Great old time down-and-dirty diner. Great service. Great prices. Great food. We really got a kick out of the place and our experience there

Headed here on our first day in New York, as it was just around the corner from where we were staying. We were looking for an "Italian American" diner and on line this seemed to be just the place to eat. This place is really more Greek than Italian, but offers both dishes. I found the staff were not particularly welcoming and the food was fine, but nothing special. I felt that the regular customers eating there were looked after far better than a first time dining group. I don't think that I would rush back there.

This place is a celebration of the U.S. consumption culture. Enormous amount of food and all kind of accessories on the table that kind of ”goes unmentioned with every order” (breadbasket, a gallon of different sauces, water and so on). If you come from Europe -like I did- go for the ”small” plates or mugs (in the case of coffe/tea). First of all, you have to be a wrestler to eat everything, plus you can get a free refill on all your drink. The menu is also enormous consisting of around a hundred different items. The quality of the food and the service is actually below average so do not expect too much.

The service was slow, the food was average at best. Fine, but don't go too far out of your way for it...

Visited based on the TA reviews and so pleased we did. The husband loves his diners and this met all expectations. Great service and meal. Highly recommend a visit.

Historic diner in Greenwhich Village on the campus of NYU. Eggs benedict was great. Hash browns just ok. A little cold for me. My partner had quiche with salad which was equally good. Fairly priced for area too.

been going here for a million years,, usually breakfast which is good. today decided on th chicken souvlaki ...shoulda been asked if there was anything to add to it, as usually a good open chicken souvlaki will have feta, salad, othersides thrown in. this was lots of chicken on top of a soaked pita, aliitle lettuce with a tasteless tomato pinned to it. a tiny side of tzatziki, and so for +20$incl tax tip, i would give it a pass. place has lots of memories, nice people working it, great location.,.,. Next time will be just breakfast. got to keep supporting these dying diners but please, as long as youve boosted prices at least put some pizzaz into the plates!!

The decor is cute. Service has that authentic, slightly grumpy old school New York air. Food decent and hand cut home made fries were excellent.

We have closed close to Waverly Diner for a while and keep coming back. It is a classic diner that always has good, fast service and an array of great food. Open 24 hours which is always a plus as well!

Nice diner, good food, good service. A lot of options for breakfast, we didn't have to wait long. Very comfortable. Will come again.

A real slice of old New York. Great place to eat, fantastic staff and atmosphere. We went back a few times, mainly for breakfast. Best waffles I’ve ever had. A real American diner.

This is a very nice restaurant with some great food. Friends from New York City had recommended it back home. My friends were, of course, right! When there for the first time I went for the Philly cheese steak and loved it. The second time I went for some real country style eggs. Delicious. The waiters were professional and not shallowly polite, that is, the service was down to earth and good. The amosphere is generally diner-like and still a bit home-cozy. It indeed is a true American diner with excellent food. Well worth the prices too.

I have no idea why this diner gets tops reviews. I recently went with my wife after a show in the village. We walked in and the asked the waiter for a specific empty table at the window, he said, " I will seat you where I want". Next episode, my wife asked what was in the shellfish combo. The waiter had to ask and came back and said, "filet". Evidently, there was no shellfish in the shellfish combo. Next episode, my wife wanted a Greek salad but without the feta cheese. The waiter rudely asked her why bother ordering a Greek salad without the cheese? The last straw was when they bought our iced coffees which tasted like dirty water. At this point we decided it was time to leave. This diner was good maybe ten years ago when I last went but now its just old and worn.

We had signed up for the Ghosts of Greenwich village tour and knew that it began outside the restaurant so we came in to diner to grab dinner beforehand. Boy we were glad that we did! My wife had the french toast, my daughter had the turkey dinner and my son and I shared a fried chicken platter. The only thing that didn;t get devoured entirely was the turkey and that is because we spent so much time eating the delicious stuffing and potatoes that came with my daughters meal. The chicken was crunchy and the portions were HUGE. We even came back in to the restaurant after the ghost tour to grab black and white cookies and drinks before hopping on the subway. What a great meal!

Good fast service, clean and friendly faces. But most importantly the food is cooked to how you like it, the hash browns are great and everything is seasoned really well. I was not expecting it to be good as good as it was.

Well we ate here very day we were in NYC. A traditional family diner, serving a huge array of food from breakfast to dinner. We had the breakfast every da (and one evening meal). Superb eggs and hash browns served in a skillet. Staff were great. Atmosphere is wonderful. Can’t recommend enough.

U.S. residents may wonder what I'm talking about here, but to us Europeans this restaurant looks like every classic American diner you've ever thought of. Great decor - all wood panelling and brass and lots of booths. Friendly service and a brilliant place for breakfast or brunch. All the classics, including great eggs benedict, and an unlimited supply of good coffee. Highly recommended if you're around Greenwich village.

I came in to eat something on my own after a show in the West Village. The table for 1 person was literally a Barbie table! So as the occupancy was maybe 10% or less (please see picture taken at the moment of eating there), I asked if I could please sit on a bigger table and I was told “absolutely not”, because if they said yes to me, they would have had to say yes to everyone else (again, see picture, there was NOBODY ELSE, all the time I was there, it was almost 1:00 AM). They were perfectly comfortable with me saying I would then go somewhere else (guys, you need to hire someone focusing on Customer Experience!). I asked to speak with the manager, who said the same again. Amazing way to lose customers and get bad reviews! After taking visiting people here because it’s quite traditional, I WON’T come back! You lost a regular customer. (And just to confirm, the image described in the picture was the same all the time, I left at and no one came to occupy those tables)

Classic dinner food that is great. Fast service and nothing is bad on the menu . It’s a must go to if you hungry , looking for a fast meal . It’s a classic place in the village

Very straightforward no frills place. Nothing to conplain about the food and service. I felt it was not great value for money though given the other much trendier foodie options in the area.

Stopped in for a quick breakfast and it was a solid diner experience. Strong menu with just about everything available, a bit expensive but it is NYC. Meal was excellent and the service was solid.

The good was good, the coffee was quite good. Food overpriced though. Very busy. Toilets though smelt like vomit which was very off putting.

Had just gotten into town and we're headed out to shop. Starving would be an understatement. Saw this place as we walked by and read some of the reviews. I'd say 99% of them were very positive. Rightfully so. Food was good and old school diner setting. Worth your time. Waitress was very friendly.

I went here for a typical American Breakfast. Had pancakes and coffee - did not disappoint. Friendly staff.

the people that work here Rush you to order, then the waiter gets half your order incorrect, and manages to disappear while your screwed up food is getting cold and your friends are eating. Coffee refills are lacking. and the food is seriously sub-par for Manhatten. Toilets are built for very little people. Do Yourself a favor grab a cab and go to Katz's!

Their menu just keeps going. I had an omelette, my husband had the meatloaf. Both were good. The service was quick and friendly.

Good meal. Service was fine if not real personable. We both had sandwich wraps. Made with good, fresh ingredients. Very large portions. Would eat there again but would not go out of the way to go back.

The food was amazing! I had two eggs sunny side up, bacon and french toasts with coffee 🤩 The service was also really good and didn't have to wait. It was very clean and people were friendly. The price was ok for the amount of food and taste 🙏🏼 Edmund me sirvió con mucha atención y delicadeza 🙌🏻 Gracias!!

4 of us visited this diner and all had different meals. None .of us were disappointed. We only wanted a snack, but when our orders came there was plenty. It was so nice, I could not leave any of mine. The home made chicken noodle soup was delicious. I had the toasted ham and cheese sandwich. There was plenty of wafer thin ham and it was too good to leave any. It was served with a salad and a portion of lovely 'feathery' chips, which luckily was not a lot, as that would have meant more for me to eat.. Was very busy when we visited, but the staff were very attentive and helpful. We didn't have to wait long for the meals either.

My husband and I travelled down on the subway to eat somewhere and decide to call in here. The twin turkey burger was nothing as expected, two separate buns with what was supposed to be turkey burgers in, however these were very dry and tasteless. The club sandwich was also very dry. We wouldn't hurry back!

On the advice of a local girl, we decide to try this place for dinner after a long walk through the East Village. As soon as we enter, we are enveloped by the classic atmosphere of a real US diner. Tables and armchairs, counter seats and waiters ready to serve you. Standard menu, we try the classic Mac&Cheese and a pastrami served at the plate. All very good! Good value for money. Recommended...

Very typical nice diner with fabolous burgers. Very friendly, helpful however slow service. We waited a long time to taste those flavors

The food was fine, nothing special. The staff was also not very nice or welcoming. It was a little disappointing.

Go for soups and basic fare. Do not go for a pastrami sandwich. Great service but food quality did not appear high.

Popped in for lunch. Cheeseburger was suitably meaty and filling, albeit a bit lacking in seasoning. Vegetarian options fairly good too, with typically US-sized portions. Service friendly and brisk, and a wide range of puddings (in the unlikely event that you have any room left..) Very good prices considering the location. Would recommend for an inexpensive and tasty lunch.

Stopped in on a cold Friday for coffee and a light brunch. Prices were very reasonable and the food was served quickly. Refills on coffee were relatively slow but the service was generally friendly. Expansive menu options; local feel and character.

We came across the Waverly Diner by accident, as we were waiting for our kids to catch up with us from our hotel. We left the subway station to explore the area while we waited. The subway station is right outside the door. We both had eggs, bacon and corn beef hash. There was plenty of food as we were stuffed when we were finished. We enjoyed it so much, we went 1 more time before we left the city. We will definitely hit this place again next time we are in the city.

Here with two teens in this old fashioned diner with nicely prepared diner food. The girls opted for 'pizza fries' and my initial disgust gave way to delight at the fresh cut perfectly prepared potatoes were delicious. I had oatmeal with raisins and enjoyed it thoroughly. All around us people were enjoying full American breakfasts quaintly served in frying pans. We'll return if we get a chance!

We were walking back from exploring Greenwich Village and happened upon this classic Diner. Even the patrons and their overheard conversations were like a scene from Seinfeld - but in a really good way (no criticism or cynicism intended). Sitting at a booth drinking coffee and eating pancakes followed by New York Cheesecake (really great Cheesecake by the way) was a really wonderful interlude and made us feel like we could have only been in one place - the Big Apple. Great (friendly) service added to the enjoyment of the whole experience too. I will certainly drop by the next time I'm in the neighbourhood, it felt like the type of place that being a local would be really fun.

Great value and really wide menu. You can have anything on the menu at any time. All very reasonable priced and good food at this diner. The staff were very nice too.

I ate here recently on a Sunday morning. The place was packed and there was a 15 min wait. I read the reviews and had the expectation that this would be a good place to have a good basic breakfast. I ordered the two eggs, home fries with bacon and toast. My pretty straight forward breakfast was nothing short of disappointing. The eggs were fine. The home fries were simply ok. The toast was stale and the bacon was barely cooked. I will say that the orange juice was excellent. In my opinion the food was expensive for what it was. I didn't waste my time with any coffee because there was no way that was going to be any good. My recommendation is try someplace else.

This was a great find on our trip to NYC. We had a great lunch and plenty of other great items to try.

Popped in here for breakfast and it was amazing. I had pancakes and bacon and eggs and the works. The hubby had an omelette the full meal was great. The service was fantastic and the surroundings were nice, it was very traditional “diner’ with comfy booths to sit in. We will certainly be going back in the future.

Hello, during a trip to the nearby Intrepid Museum, we started walking through the blocks back towards the Metro stations and decided to stop off for a bite to eat. What a fantastic find, very clean, good tasty food and great service, reasonable prices, well worth a visit. If your in the area, pop in for a bite, the sandwiches are a Good size and very tasty. You will not be sorry, Good coffee too Enjoy, AP

Was glad to see a diner near my hotel. Had a Reuben & potato salad—was good, but wouldn’t necessarily seek it out again. Atmosphere, staff okay.

Wanted to try an old-school style diner and this one didn't disappoint. Very traditional, quick service and good food for a decent price. I had the avocado, tomato and lettuce on toast. My husband had eggs with sausage, bacon, potatoes and toast.

Came here for lunch & found the service brilliant and food delicious…found New York to be generally pricey but this diner to be value for money.

We've been staying in NYC for 6 nights and we've come here for breakfast every day. Great atmosphere and huge menu choices. Free coffee refills which is ideal for first thing in the morning.

Popped in by chance today and loved it. Service was to the point, efficient and not over friendly but classic new your. My pastrami Reuben was great but portion was too much for me, especially as it came with soup beforehand! Felt like I was in an episode of Seinfeld

I tried out the Waverly Diner/Restaurant during a long downtown late morning walk in New York City. As I began to feel hungry, I came upon the Waverly and decided to give it a try. The service was crisp yet friendly and the waitress helped me to choose the quiche and the New England clam chowder. The clam chowder was tasty and prepared me for the quiche which was very thick and deep. I really enjoyed the quiche and the restaurant's ambience as a NYC diner/restaurant. The prices were very reasonable and I have a new place to add to my list of "spots" to go in New York City for a relaxed bite.

We popped in here for breakfast. We weren't disappointed. Great toast, eggs and bacon. Everything else I saw looked good as well. Locals were eating here - always a good sign.

Nearby restaurants were pricy and not much food. We had occasion to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at this top rated diner (down the street from our hotel). More like home for price, amount of food, cost of alcohol, and even dinner was surprisingly excellent! They make their own pastrami--very lean and superb.

If you like your breakfast this is the place We walk 15 blocks to get here every day We'll worth it , 1St class

Seating is a bit cramped if you are a part of more than four. The wait staff seemed a bit apathetic but were at least prompt with service and brining out food. Food itself was generally ok. New York has many other diners that knock out far higher qaulity food and service.

Looking for lunch on a Saturday afternoon - party of 3 waited 10 minutes for a table - friendly service - giant menu - so many choices - had a chicken salad melt - open face - standard - nothing special but tasty - good location - small diner

Since I’ve not been to all the places serving pancakes in New York to truly know if this 24 hour joint has the best flapjacks in town, I’ll just say they serve the best I’ve ever tried. Light and fluffy, the cakes are perfectly prepared. Do I need say any more?

Came here only once. Had an omelette with bacon. Was way too dry. Staff seemed a bit indifferent. Recommend Good Stuff Diner over this place

We had breakfast on site and were not impressed. The pancakes were dry, the bacon bad, the eggs boring and the sausages inedible. And it was also expensive. The service was good and the staff were nice.

This place has been here forever ..good food especially after partying all night! Regular diner food but laid back

Made a quick stop for lunch in the Village. Excellent quick service. Simple food made well. I had the tuna salad sandwich, which was well made and tasty.

A must while in US. Go back into the 50ies and enjoy a great food, huge portions and prices. Loved the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere really classic. Would happily go back anytime.

This is my go-to diner in Manhattan. Great people watching, good enough food, ad friendly service. Some of the staff have been here forever and are still nice. Even the pastichio is good here; breakfast is filling, and ,cheeseburger deluxe is my default when I can't decide. Haven't tried the desserts, though. I have to say that I do not like the remodeling. I miss the old look.

During my 9:30 am weekday visit, the restaurant was busy but not crowded. It's an older diner with an obviously loyal clientele. I took a seat at the window and was impressed how attentive multiple members of the staff were. I never lacked for water or coffee refills. Finished plates were removed quickly. Every interaction was polite and friendly. I ordered a Western omelet with hash browns and toast. Not the best I've ever eaten but very good. There's free wifi and it was fun to watch people passing by. WIth tip, the total was around $17.

Has been recommended this diner so when we came across it we decided to pop in. This is a diner with great choice, the staff don't hover which suits me. The food was plentiful and well cooked. Would have happily gone back again but time during our trip ran out. If I'm in New York again I will definitely go back.

Definitely a good spot for real American breakfast! Service is good and fast too and very friendly. Their portions are huge! We had omelet, panncakes and eggs with sausage plus coffees and we were very satisfied. Price was around 35$.

On our last day in NYC, ducked in out of nasty weather for a quick meal before heading out. The menu is really extensive, so there's something for everyone. Nothing fancy, just quality comfort food in large portions, and really great service. My daughter's French toast was yummy but twice as much as she could eat. I got their patty melt with added avocado and absolutely loved it. Plus, the french fries are to die for! I'd go again for the fries alone.

We had the most Amazing meal and service at this diner. We both had steak and it was cooked to perfection . We struggled to eat it all, Portion sizes were plentiful but we managed to leave room for the amazing desert . We had strawberry cheesecake with ice cream and apple pie with ice cream : it was delicious. We would highly recommend this diner not only for the amazing food but for the friendly service you receive

This is an old style American diner that offers good food that's well priced. We went for breakfast before embarking on a free walking tour of Greenwich Village (some thing else I would recommend!). It's a cosy little restaurant where the portions are huge and the quality is pretty decent too - it must be good as it was a popular with locals to Our! There were 4 of us and we had a mixture of cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast) and pancakes washed down with endless coffee. It came to less than $50 which was great value given the generally high restaurant prices in New York. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Greenwich Village area.

We came across the restaurant and called in for breakfast, it was really good, big portions, fast service highly recommend. We returned here 3 times for breakfast, it was that good!

We went there for Saturday breakfast, business was very brisk. Expect to queue. Anyways it was fresh and delicious, there even was the feeling that the Belgian waffles were better than in Belgium, they were so fine !

We had an awsome burger there. The portion was huge and the burger very tasty. French fries were also big and nicely done. Prices are low so it's definitely a good spot to go in the area

We came here for a late breakfast/early lunch to eat something quickly. My grandmother ordered some porridge and my sister and I ended up sharing pizza fries. Both were delicious! The porridge was creamy and had tons of raisins and the pizza fries were homeade and flavourful! The service was nice and the atmosphere was unique! I really enjoyed my meal here.

Went here with low hopes but they really came through. Good pasta, burger , fries really nice. Service very friendly. Only issue was gyro was a bit dry - but really not major! Would go again 😁😁😁

If you like poached eggs, the Waverly Diner does them right. They were cooked to perfection. The hash browns were excellent, crispy and hot. My daughter's chocolate chip pancakes with fresh strawberries was huge and so delicious. My husband's skillet omelette was hot and well cooked. Highly recommend.

A step back in time eating in a 1950's diner. Very busy so vey popular. Great food. Huge portions. Friendly staff.

Our burgers arrived quickly and they refiled our sodas promptly. The food was good and hot. Serving size was just average.

Came here for breakfast this morning, manners don’t cost that much especially in England! When we come here for a holiday we expect the same manners in return. The server we had was Polish, obviously wasn’t brought up the correct way!

Kinda a lame brunch. Food was expensive in my opinion. Got a pastrami corned beef with cheddar cheese and coleslaw actually salvaged the sandwich.

just a great classic nyc diner. we always try to get to it when we're in the neighborhood and taking long walks between here and the river in all directions. especially like the wraps, the greek specialties and the yummy burgers. staff is friendly and attentive.

a nice diner in Greenwich Village. They have a large menu and is open 24 hours. Large portion sizes make it a great value. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Loved this little diner. It was local to our hotel and we ate breakfast here twice and dinner another night. Prices are very reasonable and there was lots of options. It’s an old fashioned diner with lots of charm and attentive and helpful severs. Just shows, you can get good value meals in New York!

We popped into the Waverly for lunch whilst exploring Greenwich Village. We were ravenous when we sat down and ordered straight away. I orderd a hot Pastrami sandwich, which came with lettuce, tomato, coleslaw and fries. My sandwich was okay but the pastrami tasted a bit dry, I had to swamp it in mustard to put a bit of flavour into it. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken cutlet parmigiana sandwich, which was swamped in mozzarella and again came with fries. She had trouble finishing her sandwich, and added it was a bit rich for her taste. That was cured by an apple pie with whipped cream which we shared. Not the best food we had in New York, but we felt stuffed when we left. So the Waverly Diner did the job!

We finally tried this diner in the heart of the West Village in New York City and found that it not only had a wonderful menu but actually had all the items we wanted from the menu. The baked potato was fresh and newly baked, not warmed over. Everything was cooked the way we asked. The apple pie was delicious. The service was prompt and excellent, the prices reasonable. Highly recommended.

Poached eggs were nice but could have been even more runny in the middle. Still enough to soak your toast in it. I would have preferred my toast un-buttered but it was already served as such. Fried eggs and bacon are served in a skillet at your table. Funny detail. Okay diner. Would go back.

Perfect dinner meal As u dream of when ure hungry and the milkshake....omg This is what uve seen in the movies, authentic

This is an old-fashion diner that quickly serves you with great food! Loved the decor and friendly staff. The service was excellent!

We were a bit sceptical at food quality at first as menu absolutely huge, but food was nice and massive portions. Great value for money and a good American diner experience. I had the vegetarian cheeseburger and it was so nice. Definitely recommend if you're around the Greenwich village area!

That perfect Breakfast spot! The line moves fast and service is efficient. We are very picky about breakfast places that are run well and Waverly Diner is among the best. Coffee Cup and Water always full, food came quickly and staff responded quickly if we wanted anything. Even so, it was clear that friends were enjoying leisurely breakfasts and we never felt rushed. The surprise for us were the Silver Dollar pancakes. Neither of us are big pancake fans, but these were way better than usual. Slightly chewy, vanilla and just yummy. My husband had the steak and eggs and loved the large quantity of clearly house made real hash browns. We all loved the large menu that allowed you to mix and match easily. We are a little crowd averse and this did test my COVID fears - staff don’t wear masks as they did everywhere else we had breakfast that week. The place was packed, but we were seated in less than 10 minutes - I would definitely return when I feel a little less concerned about illness

Made a Christmastime trip to New York City this past December, and found this restaurant while walking down the street from the Washington Square Hotel, where I was staying. I definitely wanted a New York diner experience, so I decided to try it for dinner on my second night before heading uptown to Radio City Music Hall. It was fabulous -- warm, friendly, not very large, great food, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Liked it so much, I went back for breakfast the next morning, and that was every bit as good. I do want to come back to NYC again, stay at the Washington Square again, and most definitely come back to Waverly Diner again.

My family of three and I came here for breakfast one morning as it was close to our hotel. We were pleased with the food, and quaint atmosphere. Very pleasant! In addition, the Waverly Diner delivered food to us at our hotel after our very late plane arrival. Would recommend to anyone.

Average at best. Poor and inattentive service. Fares are on the salty sides. Basic salads, save the subway fare or the soles of your shoes.

Food was excellent. Portions are large. Friendly staff. It was a hot day, and the AC was running great! So glad we found this place! It’s a must!

I recently visited nyc & spent the previous day trecking to a fancy breakfast spot for pancakes which had a looong wait time. The next day I came here solely because it was near my apartment and I wish I had gone here everyday prior! The pancakes were insane, came with a little pot of syrup. The waiters were quick friendly and good at their job, the kitchen when I walked past looked spotless and I loved the old school dinner look. Best place I ate at my entire trip, great varied menu if you don't fancy pancakes too. A MUST

as a teen I came to NY every summer from the UK to work as a camp counsellor. I started eating at the Waverly at first because money was tight but then because I loved the food and service in my own little piece of America, I then brought my own family here, introduced it to friends and think of it fondly. It's the first place I eat in when I return to NY. Say hi to me in August

Just avoid this place. Service is so slow. Waiter was asked if the lentil soup was vegetarian as my wife is vegetarian and was told no so my wife said she wouldn’t bother having it but the waiter still brought it anyway. Waiter knocked my wife’s glass of water off the table but didn’t bother to bring a replacement until he was asked for one. Ordered a New York steak but the waiter had to go and ask if they had any which they didn’t so I had to end up ordering something else. Food was very bland in all honesty. Just wasn’t worth the money. Not somewhere I’d ever go back to

This is the kind of diner I remember from the 1970s. Comfort food in large portions. Decor has not changed since then.

Service was efficient and friendly. Menu was typical for a diner. The portions were plentiful and more importantly the food was good. If you want a diner type meal you can not do better

An quaint little diner that we make sure to visit every time we are in the city. Wait staff is very attentive and the food comes out quick. Highly recommend this place.

The interior cleanliness level is average (there was a pot of mayonnaise lying around at our feet), the burger was good but the side dish average. The staff is nevertheless friendly. Mixed experience we will tell you.

Liked the diner vibe and fruit smoothies were very nice. There was a vast menu but no vegetarian symbols so it was more difficult than it should have been to know what we could eat. I opted for macaroni cheese, not realising it would come as bland macaroni pasta with what can only be described as a rubbery, congealed processed cheese slice mixed in. This was not pleasant to eat and the mashed potatoes ordered as an accompaniment were pretty tasteless. My husband did enjoy his meal and the service was quite friendly.

Huge menu to choose from, quick and friendly service. We were here for a bite to eat before going to the comedy cellar both the chicken ceasar salad and chicken Parmesan was huge and delicious, would come again and recommend

Was recommended by a delivery driver whilst staying in New York. On the edge of Greenwich village. A real American diner and the breakfast was superb. The manager was polite and made us feel very welcome. The food came out very quickly and was very hot. Coffee topped up as normal. Price excellent. I highly recommend this place certainly for breakfast.

Our visit was just a bit average ..The hamburger was a bit ordinary and a bit dry. The sphagetti with meat gravy was okay. The service was very good however and restaurant appeared clean. Maybe if we had gone for an American breakfast the opinion would be more favourable like other reviewers.

We have been here a few times before over the years and it remains a great place to grab brunch. Highly recommended

Perfect NY diner experience -- lots of booth seating, very big menu, everything made individually. The staff encouraged changes to fit out taste (whole wheat toast, dry) and the food came quickly. But we could linger if we wanted to. We ate breakfast six days in a row!

Great restaurant, quiet, comfortable, table sac., way overly priced. Good Food could be better. Open

Went here after an event at NYU. Service was fine, prices were reasonable but food for all five in our group was mediocre or worse. Chicken noodle soup was lukewarm and had no taste. Eggplant parmigiana was watery with minimal taste and spaghetti had a funny taste and was not edible. Pastrami sandwich was extremely fatty. Only good thing was sweet potato fries.

Ate here on 6 and 10 September 2019. Wonderful on both visits. Excellent service. Very enjoyable food. Only issue we had was portion size -- huge, and we couldn't finish our food. Welcome to the USA!

Was it too early in the morning for the waiter that caused him to be very rude - throwing things on the table grunting and groaning pacing up and down? Eggs and hash potatoes were average - not enough to make up for the poor service.

A diner from the old days. Standard diner fare, but food is hot, service quite efficient and friendly. Portions are sizeable but prices are a bit on the high side - as everywhere nowadays. If you want a decent place for breakfast ( this is what we had) then you can't go wrong here.

This is a fine place for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. It's one of the last NYC diners. Food is good. Service is grumpy and perfunctory but fairly quick. It's not super expensive unlike most places in the City these days. It's still not cheap just comparatively less for NYC. One thing i hate? They won't split checks. So if you want to pay using more than one credit card, Ask for separate checks.

This is the kind of deli my parents took me to as a child when we visited family in NYC. Big portions of well prepared food and a large number of choices. For NYC prices are moderate. Warm and comfortable inside, which was very much appreciated on a windy January day. Service was good, too.

I've been going to this restaurant, which is really a nice diner, since the late 1960's! The food is delicious and the portions generous, The wait staff is friendly and efficient. The seats are comfortable, and the atmosphere is laid back. It is in the heart of Greenwich Village, convenient to subways and bus.

We sat and started to look over the menu. What a wide choice of different foods. My wife ordered avocado salad, another a steak, chicken wrap and myself fettucini with creamy garlic sauce. All dishes were tasty and so clean looking. Good service, good service with good food. What more could one want.

This used to be called Waverly Diner and has been around for over 20 years now. I have been eating here since I was in my teens during the wee hours of the morning when you are famished and drunk after a night of partying or just want to eat good food anytime of the day. They have an extensive menu and food has always been great. Service is quick with uber friendly staff. Price is very affordable. NY cheesecake and philly cheese steak.. my favorite!

This is a homey old school American dinner with a huge menu, good service, and warm atmosphere. The food is excellent with good portion sizes for reasonable prices. I enjoyed it the first time and came back again the next evening I was in the West Village during my NYC trip. The waiters are older gentlemen who know good service and add class to the place. In particular I recommend the vegetarian lasagne, it’s fabulous. They have free wifi as well and the place is well located right next to West 4th St subway station entrance. Open 24/7 too!

Place was empty but they asked me to sit at s tiny table. I’m average size and a barely fit. Place was still empty when I left. Rude service. Went because I saw a sign outside steamed pastrami. I’m a diner fan and a fan of pastrami so it sounds good. Was the fattiest pastrami I ever had. Was mushy The worst part is that it was served on white bread with gravy. WTF? Am I in the south? They should be shut down by the food police for that!

We stumbled across this classic diner after visiting Washington Square Park. It was a welcome reprieve from the bitterly cold wind. We enjoyed it most because it was the first New York diner experience of our trip. It was as if we were in a sitcom, complete with original decor. The service was efficient, but not overly friendly. The extensive menu was packed full of home favourites (pastrami, corned beef, clam chauder) and diner classics (steak, burgers, chicken). The food was like a good home cooked meal, reasonable portions. Highly recommended as good value food that won’t hurt the travel budget.

On the corner of Waverly Place and 6th Ave (Ave of the Americas) within Greenwich Village sits the Waverly Restaurant. It’s a tight fit, but allows for many guests at one time (there is a decent amount of tables even though it is fairly small). Places to hang your coat, and windows all along the outside, gives you a little hideaway from the hustle of the restaurant. It took a while for our order to be taken, but once we did our food came within 10 minutes. We ordered savory and sweet breakfasts, and it was all very delicious! There is definitely more than breakfast though! Sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. It may not be the ‘Sub Shop’ from Wizards of Waverly Place, but it was still pretty cool. (Side note: there is no merchandise from the television show).

Of all the places to eat in NYC, this should be the last place to go. I'd read the reviews about how rude and belligerent the wait staff was, but from the moment we walked through the door until we decided that their attitude and behavior was so terrible that we just needed to find another place for lunch, their rudeness and complete indifference were unbelievable. Why anyone would eat here is beyond me. Our suggestion: anyplace else.

My niece and I stopped in for breakfast about 8 am one morning. They have a great selection and the food was very good. I had the belgium waffle and it was delicious.

Honestly a typical American experience pancakes 🥞 eggs Benedict all good and very good service unlike what I saw on TripAdvisor. Not too expensive considering the prices in NYC. You simply shouldn't expect French quality.

Waverly had good diner food priced well. A super convenient central spot, as well. We would go back.

If you’re looking for the quintessential New York Greenwich Village eating experience this is it. Good food. Big portions. Fair prices. Super friendly. My daughter insisted we go two nights in a row.

One of my checklists for visiting New York was to sample proper New York diner's. Those places open til the early hours/24hrs where you can get bacon and eggs at 3am after a night in the city. Unfortunately we only had time to do this once on our trip and the Waverly Diner was perfect. Proper New Yorker staff/owners, an old guy who always has his regular on one table, an old couple at another, hipsters at another - all the right ingredients. I can't remember exactly what we ordered, a club sandwich of some description, another hot bit I can tell you it was amazing. Portion size was just right, the homemade coleslaw was perfect, plenty of filling, even the pickles were fantastic! Only downside was my partner's chicken had a rubbery part (nothing to do with how it's cooked, sometimes this just happens) but we didn't make a fuss as she'd eaten the majority and I gave her half my sandwich and crisis was averted! Staff were all friendly enough, I think it's a New York trademark - the ability to look like they do, and don't care at the same time, part of the charm!

We enjoyed the food at Waverly Diner so much that we decided to have a second visit. It is a typical american diner, with a great menu choice.

Good fresh tasting food. Expect to pay 15-20 dollars for most of the items, more for the nicer stuff like steak. Right by the subway entrance which was nice for us because we were on our way home.

Traditional diner with a huge menu & large portions. The pancakes outfaced me but they were delicious. Definitely worth a visit but make sure you’re hungry!

Food was good, very typical diner menu with lots of choices. Friendly service. Convenient location near Washington square park. Quaint diner atmosphere.

Authentic place serving hearty breakfast to set you up for the day Eggs everywhich way including Benedict Good pancakes Good bacon Stuff your face for $20! One downside : coffee is typical American dishwater of no use to Europeans who actually want it strong , black and actually tasting of coffee

It’s not only about its atmosphere but also about quality food and efficient service. We had several breakfast at Waverly and enjoyed the place very much. A must-go if you’re in the area.

Great diner in the heart of the village. On of the last diner around with this kind of food. The food quality is ok but it will be a sad day when this kind of place will disappear. Worth the visit. Great staff.

As a European with many American moviescenes from a NY restaurants in memory this must be the role model! In a corner on 6 th Street, a small vestibule leads you in to what I exactly as you have imagined. Red sofas on each side, swift, friendly waitresses, hundreds of dishes to choose from and immediate service. The food was good, not a fiver though, let's call it 3,5 but the atmosphere was just fantastic. Probably the are hundreds identical places in NY but this was really good enough for us. Can recommend it.

Good food and good prices especially for New York. If you ever come to NY on a budget this is the place to go

This diner has a long history in the Village. It's a classic, old school 24-hour diner that's had minimal updates over the years. The menu is extensive ... they have just about anything you can think of. Seating is a bit tight. Service was fine although not friendly at all. The bathroom is, well, someting to be avoided if you can. It's a NY experience to eat here, but I was disappointed this trip.

I live across the street from this Village staple so it really feels like s neighborhood place! Always a good breakfast, 24/7. Other food better than you’d expect for a diner open all night. It was really bustling at 4 AM on New Year’s! Waiters can be a little tired but hey, they’ve been up all night! Recommended. It’s NOT a greasy spoon.

Decided to head here for breakfast after seeing reviews and whilst the outside doesn’t look up to much, the food was really lovely. Great service, speedy too and served up in cute little pans! Worth a stop!

I have been enjoying the Waverly on every NYC trip since moving away years ago. The staff is always nice and the food consistently good. Definitely a NYC icon.

We saw this restaurant and noticed the top 20 restaurant sign in NY, so we stopped. The 9nly tho g great about this place was their breakfast sausage and eggs. They were excellent. We also got a tuna plate which was supposed to have lettuce underneath. It was very sparse with very old cucumbers. The potatoe salad was okay too. We sat in the front and people watched which was fun since our server only came by a couple of times throughout our 45 minutes we were there. Terrible service and they had hardly any customers. I won't go back.

I went here för breakfast and ordered egg benedicte. It was Ok, but tasteless and the potatos were soggy and overdone.

This has stood the test of time, established in 1976, same family still running it, My family have been going here for years, and make this our breakfast place when visiting NY (although lunch and dinner is good too). There are a few Greek specials on the extensive menu. Its a diner, can be fast or slow. Service is always good, the coffee cup is never empty. Looks like some people gave been going here for ever. Great location on corner 6th and Waverly Place.

We stopped in looking for an inexpensive lunch. This is an iconic diner style restaurant with a large menu. We chose a sandwich and a salad and then shared. So Good!

We ate here on our first night as it was very close to our hotel and it was quite late. It's a great place, typically New York, and open 24 hours a day. The menu is confusingly huge and includes every conceivable kind of food you would expect in this type of restaurant. Portions are typically enormous. The staff were very friendly and the prices, for New York, quite reasonable. A recommended experience!

Better places to go. Food average, soggy bread, unseasoned soup. Staff were unfriendly & rude. Demanding to be tipped despite terrible service & average food...sorry but no.

We were in the City and excited to stop in for breakfast, as we had good memories from long ago meals, but we would've been better off sticking with the memories. While the service was quick and the presentation was inventive, the food ranged from pedestrian to inedible (my daughter said the pancakes tasted like McDonald's, and the hash browns tasted like something from a school cafeteria). I'm predisposed toward loving diners, but this meal was a complete dud.

I love diners, and this one is really popular. We had Reuben sandwiches and a banana split, so not really testing it's culinary power. Everything was good, including the lemonade, and the service was prompt. I particularly liked the fact that a lot of the customers were clearly locals enjoying the Friday specials which were very reasonable. The tables were slightly sticky, which I think is a testament to how quickly there were turned over! However it wasn't overcrowded, and the food was fine.

If your looking for a classic American diner experience, then this is a solid choice. We went for breakfast, all very tasty and clean cooked items, not greasy at all. The service was efficient and helpful and felt really good value for money. Being super picky, if anything could have been better, I’d say a little more personable service. I’d happily return and recommend.

Had just your regular bacon and eggs but it was extremely good. Nice jumbo eggs and the hash browns were well Cooked? Bacon was nice and thick, not paper thin! Breakfast was served in a frying pan which was very neat. Service was very good as well.

I was here for breakfast and it was really good! You have loads of options for breakfast! Eggs, waffles, pancakes etc. What I liked is that the food was not fatty as it sometimes is.. I do recommend it!

We really wanted to have hash browns after an earlier trip to Arizona and they are surprisingly hard to find in NYC. An Internet search revealed this to be a great place to get breakfast and so it turned out. It's convenient for sites in lower Manhattan. We ordered the skillet breakfasts and they were tasty and good value with under $30 for two. Nice friendly place and frequented by regulars. We also didn't feel rushed which is a big plus.

I was staying in the West Village. This diner and the Washington Square Diner were both nearby. I visited this one for a quick late lunch because it's right above the W. 4th St. Metro stop. The menu is quite extensive and I think anything can be ordered at any time. After looking through the entire menu, I opted for a Western omelette with hash browns and wheat toast, and a "fresh homemade" lemonade. The omelette and potatoes were served in a skillet, but I don't think they were prepared in it. The omelette was more done than I like, and the hash browns not as crisp as I like, but they were fine. as was the lemonade. There were a lot of other interesting things on the menu, and their dessert selection looked very good. Great spot for a quick bite, or if you can't get into one of the West Village's hundreds of hot, pricey restaurants.

What a great place this is! I visited here 10 years ago with my father and it hasn't changed a bit! Good service, fantastic food - breakfast served in a skillet!

Used this a couple of times during an autumn visit to NYC. Had used on a previous visit. Great food. Friendly and efficient service. Great for people watching. Highly recommended.

I enjoy eating in this diner every time I’m nearby. Food is always fresh and prepare with care. The place is cozy, not overcrowded, perfect for chill lunch or quick dinner.

As a tourist it's almost hard to pick from the menu but a brunch at this place will make you happy what ever you choose!

The Waverly Restaurant is an American diner and serves American comfort food from its Greenwich Village location. The restaurant is close to Washington Square Park and is not far from a subway station. The restaurant is located on the corner of 6th Avenue and Waverly Place in Lower Manhattan. It is also close to the NYU campus (although I did not see any students there). The Waverly is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year (24/7). I stopped here with my wife on a Friday afternoon in mid-August for an afternoon, ice cream treat and enjoyed it. There were lots of desert choices on the menu but we both ordered strawberry malts. The malts were great and I finished mine off in nothing flat (my wife ate hers much slower). If our nearby hotel did not provide a free breakfast I definitely would have come back for breakfast (as their breakfast menu was quite large). The malts were only about $6 bucks which I thought was pretty cheap for a Manhattan restaurant. The service was pretty good but we did not ask them to do much. Overall, I enjoyed stopping at the Waverly Restaurant for desert and recommend it. If you are in Greenwich Village and are looking for an old fashion American Diner, check out this restaurant.

The pastrami was the best we've had - so tender and lean. The service was fantastic. The fries were crispy and golden brown...and the homemade lemonade was beyond amazing!!

The food was great. My husband ordered Lox on a bagel. He was happy with the eating experience. I had the fruit smoothly which was fresh and satisfying. We has a bit of a communication problem with the server... English was not his primary language, but we were able to work it out. Otherwise the service was fine!

We were in New York for 5 days and ended up eating here twice, extensive comfort food menu, had the omelette both time with chips and my hubby had different things. Great food, cosy diner, friendly service. No frills and just what we wanted after a long day walking. We tried to do 'Brunch' one day in a posher establishment only to be told they only serve that on the weekends (we were the only ones in there and only wanting eggs and there had been nothing to suggest it was weekend only) so ended up hungry walking half an hour to the Waverly knowing we could get pretty much whatever we wanted all day! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a cosy cheap meal.

We went to W after reading about IR on timeout, it is a traditional Diner with good food but I have to say that you can find better in NY nowadays. In any case the quality is good and I would come back in case.

My husband and I split a corned beef Reuben with the fries and coleslaw - very good. Huge sandwich, glad we split it! Fries were very good as well. Service was very fast and friendly.

Wife and I had breakfast and lunch there 3 days in a row. While there I saw staff washing ceilings, woodwork, doors, vents, etc. They keep this place immaculate. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is good and great portions also. My dad goes 2-3 times a week here! Bravo!!

Lovely traditional breakfast in the comfortable setting of a traditional diner. Attentive wait staff and just what we were looking for on a rainy morning. Try it you’ll like it. Our new homey spot for drop-ins.

Excellent diner in Greenwich Village. We met our tour guide close to here one morning and decided to have something to eat before. We only had a few minutes so we sat down to enjoy bagels and juice......we were so impressed with the service, food and quaintness of this place that we HAD to go back. Went back the next day and had the eggs Benedict, WOW ! absolutely fabulous. Now I know why they were voted one of the top 20 diners in America!
Super busy reasonably priced Diner!
Good food, prices and service. Mostly homestyle diner food and waitstaff friendly despite how busy this place is. Great location on Waverly. Turkey Omelettes and coffee we had were very good. Nice view and refill place to stop and have a quick breakfast or an afternoon meal.
