Fantastic cantonese chinese food. After eating the crap they call chinese food in South Florida-- this restaurant was like heaven. We had the Wor Wonton Soup-- which hure bowl which was so completely filled -- there was very little room for soup. This alone would have been more than enough for 2 people to split for lunch. We also had the chicken chow fun which was excellent. Cash only and service was quick. Highly recommend

Frankly very disappointed...I don't understand all his positive opinions. This restaurant is highly overrated. Unless you are looking for quantity for cheap. Otherwise it's really very average. First of all, you will have to wait before accessing this basement restaurant, the setting is atypical. Optimization of space between each table so no seeking tranquility. We had 4 different dishes served in large quantities and all mediocre. The service was simple, efficient and fast. A Chinese restaurant that I do not recommend.

Walked by Wo Hop and the extremely long line to get in one night in Chinatown and then returned at midday the next day to no line and being seated right away! Classic delicious Chinese food at good prices for NYC. Fried rice is very flavorful and the service is excellent. Cash only but an atm at the entrance.

Lovely welcoming staff, great choice of food, food cooked well and tasted fantastic, really enjoyed the whole experience, one of our highlights of our trip to New York.

The quntessential New York Chinatown experience...decent food at a very reasonable price, combined with friendly waiters.

We visited NY last month and this resturant was recommened by family that live in the area. The service was great and the food excellent. Has a real laid back dining experience and the staff are friendly and funny. Some will think rude but to be honest they were great and it added to the fun of the place. Make sure you get there early as it is popular and queues start forming from around 1930hrs onwards. The only reason i did not give 5 stars was that it could do with some updating and specifically the washrooms. Other than that great place to eat at.

The food is luxurious, very tasty and good price. I recommend ordering several dishes to share There are many different dishes

Good food with exciting flavors. Lots of people and a steady stream of guests. Went quickly to get both the food and drink. We all took four different dishes and were all satisfied.

We did a dumpling crawl through China Town and Woohoo 17 was one of our favorites. It is a tiny restaurant with excellent food and impeccable service. The steamed pork dumplings were perfection!

There are not enough words to describe how dirty this restaurant was. We will not return...EVER! The staff was rude. The food was extremely salty.

Excellent food. Authentic atmosphere and great service. Will return!! The Young Fried Rice and Egg Rolls were fabulous!!

I knew while I was in NYC that I had to get Chinese food in Chinatown, but I had no idea where to go. A tour guide told me to go to Wo Hop "and get an egg roll, wonton soup, and a roast pork fried rice." That was my exact order, and the waiter did look at me like I might have cleaned the back for some reason. However, I'm no stickler for service, and the man could've cursed at me because the food was so good. The egg roll was massive and golden brown, the wonton soup had a very strong broth and silky wontons, and the small mountain of fried rice was perfect. This surprisingly came out to $8 which is insane for the amount of food. I will say it's a bit cramped, and the seating plan isn't terribly self-explanatory. The waiter seemed very frustrated with me not understanding how it worked, but I got sat down eventually.

This spot is in movies and it’s for a reason. The food is delicious and it is in a great part of Chinatown. The food is authentic and the restaurant is decorated incredibly. I highly recommend!

Well worth a visit, very tasty food and very helpful servers. Be prepared to queue on the stairs for 30 mins but worth the wait, you will be well looked after.

We ate here on a summer Sunday after a day uptown. The food was good (lemon chicken and dumplings. Thre restaurant was extremely disorganized, both as to seating and then the wait for any food. Apparently there was a large order that set them back at least 30 minutes. Not worth the wait

Some good...some bad. Roast pork was excellent. Would get every time. Fried dumplings lacked flavor. Maybe the boiled are better. Beef chow mein was very good. Schezwan chicken was the worst I have ever had. First, it was not spicy AT ALL. Also, it was breaded chicken and the breading was falling off before I even touched it. The service was excellent. No complaints there. The history of this place makes the stop worth it. The pictures on the wall tell a story over decades of being in business.

The restaurant is small, with an upstairs area at street level and a basement below. When the upstairs gets full, they seat you downstairs. The basement is quite small and a bit claustrophobic. The food is really good, but the service isn’t the best. The waiters don’t have much patience — they clearly want customers to order, eat, and leave. It’s worth it for the food, but not for a relaxed dining experience. They seem to prefer quick turnover rather than letting people enjoy their meal at a slower pace. The prices are good.

Wo Hop has been our go to restaurant in Chinatown for years and has always been worth the long wait to get in, but we went on a Saturday night for a birthday party celebration, and not one of the people in our party of 6 was happy with their food. Of the 10 dishes we ordered, only 2 got the thumbs up. The consensus: Bland, bland, bland. We may go back eventually and give it a second chance after years of great meals, but no time soon.

When I worked at Jones Beach as a kid 1966-1970 we’d finish the night shift at the Games area around 1130 pm and head to Wo Hop for massive delicious food. Anytime we are back in NY from FL we go. Still as good as ever. Thankfully we have found a local family run restaurant, Chinatown, in Naples who deliver the WoHop experience and taste. Happy New Year. Gong hey fot choy

Wo Hop is always at the top of our list on our trips to NYC!! We have been going there since 2005;the quality of the food and the warmth of the restaurant and its employees is top notch!!The portions are huge and the prices are unbelievably reasonable! Depending on appetites, each dish could easily be shared by 2-3 people. No one in our group has ever been able to finish an entree alone!! Don't miss this wonderful Chinese restaurant- the one downstairs!

Found this place on TripAdvisor and it was well worth it. It’s a real hidden gem… literally. You will find this small and cozy place downstairs in the restaurant. It was very busy but not too cramped, we had a comfortable meal. There was a small wait to get in but again it was worth it. The service was really quick which was ideal for us as we had another excursion later on that evening to get to. The food was delicious, served straight away, was piping hot and we both agreed was the best Chinese food we’d ever had! The best thing aside from the amazing food was the price $45 in total for three huge portions to share, chicken curry, chicken fried rice and chicken lo mein, plus a drink each. This was literally half the price of a meal we’d had in Times Square and we easily got twice the amount of food too. If I ever return to NYC this is the first place I’d go back to!

This unassuming restaurant is a bit of a New York institution. It’s been around since 1938, and is apparently the second oldest Chinese restaurant in the city. It serves an Americanised version of traditional Chinese food, rather than the more exotic and regionally specialised dishes that Chines restaurants love to serve up these days. So you won’t find the likes of soups from Yunan or lamb from Sichuan or fancy dim dim; rather, there’s wonton soup, roasted pork and egg foo young, fried dumplings, numerous varieties of chow fun (broad noodles), orange chicken, and beef with broccoli. I first visited this restaurant in 2016. You’ll hardly notice the entrance as you walk along Mott Street in Chinatown. It’s like many you’ll find in this busy street. It’s a basement restaurant, and a short flight of stairs will take you down to this small, very busy and unassuming restaurant. The first thing you’ll notice is that every inch of wall is covered with postcards, family photographs, and curiously dollar bills with inscriptions, and numerous police patches. There's certainly a lot more stuff on the walls than there was in 2016. What I did notice is that it's a bit more shabby, a bit more tawdry, and such appearances actually raised the question about the current level level of cleanliness in both the dining room and in the kitchen. It was very busy the evening we visited for dinner, and we had to wait a good thirty minutes or so for a table. Once seated, service was efficient, a bit brusk and perfunctory; thankfully one of our party of four could speak the version of Chinese spoken in the restaurant. We ordered spring rolls, a chicken dish, a rice and vegetable dish, and a chow fun dish. The food came fairly quickly, and was piping hot, but I did wonder how freshly prepared it was, for such quick delivery. The spring rolls were seriously overdone, and therefore tough and tasteless. The other three dishes were fine. The servings were massive, and whilst the various dishes didn’t stand out as anything really exceptional, the meals were enjoyable. They reminded me of good comfort food, basic home cooking. The prices will blow your mind, not because they are mind-glowingly expensive, but because they are mind-glowingly cheap. Many dishes are around the $10 mark; don’t expect to spend more than $15 for dishes unless you are buying the likes of lobster. It’s worth a try, especially if you are seeking a spot that is a bit of a New York institution.

If you want fake smiley faces and insincere service based on tips, don’t come here. The service is matter of fact, the food is outstanding and great value. We always make a point of visiting this restaurant when in NY and have never been disappointed. Got myself another tee shirt as well! Great atmosphere, good vibes and the locals eat here. If you want over the top service, go to Orlando!

Nestled in China Town amongst the many options of Asian Cuisine, Wo Hop stands above them all. As we wandered to and fro trying to determine our dinner spot, we stumbled across this gem, thanks to an exiting NY local who insisted this was THE best. Wo Hop did not disappoint. A no frills locale is easily overlooked with the plethora of enticing dishes. Everything was outstanding and this was the first time we have ever left a restaurant without the need for a doggy bag. We ate every stitch of the generously portioned dishes and waddled out the door. Do not overlook this restaurant. You will be blown away!

we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion of food, as well as the service of the staff. Everything was good, highly recommended.

I wanted to give a rating of 2 but that suggests it was poor which it wasn’t. Following reviews, I expected this to be very good. Chicken curry was fine, as were the noodles but that’s about as far as I could describe everything; “fine”. I didn’t try anywhere else in Chinatown but I’d be amazed if there wasn’t somewhere better! Didn’t chance it a second time.

We had a really good experience at Wo Hop. It is a teenie and very crowded little hole in the wall or ground! So expect to wait a little to get in. Food portions are huge. So we definitely over-ordered. Had a different taste than we are used to but it was really good and we enjoyed our meal. It was cool to eat at one of the iconic joints in town. Probably will try somewhere else next time but I’m glad we went here.

The answer is both, I can never decide which of these two basement neighbors to visit so I usually go to both, had the egg rolls and Cantonese chow mein at Wo Hop on this visit, always great food and service.

Restaurant without many frills, fast service, good and plentiful dishes. Easy prices for New York. Gigantic flaw: cash only. In 2023 I find it truly anachronistic.

Whoa, whoa, Wo Hop! You’ve gotta stop! First Chinatown NYC visit and this it a local favorite. Cash only but cheap enough so you shouldn’t worry. Steamed dumplings and Roast Duck Chow Mai Fon was a super experience that made me feel like a local! It’s a super small place but the wait was short. The only thing long will be my memory of the flavors, textures, and the vibe! Five stars!!!

Good food, cool atmosphere. Dishes are very big so bring an appetite. Service is quick. Everything looks authenticity

Food was great, service was quick and responsive, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a reasonably priced yet high quality meal

My dad would always tell me about his expirence when he went to wo hop at least a couple times a month. So i decided to try for myself. I couldn't belive it was real it was the best chinese food i ever had and coming from a jewish comunity we eat chinese food on the regular. But this shop was different somthing different i tell you.

I went last week. It's definetely a restaurant that is worthy to visit. small, located on a basement... quite a weard place. Real chinese food, with many local people eatiing there (chinese, and people from the neoighbourhood). Food was good. I loved the curry crab!!!

The food was average but the atmosphere was horrible, the bathrooms looked like they haven’t been washed in years, the waiter took a long time to bring out my order and got it wrong, and at the end my total came out to around $25 I gave him a $5 tip which I thought was nice considering it was a 20% tip. When I was outside I hear my waiter running over to me asking for a higher tip. I didn’t want to be rude so I gave him another dollar and left before he said anything else.

Bad food and unfriendly staff, to Mrs. senil cino's question was good we answered no, of course, and she insisted it was good! A plate of boiled spaghetti put on the plate like beasts and notched by the ladle with scissors with an unknown mushroom sauce ... BAD! Cleanliness and hospitality to forget, stay away from this place!

This is one of my favorite Chinese Establishments I love to visit. It's absolutely outstanding! My friend and I visited here on 9/4/23 for dinner. We started off with soups, my friend had the won ton & I had hot and sour, soup was delicious as always and we had two crispy egg rolls which were very tasty. We also had crispy noodles with duck sauce & hot mustard so good. Now to our entrees. We had the crispy duck, it was flavorful & juicy, then came the Cantonese Lobster, an outstanding steamed whole lobster stir-fried with a tantalizing lobster sauce with egg pork. It was remarkable! Highly Recommend Wo Hop, tell them Charlie sent ya!

Fast service and good food! We got: 2 egg drop soups (delicious) 2 egg rolls (big and fresh) Orange chicken (different but good!) Fried rice (really good!) Big portions and a lot left over.

A huge map. Despite the world, served very quickly. Friendly and original decor. If "normal" eater take 1 dish for 2!!!! Quantity gargantuan!

Wait a long time and then eat in the “cellar”. The food was not excellent, which I expected from such a high recommendation. Few herbs. But the portions were good. I would rather have gone to another restaurant where I had eaten before and which was excellent. And you can only pay in cash. Or withdraw from their own machine (for which they also charge you extra.)

It is fashionable now, proof of this is the queue to enter, however it is a place where you eat well and a lot and you spend relatively little.

Last night was my first visit since Covid. I havent been here in a year and a half. The longest in my life with out this best chinese even. Located down a stair case in chinatown this is a hidden gem. I have truly missed this. I started with a large wonton soup. Still the best of any I have ever had. Then had the Shrimp with black bean sauce. This is the best black bean sauce ever. The white rice cost extra but thats chinatown style. The crispy noodles are also extra but are homemade and yummy. The food is the best the prices are still low. Bring cash since credit is not accepted. There may be a line but its always worth the wait tahts why there is a line. Make sure u go to the downstairs resturant at 17 mott not the upstairs at 15 mott. I love chinese food and this place has the best chinese food in the city. Dont let the location fool u. I hve been eating here since the early 1970's and this place never changed. Family owned since the 1930's it chinatowns oldest and still the best. If your coming to NYC this is a must for you

Great food, lovely staff. Quirky little restaurant. We had a lovely meal here, worth the 30 minutes wait. The dishes are very big, we had plenty to eat. It is cash only. Restrooms not the best.

It is the worst Chinese food I have ever had: stodgy, MSG overload, no flavour and on the expensive side. Just really, really bad - do not go here if you want authentic Chinese food, or even if you just want to enjoy your food.

The food here was amazing ..truly delicious .the staff were extremely professional yet super friendly and very helpful . I would recommend this restaurant for quality , delicious food and friendly efficient staff 😄

Honestly blown away by this place, we tried the egg rolls, beef in Broccoli, pork fried rice & salt and pepper chicken wings (the juiciest wings I’ve ever had). Tempted to book a flight now just to go back to this place 😂

This is the ONLY place I eat when I go to Chinatown. I started going when I was 18, went 4 days a week and moved to Florida 20 years ago and when I go back to see family, this is my #1 eating spot. BEST of the BEST, must go downstairs, not up, don't ask. My waiter friend is still there. Plan on going in Sept and it will be the highlight of the trip.

Amazing chinnese food!! Nice place in the China Town NYC. The best rolls that Im eat.. A beautiful and pleasant restaurant in NYC Chinatown, very good food, and good service. Fuimps cpm family and friend.

Fantastic Chinese food. Dining space is small, packed and loud but the food is great. They only take cash which was a surprise. We had the spare ribs (very small and bony but typical) Cantonese noodles and our favorite was the general Tsao's. Portions are large.

an old man from the old woman The real one is number 17. where you feast on wonders you go down to the basement and you see the beautiful plates tasty pasta dishes 10 doll the tray an award that wows us taste, quality, a treat in a word

Been here multiple times. Yes there is sometimes a wait but it's worth it. I'd wait for hours if I had too. On my last visit I ate downstairs and at one point the whole restaurant broke out in song for another patrons bday. The food is excellent and plentiful. Their fried fried wonton and duck sauce is addictive. My ribs were perfect. If you are from out of state this is what real Chinese food tastes like. The service is great and the prices are very reasonable.

Typical Chinatown restaurant, go down the stairs and enter this very typical little restaurant. The servers “throw” us into a space. Taking orders remains very friendly, the waiter had a little difficulty with the English language. It was quite funny. They are quick to serve and quite gruff overall. But the meal was excellent! A real culinary pleasure.

New menu, prices are up. MSG headache. Only brown sauce on Wor Shu Opp...no mushrooms. Cash only...count what you give the writer carefully before handing it over.

Fab food in NYC chinatown. Menu is extensive, food excellent quality with big portions, authentic vibe and pleasant staff. Our kids loved it too. We went at lunchtime in Feb so while a quieter time of year the restaurant was moderately busy with regulars and a few tourists. Definitely lived up to the recommendations I had read.

No frills, but incredible food and you will not leave hungry! The perfect spot for a quick and casual Chinese meal. Docked one star because it's cash only, which is unacceptable in 2023 IMO.

Wo hop never disappoints . Haven’t been here in years but experiences the same excellent service and AMAZING food at very low prices . This is traditional Chinese food at its best! 5-6 won tons in each bowl. Excellent large portions . Fed 5 people with a lot of leftovers for only $80 with tip

We have dined at Wo Hop 17, the basement restaurant, for many years and always had a great meal. We ate there on Wednesday Sept 28 for dinner around 6:00 pm. We chose to eat in the dining shed outside. The waiter quickly seated us and took our order. We ordered chicken Lo Mein and Pork Fried Rice along with an order of fried chicken wings. This is what we typically order so we remember the days when the food tasted good. So our meal arrives and it literally had NO Flavor. No, seasoning, no salt etc. even after dumping packets of soy sauce on our dishes. The real clue though was that there was no one waiting in line like there used to be. I think that they served us warmed up leftovers. Anyway, we have written this place off. Such a shame that a great place that was even mentioned in the NY Times Sunday paper a couple weeks ago as a place as a late night place to get Chinese food after a Broadway play now closes at 10:00PM. I guess the pandemic has changed everything up and not in good way.

Wo Hop is located in the heart of China Town and in operation since 1938. The restaurant serves á-la-carte Cantonese food and can handle large groups. Furnishings and decoration provide a no-nonsense atmosphere. Service is quick and adequate. In the neighbourhood you find dozens Chinese restaurants. We choose Wo Hop on a weekday evening and the place was packed with Chinese guests, a good sign. We went for steak kew and Szechuan shrimps with Tsingtao beer. We were not disappointed. The food was spicy and tasty. When you appreciate good Cantonese food and like to dine in a true Chinese ambiance, Wo Hop is the place for you. Recommended.

I finally tried the original Wo Hop, a Chinatown landmark that's been around since the 1930s. It’s a small basement spot serving classic American Chinese food, mostly catering to tourists. Expect a long line though I only waited about 25 minutes on a hot midweek day before realizing it’s cash only and had to go hunt for an ATM. The food is just okay, but the portions are generous and reasonably priced. The space is super tight, you’ll definitely feel cramped but there’s a charm to the walls covered with signed dollar bills and photos of celebrities who’ve eaten there. Service is fast, and it’s cash only. Wo Hop has become more popular lately, especially after being featured in shows like Billions and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It’s definitely one of those places you try for the experience.

Loved the decor and the strangely dishevelled staff, but the food was so bland. My son had Sichuan chicken which should have been spicy but wasn't. I had crispy Hunan pork which should have been spicy but wasn't. My partner had duck with slimy broad noodles which was OK. Very disappointing all in all

Amazing Chinese and reasonably priced. Went with a group of friends and had some really good food. We didn’t book and we got in just in time for a boot to sit at. I think other times you might have to queue but it’s 100% worth it. I will be coming back

Delicious food large portions for little money. Seems a little dingy, though. Some would say authentic. Food was delicious and were very satisfied.

I have been here several times and rated it higher. Originally went based on the cult like history of late night after hours celebrity and great food. I always planned trips to NYC with my kids to hit cool places like Stardust, Mars, Jekle and Hyde. This time with just now old me and the wife of 34 years. Initially I was surprised by the food being so much different than other Chinese restaurants. But now, the cuisine seems more common only because other places have similar food now. I hate to say anything bad about this place that my family has always worshiped. I liked the food but we both felt sick after early dinner. The ambiance is the same, dank basement. The bathroom thing isn't cute anymore. While we were waiting I said to the waiter "chips". He said "did you order". So, they dropped off the mustard and duck sauce, but you better have ordered the chips (fried wonton chips). I don't think their game will ever change and maybe it shouldn't. There are some much better options nearby.

-Atmosphere 10/10 The downstairs restaurant is cute as hell honestly. It’s small, but you can tell they make it work, respect. -Food 7/10 Here’s where the low-ish rating comes into play... I always try to give the benefit of the doubt cause I love givin high ratings but mannnn.. I was so disappointed in my food though! I ordered the sesame chicken w veggies and white rice. I looooove sesame chicken & being from KY I thought NY’s chinese was gonna surpass ours by a ton, but it didn’t. (At least this place didn’t) I’m sure there was something better on the menu that I couldve ordered. I was really disappointed that they didn’t have crab rangoon.. but their egg/spring rolls were HUGE and amazing! -Service 9/10 The ONLY reason I didnt give 10 in this category was because it’s EXTREMELY inconvenient they don’t accept cards, BUT in their defense they do have an ATM available. Like I said maybe my expectations were just too high, or i ordered the wrong thing for me. it’s clear that A LOT of ppl love this place, bc the line was crazy!!

Very good shrimp lomein and shrimp fried rice. Recommended by our city tour guide John. Close to City Hall in Chinatown, opened until 4:30 AM. Recommend it!

The food was delicious! BUT my son has a Shellfish allergy. When he ordered he specifically asked if his dish had any shellfish in it and was told no. We then ordered some egg rolls to start. My son had the egg roll 1 inch from his mouth when I saw it had shrimp in it and stopped him. Thank God I saw it. Perhaps note the shrimp on the menu. Shrimp isn’t an expected ingredient in egg rolls. That aside! I loved all the food and service was good.

Delicious! Get there for lunch and usually a bit less crowded. We have been to this restaurant about five times in the last 30 years. You cannot go wrong with any entree that you choose. Everything is delicious. The wait staff is efficient and very accommodating. We can’t wait to go back!

On our first walk through Chinatown and Little Italy, we decided we wanted some inexpensive Chinese for lunch. TripAdvisor had a number of highly rated places within a few blocks of each other, but Wo Hop caught my eye because it is in a basement and has been in business since 1938. We were not disappointed in the least! The ambiance is 1950’s diner, and the waiters wear uniforms of baby blue coats, white shirts, and black pants. The egg drop soup and fried wontons were excellent, but the dumplings oily and had little flavor. The servings are huge, so my wife and I split an order of Hunan Crispy Pork with a small bowl of white rice, and we didn’t finish it all. It was delicious. The meat was as crispy as advertised, and the sauce was spicy without being overpoweringly hot. The Red Devil sauce was on the table had we needed some more heat. The staff was very efficient, attentive, and cordial (but not chatty).

That's how long my wife has been going here, and I've been with her for 30+ of those years. Huge menu, fast service, low prices, just don't go at Rush times as the line is out the door and up the steps. Shared the Shrimp Chow Fun and the large eggdrop soup this past time, not a drop left behind!

Food always comes out quick. Food is good and the staff is always cheerful and friendly. Always our go-to when in Chinatown.

First off- CASH only- the atmosphere is fun and the dining room downstairs is small. The portions are large and def sharable- better than average food the 'spicy' isn't that spicy- but the mustard they give as a dip is def spicy

This is a funny little place, but it’s been around for years, and you’ll probably need to wait in line for a table - both of those things tell you something. This isn’t the place for a romantic date or a highbrow business meeting. It is a place you can experience what New York’s Chinatown is about, with some really good quality, tasty and inexpensive food. Give it a try, you’ll be pleased you did.

On the outside it goes unnoticed but once you enter, we were surprised. Very clean, super friendly owners. Very well aware of us. JUST CASH. Affordable prices and very rich food We'll be back.

I have been going here FOR YEARS. I’ve never had a problem when I’ve went. It used to be super 24 hours when my dad used to go and before COVID I used to go late.. like 3am! Great memories! Always go downstairs, it’s small, but that’s where you get the best vibes and feel. This place has been open since I think 1940 (probably early) somewhere around there. Key takeaways: ✅ BRING CASH ✅ Food is great and authentic. Order is enough for two people. ✅ Service is great and fast. ✅ David and staff have always been great to me ✅ Get your t-shirt souvenirs!

First off- I’m usually not a fan Chinese food. But when we were in Chinatown in NYC my wife wanted good Chinese food. We asked the concierge at the hotel and he recommended the Wo Hop. When we got there and there was a short line about a 15 minute wait. The place is small about 12-15 tables and you will be sitting next to complete strangers so make the best of it! The waiters are very attentive they kept the water glass full and were there if you needed anything else. Food- We started with fried dumplings- AMAZING I ordered chicken lo mein.- the flavor was amazing. The noodles were awesome! Small bites of chicken. This dish was delicious. My wife ordered the sesame chicken she also said it’s by far the best Chinese food she have ever ate, she says better than Chinatown in DC. She also ordered the chicken fried rice. It was also AMAZING. Remember I started by saying I’m not a fan of Chinese Food? Yeah, I’m definitely a fan of this place. We will be eating here every visit to NYC. 30 minutes from Midtown

Haven't been here in a long time. Really looking forward to it. When we arrived we learned it was cash only. No worries they told us, there's a cash machine downstairs. So not only is this a cash business, they can also make a profit on the ATM. Didn't eat there and found a great restaurant around the corner. Sichuan Hot Pot at 34 Pell Street. You're better off to just start there.

Always a stop when in nyc. Just remember, you’re there for the excellent food, not ambiance. Tables are close together and the restaurant is downstairs. ATM available if needed. Food is amazing. Had chicken chow fun which was the best! Portions are nice size. Servers are there to take your order, bring your food and get you out of there. Definitely worth the visit.

After doing a show at CBGBs (that long ago, yes) would have food at 4am. Big bowl of wonton soup and crispy rolls. Didn’t matter if it was good or not, it was the people from the Broadway shows and clubs. Those were the days.

Good lunch, nothing special… some people wrote that the service is bad, for us it was ok. Basically everything was average.

Absolutely tasteless food. NOTHING we ordered was good. This place has been around forever and has a reputation but the quality of the food has gone WAY down. So disappointing. Would never go back again. Its also a crowded dive of a place. Plenty of much better restaurants in Chinatown.

We never go wrong at this place. Try the duck. Won ton soup, shrimp with lobster sauce, pork ribs, fried rice. Delicious and great portions.

This is a must if you are in New York. It is very small and normally a line outside the door. Good and service fantastic. We had hot and sour soup, dumplings, fried rice and Schezwan Chicken and broccoli. Dumplings were the crowd favorite. For an added bonus we sat in the booth where Marvelous Miss Mazel was filmed! What a fun place!

Located under a sidewalk in Chinatown, Wo Hop has been a New York institution since 1938. I first heard about this place from the BILLIONS series and decided I had to eat here. We discovered that it is on the list of many local New Yorkers and tourists from the Big Apple. Slightly larger than a walk-in closet, there's almost always a line to get in, the staff is always buzzing and half the walls are covered in mirrors while the other half is lined with $1 bills and faded photos of artists they sound like a "Who's who whose is that?". A very long menu, at times difficult to understand (is that the beauty of it?) guarantees the experience of Chinese restaurant cuisine in New York. It's worth the trip.

We had the chance to visit Wo Hop, which is located at the Mott St in NYC, and I must say it was not disappointing! It has a long history dating back to 1938 and is known for its delicious cucumber line, we ordered a variety of cucumber, and every dish is super delicious, and the atmosphere is very friendly, perfect for a seat on a business trip, we ask for 5 stars! If you are visiting NYC, be sure to stop here!

I guess I've become food snob but I found this place mediocre at best. yes, it's cheap and has great authentic character. yes, they have lots of selection. our chow fun (wide rice noodles) was so mushy and overly saucy it was pretty disgusting. did not taste great either. the cold sesame noodles were slightly better, noodles had better texture and had nice sesame flavor but missing the usual creaminess of this dish. we also had mai fun (thin rice noodles) and that as decent. the water was delicious and very cold. the waiter wasn't particularly friendly or helpful. the bill with a generous it was $15 each so that was nice. overall, not great food but it probably would suit most people looking for a cheap authentic experience.

Can't say enough about the food (steamed wontons (sauce, Omg!) Szechuan chicken (sooo crispy!!) duck fried rice (sublime) and roast pork noodles. Inexpensive, fun ambiance and the food is beyond stellar. Service is great- barebones place and worth visiting! Make sure you head downstairs (door to the right of Wo Hop next door) and plan on sitting for a while. Portions are huge!

This is a popular restaurant in the historic Chinese district. The staff is polite and accommodating. The food is plentiful and delicious. I Highly recommend this wonderful dining experience and purchase a souvenir t-shirt while you are there.

AMAZING food and experience! Ordered Lo Mein Shrimp ; Steamed dumplings; Lo Mein Duck ; and loved it! All plates are big portions.

Visited Wo Hop (in the basement) in Chinatown. Around 5p on a Sun, party of 4, wait was around 20 minutes. Server came over immediately. He was friendly & made a few jokes. Expansive menu, reasonable prices, portions large enough to share. Ordered beef w/broccoli, curry chicken, pork and chicken fried rice. Everything fresh & delicious. Definitely recommend.

Tiny restaurant in a basement with the tables squeezed together and a low ceiling. Rent is not hurting their bottom line. The food is tasty, it is authentic, large portions, and amazingly good prices. Very "efficient" waitstaff. I mean, if you're hear you've probably waiting on line on the stairs for 30 minutes staring at the menu, so why don't you know what you want?? : ) Lots of interesting pictures on the walls, and probably $10,000 in ones taped to the walls with comments, sayings or signatures. Lots of character; fun place.

My wife and I had the Egg Foo Young, Prawn Fried Rice, and Sweet and Sour Soup, which were all really good. The portions were very generous and the taste was flavourful. There's another restaurant beside Wo Hop called Wo Hop City Inc. Do not be fooled by the similar name, logo, and menu, because it is not the same restaurant as Wo Hop. The food there wasn't good and it was very expensive. I went there and came out feeling undercut.

wow i moved to florida and this is my first visit back to NYC and how i missed good New York chinese food. This place has great, delicious food - actually served with a smile. Highly recommended when in Chinatown New York

Horrible service and not worth it. Bland food, not an ounce of flavor at all for classic normal Chinese food. Very disappointed. The waiter was walking away while we tried to finish ordering. The lo mein was to me just terrible, not hot and needed soy sauce on the table To add something to eat it. The fried rice with egg, was harder to find than Waldo, so over cooked and tasteless as Well. Didn’t order another thing and wanted to leave. Paid with cash and waiter not only did not ask if we wanted or needed change, walked away without even a thank you. Will never ever go back again. Used to be a fav. For over 20 years.

Great food, the best I've ever tried in my life. Variety of dishes, very hearty dishes. All good, very pretty downstairs location and characteristic of a place lived in Chinatown in New York. At the end of the bill you can put a $1 bill on the wall as you see in the picture and you write on it what you want, I find it a very nice thing. I recommend it for those data subject to eat a great simple Chinese dinner in a very nice location. The only flaw if we want to call it that is that the waiters do not speak very good English and therefore it is difficult to communicate / understand their dishes if you ask them some questions

Lots of character, and genuine Chinese-American food. We had fried rice and noodles and dumplings, and all was good (albeit a bit too little spice/flavour). Tight place but we managed to fit in all 5 with a stroller and a seat for our infant. Fast service also.

Great authentic Chinese food with big portions but really tasty. Service is to the point, no frills!! You won’t regret going here, make sure you pick the right restaurant as there are 2 with pretty much the same name next to each other. This one is downstairs from the street , look for the queue!! Recommend. Cash only don’t forget, we got some from the Citibank on the corner.

This restaurant was highly recommended to us but we found it very disappointing. The won ton soup was very watery and the wontons themselves not particularly tasty, the pork ribs were not meaty and very dry and overcooked. The service was slow and the atmosphere unappealing. They do not provide free wonton noodles and duck sauce like most NY restaurants. I think they were a very trendy place at one time and no longer feel a need to bother with good service or well prepared food.

We came here when we returned to Chinatown. What a disappointing experience we had with food that was inedible for my and my mum. My wife's noodles were great but so they should be, its only noodles. We then ordered beef & black bean sauce and the beef was so tough it couldn't be eaten. No exaggeration, it was the worst I've ever come across. Our waiter was very apologetic and offered to replace it with a chicken and black bean at no charge to us. Well, that came out and the chicken was the same! Absolutely no way I'm trying to eat something like that, or the beef. The waiter did ask us if it was ok, but sitting outside with a queue of people hearing what we were saying, I wasn't about to moan about the food when I know I should have. We ate the rice at $1.50 per little box (crazy good price), some sauce and then left. There wasn't even any green pepper with the dishes. Every time I have a black bean dish it comes with peppers. So the guy was great; the place is local Chinatown so we definitely wanted to tip them as we know it will help, so we said nothing about the chicken, paid up and walked off in disgust. I cannot believe how many good reviews there are for this place. Does no one else eat beef or chicken then? They just don't seem to be able to cook the meat to make it nice. Such a shame for a place that had a 45 min queue outside. Wow.

Superb discovery, very good value for money. Quick service. Nice staff. The portions are very generous. Thank you Tripadvisor because it is thanks to the comments we made!

I know good chinese food and this is not that food. The food is an Americanized version of chinese food. The egg rolls were ok, but nothing special. The dipping sauce was a sweet sauce without much flavor. The won ton soup was a thickened broth with strips of pork and wontons filled with a flavorless ground meet. Shrimp fried rice was mediocre. The blue crabs were covered in very oily meat sauce. This made a very messy dish for purposes of eating. I do not recommend this place. I should have known better when the only people of Chinese origin in the restaurant were the waiters.

Visited Wo Hop for dinner this evening and had a lovely meal. We sat outside in a heated area which was nice just a shame that you are given plastic plates to eat on. However the food was really enjoyable and the gentleman serving was so nice and just really happy! Had the fried dumplings (nice but wish we had gone for steamed as a little greasy for our taste) then had boneless ribs and duck noodles which were lovely along with a couple of Chinese beers. Would visit again.

Basic Chinese American restaurant. No dim sum but a wide variety of Chinese American dishes. Many Chinese people were eating here at the same time..always a good sign. Specialty dishes (beef and garlic sauce) was yummy and a little spicy. Typical American dishes like egg rolls were priced higher than anticipated. Cash only

Got a tip that didn't steer me wrong..... this is the location down the stairs... Party of 6 around 8 PM, waited about 10 mins... Ordered multiple dishes and all were a 10+. This is a hidden gem and I would absolutely tell you to give it a try....

Memories as a teen living in NY. Of course it was great at 1am hungry. Fast forward as over 50 now with my now teen not so good. Waiters just rude and tossing food at you to leave. Never goi g back

We had just walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and we were hot, thirsty and needed a restroom. We walked down the steps into a delightfully chilled room and were seated at a back table. Ordered beers and some dumpling appetizers. Then we kept ordering because the food was sooooo good. Fried and steamed dumplings. Cold Sesame noodles. Fried shrimp. And so on. Thoroughly spoiled our appetite for dinner.

I arrived here with my family a bit by chance because it was already a bit late. We waited a moment before entering because there was a family waiting before us. As soon as we sat down they rudely invited us to order immediately because the kitchen was about to close. They literally slammed glasses with water in them on the table and a pile of plates to distribute. The approximate service could have been acceptable, the place is very easy going, but the rudeness and arrogance were not! The dishes (one course each) were very generous but we didn't benefit from them because they weren't good and what's more they still rushed us because they had to close... Horrible experience!

The best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to, if you go to NY City Chinatown you cannot miss going, very good value for money and service.

we have been visiting WO HOP for years. we went last weekend for lunch. we were very happy there was no waiting ( often there is a long line ). it is such an interesting place, the food is wonderful. great dumplings.

Used to come here 40years ago … still good… authentic and affordable… no more orange wedges to finish tho. I’d still come back .

I grew up in NYC (now live on the 'other' coast) and what more can you say about a place that I've enjoyed for 40+ years. Food is consistently good, solid ... not too oily, not too salty ... and plentiful portions. If you are coming from out of town, YES, there will be a line up the stairs. But put away your cell phone and start a conversation. You'll likely meet some great New Yorkers who'll share wonderful stories. Add that to the whole experience and you'll see why Wo Hop is a NYC institution.

Very good , the place a bit small but very popular. The walls full of dollar bills and the food very good!!!

As above. Had three different plates, all bland nothing special and well over priced for what it is. Staff blunt, in inviting and don't deserve the included tip suggestions for such a site service. Anyone who thinks this place is good you clearly haven't got out much

Recommended by a friend we decided to give the restaurant a try. When I saw the queue I was ready to skip but my daughter insisted, so we waited for 30 min. or so. The waiters moved the queue efficiently. Chicken and eggplant was delicious, so was mapo tofu. The portion is huge. You get paper plates and plastic utencils at outside table. Overall nice China town experience.

great place, watch out it's the restaurant in the basement, inexpensive and very good quality, I recommend the soft shell crabs in August!

Great food and great service Very small restaurant but loads of personality Good portions sizes Helpful staff Cash only though

Unique NYC experience, highly recommend. We came here for lunch while visiting China Town and Little Italy. It was recommended by a friend. We were a little skeptical at first, as it was underground and seemed like a hole in the wall. The food is really good, especially the wonton soup for two. It is quick and cheap. Cash only! The patrons were friendly, which is good, because the tables practically have you rubbing elbows. When we left there was a line out the foor of 20 people to get in!

I'd had a recommendation for this place from a local, and having missed out before, was determined to get in this time. It was a chilly night and we finally managed to find the little entrance down the steps. There was a queue of about 4 people, but once you reach the door you see why - It's tiny! The turnaround is pretty good though, so we weren't waiting for long and also, it's worth it! The food is exactly as you'd imagine and there plenty of it! The decor is fun, with dollar bills stuck all over the walls - Unsure how they'd be coping with social distancing, etc, but this was a different time! Great food, typical brusque / quick service, and very reasonable prices

A definite Chinatown classic... Last time I went to Wo Hop was in 1988. Went back a week ago with friends and the food was just as I good as I remembered. Menu is exactly what you expect from a typical Chinese restaurant. It's a good idea to share and eat 'family' style. Portions are generous. Everything comes out as it's ready so food is hot when it arrives at the table. Fried Dumplings are a must! Chow Fun is good. Shrimp in Four Seasons dish is colossal! Crab with black bean sauce was also good, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore.

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had. Totally worth the wait. Prices are also terrific for NYC. They are a cash only business.

I am 70 years old. I came here on a date with my future wife when I was 23. She did not love the chow fun because it was not typical Long Island Chinese food, but she pretended she did and therefore I fell in love with her. I went there several times with my school roommates and we had great meals at reasonable rates. We moved away and did not come back for 35 years until my nieces and nephews were visiting New York as tourists We just went back today with my son who is 38 and my wife who is now 69 and sat at some of the same seats we sat in before and had the best Chinese food you can imagine. So very good prices, expert service, and a wonderful experience.

The other day my wife and I passed by this place, saw a huge line and figured it must be good. Today we saw there was no line so we figured we’d try it. We were both disappointed with our meal. It lacked spice and flavor. Nothing was good enough to justify the huge line. I would describe this as good drunk Chinese food. It’s good when you’re drunk but not when you’re sober.

You don't go for a Chinese Meal to be charmed by the waiting staff or the decor. This place is no different. The waiters were older guys, and they were businesslike in their assistance to diners. The portions are large, and the food is OK, but not spectacular. The customers are mainly non-chinese, probably there because of this place's high TripAdvisor ranking. There was nothing wrong with the food, and it was a fun basement atmosphere The check was surprisingly good value, which probably explains the high ranking on review sites. Good honest Chinese food, but not a gastronomic delight. If you want that, I guess you'll have to pay a bit more for it.

After waiting about 3/4 hour to enter, we had dinner in this particular restaurant. Friendly staff, super quick. Hearty and varied dishes. Super prices for being in NY. You pay only in cash

7/30/2021 - Haven't been to Wo Hop's since the Pandemic and was very surprised to find a line of waiting customers to get inside (since China Town was having such a hard time during the Pandemic). We got our order to go and they didn't disappoint me. I have not ordered Shrimp Chow Mein from them before so I thought I'd give it a try since it is one of my favorites. I was more than surprised since almost every where else it is basically the same but not here! It was more "hearty", had more color to it and had more flavor and held up very well (since it traveled from China Town to Westchester County in New York). Most Chinese American Chow Mein turns watery after awhile but Wo Hops sauce held up! Simply delicious! This Chow Mein is the best I've ever had to this day. Great Job! Any one who likes American Chinese Food try this it's way better!!!!!!!!!!

Near the Brooklyn Bridge, Chinese restaurant with a nice menu, very affordable prices for NY

Eat when its hot. Nicely flavored sauce, pretty much the same on everything we ordered. Fun visit, once As dished cooled off, kind of gelatinous

Chinatown is bursting with different restaurants. We walked past this restaurant and there were many Chinese people eating. Often a good reason to go inside. Beautiful extensive menu with even a section with spicy food. It wasn't really spicy for us, but that's always difficult. The old men in the service make it cute. You get enough, it's affordable. You get cold water and tea as soon as you sit down. We enjoyed the delicious food.

There are so many places to choose from in Chinatown for good food that it's hard to know which one to pick. This little "hole in the wall" restaurant was excellent. If you're looking for fancy decorations and luxurious seating, this isn't the place. However, if you just want excellent food and service, this place has what you want. The menu has a ton of options. The portions are large enough to share. The fried dumplings appetizer and beef chow fun were delicious. We would definitely eat here again.

Bland food tasteless, felt overcrowded and dirty! We thought with it having a 35min queue outside it must be worth it, it was our biggest mistake waiting.

Dragged 3 strangers from jury duty with me for a quick lunch. It’s exactly what you’d expect; hidden, funky and delicious. As authentic a NYC Chinese food experience as you’re ever going to get. We didn’t get too creative: soup, which was delicious, dumplings (they only have one kind, but they can be fried or steamed), egg rolls and sesame beef, jumbo shrimp with broccoli and the like. Large portions perfect for family sharing, served hot with prompt water refills to wash it all down. It’s not fancy, not the setting nor the food. But it’s real and fun and filling and you should experience a true local establishment such as this while you still can. We had a tiny wait for a table when we arrived at noon but there was a line when we left, so plan accordingly.

Went here for a late lunch (3pm) but still had to queue for 20 mins. Crazy busy and noisy but all part of the experience. We ordered WAY too much food, couldn't finish one thing! The rice and noodle dishes are easily enough to feed 2-3 people. The salt and pepper chicken wings were delicious. Cash only

No fuss but very good. Generous portions and competitive prices. Free carafe of water. The Beijing sauce is terrible!

This place was recommended to us but I'm not sure why! The place is dirty the food greasy the staff are rude and we were forced to pay a $6 tip - 16% of our bill! When we queried the charge as the receipt just has random prices on it we were told we had to pay it as it as it was the law ( this is a tip not tax). We ended up paying it just so we could leave. Not sure how they got their A grade hygiene but I wouldnt recommend it to anyone

I had quite possibly the rudest waiters I’ve ever encountered, calling me all sorts of names because I didn’t like the greasy, gross food. Will never come back and definitely do NOT recommend.

A friend remembered loving this place decades ago and wanted to return, so we did. Standard Asian menu selections were mostly served family style. Large and delicious egg rolls and dumplings. Chicken and broccoli dinner was very good as was the duck dinner. Accommodating staff. Very busy restaurant at 6pm on a Wednesday.

We Ordered shrimp egg foo young, General Tso’s chicken, chicken with vegetables, and chicken fried rice. The rice was actually really good. But everything else was mediocre at best. I wasn’t impressed. Have had better Chinese food at urban strip malls. I wouldn’t come back.

I learned about this place from my mother and aunt who had been going to WoHop since they were teenagers with their friends and boyfriends… I started going as a young teen and I still love this place as an adult in my 30s. No other Chinese food place compares to this and I’m extremely picky. The waiter still remembers me every time I stop back in (about once a year). You get such a nostalgic feeling when you walk into this place and you’ll never forget the experience… SERVICE IS A+++ too, so what more can you ask for?

I’m from the south, so where we come from portions are very large. Trust me when I say, you need to be hungry to eat here!...lol This place is unlike any other Chinese restaurant my wife and I have tried. Excellent food selections with authentic chiefs and staff. This place is the real deal!

Our old favorite is still as good as ever. Had dinner here on Saturday (and then leftovers for breakfast). SO MUCH FISH in the calamari and shrimp dishes and the egg drop soup is great. We added a $15 T Shirt, because, why not!

There is a reason people wait in a line to eat here. We go to WoHop ever time we visit NYC. This trip we checked into our hotel and went straight to Chinatown after that. Wonton soup with crispy noodles. LoMein & fried Rice. We try an additional dish each time. This visit we tried spicy beef with eggplant.

Do not hesitate to go down the stairs of this restaurant. Garnished Card, Quick Service and Delicious Tastes Taking 1 dish for 2 can be enough. Super Price Quality Ratio

Maybe it’s about what you choose. No line and friendly staff but v average food. Had crispy noodles with beef. The beef was horrid and the rest bland. Much better around the corner for a little more but so much better. Not sure what the rave is about

I chose and then reached the place after consulting Trip. I had already started with the idea of tasting roast duck and so I did. I would say great choice, but to know that they have an extensive menu. The small place is located below street level in the middle of Chinatown. Only cash payment is accepted. Great prices. Roast duck with rice $19. Suggested

Probably the best Chinese food that I've ever had. The spare ribs were great. We tried 5 or 6 different menu items and shared between the table and everything was excellent!

The taste is not very good, but god in relation with the price. The service is good but they bring us the bill without asking… Pushing us to leave?

If I lived in NYC I would eat here everyday. The food is amazing. I live in Colorado and nothing compares to Wo Hop If you are going here for the first time you will be shocked where its located but trust me go down the stairs for a real treat

Well, we planned to visit given there was at least one review about it being Celiac friendly. I tried to do the same thing the reviewer did and called ahead to ask what gluten free options they had. The person who answered was very rude, simy said "I don't know, you will need to ask when you get here" and then hung up on me. Perhaps he did not understand my Hispanic accent, perhaps he was too busy, I don't know, but we decided not to risk a visit.

Authentic chinese restaurant - very cool looking at the walls at all the old photos and messages etc. Food was really tasty and really great value for money - portions were big and a cheap meal overall.

Disgusting food. Would never go back. Had a szechuan fish, oily and deep fried with a sauce that was from a sweet and sour bottle. Stomach hurt after the meal, from the sugar, the oils, the fat, the msg or all of the above. Avoid.

We used to come here from LI with my parents, who were frustrated that we would only order egg rolls, spare ribs, and fried rice. As kids, our palette never changed, and we always loved the classics at Wo Hop - the elderly waiters in their light blue jackets, the crammed comfort of the basement dining room, the yellowing autographed celebrity photos on the walls. Menu says "since 1938" and with my order of cold sesame noodles and an eggroll, the price of $9.46 (cash only) also seemed of that era. A truly wonderful experience.

It is located in Chinatown. Small place but it serves typical and abundant food and the place is picturesque. I recommend all their dishes

We got lost in China Town and had to ask a local for directions. She gave them along with a recommendation fir this gem. We found it and it was fabulous. Food was great quality and so tasty The portions are huge so sharing is good Cash only so make sure you have cash Fab We will be back

Food was great! Super busy, expect a little wait to be seated, but does not take any time at all to be served after being seated.

This is no high end Chinese but this is not what we were looking for. This place had been recommended to us by friends and it was a recommendation. Large potions, tasty food and OK service. It may not be much to look at but the fact that we were queuing out the door is a good sign. We didn't need to wait long either but didn't feel rushed with our food. A good China Town experience.

Iconic Chinese restaurant located downstairs below the street. It gets very busy during lunchtime. It's cash only and they don't take reservations. There are a lot of servers and waiters, all men. Some are nice, some are not. We had a delicious meal. Typical Cantonese Chinese food we remember from decades ago. Highly recommended!

Know before you go.. They only take cash!!! It's a little place but popular as we waited outside in a line to get in at 4pm. This to me was a good sign of good food. The eggrolls were huge and delicious, we ate those so fast we forgot to get a picture. We had roast pork fried rice. Shrimp and mushroom egg fu young which I found a little bland. I had the shrimp with lobster sauce which had big firm shrimp and was tasty. Was it the best Chinese food I've ever had, no, but it was good and for our experience worth it.

Small place with long line. Went because of a recommendation. Went with two visitors from China. They did not like the food. Very bland. This place is not worth the wait. Another place we tried with no wait was better. Cash onlh.

best chinese food around its in a cellar but its clean and good and good prices. well worth it!! But be careful one order can feed two people and one regular order of rice can feed four people just try two different orders with four people and some appetizers .

I’m rating a four instead of the five Only because I wish the menu had descriptions 😂 but as you can see in the pics, the menu is HUGE so not surprised it doesn’t. Also I was sweating in this small space, should have worn a tank top! Otherwise, our plates were delicious! Would recommend if heading to Chinatown.

Big portions for the price but average on taste. Small restaurant so expect a wait at peak times. Staff slightly abrupt. Food arrives quickly. It’s ok...that’s about it.

The food at Wo Hop brings me joy. Whenever we visit the City it is a must stop. Their egg rolls are perfection. My favorite memories of dining here always include the men. Just so pleasant and friendly.

My boy wanted to visit Chinatown on his first visit to NY. Found this little gem. We shared chicken fried rice and sesame chicken. Great portion size for the price. Both good meals. Also had eggs rolls. Hot tea served with the meal. Small place and line up the stairs when we left. Lots of pics on wall of visitors over the years. Glad we stopped. Cash only.

When Amazing 66 closed permanently during Covid , our family would order Chinese pick-up from different Chinatown restaurants. New Yue Wong had the best Roast Duck , WoHop for beef chow fun, Hop Kee for Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce ; Wonton & Egg Drop Soup Mixed . Decacdes ago the taste of any menu item at WoHop was a sure bet. so we agreed to return with a party of nine on a Friday night , It was packed , and noisy , however they seated us quickly. Overall many entrees like the noodles, Sesame beef, rubbery shrimp in black bean sauce were just OK. Our favorites were two orders of roast duck, beef chow fun, egg drop soup , and eggplant in garlic sauce. The waiter was a bit abrupt, but he came around when he saw how much food we ordered and how much we were enjoying being together. Wo Hop, like Hop Kee only takes Cash

We had had this restaurant recommended to us by a local and it didn't disappoint. Probably the cheapest meal we had in NYC over 10 days (save for food carts) and it was one of the best. Efficient and friendly service, good meals (not amazing) and terrific value. Oh, and it has a certain ambience. Definitely worth a visit when in NYC.
Very good but please sit inside
There was a long line and we waited about 20 minutes. The food was very good (sweet sour soup, Sichuan chicken and fried rice with vegetables - it would be great to have pictures, we didn't know that the chicken in this dish was baked, so we preferred to cut it up in sauce). We sat outside because it wasn't that cold, but they serve the food in plastic bowls and plastic cutlery, which isn't great. It's quite cheap and there's a lot of it - we took some with us.
