Beautiful Irish owned bar

By 432patrickh |

We stopped here in the afternoon after walking around Greenwich Village and had drinks and bar food. The Bar was beautifully decorated and the place was buzzing. great atmosphere and we were served by a lovely Irish girl from dublin who had a great personality and was excellent at her job we had beers, food and cocktails and spent a lovely couple of hours here. The clientel was of a nice sort and we shared conversations with some American locals. A great end to a lovely afternoon sightseeing.

We were received with Such a worm Welcoming Smile!!! It was so perfect , we were coming from a freezing cold New York day! A varied Menu, very tasty healthy food and a very friendly service. Nice ambience and super well located. Loved it!

Had the mussels, duck flat bread, and mac and cheese. All were very good. Lively atmosphere for a Friday night.

A little bit of Ireland....

We had a wonderful time at this pub. It is so welcoming, the bartenders are warm and friendly, the drinks great and the food fantastic! We felt like we were in our favorite pub in Galway!! And Andrea, our waitress, was outstanding!!! Thank you for making a great evening even better!!!

My Daughter Made a Great Choice for Lunch

By MsCasualTravelor |

While in NYC visiting my daughter, we went for lunch here -she has goen a handful of times, so I knew it would be good. I had the avacado - egg dish, as did she. The blueberry muffins were yummy, as was our main dish. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere set for the upcoming Halloween holiday. I will definitely return here, but will ask to have a real glass for water to drink, instead of the shotglasses we (and everyone else) were given (needed to be refilled each time we took a drink..)

Lovely meal and service

By SRM911 |

Four of us visited on Sunday. Shared starters of chicken sliders and Onion Rings, lovely. For mains we chose NY Strip steak, Chicken Pot pie, Mushroom Burger and the Fish with blackened rice all were lovely. Our server Nick was really helpful. Bottle of wine half price on s Sunday nice bonus. Really worth a for great food, service and decor.

we left hungry

By jerseyjazz |

The menu promises hearty pub food, but our party of five came away wishing we'd eaten elsewhere. Fish and chips and chicken pot-pie were so-so. Cheese plate is a huge rip-off, served with tooth-cracking burnt hard toast that obliterated all flavors. We could have bought twice the amount of cheese at Trader Joe, eaten it in Wash. Square Park, and it would have been better. No greens in sight; no bread served. Best entree was a radish salad; how sad is that? Skip the sangria--a few drops of rose wine in lemonade. Even the coffee, supposedly an Italian brand, was mediocre. British cuisine was never noted for its greatness, but White Oak Tavern drives it into the ground. The place got very noisy by 7pm. The bathrooms, accessible only by a steep flight of steps, are among the weirdest I've encountered in Manhattan. A row of candles lined the communal sink, which was like a horse trough. The wait person was British-snippy, too. When we asked about specials, she tossed her hair and proclaimed "Everything on the menu is special." If only! The person who bussed the tables was nice at least. Maybe White Oak Tavern is OK for drinks and appetizers, but for a real meal, I'll direct my hard-earned dollars elsewhere. We chose it because it's near the Skirball Center at NYU, but there's plenty else within walking distance.

Give it a try - well worth it

By esme199 |

Visited twice on a short visit to NY. Charming tavern (or what we would call a pub) Staff very helpful and friendly - making us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Good pub food, although we are vegetarian, and the menu is not really veggie friendly, we managed to get sandwiches etc to suit with no problems - and the sauvignon blanc went down a treat. Nice and chilled, will definitely be back.

Great Burger!

By RichardLovesDining |

Not a burger that's hard to bite into but has all the right stuff: thick cut bacon, genuine mid-rare, great aoli on a toasted, buttered bun....and fries. Perfect portion size. All to be enjoyed within earshot of NYU film students waxing spectacular.

Located near Broadway just eat of Washington Sq. Good food and beer.

By Randy J |

Had a nice IPO, the girls sampled a few cocktails and wine. Cheeseburgers were good. Wings also good, salads and Brussels sprouts were also good. Pork belly very tasty. Great location, great bar, good local crowd. Recommend.

Awesome brunch and great service/atmosphere

By danibrig |

I really enjoyed my meal here. I came for brunch one weekend and the service was very good -- they give you free brownies to start off the meal! The menu had some great options and the food was very tasty - I had an amazing omelet with a side salad. I definitely recommend as their prices are also very fair given where the restaurant is. Most other places in the area look just as nice but are more expensive!

My local away from my local

By Robert C |

Great surroundings in traditional pub setting...all wood seating and bar. Extremely friendly and professional staff and a massive scotch selection. This place is a must, can't wait to visit in the summer.

Very enjoyable but then they reported me to Open Table for missing my reservation

By Sewah |

I had a very enjoyable evening here. Nothing outstanding, but the prices were very reasonable and the food was fine. I had a reservation for 6:15, but showed early with one of my party to see if we could sit at the bar until the rest of our party arrived. They actually seated us, which was great, and a pleasant evening was had by all. I really liked the decor and atmosphere, and the service was quick but not too quick. I was treating and told my party of 4 that they were a cheap date by NY standards. But then I arrived back at my hotel to find a nasty-gram from Open Table, telling me that the restaurant had reported me for not honoring my reservation. Umm, my Visa card would beg to differ. I might be persuaded to eat there again, but I won't bother with making a reservation if I do.

Near perfect

By Joe D |

We start off with the ambiance. Simply great. Best music with an overview of classic soul and r and b to modern delicacies. Decor and bar is perfect in typical English pub setting yet new and clean. (Nice twist). Food tries a bit hard to be cool (nothing plain, always something fancy like peaches with burrata), yet it's excellent. I heartily recommend.

Great place to Eat

By Jane R |

This location was close to our hotel so we checked it out one night. The food was excellent, the beer was well recommended and we sang along to the music. Left with a smile on my face. Wonderful place for a drink and a bite to eat.

What a gem!

By Camila120428 |

Stumbled upon this pub on a cold winter night and was instantly warmed by the wine, live music and excellent food! I started with the broccoli rabe flat bread and had fish and chips for main course. Both really really good! I hope to have the opportunity to go back! Our server was very helpful too which makes the experience even better.

Quite Good

By ColonelPSU |

We walked in here while visiting NYC. It seemed like a good spot for a quick lunch. We were pleasantly surprised. My wife had a BLT, and I had a steak sandwich. Both were excellent, and the service was fine.

Love it here!

By Amanda R |

Came here with a friend for drinks after visiting a pop-up in the area. The whole aesthetic and menu was just so cool! I was torn between a few drinks, so the bartender suggested the flight, and it did not disappoint! I typically default to a Manhattan when I can’t choose, so it was perfect for me. I also ordered popcorn, which was delicious and fresh. I’ll be back for sure!

Great pub, superb food!

By KerryLDoncaster |

We stumbled across the White Oak whilst wandering the streets of Greenwich Village and decided to have dinner there. I had the most tasty fettuccini dish (probably the best meal I had during my week's stay), whilst my family enjoyed the fish and chips, burger and vegetarian options. All were delicious and the service was excellent! Highly recommend!

Shocking

By FarAway46898 |

Dark bar with terrible service, waited 25 mins for drinks that were wrong when eventually made, no compensation offered, don't come here, loads of other better bars around

Great Place For Lunch

By Helen |

Called in here for lunch just before doing a guided walking tour of Greenwich Village. The owner, a lovely gent from Dublin, couldn't have been more welcoming, taking us to our table and even fetching us a couple of sample beers to try before we ordered our drinks to see if we liked them first. The menu was quite extensive and we both enjoyed what we ate, the host and staff both checking everything was to our liking. We will definitely return next time we visit New York.

Awful Food

By melsian |

Friends invited us for dinner, it was very quiet only a few tables occupied. We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, it was awful, had a weird taste. Our hosts were trying so hard to give us a lovely evening that we felt awful and therefore didn't complain. May be we should have. The desert, chocolate brownie was a bit dry.

great cocktails and beer!

By manzur13 |

Great bourbon, bourbon cocktails and beer!!! got the ricotta cheese appetizer, I could get it again any time! staff was friendly even tho they were quite busy.

Stay away!

By Mary G |

We went with family and friends who lived nearby because of the great review. The waitress was friendly until we had a problem with a burger that did not come correctly cooked or with the right toppings. When we asked the waitress to replace the burger, she said that the kitchen was “slammed” (half the tables were unoccupied), and that they could not replace his burger but would take it off the bill. We were blown away! We shared our dinners and left. Clearly, no management and a temperamental chef so stay away...ps great dessert place next door.

Great spot to grab food and a drink after a show

By Michael S |

Had a great dinner there and I was also impressed with the bourbon selection. Reasonably priced for some very hard to find bourbons.

Best of British in NY

By Kitten196 |

Stumbled across this posh pub after a day's sightseeing! Enough of a choice to indicate all fresh -family of 4 all chose differently & non of us were disappointed! Shared ribs & sticky toffee pud -again delicious!Great service helpful but not overbearing! wine was amazing but at $12.50 a glass it should be!!!

Interesting Choices in a Pretty Place

By tweedybird26 |

Friendly service included offering to bring a taste of wine that I was considering, good food and a lovely setting. This is a well located pub style restaurant that had a somewhat limited but pleasing menu. I enjoyed my grain salad and my husband's chicken pot pie was very good although it had too much sage for my taste. A little noisy but that is expected in this area.

Great food

By gadio67 |

We made a reservation in advance to that popular restaurant. The food wes great, and the service quick and efficient.

A great pub!

By andrew ross w |

We visited as a group of friends for drinks. Loved the friendly and laid back atmosphere. We were served by Chris, who was absolute star!!! A great pub!

Not Too Shabby

By Jenn5225NYC |

Back Story: I used to frequent this location when it was M&G's, in fact most of my colleagues did as well. It was a great pub/sports bar where we could enjoy lunch over some games and a beer with friends. Chef and staff was fantastic. I was skeptical to come back and try White Oak. So glad I did. I love how they redesigned the space, I think the neighborhood needed a proper bar that the mature, working adults can retreat to and escape from being swallowed up by NYU coeds that swarm the area. I came with a friend to have a drink and catch up. We only had wine and an appetizer each so I cannot give a proper review on the menu. I had the chicken liver pate which was not bad, but not fantastic either. In this instance I think less is more, I usually get pate because I want to taste the liver, the creamy, nuttiness it exudes slathered onto a nicely toasted piece of bread - which really is the vehicle in my opinion. Bacon marmalade? Not necessary. It overpowered the flavors I was hoping for in the pate. That's just me being picky because it's one of my favorite dishes. We were there for happy hour, enjoyed a few glasses of wine in a nice atmosphere and the service was good as well. Our server was Peter and he was friendly, very patient, attentive but not too overbearing. I would return and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice bar in the area.

Great pub, best toilets in NYC

By flattopsteve |

Had already eaten before we visited this pub, at the gateway to the park and village area. Such a shame as the menu looked very good. Only had drinks, but very festively decorated, with friendly barmaid, and nice atmosphere. Toilets are by far the best of any pub we visited in all of NYC

Great beer, great food, great pub!

By sugerglider |

Really liked this pub. Comfortable, upscale but relaxed place to drink and eat. Good selection of beer. The fishcakes were the best I've ever had and the hamburger was good but could have been a bit bigger. Would return.

Terrible

By MannyTy |

Stopped in for lunch. Had the white oak lager beer on tap which was flat. And the Cuban sandwich was more like a pickle sandwich. Only a few small shreds of meat were on the sandwich. Won’t be back.

A lucky guess

By Dave K |

We had been to NY for my daughters graduation and killing sometime before heading to the airport. We stumbled onto the White Oak Tavern for lunch. They were busy but still had seating for 6 people. They have a good selection of beers and wine. The lunch menu has plenty of choices. My wife is a vegetarian so she ordered the portobello mushroom burger. I did not have breakfast so I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and a side of the Mac & Cheese. The Mac was super good. I had to keep my daughter from digging her spoon in when I wasn’t looking. Very cheesy with a nice crunchy crust on top. The burger was cooked just right, a nice pink medium. They also had a very good Arnold Palmer. Not to much lemonade, just right. The rest of the group had pulled pork sandwich and BLT sandwich’s. The service was great, very accommodating and helpful. Great place for lunch.

Wish it was my local ..

By LondonLockwood |

We are visitors from UK and had a fantastic afternoon here . It reminded me of great neighbourhood bars we used to have .. Super friendly staff .. Great home cooking .. Good beer and wine selections. Nice music on the go too .. only wish we had found White Oak for our thanksgiving meal !! Can’t wait to return on our next visit .. Cheers !! Recommended.. Enjoy !!

Great salad

By Vaughn68 |

Had the chopped salad with grilled chicken. Not a real complicated thing but it was done exactly the way a salad should be. Cold chopped salad, vegetables, hot chicken breast, not over dressed and an ice cold bowl.

GLACIALLY slow

By JSD47630 |

Must be staffing problem but dinner took 50 minutes to get to the table. One server and she was hopping. Food was good once it arrived but the wait made it a so so visit.

Mr frankie brooks

By frankiebrooks |

Lunched at the bar and had the baby back ribs, those puppies fell right off the bone. The rib sauce was delicious. The bartender was a sweet young lady. I highly recommend this joint for lunch. I hope to come back for dinner soon.

Great burger!

By claudia_marco_roma |

Typical New York pub in Greenwich Village. We ended up there for lunch on our last day in Manhattan. Elegant setting, professional staff and delicious burgers. We expected to pay more, but in the end, the bill was in line with the prices paid the previous days at other, much less distinct New York venues.

good eats, friendly service but super loud

By ketelup4olives |

I liked the décor, setting, food and service but the room where the bar is located was SUPER loud. Lots of attention to detail and food was as described. Enjoyed the fish and chips, burger and the pork rib eye was a standout. Drinks were solid and tasty, just wish it was a bit less loud and it would be really good.

Wish we’d found it sooner!

By Jo H |

What a great place! We love attention to detail, atmosphere and good food and this place has it in abundance. Jose was our server and he was great, making us feel at home and making sure we had everything we wanted. One slight grievance we had was that the mushroom Bolognese didn’t state it had chorizo in. Fortunately my daughter asked if it was vegetarian (she felt a little silly asking) but it was a good job she did because Jose double checked for her. She still had other options on the menu though. If the drink of your choice isn’t on the menu just ask - they’re sure to have it!

Good cocktails, nice bar

By Intl_Woman_o_Mystery |

White Oak Tavern is one of our go to spots after work. When they have them, their roasted brussel sprouts are probably the best thing on the menu. The bar tenders are attentive. The bathrooms are beautiful.

A perfect finale

By smithherlong06 |

Our last night in New York, we wanted a quiet, yet quality dining experience. We tried the White Oak and were so pleased. An old world charm, amazing drinks, and super food. My wife said it was the best fish and chips she ever ate. Next trip it is a must return for us.

A good lunch

By Xavier L |

This tavern just off Washington Square has a broad range of draft beers, had one called Brooklyn something which was delicious. The burgers are excellent and come with good fries. The only disappointment was the Caesar salad, bland dressing, moist croutons and tasteless chicken. Good friendly service and Wi-Fi available.

EXCELLENT YUM YUM

By Kosta M |

Right before going to see the Blue man group. We decided to have dinner at the White Oak Tavern and like I said YUM YUM EXCELLENT all around not one complaint from our group delicious burgers, and fish & chips also they don't skimp on there drinks by the time we finished dinner I was feeling pretty good :) The place is nicely decorated inside a lot to look at We were there June 3 2017

Old-fashioned atmosphere in University part of City

By Julie J |

I love this place. The atmosphere is wonderful - dim lighting, but not dark. They have a lovely old-fashioned bar. Service was incredible and food amazing. The cheese plate and brussels sprouts were the best, but we enjoyed all of it.

Nice atmosphere and good food!

By philbond410 |

It's a very nice atmosphere with a lot of specialty type of cocktails. The lighting was very dark and difficult to read the menus. Food was all very good of the items but the baby back ribs were a little tough and not as tender as most places that you order them. Caesar salad was delicious.

Good lunch reasonable prices

By jdms33 |

Met a colleague here for lunch. Staff was very friendly and we both enjoyed our meals. Service was fast too. The tables are a little close together but I suspect it's more about the bar scene then the food. It was also a little cold sitting by the door but once we said something they turned on the heat in the entryway and that problem was solved. I would go back.

Great bar near NYU

By Passport Always On Hand |

Great upscale bar usually devoid of the younger university crowd (except grad students). Fun bartenders, above average food, nice vibe.

Nice Neighborhood Joint

By rbs4all |

Found this place reviewed on Yelp & TripAdvisor...Located in a nice neighborhood in the Village - - described as a gastropub and that fits well. Interesting menu with good burgers, flatbread pizza and some creative drinks made this an enjoyable stop in NYC. Spicy Margarita was a standout. One real disappointment was the Mac & Cheese - dry and tasteless. Really expected more given the prior reviews. Service was mixed - we felt a little rushed with entrees showing before apps. And one of the servers was working his rear-end off . Boozy donuts are light & delicious so save a little room and share with your friends..

Great food and atmosphere

By FineFeatherTravel |

We were staying in the neighborhood so decided to hit this spot for a casual dinner. The atmosphere, service, and food were excellent. Would definitely go again. Great place to meet up with friends or have a date.

White oak tavern happy accident

By KatieColorado2017 |

We stopped here on a whim and sure glad we did. Excellent burger and onion rings were delicious. This is one to put on your list. What a happy accident for us.

White Oak synonym for pulled pork.

By LindaA512 |

A couple of New York University students at Washington Square recommended White Oak Tavern which is just a couple of blocks from the park. They were dead on. Each dish was ample and tasty and the pulled pork sandwich was a knock out. A local treasure, modest in appearance; reasonable prices and excellent food.

Great Place for a Night Hat

By SallyLuu |

Hubby and I love to travel, and when we do, we oftentimes end our busy travel day having a Nightcap at a neat local establishment. The funny thing is, years ago hubby made this joke about having a "Night Hat" instead of saying Nightcap - he was referring to Leslie Nielsen's line in the movie Smoking Gun, and the joke just stuck and hung around in our vocabulary for years. Now.....Sometimes when we want to round out a perfect travel day.... we'll go out for a Night Hat. Well, last year we were in NYC and stayed at a hotel just up the street from White Oak. One evening we decided to take a stroll to find a neat place for our Night Hat. We walked passed White Oak Tavern, peeked into the window and immediately knew this was the place. We enjoyed the ambiance so much that I knew when I came back to NYC that I just had to take my daughter. So this month I found myself back in New York City and I knew I was going to take my daughter to white oak tavern. The décor is so neat. The glorious old light fixtures, The wall paper, the old books, The old hardwood floors, the red velvet curtains.....The decor is spot on. Totally old saloon look. Any minute you think Mae West is gonna show up with her ruffled saloon dress And say "hey big boy, come up and see me sometime". The ambience was a little better when hubby and I went last year because it was dark outside and the old saloon feel was really magnified. I took daughter for a late-afternoon Night Hat (the sun was still out) and she still loved it. Whether you stop in to white oak tavern for a bite to eat or just stop in for a night hat, I'm certain you'll love it .

Great spot and Great staff!

By Patt L |

My friends and I were looking for a spot after visiting Washington sq park. Luckily, we saw this place which had tables outside. We were a group of 5 people and were sitting at the bar. The bartender, Javier was very helpful and gave good recommedations for the whiskey collection and the tap beers. As a group of people who doesn't drink a lot of American whiskey, we were very impressed. The food was amazing as well. We had two salads, 2 burgers, pot pie and half chicken. It was so amazing. With so many other restaurants around there who were not seating us, this place with their staff and the bartender made us feel we were the only customers when they had so many.

Just like home - almost

By RHL |

Came across this pub while wandering around Greenwich Village, nice atmosphere and family feel at Saturday lunchtime. Great booths for a little privacy if you need it, otherwise a buzzy place with good reliable food and drinks. I'll definitely go back if in the area.

Excellent meal steps away from Washington Square Park

By Michael K |

White Oak offers excellent service from the moment you are greeted at the door to the time you leave. The food was extremely tasty and came out in a timely manner, we ordered the Caesar Salad, Chicken entree and Bacon Burger. All were prepared with delicious flavors. A must stop !

Hidden Gem on Waverley

By Mark P |

Was not disappoint in the least, every dish was excellent! Try the mussels in coconut milk and green curry...wow! It was an appetizer but could have been a main course their were so many! I had duck in an Italian sauce awesome! My friend also enjoyed his dishes.

Nice location, poor service

By zomzie |

We went after visiting Washington Square and not knowing much about the area. The food was pretty good, but the service was terrible. They never returned to fill our drinks and they seemed real disinterested in the clientele.

Tavern in the Village

By Geoff W |

Loved the ambiance and decor of this tavern. I didn't eat here, only drank. And drank. And drank some more. This place was a short stroll from Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. It was raining a little this day and The White Oak was the perfect place to chill for awhile. And of course, the bar tenders were these 2 attractive Irish gals which just enhanced the experience. A good time was had by all!

Ask for their bourbon bible

By Mary P |

Steampunk English tavern meets modern era. Loved everything about this place from their unique bar to their intimate booths and decor, to the food and dessert, to the trough sink in the unisex bathroom downstairs, to the service. I went about 4 months ago so don't remember what I got, but everyone at my table enjoyed their meal. But LET'S TALK ABOUT THEIR BOURBON BIBLE. Totally made my evening. Don't want to spoil it, but it's presented in a leather bound book with about 30 pages of lovingly, beautifully described bourbon varieties. Sadly don't remember what I got, but I don't think you could go wrong. Finished up the night with a 5min Uber to Terra Blues around the corner.

Great Service

By GDKD |

Ross and Antonio made us feel very welcome in this laid back, authentic NYC pub/diner. Great location in quiet university district near Union Square and the Flatiron. Be sure to drop in if you are in the area.

PUB GRUB

By Trog55 |

great little pub doing some good food $100 for 3 of us with a drink, very friendly, great service. not a bad selection of whisky's and th greman pilsner is really good ( sorry forgot the name of it )

Lovely "English" style bar

By GaryandSandra |

Lovely bar. Very English in appearance. Food was great. The white oak ale was the best beer of the week and believe me I've tried loads!!! Service great and friendly staff.

Relaxed brunch is quiet garden setting

By Mancbush |

Went yesterday for brunch as a party of 5. Staff were very attentive. We were there around noon , so it was still quiet. Lovely little garden, very relaxed. We had the Eggs Maryland eggs (with crab cakes) and Eggs Benedict - all reported as delicious, eggs the exact right consistency, hollandaise sauce very well prepared. Brunch came with delicious herbed potatoes and a little side salad. We also had both the peach and the mango bellini - very nice. I would definitely go here again and recommend it to others. Chris, our server, was delightful, as was the lovely Elaine.

Energetic fun spot

By Nate501 |

My wife and I stopped in for a quick meal before a jazz show. The service was good. The food good. The restaurant/bar was very lively with a non-millennial crowd. Despite it's location on the NYU campus, it isn't a student haunt. I recommend for those in the area. By the way, make reservations for dinner, they are needed.

Like an English Pub

By Amy V |

Lovely atmosphere. Although with my 50 year old eyes, the menu was hard to read in the dim light. Be sure to check out the restrooms. Very cool--although my teenage son found them a little eerie. Anyway, the food and the beverages were very good. I had the spicy cauliflower and my family had burgers. All very good.

Disappointing Meals

By Tim R |

Hamburger and dark beers were very good. The server was attentive. But beware, the Roasted Half Chicken was only half of a small chicken breast and very tough. The Shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta was starchy and clumpy. We couldn't finish our meals because they were that bad. Definitely selected the wrong meals!

NYU neighborhood surprise

By travelfortheatre |

Was visiting family... walking near NYU and Washington Square Park. Took a chance on White Oak Tavern because it was convenient Pleasantly surprised by menu that featured the usual Bruger and fries but also mussels in curry broth, duck confit flat bread, harvest ancient grains salad , steak and bangers and mash Very attentive prompt service, good selection at the bar...'felt like an old English Pub Family and student friendly. Not too pricey. Will recommend to friends nearby

Highly Recommend!

By M M |

We had the chicken pot pie (husband says best he’s ever had) and quinoa salad ...dressing was yummy! Staff is friendly and super attentive. Great place near NYU!

A great friendly bar. Say Hi to Joe !

By LynneChris |

Went to New York Nov 15 and came across this lovely bar. Chilled and relaxed. Staff were very friendly (Jonny & Owen) and so were the locals! We were befriended by the "actual New Yorker " Joe and his dog Bear, who made us very welcome (Thank you Joe). Already planning our next trip to New York and we will definitely be visiting this bar.

Good pub food

By Peter F |

We wanted a nice post theater meal in the Village. We had a great little meal here. We started with nice deviled eggs which were tasty. My wife had a delicious pot pie and I had the house burger. Highlight of the meal was delicious Sancerre served by the glass.

Great Food and Ambience

By James M |

Just back from lunch at the White Oak Tavern with colleagues. Imagine a place that serves great food and service in the village. Now imagine you're there and you can actually enjoy the food at a relaxed pace and hear the others in your party speaking while you do. That's White Oak!

Great yle Pub

By Pete R |

We didn't eat here on this visit, just sat down for a much needed cold drink after walking through the heat of NYC for most of the day. Great service and a great choice of beers.

Great lunch

By Elaine H |

We came across this Tavern whilst walking through Greenwich Village. Staff were very nice and welcoming. The food was really good. We had the Ceasar Salad and Avocado on rye with bacon.

Outstanding pub experience

By Cusetravellady |

We sat at the bar and enjoyed cocktails and the large whiskey seclection. We then took a table for dinner. The tavern is warm and cozy with dark wood and romantic lighting. Our food was delicious and the service was very attentive. Reasonable prices, too. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a drink or meal near NYU or Washington Square.

The most delicious egg dish I've ever eaten

By virginiatravels2014 |

Delicious. Great service. Their version of eggs Benedict on brown bread toast with avocado was the most delicious breakfast dish I have ever eaten anywhere. And the bacon - I'm from Virginia where we are known for our bacon - and the bacon was the most delicious bacon I have ever eaten. The service was top notch - very attentive, friendly, and quick - but not intrusive. It is a lovely, casual restaurant. We can't wait to go on our next trip.

New York English Pub

By Amy D |

We stumbled upon this location as we strolled through the streets of Manhattan. We decided to stop by for a quick lunch and happy hour drinks before heading out to our scheduled engagement. Very spacious corner pub with your typical English vibes and decor.

Very Nice Pub

By Linda M |

A group of us split into 3 tables. Excellent staff. The food was well prepares, people had sandwiches, fish and chips, pot pie and many also had adult drinks. Prices very reasonable. Recommend.

Nice octopus and beer tasters. Good Beer ‘flight’

By Mark D |

Came here for evening meal with business colleagues. Got a flight of beers which are tasters and they had a good selection of draught beers which were very tasty. Had a starter - octopus - and a vegetable - broccoli- which were both very good tasting and so I can’t fault the quality although either were substantial - which was ok for me but maybe not for others. Good service and so recommend

Great after theatre meal

By TNMoniz |

Stopped here with my 10yr old after going to Blue Man Group. What a cute place. Loved the décor and atmosphere in here. Got a great booth seat in a window which was comfortable. Service was attentive and extremely friendly. They offer a kids menu with several great options but also have a wonderful regular menu. We had the burrata with peaches and mac & cheese to start and I am getting hungry just thinking about it again. For the main I had the duck flat bread, it was nice but I would have done without the lemon they put on it as it gave a slightly off flavor. My son had the kids burger and said it was amazing. Cocktails were fresh and not made from a mix, so I was in heaven. Definitely try the spicy margarita, it's refreshing and delicious. We would definitely return on our next visit to NY.

stick to the bottles only

They broke my heart! I am so glad that they are doing well. Past businesses there have not done so well and what they now offer could be such a nice addition to the neighborhood. But what I saw was appalling. Foreshadowing was how the bartenders seemed to be running around like a chicken without a head on while making many of the drinks. Did not matter to my but I found it odd. While I’m not a bartender, I've certainly sat at enough bars to know this was not organized properly. I ordered a screwdriver. Bartender ran around the entire bar 3x to find the juice. Then he have me grapefruit juice. After I tasted it and confirmed it, I asked for what I ordered and the guy was not so willing, saying it was correct. I felt like he could not find OJ so this is what he did. After he looked at what he poured he apologized and spent another few minutes finding the OJ. It could have been good as they had Tropicana, but he did not even swirl it for a second so all I got was the watery top. Disappointing, but still ok. But then it happened… We were sitting at the end of the bar and could see everything that was going on. The same bartender (maybe Irish accent) seemed to only pretend to clean the glasses… The glasses barely touched the spinning brushed and he never rinsed them. So they were dirty and had soap on them. It was gross. Then a woman stepped behind the bar to help as things seemed frantic and she properly washed some glasses but knocked some down on the drying rack and broke some of them. I was hoping that they would remove the other glasses, rewash and make sure there was no glass in them but no. We were completely grossed out and left without ordering any food. So unless you want the wrong ingredients, dirty glasses, with soap and glass in your drink I would suggest only getting bottles of beer. The place had a crowd – so others must have a better experience, but this was ours. I really hope they get their act together – organize the bar, have some supervision and a better bartender.

Like the Village used to be!

We had brunch with a friend who graduated from NYU with my husband. We wanted a place with interesting food but also quiet enough for conversation and maybe with some authentic atmosphere. We enjoyed everything- the food, the atmosphere- wooden booths that had been there forever but were still well kept up. We all ordered different food. Our friend went for an avocado toast avoiding cholesterol , I had a tossed green salad with plenty of veggies and my husband ordered the White OakBurger. The men had a wide choice of interesting beers . My husband is a home brewer but he was impressed. Dessert was a delicious cake. We were there for at least two hours . When we left we were reminded that the location was ideal- right near Washington Square Park which we all remembered well. There is always something going on. The location is close to subways too. So many of the brunch spots we knew seem to be closed but White Oak hangs on.

A great local waterhole

This very busy tavern/pub is not just a bar, but a pub with good food and service. Just a fun place to meet friends have a drink ,appetizer or A good meal. Limited menu but very good choices. Half chicken or fish and chips a must. Location, steps away from NYU. Young college crowd, just a fun place. Not pricey for a NY tavern. Try this one, you will be back again.

Excellent Breakfast in a pub in Greenwich Village

Went to Greenwich Village for breakfast and found this place. Looks and feels like a good quality English pub. Service and food were excellent. Place was full with great atmosphere

Fantastic Tavern is the West Village

We stumbled upon The White Oak Tavern by chance late on a Monday afternoon, initially just for drinks , but then our party expanded twice , so we decided to settle in and have some dinner while there. Javi , the bartender was exceptional , took care of us the whole time , even though our table was on the floor , next to the bar . Front of house was also exceptional, I didn’t get his name, sorry. He accommodated us by adding an adjacent table to make our group comfortable, much appreciated. Food was amazing , we can’t wait to go back , and try some of the other mouth watering options on the menu . Bravo to all involved , great corner space , great decor, layout and menu offerings , we will be back .

Cute Brunch Spot

Good Food in a Cute (nicely remodeled) pub. FYI, they don't do anything special for Birthdays (even when it's mentioned when making he reservation). The food prices are reasonable, and the servers are very friendly. Clean!

Duck is in and so are the Doughnuts

By Captcuda |

After a day long seminar at NYU three of us were ready to enjoy a well earned meal in town. By far we were the least hipster and upscale college graduate wannabes, but it offered some fun people watching with great food and acceptable drink. Ricotta crostini and deviled eggs had good flavor for a nice start. Duck confit with crispy skin was the winner of the table. We split the rich and luxurious doughnuts to cap the night. Cocktails need to come to maturity, not quite balanced, but it hit the spot after a long day. Will return when in the neighborhood.

Great watering hole close to Washington Sq

Good range of beers and wines. Bar menu looked good. If you need a rest this is a good place to stop. Happy hour 11am-5pm

Happy Hour!!

By CaVSheffield |

Three of us visited for a meal on Sunday evening, crispy belly pork, chicken pot pie and pan seared salmon. All were delicious and nicely presented. We didn't realise it was happy hour til we got there, what a nice surprise, all bottles of wine half price!! Good atmosphere, definitely recommend.

Nice place for a quick drink

By Mariela M |

We were there in a very cold night. I drink bluepoint beer and my friend a gin tonic. We ordered some kind of bruschettas with caramelized onions and bits of bacon. A good fingerfood for a quick drink. We loved the place and we certainly will come back!!

Nice pub dining in an NYU desert

By David-from-CT |

Dark wood faux London Victorian pub - free WiFi I had a nice meal at the bar. Friendly waitstaff busy making custom drinks . Food was well presented with some cute touches. A good place to eat that while right in NYU-land isn't 'student-ey'. Good selection of beers on tap and some great looking cocktails. The pot pie looked great - I had gastropub fish and chips served on a bit of wood with the fries in a mint julep cup. Cute.

We'll Be Back

Great food in a popular place. Old pub decor. Deviled Eggs and the Metballs are wonderful. Great bar and very friendly and efficient staff.

Nice Warm Place

By Handyrandy63 |

This place was a couple of blocks away from our hotel, The Washington Square Hotel. It was a warm place to stop into for a drink while walking around the "Village" on a sunny, but cool windy day. We made reservations to eat there the next evening and it was great. We both had a NY steak and shared a bottle of wine. We met and talked to a guy who had his adopted rescue dog with him. It was a great conversation and the dog was very well behaved.

Good location, great staff

Staying nearby, the White Oak was recommended as a place to get something to eat. Very nice pub. Very nice staff. I had chicken pot pie that was delicious along with a drink special the PB and J. Pabst Blue Ribbon and a Jameson shot. Very fun place

Great on a Sunday

By soulefultraveler |

Old style place in a great location. On Sunday there was 1/2 bottles of wine, with live music. Family atmosphere. Ancient grain salad was fabulous.

Awesome selection of whiskey

By Reactor1966 |

One of the best selections I've seen in NYC. Great bartenders who know how to mix their drinks. Food a bit on the pricier side, but wasn't there to eat.

White Oak Tavern on Waverly Place

By Crazzzzs |

Stopped in with my daughter for a quick late nite bite. We got the fish n chips and a burger, both with fries (of course). Service was quick, noise level started to rise a bit as the bar crowd got louder. Food was very enjoyable. Couldn't stay too long, had a lot of things still to spruce up at her apartment. They mentioned something about music Sunday evenings (?) and a half price wine nite (maybe that was Sunday). When I return to visit her, we will definitely keep this place in mind to return to. Check it out.

Great Place

My friend lives around the corner, so we had a small gathering at the bar, it was fantastic. We had food and drinks, they were quick and super helpful servers/staff/bartenders.

Good food Good service Nice atmosphere

By Mary J |

Six of us went there for dinner and had a variety of food all of which was delicious. I can definitely recommend the ancient grains salad and the spare ribs were fall off the bones tender. The beer selection was very good. the service attentive, but not overbearing. It was quiet enough to talk, but still had a good vibe. Convenient location near Washington Square Park and NYU.

great spot to unwind

By Linda S |

After a super busy day chaperoning 26 High school students around Art galleries this place was a real find. It was handy to Washington Square and the decor created a great ambience. We arrived early evening and had a table by the window (street view) as the back of the tavern was very dark. We did not find the music particularly loud. The service was excellent and the meals and drinks reasonably priced. My partner had the back ribs and I had the mushroom burger (vegetarian) both meals were excellent. The tavern appeared well patronised by locals which. is always a good sign

Short of servers that night, very pleasant though

By PuzzleSolver855 |

We were late for our reservation which it turned out we really didn't need. They sat us in the bar but the single server was too busy so we had to wait to be helped. Outside seating seemed much better in retrospect. But the atmosphere in the bar was enjoyable once the profane guys left. Our hamburger was good but the butternut squash soup was terrible tasting. I would consider recommending it and try some other menu items.

Pub Gem near NYU

By D C |

Found this gem in NYU neighborhood. 4 of us went there early New Year's Eve for preshow (Joe's Pub) dinner. From the craft beers and sangria, thru the sliders and ricotta jar aps to the salmon, short ribs & fish 'n chips entrees, it is spot on! Our waitress(apologize for not remembering her name) was professional, lovely and attentive. I will return when I'm in the area and recommend it without hesitation!

Nothing special

By dpakman91 |

Good happy hour drinks. Nice appetizers. Try the grilled peppers. A little overpriced for the quality. Good place to know about. Nothing special given the neighborhood.

Great drinks and food

By blowingrockboy |

This restaurant is located right near Washington Square, this is a great location for meeting friends and family. The atmosphere is wonderful . They offer a great variety of specialty drinks. The menu is also very good. I had the burger which was excellent probably one of the best burgers I've ever had .My wife had fish and chips. We had a party of 6 and were seated right away, but I would suggest reservations during there busy times. Everybody enjoyed their meal, the drinks were great, and the waiter was very attentive. Would definitely go back when visiting New York again.

Greenwich Village Tavern in NYU area

By travelingman921 |

Fairly new tavern, but looks well lived in. Interesting list of craft beers, well prepared typical tavern fare, and an emphasis on specialty bourbons. Quality, tavern ambiance. Nice place to meet for drinks, share a bite and/or hang out for an evening.

a welcome pub 'n grub spot near NYU

By Dulcie L H |

Walked by one day on a recent visit to the Big Apple a few weeks back (1st week of November 2014), and ended up there 3 times during my 6-day stay in the neighborhood. Although the place is 'new' - just opened in August -- it has the feeling of an olde pub in the U.K. There's a welcoming staff, a nice selection of tap brews, and good food. (my friend had an excellent burger while I had the tasty mussels on one of my visits.) There's a weekday Happy Hour from 4P to 8P. This location has been a few unsuccessful restaurants over the years. I'm thinking' this one should stick.

All the timber, brass and good beer you need for a proper pub

Classic pub in a great bipartisan of town close to Washington Square Park. Decent selection of beers on tap. And the food is worth sampling as well.

Great Food, Service at a Fair Price

By Stewart S |

The White Oak Tavern is a find. Situated near Washington Square Park and New York University, this tavern offers amazingly good food. I had a mushroom fettuccini that was as good as any I've eaten. My wife had an outstanding corn chowder, and my son ate a burger. All were prepared with care and with good choices or ingredients and spices. The prices are surprising affordable, the more so in view of the quality of food. Service was top rate.

My favorite burger in NYC.

By Scott Austin |

White Oak is a nice oasis in Washington Square Park, which is to say it’s not filled with undergrads and has a nicer atmosphere than Zimay of its neighbors. That being said, it’s not unreasonably expensive. Good cocktails and house beer, but treat yourself to the burger. It’s where I go to celebrate and/or cheer myself up! Perfect for the fall or winter.

Another Lovely Visit to the White Oak Tavern, This Time for Late Dinner

By MsCasualTravelor |

Went with my family to the White Oak Tavern for a late dinner. I had made reservations for 5, but there ended up being 6. The staff easily accommodated this change (given the crowd that was there already, this was no small feat!). While it took our waitress a bit of time to come over and take our order, given how busy the place was, this was to be expected. We had a great time - good food, 'funky' music playlist that led to fun conversation, and they kept the drinks coming! Everyone enjoyed their dinner (my salad had very fresh avocado - so fresh, they left the pit in the dish! Total accident, but no big deal). We also ordered dessert - 3 of the salted caramel over chocolate cake, with vanilla ice cream. YUM!

Great Place

Came across this place whilst visiting NYU and popped in for a drink. What a great bar, very friendly and welcoming. The bar staff John & Pete were brilliantly funny and great company. Well done boys.

Great Gathering Place!

By Gay T |

We met up at this little bar to gather 2 families that had not yet met each other in preparation for a future wedding. The White Oak Tavern was SO accommodating to our party of 12 and the service was above and beyond. I had the Eggplant Sliders and corn soup--A MUST TRY- Delish! When in NYC- check it out. It isn't huge- which lent more charm.
