We visited last week as a family of 3. Upon arrival, we were the front of house lady (we didn't get her name but she was very bubbly and always had a huge smile). She handed us over to Brandon and our night just got better and better. Brandon gave us a wealth of advice on the menu, made great recommendations and told us about the days specials. Made out choices difficult, because it all sounded great. The food when it arrived was cooked to perfection, the brisket especially was divine (it all was to die for). Brandon kept checking up to make sure our drinks were full and our food was to standard. He was so attentive. It's rare you find a server who genuinely cares about your evening. We had a little game, he tried to work out which celebrities we all looked like. One of our group was Demi Moore. Im still waiting to know which one I look like đ . So great food, even better service and the most memorable evening during our NYC trip. Thank you Virgils and a huge thank you to Brandon. Hope to see you on next year's trip. Daniel, Briony and Sarah.

Great experience! The menu offered many options and they all sounded good. We ordered the brisket which was tender, juicy and delicious! Service was outstanding. The topper for me was the Lone Star Beer. Hard to find in most of the country. I had a few and loved it. Suggest making a reservation for an evening seating. It is located in the theatre district so it was crowded at 6:15. We reserved ahead of time and only had to wait 10 minutes. Canât wait to go back next time in the city.

Practical location and easy to get a table - if you make a reservation. Friedly staff provide a fast service of the well prepared tasty dishes (ribs, brisket).

Fabulous service, even though they were really busy! The food was excellent, and certainly plentiful. Beyond our expectations. Would happily recommend this restaurant! Cannot wait for my next visit.

This restaurant was directly across the street from my hotel...so it was convenient to go to before the show I was going to. Briscut was great, tasty...over whelmed with food choices... But everything was excellent.

Awesome BBQ. I've been a fan of Virgil's for over 25 years. I bring friends every time and they all come back on their own. Best brisket and ribs...plus amazing cornbread.

Incredible food, even better service. Especially my man Augusto - funny, kind, prompt service. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Outstanding food! I know it sounds odd - New York City for BBQ. You go to NYC for the great delis, Italian food, Chinese food, street food, pubs - you go to Texas and Memphis and Kansas City for BBQ. But Iâm telling you: Virgilâs is worth your visit. Inside and outside seating. Sit at the bar, a high top or a regular table. Big menu! Good variety of BBQ - ribs, chicken, seafood and more. Usually I would NOT order Texas chili. I like my own recipe and I donât want to chance harsh seasonings or âheatâ. Virgil knows good chili. Meaty! Good portion so that youâve got room for ribs! I had the Memphis style ribs - the rub was excellent. Ribs perfectly prepared. I heard a lady next to me complain: âNot much meat on these ribsâ and they may have been a bit skinny but you can order more. Great taste! Ribs come with cornbread and two sides. The cornbread is sort of like a muffin but not and while the taste was okay - definitely cornbread - itâs nothing to boast about. For the sides - how you gonna count calories without eating Brussels sprouts (nope). I opted for Cole slaw - probably the least caloric acceptable side and it was okay. But then - knew I shouldnât - I went for the Mac and cheese and itâs 5 star! Perfect! But fattening. One of the most satisfying meals Iâve had in NYC or anywhere. I donât recall that it was expensive - but itâs NYC and everything is expensive. Donât come if youâre counting pennies. Sorry - come. Itâs NYC and worth it. Calories included.

I asked for the lunch menu and ordered the pulled pork sandwich from the lunch menu while pointing at it. Its about 14 dollars. The waitress said you donât have the big menu is that okay? I said yes and ordered from the lunch menu while pointing at it. It was the only menu I had. Later the bill came at 20 something per person and she said because I said pulled pork sandwich she gave me the main menu one. I told her I was pointing at the lunch menu which was the only one I had. She said that was why she was confused yet she did not clarify with me which one she thought it was. Obviously I was pointing at and holding the lunch menu so what could I be referring to? Sounds like a deliberate ploy to charge the more expensive item. After some arguing she agreed to charge the lunch menu price. But it was so unpleasant. I should not have to state âpulled pork sandwich from lunch menuâ while pointing at the lunch menu the only menu I had. So anyone eating here beware. They lure you in with a less expensive lunch menu but try to charge you the expensive items.

Great food, great staff, amazing restaurant. Thank you for two unforgettable dinners during our stay in the city that never sleeps đ. Greetings from Italy

Had a great time!! Everyone was so friendly. Food was excellent. The ribs and brisket were delicious. Best frozen margarita Iâve had

The place is nice and close to Times Square, you eat classic American cuisine and it's pretty good. The price is high but we are in NY.

Virgilâs is an institution in NY. You don't have to worry about the amount of sauce đđđ„©đ„«and the very generous portions. Fast and nice service, smiling and friendly staff.

We initially tried to eat at Carmines, but this was fully booked. The manager recommended we visit their sister restaurant, Virgils, where he promised we would be seated immediately. This was only a 2 minute walk, so we headed there. Upon arrival, we were told our table would be 5 minutes and to go and sit at the bar for a drink while we waited. This was fine. When we all sat at the bar, we were barked at by the bar tender. Unbeknown to us, if you're under the age of 21, this is not allowed. We had our 15 year old with us. Had we known he would not have sat there, but the bar tenders manners, and the way he spoke to us was shocking. He was again rude to my wife when paying for the drinks. Our waitress, Clare, who was superb. She was polite and couldn't do enough for us. Unfortunately, the food was on par with the bar tender. The steak in the sandwich I ordered was 50% fat. What steak was there was actually very tasty. Unfortunately, my son spent most of that evening vomiting his meal back up. Personally, I would avoid.

A place to eat the legitimate American barbecue meat, with spectacular accompaniments and dishes at a fair price and well served. Donât forget to taste the pork, the Cole Slaw and the Mac & Cheese. All this while not only highlighting the beauty of the place.

Dreadful. Place was busy so we thought that was a good sign. Maybe we ordered wrong but the food was horrible, dried ribs and i dont know what the other dish was. The food if you can call it that arrives on a tin tray, the type you would expect to eat off if you were an inmate at Rikers Island, maybe Virgils have the catering contact there and the food got confused. This place totally relies on the foot traffic from timeâs square and does not care if the food tastes good or not. Avoid Avoid Avoid!

Had an amazing meal celebrating my partners birthday. Excellent service provided by "unique" our waitress. If your coming to Newyork and like bbq this is a must not far from times square and reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Always pleasant to go to this place even if very crowded. Service as always impeccable and a typical American place.

How not to try this BBQ in New York. Typical American local Yankee atmosphere with the various screens broadcasting sports. We took their mixed BBQ really a goodness. Meat cooked to perfection with a cabbage base and a fabulous jalapeno sauce

I haven't been to a BBQ place before so I can't rate it against others but I can say we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of us had the Ribs and they are definitely tripple the size of UK ribs, I got the half rack of ribs and should of got the quarter. I had Mac and cheese and mash potato and gravy as the sides and it didn't disappoint. Our server Unique was super friendly and we have a great time. Prices for the half rack and 2 sides was just under 38 dollars and we took what we didn't eat home in a Doggy bag!

My Family and I had Cristmas dinner there. The waiter was kind, helpful and fast with the orders. We ordered Nachos BBQ as Starter and The Pig Out! as Main Course. There was two delicious dishes that can easily serve more than 4 people. If you want to had Cristmas Dinner there, I suggest you to do reservation as soon as possible because itâs so requested.

The food was good our server was amazing she gets 5 stars but there was a gentleman at the front while we were waiting to be seated and he was extremely rude to my son and seemed to be rude and have a attitude with other staff members a shame as the food was ok but I would t come back

My whole experience here was fab from the moment I walked in, they team got a table sorted for me as I was on my own and then within 30mins or less I had my food and a drink! Food was amazing and considering how busy it was being Christmas Day, everyoneâs was in high spirits and happy which was an added bonus as I know it can be stressful and demanding on the staff during busy times.

Pretty good for BBQ in NYC! Our tour group had reservations before seeing a Broadway show and we were seated upstairs. Food was served family style. Great hush puppies and wings. The brisket was delicious as were the sides of baked beans, potato salad, macaroni and cheese and cornbread. The banana pudding was tasty. Staff was friendly if not a bit harried because it was quite crowded, warm, and noisy. If youâre looking for barbecue in the heart of the city, give it a try.

My best friend and I have been coming to Virgilâs for almost twenty years and since the place practically opened back in 1994. I have seen and experienced the ups and downs of the service and food but today was one for the books. I ordered a Coke and one of the lunch specials with Pigs in a Blanket and pulled Pork with Mac & Cheese and my best friend had an order of Chicken Wings. They have changed the menu and the only wings order had four wings. My friend was disappointed but sum till enjoyed her lunch. I had the Pigs in the Blanket, which are mini hot dogs in puff pastry and then had the Pull Pork topped Mac & Cheese which was good but not great. I also enjoyed my meal. It was the service that was off. I had to ask the waiter to bring a refill of a Coke three times, then he brought me a seltzer, they brought a sandwich to the table instead of the Mac & Cheese and I know the scooped the Mac & Cheese and then popped the pulled pork on that and then he kept disappearing on ourselves and the table next to us that wanted refills on their drinks and never got turn. It was a mess. I tipped accordingly (ten percent) and we left. I was a little disappointed with this trip to Virgilâs.

We had a Beef Brisket andcmy wife took the catfish grilled and everything was excellent ! We liked it very much and recomand Virgils bbq

Hadnât been here in over 10 years. Still fantastic. Super lovely and energetic. Make a reservation! Service was spotty on a crazy Starryâs night just before Christmas. The food is amazing. The pig out is superb. Ribs, brisket, everything!. Sadly lost the photo of the food.

Exceptional! The staff is so good and makes you feel like youâre home away from home. Great prices and the buttermilk biscuits deviled eggs! So good. TVs all around to catch those big games. Cozy vibes! Also the margaritas are top notch! Will be back đ«

Good choices and good food. Nothing fancy but BBQ with meats tender and with good flavor (e.g., pork sandwich and chicken). The sides, like mac and cheese, grits, and Brussel sprouts also quite tasty. Service attentive. Easy to find in the Times Square area and quick routine.

Great place. Friendly with the added quality of service and food. To do again without hesitation. I recommend the Ribs. A massacre.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!!! I GOT INTOXICATED with shrimp pop with!!! I ended up in Lenox Hospital!!! After being treated by 911 ambulance, leaving the restaurant on the street (CVS) After 10 - 15 minutes leaving the restaurant!

We have never been disappointed in our means at Virgilâs! The food is consistently great and the service even better! Our server, Brandon, was excellent! He has waited on us before and was so good we remembered him. I asked about possible fish dishes and he let me know grilled catfish was available today - it was cooked to perfection. The prices are even reasonable for the city

The hostess was giving out samples of the brisket with the mango jalapeño bbq sauce. The brisket was good so I went back for dinner after the theater. The hostess recognized me from earlier and welcomed me. I ordered the brisket dinner with brussel sprouts and Mac and Cheese. The home made pickles helped cut through the richness of the brisket. Portions were good but some of my pieces of brisket were a bit on the dry side. I also like the location as it was very close to my hotel. If I were to go back I would try the trash bag ribs on the starter menu.

As the title, it was not this mystical experience we expected, the meat presented was acceptable, like cocktails, nothing more. The waiter got the order wrong twice.

Typical American restaurant. The service was fast and the staff were smiling. The presentation of the dishes correct. We have eaten well.

Incredible place. I've followed Fabio from Dicas Nova York and I orderer the "chef's gift" for having a free extra lunch. David attended us during our stay (two couples) and he was such a nice waiter explaining all the options and types of food. All lunch are well-designed and two people can eat a single option. We've orderer BBQ Nachos and Texas Beef Brisket and four people have eaten very well.

Pre theater dinner. During Happy Hour but they donât honor HH pricing unless youâre at the bar or a high top by the bar. Manager wouldnât make an exception. All my wife wanted was a couple of pulled pork tacos but had a buy a dinner salad with protein. My brisket was practically inedible - 80% fat. Iâm used to lean Midwest BBQ brisket with a 1/4â smoke ring. The BBQ beans were pretty good and the coleslaw was excellent. The cornbread has some weird greens baked into it (sadly not jalapeños like I anticipated) and literally had no flavor - not even a hint of corn. Not a good dinner.

Lovely food , Great service and I very much recommend the steak and the ribs. Second one of these weâve been too and both were excellent!

Really overrated! After reading the reviews we were really disappointed about the food. We ordered the Texas Brisket and a pulled chicken sandwich. The brisket was dry and not at all as I expected it to be. The chicken came in a burger bread, not a sandwich and the chicken was also dry. Overall not worth it!

Virgil's is pretty ok but that's about it. The moment you step in, it looks like a cosy country style restaurant. But when they bring you to your table it immediately starts to feel like a huge factory. Ordering happens really quick and they want to make it move forward... make your choice asap. Drinks come really quick and afterwards right away the food. The food tastes ok, but the sides are pretty poor. Coleslaw is exteremy sweet, mac and cheese way too salty... The meat itself is ok, but there are many other placed to eat much better brisket or any other bbq roasted meat. Nevertheless, it tasted ok... but when you get your bill, it becomes super expensive for what you got. Also, paying with your mastercard means you need to give your card with them and it took almost 15mins to get it back. As European visitors, this feels really weird as we are used to never give your credit card to somebody. Virgil's was an ok experience for us but not to go back... price too high for what you get, quality ok-ish and especially the atmosphere wasn't superb.

Visited while in New York food was pretty good but it is pricey but then again it is in Time Square....just beware if you order the large draught beer it's probably the size of a Stein and not a UK pint so expect the price to match the size.

Excellent dinner at this beautiful property near Times Square. The service is fast and correct. The dishes are really hearty. Special mention for slices of beauf with french fries.

The restaurant is located just off Times Square and there is a welcoming atmosphere as you enter. The staff are excellent. Sandra made us feel very welcome and always had a smile. Frequented this establishment a couple of times during our trip because of the relaxed atmosphere amongst the hustle and bustle of the New York City. The food was excellent and we also had drinks at the bar good all round.

While you won't be able to eat it all, the Pig Out is not to be missed. Just be prepared to take home what you can't finish. The other treats that we love are the hush puppies and the batter fried onion rings. The only disappointment this time around was the banana pudding that I ordered for dessert - I expected a vanilla pudding with bananas in it and what I got was some soft banana slices with a lot of whipped cream. Next time, the pecan pie, never disappointing.

Wow where to begin first of all our server David was absolutely amazing so friendly and chatty his customer service is outstanding. The food was absolutely amazing if youâre in New York put Virgilâs at the top of your list for dining out you wonât regret it. We visited for our daughterâs birthday in June and David had a cake with a candle and got the whole restaurant to sing happy birthday, heâs an amazing person. If you see this David thank you for your service

Tasty food. Felt authentic to a point. Staff were friendly & very helpful. Itâs just off Times Square but donât let that put you off we enjoyed it.

First time in this restaurant and very pleasant surprise. Excellent welcome, friendly and efficient staff. Nice surprise for each dish, there were 4 of us. Very good and very generous, typically American style dish. I highly recommend. To do

We saw this restaurant option on the "ny tips" profile and went to check it out and we liked it so much that we went again the other day. We made a reservation on the website the first time, but the second time we forgot and went straight, but it wasn't full and we arrived and sat down. The food is served very quickly too! Waiters are very friendly, the food is really wonderful, the meat is delicious!!! The dish we ordered served the 3 of us, it was a combo with 3 types of meat and side dish, we spent $94, I thought it was really worth the value for money. We also ordered mac and cheese on the side and everyone loved it! I'll be back there for sure!

Worst waiter ever didnât make eye contact with us gave us no information. I think he needs to find another job because he was just awful.

We really liked the concept and the food. Good service, welcoming location even in Times Square. We will be back on our next visit to New York.

It's a typically American place, we ate very well. The fried onion rings are delicious (one for two because the dishes are very generous), the pulled pork is good, smoked but quite spicy (I like it, but perhaps they should write it on the menu) because not everyone likes it. The staff is very kind and friendly, the prices are quite high but on average for NY clubs, there are no places that are cheap. I advise.

We were excited to eat here after being recommended however it didnât meet our expectations. Ordered wings to start by received something different so returned it. Our starters came but so do our mains! Explained we wanted our starters first which were bbq wings and these were really nice. We shared a platter but fries were come so returned our meal, meal came out again and fries were still cold so returned again. Meal was average was offered a dessert so ordered key lime pie but only one slice, lol! Staff and manager were lovely and helpful. Manager give us a ticket for a free drink for next time however we didnât return.

I went unpretentiously. I liked it. Good food. Beer (always good to rate) frozen and tailored. Very good music (country music live). Don't rush. It's worth it

We looked for this restaurant based on the Trip reviews and it was a huge disappointment. Horrible food, terrible presentation. Dry and tough meat served on a terrible-looking tray. Very bad service and price much higher than what they deliver. My family and I thought it was a terrible experience and we do not recommend it!

Friendly. Comfortable. Delicious. Great price in the middle of the theater district. We enjoyed everything about Virgilâs Real BBQ.

The food was absolutely amazing â full of flavor and perfectly prepared. A special thank you to Augusto for his outstanding service. He was attentive, friendly and made our visit truly unforgettable.

Quick and nice service, we went there around 21:30 and no reservation done. Good food (pork ribs/chicken and potatoes of the house). Lots of people but not noisy and with a lovely atmosphere. I really suggest it!

Those visiting NY should definitely dine here. Savor the true American vibe. Exceptional BBQ ribs and chicken. Average price. I recommend booking online because very crowded

We were seated right away (4 adults and 3 children) at a spacious table. We shared a combination of.. 3 ribs, brisket and (?) it was enough for 2 of us and had sides. (The best value on the menu). Although it wasnât piping hot it was understandable as this place is busy! Word must be out that it is the most reasonably priced place for good food in the area! Our server Jonathan was friendly, attentive and quick. If youâre familiar with NYC pricing you will find this place one of the best for the (reasonable) prices and good barbecue.

No soup in their menu. Ordered the popcorn shrimp. Good flavor but really meant to be an appetizer. Skipped the main dish...

Great food Great ambiance Great service Nevers seems to disappoint. Dinosaur bbq not only has the right recipe for food but welcoming their customers. Every server was friendly and smiling.

Had a big sharing BBQ plate on the whole was pretty good. Brisket was great - have had better chicken. Sides were all very tasty. Service was friendly and good with the kids.

Very deceiving from the outside. I only had the opportunity to dine downstairs. I ordered the fried chicken with Mac and cheese, greens and potato salad. The chicken was fried amazingly; didnât taste any distinct flavors but the skin was crispy and wonderful. The Mac and cheese was creamy but not watery it was very good. The greens were a lot bit crunchy for me but they had good flavor. The potato salad was good but definitely had a mustard / dill undertone. Overall my first impression was great. Although besides the waiters and the young ladies at the front no one greeted me like the other tables but thatâs ok. I still had a very decent portion for my choices.

If you want to have a typical American dinner you are in the right place! Large and delicious burgers and lots of tasty meat with great beer

The ribs are fabulous, another year we went and grilled orders to share among everyone and already I did not like that., the place is very cool, very typical. I'd come back.

Visited on Xmas day on our recent trip to NY. Servers were pleasant and welcoming. Our starter was delayed so was taken off the bill and lots of apologies offered. Doesnât look the most welcoming from the outside but definitely worth a visit

The atmosphere was nice and the only positive about the restaurant. The food was overpriced and subpar. Service was also poor.

Loved this place! It was so busy but the food came out pretty quickly and the atmosphere was amazing! The food was INCREDIBLE. So glad we found this place on our visit to NYC

Had a fantastic experience, food and drinks were great and our server James was just brilliant! Would definitely recommend!

I am embarrassed that I too come from this industry after the experience I had at this establishment. Upon arrival, I was greeted properly, but after requesting to sit upstairs, I had to wait a few minutes, which wasn't an issue. While waiting, a guest fell from the second floor to the bottom of the stairs on the first floor, which got the attention of several staff and guest, just to make sure she was ok. This is normal, but that's not my service issue. Upon being seated, there were guest complaining about the service from the server, Livia. After hearing of their dissatisfaction, I was hoping that she wouldn't be my server. I should have rolled the dice and prayed, but she ended up being my server. I waited for 7 minutes just to be greeted. (Same issues from the table next to me and her not checking on them. They actually took pictures, which signified their disgust). Ms. Livia was not very friendly, didn't smile and appeared to be overwhelmed just looking at the tables that she had and hearing of their issues. None of my request were honored and they were just simple (sugar packets since she said the lemonade was very tart and some bread). I asked the busser a question about the menu and he shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know. Clearly there wasn't a menu test in place since he couldn't answer a simple question. A food runner brought my food and you guessed it, Livia had not visited my table to check on me or bring anything to the table. All of her tables had the expression of disgust except one. Clearly she was overwhelmed and couldn't handle her tables. After waiting a while, I requested to go containers. I refused to eat in the restaurant and experience such poor service. I ended up asking a question to Livia about my service and she swatted her hand and walked off. That's what did it for me. I typically wouldn't write a review being in the industry, but it's this type of service that needs to be brought to the attention of management so that it can be addressed. Livia should be thankful that I am not the General Manager Or Owner of this establishment because she would have been asked to clock out and pick up her last check at the end of the week. Well, I would have given her a 2-table section if this was her first infraction. I walked back to my hotel to eat my food because I didn't want to sit there and be mistreated. The unsung heroes in this matter is the manager Austin who assisted in bringing to go containers and offering support for my experience and also, Lauren who was the manager who closed out the ticket and extended an invite to return to give them another try and assured me that this is not their standard. This restaurant came highly recommended by the hotel and a friend who frequents the area. Well, being in the industry I do encourage guest to give restaurants another opportunity to correct the matter. If Livia was trained, she didn't retain the information and just industry standards or properly greeting guest timely, offering menu suggestions, two bites and back to the table to check on guest concept, etc was omitted in her 5-star service standard. My purpose for writing is not to deter guest, but a coaching moment for those who are in the industry and to as for guest patience when possible. As I always say, this is the hospitality industry and not the hostility industry. My dear Livia, let's take a moment to review your actions and ensure going forward that your goals align with company standards and move forward with providing excellent service to guest. As I sit in my room eating the food, it is good and I do recommend a visit to enjoy the fish, ribs, baked beans and the lemonade. Respectfully submitted. R. Woods

Very good bbq, lovely atmosphere/vibe and good food in an easy to find location just off Times Square.

Bait and switch tactics. Happy hour prices not honored if you are sitting at a table and paying for dinner. You have to be at the bar.

Having just disembarked from JFK, we set off straight for Times Square and its magic and, due to the time difference, a little hungry and tired. We return by chance to Virgil's and Ă divine surprise, a real American restaurant to start the stay off right. Relaxed but professional welcome, busy room but we were found a table immediately. The menu is âtypicalâ with the specialty being house-smoked ribs which are to die for. A little glass of Cabernet to accompany them and it's a little moment of happiness before going to get a few hours of sleep and attack our New York marathon :)

Best BBQ I have ever had. The brisket sandwich was amazing and really juicy. There is no reason not to try it. âââââ- 10/10

Very good and the servers are very attentive Excellent experience as a couple I recommend Don't hesitate to really go there

I was in this casual place for dinner, during my stay in America. The meat was great, maybe slightly down with salt, I'm talking about both the famous bbq ribs and pulled pork (very tender). The side dishes did not convince me, starting with corn bread ending with toasted rice... I would recommend instead as a side dish the pure or mashed potatoes with gravy, which would be the typical sauce to eat with mashed potatoes. Overall good, but I expected better.

We had an amazing dinner there, portions are huge so we 2 women shared it and the husband did his selve a huge steak, good for him đ€Ł. Food was great as was the service!

I canât give enough of an applause for this establishment. The smell has the wow factor when you walk in. The service is quick and friendly the food especially the Wings are delicious and makes you want more and more.

Characteristic and very comfortable place and great music. Very friendly staff and fair waiting times. The quality of the steak was superb as was the salad with three types of meat. Excellent choice and taste of beers. Very generous portions (thank goodness). Price normal. Not to be missed.

I wanted to have dinner at this place. I booked in time ... too bad that at the last minute they told me that due to the high turnout they decided to cancel the reservation by proposing their other Carlitoâs place that I also know and is not a good place at all. Given the total absence of professionalism that should be in the first place for those who run a restaurant business (and I know a few things considering that I work in the field having 3 restaurants) I would advise against this place. Avoid it!!!!

Great Atmosphere, Great Food, Reasonably priced, Troy our server was full of life and so helpful, very attentive, A spot to visit

I love the both of the pork and chicken skewers! The staffs were great and friendly, and they also have gluten free menu which is good for my mom! My family had a really good time at Vigil's.

Squeezed onto a tight table (we had made reservations). Server was OK but attitude changed at the end when I wouldnât just give him my bank card to take away to pay for the meal and insisted on going with him to do it. Then seemed to get the hump that my (22%) tip was cash. Food was average at best. Chicken dish literally had grease trickling out of it. Brisket was chewy and gristly - should just melt after 12-14 hours in a smoker. Beer was nice. Location is good. Wouldnât recommend.

We had lunch 2 times during our stay in New York. Very nice restaurant , American style setting. Excellent choice of meat and also quality we opted for pulled pork and Texas smoked brisket. The first day instead also for ribs.Really good. Recommended for those in New York and not looking for the usual hamburgers with chips.

Excellent I recommend this establishment! Cozy environment, lovely food! Live country music. We're in New York for the second time and it's always nice to come back to this place

Popped in here, mainly as there were no seats in the bar we were aiming for. Went in during Happy Hour, Adam our staff member looked after us incredibly well before handing over to Layla and her trainee (I want to say tito, but I know itâs wrong). As someone used to training people can i just say, I sat over two hours watching Layla train and mentor her student. She was excellent, and if I had the opportunity to employ her I would. The above is an additional observation, we were well looked after, drinks were great and the wings were amazing. Itâs our last day here but weâre probably heading back to make the wings our last meal before we leaveâŠ

The food was amazing and so was the dessert I remember people go to this restaurant in time square New York it has good house made cake a corn bread and all of there food is the best

Long-time local customer here, going back to the 1990's. Boy, has the food gone WAY downhill. The only things still good were the wings. Ribs were much smaller than in the past and the meat on them was HORRIBLY bone-dry. The smoked chicken - a VERY tiny breast quarter, was likewise, extremely dry. Neither had a great smoked flavor. The mac and cheese used to be so delicious, now it's a rather gluey mess. The $35.95 cost for that combo is obscene. My husband's catfish was kind of mushy (in other words, old). Cappuccino was lukewarm. Service was so-so, nothing great, nothing really bad. And the tip reflected that: not a great tip, or a bad tip, just a meh tip for meh service. They used to have waiters here that we saw every time we went, for years, and they were great. So very disappointed in our trip here. Will probably not be coming back after all these years. My sister mentioned that she wanted to have her son's upcoming college graduation party here in June for our whole family. I will convince her to look elsewhere. Shame on them for this travesty of a meal, and for getting away with this because they know tourists will flock to the place not matter what.

I took my wife to Virgil's for a Mother's Day dinner and we were both very happy with everything. Our server was friendly and helpful. I had the half rack of ribs with baked beans and collard greens, my wife had the Texas Brisket and Pulled Pork combo with potato salad and mashed potato. My ribs were dry rubbed and had a beautiful smoke ring and smoke flavor. They were nicely tender and juicy. My wife loved her brisket and pulled pork. My wife had the apple pie for dessert and I had the blueberry and peach cobbler, which had a nice, crispy topping while the filling was nicely tart as opposed to the sickeningly sweet ones I've had in other places. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that our table was on the far side of the staircase and we got an occasional draft from the front door.

If youâre looking for the comfort of southern hospitality and food like your Momma makes in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Times Square, you canât go wrong with Virgilâs. Brandon was a relatable, personal waiter who made the experience even better!

Dined here on our last night in NY, securing booking at the last minute, a family of five adultâs. Waiting staff were extremely helpful and ensured we had plentiful drinks whilst we explored the menu. All ordering different meals from the menu we found our meals to be tasty and huge - ribs, chicken wings, Mac &cheese salmon. Would highly recommend dining here, a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere.

What delicious food. We booked same day. The waitress was super lovely, really appreciated her celebrating my birthday. The bbq was mmm dreamy. We had brisket. Yummy.

Nice and busy restaurant. Helpful and friendly waiters. Prices in line with time square (high). The only flaw: our dishes were all super spicy and it wasn't indicated on the menu. My 13 year old daughter's sandwich was also very spicy and as a result she couldn't eat it. I had the chicken wings and those were also very spicy. I usually like spicy but those were just too much. Result: I didn't eat half the plate. My husband's brisket also had a very spicy sauce on it.

My wife and I went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a relative. From the start we were like family.... everyone was very kind and ready to "fulfill every wish" we took the homemade potatoes and trash ribs as starters....... the potatoes were delicious, the ribs were excellent and then a Virgil's burger. ... excellent meat .... the place is also beautiful and we were lucky to find a seat outside. Highly recommended

Friendly and noisy dinner at this New York BBQ restaurant. Guaranteed atmosphere in the room. Simple and hearty kitchen.

Flew in last night and needed a place for breakfast. Shared a Chefâs Favorite burrito and an order of pancakes. AMAZING!

Amazing food, we had the pig out platter which was incredible! Really enjoyed our dinner there and was great to be able to watch the NFL too. Pecan pie for desert was gorgeous. Our waiter couldnât have been more helpful, it was our first night in NYC and he gave so many helpful recommendations.

The food was great, authentic barbecue, and our server was friendly and attentive. We were not rushed. The prices are reasonable for NYC. Highly recommend. Great location for pre theater.

Who knew you find good BBQ in Times Square!! We were amazed at the quality of the food, friendliness of the staff and value!! Fun place to sit and get your fingers dirty!!! Our server, Qualai, who met us with a cheerful smile, made sure everything was to our expectations and checked in on us regularly and not making us feel like we needed to move along!! We'll be back!!

We were really looking forward to this night, we were not disappointed. The only downside was that the waiter was too keen to service us and we wanted to take our time. Nice atmosphere, lively but not too noisy. We had decided before we went to share the PIG OUT, our mistake was to order what was described as snack Hush Puppies, these were very nice but eight large finger sized hush puppies were not expected so we were already filling up. The PIG OUT was divine it came as 1/4 chicken, four slices of Brisket, four juicy ribs, pulled pork (my favourite), corn bread and came with two sides, I chose Mac and cheese and partner fries. This meal was so good but My partner stole most of the brisket! but plenty for two adults to eat. I would recommend you go here and give it a try.

+I had already made a reservation from Switzerland. The restaurant is really cool like in movies. We had a mega nice waiter who helped us a lot with the food.We had ordered a plate with everything on it and additionally a pullpork sandwich and chicken wings. Everything was very good really, the meat at the Spare Rips came off bones itself. - it could be a bit warmer the meat.

Delicious fresh food, huge portions, authentic and tasty. Mixed with well made cocktails. Very good value for quality, service and presentation.

I have been coming to Virgilâs since it opened back in 1995. The food and the service have always been consistent and I have never had a bad meal here. I took my best friend for a late lunch here for her birthday and the food and the service were wonderful as usual. We started off with a small order of the BBQ Wings which were perfectly cooked and spiced. The wings are really meaty and have a nice sauce that comes with them. For lunch, I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich, which I always enjoy. The pulled pork is always loaded high on the sandwich and has the sweet tang of the slowly cooked meat that just pulls apart. The Cole slaw was really good but I was really disappointed by the potato salad. It was just okay. I will order the fries the next time. My friend had the half rack of ribs and the looked really good. For a half rack of ribs, it was a nice portion size. I got to enjoy here corn bread and biscuits. For dessert, we shared the Banana Pudding, which is always wonderful. Layers of sweet pudding with slices of fresh banana is always a good choice and one of my favorite desserts. The service is always friendly and very engaging.

We have visited Virgil's in Times Square many times over the years: it has been a quick, informal, convenient and reliable joint for pre-theater barbecue dinners and decent drinks. It is large enough that it's usually not hard to secure a table, and the staff gets you in and out on time. We reserved a table for 6:30 p.m. last night (December 20), which is usually more than enough time to order an appetizer, ribs, and still make an 8:00 p.m. curtain. Times Square was mobbed with a Christmas crowd when we arrived at 6:20 p.m., and so was Virgil's. A multitude waiting outside in the cold while a single employee checked on reservations. She checked us in but said we had to wait outside. When asked what the problem was, she said that the restaurant had overbooked but that she had only been working there for one day and took no responsibility: this was "management's" decision. After about 20 minutes we were allowed inside to the bar. En route we checked in at the usual reception desk and were again told they had overbooked, but that staff "just work here" and took no responsibility. We said we had theater tickets and asked them to please alert us to our table's readiness. Staff made rounds periodically calling out, "Table for Mary" or some other attendee. We got drinks, repeatedly checking in every 10 minutes or so. At about 6:50 p.m., after repeated complaints, they seated us in the second floor dining room, saying "the staff upstairs will make it happen for you." The staff did no such thing. We managed to get an order of gloppy undercooked cold nachos while awaiting our ribs. Staff was friendly, said they understood our situation -- but the entrees never came. As curtain time approached, we finally gave up and went to our show. The floor manager apologized and did not charge us for the nachos, but this was a very disappointing experience. We never learned why management had (as all the staff told us) so overbooked on a crowded, pre-theater holiday evening. Follow-up: the undercooked nachos gave me indigestion.

Absolutely exceptional. We had the best night here, a genuinely American experience. Sitting on stools at the long bar while we waited for our table, chatting to locals, getting insider tips from real New Yorkers, having baseball explained. The barman giving us great drinks and food recommendations, everything was as Iâd imagined America to be. The food was incredible, huge portions, beautifully presented, and very tasty. The waiting staff were amazing, very insightful, superb knowledge and great fun. I would say this is an absolute âmust doâ on any visit to New York.

Came here after 5 years and the quality of the food went down tremendously. Brisket was dry, chicken tasteless, did not taste fresh. Disappointing that this great restaurant was at the quality of an Applebees.

For our last evening in New York , he was recommended to us by French compatriots. We are one lucky to have a very friendly and professional waiter extremely smiling. The dishes are very generous and good. Not too Rating. Lots of choices. All you can do is go.

Virgil's Real BBQ - NYC is a great place to try a real Southern-style barbecue. Ribs and Carolina Pulled Pork was great, the flavor of the smoke is perfect. Portion size is large, so it's good for the price. In the midst of the busy atmosphere of Times Square, the restaurant gives a relaxed vibe. Only the music was a little loud at times, everything else was great.

Such a great place. David was great server and recommended the baby ribs. They were so good. Enjoyed the place so much went for a second time.

Visited Virgilâs on a friends recommendation and was thoroughly dissatisfied at what we had their whist it was busy in the restaurant we did reserve a table and the server (Dave) was great throughout. The food was quite dry and tasteless and the pulled pork was very fatty in fact my girlfriend nearly chocked on it it was not enjoyable and even the women on next table left the majority of her food on the plate

Service cannot fault. One server training another but both super friendly and helpful. A little much on the up sell of the menu, but that's all in the usual of most NYC restaurants. Food was average smoked ribs etc. Have had better in other locations. Additionally all the food that arrived was luke warm. Now I'm not sure if that's home NYC serve the ribs, but even my mac and cheese was luke warm. My experience is of a bubbling hot mac and cheese that you have to resist the urge to eat or risk burning your mouth. We have 1 entree each and 1 drink each (2 bottles budwesier, 1 red wine and 1 pineapple juice) total bill not including tip was $150. Not one I would return to or recommend (despite it having been a recommendation to us) sorry Vergil's - needs a rethink in my opinion.

Expensive for what we got....a sandwich that was 85% fat. Bbq sauce too vinegary, others not much flavor, in our opinion. Ate here several years ago and loved it. Even came back on our next visit. So disappointed this time. Will no longer recommend this place. Service was great, though.

Husband and friend went for drinks two days ago and we thought the bill was high. Tonight husband and I went in for post-show drinks. We ordered 1 beer (fairly priced) and 3 scotches. Our bill came to a little over $80. When I checked the bill the scotches had been charged at $22 EACH - when we queried the bar tender, she checked the menu and, OOPS, weâd been OVERCHARGED $5 on EACH drink. No SORRY and the âtipâ is still expected. DISGRACEFUL đ€Ź

Very cool, a very interesting bar/restaurant for those who want to eat an American BBQ ... very interesting environment, the well-filled portions (like everything in NYC) and the very cool drinks. It is worth knowing this place

Typical restaurant without being a tourist trap! Well hidden in Time Square, great welcome, very good food and good value for money for New York which is a very expensive city at this level! We recommend!

It was super good!!! Real hamburgers and very filling!! Typical American setting. Don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed

Had a really great meal at VirgilâsâŠso glad we visited. Staff were so friendly and attentive, food was great and it was our daughterâs 22nd birthday so it was a lovely touch when the manager came out with a bowl of ice cream and the whole restaurant said happy birthday to her and clapped. It made her night. Definitely a place to visitâŠglad we booked and if we are ever back in Times Square we would come again.

Do not buy the lager, absolutely disgusting and served in a glass not suitable for alcohol not a proper pint pot. Food was OK but nothing special.

Great place for food, staff brilliant and good value for money. Frozen pina coladas were best drink of the trip. One wee issue as we were at a table near the door so really cold everytime it opened but we did get moved when we asked. Definitely recommend if you fancy a bit of bbq

Nice restaurant type US brasserie where the break feels good. A friendly menu to satisfy the whole table (no vegetables should not exaggerate either we are in the USA) in proportions however gargantuan! Vegans go your way! Super friendly staff despite the late hour and the world...

Dinner was OK, quite fatty so not my favourite. The real issue was the bill. We paid with a credit card and left a generous tip in cash. On return from our trip, we learned another tip was added to our credit card. That pure robbery. So suddenly our dinner ended up being a lot more expensive with 2 tips on tip of the meal

Virgilâs BBQ fails to justify its high prices. While the food quality is decent, itâs nothing exceptional, and the menu feels fairly standard for this type of restaurant. Portion sizes are good, but the overall value is lacking, especially considering there are better alternatives at more competitive prices. Additionally, the atmosphere and service do not make up for the cost. Itâs a reasonable option if budget isnât a concern, but for those seeking quality and value, this may not be the best choice.

A very nice comfortable place, the food is very rich and has a good menu to choose your favorite dish. It's good to be able to visit.

Service was great, price was high for the quality of the food. I ordered a chicken and rib platter with cornbread, potatoe salad and collard greens. The meat was very tender, cooked well but little to no seasoning, the same can be said for the crunchy collard greens and the grocery store deli potatoe salad. The restaurant was packed so I guess people actually like it but for me itâs a being there wish I hadnât of done that!!

Have been here multiple times over the years and always have a great experience. Food is delicious and staff friendly.

Horrible Experience and Virgil's Customer Service twice has ignored a reach out to them. As a holiday tradition our family and friends have gone to Virgil's for 30+ years before going to a Broadway Show. Dinners and service has been very good until now. Our brisket was so greasy that it soaked the bread it was on, and we had to scrape the bread off the meat. The collard greens, usually a favorite of ours, looked like a ball of overcooked green mush. The cornbread was so dry that when tapping it on the plate, it just crumbled. My husband tried the chicken for the first time, and it was dry. There were no bbq sauces on the table and had to run down a waiter to get them to bring it to us. To eat his chicken my husband had to smother it in bbq sauce. He never got his second side. We were absolutely shocked. Virgil's must now be under new management, to have this dramatic of a turn in quality. Also shocked that no one from customer service responded to our two complaints. A 30-year tradition has ended.

To flee!!! Very disappointed, the Margarita some kind of $15 alcoholic orange juice, dishes served cold. Nothing to do with dallas bbq that we had done 2 days before.

Given the positive reviews we decided to go to this place for a dinner. Local cold, chaotic and average food, unfortunately I would not return. Quality price we are not there.

The absolute worse meal Iâve ever had. Valentineâs eve with my wife after arriving in town from Chicago. We stopped by for dinner and spent the next 2 days in the bathroom at our hotel from food poisoning!! Inexcusable!! Donât waste your time or money at this place!

We ordered a dish for 2 people and it was still too hearty. It was good overall except for the chicken which was of poor quality but too fat and too salty. Lots of music and noise on the ground floor, we were able to have a table upstairs, fortunately! The service was perfect

Excellent dinner close to Times Square! We had a great time in this restaurant: the welcome was warm, the service efficient and attentive. The meal was really delicious. We took a dish for two to 70 dollars, excellent and extremely hearty â more than enough for two people with a very good value for money. The location is great, right next to Times Square. I highly recommend

Canât wait to visit Virgilâs again on our next trip to NYC. The team is absolutely fantastic and the manager incredibly helpful. I suffer from gluten sensitivity and food allergies, and the team was able to support me in navigating through the menu and enjoy a lovely dinner! The food was an absolutely gorgeous, staff incredibly helpful and lovely. It was a pleasure to dine there.

Went for Thanksgiving with family. The food taste like it been sitting all day. The mac&cheese was burnt and other sides were cold. Felt like they were just rushing thanksgiving crowd.

Although the place was completely packed (we were there on Christmas Eve), the service was quick, cheerful and helpful. It was an absolute pleasure, thank you very much!

Below 1 Order #34363556927062016 I am very dissapointed in an order I placed today. I specifically put in comments to make the Ribs and Chicken well done. Well the In sides of both meats were burgundy. I ordered a Cornbread with maple syrup as the description, I received corn bread with broccoli, which was gross. I am very dissapointed and will never order from this place again. $51.00 Money wasted.

If Take-out delivery/ catering service is a representation of what you will be served In-House. I strongly suggest otherwise

Had 1/4 rack of ribs. They were the worst ribs I have ever had. They were one big chunk of fat. Four others people had same fatty ribs. Will never go there again. Not worth the trip people

This is literally the worst tasting BBQ I have ever had in my life. I grew up in NC and now live in Texas so I have been spoiled my whole life with absolutely delicious BBQ. So comparing it to the gold standards this BBQ fell flat. I wasnât even planning on getting BBQ on this trip being this is NY and as far as I know NY isnât known for BBQ but my family insisted on it. I was right. The potato salad has big potato chunks which I didnât like. If you are not familiar with classic BBQ then you will be fine but if you are BBQ connoisseur you may want to instead go eat items that NY is known for.

Excellent surf and turf and corn bread. Service amazing, would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant, our waitress was brilliant.

Recommended by an Italian blogger, great choice. Good dishes, interesting, typical and cozy place. Friendly staff. Adequate prices, from Italian Recommendation a dish in two... are plentiful

We chose this place near Times Square guided by reviews for a family dinner (4 people). We booked through very convenient app and on arrival we had a nice table available. Atmosphere of the local not great chairs and tables clearly provide the idea of the âtoo livedâ. We ordered a cut of beef , two chicken fried and a sandwich with various side dishes (fries, vegetables baked potatoes). Cuisine that I would call good although very spicy especially in the side dishes. Water and 2 beers to complete a dinner not cheap ($150 without considering the tip) .., I would say not exciting overall

Good and typical American steakhouse. Excellent portions and good food. A stone's throw from Times Square. The staff were kind and welcoming

An address that we love. This is our 3rd time in NY and each time we go to Virgils for dinner. This year we went there twice and it was great. It's typical, it's good and plentiful. The only problem remains the welcome at the entrance, for the rest go there with your eyes open and your stomach not too full!

Booked ahead and was still asked to wait for a table with no drinks offered. Food was very quick and nice. It was clear from others, service was not fantastic as people were not leaving tips and being called out for it. However, nice setting and our food and service was good.

We had eaten at Virgilâs several times over the years, always found it to be an oasis of barbecue in the middle of Manhattan. But this time was different. The brisket sandwich was greasy, no smoke flavor in the meat, and at least three-fourths of each slice was pure fat. We live in Kansas City and know barbecue, and even Arthur Bryantâs (known for its not-so-lean beef) never served up anything this greasy. Staff and management were properly apologetic and even comped the sandwich, but that doesnât do anything for the rest of the meat back in the kitchen waiting to come out. Lovely waitress, of course we tipped on the full amount, but would have preferred to pay full price and get a good meal. Next time, back to the deli!

Cool atmosphere, great waiters and the best ribs I've ever eaten! Absolutely recommended for anyone who likes good BBQ.

We had reservations but our tour finished early so they took us early. We used to live in Memphis, so this type of bbq is my favorite! Great service and delicious food.

To best conclude our stay in New York, we decided to have dinner at this property (previously searched at this application). First tip: it is best to book as the place is located in Times Square and is always very crowded (at all hours). We had a barbecue for two accompanied by two side dishes. What about it? Super good! We struggled to finish it but the quality of the meat was unsurpassed. The staff is super friendly and tries to help you in your choice, advising you at best to live a 360-degree experience. We were really pleased. Super good and super cute atmosphere with the wooden pralines that lined the interior walls of the building. We recommend it!!!

We turned up here on St Paddy's Day celebrations in Times Square. I had been to Virgils 20 years ago and told my colleagues that whilst it's in the heart of touristy Times Square, the food is good, and it was. We all had salad, which was HUGE. I loved it so much, but the sweet tea got me. A few days later, I arrived with another colleague. I ordered the sweet tea and weekday lunch special, which was about $18. It came with chicken, ribs, corn bread, and 2 sides: I chose collard greens and mac and cheese. And of course, a sweet tea. My friend went a la carte and barely ate half of what was served. Portions are MASSIVE. It's Gabby that made the experience nice. Friendly, professional, down to earth and honest. I'll be back in August when I return for work and I can't wait.

The food was fantastic with a great service. The team was very happy to guide us through the menu. I must say the Brisket and the Ribs are a must try. Even though it is a steak house, I must say one needs to try the Salmon. Will definitely come back again before leaving NYC.

Food, service, atmosphere was all on point. The staff were brilliant and fun. The food was yummy and plentiful and the atmosphere was full of happy people. Great place to visit and would highly recommend the ribs đ«¶. We all loved it there.

My partner wanted some decent brisketâŠ.well this didnât disappoint! We had the sharer which was $80 for 2 people with 2 sides! All the meat was delicious, loads of food! Service was great! Make sure you book as itâs a busy spot!

What a great food and what a friendly staff. Finally a restaurant where the service is really friendly. My daughter had ordered dessert which she couldn't finish anyway. Wasn't charged as a service. Thanks for the service Sam.

Our best meal in NYC on our 5 day stay, absolutely loved it and would recommend you try. For the location and portion size value was excellent

Located in the immediate vicinity of Time Square, it is a very large venue on two surfaces with many seats. American gastronomic proposal mainly meat and fried. Very large portions : in fact with 1 portion eat 2 people. Average/high prices Rude waiters: in the end they demanded the highest percentage tip. For this vile gesture I would not go back!

And to think that we thought it was too commercial because it was close to Times Square. It turned out to be a discovery! Fabulous BBQ ribs, pure burgers and chips, great Tacos, more than decent ConeyIsland Draft beer and very normal prices. Obviously all American food with some exotic dishes, we tried the Tacos (good). The only restaurant we went back to 2 times in eight days! The staff was very kind. It has two large rooms and in the lower one the music is often very loud

We visited twice during our 7 day stay to NYC.. The food was excellent, portion size generous and the cocktails divine. The atmosphere was great would definitely recommend to friends, family and anyone else visiting.

Great meal, really good food. Nice margaritas too. Took me a while to choose from the menu, as I wanted all of it! Family meal, we had burgers, steaks & shrimp, and kids chicken & Mac n cheese. Great portion sizes, good value and fun atmosphere. Glad I got to pick 2 sides from the choices, as I got mash & gravy & Mac n cheese, both were yummy.

Delicious meat, truly special. The best brisket I've ever eaten. Fast service, friendly staff. Prices are normal considering the high quality of the meat and the abundance of dishes. Highly recommended

I was there a few weeks ago at the bar and had Memphis Jamal!!!!! He was great!!! Attentive and very hospitable; I can tell he was a southerner like myself. I greatly appreciate meeting him and his drinks and attitude was amazing. Great hire right there guys. Coming from Atlanta I'll definitely tell my buddies & business associates to go here and ask for Jamal Houston.

My favorite place for pre-theater dining. Smack in the middle of the thater district in NYC. The bbq is excellent and the service is fast and friendly.

Visited after recommendation and was not disappointed. Being so near Times Square thought it would be a little hype, but service was great, and the food was so good. We have the combo with added chicken wings, with a side of brussels and mac and cheese. The brisket and ribs were fantastic. Definite go back to place.

The portion sizes were very good and it was nice to try some authentic BBQ food. Our server Joshua was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed.
There are better choices in the theatre district.
Disappointing experience. My friend and I both ordered hamburgers, medium rare, with tomato slices and cooked onions (not raw ones). The hamburgers came medium, no tomato and raw onions! Ultimately they brought the tomato slices but no onions. No real apology either.
