NYC Italian restaurant

By nycallpro |

A warm comfortable atmosphere, fine authentic food and an attentive, friendly waitstaff makes Villa Mosconi one of our favorite restaurants. Just a block from the center of Greenwich Village area and a short walk from Washington Square, this has become the go to for a casual dinner or a special family gathering.

wonderful!

By zippylovestravel |

Had a wonderful yummy meal after a funeral. Food was out of this world and staff could not have been more awesome considering our reason for being there. If I were in the village again, this would be on my list for a wonderful meal again. Thank You Villa Mosconi for making my family, especially my grandmother, so comfortable.

Nice family run Italian restaurant

By Riza Okcu |

Decent food, reasonable prices, family atmosphere, good service. They preserve the Italian tradition with a home-like atmosphere. What was best was the espresso I had in the end.

A Taste of Italy in NYC

By Steven L |

Nice ambience: quiet restaurant decorated with nice Italian paintings in the rear, bar area in the front. I skipped an appetizer. The entree, accompanied by a Peroni beer, was a twisted pasta with brown wild boar meat sauce. It was excellent, as was the service. For desert I had cannoli, filled end to end, and cappuccino. Definitely a place to return to

Carmela’s 95th Birthday

By Patrick A |

My Aunt Carmela loves Villa Mosconi. After all she’s lived in the neighborhood for all of her 95 years on the planet. While there are plenty of great places to eat in the West Village, for authentic Italian cuisine Mosconi is at the top of the list. From the homemade pasta to the lamb shank you won’t be disappointed. This family business, here since 1976 never disappoints. We were a party of 14 with guests arriving at different times and our dinner went seemlessly. Appetizers were ordered family style, make sure you get the artichokes. We had baked clams and calamari as well both were excellent. As for the entrees I know at least three of us ordered “off menu”items and they never missed a beat. I wanted to have the fresh fettuccine but didn’t want Alfredo. They made me a porcini mushroom and fresh fettuccine dish that was fabulous. Another guest wanted spaghetti puttanesca no problem and I was told it was delicious. We had a variety of dishes at the table and even a glutton free dish for a cousin whom suffers with that issue, truly impressive. Lamb, veal and the Chicken Mosconi was ordered and with vegetables on the side including broccoli rabe everyone was well satisfied. Aunt Carmela and her friend Nora both had the Chicken Mosconi it’s a favorite, I tried it and I will say it’s excellent. Chicken with peppers, artichoke, onions, and more in a brown sauce. I’d be remiss if I didn’t also compliment the staff, Carl is a true professional and always a pleasant presence at dinners here. Due to the size of our party we had multiple staff take care of us. The atmosphere at Mosconi is always so welcoming it’s obvious your pleasure is their mission.

Italy is far away...

By Roberto DB |

I'm italian. In Italy Villa Mosconi would be considered a very bad Trattoria (a simple restaurant). The food was really bad. The decor of the restaurant is old, the price very high for the quality of the food. The icing on the cake, was the addition of 18.5% tip on the bill, for a table of 3. They have forgotten how to cook a good italian meal. They have adopted some bad American habits. Never again.

Felt like we were eating at Nona's

By Michelle V |

Our friends made mid-afternoon reservations at this quaint spot in Little Italy. I'm glad they knew where it was, because it's tucked away nicely. We were greeted with warm hospitality and they immediately made us feel like family. The atmosphere is quintessential Italian. We were there about 2 hours enjoying our late lunch / early dinner. Everything everyone tried was excellent and tasty. Homemade pastas and sauces. Crusty Italian bread. Save room for dessert! We will definitely be returning and telling all our friends.

Old World Charm and Service

By Janet K |

If you are looking for a quiet restaurant with comfortable seating, elegant but cozy atmosphere, the best service from the staff and good Italian food, this is the restaurant for you. I feel like royalty when I dine at Mosconi. I have had parties and entertained guests here and I have never been disappointed. This is a family business and a Greenwich Village gem.

Great Experience!

By Marie F |

We used the Seated app to find a restaurant to take our daughter and 4 friends from college to dinner. When the 7 of us arrived, we were told Seated had given them an incorrect time for our reservation. They quickly set up a table for us and had us seated in under 5 minutes. Roger, our server, was amazing. He gave us a short history of the family restaurant and answered every question we had regarding the menu. The food and service were outstanding from start to finish! We will definitely return on our next trip to Greenwich Village!

Great Italian food!

By Eddie V |

We went here because our first choice, Monte's Trattoria was closed. The restaurant is owned by the same people and was still really delicious! Great service! I would eat here again!

Real Italian food!

By GCPlate |

I consider myself a good cook of Italian food...so once in a while we go down to Little Italy to visit authentic Italian restaurants and Villa Mosconi is one of the best. I had the Osso Bucco with Risotto...delicious, Polenta with Procini Mushrooms...incredible mix of texture and my husband had the homemade Gnocchi with Chingali (Wild Boar)...very authentic as we have eaten this dish in Rome. We traveled 2 hours from Upstate NY...well worth it! Ask for Carl (Carlo) the best waiter...great service and entertaining. Enjoy.

A wonderful hidden treasure in NYC

By HerbLehman |

Villa Mosconi is our go-to Italian restaurant in Manhattan because of its wonderful old-world atmosphere and delicious food. It has the best service of any restaurant I can recall going to. The staff really bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. As for the food, their lemon-wine chicken is exceptional, it's hard to find better marsala sauce, and their pasta dishes are good. Prices are fair for NYC. We are wine lovers and their house Chianti is one of our favorites. Only thing missing is better desserts, but we're normally so full that there's no room for dessert anyway! This is a lovely place to come mid-week when it's quiet; it can get very busy on Saturday night. I very highly recommend Villa Mosconi for a solid, relaxed Italian meal in Manhattan.

Wonderful staff, delicious classic cuisine

By lindarlou |

A slice of old school, South Village Italian. The food is very good. The service is exceptional. Definitely recommend!

Work team gathering

By Dave O'Marra |

Had 10-12 X colleagues getting together for some fine food and drinks from the Villa. The service was fantastic and all of the suggested food items were top notch. I will visit again for sure the next time I get back to NYC

Authentic

Really good authentic Italian food. Excellent service, you can tell they are a family establishment. I had the special, pesto salmon, it was amazing!

Lovely little Italian restaurant

By flynmatt |

During a weekend in NY we were looking for a nice romantic Italian restaurant for a Saturday night dinner. After strolling down McDougal we found Villa Mosconi. Wonderful little place. Great service from beginning to end. Appetizer was not your normal fare, exquisite polenta. Entrees were quite good although not quite special enough to give 5 stars but I would still highly recommend this for a great evening out.

Yummy food, awesome ambiance!!

By Tiffany M |

Great staff! Our waiter was really helpful and attentive and the staff was all very polite to each other. They were ok with some change ups to our orders. I had the lemon wine chicken, pretty good. The chianti was great! There's a cute back patio section. Definitely ask to be seated there!

Old Italy

By Carmen R |

One believes that nothing has changed in the interior of this old standard and I don't think anything has. Just OK.

Amazing meal and service

By greenwich24 |

Just had an amazing dinner at villa mosconi. Atmosphere is perfect, dinner was incredible and the service was even better. Definitely worth the trip down to the village.

A Wonderful Visit to the Past

By 347harveyh |

Villa Mosconi is a perfect incarnation of Italian restaurants of long gone by days: linen tablecloths and napkins, excellent service provided by waiters in white shirts and black pants and vests, food that mama would make, and all presided over by a gray-haired grandmother type that looks like she's out of central casting. And to top it off, the noise level allows for quiet conversation. For the past 43 years VM has been at the same location in Greenwich Village close to Houston, a great location if you're looking for a place to dine after taking in a movie at the Film Forum or a play at Minetta Lane. Also, Soho is close by. Prices are reasonable so try it. Good chance you'll become a regular.

classic italian

By canucktravel |

Our second visit just as good as the first a couple of years ago. Only a short stroll from Washington Square. Friendly staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Veal limone and parmigiana both very good as well as the spaghetti. Great find in the area. We will be back on our next trip!

One of my favorite restaurants in the Village

By Bob A |

Old school Italian Restaurant in the Village with plenty of charm. I like the great selection of food and the great waitstaff.

Excellent Home made pasta

By floridasuepg |

Found Villa Mosconi in an article on the lost foods of New York. I was looking for tortoni and found it here as one of only a handful of restaurants that still serve this delicious dessert. Additionally, we found an authentic old fashioned Italian restaurant with home made delicious food. The waiter was attentive and informative. My daughters and I very much enjoyed our meal. We will be back!

Extremely Disappointed

By Hanna S |

I chose this restaurant because it had such good reviews, but it was mediocre! I got a simple chicken dish that I would have expected to be really good, and it was very disappointing. The Pinot Grigio I got was awful! The ambiance was not impressive. The only thing that was good about it was the service.

Authentic, tasty Italian with great atmosphere

By kcirrad |

Our family of four visited based on a recommendation from a local and were not disappointed. The setting and decor were what we hoped for from an Italian restaurant in the city. There were several large groups and regulars and seemingly everyone was greeted with a hug from the owners and staff. The service was excellent and the meal was delicious. We will definitely visit again next time in NYC.

excellent

By frank d |

the food the service the area . how can you go wrong. Ordered an dish not on menu,no problem. it was simple and delicious . the bartender/ manager was fantastic the entire staff made us feel that we were at grandma's house for Sunday dinner

Thé food was very bad and very salt! I dont think is a nice italian restaurant . I was very depressed about the food. However the decoration is sad and old.

Great restaurant

Enjoyed our family dinner at Villa Mosconi! Waitstaff were excellent, food was very good and prices were reasonable. This is definitely a neighborhood restaurant frequented by regulars. I will definitely return!

Another Great Experience

By BigBruno |

I went with some friends and their son for dinner on a Saturday night. As in the past got a very nice Buona Sera! from all of the staff as usual and we were seated right away. We were fortunate enought to get Carlo as our server and what a wonderful job he does. He is a real pro and I've never seen a table pay so much attention to the server while explaining the daily specials as we all did with him. We did a cold antipasti for two and a hot antipasti for two and then we each ordered entree's. The antipasti was a great way to start the meal. I had the parpadelle with cinghiale and it was out of this world. Everybody loved everything they ate. For the desserts we ordered the Chocolate Mousse cake and Tiramisu and once again everyone was happy. Great people, great service and great food. What else could you ask for. I can't wait to get back soon.

Back to Bedonia...

By Leonardo Z |

The first time I stepped in this restaurant was like going back fifty years......the ladies preparing the fresh pasta or the spinach ravioli; the husband preparing a real "ragu alla bolognese" and the cousin serving the table and pouring a great Lambrusco scorza nera....what do you want more from life.......

Go there for food, linger there for service

By Becky L |

I love eating out, and I would like to eat at this charmer every week. The menu has an incredible selection, and our waitress assured us tat the kitchen staff would prepare our selections any way we requested. She rolled off the specials like beautiful poetry. We were stunned. We had the crab cake appetizer (she was not kidding that they were almost all meat and delicious), the artichoke appetizer (also good), the asparagus appetizer (tasty), and the polenta appetizer (yum). My friends and I shared our dishes: lamb shank really did fall off the bone, the wild boar and gnocchi was amazing (the sauce had a brilliant depth that I'll never be able to replicate), the "sea bass" was delicate and perfectly cooked, and my scallops sautéed with garlic and served over angel hair pasta was incredible (huge portion). The staff was attentive, welcoming, and fun. We felt like family. If I go back to NYC, I want to eat ere. HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU TRY IT!!!!

Old-time Italian

By jkleinig |

Have been twice lately. Service was pleasant and efficient without being overly intrusive. The atmosphere is old-style Italian, though not quite as homey as Gene's, several blocks away. Once ate in the pleasant covered garden area. The food was good, without being spectacular -- appropriately cooked lamb chops, a good lamb shank. Desserts OK. The ambience was nice enough to want to go back, but I felt that something could be done to perk up the menu.

Delicious.

By ironmikeval |

great Italian food. Been going since 1976! friendly staff. Great service. Veal, fish, chicken, pasta ...it's all excellent.

No wonder they're here 40 years!

By Fran85 |

We were a party of 10 so we were able to sample a wide variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Not shy(family and friends) the plates were going up and down the table. We were seated in a very nice back room with a skylight that I enjoyed more than the darker front of the restaurant. We had been here many years ago and it was fine but nothing memorable. This visit was memorable. Muscles in red sauce, artichoke app., mushroom app.,great salads etc. I love Branzino and it was a special that night....served in a lemon/white wine sauce with capers. The best I've had. Better than in Italy. Eggplant Parm, Chicken Rollatini, Stuffed Veal Chop,Ziti Bolonese, Veal Stew, Wiid Boar Bolonese, Chicken Scaparielli, then cannoli, Tartuffo, Biscotti,Zabaglioni and Cheesecake The cannoli and cheesecake were just ok. The service here is really special. I felt very comfortable and well taken care of! Not once did I have to ask for something or wait for something. As each dish was delivered I was asked if I had everything I needed. At one point I dropped my glasses and the young and very efficient waiter, who must have been standing in the background, watching us eat, immediately asked if he could take them to be washed! I declined so he brought a fresh napkin. We walked out having had a great night. This is a very unassuming restaurant and yet with all the reviews I've written, this is one of the best!

Delicious dinner

By Girlcaneat |

My husband and I had dinner here on a Friday night and had a great time. We were seated in an enclosed atrium area and had a very helpful waiter. The meals were delicious as was the dessert. The wait staff is very attentive and gave great service.

Favorable, But Not Great

By Robert A |

The restaurant is in the heart of the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The ambiance is average and can be a bit noisy. The service is excellent, but the food lacks imagination. There are better choices for Italian restaurants in the area and throughout the city.

Delicious classic Italian American in a warm neighborhood setting

By CBarNyc |

This restaurant has it all: classic, lovingly prepared red-sauce Italian food, friendly waiters, lovely neighborhood crowd, and cozy dining room. We love to come here for the delicious food, whether it's a weeknight and we want something good to eat, or a holiday like Easter, when the place is like being welcomed into a home. So many trendy places coming into the area, but thankfully Villa Mosconi stays strong thanks to it's solid combination of food, service and location. Long may it's doors remain open!

Simply The Best.....

By Djthomps442 |

I first happened upon Mosconi's for lunch one day in 1983, and have been in love with the place ever since. Fond memories of Mr. Mosconi sitting on a chair in the front, hanging coats, to the wonderful Carrado and Mario, two of the best waiters in the world, who always made you feel at home. And don't forget Gianni at the bar, by far one of the most congenial (?!?!?) bartenders in NYC, along with the wonderful sisters! And last but not least is Pietro, the pater familias who is always gracious, meets you with a big hug and smile, and is genuinely glad to see you enter his family restaurant. This place is truly one of the last, best family restaurants in NYC, and I strongly encourage you to visit. (And. oh, did I mention that the food is STUPENDOUS?!?!?) Enjoy!

Another Great Meal

By Frank11000 |

I have eaten at Villa Mosconi several times in the past and have always had a good meal. I had several out of town guests I needed to take out to dinner in NYC so I elected to go to Villa Mosconi based on past experiences there. It was a recent Thursday night and we were promptly seated for our 7 pm reservation. Our waiter was Danny and he did a great job with our party of 5. He went over the specials and explained which one in detail. We started with several appetizers that we all shared. Each one was very good and we all enjoyed them. We also ordered the house Chianti and again, everyone thougth it was great. Our dinners were timed perfectly and they also were great. My guests really like the old world feel and New York City flavor of the place. They all thought it was one of the best meals they ever had. It was nice to be able to bring guests to a place that they loved.

The Real Deal

By Holly K |

Walking into Villa Mosconi, one has the sense that it could be any decade, from the 1950s forward. It's as though time has stood still. The aura of the place is so special, so just right for what it is and where it is (adjacent to the New York Rifle Club). We arrived a bit early for our 6:00 p.m. reservation but we were not alone. There were two women already at the bar and, in the main dining room, one older gentleman dining by himself. As we looked at the menu and sipped a delicious prosecco, another couple arrived. And little by little, the dining room filled. One table of six went out to the garden. There's a garden! Here, the tables are spaced far enough apart that one's dining neighbors are not an intrusion. Music is Frank (Sinatra) and Frankie (Valli). You want something more modern? Eat somewhere else. Handsome Companion started with the insalata caprese, as usual. Two large slices of tomato were topped with thick slices of Mozzarella and chopped basil. I had a taste, deeming the cheese too cold. Cheese should be served at room temperature, period. Chilled cheese has no flavor. No matter, H.C. enjoyed it. For a main course, Handsome Companion had the gnocchi with pesto. He thought the pesto truly authentic and the gnocchi delicious. It was a generous portion. I had for my main course, the appetizer of polenta with cotechino, a large Italian pork sausage. It was delicious and it too was a generous serving, more than enough for me for dinner. Our waiter was charming and unflappable. Service was seamless. The thing about this place is that it is as genuine as New York gets. There's no pretense. It's simply the real deal.

Great Service and classic Italian

By Len K |

We came with a large group last Saturday and were seated in the back room with brick and a lot of glass. The service ( Jerry and another waitress) were outstanding. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The apps were delivered to the table and served family style and all of them were delicious. The entrees from the fish, veal chops, etc were perfectly prepared and all of us were very happy. We are all looking forward to returning,

Classic Italian in NYC, it doesn't get better!!!

By Michael C |

A family run place with classic old style Italian food that can't be beat. A long time customer because they are consistent and treat you like family. The veal ala Milanese is a personal favorite. Homemade pastas and deserts complete the meal.

Old school Italian

By matanzasinnlet |

A go to place when visiting Downtown New York City. A legit Italian restaurant in the truest sense of the word. You won't be sorry.

Disappointing experience all around

By Nina T |

Disappointing experience regarding food from the beginning. At 1:30 on a Saturday we were the only ones in the main dining room— a telltale sign! The bread and breadsticks were stale. I ordered a salad that I told our server I would split with my husband. He brought a double portion that he plopped in front of me. I told him that I only ordered one salad. He did bring it back to the kitchen and returned with one portion, which was good bc the lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers were soggy, and the “vinaigrette” tasted like watered down vinegar. I ordered pasta marinara, as I am vegetarian, and there were few options for me on the menu. Totally tasteless. It tasted like overdone pasta with a can of warmed up tomato sauce poured over it. My husband ordered a salmon dish which he said was bland tasting. I tasted his side dish of vegetables which consisted of three slices of mushy carrots, two broccoli florets which were hard as a rock and a mushy potato croquette. While we waited for our entrees a worker was drilling to repair a door a few feet away from our table! One of our friends in our party asked if they could stop as it was making it so noisy we could barely hear each other. Thankfully they did, but I don’t understand why the repair couldn’t have been done during off hours. Service was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend this place.

My New York City Italian Go-To

By Emily Brillanti |

I've been going to Villa Mosconi for about 7 years (since I moved to NYC). We originally heard about the restaurant from an old friend who lives outside of the city - it was his go-to Italian place in the city, and over the years it has become ours too. Not only is the food so so so good, but the staff makes you feel at home, and it's hard to find great food and great service in the city, which is why we always go back. It's old school Italian in an old school Italian atmosphere - does it get any better? Whenever my family is in town we always have one night spent at Villa Mosconi. We've been going so often that we have our regular waiter, Carl and we enjoy chatting with the other members of the staff too, everyone is SO NICE. Ok Ok, now the food. They have tons of options for appetizers, pasta, poultry, meat and fish. Majority of all of their pasta is handmade and fresh too. I typically go for their specials since I love to switch it up, but I've been there so many times I'm almost had everything, and its all amazing, you cannot go wrong. Moral of the story, if you're looking for a local, non-touristy, delicious Italian restaurant in a great part of town, make sure to check out Villa Mosconi. No fluff, just amazing food and great people. Xo

a classic Italian restaurant

By elena m |

We first went to this restaurant when we were looking for a place to have a rehearsal dinner. the food was excellent and so was the service. the best part of the meal was dessert- they make a great Zabaglione (Italian custard). We had the rehearsal dinner there and everyone raved about it. The food was great and the garden room was a perfect setting for the start of the wedding weekend celebarations. We try to get back there as often as we can.

Nice little find with great food and good old Italian atmosphere.

By BonitaNaples |

Monte's Trattoria was closed for vacation and they had a sign to go to Villa Mosconi and we were glad they did. Nice little find with great food and good old Italian atmosphere. One tip ask for the room in the back. Very reasonable prices

Pleasant evening and delicious dinner

By Daniel P |

Even though we have known about this restaurant for years, we made our first visit only a few evenings ago. We should have come before this. The room was delightfully decorated, with some beautiful original paintings. The menu and wine list was very attractive. We chose 2 different veal offerings for our main courses and were really pleased with the food - tender and tasty, and an excellent Chianti Riserva complimented perfectly. Desserts were tempting, but the best we could do was to share one between us. It is easy to understand why Villa Mosconi has been here so many years, We will be back soon.

Tradition and service

By jcdoug |

Booked 5 of us here on a Friday night, had a friend in from Europe who is a bit of a foodie. He loves NY Italian food. Mosconi is Italian, mom met us at the door, we were whisked away to our table where we had a lesuirley dinner of amazing Northern Italian fare, yes the foodie loved it, stuffed pork chop special was amazing. Stop here bring friends. EAT!

The chicken parm

By jeff f |

We had a business meeting with 20 people. It is often difficult to get good service when a large group is in the same room as several other tables but the staff pulled it off very well. For the most part the food was very good with 2 exceptions. The calamari was nicely lightly fried but had no particular flavor. And it didn't dip well into the marinara sauce. Should have had a lemon to make up for the lack of flavor. On the other hand, the chicken cutlet was the best any of us ever had. You just HAVE to try it if you ever go here. The desserts were skimpy and not enough to go around for everyone.

Booked for a special occasion but ended being disappointed

By Laleh N |

While this place is know to be supposedly iconic, the Food was average and service pathetic. Our waiter was in a bad mood and did not like us interrupting him or asking him questions. While in our reservation through OpenTable I had I dictated this was a special occasion and we would be celebrating our anniversary, no one even acknowledged this point or ask us about it. He hardly came by to ask us if we needed anything and at the end of the evening he had the gull to say we had not given him enough of a tip. When we complained to the restaurant manager about this behaviour he just shrugged his shoulders!!! So don’t waste your time or money. There are MUCH MUCH better place to eat in NYC

Where New Yorkers Go

By xtrainorig |

We have been taking our out-of-town friends here for years, and they always want to go back. First of all, the tables are set a civilized distance apart--not crammed together as they are at the way over-hyped Il Mulino, a few blocks north. Second, the waiters are helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite--all qualities lacking in the surly waiters at Il Mulino. The food is simply great--hearty, delicious, plentiful. I can recommend highly the veal, and for an appetizer the parmesan asparagus and portobello mushrooms. We once took a judge here, who asked sheepishly if it was OK to sop up the leftover mushroom sauce with some bread. Go right ahead, your honor! Also, they let you sit and chat over dessert and coffee instead of sending an army of stiff-armed busboys out to do everything but shove you off your chair--as they do at Il Mulino. And the price? About half what you'd pay at that other restaurant whose name I've already forgotten. You'd be crazy to go for New York Italian anywhere but Villa Mosconi.

AWESOME!!!

By UpInTheAirPotomac_MD |

My wife and I have been going here for a long time and when my son got engaged, she wanted to do the rehearsal dinner at Villa Mosconi. I'm so glad we did! We booked the back party garden room for 35 people and it was FANTASTIC! Jerry did an incredible job helping us to plan the menu, which was not easy because we no longer live in the NYC area. The room was perfect and everyone loved it! It was so nice and relaxed. The service was impeccable. The appetizers were a big hit and we offered 4 entrees - chicken parmigiana, veal marsala, broiled salmon and eggplant parmigiana. I had the veal, but tasted the chicken parm and it was very tasty and the most popular choice. The desserts were very fresh and a nice way to end the evening. We were on a tight schedule and Jerry made sure everything come out exactly on time. Very impressive that all 35 entrees came out within a minute of each other - all hot. I was more impressed when I walked out and saw that the place was packed on a Saturday night. The kitchen staff was incredible. We felt so special like we were the only ones there. And the garden party room was very private. Just PERFECT!!

My Favorite Italian Restaurant in NYC

By STUNNING212 |

Since High School (please do not do the math!) I've been a fan of VILLA MOSCONI. The food is always good & everyone is always welcoming, ALWAYS. You will feel comfortable immediately & everyone I've had a meal with there has. Any restaurant that can maintain that type of standard for so many years has to be fabulous. Manga!

However you say 'fabulous' in Italian!

By Megan K |

Could not have been more pleased with this place. We wandered in while walking through Grenwich Village and what a gem! Although we were from out of town, most of the folks there were locals, and the staff seemed to know everyone by name. The service was very attentive; our waitress answered all of our questions and even offered to personalize dishes for us. The atmosphere is just wonderful. It's like eating in the dining room of an Italian family. The food was absolutely outstanding as well. I had the lasagna, and it was the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had the lamb shank, which was so tender it was like brisket. All around great experience while visiting NYC.

Great business luncheon

By TourGuideBill |

I've been her numerous times with a business associate and can say that not only was the food excellent but the first class service is reminiscent of those "good old days" when everyone either knew you or wanted to know you better so they could serve you best.

Delicious and Authentic Italian

By Goldengirl1110 |

Came in with a party of four on a busy Saturday evening. Service was great. We ordered 2 appetizers along with our entrees and everything was awesome and truly authentic Italian food. Homemade pasta is a must, especially the Wild Boar Gnocchi. Everyone in my group thoroughly enjoyed their entrees and would be back again!

Long standing favorite

By SebagoSue |

We dine at Villa Mosconi whenever we visit New York. Still love it after all of these years. The menu is traditional Italian fare, lots of red sauce dishes and the yummy steaks. We have sent friends here and always get rave reviews.

Constant goodness

By Michael C |

From the welcome to that last wave goodbye this is a place to dine. The food, and service are top draw! A favorite is the butterflied veal chop, with home made pasta. A family owned and operated establishment since 1976.

Old World Italian

By MrDisnie23 |

Have had the pleasure of dining here many times and the food and service has always been consistent. It is an old style family run Italian restaurant, one of which you don't see much of anymore. The menu choices are superb and the portions are just right. Order the house wine, you won't be disappointed.

Superb Italian Food with great service

By James S |

This well established restaurant is excellent. Three of us had dinner in the homey dining room. The appetizers, entrees and wine were all very good. Perhaps the best Italian food I have eaten. The service was attentive and very courteous. The prices are very reasonable. Look forward to dining here again when in NYC.

Villa Mosconi not memorable

By K18R |

Life long New Yorkers who love classic Italian food. We went on a Monday nite and the restaurant was empty. We had calmiari and house salad for appetizers, assorted veal dishes for the main and tartufo and cheesecake for desert. Appetizers and deserts overpriced and main course portions were small with quality fair. Service was impeccable as we were the only ones there. Probably would not go back.

Old fashioned but solid red sauce joint

Decent but unexceptional old school New York Italian-American red sauce restaurant. Friendly, comfortable, unexciting.

By Renee P |

I cannot get enough of Villa Mosconi!! The food is amazing!! The best!! The quaint and cozy atmosphere makes you feel like you're at home. The staff treat you like you're family. I look forward to dinner at Villa Mosconi, the same way a child looks forward to Christmas!! I love, love, love it!

GREAT Italian food!

By fitzhoyt |

I love this place and I love the family atmosphere. The waiters are all friendly & it's almost like being with family. The food is great and it's also very close to Washington Sq. Park in Greenwich Village and if you have tickets for a show at the 'Players Theatre' it's a very short walk so it's very convenient.

What's not to LOVE

By Rita B |

We have been going to this restaurant for 35 years. When we lived in the city, it was a destination for all occasions! Birthdays, graduations (even from pre-school all the way thru high school), anniversary, or just because. This is an "old school" type of place. Decor could always be updated but there is tons of charm, and the food never seems to disappoint! The house wine flows, and the stories with the staff is never ending, and to see our son now show pictures of his kids to the staff is amazing! This will always be our family favorite! There are many other Italian restaurants to choose from, but this one is a keeper! Delicious food with a wonderful staff, who could ask for more?

A Traditional Italian in New York

By MarkQueensRoad |

Very nice family restaurant in Grenwich village/ soho boarders, with simple family home cooking, which I have to say now days is wasted on me? I tend to prefer to be wowed or surprised by outstanding ranges of flavoursome food? Which unfortunately Villa Mosconi was not. But still a pleasure to have eaten there.

Long time favorite

By johnfD8600OC |

Been going here for decades...the food is consistently good. The service is excellent and dollar for dollar one of the best deals in NYC! Oh and the place is very very comfortable. Not your typical Manhattan restaurant where you are sitting on top of each other...very very roomy. I am a native from the area...and every time I go there are people I recognize from the area...this is the exact opposite of a tourist trap.

Old School Excellence

By SuBen7510 |

If you love old school Italian food, ambiance and service, hurry to this lovely restaurant. The restaurant is lovely and comfortable. The menu is extensive with interesting specials. The service is excellent and efficient. The wine menu will please everyone. They have a wonderful fixed price three course lunch menu during the week from noon to 3PM. After you eat walk around this lovely neighborhood.

A decent meal

By melissa m |

I have mixed feelings about this place. This a small Italian restaurant. We were there on a Thursday night and it was not busy. I was there with my 2 teenage daughters. We were greeted and sat. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We started with the antipasto plate. My daughter ordered it an we were anxious to enjoy while we counted to go over menu. We were quite disappointed when it arrived. The salame was good, 3 types, but the rest of the plate left lot to be desired. There was two tiny pieces of cheese. There was tasteless beets, chickpeas, mushrooms, artichokes. It was like they opened a can and dumped. We thought maybe the night was going to be a bust. Then came dinner. That was good. We had a Caesar salad to share, chicken parm, chicken with prosciutto and cheese, a spinach pasta with meat sauce. Before we left, we chatted a bit with the bartender and a couple of servers. They were great.

Genteel and welcoming

By Gourmand |

Warm and kind service. Quiet old fashioned interior which is a reprieve from a much busier world outside. I dined alone and had a decent meal which comforting like good home cooked food. If I lived in the neighbourhood, it could easily have become a regular for me.

Best pasta ever

By Marco2177 |

I have been to the Villa some many times and their fresh pasta is the best I have ever eaten. The stuffed veal chop with Marsala sauce and artichokes are out of this world. Had Danny as my waiter, great suggestions and had us laughing all night. Old world feel to it with amazing food.

Authentic Italian Food, Atmosphere & Service!

By DrAndy1 |

This is a truly family run restaurant with a fine history. Locals frequent it as well as many repeat customers. The food is great. I have eaten here many times with my wife and parents as well as a party of twelve. I love there veal and eggplant parmigiana, all pastas (homemade), desserts and cappuccino.

Protypical Family-Style Italian Restaurant

By ParkSlopeDude |

It's easy to forget what year it is at Villa Mosconi. It could be the present day or it could be 1955. VM is a throwback to the NYC Italian restaurants of years gone by, and all in a good way. At the entrance is a full service bar where you might find the bartender watching a ball game, or you might find people having a drink before heading to a table. The tables are nicely spaced, and there isn't a bad table anywhere. They are all four-tops, and that mean you have room on the table for your dishes and privacy for your conversation. It is a comfortable, laid-back layout that invites eating, drinking and chatting. The menu is a sprawling landscape of the usual northern Italian dishes, such as pasta (of your choice) Bolognese, stuffed chops, lasagna, and the like. While you won't find any ground-breaking culinary concepts or nouvelle cuisine deconstructions, you will get reliably good and filling family-style Italian food in a friendly setting. It's a great place to have a pre-dinner martini or Manhattan (the drinks of choice of the regulars) and sit back and do some peope-watching. After all, it's on MacDougal Street, near the corner of Bleecker, which was ground zero for the Beat movement, the precursor of all of today's hipness. You just can't tell who's gonna walk in the door. Go and enjoy some wonderful food, some timeless ambiance, and some real NYC Italian family restaurant culture.

An Italian NY delight. Bellissimo!

Best Italian food in NY. great service, loving people and a great Atmosphere, like having dinner like Mama used to make! Bellissimo!!!!

Old world charm and great food

By Daniel P |

Villa Mosconi has been around for ever and has maintained a consistently high standard. The restaurant is spacious and the noise level is very comfortable - noise and overcrowding are increasingly a problem issue in New York restaurants. We chose two variants of Dover sole, expertly prepared and attractively presented. The accompanying Orvieto was served perfectly. On a warm evening we were invited to dine in the covered garden at the rear of the restaurant. Service was charming and relaxed. It all added up to a really pleasant experience. We look forward to returnong soon.

OLD SCHOOL

By 1dartman |

Great service in this old fashion Italian restaurant. All the classics on the menu. That being said my entrée (linguini white clam sauce) was very disappointing. Others in my party didn't comment one way or the other on their food.' Did have a buffalo mozzarella and tomato app that was pleasant.

Great pace for drinks, can't wait to go back for the food

By BigBruno |

I got there after I had eaten dinner elsewhere. Mike and the Italian women at the bar were extremely friendly and I really enjoyed having some Peroni and Sambucca at the bar with their company. I had to leave NY before I had a chance to get back to eat there but I can't wait to go back. I did go to their sister restaurant down the street and it was great. Thanks for the hospitality and can't wait to get back to see you!

Disappointed this time

By sophiegirl0814 |

Have been coming to this restaurant since 1985. Definitely changed throughout the years not necessarily for the better. Food was just ok service was mediocre. I believe with the passing of original owners standards are falling. It's a neighborhood staple so I hope they can turn things around and raise their standards again.

A Greenwich Village Institution!

By maxinedds |

Still serving excellent Italian food for all these years! The veal melts in your mouth and you really don't need a knife to cut it! The service is "old school" , polite but not over bearing. The escarole is like grandma would make if you had your own Nonna. There are plenty of home made pasta selections that you can't go wrong. But do choose the pasta side with your main course you will not be disappointed! It will be perfectly al dente pasta sauced perfectly. I almost forgot how much I loved spaghetti with a simple well done marinara. They won't rush you, we closed the place!

Great old-style Italian!

By Jim P |

Two of us ate here yesterday evening and had a really good meal. Attentive staff without being over-fussy, a wide ranging menu of fresh food and lots of really tasty portions. Good value for money too - it won't burn a hole in your pocket unless you really splash out! You can't see the dining area from outside - it's via a little bar, and is pretty large, with happy diners around lots of tables. It's not exactly formal, but is old-style: quality food and great staff.

Good Service

By LadyLucia |

Friendly atmosphere, good service, and tasty food. I'd give it a higher rating but was surprised to learn that the fried calamari is frozen and not fresh. The lack of tentacles gave it away!

Couldn't be Better

By Barbara I |

I worked very closely with Jerry to organize a dinner in the charming private room. He was always available and helpful. It was a pleasure to work with him. Jerry is a great guy who very clearly wants to make sure that his guests have a terrific time and a delicious meal. He is generous and fun and gives your event as much thought as if it were his own. A warm host, he sets the tone for a lovely evening. My guests could not get over how delicious everything was and the incredible abundance of choices. The evening was very special and I owe a great deal of that to Jerry and his excellent staff who did a terrific job throughout the entire evening.

Horrible

By elizhoogs |

Friends suggested we go here so we agreed, but I have little to say that's good. It was empty when other places were packed. It felt like a church basement. The food was mediocre at best, one dish was unetable. The menu is way too long and it's old school Italian in a not-good way. Go to Babbo or Lupa. Or anywhere else.

excellent restaurant

By jane s |

We visit the NYU area a lot and found this restaurant close by New York University Washington Square area! We had an amazing time recently and had such a great meal we took family back with us the second time! The gnocchi and lasagna were out of this world!! You get a lot of food for your money and in New York that's hard to do. And the bartender, host and waiters are so friendly and accommodating!

Just What We Were Hoping For...

By marsle |

We are staying at a nearby hotel so we wanted something delicious and within walking distance as it was a rainy evening. We loved our waiter - he was efficient but he didn’t rush us to make our dining choices. The food was good - we liked the eggplant parmigiana a little better than the porcini mushroom pasta dish. The carafe of Sangiovese was perfect as was the light ricotta cheesecake. We will return!

Wonderful Italian Food, Comfortable Atmosphere!

By BaysideConnecticut |

This was our first time here. It is like eating at a friend's house, the decor is warm and cozy, the service is attentive and friendly. We were a party of seven for Easter dinner at five, it was a fixed menu. I started off with the melon, crisp, cold and fresh; I had some of the appetizers off my wife's plate, very nicely done. The ravioli was fresh and flavorful. Almost everyone had the lamb, it was very good - I wish it had been a bit better, but I attribute this to it being a fixed menu on a very busy day. The tiramisu was very tasty but a small portion. The wine was house red and house white and the unanimous judgement was that it was very good, almost excellent, surprisingly so for a house wine. As I said, the service was prompt and friendly. We lost track of the time, having arrived at five by eight we suddenly realized we were the only table left save for a private party in the back room that was also breaking up. As I stood up I saw two waiters at a nearby table (my back had been to them) just sitting and chatting. I was most impressed by this, one of the hallmarks of a quality restaurant is that if you linger they do not stop by frequently so that you are reminded that it is getting late. The tab for seven was 466 bucks, well worth every penny. We will be back.

Flat Out Grand & Wonderful! Memorable Food, Warm Family Atmosphere! One of the Best Anywhere

By BaysideConnecticut |

This was our second time here. Again, it is like eating at a friend's house, the decor is warm and cozy, the service is attentive and friendly, you really feel relaxed and almost at home and the food is just grand, lingering in your memories long after the meal is over. We want to get back here this summer. We were a party of seven for Easter dinner at five, it was a fixed menu. I had the cold appetizers, delightful, then I had the delicious ravioli in a memorable sauce. For the entree I had the veal marsala, just grand. Dessert was the tiramisu, just about the best I have ever had. While the others had a wide variety of the food they were all united in raving about the quality and the freshness of the dishes. The service was impressive, quick but not hurried, attentive but unobtrusive, among the best waitstaff I have ever encountered. We weren't quite the last party to leave but it was close and, just like last time, we had no idea how late it was, we lost track of the time and didn't get up until after eight. Yet there was no indication in any way that they were closing. You really must eat here, seriously, you must. Before you eat at any other restaurant in "The City" go to Villa Mosconi at least once.

Villa Delish!

By catnjim1 |

We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Villa Mosconi on a Saturday evening during the Christmas season. I know the restaurant is always busy but add the Christmas season into it - it was extremely busy. Loved everything we ordered - homemade cheese ravioli, chicken rolatini, veal rolatini, clams, the house chianti - all delicious. I love Caesar salads so of course I had to order one - this to me was a bit disappointing. Didn't love it. We did order dessert but after 20 minutes of waiting we asked the waiter for the check only to find out he charged us for the desserts even though he never brought out the desserts. We had to wait another 15 minutes for our check to be updated. We will be back - too much left on the menu to try and it all sounds delicious. There is no parking lot - and finding a parking spot on the street can take awhile so give yourself enough time before your reservation. Yes - I highly recommend that you make a reservation especially for the weekend.

A must!

By Robert B |

Went with a group of eight and everyone raved of their meal. The service was excellent and the food choices were unbelievable. I would definitely recommend for a group or a couple. I don't believe anyone will go away not pleased. Don't pass this one up. Very authentic.

Very Expensive...

By Stephanie C |

We went to Little Italy and stopped at this restaurant on the advice of a friend that had eaten here before. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti was not cooked all the way, very crunchy and the meatballs had no flavor. Quite expensive to eat here. We ate at another Italian restaurant closer to where we were staying in Central Park and it was much much better..

Cockroach in pasta

By TheMuttMaven |

We're locals, and I have been coming to Viila Mosconi with my parents since I was a child, over 30 years, and continued the tradition when I married. We stopped in last night, the 13th, before seeing a friend's set at the nearby Bitter End. First of all, two waiters were fighting over our table. The waiter who seated us obviously thought "our" table would be his, but another younger waiter jumped in an took our order. We realized this was a problem when the original waiter who seated us came to take our order and we told him the other waiter had already put our order in. Uh-oh. Maybe that's why I found a cockroach in my tagliatelle with nushroom sauce. I actually felt it crunch and then tasted something horribly bitter. When I spat it out, I saw the partially mangled cockroach. After 30+ years patronizing this restaurant, which I loved, the cockroach is a deal breaker. We will none of us be going back.

Old World Style & Charm

By Joseph F M |

The place to enjoy a fine meal with friends. Six of us have been dining here for past ten years. Service is professional and food is fresh and prepared as order. Specials include meat, fish & pasta and are always extensive and tasty. Stop by John's Bar for a pre meal adult refreshment. Check out the Who's Who Photo Gallery.

FANTASTIC

By Mike S |

Have been going to this restaurant for over 5 or 6 years now. With all the choices in Manhattan this is one of the best. Exceeds expectations at every level, food is excellent, many choices but the best are the waiters. Everyone makes you feel you are a special guest, between Carl, Danny, Jerry & Mario they all are terrific. The best is the sauces, it's not all red, it is Northern Italian kitchen and the brown sauces are great with veal and chicken. Not to be overlooked

My Favorite Italian Restaurant in NYC

By rexh |

I have been going to Villa Mosconi for almost 40 years and it remains my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Many of the same people are still there, with their children working there as well. It is truly a family run business with outstanding quality and delicious food. The service is laid back but efficient and you never feel rushed. I always get the zuppa di pesche in white wine sauce (out of this world) while my wife insists the Veal Milanese is the best she has ever tasted. I had the tortellini in brodo (perfect for a cold night) as an appetizer while my wife enjoyed clams oreganata. I have frequently had half orders of pasta as appetizers which are quite good, and full orders are recommended as entrees. Rum cake and Ricotta Cheesecake are excellent choices for dessert. Prices are quite reasonable for NYC. The decor is a little dated in the main dining room, so try to sit in the glass enclosed garden area in the back of the restaurant. It can take a while to get your check at the end of your meal as the restaurant is always packed, but this is a minor inconvenience. Can't wit for my next visit!

Italian food at its best - traditional taste & exceptional service

By jlio3 |

I've been to Villa Mosconi numerous times and each time was perfect! My family and I come here for special occasions and for dinner with no special occasion in mind. It's the Italian style food that I am used to. If you want them to change a dish a bit or make something special for you, it's no problem. And, consistency is promised. The staff knows how to pamper you! No joke! I promise you will not be let down.

As if you were a family member

By Philippe M |

Villa Mosconi is making you feeled as if you were one of their family member. Welcome is warm and service is very friendly, without any stress. And finally the italian dishes are excellent. Thank you for this excellent diner, we will definitely come back!

You can't go wrong at Villa Mosconi!!!!

By Michael C |

As a long time customer at VM, I can say for certain that they do everything to see that you are catered to. They are family style and family to everyone who enters their doors since day one! Old style dining and meals to match with impeccable service. My club has had many events there and we had the most enjoyable meals in New York City!!!

Always great

By Raye L |

We do a large family, Christmas dinner her every December with folks coming from all over. Jerry and all do a great time setting up the dinner for us. Veal, chicken, seafood and pasta - you can’t lose here. VM is old school Italian with great food, service and nice cozy atmosphere. We’re already planning to come back next year.

Great old world Italian Food

By Ahg2 |

This is a throw back Resturant. The family is engaged in all aspects- they greeted us at the door and had our table ready. The waiter was attentive, the food was excellent and the price was fair. We will be back.

Old World Charm

By Joy C |

Our waiter was great, and offered variations on the the listed choices for us (different pasta or sauce with the entree). Servings were generous and the general atmosphere felt like a trip back in time. Loved it.

Really?

By Roberto DB |

I'm spending two minutes to wright this review to just say: this place has nothing from Italy. The quality of the food is mediocre, the place is a mess with poor decor and no ambiance at all. Really, it is enough to have an Italian name to pretend to be Italian? I respect everyone loving the place. Please, don't mix this up with an Italian restaurant. Good cuisine in my country is something different.

Not worth a visit

By DeniseNJNYC |

I have always heard good things about this restaurant and I am sorry to say I was very disappointed. The service was less than satisfactory for a restaurant that was not very busy. Overall the food was ok but nothing special. One of us ordered eggplant which didn't even come with pasta and a small side order of pasta cost more than $5. One of us ordered pasta and meatballs; the meatballs were pretty bland and tasteless. The pasta sauce was the consistency of a pink vodka sauce and was sweet. The exception was a special order of pasta puttanesca which was very good.

Tops for Northern Italian cuisine

By BigG666 |

Can't be beat if you're into Northern Italian. It's all home made and fit for a king. I always have a problem making a selection because they're all so good. The wait staff is attentive and the service is top notch. We were not in the least bit rushed even though there were people waiting. We keep going back.

Below Average Food, High Prices

By Jonathan L |

Food was below average. Prices were high. Ordered a simple chicken dish and it was a small portion. It was very bland and disappointing. Service was good and staff was very friendly. Drink menu is lacking choices and the atmosphere is odd. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Fantastic

By Jane-ChrisBScotland |

We had a really memorable meal here in May. We were seated in a covered patio area which was delightful. The waiter had one of the most gorgeous voices and I could have listened to him all night. Made the specials sound even better!! good food, good eating area, reasonably priced. what more can you ask!

Dinner

By Rich C |

Great Italian food - a bit pricey but it is NYC and worth the visit. The help was friendly and the service was great - had 4 different people tend to the table throughout dinner. Would highly recommend.

A REAL NYC ITALIAN RESTAURANT

By MHM49 |

You can always count on this family feeling restaurant to have excellent food and warm service. I've never been disappointed! Great location too. Not overpriced and definitely not a stuffy place to bring family or friends. I'm a native NY'er.... but I can see where this would be an ideal spot to bring visitors from out of town!

Pretty awful

By Catherine O |

This was pretty bad. My daughter had some sort of chicken that came with spaghetti. This was more like an awful appetizer fiasco. Hardly any of a poorly prepared chicken and just about a saucer full of spaghetti - both of which were of poor quality and taste also. I had spaghetti and meatballs (pretty simple what?) The meatballs tasted awful and were almost raw. The spaghetti was of a really poor quality with a peculiar taste. I did not eat it . Needless to say we left hungry and with upset stomachs a short while later. The décor was lovely but the chef, staff, etc did not measure up at all. Won't go back there. Must say Hunt's tomato sauce would have been better.

The Best!!

By UpInTheAirPotomac_MD |

Had a graduation party with 25 people in the garden room on a Monday night. Jerry knows how to throw a great party!! Food was awesome and the service was very attentive. This is the real deal. Been coming here for years. Best old school Italian restaurant in Manhattan!!!

Lucky we found this place.

By Don C |

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat prior to seeing a comedy show. Lucky for us we walked a bit further down McDougal and came upon Villa Mosconi. The menu looked good so we decided to try it. What a stroke of luck! The place is comfortable yet classy with a very calming vibe to it. The waiter we had was wonderful. He chatted with us, took our orders and served us with a grace and charm that you do not often find. The food was fantastic, and the prices are VERY reasonable. If you are anywhere near this place you should make it a point to eat here. You will be very glad you did!

Divine food and excellent service

A Special Place

By jds64000 |

We came after Winter Storm Stella, when they were about to close early, and they let is in for a magical meal. Carl served the 5 of us and captivated our 2 pre-teens. All of the dishes were great, yet most of the staff had been let off. The Tagliorini al Pesto is to-die-for. We WILL BE BACK!!!

YEARLY TRADITION

By sophiegirl0814 |

We have been enjoying this restaurant since the late 80's. The staff are friendly the food well prepared and quite delicious. Old school Italian food. What your grand parents called peasant food. My family and I hope to enjoy this restaurant for years to come.

Red sauce Italian food at its best!

By Laura T |

My husband and I have eaten here for a couple of years. The food and service are consistently stellar. As is the wine list. Don't ponder it, just book the table and enjoy.

Great find!

By Antigoniesq |

We must have passed this restaurant a thousand times over the years but had never tried it until recently - our loss... When we finally did, we loved it! From the warm welcome, the old fashioned waiters, the somewhat dated but oh so homey look of the seating area, the plethora of the menu choices, and the delicious dishes we ordered (veal pizzaiola), everything was just right. Can't wait to go there again!

Classic NYC Italian

Great food and service

By Len K |

Went into NYC with friends to see the play [ Ain't to proud] after seeing this wonderful play we travelled down to Villa Mosconi. The food including the apps of stuffed mushrooms, articles, calamari clams etc were all perfectly prepared and served. The main courses of shrimp, salmon, chicken parm were all delicious. We have visited in the past and we will be back. This is a place where you are treated like family. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day.

Great Appetizers

By jaybirdrcky |

Home made linguini with porcini mushrooms with a nice light brown sauce. Cold antipasto, VG carpaccio. Our group had - Wild boar with gnocchi (little salty), Bronzini sautéed, Chicken cacciatore, Chicken marsala, Shrimp scampi with 8 or so rather large shrimp. Great bread and bruschetti on the table as soon as we sat down. The waiter staff was very tentative, from explaining the specials to water to wine to the VG service. The restaurant was a little dated inside, BUT who cares, I am eating the food not the decor LOL. A whole wall of some pretty kool pictures of famous people that have eaten here. Would go back

Buon Appetito

By SophiesChoice42 |

We live in the area and have been going to the Villa Mosconi for years. We had a wonderful Easter Dinner- good food, excellent service and a leisurely meal. The restaurant was packed but we received true old world attentive service. We had come in early in the day and the restaurant was quiet but as the families and larger groups arrived, the noise level went up. It was a holiday and everyone was enjoying themselves! We have never been disappointed.

Lovely Afternoon at Villa Mosconi!

By JMS23 |

After looking for a venue for about 30-35 people,Villa Mosconi was recommended to me. It was - for our occasion, a reunion - perfect for all of us. Jerry, a family owner of the restaurant worked we us to develop a fabulous varied menu and offered us one of the two private rooms. Service was great and delicious food plentiful. Everything went well and most importantly, everyone was MORE that satisfied with the great Italian food. I am first generation Italian from a family who life revolved around great food. Villa Mosconi's dishes were top notch with fair - for NYC - prices. It is puzzling for others who have reviewed this restaurant to be less than pleased. Southern Italian dishes and pleasant service!

The best Italian restaurant in NYC.

By Blaise P |

Mosconi's is the greatest. I have been going there since the late 70's. I was just there on Valentines day and had a fantastic meal with another couple. For my appetizer I had the baked artichoke which is such a treat. They were always a staple at family dinners but now Mosconi's is the only place I get the dish. Unless I make it myself. Truly delicious and prepared just like home. For my dinner I had a stuffed veal chop. It was stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella and smothered in mushrooms, artichoke hearts and a rich dark gravy. Fabulous. My wife and the other gal both got the Mosconi salad which was bountiful and neither could finish. My wife had the chicken Bolognese which was chicken breast with prosciutto and mozzarella and a delicious sauce. The other couple had chicken indorato and chicken rolatini. The couple both were totally enamored with the place and their food. My friend was a wall streeter and never ventured up from the financial district to eat. But he has had plenty of dining experience in NYC and christened Mosconi's as his "new place"! We each got pasta with our dinners except my friend who chose the mixed veggies. Now when I heard that being offered I was not enthusiastic about mixed vegetables. But when I saw his plate I was envious. It had roasted potatoes and green beans, artichoke hearts, asparagus etc and prepared and presented picture perfect. He couldn't finish. We were there for two and a half hours having a grand time. The waiter was personable and at the end of the night he gratuitously provided a homemade lemoncello aperitif! Nice touch. The cost of dinner in NYC has gone up but Mosconi's prices are reasonable and for your tastebuds the price can't be beat. My veal chop was $34, but the chicken dishes were in the mid or low $20's. The pasta dishes they serve like lasagna are all under $20. Appetizers are around 10 to 14 but are worth the cost. You can get two distinct Italian specialties for appetizer and dinner that you won't soon forget. I wish I lived in the building that houses this restaurant. I would eat dinner there every night. and hang out there Saturday and Sunday from lunch thru dinner.

If there were 10 stars they would get that it is so good!

By Steven H |

Authentic Italian Food. Cooked by a renowned, decorated chef. You can taste the care in every dish. Not pre-made garbage Italian named junk. You can taste the difference and authentic taste in every bite from appetizer, to entree to dessert. There is a reason this place has been here 42 years. I grew up in area and used to go 42 years ago and it is still the top quality place to eat. Waiters are friendly, professional and cater to you (one has been there 42 years and I can attest as I was there 42 years ago...lol). DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A GREAT TASTE OF ITALY!!

Service was A+ and the food was really good

We had a large group and they accommodated us by giving us a room in the back. They made it into a U-shape for us. Our hosts selected a family style meal for us. The food was amazing. We had lamb shanks, pastas, cured meats, wine (lots of it), and the list goes on and on. Overall the food was top notch flavours without being salty. The perfect amount of texture and flavour. We went as a big group but they had dedicated a crew of staff to us which was very kind of them. Thank you, Villa Mosconi!

Just average!

Wine great! Appetizer fair & dinner fair! Tiramisu excellent! Friendly service! Tried it probably will not go back! Not sure where all the great reviews came from!

This place has heart

Decor is old world. Staff and owners have old world charm. It is so nice to see pride of ownership in an establishment that has been around for a long while, I surmise. We had a wonderful dinner enjoying simple fare. Enjoyed a rucola, endive radicchio salad with a simple vinaigrette. Savored the straciatella soup. Enjoyed a veal marsala and ossobuco with a side of spinach. Espresso was superb. Ask for Carl, our waiter. He is so charming and delightful

Very happy with recent party here. Would recommend for a party, or just a dinner!

I needed a venue for an engagement party that wasn't going to break the bank, and could serve my needs in terms space, food, and location. I looked in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Wheelchair accessibility was also necessary. Villa Mosconi filled the bill. The space was roomy, the food was very good and we did not feel rushed. It was a 4 hour event in the back 2 rooms. The patio room is particularly charming. Jerry was completely accommodating from start to finish. I hadn't eaten here in 25+ years, and coming from an Italian family, I did have my reservations about the quality of the food, but, we could not have been more pleased. Everyone enjoyed the food, and the cannolis were a big hit. Thank you VIlla Mosconi!

Simply the best!!

Like dining with family

By Mike U |

From the moment I walked in, I was treated like a valued guest in their home. This is an old school restaurant. Everyone seems to know everyone. Even though I was new to the place, I was treated the same. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. My order was simple: meat ravioli. Simply put: delicious. Very large serving for a great price. Again, servers were very attentive and very nice.

Family-style restaurant with delicious and large portions

By Jennie c |

Went for our first time with friends, and it is a very nice family-style restaurant. The portions were large and delicious. The grilled artichoke hearts were outstanding. We also ordered the stuffed pork chops (huge portion) as well. Our waiter was extremely attentive and we enjoyed the meal. Tiramisu for dessert was great! We all left stuffed and fulfilled. Definitely come here with friends or family for great conversations along with the delicious food.

Very nice meal

Lovely meal with a wide range of choices and delicious wine list. Service was very nice and in an area surrounded by great bars too. Slightly pricey but great for a special meal. Thank you very much!

Very good authentic NY Italian old School

By shozgirl |

Have always wanted to try and finally did. Very happy overall with the food and service. We had Caesar salad which as truly delicious. Then classic veal parm and chicken parm with sides of spaghetti with garlic and oil. The decor is old fashioned but that's exactly what we wanted. Cannot replace these traditional spots and they are disappearing. Family run and it shows.

A Neighborhood Gem!

By jwells3665 |

We were staying in Times Square, but we decided to take the train down to walk around the Village. Since both of us had a craving for Italian food, we decided to "google" Italian restaurants in the area. Fortunately for us, we found Villa Mosconi on MacDougall Street. While it didn't look like much from the outside, we were pleasantly surprised when we walked through the front door. This is a family owned and operated business, and it seemed like every family member had a job at the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by a woman who brought us to our table. We had called ahead for reservations, which was good, as it got very busy. The tables are nicely spaced, so you can carry on a quiet conversation. There's a beautiful bricked-in patio at the back of the restaurant, filled with hanging plants - a really pretty room. We ate in the main dining room, which was filled with white linen-covered tables. We noticed that many of the diners near us were greeted by name when they entered - always a good sign to know that the locals come back to this place. It was definitely a neighborhood restaurant, which gave it a warm, laid-back vibe. The food was delicious - try the ziti Bolognese - but only if you have a huge appetite or want left-overs the next day. Be sure to check out the photos of celebrities who have visited the restaurant. When we go back to NYC, we'll check out the Garden Room.

My birthday wish every year is to come here - and I don't live in NY.

This is by far the best Italian food you'll ever devour. Excellent home made pasta, perfectly cooked veal, delicious appetizers, entrees, desserts and terrific staff and owners! Every time we've been here, the food was outstanding, the atmosphere was fun and friendly and we claimed one dish was better than the last with every bite. It's a hidden treasure in Greenwich, so don't tell too many people - we want to keep it for ourselves. : )

Great dinner

Very nice dinner spot! Homemade Italian. I had the fettuccini with truffle sauce-excellent. After dinner, homemade tiramisu! Service was excellent.

Still Wonderful

Wondering around on New Year's Eve after a movie, my husband and I decided to pop into Villa Mosconi for dinner. We had no reservations, but were immediately seated in the already crowded restaurant. What can I say? We hadn't been there in years. We found the food to be excellent-polenta with portabello mushrooms, fish, and wild boar. The carafe of wine was terrific. And the service-perfect. Here's to many more years of this wonderful neighborhood establishment!

Excellent food & service

By Bill S |

went in on Saturday nite with another couple and were immediately greeted by just about all the staff upon entering. The family seems genuinely glad that you have chosen their restaurant to eat in. Food was excellent, large choice of items on menu, plus large choice of specials, we had items from both, food was Great, service was great, waiter Danny on top of things but not overbearing, made some great suggestions. Family owners came over to greet us & chat as well. This is a place that is not touristy. Locals know it well and pass the word around to friends etc and that is how we found out about it. Have been to many Italian places in the Village and what is left of Little Italy and this one rates among the top. Appears small from the outside but has 3 spacious dining rooms inside with tables nicely spaced apart so you are not bumping chairs with the table next to you. Family owned and run for over 30 years and they make sure that everything is up to par. They treat you like you are part of their family as well. As we left they all said goodnight to us and hoped that we enjoyed our food, evening, and that we would return again. No doubt we will be coming back again. Great job Famiglia Mosconi!!

Classic experience

By BMMNewYork |

This family run establishment boasts great food, accommodating service and overall good vibes. We were there for lunch on a quiet day so there was no determining what the noise level could be on a busy night, but whatever it is will be worth it. Nice wine and liquor selection. The restaurant looks aged but it felt more "homey" than outdated. Absolutely worth the experience. Will make every effort to return there with more friends.

An old favorite in Greenwich Village

By Steven M |

One of our old favorites (along with Montes which is closed on Tuesdays). Just as good as always although a bit more expensive, but not too bad. The food and service are both still great, and it is always warm and welcoming. We'll be back next time we're in NYC.

HELL NO. Will never go back there again !

By alxndrdvl |

I cannot believe the high ratings on Trip Advisor for this mediocre place... I quickly checked their page before having dinner there, but maybe I should have looked a bit further into the comments. The quality of the products is bad, the cooking is bad. My hubby ordered fish, which was completely tasteless. I ordered a veal scaloppini alla bolognese... The only taste I remember of was SALT. So much SALT. Wine was average. Not great, not awful either. There are many other Italian places in that neighbourhood that have so much more to offer, this restaurant is not worth the money you'll spend there.

A little hard to find but well worth the search

By ITCountM |

Well established (40 years) Italian Restaurant offering wide range of homemade pasta dishes as well as meat and fish Italian favorites. Seasoned, well trained wait staff, full bar. Street parking may be a problem. Large private dining function space in rear. Décor, old style linen tables clothes, fine art oil paintings on the walls, etc.

Must go back again!

By Angela P |

We were welcomed with open arms by Angela. The staff treated my daughter like a little princess. The atmosphere was gorgeous and the food excellent! We must go back again!

Must try harder

By Scott M |

All round very disappointing. The food was middle of the road when it was served warm and the service a little insulting. I'm sure this was just a bad night for them as some of the reviews were positive-don't think we'd go back though

Making new friends in NYC

By Dahlia G |

On my recent visit to NY, my friend and I went to dinner with someNY natives. They took us to Villa Mosconi. What a gastronomic experience! the food was deee-lish. I was especially impressed by the marinated grilled artichoke. It was absolutely the best artichoke I've ever eaten. Great location, great food, great company; wonderful evening.

Real ny Italian restaurant

Loved this little gem of a place. Found it whilst wandering on our first night in NY and had a great meal. Fantastic service, friendly, home from home, family restaurant. Recommend and would certainly return.

"Harriet, it's been a long time.

By Holly K |

Can I get you a Creme de Menthe?". These were the words uttered by one of the several waiters who waited on the lone 90 (?) year old woman who had come to dine at the reserved table next to ours at Villa Mosconi. She had been escorted to her table by a waiter, who walked her over carefully and patiently, seated her, and then put her cane within reach, asking, as he finished, "The usual, Harriet?", after which another waiter brought her her usual cocktail. Now, you can't eat the atmosphere, but you can drink it in, revel in the fact that places like this still exist in New York, and on any given night, you can join Harriet, a table of five Australians, two longshoremen (or perhaps, retired longshoremen), a doctor and his wife, and a devoted son and his spry 80-something mother for dinner, while a cadre of experienced Italian (ours, from Sicily) waiters tend to you with care and pleasure. The food? I thought you'd never ask. My appetizer of polenta with mixed mushrooms was simply delicious, the varied flavors of the woodsy mushrooms against the bland corn flavor of the polenta a perfect contrast of flavors and textures. My main course of cannelloni was wonderful, with light, tasty sheets of pasta, delicious red sauce, and melted mozzarella cheese. My handsome companion had the spaghetti for his starter and devoured it (but not before I reminded him to share a taste with me; delicious, cooked al dente and sauced well). For his main course, he had the salmon livornese, a very generous portion of salmon, a delicious sauce and several clams and mussels surrounding it. He declared it delicious. Harriet sipped her cocktail and ate some bread along with a plate of fried zucchini. The five Australians laughed and talked in the corner. The two longshoremen tucked into their pastas and sipped their wine. The mother and son carried on a animated conversation, she correcting him on some memory of a long-lost relative, and the doctor and his wife finished with coffee and said goodnight. Just another night at Villa Mosconi . . . .

Authentic old-style Italian food

By Rita S |

This is a classic, old style Italian restaurant in the Village. Waiters were Italian, no "froo-froo" Italian dishes, just good old style Italian food. Not a lot of atmosphere, but if you're looking for good old style, authentic Italian food, this is it. I joke that this is the type of place Michael Corleone would come out of the bathroom with a gun in his hand. Yea, that kind of authentic.

Annual Holiday Dinner

We had our team dinner again here last night - The food and service was outstanding ! We were treated like family ! We will be back again next year - thank you to everyone at Villa !

Never again

By justgianna |

I don't know where these raving reviews come from. Maybe they are reviewing another place and confused it with this one because it was horrible. We should have ran when we saw how empty it was while the streets and even the crepe place was busy with people but we decided to give this place a chance. The service was friendly and warm. That's where the good ends. I ordered the pesto gnocchi and it had no flavor. None. Even the parm cheese they put on (I swear it was the Kraft stuff you buy at the grocery store not the fresh shredded kind you usually get at Italian restaurants) wasn't enough to give it any taste. The Ceasar salad was soggy and consisted of pretty much putting romaine lettuce on a plate, throwing on extra old croutons and pouring the grocery store dressing you buy in a bottle. Bread basket had an unknown white bread loaf and breadsticks in plastic wrapping. My date had the spaghetti and I've made better with boxed spaghetti and a jar of ragu. Never again

Hidden Gem

We accidentally found Villa Mosconi several months ago. The food is delicious, service is great and the portions are huge! It's the best Italian restaurant we have found in the city! We visit often!

Our go-to Old-Style Italian in the Village

By Tim S |

My wife and I have been going to Villa Mosconi for almost thirty years. We used to live in NY so it used to be often, no that we live elsewhere, it's only when we visit NYC. The place never changes and that's a very good thing indeed. Big portions of Italian classics done consistently and well every time! Prices are reasonable for food and wine. It was great seeing some of the same wait staff there that we saw the first time we ever came. Unfortunately, with time, more and more are gone. If you love classic Italian dishes in a non-pretentious environment, this is the place!

Mother & daughther night out

The restaurant has a nice vibe of italian culture. In true italian fashion we were welcomed as if we were family and the staff attentively catered to our requests. The food was delicious with generous portions. Looking forward to our next visit.
