Great food near everything

By Reisfield |

Tonkotsu ramen is excellent. The bowl is a great blend of different flavors that perfectly compliment each other. Price is good. Restaurant is centrally located. Highly recommended.

Very good. Fast. NYC Prices.

By LuvDaSun222 |

First, the food and service are very good. We went for a pre-show dinner around 5:15 and we had plenty of time for dinner and a couple drinks. You can expect that you'll pay a little more here as this is New York City. Cocktails are prices $2-3 over what you'd expect back home as well. Ramen bowls are excellent with plenty of options. Sushi is good as well. Service is quick and attentive. The Ramen bowls are plenty of food so -- come hungry.

Very good

By Elora |

Very good restaurant, the quality in relation to the price is suitable, but the sushi or sashimi costs between 3 and 7 euros a piece. Otherwise, the ramen and sushi are very good, we have a great time!

Ramen Shop with Nice Atmosphere!

By Travelover64 |

Unlike some other ramen shop, I would rather have a nice seating like this one. Ramen actually was no bad at all. The portion is quite big. The pork was very tasty. The only drawback was no enough soup with big bowl of noodle.

Good food but not young child friendly and lacking in service

By Elisa L |

We stopped here after visiting the Macy’s store around the block. The food was delicious but the service was not good at all, very difficult to get a servers attention, and this is a tiny place! Still we never got napkins even after requesting them 3 times. My 4 year old also got quite a few stares from the employees, even though she’s a ramen lover and our party was not loud. We all enjoyed the food but would not recommend if you have a small child.

Great place for Ramen!

By KMilleville |

This is a little place but they have each booth sectioned off with plastic so you have your own experience and feel pretty safe with Covid. The food is amazing! We had sushi and Ramen bowls. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive. They get you whatever you need and are very good at explaining the menu. I didn’t realize it was still happy hour where is their prices were lower and they pointed me to the lower price. I would come back here again!

Something for Everyone

By Gamberioni |

I would return. NYC is a ramen town, and I have to say that the ramen here was good. The sushi was fresh and well constructed too.The price point is reasonable ($50 for ramen, sushi and one round of sake). The menu has a lot of variety, including some more obscure favorites, like takoyaki (fried octopus fritters...trust me, much better than it sounds). If you can't decide between sushi and ramen, this is a good option.

Great Ramen

By Dan D |

We only tried the ramen here, we didn’t get to try the sushi. You will not leave here hungry, huge portions and quality ingredients. Very well done.

Excellent sushi, ramen, and service. Try the happy hour!

By Michael D |

Excellent sushi and ramen. Really enjoyed our quick visit here. Had some good Japanese beer and sake, plus green tea and brown sugar matcha ice cream. Jimmy at the bar was awesome, and all of the service overall was really great. Definitely will be back. Also - happy hour 4-8 is a really great deal. <$20 a person all in.

Great food and super kid friendly

By mariaortiz |

I visited this place for dinner with my young daughter and niece and the staff were super friendly. They hay special cups and colorful plastic plates for the girls which was a very nice touch. The food was really good, the sticky buns delicious. I very much recommend this place.

Sushi good......ramen - not so great

By Buz S |

Picked up food to go (staying at hotel across the street) and although the Sushi was fine the 'special' tempura crayfish appetizer was drenched in sweet and sour sauce...and the ramen was not up to the price point.

Excellent Japanese restaurant for both Sushi and Ramen

By irtrips |

We were here twice. Once for the sushi, and second time for ramen. Both times were very enjoyable. Extensive menu and quick food delivery. Place is small and we waited 501- minutes each time for a table.

Sushi fix

By Elsie S |

Our last night in the city, wanted to eat sushi close by in a not touristy rest. Had seen Zen Ramen sushi a few times walking up and down street but it was not eye catching and always looked empty?! We ended up across the street and were pleasantly surprised! Place was packed w locals?! And we had to wait 15mn to be seated. The place is small and u get draft of cold air whenever some comes in so u may want to sit in back. We ordered crawfish tempura bater-delicious, a 🍜 spicy soup appetizer - very spicy 🌶- don't order, and few rolls banzai tree (no rice) & the salmon lovers combo (salmon sashimi sushi & roll)- pretty good. The service was fast however typical Asian service "take ur order fast w no explanation or suggestions unless u ask, don't see sever again till they drop whatever is ready from ur order on table, then you flag them for your bill when ready to go. No small talk or how was your dinner. Overall experience -3 out of 5 would go again if stayed in same hotel- it's easy fast and un eventful.

Good Takeaway!

By nillalexander |

Ordered a spicy tonkotsu ramen from here the other day when I was feeling under the weather and it was delicious! Just the right amount of spiciness (I like a lot). Also came with free edamame which was so nice. Very friendly cashier too!

delicious

By MENTON06500 |

A great restaurant at decent prices! We tasted a beef ramen soup and gyozas! Everything was delicious! Only little flat! the room is quite noisy!

Great price, great food, great time

By GilS |

We came here for sushi at lunch and came back for ramen in the evening. Huge ramen portion, super tasty and highly recommended!

Great food

By Fabrizio M |

A very authentic Japanese restaurant in Midtown, excellent food and friendly staff. Reasonable priced

Great solo sushi

By Jim A |

I was in the area for a quick overnight biz meeting, stayed in a nearby hotel and needed a good but quick bite to eat. Wanted some sushi if possible so gave Zen a try. Got a seat at the bar right away since I was solo, wait was otherwise 20 mins. Tried Chef’s Sashimi Platter and loved it. Coupled with a Lucky Chicken IPA it hit the mark. Will be back again.

Good choice. Very busy.

By Alan L |

I had the spicy seafood Ramen and my friend had the vegetarian Ramen. They were both very good. I don’t like my food too spicy and this was right on the borderline. I enjoyed it. With tip, it was about 50 bucks for lunch which seemed a little high to me. The place was packed and everyone seemed to be loving it and having a good time. Hey, it’s New York so if it’s good, then it’s going to be busy. It was a good choice overall.

Authentic Ramen worth your penny

By Edz |

The best ramen I had in my 3 days stay in New York. The service is fast and servers were attended to your needs. I will definitely go back!

Exquisite ramen

By laura w |

Great place not only for the food, which is very rich, but for the atmosphere. We went to eat ramen and it was delicious, plus it was super abundant. I also recommend lychee mojito. We liked it because it seemed we weren’t all tourists, although we were asked to post the site on instagram.

Legit Sushi

By Mhak10102020 |

I ate here with friends. We just made it in for Happy Hour so drinks were cheaper. Sushi was great and well priced. Specialty rolls were outstanding. They have a roll with guacamole on it. It was odd but fantastic. Prices were very reasonable. Service was fine if a bit slow. They forgot to make/bring us our drinks. It was quite busy so that may have been the reason. Food was good enough I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Location is very small. Expect to wait as there are only approximately 18 tables (may have been fewer). Would definitely return. Note: We did not get the Ramen but it looked and smelled good.

Good Japanese with atmosphere

By Mister_Vico |

Excellent choice not far from Time Square. Sushi, sashimi and maki tested. Yum. Yummy. We will return there on our next visit.

Good ramen

By kcanavan2010 |

This crowded place has a good 4 to 8 happy hour only for drinks. Their food is good noodles were over cooked though. Prices are not cheap 17 usd for ramen . Their sushi is fresh but small for 4 usd a piece, as it is crowded you are pressured to leave every 5 minutes

Excellent Ramen noodle house

By Ronin L |

Can't say that I've had restaurant ramen before but if it's anything like the spicy tonkatsu here at Zen Ramen & Sushi I'd be a ramen eating fool. My bowl was empty a few minutes after it landed in front of me. I can't say enough about the broth. I think that's what really solidify all the ingredients together as one delicious bowl of noodles.

Fabulous sushi near Penn Station

By Murph3236 |

I was looking for some good sushi before catching a train from Penn Station - i found Zen Ramen & Sushi on Trip Advisor and it and it was fabulous! The rolls were extremely fresh and tasty.

Great Food

By Neka B |

We walked across this restaurant on our way to ComicCon NYC and decided to have it for dinner and we made the best choice in the world. I can't speak highly of how great the Tom Yum Soup is. I could have eaten the entire pot if I was given the opportunity. Then I had the Chicken Katsu and I could have died so happy. I can't wait to try something else the next time I visit NYC.

Sushi is average but I would go back....

By Mange2teTA |

6 of us had dinner and all of us found something we liked on the menu. Ramen got GREAT reviews. I had the sushi---which was good---but isn't going to blow you away. Price point was decent---service was good. I would go back.

Happy hour

By Hitcher84 |

Stopped here for dinner before a show and it was happy hour, between 4-8. They have a large number of appetizers and sushi rolls for $5 each. Beer, wine, and cocktails also $5 each. We had a lot of sushi and it was all delicious. Great inexpensive choice for a bite near Times Square.

Very good Ramen and Sushi

By Avi911 |

We stoped here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the food. We had a good seafood Ramen and than a sushi combination. Prices are moderate, service is very good and food is great.

LOVED LOVED LOVED! We ate here Twice!

By Michelle P |

We fell in love with this restaurant! We loved everything about it! The sushi was fresh and the Japanese Curry with chicken was amazing! My husband had the Katsu with pork and he LOVED it!! We love Japanese restaurants that gave the green tea mochi. Not all have that and we love it!

Best Ramen hands down!!!!

By SOL D |

Food and service is beyond exceptional! Attentive, fast, and very accommodating!!!! Whenever you're in the city make this one of your stops. By the way great Happy about between 5-7

Great hole in the wall place

By Sandra A |

Definitely order steam buns as an appetizer. Delicious! My son had ramen which he lived and I had a sushi bento box. Lots of food for a good price

Authentic, amazing New York food!

By Christel B |

Amazing! We stayed across the street at Moxy and watched a steady stream of people go in and out and decided we had to give it a try! Authentic food, great service!

Delicious Ramen

By HollyBlue85 |

I came here after being in New York for a week and desperate for some veg in my meal. I was not disappointed! I had one if the best Ramen’s I’ve ever had. I went fir the seafood one, and was definitely satisfied when I’d finished. It was yummy with plenty of flavour and fish... but most importantly for me at the time, it has veg! I also got a great beer there too. The service was great and the music was ok. After a long day of tourist activity, I was glad to find this place for a bite to eat. I ate at a bar, so didn’t feel exposed being sat alone. There were plenty of groups coming into the restaurants so I’d definitely recommend this place if you like Japanese cuisine.

Nice People and Good Ramen

By Greg A |

I ate here with my son during a recent trip to New York. I have eaten ramen in Tokyo, and while this is not exactly the same as what I ate there, I give it high marks for authenticity and flavor. The staff was very friendly. My only complaint, which is minor, would be that ramen typically comes with different levels of heat/spiciness, which the customer specifies. I had to order chili paste separately, and I requested it to be very hot. It was not really very hot at all. I think the chili paste is not very hot, and they have no ability to make the ramen any hotter. All in all, however, the meal was delicious, and I highly recommend eating here. The prices are very affordable as well.

Excellent Food, BUT

By Jim A |

Coming out of the gate to say the food here was Excellent! Like some other reviews, everything else suffers. Started off with Gyoza and drinks which promptly came out. Then for dinner, i had the Spicy Beef Ramen and she had the Bento box. My Ramen came out in a flash! About three minutes. Then crickets! Her dinner was TWENTY minutes behind e after asking three people. It was forgotten. The manager made it come faster, and we were rewarded for our wait by being offered another drink at happy hour prices. Our servers, Aiden Soo and Hgai Loon, were missing in action as most of the help here. That alone is what got the three-star review, which we stick by. Great food, but it might be frustrating.

Excellent option for sushi and remen!!

By Ceardi |

Excellent alternative to eat sushi in NY, very good food, pleasant atmosphere and fair prices. Totally recommended, but it is not for children.

Black Garlic Oil ramen delicious

By Julia N |

A group of 8 of us went here for dinner on a Sunday evening. Even though they don’t take reservations, we were seated quickly. I ordered the first ramen item with black garlic oil/thick noodles and the broth was soooo good. My sister ordered a different one and decided to taste my broth. Later she said she wished she got mine. I like how you can pick whether you want thin or thick noodles, straight or curly. Other people ordered the sushi but I don’t recall whether they thought it was good or not. Our waiter, Jimmy, was friendly and very accommodating. One of the girls had a birthday so he brought green tea ice cream for us all. I would definitely go back for the black garlic oil again!

Great prices, great food!

By Culture14476880509 |

Wow, the prices here are great! I went during the lunch special and I got, as you can see in the picture- 18 rolls! For $11! Even outside of special hours, the prices are great for the portion. The atmosphere was nice and cozy and the employees were very quick and friendly.

Good food.. questionable service

By tiramisoo |

Food was great for the price, good bento, sushi and ramen. Service was questionable, staff not very friendly but food came out quick

Great happy hour

By aniram |

Fire happy hour starting at 4pm!! We shared crispy wings, miso soup, spicy white tuna roll, spicy yellowtail roll, and few other rolls. Born junsui cold sake and lychee martinis hit the spot all for a great price

Good sushi and decent ramen

By Digger0713 |

Stopped here for lunch shortly after opening and got seated right away. Ordered the spicy beef ramen and two sushi rolls (eel avocado and spicy tuna). The sushi came out first and was very good. The spicy beef ramen followed shortly after and was decent. The spice level was excellent and the beef was very tender and delicious. There was cabbage pieces in the ramen and though it states they are in the bowl, I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. I've never had ramen with cabbage pieces in it before. It gave it a different texture, but I think I would ask to have it excluded from the bowl next time. Other than that, it was a very good and filling lunch. I would come back again.

Good food, good prices, good service

By NellieNyack_NY |

This was my first time eating ramen and I'm so glad I had it at this restaurant. It's a small restaurant and the hostess is very proficient in filling all the seats. The place is well lit and clean. The sushi bar in the front really shows off the talents of the chefs. The menu lists sushi and ramen dishes with descriptions. Very good green tea is on the house. The service is efficient and speedy. The waiter will help a customer new to this cuisine. The food is very fresh, spicey and really quite delicious. There are ramen and rice noodle dishes to satisfy most palates. We added an appetizer to our order (gyoza) which was excellent. We arrived about 11:50 and the place was really buzzing by 12:30. Highly recommended.

PERFECT

By Erin D |

I absolutely love this restaurant. Great food - We had the freshest salmon / avo sushi I have ever tasted and the ramen was unbelievably fresh and delicious... Service - attentive. Price/ value - exactly right..I even liked the low key vibe.. super clean.. I highly recommend this gem in the garment district...

Spicy ramen

By Giu Gis |

The restaurant was packed. However, we got very fast a table for two. We ordered two spicy ramen. It came fast and was very delicious. The portion is big and the spice was not too hot (For a beginer).

The ramen disappointed me

By Alpanfilo |

We ate two appetizers which were good, especially the fried shrimp. the place is nice and the staff friendly, unfortunately the ramen in my opinion was completely characterless, I was imagining something tastier from the reviews. The seafood ramen is tasteless and has little fish.

Great Noodles

By Matthew Steven |

Short wait for lunch but well worth it. Spicy beef noodles were delicious. Great service. Food came quickly. Great place.

Good food and atmosphere.

By SalandBrad |

We recently had dinner here as a couple and it was very nice. We both had noodles and both dishes were very good. The prices are very good, the staff friendly and the place had a good atmosphere. Based on our experience we would highly recommend this restaurant.

GARBAGE

By Amir J |

The order was wrong, the food was horrible and we never got proper seating. They just put two tables together. It was just one waiter working. He did the best he can but everything else was trash.

One good quick bite

By KatherineQ |

Perfect place to grab something fast and not overpriced. They offer sushi, salads, and ramen of course which was pretty tasty.

Good alternative to burgers

By MaMa |

Good food, great service. Ramen also vegetarian. Delicious Ramen with vegetables, Edamame and Gyoza with vegetables available. Prices normal.

Excellent meal! Worth a visit

By Juliana D |

Excellent food and service! We came during happy hour and jimmy really took care of us. High quality sushi and the ramen was so flavorful. We will definitely return!

Good, but not great

By GKBrash |

We decided that we were going to do Ramen for dinner. We found a place that was a short 15 minute walk from the hotel. We got there and were able to be seated immediately even though the place was getting busier. We noticed that they did have sushi and appetizer specials until 7:00pm and some drink specials until 8:00 pm. I started with a tuna and cucumber roll as well as a Sapporo beer served with a chilled glass. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen which consisted of beef broth, roasted Chashu beef, green cabbage, scallion, arugula, menma bamboo, sweet corn, spicy bean sprouts, tanaka with homemade spicy paste and shredded red hot pepper. The service was fast and the bowl was very full. The two large pieces of beef were tender and the thick ramen noodles were done well. My only issue was that there was a vegetable in the ramen that left a bitter aftertaste. Now that could be my issue since I have the same reaction to cilantro. Anyway the bitter aftertaste did color my dining experience. The broth was spicy as advertised. As I mentioned the service was fast, friendly and attentive. The ramen was not bad, but I have had better in LA. Many more places to explore in NYC in a limited amount of time.

Delicious dinner in Manhattan!

By Rafael R |

Food is delicious and prices are not bad. Service is great. We came twice because we really like it. We tried ramen and sushi and it was great idea!

Quality and great service

By Clau Espinoza |

I had dinner here in my first night in Manhattan. The place was near to hotel so it was super convenient. I ordered ramen and It was so delicious. I could tell the quality and the freshness of the ingredients. If you are looking for comfort in the form of a ramen bowl, this is the place.

Place was absolutely rammed-en

By mgcampbell1101 |

Cheeky little find after a long bus journey. Good happy hour and excellent sushi. Recommend the spicy seafood ramen and rock shrimp was a new for me- very very good. Place is a bit small and a questionable playlist

Great sushi!

By robyn4569 |

Went here for dinner with friends and we all enjoyed our food! The sushi was very fresh and while I personally did not take advantage of their happy hour the bang for your buck is great. Our server Lily was so nice and as it was my friends birthday she brought them both out a scoop of ice cream. Overall we had a very positive dining experience.

What I would call good Ramen

By Joseph G |

It was a decent bowl of ramen. Not too salty. Good portion. Atmosphere was nice. Clean resturaunt. My only complaint is that if you're charging me extra to make it spicy....first off. Make it spicy. Secondly, give me enough on the side that I can keep adding.

Delicious, fresh

By Peggy M |

We were walking and decided to drop in here for sushi/dinner. We had no reservation, but the wait was only about 10 minutes, and the hostess was very nice. We ate at the bar and it was comfortable and relaxing. Food was served quickly and the portions were nice. Everything we had was delicious….several different rolls, appetizers and a rice dish for my husband. Service was good, food was fresh.

Yum!!!!

By Dana B |

It's not a big place and when we walked in at 5:30, the place was empty. By 5:45 every seat was filled and the bar 3/4 full! Service was friendly and quick. Miso was wonderful. Hot and large. The house salad was rather ordinary. The sushi was AWESOME! Generous sized rolls and delicious. I highly recommend!

Great weekday dinner

By geharris89 |

Came here based on a friends recommendation and glad we did. Beautiful fresh sushi, enjoyed the bento box and gyoza. The miso soup let it down but just wouldn’t chose that again. Well worth it for the food. Other reviews have said they are rude, wouldn’t say that at all, they don’t fuss over you which I prefer! Definitely would go back

Great Ramen, Sushi!

By Wesley B |

We ventured to Zen on Saturday night at about 8:45 P.M. Tiny, narrow and deep room had tables and a sushi bar full of customers. We waited for 15 minutes for some delicious food! My wife enjoyed the spicy Shoyu Ramen while I had sushi - the Coconut Shrimp roll and the Tiger Roll. We shared a six piece gyosa. The gyosa was browned on one side and paired with a delicious sweet sauce. My wife’s Ramen was a delicious, generous serving of Ramen with two eggs and plenty of ingredients. Although the pork was not her style, the meat was thickly cut and cooked through.

Food was not good!

By Kate M |

Sushi were not good at all. Also the size of one piece was soooo big. You will need a knife to cut it to put in to your mouth. One sushi piece I should fit in to your mouth without using a knife.

Great spot for Ramen!

By tcodner108 |

My husband and I were craving some yummy, authentic ramen and sushi and we stopped in at Zen Ramen while in NYC. The place is small so we waited no more than 10 minutes on a Friday night for vegetable and pork ramen along with tuna sashimi which melted in my mouth! I was impressed with the happy hour menu and ordered a lychee martini which was excellent and $5! The food was incredible and the place was relaxed. Service was excellent as well!

Good Filling

By Foodloveralways28 |

Trying this ramen place in the heart of big Apple area , not a bad choice , this port ramen a pretty good filling , soup & noddle both delicious, the port’s portions not small too, compare other reman place , well enough for u in a hungry cold day

Very underwhelming

By Melanie T |

I had dinner plans with a friend on a Thursday night and needed a restaurant that was close to Penn Station. Sushi and ramen are usually crowd-pleasers, and I had this place on my bookmark so I thought, why not? We came in at around 6 (no reservations), and the place was already pretty packed. Plus, the layout of the tables has a weird set up, so it's probably not the most efficient use of space. Still, we were seated immediately. To start, we had some chicken karaage from their happy hour menu. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. It was a bit over-fried. For the main, we decided to order a bunch of rolls to share: the Napoleon Roll (Inside Spicy tuna, soft shell crab, mango & avocado, topped with lobster salad and jalapeno), the Lady Gaga (Shrimp Tempura, Eel, Avocado, Top W. Spicy Tuna, Spicy Tuna, Tobiko, Crunchy, Soy Bean Paper & Mango Sauce), tuna avocado roll, and a salmon roll. The two special rolls tasted pretty similar. In fact, I couldn't really tell the difference between the two. There was just too much going on. I preferred the basic rolls over these. Not enough for me to come back though. Maybe their ramen is better? Either way, I don't think I'll be back - my stomach felt a bit funny afterwards so I'm not sure if it was the sushi or something I ate earlier. Tip - happy hour til 7. But don't get any of the cocktails. It's pure sugar. I couldn't even finish the Tokyo Tea I ordered.

Fusion food

By TravelEatXplore |

Stopped by to for Japanese food. You need to show your vaccines card and ID before you can eat indoor. Popular place, but mainly for tourists. The food is fusion at best. The staffs are really nice and friendly. We got the spicy mama roll. I am not sure this roll is popular. I didn't find or taste any spicy tuna, spicy salmon or spicy yellowtail. Maybe it was the sauce? It just a rice with asparagus. The cucumber has good flavor. The octopus ball was good. Has crunch to it. The spicy tonkotsu shoyu was ok. The broth lack flavor and it was over powering by the spices. If you want fusion food. Then it's the place. It's isn't authentic for me

So good we repeated the next night

By allan m |

We really enjoyed the sashimi and ramen (large bowl, and just the thing for a cold evening) and sushi - suitable for vegetarians, too.

Cozy neighborhood Japanese with amazing sushi ramen

By ReturntoWaiheke |

Both the sushi and ramen were outstanding. Extraordinary menu to choose from with so many options. Service is friendly and helpful. Unlike most NYC restaurants, they are not hurrying you out the door. Cannot wait to go back and work my way through the various ramen!

Great Ramen

By diegos24 |

Child friendly restaurant in the city. Best Ramen I have had. Sushi was good as well and it didn’t take forever. I would definitely come back again.

Great little place with good food

By Codeman22 |

We went for New Year’s Eve celebration and really wanted sushi. This was one of the best sushi rolls I have had. Definitely number two on my list of good sushi places. The ramen bowl was my first adventure for restaurant ramen and it was very good as well. Gave it a four because we had a tough time asking questions to the hosts as they didn’t speak very good English. I would give five stars if they had someone that could explain the menu in English so we were able to order just the right foods for us. But it was very good. I would recommend and I would go back.

Fabulous Food

By LooLoo80S |

Great food. The quality was outstanding. Very popular, but they made space for us, on a busy night. Service is efficient, and quick.

Fresh Sushi and Hearty Ramen

By CW |

We had lunch at Zen Ramen and ordered a heaping bowl of vegetable ramen soup and two sushi rolls - eel + avocado and Yellowtail. The soup was brimming with great vegetables such as bok choy, mushrooms, cabbage and even asparagus, The sushi rolls were very fresh and delicious. Each lunch came with either a salad or edaname. Very good value! The only hitch in the meal was that the soup arrived way sooner than the sushi rolls. My dining companion was halfway through his soup before my rolls arrived. A better food coordination would give this place five stars, in my opinion.

Line out the door!

By Mos70 |

When there is a line out out the door on a Tuesday night it's a good sign. I was solo and able to get right in thankfully! Cozy and somewhat loud atmosphere. Fast (bordering on brusque) but still courteous service. I went with a pork ramen bowl and it was delicious. Ingredients were fresh, and the portion was the perfect size. This isn't the best ramen I've ever had. That title goes to Kitakata Ramen in Santa Ana which was introduced to me by people from Japan. That said, the Ramen here is still really good! I'd say in my top 5. Added bonus, prices were pretty cheap for New York. This place is not really kid or wheelchair friendly. It's way too small and crowded.

A good if not extraordinary ramen restaurant

By Philippe G |

The place is rather spacious with light wood and a clear atmosphere. The fried chicken is lightly marinated with a little hint of spices. Shoyu ramen: the stock is a bit white and has a certain flavor of sesame oil. The thick noddle are nice and yes thick. It is good but not extraordinary

Great food and sizeable portions!

By gileshankinson |

We found this gem through Tripadviser. We knew it wasn't going to be the best looking restaurant in town but hoped the food would be as good as the reviews said. It was! The food was great and I had quite possibly the best ever Ramen I've had in my life. The kids had sushi and Katsu curry, which they both loved. Portions are big! Mid priced, the total meal including beers and wine came to US$200, good value considering its in the heart of NYC

Lively Spot for Tasty Noodles

By Jeffrey B |

My wife and I dropped by on a Friday night and the place was packed. The waiter apologized for the slow service --the kitchen was backed up, he said -- and gave us a free bowl of edamame. My Udon noodles in a savory broth with a side bowl of fried chicken pieces was excellent; my wife said her egg noodles with beef was also very good.

Ramen and Sushi hit the spot!

By Mark A |

My wife and I had spent the day walking the whole of Manhattan and we wanted a solid, hearty and delicious, meal to perk us up and build up our strength and we found the right place. Barely metres from our hotel this place was perfect for our aching legs. The service was friendly and knowledgable and the dishes were scrumptious. It was so great we came back two days later!

Great service, ok ramen

By Martin C |

Looking for something not touristy near macy’s Is usually hard. Not the case with this Ramen place.service was fast and friendly bowls were big and full two people in our group actually split a bowl. In ramen, broth is king. This one is ok.

Amazing Happy Hour!

By Julia |

This restaurant has really amazing happy hour prices! Sushi rolls and appetizers were $5 each, so for my group of 4 it was an amazing deal for dinner. We did have to wait almost 45 minutes for a table because it was so busy and we weren't being seated. However, the food was really good, and we ended up having a great night. If you are looking for a place for happy hour, this is the place to go, but go when it starts otherwise you will have a long wait.

Great food, friendly staff.

By Richard C |

We are a family of 4. We wanted sushi but did not want exagerated prices. We found this place highly rated on Trip Advisor but it was fully booked. We showed up anyway and the lady that greeted us offered to call me back as soon as a table would become available. She was realky nice with us. It took 45 minutes and we were called. It was worth the wait! The staff was courteous and helpful. We had ramens and sushi and it turns out that it was one of our favorite meals during our 4 days stay in NYC. We all recommend highly this small but really nice restaurant.

Excellent Ramen

By ETVT |

My family and I stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday. We arrived minutes before the lunch rush. We were seated and then the restaurant filled up with a line out the door. We had sushi, sashimi, steamed buns with pork belly and tonkotsu ramen and beef ramen. All were fantastic. The ramen portions are huge so go hungry! Service was quick and efficient but was not the most friendly. I would go back again.

Awesome sushi and ramen!

By Genevieve M |

We love to come back here everytime we’re craving ramen :) They made sure to accommodate us for a table and Jimmy was a very considerate server! Definitely recommend the Karagge chicken.

So-so food

My daughter wanted to try a ramen restaurant and this one was close to our hotel. The veggie ramen dish she ordered was pretty good, especially the broth but I was disappointed in the sushi I ordered. The rolls were pretty bland and uninspiring. The eel roll was OK but not enough to over come the others. Maybe the lesson here is when at a ramen restuarant order the ramen. We did order and get our food very quickly, less than an hour from entering to leaving.

Best ramen ever !!!

By jcgonzalezf |

My wife an I just came very tired from a Washington DC bus trip and that delicious ramen gave us the boost we needed to keep walking on Manhattan. This is absolutely the best ramen we ever tried and the service was great too. Keep the good work guys !!!

perfect, from start to finish.

By Alexsandro B |

It gives the feeling of really being in something "local", not touristy, very pleasant atmosphere, very cool experience of sitting on a U-shaped bench with other people, impeccable service from Mrs. Wen, giving suggestions on what was the best choice for us. incredible food, we took a seaweed starter and for dinner tonkatsu ramen and seafood which were spectacular,

Japanese Delight

Perfect place for fast accurate practical but friendly service and a very !! delicious suprising food. Yess I'll be back

Most salty ramen I’ve ever tasted. So much so, I couldn’t eat it. It was like getting a mouthful of water in the ocean.

So good

By Jackie |

Food was amazing! Jimmy was such a great server and really helpful. I recommend the beef ramen! Definitely will come back

Amazing ramen

By TrishBoc |

Wow what a great find! This place was busy for lunch but the service was still excellent. We each had some ramen - I chose the Tonkotsu ramen and the guys had the spicy version. It was so flavorful - and a really big portion. We also had some sushi that was excellent - the fish was very fresh. If you are nearby definitely stop by for a meal. The food is reasonably priced for NYC and the service is great. Very friendly staff.

Awesome vegetarian ramen noodles Very few restaurants have vegan options Loved sake tried for the first time

GREAT RAMEN

By frequenttravel13 |

This place has great ramen. It was very busy, but we arrived at the right time an were seated right away. Service was very quick. We would go again.

Great food, Great value!

By Jen T |

I would highly recommend Zen Ramen and Sushi for anyone looking for a casual sushi restaurant, that won't break the bank. We've had some bad experiences (what we like to call "cat food sushi") in the city, and are always worried about choosing someplace that isn't super expensive, but Zen didn't disappoint! Sushi and Bento box were delicious!!!! Waitstaff extremely friendly and helpful, too!!

Good Sushi

By hornman1usa |

It was our last day and wanted something before heading to the airport. Te restaurant is small, but plenty of seating. The sushi was good and fresh. Service was quick and prices were ok. I would recommend them for lunch and will return again.

Makis were delicious … Service Excellent

By Stan A |

We were looking for a neighbourhood restaurant within walking distance of our hotel and decided to try Zen … it was a HIT! The place was crowded but we took the seats at the bar and were happy to do so. We shared several sets of Maki Rolls which were made right before our eyes by the chefs and we acknowledged them with a tip for making them so tasty! The server suggested the 'crispy chicken wings' and they were OK … We were in and out in a very short time and there were still others waiting to get in … always a good sign!

Excellent! I thought I knew good Ramen but this was better.

By Reedsme |

Glad we gave this place a try. My husband’s first Ramen experience and he enjoyed it. We had the spicy Shoyu Ramen. The Bao bun was great too, obviously freshly made, the frozen stuffed kind I’m used to having at Asian restaurants. I concur with the good ratings, recommend this place!

Come for the Ramen

By Corey R |

Small eatery - NYC - ramen was exceptional and the staff was quick and helpful with some menu items. Would recommend if you are near midtown.

I will come back!

By deelites |

A little pricey but delicious! The service was great! I dont have much else to say but trip advisor wants more words 😂

Decent restaurant

By Janelle S |

I had lunch here with a friend here. The menu has a mix of udon noodles, sushi, teriyaki beef and chicken and just an Asian fusion that's easy to select from. It is a sit down restaurant. I had the beef with veggies and miso soup. Everything was delicious. However, since this is Manhattan and most of the Patrons work nearby, they focus on speed. You will be asked many times if you need anything (hint hint, the check) so that they can clear you out to seat the next customer. Other than that, the food is good.

Happy Hour pre MSG

By Elfma |

Two blocks from the Garden, Zen Ramen has a great happy hour menu, a very millennial crowd and zippy service.

Delicious and Fresh

By Valerie T |

Ate here for 2 meals during our 96 hour NYC trip. Had the ramen and then our next meal had the Tuna Lovers sushi combo. Excellent and fresh! Staff were great and welcoming. A lovely little restaurant to enjoy a nice meal and then walk to Times Square to burn all the calories off!

Loved sushi

By cesareba |

Great service and great food. I had sushi and the combination was very nice with tastes I never had before. Very very nice

Rude host and hostess

By VeekeeRox |

I wanted to like Zen, but the host and hostess were just so rude. The hostess/cashier ignored me for over ten minutes and when I said I wanted to get my name on the waiting list, she said “you don’t have name on list?” Uh, no, since you’ve served literally five people ahead of me and answered several phone calls while pointedly ignoring me, I actually don’t. Then when after the 30 minutes we were told it would be, and the party of three who got on the list after us were seated ahead of us, I finally went and reminded the host we existed, the host deigned to take our order despite no table. Then, we were finally seated, same host told us we were so lucky to get fed, since kitchen was closing in 8 minutes (it was over 20 minutes til they closed, and over an hour since we arrived). Food arrived fairly fast, but didn’t have all the ingredients on the menu (no egg or seaweed in my son’s spicy tonkatsu ramen) and my vegetarian ramen was not hot enough. It tasted really good, and our waiter was good and gracious, but the experience was overall pretty unpleasant. One table of three were turned away unapologetically with over a half hour til closing, and left cursing and yelling. I don’t know, it wasn’t really all that busy. Certainly, when I was in food service on Saturday (not even off freaking Times Square in the busiest city in America), we never expected to leave right at closing time, and didn’t act like we were doing our customers huge favors when they had arrived over an hour beforehand.

Excellent Raman After a Day of Drinking!

By Jon G |

We ate around 9pm and there was a 20 minute wait for a table. It was well worth the wait! The appetizers were great and the Raman was delicious.

Best ramen ever

By Jamie Rose |

Omg this place is awesome. Super fast service and literally the best ramen I have had - including when in Japan!!

Great food, 🍲 so-so service

By lt_fairy |

Took my daughters here for dinner before a show. Very busy and we waited 30 minutes for a table they could have given us from the beginning. We sat outside so we could eat. Food was amazing! Very good. Service was so-so. Price point reasonable for Times Square. Great ramen and huge portions. I would get take out next time. 😂

Absolutely wonderful!

By brianinphilly10 |

Visited early on a Sunday evening.. was almost full. It’s a smallish but groovy place with modern sushi-joint style - bars and tables. Spicy seafood ramen was outrageously good. Rolls were creative and fresh with perfectly done rice. Run, don’t walk!.

Ramen and Sushi are both good choices

By Alice L |

This is a good place for a quick solo lunch and the service is quick and helpful with suggestions. The ramen is reliable and good. I sat at the food bar and noticed most order the sushi lunch specials. Price is reasonable for good quality and quick service. I have come twice and would come again.

Sushi 🍣 was great!

By Piperatlanta |

Super busy. We went around 6pm. Small place so not that many seats. They seems to have a very busy take out (who doesn’t in downtown). We didn’t have to wait too long for a table for two. We were totally in the mood for sushi 🍣 but the Raman bowls looked great. Next time. The sushi was fresh and very flavorful. We didn’t finish all of them because each bite was a mouth full. We ordered salad which was large enough for two+ The miso was hot and tasted. They were really Busy so I want knock them but they Seemed to be pushy were we stand while waiting for a table (close quarters) and when we were done with our mea they implied they wanted us to go. Otherwise, it was good. They were attentive.

Great food

By Anal37 |

Serving was huge... We ordered Beef and Seafood Ramen, Chicken Curry, Katso Pork and Chicken. Service was good.. will go back.

One of my daughter's favorite midtown restaurants

By Charming_Karl |

It is hard to find really good sushi in NYC. But there are many places that sell decent sushi. I would put Zen Ramen & Sushi in that category. When we want to meet for lunch in the neighborhood, my adult daughter and I will often meet here. She likes the sushi and the ramen, while I stick to the sushi rolls.

Amazing ramen w/ great broth

By livingthedreamX2 |

I’m a vegetarian and the vegetarian ramen bowl was very good. A lot of fresh veggies and mushrooms. Sometimes in vegetarian ramen dishes the broth is lacking, NOT HERE ... broth was fantastic.

Tasty ramen and convenient

By David B |

I was taking the 1 subway uptown, and wanted noodles. Got off at 34th street and Zen was reasonably close. I enjoyed the Spicy Tonkotsu ramen, and the serving was plenty large enough to keep me happy on the long train ride back to New Haven. I would definitely go back again.

Not good sushi and watery ramen

By Nada |

I wouldn't recommend this place. The meals are too expensive for what you get, the sushi was warm and the ramen broth was watery. The only thing we enjoyed was the cucumber salad and the seaweed salad, which were average.

Im a regular and im so disappointed in what happened today. Ive gone over 100 times. Was then forced to give a tip.

By Brian R |

I've never written a review, but todays experience was so bad, i think its justified. I'm a regular and the sushi was so fishy i had to throw it out. Shocked. I then asked to have my sushi to go, because i didn't want to be rude. I go to pay, and the waiter hands me back my paid receipt and asks me to choose a tip option. Keep in mind, I was there for less than 15 minutes. To think they would treat a customer whose been going religiously, I'm so sad and ashamed. I will never go back. And I've easily spent over $1000 dollars there. You know who I am, and you lost my business forever.

Excellent ‘hidden’ gem in midtown!

By Trendbytes |

I have stayed across the street at the Moxy several times and somehow overlooked this Japanese gem because the signage makes it appear Chinese. Once you enter, you are in an oasis of good taste. Even the water is flavored with mint and lemon. I had lunch on 2 consecutive days, eel lunch one day and a bento box the next. Everything was delicious, exceedingly fresh(no stringy tuna here!) and worthy of 5 stars. Do not miss this hidden gem!

Best ramen!

By Keegan Oschger |

I had the vegetable ramen (spicy option) and it was simply the best! Tried a few other places in China Town, but stumbled upon this gem and was not disappointed!

Excellent ramen

By CentralCATraveler |

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. Arrived shortly after it opened, and was not crowded at all. Tables and bar seating with large TV, nice decor. Had the Tonkotsu ramen which was very good. Also, spicy tuna roll was good. Close to Macy’s and walk to Times Square.

This small sushi and armen

By Kjella |

This small sushi and armen restaurant was very nice to visit. Very good sushi, and very popular. I liked the food really good, and nice service AS well.

Hidden Gem - great food, great price, great service!

By Jonathon W |

Real Hidden Gem! We were staying in a hotel up the road from Zen, and wanted a quick and easy dinner & weren't disappointed. Brilliant ambiance, great service, delicious food, very good value! Wenti was lovely & couldn't have done enough for us, constantly filling water, clearing tables and making sure we were enjoying our food. We went during Happy Hour & had SO much food and a few drinks for exceptionally good value. 100% my favourite dinner out on this trip to New York. We will be back next time!

Quality ramen with large portions

By Austin G |

We stumbled upon Zen Ramen & Sushi when we were in the area with a hungry baby. Yelp suggested it so we went and left impressed. Here's why: 1) The ramen: It's really good and comes in a massive bowl. The shoyu ramen is creamy and the sweet corn brings out the rest of the dish. 2) The space: For NYC, it's pretty big with plenty of seats. They even have high chairs for kids. 3) The speed: They get you in and out without you feeling rushed. We'd go back for quality ramen!

Incredible Spicy beef ramen

By Aria J |

Stopped in during a layover in New York to try the ramen here after seeing good reviews. My boyfriend and I had the Spicy beef ramen. I had mine mild and the spice was just perfect for me. If you are thinking of going here, seriously go now! The restaurant was clean (including the bathrooms) the salads and sides were fresh, and the ramen was incredible. The cashu beef melted in my mouth- totally worth it.

The ramen are out of this world

By Regina S |

Right in the busy shopping district, we were hungry for ramen, and we found this place close to all the stores. A nice and quiet place. The ramen were excellent and so was the sushi. We were very happy to find it.

Good Ramen

By travelingNYfamily |

Tasty Ramen in a lovely setting. We only had Ramen, but the Sushi I could see on other plates looked great.

Very good ramen

By Jørn M |

Had a great dinner at Zen Ramen. Two of us had beef ramen, and it was awesome. Two had very good sushi, and the bento box also was great. All in all a nice place.

Handmade ramen and fresh sushi

By Michael S |

As someone who has lived multiple times in Japan I take great pride in my ability to judge good ramen. This is not good ramen, this is great ramen. You can tell by the consistency and width of the noodles that this is truly had made fresh ramen noodles. i had the tonkatsu ramen with nori and it was amazingly good. The nori was crisped perfectly and the ramen was served with a perfectly boiled egg. The other veggies were sliced perfectly and set into the soup just before serving to ensure their crispness. While the sushi selection is not as broad as at other more well known places all the fish was fresh and beautifully presented.

Neighborhood Sushi and Ramen not far from Times Square

By jaauoc |

Found this place as an alternative to the more touristy restaurants near Times Square. Wanted a simple Japanese lunch before our show and this was an easy walk away from the theater. Plenty to choose between cooked and raw dishes. Ramen was delicious and the sushi was fresh. Service was efficient, although a smile or two wouldn't have hurt. Clean and without pretension. Worth the trip!

Great sushi place

By Kate P |

After what seemed like hours going around in circles in Macy's we stopped by here to get some food and rest our feet and was not disappointed. Both me and my husband are huge sushi lovers along with cocktails and these guys had a happy hour every evening which we took full advantage of. The food and drink was great, good selection, presented very well topped off with excellent service. We left albeit very tipsy with full tummies and feeling refreshed after being on our feet all day. The greatest thing was you can walk straight in for a table too!

Just ok

By loneladytraveler |

Went here for a workday lunch. Uneven service from nice servers. Ramen was fine — nothing special. Probably good for a quick lunch.

Not what I expected

By Neta E |

The place is beautiful, no doubt about it. Sushi was good though small, the beef Ramen was bad and had no taste. It felt like they threw inside too much noodles just to make the bowl look full. Other dishes were nice. Prices are high and unjustified. Service was ok.

Spicy ramen

By Puii P |

Just OKAY ramen.. just OKAY services... though good location in the middle of time square. NOT GOING BACK

Cannot visit NYC without a visit to Zen!!

By CatheAtlanta_GA |

Zen Ramen is the entire reason I stay at a hotel nearby when I visit NYC. Amazing. And yes, sometimes you have to wait a hot minute for a seat but entirely worth it. I typically get takeout and it’s packaged beautifully.

Hidden gem

By Amy2012 |

Great sushi and happy hour drinks. We walked past this small-ish place near Penn station, and were very happy with the results! (Didn't try the ramen.) The service was also very nice. I'm glad we only found this place at the end of our stay in NYC otherwise we'd have been back here every day!

Just all around great

By David L |

The food was absolutely delicious, the drink was a little strong but I'm sure most would love that, and the service, I dont think I've ever had better service, this place has people walking around asking if everything's good, hows your food, taking away use plates, just incredible service and really good food!

A total disappointment

By Nicholas M |

Worst restaurant experience in New York. Was asked to wait 20 minutes and waited 40 to find they had given the table to someone else. The girl on the counter then laughed when she realised the error. Was asked to wait a further 5 minutes, then another 5 minutes and decided the incompetence was likely to reflect in the food. Best to avoid and better found nearby.

BEST RAMEN

By charmedc |

I can not get over how good the food is at this restaurant., Best sushi and oh so fresh and the ramen was to die for. Very very very good.

A great experience

By Gwenn D |

My daughter and I randomly chose to stop here for lunch - we know NOTHING about authentic ramen, and boy were we pleasantly surprised. We told our server to just pick us out something, and he didn't disappoint! We enjoyed the pork ramen and sushi (we were ablet to pick that out ourselves!). The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is because it was pricey for lunch. Other than that - eat here !!!

Yummy Sushi

By Ellaelleee |

after eating copious amounts of deep fried food since getting here this was a great find! Very good sushi & the pork gyoza was amazing! Very reasonably priced also!

Best Ramen I've had

By Kathy Pope Nix |

This is one of those little NYC gems. The service was great, the decor clean modern Asian. You can sit at the sushi bar or a table. I had the Seafood Ramen and it was incredible- better, it's crave worthy.

Delicious Ramen in NYC

By A1965lisam |

Small ramen and sushi restaurant on 36th st. Stopped in and were seated immediately. Wait staff was prompt and thorough. Ramen was excellent. Broth rich and flavorful.

Good food, great service!

By Peter C |

Located on 36th Street, bt 6 & 7th Ave. Went for early dinner at 4:30pm Friday (pre- theater) ... no waiting/lines ... had Tonkotsu Shoyu (very tasty and not too salty; you get 4 types of noodle to choose from; I chose the thick ramen noodle), Seafood Tomyum Rice noodle soup (delicious), had a couple of appetizers (that's not on the website menu (Purple Sweet Potato tempura; eel roll) bc it's Happy Hour menu 4-7pm) which was also very good. Did not have "real" sushi this time. Price was decent for the quality of food & location. Would go back again.

perfect for ramen and sushi lovers

By Benedetta N |

This place is a hidden gem! The sushi was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. I also tried the beef ramen, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. lily in particular was very professional and carinh. ambiance is cozy and modern, perfect for a relaxed dinner. Highly recommended for sushi and ramen lovers—you won’t be disappointed!

Good Ramen With A Lot Of Options

By LeeTrotman |

Ramen comes with a lot of options, so you can essentially custom make your own. Pork slices are thicker than average, which creates a heavier taste in beef broth. Deep fried chicken wings were average, and service was prompt. Recommend for ramen lovers.

Tasty food. Recommended

By cgomide |

Looked through the window and almost didn’t go in, but decide to based the reviews. Most of the tables are on the second floor and the food was great. Both the roll and ramen were very good.

Small Place But Functional

By Josh P |

Tried a ramen dish along with a bento box. They were good and filling. Service was friendly and very attentive. Beat the rush hour. The place got really busy afterwards. Looks like a well-established spot with the locals.

it was really good food.

By JasmineGardenBali |

The food is good, I'm not surprise on how small the restaurant is , its NY ........ the food is good, I read on someone review to ask the chilli paste to make it spicier , and I did that , it was really good idea to do that ...... even thou a half tsp for 1 $ it still worth it for me.......

PERFECT!!!

By alessia n |

The food was amazing! Incredible quality of Sushi and Ramen too! the staff was so nice and kind, especially Lily that helped us with the choice of the dishes! I really recommend this place!!

Delicious and Delightful

By Mike T |

Called ahead and asked if we’d be seated in 10 minutes, and as soon we arrived we were greeted with our table. Food and service was spectacular!!!

Great find in the city

By Chia Li C |

Excellent trio tartar which is hard to find anywhere in the US. The spicy vegetables Ramen and spicy seafood Ramen are both excellent. The broth is great. The cozy place is packed with gen z or yuppies. The service is fast. We sat at the sushi bar area. The popular item is the poke.

Great Ramen and fair price

By Sean C |

Truly excellent tonkatsu Ramen at a very fair price in Midtown Manhattan. If you’re choosing between this one, and Ichibon, choose this one. Ask for Lili.

Stressig

By Johanna |

Our visit was during happy hour (goes until 8pm). The place was full, the tables are close together, partly separated from each other only by glass panes. The boss was very decisive, she unwrapped the chopsticks and poured soy sauce for everyone - presumably so that the table is free again earlier. The food was OK and really cheap because of the happy hour. But the ambience was stressful (the music was loud) and we were happy to leave the place again.

Small but nice 😃

By Martin G |

Very tasty 🤤 and the selection is large and the staff very friendly. We were there before 7pm and got a table straight away. If you come later, a reservation is recommended.
