're all sensational. The banh mi are definitely the best in the neighborhood, and I'd put Vietnaam's in a tier maybe just below Banh Mi Zon or Num Pang citywide. The pork belly is amazing, as is the duck. The classic is also delicious. They all have fresh veggies and decent bread. The bun could be a little squishier. These guys can be insanely fast. I've clocked them under 20 minutes more than once. Also, everything I've ordered here has been great.

Neighborhood Favorite

By Rebecca I |

One of my favorite places on the UES, great for dinner with family, friends, date night or takeout. Everything on the menu is sure to make your taste buds sing and dance. My in-laws come into the city from Long Island just to eat at Vietnaam with us.

Great Asian alternative to Thai Food

By OrganicForever |

Multiple visits later for takeout and eat-in, great value, great taste and authentic food with real taste.

Best Meal on our NYC Weekend

By SpiritJacket52 |

My husband, mother, and I met some friends her for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Our friends live in the neighborhood and swore this as their very favorite restaurant. It certainly lived up to their hype. Some dishes were familiar, others totally new, but all were phenomenal! We split everything and left gushing over the incredible meal and everyone claiming a different favorite. We had the nem, calamari, papaya salad with flank stank, lemongrass pork shoulder bahn mi, red curry shrimp over sticky and white rice, and a chicken rice noodle dish. I recommend it all, but especially the papaya salad with flank steak since it was something I would not have ordered on my own but would absolutely order again. The service was fast and friendly. Sitting outside on a warm day, our water glasses were never empty, which was impressive. The bill was surprisingly cheap to feed 5 people with drinks. Definitely check this place out! I will be going there again when I'm back in the city.

A Delicious Meal

By Harvey M |

The service here was terrible. It was indifferent and disorganized. The decor is very simple and is definitely not a draw to the restaurant (see my photo below). My appetizer was the Steamed Moon Dumplings ($7.50), with my choice of filling, which was shrimp (6 dumplings to an order). The dumplings came with a dipping sauce and were very tasty (see my photo). For my main course I had Beef Bun Xao ($12), a noodle dish that I again found to be delicious.

Authentic Vietmamese and pretty restaurant!

By Judy S |

Lots of choices on the menu - reasonable prices and the restaurant is actually a good size for NYC! Bun and the pho were both good ! They have outside seating as well. Would recommend....

Yummy food

By JQC |

Had the pho and spring rolls. They were great! Phoned in our order on two occasions and when it was delivered the quantities were wrong, but it was still yummy!!

Generous servings; very good quality

By robcurtross |

We had dinner at Vietnaam Restaurant on Second Avenue after enjoying a movie nearby. The place was very busy at 6:15 on a Friday evening, clearly a neighborhood favorite. My companion's chicken satay was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and her veggie nem was cooked only slightly, although the covering was delightfully crisp and without any oiliness. My Vietnamese Seafood Bouillabaise was extremely generous, with a delightful mixture of crab, mussel, sole, shrimp, glass noodles, string beans, bamboo shoots and tofu, all in a red curry and coconut milk sauce. Served very hot, both in temperature and seasoning, although the coconut milk moderated everything. We had a Chinese and a Japanese beer, served very cold and delicious with the food -- they were already sold out of Vietnamese beer. Service was fast, very friendly, and very accommodating. Cleanliness was very good including the men's room. We were both delighted and will certainly come back.

Best in the hood.

By Mike P |

After their re-opening the place got much better. It's now often crowded, the food and service quite good.

Local delicious

By Bea-Manhattan |

Our all time "go to place"! We visit here regularly and love love love it! The food is always consistently good! It is a light fusion between thai, chinese and seafood. Tried quite a bit of the menu and they never disappoint. Everything is delicious - our favorites are the summer rolls, the spinach dumplings, the satai, then the soups are great either the pho or the coconut curry base soup is great as well! As for main course can't pick they are all great. If you like fish try their whole fish deep fried it is finger licking yummy. Highly recommend this place!

Take a PediCab

By SuThom |

To this restaurant. We were craving Vietnamese and decided to give a young Russian pedicab driver a chance to get a good fair. He rode use over 35 blocks to this upper east side restaurant for lunch in 100 degree weather. We were not disappointed with the food even though they did not make my husband's favorite "happy pancake". We started with shrimp summer rolls and added papaya and shrimp salad and hot and sour soup. Give it a try when in the area.

Good food, reasonable price and messy service

By RiBa_100 |

The food is very good, especially the Southeast Asian dishes for a very reasonable price. However, the service is very messy especially when you are in a large group, the dishes are not served at the same time, so by the time the last one is served the first one served is about to finish eating. I hate that when you are in a group when the kids are not the first ones to be served.

Really good food!

By Edith G |

Had dinner here with friends. Nice atmosphere, good service, reasonable prices, interesting menu. We had the steamed fish. Was very tasty with nice assortment of veggies and sauce. Would recommend and shall return. Enjoy a pot of tea with your meal!

Don't like it

By tanjuska22 |

I have ordered duck fried rice, 13$. Small pieces of duck was not fresh at all. Very dry meat. It looked like unfrozen.

Good Food

By 4jb |

Had lunch here with family. Ordered crispy fish (whole sea bass) with sweet and sour sauce (very good), fresh spring roll (good), bahn mi (pork belly in a French baguette with pickled carrots etc.), flame grilled beef (very good and tender), and grilled lemongrass pork chops (good). All main dishes already came with either brown or white rice. They had a variety of Vietnamese dishes which we found pretty good compared to the usual Vietnamese restaurants we go to in the greater Toronto area. Service was good.

Really tasty!

By nytreez |

Never been to Vietnam so cannot comment on authenticity, whatever that counts for these days. However, I can recommend the Pho which was spectacular, the ribs were great, the Bahn Mi was delicious and the roast pork shoulder was a winner. Now sitting here waiting on my next taste and perhaps in a few years we mght have worked our way through the menu. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Best pho in the town

By inelua |

We come to this place very often. Mostly for their amazing pho, delicious Vietnamese sandwiches and best Vietnamese coffee. Very convenient location. Highly recommend

Very Average

By James S |

Good corner location, with big windows onto the street. We were in the mood for a good pho and popped in here. We found the food average at best. The pho was okay, not the best, but acceptable. The spring rolls we had were over fried and actually crunchy - not good. Service was okay, not overly friendly but efficient.

Wonderful Food Service is OK

By europhile105 |

This is one of our go-tos whenever we come to NYC for the day. The delicious summer rolls, fantastic soups, and wonderful Banh Mi sandwiches all make for a great meal at a dirt cheap price. My only complaint is that I ordered the fish pho and cannot eat squid. I requested extra shrimp instead, and was told that they could only put one puny shrimp in the soup. This prevented me from giving the place the full five star treatment. Nevertheless, good food, great prices, wonderful neighborhood. What's so bad?

Authentic Vietnamese food without the long flight

By duffman2014 |

Impressed with the food and service at this affordable, fun restaurant. I was skeptical at first, but as the meal progressed, they won me over. I cannot handle spicy foods and I was very afraid to come out of my comfort-zone I've built up at various Chinese and Thai restaurants. Happy to report that I was navigated nicely through the menu. Enjoyed rice noodle dish with shrimp (good sized). Appetizers included flavorful summer rolls and crispy dumplings.

Consistent

By painfree1 |

Third experience at Vietnaam. This tie it was take out. Food was well packaged and prepared. Good portion size and very nice tastes. Enjoyed a tasty vegetable lemongrass dish, as well as the unusual roasted eggplant dish, that I would recommend to any eggplant lover. The Bun is also outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

Always a good bet!

By patriciaanntherese |

This restaurant is in my neighborhood and when it first opened, I tried it alone. I loved it! Since then, I have taken lots of visitors with all different palates here and have never been disappointed! Whether they had never tasted Vietnamese cuisine or whether they had travelled the world, tasting foods from different cultures, they enjoyed " Vietnaam". I think there is plenty of variety on the menu to please all! The food is very tasty and the service is fast whether dining in or ordering out! This reastaurt has always been a good bet for me!

Family thankyou

By Laurie88 |

We always enjoy coming to Vietnaam when we visit family in NYC. We’ve learnt not to over order and judged it just right this time. Portions are generous so we shared a ginger duck and Chicken Curry Spices between 3 of us.

So good!

By Paul R |

We just found this place and is now a new favorite! The decor is ok, the outdoor seating is nice, the servers are great but it's all about the food. Huge, tasty portions that brought us back to a recent trip to Vietnam. Everything was excellent but I highly recommend the sautéed string beans which were spectacular. That plus the flank steak made for stellar meal.

Good food, nice atmosphere, good prices

By B_in_Penfield |

Walked here after a day at the MET. Beautiful restaurant. On the smaller side with windows/doors that open to the sidewalk (some outdoor tables available). The service was OK, we needed to get the server's attention several times even for just refills on water. Food was tasty, generous portions and reasonable prices. We had the papaya salad. The shredded green papaya was similar to bean sprouts in looks. Had a nice light, crispy texture and was very good. Chicken added nice dimension to the salad. We also had a small Laksa soup with chicken. This was a very hearty soup, huge bowl for a small and was a meal onto itself. It was filled with noodles, lots of chicken, and delicious flavor with just a hint of a kick at the end. We also had the Bun Xao chicken. The peanuts and nuoc chain sauce are served on the side. It is a generous dish loaded with noodles, veggies and chicken. Nice flavor, "safe" dish for those uncertain about what to order And we had the beef curry spice. Lots of well seasoned beef, not as spicy as we thought it would be. The restaurant got quite busy with people waiting. Restrooms are in the basement, and were clean.

An Asian Treat On The East Side

By markmr73 |

Outstanding in all ways. Great food. A large menu choice. Fine, attentive service. Fair prices for the neighborhood. Try the Pho soup with shrimp dumplings. One problem is that they get busy so be early or be prepares to wait a while.

The Best Vietnamese Food! We Go Often! VIETNAAM Upper East Side NYC

By Tag1990 |

At the suggestion of a colleague, I went to this Upper East Side restaurant at 88th and 2nd. The food is simply wonderful! I've had the Pho Bok Choi with both pork and chicken. My wife has had the Green Papaya Salad and the Hot Long Pepper Vegetables. The dishes are attractively prepared with wonderful taste! Not overpowered with sauces or spices... VIETNAAM has reasonable prices and always has people dining there which speaks to the quality of this restaurant,...

Can't miss

By DannyMor |

We come here very often and it is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is good and has been maintaining high quality since they opened a few years back Whatever you order, you can't miss

Fi, Fy and Good Pho

By SanFranciscoGuy634 |

We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed good beef pho and Vietnamese chicken curry. As good as at a street stall at dawn in Hanoi when you are cold from walking and need rejuvenation? Well, no. The corner of 88th and 2nd is not Hanoi. But, those caveats notwithstanding, we really enjoyed our lunch at Vietnaam. The menu is quite extensive. Lots of dishes to try in the future. The lunch crowd looked happy, as did we. The staff were welcoming. We will come again.

I would fly from California to New York for their Basil chicken!

By DG_Sokyrka |

OMG....This place is AMAZING!!!! We were in NY in March and found this restaurant. we walked in and the line waiting for a table was out the door, but we only had to wait 10 min or so. Great service, nice staff! I tried the Basil chicken and thought I'd died and gone to heaven! The flavor is amazing, the spices and oh so tender chicken is a symphony to your tastebuds. my wife LOVES PHO, it was awesome! We had to go again before we went home and it was still perfect! Very good staff. My wife left her purse with wallet and credit cards on accident, we didn't discover it the next day, we went to the restaurant and they had it behind the counter and gave it to us, all intact nothing missing!!! very honest people. Thank you so much to the staff at Vietnaam restaurant.

Love it

Pho. If you know what it is, you know what I mean. A cheap and amazing noodle soup. Don't let the price deceive you, the ambiance is great and good for a date, business, or even families. My wife and I love the summer rolls and Pho. The dumplings are good (no regrets) but not the best we've ever had. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. The wait time is often minimal.

Excellent menu options

I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese food however, there is so much variety at this restaurant where do I begin! I have been here more times than I can count and the Bonxio noodles with shrimp keeps me coming back. I usually always order an appetizer plate of vegetable dumplings for the table. Beware of the typical New York crowd inside though because this place it pretty popular amongst the locals and tourists! However, they will have you seated fairly quickly.

Very Good

Went there for lunch with the wife and two of her friends on Presidents Day. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Who can ask for anything more. Service was good also.

Quick eats

The restaurant is busier for dinner service than for lunch, but the food is good, the price is right, and it's conveniently located. A good stop.

This place is incredible for dining or to go. They are fast in preparation. The menu has a large variety. Something to pick for all people. I guarantee anything you order will be delicious.

Very authentic and cozy place upper east side. Dishes are well made with excellent chillies. And citrus and spices. Essential to the food. Try the fish or shrimp dishes for really out there dishes. Almost as good as being in country but just a few blocks from home. They even have authentic viet. Coffee. Deserts are great too.

Dependably good and reasonably priced

Recently went for third time in about eight to this place, which friends who live nearby frequent. Food and service have been consistently good at modest prices for the neighborhood. Not a place for a special dinner, but more modest expectations likely to be met.

one of my favorites on UES

great Vietnamese food but currently only takeout food or door dash is running since the pandemic. Have been several times since Dec. 2021 and it is always consistently great. If you pick up your food they give a small discount.

One of the best in Manhattan

The service was quick...portions are big...and taste is memorable! You will have to wait at the line on peak hours. Tables can sit big group and couple.

Tasty food, good value

Came here for lunch with my daughter. A low-key place, service was fast and efficient, but not overly friendly. The food was very good. My daughter had a shrimp laksa soup, I had banh hoi (angel hair) with grilled chicken. Prices are reasonable at $13-15 per entree. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood.
