noodle intensive!

By Chris T |

Not much in the way of ambiance, and the help doesn't speak a lot of English, but I definitely will be back when I crave noodle dishes. We went on a Sunday night and there was about a 30 min wait, and we were seated at an unusual table that sat only three, and faced out at everyone else, but we wanted to get down with some noodles and didn't care about much else. That's the only way to look at this place. I like that you can see all the food being prepared while you're waiting, and the cooking area is clean. You can watch and see what looks good. They seemed to be making a ton of delicious looking dumplings or wontons, but I had trouble trying to get past the menu to what I really wanted. I did have some pork and shrimp dumplings (because they were actually pictured in the menu) that were out of this world! My son did enjoy his "plain noodles in broth" perfect for kids. My entrée was a beautiful looking plate of noodles topped with some roast duck and some Chinese broccoli on the side. Everything was great but the duck. My piece was almost all bone and fat, and a bit too salty for me. I want to go back and work those delicious wontons more that I see from the window!

Good Cantonese Food

By Bimini_Jim |

Years ago, a friend told me the best way to tell a great Chinese restaurant in New York City was to see how many Chinese people were there. This little gem on Mott Street, in New York's Chinatown has been making the Chinatown locals happy since the early 1980's. I've been coming here since 1985 myself, and Wonton Garden always serves consistently good wonton mein, spare ribs, congee, and other Chinese delights. The price/value is outstanding. The service is fast and the portions are generous.

Delicious Chinese Food....your take out back home will forever pale in comparison!

By lux_travel_by_HD |

After eating some of fav chinese dishes at this Chinatown joint (easy to do with a color picture menu), we quickly realized that our take out back home has some work to do. The food here in this tiny restaurant was delicious. The place was filled with many locals and the small kitchen right out in front so you can watch all the action. We didn't venture to try anything new or different, but what we had was superb...noodles, fried rice and dumplings. Many restaurants in Chinatown looked a bit sketch, but this one (recommended by employees at the foot massage place around the corner) was clean, fast and friendly.

Delicious!

By noodle004 |

We walked into this restaurant in Chinatown because we could see the busy soup chef in the front window cooking the meals in front of us. The atmosphere is warm and appealing. The value for money is amazing. You don't go to a restaurant like this to be fussed over, you go for delicious food and great prices, both of which we got each of the three times we ate there. The pork and chive dumpling soup is magnificent. Chicken and broccoli was a really light and tasty meal. Everything tastes very fresh and nutritious. We found the waiters just great. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Wonderful soup to warm you on a cold day!

By Nancy G |

Freezing bus tour made us hungry so soup in Chinatown sounded wonderful! Everything made right there and served hot and quickly. Noodle soup was sooo good. Watching the quality and volume of food from a very small kitchen area was amazing! I had marinated tofu that was very good too. Lines at 2pm so you moved along but food was unbelievable and such big portions!

Good find

By Bells000 |

We found this restaurant by chance after walking around the 9/11 memorial and took a chance as it’s relatively small but it was busy so we decided to eat there. It’s good fast and fresh food, friendly staff and good value. They don’t serve alcohol so we had soft drinks but they said we could buy alcohol across the road and drink it in the restaurant.

Delicious Chinese food in the heart of China town!

By Petite70 |

We made a special trip to this little restaurant right in the heart of China Town. Very glad we did! Visited with my friend and our 4 kids. Many reviews recommend the wontons - and we can add to that - they were lovely - fresh, in a hot soup - you must try them!! We had Chinese beer (adults) and duck with noodles and Singapore fried rice - all piping hot served quickly and very tasty! We all enjoyed the experience. Staff were great too!! Follow your meal with a wander through the bustling streets of China Town and you will have had a great few hours and a lovely experience!!!!

Great place with great dishes! Fast, fresh, cozy, friendly. I was surprised and happy to be here. I saw many people, couples, families

Feels like rip off

By ameliepeu |

Had the P3 fried noodles with mushrooms which were OK-ish: tasty but partially hard. Service was bad, waiter spoke broken English and basically ignored me after the order was taken. Did not stop him from placing a hefty "service charge" on my bill. Given the alternatives in the area your only reason to eat here should be that they are open until late.

Delicious food

By t s |

This is one of our favorite places in NY's Chinatown. They are open late--until 2am on week nights, 4am on the weekends. Delicious wonton and noodle dishes.

Delicious!

By Jennifer P |

we had lunch here a while ago and it was delicious. we ordered for appetizer the shrimp dumpling and we also ordered wonton noodle soup. yangchow fried rice is the bomb! yummy! also order the soy duck and the brocolli. will be coming back for more. i love chinese food! the waiter is also very nice.

Great lunch place

By 3000calories |

Went here for lunch and really enjoyed this place. We were quickly seated and got tea without needing to ask. We got a veg fried awesome and a lo Mein with sweet and sour chicken. The fried rice had an amazing smoky taste. Would highly recommend. Prices were reasonable and the open kitchen is fun to watch.

most RUDE staff on Mott st

By smijona |

we have visited wonton noodle a couple of times - the dumpling were good. we just stopped last Saturday afternoon. we walked in , and were met by the most RUDE guy we ever had the dis-pleasure to interact with. ''WHAT YOU WANT '' as we stood near the front counter. this guy was a nasty , rude, big mouth. I lasted - @ 3 minutes, nothing is good enough to put up with such a nasty rude jerk. - that place is X off my list of Mott st restaurants. don't know how the owner could put up with such crap customer service .

Tantalising dumplings, bbq and noodles soup

By Spotbanana |

This is a classic not to be missed. It's quite a small place and you seem to be siting in a big family kitchen, with the cooks all chatting away in Cantonese while the diners are using languages from the world over (many Asian, I add). The wonton noodle soup with bbq pork was to die for. The wontons are the best I've had and the pork was up there with the best too. My partner's bbq duck was very tasty and the Chinese broccoli had a very unique sauce that made it scrumptious. Good value and a feel-good place. We'll be back before we leave this visit.

Good food, good service

By Steven S |

Small restaurant and crowded, but they found us a table fairly quickly and accommodated our desire to get out quickly. The food was great. Noodle soups were served with very little wait time. They added a service charge on the check so watch for that when tipping. We would return again without hesitation.

Good chinese food and inexpensive

By MD at large |

I've been to this restaurant many times before and always liked their food. This time, however, their Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup (my favorite) was rather scarce of shrimps (3) and wonton (3). Before they remodeled the place their dishes were more abundant. It was good, anyway, and inexpensive. I'd go back because the food was tasty, but with less expectations.

Very good!!

By Eunice G |

Came here because of a friend's recommendation.. And certainly, it is really good!! Their duck roast is delicious! As well as their pork & shrimp dumpling. I wanna go back again!

Good food if all of the other places are full.

By sperezny |

We were starved and wanted some dim sum type items and saw that this place had some and they weren't very busy. There was room to sit. The food was just ok. I assumed that since we were in Chiinatown that we couldn't go wrong but that was a wrong assumption.

Tried and True Noodle Shop

By susanmex |

I've been eating here for years, and it never varies. The noodle soups, dumplings and duck are all excellent. I've never been disappointed in anything I've ordered here. The service is surly at best, the lighting glaring. Servings are generous and a bowl of noodle soup will fill and warm you for hours. Outstanding value.

Great food for the common person

By HillaryJC |

Located in the heart of Chinatown, Wonton Noodle is an authentic style noodle house. Kitchen is right up front in the window. Specializes in all things noodle! I adore their wonton noodle soup - large portion, choice of noodle and authentic thin skin wontons that are well seasoned pork filled dumplings. I also tried the pig feet appetizer - it was deliciously tender and fresh tasting in a kind of soy/ginger sauce. Others had chicken and broccoli - very fresh and well seasoned. Fried rice is freshly prepared with scrambled egg in it! They are open until the wee hours of the morning (3 or 4 am). I travel from New Jersey to enjoy this food, so it must be good!

I love their Cantonese Wonton Soup and their dumplings

By Justin W |

I swear that people can get spooked by anything. I stopped in Wonton Noodle House for dinner and the place was practically empty. I was really surprised. Whenever I get a sniffle this is my 'go to' place for dinner for their Cantonese Wonton Soup with Roast Pork and Egg noodles. I love their dumplings as well. They are always perfectly cooked. Their Cantonese soups are the cure all for the cold. I am not sure what they put in the chicken stock but it does the trick every time. I always find the service to be very good as well and the prices are fair.

Great food!

By Jenni W |

We stumbled on this place while visiting China Town and are so glad we did. The food was fantastic, couldn’t fault anything and the staff were lovely, would highly recommend.

Wedding Party.

By Donna K T |

In the city for a wedding, shopping in Chinatown, caught my attention small restaurant very crowded. Well, the food got to be good to have such a crowd, so we stop and was seated immediately. Wow the food was excellent and inexpensive, very tasty we were very impressed, looking forward to my next visit.

Very very good chinese cuisine

By gabi_ct2000 |

Friendly staff, very tasty food! Very quickly served meals (soups and dishes). But no beers, only tea, water and soda.

My 'go to' place for late night food

By Justin W |

I know I have reviewed the Wonton Noodle Garden about a dozen times but as I have said in previous reviews, if you have a form of aliment or just need a good late night meal (they are open until 2:00am), Wonton Noodle Garden is the place for you. It is so near the subway routes that getting to Chinatown is easy. Also they are reasonable. That means you do not have to pay the prices of Momofuku or places like that for good noodles and dumplings (boy the Chef owner of that place has everyone fooled with prices like that). It is a good place for simple Cantonese Chinese-American cooking and that it its strong point plus they take a lot of pride in their cooking.

Pork and shrimp dumplings!!

By spicycouple22 |

Best steamed shu Mai (pork and shrimp dumpling) I've ever had. Noodle soup was good. A hot pepper fish flavored paste on the table in a glass jar was awesome. Crowded, noisy, but fun. Watch them cook through the window before you go in.

We eat here every time we are in NYC

By ciennalexa |

We are from SC and every time we visit our relatives we always eat here. Good food at reasonable price. Place is always packed even at 11pm. Place is clean and no place can beat their wonton noodles with duck. Always a winner!

Laugh at and Mock Their Customers

By chris l |

Just ordered two simple congee/porridge to take out I was laughed at by a waiter—not even the order taker—because I tried to place the order in a dialect they didn’t understand. It wasn’t enough that the young man laughed directly at me and mocked me, he made sure all of the help heard the conversation by repeating it. I really had second thoughts about ordering from them in the first place because their prices were higher than most other congee joints. If the order had been good I wouldn’t have bothered to write this review, but it wasn’t enough they made fun of me; they diluted the congee so it was practically pure liquid…little solid matter (rice or ingredients). I do not recommend anyone going there. They go beyond overpriced; they cheat and humiliate their customers. I’ve been there before many times but I didn’t order congee. In the following few days I got more congee from NY Noodletown; much cheaper, no attitude and NOT DILUTED,

Very Good Food and Not Expensive

By Sophie K |

I got the Pan Fried Noodles with Sliced Chicken, it was very good. The dish in my opinion was delicious, I've never had that dish before but it still was not the best Chinese food but I enjoyed it a lot. But I think that for it's price you get a large amount that was yummy. I only ate one dish but I was with my friend and she got the Pan Fried Noodles with Sweet and Sour Chicken. She did not enjoy it as much. I think it may depend on the dish you get how good it is and your expectations. Overall I think it was a really nice place to eat.

Amazing value

By DinFrance |

Plucked up the courage to go in. (I really fancied a sweet and sour chicken). Quickly seated - although it was busy and made to feel welcome. Cannot remember the name of one of the dishes I had - but was very pleased with the Sweet and Sour C i.e. just what the doctor ordered. Just tonnes of egg fried rice. There was no way in a million years i was going to finish it all. Real buzz inside - a mixture of tourists and locals. Lots of noise. It was great. I probably ended up leaving half of my food as simply could not finish due to quantity. Astounded at how cheap it was. This is NYC! Incredibly good value.

Delicious if you love noodles and dumplings!

By 331aee |

Our first time-we gave up our usual dining spot in Chinatown (we still love it) but wanted to try new. Tiny-cramped-but a huge selection of noodle dishes! We enjoyed veggie and pork dumplings-good but not the best ever. Our chicken and veggie noodle dish was great for 3 of us. we also ordered duck-it was too fatty and hard to eat but the noodles were great. We are going back for soup next time since there are so many choices!

Good prices and tasty

By kam l |

Came here on recommendations from local Asian waitress working at Irish pub. We ordered wonton soup, pork/ shrimp dumplings, and Chinese greens. Everything was delicious. The soup broth was full of flavor. A steady crowd is a good sign of good food.

Pretty bad experience!

By faudes2012 |

Firstly, coming to Chinatown on a Sunday was a huge mistake as pretty much every restaurant is closed, apart from a few, namely Wonton's. We had some great meals out in NYC on the previous four nights but this was certainly not one of them. It was as if our food had just been heated up, as from what we saw, the waiters were going over to make up our food. The one chef moved at snail pace around the kitchen and barely did any cooking and the bill of $70 without alcoholic drinks (they didn't sell them) was in my opinion very steep for the four heated up dishes we received. I don't like complaining about places, but this was not a good dining experience

Our Late Night Visit

By Nikko_Traveler |

We ate here twice in one stay! It a small place but thankfully it is open late. The food is great, my wife loved the Wonton soup with noodles. I liked that and the sesame chicken. **The bathroom is disgusting**

Great food, great price and they are open late

By Rakhmin D |

Been coming here for some time already. The food is good. The service is good. The prices are great. Not many places are open in Chinatown after 9:30-10pm, but this one is open till late. So if you are looking for some good food in a clean place in Chinatown, this is the place for you. Recommendation: Go and eat.

Yummy

By 4allysonc |

The food was very good especially when you want Chinese food at 2am. Although it's not your typical waiter service. You seat yourself and they bring your food.

Great wonton noodles, great value for money

By OZinNY (Don Lee) |

This restaurant is a particular favourite of mine. Diners who are unfamiliar with the restaurant's offerings and who order run-of-the-mill dishes like sweet and sour pork or fried rice miss out on the truly excellent and more unusual dishes on the menu. For my money, this restaurant probably offers some of the freshest wonton noodles in Chinatown. So if you order their wonton noodles, served either in soup or with the soup on the side, you will not be disappointed. The basic and classic dish is, of course, noodles with wontons. But you can have the noodles with different toppings such as duck or roast pork. If you are more adventurous, try the tripe, beef tendon or curried beef with your noodles. When I tire of the noodles (which is not often) and I want something different, I tend to order their rice congee with century egg and pork. Many western palates may find the century egg a gastronomic challenge but, if you are keen to explore the more unusual aspects of Chinese cuisine, it may be a taste worth cultivating. A word of advice: avoid ordering a soda with your meal if you are having the soup noodles. The perfect complement is the free Chinese tea. The kitchen where the wonton noodles are prepared is still at the front of the restaurant, next to the window. There is an unseen kitchen in the basement that prepares everything else. The waiters can be a little brusque at the best of times - they are probably underpaid and work long hours. But don't be put off as this tends to happen all over Asia in such establishments. It is nothing personal and you should just politely stand your ground. After that, you can enjoy your wonton noodles in peace. The restaurant was recently refurbished and is now bright and airy; the toilet is modern and clean.

One of the bests!!!

By WanderingKaat |

This is one of my favorites in Chinatown, located in Mott Street. I love that their menu now comes with some pictures. Among my favorites (although it is not essentially the best in c-town) is the wonton noodle soup, with other toppings that I just vary, depending on my mood. I like the wontons mixed with the noodles. It is fresh and flavorful. The soup, as well, tastes great especially in cold November days. I also love their congee. Along with the noodles, I almost always make sure I take home with me. The space looks better now than the way it did back then; it is, still, cramped esp on busy hours. However the staff is a bit better now, too. I remember back then when they had grumpy older man in the waitstaff. The price is fairly ok for most foods, except for the dumplings/dimsum, where they got a little too pricey; its like paying almost twice the price for dimsum here than if you walk couple more blocks to nearby Chatham dimsum. Overall, recommended if youre in for some deviation from your usual NYC pig outs. Its a plus that they now take credit, too.

Yummy yummy yummy

By Malo-ji |

I first stumbled across this hole-in-the-wall decades ago and have revisited countless time since. It is a welcome smack in the chops for any homesick Hong Konger stranded in the States. You'll find all your comfort foods: roast pork soup noodles, fried rice or noodles, and braised veggies with oyster sauce. If Manhattan has got you mopey on those wet and chilly days, head on over for a blast of home.

Average

By Louise C |

Ticked the box for a visit to Chinatown, but we weren't blown away. It was quite cheap though & the restaurant hygiene rating is "A", but not many options for a vegetarian. At least the staff weren't rude to us as many of the reviews here suggest, but it wasn't busy when we went so I guess that helped.

Bad food and service

By MssyMe |

I have previously visited this restaurant several years ago when visiting NY and remember the food being really good. I visited again when I returned to NY and this time bought friends. My friends were vegetarian and made simple request to change the chicken in a dish to tofu. The waiter rudely shouted at us no changes so she settled for vegetable and rice. I ordered a chicken fried rice with the salt and pepper pork chop. This is where they decided to serve me a truly horrendous dish. It appeared they took a full pork chop, fat and all and then battered it to death before deep frying and serving on a bed of what appeared to be shredded prawn cracker. The chef then appeared to forget to toss in the salt and pepper or to even season it. My first mouthful was deep fried fat. I have had much better food from Panda Express. On top of this it wasn't particularly cheap. The food had to be left as it was really inedible. Unfortunately when I next visit NY this is one place I will be avoiding.

Unexpectedly amazing little spot!

By April |

Found this on our last night in NYC and were so pleasantly surprised. We were staying in Chinatown area and talking a walk with our kids, decided to pop in. Small little kitchen in open - you can watch them make up your food! We all loved our ordered dishes, great flavor! Great service too!

RUDE RUDE RUDE!!

By KDV |

We visited Chinatown and went to the Wonton Noodle Garden for a nonexpensive Chinese dinner. The food was fine, though my sesame chicken didn't even come with rice. The problem with the restaurant is the service. My party of two was seated at a table with three seats, then the staff seated someone else at the third seat. We enjoyed talking with our table partner, until the staff asked us (mid-meal) to move to another table so that they could seat someone else at ours. I pointed out that we were nearly finished eating, and from then on the staff treated us poorly. The waiters (including one who was not serving our table beforehand) came and took plates the INSTANT we were finished, then kept explaining that we had to hurry so they could seat other customers. I understand the restaurant is small, but we were there less than 20 minutes total, and the staff kept pestering us to hurry. Our neighbor nicely pointed out that they were being rude, but that seemed to only make the staff more persistent. Moreover, when they brought the check, we gave our credit card and found when the receipt came that the tip was automatically added. Be warned---it's not customary (or perhaps legal???) to add gratuity without warning (and particularly not at this kind of restaurant with this kind of service. Simply, the wait staff was unbelievably rude. I shudder to think at what kind of curses the waitress uttered at me while I got my second (non-gratuity included) receipt. There are plenty of options in Chinatown--go elsewhere for decent treatment.

Rude owner and waiters! Don't try it!!!

By Ann D |

I had the most awful dining experience in this restaurant. When I asked the waiter to explain an item on the menu, he replied "Oh, if you don't know, then don't order!!" in a very snobbish tone. I was shocked..... But since my friend had decided what to order, I chose not to change a restaurant and maybe tipped the waiter less. The food was okay. The chef was good but the waiter was very snobbish. He totally ignored our table and didn't refill water at all. But after we finished our meal, the worst part was coming.... They gave us a bill which automatically included 28% tip, I was like "No way, I am going to tip you this much!!!!" My friend went to the counter to ask that "Isn't the amount of tip up to the customers?" And the boss pretended that he didn't understand English, and said "Pay! Pay! Pay!" in a rude way. One of the waiter even banged the table to create a super loud sound! The boss then said "Pay! and GET OUT!" My friend and I were so surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And another waiter came and YELLED at us again, saying "GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!" So we left $3 tip for the chef and went away... I just wanted to share this awful experience to everyone. If you plan to go to Chinatown in NYC, please don't go to this restaurant. The service is way too bad to imagine!!! They don't deserve to run a restaurant.

Great Cantonese Wonton Soup

By Justin W |

I had not been to Wonton Noodle Garden in almost ten years and I forgot how good it was for a quick meal. I came in late for dinner and no worries, it is open until 2:00am. The food was really good. I had the Cantonese Wonton soup with roast pork, egg noodles and wontons. The chicken broth is so rich and delicious. The pan-fried big dumplings are really good also. It was a nice meal for one person.

Best wonton noodle shop

By Benson W |

Been eating here for years. Great food, typical Chinatown service, not very friendly but you’ll be done in less than half an hour. The noodle soups are prepared in the dining area, sitting areas are small and tight space. The wontons and dumplings are excellent. Other dishes are made in the kitchen, takes a bit longer but just as good. Take outs are good too, paid the extra quarter and have the soup in another container.

Looking for a nice chinese

By Pauline D |

Walked past lots of restaurants as staying in the area and this one drew us in and we were so glad. The staff were very polite and attentative and the food was great, very tasty and lots if it, can't wait til our next visit before we leave. Highly recommend

Best Wonton Noodle Soup in Chinatown

By edisonsears |

This is my most visited place to eat in all of Chinatown. While most other places have become tourist traps that charge ludicrous prices for small and mediocre meals, Wonton Noodle Garden continues to sell the best wonton noodle soup in Chinatown. Don't waste your time at the other mediocre locations around Chinatown, especially if you are just visiting. Located in an extremely convenient spot, the prices are also lower that most of their competition in the area. Staff is friendly and speaks multiple languages. Great for a quick lunch or a nice dinner with friends. Highly recommend if you get the chance.

Second visit: also great!

By Underpaid62 |

Went for lunch and was really happy to have the best squid I have ever eaten! Small place with the kitchen right there in front of you. Great food and good atmosphere.

Great for a late night dinner

By Justin W |

I have been coming to Wonton Noodle Garden for years and it just keeps getting better. Their Cantonese Wonton Soup with dumplings and roast pork is the best. If you are sick, this is a cure all. Their Dim Sum are good too. Their Spring Rolls are good when they are not overcooked, the giant dumplings are really well prepared. Try their baked roast pork buns too. They are so fresh. This place is wonderful for a late night dinner when you are on a budget and is open late night.

Tasty and good value

By Anna G |

Walking around Chinatown, looking for a noodle bar, we came across this place. It looked busy and inviting so we decided to try it and we weren't disappointed! An excellent choice of noodle dishes and soups, dim sum and various other specialities, delicious and very tasty. Generous portions, fast service and excellent value for money!

Great value

By Josephliyen |

Really good wonton and noodles. The bbq meats are really good too. This is a place I will keep coming back. It is also one rare place that takes credit card in Chinatown.

Always delicious and always open (to 2:00am)

By Justin W |

On the late nights during the middle of the week, this is the 'go to' place in Chinatown as it is the only place that is open at this time in the evening. They are known for their soups and noodles and I always get the standby "Cantonese Wonton Soup with Wontons and Roast Pork. This chicken soup can cure any cold. It is loaded in a big bowl with wontons, sliced roast pork and egg noodles. I love this dish and is the most popular thing to order in the restaurant. The cook that makes it must be here for years. The pan-fried dumplings were good but not the best I have ever eaten but you can tell they are freshly made there. The service can be off at times as most the staff was gossiping with one another when I walked in and could have paid a little more attention to their guests.

Dumplings and more

By Robin L |

I agree with many of the recommendations of others: the pork and shrimp dumplings are fantastic. We enjoyed other menu items as well but we're I to return these are what I want to eat again.

Best Chinese we've ever had

By KimberlyG189 |

Our family wanted to try authentic Chinese food while here in NYC and Wonton Noodle Garden didn't disappoint! The seating is very limited and some people even shared tables if they were there alone. Lots of locals came in for to-go orders while we were there also. The food was fabulous! Great portions, fast service and the prices were average- noodle bowls and soups range around $6.50, entrees like Sweet and Sour chicken with rice were around $14.50. The Lo Mein noodles were so good, I want to eat here again before we leave!

Best place for a late night snack

By Justin W |

Wonton Noodle Garden in one of the best places in New York City for Cantonese Wonton Soup. It feeds the soul and if you have a cold or feeling like one is coming on, their soups are the best to cure all ailments. Make sure to order the Cantonese Wonton Soup with egg noodles, roast pork and wontons and then order a side of pan-fried dumplings. It is the best meal when you have a cold. Trust me, you will feel way better the next morning. The best part is that they are open until 2:00am.

What a surprise

By Peter M |

Tired and in need of a bite we found ourselves in china town. We weren’t sure about this place but it was busy. We had a fried chicken and noodles, wow what a great dish, freshly cooked and just tasted great. Wish I could go back, so as I can’t you should. Thanks for a great meal, oh it wasn’t expensive either

Had to stop in

By Nandoverman |

We were headed to another place when we happened upon a huge window with steaming pots and bustle of cooks behind the glass. Boiling dumplings and noodles right in front of your eyes. How do you resist? Place was cramped. In fact, we were seated to share a table with another party. Not so strange in Chinatown. Because we wanted to restaurant hop, we orders two small dishes for the three of us - a shrimp dumpling noodle soup and a plate of steamed dumplings. Both exceptional. The egg noodles were very flavorful as were the dumplings. Waiter did give us a nasty look at such a small order, but we have grown to get over this type of scrutiny. The food was obviously laced with MSG - something not unexpected here - but it was not overpowering. The flavor of shrimp and noodles was wonderful. Beware. When we got the check, we noticed the sum was more than we thought. They apparently add the tip to the bill. I almost paid double tip - good thing my wife noticed.

Delicious! Great AC

By Kim B |

We loved our meal that we shared between 5 people. We ordered pan seared dumplings, General Tso’s chicken, and chicken with Cantonese noodles. The General Tso’s chicken was amazing. Perfectly fried and tender. Flavorful sauce. All was flavorful and enjoyed. Plenty for all of us. We sat outside in the side building. It had wonderful AC.

Lots of shrimp in the wontons

By Melanie T |

I'm sure I've eaten here before back in my younger days. More recently, we had a wonton noodle soup. I don't love egg noodles, and the soup is just MSG soup, but the wontons are where it's at. They're plump with lots of shrimp in the filling. I believe each order comes with five pieces. If you've got a hankering for some meaty wontons, this is it!

pleasant price good polite staff

I was well served. I explained what I wanted to eat and I was guided correctly. small place, clean and cozy. very close to other well-known places of Chinatown.

Fast, tasty Chinese food

By Rkwok68 |

Walked into Wonton Noodle Garden after walking around Chinatown looking for good Chinese food. Found this place...food was tasty and it was served quickly. Ordered beef and broccoli and wonton noodle soup. Service was quick and prompt!

Late night tasty food

By rainbowrover2011 |

We found our way here after a Broadway show- we just wanted tasty food and fancied seeing China Town. Great little find, the kitchen is tiny and in the centre of the restaurant. Feels quite quirky and relaxed. The food is delicious - everything we ordered we loved. Sui mai yummy.. and some gorgeous noodle soups. Steamed beef buns so tasty too. Portion sizes are enormous and it's really cheap by new York standards. Really glad we went, was busy even at close to midnight.

decent food but surprise on the bill

We have been to this restaurant before but this is the first time in many years,MY wife had duck congee and I had duck noodle soup.My wife said her congee was watery and she thinks the duck was more like chicken,My soup was okay but a bit salty broth. We ordered a plate of Tripe(Stomach lining) and season vegetable with oyster sauce. Both were good with ample portions. The first waiter was arrogant and seemed like it was hard to be bothered and did not have proper manners.Give me a break! Then the bill. They sneak in a service charge (tip) of 20%.We would have given about that but this is not fine dinning. This a noodle shop in China Town!

Great food!

By mescarra |

Food is great... service is also great. Our waiter spoke to us in both Spanish and English which was very nice to us! Food was delicious and came out quickly. The place is very small and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because they wrote he check in Chinese and we weren’t able to double check our order...

Not as good as it use to be.

By John L |

The food use to be very good here, however, it is not as good anymore. The quality have gone down. The one thing that use to be great was they opened late, but not anymore.

Wonton Noodle Garden 56 Mott NYC

By Lisa63612 |

For excellent service in a unique setting, visit this restaurant. The small kitchen facing the front window is an eye catcher. The servings are generous and delicious, the prices are EXCELLENT! My favorite is the Won Ton Soup - enough to share - and the Cantonese LoMein. If you like Chinese, this gem in the heart of Chinatown is the place.

The noodles are great

By Expert Traveler |

This place was very busy so it must be good. You can watch them make the Chinese food in the front window. The noodles were excellent. They were very homemade and out of this world. We enjoyed the pork and shrimp dumplings on top of the noodles. It is a carbohydrate-lovers dream The fried wontons were also good. The spring rolls were so-so. I would go back just for the noodles alone. I loved the noodles

The young chow fried rice brought back memories of my college friend's mom cooking.

By Gregg H |

What an amazing small and clean restuarant in the heart of China town. The service was good even though the staff spoke limited English, but this was not a problem as the menu had pictures and English translations. The menu had traditonal items and had a large variety of soup dishes and a number of noodles to select from including macaroni. The dumplings were prepared fresh and the food was delivered to the table piping hot. Most of the folks eating in the restuarant were Asian, so I knew we would be treated to authentic Southern cooking. The food was delicious and brought back wonderful memories of when I was in college. The young chow fried rice brought back memories of my college friend's mom cooking. It had green peas, cabbage and an asortment of meats, just like his Mom's. It was very tasty. We tried the har kow (shrimp dumpling), shui mai ( pork & shrimp dumpling), sliced pork, young Chow fried rice and fried dumplings. The fried dumplings and shui mai were out of this world. They were so good that I ordered some to take home. The Wonton Noodle Garden is a delightful place to enjoy authentic Cantonese cooking at reasonable cost. I will return on Friday for another great meal as I have a meeting downtown. . Great place for a family outting. ENJOY !

Food great, Recently Renovated, prices not elevated too much

By Ronald W |

The recent renovation has improved the atmosphere. It now looks upscale. The prices have gone up a little. Expect to pay $.50 more than Big Wong accross the street. For WonTon Noodle soup this place is great. For those of you who don't know - WonTon Noodle Soup is a traditional favorite for lunch in the Canton area. We watched WonTon noodle soup come in big bowls and smaller bowls. The regular WonTon Noodle soup comes in the small bowl. Don't be disappointed - order the Shanghai Big Wonton Noodle soup. It comes in a big bowl. The big wonton are meaty pork filled and great. Chook, Jook, or Congee are all different names for a rice porridge that is great and filling.

Underwhelming experience

By Bruce M |

The food and the service is so so. To top it off, beware of the fact that 18% involuntary tips and tax already included in the bill. Do not tip again ! Not to mention, 3 to 4% additional fee on using the credit card.

Watch out for the service charge/tip

By Lisa H |

Food was fine, not great but ok. Service was really bad though and on top that they had a 15% service change and don’t tell you about it. I only realized this due to other reviews. So if wanting to tip the normal 20%, you would only add 5% but they don’t mention they already added 15% unless you ask. There is a sign on the wall that says “we add a 15% charge to parties of 8 more”, we were a party of 2.

Do not recommend - please read why

By Barbara J |

We stopped in for a late afternoon snack. It looked clean, and the menu was simple. As we were waiting for our order, I noticed a woman at the table near us, kept asking where her order was. They finally brought it to her, she took a few spoons, called the waitress over and said that’s not what I ordered. The waitress grabbed it And brought it to another diner. Surely one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. Luckily we had only ordered a bowl of soup and some dumplings, and I ended up giving them to my husband because at that point I was physically sick from seeing this. Would never go there again and would not recommend It

Great place for a late night meal

By Justin W |

The Cantonese Wonton Soup here is the best. The chicken soup is full of flavor and the wontons are made fresh. They give you a lot of roast pork and noodles in the soup which makes a generous meal. It is the best place to go when you have a cold. The soup cures all ills. Their dumplings and pork buns are delicious.

Great Wonton Noodles

By Garrett A |

Maybe I'm partial to Ramen noodles due to my broke college experience, but I imagine the noodles served here inspired the mass produced noodles. Not saying this as bad thing. I think Ramen missed something. Small space, but delicious and staff was quick and tentative. Enjoyed every bit and happy to see Siratcha at the table

Huge portions, excellent food, reasonable prices

By tribucks |

Our party of 5 rolled in on a blizzardy afternoon around 4:00 and were seated immediately and given hot tea without being asked a thing. We ordered WAY too much food at one dish each...should've shared entrees. I can't compare this place to anywhere else in Chinatown without having gone to others, but we were all very satisfied. The dumplings were excellent and the chicken pieces in each dish were large and tender, not hit-or-miss like at Chinese restaurants in many average cities. I'm told it's hard to go bad picking a place in that neighborhood, but I would seek this place out again. The menu was huge, too, so I can't imagine anyone not finding something they like...even our typically picky daughter. We paid far more for less food during our week in New York, that's for sure. Entrees were $10-15 range.

A hidden treasure

By Santiago M |

The best dumplings I've had in Chinatown, period. And they make them right before your eyes. Speaking of eyes, when we went there wasn't a tourist in sight- other then us.

Very fresh very tasty

By Avitalp3 |

Delicious meals, variety of dishes which are so tasty. Very good service too. Well recommended. We were seven people and all were satisfied.

Delicious and authentic

By Barbi Schvikker |

We had an amazing dinner here! The servers were kind and the food was amazing: nice flavours and textures. The prices were nice as well.

Worth it

By christinekaur |

Out of so many to decide from.we picked this one.. which was a very good decision. Portions was large and the.food was fresh with so much taste.

Freshly Made Wantons

By NN289 |

Nothing special on the service but the noodles and wantons ares quite nice. Place is quite clean and not expensive.

A find - delicious food - reasonable prices

By PRStrategist |

I saw someone else mention in their review how tough it is to choose a restaurant in Chinatown - so you feel as though you're taking a chance. This place didn't disappoint. Our whole family loved the food - we had some entrees (beef & broccoli, cashew chicken, fried rice) and lots of appetizers. All delicious. Great dumplings. And the prices were very comparable to what we'd pay here in town for Chinese food, so that was a nice surprise (we ate at an Asian place that was much more $ and wasn't as good closer to our hotel over on the Upper East Side). Very friendly service. Busy, even at 4:30/5 pm. Looked like locals were eating there, too, always a good sign. Yes, the restroom is small - but at least they had one. (some restaurants we visited don't.)

Good basic Cantonese

By Ross M |

Dropped in with a craving for some wonton noodle soup. The place is very basic, doesn't look as though it's been renovated for decades. Honest Cantonese atmosphere, helped by Canto-pop on the wall-mounted TV. The wontons in the wonton noodle soup were very good though, and the noodles were fine. We also had some wor tip (fried dumplings) which weren't quite crisp enough on the outside, but had a very tasty filling. A steady stream of folk came to collect take-out - a good sign. No service to speak of, but the value was good and the place was clean, even the toilet which looked comparatively recently tiled.

Update: Check the bill - they usually include the service fee.

By bbestnyc |

As an update to my previous (good) review which I am sticking by, make sure you check the bill - they usually include a 15% service fee along with the food. I am guessing this is because of being stiffed in the past by visitors from countries where tipping is not their custom.

first time back since covid

By Bryan C |

live in NJ and have not been here in over a year, Happy to say its still great wonton noodle soup I was a new yorker most of my life and have been going here since the 80s things have changed but not the flavors everything is served in Togo bowls and silverware that is disappointing but I will be coming back to have beef casserole with rice noodle it's amazing, Be aware they add the tip to the bill in Chinese so look it over and ask if it's included.

I've been searching for this place for decades.

By Nam L |

When I was a kid my parents used to bring me here to eat when I was 3, 4, years old; I've been all over the world and still remember how much I enjoyed the food there. I'm 41 living in CT now and was on a hunt for this restaurant, every time I stopped in Chinatown I searched for this place but couldn't remember the name or the location. So the other day I made it a mission to find it again. I found after wandering about China Town for hours. And it was well worth the search. The Service is typical traditional Chinese. They're friendly but they are not going to go out of there way like a corporate casual dining restaurant. They don't have too. THEIR FOOD IS THAT GOOD. You got allergies? Sorry go somewhere else. Allergic to Gluten? Eat somewhere else. This is the real deal. The Wontons are stuffed with whole shrimps plenty of seasoned ground pork. The Broth a chicken stock made Chinese style, light not greasy, tastes like something cooked over night with a slow simmer. Portions are perfect. Gratuity is calculated into the price, Dinner for 2 with appetizer cost me $25.00. My Girlfriend and I had, shrimp and pork dumplings as an appetizer. And we both ordered wonton and noodles as our entree, I had Beef tendons added to mine and it was just delightful, the perfect wonton soup. I've been a cook for 15 years and still have not managed to replicate the exact flavor. If your in the mood for the ultimate wonton stop by this Chinatown gem.

Small but Good

By AstroSoulGoddess |

This is a tiny restaurant off a side street in Chinatown. However, do not let the size of the place fool you. The food is served hot, fresh and delicious. My son had the roast duck which he said was well seasoned. I had the rice noodle, vegetable and shrimp soap. The broth was delicious and the vegetables fresh. I will go back.

Great wonton soup

By Dan M |

We visited on a cold rainy afternoon. Even at 3pm the place was crowded. My wife, who is not a big noodle fan, could not get over how tasty the broth and noodles were. The wontons had a lot of flavor. I had spicy Zha Jiang with wontons and noodles. Filling and delicious. Will definitely eat there again.

Good food

By nelly w |

We love chinese food and this restaurant is very good, from outside you never imagine getting good food inside, but the restaurant is clean, nice service, very good price, good taste.

For tourists only !!!

By Christophe R |

For tourists only !!! Not good, not friendly, ridiculous price. Pekin duck was the worst I ever tasted. Toilet are not clean.

Great food and kitchen in front window is unique

By pine129 |

We decided on this place by walking by and seeing menu and unique kitchen. The food was great and service was good too. Very popular with many people stopping in. Only thing disappointing was they added gratuity of 20% which seemed odd for small place in Chinatown for group of 4!

Food was so good we ate here twice during a 7 day NY trip

By Kev O |

Found this place while visiting China town during a one week visit from the UK - It was packed with locals and the outside eating area was also busy. The Dim Sum is excellent and very reasonably priced - Pork and Shrimp andPork and Chive. Noodles in honey were also very good.

Family friendly and kid approved

By rlslacker |

Had a wide variety of dishes with our family of six. The kids had traditional dishes like lo mein and sweet&sour chicken, both very tasty. I really enjoyed the dumplings as did my 7 yr old who ate more than I did :). We had a great experience and were very happy with our meals.

Food ok, tip included automatically

By Dany C |

Wanted to eat a nice Chinese meal, nothing fancy. We ordered Steamed Shrimp Dumplings, Kung poa Chicken and General Sao Chicken. Food came quite quickly. Taste very bland, not spicey as mentioned on the menu. We didn't have the possibility to order something extra as the waiters seemed to ignore us. When checking the bill I noticed they scribbled something extra what was about the same amount as the tip I was going to add. So pay attention when you want to tip as the staff already added a 20% service fee! Will not be coming back, plenty of other choices around.

Delicious...is an understatement

By mariediaz7 |

Wandered into this restaurant after a day of sightseeing....when you see locals at a restaurant you know it will be good food! Service was prompt and efficient. The food was delicious and simply made. We ordered pork noodle soup, chicken lo mein and beef fried rice. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs!

Still have the best wantons

By tumwaterpuyallup@yahoo.com |

We returned to the restaurant almost a year after & find that they still make the best wantons. The taste & quality are consistent. The Atmosphere is friendly. They dont tend to rush out of the restaurant. The only criticism is that the wash room & the actual restaurant itself is way too small. Enjoyed the food. The price has gone up but we will be back.

Great Soup and great food!

By Lisa W |

Had the rice noodle soup with chicken which was amazing. The place was extremely busy which is why we thought we would stop in because it had to be good and we were right!

Good noodles

By Rodger L |

Enjoyed the noodles. Wait staff could be more attentive. But a good experience coming here. Nice size shrimp in the lo mien.

Authentic and affordable

By sfdann |

So many spots to select from in Chinatown - I found the noodles here delicious, well cooked and well-priced. It is anything but fancy but if you love wonton soup, you won't go wrong here. Good dim sum items. I'd return.

Best place for a reasonable lunch or dinner but the hours have changed

By Justin W |

I have been coming to Wonton Noodle Garden since they opened in 1978 and I have always found the food to be consistent. Since the pandemic, their hours have been sporatic at best and they close at 9:00pm sometimes 8:00pm if they are slow. I have definately seen a change in the customers. The tourists and office workers have not totally come back to Chinatown. Still, the food is consistently good. I started the meal with the Pork and Chive Steamed Dumplings and they were large. I never remember them being that big before but they were cooked perfectly and served with soy sauce on top. They were delicious and very filling. For the main meal, I had the Cantonese Wonton Soup which they now call a "Mixed" Soup. I had it with Wontons, Roast Pork and Shanghai noodles and it was a different take on the dish. The only bad part of the dish was the Roast Pork. It tasted fatty and was a bit chewy, not as good as it normally is when I order the dish. The Shanghai Noodles were a nice change and were cooked perfectly. The soup itself is always delicious. The Wontons were also larger than I remember and I had no problem with that. The customers have changed a lot with it being mostly locals and NYU students who live in the area, not the restaurant workers and Chinese families that I used to see. It is also a lot quieter than normal for a Friday night. The food and service still are consistent.

Meh!

By Sheeplady2013 |

The restaurant was busy and was serving mainly oriental clientele so we thought the food would be good and authentic but It was bland and boring and because the waiter did not speak English we could not ask for guidance. The seating was hard and uncomfortable but the prices were reasonable.

Fine Cantonese/Shanghai Food

By bartoncobert |

Had lunch and this review is based on two dishes. I had squid curry soup with noodles. Delicious, well spiced. My wife had beef tripe and noodles. Also delicious. Neither dish is a routine choice for many but we enjoy trying unusual dishes and these were fine. Lots of other unusual dishes. A busy, bustling, inexpensive lunch. Will definitely go back.

Wonton at is Best

By Jackie W |

Skip everything on the menu and just go for Soup Wonton and or Soup Dumpling. Wonton tasted lovely. Skin is thin. Big prawn inside with some pork. Perfectly seasoned with sesame oil. The yellow noodles are bit over cooked for my taste. Too soft in my opinion. This place doesn't look like anything from the outside. You can see the chief cooking noodles from the window. Inside is very simple. So don't expect too much except a great bowl of wonton soup.

Real Asians Need Better

By Sokhorn "LeOund" Sokha |

Sucks, bajor will never do business with wonton noodles. Try Aku Aku, or Wah Sang. Lowell asians one of the best. Chinatown trash.

Great Chinese food

By Thor Anders A |

We wanted to treat the kids with "real" Chinese food. So we ordered a lot of different food to share Chinese style. And the kids lovde it. From my travels in China I would say that this was very good Chinese food

Brilliant value cafe-style Chinese, full of locals.

By Dave2usa |

We always like to seek out budget 'cafe-style' Chinese restaurants in cities with Chinatowns, especially if they are full of locals, as they tend to be much better than the touristy restaurants. This place met that description perfectly - we were the only non-Chinese people in the busy little restaurant and the food was exceptionally good - very tasty and fantastic value for money. My chicken lo mein was a huge potion and absolutely delicious.

Surprisingly good noodle soup

By leatfernwood |

I practically crashed into this noodle place after a shopping trip in SoHo with no prior idea or recommendation about the quality of the food. Looking through the window it was clean and well organized, with all the noodle cooking operation in the front in full view for public inspection. There was a mix of patrons, not necessarily all Chinese locals. As a party of 2 we were quickly seated within 5 minute wait (it was ca. 4 PM), The order of egg noodle soups quickly came, an all vegie with mushrooms, and another with wonton and roasted duck. The noodle was cooked to the right texture, not too chewy not too soft, the broth itself was a bit cloudy and rich (I prefer clear broth) but tasted fine. The vegetables, mushrooms, wontons and roasted duck were fresh and tasty. All in all it was a pleasant experience for $22 including tips. The staff was polite, expedient and multi lingual, English, Chinese and surprisingly good Spanish. A very good deal in Chinatown, and I can't wait for a return trip the next time in the City.

Tasty, great Chinese Food

By IstanbulRaine |

Delicious and freshly made Chinese food. Came on a friend's recommendation and really enjoyed their pork dishes. Tasty and very fast service. Simple and basic decor but the food makes up for the simplicity of the place.

Beef and Broccoli with diet Coke

By DonaldBrown12 |

Great place to eat Beef and Broccoli with a diet coke $8.50. Fantastic food on Mott St. Chinatown New York City is a bit old and dirty but a great place to walk around and enjoy the day.

Their Wonton soups are the best cure for a cold

By Justin W |

I have been coming to the Wonton Noodle Garden for years and they make the best Cantonese Wonton Soups in the city. I do not know what they put into their chicken stock for their soups but it will cure any cold that you have. I love their Wonton soups with wontons, roast pork and egg noodles. They are the best for a cold and are very reasonable and fresh. Their steamed roast pork buns are delicious too and full of sweet roast pork. I find the service is always good and they are open until 2:00am when most of the workers get out from various jobs in the neighborhood.

Good chinese

By Michelle M |

Seeing as how we live in a state with no diversity in food, we always visit a Chinatown restaurant when we travel to a major city. I read the reviews of this place and many others and then we walked by to see what it looked like...a small place, but a good balance of local residents and tourists alike. The food was delicious! Service was quick and friendly. If you are looking for a quality Chinese dinner...this is a good place to visit!

Another hidden gem

By Michelle M |

A wander through china town may seem like a daunting task when choosing a restaurant. Whilst the decor outside is full of pictures of the dishes served the restaurant was full of locals. The food delicious and great value. Go on give it a try

You can find better

By Brenda C |

Veggie dumplings were completely tasteless. Noodle dish I had was really really oily, didn't have much of it and it was also bland. Disappointed considered it was as cheap as other places around. Tried 456 Shanghai cuisine up and across the street which was much better.

awful dimsum

By betamax12345 |

We were reliving the great experience we had in Chinatown years ago and were looking for the restaurants in the area. After walking through Mulberry and Mott, this seemed to be okay, since they had dimsum listed. It was not great at all. There were only 3 items that I identified. I ordered the steam roast pork bun and the broccoli. Added fried rice and a fish dish. The buns were wet and the filling was bland and made with fatty meat - which by the way was only about 1/4 of the bun. The fried rice was okay and broccoli was fine. But the kicker was they charged me a 20% service charge for 3 people. Was it because I asked for water?

Welcome to China town

By JATINDER T |

Stumbled across this place whilst looking for a place to have lunch. If you want to know where a good place to eat the native food, then follow the natives. Nice and friendly staff, good variety of food with the menu showing pictures too. Good value for money. Only let down was that the food was served in disposable dishes and cutlery. Nonetheless we all enjoyed the food

Great food and service

By RMichaels |

My friends and family have been coming to this restaurant for about 10 years now whenever we visit NYC Chinatown. The service is fine- friendly but not overly talkative- there's actually a Chinese waiter that speaks Spanish. The food is always super fresh and the restaurant and restroom is exceptionally clean for NYC. The wonton noodle soup is fantastic- they actually give you a whole shrimp inside each wonton and the noodles are the real chewy kind. The beef chow fun is great. The Mapo tofu was not my favorite but everything else is very tasty. Their outdoor seating area has a.c so it's really nice out there in the summer. I'm not thrilled they are serving everything on plastic plates due to covid but it's alright since the food is so good.

Authentic Cantonese Cuisine - quick and great quality

By b y |

I came to this establishment when I last visited NYC and was always keen to come back - this place has stood the test of time, in the heart of Manhattan and the sign of a good Chinese restaurant is when you see Chinese Locals come here. Coming from Cantonese origin, I could tell that this place was frequented by many of these locals. The place offers informal dining for about 50 customer across about 15 tables. I visited during lunchtime and was seated on a table next to another solo eater (quite common in chinese culture). I ordered to Wonton Noodles (its their main speciality as they handmake their own wontons), and feeling particularly peckish, I also went for the beef brisket on served over rice (another chinese classic). Both were quickly served within 10 minutes or ordering, piping hot. Far too much food for 1 person but I did manage to pretty much demolish everything with the exception of some of the noodles and small quantity of rice. Quality was excellent - having visited HK over 10 times, this place would not see out of place amongst local HK noodle establishments. All customers are presented with free green chinese tea on arrival

Neighborhood Chinese. Sui Mai are great. Generous portions. Note it's a dry restaurant.

stay away - EXTREMELY RUDE service in Chinatown

By K N |

Was in New York for the weekend and decided to walk through Chinatown. Their food options looked great, so decided to give it a try. We were promptly seated at a table, and I could immediately notice the "impatience" of the waiter, his eyes were rather unfriendly, and he didn't want to explain some of the entrees. He said "Well if you don't know it, then don't order it.." I should have left at that point, but decided to just wait. The chef is great - the food tasted awesome. We asked for the bill and we noticed that they had added 30% gratuity on their own. I went to ask the manager why they did that, since I should be able to decide how much I wish to tip, especially considering how bad the waiter had been. Little did I know what was in store for me. The manager was EVEN WORSE, and I can only imagine the insults that he and the other waiters hurled at me in their Cantonese. Their excuse was that in America tipping is a must. One of the waiters, having a very angry expression on his face and very furious eyes shouted rather threateningly, "you put tip on the table!!!" Then they all started shouting at me "GET OUT!!! GET OUT!!! GET OUT!!!" Wow. I just decided that if such people are so greedy for a $3 tip, then I'll give it. At least the chef seemed decent and the food tasted good. If you want a nice evening, I highly suggest avoiding Wonton. There are numerous other far nicer restaurants within Chinatown.

Good Chinese food at a very fair price

By travelingsenior |

I have gone to this restaurant on nearly every trip over decades. Don't expect white table cloths or perfect presentation. However, expect a good meal (especially their noodle dishes) in an authentic Chinese restaurant where each person has multiple jobs and the food is at a fair price. Their wontons are plump with a mixture of pork and shrimp. Good, down home, comfort food.

Never Disappoints

By pucciNewYork_NyUsa |

Wonton Noodle Garden has been in this same spot for many years. For me coming here, even after a long absence is like coming home. The noodle soups are served piping hot and delicious. It is consistent through the years. The place is not that big. So expect to share your table with others. This is a great way to meet locals and tourists. If you're not sure what to get, look around the tables and don't be shy to ask your waiter. Enjoy.

Noodle Mania...

This place is awesome... It it our last night in NYC and we decided to head to china town. This place was packed so we decided to give it a go and it dis not disappoint... The noodle and dumpling soup to start and squid and special fried rice was more than enough for us both... At a little over $40 it was such good value for money...give it a go..

Amazing Food!!!

By Corvettesue322 |

We really wanted Chinese food and after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, decided to try New Wonton Garden, located in China Town. It is a small, busy restaurant with the cooks in the front window and people rushing by. Our server was attentive and polite. The food was delicious! It was freshly prepared and well seasoned. The portions were amazing! We all enjoyed our meal a lot. My friend commented that now she knew a person could eat GREAT food in NYC without spending a fortune. Thank you New Wonton Garden and Trip Advisor for the recommendation!

Great food

By Joseph V |

The rice noodles were amazing! The Dim Sum was great. We shared the food in a personal buffet style. The survice was not prompt but they provided good advice on the selection of the food without error. I would come again. It is a great authentic place.

A Great Authenic Place to Eat

This was a great find in China Town. We wanted to grab a bite to eat and saw that the restaurant was full with locals. Had the won ton soup with noodles. Large portion for a small price. Great service. If you are here, stop in and enjoy.

The best Cantonese Wonton Soup with Roast Pork and Dumplings

By Justin W |

I walked down to Chinatown for dinner on cool gloomy night after a walking tour of the Merchant House Museum and needed my favorite Cantonese Wonton Soup for dinner. The restaurant has just moved to its new location on Pell Street after 40 years in the same location. The location may be different, but the food is still excellent. I started off with Spring Rolls which were perfectly cooked and were light and crisp. Then I had the Pan-Fried Dumplings, which you could tell that they were homemade, they were crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was also a very generous portion size. The star of the meal is their Cantonese Wonton Soup, which I call the cure all of cure all's. There is something about their chicken stock that knocks out a cold. The soup was loaded with wontons, roasted pork and egg noodles. It is a meal unto itself. Their chicken stock is rich and has a nice accent of ginger and green onions. The food here is always excellent and the service was friendly and welcoming.

Best Fried Dumplings I have ever had!

By Ron M |

My wife and I decided to go to Chinatown for lunch while visiting NYC and just happened to pop into this place. We hadn't seen any reviews but figured we would give it a try. It wasn't a fancy restaurant but more of a small place with a few tables, but we were very pleasantly surprised! You can tell a good restaurant when it is full of locals! We had the Pan Fried Dumplings and they were to die for. We also had the Sweet & Sour pork and Gen Tao's chicken which were delicious. Very friendly staff. The waiter realized that when we ordered the 2 main dishes we didn't order rice so he came with a bowl of white sticky rice for free. I wish this place was in Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) where we live because we would certainly be regulars if it was!

My favorite in Chinatown

By danbd |

I know this restaurant for more than twenty years,Me and my wife used to eat here quite often when we lived in New York and than in every visit. About two years ago when we arrived to the place it was closed for renovation, well I must say it hasn't changed much.the food maybe got better. I arrived this time with my son and we loved every dish ,nothing like a hot bowl of wonton soup in a cold day . we even got back after a few days too sample some other dishes they were great too.the prices are very cheap and the food is great the only down side of the place is its size, its small and its gets quite full especially on weekend, when you might wait for a free table, Wait it worse it

Delicious!!

By Angela F |

The wonton noodle soup is out of this world!! I had the vegetarian dumplings in my soup because I don't like shrimp that are in the regular wontons and they were so good!!! My nephew had the wontons in his soup and loved it. My husband had the beef chow fun and it was the best he ever had!!

My go to place when I have a cold or flu; the BEST Cantonese Wonton Soup

By Justin W |

I love Wonton Noodle Garden. It is so typical Chinatown NY with the close tables and the crazy lines and noise. It is a restaurant that has been bustling for over thirty years. Just passing by and watching them cook in the window making their famous soups is fun. I am been watching the same guy make soup there for twenty years. When ever I feel a cold or flu coming on, this is the first place I go for a remedy. Their chicken soup is the best and is a real cure all. I always have the Cantonese Wonton Soup with Wontons, Roast Pork and Egg Noodles and I swear to God it clears what ever is in my system out and I feel terrific the next day. Plus the service and the food is excellent. I enjoy their roast pork buns, dumplings and spring rolls as well. You can walk out of there and not pay more than $20.00 with tip for a full meal. Their dishes are very good too if you like traditional Cantonese food but the soups are what I go for when I eat here. It is a very much New York experience.

It was just ok

We were looking for a dumpling place in China town. As we were walking by is place we noticed that the place was packed with customers. We figure that it must be a good place to try it out. Plus we could see the cook making meals over through the window and so we gave it a try. We ordered shumai and pan fried dumplings. They were just ok because I had ones that were better than ones I just had. I ordered a bowl and needle and dumplings as a main course. I am not sure how to describe this. It tasted like a bowl and Asian instant noodle soup with a few shrimp dumplings in it. Overall experience was just ok.

Superb authentic food

You always know you're in for a treat when one of these side-street eateries are bustling with regulars. Even the staff were eating there. We picked a couple of dishes (Sesame Chicken, Prawn and vegatables) with some Rice. We also tried the vegetarian dumplings - this is more than plenty for a meal, a dish each would be too much for most! Well cooked lovely tasting food all in with some tea and a tip was $60

Decent wonton noodles

By Tunaidi |

Wonton Noodle Garden serves up pretty decent wonton noodle soup and dumplings. They're probably not the best I've had, but definitely hits the spot when you're craving this kind of cuisine. It's cool that you can see them preparing them through the windows as well. Note that it seems that tip is automatically added, no matter the group size.

The best wontons & cow tendon noodles in Chinatown. Friendly service. Restaurant is small, food is good. Highly recommend it,

wonderful noodle

Small soft noodle with clear odorous soup was very good taste. Fish balls was not so good, may be more starch and less fish meat. Good service and fast delivery. Pricing was reasonable.

Our favorite in Chinatown NYC

We have frequented this authentic locale for over 15 years. Don't go here if you crave fancy. This is Chinatown and Chinatown is what you get. Shrimp and Pork dumplings never get tired and neither do the Pan Fried Noodles with Sweet and Sour Chicken.

Chinese food in Chinatown

Not a fancy restaurant by any means, but the food is very good and service is quick. Ate here with my husband and two adult children. We each ordered something different, plus fried rice. I had the shrimp and pork dumplings with noodles. The shrimp made the dumplings sweet. We also ordered the house special lo mein, General Tso’s chicken and pork lo mein. Everyone at the table raved. We will go back.

Nice surprise

Stumbled on this restaurant while looking for a place that accepted MasterCard. Word of warning many places are cash only or accept only am ex. The shanghai noodles and broth were tasty and their dumplings were more tender and tastier than a place more famous for dumplings around the corner. The place was clean and comfortable and the service was very good.

My favourite meal while in NY

Wonderful soups with noodles and dumplings. Kitchen is part of the restaurant and it is busy, noisy and doesn't look fancy on the inside but it was by far my favourite place and favourite meal while in NY. It is so reasonably priced aswell. It's hard in Chinatown because there is so much choice and we genuinely just stumbled on this place. LOVE IT.

Tasty Lunch

After three previous visits to NYC I finally made it to Chinatown. Decided to plan my visit during lunchtime, so I could try some noodles which are my favorite dish. Walked around upon arrival and found this cozy little place, which was quite packed when I arrived. But luckily there was a spot for me so I sat down and had a look at their menu. Decided to go for the noodles with duck. Whilst waiting for my order another waiter brought me a complimentary cup of hot green tea. The noodles were freshly cooked and came with slices of duck, veggies and a bowl of chicken broth on the side. It all tasted very good so I left the place quite satisfied. When I left it was still busy and there were even a bunch of people waiting to be seated. Recommended!

Been coming here since they opened in 1978 and it is still great!

I love coming to Wonton Noodle Garden. I have been coming here since I was in junior high and it is now almost 48 years later and I still enjoy the food and service. It was touch and go for a while with the restaurant due to COVID. They are now opened both inside and outside. I still love their Cantonese Wonton Soup with wontons, roast pork and egg noodles. It is the best cure all when you have a cold and still tastes just as good then as now and it still rids you of a cold. Their Spring Rolls are excellent as well. I always find the service to be very nice but they are getting busy again. People are pent up for Chinese food and going to Chinatown and it is coming back in strives. This will always be my 'go to' place for a nice dinner in Chinatown.

Yum!!

Found this after researching before our trip. Very glad we tried it!! It's a tiny little place so you're squashed in close to other guests and sit very close to the kitchen! The food was excellent, we love Chinese food and both agreed this was one of the best meals we'd had in a long time. It was all freshly prepared and nicely presented large portions and excellent value for money (rare in NYC!). The staff were friendly and efficient and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, would definitely go again if we could!
