Great addition to UWS

By newshine |

Stopped in on a Rainy Tuesday night. The place was packed & deservedly so. The food is very good - not quite at the level of Ippudo but definitely worth it. We sampled the pork buns, the fried chicken, gyoza, and two kinds of ramen (curry and classic.) I preferred the classic - the curry wasn’t quite spicy enough for me. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive but not overbearing. We’ll be back.

Great ramen

Came for quick lunch. Had the sashito peppers and the special ramen - both were great. Quick service and fair pricing. Surely recommend!

Good experience but not unbelievable

By Giorgio Bologna |

Ramen is good, the pork was delicious but the broth should be improved, portions are big enough. Prices are in line with the average of New York, maybe even a little lower

Fantastic lunch

Found this place accidentally for lunch. What a find! Everything was delicious, flavorful and authentic.

Best Ramen Ever

By Claire Eliza |

The food is so good, service is great, and the atmosphere is cool. I got the curry ramen and it is extremely flavorful and there are options for everyone. It was so good and all of the options are awesome. I couldn't choose!

Good ramen and dumplings!

By Tina D |

Not expensive but tasty! A bowl of ramen is right enough for one person, but they should add more noodles (you could buy extra noodles). Japanese dumplings are also Great! Highly recommend.

Good food, friendly staff

By Robert P |

Good ramen, fried chicken, gyoza dumplings. Relatively small menu but everything I've had has been good. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable, indeed low for food of this quality in New York.

Delicious Ramen joint

Zurutto has been a great addition to the neighborhood and we go often for their delicious Ramen. Other items on the menu include little appetizers, such as edamame, dumplings, etc. They also have a selection of wines and beers. Service is always friendly and efficient and the space is very pleasant. They don’t take reservations, so try to avoid peak hours. It’s large enough that you likely won’t have to wait long, but I prefer not having to wait. Prices are very reasonable. If you’re looking for a good Ramen in the neighborhood, this is a great choice!

Excellent Ramen!

By Giorgio T |

My girlfriend and I come here regularly in the winter, and have always had a good experience. There is a great selection of ramen - we usually get the basic ramen in chicken broth or the one with garlic oil - and it's always very tasty: perfect for a cold winter night! The menu also offers a variety of good appetizers, like edamame and gyoza (similar to pan-fried dumplings). The decor is cozy and welcoming, with an open kitchen and dark wood paneling. The dining room is not noisy, so it's conducive to good conversation. The service is fast and friendly. I definitely recommend it!

Terrific NY Noodles

By James S |

Very tasty ramen & noodles café. Limited menu but their dishes are expertly prepared. Usual alternatives including shrimp, chicken, meat. Strongly recommend for 1st timers or for fans of this cuisine.

Tasty noodles!

By Rcr883 |

Went with others for lunch and was very impressed. We started with some dumplings that were great. We each ordered different bowls, the curry was excellent! Very flavorful but not too hot. This is the best ramen I have had. One of the others had the Deluxe and raved about it. Reasonable price. If you are in the area, this is a great stop with super food, and warm service.

The broth was amazing

By Nicholas R |

After seeing the reviews I decided I just had to try it. The service to so amazing! And the food was even better. The pork buns were to die for! And the mochi ice cream will make you smack somebody lol

Amazing ramen!

We just loved the place, the service and the food. The ramen was delicious, very tasty and beautifully presented. We will definitely come back in our next visit to NY!

Delicious Ramen!

By david p |

Haven't had ramen in a while so I decided to pop in here since it looked pretty busy inside. I ordered the ramen deluxe and it was amazing. It had shashu pork black garlic oil boiled egg scallion and of course ramen. The ramen dishes are reasonably priced and very filling. The ambiance was quaint and the service was great. They even let me charge my phone behind the counter. I highly recommend and will definitely go back.

Very good!

Recently, my wife and went on a trip to Japan. Now we compare all the ramen places to Tokyo. Zurutto was very good in comparison. The pork is excellent. The noodles were good, but I wish they were a little thicker and a little softer. The staff is excellent, 3 girls running the place without delays and they are very attentive and friendly. So far, best in the uws area.

Simply delicious ramen

By Mary Anne E |

We were yearning for a good ramen and checked what was available on the Upper West Side and discovered we were close to this small, modest restaurant. We got one of the few remaining tables at lunchtime and so enjoyed our ramens! We will make this a must visit next time we're in the city. Loved the clean, delicious food!

Hidden gem

By Roberta H |

We stumbled across Zarrotto looking for Sunday lunch. Simple Japanese wooden atmosphere. It was too warm out for us to try the ramen. We shared the shashito peppers which were good, and the sliced cucumber I a soy based sauce that was delightfully refreshing. The gyoza were great...the best I’ve ever had. The pork, egg, rice dish was delicious. Very good value Can’t wait to return for the ramen

Very good...just not perfect

By Leo M |

We were in the area and noticed that there was a Ramen shop on 72nd St with good reviews. So we dropped in for lunch...and were quite happy we did. The best dishes we had were the Ramen - my son and I had the deluxe and Tao Tao. The Chashu Pork and seasoned egg were on point but the broth was merely very good and not quite up to the standards of the 'temples' to Ramen sprinkled through Manhattan. My wife had the curry ramen which was a mistake. Sadly, they were out of Karaage. My wife ordered the pork gyoza which again was very good but not great. And I ordered the Takoyaki which was, unfortunately, the worst I've ever had. Admittedly, it's not something I order often, and usually at places where you can see them making it, but still...there it is. They had a great selection of Japanese drinks, my son and wife had a Mango Cream Soda and a Yuzu soda which they liked very much. I tasted both - the Mango Cream soda was indeed a cross between that artificial mango flavor and a NYC cream soda. And the Yuzu soda was delightful. Service was wonderful and we were happy to sit outside on a sunny day.

Over the top Ramen

By Richard_x5173 |

Zurutto is a small neighborhood noodle restaurant. The service is quick and helpful. The menu has 12 to 15 choices, and it would be worth trying them all.

A bit expensive but worth the price

By Rébecca G |

It was excellent. Great service, loved the atmosphere. The ramen are super tasty (the Deluxe one is delicious and SUPER filling).

yum!

By KatieG958 |

Stumbled upon Zurutto while looking for a different restaurant and was so glad we did – it will be on our to-go list from now on! Not a large menu to choose from, but who needs it when you have ramen!

Yummy!

By Rae W |

We walked into a relaxed atmosphere of Broadway music (Beauty and the Beast) and a server's pleasant smile. She immediately brought water in chilled jelly jars and left a whole bottle of water on the table. I wondered if the food here was spicy. I ordered my standard miso ramen and gyoza. The gyoza came first and was tasty, but they stuck together. I had to use my chopsticks to take them apart. The ramen's miso sauce was thicker than I was used to but flavorful. Two huge pieces of pork, half an egg, pieces of cabbage, and a little corn completed my bowl of delicious ramen. My husband ordered a salad, and apparently it was good because he ate every last bit! When we were done, the server cleared the table very quickly. Having just spent three weeks in Europe, I had forgotten this American tradition of good service, which allows us to enjoy our space.

Yummy Ramen

By Peggy P |

The ramen here is so good. Love all the options! Also had the shishito peppers(yum), the pork buns (yummier), and the fries with masago mayo (yummo). Cool setting, clean, and great service.

Wow!

By billyboy18 |

The real deal. Probably the best ramen I have ever eaten. A nice looking storefront on a non descript 72 st strip. Walked over to the bar and ordered delicious spicy pork buns. Oozing and delicious. Then the star the ramen bowl. Nice and spicy with fantastic al dente noodles. Pieces of non fatty pork and other spices. Absolutely delicious—the broth was creamy and tasty. 25 bucks including tip. Been around two years they said. I will be back.

Yummy Ramen - Nice Staff

By Caizhou |

This restaurant was very nice. Fast and friendly service. I ordered vegetarian ramen with a side of spicy oil - it was delicious. One of my family ordered the ramen (I forgot the name - it was located as the top right ramen) and she was not very fond of it. She said it was too oily; however, it did have garlic oil in it but the family consensus was that it wasn’t the best. The kimchi and the edamame was excellent though. The matcha green tea ice cream was also good and the scope size was generous. Overall, I’d recommend this restaurant to families, couples, or even as a quick meal for an individual.

Amazing

By OrrMcc |

Fast and courteous service. Good selection of beers, draft Japanese beers and a bottled Japanese IPA. Ramen is off the chart with flavors. I got the Miso, Wife got the Black garlic sauce.

Good Ramen

By safpsy |

Good solid ramen, fast, relaxed, and reasonably priced. The Karaage and Edamame make nice appetizers.

Cold Ramen and RUDE STAFF.

By David B |

Ramen was Cold. Just awful. And it gets worse: Was there with an infant and I asked to move two tables down from the open door, in December--which was probably why ramen was cold. The waitress waved her hand in my face dismissively and said it was against "policy". I asked to see the policy. Manager said it is not written down. Manager was incredibly rude. waitress flipped me off as we were leaving. Photo posted on web.

Small plates!

By Lauren620 |

We ordered several small plates plus a salad to share. And saki. The fried octopus rolls stood out as excellent, the salad was fresh and plentiful, but almost entirely spinach, which was a bit disappointing. Not too noisy, and service was excellent. I’d go back to try other small plates and skip the salad.

Conveniently located

By Dr. Rodriguez |

I enjoyed eating the appetizers at Zurutto Ramen and Gyoza Bar. Each one of the appetizers have a splendid flavor.

Lunch

By kitt A |

It was one of those unexpected finds. The gyoza had a really soft skin, although it could be a tad less oily. Overall, the skin was soft, the meat had flavour. The ramen was outstanding; al dente and in some quarters it would be ‘Q’ tasting. We enjoyed the curry flavoured ramen. If one is not into bamboo shoots, ask for them to be omitted.

Super Ramen!

By schui-shooter |

The food is fantastic. Best Ramen ever. Service good be a bit better. But what coubts is the quality of the ramen. If they manage to improve the service it would be a 5+

Great ramen!

By JupiterKLP |

Fabulous little ramen place about a block and a half from Central Park. Husband and I both had the miso ramen, which was packed with flavor. Would definitely return.

Flavorful, reasonably priced ramen steps from Central Park

By DCTravels |

The simply decorated restaurant is sleek and welcoming. We ordered the Zurutto Deluxe ramen, which was rich and deeply flavorful. Don't miss the black garlic, but add sparingly. We also had the curry don with karaage. The chicken was perfectly cooked -- crispy without being dry. The curry sauce is delicious, but next time I'll try another version of ramen where they clearly excel. Lunch for two was about $35.

As good as it gets

By K T Dume |

If you've read my reviews, you know that I am from the Netherlands originally, spend a lot of time in Japan, and also in Nashville. My time in Japan is for business and with friends. I spend a lot of it eating Japanese food, as it becomes more and more prevalent in the US and more and more bad or so-so "Japanese food" places crop up. So when I passed this unassuming storefront a few weeks ago, I paid little attention. From the window, it looked a little dark. There weren't many people inside. No menu in the window. Pass. This afternoon, trying to decide where to eat with a friend, I passed t again - the glass doors were open, there were menus to peruse just beyond the doorstep, and we were so intrigued by the phrase "Ramen and gyoza bar" that we resolved to stop in. I rarely give five stars, because for me, a five star meal means I would eat there at least weekly if I could. Perhaps even daily. It means the best I've had of at least one dish. It means surprisingly good, memorable, and not something I'd expect to find duplicated elsewhere. Am I glad we took a chance! We began with edamame, just warm enough, not over-cooked, not too salty. Deceptively average. Then, an order of the "handmade" gyoza. My eyebrow actually arched in surprise at this one, because I'd never seen that advertised. There are places in Japan that still make their own gyoza, but fewer and fewer. In the US, this was my first. I confess, I have never had gyoza this good. Very slightly charred on the outside (which gave it a lovely kick), the filling was light on the tongue and heavy with flavor. There were scallions in it, very fresh, and something crunchy (I don't know what). The gyoza sauce, which in the wrong hands can be a vinegar-y disaster, was just warm enough to bring out all its flavor. In fact, the gyoza were so good that we ordered a second helping. Takoyaki (octopus ball) seems to be gaining favor in America, so we tried that next. Shaved bonito covered the small savory balls. We bit into them and discovered a filling that made one of my lunch partners gasp with joy. Quite often ,takoyaki are loaded down with so much sweet sauce, it becomes impossible to enjoy the inside. Not so here; there was just enough sauce to please the palate, but not enough to interfere with the rest. Size matters here - too big, and they're difficult to eat without splashing. Too small, and you don't get the entire flavor. Half of one of these was a perfect mouthful. The cucumber with sesame seeds was just that, beautifully sliced bite-sized pieces of mini-cucumber sprinkled with sesame seeds and a bit of soy sauce. Fresh, crunchy, a lovely between-course refresher. The pork buns were delicious, with a slightly spicy sauce that brought out the flavor of the dough without obscuring the char siu. I have an absurd confession to make now. Instead of ordering ramen, we decided we'd liked the gyoza so much that we'd all have second helpings, along with the tofu salad. The salad did not disappoint; unusually good. And the gyoza? Well, I've said my piece. A few other notes: - We did see a lot of ramen bowls go by, and they looked splendid. - We loved that the ramen is in chicken stock. One of us was allergic to shellfish, another to eggs, so having chicken stock and vegetarian offerings available will be a big plus on our next visit (which will be as soon as possible). - Seating, very basic, is surprisingly comfortable. The wait staff consisted of one young woman, who was marvelously unhurried while keeping an eye on everything. *** All the websites I checked say the hours are 4:30 to 11:00 pm, but we ate lunch at about 12:45. So I would call to check. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I'm going back tonight!

The temperature of zarutto deluxe ramen was lukewarm. Would probably not come back overall 5/10. Appetizers where phenomenal.

Great soup and burger

By travel_the_world_melissa |

I came here and was surprised how many people were here during the early part of the week but realized why after I tried their soup. DELICIOUS abs the burger is amazing and scrumptious too! Great place for warm confort food. I will definitely be back

Good ramen, good to have it in the hood

By Peter B |

Of about four ramen places around that I visited in the last couple of weeks, this stands out - because the ramen is interesting and tasty. The menu is short and simple, but everything I tried was always a bit different (in a very good way) from your regular stuff at all these other (quite frequent lately) places. Nicely spiced sesame cucumber, or kimchi, that has sweetness in addition to the usual zing. No broth truffle Dan Dan Ramen was just lovely, with good level of spice, not dangerous, just right. Even your most basic ramen comes really alive with an addition of onion bits and black garlic sauce. Yummy. Room is a bit noisy and as current trends dictate, dark. No frills service. You'll get exactly what's needed - very good simple meal in no time. Recommended.

Very tasty

By RashidMarwat |

A group of friends decided to have dinner here after cheering our friend who finished the TCS NYC marathon. Everybody was very happy with their menu choices. Would definitely recommend this place , especially on a cold winter night. One thing that left us puzzled was their refusal to accept a take out order of gyoza while on the other hand allowing us a 'to go' container for one of our leftover dishes.

Amazing ramen and beer

By jerasov |

The ramen was just amazing. Best I had in New York. They also have a great selection of Japanese draft beer and it's served nice and cold. They also have a special on happy hour that you get fried chicken with the purchase of beer. The chicken is also VERY tasty. Service was good but not great. I still give it an excellent rating because the quality of the food can overcome the lack of friendliness. The gyozas were pretty god as well.

Highly satisfied

By Fukuyan |

As a Japanese based in an Eastern European country, I always crave for a bowl of ramen. This restaurant met my high expectation. Enjoyed and satisfied with what was served. Highly recommended for those who miss authentic Japanese ramen noodles.

Delicious and simple - neighborhood fave!

By Diva_Fashionista5 |

This is our family’s go-to for ramen! We love the miso ramen, Kirage, and pork buns. They don’t take reservations so go earlier or you might have to wait 15-20 mins. The miso ramen is consistently good - nothing super fancy which we prefer. Simple, delicious ramen and not a huge long menu of items - just good solid ramen noodles!! And pricing is spot on - not pricey like some of the other bigger name places. This is our neighborhood ramen gem!!

Great lunch treat!

By Alastair M |

My son and I stopped here for lunch, and loved it. Tempting choice of ramen noodle dishes ("wet" and "dry"), though we ended up ordering four actually not-so-small dishes at $7 to $8 each, and had fun getting full on gyoza dumplings, spicy tuna "tacos" and fried octopus balls. Very friendly service, too!
