First visit to this cute French cafe. Loved the food and the charming decor. Service was professional but warm. Zimmis is small and so the tables are very close together ( great for checking out how delicious your neighbors’s pasta looks). It is very loud, so I wouldn’t chose it for a quiet, romantic dinner, but it’s lots of fun.
Great new French West Village spot
Zimmi's was the second new French West Village restaurant I tried during this visit to NYC, the other was Le Chene. It opened in December last year. It's a petite corner spot with a decent-sized menu which seems to change fairly often and is certainly more upscale than tradition French bistro fare. I ordered 4 dishes: 1) Legumes frits. Fresh veggies fried in a light and crispy tempura-like batter served with an anchovy-based aioli. 2) Soupe de celeri. Chilled celery soup, creamy but non-dairy, topped with creme fraiche. 3) Poulet printanier. Chicken with spring vegetables and lettuce. 4) Brown sugar meringue roulade with cherries and almond. I loved everything. The soup was perhaps the most traditional dish, and my least favourite, but still very good. If I lived nearby and had a large dining-out budget, I'd be here weekly.
