I. Preface

This is a travelogue published in August 2017. Due to changes in the China-TravelNote module, the original travelogue can no longer be displayed properly. According to the advice of China-TravelNote's IT department, the original travelogue can only be "moved" from my account and republished in order for it to be displayed properly. I decided to keep the text-based recording method for sharing.

The original travelogue begins below…

Colorful Yunnan lives up to its name. Including this trip, I have set foot on this vast and beautiful land four times. There's always that pure land in my heart, filled with dreams, ready to set off...

My first trip was in February 2012, passing through Kunming, Lijiang, and Shangri-La. I flew from Shanghai to Kunming, where I had "Qiao Xiang Yuan" (a type of cross-bridge rice noodle) for lunch. Afterward, I took a Masha (a type of machine) and toured the Kunming Zoo. I was particularly impressed by a strikingly plump duck and the hundreds of peacocks in the peacock garden. My train took a little after 11 PM, and I arrived at Lijiang Railway Station a little after 7 AM the next morning. My first glimpse of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain... It was my first time visiting Dayan Ancient Town and Shuhe River, following the canal upstream to the city and downstream to the exit. I was deeply impressed by the thriving aquatic plants in the canal, nurtured by the meltwater from Jade Dragon Snow Mountain's glaciers. We went to Lashi Lake and the Ancient Tea Horse Road, riding up and down the mountain for over three hours. The porter chose an older horse for me and a stronger one for my husband. (The older horse carrying me nearly fell off the bank, so it's always better to choose a stronger horse when doing this. Older horses, while familiar with the route, are not up to the task.) There was a gurgling spring halfway up the mountain, and Seven Fairies Lake at the top—a stroke of genius. That first trip, I magically reached my dream destination—Shangri-La. We also visited Tiger Leaping Gorge and the First Bend of the Yangtze River, and reached Pudacuo for the first time, traversing the frozen Shudu Lake... After that trip, I couldn't stop.

The second trip was in November 2014, passing through Lijiang and Lugu Lake. The journey from Lijiang to Lugu Lake took eight hours one way, along a winding, mountainous road. The moment you first laid eyes on the lake, all the fatigue of the journey vanished, and the view was one of the most beautiful in the world. The air was clear, the waters of the Daughter Kingdom were pure, and the sound of the ripples on the surface was also crystal clear. We stayed in the second-floor, 270-degree room at the Other Shore Inn on the Rige Peninsula, where we watched the sunrise and the morning light parade around the lake. We had lunch at a Mosuo family, where women are the heads of the household, and experienced their pickled pork belly. My third trip to Lijiang was in June 2016, purely for summer vacation. This time, it was a purely leisure trip, staying in an inn for eight consecutive days and visiting Blue Moon Valley and the nearby lavender farm. The most unreliable thing about Lijiang Old Town is the weather forecast and GPRS. There are so many winding, crisscrossing paths that even the navigation system might seem like there's no way out, but there's actually a tiny path barely wide enough for one person.

My fourth trip, in July 2017, focused on the Shangri-La to Meili Snow Mountain route, with the same crew. My goal was to take my parents to see Shangri-La—the sun and moon in my heart—and to see Meili Snow Mountain and Kawagebo. Those with a sense of destiny will surely get to see "Grandpa." This trip spanned two winters and two summers, a double winter and summer. In these days of being completely consumed by work, it's especially easy to fall asleep in spring, tired in summer, rest in autumn, and hibernate in winter. So, I decided to come to Yunnan, a land of rich natural beauty. Since my parents were still in good health, after much deliberation, I decided to forgo any plans to visit Switzerland or France. I embarked on this journey with a sincere heart.

Let’s start by watching a short video:

III. Expenses

1.Air tickets + hotel: The total order amount is about 22,000 (booked by China-TravelNote)

Air tickets: Shanghai→Diqing (Shangri-La) 1770*4=7080 (adult), 1250*1=1250 (child)

2) Meili Snow Mountain (Feilaisi Temple) → Shangri-La 300 (return), 9:45~13:15, three and a half hours.

3) Shangri-La → Lijiang Ancient Town Beimenpo Police Station near 400, 13:45~18:52, could have arrived early, the normal journey is just over 4 hours, mainly due to a rear-end collision with other cars on the way, a road construction, and endless traffic jams after entering the city.

3. Meals: About 4,000 (excluding breakfast included in the inn or hotel, including afternoon tea, fruit, etc.)

4. Other + Shopping: About 4,000 (I bought a fancy floor-standing cowhide vase, and various small gifts for friends and family after returning to Shanghai)

5. Total: About 32,000 (about 6,400 per person)

IV. Precautions

Special precautions for daily life in the plateau (do not be careless). For other items you need to bring, just bring a down jacket and an umbrella. I will not list them in detail here, you can find them with a simple search on the Internet. I think the following points are the most important ones, and those who travel to the plateau must read them carefully.

1. Common symptoms of altitude sickness: Headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, visual impairment, frequent dreams, tinnitus, and dizziness.

2. Rest and recuperate on your first day in the plateau. Upon arrival, everyone will experience varying degrees of shortness of breath, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms generally improve or disappear after 2-4 days. If you arrive by plane, symptoms of altitude sickness typically develop within 12-14 hours. Therefore, avoid strenuous exercise upon arrival and rest in bed immediately. Otherwise, once you feel the effects, you'll need more time to acclimate.

3. Preventing and Relieving Altitude Sickness: Pack anti-altitude sickness medication, beef jerky, and dark chocolate in your travel backpack so you can take them if you experience altitude sickness. Avoid overeating to avoid overloading your digestive system. Avoid alcohol and smoking, and keep warm. Don't start using oxygen right away; try to acclimate yourself to it. Otherwise, you might become dependent on it permanently at the plateau.

4. If you experience severe altitude sickness, it's recommended to seek oxygen therapy at a nearby clinic or hospital. If you catch a cold, be sure to get treatment before continuing your journey. Never try to resist it to prevent brain or lung edema. Colds are often a major cause of acute high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), which is difficult to recover from in an oxygen-deprived environment.

5. Be careful when traveling in July. July is the local rainy season, so bring a folding umbrella. The temperature difference between morning and evening is significant, so bring a thick coat, sunglasses, a sun hat, and plenty of water. Also, bring medication for altitude sickness, motion sickness patches, Tiger Balm, mosquito repellent, and diarrhea medication. Buy a local oxygen tank upon arrival. Also, because the plateau is dry, bring a comprehensive travel skincare kit, including a face mask, eye mask, and daily facial masks. Hydrate your face regularly, use sunscreen, and be prepared for a life of inner peace and inner hell.

6. In general, there are 4 factors that affect altitude sickness:

①Altitude:Given a set of reported data, the incidence of altitude sickness below 3500 meters is 37%~51%; between 3600-5000 meters, the incidence of altitude sickness is 50%;

Method of entry:The speed and amplitude of ascent to high altitude, for example, taking a train will cause relatively weaker altitude sickness than taking a plane;

Region and season:The chance of getting altitude sickness is higher in winter than in other seasons, because the temperature drops in winter, the atmospheric pressure also drops, and the oxygen content further decreases.

Individual Quality: This is primarily related to individual differences in hematocrit, oxygen demand, and oxygen consumption. A person's mental state is also crucial, and excessive psychological stress should be avoided. Therefore, don't be too complacent and assume you'll be fine. Be sure to take preventative measures, avoid excessive stress, and maintain a positive and relaxed attitude.

VII. Daily Itinerary

DAY 1: Shanghai → Diqing (Shangri-La). Due to a thunderstorm in Shangri-La that day, our original flight was canceled. We stopped in Kunming and stayed overnight, arriving in Shangri-La the next day.

Itinerary:

We departed at 2:00 PM. Due to our busy work schedule, we weren't quite in the mood for travel when we set off. The drive to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport was bumpy, but my daughter soon fell asleep. Once we arrived at the airport, check-in, baggage handling, and security went smoothly. It wasn't until after boarding that we learned of the flight delay. To appease the passengers, Muhang Airlines offered a meal: chicken rice noodles and beef noodles. I chose the chicken rice dish (pictured below):

... In the evening, Mukden Airlines arranged for me to stay in a hotel about 35 minutes from the airport. It was almost 12:00 AM when I checked in. The hotel was quite clean.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY2: Diqing (Shangri-La). I actually took the delayed Mukden Airlines flight from Kunming to Diqing (Shangri-La) and arrived early in the morning.

Transportation:

Flight information: China Eastern Airlines (Kunming-Shangri-La)/08:10-09:10/Kunming Changshui Airport-Shangri-La Airport (3287.9 meters above sea level)

Charter car: The inn provides airport pick-up service (Tibetan driver is neat and honest)

Itinerary:

I was so busy preparing my flight delay insurance that I finally got to bed at 2:30 AM (this was because I was preparing the materials for my flight delay insurance, which is explained in detail in the [Table of Contents - Part 8] of this travelogue). I didn't expect Mu Xing to be so efficient this time. I was woken up by the hotel at 4:45 AM to go to the airport. After rushing, Mu Xing finally won. My delayed flight took off at 8:10 AM and arrived at Diqing Shangri-La Airport an hour later.

I left the airport apron, walked through the aisle, and reached the carousel to pick up my luggage. I was out of the airport in 15 minutes (I put on a thick jacket before leaving). One thing to note: the luggage tags at Shangri-La Airport are very strict. You must have your luggage tags to leave the airport. Thumbs up!

Look! This is the Tibetan architectural style of Diqing Shangri-La Airport. Shangri-La - the sun and moon in our hearts, here we come!

Soon after, Larong, the inn's special Tibetan driver, came to pick us up at the airport. He was a very nice Tibetan guy (in the next few days of the itinerary, we would book Larong and his cousin's cars, both of which were legal and qualified to operate cars). The airport is very close to the ancient city, less than 15 minutes. Walking along the way, I recalled the scene when I first came here 5 years ago (Dukezong had not yet experienced the fire at that time). The photos I took 5 years ago are as follows:

Old and mottled rammed earth wall

src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Dukezong Ancient City src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Dukezong Ancient City Dukezong Ancient Town src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Dukezong Ancient Town src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Dukezong Ancient Town After arriving at the inn, we took a brief stroll. The inn is elegantly Tibetan-style, with a sun-drenched atmosphere. This inn was rebuilt and revived by the proprietress, Xiaolong, after the Shangri-La fire. Although the inn is small, it's neatly maintained. The bedding in the room smells clean and air-dried. src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Shangri-La

Firewood in the Inn

The proprietress Xiaolong immediately prepared pork rib noodles for Nannan. Her family also made and ate fresh food, so she was very relieved. The place where Nannan is in the picture below is the lobby of the inn. The whole feeling is very warm and humane. src="/travelogue/China/Yunnan/4107007/13.webp">Shangri-La

The efficient proprietress, Xiaolong, personally cooked for us. After a tiring flight, we desperately needed this light and nutritious brunch. The price was around 140 yuan (shredded pork and zucchini, pork ribs and carrot soup, stir-fried pork with chives, tomato and egg, and chive and wood ear mushroom). In the hotel lobby, where we rested and warmed ourselves, I even found a mini watermelon (not for eating, I call it a "little zombie melon"). After lunch, I slept until 3 o'clock (to relieve the slight altitude sickness), and set off for Napahai (called Napahai in the rainy season), which is about 6 kilometers away from the ancient city.

Napahai: A seasonal lake on the plateau. Frequent rains in late summer and early autumn, combined with the influx of water from Qinglongtan, the Naqu River, and the Wangqu River, form a vast lake, with its surface area reaching over a thousand hectares at its peak.

Yila Grassland: In winter and spring, Napahai shrinks, transforming into the vast swampy meadow of Yila Grassland, Yunnan's largest spring pasture.

In the rainy season, this is Napahai, and in the dry season, it becomes Yila Grassland, facing the towering Shika Snow Mountain.

Larong, a young Tibetan man, drove us around Napahai for about 40 kilometers (about 150 meters) (driving and explaining), stopping for photos for about two hours. Depending on the needs, if you want to go horseback riding in Napahai, you need to pay an additional 60 yuan per person to the local horse breeder, not the driver.

Look! The scenery is picturesque, with soft grass and vivid clouds. Without the overlapping clouds, there would be no colorful scenery: grass, horses, sheep, mother pigs and piglets...

Suddenly it started to rain, and I quickly carried my daughter back to the car to take shelter.

The weather will be fine again soon, so don't worry about the weather forecast you see here, as the actual situation will not match the forecast.

A short video:

Additional information: We had originally planned to go to Pudacuo National Forest Park, but due to flight issues and my parents’ health reasons, we didn’t make it. However, I have made a guide before, which I would like to share with you as a reference. I hope it will be helpful.

Transportation: There are three options for your reference.

1) Bus from the Long-Distance Bus Station to Pudacuo: There are four buses daily, departing at 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, and 10:00. Return tickets can be purchased on board. The first return bus leaves at 14:30, and the last at 16:00.

2) Bus from the North Gate of Dukezong Ancient Town to Pudacuo: If you are staying in Shangri-La Old Town, there is a dedicated bus to Pudacuo at No. 12, North Gate Street. The Shangri-La Dukezong Ancient Town Diqing Tourist Service Center operates four buses to Pudacuo daily, priced at 30 yuan per round trip. (Note: The fourth bus only runs when there are many tourists.) The total distance from Dukezong Ancient Town to Pudacuo is approximately 25.1 kilometers, and the journey takes about half an hour.

①Depart at 8:00 AM; return at 2:00 PM ②Depart at 9:00 AM; return at 3:00 PM

③Depart at 10:00 AM; return at 4:00 PM ④Depart at 11:00 AM; return at 5:00 PM

3) Charter a car: Alternatively, you can charter a car directly, as it is relatively close and only takes about 30 minutes. Negotiate the price with the driver in advance.

Itinerary:

1) Prepare lunch for the trip to Pudacuo. Lunch at the scenic spot is more expensive and not very tasty, so you can bring your own food.

2) Upon arrival at the scenic area, purchase an oxygen tank in the lobby (less than 100 RMB).

3) The all-inclusive ticket is 258 RMB (includes a 138 RMB entrance fee and a 120 RMB bus ticket).

4) Take the scenic area's eco-friendly sightseeing bus from the entrance. It takes about 20 minutes to reach your first stop: ① Shudu Lake. Alternatively, take a boat for 50 RMB per person, which takes 10 minutes to the other side. Alternatively, walk for an hour, then take a bus to the other side to the next attraction: ② Militang Subalpine Pasture (there are many cattle and horses below, but you can't get off. The scenic area bus will wait for 10 minutes on the roadside for you to take photos). Next is ③ Bita Lake (larger than Shudu Lake, a 1.5-hour walk and a 15-minute boat ride, but still costs 50 RMB per person). At the end of the hike, you'll exit the scenic area, where a meadow of blossoms exudes a peaceful beauty. 5) If traveling with children, we recommend taking the bus for the first two scenic spots and only walking the final 4.1 kilometers of the Bitahai plank road to avoid exhaustion. Bitahai is the final stop on the eco-friendly bus route and the highlight of the trip. Bitahai means "a lake where oak trees form a carpet" in Tibetan, and the oak trees along the lakeshore resemble a dense green carpet. Azaleas grow abundantly among the oak trees. Every year in May and June, when the flowers bloom, the azalea petals fall into the water. Fish, fed by the slightly toxic petals, float to the surface, resulting in the famous Bitahai scene: "Intoxicated Fish."

6) Route: Shudu Lake → Militang Subalpine Pasture → Bitahai

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY3: Diqing (Shangri-La) → Deqin (Meili Snow Mountain)

Transportation: (We chose a chartered bus with operating qualifications because we took into consideration the elderly and children in our group. The following bus station information is for your reference)

1) Shangri-La Bus Station:

2)Chartered car:Larong's cousin's car (700 one-way). The advantages are: you can stop to rest or take photos in permitted places; it is also more convenient for the whole family to be together, and it won't be too noisy.

Itinerary:

At 9:45, we chartered a car to Feilai Temple. The driver was Larong's cousin, a Tibetan. It was very simple and priced at 700 to Deqin (Feilai Temple).

Route: ① Shangri-La (3400m above sea level) → ② Yila Grassland, Napa Lake → ③ Benzilan → ④ Jinsha River Bay (2100m above sea level) → ⑤ Dongzhulin Temple → ⑥ Pass Baima Snow Mountain Tunnel No. 3 (3900m long) and Tunnel No. 1 (5000m long), but did not go through Baima Snow Mountain Pass (4292m above sea level) → ⑦ County Town → ⑧ Feilai Temple (Thirteen Welcoming Towers Observation Deck, 3400m above sea level), overlooking Meili Snow Mountain (6740m above sea level, with the highest peak "Kawabog" at 6740m above sea level)

Driving on National Highway 214 with a bird's eye view of Napa Lake

Passing the Jinsha River's Big Bend, I wasn't very interested and didn't go in, so I took a photo of the landmark stone outside.

After passing the Jinsha River's Ω Big Bend, passing Dongzhulin Temple

After passing Dongzhulin Temple, Niuniu was blocking the middle of National Highway 214, so my cousin Larong could only drive slowly and go around it.

Baima Snow Mountain Tunnel No. 3 (3900m long) and Tunnel No. 1 (5000m long). Since we had the tunnels, we didn't go to the Baima Snow Mountain Pass (4292m above sea level). After passing through Baima Snow Mountain Tunnel No. 1 and driving for 15 minutes, we finally caught our first glimpse of Meili Snow Mountain and Mount Kawagebo. Revered as "Grandfather," it's the patron saint of Tibetans. It's the foremost of Tibet's eight sacred mountains and recognized as the world's most beautiful. It's said that if you can see Mount Meili and Mount Kawagebo when it first appears, you're incredibly lucky! Only by seeing it in person can you truly experience the awe-inspiring power of Mount Meili. A brief introduction to Kawagebo: Kawagebo is the highest peak in Yunnan Province and is considered one of the four sacred mountains of Tibetan Buddhism, along with Kawagebo, Mount Kailash, Mount Amaniqen, and Gaduo Jowo in Yushu. It is one of the key attractions of the Three Parallel Rivers World Heritage Site. It winds northward, stretching through 13 peaks, each one shimmering and magnificent. The circumambulation of the mountain is a pilgrimage around the sacred mountain. Among ethnic minorities who believe in Tibetan Buddhism, circumambulating Kawagebo once in a lifetime is essential to avoid suffering in the netherworld during reincarnation. Even if one dies during the circumambulation, it is considered a blessing to be reborn, and their soul may even reach the Pure Land. We arrived at the hotel at 1:35 PM, a little under four hours' drive. The room was clean. After a few minor adjustments, we had lunch at a nearby restaurant for about 200 yuan. We rested in the afternoon at the hotel, which offers excellent lighting and a great view, facing Feilai Temple and directly overlooking Mount Kawagebo. The hotel is located along National Highway 214, heading north towards Tibet. In the afternoon, I enjoyed the view from the balcony of my fourth-floor room. Each room comes with a telescope and a humidifier. I brewed a pot of tea, cracked some sunflower seeds, and sucked on a milk tablet while waiting to see Mount Kawagebo from the balcony. The Meili Snow Mountain played hide-and-seek all afternoon. Although obscured by the fierce clouds, its majestic presence remained undimmed.

Have a cup of coffee in the lobby downstairs. The hotel provides guests with unlimited free small-grain coffee (the front desk will ask you whether you want milk or not, this should be communicated in advance. The cake in the picture is charged separately). In the evening, I watched a documentary about Kawagebo. Although humans have conquered the world's highest Mount Everest and all peaks above 8,000 meters, due to the complex terrain and unpredictable climate of Kawagebo Peak, it is still a "virgin peak" that no one has successfully climbed to the summit. From 1902 to 1996, British, American, Japanese and medium climbers climbed the snow-capped mountains but failed to reach the summit. As early as 1902, the British sent a mountaineering expedition to the Goddess Peak for the first time, but it ended in failure. Later, four mountaineering teams from the United States, Japan, and China-Japan jointly climbed the sacred mountain four times on a large scale, but none of them succeeded. In January 1991, all 17 Sino-Japanese joint mountaineering team members died at the foot of Kagebo Peak. Now their bodies and belongings have been claimed, but their souls will always be buried deep in the snow-capped mountains. These climbers and explorers have made Meili Snow Mountain famous in the world, adding even more mystery. In fact, the Tibetans here do not want anyone to climb this sacred mountain that belongs only to them. The reason is very simple, "If you climb the sacred mountain, you will offend the gods." The sacred mountain is sacred and must be kowtowed and worshipped. It is unconquerable.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY4:Deqin (Meili Snow Mountain)

Itinerary:

Get up at 6:37 in the morning to watch the sunrise. Meili Snow Mountain turned on the hide-and-seek mode. Seeing that there was no hope, we went to have breakfast. The hotel provides breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30. The breakfast is as shown below and is standard for each guest.

At 11:27 noon, the clouds began to rise slowly and began to roll playfully. At 13:39 in the afternoon, I had been looking forward to the appearance of Meili Snow Mountain all day, and finally there were some signs in the afternoon, so I went to the roof of the building. The clouds were still strong, the backlight was strong, and the Kawagbo was mighty. The inherent color is strongest where the highlights are deepest because it is not affected by strong light or dark parts.

Dinner was 270 at a Sichuan restaurant on the right side of Meili’s past.

Does this indicate that we will be able to see the golden mountains under the sun tomorrow? A complete rainbow cuts across the sky at an altitude of 3,500 meters.

Kawagbo finally showed its tranquility at night and saw the majesty of Meili Snow Mountain. The previous set of pictures shows Meili Snow Mountain from morning to night, and finally the peaceful Kawagebo, right there.

Clouds enveloped Kawagebo, and then the clouds, fog, and mountain air climbed up together, overwhelming them.

The glow behind Kawagbo

The clear outline of Kawagbo

DAY5:Deqin (Meili Snow Mountain) → Diqing (Shangri-La)

Transportation:

Chartered car: Deqin (Meili Snow Mountain) → Diqing (Shangri-La) 300, because the driver’s wife lives in Shangri-La, and his home is in Meili, so he took it to see his wife, so it is cheap.

Itinerary:

I saw Rizhao Jinshan the next morning, and I was extremely lucky.

At 6:39, the first ray of sunshine shines on the clouds on time. In the beginning, I felt that there was not much hope, but then, there was a big turnaround. During the rainy season in July, you can see the golden mountains in the Meili Snow Mountain. Who can you thank? Thank you Meili Snow Mountain for favoring those who are destined (PS: It is recommended to book for 2 nights for safety). Meili Snow Mountain Kawagebo showed a clear picture of the golden mountain in sunshine for about 20 minutes, and finally turned into a fog again. Here are some pictures:

After breakfast, I met the rainbow again. We are destined to each other, thank you!

Previous video

After breakfast, charter a car back to Shangri-La for 300 yuan. Because the driver’s wife lives in Shangri-La and his home is in Meili, it is cheap to take him back to see his wife. At 9:45, we chartered a car back to Shangri-La and arrived at 13:15, three and a half hours.

Went to a nearby Tibetan restaurant for a lunch of 250, and the Tibetan owner cooked it himself.

I went to the world's largest Mani prayer wheel. Each turn is equivalent to chanting the Buddha's name 1.24 million times. It has completed 3 turns of the prayer wheel, one turn in 2012 and one turn in 2017.

Treating people with sincerity also means operating with heart. Finally, Xiaolong was forced to pay for his meal.

After dinner, we came to Sifang Street at around eight o'clock to dance square dance together. Tibetans, Naxi people, merchants from all over the country who come here to do business, and Chinese and foreign tourists all dance together.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAY6: Diqing (Shangri-La) → Lijiang

Dine at the hotel at 9 a.m.

I really like the handmade red copper pot. The boss pays more attention to details, including the Dianhong and green tea provided to customers, which are of high quality. Then there are exquisite handmade soaps for washing up.

Departing from Shangri-La at 13:45 pm (chartered car is 400), why is it so cheap? It happened that my cousin was going to Lijiang to pick up guests early the next morning, and he took an empty car there, so it was cheaper. Normally it would cost at least 700~800, which is too simple for Tibetans.

 :

Goodbye Shangri-La, thank you Xiaolong and the simple Tibetans. On the way, we stopped at the viewing platform of Haba Snow Mountain.

The boundary between Shangri-La and Lijiang - Jinsha River

Briefly introduce the ancient city of Lijiang and mark the key points on the blackboard

The entire ancient city of Dayan gives people the impression that the streets are winding and criss-crossing, and the famous buildings were mostly built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, absorbing the architectural style of the Han people. There are three lanes, one screen wall, and four courtyards in four.

3.8 square kilometers was built in the late Southern Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 800 years. Langzhong in Sichuan, Pingyao in Shanxi, and Shexian in Anhui are known as the four most well-preserved ancient cities in China. Since the Ming Dynasty, the ancient city of Lijiang has been called Dayanxiang. It got its name because it is located in the center of Lijiang Dam, surrounded by green mountains and surrounded by green fields. It looks like a large jasper inkstone.

The local Naxi people are descendants of the ancient Qiang people, an ancient minority. Dongba religion is a unique religion of the Naxi people. Dongba culture is named after being preserved in Dongba religion, and mainly includes: Dongba characters, Dongba scriptures, Dongba paintings, Dongba music, Dongba dances, Dongba ritual instruments and various ancestor worship rituals. The earliest characters of the Naxi people are called se, stable (a kind of trace), Lu (stone), and sui. They are traces carved on wood or stone that continue to this day. There are about 2,200 Dongba characters and are considered to be the only hieroglyphs still alive in the world.

I would also like to talk about Lijiang salmon (I have eaten it several times before, so I didn’t try it this time). The biggest feature: it is the source of spring water for breeding. The average altitude of Lijiang City is more than 2,400 meters. Through the melted glaciers of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the water temperature is lower than 10 degrees in the hottest time of summer. Salmon is a cold-water fish. It will get sick when the water temperature is higher than 19 degrees, and it will definitely die at 23 degrees. Salmon grows very slowly in water that is below 10 degrees all year round. The biggest feature is that it has no fat. Lijiang salmon is a rainbow trout adapted to the water quality of Lijiang.

Shangri-La departed at 13:45 in the afternoon and did not arrive at the North Gate Slope of Lijiang Ancient Town until 18:52. We could have arrived early, and the normal journey only took more than 4 hours. However, we encountered a rear-end collision with another car on the main road, a road construction incident, and an endless traffic jam after entering the city. In the evening, we went to Yuntianqiao to eat Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles as usual. We come here every time we go to Lijiang.

DAY7:Lijiang

After lunch, we passed Huangshan Kindergarten, a kindergarten in Lijiang Old Town (the one very close to the Old Town Primary School), and I will show you the inside view.

Yican WellIt is named after it is located in Ayican Village. It is said that in the winter of 1253, the first year of Lizong Baoyou's reign in the Southern Song Dynasty, the Mongolian army "Yuan Kuo Ge Nang" led by Kublai Khan stationed in this village and drank from this well when he was marching south from Dali and crossing Lijiang.

Went to the only star daddy in Dayan Ancient Town in Lijiang (there is a new star daddy near the big waterwheel, so stay tuned)

Went to Banshan for dinner in the evening - grilled fish, very fragrant paper-wrapped fish.

I chatted with the inn housekeeper until 2am in the evening. I walked from Lijiang to Tibet on foot for 7 months, then visited Mount Kailash and took a ride on the way back. I walked around Meili Snow Mountain 3 times and stopped for three months. He is the photographer of "The Third Pole", 40% of it was done by the housekeeper.

For dinner, I had a Chinese restaurant from A Bite of the Tongue

DAY9:Lijiang→Shanghai

Before leaving, I went to cross the bridge rice noodles again every time I come here.

There are all kinds of ancient candied fruits that are purely handmade: broad beans, carrots, pineapples, sweet potatoes, tangerine peels, kumquats, sour papayas, red fruits, plums, cherry tomatoes, crab apples, etc. We select the fresh ones according to each season.

We went directly to Lijiang Airport and bought a small national treasure for my daughter.

This sunset light ended the Shangri-La-Meili Snow Mountain execution. I'LLBEBACK.

9. Review

1. February 2012 - Kunming Zoo + Lijiang + Shangri-La Pudacuo + Alpaca Photos

This is the most photogenic Gaga in Kunming Zoo. I don’t know what is going on now after 5 years. At that time, it was eating all the time. It was the fattest one in the zoo. It was full of joy. Everyone else was well-behaved, but it was busy all the time.

There are probably about 200 peacocks in the peacock garden. Anyway, you are surrounded as soon as you enter. There are some that sweep across you, some that fly up the branches, and some that are courting.

This is the aquatic plant in Shuhe Ancient Town, please tease it.

This was the first time I went to Lijiang to take a photo of an alpaca in February 2012. The owner said that it was very famous, and I never saw it again after several visits.

2. November 2014 - Photos of Shuhe + Lijiang + Lugu Lake

It’s still the water plants in Shuhe, why do I like to take pictures of you every time I come here.

束河一角

The following are photos taken when I went to Lugu Lake in November 2014. I selected a few to share. I stayed in the innermost house on the Lige Peninsula in Lugu Lake, which has the best perspective. I chose the best room in this inn.

First sight of Lugu Lake

On the Lige Peninsula on Lugu Lake, we stayed at the Bian'an Inn. The one with the best view from the top on the second floor has the best view of the sunrise.

The interior layout of the top room on the second floor of the inn is above the lake, not on the side of the lake. This is the highlight of this inn.

After eating an authentic local home-cooked meal at a Mosuo family, with the owner's permission, we took this precious photo of the interior of the grandmother's house. Below is the firepit in a standard Naxi room.

The one in the lower right corner is a famous local dish, pork fat. We really can't eat it, it's all fat.

Going to Lugu Lake is really the right choice to go to this inn.

Bian Mu is called "Old Hungry" because he is always hungry and likes to eat.

This is a boat that only docks at the Rieger Peninsula. Generally, guests who arrive in Rieger and are not happy to carry their luggage can take the boat directly to the Rieger Peninsula. I have nothing to say about this water. Just looking at the photo makes me want to jump in and take a swim.

It feels so good to swim on the lake in the morning light and soak in the boat.

3. June 2016 - Lavender Base + Blue Moon Valley Photos

We are at this familiar place again.

June is the flowering period of lavender, and you can see a vast expanse of purple.

I took this photo while lying on a big rocking chair at the inn where we stayed for 8 days. I love this super big rocking chair the most. Many guests rocked themselves to sleep on it.

10. Video

Shangri-La's beautiful Napa Sea, clouds, horses, mother pig's litter of piglets.

Eleven. Impressions

The unforgettable trip of 9 days and 8 nights has come to an end. I returned to Shanghai and started my full work schedule again. Shangri-La/Meili Snow Mountain/Lijiang. This area of three parallel rivers contains multiple ethnic groups, languages, religious beliefs, customs and habits, and an ecological environment in which man and nature are harmonious. Separated by a river, Shangri-La and Lijiang are separated by a gentle stroke; one side is Tibetan-style architecture, and the other side is architecture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, giving birth to different cultures on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and worshiping the down-to-earth power of nature. The thick earth, the frivolous and vigorous and thick clouds, the intersection of light and shadow, the rising clouds, the shining sunshine, constantly alternating, Kawagbo is there... I'LLBEBACK.
