Great Austrian fare, with unusual international shadings in the daily specials. We loved the black bean soup with a back beat of sizzle. The regular menu is solid -- we've enjoyed it all, from the bratwurst to the calamari with kielbasa. Schnitzels too! Good selection of beers-on-tap too.

I've been to Werkstatt a few times since it opened and have never been disappointed. Great food, good wine, super fast service, and awesome atmosphere. Excellent addition to our neighborhood.

A very pleasant evening here. Excellent food. We chose the chicken liver mousse as an appetizer, followed by the chicken schnitzel and a poached pear with ice cream and chocolate fudge sauce as dessert.

My family and I have been here several times over the last year or two. Always a great meal in a really nice space. Excellent, authentic Austrian salads, great schnitzel and delicious desserts. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem in Brooklyn. Try to sit in the back area, very cozy.

Good but do not accept visa card: a réal issue for a French visitor (a cashdispenser is available to with Drew cash and pay the bill)

Had a quick dinner here before an event at Kings Theater on a cold fall night and it was great! Two perfect schnitzels with a little potato salad and some wine, and the staff was so kind about helping us make our show time. Cozy and nice mix of people. Wish we would have had time to linger and try some of the other dishes. Next time!

I ordered delivery and was very excited to try this place. The food didn't come after 1 hour and when I called the restaurant the owner was screaming at me that it wasn't his fault. Well sorry buddy, it's your business and under these circumstances you should not be yelling at potential patrons that were looking forward to your food. Huge turn off and will probably lose more patrons with that attitude.

We have visited this place many times with friends and by themselves. Food is always great. Check out daily specials. They, also, have a very good Austrian Pine liquor. On some occasions they forgot about happy hour pricing for drinks.

We eat here a lot. I especially love the pan fried Brussels Sprouts. The Goulash is always good and my romantic partner loves the smoked whitefish. I am not a schnitzel fan but people eating with us swear by the wiener schnitzel here. Lots of good beer (of course). We've never had to reserve but recently this place was reviewed in The New Yorker magazine so consider reserving. If the weather is good, try eating outside.

Werkstatt is one of the neighborhood restaurants I've felt safe frequenting since the restaurants in NYC have opened back up. The staff is always properly masked, outdoor seating is truly six feet apart, and hand sanitizer is available. The food is delicious and the portions are large enough for two meals. My new favorite dish is the pork chop, which is perfectly cooked and expertly flavored. My visits here are a little taste of summer during this exceptionally bizarre year and I am grateful to Werkstatt for this space.

Unassuming premises, back dining room with bench & table seating; front at the bar also there are tables as well. The food is exquisite. From the Chicken liver pate, calamari and Kielbasa, pan roasted Brussel sprouts as appetizers, to Paprika Chicken, Goulash and Shnitzels, the place is a gem. Terrific beer choices abound. You just can't go wrong !

Werkstatt is a small local pub with excellent Austrian food and great atmosphere. Friendly service, reasonable prices and wonderful food and beer. You must pay with cash.

Finding a no-frills Austrian place in NYC is hard enough, let alone Brooklyn. There are a few spots, but none as affordable and homey as Werkstatt. Our server was a friendly woman who was always around at the right time. It was a family visit with my older sister, mom, and dad. While mom was not all that impressed by the food, some of the highlights were the French toast, the fluffy scrambled eggs in the Eggs & sausage dish, the creamed spinach in the Green eggs & ham, the Mimosas, which were strong and at the perfect value, and to top it all off, the Topfenkuchen (Austrain cheesecake and special of the day)- so yummy due to the creaminess, low sugar, and high melt-in-your-mouth content. See the photos for close-ups of the dishes, yummm. Overall, very homey, rich, and authentic Austrian dishes. I thought it was good for the value, especially in comparison to the pricier places in Manhattan. And of course, the attentive, upbeat service simply tops it all off.

I love the food drinks and vibe of this place! Something for everyone. My husband loves the giant pretzel! I live the aperol spritz and the salmon. A great place for drinks and dinner.

An oasis on Coney Island Avenue. Staff is warm and friendly. The food menu is not extensive but the food itself is well-prepared, delicious and served in generous portions. We look forward to enjoying the back room in the warm months when they can open the glass doors.

we go back and back and back to Werkstatt - and every single time we have a lovely meal with kind service. the owners are almost always on site and have a smile and a handshake. they hire very nice waitstaff. the food is always well-executed. i'm a schnitzel fanatic but i often tear myself away from the excellent schnitzel to get one of the specials - the other night it was a beautiful fillet of salmon sitting on top of what was advertised to be greens but was greens and bits of asparagus and cabbage and roasted potatoes scattered about with a subtle cream sauce. the chicken paprikash is fall off the bone fab. and we always always always order the chicken liver pate as an appetizer with this onion jam as a spread. (great, now i'm hungry again). they always have good vegetarian options also. the beers are great and they have decent wine on tap as well as bottles. you simply can't go wrong.

No sure whose cooking or who owns this place but their concept of Austria/German food is really off the mark. Kase Spaetzle with stringy Gruyere and burnt onions. The offering on the menu were rather sparse. One Austrian beer in the menu. The prices were not all that reasonable either for what you get. Just skip this place.

Werkstatt is a first class restaurant in an up and coming neighborhood and not the type of food you would expect to find on this end of Coney Island Ave. They have a nice size menu with three or four specials daily. I highly recommend the smoked whitefish and sauerkraut crepe with creamy mushroom sauce. it is on the appetizer list, but could serve as an entree if paired with a side dish. Other favorites are the chicken liver pate and the homemade pretzel, both appetizers and their homemade bratwurst as an entree. I happened to try their smoked pork shoulder special on my most recent visit, it melted in my mouth!

The large soft pretzel and fried mushrooms were very good. Chicken, served two ways, knockwurst and saurbraten were plain and not very tasty. Beers were good. Over all, I've had better Austrian/German food in non specific continental restaurants. For me not worth the 15 minute drive.

We recently stopped here for brunch. The staff was quite helpful and friendly. My primary issues are that it had VERY tight seating and since the servings were on the slim side it would have nice to have some bread to help satisfy my hunger. The food itself was quit good but more would have nice. Since I haven't been there for dinner I want to be a little careful with my issues.

Everything about this place takes me back home. My mum has Hungarian roots so the food I grew up with was all Schnitzel, goulash, chicken soup etc. I have passed by Werkstatt so many times with the intentions of going in but have yet to find people to come with me. Finally, I pulled some friends with me and put my foot down. We're going to Werkstatt! So we walk in and honestly, all bars look the same, but this one just felt like it was more European pub style. I was loving it. We were seated right away with menus and water right after. Our waitress (Forgot her name but she's been there since they opened) was super attentive, nice and helpful with our decision of what to order. We settled with ordering some cocktails, wine, and for food we got the Chicken Soup, Chicken Liver Mousse, Goulash, Salmon, Side of Veggies and Side of Roasted Potatoes. For dessert we ordered Apple Strudel and another dessert, I forgot the name but it was great. The chicken soup was so hearty and flavourful, I almost thought I was eating my mums homemade soup. The Chicken Liver Mousse was something else, almost like a dessert, so tasty and sweet. The goulash, omg the goulash! You must must get the goulash if you are here for dinner. The meat was top notch, absolutely phenomenal and instead of potatoes they used spatzel which gave it this awesome twist yet still incredible. Ah! Just thinking of it I want to run back and get some more. The fish honestly reminded me of my mums salmon, it was so similarly cooked. Beautiful flavors in the spices they used to cook it in. Perfectly cooked at a medium temperature. I know I'm raving about this food, but honestly guys, this is what great food should be like. Not a single dish was left over or had any crumbs left on the plate. I really enjoyed the dinner we had here and honestly can't wait to come back for more. Especially now that I'm 45% fluent in German :p Really guys. This is a must go to on your bucket list.

A very special restaurant in Brooklyn the food is very good with a great service. I am not a big pretzel fan, fut you must order the pretzel is unbelievable

The food is incredible at this restaurant. We ordered the pork/sauerkraut main course off the menu and I'm blown away. It is the best I've ever eaten. Absolutely delicious. The place had a great ambiance and is in a fantastic community. Highly recommend. This is worth the trip. Staff are friendly; the owner is great! We will return!

Werkstatt is the neighborhood restaurant of chef Thomas Ferlesch who has cooked in some of New York’s finest kitchens—he lives nearby. This means the restaurant has a wonderful combination of relaxed neighborhood vibe and excellent food. It’s somewhat out of the way on Coney Island Avenue—Uber or driving are probably the best ways to come although the subway and a walk are possible alternatives. Food consists of superb Viennese specialties with a chalk board of daily offerings. As a big schnitzel fan I usually have one of those. On a recent visit in addition to classic pork there was also chicken or the rare conch. For the first course there are the “best pretzels in New York,” delectable chicken liver pate and other delicious alternatives. Desserts are very good an include traditional Viennese specialties such as Linzer torte. For a touch of what makes New York special—world class food in a relaxed neighborhood setting—I highly recommend trekking to Werkstatt.

Very friendly hands-on couple own and operate this German restaurant featuring excellent wiener schnitzel, bratwurst, kielbasa main courses. Great variety of beer on tap. Parking is lousy, but that's not their fault. Park and take a walk, It will feel even better after dinner.

First visit to this charming German type restaurant, and we will back. Started off with a half carafe of wine, reasonably priced. Shared the chicken liver appetizer, which was delicious and ample enough for two to share. One of us had sauerbraten which was featured as a special, and I had pork schnitzel. Both were terrific, large portions with delicious sides. Too full for dessert, although the dessert menu had several interesting choices. Easy parking on the street. Highly recommend!

Went for the brunch. The meal with drinks was over $100 for two people - certainly not worth the price tag! There are no substitutions to the menu. The waitress suggested I could get a side of spätzle. I said sure, I saw it was $5. She asked if I wanted cheese. The price, then on the bill was $9. $4 for cheese! WOAH! Way overpriced for average Austrian food. And terrible music. I'd pass.

I had a really nice time here for dinner on Saturday night. The food, the service, everything was great. Since we ate in, we could start with a cocktail. Their pear martini was delicious. My wife had the special, the Ice Piercer which was good, and spicy. I think it was more about the weather than the movie Snowpiercer. My appetizer was the onion soup. It had french bread, with ample gruyere floating on top. I missed this soup, as it is better for dining in, and have not dined in for quite a while. It is very rich, and flavorful. About the only thing bad I can say about it, is it is very filling. It was had to finish the bucatini bolognese. I've eaten here scads of times, and can't say enough good things about them. Besides the fab drinks, the soups are always delightful. The pretzel is yummy, but only if you have enough people to share it. Besides the bucatini, the beef gulasch with spatzle is one of my fabs. When I want an alternative to red meat, the salmon with risooto and sprouts, mussels, and rosemary chicken with salad and fries, are all very good. They seem to have weathered the pandemic well. Food, service, and prices are all very good.

The food is delicious, plentiful and authentic! The atmosphere is welcoming and cozy and fun. Portions are quite generous - we didn't get to try dessert because of this! Prices were reasonable - really, considering portion size, VERY reasonable. One thing to know - the only card they take is American Express but they have an ATM on premises that only took a $2.75 fee. Our credit union didn't add on another fee so that wasn't bad. This place is a winner!

Sat at the corner of the bar with a friend. Had a delicious cocktail which led to snacks. The pretzel is highly recommended, but the fried mushrooms are mandatory! The staff makes you feel like it’s your local hangout pub. There were nice gluten free and dairy options for meals as well.

Werkstatt is a cozy, neighborhood restaurant with excellent German/Austrian cuisine. There are tables in the front, adjacent to a small bar, and a larger space in a separate dining room in the rear. All the Covid protocols are followed, including hand sanitizer on each table. We shared a starter of potato pancakes, which were delicious. They offer several types of schnitzel, a fairly large menu and daily specials. The desserts are homemade, and feature German specialties such as Marzipan stollen and sacher torte. Service is excellent and prices are reasonable. Parking is on the street. Highly recommend!

I heard that Werkstatt was good and had read about it in the New York Times article on 48 hours in Brooklyn: I finally went there with friends tonight. I am extremely happy to report that this lively restaurant with Austrian brews and Riesling on tap is a terrific addition to the lovely area of Prospect Park South. Delicious fare (we had the pork chop schnitzel), friendly staff, lively music with a hint of Vienna on the walls. I will definitely be back and will recommend Werkstatt to all! If only I got out of work early, I would love to try their happy hour ...and just getting a wiff of what looked like a hazelnut torte at the next table will definitely bring me back for dessert :-)

In a part of Brooklyn that was never German, yet Werkstatt is very German. The atmosphere is totally mixed breed, and the menu while primarily German-Austrian has lots of surprises, different spices including Asian, added to old European favorites,We started with Brussel Sprouts that were unique and a huge soft pretzel followed by sauerbraten & vienna schnitzel and ended with authentic Austrian ice cream and a marvelous pastry. The waitress, a Brooklyn native, blonde, tattooed and charming was very helpful. Very delightful experience.

This restaurant has a German/Austrian menu, which is unusual in itself. The schnitzel is delicious and authentic. They offer specials and the food is delicious. There is a dining area in the front, near the bar, and another in the rear. Service is good, and the prices are reasonable. Parking is on the street.

Great Austrian inspired food, and Stiegl Beer! Friendly fun service as well. Great sausage, and very good sauerkraut.

A great spot in Brooklyn offering some different food options from the usual. The ambiance is nice -- there is a bar area at the front and quieter seating area at the back. the service was very good and always checking in with us, even though we were a large group of 12-15. Though the price isn't low, the food is worth it - both in taste and portion size. You do get what you paid for. Wide variety of food offerings and also beers/wines. I would definitely go again!

Total rave for this hip and cosy newish Austrian eatery. Six+ stars for food, ambience, service, and friendliness of staff. While we came for brunch, we could have stayed the afternoon until dinner, the menu for which is tantilizing and guarantees a return. Every offering for the astonishingly affordable brunch was tempting, and the dishes our group ordered were consumed and shared in foodie-friendly fashion. Completely satiating and tasty, the fare begs mindful eating. And just for kicks, how about dessert?!

It's a bitter cold night, but we were instantly warmed by greetings from co-owner Robin and her friendly staff. Our party of 4 was promptly seated, treated to a tasting of the wine offered, then had to choose between the many specials of the night as well as a very interesting menu. We loved everything ordered: pretzel and also chicken liver mousse for appetizers then risotto, chicken paprikash and schnitzel for mains. We topped it all off with a chocolate and hazelnut crepe for dessert to share and are so excited to think of another trip to this great find.

Austria comes to Brooklyn in this delightful restaurant. Cozy, great service plus exceptional menu options combined with moderate prices make this a neighborhood go-to as well a journey worth making. Did I mention the beer selection/prices?

We ate here before a concert at the Kings theater which is only about half mile away. It worked out perfectly for us. We arrived early and parking was not an issue. We met the owners ( a couple) upon our arrival and they were very pleasant. The staff were very helpful and brought drinks right away. The fried crispy mushrooms are quite good. They brought back memories of a long closed German restaurant I went to when I first started eating at restaurants. I ordered the mushrooms every time we went there. The pork schnitzel is excellent, Kale soup was very good and the roasted beet salad was fresh and well prepared. The menu has quite a few choices of meat, fish and vegetables, so everyone has a choice. They have quite a few choices of beer and wine (yes, wine) on tap. It is not fancy at all and the furniture is rustic, kind of like beer garden idea I guess. Have the apple strudel with whipped cream for dessert, it's very tasty and doesn't seem filling for some reason. I only wish we lived closer but we will definitely be back. I'd go back just for the mushrooms!

Werkstatt is an Austrian restaurant that features a fairly large menu, including various schnitzels and specials. We shared an appetizer of potato pancakes which were very good. The entrees we chose were weiner schnitzel and the special of sauerbraten, both excellent. The wine list is extensive and the server was well versed on the selections, but somewhat on the pricey side. They did, however, have the German gluhwein, warm spiced red wine, which was quite good especially on a cold night. Dessert was the linzer torte, a little on the dry side. Service was excellent, prices comparable and parking is on the street.

We came here on a whim at the recommendation of a friend. Within easy walking distance of our house, we wanted a quick and delicious meal. Not only was the food wonderful (I had Wiener Schnitzel, my husband had the burger), but also the ambiance, soundtrack and staff made for an allover enjoyable and unique experience. The restaurant is just a block from Church Avenue's burgeoning dining scene, but is in a world of its own. Like an island the restaurant is surrounded by car repair shops, gas stations and construction sites, but residential is also nearby and I hope that gastronomes will flock here. Sit in the back room with the brick walls and wood burning fireplace.

Great Viennese fare hewing to tradition but with a slightly modern twist. The giant pretzel is a must, as is the wiener gemiscter salad. House made spetzle also excellent as is the apple strudel. Gruner on tap!

I lived in Austria between Tirol and Vienna for a couple of years. We were super excited to check this place out after reading in NYTimes. Wow, what a great place! A Authentic homemade food, great hospitality and really cool backroom with a nice fire oven and collection of decorative artifs from Vienna. Throughout our meal we were greeted by Thomas, the owner and treated to a delicious Topfen Cake. We had the gulash with homemade fresh spaetzle and my husband had the sausages. Both delicious! Food was so great and brought so many good memories, we even brought home the apple strudel to eat the following day. Honest great food! Highly recommend

Loved this place! The green eggs dish was awesome as well as the French toast. The brunch comes with coffee and beer! If you have enough room, try the pretzel! Staff is very nice.
Good food with pleasant atmosphere.
I've been there twice for dinner. Both times the food was really good. I specially like the chicken with the schnitzel. It's one of the few restaurants in the area where the music isn't really loud. You can have a conversation! Service was good. Definitely worth giving it a try.
